Severed Ties Part One: Why You Left
Tumblr media
summary: You've had enough, whatever was once between you may be lost. You're leaving him. gn reader, no pronouns or y/n used. Part Two: Why You Came Back feat: Brynjolf, Miraak, Erandur, Teldryn, Vilkas, Farkas, Rune, Arnbjorn warnings: bit longer than usual.
There was no way around it - Brynjolf just didn’t have enough time for you. You clung to those fleeting moments you got with him, rushed and infrequent as they were. A hurried kiss or a half eaten dinner forgotten when a recruit brought a shipping manifest were the most you could hope for. Days would pass where you hardly saw one another. Between training, recruiting, scheduling, and handling conflict you became strangers.  After what felt like ages spent missing him you realized that holding on so tightly was only hurting you both. All the guilt over dates cut short and apologies for missing anniversaries were causing too much damage. You had to let go. Maybe a day would come when you settled into your new role and Brynjolf’s hectic schedule afforded him some free time to spend together. Someday there would be less tasks to complete and you could love one another properly.  Under all the arguments you could see his relief, the same one you’d felt as soon as making the decision to let him go. With tears in your eyes you promised to come back to him when the time was right, though you wondered if a time would ever truly exist.  "I'm sorry, love. I've got so many important things to do. Maybe some other time, yeah?"
With each day that passed Miraak drifted further from you. His thirst for power, that never ending climb for more power had edged you entirely out of his thoughts. The whirlwind romance you’d experienced in the beginning faded into fond memories. You often reflected upon those early days as you went about your solitary business. You’d given up so much for one another but forgetting you seemed rather easy for him. You’d begun to feel like one of his books, gathering dust on a shelf he hadn’t revisited in a long while.  He was too absorbed in his latest breakthrough to notice you packing your things. A hasty agreement with Mora was all it took to secure your safe passage back to Nirn, a lifeline to who you’d been before falling in love with him. A hand brushed over his back was your only goodbye to the man you’d sacrificed the world for. As you walked away from him you couldn’t help but wonder how long it would take Miraak to notice your absence. With a heavy heart you admitted to yourself that you had no clue, would he notice? When he did, would he even care? "I don't have time now, My Dragon. If we mean to seize this moment we must be prepared. I just don't have time."
Erandur could not stop himself from idolizing you. In the beginning you thought it would fade, that perhaps as he settled into your relationship he would drop all the honorifics and adoration. Over time it began to wear on you; the reverence in his tone or the way he gazed like you personally hung all the stars in the sky. When he continued seeing you as a figure the pressure only compounded. The longer it dragged on the more you felt like you had a disciple instead of a partner. All of Skyrim saw you as a mythical creature - the Dragonborn, Slayer of Alduin, champion of nearly every daedra you’d happened across. You could withstand that position from random citizens and court members but not your partner. With him you simply wanted to be a person. Babbling your explanation through tears, his unspoken questions were the ones that wounded you the deepest. He merely accepted your words with a solemn nod. You loved Erandur more than you could say but you couldn’t stand the pressure any longer, needing to find somewhere you could merely exist without the titles weighing you down.  "Of course I want you to be happy my beloved. You are my savior, after all. I am willing to do anything for you, all you must do is say the word."
Parting from Teldryn was like trying to tear a limb from your body. Your bones ached with a need for rest while he wanted nothing more than to keep moving, creating a rift between you. He refused to settle anywhere, no breaks lasting longer than a few days before you were in a new hold. You grew tired of tavern meals and stiff beds, the pack weighing you down. You needed a break. Even the slightest mention of going home upset Teldryn. He’d remind you that he was a sellsword not a steward. There was so much out there to see, so many bandit camps to clear out and treasures waiting for the right set of adventurers to find them. It was tough not to be hurt by the harshness of his words - were your years together trekking across continents not enough? Even worse, was his refusal to find a home simply an unwillingness to commit to you?  You left him exactly where you’d found him all those years ago - planted in the same seat in his favorite tavern, drink in hand. You tried to explain yourself but he was hearing none of it, tone bitter when he bid you farewell. "I'll be happy to rejoin you when you realize I'm right. Free of charge, of course. For old times' sake. Don't wait too long, though or I might get a better offer."
Vilkas knew precisely how to get under your skin. He knew the exact buttons to press in an argument - looking down his nose at you, the harshness of his words, and that cool, uncaring tone his voice adopted that made you wonder if he’d ever truly loved you. It seemed that the more your work lives overlapped the more frequent your arguments became until all the love between you was lost. Tears blurred your vision when you glared across the room at him. He was so collected, not a hair out of place while sobs burned at your throat. Your heart ached with a need to get back to how you’d been before the Companions had taken over your life but Vilkas was too set in his ways, too willing to argue and never open to compromise.  Wordlessly, you gathered up each possession he’d left in your quarters. He didn’t comment on the careless way you dumped it back into his empty bedroom but you felt him watching every step you took. You hated his silence. It was the only time you wished he’d raise his voice and push back but he said nothing, content to watch you separate the lives you’d intertwined ages ago. You wanted him to fight, that just this once he would fight for you.  "You must stop giving up so easily, Harbinger. We're all counting on you. Or did Kodlak hand the reigns to the wrong person after all?"
Despite all the fun you had together Farkas didn’t take anything seriously. You fell in love with his laughter and the nonchalant way he viewed the world but after years you wanted more. You wanted a life together, somewhere you could both call home and escape from the troubles of your Guild. As always, he simply brushed it off - why waste all that money buying a house when you had Jorrvaskr? Why bother with a wedding when everyone already knew you were together?  You couldn’t get him to conceive that there was a life you could live together that didn’t revolve around the Companions. You saw the conflict in his eyes and the way his words stumbled over one another when he reminded you that it was all he had ever known.  With a heavy heart you patted his hand, hoping that someday you could find a happy medium. You could no longer spend every day in Jorrvaskr - you loved your fellow Companions but the years passing by had you yearning for peace, something softer for your legacy. Farkas let your fingers slip through his when he let you go.  "Seems like an awful waste, doesn't it? Things don't have to change. We're having fun, aren't we? Why go and mess it up?"
Rune’s interest in his past had always intrigued you. That stone, the mysterious stories, the parents he’d never met. It had all the hallmarks of a protagonist in some old legend. You listened to his theories for nights on end and helped him search through old books of familial records, having fun until you realized how deeply his need for the truth ran. It startled you to realize that he was unable to fathom a future for himself, unwilling to think of anything but the mysteries of his past.  It left you in limbo. You loved him enough to hope for more but acknowledged how stuck in his ways he’d become. Rune was confused when you explained it to him, tears in his eyes when you pleaded with him to come back to you when he found the answers he held above all else.  "What do you mean - you're leaving me? We don't need to think ahead when we have right now. Can't you wait a little longer?"
Arnbjorn’s love for his late wife was admirable, though somewhat intimidating. No one doubted how deeply he’d loved her but they were glad to see the small changes. Months had passed when he stopped wearing his ring, your heart leaping at the minute signs that he was getting closer to moving on. Your little crush on him grew into so much more when he approached you, getting you hooked from the first touch. It felt like Astrid haunted every step you took closer to him. When he kissed you you wondered who he thought of, whose name was on the tip of his tongue when he bit his lip. When your body pressed to his and he slapped a hand over his mouth your stomach soured with the realization that he was not only thinking of you. It was evident in small moments - when he couldn’t meet your gaze or he stopped himself mid sentence. Your blood chilled when you realized he was going to call you her name. You didn't want to blame him but it hurt in a way you'd never experienced. It drove you mad. You retracted from him, wrapped up in insecurity and resentment when you broke off whatever was between you two. You couldn’t keep questioning his intentions for you, refusing to be a replacement for the wife he’d lost.  "You aren't her - I know you aren't her! I don't want you to be her - why won't you just listen to me?"

