We've had an angel-ified V1, what do you think of a machine Gabe?
When I first got the game, my only exposure to it was fanart, and I had assumed from what I'd seen that both V1 and Gabriel were robots made in the image of angels. I've seen some people play around with fanart and theories of Gabe secretly being a machine, what do you think of it?
Also, how do you prefer to receive fan art of Fallen Gabe? Sent over inbox or just tagging you?
i'm honestly very split about how i feel about the idea, because i absolutely love gabriel as an angel and actually how that reflects being a machine despite apparently being so much above earthly existence, yet i also think it's incredibly interesting to explore how turning out to be a machine would affect his entire sense of self. so when i do consider the idea, i naturally like to go half in on it with the thought that gabriel was once an angel but was torn apart and remade as a machine by the council basically as an experiment in obedience. so it's sort of a ghost in the shell scenario, leaving gabriel to wonder what this means for his memories, his existence, and even his identity - is he still an angel for presumably still having the "soul" he once possessed? or is he just a construct given gabriel's memories? and it taps into the genuine pointlessness of his service - he wasn't even made by god, he shares no part in heaven. i think it would genuinely lead to a breakdown of his self and personality, not just by feeling "fake", but to think he may not truly be gabriel, just something that stole a dead man's memories and took pride in an identity that was never his. just a foolish computer that believed all the lies programmed into it. an ai that mimicked gabriel's personality and walked around as his macabre copy (because i think even if he truly once was gabriel, he could never know what digitizing that identity did to it).
i will say it also makes a very unique scenario for him seeking out v1 because he finds the wires and circuits beneath the blood in his body and he just. needs help. he needs someone to tell him what he is. and in that intense panic, he flees to the only machine he kind of...knows. and it's very sweet, v1 teaching him about maintenance and figuring out just what kind of computer he is, as well as the dilemma of him likely running on emergency power as the light was his source. of course, v1 doesn't recognize most of his components (heaven-made electronics! cool!), but it doesn't say anything to that effect since it knows all that's gonna do is panic him again - plus it's confident it can figure it out. so i do really like the element of how they might bond over this and how v1 helps gabriel accept himself as he is...as well as the idea that they go hunting to figure out just what happened in his past - if he was ever truly an angel, if he's entirely constructed, or if he's somewhere in-between.
(and you can send it either way! i think it's easiest if you tag me tho :])

Do you have a Frenrey fic recommendations masterlist? I need them for emotional support and to feed my hyperfixation <3
Breaks my knuckles yes
A lot of this is pulled from my bookmarks, which you can peruse for more. I need to read the rest of my fanfics in my tabs, I have so many, fucking help
First and foremost: FUCKING Disconnect. Premise is "Gordon is touch starved and derealized out of his mind and Benrey gives him a hug and there is crying and emotions." It's actually the fic that got me into HLVRAI in the first place! My friend sent it to me like "I know you're not into HLVRAI but I think you'd like this" and it was right. And now I'm stuck here. It's 7k words
All Fools On Deck! Based on @/melonsharks's pirate AU (not tagging them because i don't wanna be annoying), which is exactly what it sounds like. HLVRAI but they're pirates. It's got a load of feels and the sillys and they're so the most, it's 48k words and it just pirate-ifies HLVRAI and I love it sooo much
secure and guard. Post-canon, Benrey's keeping an eye on Gordon but really doesn't wanna go near him because he doesn't wanna hurt him he's protecting him and it causes chemicals in my brain, 4k
