To the anon asking about starting art (and all others who need help)

1. Definitely find a unique art tag or have a separate blog. It makes it a lot easier to peel through your art! I personally think it’s super annoying to follow an artist who makes it difficult to actually see their original posts without a lot of digging. And maybe this is a sideblog where you reblog main-blog art posts! Whatever you’d like, just make it obvious where to find it all.

2. The first 10 tags are the ones that show up best in search, so be picky! If you do fanart, definitely tag the characters first, and keep general stuff like ‘fanart’ or ‘digital art’ for later. Keep ramblings to the end! You only get 30 tags, so choose wisely.

3. Post often! And it doesn’t even have to be new every time. Whether it’s reblogging others’ art, your own art, answering asks, etc., this will help you not get lost on the dash. You don’t have to do 10 posts a day. Or even 1 post a day. There’s no algorithm, but it’s tough if you do one post a month (like I do), bc most of your followers won’t see it without lots of self-reblogging.

4. Have a signature that shows your art handle. That way, if it’s reposted, or your blog gets lost somewhere along the way, the source can be traced more easily. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve wanted to find an artist whose signature is just a scribble or their name.

5. Don’t look too closely at follower count, we don’t want you spiraling!! Especially on tumblr, some artists with huge followings get few notes, and some artists with tiny followings get tons of notes. Don’t worry about it! Everything happens with time.

6. And while we’re at it, try not to get bogged down by notes either. Some posts flop, some soar. Sometimes the 10 minute sketch gets more attention than the 8 hour painting. It happens! The cool thing about tumblr is that as long as a post is circulating, it can still gain attention. Don’t forget to self-reblog!

7. Have a place (maybe your art blog, maybe a side blog) to reblog other people’s art. The only way that stuff gets circulated here is through reblogs, so if you want to give back and show your appreciation, spread the love! Likes do nothing here. And if you want to make friends and mutuals, write fun tags if you feel like it! I’ve met a ton of great artists that way. When people start keysmashing or writing essays in the tags, it’s the best feeling.

8. Get involved! Often you’ll see things like big exchanges going around, those are lots of fun. When you make mutuals, do collabs and art trades! Dtiys, drawing fanart for your favorite bloggers, leaving asks and comments and tags, all that stuff! It’s a great way to make friends and learn a lot along the way.

And have fun!!! Tumblr is a wonderful place to build and be part of a community. Love, a 5-year tumblr artist <3

I love reading your headcannons about them! 💖💖

I had so much fun imagining and writing this ask. It amused me greatly and I really appreciate the request, anon dear! I hope you’ll enjoy the headcanons!

Sanzo

So, I’ve always headcanoned Sanzo to have a lot of ‘old man’ traits and high among them is the fact that he’s really not all that technologically gifted. At all, really. He just doesn’t understand how to use technology and he doesn’t spend a lot of time on the internet. He really only has a tumblr because the others, especially Goku, would have bothered him into getting one. Even then, he doesn’t really use it often and he often forgets he even has one. It can be months between him logging in.

He doesn’t really understand how to use themes and even has trouble figuring out how to put an avatar up and he’s definitely not going to think to ask the others for help, half because he doesn’t really care and half because he has his pride so his tumblr is so very basic. His tumblr handle is leavemealonealready, but his blog doesn’t have a title or anything notable about it.

He follows Goku, Hakkai, and Gojyo because they make him but other than that, he doesn’t follow too many people, mostly just tumblrs dedicated to cute animals (he definitely follows dogposts and only-cat-memes). He doesn’t do the whole follow-back thing. He’s also horrible for never reblogging and only liking things.

Hakkai

Tumblr is very much a Hakkai thing and he’s probably actually the one to not only have gotten the others into it, but to use it the most. If the Saiyuki universe had tumblr, I could definitely see Hakkai scrolling through his dash whenever he got bored, though I don’t think he creates original posts often.

He does put a lot of thought into his tumblr handle, blog title, theme, avatar, and the general overall aesthetic of his tumblr. His handle would be almost hipster!like, something like ‘thelostlenore’ or ‘thepathlesstravelled’ and his avatar changes from something scenic and pretty to pictures of Jeep. He prefers his tumblr themes clean and minimal, good for both pictures and text, something like Hazy by vitaminholland. He purposefully chooses not to title his blog.

