#I guess it's just... a slightly alternate version of that scene XD

Oscar: It’s not about forgiveness. It’s about the chance to move forward and change. I’d like to give her that chance.
Jaune: I think she’s run out of chances.
Yang: You weren’t there. You didn’t have to watch them die because of her.
Oscar: Yes, I did. I’ve seen what she can do. The scale of her powers have been used to aid Salem in mass casualties and widespread destruction. Imagine if she chose to dedicate herself to good.
Emerald: I’m not dedicating myself to anything. I just want to get out of here.
Ren: We all do. That’s why we need your help.
Oscar: It’s your choice to make, Emerald. But we could really use someone like you on our side.

Fic Writer Questions
I was tagged by @neonponders, thank you so much, love! 🔅🔅🔅💓💓
How many works do you have on AO3?
I have a few accounts? xD I’ve got 23 in the one I’m using now, but it's all very tiny.
What’s your total AO3 wordcount?
54,159
How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
mmmm…
Game of Thrones
Supernatural
Teen Wolf
Harry potter
Pacific rim
Stranger Things
And a few minor fandoms
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
‘That’s how you close an open wound’ | ‘Kinda wanna make us happen’ | ‘It burns in my tongue’ | ‘The Buckley-Hargrove dilemma’ | ‘Forget the paths written in the palm of your hand’
Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
I always, always try to. Sometimes It might take me a little while to get to things but I try to never forget to answer. I honestly appreciate the effort it takes to leave a comment or a note or tags in a reblog, and I also try to always answer to those. I think it’s important to show to that person how much it means to you that they’ve taken the time to reach out. Because it is so important to the writer. So important it can even be determinant for us to keep on writing.
What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Uff. It was a Ned/Robert, for Game of Thrones (more like Asoiaf). And I basically cried the whole time. I still do, when I re-read it. I managed to actually capture something, in that one.
Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve ever written?
Sometimes? I wrote a Supernatural/Lost Boys thing back in the day that’s still 2? 3? Chapters from being finished? Hopefully one day. And I have not as much a crossover as an ‘inspired on’ the Goonies universe Teen Wolf fic where Derek and Stiles go to Stiles’ mom natal town to investigate a polish ghost pirate ship while falling in love. And a tiny harringrove /Men in Black au where Agent S and Agent B end up paired with a demo-puppy.
Wich one's the craziest, I honestly don't know. All of them feel pretty ??? to me! xD
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Yeh, a few times. Basically just bc of writing m|m, of bc my 'awful writing' or for catboy!Steve xD.
Do you write smut? If so what kind?
Yep. I’ve always considered myself more smut writer than anything else. Now I guess I’m a smut writer with pretensions xD. (Truth be told, when I started writing I didn't imagine I would be capable of writing anything more than that). So I wasn’t actyally writing that much smut when I landed on harringrove. I was more focused on the pretensions (aka the gosh pirate ship fic). But harringrove and their chemistry hit me hard, I literally put aside everything else and started writing them like crazy, including lots of smut bc hfahfsafhfhsifhs. Another reason is that it’s hard for me to keep other kinds of stories short, but smut not that much (I get an idea for an slightly emotionally charged scene I like and I suddenly feel the need to write 10k for it minimum). So I focused more on smutty stuff when I jumped into this language, as a way to have something finished on my hands, feel like I was making some kind of progress (BUT ALSO: THE CHEMISTRY).
And I guess my smut comes in diametric opposites, or at least that’s how I perceive it. Plain, straightforward smut, or heavily (in my head, at least) emotional smut. I’M IN LOVE WITH the way we can use touch and slow pace and physical sensations and glances to enhance what we’re saying about emotions in a sexual scene.
Also, and contradictorily, smut is so hard to write sometimes for me! So another good thing is that when I finish one smutty story I suddenly feel like a can write anything! Haha.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Yeh. A few times. Both Sterek oneshots :(.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yess! <3<3<3< To Chinese and Russian and English and I <3<3<3<3<3<3<33<3<3<3<
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Was about two once, with a friend. But sadly both out lives became real busy, so didn’t. To be honest, I don’t think I’ll be cut for it, but I wanted to test it.
What’s your all time favorite ship?
The last ship I land on always feels like my fav to me. But it might be true in this case. Bc yeah, harringrove.
What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
Ufff, too many.
What are your writing strengths?
Uh. Eh. Well. I hopeguess sometimes it sounds good? I can’t control that in eng as much as i do in spa bc I don’t have any real knowledge of the phonology but, well. I try. And that’s one of the aspects I put more thought/work into because I LOVE that.
Sometimes I like my dialogue and sometimes I like my pacing/rhythm. Sometimes I feel like I’ve managed to convey/describe one feeling the way I wanted to.
I dunno. I try to keep my head in a the ‘get the work done’ space not as much as in the ‘is good’. Not easy but, again, try is the key word in here.
I rely a lot in the editing process but I think I’m actually good at that. At least, when I finish, I like the prettified version way more than the ‘raw’ one.
What are your writing weaknesses?
My writing reads the same way my brain works: in a cluttered, messy way. And I don’t like it but. I feel like I can’t change it. Can control it, sometimes. I manage to keep the ‘too much’ at bay but other times it just wins me. I also keep rolling my eyes at how sticky-sweet I can get and despise the way I keep repeating formulas and sentence structures (I feel you @neonponders ) but. Ugh. They just. Happen? Gah.
But! I actually feel more at peace with all that than it might look like xD. ‘Cause the alternatives is not writing and that I cannot do so 🤷‍♂️
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
Ahhh, I LOVE IT! Started doing it with the kegboys, basically to treat myself XD, and I’ve got it in a few wips and also in this dumb thing I wrote. I think it’s fun, and it also adds certain feeling of expansion to the world the characters live in, helps us remember there’s more (people, places, types of lives and ways of communicating and meanings) aside from the ones represented in the scene/wholeness of the story. I’m aware that too much can be confusing and tiring for the reader, but not more than a bit is needed, really. Also, can be used to induce some fun misunderstandings xD.
What was the first fandom you ever wrote for?
Some fantasy book series I was reading at the moment, during my ‘epic fantasy’ phase xD.
What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
Probably one supernatural fic I wrote ages ago. It isn’t particularly well written or anything. But was one of the first longer-ish things I wrote. And I still feel proud about that one. And I always felt so happy writing Theon Greyjoy, so I really love the things I wrote for him. And the ship fic, again, if I ever finish it! Except I feel like I can’t stop writing harringrove.
I’m tagging! @memes-saved-me @edith-moonshadow @disdaidal @dyingontheharringrovehill @wherearetheplums @c0bblenygma @toast-ranger-to-a-stranger @pretty-bratty @ghostofjellyfishforgotten

criminal-minds-fanfiction wrote a bunch of questions for authors that you’re supposed to let people ask you, buuuut I felt like answering all of them instead of doing my actual job this afternoon. 😄 Here we go:
1) How old were you when you first starting writing fanfiction?
Like 25 maybe? I started writing about a year after I started reading it. I had a fanfiction-deprived adolescence, y’all.
2) What fandoms do you write for and do you have a particular favourite if you write for more than one?
The hockey boys pulled me in years ago and they haven’t let me go. I do sometimes write other things: I almost always participate in Yuletide, and I’ve actually written a bunch of Animorphs fic under a different name (ask me if you want to see it!). Mostly hockey RPF, though.
3) Do you prefer writing OC’s or reader inserts? Explain your answer.
Haha neither. Well, I guess OC’s, if I had to choose -- I don’t read or write reader inserts. But I tend to keep OC’s for original fiction.
4) What is your favourite genre to write for?
I was very confused about fic having genres before I realized this was probably referring to the genre of the canon works. Um...sports. :D
5) If you had to choose a favourite out of all of your multi chaptered stories, which would it be and why?
Don’t make me choose my favorite child. Um, probably the first wolfverse story -- I don’t know if it’s the best one, but I’m very grateful to it for starting the ‘verse!
6) If you had to delete one of your stories and never speak of it again, which would it be and why?
None of them, if that’s an option. If I really had to choose...probably the Kirk/Spock fic I never finished even after uploading it to AO3 and promising to finish it this time. I still want to finish it!! But it would be the first to go.
7) When is your preferred time to write?
I don’t have a strong preference. Afternoon/evening. I like having multi-hour blocks, and I use the Forest app to keep me off my phone while I do it.
8) Where do you take your inspiration from?
Plot bunnies come from all over the place: random thoughts, memes, real-life conversations, suggestions from other fandom people. I tend to have a pretty strong “THIS IS A STORY I WANT TO WRITE” response when something grabs me the right way.
9) In your xxx fic, what’s your favourite scene that you wrote?
Haha this is probably why I’m not supposed to just answer all of these in order. XD I’ll answer for my current WIP: the scene where Geno kisses Sid for the first time. So soft. So angsty. 😈 (My own story has cursed me to love Geno. I am doomed.)
10) In your xxx fic, why did you decide to end it like that? Did you have an alternative ending in mind?
In general: I know how my stories are going to end when they start. Sometimes it does evolve a bit as I write. One thing I’d like to play with is including more of the main characters being together at the end of the story, instead of ending it at the moment when they get together; the latter makes sense from a tension perspective, but I’ve been finding when I read lately that I want more of the happy times at the end, so I’m going to try to move in that direction.
11) Have you ever amended a story due to criticisms you’ve received after posting it?
Only for typos, I think.
12) Who is your favourite character to write for? Why?
Ooooh. Either Patrick Kane or Jonathan Toews. There’s something so compelling to me about Patrick’s fanon voice. And every love interest in every original story I try to write is Jonny.
13) Who is your least favourite character to write for? Why?
I...don’t really write about characters I don’t like? I wish Auston Matthews would shave his mustache.
14) How did you come up with the title for the xxx? - You can ask about multiple stories.
About fifty percent of the titles I come up with are desperate scrambles because I’ve got nothing. The other fifty percent I have a perfect song lyric for from the start.
15) If you write OC’s, how do you decide on their names?
I only write OC’s in original fiction, but: I’ve been phonebanking lately, and I’ve been writing down all the good names I come across. The best so far is someone with the last name Quackenboss.
16) How did you come up with the idea for xxx?
MAGIC.
17) Post a line from a WIP that you’re working on.
Oh...oh no. Um.
“It doesn’t matter what he was thinking about. His knot popped; that’s the important thing.”
Some of you can probably guess what that’s about. :)
18) Do you have any abandoned WIP’s? What made you abandon them?
Mostly on my computer. I have a lot of beginnings of stories I haven’t finished yet; many of them I’ll probably go back to. I tend not to post things until I’m done or close to done with them. (That one Star Trek fic being an exception. Mea culpa.)
19) Are there any stories that you’ve written that you’d really love to do a sequel to?
YES. The 1988 timer one and the 1988 story where Patrick’s a girl who sneaks onto the Blackhawks in disguise. I’d love to do a Bennguin version of both of those.
20) Are there any stories that you wished you’d ended differently?
Hm. Some of them I think I rushed a little. More Than I Could Ever Promise, I think it needs a good old-fashioned battle scene in the mountains at the end to really round out the plot.
21) Tell me about another writer(s) who you admire? What is it about them that you admire?
Have I mentioned astolat? What, only two or three hundred times? I should mention her again, then. Give me that woman’s ability to plot. Inject it into my veins.
22) Do you have a story that you look back on and cringe when you reread it?
Haha. I often have slightly cringy moments in my old stories. You Made My Life an Adventure, I definitely didn’t really know what I was doing yet...
23) Do you prefer listening to music when you’re writing or do you need silence?
I usually listen to music.
24) How do you feel about writing smutty scenes?
Turned on.
25) Have you ever cried whilst writing a story?
Yes. The sequel to My Heart Forgets to Beat.
26) Which part of your xxx fic was the hardest to write?
The Sid/Geno wolfverse story I’m working on now is maybe the hardest thing I’ve ever written. The language barrier is such a new challenge for me.
27) Do you make a general outline for your stories or do you just go with the flow?
I don’t formally outline, but I tend to have a sense of the major plot beats. One reason I love writing fic is that the plot and world tend to be straightforward enough for that. I have a lot more trouble doing that with original fiction.
28) What is something you wished you’d known before you started posting fanfiction?
This will radically reduce the amount of time I spend writing original fiction.
29) Do you have a story that you feel doesn’t get as much love as you’d like?
Like You Have a Secret I think is less read than some of the others because it’s het, but I really love it. Similarly, some of my stories that are inspired by other works (Tangled, Doctor Who, The Giver) tend to be read less because people think they need to know the source material, when really I deviate from the source material so much it’s not important.
30) In contrast to 29 is there a story which gets lots of love which you kinda eye roll at?
Huh. Probably not. I’m definitely surprised when some stories take off -- Kinda Narrows It Down I wrote pretty quickly, on a whim, and I was surprised by the extent to which it resonated with people. Turns out lots of people think Tyler was coming out in that tweet. XD
31) Send me a fic recommendation and I’ll post it for my followers to see! (The asker is to send the rec not the answerer)
Ooh. Ignoring the terms of this question, but: I just read this TK/Patty story and loooved it. It’s a different take on werewolves than the one I use in wolfverse, and it’s super compelling:
https://archiveofourown.org/works/24029188
32) Are any of your characters based on real people?
Hahahahahaha. (I mean...less so than you might think.)
33) What’s the biggest compliment you’ve gotten?
I absolutely love it when people write screaming flaily responses to my fic. Also anytime anyone says that they’ve been having a tough time and my story was exactly what they needed. Maybe my favorite was the responses to More Than I Could Ever Promise that told me it read like a novel; that meant a lot to me right then.
34) What’s the harshest criticism you’ve gotten?
Fandom is amazing; people almost never give me concrit. I did have someone ask once if I randomly chose when to stop writing and just ended my stories there. I was pretty offended, since of course that’s not true at all, but I can see where they were coming from: my stories tend to wrap up after the characters get together, and sometimes there’s a lot of potential story left to tell at that point. But stories have to end sometime.
35) Do you share your story ideas with anyone else or do you keep them close to your chest?
I tend to share them! I find other people’s enthusiasm to be strongly motivating, and sometimes people have awesome suggestions I wouldn’t have thought of.
36) Can you give us a spoiler for one of your WIP’s?
Well, I only have the one. XD Sid...is about to have an important conversation with Mario.
37) What’s the funniest story you’ve written?
Ooh, I’m not sure I’m the write person to answer! No idea, really. My recent TK/Patty is probably pretty funny. Or maybe Quality Time, where Patrick doesn’t understand why he keeps losing track of time when he’s cuddling with Jonny. Anything with a super dumb protagonist, probably.
38) If you could collab with any other writer on here, who would it be? (Perhaps this question will inspire some collabs!) If you’re shy, don’t tag the blog, just name it.
Wow, I have no idea. I’ve never really written a story with someone, so I’m not sure how that would work. I want to say astolat again but honestly I’d be too intimidated.
...no, I’m gonna say astolat. Even if I made a fool of myself I think I would learn a ton.
39) Do you prefer first, second or third person?
Third. For some original stuff I like first person, but third feels right for the hockey boys.
40) Do people know you write fanfiction?
My close friends do. Most of my friends have the vague idea I write fic, but they don’t know my username or anything.
41) What’s you favourite minor character you’ve written?
Patrick Sharp. No question.
42) Song fic - What made you decide to use the song xxx for xxx.
I will legit listen to a new album with a doc open to write down promising lyrics. Titles are HARD, y’all.
43) Has anyone ever guessed the plot twist of one of your fics before you posted it?
I think people guessed where the Tangled fic was going. Though I also liked the guesses that it would be about Patrick’s mullet. XD I don’t really mind when people guess twists -- in the kind of story I write, it’s more about the experience of reading it than about surprise!
44) What is the last line you wrote?
“His parents have always been very respectful of any choices Sid’s wanted to make. They haven’t pried into his private life when he’s tried to set boundaries. But they’re wolves, and they know him a lot better than Jordy does. Sid isn’t going to be able to keep it a secret from them what he’s going through.”
...no guarantee it survives in that form. :D
45) What spurs you on during the writing process?
Getting the story out of my head and into reality! Spoon out that lake, baby.
I also do love the prospect of posting it for people to enjoy and respond to. It’s one of the reasons I find fic so much more rewarding than original fiction, where the timeline to a readership is so much longer.
46) I really loved your xxx fic. If you were ever to do a sequel, what do you think might happen in it?
Things, probably.
47) Here’s a fic title - insert a made up title. What would this story be about?
This exercise might be going off the rails a bit. (If anyone does want to pose this to me, feel free!)
48) What’s your favourite trope to write?
Ooh. Mutual pining. Friends to lovers. Werewolves. :D
49) Can you remember the first fic you read? What was it about?
The first fic I ever, ever read was a random Kirk/Spock one I found through google, and I was like “OMG IS THIS WHAT AROUSAL FEELS LIKE”
50) If you could write only angst, fluff or smut for the rest of your writing life, which would it be and why?
Oh man. Angst, as long as it can have a happy ending. But it just wouldn’t be the same without the smut.

