Anyone else feel like there’s been a distinct lack of Minnie appreciation in this whole D100 thing so far?

Random rambling thoughts on ✨WISH✨ before the movie comes out
- This movie is for the sleeping beauty girlies… or at least IT HAS TO BE. Any other vibe and I’m gonna be extremely disappointed. It’s already giving medieval European fairytale with gorgeous animation so they can’t fumble this bag. I’m not really sure yet what I expect from the plot but I just need a sleeping beauty energy to it idk idk. I don’t really know what I mean by it cause sleeping beauty is so contradictory in itself, it’s so epic but also so quiet and calm and simple… we’ll see
- This movie is gonna comment on astrology and the horoscope right right??? You cannot do a movie about wishes and stars and not give us a peak into the starry night the characters look upon to and study! If I don’t have a scene of asha discussing constellations then what’s the point 😒 but like even just the aesthetics in the background or something. I need it
- I know everyone knows this movie is set in Spain but the official sources say Iberian peninsula and u bet your ass that, as a portuguese gal, imma remind y’all about it cause we get so little representation while the Spanish get everything well now they’ll have to share 😭😭😭😭😭
- Asha having friends is so anti Disney princess of her 😭😭😭 those other girls only talk to animals. Tiana and Pocahontas are the only girls with a bff and that’s only 1, Asha has 7 😭😭😭 I’m not very impressed with their designs but I guess they can grow on me
- I’m guessing the movie is entirely in the kingdom and it’s nearby places like tangled and sleeping beauty, as opposed to movies like moana or frozen that force them out of their home in a long journey
- Do u guys think the Easter eggs will be subtle or Ralph breaks the internet kind of in your face? Cause disney is making a lot of promises, dozens of Easter eggs right? But I think the in your face crossover will be just for the once upon a studio short, and in the movie the cameos will be more Easter eggs and subtle. (Out of topic but have y’all seen that Lego trailer for the Disney princesses vs Gaston thing? I’m telling y’all rn, disney in gonna give up an official disney animation studios movie of the princesses all together in an adventure before 2040!! IM JUST SAYING!)
- I hope the musical numbers take notes from encanto in the dynamism of we don’t talk about Bruno and dreamlike sequences from surface pressure. I just don’t love when characters are forced to be stuck in reality, it feels very limited. Animation is supposed to break those restrictions. And like, not every musical number has to be like this, but I just want more than a character singing in point A, B and C u know? And I like how, for example, a character would start singing the song and then the 2nd half is a montage? Or like in when will my life begin where she starts singing, but then it’s all montage and she just sings again at the end. (Uncharted waters was a very good song with a very boring scene let’s be honest, and something like that is criminal but it would be even worse in animation)
- I’m really not sure what to expect from the plot and I haven’t really thought a]much about it but rn, if I had to guess, I’d say the movie is about a kingdom that parallels present day USA kkkk hear me out!!! The kingdom had low days of war but fought for independence and began from scratch. This family has magic and can grant people’s wishes and promises the people the equivalent of the American dream. But as generations pass, the king starts collecting more and more wishes without ever intending to grant them to the people or maybe the price of the wishes keeps getting higher. The "American" dream doesn’t exist anymore but people still believe in it cause they are powerless but hopefull. Basically the movie is gonna be about dethroning a tyrant and dismantling capitalism 😃 (look I’m not good with words or brain power but I think u understand what I mean). Maybe the king’s magic is fake, he just knows how to work with the stars own magic while no one else can. And in the end, Asha and her friends are gonna Robin Hood their way into granting the peoples wishes or just make then see that wishing only goes so far as you’re willing to work for your dream??… but like I’m serious, I really think this movie is gonna be a shade to America and is gonna go against everything bob iger represents

Why does reincarnated Mirabel give me Glee vibes?
I don’t know if you’ve seen the show, but there’s one scene where she’s calling out Mr Schue in season 3 and it reminds me of Mirabel hating on Encanto.
I do know the show, I haven’t seen it in years though, so I’m gonna check to make sure I’m thinking of the same scene.
I think this is it (but correct me if I’m wrong):
youtube
Though it’s not the same scenario. There is no appropriation of culture/stereotyping in this situation - Encanto was very good in terms of representation and Mirabel can admit that.
Yet the tone of the scene to Reincarnation is very similar. Mirabel is made to be feel like she’s being overdramatic and/or childish by some of the people at Disney, when she is definitely 100% in the right.
You’re messing with adult things here, Mirabel. These are our jobs, these are our livelihoods. And this was my life and it’s not a joke to me, although it seems to be one to you.
I fully believe there was a full on argument, of a similar vein, that she had with at least one person.
I feel like a lot of Mirabel’s intellect and sarcastic wit is a little brushed over in this AU, as I only really get to discuss moments where she’s overly anxious and traumatised. But she is a real thorn in Disney’s side, especially once she becomes a young adult herself and thus has a proper seat at the arguing table. In Reincarnation, she is the sole reason why Encanto hasn’t gotten a sequel of any kind.

