LET’S NOT EVEN DISCUSS HOW ANAKIN PROBABLY USED TO TAKE OBI-WAN’S HAND AS A PADAWAN!! LET’S NOT EVEN DISCUSS HOW OBI-WAN USED TO TAKE PADMÉ’S HANDS IN HIS WHEN HE GREETED HER!!!! LET’S NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT HOW STARTLED HE LOOKS OR HOW SOFT HE GETS WHEN HE REALIZES WHAT SHE’S DOING AND TURNS HIS HAND OVER SO SHE CAN HOLD IT EASIER AND HE CAN STROKE HER HAND WITH HIS THUMB!!!! and GOD FORBID we even contemplate what Leia is thinking during this because is she trying to just say thank you in the simplest way she knows how because she knows words can’t even really begin to cover everything he’s been doing for her?? Is she trying to reassure him that he did good because since she’s known him the man OOZES how unsure of himself he is???? WHEN OBI-WAN SACRIFICES HIMSELF FOR HER AND LUKE IN A NEW HOPE DOES SHE THINK BACK TO THIS MOMENT AND WISH SHE HAD GOTTEN TO SPEND MORE TIME WITH THE OLD MAN WITH KIND BUT SAD BLUE EYES AND A SCRUFFY BEARD THAT SHE ALWAYS THOUGHT SEEMED A LITTLE TOO FAMILIAR AND WOULD SEE IN FLASHES WITH HER MOTHER?? I CAN’T THINK ABOUT ANY OF IT THIS ONE SCENE HAS SENT ME SPIRALING OUT OF CONTROL

I Need To Stop Reading Into Things…😂
Yet again for @kiricookie .
[Check out this post first.]
So… we’re here again. Lord forgive me, I’m back on my bulls***.
Okay, jokes aside, I really should stop doing these things, but I am a stubborn individual. Plus, I wanna see how our notes compare, and try to have more civil discussions on the internet than I see on average. I’d reblog, but again, your post is already long as is (not incredibly long, but still), and I’d rather not occupy dashboard space more than I need to.
Alright, I think I’ve said my piece. Let’s talk about your post…
Oof. Starting right in the heart of the issue, really.
I am aware that Izuku is… incredibly likeable. I am aware that some of his issues, while perceived by some as noble, are heavily problematic and probably need to get sorted out before the boy gets a close audience with death. I am also aware that some of his habits are less than courteous in some circumstances, though like you said, Izuku has the benefit of having no malicious intent when it comes to these actions, even if they can come off as annoying.
Now, regarding Katsuki’s snail pace development… I get what you’re trying to say, but that doesn’t make it come off as any less frustrating...
As much as I want to believe that Katsuki’s upbringing in society is what’s stunted his growth so badly, I wish the narrative was more willing to show it. All we’ve gotten of Katsuki’s past are flashbacks from Izuku, remarks during the visit to the Bakugo household, and the “raised with violence” line from the Remedial Course arc. Now this understandably paints a pretty terrible picture, but uh… what has Katsuki done to try to fix it? How has Katsuki tried to demonstrate that his upbringing wasn’t justified? Why is he imitating the behaviors he supposedly despises, that supposedly keep him held back, instead of trying to find a workaround? I’ve only seen a few growth/redemption arcs of antagonistic characters, but even if the arcs took long, there was always an ultimate reason for doing so. And Katsuki doesn’t have that. At least, not yet.
It’s been implicitly established that Katsuki’s growth will be the mother of all slowburns. I’ve mentioned it in this old post of mine, but this is doing Katsuki no favors, at least for me. Now don’t get me wrong, I love myself a flawed character, but there’s only so much I can stomach before a flawed character becomes less “flawed” and more “asshole.” I personally believe that his true growth doesn’t get started until “Deku vs. Kacchan 2” (Episode 61), but if we really wanna consider that “Bakugo’s Start Line” (Episode 8) is his… well, start line, then that only makes it worse. Because again, his character arc is, as we’ve established, slow. But the fact that it’s slow enough for several other character arcs to transpire (Shoto, Tenya), as well as slow enough to allow “background characters” some significant development and return to relevancy (Eijiro, Hitoshi), I start wanting to stop holding my breath for his arc’s supposedly inevitable conclusion. Now I know you personally consider the suspense a positive, but it’s the opposite for me. I’d chalk it up to impatience, but again, MULTIPLE character arcs have transpired, and a few have been far more believably gradual compared to Katsuki’s.
