- The cannibals don’t have eyes because they eat them after they regenerate. Cannibal town works so well because no one actually dies they just take turns being eaten before regenerating. Cannibals are NOT hellborn, rather most of them are victorian folks who indulged in the mummy craze.

- Molly died before angel dust, i think she died in a shooting because of the mafia when they were teens/young adults. Hence why Molly was never really involved in the family business and I think it could also account for Angel’s turn to illicit substances.

- Angel and Husk knew each other in life, maybe even hooked up briefly. Husk is actually the younger of the two but not by a lot.

- Charlie used to have another group of sinner friends but they were all killed in the first extermination.

- Angel and Alastor are the only ones of the main crew who were never married in life.

- Nifty got married her senior year of high school and did her best to be the perfect wife. She had some fertility issues and had mental breakdown, causing her husband and family to have her institutionalized. After a while she escaped and took out her rage on her husband and her older cousin who he was cheating on her with. She ended up setting the house on fire and causing a small explosion in which she lost an eye. However she tried to continue her rampage, going to her parents where her father was the one who shot her down.

- Vaggie was never alive. Rather she was created to care for children souls in heaven before she was recruited to be an exorcist. Part of the reason she became an exorcist was to protect the kids. She was under the impression that all children went to heaven. Though when she went to kill the cannibal kid, she realized she was wrong and the system was far more flawed than she realized.

- Angel was a an overlord under his father for the first few years he was in hell (leaving after he realized that he didn’t need to pretend he wasn’t gay anymore)

- Every so often Charlie locks her self away to cry about the idea of losing all here friends

- Alastor has a very strict moral code when it comes to who he kills. He only kills those who take advantage or abuse of others. Which is why he didn’t kill Husk when he could’ve.

- Nifty and Alastor would tag team Valentino so hard

- Part of the reason Vaggie didn’t put together that Angelic weapons could harm angels is because she thought she had already fallen before her eye was cut out. She thought the mere thought of questioning the system made her fall.

- Valentino has a major superiority complex, so he thinks he’s the one in charge of the Vees when in reality he’s the last person to be consulted on big decisions.

- Vox was a small local news reporter with dreams of going national. Unfortunately that never happened as he was killed by a falling set piece on live, making him more famous in his death than in his life.

- Sir Pentious had two sons when he was alive. One lived well into adulthood, the other died when he was barely a teen from typhoid or some other old timey disease. It’d be the same disease the Pent ends up dying from. Though not before he starts obsessing over how to cure it, his other son continues his work and ends up discovering the vaccine for it.

- Pentious was a snake’s oil salesman for most of his life.

- Nifty had a lobotomy in life

- If others hadn’t been there, the val and charlie would’ve ended much differently(she was ready to kill him before angie stopped her)

- Charlie has tried to cut her hair short(like pixie) multiple times but whenever she loses control of her powers it just grows back, the only loophole for some reason being and undercut or side cut. as long as the hair on the crown of her head is long it’s fine.

- Alastor’s mom was a teen mom; my brain says 13 or 14. Her parents kicked her out after they found out she was pregnant forcing her to become fully dependent on her (now) husband. They had a shotgun wedding and a really tumultuous marriage. His dad left them both when he was 5 or 6. He also isn’t an only child though i’m not sure if he has a younger sibling or older. probably younger.

- Husk’s actual name is Jack, it’s part of his deal with Alastor that his old name was sold to Alastor. Him and anyone who knew him as Jack have completely forgotten it, they know his past but think he’s always been Husk. I’d like to think if he or anyone else rediscovers his name the deal would broken, kind rumplstisken vibes.

- Quite a lot of the sinners had kids in life, most of them assume that their kids ended up in heaven.

- Sir Pentious’ sons did end up in heaven and recognized him instantly and was elated to see his dad after so long.