I feel like a lot of people in the Encanto fandom see Mariano and Isabela's relationship with each other as distant or think that they're just acquaintances who got introduced to each other specifically for the purpose for them to get together
It doesn't make sense for it to be that way, though. Abuela Alma is a complex character, but I don't believe for a second that she'd force her granddaughter into a relationship, even if it seemed like they do actually love each other.
Plus the fact that the majority of the people in the Encanto have been in the Encanto their entire lives. It's a small town, everyone went to school together and everyone knows everyone.
Abuela and Señora Guzmàn are shown to be friends, at least with what we see in the movie and with the bits of information that we've received through multiple Q&As
This means that Isabela and Mariano (and Dolores) have probably known each other since before they got their gifts. They were probably all great friends, which gives us a base for Alma and Señora Guzmàn to push for a marriage between the two families.
And yes, there's the plot hole of Dolores being a part of the friend group. But Dolores's gift probably caused her to be absent due to getting overstimulated by all the noise in the Encanto.
So the friend group was really only Isabela and Mariano hanging out, with Dolores joining in whenever she could.
By the time they were teens, the friendship between the three probably faded, but they still smile and wave when they see each other, and they try to catch up whenever there's time.
Now, Isabela is definitely in town, walking around and talking to people, more than Dolores is. Because Isabela's gift requires her to do that, while Dolores's daily routine is probably something more like sitting on a hilltop and listening for problems that need solving.
So when the abuelas started wondering about when their kids were going to start to get into dating and such, they focused in on Isabela and Mariano, since that's who they saw interacting more of the time.
Now Mariano is a sweet guy, and I will fight anyone who disagrees with me. He is a good friend, and probably does a lot of things that could come off as romantic when interacting with Isabela and Dolores.
Alma and Señora Guzmàn probably assumed that Isabela and Mariano had feelings for each other. When they asked the two in question, they probably got responses like "oh, we're just friends! I don't think I have feelings for her/him"
And these are experienced old ladies. They've seen their fair share of romances blossom. They look at these kids and think that they just haven't realized their feelings for each other yet. They assume it's a friends to lovers trope falling into place right before their eyes.
So they hint at the two getting together. Mariano and Isabela don't know any better. They're told that the friend stuff they've been doing is romantic, so they switch it around in their minds.
It's not until they're well into their relationship that they start figuring out that they're not actually in love with the other. Isabela acknowledges is, but pretends to make Alma proud. Mariano probably denied it, and forced any thought like that to the bottom of his mind, because he didn't want to disappoint Isabela if he rejected her and she was in love.
Anyway, my entire point is that we shouldn't reduce Isabela and Mariano's relationship to a cold and distant one, just because it's shown in the movie that there was never any true love between them. I could go further into this, and I'll answer any ask I get about my opinions on any Encanto related things, and I might end up writing a fic about it to go deeper into it.
I just feel like not enough people talk about this specific relationship enough, so I did.

Bruno and I are here to help you celebrate Encanto Milk Day, the fandom’s most cursed invention! I also included a screenshot of the origin of the meme, because the people deserve the truth.
Anyway, I haven’t seen anybody mention condensed milk yet, and I think somebody should, because that shit is ubiquitous in Spain and its former colonies, where milk would just go rancid like, super quickly. Or at least, that’s what I infer, here from Ireland with my Filipino mum, where the amount of people from Latin America I have met IRL is exactly zero.
I wanted to use a recipe from a culture I’m familiar with, but Colombian desserts really are wonderful, and you shouldn’t be scared to try them! The recipe site I use for Colombian dishes is here!