Afterword: Will there be a sequel to GHD?
After almost four years, GOL HAH DOV is finally a finished project. 50 chapters, just shy of 375K words (about 4-5 full novels’ worth of writing) and I don’t want to know how many hours of furiously typing, here we are at the finish line. As we started getting near the end a few people asked whether I was going to write a sequel, but the answer was too complex to put in an author’s note, so I thought I’d discuss it in more detail here.
Unfortunately, the short version of this is probably not, but let me explain why.
So, there are many things that could go in a sequel. Off the top of my head, I’ve yet to write about: the events of the Dawnguard DLC. The truth about Chrysanthe’s past. How they contend with Hermaeus Mora, who is still gunning for them. How the civil war unfolds when the First Dragonborn looks at both the Empire and Stormcloaks and says ‘nah, I’ll make my own faction’. How the Thalmor react to this. Miraak’s rise to power when he’s not allowed to use his mind control powers, and Chrysanthe’s general struggle to keep Miraak on a morally good path.
All of this could definitely make for another longfic but what I don’t have is any sort of romantic development. The trouble with writing a soulmates fic is that once the couple have overcome their personal issues, there’s very little further tension. Chrysanthe and Miraak actually got together very early in the fic (about chapter 12 out of 50) and the rest has been about them learning each other, becoming more intertwined… but I’m not really sure how they can get more intertwined, after the events of GHD. There are many external points of tension (politics, Thalmor, daedra) but there’s nothing internal - only Miraak’s dubious morality, but we already know that he’ll change his course for Chrysanthe, so what else is there to add?
Essentially, I can’t see how to further develop the relationship, and to me the romantic tension is what makes a fic worth writing. Without it, I just know that even if I started a GHD sequel, I wouldn’t have the enthusiasm to see it through to the end. Now that may change, and I might think of something new… but for the time being, I’m going to put GHD down and focus on other things.
Those other things are: 1) The Tav/Astarion Baldur’s Gate 3 longfic I’ve started, Tooth for a Tooth, which has all my attention at the minute. It’s darker than GHD but the protagonist has the same steely-stoic paladin vibe, so if you liked Chrysanthe you might like him too 2) A while ago I posted a fic idea in which the Last Dragonborn (Chrysanthe, or a totally new character) ends up in the past with pre-Apocrypha Miraak. Again this is a longfic that I’m not sure I really have the spoons for, but I’d say I’m more likely to write this than a GHD sequel 3) Various other bits and pieces, unfinished oldfics, etc.
I know that might be disappointing for some to read, but I hope my reasons make sense at least! And I hope that you still enjoy GOL HAH DOV as its own piece of work, and come back to read anything else that I might write in the future. Thank you again for coming on this Skyrim adventure with me!

pssspsps *hands you my skyrim werewolf oc*
(cring lore dump below so my brain becomes normal again)
nirin's my bosmer werewolf dragonborn oc :D!! she's skilled in archery; sneak; and fire magic!
she's selectively mute!! and uses sign language; as well as a (very) limited version of dragon language to those who can understand it; namely paarthurnax; miraak and the greybeards.
she's also feral; an absolutel creacher; lives in the woods; and rarely interacts w/ society;
nirin; or 'nir in' is dragon language for hunt master!! its a name she came up for herself after paarthurnax suggested it. she doesn't actually remember her original name;
i like to think that when the events of the games start; or the moment someone is at the right place at the right time and gets picked to become the 'hero' of the games; they forget their name and a majority of their past life. she still retains her personality; skills and any uhhh;; adverse;; effects of her past!! she just can't remember it! one of these adverse effects being that she's a werewolf (meaning i have to use console commands to make her a werewolf immediately on every playthrough lmao).
as her name suggests she's VERY good at hunting! that's her full time occupation basically lmao. she sometimes visits the drunken huntsman in whiterun to 'sell' her catches, but its rlly just the concerned shopkeepers giving her normal people food and supplies to help her survive.
she has 2 main followers! lydia and miraak.
lydia is her first friend (technically caretaker) in skyrim. i like to think that jarl balgruuf assigned her to nirin out of concern for this Child being the dragonborn and tasked to slay Alduin of all beings, so lydia was tasked at making sure she becomes a well-adjusted person and doesn't bite as much sdfdffdjkl. lydia taught her the basics of reading and writing!! :D they parted ways a bit further into nirin's journey, specifically when she travelled to solstheim
oK SO a BIG part of nirin's character is her struggle w/ her dragonborn identity and the burden of her dragon soul. she 100% rejects the call to adventure, HARD. i hc that the dragon souls a dragonborn absorbs Stays with them in more ways than just making them more powerful; like,, the dragons' personalities, wills and their desire for domination stays with her, with the latter especially getting worse the more dragon souls she absorbs and it certainly doesn't mesh well w/ her werewolf nature fskfs. she comes to paarthurnax often for advice and companionship, but there's only so much he can do, seeing as he only has one (1) dragon soul and never interacts w/ human society.
this is where miraak comes in!!! :DD i've always thought the fact he's the First Dragonborn is Very cool, and that he can have some very interesting dynamics w/ the Last (nirin)!! like, the fact he's been dragonborn for thousands of years!! has killed MANY dragons before and very skilled w/ using the thu'um for combat!! in her story, miraak acts as nirin's (reluctant) mentor. she initially pulled him out of Apocrypha so he could take her place in defeating Alduin, but because of permanent injuries and a curse inflicted by Hermeaus Mora, he's been locked out of Sovngarde and isn't rlly in peak fighting shape to take on a giant dragon god. so he's stuck trying to make sure the last dragonborn doesn't die before she saves the world fjsflkdsjf.
nirin isn't happy about this, miraak is even mORE disgruntled about this.
in conclusion, nobody is happy in this story except for me >:)
if you've read this far uhhhhhh, ty for listening to my unhinged brainrot rant and also i am sorry fjsdlkfjsldkj

Ok hear me out
Chrysanthe as a dad. (+Miraak)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I actually had these finished a long, long long time ago but never uploaded them xD so here they are! GHD Timeskip!AU featuring Chry and Miraak as dads. How wholesome. This was all just an excuse to draw family shenanigans with Chry and Miraak sksksk
(the first two panel did not happen btw. it was a joke from the server xD Chry would be So Not Thrilled to know their baby is stolen and their parents killed by Miraak.)
After the whole Alduin Business they decided to get a baby from an orphanage! Hooray! I have never actually decided what the baby's name should be. Maybe @99corentine you'd like to choose one for them? 👀
And also have these two where. Chry has like 4 babies because we thought ''hey let's give them MORE'' and boom.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Info about the babies below!
Basically the Nord+Altmer kid is their lovechild(as in their biological son) gifted by Mara(cuz you know. they gay. can't really give birth.) Chry & Miraak got really confused but still kinda rolled with it. This baby has both Chry & Miraak's traits, having slightly pointy ears and a mix of white + golden hair, and has mostly Miraak's fight-y personality but still listens to Chry if he scolds them. They are Miraak's favorite and so they feel proud about it.
The Snow Elf, however, was made bc I accidentally misinterpreted @/mellowscrolls' convo and thought Erandur somehow got another child from Mara and was told to give them to Chry xD they are very shy, and clings to Chry the most. Miraak scares them a little due to his ominous aura lol They also like Erandur a lot! cuz he was the one that took care of them first hehe
The HERMAEUS MORA ONE, HOWEVER, is there simply and solely bc HM wanted to mess with Chry & Miraak. So after he heard that they got so many babies, for some reason, snatched/created a baby himself and corrupted it with his daedric dark magic or something. and just. left it at Chry's front door lmao Chry and Miraak did NOT take them well at first. Miraak in particular, as he refuses to even acknowledge them. Chry was afraid of it, thinking they could be HM's pawn. But, this kid was, in fact, just a kid. They are corrupted by Mora, but they were actually not influenced by him at all. They still maintain their toddler mind. And so Chry refused to kill them, as much as Miraak suggested to.
Chry starts to warm up to this half-daedra a little, but he is always unable to stare into their face, which is covered with numerous Hermaeus' eyes. Does HM have the ability to spy on them through those eyes? Nobody knows. They can also summon tentacles, which freaked Chry & Miraak out very much, so this ability was never brought back out again.
Because of both parent being wary of them, this baby is more mature and understands how different they are and does not blame either of them. They are actually a very sweet kid and takes care of all their siblings. But they know how much of a ''monster'' they are. They know about HM, they even hear his whispers to hurt Chry & Miraak when they sleep, and so they despise him, even if he was their ''creator''. They love their new parents and would never hurt them.
As they grew, maybe Miraak finally took pity and hand-carved a wodden mask for them to wear outside. They treasure this gift with their whole being as it was the first time the nord father cared for them.
Chry needs rest.

