Some fluffy head canons I have about the Baldurs Babes
mainly at camp :)
Gale stops tav to lace their boots, sarcastically tutting as he does it.
Karlach holds her hands round someones bowl and cups to warm them if they cool down too much. (Mama K microwave™)
Jaheira and Halsin share nightcaps and chat about the tadpole team. Mainly laughing at their comparative lack of experience - always ends on a 'they're good eggs tho' vibe.
Astarion and Shadowheart rate people's hair to eachother as an injoke, tav hears them mumbling numbers behind them whenever they speak to someone.
Lae'zel asks Gale to explain and pronounce things when no one is around because the 'annoying wizard' won't make fun, he's too eager to teach.
Jaheira has the best bedtime stories but they get Karlach hyped up and she asks a lot of questions till Astarion begs her to be quiet. Wyll takes mental notes for his own storytelling.
Karlach will force a game of 'I Spy' any time there is silence on the road.
Wyll is very good at little random gifts, he just remembers anything someone mentions to him. He's also low-key emotional if you return that kindness, 'you remembered?! 😭'
Halsin stops, kneels and whispers as he points and shows tav interesting plants or animals he spots when walking. 'look there's the mother and her babies' type shit. (He is camp dad(dy) ok)
Wyll teaches Lae'zel fencing. She's too keen though and tries to pin him down. She is not as graceful... But she has fun... chk!
Gale keeps a tiny portrait of Tara on him, you can't tell me modern au Gale's phone wouldn't be full of cat pics.
Astarion watches over the camp at night, he acts like he 'might as well/ I'm the only one lurking in the dark around HERE darlings' but sometimes he secretly gets a little teary looking at his first real friends all together.
Shadowheart writes moody poetry. She would tell Gale but she doesn't care for his taste... Or his possible critiques. If he ever did find her journal though he would be VERY enthused.
Astarion and tav will play with people's wardrobes when looting. Tav loves a funny hat and Astarion will do impressions of who he thinks would wear such god's awful attire.
Gale and Wyll play chess together after dinner some nights. They both say progressively cheesy lines when they take pieces, which is its own game itself at this point.
Halsin would quietly sing or hum to owlbear baby and scratch at night. Little lullabies and he'd probably tuck them in too. OR he'd be big daddy bear and snuggle up, especially when owlbear is scared and misses his mum.
The gang have played 'never have I ever' ONE time and ONE time only. It was a messy night.
... Jaheira was 100% last man standing.

Some notes on Wilson's marriages/divorces, and how he met House:
• House didn't just meet a freshly divorced Wilson. He met barely married Wilson, who just got notified about his #1 divorce by a lawyer, not his wife
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
• Wilson walked around with papers on hand, long enough to give House a chance to sneak a peek. The same day he received the news. (there's a chance it was some sort of middle step in the divorce procedure, but "just served", checkmate your honor)
• House 100% knew that when he bailed him out. No, I don't have any concrete evidence besides "it's fucking House"
Tumblr media
• House had Wilson observed the entire time to know he didn't open the papers. The divorce lawyer prob gave him an idea of what it is, and he was just marinating in the suffering juice
• House had to be nosy and stealthy when he checked the package Wilson clung to, he saw what's written on it
• They didn't actually talk at the conference itself, so House did it silently too
• There was a law firm address on the papers, and you couldn't just google shit then. House's had to remember it to investigate it further, or he already knew of the firm (or it said "BLAH LAW FIRM BLAH HERE'S YOUR DIVORCE PAPERS, LOSER", which is possible)
• Wilson likely opened them in a hotel room (or he looked at the package sadly/angrily there too), needed a drink, and House was at the bar
Tumblr media
• House was watching Wilson at that conference, then at the bar, then meltdown over the song, then the whole fight and the mess, then the detention, and was like yeah I'll bail that
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
• "First words you ever said to me." This is when they first talked, Wilson was in jail and the one in need
• Ok alright, hear me out, if House didn't know what the papers were at the time of bailing. There are 2 paths for him to find out
• Wilson STILL had them on hand in jail
• Or Housey saw them at Wilson's hotel room. Yeah
• It's been over the decade since they've met and they both vividly remember the details of that drunk night (I get why for storytelling purposes. Still... Much to think about)
Tumblr media
• That conference is either the last one, or one of the lasts, House attended. And that one was already boring to House without Wilson. 15 years prior to s06e06 "Known Unknowns", can't do the timeline magic I just eyeball it
Tumblr media Tumblr media
• House also introduced Wilson to Cuddy pretty soon, since she was a witness to the levels of despair he was apparently in
• House might've pestered Cuddy to hire him, or she chose to do so herself (whenever she was dean). Maybe House chased away some poor oncologist to make an opening. Even if House isn't as obsessed with Wilson at the start of season 1, he's always plotting
• There's the brother thing too. Wilson still fresh out of med school, still divorcing, still guilty af and looking for the brother in Princeton, so he was happy to work there
• Prior to that, Wilson was working 2 jobs to support himself and Sam and was ready to follow her to Baltimore
• The divorce and meeting House happened in 1991, the same year USSR completely fell apart. Just thought I'll throw that in #educational
Tumblr media Tumblr media
• Wilson was married, non-fraudulently, for 12 years total
• Marriage #1 has only lasted 1 year
• That means every marriage House was present for has lasted longer #math
• Wilson found a way to get fulfilled while in the marriage
• Now he's got a needy bitch with infinite problems and who will slurp any poison he has to siphon
• I'd argue House is what made Wilson bearable at home
• At the same time, House is what kept Wilson away from home, ultimately contributing to the divorce
Tumblr media Tumblr media
• Wilson himself describes his marriages as crappy - he doesn't really need help destroying them. House still helps~✨
• Timeline gets wonky, but there couldn't have been much of a downtime between marriages, a couple of years max
Tumblr media
• "Fell in love at the wedding" - whatever the fuck that means for Wilson
• Either Wilson met Sam through that wedding, and she also aimed to work in medicine - how they've connected. Or they went there as a couple, both being med students? Got high on emotions and jumped into marriage
• Wilson speedruns relationships once he's in them, so it could've gone "hey that was a nice wedding, how about we have our own?"
Tumblr media
• He fucking sucks at proposals, his looks and general air of niceness carried him all 3 times, I will not be hearing any objections on the matter
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
• When Wilson talks to Cameron about cheating. He says, "I have (cheated). I always told them"
• "Them"
• It's could've been every marriage (#1, #2 and #3). If boy managed to sneak in cheating in his 1-year lightning marriage #1, while he was studying + 2 jobs (now I don't doubt his time management skills, but it's still a hassle. On the other hand, all that stress couldn't have been helping)
• Or it could be #1 and #2, or #1 and #3. But #3 is pretty much a certainty (he flirts with nurses on screen, House is also there), and it's "them", so why would he randomly stop in the middle? Don't think so
• What's most likely is - #2 and #3. When arguing with Sam (#1) again she didn't mention or allude to the cheating, her problem was that Wilson didn't communicate ANY emotions to her, she even admitted to House she made the most mistakes in that marriage, let's say there's some truth in that
• Wilson either didn't tell Sam about cheating, she didn't have a problem with it, or he lied to Cameron
• OR he didn't cheat on Sam
• He started to cheat after the first divorce AND his marriages started to last longer, which is funnier too
• He could've started cheating prior to House entering the picture, but much more likely - after. Divorce and/or House are the cause
• Speaking of. Meeting House is very tightly linked to the #1 divorce. Every time Wilson would think back on it, he would have to think about all the turmoil and getting bailed by House. And vice versa - every time he'd think back on meeting House...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
• "I met someone who made me feel funny. And I didn't want to let that feeling go." Another Cameron talk. Ur honor, there's something on that wall
• btw, he is STILL married while meeting House, so if you hilson 1st-night-fuck truther, that meeting is his cheater origin story in a more practical sense. He then could've really meant all the marriages, but then he lied about telling Sam/Cameron, he might not count it since he's divorcing to tell Sam
• Ultimately, he's a huge liar, and I'm wasting my time. What I'm saying - nothing is really off the table with this guy in terms of hcs
• Aftermaths of #2 and #3 aren't really talked about like #1. It must've been really nuclear
• House says neither of them recovered from (#1) divorce to Wilson's face, Wilson doesn't contest that in any way. Even tho House didn't know Wilson before the divorce he usually right on the money with these things
• After the divorce #2 Wilson got 3 legged cat
• After failing to secure marriage #4 (#1 part 2) he got a diabetic cat
• Just like the thing he has with missing phone calls, after every divorce, consciously or not, he might expect a savior to bail him out
• After and during #3 he crashed at House's, then surfed hotels, then moved in with a dying patient, then Amber's, then House moved in with him (still Amber's)
• Maybe his wives kept taking properties in the divorce, and he just stopped getting them
• Man frankly didn't have a home for a while (HOMELESS BUT NOT HOUSELESS)
• Then Wilson finally commits and gets the place for himself and House, from Bonnie (#2)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
• Wilson adamantly remains on good terms with his ex-wives (but not random exes. One helps House with a prank, House kept tabs bc of course)
• But Wilson thinks they hate him. Did he ever pay attention to them?
• While spending all the time with House, then cheating, telling his wives about it, Wilson gave them more attention and emotions to delay the divorce
• He also learned how not to get attached in marriage, to not get destroyed by the divorce (excellent gambit if you expect your marriage to fail)
• He has a better support system now too. Can't believe House is your support system, fucking lmao and ouch. Cuddy is his only other friend we see, maybe Stacy at some point (he kept in touch with after the incident)
• All his other friends and family we hear next to nothing about, at best they're surface level
• In season 5 he's only visited by the coworkers/House's team + Cuddy <- all that is pretty much House's tolerance circle
• House is pathetic, but Wilson is something else entirely

