Idk if we’re still talking about this but I am SO mad we never got ANYTHING about Lena and her adoptive family (outside of violet- actually, no. We should have had more Lena and violet as well) like... really? We’re just gonna skip over the abuse victim learning to love and live with her new family? I know it’s probably because Disney didn’t want gay dads to have more screen time, but come on! It felt like Lena had a huge change between friendship hates magic and Challenge of the Senior Junior Woodchucks and we never got to see it!
Oh I'll probably always have something to say about it lol. Every other day this week I've slammed open the door to twitter to go "AND ANOTHER THING..." because the more I think about it, the more I find something to get mad about. Maybe its not the most productive mindset to have, but honestly releasing frustrations on stuff that ultimately doesn't matter has been very therapeutic.
Okay, so. The bulk of season 3 was sort of "wrap-up" episodes for secondary and tertiary characters that weren't gonna get attention in the finale. Some of these episodes really struggled to find something to say about those characters, especially if their stuff wrapped up pretty nicely in the course of season 2, victims of "we write every season as though it was our last." Lena's arc is one of those. In Killmotor Hill, she gains confidence to believe in herself as a unique person and to stand up to magica. By the S2 finale she's slinging spells with no problems. So when it came time to revisit and send Lena off in season 3, they had to manufacture some new problem for her.
And the phantom and the sorceress sucked.
The manufactured problem (lenas powers are unpredictable and she hates them) was already resolved in season 2. The solution (webby suggests they go to magica for help) fucking sucks. Webby would put herself between Lena and Magica at any cost. But its very urgent that they fix lenas problems and stop the blot from stealing magic because SCROOGE is trapped in another dimension. Also gladstone is there because everyone was asking the crew about magicstone probably around the time this episode was being pitched. Or whatever.
Sigh.
Anyway they should have torn this episode down to the foundation and set it in the sabrewing household.
Tumblr media
Its baffling to me that they never said on screen ONCE where Lena is living. There are two context clues: "sister from another mister" which is just a ....thing people say, very specifically about people who are not their siblings, and Lena and Vi sharing a bed in the christmas episode, which looks way more like a sleep-over than it would have if they had given them separate beds. Make Lena look like a permanent fixture and not that shes just crashing for the night.
But if we had set the phantom and the sorceress at the sabrewing home, we could have seen it. We could have seen lena and violet defend their family, or the dads try to protect them, we could have seen how much they love her. One of the dads could have shouted mindfulness techniques or something when she fumbles in a fight, implying they've been helping her through therapy. Blot could have still been there, magica could have still been there, both convening at the same time to take lenas magic with varying levels of effectiveness... but the episode absolutely should have been centered on what Lena needs for herself, not what she needs to do for scrooge or gladstone.
I suppose ty and Indy would have to be more than cardboard cutouts in the background for that to happen, though. 🙃
Somewhere along the line, Ducktales stopped being a show that wanted to tell interesting stories full of heart that sometimes got kind of dark. I want to say...around the time Della came back? Because the stuff about Lena in season 1 was really dark and compelling and the early stuff about Della in season 2 was good (she amputated her own leg!!) but round about the time she got integrated into the cast and we started focusing on the moonlanders and not how she had to learn how to be a person in society again with kids she doesnt know, it kind of all became....cameos and catchphrases. Like the show didnt want to get deep or challenging anymore.
Anyway yeah they did Lena really dirty.

Leaving the Nest
Companion piece to The Family We Make (can be read in any order)
Ao3
Granny’s posture is as immaculate as always, but her knuckles grip the pan just a little too tight. To an outsider, she would seem the perfect picture of serenity, but Webby knows the tells that give her away too well.
Of course she does. Granny is Webby’s favorite person in the entire world.
Webby’s family has grown and grown over the last few years, and she wouldn’t trade that for the world. But if it came down to it, Granny is more her family than anyone else. Even the boys. Even Dad.
“Dear, I think we should talk about… the other day,” Granny trails off, awkward and lame. It would be disorienting to see Granny, normally so put-together and articulate, struggling with words. But a couple days ago, Webby saw her chained and captured, crying and beaten, forced to spill her darkest secrets and then knocked out. Manipulated. Nothing Granny does can faze her in quite the same way.