While it is impressive that Katsuki was willing to pour out his feelings to Izuku, I’d like to argue that it wasn’t as… well, sentimental. Remember that society and Izuku’s peers before UA regarded him as the lowest of the low. The weakest, the most worthless. “The pebble in the path.” Considering that Katsuki lost the Training Exercise AND technically got outsmarted by Izuku, who was considered this until VERY RECENTLY, I’d imagine that’d be one hell of a blow to his ego. It is still significant that he’s willing to talk to Izuku about this, but it’s not exactly because he’s humbling himself. It’s because he’s begrudgingly admitting that he’s not the best, and it’s been well established that he HATES not being the absolute best. And I don’t know about you, but suddenly getting your high expectations crushed after years of nothing but “positive reinforcement” should not be made as big of a deal as it is here. I’m not saying to get over it, because you’ll never get over it, you have to live with it and learn from it, but don’t make it seem like it’s the end of the world and a half like Katsuki did in that scene. Plus, didn’t he essentially reaffirm that he was going to do what he planned to do from the start of his tenure at UA? I mean, good on him for his dedication, but you’d think the guy would want to take a step back and actually try to learn from others if they were so impressive.
Now, the DC Superhero franchise falls in and out from my radar at times, but I don’t think Katsuki and Batman are a good comparison for the point you're trying to make. Yes they both use violence, and yes they’re both intimidating, but for entirely different reasons. Batman uses fear tactics because he finds them efficient; I don’t know what they’re doing with his character nowadays, but from what I can gather in his earlier incarnations, Batman’s not out for blood. Vengeace, sure, but he doesn’t waste time getting there beating the snot out of his enemies. He takes care of them, sends them off, and keeps on trucking. Before they tried making him even more edgy, he didn’t kill and he kept away from firearms because he was well aware of any issues he had. He may not be a goodie two-shoes like most heroes, but he does show definitive empathy in some of his earlier incarnations. Remember, Batman was the kid who lost his parents to injustice. That was his entire reason for taking up the cowl, for becoming more than Bruce Wayne. In the Justice League Unlimited Episode “Epilogue,” he has the option to kill Ace, a teen villain with dangerously growing psychic powers. He doesn’t do that. He takes the seat next to Ace as she begins to die. He offers his support as Ace has to confront the terrifying realization that she is dying. He’s helping another scared kid, because he knows what it’s like.
That’s heroism. That’s Batman.
Katsuki’s motivations and actions aren’t as sympathetic. Him lashing out isn’t for anything strategical; early on in the series and even after his “Start Line,” up until the Endeavor Agency Arc, I believe, Katsuki’s sole motivations are victory and bloodlust. Even if it seems like he’s growing more chivalrous with his resolve, he backslides so many times back into the angry loudmouth trope its hard to want to keep hope, because if he can backslide multiple times before, what’s to stop him from backsliding again? It ruins the suspense for some people. And people are intimidated by Katsuki, but that’s because he’s borderline unhinged. I’d be scared s***less too if a pyrokinetic powerhouse was gunning on me with his eyes glowing like the fires of Hell as he radiated killing intent (an exaggeration, but still). I have yet to see Katsuki use this intimidation “tactic” of his beyond the fact that he appears to be enjoying it, either.
Alright, enough of that, let’s analyze that penultimate question: why hate Katsuki? If you asked me early on, I would say that yes, I don’t like him because he hurts Izuku. But as I’ve continued looking throughout the series, I now say that I don’t like him because, contrary to what he says, virtually everything is handed to him. Most of the time, its people mistaking his battle thirst as chivalrous determination, whether it be against a villain or just a standard opponent. He never tries to make himself any more “likeable,” and while Class 1-A is quick to call him out for this in the USJ Arc, by the Sports Festival they’re all flocking to him, and I have yet to understand any proper reasoning for this. It’s less like Katsuki proving there’s more to him than meets the eye and earning the respect of his peers, and more so that people latch on to the abstract concept of Katsuki’s coolness and strength, and he just begrudgingly tolerates them from there.