Oh, I haven't told you about some of the worst things happening right now (medically)

So, we have dengue, we do have vaccines, they are 100k pesos (or they were when I last saw news, which is about 100 dollars, this is what I use to live for a month), repellant is also expensive as fuck, last time I was one it was 3k pesos, but god knows how expensive they are getting

Usually vaccines are fucking free, this is happening because of the new government

Most of my family already got dengue at some point, I haven't, dengue can be fucking deadly, we have people that died already, and it's bad, it's really bad

It's not worse because we have protocols for this since I was a kid and even with those PEOPLE DIED, and instead of making the stuff available for people to protect themselves, the stores and pharmacies makes them more expensive, because ''free marker'' or whatever the president says

I’m absolutely in love with A Samurai and Ninja Love Story! I don’t know how many times I’ve re-read A World of Samurais and Ninjas, and I keep a tab open on my phone browser for Two Worlds of Family, Friends, and Foes so that way when it updates, I know!

I did have a headcanon I wanted to share with you regarding when Usagi, Gen, and Kitsune get over to Leo’s world and wasn’t sure if it was already something posted or not so forgive me if it was but sometime after they arrive they need to get their vaccinations because that’s important since the trio’s world is similar to feudal Japan and so wouldn’t have the same modern medicine Leo’s world has.

But that means bloodwork needing to be done and vaccine shots needing to be given out.

Not going to lie I have had this thought myself for a while. Yes! They will need to get their vaccines. There are a lot of them and that means a lot of needles.

They have nothing like this in their world. On one hand this sounds amazing. One little piece of medicine can spare you from contracting horrific diseases. Sign them up.

However they also don’t have needles in their world either and being poked a lot is not fun for anyone especially having to be poked over and over again.

Their immune systems are totally different then Leo’s and his family because the disease in their world are very different.

I think they would have to do them in sets with time in between. You don’t want to over work the body and they have a lot of different shots they need to get.

Gen hates them. They were all excited at the idea of not getting super sick. Then they got the first round of shots. Gen found out he does not like needles. He tries to talk his way out of it every time. But Leo is insistent. He does barter with food sometimes to make it less of a hassle. If they get through the shots with minimal complaint Gen gets to pick dinner. He’s fine with this as long as Mikey’s cooking. (Gen loves food and Mikey loves to cook)

Kitsune grins and bares it for the most part. She doesn’t like it, but she’s seen what illness can do and would rather deal with a little poke then have to suffer later. She is a drama queen about it though more for fun then anything else and to see if she can get Gen to go along with her.

Usagi hates needles. He found this out very fast and would rather have them as far away from him as possible. He knows it is important both for his own health and to Leo so he puts on a brave face. He will ONLY take shots from Leo. If Draxum or Donnie tries he is out of there. (Maybe there is a scene in a Jupiter Jim movie where he gets injected with something he shouldn’t be. Maybe by a mad scientist. And ever since they watched that movie Usagi is even more wary of needles, specifically needles wielded by the mad scientist of the family) if Casey jr. tries to help he will accept it but only if Leo is with in reach. He definitely wants cuddles after each time he has to get shots and Leo would never deny him.

This leads though to the rest of the Tenshu and their kids.

After they adopt Sakura and Ume there is an illness that sweeps through the Tenshu. No one there is vaccinated. Babies aren’t vaccinated until they are 6 months old. Up until then they are protected by mom’s vaccines. But the twin’s mother was not vaccinated. They get sick. Really sick. This is what cause Leo and Usagi to leave early to take care of the twins.

Up until then I think Leo would have been helping out in the infirmary as he is vaccinated. He helped as much as he could.

I think once the twins are better they would go back to the Tenshu with vaccines for the people living there.

This only makes the rumors of the Geishu clan being blessed by the gods so much worse because now the Tenshu rarely falls victim to wide spread illnesses. Yes they have colds and mild flus but nothing like the other castles and villages around them.

Here's how I almost got sucked into a cult through homemaking and how Cyberpunk saved me

I have the time and the spoons today so I want to talk about this. This is prolly going to be a very long post but I feel like its important to talk about this.

Let me start with my mental state around 2020 or so. I was in a bad place.