Webby takes a deep breath. “I… I think so too,” she says. “But, honestly, I don’t have anything to say. You’re my Granny.”
Granny’s shoulders slump in relief before she catches herself, her decades of SHUSH training snapping in, and she reorients herself to her ever-present poker face.
“I’m not, you know,” Granny says quietly, her voice full of shame. Webby stiffens, and glances away before Granny can see the tears pooling in her eyes. “I- I stole you from a SHUSH compound. The photos you have of your parents were a lie. Just another lie among many.”
“I don’t care,” Webby snaps, with more anger in her voice than she intended. But as soon as the words are out of her mouth, she realizes that she truly does feel that anger. Not towards Granny herself, but towards the notion that Granny isn’t her grandmother.
“You’re my grandmother,” Webby declares passionately. “I don’t care if you’re not related to me. I don’t care if I’m a clone of Dad. You stole me from a FOWL compound because you cared about me from the moment we met. You gave up your entire life and a career you’d been working towards for decades for me. You raised me. You locked yourself in the mansion to keep me safe. You’re my grandmother.”
“I’m happy to hear that, dear,” Granny says in the softest of whispers. “More than you could ever know.” Webby thinks she hears Granny’s voice catch, but she can’t be certain.
“But I lied to you, even after I promised I wouldn’t,” Granny continues, her tone more subdued. She crosses her hands in her lap, making a controlled effort to smooth them out. “You have every right to be angry with me.”
Webby reaches forward and takes her grandmother’s hand in both of hers. “I do,” she agrees. Granny’s head snaps up and she stares at Webby, eyes wide. Webby shrugs nonchalantly, shoulders loose, emulating Louie’s calculated facade of easy calm without realizing it. “But that’s not the kind of person I am, Granny.”
Webby glances away, pursuing her lips. She can’t bear to watch Granny’s face twist in pain. “I… I am frustrated that you lied to me and broke your promise,” she says slowly, haltingly, choosing her words carefully. She’s walking a thin line, basically a tightrope with no net, of expressing her feelings and not upsetting her Granny. “Just don’t do it again, please.”
Granny’s face softens. “Of course, Webby dear. No more secrets.”
She reaches out to hug Webby, and Webby obliges, but she says stiff. “That’s what you said last time,” Webby mutters into Granny’s shoulder. Her words are almost too soft to be heard, but judging by the way Granny stiffens, she does.
Granny pulls back, her hands still on Webby’s shoulders. She opens her mouth a few times, frantically searching for words, some kind of placating promise that she didn’t already break.
“You’re right. Of course,” Granny acquiesces at last, hanging her head. Strands of grey hair drip out of her bun by the pull of gravity. Webby swallows thickly, bile pooling in her throat. Granny is reacting perfectly, yet all she does is remind Webby of when they were stuck together in a dark FOWL interrogation room, a wall of pain and deception painfully thick between them.
Webby reaches out a small hand to touch Granny’s shoulder. “Granny, please,” she whispers. She’s not sure if Granny understands the true meaning behind her plea in its entirety, but she pulls herself back together nonetheless. For a few minutes, silence hangs between them. It’s not a comfortable silence, but it’s not stifling, either. It’s just… anticipatory.
“I can’t simply promise that I won’t lie to you anymore,” Granny says at last. Her voice is quiet and subdued, but honest and vulnerable. It’s open in a way Granny rarely is. “But I will do better from now on. I’ll prove my sentiments through actions, not empty promises.”
Webby smiles gratefully. It’s not her usual wide, face-splitting grin, but it’s soft and vulnerable, with layers and meaning behind it. “Thanks. I… I want to know things. About SHUSH. Classified things. The parts of my past you could never tell me, and new information, too.”
Granny’s gaze shoots away. “I-I can’t,” she replies immediately, and Webby’s heart drops. It must show in her face, because Granny’s own twists with guilt.
“I- Well- I suppose I did just promise to, didn’t I,” Granny says, half to herself, with a small chuckle. There’s little humor behind it, but it’s fond. “I will do my best, Webbigail. But please understand that there is some SHUSH information that is simply beyond my classification to give you.”
“I understand,” Webby says simply. “But the information you can give me… I want to know, Granny.”