bad dreams and soft things, Benrey has a nightmare of Black Mesa and gets comforted and gay kissing and this has one of my favorite paragraphs related to kissing ever it's so soft....... 3k words
top ten benrey fancam moments #1, THIS ONE'S JUST PURE FLUFF BENREY SNUGGLES INTO GORDON'S SWEATER WHILE HE'S STREAMING AND IT'S SO UNBELIEVABLY CUTE HELP HE'S SO CUDDLY THIS MAKES ME VIOLENT It's also 1,069 words which I find funny
Love, Benry and its sequel, Love, Gordon, Gordon finds Benrey's diary and learns ohh shit Benrey's not a heartless monster he's actually FULL OF LOVE and in the sequel there is gay kissing. About 5k words together
because you're like a fever dream but twice as sweet! Logic version: Benrey gets infected by Xen and might genuinely die, content warning for one scene where Benrey's a tad a smidge a bit kinda very suicidal. Emotional version: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Sleep Over, Benrey hibernates and Gordon is in soooo much denial about how gay he is. It's 2.5k words
Pretty much anything Antilocapra writes. Fuckin bangers all the way. I haven't read a few of them due to brain weirdness, but judging by the rest of their fics they're most definitely spectacular. I'm gonna recommend a few specific fics because
Speechless. Holy SHIT. SPEECHLESS. Basically, Gordon loses his voice, canon diverges from there. It recently finished up, and it's REALLY GOOD. The way canon changes is SO GOOD. Bubby is in HELL. CHAPTER FUCKING EIGHT. It's one of those fics that I wanna just like. Make fanart for every chapter. It's about 50k
One Man's Trash. Not a game AU, it's a Frenrey meet-cute and Benrey meets Gordon because he's rummaging in his trash like the fucking creature he is. They can both be creatures, as a treat. Benrey's very gay. About 3k
Alien Abduction, in which Benrey gets kidnapped by the government and is really chill, he gives Gordon military to kill for enrichment and he is so fucking silly. 7k
I was gonna recommend a lot more but I need to hold myself back just you get the gist read Antilo's fics
Uhhhhh and now I recommend my own fics because I can be egotistical if I so wish!! AND I DO SO WISH!!!! /ref
My absolute magnum opus so far: You're still here, and you're beautiful to me. It's got a fuckload of angst, read the content warnings, be careful and take caution. Benrey respawns after Xen, and none of his injuries have healed. And he's kinda very mentally fucked. Again, read the content warnings. I'm really proud of it, I feel it balances humor and angst well, and there's this one conversation that I'm really fuckin proud of. It's 20k words
This one that I didn't name, Benrey's agoraphobic and chronically depressed and runs into Gordon in a grocery store and reunion, I'm so fucking happy I wrote it I can write now, it's 4k
As long as your heart continues to beat. Gordon Fucking Dies that's all I'm gonna say lmao. 3k
If ten million fireflies lit up the world as I fell asleep. I swear to god I don't just write angst, Benrey is full of love, they're gaymers, they have a gay chicken relationship, there's stars, 4k words
Cuddles are the best cure for depression actually, this is my shortest and honestly sweetest fic, they're cuddly because Benrey has depression LOOK AT MY BENREY HAS DEPRESSION HEADCANON BOY about 1k
also (un)forgettable is pretty good and i should read it but the horrors i'm so sorry dims my energy is in the negatives help girl /silly

heres my rant for today: (sorry in advance for long post)
i hate how modern art communities have to “fandom-ify” every single new trendy thing literally DAYS (and sometimes even hours) after it drops. i know this is a lot of the same sentiment as those people that just go “popular thing bad” but honestly it really puts me off some medias because i dont want to associate with anyone else who likes it
do we really need a million different fan ocs and aus for EVERYTHING? and like, i know its nothing new, obviously we have the onceler and undertale aus to look back on, but its exhausting at this point because while those communities were presumably genuine, in the present day it just feels like the fandom equivalent to an industry plant. and most people dont even stick with the thing they decide to make their entire personality!!