Miraak wants comfort but can't fuckin ask, the drabble
Escaping Apocrypha was his deepest desire that tore apart his very soul with a hunger of countless millennia. He knew it would take time before he could readjust to the place he once called home, however he couldn't have expected a different type of hunger to bubble to the surface.
At first it was an accident. The Dragonborn stumbling back and nearly falling onto him. Miraak caught him but something about the scenario clung to his skin under his robes and armor.
Even when he was handed something like a new staff or scroll and just barely touching the other man's fingertips... Why did it give him goosebumps?
"Touch starvation," the Dragonborn said while setting up camp, "I've read about it once or twice. Though your case might be the most severe in..well ever."
Miraak wrinkled his brows in thought and quietly sat down to build a fire pit.
"Shit..I think that last Forswarn attack ripped up my tent. It's got holes in it.." His ears were slightly drooped.
The Atmoran glanced at the Elven Dragonborn curiously, "Can you not sew?"
"No. I was too occupied studying magic and how to use a sword. I've tried but nothing stays together." He shrugged.
Miraak blinked and lit the fire, "So that means we only have one tent then."
Keryth started to set up the tent and sighed, "I know it's inconvenient. I can sleep outside if it makes you uncomfortable-"
"-Thats too dangerous if you ask me." If he thought about it, Atmorans and Snow Elves had a similar range of body heat. Yet such a notion hadn't crossed his mind in ages.
"You're sure you don't mind?" He asked one more time. Reading Miraak's expressions was a bit difficult for him since his resting face was rather..angry.
"What you are does not bother me Keryth. I've said it before. Does it bother you to lay with an Atmoran?"
The mer's ears shot right up at Miraak's horrible phrasing and his face turned a bright shade of pink. Even the tips of his ears were flushed and Miraak took small note of it.
"No! I mean..I don't mind really. I guess I just thought you'd prefer to be on your own.."
Miraak looked into the fire, unable to find the right words at first. "I do not wish to be." It was all he could manage to say with his pride intact.
The air grew quiet as the two slowly set up camp while unable to balance idle chit chat. Keryth summoned his familiar to stand guard and crawled inside the tent to his bed roll.
Miraak knew the tent was large enough for both of them, but noticed his body hesitated. He quietly sighed through his nose and crawled inside. Keryth was already curled up in his bedroll, assumably dozing from some mixture he took to help him sleep.
The Atmoran crawled into his own bedroll and tried to get comfortable. He was thankful that the still had a wide array of sounds to lull him to sleep. However, their conversation from earlier rung through Miraak's mind like a bell.
Touch starved.
He glanced at the smaller mer who slept with his back towards him. It wasn't spiteful, Keryth just tended to fall asleep on his side. Miraak could hear his inner instincts whisper to him to act on his greed. Grab him. Pull him close.
Miraak shook his head and sighed. He ran his hand through his braids and glanced over in vain. Then, he perked up with an idea. As slowly and quietly as he could, Miraak moved closer so their backs would touch. Just the mere sensation alone placated him and gave him goosebumps for a few minutes.
He had messed up many things in his long lifetime, especially bonds. The greed of his soul was going to remain in check so he wouldn't self sabotage this one.
Unable to keep his eyes open any longer, he drifted off. Unbeknownst to him, the smaller elf flipped and flopped in his sleep as usual. He only stopped when he found something to lay up against. Miraak slept with a small smile.