I mean, Eijiro was wholeheartedly against Katsuki’s actions during the Battle Trial, yet by the USJ the difference is night and day, and it doesn’t help that he’s interpreting Katsuki’s desire to beat up villains as “faith in his classmates.” Shoto was abused by Endeavor, so the fact that he can’t at least draw some comparisons between Katsuki and his sperm donor is slightly concerning, and while I want to chalk it up to his stunted social skills, I feel like Hori and/or his editors trying to shove in a friendship to increase their overall likeability (especially Katsuki’s) is more likely. Don’t even get me started on the hoops they jump through in the Joint Training Arc. Not even gonna touch that…
Okay, finally made it to the last paragraph. So, here’s something about me you may or may not like: I don’t like people dying, good or bad. Unless their actions are comparable to that of Satan, or at least close, then they shouldn’t get the axe. Why?
Because a dead person can’t change… and a dead person can’t suffer.
Believe me, even though I’ve fallen off the bandwagon a long time ago, I want Katsuki to change for the better. And he can’t do that if he’s dead. The manga’s most recent arc has been hella frustrating because of that, and no spoilers, but the two deaths that did occur did not leave me in high spirits. Hawks, Shigaraki, you both are on thin f***ing ice I swear. So no, lucky for you, I do NOT want to see Katsuki dead just because he happens to be an ass. What I wanna see is proper repercussions that go beyond being a villain hostage and having everyone else’s potential trauma downplayed for the sake of giving Katsuki more sympathy points.
Also, I’m well aware Katsuki’s death would absolutely ruin Izuku. I am also well aware that it is one of the few concrete facts I hate with nearly every fiber of my body. Not because of what it says about Izuku…
...but because I am sick and tired of Katsuki continuing to be the arrogant s*** he is, whether it be his genuine feelings or merely a front. I am sick of the fact that for as smart and aware that someone like him is, he still insists on trying to act like a badass when there is no need or overall expectation to do so. I am sick that he continues to decide to put himself and others in jeopardy, all for the purpose of maintaining his ego. I am sick that he gets all this support, all this help, and yet his development is still worse than a snail’s pace, and the narrative continues to keep letting him off with love taps and leaving him unfairly unprepared for the kill shot.
...maybe Katsuki deserves to get better. But is this really the best way to do it? Really?
Thanks for listening. Hope you got something from all of that.

Hello, the dorm leaders reacting to Coco and Finding Nemo please ? Ps: I really love the way you write the characters.
You really wanna see those boys cry, huh? Sorry it took so long to answer, had to find time to sit and rewatch both of these masterpieces. Hope y’all enjoy!
Finding Nemo
- Azul takes a personal interest in the marine life displayed in the film. Occasionally slips some fun facts in about the different kinds of fish and oceanic biomes. Nerd. Gets all of the fish jokes.
- Not even five minutes into the film and Kalim is already tearing up because MARLIN LOST EVERYTHING EXCEPT HIS LIL BABY AND OH MY GOD WHY WOULD YOU START A MOVIE THIS WAY?!?! Everyone else is shaken, and oddly impressed by the writers’ bold choice.
- Marlin: *is being an ass, telling Nemo there are things he just can’t do*
Nemo: I hate you.
Leona: Oof, shots fired!
- *Nemo gets kidnapped*
Idia: This is why you should never leave home...
- *Dory is introduced*
Riddle: Short-term memory loss?
Azul: It’s like those times when you walk into a room but forget what your going for, except all the time.
Kalim: Do I have short term memory loss?
Vil: No.
- Azul: *narrows eyes at the first scene with the aquarium scene* Is this a representation of how living in the confines of a small enclosure without enrichment deprives animals of their basic social needs, thus leading to these mentally unstable fish?
Leona: They’re crazy fish! It’s funny! Stop over analyzing everything and watch the god damn movie!
- *Darla pic appears*
Vil: *shudders* Are they sure that little gremlin didn’t eat the fish after shaking it to death?
- *scene when Marlin watches the baby sea turtle get back to the current on his own*
Malleus: Children have got to be free to live their own lives.
Vil: Did you just quote from “The Little Mermaid”?!