remember when spiderverse came out and everyone made spidersonas? who can you name thats actually drawn their spidersona more than once? it feels like everyone just trend hops, and yes i know thats how the internet is but its just exhausting especially when it brings down otherwise creative and inspired works
fnaf security breach: everyone makes fnaf aus and glamrock animatronics, then spiderverse as previously mentioned, then welcome home dropped and thats becoming a shitshow with how yall are fandomizing what is essentially a small creator telling their ocs lore in a creative way, and now its happening with digital circus. im so tired of seeing projects that are cool and visually appealing becoming a cesspit of bland, unoriginal aus and piles of fanart only to get dropped when the new shiny comes out
and i wanna elaborate on welcome home for a second because i know damn well if one of these people who makes “daddy dom priest wally is actually the devil” aus had an oc they loved, and someone came along and made their own aus of it in the same way, that person would bitch and cry oc theft. some people dont even change up the characters design, like how entitled do you have to be to essentially just steal someones oc and call it your own? it disgusts me how people are treating clown and honestly i wish they would put the series on indefinite hiatus or complete their story privately to teach these people a lesson
another thing that puts me off is how every piece of media has to have the “fandom daddy” for lack of a better term. glamrock freddy, hobie brown, wally darling, or jax, its all the same thing repackaged; someones gotta be the tumblr sexyman. its so tiring—ESPECIALLY as a lesbian who doesnt really wanna center men in my life at all—to wanna see fanart of the media you like and its only: “heres the one character everyones horny for drawn in a totally different and more sexualized body type” with everyone in the comments salivating over them. i really like digital circus! but all i see are people who would walk across a mile of broken glass just to suck a fart out of jax’ ass. what about the other interesting characters? why does EVERY conversation with popular media have to be about “which guy is the most fuckable” (guy specifically because come on, when has a female character been the highlight of attention; using the previous example have you seen ONE person talking about digital circus that even remembers zooble exists)
it feels like nobody can appreciate work anymore without having to claim some form of ownership over it, to say “hey this thing is so popular and important that it is now a part of my identity!! look at my millions of ocs that i will draw one time and never again!” im just tired of people being unable to passively interact with media they enjoy and everyone seeming to fight over and prove some connection to the things they like
tldr: im tired of everyone in the art community making heaps of fanart, aus, and fan ocs for stuff the second it gets popular and then totally forgetting about it the next time something else gets popular
(and before yall bring up hyperfixations: i am autistic; i understand having so much love for a piece of media for a short while and then dropping it for no reason and its heart shattering; BUT AT THE SAME TIME this pattern is on oxford to me and its on such a large scale that it infects the greater art community as a whole)
That is indeed the nature of media consumer at its finest. I do feel like it is more appearent now due to the way most social media algorithm works. They only show what is trending at the moment, so naturally, we are exposed only to this specific thing until another trend eventually takes over.
Even artists who never create fan content can be influenced to do so by looking at the other artists, be it to dive in along the hype for the popularity of it, for the geniune fun, for the sense of community, and many more reasons.

Probably a hot take???
People are probably going to hate this and disagree with this, but this is just a random thought that came to mind I've had for a while.
This is probably a hot take in this fandom, but I really think that the Michael Bay Transformers designs and their design philosophies (from 2007 - ROTF and maybe DOTM, at least) really aren't bad. I think they're pretty solid designs. BUT-
One of the most common complaints about them is being "too complicated"/"overdesigned". That is kind of fair ima be real, I can see where they're coming from.
I've been hearing criticism like this a lot recently too. And I've been thinking on it as well. And that made me realize that the Bayverse designs are solid designs (in my opinion, at least), but the over complicatedness is what holds them back, according to mixed opinions from what I've seen in the fanbase, and that the Bay designs work a LOT better when more simplified and stylized looking, but still keeping the original idea and charm the Bay designs have.
I think Bumblebee's design in Bumblebee movie and Rise of The Beasts is a VERY great example of this which I'll be using
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's very obvious that Bayverse Bee is the blueprint for his Bumblebee movie design. And his ROTB design is literally just his 1977 Camaro design from the 2007 movie (from when Bumblebee was possibly going to be a prequel to the Bay films???)
Not sure if anyone else share these feelings with me, but I honestly love the Rise of The Beasts Bee design. It really does show my point of the ideas and design philosophies behind the Bayverse designs are solid, but again just need to be simplified and stylized a bit, but still keep the realism and believability and general charm the Bay designs have to be even more solid.
Heck, 2D/cartoony art styles seen in fanart even proves my point further as well. Y'all see what I'm getting at here?
It honestly makes me curious how any other Bayformers design would look in the style of the Bumblebee movie. I honestly really wanna see how Bayverse Optimus would look like this. I think his design could gain and improve the most being "Bumblebee-ified" in this fashion honestly.
Tumblr media
Now, this could start discussions about the designs. It could start up the whole generic "g1 vs movies" debate and the designs "not being g1" or whatever. It could start up a lot more things that are even more subjective and opinionated than what I'm saying here. But, that is not what this post is about. And I'd rather keep that away from here, because that is not the point of what I'm saying.
My point is about the Bayverse designs themselves and how the designs themselves are IMO good, but can be improved and just need as I keep saying to just be simplified and stylized a bit but still keep the realism and believability the designs have, which is exactly what Rise of The Beasts Bumblebee does compared to Bayverse Bumblebee as an example I've shown here.