Granny’s fists clench and unclench in her lap. Webby knows how uncomfortable and out of her depth she must feel. She protected Webby with her life for years by hiding these secrets, and it takes time to undo such habits. But she’s trying, and that’s all that Webby cares about.
“Do you remember the day I met the boys?” Webby asks, her voice lighter and more casual than she feels. There’s a pit of fear steadily growing in her stomach, but her voice is blessedly steady.
Granny’s smile is small but fond. “You snuck out,” she replies, a hint of reproach in her voice, but no malice. It’s a wound long since healed, leaving only a soft scar as a reminder that it existed at all. “You ignored my number one rule and left the mansion for the very first time.”
“Yeah, and it was new and scary,” Webby replies lightly, ignoring the jab. “But you let me go, because you knew it was for the best. Because I was growing up.”
“Because Mr. McDuck could keep you safe,” Granny adds pointedly, but she’s smiling, if a bit pained.
“Yeah, and he did! I’m fine, Granny. Besides, I can keep myself safe.”
“Tell that to the you that landed yourself in FOWL headquarters with all your allies captured and no real clue what was in store for you,” Granny quips. “My worst nightmare, come alive right in front of my eyes.”
“I’m sorry,” Webby mutters, dropping her gaze to her feet. “But hey, if you’d told me the truth, maybe I wouldn’t have been so misinformed.”
Granny dips her head. “You make a good point. I concede that one.”
“Anyway, that’s just what this is like,” Webby continues. “It’s a big change. But it’s a necessary one. I’m ready for this, Granny.  You are too. And in time, this’ll feel completely normal, and we’ll have forgotten what it was like to live like we are.”
Granny is silent for a few moments. Webby glances up, nervous, only to find Granny smiling proudly, and wiping a small tear away under her glasses.
“Webby, dear, you are so wise,” she says, her voice thick. Webby’s heart clenches. “Aren’t I the one supposed to give you the deep, heartfelt talks and inspire you, and not the other way around?”
Webby gives her a small smile. “You’ve done it before, Granny. Don’t sell yourself short.”
Granny sniffles rather uncharacteristically. Without warning, she lunges forward and scoops Webby up in a tight hug. “Oh, my dear,” Granny says, her voice choked with tears. “You are just lovely, you know that? How did I ever get so lucky to have you for a granddaughter?”
“Well, it’s partly because of you,” Webby says, smiling into her grandmother’s back. “You raised me.”
Granny nods into Webby’s shoulder. “And it was lovely.”
When Granny finally pulls back, she tugs Webby back to face her, her hands on Webby’s shoulders. “You’re growing up,” she says thickly. “Oh, Webbigail, I am so proud of you.”
Webby beams at her grandmother. “I’m proud of you, too.”
“Oh,” Granny says thickly, and hugs her again.

HEY REMEMBER WHEN I SAID I WOULD WRITE THE CONVERSATION WITH WEBBY AND BEAKLEY WELL HERE IT IS :D (rip my poor math homework i’ll be up all night finishing that ugh)
i wrote this in like,, 45 minutes because i had to get the few sentences i was thinking about down before i forgot them and just,, kept going lmao. rip the webby & lena convo story i’ve been chipping away at that is going absolutely nowhere rn. i’ll get to it
webby and beakley’s relationship is SO important to me. beakley literally gave up everything for webby. it’s so obvious how much beakley cares about her, but also,,, they had this entire episode about trusting each other and then beakley promises not to keep any more secrets from webby and she has absolutely zero intention of keeping it. that always gets me. especially since webby is one of the most trusting characters of all time and would never doubt her grandmother of all people after they made up. i’m not salting on beakley or anything, but it’s very interesting to think about going forward since beakley will obviously try to do better, especially once the major factor keeping her quiet is gone, but she really doesn’t have a leg to stand on since she broke her promise. definitely an interesting concept we should talk about more
we talk a lot about how scrooge never apologized to webby after telling her she wasn’t family in last crash of the sunchaser and she immediately forgave him. scrooge def should’ve apologized but it’s interesting to note that webby basically can’t and won’t hold a grudge for the life of her, at least when it comes to the people she cares about (she definitely can with goldie DJDFKLSLDF). it’s sweet. i imagine beakley feels incredibly guilty after the finale but webby’s just ready to move on and to enter a new chapter of their lives where they’re completely honest and open with each other. i don’t imagine she’s not upset at the deception, but she’s not mad.
also man that interrogation scene? that probably traumatized webby. man. what a shitty situation to be in i can’t even imagine.
beakley and webby’s relationship will always mean the world to me, especially with the added context of their backstory. beakley literally saw one (1) baby and was like i’m about to end this man’s (me) whole career LMAO. it’s incredible.