I found out that my brother had been the one to publicly deface my home a few months back. This, on its own, trigger massive anxiety and paranoid episodes for me that I still struggle with badly today. A few weeks before I found out, someone falsely called Social Services on me. This would be the second time I got a false call(the first one had nothing to do with my brother and the person not admitted they were wrong but left the entire fucking county). The social service call happened while my MIL was in the hospital from a stroke. I was in an extremely dark place. The world was against me and now I had proof. I felt that the cars that drove by my house were watching me. I still have days where I'm convinced my neighbors are out to get me(they are not). I didn't know what to do. I looked into therapy but couldn't afford it. I learned that my brother was making fun of me behind my back. For my clothes, my home even my religion. My mindset was:If someone who is supposed to protect me, someone who is my family will treat me like this, then what will the rest of the world do to me? I was scared, I was angry, I was vulnerable. I felt I had no community anywhere and I didn't speak to most of my friends for a year.

I threw myself into my house. Trying to manically make it perfect. I found the term "homemaking" and started joining groups, following pages. Here was a group of people who understood me! The world was against them too! It was taboo and different for a woman to stay at home instead of working. The world was against me too! I had the proof! And somehow, I felt home. I didn't notice the roof was on fire, I couldn't smell the smoke, I was just happy to be in a living room. They too had been attacked by the world for being different, just like me! Shortly after, I found the term "tradwife" and while I didn't vibe with it, I was so deep that I couldn't see. These people just wanted to live their lives! Why would everyone attack them? So what if they were Christian? Maybe the supported trad-gender roles but I couldn't see past anything. I was part of a community that knew what it felt like to be alone and have the world against you.

I slowly stopped dressing in the goth/emo fashion I'd worn since 13. I was grown up now, and really, wasnt that for kids? I needed to be taken legit as a parent and a spouse I needed to make sure no one would ever hurt me again so I had to make myself small. Sure, they were submissive to their husbands but I was too! Maybe a different kind of submissive(wink, wink, nudge nudge locking necklace) but they understood submissiveness. I started wearing more dresses and for the first time in my life, I looked "normal" like everyone else.

This led me to more alt right accounts. Sure, they were extreme, and I didn't believe all the transphobic, homophobic and sexist stuff they posted but for the first time in my life, I ignored it. I spoke out if I felt strong that day but often, I kept following them because they understood me! They knew how it felt to be attacked like I had.

Then I fell deeper. I started to regret getting the COVID vaccine. What had I done to my body? What unknown spooky shit was in my veins? Maybe that was the reason my period was messed up and not the massive stress I was under. Maybe wearing mask indoors was bullshit? Why should anyone have a say over my body but me!!!111!!! After all, they understood me. I was a homemaker, like them. We all talked about how the world was against us, we were the rebels because the most outlaw thing we could do was make a dinner plate for our husbands afterall.

I took my they/them pronouns off my profiles. I started wondering if I really was bi. Me being bi didn't matter afterall because I'm with a cisgendered man. it wasn't important anymore. What was important was being a good woman, doing the best I could for my husband. I found community. I was happy. The house was on fire but I was high off the fumes. I didn't notice what was happening to me.

I decided I needed a new game to play. Figured it was high time I played Cyberpunk 2077 since I hadn't touched it since 2020. At this point it was early 2022. Something spoke to me in a way. I played as my V and fell in love with the game. I started thinking about how this was something my homemaking friends wouldn't like. My tumblr page was all about homemaking. But something about Cyberpunk made me look around.

I don't know what it was. The anti-corpo message, the beauty of Night City, Johnny Silverhand making me question if I am cis but suddenly, shit didn't add up. Why was I following these people who would hate me if I was married to woman? Why was I in groups who thought it was a woman's duty to be submissive to a man? Jesus fucking Christ what the fuck was I doing? This wasn't me. I didn't want to wear dresses all the time, they give me chub rub. Sure I'm submissive to my husband because its hot and gets me off and he's my Dom but I still have a voice. I started to look around and I figured out, that no one cared that I was a stay-at-home mom. The world wasn't against me. In fact, most people were fine with a woman staying home with her kid. That was all I could think as I drove around Night City: what the fuck was I doing??

I woke up one morning and found Roe V Wade was overturned.