But you know what, all I am saying is (very obviously) subjective and my opinion as I keep stating. Maybe I'm just the only one who has these thoughts and notice these things? Like the designs or not? good for you. Like the designs they way they are already? Good for you again, I do too as well. Like the more G1/G1-esque designs better? Good for you as well. We all have our opinions and preferences when it comes to stuff like this lol. All I ask is for this fandom to acknowledge that and be more civil when discussing things like this. But, I digress.
These are just thoughts I've had for a while that I thought would be interesting to share lol

PI NNED POST AUGHG
I will clean this up better later but HELLO YES this is a blog by @nnugatoryextravagance dedicated to my insane OC ramblings
All characters unless specified otherwise exist in the same coalesced mass of the work in progress @crafengoverse-journals but this will be updated much more often and make way less sense I promise
Usual blanket "darker themes" warning here because none of my characters are doing ok in the head or in life lets be real, ill tag things though dontchu worry
If you wanna ask me things or flip on the roleplay oc ask blog switch in my brain my inbox is open wider than your mom please ask me about my ocs please p
Link to my toyhouse if you wanna go snooping too its a complete ass mess right now but yeauh
Ive got some artistic requests for how I want my work to be treated too under the cut as a bonus too I suppose, have fun im gonna go get a drink
Tumblr media
- I'm 100% okay with people shipping my characters together, in fact I actively encourage it, so long as you're not erasing their canon identities (since almost everyone is queer) or making shit thats straight up illegal/dangerously towing the line then go ham I love gay people
- Im also more than okay with fanart ofc, no need to ask first, I will die for you point blank
- Please god behave yourselves, I don't mind too much if I get tags about my oc's boobs or something- but I STRONGLY draw the line at strangers making and posting sexually explicit content with them under ANY circumstance... even if saying this has never worked for any artist ever, egh
- Not to sound like a pissy little baby but each one of my characters are very very dear to me so please go easy on me with any negative feedback I beg god bless (I assure you I already know how ugly they are that was on purpose and part of why I love them)
- Please do NOT commission other artists to draw my characters unless you have my direct say-so, I absolutely love art of my boys and im flattered, but I really dont want the risk of... certain people I used to know getting their grubby hands back on my stuff, if this makes any sense
- If you cishet-ify or white-ify any of my characters who are obviously depicted as/stated as/heavily implied as not that I'm killing us both
might add more later if i feel the need to but i think this is good 4 now

I write about a character per day
Day 16: Willow Park
Alright, let's get this out of the way. I'm just gonna say it, Willow is not a good fat representation. I didn't mind it at first, but it started to make sense, and with the few frames in the ending of her being extremely thin-ified made it even worse, I feel the need to say it. It's a disappointment for sure, since Willow is my kin, and I crave for fat representation as a fat person myself. That being said, I love and respect anyone who draws Willow fat, it honestly means a lot to me. I guess the Willow Park lived in my mind is the fat Willow Park in fanarts. (This may or may not contributed to the reason why I love Steven Universe more, but that's another story for another day)
(Do I want to tag this as fat representation? Probably not, because after this is just me writing about Willow)
Anyway, Willow is my kin, as I relate to her in so many sense. She was bullied, stressed, had a breakdown, and a nerd. She's so awesome. The friend, the reliable helper of everyone, yet sometimes still need someone to rely one. So many similarities to Steven Universe as well, and she's not even the biggest main character.
Where do we even begin with this complex character? How about from the beginning with her best friend, then bully, then best friend again. Willow was striped away from Amity's group by Amity's parents (can't thank Odalia enough, Alador didn't help either). And nothing's worse than your old friend just embracing your bully and joining to bully you. Like I feel that. It sucks. It's a stab in the back. Do I feel like there should be more time for them to talk about things? Maybe, there're a lot of things we didn't see in the show. Ever since the dreadful moment of Amity tried to burn the memory of Willow, things changed quite drastically. It only took Amity a near death experience and she and Willow is fine again. After that, it all went pretty for them, from prom pic to the grudgby team. There are still moments of them stepping on each other in Labyrinth Runners, but overall it settled down. Amity no matter how far away she distanced herself from Willow, just managed to get back to her closer than ever.
Would Amity reconcile with Willow without Luz? It's an interesting question, but I can tell you that no, it wouldn't happen. Luz built so many bridges in the show, but the bridge between Willow and Amity is one of the greatest. Willow meant a lot to Luz. Luz's first friend is Willow. Willow helped Luz experiencing life outside of the owl house, while Luz helped Willow opened up to others more. Luz loved hanging out with Willow and Gus, probably more than Eda and King. And on the other hand, when either got in trouble (mostly just Luz), Willow seeked help for her. It kinda disappointed me a bit that Willow and Luz doesn't interact nearly as much in Season 2 and 3, they had such a good time in Season 1 terrorizing the Isles with the Moon spell for funsies.