Homestuck^2 - Reactions Chapter 2 “Clown Logistics” (Pages 57 - 95)
Time for the "Clown Logistics"!
...There's nothing I can think of but a hypothetical department within Jane's ship. So, a chapter from Jane's perspective is my only theory right now!
I mean, seeing as Gamzee’s (presumably) dead I assume this won’t be a direct focus on him.
If we do focus on Jane now, it's interesting how the B2 Kids are getting the majority of the focus so far in Homestuck^2.
And Roxy, who had, especially in the later parts of Homestuck, the majority of screentime has so far not appeared yet.
Very, very interesting indeed.
Anyway, let's read on.
Page 57:
NOPE, SOMETHING ELSE ENTIRELY. But still related to fucking Gamzee of course.
WE'VE GOT OFFICIAL ART FOR VRISKA MARYAM-LALONDE NOW :O
Oh man.
I'd been forming some mental images on what Vriska Maryam-Lalonde and Tavros Crocker would look like. But to be honest, my creativity wasn't that good so I'd been mostly imagining a near exact copy of Vriska, and a humanized version of Tavros. :P
Meanwhile, for Harry Anderson I'm imagining something like John/Jake with a hair style more like Roxy.
But no, just look at her!!!
She's like a gothic Vriska! Oh man, makes complete sense, considering how Rose and Kanaya like to dress themselves. I can't believe I hadn't thought of that actually.
And it's minutes in the past, which explains why she's not with Tavros currently.
Maybe that means we'll see him too in a little bit? :O
Anyway, Vriska Serket's looking surprisingly okay, considering how earlier she was seemingly bleeding to death, based on the narration. :P
Pffff, Vriska's being classic Vriska already. Stealing stuff and giving herself advantages at the cost of others.
Though to be honest, John's probably not missing that phone right now.
Page 58:
Yikes, yeah, Gamzee sure got a rough beating there.
I like that they decided to depict the scars from Nepeta's claws here!
Oh boy, does this mean Vriska Serket's going to stop being (Vriska)? Indication she's gonna become relevant again? :P
Then what is she going to call Vriska Maryam-Lalonde? Is this going to be based on a suggestion from the readers?
Is it going to be anything like her real name? Or is it going to be a different spider-related name?
...I'll laugh if she decides to name her Aranea. xD
Page 59:
Vrissy! :O
I like the sound of it! It sounds enough like Vriska, and is also 6 letters. And it rolls well enough of the tongue.
Anyway, oh god, Vrissy's gonna call upon Tavros Crocker isn't she? :/
To involve him in this criminal matter... yeah, sounds like something a kismesis might do. :P
I wonder if Tavros is gonna get a nickname. Perhaps not, seeing as there isn't a second Tavros around right now (unless Gcatavrosprite finally shows up again).
Also, since when does Vriska have an eyepatch? I mean, I knew Karkat has an eyepatch now, but I had no idea Vriska also had one.
I like how she drew an 8 on it to make it resemble an 8-ball though.
Page 60:
Ahahaha, Vrissy's immediately sold on the new nickname.
Is she gonna insist that everyone uses that name from now on? Including her parents?
I wonder what kind of car Tavros will be coming with. Will it look like Dad's car?
Oh boy, what is Vriska's reaction going to be to the existence of a Tavros here. xD
Let's hope she doesn't tear into Tavros like he's... ahum, Tavros.
Page 61:
Hehe, perfection! Slightly calmer than I'd have expected her to be, but still.
And uh, is Tavros really gonna get a kick out of this? I mean, he didn't like Gamzee very much of course, but I'd think he'd be a bit too much of a nice person to really uh, enjoy this?
God I'm so curious to see what he'll look like...
Page 62:
There he is already!
A hovercar! Can't say I was expecting that, hehe.
Page 63:
There he is!!!!! :D
Oh man, he looks like a perfect mix between Jane and Jake. Jane's glasses, Jake's hair and bowtie. And the buck teeth of course! :B
It's so cool to finally see what Vrissy and Tavros look like. After all this time that we only had dialog and no images, hehe.
Page 64:
Ahahahaha, mood whiplash! Yup, that's truly an Egbert/English/Nitram reborn. xD
That's exactly how I imagined him reacting to this.
Page 65:
Ha, alright. He really doesn't mind Gamzee's dead.
Page 66:
N'awww. It's pretty heartwarming that the badass Serkets allow Tavros to have this little emotional moment instead of ripping into him.
Page 69:
Hehe, return of the Scribble Mode-like art style!
Oh boy, Tavros is removing his sweater. I wonder what he looks like underneath that! Is there gonna be any symbol popping up here? :P
Page 70:
Ooooh, suspenders! Instantly makes me think of Caliborn and Doc Scratch... errr, not really the best people to be thinking of here I guess. xD
I wonder if this is truly the last we'll see of Gamzee.
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he's somehow only "almost" dead and will suddenly start honking again from within the trunk.
Page 71:
HOLY SHIT HARRY ANDERSON EGBERT OUT OF NOWHERE
Wow... man, for a second I didn't realize it was him! To be honest, I first thought it was a girl.
But then I noticed the hair style, the eyes... that's so Roxy-like. Combined with the buck teeth and the blue scarf, that sold it. Just like how Roxy likes to wear scarfs.
Oh man, I love the designs of these characters.
Page 72:
OH DEAR GOD, HE'S A TOTAL COOLKID.
OH MAN
He talks so much like Roxy, I love it.
Pfffahahaha, he doesn't believe a WORD Vrissy is saying. His face is going to be PRICELESS when he sees that she's telling the truth.
Page 75:
Ahahaha, yes, Harry Anderson doesn't believe it at all.
...So that's what Alternian schools were like then. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. xD
I'm starting to think that perhaps they're just gonna bring Gamzee's body to the rebel camp, and that this way the news somehow reaches Jane that Tavros is with the rebels. Just not in the way she's thinking. :P
Oh boy, I hope that if they do go there they meet Karkat and Meenah. I want to see Vriska's face when she meets this badass leader Karkat.
And god I'm dying to find out what he looks like now.
Page 76:
Hehehe, I didn't immediately notice the spades in Vrissy's eyes.
Also, that sounds totally like a Jakey thing to say: "Righto".
It IS starting to look like abundantChewtoys pointed out to me that their relationship is relatively calm, despite being kismesises. Maybe it's somewhat like between John and Terezi!
Page 79:
A honk? Tavros heard a honk?
Oh man... is it really gonna turn out there's still a little bit of life left in him?
But yeah... there's no way this is gonna end well. SOMEONE's going to spot them carrying a body, right?
On the other hand, Vriska's always got irons in the fire, maybe now she's gonna get a clown in the fire. :B
Page 80:
Ahahaha, that's gonna make some noise and draw attention, isn't it?
Page 81:
Pffff, these guys. I love this little group of dorks.
Page 83:
Oh god, they better watch out for that smoke detector or whatever it is, or that's gonna set off a REAL alarm now.
Pages 84 - 85:
YUP, called it that they were going to bump into that.
I didn't think it was a sprinkler though, but close enough. :P
So what are they going to do now? Drop the body and run for cover?
If people find Gamzee, that's definitely going to hit the headlines though.
Page 86:
Ahahahaha, return of the Bluh! God it's been so long.
Yeah... they're busted. What are they gonna do now? Are Vriska and Vrissy going to pretend that Tavros is their hostage or something?
...I just realized we're nearing page 88, hahahaha.
Oh man, I just love Vriska in this chapter. These are just so much more sillier events than we're normally used to seeing her in. xD
Page 87:
Oh man, I didn't think we'd see actual dialog for these people!
It's interesting how they all have FIVE letters in their name. Not 4 like the human kids, nor 6 like the Troll kids, but 5.
I love how they talk like teenagers on social media.
Page 89:
Oooooh, I like how their eyes light up in the dark!
Pfff, yup, Vriska's really enjoying herself out here. Looks like she won't mind THAT much that she can't go back to the action in the Furthest Ring. :P
Also, uh, I don't think they'll just be able to get away when school's out. I bet they're probably going to call the police or something?
Page 90:
Ahahaha, so THAT'S why Jane thought the rebels had captured Tavros. She just refuses to accept the alternative.
That's really just her problem. It's always been.
She can just be SO convinced that she's right about something, she just won't believe she's wrong. Until she sees it with her own eyes.
Maybe that's going to be the best solution to all these problems she has been causing? That all the negative things get SMACKED into her face so she finally realizes what she's been doing wrong?
Page 91:
HOLY SHIT. NOW THIS TRULY IS THE HOMESTUCK AGAIN OF ALL THOSE YEARS AGO.
Linking back to scenes/conversations that happened earlier, hahahaha!
Page 92:
Just look at this smooth bastard. xD
Looks like the face of someone who still believes he's being pranked. Does he think Vrissy set off the fire alarm on purpose, just to get him out of class?
Page 93:
Oh boy, he's looking at his phone. Is he gonna see the same image as Jane on social media now?
Pages 94 - 95:
PERFECTION. THAT FACE. I LOVE IT. THAT'S ALL THERE IS TO SAY ON THE MATTER. XD
His last face reminds me a bit of Pickle Inspector.
Perfect end to a hilarious chapter!
God I love Homestuck^2.