If it’s no trouble, could you please do Prompt 25 : “I want an answer, godammit” (smutty Pepa and Felix)???
Send me a prompt.
Of course! I decided to write a follow-up to a prompt I'd written previously for a really angsty AU. You can read the original prompt here and some additional lore here. The second post isn't necessary, but it does give some more context for this sequel. Since it ended up being very long, I decided to post it straight on ao3. I hope you enjoy!
@caramella116, here's the The Winner Takes It All piece you wanted!
Pepa wandered aimlessly up and down the cobblestoned streets. Although she’d been gone for a decade, the encanto was virtually unchanged. Sure, some new houses had been built to accommodate the growing community, but the school was still on the street to her left, the church in the plaza to her right, and the river surrounded it all. It was… familiar, comforting. After a decade away, it was good to come back to what she knew.
Speaking of familiar…Pepa’s eyes fell upon someone she had known very well. Known, past tense. Past. It was in the past. Still, butterflies fluttered in her stomach at the sight of the man she loved (past tense, right?) and she couldn’t help the rainbow that sprang over her head.
“Shoo!” She swatted at it like it was a pesky bug. It was bad enough not having her own feelings worked out without broadcasting them to everyone in the vicinity. She’d gotten so much better at this. Granted, controlling her feelings had been easier outside the encanto, where her gift didn’t work. Come on… She squeezed her eyes shut and breathed deeply. Clear skies, clear skies.
To her relief, the skies did clear, but not before someone could notice.
“Pepa!”
She never expected to hear his voice calling her name again. Yet here he was, approaching her, all too suddenly.
“F-Félix.” Pepa’s fingers flew up instinctively to rake through her hair but met nothing but air. Right. She’d made the impulsive decision to cut it a few months ago. She was tired of feeling weighed down, of hiding. Living in the city had opened a whole new world to her, and, feeling brave, she chopped off her mane. At the time, she felt lighter, free, but now… Now she wished she had a long braid to toy with instead of hair that only came a couple inches below her shoulders. Thankfully, she was spared the burden of responding.
“You’re back.” His eyes ran over her, taking her in.
Feeling exposed, Pepa crossed her arms over her chest. “I am.”
“I didn’t think I would ever see you again.” Félix sighed, shifting the shovel he had slung over one shoulder to the other.
“Me neither.” She gave him a once over. Neither one of them had remained unchanged. His afro had begun greying around the temples, and the years had made him softer around the middle. But he still had the same infectious smile and warm eyes that had made her tummy turn for so many years. “I wasn’t planning on coming back,” she found herself admitting. He’d always had a way of getting her to reveal more about herself than she’d wanted.
“Well I’m glad you changed your mind.” He beamed at her. One hand came up to wipe the sweat off his brow.
The action snapped Pepa out of her trance. “I’m sorry, am I keeping you from something?” She wrung her hands together in the absence of her long locks. “I should let you go.” She swept a tendril of hair behind her ear, the sensation still foreign to her.
She wasn’t expecting his hand on her arm. “Pepa, I approached you,” he pointed out. “Fuck, I haven’t seen you in so many years and all of a sudden you’re back.” He let out a low whistle, shaking his head in disbelief.
“I bet Emilia loves it when you use language like that,” Pepa muttered under her breath, but unfortunately Félix caught it.
“It doesn’t really matter what she thinks about it.”