steddie prompt! steve struggling with his dyslexia and feeling like he isnt smart enough compared to eddie and the kids?
In an effort to, in his words, "convert him to the light side," Dustin had given Steve an armful of what he deemed "essential reading" and sent him away to "learn the ways of the Force."
If Steve didn't like Star Wars so much, he would've made fun of that little nerd.
But, honestly, he's a little grateful. With no more monsters to slay and it being way too cold to venture outside of his house to go swim or play basketball, the books fill up a good chunk of time.
Too good a chunk.
It's taking him way too long to get through them.
He didn't try The Hobbit or Lord of the Rings because those looked way too intimidating. Dune's first twenty pages were boring as shit, and Ender's Game was a lot, to say the least.
So, he's been making his way through A Wrinkle in Time.
Slowly making his way through it. Too slowly.
Steve has been quickly reminded about why he hasn't voluntarily read a book since elementary school, and why he stopped reading the required books in high school.
It's hard. Reading sucks.
He doesn't know how other people get through it when the letters don't make sense and seem to switch, like how "b" and "d" or "f" and "t" look way too similar.
"Whatcha readin'?"
Steve looks up from the book - god, it's probably taken him at least an hour to get through chapter one, hasn't it - to find Eddie in the doorway of the living room.
Guess he's taking advantage of the spare key, Steve thinks to himself, but he's not mad about it, not even a little.
"A Wrinkle in Time," he says, holding up the book so Eddie can see the cover.
Eddie lights up. "Oh, I love that book! I think the last time I read it, I was in, shit, maybe fourth grade?"
Steve knows he didn't mean it, but damn. That hurt a little bit.
He can't even get through a book Eddie read when he was in elementary school?
"What part are you at?"
Steve tucks the book against his chest so Eddie doesn't see how the bookmark isn't very far in. "Not very. Just met Mrs. Which. It's kind of hard to get through-"
"Oh, yeah," Eddie nods. "It took me, like, three days."
"- because the letters keep switching."
Eddie frowns. "What?"
"The letters," Steve says. "Like, they're moving a lot for this book. I don't know why."
Eddie looks at him blankly.
Oh.
"Does that... not happen for you?"
Eddie shakes his head.
Steve huffs out a laugh because of course this would be a uniquely him problem. Of course people like Dustin and Eddie and the rest of the party would like reading, because of course they would be able to do it right.
"I guess I really am stupid."
"It took me three tries to get through my senior year," Eddie says seriously, putting his hand on Steve's shoulder. "Does that make me stupid?"
"No," Steve says instantly. It doesn't. Just because Eddie wasn't good at school doesn't mean he isn't smart. He's a brilliant storyteller and musician, and both of those take brains.
Steve doesn't have a hobby that takes brains because he just... doesn't have enough. Plain and simple. That's how it's always been.
"Ok, then you're not stupid for having trouble reading," Eddie says like it's the simplest thing in the world.
"But-"
"But what? We're all gonna struggle with something. For me, it was school. For you, it's reading. It's why we've got other people to fill in the gaps."
Other people don't fill in the gaps. Steve does. Steve stretches himself thin, makes sure he's everywhere at once to make sure the kids and Robin and Eddie are okay.
No one else can do that because. Well.
Steve has to be irreplaceable somehow. He's gotta be necessary somehow.
This is the only way they need him.
"Get out of your head, martyr," Eddie says, reading his mind. He's not as good at that as Robin is - Steve doesn't think anyone will ever be able to read him like Robin can - but he can still do it.
It's weird, just like Eddie is. Steve's learned to love weird over the past few years.
"Do you want me to stick around?" Eddie asks.
"You can stay, if you want," Steve says.
"I always want to stay with you," Eddie says, and damn if that sentence doesn't take Steve's breath away. "But I figured I'd ask."
So, Eddie lays his head in Steve's lap as Steve dives back into a world of tesseracts and space and time, and when Steve tilts the book down and points to a word that just isn't making sense, Eddie reads it for him.
He doesn't comment on how often he hears the pages flip.