AU Disney # 5 Heroines: How your cutie asks you out
Before I go, yes I am going to attempt to make this open to anyone, but this creator wants more LGBTQ+ AUs, so this one just if you and x character went and the character’s thoughts. Please share your thoughts if this good or not in my ask box? :D Here are the rules too. I am not going to use gifs every time, but this felt fitting.
P.s. Like mentioned are the 1st AU and 2nd, 3rd, and 4th I can not promise all featured like in the first one, but I try to list the ones that are fan favorites and please feel free to give kindly-worded feedback. Lastly, I do edits with (non)Disney hand-drawn characters, so feel free to request. :D
P.p.s. Compared to my other Alternative Universe, these can be shorter, yet I do like to write Disney AUs slightly more, but I am sorry for shorter. I am also so tired and I am sorry if unclear. I attempted to make kinda like movies, yet mostly creative ideas. I also feel this my weakest Disney AU. XD
Snow White (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs):
Snow White asked her friends to help her, so you got a hint. Doc asked if you liked the outdoors or indoors. Happy asked what makes you happiest of Snow White, especially in her cooking. Grumpy asked what foods you do not like. Sleepy asks if what kind of blanket you likes. Sneezy asked if you were allergic to flowers. Bashful asked what colors you like or thought looked flattering on Snow White. Even Dopey helped, he led you to a little part of the forest and you found Snow White with a basket of food you liked, with a blanket you, pretty flowers, and a dress that she looked beautiful in. On top of that, she squeaked when she saw you “I hope that my little clues were not too much, I wanted to ask you out, but I was shy” and her pale face turned pink when you said yes.
Cinderella (Cinderella):
When one day just goofing together and dancing, you leave the house, only you realized you left your jacket in her house. When coming back you caught her humming and rubbing her dog’s stomach and it warmed your heart in hearing all these kind things. Even “I want to ask Y/N out, yet I am probably just a friend in their eyes” and you sneaked up and hugged her from the back and she gave a mini yelp. Both you laugh and she then realized you overheard her and she went quiet. Only she gave your jacket with a hole patched up and she grinned. “I did not want you to risk getting cold or something”.
“Cinderella, Ella, we both know I heard you, and I be happy to have you as my significant other” and she smiled so widely and hugged you.
Aurora (Sleeping Beauty):
She did ask you out yet after a clutter fest of aunts getting too involved with a cute date night and her parents did little to limit the magic of the imaginative minds of her aunts. Even got Aurora three different outfits, a long-sleeved off-shoulder pink blouse or a cute blue top (a size up was accidental). She ended up wearing a shirt and make the blue top on top of the blouse. Also, she just wanted a nice day out in the garden and funny enough you planned to ask her out, yet seeing so much happened, yet did not want stress her out. It was a happy surprise when she asked out.
Jessica Rabbit (Who Framed Roger Rabbit):
Jessica was busy preparing for her next performance night. After helping her practice and just general support with being there for her. Of course, spending more time together and just general hangouts, you two grew closer. When her big night finally happened she tended looked at you, sure she was quick to look at others, yet go back to you. By the end she went up to you and asked “I own you so much, so what about a meal on me and I can pick you up” and she smirked at you blushing. “So is that a yes” and you mouthed ‘yup’ and she kissed your forehead.
Ariel (The Little Mermaid):
Ariel asked when you are free and thought of going to a fun aquarium. Only, she was so silent, you at first thought was a hangout, but after nervous breathing steamed up the glass, and write ‘I like you’ and you understandably felt uncomfortable. However her tongue-tied has been always an impact in her life, like asking to order food, she points to the picture. Not she is shy, yet Ariel is so excitable. However back on topic eventually you look at her and smile.
“Ariel, I like you too” and she smiles widely and the hall of the aquarium played some music, which she danced with you.
Belle (Beauty and the Beast):
You one day after work met her up in a library and after helping with books clicked. Sure you two only liked you as friends, yet once you felt comfortable and started to open up to her, she was starting to be attracted to you, as you in return. So another day after meeting up she wanted to list her and your favorite romantic scenes in what you both read. She took mental notes and asked “so if I made this scene come to life, will you be *Character A* to my *Character B* ” and you jokingly replied;
“Sounds like a date”.
Jasmine (Aladdin):
You asked her to a dance night at a local event and even though barely knew each other, she happily agreed. When taking a break from the dance, she and you played truth or dare version of “spin the bottle”. So whoever spinned it asked the person the bottle landed. She spun and asked you truth or dare.
“Truth” you spoke nervously.
“Was this a date or a friend hangout?” and you mumbled.
“I am happy for either or both”. Jasmine smirked and replied.
“Why not a date then?”
(this loosely inspired by how my first significant other and I started dated in high school at a school dance)
Pocahontas (Pocahontas):
After both of your friends gushing over how cute you two are, Pocahontas eventually caved in and asked you out. She felt bad for her father thought for sure she liked a childhood friend of hers, although he did like you and how kind you were to her and everyone. So one day when on a walk with your dogs she asked;
“Y/N I would be more romantic about it, yet my heart too blunt, would you go out with me this upcoming night show”? Even though you stood in shock, yet you understood she may have felt she lost the genuine comfort to ask you out, but glad she still asked you out and you agreed.
(inspired by a couple friends who got the extra push to date for everyone thought they were so cute and a good match)
Esmeralda (The Hunchback of Notre Dame):
Esmeralda was helping hanging out one day after helping her friends, so nothing too special. Just after a watching movie and she offered to read your palm or tarot cards. You took the tarot cards and when reading she “did a new reading” and her new six cards. After asking what you hope for in the world of romance and more, she flipped a card slowly. Eventually spelled out “will you go out with me” and you blushed but said yes.
Megara (Hercules):
Meg was hoping you make the first move for she felt it be cliche if she did something. Only after a while, she grew more and more antsy, so when alone after a performance, she joked how gross the couple in the show was. Hinted how much she likes what you and her act. Eventually, she became sincere in how much she appreciated you. In the end she huffed “I guess I am just saying, I am asking you out”. You grabbed her hand and smiled.
Mulan (Mulan):
Even though you been friends for a couple years, she formed happy daydreams of what it be like to date you. So she asked you to meet up alone one day and when you did she gave you a poem. It was simple, yet it was a cute flattering poem and ended “will you go out with me” and you agreed. Of course, right away all your friends found out and her friends too, and they were happy.
Jane Porter (Tarzan):
Jane always liked to invite you to art events if both could go and afford. One day was extra special and she needed a plus one for this rare event, her dad helped fond. She attempted to be causal, yet her shy smile and blushing gave away.
“Y/N, you mean so much to me, like supporting my passions, and wanted to ask you want to be a plus one?”
“So a date?” you grinned.
“Yes, I mean err, yes” and she and you laugh.
Kida (Atlantis: The Lost Empire):
Kida too forward so when she started to like you, she asked her friends for advice. Her dad eventually got word and told you the next time he warmed up to you. Sure, it made me uncomfortable, but you understand different customs can be why he can act differently. After bonding more and finding more to enjoy together, you felt close. Kida was unsure how to ask out, yet just simply asked you if she could kiss you and you knew her culture kissing and any form of affection like a hug was huge step. Additionally, Kida being demisexual added this level of how it felt to be asked. You checked in and Kida said yes, and you two started dating.
(I headcanon Kida as demisexual)
Audrey (Atlantis: The Lost Empire):
Audrey funny enough tends to act tough and confident, yet when slowly started to crush on you, she was more unsure and you checked in often. Even though her feelings became more transparent and you were flattered this intelligent and strong woman, so of course, you liked her too. One day you reassured her;
“Audrey, you know you can share what is on your mind?”
“Y/N I like you, but...” and you see her smile in relief “but I was worried you did not like me back”.
“I do like you”.
“So, want to go out?” and you both laugh.
Helga (Atlantis: The Lost Empire):
Helga always so busy, but you liked her so much, and she notices and tries to tell you it not work. Only your ambition to keep in contact when she away, warmed her distant heart. So one call she asked you out and when you came back, you rushed with a sign “yes I date you”.
Nani (Lilo and Stich):
Nani so busy, yet Lilo was trying to be your little wingman or wingperson, so she helps in her special Lilo way, to make Nani more free in time. Nani even wondered how she asks you out, so one day when having a movie night, she sleepily asks you out. The next morning at her job and you ran over to talk to her quickly
“What Y/N?” she asks worried if Lilo or the dog Sitch were hurt.
“You asked me out, right, or did I dream that?” and Nani froze.
“Yes, I did”.
“Got it” and she rolled her eyes laughing.
“So I talk to you about this after work?”
“Sounds good”. You leave smiling so widely.
Tiana (The Princess and the Frog):
Tiana and you been friends since ever and when realizing she liked more than a friend, she asked Lottie or Charlotte, if she asks you out.
“Oh, Tiana, this like a fairy tale, plus if Y/N says no, at least you can be friends, for how close you two are. I advise ask them out by writing on your famous benyas”. So Tiana sat down waiting for you one day and when you came she had an honest chat and you saw the banyas and happily said yes to dating her.
Charlotte (The Princess and the Frog):
Charlotte meant you through Tiana and she could not hide her attraction you to Tiana. So when going to one of her dad’s parties, she rushed up and asked you to dance and Tiana hinted slow dance be a fun idea. So when dancing it clicked and Lottie asked you;
“Y/N can we do more fun cute moments like this together? In other words, I like to date you”.
Rapunzel (Tangled):
Rapunzel meant you through a festival in the kingdom and even though she liked you as friends, you slowly grew to like her and given her compliments and tiny gifts. After a few days of hanging out, she was getting the hints. So one busy fun day, she and you leaned in to kiss, and when done with that day she half-joked, “was that date” and when you nodded she was so happy.
Merida (Brave):
Merida hated being gushy and traditional romantic dates, so when her brothers were making fun of her liking you, she owned up to it and said she liked you. Her parents were happy she liked someone, her dad thought you were awesome, her mom was a bit more unsure, yet after you let Merida choose the date, she said archery and said as long she comfortable, you were happy, her mom liked you.
Anna (Frozen):
Anna asked you out on your birthday, well the day after, because she did not want to ruin your celebration. Even though she got you so many gifts and a huge card on how she thinks you are the best friend she could have had. The next day her last “gift” was part two in how what traits she liked about in you.
Elsa (Frozen):
Elsa wanted to deny she liked you, but once Olaf saw how happy she was around you, he told Anna, and Anna told her she had to ask you out. Even though Elsa felt like romance was not her thing, she had to ask you out, because Anna would have asked you all these embarrassing questions; at least Anna claimed they would be embarrassing. So Elsa when alone with you half-mumbled and half-said how she would like to spend more time with just you, she was happy you said you like to too.
Moana (Moana):
Moana and Maui did a fun game of questions and somehow the topic of crushes came up. Maui bragged how many deities liked him, yet his powers could tell you and Moana liked each other. So he asked Moana all these questions that subtly built up to confessing her liking you. Moana was able to laugh it off, yet when both alone, you shared your feelings and thoughts of her. Eventually, she asked if you wanted to go out and when you agreed, Maui yells “YOU’RE WELCOME!”