Hi, I'm curious about something and you're like the one person I know who knows both characters so what would a meeting between Usnavi and Bruno be like? Just wondering
(this is broadway usnavi btw, i haven’t seen the movie)
okay! so, i actually think that bruno and usnavi have way more in common than you’d think just from a quck glance.
usnavi is clearly deeply loved by his community, whereas bruno is shunned by his, but (at least before usnavi’s character arc in the show) both of them feel on the outside of things. it’s probably not a coincidence that usnavi’s the only one breaking the fourth wall in ITH. he’s really no more the main character than, say, nina, but he is the one who chats with the audience directly, and i think that reflects the fact that he feels, like the audience, that he’s watching everyone else’s lives rather than participating himself. the world spins around while i'm frozen to my seat. and isn’t that so similar to bruno, sitting isolated in his room, watching visions of everyone else’s lives but never getting out himself, or putting on his rat plays in his space behind the wall? they both view themselves more in the role of narrator or observer, not a character with their own arc.
it’s obviously got a different vibe. i don’t think usnavi realises quite to what extent he’s loved by the people around him (he seems absolutely baffled by sonny and vanessa being upset about him leaving) but he definitely does not feel unloved. i think bruno also doesn’t realise how loved he is, but in his case he also has very good reasons to feel unloved, and is much less welcomed by the wider community (though perhaps when he was younger, this was different). and i definitely get the impression that usnavi’s relationship with his parents was an affectionate one, not a fraught one like bruno’s.
but there is that sense, for both of them, of having lost the thread of their individual identity under all the pressure of legacy and lost parents and their role and duty to their community. and both of them are stuck. they're living a life that isn't where they want it to be, there are things they want and relationships they crave but they can't move out of the place they're trapped in. there is also the sense that some part of is their own subconscious doing.
i always interpret usnavi’s as a result of anxiety that largely comes from losing his parents, a past that he can't change but wishes he could: what if he makes a wrong choice and something else bad happens, what if he loses someone else or loses his memory of his parents? better keep things exactly the same, to be safe. and bruno's as a result of seeing futures that he can't change but wishes he could, and what if he is cursed? what if he is the reason things go wrong? better knock on wood, hold your breath, spin in a circle, to be safe. when your life throws you a pain that you can't control, you create a routine that you can control, even if it eventually takes over and controls you.
usnavi's goal for a long time is to go back to the dominican republic, apparently, but until abuela claudia wins the lotto it really doesn’t look like he’s got any intention of taking steps towards that. and bruno is very similar - doesn’t actually manage to run away, because he’s too connected to his home and his family, but he doesn’t know how to change things so he just hides, stays the same, watches everything else grow and change without him. i’d bet that usnavi and bruno have had similar thoughts so many times of like “oh i’ll ask vanessa out, i'll sell the store, i'll move to DR. one day. probably. not yet.” and “i’ll talk to my sisters, i'll leave the encanto properly, i'll go outside. at some point. probably. not yet.”
and part of that pressure is external circumstances, but part of it is self-imposed, as a defense mechanism. if you lose yourself in your work or your duty to that extent, if you hide behind the things that are honest about it, then you always have an excuse to tell yourself for the rest. someone does always need coffee or a vision or a stable job or to be protected, that's true, so you can pretend that you're putting that big plan off because you're just too busy with all that other stuff, not because you're scared to do it. stay in the store. stay behind the walls. part of it is kindness, or duty, or practicality, yes. part of it is fear.
oh and speaking of abuelas! (though, again with a very different vibe depending who we're talking abut) i think both of them are very led by their love and respect for the respective maternal figures in their lives, but that this clouds their own desires/goals. claudia says to her own mama, "i spent my life inheriting dreams from you", and i think that without meaning to, the same happens with her and usnavi about moving to the dominican republic. as soon as it was him making the choice alone, he realised that it wasn’t what he wanted. i think there’s always some part of him that does want that a little, i doubt claudia picked that up from nothing, but it’s possible that she read usnavi's vague ideas of going to DR more strongly through her own experience of missing where her family came from, the part of her that regrets not going back to cuba, and didn’t recognise that the indecision probably meant part of usnavi felt it wasn't right for him.
and that’s so similar for alma, though it's much more harsh and hurtful in this instance: she parents her children and grandchildren based on her own history and regret and fear and wishes. she wants a safe place to hide, she wants outsiders not to find them or cause them harm: bruno lives up to that and then some when he goes into the walls. and he convinces himself it's the best choice for himself and for the family, but it isn’t. they probably don’t even realise that it’s something he learned from her example.
neither claudia nor alma mean any harm by this, they try their best, and they sacrifice for it: alma locks away her own grief and her trauma to build a whole community from the ground. claudia could use her lotto money to go back to la vibora after days into weeks into years away from home, but it’s puerto plata that they’re getting a plane ticket for, usnavi's island, not hers. they’re both misguided, their own pasts biasing their perception, but they do love their kids.
anyway!! you asked what it'd be like if they met, not for a list of things they have in common or for an extensive meta about abuelas. tough shit i guess you got that too.
so. i think that usnavi may see the similarities between himself and bruno, but he doesn’t strike me as the kind of person who dislikes people who he can see his own flaws/insecurities in. if anything it just makes him reach out to them more. i think he would want to help. he’s been scared and lonely and saddled with too much responsibility from too young an age and felt like he lost everything before, too, but he’s doing so much better now, and he'd want to extend that hope to anyone else who is struggling similarly. and what bruno needs more than anything is to be shown kindness and acceptance, both things that usnavi can very easily give. i also think usnavi has absolutely no concept of people being weird, he’s extroverted and makes friends easily but he’s not exactly Mr Social Cues himself. bruno could say the most absolute batshit thing you’ve ever heard and usnavi would just be like “lmao yeah i get u :)))"
bruno, on the other hand, probably would struggle to like someone who he felt was too much like himself, but i don’t think he’d see usnavi that way. someone who has struggles, fears, insecurities that bruno does relate to, but who unlike bruno is also bubbly and bouncy and chatty, and who is trying so, so hard all the time to be positive (even when it would be healthier to let themselves feel angry, or sad, or hurt, even when it's blatantly obvious that they are feeling those things), someone who helps other people when they're in the middle of their own crisis and who thinks of themselves as just a totally unremarkable, ordinary, nothing-special person because they don’t see the way that everyone gravitates towards their warmth and kindness. he’s not going to see himself in usnavi. he’s going to see mirabel.
they’d get along great.