I feel like he follows a lot of people. Not only does he like a lot of blogs, follow a lot of tags, and just have a general interest in various areas, but he does do the kind thing of following people who follow him. I do think he has a few fandoms that he would be into and that he would follow tumblrs related to those fandoms, along with some generally aesthetic fandoms (especially academia!aesthetic blogs). He’s also really interested in intellectual things and would follow tumblrs of that nature, such as philosophybits, scienceisdope, etc. He also would follow some positivity focused tumblrs, just because everyone needs a pick-me-up sometimes.

Goku

Goku is the one I can see using tumblr the most after Hakkai. Hakkai has to show him how to work it but he catches on pretty quickly. His handle is songokueats and he mostly posts a lot of pictures of his food or funny pictures he snaps of the others getting into embarrassing moments. He titles his tumblr very simply, just calling it ‘Goku’s tumblr’ and his avatar is either a picture of food or an embarrassing photo of Sanzo or Gojyo until they make him take it down. He’s not really all that picky about his tumblr theme, with his only requisite being that it’s colourful and fun so I can see him using something like colorful space or Bitter Fruit.

Other than Sanzo, Goku follows the least amount of people. He follows the others, of course, but other than that, he mainly just follows a lot of food blogs and just kind of browses tags whenever he gains interest in something. He’d be the one to get really into the tumblr memes though and would overuse them.

He really likes to talk to people and online is no different. I could see him using the dm feature the most out of the four of them.

Gojyo

I think overall, if the world of Saiyuki had social media, Gojyo would prefer dating apps, Instagram, and TikTok and, while he’d have a tumblr, it would be hit or miss if he thinks to check it. It’s not his first choice for apps.

I think he was probably really into it at first and he did put thought into it. He uses a very image-centric theme, something dark and minimalistic but stylish, and the only posts he has up are images, usually selfies and usually of the thirst trap variety. His tumblr handle is l@vvrboi and his blog title is Too Hot to Handle, with his avatar being a selfie, of course.

He does do follow for follow and he does follow a fair amount of blogs, anything smutty or erotic, some cute animal blogs, along with a few advice blogs because he’s got a guilty pleasure for those kinds of things. He’s really susceptible, just saying, to clicking on pornbot links.

Sure thing, I don't mind explaining, and you're not bothering me at all! I crop out the names of all blogs that ask to be anonymous, so you have no worries.

I'll link the post here so it can be read as a whole; below, I'll cut the post up to explain it in sections. The post will be in bold and indented, explanation will not.

Imagine you work in one of the hospitals in Naha. It’s past midnight, visiting hours are over, you’re probably expecting car accidents or something of the like to be the only problems you might face.

The first sentence sets the scene, putting you in the position of a nurse working the graveyard shift at a hospital; you can actually imagine yourself in this scenario if you so choose. The next sentence describes a pretty calm, mundane situation that your imaginary self finds themself in.

But then, all of a sudden, a dude without a shirt on comes in running with a dude in ninja cosplay bleeding from his head in his arms followed by a guy in KISS cosplay.

Imagine next, your calm night is interrupted by an emergency. These lines focus on Joe's, Cherry's, and Shadow's costumes, as a head injury coming into a hospital isn't abnormal. It wants you to imagine just how shocking- or silly- it would look for three grown men in costume to come running in. You- as a nurse working in a hospital, not as a show viewer- do not know what or how this happened.

You then realize that the bleeding man is the Sakurayakishi Kaoru, a well known calligrapher who is always showing up on TV and is known for his AI Calligraphy.

The next sentence focuses specifically on Kaoru. The "the" in this sentence is italicized to remind us of Kaoru's importance/status in everyday life.

So, what do we know about Kaoru? How important of a person is he? From his trivia, we know:

"Cherry would receive good omotenashi from his clients, and he is very picky so it's hard to satisfy him."

There is no doubt that Kaoru has a great rapport among his clients- if he didn't no one would go to him for services. But, the fact that the trivia states that the people who are paying him for a service want to be well-received by him shows just how important of a person he is. Also, the sub refers to him as "sensei".

Now, here’s a question. How the fuck did nobody call the police?

This is the only line of the post that doesn't ask you to use your imagination but asks you to think over everything you just imagined.

You're a nurse working the night shift when a head injury comes in dressed in wild costumes. You soon realize that the patient is a public figure. The question is asking whether or not why you, or one of your coworkers, or any random person didn't call law enforcement in this very odd scenario.

The reason this question is asked is because of three reasons. The first is in the third section, Kaoru's status as a public figure. It is well known that celebrities and the like use aliases when they are going to hospitals, hotels, etc. so that media and fans don't storm the places their residing in. However, Kaoru is unconscious and can't have given that sort of directive, and unless Kojiro is on his medical file as an emergency contact (he definitely could be, but we don't know for certain.) he doesn't have that sort of power. Also, anyone who would have seen Kaoru be brought in would instantly recognize him, and we've been shown not only that large swaths of people love him but people having extreme reactions to him.