do you have any recommendations on how to like. Take In Umineko. I think it looks really cool and I’d like to get into it, but there’s a lot of things that are confusing (like all of the different games, the manga, the anime, ect.) and I’m not really sure where to start watching/reading it. Do you have any advice on where the best place to start is?
HOH BABY NOW THIS IS A GOOD ASK
Tumblr media
Basically, a lot of this depends on you and how you prefer to take in media. People are different after all; some people like reading long novels, some prefer comics, u know! So let’s just go over all the avenues and how to get at them, and the rest is up to you!
I’m gonna make this post very long. VERY VERY LONG. IM SO FUCKn SORyr
First, I’ll talk abt what umineko is; then I’ll discuss the various media; finally, at the end, I’ll write down what I typically recommend to newcomers! SCROLL REALLY FAST TO THE HEADERS IF U HAVE NO TIME FOR MY RAMBLING LOL
So…here we goooo
READING UMINEKO: UNTANGLING THE WEB
OR: what the fuck is umineko and why do you want me to read it, diesel?
Since this is a general To Whom It May Concern post: Umineko no Naku Koro ni (Or Umineko: When They Cry, alternatively When The Seagulls Cry) is a murder mystery/fantasy/metafiction visual novel published between 2007 and 2011. I know “murder mystery” and “metafiction” sound pretty boring when you combine them, but trust me–Umineko’s unlike anything you’ve seen, and defies explanation. Still, I’m here to do my best!
Umineko is about a rich and complicated family, and their annual family conference–and the year it goes super duper badly. On an isolated island, in the middle of a typhoon, tragedy befalls the family–on a massive scale! Someone is killing them–all of them–and the only answer that seems to be rising is–
“Beatrice did it.”
But Beatrice isn’t supposed to really exist. Not for real!! No one by that name is on the island. It’s just a story! She’s made up–Beatrice is a legend. A witch who has lived for a thousand years–who loaned the family patriarch ten tons of gold, an insane amount of wealth, in exchange for his soul. Now she’s collecting on that loan, taking everything back, with interest–the lives of the family included.
Is the culprit a human, or not? Does the witch exist, or not?Is the culprit one of the 18 people? Does a 19th person exist? Or…?And, most importantly–when the typhoon passes, will anyone remain alive on the island?
[YouTube: Umineko opening]
I’d super-recommend Umineko if you enjoy: strong characterization, a solidly built mystery (with plenty of smaller mysteries to try your brain with along the way ;) ), complex and nuanced characters, hype magic fights, Logic-Based Combat(???), deep discussions of trauma and its consequences, large casts of characters, Genre Fuckery, coping, Meta™, and milfs Complex Lore
I would, however, NOT recommend Umineko if you are triggered by/can’t stomach reading about: body horror, gore, death, trauma, child abuse, bullying, discussion of suicide, discussion of sexual assault, etc (you can message me for a more complete list of warnings; I’m happy to provide super-specific ones if there’s something specific you’re concerned about, or even give you specific scenes to watch out for. I kept this vague on purpose, but if you message me off anon or via DMs here or at @aceyasu, I’ll be happy to answer anything!)
Overall it’s a pretty dark, emotional story, with a lot of Themes™–but it’s also full of love and genuine heartfelt Feelings. I don’t think any story has touched me the way Umineko has! Of course, everyone’s experience is very unique to them, but I think Umineko has something for everyone (provided, of course, that we’re taking into account the content warnings and excluding people who can’t/don’t want to encounter those things!). The characters, music, story and message–it all has a lot of heart and it all is very important to me as an individual. Obviously no media is flawless, but I think Umineko’s good outweighs its bad…YMMV though of course :p
Also, hype magic fights.
OKAY WITH THAT OUT OF THE WAY
Umineko’s story is told over 8 arcs–styled as “episodes”. I use “arc” and “episode” sort of interchangeably! Specific ones I just call “EP#” though. All you really need to know though is there’s 8 of them, of varying length, and you have to read them all for the full story.
Thankfully they’re numbered, am i right?? HAFDmgkdfmg
Each episode has its own focus within the overarching narrative and comes with its own fun mysteries and harrowing developments just for you! yay! But basically, the important thing is that they’re divided into the Question Arcs (1-4) and Answer Arcs (5-8).
Sometimes, to make things confusing, the Answer Arcs are also called “Core Arcs” or “Chiru”. I will use “Answer Arcs” here, but if you encounter those two elsewhere, that’s what they are. :p
ACTUALLY EXPERIENCING UMINEKO
(now that im done YAPPING)
The anime
Generally viewed as a poor product. It’s a bad adaption that fails as a standalone, too, because of the amount of important scenes that are missing. Don’t watch the anime first if you really want to get into Umineko. It’s a fun watch once you know how it’s supposed to go, though :p Covers the Question Arcs only, ends with EP4–so even if it was good, it would only be half the story… press f to pay respects. The opening fuckin slaps though, and all the VAs are solid.
The manga
Each Episode has its own manga adaption, usually done by a different artist (with exception of EP1, EP3, and EP8, which are all by the same artist). Generally solid; gets the most important parts. For people who want to get through quicker, the manga helps a lot.
The primary cost is that a lot of characterization doesn’t get to shine AS bright, as there’s simply no time to get into the nooks and crannies (still a great cast, though). However, the art is usually fantastic–since the artist changes every EP, it’s easy to deal with even if you don’t like a specific one’s style. It’ll be gone by next Episode!
A lot of moments get punched up by the more visual format of the manga. You really get a better sense of the characters interacting physically with one another! You do, however, run into the Scanlation Problem…..
I know, I know–most people, when given the option to, don’t want to pay for things. So when given the choice between fan scanlations and the official release, a lot of people would choose the scanlations. And they’re fine…for the most part…except for the parts that aren’t. Some parts (notably in the Answer Arcs) are…bad. Really bad. Even I can’t really understand it sometimes, despite knowing this story inside out… LOL
If you’re good at parsing Scanlation SNAFU or can’t afford/don’t want to buy it, you can find Umineko on MOST manga hosts! I don’t know which you prefer so I’m not gonna link ‘em hahahafkgmfh I usually use Manga Rock but that’s because I usually am reading on my phone and I like their app. The episodes are all numbered, so it’s pretty easy to find your way around!
On the other hand, if you have a hard time understanding poor translations, reading inconsistent typesetting/fonts, or simply Can afford it/prefer buying media, the manga is being officially released in English by YenPress! As is standard nowadays, you can get them in both physical volumes and digital e-books! However, YenPress’ release is currently ongoing–the first volume of EP8 is slated to release in March.
[YenPress link]
The visual novel
Ah, here we are–the head honcho himself…! This is the original version of Umineko. These are the ones we call “games”, and why we sometimes say u “play” Umineko, but. Really. It’s just reading. They’re kinetic novels. Its literally just reading. So I don’t know why we complicate things like that.
(“if she an .exe, shes a game”, I guess… xD)
This is where the characterization and voice of Umineko really shines! The style is often simple to read, sometimes even comically casual, but it cuts deep when it wants to. Even really simple lines can have a really strong impact–it’s a really pleasant style to read, IMO…pretty easy to understand most of the time, but emotionally resonant all the same!
Reading the VN is somewhat of an undertaking, because of the amount of hours required…It’s a far longer read. Depending on your reading speed and whether or not you pause to think/talk about things as you read, people clock in 100-200 hours to finish it.
But, on the upside–because it has so much more time than the manga, the VN can really get deep into the characters, their dynamics, and their inner conflicts. You really get a deep sense for everyone’s character and it makes most of the cast feel fleshed-out enough that you appreciate all of them to some extent (whether positive or negative :P)
Oh, actually–the original Umineko branded itself a “Sound Novel”….as opposed to a Visual Novel, where the emphasis is on, uh–Visuals–Umineko leans more heavily on audio to create its atmosphere. And the music? Fuckin rips!! The Umineko soundtrack is huge and has tons of absolute bangers. It’s easy to see why it decided to market itself as a Sound Novel rather than a visual novel–the graphics of the original PC version are simple, but the atmospheric sound effects and BGM really shines.
Here’s some enticing tracks to pique yr interest (be careful about the comments/etc though, there’s Definitely spoilers in there xD)[worldenddominator] [dead angle] [dir] [system0] [hope]
The VN nowadays is split into the two halves; if you get EP4, it’ll include 1-3 as well, essentially. Picking up Question Arcs (or EP4) and Answer Arcs (or EP8) gives u the whole 8 episodes. Easy peasy! Because we live in the future now, and retroactive inclusion of past games is just convenient!
There is an official English release now, which is a brand new luxury. It’s even on Steam! Wow! That’s the easiest way to get your paws on the hands-on experience. The translation has been slightly updated as well! Also, they added a new set of toggle-able graphics that are…um…I mean they’re certainly new…#BarelyContainedOpinionAlert
If you don’t want to pay or can’t afford it…uhhh….I used to have torrent links but they’re all dead. :T still, you can probably just find them, if you know your way around torrents. For the translation, you’ll have to either get a pre-patched version of the game, or use the translation group’s instructions to patch it yourself.
If you can’t do either of those, or just don’t really have a preference, or…any number of reasons, you can also find all the games fully recorded and uploaded to YouTube (with or without commentary)!
As for the links, I’ve got them right h–
Wait–oh, sh–the graphics are bad?!? You think the graphics are bad? Or you think plain reading is boring? Y-you can’t understand what the background image in this scene is even supposed to be? Ah…the post-2007 struggle….
The visual novel, Part Deux: AH, THE JPEGS edition
OKAY SO I SPLIT THIS APART BECAUSE IT*S IMPORTANT
If you wanna spruce up your VN-reading experience, here’s the thing: they ported the game to PS3, with brand new graphics and–get this–full voice acting. Wow! There’s even CGs now…Jeez!
These are NOT the same graphics as the new ones from the official English release! That’s important!
SO, if you wanna spruce up the graphics a bit, or you enjoy voice acting with your novels, you can do that! People took apart the PS3 games and made patches for the PC version to enjoy the new graphics and voices. And now it’s available for the Steam version as well!
[SPRITE COMPARISON: ORIGINAL PC | PS3 | STEAM]You pick your favorite!
ALSO VOICE ACTING! WOW!! Remember how I said the anime got two things right and they were the OP and the voice cast?
SAME CAST, BABEY!!!! They are all excellent and do a wonderful job! It can really add some more interest if you struggle with staying focused on “plain” reading.
Okay so NOW the links:
You’ll have to dig up torrents yourself if you want those, bc its 6am and I’m too sleepy to… uzu
QUESTION ARCS[Physical Eng release] or [Steam page] +[PS3 PATCH]
ANSWER ARCS[Physical Eng release] or [Steam page] +[PS3 PATCH]
YOUTUBE[Non-commentated, with PS3 patch] you can find more just by searching but this one looks good to me :p
RONTRA OPINIONS / SUGGESTIONS
Personally, I favor the VN for most scenes, but the manga for my light casual reading. Y’know? The VN can be pretty…um…dense, at times.
Ironically, I think EP1 itself might be the biggest hurdle for total first-timers. It’s definitely paced as a “part 1 of 8″ for the first solid portion! By which I mean, it really takes its time establishing the cast and their individual situations. Which isn’t a bad thing–especially in the overarching scope of how long the story is–but if you aren’t sure about the premise, format, or if you’ll enjoy Umineko at all, it can be sort of…challenging.
It all really depends on the individual–things like attention span, investment, and personal preferences, imo. Some people just don’t enjoy reading that much text at once! And that’s fine! Some people love it and that’s fine! Some people think the intro is too long, some people think it’s intriguing from the start. Some really like watching character building, and some prefer to see action happening. Either way is fine, so it’s really up to you!
Usually, if someone isn’t sure, I suggest they try EP1 in manga form first, just to see if the general premise entices them; it’s fully possible to jump back and do the VN if you decide you like it! It sacrifices some characterization in exchange for exploring the main premise a little faster.
Similarly, if you just can’t get into the VN–you can read the entire thing with manga too, if you favor action over the deepest character lore. It’s still a good time and a good experience!
Though, in EP1′s favor–if you ARE sure about it, and are able to dedicate your attention to the first 10-13 hours of set-up, EP1 has one of the most rewarding escalations I’ve encountered! If you are able to sit and read a fairly long-winded introduction, you are rewarded with the most buck wild Popping Off you can imagine.
So there’s nothing wrong with jumping right in there with the VN, if you enjoy reading!
However, if you do find that the VN is dragging too much for you, you can go in reverse too–and finish EP1 by manga, then decide if you want to jump back to the VN or not. I promise, the novels pick up the pace too–it’s just getting all the introductions down that can be daunting, when the initial cast size is a staggering 18 people (plus the LORE has to be established too)!!
Just for you–if you want to get into Umineko, but struggle with EP1, I’ll offer my private archive of YenPress manga rips for EP1–read the manga, official english translation, for free thanks to your dealer friend, rontra,You will have to message me about it, though–off anon or via DMs, here or at @aceyasu.
My favorite setups when I play by myself are either Original PC Graphics + Voice Acting, or Full PS3 Patch. I personally really like the original PC graphics, but I understand some people think they’re kinda…um…Rough, to say the least xD PS3 graphics are a close second for me though.
I don’t really like the steam version’s new sprites. Some people don’t mind them, so it’s up to you what you prefer, but I think they don’t really convey the feeling as well as their counterparts sometimes… :/
But hey, everyone’s got their own opinions!
I also prefer the EP8 manga to the EP8 VN. If I have control over someone’s first playthrough, I always push over to the manga for EP8! In my opinion, it’s a rare instance where the adaption is better than its original. People have different opinions on this, of course, but since this section is My Opinions Central, that’s my opinioooon!!! :D
SO BASICALLY MY OWN PERSONAL PREFERRED STRUCTURE IS
->TRY EP1 (jump over to manga if struggling; if enjoyed manga ep1 until the end, hop back into the VN at EP2 and come back to EP1 if you want to later)
EP2-EP7 VN
EP8 MANGA(EP8 VN if desired afterwards, once the dust settles)
But you’re free to do what you want, of course. ;9
And then after that there’s some spinoffs that I didn’t talk about because that’s a post for another time. (There’s a fighting game! It’s packed full of spoilers.)
AFTERWORD
All in all, Umineko is…big. its very very big. it has a huge cast (the final count comes out to like, almost 70 characters!) and a huge story. and huge feelings.
The manga and the VN are the main avenues of getting into it. It’s easier than it looks at a glance; and yet, more daunting than it seems…
If you have the time and energy to pour hours of your time into it, Umineko is a super worthwhile story that tackles genuinely difficult material with a delicate but honest hand.
It clowns up sometimes and stumbles over its own demographic–see: Weird Vaguely Unpleasant Anime-brand Sex Comedy that springs up a lot in EP1, some in EP2, and then largely disappears save for a few dumb jokes here and there–but overall is a solidly built and solidly delivered story about trauma, love, loss, and getting your family ritual-murdered by a thousand-year-old witch who may or may not be real.
And if you have any questions at all (or just wanna talk Umineko), you can send an ask or IM me here or at @aceyasu–you can ask for my Discord too if you wanna really get into it. Or DM me on twitter! I’m happy to answer any question or elaborate on anything you’re confused about. I tried to go over this post quickly, so if I was too vague on something, feel free to ask!
The same of course applies to content warnings; if there’s something specific you’re worried about, I can answer it for you, whether it’s “does [specific thing] happen/appear” or “how much of [thing] is there, i can handle a little bit”! Anything! Of course I want people to read my favorite, but I also more than that want u all to be safe.
I’m very sorry that this post is literally three thousand words long. Umineko’s been my special interest for almost ten whole years. I get chatty! But hopefully my passion shines through and gets you excited!!!
LOVE, A BIG NERD

For "Liminal": 2 ("What scene did you first put down?"), 3 ("What’s your favorite line of narration?"), 15 ("What did you learn from writing this fic?")
2 (“What scene did you first put down?”): Well, like so many of my shorter fics, technically the whole story is one long scene. ^_^ The action moves around, but it follows the same characters and POV with no time skips. And once it gelled enough that I actually sat down and started putting words on the page, I wrote it front to back in one sitting with very little or no editing. But the original inspiration was a little more… complex.
So as I noted on the fic itself, it was inspired by @corelliaxdreaming‘s story “A Way Forward”, in which the Wes from current canon just post-The Last Jedi has a dream about the Legendsverse Fab Four which inspires him to start up a new Rogue Squadron. I was talking with Katie about her further plans for that ‘verse, and she mentioned that eventually Disney!Wes might physically cross over into the Legends universe and meet his alternate self; I don’t remember if this was a Kinktober thing or just me being a dork, but I was like “clearly I should write selfcest of this”. Originally I’d been picturing it as young!Wes/older!Wes, the ages they are in “A Way Forward”, but Katie showed me a snippet from her planned version of their meeting, where they’re the same age (mid-fifties, give or take), and I was like “TWO silver foxes in my selfcest porn? Don’t mind if I do” ^_^
So then I was still percolating for a while, because with a story that’s built on a premise of “these two people meet”, whether that’s multiversal selfcest or the “improbable crossover” ficlets I used to write, the trick is finding some hook that will make them actually interact in an interesting manner, as opposed to just plopping them in the same room and going “look at my faves!” XD
So what actually wound up turning it into a finished fic was – I’ve probably mentioned aspects of this before, but there’s this guy at work, I was like “I have a perfectly good Wes fancast already” but my brain was like “nope this is what Wes looks like now”. So the thing about this guy is, we don’t look alike in all the details, but he’s got the same combination of broad shoulders, long torso, and short thick legs that I do, we’re the exact same height, and we *move* alike. Probably that’s a good deal of what made my brain insist on making him my Wes fancast, because at this point I’d been playing Tiefling Wes in D&D for a year and change, so Wes in my head has my body language pretty comprehensively.
So that’s what made it click. I felt unsettlingly like the AU interloper meeting an established primeverse counterpart, so “Liminal” is partly me trying to work out those feelings in a context of, you know, silver-fox selfcest. XD I think the first clear mental image I came up with for the story, though, was Wes impulsively kissing his AU self when he sees how lonely he’s feeling.
3 (“What’s your favorite line of narration?”): Oh, that has to be this one: “But he’ll be damned if he’ll let this man, who might have been himself, who *is* himself under other circumstances, feel so painfully alone when he has it in him to help.” I don’t know if it’s the best line, but it’s very… me.
15 (“What did you learn from writing this fic?”): Hm. Like as a writer, or about myself as a person, or about my readers, or…? I can usually track down how I used previously-learned things *in* a certain fic - I’ve been playing with using slightly different referents to distinguish linked identities pretty much since I started writing fanfic, for instance - but figuring out what I learned *from* writing a particular fic is trickier.
I think, honestly? I was really nervous about the fact that this wound up being a porn fic with no on-page orgasms. I get… prescriptivist, I guess; I figure a porn needs certain elements to “count”. I was worried it’d feel unfinished or like some weird sort of writerly cheating. But I think the fact that it does work and work well, has hopefully made me feel a little more willing to play around with what gets shown versus implied in my other fics.