Thunder crashed and roared outside of a tall bell tower in France.
Magica had successfully made her way to the realm of the living, but lacked a way of tracking down the princess, until she had sent Poe out to find a clue, to which he returned with a newspaper with the headline "LOST PRINCESS FOUND IN PARIS" with a picture of the young Webbigail attached. Magica grinned.
"Poe, you must find me some perfume and a comb. I wish to look my best before I destroy my greatest rival's bloodline," she grinned.
"That might take a lot of work," Poe commented on her rotting flesh, but Magica was in too good of a mood to be bothered.
"Then hurry up and do it! We are going to a party!" She told.
"A party? You? But you haven't been to a party in ten years and look where that got you," Poe pointed out.
"Bah. I will let the Grand Duchess Webbigail have her moment and then I will strike her down! Right in front of everyone! Even her Grandmother!" She laughed.
"Kill her? What happened to the whole party idea?" He asked.
"That's when we'll kill her imbicile," Magica scoffed. "We're going to crush her in front of absolutely everyone!"
"Won't someone recognize and at least try to stop you? Why don't you lure her away like you did with the boat?" Poe asked. Magica stopped to ponder.
"That does seem more likely to not end with me dead..." she said.
"So..?" Poe egged on.
"Alright, fine. I'll do your plan. But it'll be a whole lot less fun."
.o0o.
Webbigail laughed alongside her grandmother as they looked through old memories together in Beakly's mansion. Being reunited filled them with joy that neither had felt in years. Looking theough photos, paintings, old doodles, and writings of the past made memories come flodding back to Webby. She picked up a photo of her and her sibilings and sighed.
"I remember now... how much I loved them all," she said. Beakly put a hand on the photo.
"They would not want us to live in the past, now that we have found each other," she soothed. Webby smiled and nodded. Beakly looked back to the basket of memories they had been examining and pulled out a drawing Webby had done right before the ball when she was eight.
"Oh my- would you look at this?" Beakly laughed and showed it to Webby, who laughed too.
"Odette made me so mad! She had said it looked like a pig," she snorted. "Well, she was right," she said as she put it down. Beakly laughed and stood, helping Webby off the ground too.
"In your laughter, I hear my Nicky, your dear father, once again," she smiled and took her to a mirror before going over to a box and taking out a giant crown embedded with hundreds of diamonds. Webby gasped at how beautiful it was.
"But you have the beauty of your mother, Alexandria, the Empress of all Russia," Beakly said as she placed the crown on Webby's head. Webby looked into the mirror and couldn't help but feel like her whole family was there cheering her on. It was like the past had been made right, but at the same time she felt like it wasn't over, that nothing was over yet.
"Now, let's get you dressed for the ball of the decade," Beakly said.
A dress, yes. That must've been what was missing. Beakly took Webby over to the fitting room and before Webby knew it she was getting dressed into the most beautiful dress she had seen in her life. It was yellow and pink as well as sparkly, which she felt like added a special touch. On top of all of that, she wore the blue sash of her father.
The crown of her mother and the sash of her father.
She was quite literally carrying the legacy of her family. They lived on with her.
"Oh my dear, look at you. You look like a Grand Duchess if I have ever seen one," Daisy clapped at her presence.
"Thank you," she smiled and twirled around in it happily. This was probably one of the happiest days of her life, but still there was something missing. Something unfulfilled that she couldn't quite put her finger on, but she figured she'd figure that out later.
.o0o.
"You sent for me, your grace?" Louie bowed for the Dowager Empress.
"I know you kidnapped me, and forced me into a strange hotel against my will, but it did bring me my granddaughter and a promise is a promise. Ten million dollars, as promised with my gratitude," she revealed a suitcase full of money on the table by her side.
"I accept your gratitude your highness... but I don't want the money," Louie said.
"What do you want then?" She eyed him suspiciously, which if she actually knew him would've been a fair response.