The second reason is because Kaoru's injuries would not look like an accident. His face alone would bear the imprint from Ainosuke's board, so it would look like he was struck with something. He would have two different head wounds; we saw the one on his right temple, but he would have hit the back of his head when he hit the ground. His arms and back would be road-rashed to hell and back, and just general injuries from hitting the ground after being thrown back after going at high speeds. At best, he'd look like he was hit by a truck, but then you'd have questions of a hit and run or whether it was a premeditated attack.

[Side Note: It also doesn't help that in his S attire, Kojiro has a visible tattoo, which may cause some people to look at him negatively and possibly accuse him of something. He and Hiromi are also indigenous men and would very possibly have to deal with racist and prejudiced people.]

The last reason is that the police are all over the show. There's not only Kiriko, but her boss, security guards, the people that arrest Tanaka, even some of the capmen are hinted at being police officers. In a show where they are so prominent, it's kinda hard to think they wouldn't show up here as well, especially seeing as Kaoru is part of the upper class, and this is also the part of the show where it was thought that Kiriko was closing in on Ainosuke.

TLDR: This post is about a nurse working a night shift at a hospital, when suddenly a public figure with a head injury comes in, and has to decide on a course of action.

So, full disclosure before we start, I have both of these people blocked because they both fantasize about a 26yr old man sexually assaulting a 17yr old boy. I was groomed by a pedophile I met in a fandom and thus have zero tolerance for people who get off on the harm they cause.

Now, when I first read this comment months back, I was just genuinely confused, mostly because it was unnecessarily hostile, but I'll give a proper response here.

This comment doesn't make any sense because there would be no need for Kojiro to do that. When a head injury comes into a hospital, the nurse's first reaction wouldn't be "Oh god, there's an illegal skateboarding ring, I need to call the police so these people can be arrested"; their reaction would be "Let's get them to imaging so we can see what's wrong". Kojiro wouldn't bribe anybody- mostly because he wouldn't have the money to bribe a bunch of hospital staff- but an attempt to bribe anybody would be an admission that they'd done something illegal in the first place. He could just lie and say Kaoru was hit by a car or attacked or something. The question wasn't asking why someone didn't call the police on Kaoru, Kojiro, and Hiromi, it was asking why no did it for them so they could report that their friend was hurt, which is a normal thing people do in the world we currently live in; they wouldn't have to mention S in any capacity. It would be more suspicious for Kojiro to try and bribe people- also the nurses themselves could just lie about their silence, take the money, and then report them- when they could just let the police come make up an easy explanation and be done with it.

Now let's look at their tags.

Now, you've read my post - sans explanation. Does anything that they're accusing me of line up with what I wrote? Nowhere in my post does it state that cops are a positive force (And tbh the idea that someone saying "How didn't anyone call the cops? means that a person is pro-cop when there are tons of people in this world who don't face or benefit from the systematic violence cops are a part of and thus would have no problem or see no problem calling them shows that you don't really have a good understanding of how state-funded violence and oppression actually works).

Second, nowhere in my post do I state that cops should show up at S. In fact, S is not mentioned in my post once because it was never about S, it was about a nurse in a hospital tending to a patient.

Also, I shouldn't have to tell you how vile it is to talk down to me- a black trans person- about cop violence.

My reply at the end was mostly my confusion at the amount of hostility towards what a pretty innocuous post. I was also a bit upset because, like I stated before, they are accusing a black person of not understanding police violence. You would think that if someone knows oh so much about police brutality they might also have the wherewithal to make sure the person they're talking down to isn't one of the people most likely to be killed by them.

I turned off reblogs on that post back then because this is tumblr, and I've been in fandom long enough to realize bullshit starts over bullshit, and I refused to be harassed over something I didn't say.

I hope this was enough of an explanation for you (if not I'll try again!). If you ever want me to explain another one of my posts, just ask and I'll do so. It's never a bother.

I think, and this is just my opinion that all this fear some anons have about Tom being "boycotted" in Hollywood, not having the same oportunities as other actors/ actresses in his age group and how his career is going nowhere stems from a number of reasons ( ridiculous reason but enough for anons to panic).

Tom is basically the phase of Marvel at this point and there is this general consensus ( which i don't get) that marvel movies are not real movies and marvel actors should not be taken seriously, thus no serious " critically acclaimed roles" for them. They also worry he will type casted.