My problems with Elseworlds
- SPOILERS everywhere -
Look, I had a LOT of fun with this crossover (I sure laughed!! Also epic stuff!!!) but at the same time, there were a lot of things bothering me throughout the whole thing, and I think even more in part 3. Looong rant so first a
SHORT VERSION:
They spent a good portion of the whole thing shitting on Oliver (I’m not talking about the friendly teasing, those were cool). And a lot of the plot focused on Barry and Oliver, even though they said the crossover would focus on the Trinity - like, Kara’s part was kinda separate from theirs? And I was like, ok, but I thought part 3 would give her more spotlight but it did NOT do her justice.
And now I’m afraid of the outcome of next year’s crossover.
LONG VERSION:
Idk man the writing on this crossover seemed kinda all over the place sometimes. Just to be clear right away: I like all 3 shows and their 3 leads.
You know, as much as I always look forward to the Crossovers and enjoy them, I think I’m always a bit disappointed because their storylines are just SO weird and out of nowhere and everybody seems to be written slightly(?) out of character. Like, one thing they do a lot is get each character trait and AMPLIFY them, as if they are trying to show us “oh look how different they are from one another!!!” - i mean, yes, we know, you don’t need to exaggerate them to show that.
But like, ok, the crossovers are about having fun seeing the heroes teaming up, so I just go with it.
So when this crossover was announced it seemed to have some epic concepts (Batwoman, Superman and Lois, focus on the Trinity), but also the body swap thing seemed...too weird. But again, this is just how things are, it can be fun! An you know what? It was!!!! I had fun with it - I laughed a LOT. And there were important things coming out of it - introspection from Oliver’s part and the boys understanding each other better.
Things were pretty good in the first 2 episodes, but sometimes there were some scenes that really took me out of it like what the hell???
ABOUT OLIVER (and other stuff):
Who apparently is basically the leader in the crossovers (cause he usually calls the shots) but also some sort of edgy bad person/monster or some shit (stop.pushing.both. Like, it’s cool that he leads sometimes but, other times, it feels forced to me. Balance, people)
Like, as a whole, the Event seemed to want to both elevate and shit on Oliver? at one scene they were propping him up as this Big Hero while in another they are making him look like a Big Jerk/Bad Person? Both in unnecessary/uncalled ways? Look, I know Oliver can be difficult and, sometimes, a bit of a jerk but like...??? Not that much??? And not at this point in life??
I usually brush the exaggerations off but sometimes it’s a bit TOO much. And why do we have to make one hero stand above/beneath others? That’s not the point. They are supposed to focus on everybody’s strengths equally!! I was a bit relieved when, after showing as if Oliver would be the one doing the biggest move in the saving, alone, he actually did it by trusting/relying/betting on Kara and Barry “they are our biggest chance to win this” (or something like that) - and convincing the monitor of that. Then probably exchanging his life for theirs because he had to make his heroic move too. (Like, I know without the duo slowing down the rewrite of reality none of this would have been possible but seeing them “just” running while Oliver goes solve the problem is not the same). And speaking of exchange, I am Really scared about them actually killing him next year? Because Arrow started first so one could expect it to end first - that thought has haunted the back of my mind for a while now. I really wish they would end the 3 shows at the same time, because they are connected, even if not all the time. And it’s not like Arrow started THAT much earlier.
By the way I’m not sure I like that they had both Kara and Barry risking their lives in a move that wasn’t going to save the world directly, just giving time for the others to MAYBE save it (they didn’t even had a proper plan on how to do it). Not to mention that, as far as we know, they were not going to die if Deegan rewrote reality again? They would just need to try AGAIN. Unless I’m forgetting something.
Again, I usually brush it off, but it does bother me. Plus, crossovers were always  side stories, a fun way of seeing everyone together, a pause from the main storylines. But suddenly it seems it got serious?? Like, serious, ok, but out of nowhere it seems deadly???? I really hope things are not gonna get that serious on Crisis but how can I not fear it, after how this one ended and by the nature of the comics story?? I know they don’t really follow the comics plotlines, but still. Cause really, I don’t think Kara and Barry are in danger, but what about Oliver??
[ Just a separate note here: I WAS surprised last year with Stein’s death cause, again, I never expected people to die in crossovers - I actually cried in that scene, whoa - but while Stein was an og Legend and a main, he was not THE main character of the show and they were already building up to his exit of the show beforehand, so this time, with the perspective of maybe killing one of the leads I feel like it’s really bizarre and out of place. Really hoping I’m worried for nothing ]
They always want to sell the storylines as serious threats, which I get on some level - it needs to be something big to require the team up or whatever. But they frequently make some scenes that feel a bit...forced to me? Like back when Vandal Savage first appeared and suddenly they were all dying and Barry had to go tot he past and change things? Like, what? But sure, ok. But this time there was part 1 - with people being overly dramatic about Barry “giving in to darkness” or whatever while trying to emulate Oliver?? Like, tone it down, it’s not that serious - and if it was, it surely didn’t feel like it was to me. It just felt like an exaggeration. I completely understand they don’t want Barry to be like Oliver but again, Oliver is not a monster and Barry was only acting as Green Arrow for a few days, what’s the drama??? To be honest the way they were both trying to emulate one another felt forced to me at times - the script asked for Drama around this, but it all happened in a few days, they can’t actually change who they are like that, stop pretending so (I GUESS it’s perhaps a leftover from having living each other’s lives in this reality, even though they don’t remember it??? Only half logical explanation, even though this was never addressed). Maybe it’s only me, Idk.
And when Oliver was a jerk to Barry in that talk in Smallville - he later admitted he was just upset with how Barry seemed to be doing things well as GA without having to go through things he did, and later we see him praising Barry (twice(!), I think?) for who he is which was Genuinely Great (the fear gas thing was good, wow) , but honestly, that little fight on the farm was TOO much and did require he actually saying “sorry”. I mean, he shouldn’t even have said that to begin with. I really think he wouldn’t say those things about Barry (Barry himself pointed out some of his arguments were pure bullshit). Idk what was up with that.
Also as we saw Oliver not believing in Batman’s existence, saying it was a myth created by the GCPD or whatever - sure, ok, but he goes like “I was the original vigilante” I just...... It was just to make us laugh but at the same time, it seems so petty? Which I get is the point, but.... You know, I was almost giving them a pass for some of these cause I feel past crossovers (and even this one at times) want to push Oliver as the main here, so they wanted to show his is not above the others, but whoa, they were actually dragging him?? To see Barry, and even Kara, teasing him doesn’t bother me, I like it, but to see people continuously talking about him as if he is straight up horrible? too much. It all piles up and upsets me. The “cheating with the sister” thing? That was a REALLY shitty thing Oliver did, yes, but that Oliver is from like, over 10 years ago? Barry didn’t even know him back then. WE only saw him through flashbacks. Why do that. Specially IF they are planning on finishing Arrow, why shit on him that much, specially for ooold past deeds, when we are nearing the end? That comparison between the couples also didn’t even make sense, I don’t care what couple you prefer or think it’s best, you do you, but the way they did it was not even fair.
ok this one might be dramatic on my part XD but I want to talk about the lack of a hug: I get that it’s kind of a joke and a way of breaking the pattern, but also....really? I’ve felt like this thing has been a bit forced for years too cause Oliver never had a problem with hugging people he is actually close to, even if he doesn’t do it often depending on the person. And honestly I think at this point we can agree Barry is close enough. And if Oliver did exchange his life for theirs...and he even went with a toast about “appreciating what we have as long as we have it”!!! And then he denies the hug? I feel like they are saving that for next year, but Idk man, we could have both and make them different too. Oliver better initiate that hug at some point, tbh.
By the way, sometimes they make Oliver seem way too lighthearted too, in what feels like a forced way to me as well.
ABOUT KARA (and co.):
Who is frequently sidelined
Seriously, when will they let Team Supergirl be an actual part of a crossover, for at least one episode as themselves?? I say that cause alternate versions of them don’t count. It’s been 3 years, seriously. We already lost the opportunity to use Winn, when will J’onn be included?? That was just a nod to him. Like, Brainy barely got here and his part was actually better than J’onn’s.
Not to mention Kara should have been more active in part 3 - that really bugged me! The Oliver and Barry bromance is one of my favorite things in these shows and I always love to see Clark but I feel the writers did Kara dirty on part 3. She should have fought with Deegan Superman. Twice I thought she was going to, and twice they didn’t deliver (particularly when she finally got her suit back). And while the Clois proposal was very cute (listen, I love Clark), I just....why put it in the end of the episode? It felt weird to me, this is Kara’s show, not Clark’s. And we had the baby’s announcement already. Maybe it wouldn’t bother me as much if they had given Kara more things to do, Idk.
And I actually got upset with that talk about Clark leaving Earth for an indeterminate time - He usually doesn’t show up anyway, why add that? Weird. Maybe worrisome.
Finally, when they said they wanted to focus on the Trinity I thought they meant it as a team. Not Barry and Oliver + Kara and Clark (with bonus Kate and alternate Alex). They did have time together and all, but sometimes...eeh. Tbh alternate Alex seemed to have been shoved in just to make the episode feel a little more like Supergirl, but the good thing about it is that with Alex there Kara actually escaped her cell without the need of the guys coming in - but then they didn’t follow it through by giving the fight to Superman.
Also in my opinion there was too little of Batwoman - I’m not personally upset about it, I wanted them to focus on the trio anyway. Besides I only know the character from like, 2 batman animated movies or whatever. But judging by the promos I thought she would be more in it. I knew having the 3 main plus Clark and Clois plus Kate was a lot...

Seeing double, part 2
@worldoftherandom this did not want to get written for some reason. But I persevered. And kicked the crap out of it with no shoes on. XD
Part 1
All the Loki/Heckyl stuff
The newcomer has a tattoo.
Tony has no idea why this fact in particular stands out as he picks himself up off the ground from where Evil Twin Heckyl’s attack has thrown him. A blue curl of tattoo, just below his ear, which seems to glow, and if that isn’t evidence of some kind of Star Trek Mirror Universe shit going on here, Tony doesn’t know what is. Jesus, that had hurt. Taken by surprise and now bruising from the impact, despite the suit. He needs to work on the cushioning inside this thing, especially around the hips. Ouch. He picks himself up and takes stock.
His Heckyl (and damn if Tony thought he’d ever use that kind of possessive terminology on the man, but there you go, it’s not every day you have to differentiate between two versions of the same idiot) is looking dumbstruck and increasingly (oh shit) frightened. Terrific. Tony had hoped that his huge alien ego and vanity would be so piqued by the sight of someone wearing his face that he’d go all-out crazyperson on the intruder. Instead, he seems to have a Heckyl with a nasty case of the ‘Nam flashbacks on his hands, and that’s nowhere near as useful or fun. Also, it makes Heckyl vulnerable, and vulnerable team members need to be protected at all costs. Because although Steve has the official Captain title, Tony has the unofficial Dad title. Nobody picks on the kids.
“Okay,” he says, facing the advancing Tattooed Bad Guy with a renewed sense of annoyed purpose. “Okay. You wanna play, Mister Hyde? Let’s play. Don’t think having that face is gonna make me go easy on you. I’ve wanted to slap Goggles over there many times for being a smug little dick, you’re just offering me a golden opportunity to act out my revenge fantasies that won’t get me beaten up by his godly boyfriend.”
For some reason this little speech makes the invading Heckyl blink, and pause, and that gives Tony the in to blast him with the repulsors. Score. Knocks him off his feet, but holy crap if he isn’t back up and still coming within seconds. What the fuck do they make these bastards out of, vibranium?
The elevator doors ping again, and Bruce frowns his way out into the sunshine. It takes him a moment to drink the scene in: Tony and Heckyl locked in deadly mortal combat, streams of energy clashing and shrieking as they attempt to overpower each other. Oh boy. The Clash of the Titan Egos. This probably wasn’t wholly unexpected. Bruce wonders vaguely who started trying to kill whom first - and then slightly off to the side, he notices another Heckyl, this one’s expression being what Bruce can only describe as frozen, horrified embarrassment. He looks back at the fight. Yup. Definitely one Heckyl here, one Heckyl there. And just over there - another damn interdimensional portal.
Oh. Oh, okay. Right. So, this is...this is fine. Just another typical day, really. Bruce resists the urge to simply turn around and go back downstairs: instead he heaves a sigh, and approaches the shell-shocked-looking Heckyl carefully. He’s pretty sure this is the one he knows: the one who got blackout drunk on his bed that one time, the one who punched Clint for a danish.  For one thing, he’s pretty sure evil dimension-hopping invaders don’t come dressed in their own “I Heart NY” shirts.
“Hey,” he says. “Heckyl.“ When this doesn’t immediately elicit a response, he moves to more drastic measures. “Bro. You okay? What’s going on?”
Heckyl comes out of it enough to give him an awed, haunted look.
“That’s me,” he says, in a whisper. “I can see him, all of him, what’s coiled up inside. He’s intact.”
Something about his choice of the word intact gets through to Bruce. If their Heckyl counts as partly neutered, domesticated in terms of his attitude, adjusted moral compass and core power, then a fully intact Heckyl is probably something they should really be wary of. It also serves as an uncomfortable reminder that, for better or for worse, their Heckyl counts himself as broken. In more ways than one.
“Okay, so that’s you.” Heckyl nods in response, miserably. “A you from the past, or an alternate universe you kind of deal?” Heckyl shrugs, as if this is really not the thing he’s focusing on right now. “Right,” says Bruce, slowly. “I’m guessing Old You isn’t as nice as New You, huh.”
Heckyl meets his eyes and holds his gaze, and the sheer depth of his unamusement is horrible. “Oh,” he says, bleakly. “I’m a complete bundle of joy compared to him.” He looks away briefly, before continuing: “We talked before. About monsters.”
Yes, they had. And there’s the evidence of that broken bit. Taking that monster out of this Heckyl had pushed him over the edge, left him with some...interesting...psychological quirks which Bruce tries not to think about too hard. The whole work-in-progress that is Heckyl on his somewhat haphazard redemption arc is still hitting far too close to home for him - and the Other Guy.
“That monster’s still in him,” Heckyl says. “He doesn’t remember anything. He doesn’t remember how to feel anything that isn’t rage, envy or desire to possess. He doesn’t know what I know about what happened to our planet.”
“You feel sorry for him,” says Bruce, because there’s an edge to the tone and Heckyl’s expression, and it’s obvious, really. Of course he feels sorry for him.
“I remember what being him was like,” is all Heckyl says. “I remember how good it felt to be him, but how empty. So much pleasure. So much purpose.” He tilts his head, ruefully, and his eyes are blank, and his tone comes out almost sing-song through an odd, creepy little smile. It makes the hairs on the back of Bruce’s neck stand up. “How...very...emp…ty.”
Bruce regards him dubiously for a moment, then:
“W-would you mind?” he asks. “If I, uh - “
And he makes a vague, punching gesture at the air.
“Not at all,” says Heckyl, coldly, although Bruce is pretty sure he won’t watch.
Tony absolutely isn’t getting the worst of it. Not at all. In any way. It’s not even remotely a relief to see the massive green mobile wall that is the Hulk come bellowing into the breach. Honest.
But like Evil Loki before him, Evil Heckyl doesn’t seem to fully appreciate what he’s up against, and goes full-on psycho killer at the big new target, chortling like a maniac because really, what’s more fun than a good afternoon’s massacre when you’re an insane alien bent on taking over the world. The Hulk doesn’t seem to like being hit by the lightning, but only in the way that most people don’t like wasps: they’re irritating, persistent and can sting a bit, but you can easily smack them aside. However, after putting up with several minutes of being fried with blue energy, the Hulk seems to have had enough.
And Evil Heckyl gets smacked. Boy, does he ever. The Hulk lunges in with a proper fish-wife’s backhand, full force, and Tony swears he can hear the impact of green hand on torso as loudly as if someone’s dropped a ten-ton weight. He follows up with a quick blast from the repulsor, for good measure.
Evil Heckyl goes down like a sack of potatoes, skidding backwards across the roof, and Tony bites back on his instinctive cheer, because he can see that their own Heckyl is looking the other way. Even to Tony, it strikes as bad form (outside of approved therapy) to throw a party for the defeat of your former self. And this time, Evil Heckyl stays down, evidently dazed all to fuck. A few smacks from the Hulk could take out Loki, after all - Heckyl’s tough, but he’s not Asgardian tough.
Hulk regards the fallen body at his feet with a triumphant curl of lip, then he glances over to where the other Heckyl is standing and doing everything he can (short of actually sticking his fingers in his ears) not to know what’s happening. A big green finger taps him gently on the shoulder to make him turn.
“Got your back,” the Hulk rumbles. “Stupid Spice Boy.”
Heckyl looks up - and up - at the big green man, and smiles: a broader version of that creepy-as-fuck little smile he’d been wearing earlier. He cranes his neck so that he can take a good long look at his other self lying smashed into the ground. He bends down, slowly and deliberately, and takes off first one green sock, then the other, folding them carefully and setting them to one side. Then, without a single ounce of warning, he charges straight at his fallen other self (who is groaning, starting to come around) and starts kicking the crap out of him, barefoot, while screaming a stream of abuse, some of which doesn’t seem to be in any language common to Earth.
Tony flips up the faceplate, looks at the Hulk: the Hulk looks at Tony. The Hulk shrugs, and ambles off towards the elevator.
“Well, you’re no help,” Tony says. “JARVIS? Get Loki on the line. Feel like we‘re gonna need him. And make the usual order from Cinnabon. But double it.“
And he strolls over in unhurried fashion to drag his Heckyl off the other one by the scruff of the neck. Gotta be a responsible dad, after all, and break the kids up when they’re trying to murder each other.