The loved & the forgotten pt26
Part 25 here
———
Kaidan: *rubbing his face as the morning sun hits his eyes* you mean to tell me, we’re actually going to be travelling with and looking after, the, Mannimarco, king of worms? A literal lich king?
Nerevar: *watching as miraak sits mannimarco down on a blanket by the dragons as he saddles them up, taking in how the high elfs timid stature and feeble frame shivers in the cold breeze*
Mannimarco: *blue eyes wide, taking in his first sunrise in centuries, and feeling a warmth fill his heart he’d taken for granted so long ago as auriel welcomes him back into his light with open arms* I… I’m f-free.. *voice quivering and body trembling as tears roll down his face*
Nerevar: I think we can trust him. *smiles watching voryn dry mannimarcos face with his sleeve before sitting with him to give him comfort* I hope he travels well, he’s too weak to walk.
???: TALIIIIII!!!
Nerevar: speaking of which. *turns around to see vivienne tied up and squirming over taliesins shoulder* This seems a bit excessive.
Taliesin: I. Am not letting him run into trouble again! And if this is the only way to stop him then so be it!
Vivienne: I won’t run into trouble! You’re being mean!
Taliesin: *slaps him on the ass making him squeal and kick* Keep up the attitude and I’ll give you mean alright! *hands him to kaidan* let’s get going.
Kaidan: *looks down at his bound sun and sky skinned lover* Colour?
Vivienne: … *pouts* green.
Kaidan: *snickers* Tsk, my you are in a bratty mood~ *shifts him over his shoulder patting his butt* So we’re getting married at the temple then yeah? Then having a second one under the eyes of mara?
Taliesin: that’s the plan. *hooks his bag onto the dragons saddle*
The dragon: This. Is. Humiliating. Reduced to winged horses.
Sahrotaar: *snaps at them* we serve our dovahkiin as he serves the last dovahkiin… though looking at him now. I wonder how miraak lost. *watches Kaidan walk by with vivienne over his shoulder*
Miraak: He’s. A lot more powerful than he looks.
Kaidan: oh yeah he is. And a lot more mischievous than he looks as well. *suddenly flings vivienne over a dragons saddle tying him there* No more runnin off for you*
Vivienne: *whines and flails* my hairs gonna be a mess if I fly like this!
Voryn: I’ll brush it when we land iam leyrehjiag (our poet) *stands with nerevars help and slides his chitin helm over his head, whispering so only he can hear* thoughts?…
Nerevar: *matching his whisper* those aren’t any ordinary reavers. I recognised a few from raven rock.
Voryn: And the temple begging to intrude on our sessions with vivienne.
Nerevar: You think they’re the ones who accosted him in the street during his panic attack?
Voryn: it’s a possibility.
Nerevar: how many have you sensed?
Voryn: 5. They’re all waiting to follow us.
Nerevar: will Lucien be alright here on his own? What if they use him as bait?
Nerevar: *ear twitching hearing dumzbathar talking to Lucien deep below the earth* he’ll be fine. He’s in good company.
Kaidan: *calls out from his dragon as he helps Taliesin up* Oi! You two coming?
Voryn: *looks down to see mannimarco missing, now already safely seated with miraak on his dragon* Ah- yes let’s get going.
Kaidan: Fock yes! Let’s get married! *slaps vivienne on the ass as his dragon takes flight*
Vivienne: KAIDAAAAN!!!!
*several hours later*
Vivienne: *free from his lovers restraints and now seated comfortably on a cushion in the temple, sighing as voryn does his hair for the ceremony* I wish Lucien decided to come back for the wedding.
Voryn: shhh he’ll be there for your one back in skyrim. *pulls more of his hair back from his face pinning it with a carved ebony comb* don’t lose this okay? It was the first gift Neht gave me when I revealed who I was to him.
Vivienne: *reaches up touching it* it’s beautiful… you never talk much about your life before finding neht again. You said you related to what I’ve been through though?…
Voryn: Mhm… life is cruel when your own skin betrays you. Before coming to nerevar, my eye was once a birthmark. An omen, people called it. I was ostracised, abused… used… so I hid my face. I stopped talking. I accepted life was forever to be cruel to me. Until the night I planned to end it all. Azura herself came to me and told me who I was… She told me to seek Neht out. That he wouldn’t turn from me. And when I saw his face… it all came flooding back. And I felt ashamed… but more than anything I felt pain. His eyes were dull, his smile was fake… he was ready to take his own life rather than continue living forever.
Vivienne: then- he saw you?
Voryn: I got caught without my helmet by temple guards when I thought I was alone… I was dragged into nerevars office and thrown to his feet… it was a blur, but all I could see was him… and the next thing I knew we were tangled in each others arms beneath the sheets. We cried, we laughed, we kissed, but we never let each other go. *finishes his hair and gently lifts his chin to start his face markings* and it’ll be the same for you with them. *glances out the door to see nerevar giving Taliesin & Kaidan a run down on dunmer marital rites*
Vivienne: I-…
Voryn: *pauses for a moment expecting the younger mer to express doubt or concern* …
Vivienne: *smiles* I know it will.
Voryn: *blinks in surprise before smiling and planting a soft kiss to his forehead, heart feeling at ease seeing how far he’d come in accepting his self worth* you’ll be loved by them forever. *gently strokes his cheek with his thumb before resuming his makeup* I’ll try to avoid making green this time.
Vivienne: green- *remembers he’s gold and blue* …Oh, uh. Hm.
*a few minutes later*
Kaidan: *kneeling on a cushion* how much longer do we have to wait?
Taliesin: *kneeling beside him* as long as we have to… are your legs going numb too?
Kaidan: nah they fell asleep 20 minutes ago. I want to see him is all… they’re taking their time, I’m sure he looks gorgeous.
Taliesin: he always looks gorgeous but… you’re right… *nervously grips his robes* I want to remember what he looks like in this moment forever…
Kaidan: *reaches over gently taking his hand in his and giving it a squeeze* me too. I know I’ll never forget how handsome you look right now too~
Taliesin: *smiles then huffs looking away with a cute pout* you’d better not or I’ll never forgive you~
Kaidan: Oh don’t you worry, I’m going to be spending every chance I get memorising your beautiful bo-
Nerevar: *opens the door suddenly and steps out of the way as voryn enters with vivienne*
Vivienne: *dressed in rather simple robes more fitting for a meeting or party compared to a wedding, but still looking beautiful and comfortable regardless. His hair held back from his face showing marital markings and the sigil of house indoril on his forehead in place of the doubled ‘Ve’ that was velothi turned Vivec.* c-can I kiss them yet? *blushes looking at his two awaiting husbands*
Voryn: *chuckles ushering him to his seat between them* shhh patience Hla aka. *sets him down between his husbands and steps back before taking his seat beside nerevar*
Nerevar: *smiling watching the three stare at one another, unable to take their eyes off of their beloved* usually this ceremony begins with seeking the blessing of the good daedra but- *blinks and looks at the scripture before him as a little spider slides down a thread and lands on the page tapping its front legs* …Well then we have our blessing! Let’s begin! *gently lifts the spider from the page and sets them aside before lifting it up and reading the rites of the Good daedra, the honouring of their ancestors and the great houses, and giving the blessings of houses indoril and dagoth as witnesses to their union* May those near to our hearts and far in person be here with us in this day. *smiles at vivienne swearing he could see a flash of Vivec’s eyes within his* and may their love be felt amongst you as you become one in this union.
Vivienne: *face hot and flushed as he places his husbands wedding bands on them as they do the same for him* c-can I kiss them now?
Nerevar: *chuckles* go ahead.
Taliesin & Kaidan: FINALLY! *both embrace Vivienne, falling to the ground with him in a tender loving kiss*
*several hours later*
Vivienne: *dancing with voryn, inigo and Taliesin as the entirety of raven rock joins in with the celebration, music and laughter filling the air mixing with chatter and exclamations of celebration*
Nerevar: *sitting with Kaidan & sero, glancing at the crowd as they dance* enjoying married life yet?
Kaidan: *laughs* absolutely! I hope this feeling lasts forever. *glances over to see vivienne & Taliesin sharing a kiss before the dance separates them again in the rhythm* I hope I can make him happy forever.
Sero: you will, he’s absolutely smitten with you- *glances at the crowd and chokes on his drink catching Geldis gesturing to him* Oop gotta go! *gets up and runs after him*
Nerevar: *chuckles watching him leave* He’s right. He’ll love you forever if you let him… Where’s miraak and our new friend?
Kaidan: oh, they retired for the evening already. Mannimarco couldn’t keep his eyes open and miraak was worried the noise would remind him too much of the screams that tortured him to madness in cold harbour.
Nerevar: understandable… I don’t particularly trust either of them yet. But… If vivienne does I’ll continue to give them a chance.
Kaidan: aye. I think they’ll be alrig- *blinks seeing vivienne & Taliesin running to him as the next song starts* Whoo boy. Let’s try giving this dancing thing a go again. *gets up in time for them to grab him and drag him into the crowd with them*
Nerevar: Good luck! *laughs watching them go before smiling as voryn approaches and sits beside him* worn out yet?
Voryn: hm? Me? Gods no~ it’s your job to wear me out~
Nerevar: I thought it was your job to wear me out though?~
Voryn: *smiles pouring himself a glass of wine* it’s not a job if you enjoy doing it~ *sips it and stares at the crowd before narrowing his gaze at some shifty figures moving where the light can’t see* more of them…
Nerevar: the rebel tong? Or the ones tailing us?…
Voryn: the ones who were tailing us.
Nerevar: I’ll inform the guard-
Voryn: no. It’ll only cause panic… let them enjoy their night. *sets his wine down and glances off to a darkened corner nearby as he adjusts one of his rings, turning it to show a hidden capsule filled with poison as a signal to his awaiting servants* Let me handle this.

After reading @99corentine 49th chapter, I thought about a lot of references about Chry's past. There will be spoilers about KFP2, Blue Eye Samurai and the fic GOL HAH DOV, but mind you : if a piece of media isn't enjoyable because you got spoiled, then maybe it isn't well made (unless it's an Agatha Christie but the whole point of her novels was the mystery) so bear with me.
In chapter 49, Chry wants to know about his past after a strange and stressful encounter with Elenwen. He tries to return to the place where he first awoke, one year before the events of this chapter, but without any success. He upset for several things, for his loss of memory of course but also the fact that he might have a family and even a spouse (with his ring at the marriage finger) that didn't go after him.
Firstly, there's the feeling of emptiness and shame about his worthlessness, how he compares himself to Miraak, someone who was important even as a pawn of Hermaeus Mora, when he was just good enough to be left behind by his supposed relatives and be used as a thrall by a cruel man in a foreign country. Chry feels like that all the glory he had in one year, even after killing Alduin, was nothing, like a fraud, that he's just worthless (these thoughts happens just when he has the post prophecy blues, like Teldryn said, so yeah Chry might feel depressed). That his past is was he is at core. Which isn't true but he believes it and that's something a lot of us can relate to (golden child syndrome, school failure, broken dreams, childhood trauma, etc.).
Fortunately, Miraak reminds him that Chry was the one who believed he could be a better version of himself, going to tyrant to leader (even though he still is at the head of a cult lmao), that his actions helped and saved so many people and that he's a great hypocrite for telling others they can be better when he tell himself the contrary.
It reminds us ofc of Paarthunax's iconic wise words "What is better ? To be born good or to overcome your evil nature though great efforts?" But I feel it echoes better to Miraak's case because he was in fact evil and became a bit more grayer thought the story, whereas Chry has forgotten his past and was just lost and miserable. In this case I was reminded of this sentence in Kung Fu Panda 2 : when Po discovers the calcined remains of his childhood village (that he forgot about because of PTSD), he's feeling sad and ashamed that his birth was in bloodshed and suffering, but the soothsayer who saved him says to him "Your story may have not such a happy beginning, but it doesn't make you who you are. It is the rest of your story. Who you choose to be." And that's pretty much Chry's case : he awoke in a place of suffering and when he left, he wanted to have a life of his own and to be greater than what he was before, to be in control. Man the parallels between him and Miraak are even greater ksjsjsks
Then let's return to the family problem. Even better (or worse idk), the spouse problem. If Chry had any family left in the Summerset Isles, they didn't care to go after him when he was gone missing.
There are several theories about why Chry wasn't found, if he ever had relatives : the first thing is that he's of mixed heritage because he has a greater physical strength than all the other altmer altogether and most importantly striking blue eyes ; altmer people don't have blue eyes* and it's a great deal for almost every Alinor citizens to be of pure lineage, so imagine having in your family a very unusual child with characteristics a little bit too close to Nords'. You just want to get rid of it to avoid shame on your family.
(*nota bene : in Skyrim game, altmer people only can have amber, golden or emerald eyes, whereas in ESO you can have them have blue eyes, but we're following Skyrim's logic here)
So if we follow this theory, Chry's supposed family wanted to get rid of this problematic scion, either by banishment... or marriage. A marriage that didn't go well at some point. And that's when I got reminded of Blue Eye Samurai (incredible series on Netflix, go watch it). Some context : in the Edo period (17th century in Japan), we follow the revenge journey of Mizu, a lonely samurai with mixed heritage (a Japanese mother and an unknown white father) with striking blue eyes. These eyes disgraced them because it was considered demonic at this time in Japan (like in ancient Greece, blue eyes were either vulgar or bad omens).
At some point in their story, Mizu finds their mother who they thought died years ago in a fire. She wants them to marry an old samurai who, like them, is a castaway, so they can in some way redeem themselves for their shameful life and at least be a good bride. They get married and although Mizu is a bit reluctant at first (because of how are viewed their eyes), them and the samurai fall in love with each other and have lovely years together as an odd couple. But it falls apart when Mizu wants to show their incredible battle skills to their husband, who gets scared and angry, calling them a monster, because deep down he still had this bias that blue eyes are demonic and bringer of destruction (an onryo). That he only loved Mizu because they were behaving despite their mixed heritage.
He betrays them, bringing mercenaries to kill them and Mizu, deeply hurt and enraged, kills everyone and run away to pursue their revenge of getting rid of the four white men who lives secretly in Japan. But I digress
Maybe something similar happened to Chry, that when he discovered his thu'um, he got shamed by his family/spouse and he went (or ran away) to Skyrim to search for answers or got abandoned here. Maybe we'll know and maybe we won't because there's still almost two chapters left for the fic to be finished and I am not well.
Anyway I had fun doing these parallels! Theories and psychanalyses my beloved.