Willow is like a big sister in Hexsquad, and it showed quite clearly towards Gus. I think Labyrinth Runners isn't one of the best episode of the show plot-wise because so many backgrounds of characters being explained. Willow found Gus in a panic attack, helped him out and started a long time friendship in Hexside. Two students that are pretty alienated inside the school, found each other and help each other. It amplifies the need of someone to rely on when you're alienated.
Her confidence improved significantly during Season 2, as we saw in Any Sports in a Storm. That scene of her just controlled the entire team with her power while pulling Hunter down. I talked about Huntlow before, they were nice, they helped each other, Hunter saved Willow when she had her breakdown. Everyone acknowledged Willow's contribution to helping people, but Hunter is the first to appreciate it so much, to value her higher than she thought. All my hatred towards Boscha can turn into love and delivered to Hunter, because Hunter had pulled Willow out of self-doubt and self-devaluation.
I don't think I could hold that much pressure at a young age, let alone being alienated and bullied out of existence like Willow. And that's something that I will appreciate a lot from Willow and Steven Universe, they're physically strong but not as strong mentally, and it is fine. They love helping others, but forget to help themselves. They tried to hide it from others, but the more they hide the worse it got. They taught us a valuable lesson of opening up to those you can trust, and mutually come to a solution.

L is just a name like Bond. you can't tell me that anime L, kenichi's L and kento's L are all supposed to be the same person. THE VIBES. THE VIBES ARE OFF
NAH YOURE RIGHT THOUGH I totally feel like every version of L is a different person. my favorite part about this idea is that I can imagine them all fighting

Where can I read Tapers? I've seen your fanart of it.
Respectfully i will straight up not tell you. Its out there and there are ways to find it and if you really think you need to read it you can find it but i dont link it to people for the following reasons:
1) The guy who wrote it appears to have purposefully buried it and doesn't stand by it anymore. It's 10+ years old, which is probably why.
2) I personally don't think its worth it. while its a piece of art that has a lot of meaning to me, it is extraordinarily bleak, was personally an extremely difficult read, +is not particularly tactful about its subject matter, so i dont feel comfortable giving it to people. I wouldnt recommend anyone read it for any reason.
hope that makes sense and doesnt seem bitchy. I feel like it would be disrespectful to go around showing it to people given those two reasons. Seriously like, I REALLY mean it this time I dont think you should read it, if you want to read it you shsould just go watch petscop again. hope that makes sense sorry you saw my art and got sucked into it. I probably will not post art i make about it (ifi make it) ever again for this reason LOL

No worries if you don't feel like answering this, but why is fanart allowed to be sold at public places like conventions and fanfiction is always presented as shouldn't be paid toward? I fully understand why it cannot be advertised on Ao3 in any way for legal reasons, but I don't understand why doing private commissions is seen as the worst thing but fanart is often allowed, even to the point of being mass produced sometimes?
Traditioooooooon! Tradition!
No, really, that’s most of the answer. This is a very longstanding drama/dispute/double standard. There are some factors that probably contribute though:
It’s a lot harder to tell if a cartoony drawing is Legolas or a generic elf than to tell that fanfic with the name ‘Legolas’ all over it is about him.
US comics don’t pay a living wage, so selling art of the same characters on the side is a common revenue stream for the pros and the companies turn a blind eye. (Or so I am told.)
People feel like art is being sold as the original or numbered prints or at least a printout, while fic is not. (And, yes, discourse around selling fic was very different in the era of zines when people did have to cover their costs for paper and ink.) Whether or not it’s true that artists need to cover materials costs, that’s how people feel.
That said, fan art can and does get attacked legally by rights holders all the time. Plenty of cons have kicked out plenty of individual artists. Plenty of web stores have had to take items down.
----
As for why I dislike it: It fucks with fandom culture.
I have always been into fic and then later got into vids. I’ve never been that into fan art. I do look at some of the pro-looking stuff, and it’s pretty, but I haven’t been in the community, so I can’t really speak to how money affects it on a social level.