- Kalim and Riddle are literally screaming when Marlin thinks Nemo is dead and have pillows clutched to their chest. Then papa clownfish leaves Dory after she literally told him that he helped her remember stuff and she didn’t want to forget anymore and they were freaking sobbing! After the second time Nemo nearly died the two of them needed to rehydrate.
- Idia likes the “just keep swimming” ditty. Hopefully Ortho will learn it and sing it to him whenever big brother starts stressing out.
Coco
- Miguel: “Sometimes I think I’m cursed.”
Malleus, Idia, and Leona: Same.
- They all have mad respect for Mama Imelda. Man left her, but did she cry and lose hope? Nope! She worked her ass off and established a family business focused on shoe making, of all things! She could stand to loosen up when it comes to music tho...
- The focus on Dia de Los Muertos in the film really gets Idia’s attention. It’s nice to see a culture that honors the dead instead of fear them, as many do, especially in such a beautifully bright way!
- *Abuela smashes guitar*
Azul: *gasps in horror* How could she?!
Malleus: Not even the original villains were that cruel!
Leona: I don’t know, Triton was pretty bad too, if I recall.
- *Miguel enters the spirit world*
Leona: *whispers* I see dead people.
- Kalim loves the close relationship Miguel has with his family, even the ones who’ve passed on. It kinda reminds him of home, you know, in that bittersweet way. He’s probably gonna be a little homesick after this.
- Leona, on the other hand, thinks Miguel needs to cut ties with the fam and strike out on his own. If they won’t support his dreams why stick around, right?
- Mama Imelda: “ That devil box tells you nothing but lies! *proceeds to beat computer with boot*”
Idia: Hey Mal, it’s you!
Malleus: *unamused*
- Vil is amazed by all of the detail the animators put into every single scene. It’s such a stark contrast to their earlier works, you can really see the refinement of their skills. Pretty boy just really appreciates the hard work that led to the completion of this beautiful film.
- You know that scene when Hector’s friend has his final death as the moon shone across the water, and Hector played him a song for the last time? Yeah, no one is forgetting that scene anytime soon.
- Riddle is the one who really gets into the music, something about the tune gets straight to his heart. Heartlabyul better be prepared to have mariachi music playing for the next month.
- Hector: *big reveal about how De la Cruz stole his songs*
Everyone: *gasps*
Azul: Does that mean that Hector could be Miguel’s great grandfather?
Everyone else: 😶
- No one expected that twist!
- Leona: That makes way more sense than his great grandfather running out on Imelda. Who could leave such a nice peace of-
Idia: *jumps out of emo corner* Respect the dead, you thirsty hoe!
Leona: 0_0
- *they finally figure out that Hector and Miguel are related*
Azul: Knew it!
Riddle: Stop spoiling the movie!
- I don’t care how hard your heart is, there isn’t a soul alive who doesn’t tear up when Hector sings “Remember Me” to his baby girl, and these kids are no exception! Kalim is clutching to a pillow while Riddle is holding onto his arm, balling their eyes out. Vil is dabbing his eyes with a handkerchief. Leona had buried himself into the couch cushions so no one could see that he has a soul. Idia is hidden in his hoody. Meanwhile, Azul and Malleus simply sit there misty eyed.
- *Mama Coco remembers her papa*
Everyone: *sobbing*
- Kalim: *with snot running down his face and tears streaming down his cheeks* Ma-*hiccup*-ma Coco got to see her papa again and Hector got to live and they’re all so happy! *ugly crying*.
Vil: Don’t get that on the carpets..ugh, here *hands a handkerchief*
Kalim: Thanks...

*Depeche Mode's Personal Jesus plays ominously as I waltz into your inbox* Isaiah gets stuck in a vent trying to grab an opossum that's been rustling around in there for weeks. the outcome if for YOU to decide.
[This was kinda long but it was so much fun?? Also I entirely didn’t mean for it to end like it did but goddamnit, Izzy needs something to vent to. Get it? Vent to? VENT? I’ll stop. Also, I listened to Marilyn Manson AND Depeche Mode’s Personal Jesus because of you, thank you so much, I love them both.]
“It’ll be fine, he said. It’s just a dumb animal, he said.” Isaiah mocked in a high pitched voice, squirming in the vent he was stuck in with his plot to murder The Herald still fresh in his mind.