Persona 5 Royal Final Review
Tumblr media
After 108 hours of gameplay I finally finished Persona 5 Royal. (P5R from now on.) And it is time for my game-review. Usually, if I replay a game, I don’t review it a second time. But I think the Royal version deserves its own review.
Of course, spoiler for P5R are under the cut!
I don’t want to drag that review too long, but there are certain things that need to be said and that is what I am going to do.
First of all, my overall feeling for the game was, that I enjoyed playing it a lot more then the original P5. The things that were changed or added be it plotwise or in the battle- and gamesystem seemed small in the beginning but overall made for a better game experience and made the game more enjoyable and fun.
Of course, knowing almost all of the characters and the overall plot helped a lot to find yourself right at home relatively fast.
I really have to give a huge praise for the prologue to Atlus once more. Because damn do they know what they are doing. The one from the original was already perfect. I mean, I’ve seen my fair share of Prologues in JRPGs and also my fair share of the “This is were you are, now work your butt off to actually reach this point in the game” - ones. But none has ever be as good as the one from Persona 5. So here I was, starting P5R expecting to see the same great prologue again and got slightly panicked the moment I realized something was different. When Violet showed up, I feared it would ruin the amazingness of the original Start of the game by giving to much focus on her. Instead, the scene made the start even better. Because... at this point, we know nothing more about her then that she is the new female character from P5R and she just swoops in, saves Joker and reminds him of a promise we know nothing about. Casually mentioning she is not a part of Jokers Team too, so that at the end of this scene your like: “Okay... who are you, what kind of promise did you have with MY Joker without my consent and why are you a persona user but not part of my freaking team?” Which adds questions to the beginning of a game we actually already know. So in case you’ve watched that Prologue from the original P5 so often, that you are tired of watching Joker jump out of that window like the showoff he is, now you have a new scene that makes the beginning of the game interesting all over again. Really good job Atlus!
Now... let me tell you about my greatest fear about P5R. I know you all don’t want to hear that, but this game was literally Atlus milking the Akechi and the Akira/Ren x Akechi Fans. They knew they could sell a game twice for the same price, with relatively small changes that could have fitted into a DLC, if they just give all those fans more Akechi and more Akechi x Akira/Ren interactions. And for those who dislike Akechi and/or the ship they added Kasumi/Sumire as an alternative, being a new, interesting female character made to fit Joker in the weirdest possible way. So my greatest fear was, that P5R would be full of fanservice and nothing else but that. I feared that the Akira x Akechi ship was pushed to the absolut max (with Atlus still refusing to allow Joker to date him or any guy despite that...) and also pushing Kasumi/Sumire as the female love interest for the other side of the fandom.
Did Atlus do that? Lets say it that way... my fear was for nothing, but it was still a slight bit of fanservice for Akechi and pushing for Sumi (Kasumi/Sumire) there. It was kept in moderation tho (honestly, I’ve seen worse. Much worse. Seriously. Play Cold Steel, then you get what I mean XD) and as every game would use a trump-card like that as a selling-point at least a bit. So I do not blame Atlus for doing so as well, since, once again, it was kept in moderation.
So... about Akechi, Sumi and Maruki and what they add to the game and how they got included in the game and how it works for the game... I have to say, I think they did a really great job with adding those 3 character to the game. (Or in Akechis case, making him a real confidant...) Most of the time, when characters are added in a later version, you often can feel that those characters didn’t originally belong there and they feel like someone cut out a piece of a cake and tried to make the cake look whole again by adding a piece of a different cake, that has the same size, but still doesn’t really fit. Atlus didn’t cut the cake, they put cream on top of it XD
Lets start with talking about the good and bad of making Akechi an actual confidant. But before that, let me complain about the time-limits set for those 3 confidants. They were stressing me out! And with those time-limits, you are basically forced to focus in maxing those 3 first, so that you had barely time for your own teammate. And you have to max them, for the true ending and the third semester. So... I would have wished that wasn’t the case, but I get why it had to be... Now... please tell me I was not the only one facepalming when Akechi gave Joker a headshot and his confidant-level rose in the original game. Because it makes all those “Joker loves Akechi killing him” - jokes a lot less questionable then they should be ^^’ I felt a lot more comfortable playing billiard with Akechi instead - although I have to admit that it felt slightly weird and I was a bit uncomfortable at first. But you get used to it. And I think it also improves one certain part of the story greatly. And that is the part were the game wants to tell you that Joker and Akechi have such a great, strong, special bond. Because in the original game, they hardly ever do anything together, besides those short encounters every now and then. This time, it felt much more real for Akira and Akechi to be close, because they took the time and made the effort to actually spend time with each other and get to know each other. It also gives the player more chances to decide what to do with that traitor. And I guess new player were even more shocked now when Jokers favorite friend suddenly shot him in the head without even hesitating. It really makes the game better in a way. Especially with Akechi suddenly throwing his glove at Joker, telling him he hates him all of the sudden, when you are reaching level 8 of his confidant. It makes everything more round, when it comes to Akechi and his complicated relationship with Joker. There are no “bads” about Akechi becoming a real confidant. It was a good choice and made the game better. So in a way, Atlus wanting to make money by giving fanservice, benefited the game greatly.
Now to Maruki. He seemed to be... relatively unimportant. Honestly, if I didn’t knew I need to max him for the third semester, I probably wouldn’t have done it. Because he is just some random counselor how apparently finds Joker interesting - as many other characters do - so why should I care? Now imagine all those “blind” playing players who didn’t google how to get the third semester and true ending and wondering what they did wrong when they didn’t get it just to find out they had to max out some random confidant guy like Maruki. Those poor souls. So... is that a bad thing? No its not! You are supposed to be shocked and surprised in the third semester when you find out that this sympathetic but relativly boring confidant actually was the guy behind the fake reality. Especially after making it look like it was actually Sumis palace at first. I do have to say tho... he gave me “traitor-vibes” immediately, so I somehow saw it coming. But that is just me being wary of characters in lab coats thanks to certain games... They really made great work with that man tho. Every member of the team had counseling with him (Akechi aside) giving him the knowledge of most of their dreams and wished and problems and also making him look more sympathetic for being so friendly understanding and helpful. Even as the ruler of the fake reality, he actually had “good intentions” at the end, they were still egoistic, but he truly believed he would help people, making it hard to totally hate him and making it also understandable that the other characters didn’t hate him. Even after you want to despise him for what he did to Sumi, she herself said that without it, she might would not have made it, making it hard to hate him for it. The way he was added to the game, felt whole and never gave you the feeling that he didn’t belong there. So once again, good job!
Now... on to Sumi. She has her first encounter with Joker relatively early on in the game and you keep having scenes with her throughout the game, even if you do not do her confidant. Actually, whenever I was a bit sad that Kasumi wasn’t there, she suddenly showed up. Be it at the end of the Hawaii trip of the great scene from the school festival or her running towards Joker in Leblanc after he faked his death. You never have the feeling that she shouldn’t be as close to Joker as she is, because the game makes sure to let them have lots of interactions and encounters with each other, even outside of her confidant-scenes. They did give a hint or to of her true story too. So I wasn’t surprised when the truth came to light in the third semester. Overall I have to say they really overdid it a bit with the drama of her story, but it adds up to why Sumire is the way she is, after you force her to be herself. I was certainly sad I could only have her as my teammate so late in the game tho. Her powers are really great. And it it also a bit depressing if you want to date her (whish the game obviously wants you to do...) and have to wait until almost the end of the game to finally be able to do so. For a month at best no less. all those dates you missed... oh well, dating her is cute at least. I do have one big complain about her character tho. In this totally awkward scene were she was sitting in a Café with Joker and Akechi (or was I the only one feeling awkward sitting there with Boyfriend on the one and Girlfriend on the other side? ^^’) when Akechi - that sneaky bastard - asked her about the Phanthom Thieves she said she doesn’t think its right to count on them, that people should solve their problems themselves and not rely on others so much. Which is right on one hand. I mean, it was great foreshadowing. At some point people really just expected the Phantom Thieves to solve all their problems making way for their great downfall when they couldn’t meet the high expectations. BUT Sumi was the last of all the characters who had the right to say something like that. From the beginning as Kasumi, to the End as Sumire... she always relies on Joker for giving her strength, hope, motivation and a reason to fight and live and get stronger. I doubt she would have managed to overcome her trauma without him. So how did she solve and of her problems herself without always relying on others? I am sorry, but she was not the right person to say that. (But at least, after realizing Akira/Ren was Joker she immediately felt bad about talking not so nice about his team infront of him - although Mr-Sneaky-Bastard set this up on purpose so he should be the one apologizing here...) Anyway. Aside from the scene were the PT fought the god, were she was missing for some reason, she was added very well into the story and made a good addition to the team at the end. She earned her place in the game and made for a nice alternative dating-partner.
Finally... I wanna talk about the damn third semester. Because after all the work and stress we went to to get there... it was a bit of a letdown for me. Tho the start was a shocker with everything that happened, it dragged on and on and on and on and on and on and on. You go into the palace after having absolutly no real freetime between the final boss from the original game and this new final bosses palace. Here in this palace, you lose Kasumi, then you are forced to go out of the palace, just so you can walk around to watch your friend be happy for days with the game making it unnecessarily hard and time-consuming for you by refusing you to use insta-travel for no apparent reason. Then you go back to the palast, save Sumire and are forced to get out of it again. Then you go back in, are forced to go back out again, then you are forced to go to Mementos and go through all the new stupid levels there because otherwise you can’t continue with the palace. Then you go back to the palace AGAIN which seems to never end and has many strong enemy immune to physical attacks because saving SP is a total unnecessary thing in this immensely huge palace. And when you finally almost reached the end of the damn palace you are forced to make a stupid puzzle. URG! Now, you are finally through with the palace, now you have an immense amount of freetime, which still isn’t enough to max many more confidants especially not if you also want to use this last chance to max Sumi. And at this point, it just feels like enough. The game is going on for too long. It has to end. And yet, the final boss, just like this final palace and the third semester goes on and on and on and on and on. Every time you think you have beating him, he rises again and again and again and again. And was that fist-fight with Joker really necessary at the end?
Now that we are officially talking about the third semester... lets also talk about Akechi (again) and also some plotholes. So Akechi is like... having multiple personalities in the last part of the game. One time, he is an absolute bloodthirsty asshole and the next time he is your worried teammate. I mean... how did we go from: “Save your girlfriend yourself, Joker, because if I handle this, she will end up dead.” to Akechi stopping Sumi from running towards Dr.Maruki to keep her save from falling debris? I guess in the end being part of Jokers team finally got to him XD So... Akechis existence in the third semester is a huge problem for the plot. Despite the intentions of the true ending, Akechi is believed to be dead and only lives on because Maruki brought him back so he can have a second chance for a happy live with Joker. That would mean that he was made up by Marukis fake reality to fulfill either Jokers wish or Akechis wish. BUT the moment everyone else of the team realizes they were in a fact reality, that what they had and did wasn’t real, it was gone. Mona becoming a cat again. Futubas mother was gone. The moment both Akira and Akechi knew that Akechi wasn’t  real, he should have vanished, but he didn’t. Now lets say the reason he didn’t vanish, was because he was actually still alive in the real world (maybe in some sort of coma or something, which would explain his memory problems, because then he wasn’t made up by Maruki, but just got pulled out of whatever state he was in in reality...) then it is still a plothole why nobody, not even Maruki himself didn’t wonder why everyone elses true reality came back when they realized the truth but Akechi still stayed there until the fake reality was gone. I think in the end, Atlus didn’t fully think that truth and messed it up a little bit. Also... in Kasumis case. It is said that when people called her “Sumire” she just heard what her changed cognition wanted to hear, which was that people called her Kasumi. BUT if only her cognition was changed, why didn’t she end up in a psychiatry after claiming that her little sister Sumire is dead and that she herself is Kasumi? It doesn’t make any sense, if only her own cognition changed. Once again, not thought through in the end, I think.
Anyway... all in all it was a really good and enjoyable game. I gave it 9 out of 10 points.