Floating platforms in Hollow Knight are weird, lore-wise
Soooo I haven't seen anyone actually talk about this, but those things just keep *bugging* me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These things.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why did Team Cherry put these particular platforms in the background?
Ok, there are numerous floating platforms in this game, of course, because the player needs them to traverse big spacey rooms vertically. They're not even an issue lore-wise, because their existence can be explained by them being attached to the fourth wall, which is what the player looks at the Knight through. It's basically a game construct that we are not supposed to think about as a part of the suspension of disbelief.
BUT THOSE THINGS are not attached to any wall! They're just. Floating. There. In the air. Without any support. And THEIR existence can't be explained by the game wanting to provide the player some convenience. The Knight can't interact with them, we never see anyone else use them or even acknowledge them, so they MUST be something that TC put there for lore reasons, as a part of that beautiful thing that we call environmental storytelling... Right?
That or they just put them there without really thinking about the implications that this anomaly creates. But that's a boring and very unlikely explanation, so I'm just going to discuss what that might mean for the game's lore, assuming they're put there intentionally.
So, I have several thoughts on why those platforms might exist as a part of the in-game universe.
First theory. Hallownest is literally frozen in time
Ok, so this is probably the most obvious one. Throughout the game we see some evidence of the Kingdom being literally put on hold with the intention to keep it alive indefinitely.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is pretty much what is implied in the tablet in the Pale King's workshop - that PK was trying to literally pause Time itself, so that the inevitable Dawn would never Break.
Tumblr media
(Quite an interesting theme, actually - the idea of avoiding the inevitable not by trying to actually avoid letting it happen, but by delaying it by an infinite amount of time. It deserves its own post, really)
So, with Time itself being literally frozen, it's pretty safe to assume that this is exactly the reason as to why some parts of the Kingdom are literally stuck in one place, right? I mean, it's pretty much a trope to have floating rocks and buildings in a place that is stuck in some kind of time stasis. I'd say this is a pretty solid assumption, but when we actually look at some of the other parts of Hallownest we see that it's pretty lively for a place that is frozen in time. The rain is pouring, the stalactites are falling, all those machines in the Crystal Peak are still working...
Some of that stuff can actually be explained by either the Radiance's influence or the Knight's movement. The Infection is presented as the inevitable force of change that resurrects everything and moves it towards Light. The air thickens, the bugs arise from the dead, the Infection takes over the Crossroads, the Moss cultists get turned into mush, and so on. Meanwhile, other creatures possessing a Will are also capable of bringing change to this land. The Knight constantly breaks things, forces the ground to crumble beneath its feet, and overall just brings destruction to Hallownest, bringing the world closer to its natural end. It's no wonder that the stalactites start falling conveniently right as the Knight passes underneath them.
BUT there are still many things that can't be explained so easily. Like, if the Kingdom is supposed to be frozen in time, then why is the rain still pouring? Why is the Wyrm's ash still falling at the Kingdom's Edge? Why is the sand still falling from the ceiling? Why do larger things seem to be fixed in place, while smaller things are seemingly unaffected by the Kingdom's stasis?
That and the fact that at no point we see these floating platforms being acknowledged by the game's lore in any way other than those two places makes me think that this theory is probably incorrect, unlike the next one.
Second theory. Those two particular places are just that special.
The only two places where we actually see floating platforms being a part of the background (if I'm not missing any) are located near some of the most mysterious places in the whole game.
First, we have the ones that are located near the Colosseum of Fools. To be honest, even the interactable platforms there just seem useless, as some of them don't even protect us from the Bellflies. They all look like some kind of decoration (alongside with those strange thin pillars with circles on top of each) leading us along the road towards the corpse of a huge beast which the Colosseum is located inside. What even is this creature? Is it a higher being? Is it a Wyrm (don't mossbag me, he's wrong about those things being its claws because we see a third one in the foreground lying aside from the main structure, detached from the body)? Is the Lord Fool its reincarnation? Is it connected to the Ancient Civilization? How are there so many warriors there? Why does it still thrive after everything that happened to Hallownest? There are so many questions about that place left unanswered that I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the magic of the Colosseum actually affects time and/or space around it, making it possible for the floating platforms to exist.
Second (and this is the most important one), we have the platforms that are located inside and outside the Hive. As far as I know, this is the only place in the whole game that has this many floating platforms located in the background.
Tumblr media
This basically confirms that this is absolutely NOT a coincidence and is a part of the intentional in-game lore. The whole place is floating!
The Hive seems to be in its own kind of stasis, probably due to its isolation. Vespa says that going against nature is a folly, so this anomaly is probably something... natural.
And you know where else floating things are a natural occurrence?
Tumblr media
The Dream Realm.
So, the Hive and the Dream Realm are both places that are tied to the Light, which is a kind of force or energy that can alter reality and even create new realities, which are not necessarily bound by the usual laws of space and time. The Hive is not located in the Dream Realm, and it's safe to say that it's not some kind of in-between-the-worlds situation like with the Lifeblood Core, so the stuff that's going on there is less crazy than what we see in the Dream Realm, but it is also the only material place that is connected so heavily to the Light, so it is safe to assume that the anomaly that lets the platforms float is directly connected to that mysterious force.
The only thing that I can't understand is how the Light in those places connects to the Colosseum of Fools. It's not a well-lit area, and even inside the arena the only source of light is just regular fire. Could it be that this mysterious force is not defined by the Light itself, but by something more... incomprehensible?
I wonder what that force even is. The Radiance is definitely not the only source of it, and we know we're gonna see some really shiny stuff in Silksong. I personally hope for more platform lore.

OK, people are still being jerks
It's just a stupid show! Why do you care or give money to this when Bad Thing is happening in the world?? Omg, you are so embarrassing!
I tell you, a Bad Thing has been happening every day of my life on this earth, and I still want some enjoyment out of my squishy mortal existence.
There is an emotional burden to living. We can't live our lives stressed and in anxiety all of our waking moments. We need entertainment, leisure, and play. This helps our brains rest.
But if we're going to Go There because of these "activists", let's talk about fascism a bit, shall we? So many of us read 1984 in school, right? With the Newspeak and novel-writing machines? It's a dystopia that cuts language down and prints out its entertainment without a creative process behind it. Fascism is anti-intellectual and has a disdain for the arts, only wanting to recycle the past. Fascism marginalizes those with less power. Fascism wants to control all of the mass media. Fascism reveres corporations. ... fascism is bad, btw.
Representation in media is important. Stories are a big part of how we pass down history, share culture, and build community in a society. No, the shows that people are upset about losing may not be Shakespeare, but most things aren't. I was going to go on a longer rant here, but you know what? You Get It or you Don't. The arts and telling inclusive stories are Important, even if it's not Life-or-Death. People can care about more than one thing at once.
If we're looking at what's happening with Max right now, they're cutting out queer shows, shows with large BIPOC casts, and shows with female leads. We're watching these streamers and companies dissolve into one another (WBD/Max wants to merge with Paramount, remember). We're watching shows that aren't led by cishet white males disappear and shows that aren't cookie cutter, strictly-by-the-numbers IPs or procedurals or cheap reality shows disappear. Maybe we'd be allowed to get bare minimum tokenism if we're lucky, and if we're extra lucky, get some marketing! There are some exceptions in streamers... now. Two years ago, HBO Max was the place where new stories could be told safely, and nothing is stepping in to take its place now. Sure, some bad shows may have been canceled back in the day, but that isn't what's happening right now, is it?
People creating these stories deserve a living wage, even if they don't pump out Record Profits, and storytellers (and the audience!) should have some safety in being able to finish the story in some manner. Almost all of the financial difficulties facing Max now are due to mismanagement at the executive level, not quality of products. Any show that does something new or tells a different perspective does not last. It's not even about "numbers." Our Flag Means Death outperformed everything, but here we are. OFMD is a rarity now that it has the loud and passionate fanbase to make waves.
So, here are some petitions for three shows canceled this week on Max. (Remember Max is planning to throw over $125M at a season of TERFy wizards) Fandoms should support each other!

I'm sensing such tension in the Fandom, almost Jealousy that SpawnStarion doesn't get to be a bat, or the need to double down on how it's not worth it anyway, or even so far as to be mad at the devs for making Ascension attractive
And then some Ascended Fans getting uppity that people who only like the Spawn ending are trying to enjoy the Bat Scene anyway to the point of telling them they don't deserve to draw and write about it if they condemn the ending, or even to come up with headcanons of how Spawn could be a bat various ways
Here's a brief heads up:
Back tf off each other
It's your desire for one ending to be "right" or "morally correct" that is making this an issue
I, personally, enjoy storytelling. There seems to be some confusion about people like me who simply enjoy the content produced, and enjoy the Fandom interpretations, even ones that DIRECTLY contradict each other. After all, how can you possibly just enjoy things without drawing lines in the sand and making matching t-shirts and shaking your fist at anyone who prefers different things?
Goodness gracious, ya'll.
For me, I hate the idea of Astarion killing himself when Tav dies, right? I've talked about that before. But I'll JUST NOT READ THE FANFICS or reblog the art. It's that easy. I don't go into people's posts and criticize them or yell at them or tear them down. If I talk about it it's in my space on my blog and I strongly emphasize that if I annoy you you're welcome to block me 🚫 if it makes you feel better.
You cannot police Fandom. You will not win, you'll just create division
Make your space, find your people, discuss things and enjoy, it's OK to be critical in your space, it's OKAY TO LET PEOPLE ENJOY THINGS YOU DONT LIKE and it's OKAY for you to NOT understand why they enjoy things.
There is no "WIN FOR THE SPAWN TEAM" OR "WIN FOR ASCENDED FANS" because it's not supposed to be a tally-able thing, it's supposed to show the outcome of different choices and its this desire to black-and-white morality the whole thing that is getting people up in arms and even going after Larian for not making Ascended more of a punishment or Spawn more of a blatantly "good ending"
I love that the storytelling is so complex people can't clearly settle as a group. It's great. It means there's enough content to make people THINK and investigate and study and enjoy different angles and interpretations.
What I don't like is seeing people online going after each others throats because they need to be right so badly that they get personally offended to the point of lashing out at other human beings over it.
It's silly. Y'all're silly.