(OTOH, I think that the presence of commercial concerns in fan art communities is part of why I never found them appealing. Don’t assume that the people who hate fic commissions are actually okay with art being sold. More likely, we just realize it’s not a battle we can win.)
In the case of these other areas, the fact that no writer (or vidder) is getting paid is essential. The minute anyone is getting paid, you are looking at media pros and customers, not friends sharing their hobby with each other.
I enjoy some of those youtubers who have patreons. I even back a few of them. They are not my peers. They are not my friends.
I enjoy m/m romance novels, have been to the industry conference, GRL, and have met a bunch of authors whose work I like. I back some of those patreons too. We are not friends. We are friendly, but I am their customer. Or perhaps I am their patron, which is an unequal relationship in the opposite direction.
Both of these industries experience a massive push towards content that gets clicks or that attracts the largest paying audience. Neither of them rewards rare or sporadic content in the way that AO3 does. I routinely get random kudos on years-old vids made of obscure sources nobody would be looking for and certainly no one would pay money for a fanwork of.
If we want fandom to be a hellscape of even more juggernaut ships and nothing else, by all means, monetize. If we want fic readers to be entitled customers or lowly peons not worthy to kiss the boots of fic writers instead of peers and friends, sure.
It’s like when your friend comes to your dinner party only to harass all of your social circle about joining their pyramid scheme. They can’t afford not to do that, but they’re doing it on the back of your hard work to make the party happen, and they’re destroying both their own relationships with everyone present and, potentially, yours.
Also, like the hapless people who sell leggings or try to get Youtube famous nowadays, making real money is mostly a pipe dream. There is no big upside here unless you’re one of a handful of BNFs who can produce vast bodies of work about certain juggernaut ships on command. Meanwhile, you’ve shat up the social space for everyone else.
Gig-ifying fanfic fandom is anathema. It destroys what is socially valuable. THIS is the real reason that commercial spam is banned on AO3. We who built AO3 come from a fandom culture that does not like this, and we did not want it infesting our space. Yes, there are good legal reasons to do it too, but a big part of it is that they who build the infrastructure make the rules.

So i binged Blood of Zeus
Pros:
1. Very attractive character design so of course it’s gotta be #1 (i mean just look at apollo)
2. Only 8 eps 40ish minutes each so if you want to binge it in a day, that’s very possible
3. The giants were a really cool concept, (con #6: wish they werent just a plot device and had bigger roles)
4. It’s a typical Zeus/Hera story basically so if you’re into that i guess
5. You’ll root for Heron, or at least i did, poor thing was thrown into all of this
6. Very clean animation, id say cleaner than Castlevania (but castlevania was better off using the rough-animation)
Cons:
1. It’s a typical Zeus/Hera story: whatever the true mythological greek myth characterization of both zeus and hera are, it really took away from enjoying the show, like all hera had to do was castrate this man, honestly, idk if heron’s story is a real myth, or not, but if it was made up for the show they really i think could have done more, made it more complex, ya know, like how many of these “Zeus was horny, Hera directed her anger at innocent ppl” stories do we need? I think as a society we have progressed past the need for more zeus apologetic stories
1.5: the plot is super simple, i can only really describe it as bland but maybe this show just wasnt for me, they did leave it on a “cliff hanger” (idk it could be one) but like hades ≠ satan, and ik im not the only one in the tag that thinks so (a friend of mine wrote a paper on the whitewashing/christian-ifying of the greek gods and it applies here, zeus ≠ god and hades ≠ satan)
2. Beside from evil jealous female, the women really didnt have any role, barely any speaking lines so woohoo i guess
3. WHY IS THIS CALLED AN ANIME???? This really pissed me off, like, BoZ isnt what id categorize as a cartoon, but it’s clearly not anime, art style is completely different, made in the US, doesnt even have the same feel as anime; we americans should just call these animated shows aimed at adults like BoZ and castlevania ~animation~ why do we have to stick our animated shows into a label where it doesnt belong just for the sake of expanding your audience im sure if there are americans watching anime they’re also watching cartoons and other animated shows we dont need american animation pretending to be anime
4. I liked the voice actors, they had very strong voices, i just dont think they really worked they took me out of the fantasy or in other words prevented me from disbanding my disbelief and really getting into the show, but im sure other people found the voice acting fine and not a big deal and im probably just being picky bcuz i was watchign the show too closely after my first impressions
5. After looking at the tag and reblogging the very amazing fanarts and gifs of the good looking characters, i came across a post saying the cast was diverse, and....i guess? They all looked like they were based off of the standard white european set with few exceptions. Like, the only characters i found having the same face syndrome were the women, but lets face it, they were quite irrelevant to the show, idk, ppl need to relook at greece and realize not everyone there is white****, greek people just do not look like northern european ppl, like take the average greek person and comparw them to the average english person, there are distinct differences bcuz greece is a mediterranean country, there are more skintones and face structures than white, like why do we have to continue making Zeus the white ideal????? He reminded me more of a norse god than greek god liek did they use Chris Hemsworth’s Thor as a model reference? (*****Ok, upon posting this i immediately looked at rhe characters again, and i will say that the skintones arent just white, they do have a good gradient of skintones, idk, maybe this is bcuz im white myself but looking at the character designs, like they’re face structures and body types, and a lot of them just read north european to me, and not mediterranean, like it looks like english ppl with different skintones paint-bucketed in, but im picking at fine details here, i will take back what i said about the skintones, but zeus still looks like thor)
Take my comments as just comments, im not demanding you not watch it, make your own decision; i was just moved so much by the show to make this post (also i just cant spell and dont care to fix them)

Some silly Gintama nerdery...