For those of you who have watched Season 3
Does anyone else feel like this season was too rushed? I loved quite a bit of it, i feel like too much of it was just thrown at us. Like Allura getting the blue lion, for example: other than getting it in the previous versions, there was no foreshadowing of her ever getting a lion or why she got the blue. Continuing on with Allura, let's talk about her bayard: a whip. First of all: why a whip? We've seen her fight in action before, with a stick/pole; and I think she did a pretty darn good job with it. So why change her weapon now? Not to mention, they didn't even bother showing us her weapon until we see her in action rather than when Lance gives it to her. Why? Speaking of Lance, he's got the red lion now, along with its bayard. I'll start with the lion. This is actually done well. Despite the fandom loving it, I'm not a fan of Klance; not romantically at least. I, personally, see it as more of a bromance. However, I think that all klance and non klance shippers alike can agree that it was an awesome bonding moment between the two when Keith took over as black and lance in red as his right hand (haha literally). It was done very well, and I love that. Now onto his bayard: did anyone happen to notice that it changed its shape? As blue, it was thicker and more compact; now, it's more of a sniper rifle. I'm not sure if this was just a decision change or if this has something to do with Lance's development, but it's really unclear as to why it changed. I think that it changing due to development is a great idea, but we don't know if bayards can actually change their shape. Allura never said anything about that possibility and it's not even touched on. Moving on. Let's talk about shiro. Oh boy, this one's a doozy. I was kind of expecting that shiro wouldn't be seen until the end of the season at the earliest. Yet, we see him a little over halfway into the season. Oh and guess what: he was caught by the Galra, escaped with a pod, and has memory loss! AGAIN. Are you serious?? The first time this happened I didn't like it, it was simply there for plot device, no other reasonable reason for no memory. And yet, here he is AGAIN with memory loss. Sure, there could actually be a reason this time for memory loss. Though shiro doesn't know it, he's a part of some experiment with the galra that's in its third stage. But it's honestly just really repetitive. If they hadn't done it before, I'd probably really enjoy it. Also, exactly how long has shiro been missing? We don't know any time amounts, but I doubt that it was enough for his hair to grow that long. Does anyone remember Sven? Yeah, the original blue lion pilot from the 84 series! If you remember, he got hurt badly my Hagar and had to leave, which opened a spot for Allura. Now, they replaced Sven with our Shiro. And yet, turns out that they couldn't resist themselves and decided to put Sven in anyways. Turns out, all that reality mumbo-jumbo Slav always talked about is real. Yay? I guess I'm fine with the whole "alternate reality" thing, which has been used a lot before in other series, but why bring back Sven? There was literally no point in having a Japanese guy (Shiro) talk with a Norwegian accent in an alternate reality. I'm aware this isn't really a huge deal, but I'm not the happiest about this season. As for the actual alternate realities, I'm actually really impressed with their creativity with it. It can be an overused subject, but they did really well with it. I'm still slightly confused on the comet and what that slimy creature was (it kind of looked like Endless from Rave Master to me), as I'm sure many of us are, but I'm sure that will be explained in a later season. It was really cool for me to finally see Alfor and Zarkon's past. Honestly, I was surprised to find out that each Paladin was a different species. And that the green one was also a girl. I guess it doesn't like guys XD. Sorry, bad joke. Anyways, to none of our surprise, Zarkon fell in love with an Altean woman, who can assumed to be Hagar. Zarkon has a typical playground crush then eventually marries the woman. As she finds out more about the strange reality rift, she gets more shut off from the world and deeper into her experiments, even making her cat immortal with quintessence (how do you spell that??) and bringing in a dangerous alien. First of all, sorry I just have to say it: I TOTALLY CALLED IT. I knew that's how Zarkon lived that long! You have no idea how much I screamed when I saw that scene. YESSSSS!!! *cough* Sorry, continuing now. We see from the enlarged marks on her face that this woman is indeed Hagar. Big surprise! However, because of her experimenting and exposer, she gets really sick, which leads Zarkon to putting her directing into the quintessence, making both him and her immortal. Because of what Zarkon did, Alfor destroys Zarkon's planet. After this, Zarkon goes into a power rage and destroys Alfor's planet, then Alfor himself. Back to the current time, we find out that Haggar had no memory of being his husband. Wait, stop. WHAT. WHAT? More memory loss?? Are you KIDDING me?? Why would she have memory loss? After 10,000 years, not a single memory of any of this? Yet Zarkon seems to remember just fine. Although we can't say for certain he remembers having a wife, he sure remembered using Voltron to open the rift. I just can't believe they added more memory loss to this thing. I'm going to be honest, I was really disappointed when I watched this season. Maybe it was because I watched it once the day literally started at midnight, or maybe because I set my expectations too high. But I really felt like they did everything while doing nothing at the same time. Of course, their were several moments where I was super happy to see the gang back in action, but I just expected more, I guess. One thing I was upset about there not being: anything about Galra Keith. We got a lot of that last season, yet not even a mention in this one. There was that mention of seeing that weblum galra again, but nothing on Keith. Another thing: didn't Allura use magic last time?? Like Hagar's magic?? Why was that never brought up? I think that something like that is pretty important, don't you? Why is it that whenever there's a big reveal moment, they cut it out? Examples: when Keith had to come back in season 2 and tell everyone he was Galra, we never actually saw him tell them, they just knew in the next scene; Keith finds Shiro and brings him back, yet we don't get to see this glorious reunion between them and their leader. Why? I don't know about you guys, but that's something I would love to see. Look, I'm sorry that I'm bashing on the newest season when it just came out. I should be bouncing off the walls with joy, yet I'm not. I just had really high expectations on this and it didn't really pull through. I know this isn't an actually review (maybe I'll make one later), but I hope you've enjoyed both this and the newest season! Until next time!

and I’m just thinking about how much its a great template on how to make a small town feel like a real living world, and how to make you get to know characters organically, and such! there’s so much you can take influence from even in wildly different genres of game that dont share any of the same mechanics! So umm here’s my random post of thinking about things inspired by rune factory that I’d love to incorporate into my own games someday~! I think a lot of it could work best for my ‘cathedral tower’ game cos its about protecting a town of people, or my ‘zombie mum’ game cos it could have a lot of similar scavenging mechanics. HMMMM... This game just makes me so inspired!!!
* I really really REALLY like how you gain stat experience from doing various exploration activities around the world, and it translates into bonuses to your battle and/or farming skills. AND those battle and farming skills give bonuses to each other! Like.. walking, eating, taking a bath, throwing stuff, they all add small amounts to your hp or stamina bar. Which means you can farm more! And all the different types of farming and crafting activities, which you can do more of now, add vitality and accuracy and strength. And now you can battle more! And battling gives a very good growth curve of making you better at battling, there’s levels but there’s also great encouragement to try every weapon and magic in order to pump up your stats. Which is also great incentive to do crafting so you’ll actually be able to handle fighting with a low level weapon long enough to gain all the boosts. Which is a great incentive to farm and explore to get those ingredients in order to craft. Which is a great incentive to befriend the townsfolk, and level them up as your companions, and give them your leftover crafted items in order to equip them all good and make them more useful while raising friendship at the same time. aaaa everything links so well, its so well made! it means you can succeed in the game no matter which part of it you’re better at, and its easier to get into trying the stuff you maybe dont like as much. Except for the soil levelling system, thats annoyingly nonintuituive and non-tutorial’d compared to the rest...
* Anyway! Ideas for how it could be expanded even more to give you even more of a sense of progression! And also to make it less repetitive having to reexplore the same areas again and again looking for stuff that only spawns there. Eventually you’re gonna be stuck with a total lack of some early level item and you have to backtrack searching for where on earth it came from :P ANYWAY! The idea! Maybe you could level up your gathering skills with different forms of gathering? You kinda do have that with the mining/farming/etc, but it doesnt have any effect on what you gain, how fast you can gather, how much you gather, etc. It just gives you the battle stat boosts for gathering a lot. My idea was maybe like... if you have high level mining then maybe you have higher odds of finding rare rocks, getting more drops per rock, getting the rarer drops within the rare rocks, rocks respawning faster, etc. So it becomes less and less difficult the more powerful you get! And instead of lots of items being super limited to certain areas, technically every area contains the same rock items and its only your skill that determines what you get. With maybe just a little bit of a levelling curve, like if you enter a high level area earlier than you’re supposed to then its harder to mine a rock. Takes 50 swings instead of 5, or whatever. But this is also a reward for exploring there early, cos you get 50 chances to win a good item from that rock, instead of 5. (Provided you even have enough stamina to manage that!) And maybe high level rocks give more mining experience, or whatever. Aaaaand maybe there are indeed some area-exclusive drops, rather than necessarily everything scaling to your current level. But they wouldnt be as specific as in RF4, where I have to keep going back to this one haunted mansion thats the only damn place containing spiders so far! Like, have several areas at different levels throughout the game, so there’s always a new [item] hunting area thats relatively close to your level at all times. And maybe the higher level equivelant of like... the spider area, would give out bigger amounts of spider items and more exp and whatever. But you could still totally sit around grinding in the low level spider area and start getting higher level spidermeats if you do it enough, its just easier to grind at the later areas. So the level curve still works out! Man sorry this is a long confusing blabber cos i dunno how to explain this XD
* Alternative idea on how to make low level items still relatively available even when it becomes annoying to backtrack to those areas: Digimon World version! Alternative methods to acquire those items easily without gathering will appear as the game goes on. In DW1 the shops unlock in roughly this pattern. (Well, its a sandbox game so you can sequence break at some points and unlock shops in different orders, but yeah) Like around the time you’re 10 levels above [spider area], you get a merchant who sells those spider things. And by now you’ll be making a lot more profit so its way more feasable to just buy it all from them instead of backtracking to gather. Or maybe it could be part of a reward for befriending people? I thought in the cathedral game it would be good if you could set other characters to do work while you’re out adventuring, once youve earned their trust. So you could get an infinate source of those low level items through this method, and maybe get more appreciation for the characters when they’re being super helpful and all. And maybe you could set up various areas in your home base in order to change the low-level item that the npcs will farm. Like, set up a small pen full of tamed spiders that you can milk for cobwebs every day. And as the game goes on, you can upgrade your base and add more room for multiple item-farming areas at once.
* And also possibly have a small chance of characters randomly appearing each morning? Like, instead of necessarily having to backtrack around the town every single day to talk to everybody, once they’re a high enough friendship level they’ll randomly take the initiative themselves. And give you bonus gifts and sidequests and stuff, or maybe have a chance of doing a small favour for you. Like you wake up and a few squares of your farm are already watered or harvested, or one of your items has had its durability restored, or clues have been added on your map on how to find a new area. Or I dunno.. like... they cleaned your house or made you breakfast and you get a productivity boost from friendship joy. But yeah this randomness would be another way you could still receive old items without having to backtrack. Plus generally other anti-backtracking helpfulness! I think that as your level increases it should get easier to do your daily chores, so you have more time to do [insert whatever thing is currently plot important at this level]. Thats a big problem that makes it exhausting to continue playing farming games after a long time. Like.. the first time you run around the town giving people gifts its fun, but after doing a whole year of it it gets frustrating that it never gets easier or less required. Same for farming and backtrack-gathering, and even battling and exploring to some extent. if the way you do these things eventually started to get easier/change in how you do them, then they’d never get monotonous. Though that might just be a problem for me, I guess? I dunno if I’m weird but i find things more and more difficult the more I do them, routines are frustrating to me instead of easier. I have to find ways to always spice it up!
* Another idea of more ways to interact with characters beyond just giving gifts every day! Maybe have bonuses in certain areas every now and then? like, wake up one day and [character] is saying ‘the harvest in [area] is really good!’, and then if you go there you get a higher quantity of stuff, exp, and some cute friendship scenes with the charrie. Or maybe there’s too many [monster] in [area] and the harvest might actually become bad if you dont team up with [character] and exterminate them! And again, it’d become easier as you get higher levelled. At the beginning you’d pretty much be required to go for these events or else miss the chance, but later on if characters trust you a lot they could do it automatically on their own if you miss the event. So they continue gaining bonus exp even when you’re not travelling with them, you still gain (a slightly smaller amount of) the bonus item in your supply box, and really all you lost was a chance to raise more friendship points with them.
* Also maybe sometimes with regular quests/requests, a character could volunteer to help if they like you enough? Not for main story quests, with those you’d just have the character asking if they can join you for it. But with like... fred asks you for some chestnuts to make a cake for gerald, and mary calls you up to say ‘hey i heard about it, i had a big harvest of chestnuts today!’ And then you get friendship with all three of them, and save some time! And you can still refuse if you wanna do it yourself, that way you’d get bonus friendship with fred. cos like, he heard from mary that you said you wanted to handle the problem personally, and he was flattered. :3 (tho some characters would be different, maybe some would dislike it? i dunno)
* I really love that you can give cute hats to the batchelors and batchelorettes in RF4, and they wear them, and it is cute. This needs to be a thing in all games! I also like that the way its done is sorta easter eggy? Its not really explained as its own unique feaure, youre actually never told you can change party members’s equipment, which is a little bit annoying. But its also nice that its just like... “wow, the game’s much more open than I expected!” You can give gifts to characters and you wonder if you can give every single item, then HUH if you give them hats they actually wear them! And they can use all the same weapons you use! Awesome~ I also like that it seems like they have a chance of randomly wearing every hat you ever gave them? Whenever theyre in your party, they wear whatever equipment you last gave them, but when theyre wandering around the town they randomly wear their entire hat history. Thats so cute and makes them feel more alive! Itd be so neat if characters in these games could ‘remember’ stuff like that more often. Like I dunno... maybe the game logs down the first gift item you ever give each character, and then they bring it up during their final max-affection event. With different cute conversations depending on what it was! Like ‘omg wasnt it hilarious, I really hated it’ or ‘i cant believe you got my fave item on the first try!’ And then if its something of medium level like, maybe they say ‘i never really thought [item] was all that special, but ive become quite fond of it now it makes me remember you’. And i dunno, maybe at the ending the game could remember who you had in your party during every big story quest, and show a montage during the credits ^_^

Thanks! :D
4. favourite dish specific for your country?
Does rye bread count? You just can't get the perfect type of rye bread from anywhere else than from Finland, and I think also Estonia loves their rye bread? There's probably some dark breads in Scandinavia too but I feel like they might be a bit sweeter, which is not my favorite. (They also had rye bread in Poland when I visited there, and it was fine but not like the one I've got used to here :D)
The typical, good Finnish rye bread is almost or only 100% rye and it's slightly sour. I usually eat only rye bread that is 100% rye because the wheat there is totally pointless and if it's not wholegrain, it's just... basically same as putting sugar in the bread, (the wheat there) has absolutely no nutritional value.