"Nothing you can give, your highness. Now if you'll excuse me, I must start packing my things for home," he bowed once more before starting to leave the room.
"Young man, where did you get that music box?" She asked, stopping him in his tracks.
"You were the boy, weren't you? The servant boy who got us out?" She asked. Louie looked away and avoided eye contact.
"You saved her life and mine, then you restored her to me, and yet you want no reward," She puzzled.
"Not anymore," he sighed.
"Why the change of mind?" She smirked, starting to theorize.
"It was more of a change of heart," he corrected tiredly. He paused before saying, "I must go," and leaving the room, leaving only a smirking Beakly by herself.
Louie made his was toward the exit when he ran into no other than Webbigail herself, though she'd always be Webby to him, dressed in a ballgown worth of an Empress. He was star struck once again at the sight. Webby looked back at him with an expression he couldn't read. Gratitude, anger, happiness? Perhaps a mix of all.
"Hello Louie," she said.
"Hello." He shook out of his star struckness and returned to his sharp and witty protective outershell.
"Did you collect your reward?" She turned bitter too.
"My buisness is complete," was all he said before moving down the stairs. A butler stopped him though.
"Young man, you will bow and calm her 'Your Majesty' when talking to the Princess," he said.
"No, that's not-" she tried to stop.
"Oh no, please. Your majesty," he bowed. "I'm glad you found what you were looking for."
"Yes. I'm glad you did too," she said, a bit puzzled at his genuineness.
"Well then... goodbye your highness," he bowed one last time, took a good look at her, sighed and walked away. Webby waved a little before sighing to herself.
She realized that was likely to be the last time she would ever see him, and her feelings still hadn't gone away.
"Goodbye..."
.o0o.
Donald hummed happily to himself as he readied himself for the night's ball. He was placed back on the imperial court by the request of Daisy and on favor of the Dowager Empress out of gratitude. He was in a room alongside Lena, who was given a little something to wear for the ball too, since Webby had insisted on the dog coming to the ball too. It was a little unorthodox, but they did it anyway.
"Lena, do you mind? Oh, of course you don't. You are a good dog," Donald patted her head and took a metal off the little sash Lena had on and pinned it to his shirt. Just as he was doing it Louie entered the room. He had to clear his throat to get his uncle's attention.
"Well... if you're ever in Saint Duckburg, give me a call," Louie sighed.
"You're going back?" Donald asked.
"I've already made up my mind, so don't try to change it," Louie said. Donald sighed before going and hugging Louie, who for once in his life accepted it.
"So long Uncle Donald," he said.
"Ah, my Louie," Donald sighed and put a hand on his nephew's face. "You are making a mistake. Trust me."
"No, trust me. This is the one thing I'm doing right," Louie stuck his hands in his pockets, and started to walk away when Lena of all dogs started to whimper. Louie sighed and crouched down.
"So long mutt," he said with a small crooked smile. Lena would've normally bit him at the remark, but instead she just whimpered and begged him to stay more.
"I can't stay. I don't belong here," he explained. It broke Donald's heart to hear him say that. Donald hugged Louie one more time before Louie walked out of the room forever.

Ramble in whatever form you choose. I won’t be able to be active all the time so if you want to be able to do it whenever you want I’d say text posts but I’ll also try to occasionally ask you about them so there’s some variety
!!! okay! well i think i’ll choose a couple from the list that i haven’t made many posts about before (aka no ts or go) and ramble on here!