All of these people screamed in victory because yay! Rights for the unborn....right? No. No not right. Then they turned against me. It didn't matter that medically it would be unsafe if I got pregnant. That was my purpose as a vagina owner. To be bred by my husband and not in the sexy role playing way and I should be honored to carry a child no matter how the fetus got into my body. Suddenly the living room I was sitting in, wasn't just on fire but being fueled by the people in it. Splashing gasoline and then calling it water.

One day, I broke. I left almost all of the homemaking groups I was in (the few I'm still in are very inclusive), I redid my tumblr page. I changed my URL to what it is now and made a short post about how I could no longer be part of the homemaking community and that it was time I started being "me" again. I joined the Cyberpunk fandom and started having fun again. I started writing.

I needed a new podcast and started listening to one simply called "Cults". Slowly, things fell into place. At first I kind of laughed at anyone foolish enough to believe that some white dude from Ohio was Jesus. But then I started listening. The ex-cult members spoke about how they were hurting, lonely, scared, angry and looking for community and something to believe in. And then I looked in the mirror. And I understood why they thought some white dude from Ohio was jesus. Because they were hurting the same way I had been and they just wanted to feel accepted, like me.

Now we are here. Its 2023. I've bleached my hair, I'm back to dressing like a Myspace reject because it makes me happy. I re-added my pronouns. And I crawled out of that burning house without making a sound. Well, now I'm screaming about it.

The trad community is a cult. The alt right is a cult. And it damn near sucked me in. Because I was bleeding and hurt and broken. But they never saved me. They just pushed me further into isolation. I'm still working on cleaning out my social profiles due to it. If you ever find an old post of mine that seems way out of it for me, let me know. I'm still cleaning the digital mess.

If you wish to judge me, hate me, unfollow me for this. Then that's okay. I'm ready for any hate I may get from this. But I need to be honest. Because this can happen to anyone. You are not too smart, too pretty or too whatever. Because I thought I was. And I wasn't. I was vulnerable. And someone where between Night City and black lipstick, I found my way out.

Like any other good crown prince, Alberu also has someone he has been betrothed to since he was young. ___, the daughter of one of the most influential dukes in the kingdom was a good fiance, and is just a good person overall.

Alberu Crossman would’ve worried about his secret leaking if his fiance wasn’t personally handpicked by his mother. The half dark elf made sure to engage her son with someone she knows she can trust, someone who knows and holds their secret dearly. A family that is friendly with their kind, the outcasted dark elves.

The two luckily got along well. Their time was filled with mostly rainbows and butterflies, pretty teacups and flowers, just good things. As they spend more time together their feelings for each other also grow deeper. From merely acquaintances who were betrothed to childhood lovers that break rules just to have fun.

Everything was supposedly picture perfect.

Money, name, power, love. The young couple almost had everything. But there is one factor that prevents them from being the picturesque that exist in novels and fairy tales.

___ was chronically ill. 

Thankfully, even if there’s no cure it’s manageable and the princess mostly lived a normal noble life like a normal child. She was able to play, study, and overall live like any other kid who’s tied with royalty.

But of course there were still restrictions.

Although the Duchess and Duke tried their best for her to not get sick it’s not completely unavoidable. Thanks to their efforts though the crown princess rarely gets sick. But on the rare chance she does, it’s always the most pitiful thing to watch.

Wheezing in pain, unable to sleep, mages and saint’s have to constantly watch over her until she fully recovers, the poor child is always on the verge of death with every fever she experiences. Young Alberu was always beside every time it happened too. Playing nurse while trying not to stay strong for her as he needs to be her rock.

The dukedom is really protective of its one and only princess. Lot’s of restrictions are implemented. An even stricter schedule than normal is followed. Escorts everywhere.

The young girl understands it’s all for her. She’s mature enough to realize that they are just concerned for her well being. But that doesn’t make the whole thing less suffocating.

“Princess you must follow your schedule thoroughly”

“Honey you know you can only eat those once a month, just wait for a few weeks more okay?”

“My lady please don’t go anywhere without at least one of us behind you.”

“Dear daughter, this is for you. We just want you to live a happy and healthy life”

But she wasn’t happy. Well not mostly. Good thing she has a cheat code in the form of Alberu Crossman. The only one who gets how she feels. The one who offers her a little bit of a fresh breath no matter the cost.