I've seen some neat fanart and some meta thoughts on which Hogwarts house to put Gintama characters in, and I wanted to join in. But then I maybe started to consider it too seriously, thinking of what we know (some spoilers ahead behind the cut, if vague ones) of what Gintoki, Katsura and Takasugi were like when they were 11 in canonverse. Also what we might extrapolate about Sakamoto, Shinpachi and Kagura. Also I needed to figure out if this was Harry Potter-verse, Harry Potter-influenced AU-verse, or if the characters had just been plucked from the canonverse like a portal crossover AU, transporting them directly from sort-of feudal Japan to either Hogwarts proper or some Hogwarts-ified Japanese magical school.
I went with "in this AU Hogwarts is now in Japan, okay, and Gintama-style feudal Japan always had secret wizards in it, who now need to adapt to the new futuristic world with aliens just like everyone else".
But whatever! Whether Shōyō is the only one to be portalled in from canonverse, and find himself to his bemusement being given a position of some kind at Now-In-Japan!Hogwarts, or he is also from this AU and wounded up associated with this same Hogwarts for contorted reasons, the point is that the school gives him the task of collecting two orphans (Gintoki and Katsura) who will turn 11 soon, as those two don't have caretakers to look out for them and tell them what to get and where to go. In essence, do what Hagrid did for Harry, though there are no Dursleys.
Shōyō meets young Gintoki first in a situation that might not be too different from canon. Only instead of -- or in addition to -- giving the boy his sword and telling him he can teach him how to use it right, he would bring magic into it. Confirming for Gintoki that yes, you're a wizard, but there are others like you, and you can go to school and learn how to use it right.
After he gets little Gintoki to follow him, Shōyō goes on to meet little Katsura with Gintoki in tow. Katsura already comes from a wizard family, even if his parents and grandmother are all gone now, but it does mean he knows the basics at least, and he's read up on things in secret so he's fairly well-informed for his age and situation.
Then the three of them run into little Takasugi, who's already got his Hogwarts letter in the mail and wasn't too surprised. He's from a wizard family and while he always gets told he's a disappointment, he does know he has magic. Already very much at odds with his family and his class background and eager for new influences, he's intrigued and then impressed by Shōyō from the start, and when something happens on the way to Now-In-Japan!Hogwarts (train breaks down or something? airship accident? terrorism?) he jumps on the opportunity to follow Shōyō and the other two boys to make their own way to the school. They have a number of adventures on the way there, getting to know each other. Gintoki and Takasugi start to spar (with magic? no, probably just training swords, I don't see Shōyō allowing magical duels yet at this point) and Takasugi loses, wanting a rematch of course.
Okay, so! That's the set-up. The sorting, now... Takasugi I would in terms of personality absolutely put in Slytherin, no questions about it. EXCEPT it makes a difference if we're talking Fanon!Slytherin, as the Edgelord House -- which would very much appeal to young Shinsuke -- or closer to canon Slytherin, as the Bigot Establishment House. What we know of Takasugi's family suggests they might well be in favour of Bigot Establishment House for Shinsuke. Which would then make Takasugi adamant about turning away from it, and instead picking the house that's always in conflict with Slytherin, namely Gryffindor.