oof under the cut bc idk how long this will get
steven universe
oh hon don’t even get me STARTED on su like that shit? that shit is so good? okay first of all i love the cast so much? gosh they’re just all so sweet and cool and sometimes they collab w/ thomas sanders and i love rebecca sugar and im gonna cry they’re so sweet im so soft
okay SECONDLY the show itself oof
okay okay im just? god im so soft?? like the music is so good, i can (and do) watch it w/ my parents, GOD do i wanna cosplay pearl’s new outfit (and rainbow 2.0, if i can pull it off), im in love with the concept and all the fusions and the story and the worldbuilding and god, this made me realize my utter love and adoration of COLOURS like they’re so PRETTY im in LOVE oh my gOD and just
god it has such a good message and such a good plot and such good characters i wanna be steven’s friend i wanna be all of their friends oh man i just can’t wait until my baby cousins are old enough for me to show this to them because i’m going to enjoy that experience so much
ducktales
oh jfc where the fuck do i even start with ducktales okay david tennant as scrooge mcduck makes my fucking life literally he’sthe best goddamn charaacter in the show – well, best besides the triplets (my BOYS), webby (!!! my KID), f e n t o n (god i love that nerd), mark beaks (what an asshole), mrs beakley (i wanna be her when i grow up), launchpad (!!! he!!), and so many others??? this is like serious every character in the show erasure but hot damn duck tales says gay rights and it does so in style (oh yeah also i love lena della donald oh webby’s new friend whose name i forget uhhh herules oh the inventor guy fenton’s boss that dipshit love him uhhh gandra dee who’s voiced by jameela jamil if im not mistaken??????) and yeah it’s a hilarious show but it’s also just a really good one for me to watch whenever i start to like. feel empty inside?? but then like i’ll put on ducktales and i’ll feel better
gravity falls
this show. this show RUINED ME. i started watching it like four years late (aka last year lmao) but GOD, im so in love with it. def another one i wanna show my cousins.
like?? just??? the ciphers and mysteries appeal so much to me and my love of mystery and crime novels, the characters are all amazing, alex hirsch himself is just such a g?? and like. it’s so good. it hurts me so much but then it’s all okay in the end and it’s just. it’s so good.
yeah i sobbed my eyes out when i watched that series finale.
camp camp, which somehow i forgot on my other list
god, is this show hilarious. like, fuck is it funny. it’s so good. it’s so fucking good. i was a little shocked when i saw the first episode but i’m so into it now, and i’m so attatched to all the characters bc they’re just dumbasses trying their best (or worst, in a few cases) and i love them for it. that’s peak fool energy right there and it speaks to me
orphan black
okay okay okay veering now into a much darker type of television, orphan black is??? phenominal???
okay so my best friend @fuck-me-gently-with-a-slurpee got me into it when i was like 14 or 15 i think and i honestly cannot thank her enough because this show is incredible. the plot’s super engaging, i literally cannot say anything about it without giving away spoilers, and the main character has quite possibly the best actor i’ve ever seen playing her
like. you think thomas sanders is good? he ain’t got SHIT on tatianna maslany
mythbusters
you guys. you guys. mythbusters was my childhood. like seriously, i watched that show religiously.
it’s what first got me into science, and it’s what kept me interested in explosions. it’s light and funny and ridiculous and scientifically accurate in the dumbest ways possible. i swear to god the main cast nearly dies once an episode
these guys are my idols. like, i seriously cannot overstate how much i love the mythbusters. adam and jamie, tori, kari, and grant.
when i was a kid, i wanted to be a mythbuster when i grew up, and god damnit, i still do. they mean that much to me
bill nye
fun fact! i actually had no fuckin clue who bill nye was until seventh grade, when i had to watch an episode of his show for homework because i missed a day of class. it was the episode on static electricity, and i remember sitting at my dining room table in the dim winter afternoon light, squinting at my computer, and thinking “what the FUCK am i WATCHING?”
needless to say, i’ve seen more since then, but that initial what the fuckery is still present and i love it.
not only is bill nye the science guy a flippin fantstic show, but bill nye himself? the coolest guy alive. god, i love him. what a g.
various comedians including but not limited to john mulaney, john oliver, and hasan minhaj
okay, as a gay, i am legally required to love john mulaney, but seriously that guy is so. fuckin. funny that i can’t help myself. his timing is priceless, the way he moves onstage is hysterical, just. god i love his stuff.
literally his comedic timing and style is half the reason people find me funny. i just phrase my sentences the way he would because, you know, i’m good at stealing things, and people laugh, and i go “hey. that actually worked”. and then i keep doing it
next, john oliver. okay, so while i don’t watch his show religiously, i do watch it when my parents do every now and again, and fuck is his stuff funny. like. just. shit.
finally, hasan minhaj’s patriot act is just. one of my favourite current events comedy shows out there. it’s in a similar vein to john oliver’s stuff, just more international, and shit, is he good at what he does. i lvoe it.
hoodwinked the movie (i am dead serious)
okay, while i haven’t seen it in over four years, this is still my favourite movie of all time. it also has one of my favourite villain songs of all times, and some of the best character exchanges just. ever. especially with wolf and twitchy
...god, i love twitchy. also the goat. i’m probably gonna be the goat when i grow up, let’s be honest
one day at a time
i just.