“You don’t have to do this all the time, you know that right?”

“I know but I don't do it because I have to, I do it because I love you!”

Alberu says it 

Everyone can see how much the couple truly love and care for each other. Their parent’s couldn’t have been more proud. Sure there it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows but they’ll make sure that these two children will be able to get past the hurdles they’ll face. Alberu’s mom especially made sure of this.

“Remember my son, this is a precious thing. Only use it when you have no other choice, and make sure that you won’t regret using it. I know it’s tempting to use it right now, but no. Not when there’s still hope of finding a cure.”

Star of healing, probably the most precious thing Alberu received from his mother was also her parting gift to him. Till the end she had the two children in mind even when she can feel she doesn’t have long.

Alberu made sure to listen to his mother. He kept the ancient power he received from everyone except his fiance.

“Of course I understand silly! Even if auntie didn’t say that I still would’ve prevented you from using it on me.”

Flexing her arms as if to show how strong she was, the young couple agreed and laughed. With the prince still promising that if she gets worse he’ll use the power on his princess.

Y’all.In my wildest dreams l never thought l’d be telling you such as this. 

The Diamond (RIP) and Silk Show just had a finale that no series on TV could rival because, quite frankly, it went off the rails and crashed so hard even your faithful correspondent had to put down her tea and check her pulse. 

Silk had a memorial for her sis live-streamed on RSBN (Right Side Broadcasting Network).I watched it.

Oh stop. I watched so you didn’t have to.It was sad at first. A woman has died, and perhaps she didn’t have to. Obviously there were people who loved her. And loss is hard for anyone, even idiots.

But it became a shitshow of such unparalleled proportions that 

1.) Aliens living in nearby star systems canceled all abductions of humans and halted cattle mutilations until this mess gets sorted out, and 

2.) Were I ever under the influence of LSD and Diet Coke, delusional and believing I was the greatest storyteller of all time I could not have scripted this "memorial" because no one would have believed it.

So, facts. Diamond died of complications from COVID. Except her sister Silk, who said she had COVID late last year and asked us to pray for her, insists she didn’t die of it. In her eulogy, Silk all but said her sister died from the vaccine.“I was there. I SAW IT!” she almost screamed. 

What in the Kid Rock back fat, unseasoned chicken, failed science class, rancid donut grease, poodle with three human names is going on here?

Didn’t they both say that COVID was a hoax and they’d never, but never, get the vaccine and encouraged others not to either?

I seem to remember that was a big part of their brand.Did Diamond (RIP) actually get the vaccine then?

And what’s worse: getting the vaccine to protect yourself but telling others not to, or not getting the vaccine, then dying a terrible death from COVID? Is there even a good answer to that question?

So, yes, Silk spread conspiracy theories at her own sister’s memorial.  She said, “Americans are being poisoned.” Well, she’s right about that. Poisoned by exactly the kind of dingleberries she was dropping from her mouth.

And yeah, they did a little fundraising. Like you do at funerals. Grifter’s Grave Crash Grab, doncha know. Never let a thing like a deceased sibling keep you from making that trip to the bank.

But wait, there’s more. And this, my friends, is the cherry on top of the shite sundae.Trump was there.Oh yeah he was. Silk, who loves the man dearly, spoke reverently about the great times they had together.  She also, with true gratitude in her voice, informed us Trump treated her and her sister like family, that he didn’t treat them any differently than he did his own kids. She started to name his children and stumbled, forgetting Ivanka, but she did name Don Jr (I call him Cokeahontas, but that’s just me) and Tiffany and poor old amoeba Eric.

Silk was obviously very grateful to the man who made her famous. And rich.Then Trump got up to speak and said he didn’t know her.

I am not kidding. HE SAID HE DIDN’T KNOW SILK AT ALL.

I  gasped, then laughed so hard I thought I would actually go backward in time. I didn’t clip that video to this post because I know many of my friends never want to hear his voice again. But I did put it in the first comment for those who dare. RIP Diamond. Some might say you got the memorial you deserved, but I do hope you now have the honest peace you didn't help create while you were here.