Ranma type au where there are some springs in the Encanto that not everyone is aware of because they were in the area before the Encanto's mountains formed. There's several of them and they're cursed springs. If you fall in you turn into the last thing that drowned in that spring.
Mirabel was exploring the area alone when she was 7 because everyone was too busy for her so she left to play/explore since previously she'd never left the inner part of the village.
She found the springs and while leaning into one fell in. She managed to get out but didn't realize that she had changed form. She turned into a boy because the last thing that drowned in the pool had been a young boy.
Shes still herself just her hair had gotten shorter and her face was more similar to what her Abuelo's had looked like when he was a kid.
After that incident she learned that when she had warm or hot water on her, she would turn back to normal but any time she got wet, like if Pepa rained on her, she'd turn into a boy again.
Everything was fine and dandy until she got into her teens and she turned into her male form in front of the family.
Alma passed out because she looked so much like Pedro she almost thought he'd come back
I haven’t watched that yet, I’ve only seen clips but???? From what I’ve seen, it’s very funny tbh. Anyway, very cool concept⁉️⁉️ love to see Alma damping near having a heart attack. Only to realize it Mirabel. And imagine if she water spilled on her and Alma ended up seeing Casita fall on her. Tragic <\3

Elemental Review
OH. MY. GOD.
I have no clue why it took me so long to watch this movie. I VERY aware that I am so late to this movie and I’m kicking myself as to why.
I had THOUGHT I had grown out of Disney and traditional children movies but apparently they are not ready for me to do so because this movie was a banger. I cannot speak for the rest of the movies that Disney, Pixar, or any other children’s animation movie company has put out this year. I didn’t watch those; Especially the new “Wish” movie that everyone is cracking down so hard on.
However, I did watch elemental.
I don’t know what it is about the Disney movies recently, but Elemental, much like Encanto, was AMAZING. I even watched the movie twice in one day because I needed to share it with my girlfriend. (To which they hated it because it made them cry)
There is something about the plot and the messaging with in the movie meshing together so well that just had me in a chokehold. For those who haven’t had the pleasure of watching this movie, in simple terms, the movie is about the love story between a fire girl and a water boy. T That’s pretty basic Disney stuff. It’s just a love story. But where this movie really changes corse is under the surface of said love story. Elemental explores immigrant problems and racial discrimination in big cities, among other things. That alone is pretty astonishing, especially for a Disney film, which are traditionally just love stories. The movie also goes deeper into the interpersonal relationships in interracial relationships and how outside influences, such as societal differences and parental pressures can affect relationships. As someone who is in an interracial relationship myself, I absolutely gushed at this portrayal.
The movie starts off with Immigration story. I won’t go too far into it for those who haven’t seen it, but it was an amazing starting point of the movie. Even though the audience have no idea what’s going on because we don’t know the premise of this world and the rules of it yet, educated viewers, who are not the children that this is necessarily geared towards, will understand the hints that we are given. We further go onto the conflict of the story, which is centered around the main character, Ember, and her father’s shop. That’s where she meets city inspector, otherwise known as the Water-boy, Wade. From when they first met, you can see that Wade is definitely the one who fell first and oh my God, I love a good movie where the love interest falls in love first, no matter what gender.
The movie progresses and the movie it makes it clear that Ember’s parents do not like the idea of water people being around. Mostly Ember’s. In fact, Ember‘s father, Bernie, hates water people because of the racial discrimination that he has endured in the past due to water and fire not mixing. They quite literally combat each other. His main and most memorable quote is “They keep trying to water us down”. Also, Ember does make it clear that Element City is not made with fire people in mind. She says “There will have to be a miracle to get me over that bridge.” The movie even showing the trains that push water off the sides that is very harmful to fire people. In the scenes featuring the city, there is water everywhere and while every other element is able to thrive in a water filled environment, it is clearly not sustainable for fire. This is a continuous discrimination towards fire people. Some people would argue that it’s not necessarily discrimination rather negligence and lack of better ways to fully support fire peoples needs. However, I don’t think that is plausible being seen that there are racial slurs in this movie geared towards the fire people.
Let’s not forget the iconic dinner scene, in which Ember meets Wade‘s family. Which in the scene his family were overall very welcoming towards Ember. However, they ultimately did not know how to react to her. At one point, Wade’s nephew almost pushes her into a pool of water asking her if she would die if she fell in. I’m aware that he is a kid but I was dumbfounded. Not helping their case, Wade’s uncle had told her that she speaks English surprisingly clear to which she replied, “It’s amazing what speaking the same language your entire life does”.
The dinner scene is also the scene where Wade first hints that he is in love with Ember. This is where she realizes that because they could never touch she doesn’t see the relationship working and it causes such a great sadness in her heart that she cries for the first time. This scene simultaneously tugged on a heartstring of mine, while reminding me that this is in fact a love story and not a political exposé on how people treat immigrants in America.
Throughout the movie, Bernie was consistently corrected on his English also. This annoys me throughout the movie. The words everyone corrected him on were words that you could tell what he meant. There was just no need to correct him and they did so just because he was wrong. Bernie really messed up his words when he was frustrated or flustered or feeling a great amount of emotion so it was warranted that he would mess up up on a language he had to learn so late in life.
I felt such a strong connection with Ember and Bernie, having such a strong connect to my father. They had such a good relationship. Sure they had their stuff but who doesn’t but they worked through it. I loved the healthy relationships throughout the movie but Burnie and Ember are my favorite.
The end of the movie also resonated a little hard with me too. As a person who has been called sensitive my entire life, Wade being such an emotional person showed me two things. It tells me that Disney is showing people that it was OK to be a little emotional, no matter if that means you have an uncontrollable temper or that means that you sob at every little sadness in life. As a person who can’t seem to get their emotions in check, that was such a good message to hear at the point that I am in life. The second thing that it showed me was Disney is trying to combat the idea that they have been pushing for literally a century about toxic masculinity. Never in my 17 years of life I have seen a Disney character (that was a male) cry so much. And on top of his crying, his family also cries the same amount as him showing them that they are emotionally mature people who can understand that being sensitive and having a lot of emotions isn’t necessarily a bad thing, even though they are seen to be a little dense.
Honestly, if I could, I would go on a literal 30 page tangent about how much I love this movie, and how much I wish that Disney would continue these types of movies for the next century to come, but I’m gonna spare you.
I don’t know if you haven’t got the message from this entire opinion piece but in my opinion, I think you should go watch this movie. Watch it with a loved one (or loved ones) and really soak in the messaging of the movie. Maybe you’ll hate it. Maybe you’ll find that some things were missing but I do think that it’s a movie worth watching. No matter if you find it horrible and it didn’t fully live up to the Disney potential that it could have, was it not still a good laugh?