WYGTYA lines
@sheirukitriesfandom tagged me in this most wonderful tag game and I am so happy! Thank you for the tag :D Since WYGTYA is my longest work, I'm going to include lines from this fic of mine that I love so very much <3
A line from your fic that makes you laugh (not really a line, but it made me laugh while I wrote chapter 13)
“What on Nirn is a rock’s weakness?” He asks, casting a calm spell to no avail.
“Scissors?” Ravonna responds, chuckling.
“You think this is a good time for jokes? Master Neloth is going to kill me if he finds out!”
“Scissors, that’s it! Big sword!” she says, the lightbulb of an idea almost visible above her head, making Talvas even more confused.
“I’m sorry, what?”
“Wait here, I know just the thing!” She immediately levitates rapidly to the main tower, doing a backflip before entering.
"But paper beats rock!" Talvas shouts, but to no avail, Ravonna is already in the tower.
A line from your fic that makes you sad (of course it's a Miraak line, from chapter 6)
“I – yes. I just – ” but he has to turn around before the tears start falling down his cheeks. ‘Be a man’s man and don’t cry. Crying is for weaklings, you soft-hearted little boy! Why can’t you be like your brother? You’re a failure!’ his father’s words ring into his ears and he shivers, wanting nothing more than the earth to swallow him. And so he climbs the stairs as fast as he can and heads straight to his chamber. There, he can finally cry for hours.
A line from your fic you're proud of (not yet part of wygtya, but it will be, this is my Ralof/Hadvar ficlet, and I'm so proud of that watetfall metaphor)
“We were drunk and happy and we thought we had our whole life ahead of us.” Ralof begins, trying to be brave himself and just let his thoughts flow into words like a river turning into a waterfall
A line for your fic you think could have been better (There are a lot of things that could have been written better, but I refuse to beat myself too much over it and embrace the fact that I am evolving and I don't want to over analyse my old writing, so this is from chapter 1, I hate this because Hjaldir's story changed a bit over time! When I wrote this, it was all unclear, and so many things have changed since then, I'm hoping my version of him now isn't too far from this brief first description of him)
“Well, Inigo, it’s actually quite a funny story. Hjaldir turned out to be a runaway pirate. He ran away from his crew because he got tired of getting seasick and stealing from innocent people. So, one night, he just ran away. Decided to become a bard and make honest coin. Ended up at my dad’s tavern.”
A line from your fic that makes you want to punch a character (from chapter 12, DAMN IT, LUCIEN, THEY WERE HAVING A MOMENT)
“Am I… interrupting something?” Lucien asks. Right, Lucien. Fenrik’s almost forgotten about him. How could he not, when all he did was sleep his hangover off?
“No!” both Dragonborn respond at the same time, letting go of each others’ hands.
A line from your fic that makes you go 'aww' (from chapter 13, Ravonna trying her best to comfort Miraak is so precious to me, she is trying her best! And this is a big moment for her, to try to be so comforting to one person who once tried to kill her. It's a lot of progress and I feel like she can see their situation from a mature point of view and she can let go of the vengeance.)
“There we go.” she says as she gets a good look of Fenrik’s teary brown eyes. “Now listen to me: no one is upset with you. I’m starting to think that it’s impossible to be. You didn’t ruin anything, okay? The self-sacrificing healer in you got out. And that’s commendable. Now, please don’t cry because I have no idea what to do with someone who is crying.” She says, making him laugh the tears away. “You’re doing great. I mean, if you need to cry, just let it out, I’ll figure something out. Maybe sparkles? Everyone loves sparkles, right?” She makes small sparkles dance around her other hand
A line from your fic that's full of symbolism (from chapter 12, not sure if this classifies as symbolism, but the snake thing is something that I am so proud of)
"I still felt my soul in there, wrapped tightly in the threatening embrace of all those dragons’ souls. I felt it trying to fight it, to escape, like a small animal trying to escape the python snake’s fatal grip."
A line from your fic that contains an Easter egg (WWDITS reference with a medieval and lore-friendly name replacement! From chapter 3)
"His name was Mikael, if I recall correctly.”
“Fucking Mikael!” Ravonna says, full of spite.
A line from your fic that's shocking (from chapter 13, MIRAAK SAID HIS FIRST ON-SCREEN BAD WORD!! Everyone was shocked hahaha)
“Holy shit!” Fenrik says as they get closer to the Silt Strider, making Ravonna’s job to cheer up much easier. She turns to him with wide eyes, and then looks at the rest of the amused fellowship. Even Teldryn was struggling not to smile.
A line from your fic you want to talk about more (from chapter 2, IT'S RUMCURIO, CAN WE PLEASE TALK ABOUT RUMCURIO I'M IN RAREPAIR HELL, MY FIC IS LITERALLY THE ONLY ONE WITH THE RUMARIN/MARCURIO TAG I'M GOING INSANE)
“Just come back alive, or I will kill you.” Marcurio says, his forehead resting against Rumarin’s, still pulling him down. It’s not the most comfortable position for Rumarin, but he won’t have it any other way. It makes him think, really. About all the ways he is going to kiss him as soon as he returns from Solstheim.
Tagging my beloved fellow writer mutuals, only if you want to participate, of course! @bougainvillea-and-saltwater @kiir-do-faal-rahhe @thelavenderelf @mareenavee @dirty-bosmer @blossom-adventures @nerevar-quote-and-star and I'm also tagging @sheirukitriesfandom back to do this challenge!

