omg I love this by @steddieas-shegoes, but for some reason that scene from Ted Lasso immediately popped into my head when I was reading it? Thus, this:

It's not long after Steve and Eddie finally slept together for the first time that Eddie walks into the house to Steve holding a baby, a baby with curls and big amber eyes.

And he doesn't want to assume, but it is dressed in a pink onesie, so he's gonna go ahead and say she's a girl baby. And Eddie definitely knows there's normal things to ask about a surprise baby, like what's her name or who's is she or, even, where'd she come from, but nope.

"Is- Is she mine?" he says, eyes widening and a hand drifting up to his chest.

Steve just looks at him, a bemused smile spreading across his face,

"Eddie, we had sex, like, a week ago."

"Riiiight right right, sorry, yeah bad math" Eddie says, huffing out a laugh. 'Cause yeah, it's the math that's the issue.

Steve turns to head back into the kitchen, blithely adding as he goes,

"And if memory serves, you finished on my-"

"Woooah nonono!. Steve! You can't- That's not-" Eddie says rushing after him, stopping in front of Steve and the baby.

The baby who looks up at him with giant eyes and fingers in her mouth and looks so much like SteveandEddie that Eddie's brain is still trying to work out some sort of science or magic that would explain this situation because he suddenly wants it to be-

And Steve's just looking at him with the most gentle half smile and crinkly eyes, but Eddie just shakes his head to clear his thoughts, gently covers the baby's ears, and says in the most scandalized tone he didn't even know he had in him,

"There's no reason to get into the science of it all in front of the baby, Steve!"

Steve smiles wide at that and he heads to the sink, patting Eddie on the shoulder as he goes,

"Well, why don't we get her a bottle and then we can discuss the science of it all while she naps, hm?"

something that genuinely changed fic writing for good for me and made things so much easier was realizing that you can just write That One Scene. that one scene from something bigger you keep rotating in your head over and over? you can write that. you don't have all the plot and stuff around it worked out? you're not sure you'll ever figure out the full plot? or there isn't really any plot but it feels like there should be? doesn't matter, you can write just that one scene. add some subtle context if you feel like it to explain the story a little. or don't! make it a series of separate scenes within a story if you want to. that scene that lives rent-free in your head can be written (and posted!) just as it is, it doesn't need a big story around it if you don't feel like it

bisky!!!! i shall i shall 🫶🏻 fair warning that my self-ship with him is incredibly delusional and one of the few where i’m not a “normal person” but actually have an interesting backstory.

to make things brief: i’m one of orochimomu’s test tube babies—how did he get me? nobody knows! he makes a deal with the hidden leaf village and sells me to them; i go into the foundation at a criminally young age and become danzo’s pride and joy. fast forward to my mid-twenties: i’ve been struggling with depression and my role for years. mid-mission i go rogue and escape to a rural village—still in the land of fire, but far from the hidden leaf. i chop off my hair and dye it and try to live as a normal person.

then danzo approaches the akatsuki and offers them a significant sum of money to bring him my head still intact. they decide to weigh their options and seek me out—i may be a more valuable asset with them. anyway because i’m a ✨ good ninja ✨ (old habits die hard) i figure out i’m being tracked and i live like a hunted animal for a bit until i’m forced to fight the akatsuki member after me: hidan. his jutsu is insane and my senses are a bit rusty so he gravely injures me and takes me back to their hq.

i eventually recover and i’m faced with a choice: i can either get taken back to danzo and face certain torture and possible death, or stay with the akatsuki and seek vengeance while helping them with their ends. i of course decide to stay because i’m pissed, and yeah! that’s the gist of it. i’m paired with hidan and kakuzu because i have good healing abilities and because kakuzu sometimes has to do things alone as mr. money man. it all sort of… blossoms from there. hidan and i are two bloodthirsty freaks or something.

Cooking Things I Learned the Hard Way

Don’t use plastic utensils to prepare hot meals just. At all. The heat from the stove can soften and even melt the plastic, and then all that crap winds up in your food.

Do not microwave plastic tupperware containers with leftovers in them for the same reason. Put the food on a plate or in a bowl, first.

Don’t use metal utensils on your non-stick pots and pans, as it can scratch the non-stick coating and then start leaking that stuff into your food. Use wood or silicon utensils, instead.

Metal utensils are fine with stainless steel or cast iron pots and pans.

If you can afford it, I highly recommend investing in a good cast iron pan. They’re durable, get better with age, and can last you literal decades. Just don’t wash them with soap.