Tech and Phee
So, I just read a bunch of arguments against this ship. And I don't really want to try to persuade anyone to feel either way. I just have some thoughts.
First off, I don't think Wanda Sykes works in this part. Personally I like to picture Sharon Duncan-Brewster. Also, I don't disagree that she comes off as a bit abrasive when we first meet her. But so did the Bad Batch, like waaaaay worse. It would be weird if she was some demure uwu girl.
There's actually a lot of parallels between them. They both make I'm seldom wrong, I'm always right comments. They have similar disregard for danger. They both have an intense (to the point of endangering themselves) love of knowledge and investigation.
They have both made communication blunders. I'm referring to the dreaded "it's called a conversation" incident. It's not fair to always expect women characters to be perfect so that the male character can work through their shit. This was still less hurtful than Tech's blunder with Omega. It's okay to make blunders. It happens to both men and women, and NT and ND people. We autistics can't expect NTs to immediately understand how to perfectly interact with us anymore that they can expect the same from us. It's not going to be perfect from the start. But they both have the patience and focus to get through that.
The build up. Ok, before the Pabu, I didn't see it. I don't think he did either. He clearly blue screened during the "head to these coordinates" shoulder touch. I think this is the "holy shit she is flirting" blue screen realization. I think after that it clicked for him, like ooooooh that's why she acts like that, okay. Suddenly, we see him smiling at her and interacting in a different way. Especially the "hold on scene". We've seen Tech carry Echo by him holding around his neck. We see Wrecker in this episode carry the old man the same way. It would have been very appropriate to carry her that way too. But no. He grabbed that lady around the waist without hesitation.
The goodbye. Again, this is just my read on the scene, but why was he hanging outside the ship? I think he wanted to say goodbye but didn't know how. Phee comes over (as he probably expected which is why he was out) and he just shutdown. This isn't a situation he's been in, it's not easy, he doesn't know how to function here. I don't think he was staring at his screen because he wanted to ignore her, it's because he fucking shutdown. I've addressed the "it's called a conversation" above, but I'll add that she didn't get pissed or shitty. She finally sees that he's not willing or able to have this conversation and she ends it with a goodbye and a kind smile. As she leaves, his look isn't a "thank God that shit's over" look. It's a longing look. Maybe he still has to work out his feelings. But there is something there.
This is as much build up as a show this short can fit in. There is literally not enough time for more. Considering the amount of storytelling they have to get to, it's actually quite a lot (IMO).
Again, these are just my thoughts. I'm not trying to invalidate if other people read it differently and don't ship it.

why is chuuya's jacket red in s5 (+ unhinged and yet somehow still professional rant)
no seriously, why. like ok bones, i get it, the red is for blood. woohoo you know your colors. but this isn't the first time you've fucked up a character's outfit because just look at what you've done to the hunting dogs. bones. bones, look at me. i have you by the shoulders now. look. at. me. do you understand foreshadowing. or parallels. or callbacks to an earlier time. do you understand ANYTHING about narrative storytelling. chuuya's jacket was supposed to be green because then it would obviously have a bigger effect on the audience as well as dazai himself due to his past and his memories of when they first met, aka the ENTIRE FUCKING 15 ARC. the outfit similarities would be a nice callback to simpler times, to times when they had only just met and he was already practically smitten with him, and then seeing it in the prison with him as a vampire should've been soul crushing to him. it should've rightfully obliterated dazai after seeing how drastically chuuya had changed by having his humanity, the thing he was so uncertain about in his teenage years, forcibly stripped away. it should've ruined him knowing that he still viewed chuuya as human and even made it quite clear that he did back then but now he's something that isn't human. dazai should've also been pissed by this, seeing the partner he'd work with for years being reduced to a mere chess piece on the board he and fyodor are fighting for control over. and to have him show up in a similar outfit to his outfit when he was 15 should've been the damn tipping point. but no, you just had to go and make it red because "oh haha red is a prominent color this season because of vampires and blood!!" BONES. who the FUCK cares about the color. it would be so much more impactful to everyone inside AND outside the storyline if you had just altered that one, tiny detail. but you didn't. this is your downfall. the entire s5 budget went DOWN THE DRAIN because you wanted to add the sigzai dancing scene but remove dazai's capability to express human emotions which in the end makes him seem shallow and for fanservice only because he's 'visually appealing." if you fuck up the drowning speech i am going to RIOT. do NOT make him smirk, do NOT make him seem amused, and do NOT make him assume that his plan will work. no matter how he views himself, he. is. human. during that scene, he must have been willing to sacrifice even chuuya for the greater good because he's always been an 'ends justify the means' kind of guy, but that doesn't mean that he enjoys what he tried to do. sure, make him mask his concern later though. if i know one thing about this man, it's that's showing genuine emotions and baring his heart is an uncomfortable experience for him. if you can't accurate capture that within animation, then let some other studio pick up the bones of your mistakes and actually make something worthwhile.