There had been an opossum stuck in the vents of Titans Tower for a while now, and everyone had finally gotten sick of it. Who did they send to crawl through the vents and catch the mangly creature? Not Jericho, not the shortest person on their team who could easily manage to actually fit into the vents. Not Herald, the person who suggested the idea that was doomed from the start. No, everyone took a vote and Isaiah was sent into the vents.
Needless to say, the boy who was already boiling with anger was half tempted to power up and set the vents aflame.
Isaiah, being Isaiah, was much too large to actually fit into the vents and managed to get himself stuck just far enough to be out of reach for anyone to pull him through. Scratch that - Mal fucking Duncan managed to get Isaiah stuck, there was no way in hell Isaiah was going to take blame for his current position when he’d have been just fine with the opossum staying in the vents and dying by itself.
Meanwhile, while Hot Spot was busy squirming uselessly and conjuring up just how he was going to enact his revenge on his idiot leader, Herald was just below where the vent was and attempting to find a way to get Isaiah out of it.
‘Attempting’ - he was really holding a hand over his mouth and nearly passing out from the force it took him not to burst into annoying laughter.
From the corner of Mal’s eye, he could just see Jericho standing with his arms crossed and with his hip angled, giving Mal ‘the look’.
“Oh- C’mon! Look I’m trying to get him out alright? I’ve got the blueprints for the vent system pulled up on the computer and I’m giving him directions!” Herald defended weakly, failing to faze Jericho’s glare in the slightest.
A loud bumping sound as if Hot Spot had jerkily banged his head on the top of the vent sounded through the tower, amplified by the echo that came with being in a vent, and Herald burst into cackles.
“That’s what you get for eating all the cereal this morning you-!” Herald began loudly, cupping a hand over his mouth to amplify his volume before he froze and stared in fear at Jericho’s ever darkening glare.
His glare that was darkening both in the sense that he was angry, and in the sense that his eyes were slowly fading to black as his powers activated.
Herald suddenly turned around to face Jericho and held his hands up like a mime, halting Jericho’s near attempt to literally knock some sense into his friend with a quick ‘allow me’. Herald hit himself over the side of his head with a loud smack and gave a weak, pleading smile and jazz hands to Jericho, hoping his self inflicted punishment would stop Jericho from playing the parent and possessing Herald again. Herald let out a deep sigh of relief as Jericho was seemingly sated with this action.
“What on Earth is all of this noise?” Red Star said through his thick accent as he came through the door to their living room and look bewilderingly at the sight of Herald still posing and Jericho slowly turning his black eyes back to white.
“Izzy McGuire here managed to get himself stuck in the vents.” Mal answered, jabbing a finger toward the vents themselves.
“The vents that you got me stuck in!” Hot Spot reminded with a muffled yell through the ventilation system.
“Ugh, geez Spotty- could you at least have the courtesy to suffer in silence? It’s too early to be woken up by tweedle dum and tweedle dumber.” Kole whined in a baby voice as she tiredly jabbed a finger at both the vent and Mal.
“Um, rude?” Mal interjected before he went right back to analyzing the blueprints laid out on the computer.
‘Kole, it’s three in the afternoon, you should have already been awake anyway.’ Jericho signed to his sleepy pink haired friend, who was already yawning and trudging toward the couch where she would inevitably fall asleep again.
“Don’t care.” Kole yawned, flopping onto the couch and ignoring the scene going on behind her.
“Will one of you bozos please just go get Toni? She’s the only person with any common sense around here!” Hot Spot yelled from his uncomfortable position that he knew would leave his joints aching painfully later. The flaming boy could feel Jericho’s indignant glare toward his place in the vents.
“The only person with common sense and the power to actually reach me in the vents.” Hot Spot corrected, not actually seeing it but knowing Jericho sighed and shrugged helplessly, knowing his stunted height wasn’t going to help their situation in the least.
“Your queen has arrived!” Argent called suddenly as she came through the doors of the living room, appearing out of nowhere like a fairy godmother.
Argent stared saucer eyed at the scene set before her, accompanied by the obvious notion that the banging coming from the vents was probably caused by Jericho, Herald, and Hot Spot. As were most of their shenanigans.