So I’m not really in this fandom, and as such I expect I’m way behind the curve.  But I’m mildly obsessed atm with the song Surface Pressure from Encanto and the character of Luisa, and after several days spent down the YouTube reaction rabbithole, I’ve noticed something that I haven’t seen anyone else mention, and I feel compelled to put it out there:
youtube
This young woman isn’t just overworked, underappreciated, insecure, anxious and depressed.
She’s in Hell.
Take a good look at all the environments we see her and Mirabel pass through during the song.
Tumblr media
It’s all symbolic and metaphorical, of course.  But apart from the brief peaceful interlude during the song’s bridge (I stuck it at the end to contrast with the rest,) this stuff isn’t just challenging, it’s the stuff of nightmares.  There’s either some imminent existential threat, or subdued, foreboding colors and inhospitable terrain in just about every scene.
Cerberus and the flames in that sequence are the most obvious underworld-associated imagery, but scales were associated with measuring a person’s worth after their death in ancient Egypt and Greece, and even early Christianity.  And check out the rest: trapped in a giant coffee grinder, running through a blasted landscape covered with erupting steam geysers, aboard a ship doomed to sink in freezing water in the dead of night--even Luisa’s own glowing golden bedroom door looks ominous and threatening, set against the backdrop of storm clouds, with a tornado approaching, and about to tip onto her and Mirabel.
Carrying the world on one’s shoulders of course evokes the myth of Atlas, for whom it wasn’t just a burden: it was his eternal punishment.  (For rebellion, yet.  Disobedience literally carries a heavy price.)
Hanging off a mountain top?  Sure there’s a nice blue sky, but the imminent fall aside, the air up there is likely pretty thin, and the peak is also covered in snow--characteristic of Cocytus, the frozen ninth circle in Dante’s Inferno, and not something two girls who’ve lived their whole lives in a tropical valley paradise have likely seen much of or would be equipped to handle.
Oh, and this scene, which I forgot to grab when I was putting the big pic together:
Tumblr media
Again, nice and sunny, but.  At first I wasn’t sure whether those boulders and clouds coming at them from the mountain in the background might be a landslide set off when the girls fell in the previous scene.  But after checking out the geography of Colombia, I think it’s just as likely the start of a volcanic eruption.  Colombia is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, and the real-life Caño Cristales river which inspired the one in the movie (light blue dot) lies not too far from a mountain range with active volcanoes.