Radio Omens time!! Strap in for my subjective personal opinions made by one person about the full-cast radio adaptation of Good Omens.
We're gonna begin with: I am blowing kisses to the scripting/editing/production team. This thing is an impeccable adaptation. Im-pecc-a-ble. The voice talent is fantastic, the energy is stellar, the pacing is excellent, and the sheer amount of atmospheric info they managed to translate into radio-friendly format? Mwah mwah mwah. I think it's the kind of listening format that's not for everyone, but it is SO for me.
Time for some specific highlights! It was a long day so we're a little extra silly this time. It's also long and not in a reasonable order.
(Ok good my page cut is working this time.)
- Good GOD I forgot the primary voices were Like That. I shrieked (happily) as soon as Aziraphale's mouth opened. This is why I travel alone /hj
-- (Incidentally, I said "oh fuck holy shit I can't do this" when Crowley started talking, but I did it anyway *sighs in bisexual*)
- Hheeeennghsh the opening scene in Eden is. The way it's written successfully sets up who Aziraphale and Crowley are, who they're supposed to be to each other, and a hint at who they're going to be to each other later because they are SO delightfully snippy at one another in this scene. Aziraphale's "oh, it's you" and Crowley's "mmhm, yeah, well done on keeping demons away. Bravo" (heavily paraphrased) will be living rent-free in my head until I have time to write a fic about it.
- So, having Aziraphale do the early narration is an excellent way of setting the tone. What I need you to do, if you've only done tv omens (which is so so valid and I think really is another excellent adaptation), is remember Aziraphale's magician persona. And then imagine him being that for the entire story. The pitch, the rate of speech, the slightly frantic energy, the drama: it's all just part of his overarching character in radio omens, and it's SO good for storytelling.
- Radio Crowley knows what's in all of Aziraphale's infamous Bibles so well that he can quote them. I love this detail, I love it as a means of establishing their relationship during their "let's be godfathers" scene, and I love how hard he's ribbing poor Aziraphale about the extra verses in Genesis.
- Radio Crowley is SO like... tender? I mean, all Crowleys are to some extent Soft but something about this one has just a little extra something. I love the way he talks about his temptations and shenanigans. He's so proud. It eases what could feel like needless exposition because he really seems to like explaining his process.
- That's a bit of the same of what I mean about Aziraphale's personality. Since he's very obviously inclined to dramatize a story, exposition just fades neatly into his character rather than grating on the nerves.
- They reference The Arrangement a lot and usually with a great deal of affection. There's one particular time when they even acknowledge something about wanting to protect each other.
- I adore the way Anathema and her ties to Agnes are introduced. It's so concise but meaningful, and it's just the right amount of setup for her character appearing later.
- The baby swap scene in other iterations relies so much on descriptive narrative or visual language, but you know what? The heavily trimmed down version also works surprisingly well.
- Crowley knows about the hellhound way beforehand (and, of course, he tells Aziraphale. They plan their roles for the party years in advance, which is an extremely efficient way of communicating about that scene to the listener).
- At Warlock's party in the book, Crowley gets all suspicious about a gerbil being gifted to him. In the radio drama, Aziraphale wonders aloud if the gerbil might be suspicious and Crowley tells him not to be stupid. Just struck me as a funny thing to shuffle around.
- Adult radio Anathema is everything to me actually.
- Poor Newt's childhood gets skipped over (unless I missed it, which is possible), but I liked his adult introduction as well; it brings in the whole Witchfinder-adjacent cast at once and makes it super clear how they all know each other without lingering.
- Shadwell. Just. The actor's voicework is so evocative of someone who is very gesturally expressive. There's no way he wasn't swinging his hands around in the recording space.
- The Them are all 100% perfect. Shout-out to Adam for that mind-rending scream that I was not expecting to go on for so long. Interestingly, in chapter credits, the Them are not grouped with the humans! This makes sense, but it also made my brain go !!!
- The horsepeople (both original and extra) were also so good, and that chunk of the cast gave the impression of good chemistry, so the scenes were really fun.
- Crowley says Aziraphale's name a lot. A lot a lot. Actually, most people do; probably for simplicity's sake, there's no "Mr. Fell," or "Nanny Ashtoreth," just "Mr. Aziraphale" and "Mr. Crowley."
- Well, Shadwell does say "Mr. A," and there is a Brother Francis.
- One of Nanny's rules for Warlock is "don't talk to the creepy gardener" rkahjdjs Crowley what is wrong with you
- I did in fact let out another sound when the Nanny voice happened. We're not talking about it.
- When applying for the jobs, Aziraphale just straight up calls dibs on gardener and Crowley complains and says something like "can you see me in a skirt?" and Aziraphale just pulls a date at random on which he'd seen Crowley in a skirt. This was probably also in the book, but I noticed it here and didn't there.
- Crowley's idea of something calming to listen to was a radio gardening talk show ;~; and he likes listening to televangelists for the lulz (I have never used that phrase before in my life but I'm keeping it)
- Having him hear Aziraphale possessing the televangelist was absolute genius for keeping the plot cohesive.
- Seance scene continues to be painful ahahaha...
- Hell's emissaries know that Aziraphale was discorporated and they're mean to Crowley about it in a way that implies Hell has long been aware that they're working together. Intriguing...
- There's mention at some point about how no homes in Tadfield have PlayStations or Xboxes, and I think that's a cool bit of writing to establish the time period (along with Newt bricking smartphones, which I think was said at least in breadcrumbs).
- Almost forgot, but Mr. Gaiman and Sir Terry Pratchett being the policemen trying to book Crowley for speeding in the beginning is so cute.
- When Satan is about to show up, Aziraphale worrying about everyone else and Crowley going "and me!" like hello, I am also in danger, that's my boss?? if u even care?? was SO funny in this version to me.
- Look, there were a lot more things, but it's already been several hours since it ended, so I'm sure I'm forgetting many.
- Oh! Pepper's backstory being transformed into her speech to Adam was SO good on so many levels. It really drove home that Adam does love his friends, it deepened their lore gradually, it made Adam's role and decisions very clear, and it also struck me as "Pepper says trans rights" even if that wasn't the intention, so hell yeah.
- The gag reel leads me to believe that Peter Serafinowicz is A) probably the funniest person alive to work with and B) extremely relatable due to the amount of time spent on the struggle bus. Also whoever put the breaking glass sound over all the accidental swears, I love you forever.

My Journey to You Ep. 1-2, 24 visuals: Portraits of power and masculinity
I'm doing a rewatch of My Journey to You and I just can't get over how well the show introduces its two male leads, Gong Ziyu and Gong Shangjue. In under two minutes, these two scenes brilliantly establish one of the show's core themes around masculinity and power without a word of dialogue.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ok, so I gasped when the first glimpse we get of Ziyu's character, the protagonist of a wuxia drama, is a delicate shot of his bare feet. He's a nobleman's son in a sect that is revered by the rest of the martial arts world and yet look at what he's (not) wearing: no military regalia, weapons--just a thin robe and his bare feet.
He's also shown napping, sprawled across his seat like a Victorian woman on a fainting couch. And then when he wakes up, we see him staring longingly out of the brothel's window, his face gently cast in the morning light, like a fairy tale princess locked away in a tower.
Visually, the show immediately communicates to us that Ziyu represents a softer, more romantic image of masculinity, which is reinforced over and over again throughout the show with other feminine-coded symbols (e.g., Ziyu playing music, wearing a red couple bracelet, carrying a bunny lantern). He’s not meant to be seen as a strong son ready to lead his sect but as an overly sensitive playboy wasting his time away.
And then we're introduced to Shangjue.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The music thrums menacingly as Shangjue rides into the Gong residence, his uniformed men carrying spoils of war behind him. As he passes through the main gates, we see each guard bowing in respect. All of this fanfare and the solemn blackness of his riding gear signal the important political role he occupies within the Gong family.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Side Note: Ryan Cheng's side-eye is magnificent and one of the sexiest things to hit Cdramaland in 2023.)
But what I love most about this scene is the use of high and low-angle shots and central framing. At 6'2’’, Zhang Linghe (the actor playing Ziyu) is a giant, and yet the high angle and surplus negative space around him makes his character look small, almost pitiful in comparison to Shangjue.
In contrast, the zoomed-in, low-angle shot for Shangjue communicates his intimidating persona. There’s something ruthless (even kind of malevolent) about his character, and the show tries to convince us of this first impression with repeated use of shadow and animalistic imagery in its early episodes. He embodies the type of masculinity a powerful sect like the Gongs would want representing them in campaigns with the outside world.
From the jump, Ziyu and Shangjue are set up as antagonists, both by how the characters dismiss one another in the script and also by the show's visual storytelling.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course, as the show goes on, both characters gradually change their opinion of one another, and this change is mirrored once again in the visual storytelling. Their final scene in Episode 24 is a near reversal of what we saw in their intro scenes (many thanks to @kingsandbastardz for pointing out the costumes!):
Shangjue's hair is up in a ponytail, neck bare, his rich blue robes nipped in at the waist. He's no longer dressed in his villainous black robes and he doesn't look as physically imposing without his signature cloak. He is finally Ziyu's ally. And check out how the camera angle is also reversed, with Shangjue being shot from a high angle so he looks less dangerous--even fragile--while Ziyu is shot from a low angle to look more powerful.
Despite audience expectations about what type of man would make a strong leader, he has officially grown into the role of Sword Wielder.