there’s so much to say about odaat. like. it’s so funny. it makes me nearly cry every episode (and makes my mother actually cry every episode). the characters, god, the characters
like. alex is such a cute dumb kid (who’s smarter than he looks), penelope is so salty constantly and i love her but she’s genuinely so cool and such a good mom and i cry??? elena is so amazing like god she’s such a fuckin nerd but she’s also so salty (takes after her mom) and is literally the best????
and then there’s abuelita, whom i adore. like, god, rita moreno is SO cool and SUCH a great actress and has SUCH an amazing sense of comedic timing and GOD, i LOVE HER
can’t forget about syd and doc berkowitz, which like. okay first off the good doc. just. god i love the doc. he’s so sweet and such a genuinely good dude and he’s a bit of a coward at heart but that’s okay because he genuinely cares and does his best and god he’s just such an amazing character im !!!!! and then syd is such a dork and i love them and elena and god, it made me so happy to see not only an actual enby character on a big sitcom, but also just?? like??? it’s not forced but it’s still there??? like there’s one episode where one of the plots is just syd and elena trying to figure out what elena should call them, since neither of them are comfy using “girlfriend” for syd since they’re not a girl, and they finally agree on “significant other” and schneider imMEDIATELY says “dont you mean, SYDnificant other?” and then they use that for the REST OF THE SHOW IT”S SO CUTE OKAY
and finally, schneider. he might be my favourite character in the entire show (which is a damn hard list to pick from!!!), but he’s just. he’s so sweet, he and penelope have one of the absolute best male/female friendships i’ve ever seen (which! never! turns! romantic! ever!!!), he’s actually got surprising depths but he’s also like such a nice goofball that when they get revealed, it hurts, and he’s just this canadian dumbass (heyyyyy repreSENT) with the worst goddamn canadian accent sometimes and he’s a hipster and The Dumb Friend and the weird uncle all rolled into one and GOD, i love him so much
the good place and brooklyn 99
okay, i love these two both so, so much, but i’m lumping them together because a) they’re both mike schur shows with a similar sense of humour, that say gay rights, and with characters who’d definitely love each other if they met and b) my hand is getting tired from all this typing but i still have so much  love to go around!!!!
okay so so SO! they’re both so good. they’re so fucking funny and amazing and i was immediately hooked on both of their pilots. their characters are all so genuine and flawed and fucking hysterical to watch, and the ships and friendships are all so amazing and pure and good and soft and they have their problems and they WORK THEM OUT HEALTHILY AND IT MAKES ME SO HAPPY OKAY!!!
god, i literally cannot overstate how much i adore these two shows. mike schur, you’re a wonderful, wonderful dude. thank you so much
many musicals (top faves include BOM, hamilton, legally blonde, chicago, matilda, and more!)
i’m putting the musicals together because while i do adore each and every one of them individually, i also just have great big deep-seated love of the art of musical theatre itself in general, ya feel?
like, as someone who’s been both performing and viewing them from a very young age, the sheer sense of utter joy they bring is almost unparalleled
not to be That Bitch who quotes musicals, but “and that hop in our hearts as the overture starts lets us know how lucky we are” might be the closest i’ve ever gotten to finding words to fit the feeling when the lights go down and the show begins. it’s simply phenomenal
the others series by anne bishop
okay, OKAY, if you haven’t read this series (first book called written in red – they have terrible titles but god, they’re worth it), then what are you doing with your life? like, not only is there the perfect logicality au to them (just sayin’), but god, it’s such an incredible series
the worldbbuilding is so cool and the characters are all great and god the ships are the damn hill i die on it’s got literally such a good “sort of enemies mostly just dislike each other to reluctant acquaintances to friends to lovers” ship and it deals with some serious issues rlly well and it’s got baby puppies!!!
like, they’re wolf puppies, but still, they are b a b e y
and finally (for now, at least), the mysterious benedict society, by trenton lee stewart
this book series was my childhood. i mean, there are so many other books i could be talking about right now that i utterly adore (the artemis fowl series springs to mind), but gosh, MBS just brings me such absolute joy to read that i just had to have it on here.
i’m not thinking straight at this point in the evening, but i just wanna say that i will never, not ever forget about reynie. about kate. about sticky. about constance. about rhonda and number two and milligan and miss perumal and my absolute son sq pedalian and, of course, i will never, never forget about mr benedict
it’s bright, and it’s bittersweet, and it’s beautiful.
and it’s good. simply, utterly, wonderfully good.
thank you for the ask, anon.
thank you.