“Sweet Jesus, you two are like the three stooges without any of the comedy.” Argent said flatly with a roll of her eyes as she approached the vent closest to Herald where Hot Spot had presumably been stuck and already reaching out her red plasma energy to get him out.
“Wait!” Hot Spot yelled as if he were Spartan, stopping Toni in her tracks.
Inside the vents, Hot Spot was having a glaring showdown with the opossum that got him into this mess. The black and white mongrel had a coat of silky fur, nothing befitting a trash eating monster, and in his grubby hands, the animal was holding Hot Spot’s missing ring that he’d brought from India.
“Get back here you little snot!” Isaiah cried, using the force of his frustration and anger to finally free his arms and uselessly stretch out all of his limbs to reach the opossum.
The opossum was just barely out of his straining reach, and the animal stuck its tongue out and blew a raspberry with an evil glint in it’s eye, waving around the ring in front of Isaiah’s face before it disappeared further into the vents.
With a few more minutes of loud struggling and grunts of anger, the opossum came to realize that Isaiah was indeed, stuck. The opossum them decided to scurry its way back to Hot Spot, and wave the ring in his face some more, sticking its tongue out and making cartoonish sounding cackling sounds that were almost infuriating enough to rival Herald’s.
With one last grunt of effort, Hot Spot squirmed around uselessly a little more before his elbow knocked the wrong screw, and the entire system seemed to groan in agony.
Both Isaiah and the opossum looked at each other wide eyed, gritting their teeth at what was going to happen next.
“Oh no.” They both seemed to mouth in unison before the ventilation shaft came tumbling down from the ceiling, leaving Isaiah laying painfully in a heap of broken metal, but above all, free from his steel prison.
Despite all the pain surging through his nerves, he still managed to reach out from the rubble and wrap his hand around the opossum’s pink tail.
“Gotcha!” Hot Spot yelled breathlessly, his face covered in dust and his joints screaming at him as the opossum hung helplessly by his tail and didn’t even attempt struggling, opting instead to hide his eyes with his grubby little pink hands.
“Amazing. You are the paragon of a hero, Isaiah.” Argent muttered with another roll of her eyes. Isaiah didn’t care, he was proud of himself, he’d caught Titans North most at large thief.
As Hot Spot panted with the effort it took to slow down his still adrenaline pumped heartbeat from falling from such a height, the opossum took one hand off of its eye so that it could pull the ring out from out of nowhere and slip it back onto one of Isaiah’s dark fingers with a shy smile.
“Uh…thanks?” Isaiah said lamely. Suddenly, the opossum slipped right out of Hot Spot’s grip and was scurrying up and down his shirt and around his waist and under his arm and everywhere else, faster than a flash, before it finally settled in the crook of Isaiah’s neck and started nuzzling into his cheek.
“UM- what?” Isaiah said startled as he froze from the surprise of four grabby feet scurrying all over his body and then halting in the matter of two seconds.
“Aw, I think he likes you Izzy!” Kole called teasingly from her place on the couch.
Suddenly Jericho nearly teleported to where Hot Spot was, already scratching the dirty animal under its chin.
“Oh no- No way! We are not- we can’t- THIS THING IS A VILLAIN! Jericho! Stop scratching it!” Hot Spot cried helplessly, his voice raising nearly an entire octave in an attempt to get Jericho away from the mangy animal.
Suddenly, the opossum scurried around again, stopping when it was right in Hot Spot’s face, holding on by the front of his shirt with big, pleading puppy dog eyes.
It took nearly an entire five minutes, but inevitably Isaiah sighed dramatically and leant his head back in defeat.
“You are not sleeping in my bed.” He said forcefully.

I’m incredibly terrified excited to announce that I’m writing a fic!!! It’s no secret that I have an overwhelming amount of feels for Tsukki. I have spent a shameful amount of time analyzing his character, speculating his motivations, and developing countless head canons. A couple weeks back one of my dear friends on here made a suggestion that I try writing. At the time I totally brushed her off like that was the craziest thing in the world..and here we are now, hah.