If you like rice, buy a rice cooker! There are some pretty simple, cheap, compact models out there that make rice perfectly every time. My roommate and I made it through quarantine with my little rice cooker.

Not technically cooking per se but try having a snack before you go grocery shopping. If you’re not hungry there’s less chance you’ll make impulse purchases and stick to your list - especially if you’re on a budget.

If multiple people are eating a meal, then one person should not be doing all the cooking by themselves! Even if you’re “not a good cook” you can chop or peel vegetables, fetch ingredients, wash dishes or clean counters as you go to make the after-meal clean up a little easier. Preparing meals is always more enjoyable when you do it together.

I went to first uni class of the year and it was v nice, v cute and enthusiastic class.. one girl got so excited about the first assignment she said 'i don't know what to do!! I want to jump around but I have to be a human!!!' and my tutor was like 'you have a stim toy right?' and she held up a big fluffy pen lol

it was v sweet. and afterwards a clearly very autistic and queer individual walked up to me, introduced themselves, gave me their number and ran off.. except their number isn't working on my phone lol

it was so good and nice but the whole time I just felt sort of sad? and I went to the boardgame store and chatted with the guy there for a while, then went to the bookstore and got some amazing looking books.. now I'm sitting on the ground in the city, I'm ok just feeling weird.. I also kept feeling like I was in a lift, I could feel the ground shaking and moving, it was so real I almost asked someone hey is the ground like, moving rn? but I figured it's not cause nobody else was reacting lol

i am once again begging people to learn how to recommend things. i’ve been seeing a couple posts lately about a league of their own that have honestly done a really poor job of selling it, not least because none of them actually say what it’s about

one essentially said “you guys need to watch it because it’s got queer woc, and if you don’t watch it, we’ll never get a season 2” which is coming at it backwards. why do i care about getting another season of a show i haven’t watched yet?

another said “if you liked our flag means death you should watch this, because they’re both gay and about real-life historical figures” which, while technically true, is missing the point of both shows. ofmd is a comedy about pirates in the early 16th century. a league of our own, from what i can tell (i had to google it, because none of those posts mention any of this) seems to be a drama about baseball in the early 20th century. what about those is similar

do we really need to keep having this discussion about not tokenizing stories?? because it does it a disservice to boil it down to “it’s good and you should watch it because it’s Diverse”

it’s like if i said, “hmm, i want to go clothes shopping, my closet feels stale,” and you told me, “i have just the thing,” and tried to give me a blank cardboard box with something inside. “what is it?” i ask, and you tell me, “it’s purple.”

but is it a top? pants? i don’t really wear skirts so i wouldn’t be interested. is it a turtleneck? i like those sometimes, but it’s really hard to pull them off. what material is it? i have sensory issues and i don’t like polyester. what if we’re not the same size and it doesn’t fit?

ahaha no it's usually just because i'm going back through a tag looking for something else! i recently went back through my entire "my posts" tag (which contains...1468 posts, dear lord) and while i was doing that saw several posts that i felt like reblogging for whatever reason. so it's usually not that i remember them and go looking for them on purpose, it's that i come across them incidentally in the course of doing something else.

if you want to know why i reblog them after coming across them, 1) usually i don't! you are seeing the tip of the iceberg lol, and 2) it's mostly because it's hard to resist the "sooo true, bestie" urge, even when the bestie is just...yourself.

#fave spotting #alfred burke #the man who finally died #public eye #frank marker #@thisbluespirit #(i know you like to see his face) #alas he has no closeups #and as mentioned isn't even credited‚ tho his character is called Heinrich in dialogue #actually quite a lot of the cast go uncredited in this‚ even those (like alfie) who have more than one scene and get actual dialogue #just the key players are named in the opening titles #like quite a few other british films of this era this was based on a short tv serial‚ also written by the films writer Lewis Greifer and #produced by ATV in 1959; of that series the only returning cast member was Nigel Green‚ who'd actually played the role Alfie #does here on tv‚ but was promoted to a slightly larger supporting part for the film. according to wiki (ikr‚ but why would they lie..) the #series actually exists in the archives in its entirety! alas.. we'll probably never get to see it‚ particularly now network have gone #speaking of‚ i had actually seen this before some years ago but when the news came thru about network this was one of the things i decided #to try and pick up before the stock is all gone; i was tempted to the blu ray release both for the chance to see Alfie in hd (albeit #briefly) and bc one of the extra features is a fascinating sounding episode of Drama 64 starring Stanley Baker #more on that i suspect when i get round to watching it