Della’s Arc in the Rest of Season 2
All right folks, now that we’ve had a little time to process that absolute rollercoaster of emotions Ducktales delivered (aaaah!) yesterday, let’s chat.
Della is, at heart, a good person and a good mom. She loves her boys with all her heart. She dreams about them and talks about them all the time! But she’s been away from them for ten years, with absolutely no idea what they’re like.
Tumblr media
Look at this. She drew what she thought the boys would look like, but it’s nowhere near accurate. She has ideas in her head of what they’re like, and it’s gonna be a bit of a shock when she discovers who they really are.
Not to mention in The Golden Spear she talked about taking them to Neverrest and Toth-Ra, some of the first places they adventured. She’s going to be disappointed.
And the cherry on top of all this? She wasn’t there to see them grow up. She’s going to want to baby them, but they’re not babies. They already have a parent - Donald. Even though she’s their mom, her encroaching on Donald’s “territory” might feel weird or set them off the wrong way. They might not even know it.
Tumblr media
Della is a daring adventurer, but she can’t punch a few bad guys and suddenly have her kids exactly the way she imagined them. So Della’s going to have to do some growth. She’s going to have to learn to know her kids, instead of assuming she knows them. And she’s going to have to find the parenting style that works for all of them (including Donald). I’m guessing she’ll end up more like a doting aunt than a mom, but who knows.
Now let’s talk about Louie. This is Louie’s season, but to be honest he hasn’t done that much yet. Maybe that’s because Della factors into it. I’m The Most Dangerous Game... Night, Scrooge confided in Louie about the “sharper than the sharpies” trait. What’s significant about this scene is that Louie seemed happily surprised when he discovered that it’s something he has in common with Della. The picture everyone has painted of Della for the boys is a fearless, daring adventurer. That’s Dewey, not Louie. This will probably be highlighted in the episode after Nothing Can Stop Della Duck, Raiders of the Doomsday Vault.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of the triplets, Dewey has always been the one most interested in proving himself. He’s also always been the one always compared to Della. Although Louie isn’t in the description, I have the feeling this episode will have something to do with him. Maybe Della wanted to bring all of the kids along, to get to know them, but Webby felt like she was intruding, Huey needed more time to process, and, as a callback to The Most Dangerous Game... Night, Louie isn’t as interested in adventures. This will probably shock Della, and maybe her reaction hurts Louie’s feelings. Obviously she still loves him, but they’ve never met before. He has no idea.
Also, as we saw in The Secret(s) of Castle McDuck, Louie gets quiet when he’s angry/sad. When he’s annoyed or complaining (which we see a lot of), he’s loud, but when things get serious? He clams up. Huey, on the other hand, gets louder as the tension rises. Maybe Huey and Scrooge, in their excitement and emotion about Della, miss some sort of clue about Donald. Probably a transmission. Della got the TV to work, and Donald’s repaired his houseboat from nothing. If anyone can do it, he can. So maybe Louie, feeling lost and forgotten, embarks on a solo adventure to save Donald. (I’m on the fence if Webby should come along or not. On one hand, she’ll be so excited to see Della Duck, and they’re a lot alike. The Most Dangerous Game... Night showed us how similar she and Dewey are, even if they’re not always in synch. And like Della, The 87 Cent Solution showed us how she can be blind to her heroes’ faults. On the other, she’s not in Raiders of the Doomsday Vault. And she has been shown to get both quiet (“This is a family matter, and you are not family!”) and loud (after Lena “died”) when she gets upset, so it could go either way. She might feel left out, just like Louie, because Della’s not her mom. And she helped Dewey with his arc, so why not Louie? It’s fitting.) Also, to sweeten the deal, perhaps this is when Goldie comes around. Storkules might help out too, since he’d do anything for Donald and he was involved with Louie in Storkules in Duckberg. Either way, this could be great development for both Della and Louie.