This fic will follow Kei’s development from the moment Karasuno lost to Seijoh in Season 1 all the way through the end of Season 3. My goal is to give you all an inside look at what (I think) Kei possibly went through all that time. Actual canon events and conversations will be used (and tweaked, at times) along with many new situations that I think may have happened behind the scenes while the focus was more on Hinata/Kageyama. (And let’s be honest, I really just needed an excuse to write third gym antics)
Chapter 1 will be posted this Friday, but to thank you all for taking the time to read all of this rambling, there is a preview here under the cut! =^^=
Tsukishima Kei understands many things.
He understands the value of education and its necessity for securing a successful future. He understands that a good night’s rest and proper nutrition is crucial for the human body to function as needed. He understands technology, he understands math. He understands Japanese, and more English than most other students he knows. He understands many things because nearly everything seems to just makes sense to him. Nearly, everything, at least.
What doesn’t make sense to Kei is the overwhelmingly pathetic display currently occurring all around him.
Approximately 1 hour earlier, the Karasuno Volleyball Club lost their match against Aoba Johsai, effectively eliminating themselves from the long list of candidates hoping for a shot at the Inter-High Tournament.
Is Kei surprised? No, not in the least. Seijoh is far superior to them in nearly every feasible manner. For crying out loud, half of Karasuno’s team just met 2 months ago. How can you expect a haphazardly strewn together team to be even near the same level as a well-known powerhouse like Seijoh? Such ridiculous thinking sits near the top of the small list of things that don’t make sense to him.
Is Kei disappointed? The answer remains a resounding no. You see, Kei lives his life under the motto of “You’ll never be disappointed if you go into the situation with a negative mindset.” Why even bother hoping for success just to wind up disappointed in the end? This might come as a shock to his ever-positive-thinking teammates, but life isn’t a feel-good movie about a bunch of underdogs that overcome all obstacles and achieve their dreams. Kei realized that years ago.
At first, Kei was surprisingly pleased by how everyone seemed to be taking the loss. The walk out of the gym was refreshingly quiet. No high-pitched shrieking from an unidentified but presumably red-headed source, no shouts from the captain in an attempt to control his hot-headed kouhai, not even a single word from Yamaguchi. This atmosphere lingered with them throughout the bus ride home, which Kei could only describe as silent frustration. Hinata kept his eyes in his lap, furiously picking at the skin around his nails in an attempt to keep himself busy, while Kageyama beside him kept his gaze locked on the window. Whether he was actually looking through it, or just…at it, Kei didn’t know or care. Tanaka and Nishinoya sat a row in front of them, with balled fists and pained expressions. Yamaguchi, beside him, looked like he could sleep for weeks.
Now, he sits begrudgingly along his teammates at a local hole-in-the-wall restaurant. Coach is treating them to dinner, an act of generosity that doesn’t seem very deserving considering the outcome of the match, but Kei is hungry so… he won’t question it. At first, his teammates were slow to grab their food, as if even lifting their chopsticks was too much of a burden for their exhausted bodies. Gradually, their natural instincts kicked in and the room was soon filled with the sounds of dishes clanking, chopsticks scraping, mouths chewing, and noses sniffling.
Wait.
What?
Kei pauses his chewing and glances to the side. Yamaguchi’s eyes are fixed on the bowl in his hands and are unmistakably filled with tears. Beside him, Hinata and Kageyama are shoveling down their food with streams of snot and tears running down their faces. Not surprising, honestly. Kei almost makes a comment until he looks up and realizes that the first years are not the only ones completely falling apart. Both Nishinoya and Tanaka, (who on regular occasions would be boisterously shouting about revenge or giving moronic motivational sentiments), have been reduced to silence, choking back tears of their own. Probably the most shocking sight to see was the state of the third years before him. Asahi, Sugawara, and Daichi, whom Kei had previously thought to be the only members of the team other than himself that were rational human-beings, have completely lost control of their emotions as well.
How lame. Kei thinks to himself, swallowing the chicken still sitting in his mouth.
It doesn’t. make. sense. Why put yourself through this? Why even tell yourself that you have a shot at winning? Don’t they understand that the hope they fool themselves into feeling is the reason they are suffering like this right now?
Looking one last time around the table, taking in the pathetic state of his team, he re-makes the promise he made to himself years ago.
I will never, ever let myself feel that way.