Jiraak OC relationship ask: 5, 31, 32, 38, 40, 61 and 100! (only if it’s no trouble! I’m incredibly nosy :3)
I LOVE NOSY!!! BE NOSY ALL YOU LIKE!!! Thank you so much for asking about my stupid blorbos!!! 💖🥺
💕ask game💕
5. What is something they like to do together?
Ah, many things! Firstly, I can see them enjoying learning from each other since they're both very inquisitive—Jia teaches Miraak alchemy, while he teaches her magic, mostly restoration and alteration. They like cooking together (Miraak's not there yet, but he tries okay; he loves eating though! 🥲), and they even like to stay close in comfortable silence; I promise, though, Jia loves it when listens to him humming Atmoran shanties and/or psalms from his Dragon Priest era! Having been out of Apocrypha, she knows he'd appreciate walks in the sun and picnics in the frosty woods by Heljarchen Hall, as well as gazing at the aurora and the stars at night, feeding the birds nestling in her roof tiles, tending the flowers in her garden, and generally, being reintroduced to the world with her helping him remember every single detail...🥰
31. How would they describe one another.
Due to the nature of their soul bond (which hasn't been clarified completely in my fic yet...👀) I can only imagine them describing one another the way Emily Bronte did it in Wuthering Heights, which is to say not so romantic, but with a tint of pain and inevitability instead:
“He is more myself than I am. Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same. If all else perished and he remained, I should still continue to be, and if all else remained, and we were annihilated, the universe would turn to a mighty stranger. He’s always, always in my mind; not as a pleasure to myself, but as my own being.”
32. Can they communicate private thoughts whilst in company? If so, how?
I mean,,, they can read each other's minds if they try hard enough! There's a scene in my fic where Miraak just. skims through Jia's memories and almost uncovers her worst fear (wow, rude much, Miraak? 😤). Also, they tend to recognize each other's mannerisms. For example, Jia has very specific ways she moves when she's nervous, angry, excited, etc, and Miraak, being very observant, knows how to interpret them even if she can't speak her mind at a specific moment, and vice versa.
38. What would be their ideal evening in?
So, both in Heljarchen Hall and Breezehome, Jia has purposely left a piece of her wooden canopy a little open (just so, she can't stand the cold!), so the light of the night sky always slips right into her room. I imagine an ideal evening in would be her lying in bed with Miraak, both moonbathed, talking to each other, discussing everything, good and bad, tales and real segments of their lives, until the night eventually turns into day, and instead of starlight/moonglow, they are cloaked by the warmth of the sunlight and birbs' chirps...🥰
40. THE OLD WITCH SLEEP AND THE GOOD MAN GRACE BY THE AMAZING DEVIL.
Their shared trauma, their pain, their despair, their attempts to give strength to one another ["You're better than this" He says as a hand slaps my face and I stand And say, "No good man grace" I can't do this (you can)] AND ["Oh, sleep now," oh, she pleads "You're not a coward 'cause you cower You're brave because they broke you Yet broken still you breathe So breathe, breathe, just breathe"]
Not to mention the "'Cause you are in the earth of me", which for Plot Significance makes me jump around like a monkey. Ough. Just Ough...
61. How would they describe their S/O in one word?
Miraak for Jia: ember (a smouldering one...👀)
Jia for Miraak: angel (a bit fallen and corrupted but an angel nonetheless 😅)
100. Make a meme of this ship.
I am a bad Meme Maker myself, but I stumbled upon a Perfect Jiraak Meme on Pinterest, which is this right here and has a very "give me your hand" "I'll stain you" "I'll take it" vibe:

This also goes either way, for both.

I just had an au idea heavily inspired by Shamat and Riiju-lei….
Im half awake and on my phone btw pardon any typos or if it’s incoherent
Yknow Nerevarine becomes Nerevar and it’s the 4th era and all that. Except Nerevar and Voryn last left off on a really bad note. Voryn was already super corrupted by the heart but Nerevar thought he was at least semi-lucid. And Voryn had pretty harshly told Nerevar he hates him and never wants to see him again. That he’ll kill Nerevar himself to finally be free of him. And post killing dagoth ur this still fucks Nerevar up
He’s not evil Nerevar he just has. Bad ptsd from everything along w insomnia and psychosis (I have psychosis and I like writing characters with it) and he’s convinced that while he was madly in love w Voryn and tried to use that love to convince him out of the fight in the heart chamber… Voryn never really loved him. They were only friends for convenience on Voryn’s end and Voryn probably began to hate and resent him early on in the friendship but had to stay close bc Nerevar was king and could pose a threat if he let his real feelings show so he’d rather act like he enjoyed Nerevar’s company and subtly manipulated him just to survive
So when he finds Voryn’s reincarnation injured and low it’s… it gives him many mixed feelings. He’s happy to see Voryn’s face again, and also believes Voryn wouldn’t want Nerevar anywhere near him reincarnation or not. He feels guilty enjoying his reincarnation’s smile and laughter and sweet voice. But he tells himself over and over that it’s just for his sake, he would send the reincarnation somewhere else if he could but Nerevar is the best person to protect him at the moment. It’s just temporary and he’ll let the reincarnation now somewhere outside of Morrowind where he’ll actually be safe. He kept his distance enough that it’s not a super painful goodbye on the reincarnation’s heart, but he does wonder why he feels so cold and empty leaving. Nerevar wishes him good luck and sets him off to Skyrim
Where dragonborn shenanigans happen and alduin is slain. And then the gang goes to Solstheim where cult shit (outside miraak’s) happens and oops. Dagoth ur and Voryn Dagoth are both trying to get in that body. It’s a chaotic mess. Most of the cultists are dealt with but Neloth calls in Nerevar
And Nerevar. Well. He’s not happy to hear it at all but he comes running and does know the solution. He and Divayth were working on making sure dagoth ur never returns—Azura prophecized his reincarnation after all, and Nerevar interpreted in the most dire way possible assuming she meant dagoth ur and not Voryn. (To Nerevar of course she wouldn’t bother just telling him about Voryn coming back because it’s not like it concerns him. Voryn would want nothing to do with him, and hated him arguably more than the tribunal did. So she must be warning dagoth ur would be coming back)
The mask ritual is what they came up with to banish dagoth ur. But divayth warns him since he hypothesizes Voryn’s soul is completely bound to dagoth ur, a reincarnation choosing to banish dagoth ur will banish Voryn’s personality, memories, etc with it. He’ll truly never see Voryn again and won’t even have the chance to talk to him abt what happened and apologize. Nerevar says that’s definitely for the best, because as much as he wants it he doesn’t want to hurt Voryn either.
He would have done it on the reincarnation at the temple to be safe but his reincarnation seemed so sweet and lovely, he couldn’t bear the thought. The ritual is likely going to be painful and miserable and he didn’t do anything to deserve it, he didn’t choose to be Voryn’s reincarnation.
But he assures team dragonborn this is their best bet and if they encourage him he’ll be able to fight it off. He doesn’t tell them about his close relationship with Voryn or even that any bits of Voryn in him will also be banished because he doesn’t. Really think it’s relevant their friend is suffering trying to fight it off himself. And he’s in a bad way fluctuating rapidly from classic dagoth ur insults, screaming, confused screaming, and begging for Nerevar to help him—team dragonborn initially confused on who Nerevar is.
And the ritual is a success! Only it didn’t banish Voryn but instead made all of it surface in his mind and he’s out cold processing it for several days. It all seems to have worked though and he can’t sense dagoth ur’s influence on him in the slightest. Makes sure to get him all set up with healers. Though he still tries to keep his distance despite team dragonborn being like “hhhhhey db seemed to know you and kept calling for you to help what was that” and Nerevar laughs it off that he knew the man dagoth ur used to be as they were political allies for a time and basically coworkers AND he helped the reincarnation when he was injured one time so it probably all bled together. Hey he and divayth are going to be the only two ppl alive now who know there’s more to it than that his reincarnation doesn’t need to know how much bad blood there really was between them more than absolutely necessary. He’ll probably already be upset about dagoth ur and everything he doesn’t need to feel guilty about what Voryn said (and Nerevar does believe Voryn was probably in the right on that one). He does spill though that Voryn’s personality and memories will be gone AFTER the ritual is finished, but he tries to do that to reassure them that almost everything should be back to normal and they can forget this all every happened really
But uhhhhh yeah. Dragonborn wakes up with Voryn’s memories crying and demanding to go to morrowind to speak with Nerevar. Team dragonborn reassured him that Nerevar is already here on Solsthiem bc neloth called for him to help with the whole tribunal cult and weird possession shit. Lucien probably is like “he said he and your previous incarnation—well before dagoth ur—was your coworker of sorts. But that not to worry, your won’t remember anything from that man either!”
And the dragonborn has to deadpan “a little late for that. I remember everything” or smth along those lines. Just feeling absolutely awful for what he said to Nerevar before Nerevar was forced to kill him. And then gets told “he said you were political allies and coworkers” and has to go “COWORKERS?! WE WERE CLOSR FRIENDS FOR CENTURIES. THE CLOSEST OF FRIENDS. I TOLD HIM ALMOST EVERYTHING WHAT DO YOU MEAN COWORKERS?!?!” Before it dawns on him that ohhhhhh god neht actually thought this ritual would banish all of Voryn’s memories too and he’d never remember Nerevar again. But was willing to give that up to truly free him from dagoth ur’s influence like he couldn’t do so long ago. He’d rather lose his closest friend and the man he loved for a THIRD time than risk Voryn losing himself again.