---
Luisa is canonically nineteen years old, and she’s already fucking exhausted.  Look at the top right image in the big pic.  Her head is bowed with despair as she sings “...never stop, whoah.”
At about age three, she watched as her older sister received her Gift and became the beautiful, graceful, flower-spewing perfect princess adored by all.  A few years later, she got her own Gift...and got a bunch of muscles, which I’m sure was fun at first.  Until she became the workhorse of the family and the entire community, hauling around without question whatever heavy loads anyone asked, up to and including other beasts of burden (hence the donkeys.)
She’s been doing that for fourteen years.  That’s nearly three-quarters of her very young life.  And when she was about nine, her little sister, who was supposed to receive a Gift of her own and with it, some capacity for self-defense (because literally any of the family Gifts, from the Casita itself on down, grant the Gifted one that--some potential to keep themselves safe) was left without one.  So Mirabel needed a protector--as far as anyone knew, for the rest of her life.
Bless her great, kind, generous heart, it’s obvious that Luisa doesn’t blame or resent Mirabel for that.  She loves her little sister.  But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t feel the weight of the added responsibility.
We see in the bridge of the song and toward the end that Luisa, while maybe not quite as lithe and polished as her sister Isabela, is beautiful and graceful in her own right.  She can sing and dance and hope and dream with the best of them, when she is allowed to.  The pink clouds, sunshine, glitter and unicorns not only evoke the classic Disney Princess aesthetic, they’re also pretty close to common depictions of Heaven.
But at the start of the film, Luisa thought she’d never get to have any of that.  Pressure like a drip, drip, drip that’ll never stop.  That was what she had to look forward to.  No thanks, no joy, no relaxation, no pleasure.
Friends?  Not that we saw.  Dating?  Love?  Children?  She probably hadn’t been given a chance to figure out whether she’d even be interested in any of that.  And if she was, who would ever want to date the town mule?
Luisa was in Hell until Mirabel stepped up and rescued her for a change, along with the rest of the family.

Hey, are you and katsu going to see the new disney movie that's coming out this November..? you probably heard of it, it's called "Wish".
Low-key excited to see it. The art texture is quite interesting, not bad but different! I guess it's supposed to be a mix between 2D + 3D.
Also, we finally get to see a new disney villain! it's been a while since disney gave us a good and interesting disney villain, just like the original ones!
What do you guys think? Have you seen the trailer?
Hi Anon! Sorry for the late reply.
We didn’t even know about the new movie before getting your ask and haven’t watched the trailer yet… so thank you for telling us! lol
We don’t really catch any Disney movies (or any other movies for that matter) right when they come out, but we’ll watch it at some point in the future! We really liked Encanto, so who knows. I hope the new villain is fun, but I also don’t get my hopes up. Let it be a pleasant surprise if it ends up being good and fun…

I would love to hear your rambles about Ur fics if u want, it doesn't have to be spoilers or anything, just like, your line of thought, why your gave each character those characteristics and stuff (feral wild my beloved 🩷🩷🩷)
Tumblr media
Uh YES talking about the boys is my favorite thing 🥰🥰
I knew when I started writing Linked Moments I wanted it adjacent to Linked Universe, but not in the same timeline. I like the characters, their designs, some of their personality traits, but I want to do something unique!
The first few stories are always rougher as I find a handle on their personalities and how I want them to interact. Wild’s easiest because a) favorite, b) I read a lot of fics with him and c) I started replaying botw in preparation for TotK.
There’s some active decision on personality, but I really enjoy “discovering” each character as I write. Four, for example, fights every step of the way and just doesn’t flow well. I’m still trying to find a vibe off him and how he fits into the group.
Wild, Twi, Ledge, and Hyrule are definite favorites so we get a lot more of them. Wolfie is Wild’s safe person and I adore their interactions. I wanted him to be someone Wild could relax with when he’s still learning to trust everyone else. Also, someone who would connect to his more feral behavior.
I like to think that Wild was pretty darn wild when he first woke up. Obviously some basics remain, but you can’t convince me that boy didn’t put everything in his mouth to see if he could eat it 🤣
With Yiga disguised on the road he tended to stick to the outskirts unless he came in to a stable. He spent a lot of time with the dogs there, as well as observing wolves in the wild. He really likes wolves, despite an…incident we’ll explore later 👀
Hyrule is my cinnamon roll and he can totally kick your butt while smiling sweetly. I like his dynamic with Legend, so I try to keep that, but I also like having him buddied up with Wild.
I usually pick one or two relationships for each oneshot to focus on because otherwise it’s a lot to balance. Also, I want to show the different moments of growth between the pairs.
Thinks like Fae Touched, Wing Bois, and other oneshots are opportunities for me to explore different dynamics or back histories. Wild and Wolfie/Twilight is more of a precedence in Linked Moments.
Legend is our grouchy boy, but he understands trauma responses a little too well. He periodically recognizes what’s going on with Wild and really steps up into a calm role to help. He tries to provide what he needed but didn’t have 😭 It’s those moments that he’s very similar to Hyrule.
Warriors uhhhhh had ended up with some personal influences, woops. My writing has always been fairly personal in some way; either the genre, themes, or feelings. Lots of family fluff (especially in Encanto, which I wrote for before this). Writing is usually more grounded if it’s based on personal experience, so it’s a mix of that or straight up research. Usually if I’m worried about reception I post it under an alt account.
Time is a struggle for me although I know many readers liked his chapter with the Champion. He and Wild don’t operate the same and it puts a bit of a wedge on their interactions.
Wind is a loose cannon careening through the background and bodily throwing himself at people. He’s a tactile kid (even if he is a teen). I like seeing him have some depth, he’s a capable hero on his own.
Sky is a lot more of a gremlin at heart than I thought when I started writing. We haven’t seen much of him yet and he likes to cover up the chaos love with his “chosen hero” vibes.
I think I covered everyone and I’ve uh….been rambling a while lol 😅 Thank you for the ask! I’ve missed writing on vacation :( please feel free to drop further questions or I’ll tag you if I think of something!