Well, this golden sequence straight from my camera roll will compose this text.

Because, as I said; it's been a while since I've posted some self-made content in this blog.

What happened in my home country was orchestrated since 2010. Media manipulate, fake news, fake morals, evangelical fundamentalism, etc.

In 2013, my country was going through some protests over the bus taxes. Far right movements and the elite appropriate the protests to spread neofacist ideologies. In 2017, they launched Jair Bolsonaro as their "Savior" and presidential candidate. Historically, here in Brazil, figures like him appear once and a while to configure and maintain privileges to the riches and millionares here. And keep minorities under oppression and poverty.

So, the year 2018 arrived. For me, personally was one of the toughest years of my life, by the way, the year that change me completely.

I was on my first graduation at college. Tech kid. I was studying fashion design, and in fashion you have to study human behavior, society, history of fashion/arts/design, comprehend the past to project the future.

This is why many fashion designers are leftists.

I remember the worry I felt back in the day, mainly after hearing from a pastor – white dude – that the time of k1ll leftists, black people, indigenous people, lgbtqia+ people has arrived, in that moment they would have a motive to play the victims. In that moment, they would do anything to protect the families and the country. Sorta absurd was said at a black person's house - an 80 years old man, also pastor, right after a sunday service.

At that moment I knew that what was coming would be devastating, disgusting and hard to deal with.

It was four long years. FOUR LONG YEARS. Today, I felt relief. Some kind of happiness I didn't felt for a while. Today, we got democracy, love, respect and empathy showed through voting. Happily, Luis Inacio Lula da Silva is on his 3rd mandatory at my country.

To finish up about Jair Bolsonaro, this elder man normalized some things that ain't supposed to exist in 21st century, mainly here in Brazil. Neofascist ideology, racism, homophobia, p3dophilia, indigenous genocide, ambiental crimes.

This elder man LAUGH at people dying during COVID-19 pandemic. He laugh at people that couldn't breathe. He rather praise guns than buy vaccines to Brazilian people, killing over 700.000 people. He even persecuted a 11 year old child that was abused and sadly had to go through and abortion to save her life. Y'all know how serious and disturbing was this?

This year, I voted for the ones I almost lost, for the ones that gone, the ones struggling in the poor neighborhoods, for freedom, for not fearing anymore, for respect the roots of my family. And also, for me back in 2018, where I was surrounded by hate, feeling alone on that town and with my relatives support I could finally move out and build another life that worth living.

And importantly, I voted against neofacism in Brazil.

#YearofRabbit California Policy Dream List for Working Families

One year ago, I joined the Working Families Party to expand its organizing to the largest state in the nation- California.  Tasked with the goal of activating an electorate which overwhelmingly voted for Bernie Sanders for President in 2020 and identifying and winning candidates who actually represent the working families of California, we got to work.

California Working Families Party endorsed 59 candidates in the 2022 election cycle and hosted more than 300 events– doorknocking, phonebanks, text banks and virtual townhalls to support them.  In a promising story of California’s future, 56 of our WFP endorsed candidates identify as people of color and the majority are women.

In our inaugural year, eight California Working Families Squad Legislators, committed to fight for tenant protections, climate justice and fair wages won, expanding our corporate free squad in Sacramento from two to eight.  While Democrats dominate California, too many legislators have sided with big money, choosing Big Oil or Big Pharma over the health of our communities. In fact, Big Oil (more on this later), is the biggest political spender in California funding 78 out 120 state legislators.

Six Working Families mayoral candidates won,  Karen Bass for Los Angeles Mayor, Paloma Aguirre for Imperial Beach Mayor,  Ulises Cabrera for Moreno Valley Mayor, Eduardo Martinez for Richmond City Mayor, and Rex Richardson for Long Beach City Mayor and Sheng Thao for Oakland Mayor. California WFP also backed progressive champions for Board of Supervisors, City Council and Board of Education races to impact local communities and build a pipeline of candidates for higher office.  This is a promising bench in California where three out of four eligible voters under 30 is a person of color. 