Hi 👋
Since you said it's ok to reach out, please don't mind me dumping my thoughts on the cancellation news :
OFMD and it's fandom, even though I'm very much a lurker, is so important to me. The last few years have been really chaotic and not in a good way. My life has turned out very different from what I've imagined and I've had to give up many of the things that brought me joy.
The doses of serotonin I got from OFMD and its fandom, even by just scrolling tumblr a few mins, made all the difference to keep me going. Now I'm sad and a bit fearful that life is going to be that little bit harder, and that I've lost something to look forwards to.
I'm sad for the cast and crew and the fandom too. And depressed thinking about the future of art. I have a hard time imagining a positive future, both on a global and personal level, and I fear corporate bullshit is ruining human creativity and storytelling.
I am grateful though to cast, crew and fandom. We really got something so special with OFMD. I feel a bit guilty for not having the time and energy to contribute much, and I was hoping that if season 3 had happened, I would by then have had more to give.
Thanks for everything you do for the fandom 💕
Hi friend! Ooo I love your icon btw. Yes please! My dms and asks are always open (sometimes I'm a bit late getting back to them because of time differences and crazy work situations but I do try to get back to you within 24 hrs, especially now!)
Can I just say, I really appreciate you sharing this with me and the crew? I know it's really hard to talk about these kinds of things, especially when you're already feeling upset, and I am so honored you felt safe enough to share it.
First, and foremost, I totally get that guilty feeling, like you didn't have time to do enough. But you know what? You did plenty. You were here lurking, and participating in the background. Not all of us have enough spoons to do crazy things every day to support our show, and that is 100% okay. The fact that you kept yourself going is exactly what needed to happen, and I'm so glad you found some solace in the OFMD fandom. The most important thing is you are here with us, and you're getting something good out of this wonderful community.
The situation seems dire right now, I know. It's so hard because it feels like "Well maybe if we just did x more" it would be enough, but the hard truth of it is, it wouldn't. You are right, the corporate greed out there is ruining human creativity and storytelling. However-- I think this is a wonderful opportunity for us to keep fighting the good fight for exactly those things.
Every piece of art... or fic... or cosplay, or drink or any creation really, inspired by the show has the power to fuel creativity in others. We are creative creatures, and I know I, like you, had given up for a long time many of the things that brought me joy. This community, this fandom, this show, is fueled by creativity, and love and joy and inclusivity, and that is a beautiful thing, and that is certainly not gone. Even if we don't get an s3 now or ever-- that spark, that inspiration is still there in all of us. They can't take away the way that show made us feel.
You feelings on worrying life is going to be a bit worse are absolutely valid hon. I spent all yesterday afternoon crying my damn eyes out because I felt like I finally had something I could continue to support and fight for, and that I may have had some semblance of control over and it was taken away. Your grief and fear are so damn valid. I'm also feeling very strongly about "I have a hard time imagining a positive future, both on a global and personal level". I'm lucky to be a part of a community where when I expressed those same concerns people gave me some great ways to help cope and put my energy into. @celluloidbroomcloset passed on this nugget: "So I've got friends who are, like, Activists with a capital A, and from what they've said a good place to direct efforts when you feel helpless is at local levels. Can be politics, homeless advocacy, queer orgs, environmental, etc. or other orgs within your area, etc. Because a lot of change can happen more easily at the local level and you can engage with people more readily in those spaces and make a difference. It breaks down the bigger issues into something more manageable with real, visible outcomes." Please know friend, you're not alone in these fears, we're all feeling them right now, and I'm really happy you felt like you could reach out and talk about them. If you wanna talk more please feel free to DM me. Thank you for all your kind words to the community and the cast & crew too, I know they need it just as much as we do at the moment. You are a super human <3 Take care and get some rest, and when you feel up for it, please come back to us and keep loving the things in this fandom :) We're all still here.

On "Daddy Issues"
Ok, I know I'm a bit late to the game here, but I was gathering my thoughts after experiencing episode 5 and 6
Let me preface this with the fact that I am a Hazbin Hotel fan; it's cringe and it's not the best writing in the world, but I love the characters and the concept and the art. I know a lot of people disagree and completely despise it and hey, you do you, but this is a silly little thing I enjoy and think is fun
but oof. episode 5 and 6 were rough, execution-wise. Also worth mentioning that episode 5 followed on the heels of episode 4, which was dealing with a lot of heavy topics and gave Angel a lot of character development very quickly and had a wonderful song and a budding relationship between Husk and Angel that was fantastic, so to get a confusing and overwhelming yet completely inefficient episode (ep 5) and then an episode with SO MUCH HAPPENING that it absolutely bowled you over with plot points and world building that weren't given a single second to breathe was really disappointing. I'll put the meat under a read more, but that's the thesis
this post is just gonna be on episode 5, and I'll make another one on episode 6 bc christ almighty both of them are gonna be long
Episode 5 was something I was really looking forward to-- Of the main cast, Charlie and Vaggie seemed the least intriguing to me (oh, did I say "seemed" past tense? haha! they still most definitely are the least interesting!), and I wanted to see how they would introduce something they've been building up to for a while: Charlie's famed "Daddy issues"!
Turns out, instead of actually keeping it as a point of intrigue for Charlie's character and using it as a point of tension to show that hey, Charlie isn't actually a perfect person, and she's also in pain with the rest of the sinners because her own family relationships are falling apart, they solve it in a single episode. That's right! The long-awaited, complicated, divorced parent and child relationship that twisted Charlie into a validation seeking, people pleasing princess that "wants to fix other people so she doesn't have to deal with her own daddy issues" (quote by Husk) is solved with a charming performance by Jeremy Jordan and a song!
Look, it's no secret I'm a huge fan of Loser, Baby-- I clearly have no qualms with storytelling through song. But you cannot song-plain this one away. We've established over 4 episodes that Charlie and her father have kept in minimal contact for seven years. That's a Long time (don't go trying to be like, oh time to charlie works differently, bc that shit's not established, and everyone in the show still treats seven years like a long time). We know that the last time they called each other was 5 months ago.
"More than Anything," solves basically everything by making the following points
Charlie was inspired by her Dad's dreaming
Lucifer was ashamed of his failures and hid away from her
Lucifer does, however, want so so deeply to know Charlie
Charlie wants to know Lucifer
They love each other <3
these are fine endgame points. Dare I say... good endgame points to arrive at?? But you can't stuff ALL these revelations into a single song and call it a finished relationship arc when they haven't spoken for real in 7 YEARS. Also, making Lucifer so goofy and silly and fun and charming is Not helping the establishment of his character as a self-hating former dreamer who doesn't want his daughter to make the same mistakes he did. It just turns him to tumblr sexyman cute quirky sympathetic never did anything wrong and loves his daughter, completely downplaying his absentee parenting.
You can't have him turn from "I do not care about your life. I do not care about your project. I will not ask about your passions and your dreams. I am already ashamed of my own." to "ur so right bestie!!! dreaming is so slay mama!!! I love you so much you're my little baby girl I love you so much, you're right and I will support you!!!" in the course of a single episode without like.... at least 3 real, in depth conversations happening. The song is beautiful, but you can't poetry your way out of an actual relationship arc.
BUT! But, but but! The fault does not lie completely with Lucifer, but also with Charlie. girl just forgave him??? For everything????? Despite having been so scared to call him at the beginning of the episode? It's very unrealistic for a kid to just accept that a parent loves them apparently so so deeply when they've never seen proof of it in the last idk just spitballing a number here SEVEN YEARS. If you want to make the crux of a failed parent-child relationship miscommunication, you're gonna have to get into the ugly--- the grieving of what you could've had earlier, the wondering why you didn't reach out earlier, the anger at why they've suddenly changed now--- and you're gonna have to explain why the miscommunication went on so long.
sometimes, if you have a pair of completely uncommunicative people, seven years may be reasonable. But Charlie is open about her passions! She's public! She constantly reads about "The Story of Hell" and paints Lucifer in a positive light! And Lucifer is quick to reciprocate any interest Charlie shows in him! He's quick to offer help, to spoil Charlie and show love! (Lucifer's points are two points that make SEVEN YEARS of MINIMAL CONTACT and MISCOMMUNICATION make ZERO SENSE).
Tumblr media
additionally, Charlie's lowkey only point of intrigue that was set up (her relationship to Lucifer, the King of Hell) is now just... kapoot. solved. pish posh. now she's a done character.
THEN EXPLAIN WHY I STILL DON'T GIVE A FUCK ABOUT HER???? I haven't seen her actually struggle in a way that's not played off as a bit, we don't get a real charlie breakdown monologue, there are no stakes for me as a hazbin hotel viewer to want everything to go well for charlie besides my acab rad leftist ass being like redemption and forgiveness is good and ultimately benefits society
she's fun, she's bubbly, she's kind! but those are all basic things we knew from minute 1 she was on screen. I need to see her struggle. For a main character, she sure as hell doesn't feel main. And I expected better female characters from female writers (feat. in my next post, Vaggie????? What the hell?).
goodnight new york city, you've been great!