If Gintoki is Sorted before Takasugi and goes to Gryffindor, that would make another incentive for Takasugi to argue with the Sorting Hat that that's where he want to go (so he can keep sparring with that annoying permhead boy and finally defeat him!). Given his courage and recklessness I can see the Sorting Hat reluctantly agreeing if Takasugi really insists.
Most of all, though, Takasugi would want to be in whichever House would be most associated with Shōyō.
Shōyō wouldn't really care about things like Houses, however, and would probably try to avoid being given any such association. Which he probably could, as an adult teacher. If he for whatever reason was forced to pick a House to be tied to, it would be either Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw. I'm thinking probably Ravenclaw.
Young Katsura the scholarship student would most likely be a Ravenclaw and probably happy for it. He also has Hufflepuffy leanings at that age. His older self is cunning, ruthless and ambitious enough that Slytherin is a good choice, too, but I don't know if that would have been as true when he was little. Nor am I sure if the Sorting Hat would sense his huge idealistic streak and suggest Gryffindor as an alternative... However, if both Gintoki and Takasugi are sorted before him (won't happen if they go by alphabet, but there could be other orders), and if they both go to Gryffindor, little Katsura might go, "But I need to go where those two idiots are, they need looking after!" and also insist on Gryffindor. Otherwise, though, I'd say Ravenclaw.
Young Gintoki honestly feels more like Gryffindor than anything else. The emphasis on hard work for Hufflepuff would probably put him off that House, and he liked to fight and spar a lot, which feels Gryffindor-ish. Even looking at adult canon-age Gintoki his very core values are about protecting others regardless of cost to himself. He's unlikely to go into Ravenclaw or Slytherin (ambition? what ambition?). Though like for Takasugi if Shōyō does have an association to one House that could be the deciding factor for him.
...Although maybe it could go the other way around and it would be Shōyō who'd pick Gryffindor over Ravenclaw, if he has to make any House choice, because Gintoki's been sorted into Gryffindor and he wants to look out for him.
Then again, maybe Shōyō would start an after-school club for students who want to learn a new approach to magic, a club that would be open to all students from all Houses. In that case Gintoki, Katsura and Takasugi would be his first three students, and it might not mattes as much if they're all in different Houses.
So to sum up: if Gintoki's sorted first, and there's no such club, and Takasugi's folks are Slytherin, they all go to Gryffindor.
Otherwise it's Gintoki-Gryffindor, Katsura-Ravenclaw and Takasugi-Slytherin.
Oh, and Sakamoto must come in later as some kind of exchange student in like the third or fourth year or something. I see him as either a Gryffindor or a surprise-Slytherin (because he's highly ambitious!).
Now for Shinpachi and Kagura. Here I don't have any detailed background thoughts. I guess Kagura just happens to make the decision to go to Earth three years earlier -- maybe a good opening came up in a passing spaceship -- and once she's there she gets the Hogwarts letter, shrugs and turns up, chewing sukonbu. (Maybe Gintoki is even a teacher there by now...)
Shinpachi is easy. Hufflepuff, Hufflepuff, Hufflepuff. Yes, he wants to be stronger and more reliable than he starts out as: he wants to be able to protect more people, which might look Gryffindory. But I think of that more as "Gintama samurai values" than solely Gryffindory values, and Gintama teaches that you can be your own kind of samurai in any case. Shinpachi is very aware of his Hufflepuff-y personality and that's what he bases himself on, even as his values might be a little bit more Gryffindor than is Hufflepuff standard.
Kagura is more tricky, because if you look at her core values (family, belonging, not being lonely) they're more Hufflepuffy than anything else. But her personality in general might well overshadow that. I'm thinking the Sorting Hat might not be able to see all the way to those values but be overwhelmed by her bright shining forthright Kaguraness and the best thing it could do would be HOUSE OF HEROES, that is to say Gryffindor.
However, would Kagura listen or not? She might take his word for it because whatever. Or she might instead turn a deaf ear and insist on some House because of a flip association that has nothing to do with reality. "I heard Slytherin is good for cool heroines!" or "I saw a fat kid who's a Ravenclaw, so I bet Ravenclaws get the most food and I want that!!" or "I want whichever House is most likely to give me a big magical creature I can play with without hurting it!!" All up in the air, really.