California Policy Dream List 2023-2024

“Liberals want to do nice things. And progressives understand that you have to take on powerful special interests to make it happen.” U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders

Winning office is not our goal. Winning a Working Families policy agenda which lifts all working Californians is our goal.  As we enter #YearofRabbit, a zodiac animal known for steadily moving towards their goal, here’s my California Policy Dream List- winnable, fundable + impactful.

1. Grow our California Squad to 20 by 2026, ensuring corporate free, Working Families champions make up ⅙ of our California legislature.  

While this may seem small, a group of 20 courageous and energetic leaders can move an agenda while activating and organizing our base.  They can shine a light on the corporate backed legislative agenda and introduce a peoples first policy agenda to positively impact the lives of everyday Californians.

2. Medicare for *ALL* Kids

At least 4M children across our nation lack access to health care today. While our ultimate goal is Medicare for ALL, starting with children is a good start. Imagine a world where all newborn babies, rich and poor, go home with a name, birth certificate and health insurance.

Providing children with health care is relatively cheap. The average child's medical needs, including vaccines and checkups, are routine, low-cost and preventative. Children make up a quarter of the U.S. population, but generate less than 12% of total health care spending and children would improve Medicare’s financial profile by lowering average costs.

Guaranteeing coverage for all kids would benefit all families– low-income and working-class families would be enrolled automatically without paperwork or expensive outreach and education programs in multiple languages. Medicaid is currently the third-largest anti-poverty program, responsible for raising 2 to 3M people out of poverty— reducing medical debt and bankruptcies. Medicare for Kids is also a subsidy to middle-class families who currently spend money on co-pays for visits and medication and sometimes significant or unaffordable deductibles. In fact, private health care does not guarantee access to care when out of pocket costs effectively eliminate access.  In addition, all children will get continuous, uninterrupted care with a familiar doctor instead of getting yanked in and out of coverage due to parent’s change of employment, job loss or change in income.  

Finally, we will raise a generation of voters who will not view Medicare as a socialist fantasy or nightmare but a generation which will have normalized a single payer healthcare system.

Oh, it’s also popular. According to a 2019 poll by Data for Progress poll, 80% of registered Democrats support Medicare for Kids.

3. Take on Big Oil

Big Oil is the biggest political spender in California, yet most voters in our blue state are unaware of the power the industry holds in Sacramento.  78 out of 120 California legislators, Republicans and Democrats, accepted oil money.  California is the 7th largest oil producing state and continues to approve fracking permits as wildfires and smoke choke our communities. Worse, over 7M Californians live within one mile of an active oil well, putting them at greater risk of asthma, cancer and early births.

After a decade of organizing, this past September, the California legislature finally passed a bill (SB 1137) to ban NEW oil drilling within 3200 feet of homes, schools and playgrounds and within days, Big Oil announced they were gathering signatures to repeal this bill. Other billionaire corporations also unhappy with policies to support workers, gathered signatures to overturn AB 257, a first in nation bill to establish sectoral bargaining for fast food workers. Both have qualified for the November 2024 ballot.  

We can defeat those pro-corporate ballot initiatives and go on offense. Finally tired of $8/gallon headlines, Democrats announced they would introduce a bill to penalize oil price gouging. Financial reports revealed that the five companies producing 97% of all of California’s oil and gas, quadrupled their profits in the first nine months of 2022. California had the highest gouge gap in the nation–billions of dollars went from the pocketbooks of hardworking Californians only to enrich billionaire CEO’s and shareholders. It’s time to fight back.

4. Raise the Minimum Wage: One Job Should Be Enough

The Fight for 15 had real, measurable impacts on workers' pay.  This January, California’s minimum wage rose to $15.50 and an estimated 5.6M Californians will earn at least $20B more, an amount larger than all of California’s major public assistance programs combined.

Yet, we have still not kept up with the living wage needed across California.  There is not a single county where a minimum wage worker can afford to rent a two bedroom apartment for themselves and their family. New York and Rhode Island introduced $21/hour and Idaho and Massachusetts introduced $20/hour. California can and should continue to lead this fight for minimum wage workers, the vast majority of whom are women.