This entire year while Tom spent 7/8 months shooting a show with a subject matter that most people especially his own fans are not comfortable with thus they think it's gonna fail, others ( that is his peers people just love comparing him to) were dropping "critically acclaimed" movies, casting news and shooting multiple movies and winning awards.

Its been a while since there has been any verifiable casting new about Tom and he doesn't have any "critically acclaimed" directors going about red carpets mentioning his name at moment.

I feel like as much as Toms fans claim to love him they generally have little faith in him and his abilities and little to no patience at all. Just one year and everyone is worried it's the end for him.

I mean the guy just a few months ago had two of the most successful movies this year relised back to back. NWH Might not have been an Oscars darling but it was praised by critics and loved by all.

What ever becomes of TCR, what we as fans should be sure of is that Tom's performance is going to be stellar cause he is just that good.

Everyone who has ever worked with Tom has nothing but praises for him; crew members, cast mates, producers, directors all praise him for his, talent, charisma, work ethics and how they see him going places. Have some faith.

And just a month or 2 ago an anon here on this very blog who works in Hollywood said people should stop worrying about Tom, how his name is being dropped in every meeting and how many directors want to work with him. Be patient.

And sure others are getting critical acclaims, awards, nominations and casting news this year but you know what? There's always next year, 2 years from now, 5 - 10 years from now who knows, anything can happen.

If people will stop comparing Tom to others and let him follow his own part they will enjoy him better. Trust me he is an excellent actor, ambitious, a sweet and nice guy, he his a bright career ahead him and those awards you all are so pressed about might come sooner than later and if they dont so what?

First of all, idk why ppl act like Marvel movies aren't "real movies"? Why? Because Martin Scorsese said so? 🥴

Look, art is SUBJECTIVE, so not everybody is gonna like everything, and that's okay! 🤷🏾‍♀️ That's why it's called ART.

Second, there have been PLENTY of great actors (even Oscar-winning actors) in Marvel films. Ben Kingsley, Michael Douglas, Angelina Jolie, Michele Pfeifer, Don Cheadle, etc. That's just to name a FEW.

There are plenty of actors who would KILL to be cast in a Marvel film!

Tom has tons of accolades and people wanting to work with him I'm sure. But not everything that gets presented in front of you is smthg that you want to do.

Being in Marvel has AFFORDED Tom the freedom to be picky and choosy. Same with Zendaya. Both of them now choose their roles VERY carefully.

When you have to take what you can get, you just do any old role. You can kindof tell the actors who've had to take any old role just to pay the bills lol. And that's fine! 😂 We all have to eat. So I don't blame them at all.

But when you get in the "big leagues" like Tom and Zendaya are now, you can afford to take your time, decline roles that don't speak to you, etc.

Tom is gonna be JUST fine. Idk why some fans worry about his career so much? 🥴

I know of other fans in other fandoms who are fans of TV actors who haven't even really done much, but there isn't this pressure from the fandom for the actor to break into movies, or to win all these awards, or do certain roles.

They're just happy to see their fave on their favorite TV show, or happy to hear whatever role he's doing next.

Idk why there's sooo much pressure put on TOM to be a certain way or to have a certain career in the industry. I don't get it. 🥴

Just ENJOY him as is, and take him for face value😁

Enjoy the ride/journey. Thinking too much just spoils the fun in being a fan of someone imo 🤷🏾‍♀️

Marine "Rainforest" - Coral Reefs

Introduction

I am Crystal, on a journey to explore mysterious and magical tropical ecology. The theme of my blog is about coral reefs. I choose this because people always say they are important; they are dying now; we must save them. This raises my curiosity to know more about coral reefs. In the exploration of coral reefs, I will share and divide my findings into five entries as follows:

Now, you roughly know what I am going to say about coral reefs. So, let us move on to the first entry.

Coral reefs - Animals or plants?

When you dive into the ocean, you are surprised by the beautiful and gorgeous scene at the seabed - the colourful coral reefs. When first looking at corals, you will immediately think they are beautiful plants. Yes, they look very similar to plants but are actually animals. Corals are coelenterates (Goreau, Goreau & Goreau 1979). The phylum's name comes from the Greek words koilos (hollow) and enteron (gut), so corals are hollow guts because their main and long body cavity is the digestive tract (Goreau, Goreau & Goreau 1979).