✨Happy GOL HAH DOV 3rd Anniversary!!✨
Tumblr media
I have been really busy with school and irl stuff so i got late with my anniversary drawing xD but here it is! Miraak and Chrysanthe have a lil smooch at Skytemple ruins <3
And would ya look at that. 3 years of reading GHD written by @99corentine, i think this is the longest i've stayed active(well not very active recently cuz stuff) in a fandom! haha time goes fast
I've always thought about drawing this scene from Chapter 14, their first irl kiss! :D got their first kiss in the telepathy but <33 i still fangirl in joy when i see this part
Overall, GHD has brought me a lot of stuffs i am very grateful of. Passion and improvements in art, many new friends, and I actually bought and learned more about skyrim compared to last year xD I am very happy to be a part of this group.
I hope you all have a good day, and see you next time :)

Choose Violence asks! Pick the most inflammatory ones you can find on the list and answer them. If Danger!Josh has an unpopular opinion on specific things mentioned therein, he can share them too.
Oh yes! Let's get riekling over here! This includes ART! Under the cut for length. I'm mostly just gushing about a Danger!Josh HC that I have. :3 You know the one ;)
7. What character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?
So I have two of these, the first one being Cicero and the second being Miraak. Prior to seeing any discourse I either gave zero shits or just didn't care for them (based off of Cicero, I can't handle his voice, it's so grating and hurts my ears.) But I didn't think that much about either of them until I started actually participating in the fandom (in my own way, I don't really contribute outside of personal conversations and any of the art I produce...which has nothing to do with either of those characters...except my one joke about Miraak as a Shoggoth being sexy).
Tumblr media
I had no idea that it was immoral or moral to dislike either character and I'm sorry but Cicero makes me think of smelly ham water (as someone who is very mentally ill from trauma I also find him a bit insulting.) and Miraak is a missed opportunity that has been pulled in so many directions that I just can't. I won't.
18. It's absolutely criminal that the fandom has been sleeping on...
Teldryn Sero! Blade for hire, best swordsman in all Morrowind and absolute goddamn Dwemer-loving dorkface! Yes, you heard me! That guy is astounded by those ruins! I present to you his vanilla dialogue when you encounter a Dwemer ruin: "The dwarves were a clever race. I wonder what happened to them?"
And his Markarth line:
"Can you imagine what Markarth must have looked like when the dwarves were living here? I can't even begin to imagine." It's there hidden amongst all that dramatic cynicism, sarcastic bravado and slight "Dunmer are better than you" attitude. This guy is a nerd for anything Dwemer! I never see anyone point this out though. I think it's a missed opportunity for character-building. His tone, still sarcastic as ever (because he is dripping in it) does change to one of awe. The only other thing he gets this way about are the Telvanni mushroom Tels. So he seems to appreciate grand architecture (though not Nordic or Imperial styles interestingly enough), it would explain why every town you walk into in Skyrim elicits a bitch-a-thon from him. He hates everything because it looks unimpressive to him. Blacklight must be as grand as Markarth is intended to be in the lore. Since he compares that city to everything. I have my own thoughts on what it looks like too ;) Guess who else is a dork for ancient shit? Me! So naturally I grabbed onto these lines and ran with them. I HC his interest in Dwemer is a full-on obsession. He wants to go to that museum, he wants to go dungeon diving with you and he insists on dumping as many dwemer nick-nacks into his pack as he can. He also does this with knives lol.
I also HC him as the Nerevarine, so on top of that I have him swiping that Dwemer Coherer back from Divayth Fyr as payback for not actually curing his corprus. Now what on earth is a coherer? An electrical component formerly used to detect radio waves. It consists of a tube containing loosely packed metal particles. They were used to pick up and measure radiowaves. And so Dwifi was born! Danger!Josh wants to reverse-engineer that shit! And I ran with that and created this <3

Hi Meg! I've been thinking about you a lot today and thought I'd send along some questions from the ask game to try and cheer you up <3 1, 3, 4, 7, 16, and 21 please! <3
Thank you, that means a lot 💛
It's been a nice distraction thinking about my writing and fics!! And boy is this long-
1. What’s something new that you tried in a fic this year? How did it turn out and would you do it again?
I tried to write according to a theme - it isn't something I've really done before, I've written and thought of themes which applied retrospectively but not actually written with a theme in mind from the start. It was quite hard, but I think it worked out well for both things which I wrote.
The end results were Purity, based on the quest of the same name with one of my dragonborn, Thea, and Vilkas with a focus on the struggle he was going through at Hircine's whim, as well as a little piece based on Miraak's experience of looking up at the night sky of Tamriel after being freed from Apocrypha.
As for whether I do it again... it would probably depend on themes, if anything stirs up some sort of inspiration.
3. What’s something you learned about yourself as a writer?
That having a network of people to talk to about my fics, to bounce ideas off and do the same in kind is so incredibly invigorating for me. In particular, things that WIP Wednesdays have been a huge part of this and ohhhh my god, I wish I had something like this in the past when I used to post fanfic pre-2020.
4. What piece of media inspired you the most?
I think it would be cheating if I were to say Skyrim/Elder Scrolls, so ignoring those specifically... I would honestly have to say the fanfictions which I read for the fandom. Before I started writing The Perfect Storm, even before I made my account on here, I spent many nights reading Skyrim fanfictions. Admittedly, a vast majority were smutty, but the ones which made me go 'you know, I want to do some writing based on Skyrim' were the ones which I read that weren't just pure filth but had such wonderfully crafted and nuanced plots where sex wasn't just there for the sake of it but instead enhanced the fic as a whole.
I honestly wish I could find a novel which could enrapture me in the way in which those fanfictions did, where I would be in the perpetual state of 'oh, just one more chapter then I'll sleep' until I finished the fic in the early hours of the morning.
7. What character(s) captured your heart?
Balgruuf. Need I say more?
Ahh, there's actually quite a few - though honestly even my own dear dragonborn Elyse holds a piece of my heart. She's bears a fragment of me within her, as my first character for Skyrim who I began to think more in-depth about as opposed to just being a character that I'm playing as. And it's been a downward spiral from there. So many OCs. But Elyse was the first.
21. Share your favorite piece of dialogue
Ohhhh, this is hard - I have quite a few! So I'll list my top five I think :)
I feel that quite a few of them need context too, so it's a bit more than dialogue too. And it'll be under a read more just to save people's dashboards!
1 -
“You know, I was so proud of you when you said that you wanted to free yourself from the beastblood, Vilkas,” she began, sounding just as proud as she forced on a smile, its hesitance and shakiness as clear as day. “You’ve let yourself suffer for so long, and the least that you deserve is a chance to live without fear of what you can become. And do you want to know why? It’s because you are Vilkas, you are a brave, honourable Companion - one of the strongest people that I know - and you are going to free yourself from this curse and return to Jorrvaskr with me or so help me, I will- I… I will…”
- Thea addressing Vilkas in the aforementioned fic, Purity
2 -
"I see that you received my gift. Danica mentioned when she updated me on your condition that you would need to keep yourself warm after leaving her care, and Lydia said that your warmer clothes were not in the city, so…" he stated, nodding towards the woollen garment. Her eyes widened in surprise at that revelation, she had half been expecting the scarf to have been something that Danica had given to her to be charitable, not for it to have been a gift from the Jarl himself. She brought her hand up to it, and nodded. "I have… thank you. I didn’t know that it was from you."
- Balgruuf talking about a scarf which he got for Elyse ahhhhhh these two-!!!! in chapter 4 of The Perfect Storm
3 -
"You mean that you aren’t the people that the Jarl was sending? But aren’t you the Jarl’s..." He looked as though he didn’t want to finish his sentence as he finally let go of Elyse. A frown settled on Elyse’s face. "Thane?" "Th-Thane...? Yes, yes, uh... Thane...” He trailed off, a hint of uncertainty still in his voice, followed by a shake of his head and a quick but quiet mumble of “That was the word I was looking for..." under his breath.
- Sabjorn not-so-subtly implying that he thinks Elyse is in a relationship with Balgruuf or has at the very least heard rumours of such in chapter 15 of The Perfect Storm
4 -
"Hope you don't mind Brynjolf here joining us, Wynne. If we're talking business or pleasure tonight, he's definitely someone you want around." She pulled a dagger out of her sleeve as her associate took a seat before she scowled as she pulled her cowl down. That was followed by her pointing it in his direction. "My name is Maewynne, Delvin. Not Mae, not Wynne, Maewynne. All one word," she muttered, before looking at the stranger. She was about to ask this Brynjolf whether he was part of the Thieves Guild too, but when she saw the way that he was looking at her blade, as though he was appraising it, she felt that the question was unnecessary. His keen eyes earlier, and his ability to identify something of value seemed to be enough of a giveaway. Instead, she decided to ask something else. "What do you think of my dagger?" "That is certainly an interesting way to introduce yourself, lass."
- An excerpt for a currently unpublished but in the works fic based around one of my Dark Brotherhood characters, Maewynne, as she infiltrates the Thieves Guild on behalf of a former guild member....