11. favourite native writer/poet?
Hmm. I don't like poems in any language and apparently this is something I've had since I was a little kid because I always took some Finnish poetry books from the bookshelf (my mom loves poems, especially this author's) and yeeted it to somewhere in the room............. I just didn't like having it in the bookshelf at all XD
I also haven't really read any books from Finnish authors. I don't think we have THAT big of a scene, it's quite difficult to be any kind of artist in Finland cos you have to do so much work for that and it still might not be enough. I guess most here do several things, or write a book as a sidejob because it might be impossible to make a living with that. The first and latest book written by a Finn (Antti Holma) was this autobiography by someone who started as an actor, but doesn't even live in Finland anymore because this country just doesn't offer him suitable work anymore, and he can still write occassionally when living abroad. I liked the book tho, but I don't know if I he is the best answer for this when his books are literally the only two books written by a Finn that I have read.
I own more of non-fiction by Finns, but mainly those are just horse related books, e.g. about the history of Finnhorse, or horse training books from an animal trainer Tuire Kaimio, and her books were my first touch to "natural horsemanship" when I was 13.
Also, Finland of course has a long history of writers, there's lots of big names and altho I like reading, I'm so bad at reading books people label as classics. I haven't read any of those books that "every Finn has read". Like, no... I'm not interested in most of the topics, I even hated Kalevala (our natural epic) at school because I hate poems so much that I was crying blood (also from my ears) whenever I had to hear those super annoying Kalevala rhymes.
***
The rest of the stuff under the cut.
18. do you speak with a dialect of your native language?
Yes!!! I'm from the East Finland and from an area where there is no particular dialect but it's like a mixture of all the Eastern dialects, and there's lots of variety already within the area of my municipality (the other end speaks slightly differently than the other end, and I live here in the middle :D). So this is really a mix of Savonian, South- and North-Karelian and I think something might come here from the Central Finland too.
I'm also extremely fond of dialects and my paternal grandma was from South Osthrobothnian, very close to the West coast, and I just recently talked about it with my mom and she said that altho my grandma lived and also died here in the East (and I was born here and have lived my whole life here so far), she absolutely hated the Savonian dialect and always said that she's not going to start talking in it EVER XD And she didn't! She always talked in her South Ostrobothnian dialect and altho I don't really remember much of that - I was 13 when she died - I guess it still is so strongly in my genes because every time I hear that dialect somewhere, I just feel like I had gone home and I feel so warm inside! Also I relate so strongly to the stereotype of West Finnish people, they're said to be very reliable and honest, and I'm a nice mixture of that AND the Savonian stereotypes too. ("A cunning Savonian", for example, lol. Apparently it has something to do with the dialect/worrisome nature of us and we not really giving straight answers, even if it wasn't even actually LYING - there's also a saying that "When a Savonian is speaking, the listener is in charge.")
That's also why I have, unintentionally, adopted lots of the Ostrobothnian dialect into how I speak, so my personal dialect is not only what people here normally speak, but also has lots of features from the Ostrobothnian dialects.
When I write online, I often clean up my dialect a bit because this Eastern dialect is actually really, really strong. I love how it (also) sounds, it has this very relaxed sound to it, like there's no worries in the world? I love it. So when I write, I write a bit closer to the common spoken Finnish, but when I start speaking... my dialect gets very strong again. Sometimes, if I'm nervous, I go more into the cleaner version because this dialect is also very noticeable and usually whenever I speak it somewhere else, people will comment on it because West Finns often find it so funny or cute sounding - or the opposite, some find it extremely obnoxious and wish no one would speak in it :D Actually if I see anyone commenting how annoying the dialect is, I start talking or writing in it even more strongly on purpose XD
Another funny thing I have noticed about how I speak is that, well, in Finnish the 1st pronoun is "minä", most people say "mä", but in my dialect it's "mie". I have always found that fun to say, but I have never liked writing it. Whenever I did comics or wrote stories/fanfiction in Finnish, I always wrote "mä". I just could not hear "mie" with them. But lately I have noticed that when I want to talk about me in a written form, like a comment on youtube, writing "mie" will give away immediately that I'm from the East and the dialect will piss off people. Sometimes they even come to comment to me something racist about Russia altho I have no connections to Russia? My whole family tree is from Finland, I might even have some roots in Germany, actually. So I very often have now replaced that with "ite" when I write - it comes from the word "itse" which, well, it's easiest to translate into German as it means "selbst". So basically I say "I myself...", but I use it like a pronoun because you can do that in Finnish, and it gives me the opportunity to avoid using "mie" and sounding "childhish", but still I have a pronoun there. Fortunately in Finnish you can also leave out the 1st and 2nd pronouns but when I add "ite" there, it kinda just emphasizes the verb even more.
Omfg I love languages and linguistics and dialects so much, I could just keep going about Finnish dialects and mine but I could imagine it being very difficult to comprehend if you don't have any existing knowledge over Finnish overall! :D

26. does your nationality get portrayed in Hollywood/American media? what do you think about the portrayal?
Very rarely, currently I can't remember any that would have not had Finnish people working with it. Usually Finland is not really known in the US, I think not everyone even in Europe know what or where is Finland even, so usually any time this country gets mentioned somewhere, everyone goes crazy.
There's probably not a single video on youtube without at least one comment going "Suomi mainittu, torilla tavataan!" if Finland has been mentioned in the video. That phrase means "Finland mentioned, let's meet at the market place!" I even use this tag in Tumblr whenever I see some random post with lots of notes and someone mentions Finland (and the someone is not Finnish themselves).
Actually, now I just remembered something! In The X-Files there has been a mention a few times! I don't remember anything else but this one episode about a chess player boy, and Scully says "Helsinki syndrome", which is an alternative/old name for "Stockholm syndrome" :D Always have to throw a party after that line XD (Jk :D)
There's also this one time when Conan O'Brien made fun of Finns on tv, and he got a bunch of angry letters from Finns and he actually apologized on tv :D Then, I don't remember if it was before or after that, he noticed he actually looks a lot like Tarja Halonen, who was our president at the time, and he made some jokes about that and in the end he actually visited Finland and even met with her, a few times :D That was HUUUUGE for us Finns XD I remember watching the episode of his visit to Finland with my family lmao.
Now I also remembered something else... SO TYPICAL OF ME :DDD ...also typical of me to forget it right after remembering it. Wtf was it again? Oh yeah! I watched lots of Jackass and Viva La Bam when I was a teenager, and it was so exciting to see how excited Bam Margera was over Finland, because he was really into Finnish (metal) music. He even once made a movie, which wasn't that interesting tbh, called "Where the F* is Santa?" and it was kinda sweet of him how he got so angry every time someone said Santa Claus comes from the North Pole, because he knew he comes from Rovaniemi, Finland instead, and he tried so hard to pronounce the name correctly and corrected everyone who thought Santa doesn't come from Finland :DD
Okay I think this is ENOUGH ::D

Annotations on Falling in Love with Love (Again)
FiLwL(A) is my 3zun cinderella which is actually just about the importance of qin su and also reuniting with your exes. Here’s my behind the scenes/notes/lore for chapters 9-11.
ch 9: nie mingjue being hot
i wrote this before i’d even written the Murder in ch 6;;;;; i just love nie mingjue
i so deeply believe in nie mingjue being smart and able to see through meng yao because he’s straightforward and strategic.
“hmm” i said to myself. “how do i write the bois getting together??” after much thought i decided on “by stabbing one of them a bunch”
bits of this are still funny to me. rip meng yao sometimes you gotta be up close and personal with a hot dude’s bare sweaty chest
also my version of “romantic and sensual” is just “doing math and deciding yeah, against your better judgement, you’re gonna smooch” because i love an overthinking murder twink
“on the bright side, the late-night guest was not jin guangshan’s type. unfortunately he was exactly meng yao’s type: nie mingjue” i can’t believe i let myself write this, bc it feels way too modern, but also the tone of this fic is just sarcastic enough that modern grouchy shit works
ever since i discovered that camel was a delicacy in tang china i became OBSESSED with it. i nearly included it in ‘i have always loved the door’ and it makes an appearance in ‘blood in the cut’
the guan reappears!! or at least is mentioned.in case u forgot it from chapter 1 it is Definitely Not A Glass Slipper Or Anything
“i love ruining a twink’s life” i said in the author’s notes. i was not lying. my hobbies are making nie mingjue look cool and making jin guangyao suffer.
“xichen was disappointed when he didn’t see you there” “and you of course, weren’t” “on the contrary i was happy to see you” is one of the exchanges that was like. core to this fic. similar to “i met someone” “i don’t know what you want me to say to that” “neither do i”
when outlining fics i tend to include some key dialogue/exchanges that strike me as the Mood TM and half the time these exchanges go through incredible rewrites or just get deleted, but it’s always nice to see them survive
the xiangqi was so much fun to write, not bc i have played the game a bunch (i haven’t) but bc it gave me a fun way to talk about the conversation without talking about the conversation.
“a controlled leak qould have been very useful” makes me so happy it’s such a MOOD and nie mingjue immediately going heart-eyes over it is complete wish fulfillment. when will a hot sword lesbian be enamored over my ruthless scheming???? im taking sword lesbian gf applications over in my ask box
“But it hadn’t been easy” this paragraph originally included “Nie Mingjue had broadened his moral compass, and Meng Yao had learned to trust” or something but i couldn’t  really figure out how meng yao would describe his own personal growth since he left qinghe. like he DID grow he DID learn that he can trust the people he loves to trust him and that it’s worth bringing people in on your schemes and plans.... but he’s too dumb to describe this.
the xiyao troll’s comment on this was “LMFAO that oocness from both meng yao and nmj where nmj is suddenly JGY levels of cunning and JGY is dumb enough to make mistakes XD”
this has stuck with me so hard
how do you read Falling in Love with Love and only discover after 16k words that i think meng yao makes mistakes?????
how do u consume any adaptation of mdzs and think that nmj isn’t smart enough to go “huh that cunning twink who is absolutely mooning over me and xichen and also plays weiqi like my old buddy seems REAL FUCKING FAMILIAR” nmj canonically sees thru jgy machinations all the time
anyway i love nmj and the xiyao troll
did you know there’s an exchange to celebrate the troll’s works??? i discovered it after signups closed but im going to enjoy reading all of them
ch 10: and with very little trouble
this took me like a month to write oops but that’s just because a lot has to happen
the opening where meng yao is being mean to qin su was so hard to write. meng yao getting overworked?? fine. meng yao getting abused??? cool. meng yao being slightly short with his sister, who is in no way hurt by this bc she can tell it’s not about her??? HORRIBLE!!!
the detective scene happened. there’s not a lot to say about it, i don’t think, except to note that han meilin did try to stand up for qin su
ch 11: impossible things are happening every day
cinderella time mother fuckers!!! this is another one that took time!!
ch 10 took time bc i wasn’t 100% sure how it would play out
this took time bc even though i knew exactly what would happen and how, it has to be Real Good, y’know? it’s tying up the entire fic. if these 2k words don’t work, then the rest of the fic will feel less good and ppl won’t come back to it
(please everyone come back to this over and over if only to laugh at my obvious qin su agenda)
qin su and meng yao fighting over who gets to take the fall for their joint murder. i love them.
i wasn’t planning for this fic to start the sunshot campaign but here we are. in the war.
How did this version of the sunshot campaign go? Well. not good. because someone has no reason to invent necromancy. But not as poorly as you’d think. Jiang Sect isn’t destroyed, and the Cloud Recesses are functional (although not at full capacity), so they have more strength on hand. Plus, Meng Yao encouraged Koi Tower to funnel money and resources into the Qin Sect, specifically so if the war started before he expected it to (whoops!!! it did!!!!), those resources would be somewhere he could encourage to fight.
on the one hand, the sunshot campaign’s territory is divided in half by the wens. on the other hand, that means the wens are fighting on both the northern and southern border (since, again, jiang sect is still alive)
anyway i’d say it’s a more steady war, as opposed to my recollection of canon where like. everyone’s fucking miserable until our sexy goth boi comes out with his corpses and wrecks shop.
then han meilin and qin su look at their families and say “if you do not let us marry right now in a way that combines our sects equally...... we will just do it anyway.”
(meng yao in the background, holding a thin knife: fucking try me. try me. i want you to be mean to my sister just so i can stab you with my knives.)
anyway it’s time for the epilogue where meng yao is vice general and there is no more wen sect
(have i thought about the dafan wens in this ‘verse? no. i probably should not, either, as wwx would be less ride-or-die for them and that means maybe wen qing and wen ning would die in a war camp)
never mind!!! happy thoughts only!!!! like how qin su and meng yao are getting ready to kill again bc they are the bi crime sibling club!!!!
jin zixuan is invited to family brunch but he’s never invited to bi crime sibling club because qin su and meng yao refuse to let him lose his innocence.
“ge, jie, i’m married with children, i don’t have any innocence to lose--” “oh didi, precious baby, our infant brother, shining beacon of our heart...”
mo xuanyu is also forbidden from joining bi crime club. he’s too baby.
they do discover other jin bastards and invite them to lunch and sure, there might eventually be another bi criminal.
3zun visits each other in 2 month chunks, with one to two month breaks as needed. so the epilogue is the beginning of 2 months hanging out in meng yao’s house, and then later in the year they’ll hang out in the cloud recesses or whatever
qin su and meng yao both have secret lists of places to acquire babies for each other. han meilin knows about both of these lists and laughs every time she sees the same orphanages on both lists.
the final comment from the xiyao troll on this was: “Interesting choice to write a bland ooc AU, but I guess this is all you can manage with your writing skill. ;) This way you don't have to worry about JGY lying to Xichen for years, murdering NMJ, attempting to murder Xichen's family in the second siege, stealing secrets from the Lan sect, corrupting a healing song Xichen trusted him with, and fully betraying LXC's and NMJ's trust.”
like. yeah. of course i sidestepped the bad things. that’s what a fix-it au is for. it’s where i say “here’s an alternate universe, where certain bad things do not happen.” it’s where i say “if meng yao had always had qin su around to counteract the messaging his mother gave him, he might not have gone so far in his quest for power”. duh.
also like kiddo, troll, friend. the pitch for this fic is “cinderella except with murder and qin su rights”. i’ve been clear from the top that this is an Indulgent Fic with No Pretenses of Quality. im proud of some sentences and passages, but this ain’t Blood In The Cut where im tryna Say something or either of my jiang cheng-centric fics where im focusing on good characterization.
it’s a cozy murder where qin su gets to live and have a cool wife