And we should raise the minimum wage for all workers including incarcerated inmates who currently make pennies on the hour for jobs which include fighting California’s wildfires.

5. Tax Extreme Wealth

During the pandemic, billionaires grew $2 trillion while millions of Americans filed for unemployment or risked their lives as essential workers.  44% of that wealth grew in California alone.  California has the most billionaires and the highest poverty rate in the nation. This is a policy failure.  

In month, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, New York and Washington all introduced a Wealth Tax on the extreme rich.  The California Wealth Tax is modeled on US Senator Elizabeth Warren's, specifically targeting extreme wealth over $50M and $1B. If passed, it would generate $22.3B/year for California.  California has one of the most progressive income tax rates in the country, effectively taxing for example, a rich doctor who primarily earns their money through income.  However, the wealthiest Californians report very little income– avoiding taxes on the vast majority of their wealth. We should remedy this inequity and tax all wealth.

5. Free Bus Pilots 

It is exciting to see cities such as Washington DC and Boston pilot fare free bus programs while New York legislators consider similar proposals.  Free bus programs make public transportation more accessible, encourage people to ride instead of drive, reduce congestion and pollution, and disproportionately benefit low-income individuals and families (again without the hassle of paperwork, expensive outreach programs and bureaucratic income verification). Imagine cities which provide free buses for residents and visitors to ride to work, school and play!

California is changing

Over the next decade, we are going to see the continued growth and power of California voters currently under 45. And they are disproportionately people of color and immigrants.

California is ready to lead a working families agenda for the nation.  There is a growing base of multiracial, cross-class voters that want to tackle widening wealth inequality, the untenable affordability crisis, and wildfires turning our communities to ash. Our challenge is to organize that base of voters into a movement that can make this wish list a reality and deliver for the people.

Yeah, so being a teacher we have to plan our vaccinations around school holidays. I let mine get out of hand and now need 3. One was for HepB. But I have had HepB. Growing up, we had a student bring in a fruit salad for a cultural food exchange I and 6 other kids got HepB. My parents, being poor and in the US, did not take me into the hospital until I had not eaten in 8 days, pooped a powdery black substance, and started to turn yellow. I spent weeks in the hospital, one young man whose parents waited even longer to get help nearly died. So today, I walk in with a very serious question; did already having the illness mean I would have any special reaction to the shot. No one could answer this question. My GP, no idea. The injection clinic nurse, no clue. So everyone is calling everyone else trying to figure this out. Opinions ranged from I did not need the vaccine to the idea it might cause liver damage. So an hour later they get a consult with one of the top medical schools in the world. That doctor there asks a few questions about alcohol consumption and diet. Then he asks where I was exposed, I told him the school and year. He said he studied the outbreak in med school for a project and wanted me to sign a release so he could look at my medical records. Evidently he and his peers speculated that I and the last case to come in would have very specific medical issues due to our delay of care, he wanted to look at my records and perhaps write a paper on it. I said, okay but wanted reassurance that I would be okay with the vaccine. He said I would be just fine but needed to come in for blood tests in 6 days just to be sure. Then he commented, “If you pulled out of liver failure as advanced as yours was I wouldn’t worry.” Now, I had no idea I ever had liver failure, I was sick sure but not organ failure sick.

So, I went to the grand high bitch of my family, great uncle Jerry. This man is a diva, a legend, and keeper of all family skeletons. He tells me on my drive home that not only was I in liver failure by the time my family took me in, I had lost 40% of my total body weight. Now I was 7, my memory of this time has always been hazy. What I thought was eight days was three weeks of not eating more than a bit of apple sauce a day, running a fever so high they kept me in the bath tub, throwing up a variety of colors, drinking only water, and him finally calling 911 when he came over and saw the condition I was in. Evidently, my parents at first did not want the expense of a doctor bill, later I was in such bad shape they were afraid of prison. When I was rushed to the hospital a Child Protective Services officer came in to speak with them. My step father went home, packed his things and was never heard of again. Immediately after I was discharged, my mother packed I and my brother up and took us to another state to try and avoid prosecution.