Ok so how do you rank the Oscar BP nominees you’ve seen and also any notable snubs you feel like including (like our mutual beloved May December)
Okay, so I waited to answer this until I saw Oppenheimer because it seemed unfair to give a list without having an Oppenheimer opinion.
So, I loved Oppenheimer. It's a masterpiece. Cillian Murphy and RDJ should both win....but I think Killers of the Flower Moon was better and I think Killers of the Flower Moon is the actual Best Picture. I don't know if this is an "age before beauty" situation or some kind of patriotic thing, but I just think Killers of the Flower Moon is doing many of the things that Oppenheimer is doing about America and sin and storytelling, but better.
I still can't believe the cast of May December didn't get nominated though! I honestly think both Julianne Moore and Charles Melton gave the best supporting performances and it's just dumb they weren't even nominated.
I think Past Lives was fine, but the stench of Iowa Writer's Workshop all over it makes me kind of mad that that behavior is rewarded with Oscar nominations. Nyad is actively a bad movie, even though Jodie Foster is really good in it and even though I personally am the ideal audience for it. It's offensive that Nyad looks so bad! Nothing in that movie make sense unless the vast, vast sea looks capitivatingly beautiful and it looks like cheap crap!
Finally, I know they objectively won't win but the Oscar winners of my heart are American Fiction and Jeffrey Wright and Sterling K Brown in it. That movie is just effortlessly good.

can you write something about being at the conjuring house and something happens to the reader and colby and reader are dating so he comforts her please!!
Evil Lurks Here
Tumblr media
It felt so bad cropping Sam out :( I'm never doing that again
We step inside the house, taking in the smell of wood and old house, everything creaking as we take more steps inside. I look over at Kat who is already looking at me, both thinking about the same thing: how creepy and dangerous it feels. I tug on Colby's longsleeve and he turns his attention towards me immediately.
"Are you ok?", he asks concerned
"Yeah, I'm fine. I just feel the need to ask you to protect me", i hug him from the side and Bury my face in his chest. His cheeks turn pink and kisses the top of my head, his arms squeezing me tight. "Thank you, babe", i get up to kiss his cheek before Sam turns on the camera to film the interview and the whole story of the house. Fans know about my relationship with Colby, but we just choose not to be too clingy with each other on camera.
I follow them close behind and keep checking behind me, feeling like we're being followed. I choose not to interrupt the storytelling, everyone being very invested in all the details, but i just can't focus on that. I check out every corner of every room and watch closely every dark spot that might hold shadows inside of them. This place makes me more paranoid than any other place and it's annoying how i can't keep up with the rest.
"Y/n, are you alright?", Sam snaps me out of my thoughts, not realising i was zoning out on a dark spot on the hallway. Because of that, everyone looked terrified until i answered
"I'm fine, yeah, sorry. I just can't keep focusing on anything. I'm keeping ny guard up cause this place is freaking me out", i exhale loudly and right after that, a loud squeak is heard right next to me. I jump and bump into Colby, who is filming. "Sorry, jesus christ, that was loud"
"If you're not ok, we can go outside and take a break", Colby offers but i shake my head and retake my initial position, next to the squeak.
"I think it might like you", Corey says and i feel like I'm losing my shit. My jaw drops.
"That's what i wanted to hear actually", i fake a laugh and everyone laughs at me.
"Yeah, for real. I've heard footsteps behind us. I think it is following you", he says with a straight face and the boys let out a loud wow, but Kat grabs my hand, terrified as i am
"Oh my god i heard those too", my hand goes to my mouth in disbelief, my eyes watering. He nods and i shake my head. "It's gonna be a long night", i say to the camera and Colby chuckles.
We stop in the bedroom to actually start our investigation. We put on the bed some devices we want to use and each of us finds a spot to sit. I sit in the door frame with the emf reader in my hand, my back facing the hallway, which is the worst placement ever, but i lost at the nose touching game. Who even invented that?
Colby sits on the bed, having the night vision camera (i wanted to say about that thing that u actually tale pictures with but i forgot how it's called) , Sam on a side of the room with the spirit box and Kat, closer to me, with the ovilus.
"If there's anyone here with us, please make yourself known by touching or talking into one of our devices. That's y/n in the door frame, if you're coming next to her, she has in her hand a device that lights up when you walk in front of it. Can you light it up yellow for us? ", Colby says and i see him turning the camera towards me and i shake my head in disbelief of what I'm doing.
Door, the ovilus says and we jump
"Yes, I'm right here. Can you come closer to the device in my hand?", i ask and my voice cracks because of all the emotions I'm feeling at once. A cold sweat drop falls down my spine and i get goosebumps all over my body. My body shakes.
"You ok?", Colby asks and i nod my head.
"Just a shiver"
Cold
"Oh my God", Sam shouts
"A little bit, yeah. It's very cold in this room. Are you here?", i try getting in contact with the spirit
Outside
"Oh great, you're behind me", i laugh sarcastically and i feel a few strands of my hair rising, feeling like a balloon was just scrubbed on my head. I jump from my place and look on the hallway with my phone flashlight. It's nothing there.
Scared
Call
Scream
"What happened?", Colby asks, coming next to me and putting a hand on my waist
"Something grabbed my hair."
Colby
"No it wasn't Colby", Kat says to the ovilus. "Why would it say Colby? That makes no sense"
Cold
"Yeah, it's still very cold in the room. Are you here?", Sam asks and the emf starts lightning up after the question. It spikes to red, then to yellow and then red again. He stops the spirit box, not getting as much from it as we get from the ovilus and i retake my spot in the doorframe to continue the investigation.
We ask a few more questions, some of them being answered by flashlights, that were later brought out. As we want to leave for the living room area, a few footsteps are heard right outside the bedroom. Colby goes out to see of there's anything, but nothing. As i pass the place i previously sat in to grab my phone from the bed, i see in the corner of my eye a small shadow peeking inside the room.
"Oh My God!", i jump on the bed and cross to the other side it to be as far as i can from the entrance. I point my shaky finger to the door, trying to find my words to explain to them what happened. Colby grabs my wrists and sits me down on the bed, his hands then cupping my cheeks to calm me down.
"Breathe, baby, calm down. What happened? I've never seen you so scared", he hugs me tight and i inhale and exhale, trying to regain my breath and steady my heart rate. I realise it's bad when i see that Sam's still filming and Colby didn't use my name and came to confort me no matter what.
"Something peeked inside the room", i manage to say and i feel pressure on my forehead and on my chest. I push Colby a little bit and he understands that i need some space. I take in two long breaths and Sam cuts the recording to make sure I'm fine. "It was small, i don't know, it looked like a kid. Maybe he thought we were playing", i get up from the bed and involuntary look outside the room, but Sam turned on the light on the hallway. I sigh relieved.
"What's that on your chest?", Kat points to my exposed chest and walks over to me, loosening my V-neck just so she can see better. "You're scratched", she says and moves away so Colby and Sam can see. Sam starts recording again and gives Colby the camera to film the part of my chest that's marked.
"It felt weird filming that", Sam laughs and Colby chuckles
"Are you ok? Does it hurt or anything?", Colby's concern makes my cheeks get reddish. This and all the sudden attention makes me a little uncomfortable.
"I'm fine, Colbs. I really am. Let's just go downstairs.", i say and grab him by the empty arm, his hand busy holding the spirit box. As we were entering the living room, i feel a sharp pain in my back, which makes me wince and stop in my tracks, not being able to move anymore." Oh fuck that hurts ", my hand is on the spot that hurts and Colby is quick to put an arm around me and help me walk outside.
"We're done here for now", he demands and everyone agrees, too many things happening at once. We all leave the equipment inside and get to the car. "Does it hurt anymore?", he asks and i nod.
"Not too much, but i can still feel it. Wanna take a look? I don't think it's the age that's causing this", i try to crack a joke, but they're all too concerned about what's going on.
Colby lifts my t-shirt up and i feel his fists holding it. I can tell he's angry and i feel bad for putting him in such a position.
"You have a bruise", his voice cracks and i try not to freak out. "A full on purple spot on your back", he let's go of my shirt and walks away, his face covered in his hands. "It's all my fault"
"What? Why?", i ask, walking towards him. I hear Sam and Kat moving away to give us some privacy. "Babe, there's no way", i hug him and he hugs me tight.
"I'm sorry for taking you here. And i know you're freaking out inside. I know you too well not to know that. Just know that i won't let anything happen to you. Ok?", he glues his forehead to mine.
"I know that, babe. I'm just really scared now, to be really honest with you. I lie most of the times that I'm ok, but I'm really not this time.", i barely talk out loud, feeling ashamed that I'm scared and ruining their investigation
"It's ok to be scared, baby. Trust me, we've been through this too, we'll call it a night and come back another time.", Colby says and i shot my eyes up at him
"We're not going anywhere. I'm not ruining the night even more. Let's just stay here for 5 more minutes and we'll go back inside.", i say and watch him look at me really deep in the eyes.
"You know, when we started dating i didn't think you'd be braver than me.", Colby laughs and kisses me on the lips, holding me by the small of my back. He deepens the kiss and i allow him every movement. Taken away by the feeling, his grab on my back gets tighter and i let out a moan of pain when he touches the bruise.
"That was so unnecessary", i grab my back like an old person
"I'm so sorry.", he laughs and hugs me more carefully this time, kissing ny forehead.
"Ok, I'm fine now. Let's go back inside.", i say loud so Kat and Sam could hear me and head to the house. "I'm so lucky to have you next to me, Colbs. Please, never let go of me", i say and intertwine our fingers
"I'll never let you go, baby"