"You heard the news? I've got to say, I feel sorry for those poor bastards up north," he hummed as he dried the inside of a tankard with a cloth, the head of the man he was addressing finally lifting up. "On top of war breaking out, apparently the Empire have requested that borders in and out of Skyrim be closed. Don’t know how long for, either. Imagine being stuck in that icy shithole for the foreseeable future...” The customer laughed loudly at the comments, clearly drunk, with his hand slamming down on the polished wood. “As opposed to this icy shithole? Bruma ain’t much better, what, with all those elves passing through, skulkin’ round that abandoned temple..." He then paused, and let out a puzzled noise. "Wait a minute… ain't most of your business from when those Skyrim folk pass through?” "As I said – I feel sorry for 'em."
- The innkeeper of the Jerall View Inn and one of his customers in the first chapter of Seeking the Sun, prompting a very tired Elyse to cross the border and get caught up in that Imperial ambush, same as-

WIP Not-Wednesday
I was tagged by @jirowrites (thank you! 💖) to share a little piece of a WIP, and since it's been a while since my last update, here's a chunk of chapter six of i fear no fate (for you are my fate) full of timey-wimey dream stuff for you all:
Had she not been too alight with fury to think, she might have guessed he’d bring her to a throne room in full splendour, or a dazzling temple sanctum, or perhaps a hall to rival that of Shor himself. Not a turret bearing the clawed-out marks of countless flights and landings, opening out to a diamond cloak of stars thrown across the sky. Beyond the edge of the battlement, so far down that her moon-spun wings shiver with wild delight, is Solstheim. Miraak’s Solstheim. He stands at her side, pointing out features of the landscape and giving them the names of his era: the patchwork tundra of the Isinfier Plains sprawling all around them, the snow-dusted Hirstaang Forest swaying to the south, and from the north-west rise the Moesring Mountains, where the Snow Prince was slain—or will be slain—atop his winter-white steed. Tiny moving flames no larger to her than fireflies draw her eye when he bids her look down to the settlement surrounding the temple grounds. With an odd little jolt, she realises that they’re torches, each one held aloft by a guard or a servant or an ordinary person oblivious to their silent audience of a dreamer and a woman out of time. In this form, her senses are sharpened twofold. Focusing her hearing, willing herself to empty of thought and just listen, she catches owls hooting, cows lowing, dogs barking, the distant tinkling of bells, and stolen fragments of conversations in Dovahzul and what cannot be anything other than rapid-fire Atmoran. In four thousand years, all of this will be gone. It’s real now, so real that, dream or not, she can run her fingertips along the stone embrasures and feel the wind whipping at her hair and the hem of her nightgown, but to wake will be to erase it forever. Come morning, every single one of the people she’s watching will be either draugr or dust. The snow and tundra for miles around will be scattered with the skeletons of so many dragons, she’ll never truly be able to imagine how it would feel to absorb all of those souls in such a short space of time. Like you could bring down the heavens with the merest whisper, she can’t help but think. Like you’ve torn off your fragile mortal skin and exposed a god blazing beneath. And she could warn him if she wanted, turn to him with the future on her tongue like a bitter aftertaste, but what good would it do? If he refused to bargain with Mora, or hid his rebellion better, or threw his lot in with the three Nord heroes who once asked for his aid, would it unmake the version of him she so painstakingly won from death and Oblivion both? Would it unmake her, since if Alduin were defeated in the Merethic Era, there’d be no need for a Last Dragonborn in the Fourth?
there, that ought to motivate me to get cracking (we're on 7.5k words and I usually write about 10k per chapter, so I don't anticipate it being too long before the update)! I tag @bostoniangirl21, @bougainvillea-and-saltwater, @kiir-do-faal-rahhe (no pressure, of course!) and anyone else who's got a WIP, whether art or writing, they'd like to show! ✨

Nine people you'd like to know better
tagged by @yansurnummu thank you so so much!
3 ships
Lets goooooo, starting off with one that lives rent free in my head is Yera/Teldryn.
I forgot when but I didn't immediately get interested in Teldryn even after the Dragonborn DLC came out. It was a fic that had him as a side character that got me interested, then I started looking up other Ao3 fics with him in it and it's all I think about when daydreaming about Yera.
Yera by the time she gets to Solstheim has already gone through two world ending events and is super tired and ready to kick this Miraak character's ass and isn't with her friend Lydia at the moment so she needs to hire a mercenary to guide her around on account she is blind and uh oh. Good with a sword with a handsome voice? Basically got a crush on him second 1 and it's downhill from there.
Working on like an intro fic for the two of them but I can never seem to get it right but it'll get there one day.
Next is Yera/Miraak funnily enough, I am not alone in wanting that old book man. I just think that with Yera's incredibly strong personality and also probably kicking his ass while saving him would mesh well with him. I also have the thought that if Yera hung around Miraak long enough, he would convince her of taking the Rudy Throne on the base that they both are Dragon soul so they ought to rule everything.
But what if Yera had two hands, and she held hands with Teldryn and Miraak in the same house wouldn't that be wild haha... unless?
And my last ship is silly, but only because I recently re-watched Full Metal Alchemist but it's Miles/Olivier Armstrong. I love the Briggs portion of the show so much, I usually start there when I want a quick rewatch of the show. I just think they're neat, and people write some fun fics about them together so I'm having a lot of fun going through them and yeah.
First ship Had to be my oc/canon pairing Lexen/Riku from Kingdom Hearts. Lexen is my oldest most precious OC who has gone through some drastic changes in life that she is unrecognizable in the beginning and I'm almost embarrassed by the ship but I was like 14 and Riku was edgy and that's the kind of characters I liked so I could never exist haha
Last song 6.24 by Danger (Furi OST) I heard this song being used as a fight montage song and I had to find the original and welp I'm listening to a bunch of synth songs now
Currently reading Nothing at the moment, however my partner has the Elric of Melnibone series I got them for Christmas and they're done with them now, so it's my turn to read them!
Last film Me and my partner went to watch Godzilla Minus One and omfg that was so so scary a movie but also how do you have a monster film be also about survivors guild its so so good I highly recommend watching it as soon as you can!
Currently craving
We have so many noodles in the house right now but I was craving some instant noodles something fierce a few minutes ago. I opted to go with some pico de gallo I made as a before bed snack but the noodles... they call for me in my dreams
Tagging @icicleteeth @scalecallerpeak @khajiitclaws and whoever else wants to join in