From corals to coral reefs

Corals are simple and multicellular animals. But how do they grow into the extensive coral reefs we usually find in the ocean? The living, carbonate coral reef system is established from the symbiotic relationship between the reef-building corals and plant-like dinoflagellates (Hoegh-Guldberg 2011). Dinoflagellates are unicellular organism that lives inside the gastrodermal cells of reef-building corals in the order Sclerantinia in the Class Anthozoa and the Phylum Cnidaria (Hoegh-Guldberg 2011). Dinoflagellates are called plant-like because they can perform the unique skill of plants - photosynthesis. In the corals’ gastrodermal cells, dinoflagellates provide a lot of energy from photosynthesis to the coral host (Hoegh-Guldberg 2011). In return, the corals feed dinoflagellates with the metabolized inorganic nutrients, which their quantity is very low in the clear tropical and subtropical marine water (Muscatine et al. 2005).

Fastidious coral reefs

Coral reefs are very picky to the growing environments. They only like ocean water that is sunlit, clear and warm (Goreau, Goreau & Goreau 1979). In addition, they only grow in shallow marine sites at a depth below 100 m and in regions within 30˚ north or south of the equator (Hoegh-Guldberg 2011) because their photosynthetic symbiont requires abundant sunlight. They need clear ocean water because the turbidity can inhibit light penetration (Hoegh-Guldberg 2011). The ocean temperature should be stable and warm (Kleypas et al. 1999). For instance, the ocean temperature cannot fall below 18˚C in places with winter (Kleypas et al. 1999). The growing sites should also contain splendid carbonate ions, which are critical to the calcification of corals (Hoegh-Guldberg 2011). Collectively, coral reefs mainly thrive in shallow equatorial coastal regions because these areas are typically sunlit, warm and supersaturated with carbonate ions.

on shipping and dynamics. so... i practice ship exclusivity, when it comes to certain dynamics. i do not enjoy recycling, or reusing ideas with other people. and in order to ship with my muse romantically-- i do ask this be mutual. if you do not enjoy that, then it's fine. no hard feelings, i can respect that. when i am comfortable enough to plot these things out, i really try to put out 100% effort. and it doesn't feel very good to see our ideas and dynamic done the same with someone else.

I want to state as first that I'm not a very strong opinionated person normally. I tend to try to see things from both sides, or linger in the grey area. That said, let me share you my unpopular opinions with you.

UNPOPULAR OPINION ONE: ASKS.

Asks stress me out. Yes, that's right. I have never mentioned it before, but the moment I get many asks in, I quickly get overwhelmed. It depends on whether they are in character or out of character asks. Out of character asks are easier for me to answer, because it is me. However, when it comes to in character asks, I tend to have my muse suddenly curb stomp the breaks. It really depends on the topic, the amount and also in a way, the muse. I have even come to a point where I considered to be a 'threads only' blog, but therefore, that can become boring real quick. Do I dislike asks? Partly yes, partly no. Yes, because I feel the pressure. No, because I feel seen and loved by all of you. I have deleted asks in the pasts, mostly because I was really overwhelmed by the amount, and for example Silco blankly stared at me and went 'No'. However, me deleting asks is entirely unbiased. I have deleted asks from all my mutuals at least once so far (I'm sorry). I have stated it in my rules that if I get too much, I will be selective and delete some, but for the longest time I have tried to answer all asks. I want to reiterate that this has nothing to do with any you, and all to do with me. I'm someone who just gets quickly overwhelmed for some reason.

UNPOPULAR OPINION ONE: MUTUALS ONLY.

I have seen this opinion float by, and since I'm on the other side of the spectrum, I wanted to give my two cents on it. I'm a selective blog. To a certain extent, it means I'm a mutuals only (when it comes to threads). The reason as to why, is partly the pressure. I have to be honest here, I don't see myself or my muse interact with some people, or their muse, which is fine. People who follow me and I don't follow back, are always welcome to send in asks (I don't delete those, because those are the moments where I do want to give them attention), and talk to me. If I don't follow you now, that doesn't mean I won't follow you later. Things can change, and sometimes I need to get to know the person first before I follow. It stems from back in the Shingeki no Kyojin fandom. I had a blog with over 1,3K followers, and where majority of the people wanted to roleplay with me. Which, where I found out, were 90% shipping/smut reasoning. I needed to give myself space, and ought myself to become mutuals only, so people were less likely to haunt me. I have had it where I had given a finger, and the person took half of my torso. So, to keep that from happening, I choose to be picky. Does it mean that I judge you, your portrayal or your muse? Absolutely not. I personally don't mind people seeing me as 'elitist', because I know that is a reflection on how they see me, rather than who I am.