So I went to see the barbieheimer movie
Here’s what I think as a major in film studies
Very witty humor gen z x funny millennial
Would’ve had such good fun writing this script I would feel like
Hard to pay attention to at some points like how I still need to watch everything everywhere all at once for the third time in a row just to catch everything
5 seconds in and I already forgotten about the 2001 reference was cackling
Was ridiculously grinning throughout the whole movie because as a film major haven’t seen anything like it yet
I hope pray and manifest I make something like this in my career please
Honestly the movie that might define this generation
The only bad part of this to me was the fact they worked everything up just to have everything the same again
I am actually very frustrated with the ending to make it a stronger ending it should’ve been everyone works together instead of having it the same as it was before *screams in pillow*
It could’ve been like encanto where we all wanted mirable to have a miracle but in the end she was even better at just being herself instead of her gaining her power
I guess the message of this is there usually isn’t always a black and white way to everything sometimes we have to work together to meet in the middle which is what some problems could’ve been contained if we’ve just tried compromising

Noticed a SWEET, GAY-ASS little detail in Encanto the other day, and since I haven’t seen anyone whooping about it yet, I figured I’d share it here for all my favorite media enjoyers!!! *ofmd Frenchie voice* Cheers, m’queers!!!
While Mirabel is going through her slo-mo revelation of emotional truth, she passes through a group of dancing townspeople on the ground floor. And there’s a specific couple that caught my eye...
Tumblr media
Now, these two COULD be brothers or friends, who am to gatekeep physical affection?! But...COME ON.
Tumblr media
These two men are OBVIOUSLY deeply in love. I’ve named them Rafael and Diego, and I LOVE THEM!!! You go, fellas!!!

Heyyyy wanna hear more about the encanto fandorm since I haven’t heard of it for a while 👉👈
Oo sure, I have the basic dorm structure/story down-
So the dorm leader is Enrique Castillo, twsted from Abuela. He has been the dorm leader for the past 2 years (he's a third year) and for the last year it was his boyfriend as his vice dorm leader (who died in a blot accident). Since then he's extremely controlling about how much magic is used and where. Even occasionally checking his dorm members pens/gems to see how much blot has accumulated and if there's too much he bans then from using magic until it calms down.
The true current vice dorm leader is Andres Quintana, oldest of the triplets (with Nacio being the middle child and Valeria being "the baby"). They are all second years. Andres is twsted from Julieta, Nacio is twsted from Pepa and Valeria is twsted from Bruno.
The dorm structure is divided into 3 sections: Andres leads one, Nacio leads another and Valeria leads the last one (or used to). Andres's section is more of the people who "do things" in the dorm, so if their UM involves helping others/creation. Nacio leads the "feel-ers", people who have UMs based more on emotion or may need more attention/support. Valeria got the "miscellaneous" students. Those who have a strange UM or have yet to discover theirs (who could later change sections).
Their story starts with their orientation day for the new first years (aka when Mirabel oc joins the dorm), like always Enrique had Valeria do a reading about the new students and when she saw possible chaos she hid it from Enrique. Valeria has a strong UM but it is one that leads her close to overblotting whenever she uses it so Enrique is harsher on her(also her readings can be negative and he wants everything to be "happy and perfect" because if its not it leads to negative emotions which lead to overblotting)
After being pressured by both Enrique and Nacio, she runs away. Her family thinks she has left the school but she still turns in her schoolwork to professors. But she's nowhere to be seen. Having a whole group of students without their leader begins to affect the dorm (and the section leaders). Nacio becomes more frantic and nervous trying to "make it up" to Enrique while Andres hides his emotions and says everything is okay (while both stress about their little sister).
Enrique, now isolated and having his students talk about how he is the cause for all the stress in the dorm begins to crumble leading to his overblot. To try to solve his OB is a hunt to find Valeria and reconnect the dorm while also acknowledging how overbearing the dorm can be. Since before his overblot there was stress for all the members of Milavela to be perfect to "not bother the dorm leader" after Valeria's disappearance.