Almost 50 years old with a job, spouse, and kid and sending each other asks like this to feel superior over an online space of mainly 20 somethings lol. Everyone in "that (black) subset" already knows who these characters are and can confront the topics v easily. All this Nalyra group can do is post things like OHH NOBODY IS READY FOR THIS OHH WE'RE SO MUCH BETTER AND SMARTER THAN THESE (BLACK) PEOPLE. It also may surprise u to learn that slavery existed in America and this fantasy Daddy Marius thing u think ppl can't tolerate is nothing compared to real history. You'll never understand that though because you'd have to acknowledge race and real life outside of Anne Rice books to do that. You'd feel so embarrassed by how u sound if u did tho. like this is rly braindead shit lol. I bet you get off to this though, sounding like a ten year old edgelord to own the woke mob. But you're just v typical racists, lol, while layering on some bs "did u know there's a worse white man than Lestat, did u ever use ur brains." Ok lol. Groundbreaking, more than one white man is shitty. How could we ever imagine such a world?! Marius existing won't make Lestat suddenly be less. Aren't you the ones always crowing that he's the main character? Oh but I forgot, you think it'll all be retconned once "the truth (Lestat's story)" comes out, because you have Anne Rice brain rot and think that's quality storytelling instead of embarrassing and insulting to the audience. You also talk like this as if you won't be screaming and throwing up about it when the show doesn't coddle Marius either and make this all sexy roleplaying. Armand was just referred to as Marius' "sub" in another recent post by crazy white fandom book people. You're the ones who won't be able to handle what's coming. Then you'll just keep moving the goal post, saying shit like this forever so you can keep yourself feeling superior. It's sad u don't go to therapy and talk about why this is the thing that makes you feel in control of your life.

Virginia is a whole psych study 2 lol. Honey u have to separate urself from the fictional man and get real help. Having racist tantrums because black people can understand your man better than u is not it. He's not real, he's not you. It's funny how book ppl are always saying the books teach empathy when you're intolerant of anyone who disagrees with you (or is just black). tbf, that is one way u actually understand Lestat tho lol. These people have all the time in the world to excuse shitty behavior from white men due to trauma, mental illness, "their time period," but Louis, Claudia, and Armand are also victims and yet just victimized more in the fandom. We can't even discuss fr "memory is a monster" without you dipshits being racist about it. How many posts about Episode 5 have we gd had since the last trailer dropped, when that's something you had to go frame by frame to even catch, and also make a lot of assumptions some things are even from that scene. You can't appreciate any of the rest of the story, you're obsessively zeroed in on Lestat being freed from all guilt of DV. You're sick in the head with your love of whiteness.

Ok there's something I just have to respond to you about, that being the BOD saying that Griffith is the true light that burns them. I don't think it's saying that Guts's love for him is more important than his relationship with his companions, it's saying that Guts's hatred and desire for vengeance is more important. Because that's what the beast wants. Also how do we know what it says is even true? It's an entity of evil that's trying to manipulate him so it can take control of him.
It's not an entity of evil manipulating him, it's his own subconsicous. This is made very clear through the themes of the story revolving around humanity's dark side, through the Beast of Darkness "manifesting" in Godo's cave where evil spirits can't enter, through Guts giving into his dark side to assault Casca in broad daylight when he can't be possessed, through Grunbeld calling Guts' armour shape (the beast of darkness) his true power, and through the blatant parallels to apostles and Femto, which are explicitly people's inner darknesses.
Here's a post that goes into that at length.
Every scene with the Beast of Darkness is Guts wrestling with his own worst impulses. I really don't think this is even debatable, it's part of the thematic bedrock of the story, and it's the reason the Beast of Darkness exists as a speaking role.
We know that what it says is true, or at least, something Guts believes, because of that. And also because that's the role of both Guts' inner darkness and most evil spirits in Berserk anyway lol, they're like a greek chorus. They speak uncomfortable truths that highlight people's inner darkness to get into people's heads. And we know they're speaking truth because we see it plenty of other times - when Farnese is possessed the spirit gets to her by pointing out she's turned on by suffering, not by making things up. In chapter 118 the ghosts voice Guts' guilt over killing children and his temptation to become a monster. In other moments in chapter 290 the beast voices Guts' deep fear that he's a danger to his companions. etc. It's also a very typical storytelling convention.
And Guts is able to be possessed when his desires align with the ghosts desires, at the end of chapter 4 when they all want revenge, and after the Hill of Swords scene, when Guts strangles Casca and thinks to himself that he wanted to after Puck tries to reassure him. This is pointed foreshadowing for Guts sexually assaulting Casca a montage later, without being possessed. This is part of a strong motif of Guts wanting to do bad things, which ghosts and the beast of darkness tend to put into words while Guts usually tries to maintain more denial about how far into darkness he could slip.
And we know the beast is calling Guts' love for Griffith his true light because a) light is a consistently recurring symbol of emotional connection and love in Berserk as a whole, b) his companions are "warm lights" in that same monologue, and c) he wants to crush Griffith because that true light burns him. It's not the desire to crush him that's burning him, the desire to crush him is a result of that burn.
It's also a parallel to Ganishka and Griffith's confrontation, in which Ganishka shifts from wanting revenge to simply desiring another connection in the darkness when he ascends and finds himself consumed by isolation and loneliness.
I'll grant that you can argue it's just a "hawk of light" reference, but I think that's a weak reading comparatively that requires ignoring the beast describing his companions as lights as well (and I'd argue he's called the Hawk of Light because of this symbolic imagery anyway lol, but I digress).
Finally, here are a few examples of light as an illustration of emotional connection, which you can contrast to Miura's consistent illustration of loneliness/isolation as darkness:
