Author Ask Tag Game
A huge SORRY and thank you to @mjparkerwriting for tagging me in this waaaaay back in August (what the heck - how did this happen haha).
What is the main lesson of your story (e.g. kindness, diversity, anti-war), and why did you choose it?
That sometimes being a strong, independent woman isn't enough. Sometimes we can't succeed alone or even with the help of loyal friends. Sometimes it really does take structural, systemic change and that change doesn't happen in a single life time.
As for why I chose this theme... I didn't really. I started with a premise (princess runs away from arranged marriage and accidentally falls in love with guy she was betrothed to). When I turned that premise into a plot with stakes I decided to have something that pressured the protagonist to go back to her marriage. The thing I chose was needing to prevent a war. The theme just kind of emerged from the tension between her saving her people and not being trapped in a marriage she didn't want.
2. What did you use as inspiration for your worldbuilding (like real-life cultures, animals, famous media, websites, etc.)?
Southern England (loosely) in 1333 AD and some other cultures that would have been in contact with, bordering, or having diaspora in England (Wales, France, Breton, Al Andalusia, Persia, Byzantine Empire, Jewish diaspora, and like one thing from Scotland).
Other inspirations include a few Shakespeare comedies, how Tolkien uses English speech patterns to indicate social class, the Robin Hood myth, and Tennyson's poem "The Splendour Falls".
4. How many chapters is your story going to have?
Draft 2 had 15 chapters averaging between 3000-5000 words. I've already broken up one of those chapters in draft 3 and will probably break up more. So, at least 16? But I might split them all in half if I decide they are too many pages when I finally change the page size of my manuscript from standard word doc to book-sized. So maybe around 30?
6. When and why did you start writing?
The immersive daydreamer who loves to read to fandom to CinemaSins to film and tv show critique YouTube to writing advice YouTube to I'm gonna write my daydreams down so I can reread them for fun to I want to try my hand at a properly structured novel (but it's just for me) to dammit, I've put so much work in I want to polish this and publish it one day Pipeline is very, very real.
7. Do you have any words of encouragement for fellow writers of writeblr? What other writers on Tumblr do you follow?
You can edit a bad draft. It is so much easier to fix something than to make something from scratch. Your first draft is not an adequate reflection of your abilities as a writer - neither is your second, neither is your third. Asking for help is a skill, rewriting is a skill, workshopping is a skill, googling writing advice is a skill, taking a break is a skill. Your novel isn't your best work until it's done - feedback, and breaks, and months of writer's block and all. Push through. You're not a bad writer, or a good one for that matter, until there is a finished product to judge. I know looking at an unfinished draft riddled with problems can be demoralizing but you will find those problems and you will fix them. Just be patient.
I'm gonna steal MJ's idea and tag seven of my "other writers" - seven because that's how many questions are on in tag game.
@zeenimf, @ambiguouspuzuma, @macabremoons, @lexiklecksi, @sleepyowlwrites (though you've probably been tagged 1000 times in this haha), @stesierra, @ettawritesnstudies

chapter 8: cute handwriting and muddy water
The next week at school the camp faded away quickly. Ella, Olivia and I were creating a new role play/ avatar game that involved tiny versions of "ourselves". We had named them “Minies” for they were mini sized, and we would spend a lot of class just chatting about what they were supposedly wearing or what classes they were taking at school, cause they were older than us. Like actual teenagers. Like, 14. Mine was called Clarissa since I had just watched a re-run of “Clarissa explains it all” on Nickelodeon’s “Nick at night”. Ella's was called Jade and Olivia's was Miley. Ella and I had actually even "brought them" to the school camp and we had thought about their outfits both for the disco and cute everyday wear. The superhero game we had been playing since first grade was evolving into this and we were playing superheroes way less. I was sitting in class having finished my school work, drawing something related to “Clari” in the back of my notebook when we were told to put everything away from our desks cause it was Time for "Good News", which is what our school called this short catholic education class we would have twice a week. Most of the Times it would only mean it was Time for this type of group activities that were supposed to make us bond or be nicer to our classmates, or our parents, or be grateful for our lives, and stuff like that.
That day, after a long story Time from our “Good News” teachers, we were asked to write small cards of appreciation to some of our classmates. We were handed colored sheets of paper cut in half. I liked the class enough and I liked my friends a lot, so I wrote one to Liv and one to Ella and I meant whatever I wrote. Then I was wondering whether I should write to anyone else since the dynamic kind of asked for it to be broader than just writing to our friends. I really can't remember if I did write to anyone else. At the end of the class, we were told to hand in our letters and so I looked for my friends. I got one from Ella and one from Olivia as expected, and they were very nice. And then I got a third letter.
MJ handed it to me.
"This one's yours, Rees" she passed it to me, and left with a smile. The piece of paper had been folded carefully twice and for some reason I noticed just then that it wasn't bond paper but nicer thicker one. I pulled one of the corners of it and the orange card seemed to unfold by itself. It had my name written on the top of the page in big calligraphy. It read:
"Rees:
We're not really close, but I really like the Time we've been spending together. Thanks for all the help and fun during jazz!
You're awesome ! :)
From: MJ [last name initials] xo"
It really was from her. For a second, I found it so random that it prevented me from feeling just very happy. I was so glad she had specifically written about Jazz cause if not, maybe I wouldn't had been able to understand when had we hung out together, or what she was talking about.
But now that I thought about it, it was true. I had enjoyed some moments with MJ during Jazz or just before entering the dance classroom. I clearly hadn't given it too much thought but now I was really happily surprised. She had written "Help and fun", I was glad I wasn't uninviting or cocky. Sometimes I did worry about coming across as cocky with Jazz stuff, just cause I really liked it and I knew I could be annoying with the "I've been taking this class since I was 4" veteran vibe. No one thought jazz was cool anyway but I still didn't want to be conceited. Ella, standing next to me, had received a similar letter from her and was reading it. I thought that was so nice of MJ. Olivia had not received one, but it made sense cause she had changed to the other dance group and she wasn't around as much during that “Before Jazz Time”. Mary Jane's handwriting was so fresh, fun and pretty, it almost had a flirty, italic inclination to it. It seemed like the type of hadwriting a diary on a tv show would be written in. It was similar to her, and I liked that. Like a natural charm. It just made sense that she was the crush of half the boys in our class. I smiled at her from across the room, amongst her friends. She smiled back and we laugh a little like a friendly "thanks-you're welcome". I hadn't even noticed about these small hang outs but I was happy to know we'd be hanging out later today then cause we had jazz class. She looked so sincere.
"MJ's nice" I said to Ella.
"Yeah, I also wrote to her"
I looked at Ella and kinda felt funnily confused. Not even about not having written to MJ myself, but the fact that these interactions had completely slipped off my mind somehow, and I was part of them.
"She's kind of our friend, don't be thick*, Rees"
I didn't say it out loud but I could've asked Ella "since when?", just genuinely.
She did say "kind of" and MJ wrote we were "not really close". And we would only really talk during or before Jazz. She had her own friend group and we had ours. I guessed I wasn't insane for not thinking anything about it. In my world, we were just joking around together. Or repeating to her how to do a "pas de bourrée" when she asked, and guiding her through it for a couple tries until she got it right, without being a bitch about it. One thing I knew now for sure though: Mary Jane for real was not a mean girl, even if I still thought her friends were real muddy water.
*this is british slang for "stupid", so sorry loll i had to use it

S2020 Creator Wrap: Favourite Works
Rules: It’s time to love yourselves! Choose your 5 (ish) favourite works you created in the past year (fics, art, edits, etc.) and link them below to reflect on the amazing things you brought into the world in 2020. Tag as many writers/artists/etc. as you want (fan or original) so we can spread the love and link each other to awesome works!
Thanks for the tag @javistg I don’t know how I missed it, but it’s been a year...
I wish I had 5 stories written this year- I’ve only been able to put out one:
Letters To Panem I had this idea- what if the new government forgot to lift Katniss’s travel restrictions from D12? What if a letter writing campaign was instituted to free Katniss? And what if she didn’t really want it?
To everyone who commented on this story- I am sorry. I promise to reply! But, it’s been... a year...
Since I only had 1 story published this year, how about I share some of my others?
-In How Do You Know I explore Katniss and Peeta growing together via the 5 senses. I think the prologue and epilogue written in Second Person might have turned some readers off. The main chapters are written in standard Third Person. If you haven’t read it, give it a shot- and don’t let the prologue scare you!
-Redemption is different in that it is written about Katniss’s mother and her life in D4. I like this one because it was a real stretch for me to think about what her life might have been like- and, perhaps, the guilt she had to deal with in leaving Katniss in 12?
- Out Of The Woods was fun because it was my first real foray into Modern AU Everlark. My comfort level is still post MJ Everlark, but it was fun to think about how they would react in a different situation.
And, I don’t have a link to this, but I can tell you I am working on a new one! I hope to get it finished before January 4 (when I have to go back to work). It’s been percolating for a bit, and just needs to hit that “right temperature”.
This was fun to look back at some of my work. I am sure everyone has been tagged by now! But, just in case @chele20035 do you have anything? Doesn’t have to be Everlark- any new original work?

rea’s irondad fic rec list
Peter's Ghost and one (1) obnoxious orange stone by @the-reverse-mermaid I love this one with all my heart. Whenever people ask about my favorites, this one always comes to mind. It’s a cannon compliant, Tony as a ghost fic. The details here never cease to amaze me!
Could Have Stayed Beside You (Could Have Stayed For More) by @seek-rest This one is really new and so good. The focus is on MJ and immortal Peter, but it’s incredibly done so I can’t leave it out. Tuck Everlasting AU.
the peter protection program by @spideynamu I love funny fics and this one just hit all the bullet points for me. Fanboy Ned, Tony just being himself, awesome May, nonchalant MJ and so on. I feel blessed to have read it.
wandering mind (series) by celluloid WIP. These are a lot darker than the other ones I have on this list, but I’ve fallen in love with them. During the fics, Peter struggles with hallucinations and stays with Rhodey in his apartment after the events of FFH. A real number is done on Peter in this one and I. Love. Every. Second.
for peter by @hailing-stars Fics set during the five year skip that somehow include Peter are my favorite. They’re few and far between, but when they’re done well, they’re amazing. Peter as a dog is perfect.
built from scraps by @peter-stank I think everyone has read this fic by now, but if you haven’t, YOU’RE MISSING OUT! It was bittersweet when it was finished because I loved getting the new updates. It’s a biodad AU where Peter survives the Blip and Tony doesn’t. I also just adore Pepper’s characterization.
they’re okay by @iron--spider I always enjoy stories that hinge off of Peter’s status as an intern (or how his and Tony’s relationship is viewed by Tony’s employees) and this one is done exceptionally well.
You Got Lost While Getting Older by nuragay I have two immortal Peter fics in here and I’m not sorry. Immortality always provides a gorgeous opportunity for angst, and it was used very well here. Tony is immortal too!
ready or not by @blondsak SO CUTE! I absolutely adore Morgan. The other Avengers are there, too. A very fluffy game of hide-n-seek.
Excalibur by ciaconnaa WIP. Anything of theirs is always so fun to read. This is my favorite work, but I also like Vein Drain and their holiday series. Excalibur takes place after FFH and deals with the effects. Harley’s in there!
good kid (series) by @hailing-stars Another one of Hailing’s works! This was one of the first fics I ever read that wasn’t a field trip trope fic lmao. May leaves Peter with Tony because she doesn’t know how to feel about his identity as Spider-Man. Beautiful combo of angst and fluff.
Avengers Vandal by @whumphoarder & @awesomesockes I don’t think I’ve ever laughed harder. There’s lots of shenanigans between the Peter and Ned that are enhanced by the video format. I can’t say enough good things!
The Third Option by Uncertainty_Principle WIP. This is another classic, and it’s an AU depicting if May and Ben divorced before Ben got shot. It’s a little dark, but the whump is amazing.
Fall On Me With All Your Light by @frostysunflowers WIP. An Uncle Tony AU that took my heart with the first chapter. There’s lots of appearances from different MCU characters in ways you wouldn’t expect that make you nod your head and say “oh, that makes sense.” Still can’t get over how cute the grocery store scene was.
Green Glowy Slime (series) by sameuspegasus Another one of the first fics I ever read! Made me fall in love with outsider perspectives- and Monica Warren.
his greatest creation (series) by @peter-stank They have the best biodad AUs. Period. Also, baby Peter isn’t something I knew I needed until I read this fic. Mary Parker was very unique in this, and I enjoyed her character a ton.

Some Sugar
Part 3:  you think you can open my heart?
Tumblr media
pairing: sugar daddy!steve rogers x reader characters: reader, steve rogers, cassandra jones (oc), selena (oc), others word count: 3k+ warnings: angst, family issues, money problems, cursing, talks of sex summary: family can be pretty wild a/n: sorry this took so long, but shit happened--from car accidents to quarantine to a lack of motivation, and it was just really hard to write anything. I tried, but it was all shitty. Couldn’t even bring myself to finish this chapter, but I managed it, until I realized that part of this chapter wouldn’t fit in to this anymore and needed to be pushed back -insert grimacing emoji- so really this chapter could’ve been posted weeks ago lmfao IM SORRY
prev || all || next
Quiet hums reach your ear as you stare at your phone’s screen, the large sum of money with too many zeroes staring back at you. It hasn’t even been a week yet and you’ve already received your first allowance—first.
You throw yourself back onto your twin sized bed and the spring mattress squeaks horribly under your weight; you ignore it as your mind drifts to your conversation with Steve a couple of nights ago, your phone still in your hands and resting on your stomach.
“Even if you have a month left, it’s best to pay off the debt now.” As much as you wanted to pay attention to his blabbering, you were a little busy trying to keep your mind from how fast he was driving.
He had started off slow, or as slow as the speed limit allowed, really, until he got wrapped up in your story about your mom’s cancer returning, your sister’s self sacrificing nature (“She takes after you then,” he said with a grin), and your aunt and her subtle threats that were no longer so subtle.
Left hand gripped the seat tightly while your right hand clutched the handle on the roof. Your feet occasionally slammed down on the floor, braking whenever you felt Steve was going too fast for your liking. Wasn’t Captain America all about doing the right thing and following the law? Being safe? Honestly! He was lucky the streets were empty and there weren’t any cops in sight. You could have laughed at the imaginary headline: Captain America and His Sugar Baby Pulled Over For Driving too Fast. “Right,” is all you managed to say.
“I can probably wire you the money tomorrow and then some,” he said, completely oblivious to your dilemma. You didn’t—and still don’t—know whether that was a good or bad thing. “We should probably figure out how allowance is going to work first, though—hey, are you okay?”
You ripped your gaze from the blur of the world outside, eyes a little wide to find Steve alternating between looking at you and the road. “Can you—can you maybe ease up on the gas a little?”
He blinked, eyes falling to his dashboard and soon the world started blurring less and your body was no longer trying to fight against gravity. You exhaled and let go of the leather seat that you’re sure you’ve scratched up, and he chuckled. “Bad habit,” he admits. “More used to my motorcycle than a car.” Right. Captain America rode a motorcycle.
You leaned back into the seat and your head rolled against the headrest to look at him. “That’d explain it.”
He chuckled, looking at you from the corner of his eye. “I’ll be more careful.”
“Yeah, that’d be great.” It’s sarcastic, and you almost feared he’d be mad but he only chuckled in response, blue eyes twinkling with mirth. Huh.
“So, allowance?”
Allowance. Right. That’s a thing. Allow-ance. Why is that such a weird word to you now? “I trust you.” (Selena had advised you a base price of 2,000 per meeting, but you thought—like most of her suggestions—it was ridiculous. “Give yourself some credit,” she had said when you scolded her.) “Whatever you think is right, I’ll accept.”
For a moment he mirrored your frown, until he nodded resolutely and smiled. “I’ll handle it.”
And handle it he did. Not that you’re surprised that Avengers make bank because c’mon they’re heroes! You just didn’t think they’d make that much bank to spare this much money! Tony Stark? Sure. He owned a damn company—or was on the board, you don’t know anymore. But the rest? Not so much.
A familiar ring from your phone pulls you out of your thoughts and you don’t even bother checking who it is, you just accept the call.
“Mornin’,” Steve’s voice greets you, a smile very much apparent in his voice and your heart does a flip. “I’m downstairs.”
You sit up hastily and in your hurry you almost fall off, eyes darting to the closed bathroom where Esmeralda is showering. “What?” Didn’t he say you were meeting at noon for lunch?
“My meeting got pushed back to this evening, and since you asked for the day off from the restaurant, I thought we’d make the most of the morning.”
“I’ll be down in a moment.” You pause when the doorbell rings. “Please tell me you’re not at my door right now.”
“No, but that might be Peter Parker.” How does he know—Shit. Right. He mentioned knowing the kid from his internship after you told him about your sister. “Just saw him enter the building with his friends.”
“Did he see you?” You really hope not.
“I don’t think so. If he had, the kid would’ve said something.”
You let out a relieved sigh and open the door just as you hear Ned say: “I swear that was Captain America downstairs!”
“What?” He said they didn’t see him!
“Morning,” Peter greets you as MJ rolls her eyes at Ned’s comment.
“I didn’t see anyone,” she says pointedly at him, before greeting you and smiling when you let them in.
You dumbly stare after them.
“It was him!” Ned insists, making a beeline towards the window facing the street and dragging Peter along with him.
MJ turns to you as she moves around the half wall separating the kitchen from the living room, not surprising. “Mind if I grab something to eat?”
“Sure?” You still don’t know why she bothers asking.
“The windows are tinted, Ned,” Peter hisses. “I can’t see.”
“You got Greek yogurt? Oh. You do. Cool.”
Ned frowns and scratches his head, murmuring, “I swear it was him.”
You sigh, and drop your hand holding your phone without ending the call. “Can you tell Esme I got called into work?”
“Yeah,” Peter says, turning away from the window. “Sure!”
“And tell her to shoot me a text before you guys leave for school.” Peter nods, not really paying attention to you as he joins Michelle in the kitchen, already knowing the drill. “No dirty dishes in the sink.”
The last thing you see is MJ flashing you a thumbs up before you close the door behind you.
As you make your way towards the stairs, you lift your phone back to your ear. “Didn’t see you, huh?”
“I may have poked my head out of the window to say hi to the kid, until I heard them mention you and your sister.”
“Yeah. He usually picks her up, doesn’t like Esmeralda going to and from school alone,” you explain as you search around the street. With a sigh you immediately spot him. “Can’t you drive a least expensive car? You stick out like a sore thumb.”
He chuckles and you hear movement before seeing the driver door about to open. “I could always drive my motor—“
“No, no, no!” You rush towards him. “Do not get out of the car.”
“But—“
“Ned was looking out the window when I left,” you say, your eyes moving to the windows of your apartment, but thankfully don’t see him. “He still might be.”
He sighs, but obliges, the door closing.
“Thank you,” you tell him as you hang up the phone and open the door.
“They're bound to find out,” he says, raising an eyebrow in your direction as you buckle yourself in.
You know, and you tell him as much, “I don’t know how to exactly explain this—“you motion to him and you—“yet.”
He frowns, fingers tapping against the steering wheel as he pulls away from the curb. “We’ll figure it out.”
Tumblr media
He takes you to a small restaurant in Brooklyn. Light blue walls and leather seats with white and golden lights—it’s retro, super retro, but cozy. Steve keeps his sunglasses on and the bill of his hat low. It’s ridiculous if he thinks this is really a disguise that works.
The curious host leads you to a table in the back, away from prying eyes—hopefully—after you ask for a booth. He settles into the leather facing the door and you opposite of him, large painting being the only thing you have sight of other than Steve, and yourself if you turn to your left and stare at the mirror covering a third of the wall.
She hands you both menus and leaves after you take a quick scan of the drink menu.
“How effective do you think the sunglasses and hat are?”
“It’s covert,” he defends, playful offense in his voice.
You lean on your crossed arms resting on the table. “You’re literally wearing sunglasses indoors, Steve. That’s weird. And bound to attract attention.”
“Tony does it all the time.” Is he whining?
You snort, staring into the dark lenses, imagining where his eyes are. “Yeah, because he’s the Tony Stark.” He scoffs and you shrug. “He can do things like that and get away with it. Not like he’s actively trying to hide himself either.”
“Okay, I get it. It’s a little ridiculous.”
You grin, amused at the small pout forming on his pink lips. Who knew Captain America was a sulker. It’s cute.
Your assigned waitress comes by and takes your order after placing down your drinks that the hostess marked down for you both. You choose something light—a pesto caprese sandwich—compared to the hearty breakfast Steve orders for himself—a loaded omelet, heavy on the cheese. You smile up at the waitress, but you find that her eyes, although listening to you, are trained on Steve. He seems to notice, too, because he smiles politely before gesturing to you with a small incline of his head.
“How about we share a side of tater tots, sweetheart?”
You blink lazily at the nickname just as the waitress drops her gaze to you as if finally remembering that your voice belongs to an actual body. There’s a tingle that curves down your spine and you know he’s staring at you behind his dark glasses. His shoe nudges yours and his lips curl into a lopsided smirk.
You recline your cheek against your perched arm and tilt your head further into your palm with a smile. “Anything you want, baby,” you coo and Steve lifts a playful brow in question, your smile only growing wider when he nudges your shoe again.
The waitress squirms and mutters something before scurrying away.
“Baby?”
Sweetheart? you want to shoot back, but instead you remain neutral, reaching for your drink with your free hand. “Better than calling you daddy.”
He straightens, visible skin turning red and you stifle a laugh as he shuffles in his seat. “I—“ You don’t break eye contact, if his eyes are following yours, as you wrap your lips around the paper straw and suck the sweet orange juice to coat your tongue. “You can call me anything you want, sweetheart.”
Interesting. “Even Stevie?”
“Anything,” he reiterates, leaning back into the seat to rest his arm over the backrest and you smile. “As long as I get the same privilege.”
“It’s a deal, sugarplum.”
He snorts a laugh and you just shrug, trying to hide your smile with pursed lips.
“Tell me more about your family.”
The question cools you down, smile effectively shrinking into tight lips.
“Like?” you ask, suddenly finding the painting hanging behind his head much more interesting. It’s a simple painting of the beach, golden, warm colors contrasting with the beautiful cool shades of blue and white used for the ocean.
“You told me about your mom and sister, even Peter and his aunt, but you didn’t mention your dad—unless,” his voice turns soft, posture relaxing as if to put you at ease, “unless you don’t want to talk about him. I’m sorry—I shouldn’t be—“
“It’s okay,” you interject softly, lifting your head from your palm. “I just don’t know where to start.” He nods and removes his glasses with one hand as he reaches for one of your hands. “Um, my dad… he died in a car accident when I was 13.” You watch his fingers as they intertwine with yours, just like they did at the bar. Steve doesn’t seem like it, but he craves physical affection. Always seemingly touching you by holding your hand. Not that you mind it, it definitely comforted you, but you can’t help but wonder: why. “He was a good man. Smart. Loved us all very much. Loved technology,” you emphasized followed by a small laugh.
He’d spend hours tinkering with home appliances to try and upgrade them. You loved those moments the most, when you’d sit by him and he’d ask for a tool and you’d hand it to him. He’d tell you what he was doing, explain every step and process and what that change would do. He nurtured your mind, treated it as his equal.
He squeezes gently and you let his warmth cover you. “I’m sorry.”
You shrug. “It’s okay. I’ve gotten over it.” He doesn’t mention the twitch of your fingers or the way your voice falters, he instead lets you change the subject. “I also have a brother that is 3 years older.”
Unlike your sister, you, and your dad, JC has always been more artistic, preferring to follow in your mother’s footsteps in learning how to play instruments and singing. He never understood your fascination with tinkering and creating, shunning your father’s activities when he tried to get all of you to help upgrade the television or stereo or whatever project he brought home from the lab.
He frowns at that, a little confused. You don’t blame him. You didn’t exactly mention him when you talked about Esme and your mom. “Did he move away?”
“Yep,” you pop the p, absentmindedly twirling the straw in your drink. “Moved out as soon as he turned 18. Would see him twice a year at best, but we used to hear from him often. Then after I turned 18 we never heard from him again.” And he made sure you wouldn’t be able to find him, too. Changed his number, deleted all of his social media, cut ties with his friends, and vanished. Not that you were surprised, he hated the struggle you and your family went through after dad died. You had always known he’d leave at some point.
But you stupidly held onto the hope he wouldn’t leave when you needed him most.
“Oh.” He frowns, trying to think of what to say, maybe even offer to help look for him. But what would that do? That’d just bring him back to the life he wanted to get away from.
You flex your fingers in his hold, just to readjust your grip on him and hum lowly. “It is what it is.”
“Do you miss him?”
“Sometimes,” you admit, but it somehow feels wrong when you think about the last time you spent with your brother. The hurt he caused when you woke up and he was no longer there in the morning, only a single cupcake with a candle waiting for you on the kitchen counter. “Other times I—I don’t.” His thumb caresses the edge of your palm, barely grazing your wrist and you can’t help but let the negative feelings fade with his gentle touch. “What about you?”
“What about me?” he asks, soft with blue eyes staring into you. He knows you’re changing the subject, but he lets you. You don’t want to talk about JC anymore or even think about him, and it’s for the best.
“What’s your family like?” He looks at you as if you've grown another head and you flush slightly. “I meant your friends, Steve. You’re all like family, right?”
“Oh!” His eyebrows shoot up and he tenses for a moment before relaxing, smile worming its way onto his lip. “Uh, yeah. Yeah, we are. They’re great. A little out there, but they’re good people.”
He tells you all about them; from Tony and Bucky and how the were able to set aside their differences when the world needed it most and how they bonded over their love of science; Natasha and Wanda and their bond as sisters, including the fact that they could most likely rule the world if they tried; Vision and Clint and their strange friendship that was born from trying different food; Sam and Sharon and their newfound relationship that everyone likes teasing; to Thor and Bruce and their bromance born from fighting in a planet a la gladiator style—all of them, telling you things you wouldn’t hear from television or read from articles with interviews. And from the way his eyes light up and his voice lightens, there's no doubt in your mind that he loves his family just as much as you love yours.
Tumblr media
Your aunt stares at you with barely disguised distaste before unpleasant eyes move to Steve, who stands close to you still wearing his hat and sunglasses. No matter how many times you told him to stay in the car, he wouldn’t listen. “If she’s willing to send someone to threaten you, who knows what she’s capable of,” he had said, grabbing onto your hand before letting you go to get out of the car.
The check is flat on her desk, but she doesn’t move to pick it up. “How did you get this?”
“Does it matter?”
She tutts, eyes boiling with restrained anger. “I don’t want stolen money.”
That’s rich coming from her. “It’s not.”
“I suggest you take it ma’am,” Steve speaks up, breaking his silence. “And consider the debt paid.”
She tilts her head, eyes taking over Steve properly, like a huntress on the prowl. “And who exactly are you?”
“That’s none of your business,” you answer for him, moving to stand in front of him and effectively cutting her gawking. “Just sign what you need to sign and we’ll be on our way.” And we won’t have to see each other again.
She stares unblinkingly at you before wearing a strained smile. She pulls out a file from behind her and flips it open to the correct page, signing it and stamping it along with the last page before ripping it out—a receipt—and handing it to you.
You take it from her hands and scan your eyes over it—PAID. A giddiness bubbles in your stomach, but you hide it from her. “I would say it was a pleasure Magdalena, but it never is.” You turn on your heels and Steve is right behind you. “One more thing,” you pause at the door, Steve close enough to press his chest against your back. “Stay away from my family,” you warn before strutting out the door, smile curving your lips when you meet the disgruntled gaze of the man that had threatened you at your work.
He gives you a nod of acknowledgement as he makes his way into your aunt’s office.
“Say hi to Johnny for me,” she suddenly calls out just as he closes the door behind you, but it’s enough to throw you off guard. For your throat to close up and for you to stop in your tracks and for your hand to reach out for the hem of Steve’s jacket, barely caching the smirk she sends your way.
“Sweetheart?” Steve’s voice floats to your ears, warm and soft. “What’s the matter? Who’s Johnny?”
“My brother,” you say through a breath. He couldn't have come—wouldn’t have come back. There’s no way. JC made it perfectly clear he never would. You shake your head. “She must’ve been lying. Trying to get a rise out of me.”
“It worked,” he points out obviously and you sigh as he gently pries your hand from his jacket.
You don’t want to admit it, but… “It did.”
“Come on.” He slips his fingers between yours and tugs you out of the desolate building and back out into the streets of Queens. “Let’s get out of here.”
There’s a bubbling in the pit of your stomach, heart hammering as you glance over your shoulder back at your aunt, the small relief you had felt at getting her off your back tainted by the thought of JC being back, not even Steve’s warmth can ease your worry.
But there’s no way—he wouldn't. There’s nothing left in Queens for him anymore, and there never will be.

Sketchbook (Peter Parker x Stark! Reader): Chapter 8
Peter Parker x Stark!Reader (Female)
Tony Stark x Daughter!Reader
Tumblr media
Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | Chapter 3 | Chapter 4 | Chapter 5 | Chapter 6 | Chapter 7 | Chapter 8
Summary: (Y/N) never understood science-based subjects, despite putting all her efforts into studying them. Kids at school bullied her, her father, Tony Stark, was disappointed in her, and the Avengers looked the other way. Peter Parker, her best friend, and secret crush for almost two years was always there supporting her when she needed someone. However, since he became an Avenger and her dad’s ‘favorite kid’, (Y/N) doesn’t know how much longer he’ll be around.
You find yourself struggling to exist with everything working against you, and instead of asking others for help, you turn to your sketchbook.
Warnings: Nothing, just fluff… finally
A/N: Hello! This is the last installment of Sketchbook. I just wanted to take a minute to thank all of you who have supported this story through the past few months. I’m hoping to start a new series once I finish a request and possibly write the third part of Caught Web Handed… But we’ll see what happens XD.
HEADS UP, I’m considering changing my Tumblr username soon, so if you want to be updated when I do so, please reach out to me!
Chapter 8: Change
Words: 2886
-------------
*Two months later*
Your new therapist clicks her pen, writing notes down as you shake your leg anxiously.
Cheryl’s proven to be a wonderful woman. Having met her two months prior when you and your father agreed that therapy would be the best solution for your depression, she’s worked effortlessly with you. It took you about a month to warm up to her, but once you did, your feelings poured out like a waterfall. You didn’t realize how cathartic it would feel to talk about how you felt, and how reassuring it was to have someone respond to you and work with you.
You wish you had started therapy years ago.
“So, (Y/N),” Cheryl starts, sending you a kind smile. “Catch me up. You and your dad went to an art show recently, correct?”
Smiling to yourself, you can’t help but find it funny how thinking of your dad used to make you feel dismayed. “Yeah, there was a pop-up showcase on contemporary artists. Like, newer artists and all. Dad took me to it, and honestly, I was in heaven. I got to meet some amazing people and talk about the stuff I’m doing at school! Dad seemed confused by a lot of it, but he was there with me.”
Cheryl nods as she happily jots some notes down. “That’s good to hear. I’m glad to see he’s joining in on your interests.”
You nod. “Yeah, it’s funny really. We spent years not knowing each other, and suddenly we’re closer than before. I mean, we’re not best friends, and he’s not really a father or anything yet, but I’m warming up to him.”
“Do you realize that you just said the word ‘yet’?” Cheryl asks with amusement. You nod, wondering where she was going. “Your father might not be ‘your father’ in your eyes. But he’s been working on it, and it sounds like you believe you’ll eventually get to have that relationship with him.”
Something clicks in your head, realizing that there was indeed some improvement in your relationship with your father. Sure, it’s not perfect, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be perfect eventually. If there was anything Cheryl has taught you, it was to always move forward.
“Want to tell me more about school?”
The session continues like so. Cheryl asks you questions and you answer honestly. The conversation flows into how you’re handling the new CADD class (which you’re totally rocking by the way), and how things have changed at school. You started opening up more to others in your classes, first with Ned and MJ, then talking to more of your classmates in your art and CADD class. It turns out a lot of students at Midtown have a similar creatively driven mind like yourself, and instead of feeling looked down on, you started to feel like you belong.
Sure, you’re still in your science classes, and you’re still struggling. But since talking to your dad, he’s actually been quite helpful. He’s also finally allowed you into the lab. At first, your dad had you observing his work, talking to you about what he was doing. But after pitching in and sharing some of your work in your world-famous sketchbook, your dad let you work on your own stuff.
Things couldn’t have been better.
“And how is Peter?”
You practically choke on your spit. “P-Peter?”
“Yeah,” Cheryl responds as if it’s normal to talk about him. “You’ve mentioned him a few times today and in our past sessions. I’m curious to know more about him.”
Suddenly nervous, you find yourself avoiding eye contact with Cheryl. You hadn’t felt nervous in front of her since your first few sessions, and you can’t help but wonder why the mention of your best friend is making you act like this.
It’s not like he started avoiding you or anything. In fact, he’s practically never left your side. Since he helped you two months ago, you’ve found yourself trusting him more and more. The two of you got to hang out in your father’s lab often, and always trained together. He helped you get more adjusted around the Avengers again, helping you realize that they actually do acknowledge you and your hard work. Throughout all these transitions, Peter’s been there every step of the way, proving to be your best friend over and over again.
So why did he make you so nervous?
“Um, well…” You start, trying to find the right words. “He’s my best friend. He’s the guy who found me the night I ran away and helped me get back home. I’m really thankful to him honestly. He’s been a big support.”
“That’s good to hear that he’s supportive. Does he know about your depression.”
You chuckle, remembering the night he saved you. “Yeah, he was the first person I told actually.” Another memory flashes through your mind. “H-he told me he loved me once, but he hasn’t mentioned it since.”
Cheryl looks up at you curiously. “Really?”
You nod, looking at your hands. “Yeah, it’s dumb really. He told me he loved me and I thought he meant romantically. I was probably wrong though. He’s never brought it up since and it’s kind of like he never said it at all.”
“I see,” Cheryl says. “Have you brought up how you felt to him?”
You immediately shake your head. “N-no. I don’t want to cause more drama. Before everything, I used to think he was getting sick of me, and sometimes it’s hard to think otherwise. I just don’t want to bother him ya know?”
“I understand how you feel,” Cheryl admits. “But what’s stopping you from talking to him?”
You take a moment to really think about why you feel like you’re bothering him. You’ve talked to him many times about how you’ve felt since he brought you back home, and he’s always been so kind and receptive. So why did you not want to talk about your feelings?
“I guess I just don’t want to be rejected…”
Cheryl nods. “No one likes rejection. But do you feel that you are avoiding this conversation with him?”
You blink. “What do you mean?”
“Change can be an uncomfortable thing. The uncertainty of what’s to come makes us anxious, and that’s a natural feeling. Avoiding these feelings is something we tend to do so we can have control of what’s happening around us. But change is inevitable. It’s bound to happen. Peter telling you he loves you changed your relationship in some sort of way. Would you agree?
Thinking about it, you realize that your feelings for your best friend have intensified, and going back to being friends felt rather off. You nod your head, looking up at Cheryl with hopeful eyes. “And I told him I loved him back.”
Cheryl nods along, understanding the situation. “Then, I believe something you’ll want to do is to talk to Peter about this. Talk to him about how you’ve felt since this change in your relationship, and see if you’re on the same page. You never know what he could be thinking.”
Nerves start to build in your gut, and you know it’s because of how scary this change could be. Peter’s been such a great friend, and the last thing you want is to scare him off.
There you go again, you need to think more positively.
The rest of your session with Cheryl was spent talking about how you wanted to handle your feelings for Peter. She was right, change is inevitable, and that kind of scares you. But after all the change you went through recently, you know that change is something you shouldn’t be scared of, and if anything, change can be a good thing sometimes.
You just hope you don’t lose Peter along the way.
------------
Natasha falls flat on her face.
You smirk as you snap your whip and step on Natasha’s back. She pats her hand on the ground, admitting defeat. Helping her up, Natasha shakes her head in disbelief. “Wow (Y/N),” She breathes out, clearly out of air. “Since when did the mentee get better than the mentor?”
You giggle as you look down sheepishly. “Well, I have a pretty good teacher.”
Training sessions like this always make you thankful that your father allows you to train again. Instead of treating things like a privilege, your father now allows you to make choices for what you want to do. Obviously, you chose to continue training, hoping that eventually, you’ll become skilled enough to join the Avengers on some missions.
“From how things have been going, you’ll be on your first mission in no time,” Natasha says as you and her walk out of the training room.
“Oh no.” The two of you turn around to see your father approaching you. “Please don’t say that in front of me.”
You can’t help the laugh that escapes your lips from your dad’s worried demeanor. “Ah, c’mon dad. You know I got what it takes.”
He simply raises an eyebrow, clearly impressed at your confidence. “Don’t push your luck kid. I could always take away your training privileges again.” He finishes his fake threat with a smirk
“Alright, that’s enough from you two,” Natasha cuts in, putting a hand on your father’s shoulder. “Your daughter’s definitely getting stronger. I can see her coming out on the field with us soon.” She turns her attention towards you. “Ever thought of a codename, (Y/N)?”
You blink, surprised at the question. You honestly haven’t thought about that before, but it warms your heart knowing that you should probably think of one soon. “Hm, not sure.”
“Well, you have a long, long, long time to think about that,” Your father says, clearly still messing with you. “But you should probably wash up and head to the lab. I know Peter’s there working on your most recent project. You should probably join him before he stresses himself out again.”
Your mind instantly freezes, and you have to shake your head slightly to snap yourself out of a trance. Since your last therapy session with Cheryl, you’ve kind of been avoiding Peter. It’s not that he’s done anything wrong. It’s just that you promised yourself that the next time you saw the Webslinger, you’d tell him how you truly feel.
I guess the time is now.
You thank your dad for the information and leave him behind with Natasha to go take a proper shower. Trying to drag out the time you move as slowly as you can, giving yourself as much time as possible for mental preparation. The water, although hot to the touch, did not burn you, and you can’t help but feel at ease about the conversation you were about to force yourself to have.
After all, showers always feel nice, especially when you feel like you want to live.
Finally stepping out and drying yourself, you gave yourself a casual look, putting on your favorite sweatshirt and leggings and putting on a minimal amount of makeup. Looking at yourself in the mirror, you mentally say one last pep talk before walking out of your room.
‘I can do this,’ you chant in your head over and over. ‘I can do this I can do this I can do this.’
Walks to the lab still don’t feel normal, but you’re grateful that you can work in them now. Peter and you have actually been working on an old concept you had in your sketchbook; a new Iron Man suit with the same energy intake but lesser material. The original idea for this concept was so your father didn’t have to work around his typical bulky suit, but you never thought to approach him with the idea because that’d mean him changing up his look a little. You were nervous to approach your father with the idea at first, but as Peter promised, he never left your side. Your father really liked the idea, as he saw it useful in the field, and allowed the two of you to take on this project and test your new skills.
Approaching the clear doors of the lab, you already see Peter messing around with some wires. Your heartbeat immediately picks up at the sight of him. Sure, it’s only been a couple of days since you last saw him, but Peter’s always had this weird effect on you, and that hasn’t changed at all. Opening the doors to the lab, Peter instantly stops what he’s doing and sends you a genuine smile, making your heart flutter in your chest.
“Hey (Y/N)!” Peter calls out. “How was training?”
Sending a small smile back, you make your way over to Peter, taking a closer look at what he was doing. “It went well. I knocked Black Widow down.” You couldn't help your smile as you bragged.
Peter looks at you surprised. “You’re kidding me right?” You shake your head, and Peter focuses all his attention on you. “Wow, remind me never to train with you again. You’d probably kick my butt.”
You giggled at his comment, looking down anxiously. “Hey, Peter?” You question, wanting to cut to the chase. “There’s something I want to talk to you about.
Peter blinks, but nevertheless crosses his arms and leans on the table he was working on, facing you completely. “Everything okay, (Y/N)?”
“Yeah… yeah, don’t worry I’m okay.” Peter lets out a worried breath that even he didn’t realize he was holding in. “It’s just… I promised myself I’d talk to you about this and If I’m being honest the idea of talking about this is really scary but Cheryl told me that change is something that’s bound to happen and I get that but it’s also really overwhelming and-.”
“(Y/N)!” Peter shouts, cutting you off mid ramble, putting his hands on your shoulders. He chuckles to himself. “Take a deep breath. You can trust me, remember?”
You do as he says, taking a deep breath, but avoiding his eyes.
“So, do you remember two months ago when I told you that I don’t wait to live anymore?”
Peter nods his head, confused about where this was going. “Yeah?”
“... and you told me you loved me?”
Oh.
“... yeah?” Peter’s body stiffens a little.
“... and I told you I loved you too but I was unhealthy?”
“... … yeah?”
“Well,” You stop a moment to clear your throat. “W-when you told me you loved me, I thought you meant romantically. Cause if I’m being honest, I do. A-and I didn’t mention it again because you haven’t, and I didn’t know if you actually felt the same way. I-I guess I just wanted to say something because keeping this to myself has been difficult, and I need to be okay with things being different since you saved me.”
You finally gain the courage to look up at him, and meet an unreadable expression. As more seconds pass between you two, the more your heart falls in your chest. You prepared for rejection, but not for complete and utter silence.
Accepting the reality of the situation, you turn on your heels. “Well, I think I’m going to take a minute to-.”
Suddenly, Peter’s grabbing your arm, tugging you back to him, and before you could think, you feel a pair of strong, rough lips crash into yours. Your eyes widen in pure shock and you notice that Peter’s are blissfully closed. Your body slowly but peacefully melts into him, leaning into his touch as you feel his hands cup your cheeks. You rest your hands on his chest start kissing Peter back, following his lips as they moved in sync with yours.
It felt like a decade had passed when Peter finally pulls away, moving his hands down to your hips and resting his forehead on yours. Keeping your eyes closed, you focus solely on his touch and voice. “I did mean it that way, I just didn’t bring it up again because I wanted you to focus on yourself. I love you (Y/N), and I’m so proud of you.”
Finally opening your eyes, you meet Peter’s loving stare. The two of you were about to lean in for another kiss when you heard someone clearing their throat. Snapping your head up, you see your father standing by the doors, eyebrows raised curiously and arms crossed.
“Do I have to take away both your lab privileges?” Your father asks. Glancing over towards Peter, you see that’s he’s turned beet red. Quickly letting go of him, you focus your attention on the floor beneath you.
“N-no Mr. Stark… I, I uh-.”
“It’s fine kid,” Your father interrupts. “It took you two long enough.” With that, he turns around and walks out of the lab. “Steve?” You hear your father shout. “You owe me twenty bucks!”
Peter and you look at one another with wide eyes. Before you know it, the two of you burst out laughing. “Did the team place bets on us?” You ask.
“I think so,” Peter responds, his laughter dwindling, yet still smiling. “I wonder who bet what.”
“I don’t care right now,” You told Peter, walking back over to him, and placing your hands around his neck. “Just kiss me again.”
So he did.

Chapter 1: I want to be happier
Third Pov
The sound of typing filed the quiet room, along with the soft patter of rain against the window.
A figure could be seen hunched over a desk, head dropping down and backup "I need to finish this" The figure mumbled, sighing softly the figure stood out of its chair abruptly.
The figure seemed to walked out of the room down a hall way "Mr Stark. your father should be arriving at any moment" Jarvis announced.
Jarvis was the houses A.I and friend to the figure "Thanks Jarvis and please call me Michael or MJ" said 'Michael'.
Michael reached the end of the hallway and sighed when he heard 'Highway to hell' blast through the house, finally reaching the lounge room, Michael looked up to see a metal human looking suit, only to have it to open.
A man stepped out of the suit "Welcome home Mr Stark" Jarvis announced.
The man nodded his head "Good to be home Jarvis" Mr Stark said.
Mr Stark or Tony walked over to his bar, only to just notice Michael while pouring his whisky "What do you fucking want" Tony said, while shooting a glare at Michael.
Michael cleared his throat "I was getting myself a d-drink, if that’s okay to you Tony" Michael cursed at himself when he shattered.
Michael watched as Tony shake from what?
Well Michael didn't even know.
"Can you just. I don’t know, piss off to your room" Tony spat at him.
Michael watched closely as Tony’s knuckles began to turn white "But my drink-"
"Just fuck off"
"No."
"what did you say"
"I said No" Michael didn’t have time to prepare to move when the glass that Tony once held came flying towards his face and soon enough it collided with Michael’s face.
Michael screamed in pain, falling to the ground, clutching his face.
Tony slowly walked over and bent down to his height "Don’t you EVER say 'No' to me. Understand " Tony growled.
Michael only nodded his head and soon Tony left.
Michael was left sobbing on the floor wishing that someone could save him from his Father or better yet love him.
*TIME SKIP TO NEXT DAY BROUGHT TO YOU BY STEVE'S SHEILD*
A loud groan filed the room "Good morning Michael. It is 6.30am and is a slightly cloudy day with a chance of rain. I recommend on taking an umbrella to school" Jarvis said, while opening Michael’s blinds.
Michael slowly sat up stretching "Thanks Jarv" Michael got at of his bed slowly and walked to his bathroom, reaching the sink Michael bent down and splashed cold water on his face, only to flinch at the burning pain on his face
"Ahh" Michael groaned.
Looking up into the mirror, Michael studied his face, finally noticing all the little cuts and bruises on his face.
"Ugh...Jarvis, do we have a first aid kit in the bathroom" Michael bent down to check in the sink cupboards.
"Michael. The first aid kit is located above the mirror on the self" Jarvis replied
Michael stood on his tippy toes and felt the first aid kit against his finger, pulling at the first aid box, it slowly fell into Mj's hands.
Looking back into the mirror Mj pulled out some cream and applied the cream on carefully.
Looking back in the mirror Mj sighed "It will have to do".
Michael walked out of the bathroom and to his draws, pulling out old washed ripped skinny jeans and a black t-shirt with big bold letters 'Fabulous' on it.
Walking to his door Mj grabbed his school bag and opened the door.
Walking down the stairs Mj walked past Tony and his assistant, Pepper Potts "Tony, he needs a father" He heard Pepper cry.
Turning sharply on his heels Mj looked at Tony and Pepper "I don’t need a Father. I'm off to school" Mj spat.
Walking into the garage he pulled his keys out of his pocket to his 1968 Mustang. He decided to call his car 'Baby', just like Dean from supernatural as it’s one of his favourite shows.
Hopping into his car Mj put his key in before looking back at the door where Tony stood with a glare, shrugging Mj left and didn’t look back.
Arriving at school Mj looked around for his school bully Flash.
Michael walked forward not seeing flash around and walked inside to his locker.
Opening his locker, anyone that walked past would judge him hardcore, Michael’s locker was filled with picture of many different boy bands, actors and singers.
Closing his locker Mj turned around and started to walk class ....
"MJ!!"
Michael turned his head and saw his best friend, Peter Parker.
Mj laughed when Peter finally reached him, Peter was bent over huffing and puffing "Give *huff* me a moment" Peter breathed out. Mj nodded his head "How are you Petey" Mj asked.
(Yes, he goes to school with peter. Let’s just say the car is special)
Peter looked at Mj and smiled, causing Michael to blush lightly
"Oh I’m good. Aunt May asked me when you’re going to come around"
Mj nodded his head "I should be able to stay next week but if I can’t then you can stay with me at the tower" Mj shuddered at the thought of being home.
"So, what do we-" Peter paused. Mj stared at him with concern.
"Peter what’s wro-" Mj was cut off when Peter ran his fingers along Mj's cheek
"What happened" Mj felt a shiver run down his spine with how deep Peters voice got.
"N-nothing. I was cooking a-and then the glass h-heated up and -e-exploded"
Mj started to sweat when Peter narrowed his eyes "Fine, whatever you say but I'll race you to class" and with that Peter took off.
Mj laughed and ran after him, wish this moment would never end.
*Skip to end of the day*
Michael walked out of the school, pulling his bag closer to him, Michael closed his eyes for a brief second and reopen them, only to be pushed down the stairs.
Michael landed with a thud; Michael groaned.
Looking up from the ground Michael spotted Flash, the school bully, pointing and laughing at him with the rest of the school ' Just ignore it. Its like this everyday get through the pain' Michael thought.
Michael stood up and grabbed his bag and limped off to his car.
Reaching his car Michael jumped in and buckled up, turning the car on Michaels phone began to blare out 'One Direction: Steal My Girl', sighing Michael brought the phone up to his ear.
"Hello. This is Michael speaking" Michael clarified.
"Hi Michael. It's Steve"
Michaels face, went from pain to joy in a matter of seconds, "How you are doing Steve"
"Ha-ha I'm fine. I was wondering when you get back to the tower, you want to listen to another war story"
"Oh, really Steve. That would be awso- I mean yeah if that’s okay with you"
Steve chuckled "Alright then. I will see you later kiddo"
With that Michael hanged up.
5 years ago, Michael meet Steve when they first moved into the tower, ever since then Steve tells many tales of him and his best friend Bucky to stories of the fights Steve has done and even tells Michael about Peggy, who one of his many hero’s.
Michael put the car in reverse and headed off home, dreading seeing a certain someone.

Day #6 of Promptmas
Chapter 6: To break this spell!
Summary:
Identity reveal & Superhero shenanigans ruining plans
Read on Ao3
Concept: Identity reveal & Superhero shenanigans ruining plans
Dialogue: “Listen, Santa doesn’t have to know about this” & “Oh, I know exactly what you’re trying to do. But you will not ruin my Christmas. Not again. Not this year.” & “Keep doing that if you wanna end up on the naughty list”
December 22nd
Ned: See you in thirty. You know where
Time to buy the ring!!! Peter was actually very much excited about going to buy the ring for Betty, it didn’t matter that it was 9am and that he didn’t sleep the night before. He didn’t know where they were going but the reunion point was the Rockefeller Center. He gathered all his things and put his suit on his bag (just in case, you never know what could happen in New York, what if he crossed paths with Black Cat again? Or Rhino? He needed to be prepared).
He decided to walk, it was a long way on a very cold day but he needed to think. Ned was probably going to ask him about him and MJ and what was he supposed to say? Lies? Ned knew better than that. He needed a good plan if they want this lie to survive almost five days. When he arrived to the Rockefeller Center he send a message to Ned telling where he was. After a few minutes he saw Ned walking towards him.
“Hey, Ned!” Peter said enthusiastically
“Hey, fake friend” Ned looked at him with a little bit of disappointment in his eyes and tone
“Are you kidding me?”
“Why you didn’t tell me? How long how you been guys dating? I can’t believe May told me and not you”
“May told you?” Oh no! Probably half of Queens knew he was dating his roommate and they weren’t even dating
“You told her and not me! I can’t believe it, seriously. I have been waiting for this since high school and I didn’t know anything. Ok maybe the movie night was kind of a clue but anyway, I wanted confirmation not speculations” What? There was too much information in Ned’s rant that he needed to process
“Wait… what? What do you mean? First of all, May didn’t know. Second, waiting since high school for what? And third, what about the movie night?” Ned had started walking and Peter was almost running after him
“Oh, whatever. You will have to tell everyone the story tonight or Betty is killing you” He decided to leave the topic if Ned was giving him a way out of the real reason behind the surprise relationship with MJ
“Where are we going?” Ned had slow down a little and Peter was walking next to him with his backpack on his back
“Right here” Ned stopped in front of a store that had a sign where it was read MDC Diamons. Fancy and probably very expensive.
“Wow. You’re going all in, aren’t you?”
“She deserves it” while Ned said that, he pushed the door and closed it behind them
“Good morning. Welcome to MDC Diamonds. How can I help you?” A blond girl behind a glass showcase talked to them
“Hey. I’m looking for an engagement ring for my girlfriend” Ned spoke to the girl like he was telling her top secret information
“Do you have something in mind you would like to see or should I show you lots of options?”
“I want something that’s not common. Maybe different stones and not just one, gold maybe” Peter was impressed, Ned obviously had a very clear idea of what he wanted for Betty
“I have a few options for you” The girl moved around behind the showcase colleting different things
“First I can offer you engagement ring with two different stones besides the central diamond” she showed them to rows of beautiful rings. One row had green stones and the second one had blue stones “These ones have Colombian emeralds, the best quality. And these ones have Australian sapphires, also the best. They all have a gold ring and the central diamond is up to you and your budget”They looked to all the options anf then shared a worried look “Do you like a carved or plain ring? That can make it easier for you” the girl offered them a solution to their turmoil
“Maybe with some kind on design, a simple one” Ned moved his eyes from ring to ring, not daring to touch them
“What about this ones” Peter showed Ned a few ring with different designs, some with emerald and some others with sapphires
“I like this one” Ned pointed at a particular ring. The girl took it from its place and showed the ring to them
“This ring is a 14 karat yellow gold ring with engraved butterflies, a little rope design and 6 round green emeralds. The diamond can be from 5mm or bigger. Emeralds are not so common for engagement rings too”
“How much?” Peter couldn’t hold himself, he needed to know the prize
“It costs 1.650 dollars. Without the Central diamond”
“Without the diamond?” Peter knew engagement rings could be expensive but wow
“Can you show me the diamonds, please?” Probably Ned didn’t hear the prize or something, he was delighted watching the ring and not freaking out about the prices
“What kind of shape do you want for the diamond? We have round, princess, emerald, asscher, oval, radiant, pear, hearts, marquise, cushions and trillions” Now Ned was looking at her with total panic. How was he supposed to know what shape the diamond was best for the ring and Betty?
“What do you recommend?” Peter asked while Ned was looking at the girl with worried eyes
“For this kind or ring it’s recommended a round diamond but if you want something different the best options are the princess cut, asscher and trillions”
“I like trillions. What about you, Ned?”
“I like them too. What options do we have with trillions?”
“We have two options. I will show you” The girl walked inside the store and after a minute she returned with two small boxes
“The first one is a 0.45 carat diamond that costs 840 dollars and the second one is a 0.44 carat diamond that costs 1.071 dollars” She opened both boxes to show them each diamond, they were beautiful
“Why the difference in prices?” Ned was looking at the diamonds, probably trying to understand why such a huge difference when the cheapest was bigger
“It’s the size, the clarity of the stone, the colors, the symmetry and even the quality in the cut” Peter felt the hairs on his neck tingle. The diamond and ring talk totally forgotten now. He moved to the front door and saw it. Rhino was a few blocks from them.
“Ned!” Peter didn’t turn around to call Ned
“Yeah?”
“Can you come here for a second, please?” He felt Ned moving toward him. When Ned placed himself next to Peter he moved from the glass door to face Ned.
“Did you see that on the outside?” Ned had a confused face while looking at Peter, but as soon as he turned to face the glass door his face changed from confusion to fear “I need to go, stay here” Ned moved his head up and down but didn’t say a word. He liked being a Friend of Spider-Man but never quite liked being too close to the action, he was good just being the Guy in the Chair and now just the supportive voice in Peter’s ears while patrols
“Yeah, ok” The girl was looking at them as if a third head had grown in both of them “Just be careful Peter” Ned knew how bad it could get when Rhino was involved
“I will, but you need to be safe too” Peter opened the door but before he went out he heard Ned speaking again
“Peter? I’m not mad at you for not telling me, just shook. I’m actually really happy for both of you. You guys deserve to be happy” Peter knew he was going to be terribly mad when he told him the truth about their pretended relationship
Without another word, Peter moved to a close ally to change his normal clothes for his suit. He hadn’t done that since high school, he always tried to find more private places to change. He webbed his backpack to a wall behind a dumpster, a trick he developed as a freshman in college after losing two bags on the same week.
He used his webs to swing the few blocks to where Rhino was. When he got there he found a mess in the street, people running around screaming, cameramen reporting Rhino’s appearance, police trying to control the crowd and then, there was Rhino. He was grabbing a police car and he threw it across the street
“Hey, big guy! If you wanted a car as a Christmas present from Santa you probably just needed to send a nice letter and behave over the year, no need to steal them” When he got Rhino’s attention he webbed the car and pulled it down again. Nobody was hurt.
“Take as much people out of here before it gets worst” Peter said to a police officer but he didn’t move, he was standing there looking at Rhino.
“Let me help you, Spider-Man” Peter turned around and found a man on a green suit with a blue cape. Peter remembered seeing the same suit a few nights ago, on the small park in Queens. “Go away cop” The man talked to the officer while looking at his eyes and the cop immediately moved away, but without helping anyone else. There were a lot of people in danger
“Karen? Take notes on his abilities. Investigate him. Find as much as you can” Peter spoke to the AI in his mask
“Got it Peter”
“Oh, look who’s here! My dear friend, Black Cat” The guy on the green suit spoke past Peter
“Prowler” Peter turned around and found the same girl in black leather suit and silver hair behind him
“Do you guys had a bad guys reunion and forgot to invite me? Rhino is mad because he didn’t like who he picked for Secret Santa, right?” when he finished the phrase Rhino moved to the Rockefeller Center tree and started shaking it
“Oh, I know exactly what you’re trying to do. But you will not ruin my Christmas. Not again. Not this year.” Peter remembered last year very vividly. Rhino knocked him down using a regular tree that he threw at his head. He was unconscious for three days so he missed Christmas. He wasn’t letting Rhino ruin this year’s Christmas too, he had a fake relationship to put up that afternoon
Peter moved to Rhino, leaving Cat and Prowler behind. He would take care of them after Rhino, he was the bigger threat. Peter webbed Rhino’s hands to a building near them. He had designed a bigger devise for the web liquid he designed in the labs, every time he fought Rhino he ran out of webs. He wasn’t making the same mistakes twice.
------
“Every time you are around something goes wrong, Cat. What are you doing here?” The Prowler started walking around her. She didn’t like it
“Do you believe in superstitions?” She loved that mind trick, as the human representation of a black cat, everyone believed she carried bad luck with her
“I do not. But maybe I should. What do you want Cat? Are you on Spider-Man’s side?”
“Yeah. That’s definitely why I’m helping him right now fighting Rhino. He’s your guy, isn’t he? Yours and that octopus man from the other day” She needed more information, and she wasn’t in anyone’s side
“So not with the Spider. Well, maybe the bad luck will go away from us if you join us. Doctor Octopus will be very pleased to meet you” Ok, so the octopus man was the leader of this weird gang
“What about Rhino? Is he good?” She needed more information from the inside to try to end that stupid group of people that hurt innocents for the sake of power
“He’s out of control. The Doc is not happy with his behavior but at the same time, he is strong enough to end the Spider and if he does that, we can all move on to our own plans. Care to join Cat?” No, thank you very much
“Maybe if you tell me what would happen if the Spider is gone” She was waiting the Prowler would be stupid enough to tell her. While she waited for more information, she saw the fight between Rhino and Spider-Man on the back. She saw Spider-Man trying to move the people out of the fight range. She was really glad for her contacts, she could see everyone’s faces from far away without a problem.
That’s when he saw him. What the hell was Ned doing there? Wasn’t he supposed to be with Peter buying last minute presents for today? Where was Peter? She couldn’t see him near Ned
“Sorry Prowler, need to go. But we have a long pending conversation” The man on the green suit didn’t say anything. He just started moving closer to Spider-Man and Rhino. Well, good luck to the Spider. She needed to take Ned out of here before he got hurt
She walked into the crowd and past the media. Rhino was breaking Spider-Man’s webs from his hands and grabbing different things to throw at him but if Spidey wasn't fast enough the objects could hit him or the people watching the fight
“Ok everyone! You need to get out of here. This is getting bad. You all need to get out of here. NOW” She was standing in front of the crowd and started pushing the people softly to move them away from the fight
“I’m not going anywhere” She heard the phrase and cursed Ned in every language she knew. Why he wanted to be there so bad?
“Are you seeing the flying objects?” The frustration was getting the best out of her “Don’t you have someone close by to take you out of here? A Friend?” Where the hell was Peter?
“I’m not going anywhere” Ned repeated and she wanted to kick him now, instead, she grabbed his arm and started moving him when a flying car crashed next to them, the hit was so strong and close to them that they ended up on the floor. Ned hugged a little package and when he tried to lift himself from the ground, the crashed glass of the car cut his knees and hands. The fear in Ned’s face was visible and her rage grew even more if possible, the stupid Rhino hurt Ned and she was ready to kill Rhino by herself.
---
After Rhino threw that car to a running crowd he saw it. Black Cat was pushing someone to a building. What the hell was she doing? Now she was kidnapping people? First Rhino doing a tantrum, then Prowler trying to hurt him and now Cat kidnapping people? What the hell was going on?
“Hey Cat! Where you going?” When she turned around she released the man’s arm and he also turned to face him. When he saw who was, panic and rage ran through him “what are you doing here? Didn’t I tell you to go?” his panic didn’t let him think about the consequences of his words
“You know him?” Black Cat asked Ned with a surprised face
“Everybody knows Spider-Man”
“Of course everybody knows him, but he knows you! Spider-Man, can you tell your friend to get the hell out of here? He is not listening”
“Why should he listen to you? You were dragging him to a building for what? What if you hurt him? Saw you with the Prowler. Making plans or something?” Peter knew he messed up in the moment her face turned a bright red, the rage was palpable. What if she was actually helping Ned get out of there?
She spoke to Ned’s ear. Whatever she said made Ned’s eyes opened and his brows went together. Ned looked at her from head to toe and he started moving with the crowd, away from the fight
“My job here is done Spider” Her tone spit venom. He saw her moving away from him and couldn’t hold himself, he felt guilty
“I’m sorry! He is my friend, we’ve known each other for long and I care about him. Freaked out a little when I saw you pushing him. He didn’t look like he wanted to go. I shouldn’t have reacted like that, you were helping” Peter didn’t know why he told all of that to Cat. His senses were always off around her, like she wasn’t a threat. Maybe he could trust her.
Before she could say something, Prowler and Rhino tried to attack him. His senses screamed at him at the danger. He webbed the car Rhino had thrown a few minutes before and he launched it to Prowler first and then to Rhino’s head. They both were on the floor after the hit and Peter saw the police moving to them. He took the opportunity to thank Cat for helping not just Ned, but the other people that was around
“Thank you for helping. You saved him”
“How long have you known each other?” Her curious eyes went through him
“School” Maybe his senses were off around her but he couldn’t trust her completely, she was talking to Prowler after all “You said something to him that make him go. Can I know what that was?”
“I know what he was supposed to be doing, and maybe I dropped a name that made him move.” Betty. Her name made him go. So she actually knew Ned. Maybe it was someone from college or work.
“Can we talk somewhere else? I have a few questions for you”
“Lead the way, Spider” Peter bet she had a lot of questions too if they both tried to save Ned.
“Can I take you with me somewhere safe?” Peter had a confidence rush and decided to act on his weird attraction to Black Cat
“How?”
“Swing with me?” He saw the doubt on her face for a second and then it was gone
“Why not? How are we supposed to do that?” He moved closer to her while he thought about his next move
“That’s a very good question. I have never done this. Amm, you can hug me?” He said the last as a question just to give her more options if she wasn’t comfortable
“Yeah. I think that will do” Cat moved closer to him and placed her arms around his neck. He could smell her perfume and found it familiar, she smelled like MJ. He didn’t get his mind around that thought, lots of people bought the same perfumes, nothing worth to think about
He placed his hand around her waist to pull her closer, when he shot his web they both jumped. She placed her long legs around his waist making the position very intimate. Peter moved through the buildings for a minute and decided to land on a rooftop high enough so they could talk
“Thanks for the ride, Spidey” Cat moved her legs from his waist but her arms remained around his neck. “Listen, Santa doesn’t have to know about this, you are probably on the good boys list and I don’t want to ruin your Christmas present” Peter didn’t get what she was talking about until she kissed him on the cheek, his mask between them, many thoughts and feelings running through him. His main thought was MJ, he was supposed to have a relationship her. It was a fake relationship but he still felt bad, like he was cheating on her
“Keep doing that if you wanna end up on the naughty list” Peter said and she moved her arms from around his neck while containing a small laugh. Peter knew it was a terrible come-back but it was the only thing he had in mind at the moment
“You had questions”
“You obviously know Ned and Betty. How?”
“School” Her answer was simple but it implies many things. Did she know who he was too? His silence have her the clue to keep talking while he freaked out a little. What if she knew who he was and wanted to hurt him? Now they were alone and his senses were too calm to be true “Why don’t you take off you mask, Peter? This is getting ridiculous”
“What?” He felt the sudden change in her voice. She didn’t sound as smooth as she had just a few second ago
“Let’s do something. I take off my mask and wig and you tell me how on earth the clumsy, nerd, loser Peter Parker ended up being Spider-Man. Deal?” It wasn’t her, no! That’s impossible. He was speechless
Black Cat took off her gloves. Peter was watching everything in slow motion. Her right hand moved to her silver hair and her left hand moved to her mask. She removed the wig and mask, brown curls falling over her face and again, he was speechless. It front of him was MJ, his roommate and fake girlfriend for the holidays, with a black leather suit, silver wig and a cat mask on her hands
“You can take your mask off, Peter. No need to hide” He felt like he had woken up from a dream, a nightmare actually. He was getting out of air inside his suit and his hands moved to the back of his neck. The mask was on the floor after a few seconds
“How the hell this happened?” The shock was visible now on his face
“How the hell you happened? I always thought about the possibility of you being Spider-Man but you both are so different, yet so similar, it was very confusing. After living with you I believed you were just good friends with Spider-Man for the Stark connection with the Avengers”
“A radioactive spider bit me on a school trip. Did a radioactive cat bit you or what happened?” MJ laughed at his comment and took a while to answer his question
“No radioactive animals for me. Just a little bit of tech, training and a nice suit.” Peter’s first thought was that it was a very nice suit in fact. He had so many questions for her, that’s probably how Ned felt when he found out Peter, his best friend, was Spider-Man.
MJ sent her hand to a belt she had around her waist and pulled out her phone. She unlocked it and all Peter could see were her eyes and fingers running through the screen
“Ned is asking where we are, if we are ok, he says we were on TV and knows we are together somewhere but would love to know if we are ok. He is already at the Stark’s house, they are waiting for us” She read the messages to him and saved her phone again on her belt.
“We should go and talk about all of this later”
“Yeah. We have lots of things to talk about. For now we have a fake relationship to put up for our family and friends. Remember me to take some pictures and send them to my sister explaining why I’m not going to the family dinner with the Jones”
Peter saw MJ move to the edge of the building and disappearing when she threw her rope somewhere he couldn't see. He moved to the edge too and shot his web to go home with MJ dressed as Black Cat, the thief he had being wondering about from a few days ago and a decision, they were going to convice everyone they were dating, not to prove them the opposite

July
“Jesus Peter!” MJ yelled across the pool, holding her book upside down in an attempt to rid it of the water that joined its pages after your best friend jumped into Liz’s pool.
“Oh come on MJ! It’s our freaking grad party! Get your head out of that book, I promise it will be there tomorrow!” you giggled, causing a small crack to form in her hardened exterior. From the small smile that snuck onto her face spilled a mumble of agreement as she took off her coverup and joined the group in the pool. Ned and Peter continued their game of Marco polo but now with a third player while Liz sat to your left absolutely glowing in the sun as you both bathed in the warmness that soaked into your skin. Flipping over to your stomach, the cool grain of the sun chair melted away like the stress off your shoulders in the rays that hit your back. A content smile adorned your face as your favorite accessory on most days but today it was a little bigger. The soundtrack to your life was the laughter of your 4 best friends and Aunt may tossing burgers on the grill and you wanted to loop the song for eternity.  This bubbling gratitude showed itself in the form of a wider smile you flaunted throughout the day.
“Kids! Burgers are done! Come up on the deck yeah?” Aunt May's voice seemed to prompt the apocalypse as MJ, Liz, and Ned sprinted past each other, trying to be the first to the food. A smooth chuckle behind your back sent butterflies to your stomach as you heard Peter exit the pool.
“Not hungry?” he teased, grabbing the towel off the concrete next to you.
“Just trying to enjoy the moment a little longer” you smiled, stretching your legs out a little before sitting up and facing the brunette in front of you. A semi-dry hand extended in front of you as he finished drying off his hair.
“M’lady” A giggle escaped both of your lips as you accepted his hand to get off the low sun chair. “You don't have to wait up for me, I’m gonna clean up down here a bit, will you tell aunt may i’ll be there in a second?”
“Sure, don't take too long. Not sure how much will be left after MJ gets her hands on the food” you poke, sliding on your flip flops and heading up the deck. “Aunt May, go grab a seat! You’ve done enough,”
“Y/N, you're too sweet” she sighed as you took the apron off her and handed her a made plate.
You flipped off the grill letting it cool before you scrubbed it down and closed it. “Peter said he would be right up Aunt May”
“Of course you would know,” Michelle snickered quietly causing a blush to raid your cheeks. You found your seat next to Ned as you put your feet up across his lap. The empty chair next to you was soon filled by Peter.
Ned’s head dropped a little as he played with the last fry left of his plate. “Man, I’m gonna miss this”
The mood grew somber for a second before you gently slapped his arm, “Ned! There's nothing to miss silly! The three of us got chosen for Stark apprenticeships and MJ and Liz will be right across the street at NYU!”
“Yeah, you're not getting rid of us that easily” MJ chuckled, lifting the spirits of the table around us. Aunt May was the first to go inside. As food was eaten and laughter took over most of the conversation, the sun drifted lower and lower into the sky and the only illumination came from the LEDs lining the porch. Somehow you found yourself curled up on Liz’s lap while MJ stretched out over Peter and Ned.
“An-and remember when Ned accidentally stole Mrs. Hairns textbook!” MJ cried, laughter and tears emerging from her face as you all mirrored her expression.
“I thought she was gonna kill me” he laughed, furthering your fit of giggles.
After this, Ned was the next to enter the house, not that it surprised anyone. He was practically a zombie without his mid-day nap. Then about an hour later, it was MJ, citing her tiredness to ‘putting up with you fools all day’. Leaving just you, Peter, and Liz.
“Man what a day,” Liz sighed as the three of you walked down to the lawn, blankets in hand. You laid them out and each found your spot under the stars.”I’m really gonna miss you guys”
The bottom of your throat contracted slightly as tears welled in your eyes. “Yeah, I'm gonna miss you too.”
“Y/N, What about what you said earlier! You guys can't be losing hope this early.” Peter nervously retorted.
You braved back the tears and half heartedly agreed,“Yeah, yeah, you're right… I think I’m gonna call it a night.” The two called goodnight to you as you climbed the stairs and enter the dark house. After showering the chlorine and dirt from the day off, you got into your pjs and went to set your alarm. Crap. You crept down the stairs to retrieve your phone from the lawn. You quietly opened the door and pattered onto the deck.
“Peter… Things are gonna change after today… I just wanted to let you know…” You froze at Liz’s queue, peering over the bannister onto the lawn below you. “I am afraid of losing you guys…. I’m afraid of losing you…”
Peter swept the hair behind her ear and placed a gentle kiss on her lips. “Nothing will come between us… or the group… I promise.”
Famous Last Words...
My heart dropped into my stomach as I quickly snuck back into the house and to my room. When I collapsed, I let the tears fall freely.
August
“I can't believe my babies are leaving the nest!” Aunt May cried as Peter packed his last box into your car. Aunt May insisted on seeing you out before you drove upstate.
Peter's face turned a bright pink as he closed the trunk and turned around, “Aunt May.. We’re only like an hour north..”
“That's an hour too far,” she retorted, pulling both of you into a tight hug. “Stay safe, drive slow, and call me when you get there!”
Your eyes teared as the warm safety that encompassed you dropped with her arms. “Of course Aunt May, Love you” Wiping your eyes, you hopped into the car with Peter copying you on the passenger side.
“Ready?” he sighed, a smile replacing the frown that was seen on his face just moments ago.
You turned the keys and released a sigh of content as well when the grumble of the engine filled your bones. “Yeah” The trip was a short one. Peter mostly scrolled through his phone and you mostly sang to the songs on the radio.
After arriving at the new apartment Ned, who had already been there for a week or so, rushed out to help carry in their boxes, “Hey Losers!” After exchanging greetings, box after box was unloaded and placed in the new 4 bedroom suite you shared. You took your time tediously unpacking your contents throughout the day and placing them throughout your room. The boys, not so much. By the end of the night, both of the boys were out in the living room because their rooms were blocked off by boxes. Their sleeping figures warmed your heart as a sad smile found itself on your face for the 30-somethingth night in a row. Finding your way to your bed, your heartstrings were pulled in harmonious fashion, wailing a ballad only you could hear. With another sleepless night threatening your hollow shape, you sighed and walked into the kitchen and bathrooms, unpacking almost the entire apartment.
The boys awakened around 7:00 due to the rustle of you sorting through the living room boxes and unpacking them. Ned was the first to notice the lack of boxes. “Damn Girl, what time did you wake up!” he laughed.
“I couldn't sleep last night, that's all” you nervously chuckled, catching the attention of Peter.
Concern painted itself on his face as he walked over and knelt in front of the box you were unpacking. “You couldn't sleep?”
“Yeah, its nothing”
His hand reached out and grabbed yours, stopping you from unpacking, and his eyes searched yours. “What's wrong Y/N?”
“N-Nothing Peter. Just not used to the new setting that's all”
He let out a suspicious “ok” and returned to his playful behavior with Ned in the kitchen. You quickly wiped a tear from your eye as you picked the box up and folded it, throwing it into the pile.

Happy Fanfic Writer Friday (#FFWF)! Tell us the meta about your writing that you really want to ramble about (symbolism you’ve included, character or relationship development that you love, hidden references, callbacks or clues for future scenes?)
OMG THIS IS SUCH A GREAT ASK!!!
Okay okay, because you basically gave me permission to ramble, this is gonna be so freaking long, but I’m doing it anyways, because I want to do every story that has it because I try to do stuff like this a ton, especially in multi-chapter stories!!
Okay, I’m gonna focus on only AO3 stories this time, since those ones are the ones that really have a lot of this, and I’ll talk about them in order of most recently published/updated (though not all are included in this list because some are simpler than others lol). That said, spoiler alert for anyone who hasn’t read these stories.
AO3:
Who Knew Birthdays Could Be So Complicated
My favorite thing about this story is that it’s based entirely on poking fun at the fact that so many MCU villains are only villains because Tony made them mad somehow, because I think it’s hilarious and I’m proud of how I was able to poke fun at it while still properly representing the beautiful relationship between Tony and Peter and their individual characterizations.
This has a very subtle incorporation of Spideychelle, because it takes place after Endgame, but assumes Far From Home never happened, so Peter and MJ aren’t really a thing yet, but you can kind of tell they’re going to be if you take notice of the way they react both around each other and about each other in this fic.
There’s also a very subtle incorporation of Happy/May for the same reason--Far From Home hasn’t happened (yet), so their relationship is only just starting to come to pass. It’s referenced through Tony and Peter’s suspicious/surprised reactions when Happy suddenly wants to be with May all the time.
I love the way I made time pass in this fic. At once point, I transition between scene using a watch, and throughout the fic, the passing of time and the number of minutes are constantly mentioned to serve as a sort of countdown as events transpire, and it’s subtle, but I feel like it really helps follow the passage of time and make it all even more realistic.
It was hard to figure out how to express this, so I’m not sure how many people actually caught this, but I loved how I subtly showed that Bruce wound up finding a way to reverse what he did before Endgame and bring himself back to his normal self in order to help the city better.
There’s a really subtle reference to Peter’s sensory overload when Perceptivo starts talking about how he was able to grab Peter in the first place. He never finishes his sentence, but the reader and Tony get a sense of what he’s getting at.
Everytime I write in adorable Peter and Morgan moments, I get excited about it, and this fic is no different. That said, I love the way their relationship is portrayed, even if it is brief.
Lastly, I love what I did with the chapter titles for this story. The titles match up, outside to in. The first and last chapter parallel each other as general titles (”The Unexpected Surprise” and “The Real Surprise”). The second and seventh title both reference a phrase said/implied in the chapter (”Forty-Three Minutes” and “Unconditional Love”). The third and sixth titles chapter titles that summarize the chapter, with the sixth one being a Star Wars reference, because of course ;) (”Lost Sleep, Long Night” and “It’s a Trap”). And lastly, the fourth and fifth chapters are lines quoted by the Peter and Tony in their respective POV chapters (”I Need to Handle This on My Own” and “Dammit Kid”). I worked hard on those, and I’m so proud of how they lined up.
Always and Forever
I love love love how the sibling relationship between Peter, Harley, and Morgan develops in this one. I love that Harley and Morgan have an established relationship through video, but there’s still a sense of distance there, and I love how Peter and Morgan have a pre-determined relationship because of the stories Tony used to tell Morgan about Peter, but he doesn’t want to overstep, so it creates distance. I love Harley and Peter knowing about and already respecting each other and then being able to actually get to know each other for real and everything that comes with that. I just love how these three slowly get to know each other, but in a way, they already knew each other so well that they’re basically already family. It’s exactly what I was shooting for, and I’m glad that it seemed to come out that way for readers and for my own self-analysis.
I am also particularly proud of Morgan’s voice in this story. Peter and Harley, both being teenagers, were a little more natural, but Morgan, as a four-year-old, took some tweaking to perfect, but in the end, I really felt like I could hear the four-year-old innocence and hope and love and I felt like it lined up so well with everything else in the story as she comes to terms with everything that happened and works through it in the only way she can--with help.
Most of the references/callbacks in this one are super obvious, but there are a couple that are more subtle. There’s a small reference to that “you’re a mechanic, why don’t you just build something?” scene in IM3 where Harley gets Tony out of a panic attack, and to Harley’s dad leaving him. There’s also a reference to Peter’s uncle dying when he mentions that he’s “been through it before”. I also included a little bit of subtlety in reference to the fact that Pepper never actually changed her name to Stark, canonically, and added the emotional element of it in the epilogue.
Each of the objects/memories that the three kids hold close has a lot of symbolism and intent behind them, and they fit in with the chapter titles. In “Every Picture Tells a Story”, Peter’s memories are in pictures because of the picture of him and Tony in Endgame that made Tony invent time travel (it totally made him invent time travel don’t even try to fight me on it). It represents that timeline of events where Tony really truly had a kid with him that he could love and cherish and who loved and cherished him back, but in a way that never needed words--just actions and photographs. In “Reminders of How it Used to Be”, Harley’s memories are in his phone through text messages, because he and Tony always connected technologically, even from a distance. They initially bonded over fixing the Iron Man suit, and the idea that Tony continued to upgrade Harley’s tech into his later years fits really well into their relationship. Even though they were far away, they learned how to express how much they cared for each other through words and objects. Lastly, in “No Hugs are as Warm as Yours” Morgan’s memories are in a recording of her Dad, because Morgan was the one that Tony truly got his time with--the one that was truly his to cherish and hold that he would never let go of. After Peter, and with Harley’s distance, Morgan was the one that Tony was determined to love with everything he had, and in doing this, he gave her a piece of him every day, and she could always hold him close to her heart and have him do all the special things with her that only he could do. The recording of him, that’s small enough to clutch to her, but big enough emotionally to represent everything her father did for her, and shows a tiny part of something that only her dad does--a lullaby her mom doesn’t sing, and a lullaby he’s never sung to anyone else--is a great representation of the piece of his soul that Tony gave to his daughter, just by being her dad. Maybe I tried to read too much into all of that, but I thought those subtle little representations were really crucial to this story.
Another thing I love that I tried to break down is that everyone had a different name for Morgan. As the precious little one who just lost her dad, she’s kind of the center of this story, in a sense. Harley and Peter bond over helping her through her nightmare, and that brings the three of them closer. Morgan makes Peter and Harley smile in the dark times, and they do the same for her. Morgan had the most to lose from this, because Tony was, theoretically, the only one she had, but the message of the story winds up being that he wasn’t, because she has all of these other people in her family too. Because of that, there’s a nice subtlety that I had where everyone has a different nickname for her, because everyone contributes to her story and her life in a different way. Pepper’s nicknames/terms of endearment for her are sweetheart and little miss; however, “little miss” is one that Tony used to use, so Pepper only started using it after Tony died (so...in this story). Tony’s other nickname for her, canonically, is Morguna. Then, Peter’s nickname for her is Morgs, and Harley’s nickname for her is Mo. Most of those only really appear once, but it’s a cute little characterization thing that I worked hard to include.
Lastly, another method of symbolism in the chapter titles is their lengths and, again, parallelism. I already talked about the second, third, and fourth chapter titles, all of which are a little shorter and represent the different object symbols for the kids and their connection to Tony, but I also added some symbolism and parallelism with the first and last chapter titles. Both of those titles, because those chapters have the perspectives of all three children, are longer and include parenthetical statements. Additionally, the first chapter title represents a lot more distance: “It’s Hard to Say Goodbye (To What You Want Forever”. This ties in not only to the fact that Tony’s gone, but also to the fact that, in the first chapter, while all three kids’ perspectives are included, they’re separate and apart. But then the last chapter title, “I Can’t Solve All Your Problems (But I Promise You Won’t Face Them Alone), represents togetherness, which is exactly how that chapter winds up playing out--all three perspsecitves collide, and they wind up helping each other through the grief. Symbolic titles are always fun.
To An Amazing Big Brother
This one is filled with subtle references. Sam leaves ScoobyDoo on for Dean, referenced as a favorite of his several times canonically. Sam also mentions how Dean checks under the bed every night, which was supposed to connect to the scene where Sam tells Dean that his dad said the monsters under the bed weren’t real and Dean told him it’s because he already checked there. Dean’s grumpiness over the lack of bacon is based off of two scenes: the one where Dean’s mad that Sam won’t let him get bacon, and the one where Sam’s mad that Dean won’t buy veggie bacon. The fact that Dean keeps the journal close for the next twenty-eight years is a reference to that photo of Mary that he’s had since he was a kid that he brings with them everywhere. Dean mentioning that Sam had grown up so much in three years is supposed to reference the many times in the show that Dean mentions that he wished Sam could’ve been a kid longer. The candy bars and the Hot Wheel car as his birthday gifts represent how Sam gives him “fuel” for Dean and Baby as gifts in the Christmas episode, and the fact that Sam mentions that Uncle Bobby helped him with it is a reference to Bobby giving Sam the Samulet to give to John in the Christmas episode, which he eventually gives to Dean. Lastly, the birthday pie represents the many, many times Dean says he loves pie. So I guess that all ties into symbolism, references, and callbacks/clues for future scenes, but in any case, there are a lot of them.
The other thing that comes into this is the symbolism of the photo album. The fact that it’s something Bobby put together shows how Bobby was always a true father for them (at least, in my opinion, but, I mean, come on, he was), and the fact that it takes place over several years and very rarely actually has Bobby in the photo just represents how much he got to watch them grow and how much he was there for them. On top of that, it represents Sam and Dean’s brotherly relationship for two reasons: first of all, it shows how they grew up together and basically never left each other’s side; second of all, the message Sam writes, “Thanks for always being there for me. I know I can always count on you.”, is a huge representation of everything Supernatural is and stands for when it comes to Sam and Dean’s relationship--they can always count on each other, no matter what.
The Meaning of Christmas
There isn’t really that much in this one, but I did want to mention that I put a lot of research into making the locations as realistic as possible, so Ellen’s Stardust Diner and 7th Avenue are both real streets in NY popular for Christmas shows and Christmas lights, respectively. I don’t live in NY, so I don’t know how accurate any of that was, but I tried my best, and I feel like it worked.
Training Session
This one doesn’t have anything too deep overall, but it does include a couple of Endgame references and one from Ant-Man. Morgan and Nat’s training with practicing punching was meant to loosely reference the Ant-Man training session between Hope and Scott--with the failed attempt, but slowly getting better. Harley and Clint training--with Clint adjusting Harley’s footing, Harley making it dead center, and Clint high-fiving him--were all references to Clint and his daughter shooting arrows in Endgame. Lastly, while this is pretty obviously an Endgame reference, Morgan does say “I (still) love you 3000”, and Tony says it back, so there is that. XD
Wow! This was honestly kind of hard to break down, but also really fun! I’ve definitely gotten better at symbolism and references in recent months--most of these were a lot more recent, especially the ones with loads of commentary XD--but in general, I think my character development in pretty good, and I still try to incorporate as many things as I can, subtle or otherwise.
I hope this answered your question, and I’m sorry it’s so long, but this was really fun! Thank you so much for asking! <3

{masterlist}
By the time Peter Parker realized he had fucked up, he was already home in bed.
The day had been as normal as the day of a teenage superhero in New York could be.  He had gone to school, aced an English pop quiz on Macbeth, and had lunch with Ned and Michelle.  He had even made Michelle laugh, an honest-to-God, uncontrollable laugh, with one of his jokes, which normally just earned him an eyeroll, and, occasionally, the smallest of smirks.  Next had come chemistry, where he began mixing a new batch of web fluid without anyone detecting him, and robotics club after that.  It wasn’t until he was patrolling after school that things had taken a turn for the abnormal.
When Peter had seen the car coming for Michelle, he first thought he wouldn’t make it to her in time.  The thought of not being able to save her…Peter turned over onto his back in bed, rubbing his eyes.  He couldn’t allow himself to think of what could have happened.  Instead, he focused on what did happen.  He saved MJ. He pulled her away from the car, he made sure she was okay, held her in his arms…
Peter cleared his throat, squeezing his eyes shut.  Holding MJ so close to him…he had liked it more than he should.
Michelle Jones had been a bit of an enigma for so long that when she began to open herself up to Peter, he had dived in head first.  Getting to know Michelle was a privilege that she didn’t grant to many people, and Peter didn’t take the gift lightly.  Every time Michelle let down a bit of her guard in front of Peter, he felt a sense of pride, which turned into affection, which turned into…
Peter wasn’t sure. He knew he admired MJ; she was one of the smartest people he knew, not just at school, but on the streets, too. She taught him all about social issues, helped him challenge himself in how he acted and the things he did, and so much more.  She was witty and honest and observant and beautiful.  To some, she was abrasive, but to Peter…she was everything.
Peter sighed to himself and rubbed his eyes again.  Everything wasn’t exactly how someone was supposed to think of their best friend.  And yet.
The events of that day entered Peter’s mind again.  He had pulled Michelle tight to him as he swung her away from the car crash, and checking to make sure she was okay had been just as much for him as it was for her.  He knew he wouldn’t have been able to leave until he knew MJ was okay.  And MJ, in her typical fashion, told him to go back to saving people.  He had nodded, reached for a high-five, and tried not to get flustered when she seemed flustered.  She had tucked her hair behind her ears, and he loved the look on her face.  He was almost upset when he had to say goodbye, but—
Peter’s eyes snapped open.  It was then that he realized his mistake.  And to make the mistake with Michelle, someone who noticed everything…
But then again, it could only have happened with Michelle. Michelle Jones was the only person who could make him so flustered that he forgot that Spider-Man didn’t know who she was, let alone her name, or her nickname (which she herself said only her friends called her).
“Jesus, Parker.” Peter groaned under his breath, sitting up in bed. “You idiot.”
Peter rubbed his forehead, trying to ward off the headache he knew was inevitable.  Calling Michelle by her nickname was second nature to him now, and he hadn’t been able to stop it from slipping off his tongue. But then again, she was shocked and dazed from the incident.  Maybe she didn’t notice.
Peter snorted as soon as the thought entered his head.  She was MJ.  Of course she noticed.  She noticed everything.  There was no point planning for what to do if she knew his secret.  Peter had to plan for how to approach the subject to her.  It was too late to do anything preventative. No, Peter had shut the door on that option the moment he was unable to shut his mouth.  Damage control, that was what he needed to do now.  It was the only thing he could do.
When Peter made it to school the next day, he was a nervous wreck.  He had barely slept the night before, had hardly touched his breakfast. May even thought that he was sick, insisting on checking his temperature before he left the house.  Part of Peter thought that it would’ve been easier to lie to her and say he was ill, so that he wouldn’t have to face MJ at school. But Peter hated lying to his aunt, and besides…he wasn’t very good at it.  Instead, he took his usual subway train to school (with people giving him a wide berth due to his appearance), grabbed the books he needed from his locker, and made his way to his first class.
Michelle was already there when Peter arrived, sitting in her usual seat that was one row over and two rows up.  Her messy curls were tucked into her usual haphazard bun, and she was wearing a grey t-shirt with a blue jacket overtop.  Her posture was hunched over as she doodled in her notebook, paying little attention to those around her.
Peter kept staring as he walked to his seat, sitting down smoothly and quickly.  Students were still filing in, moving between his line of vision to Michelle, but she still hadn’t looked up.
An uneasy feeling creeped into Peter’s stomach.  Was MJ mad at him?  Was she angry that Peter hadn’t trusted her with his secret?  When he had been running potential confrontation scenarios in his head last night, the possibility of her being angry hadn’t crossed Peter’s mind.
Steeling himself, Peter took a deep breath.  There was only one way to find out.
“Hey, MJ.” Peter called quietly across the desks.
Michelle looked up, glancing over her shoulder at Peter.  She gave him a curt nod before looking back down at her notebook.
The greeting, by anyone else’s standards, might have been a little icy, but it was a typical response from Michelle.  There was no way for Peter to tell if she was mad or not from that interaction.  He was about to get out of his seat and talk to her when the teacher called the class to order, and the opportunity was gone.
Peter spent most of the class staring at his friend, trying to see inside her mind.  Not for the first time, he wished that his spider-sense was less intuition and more telepathic.  If Peter had a nickel for every time he wished he could read MJ’s thoughts, then he would’ve been richer than Mr. Stark.
The moment the bell rang, he began making his way to her, but she already darted out of the classroom, headed to her next class.  Peter thought he’d find her at lunch, but she was mysteriously absent.
“Do you know where MJ is?” He asked Ned, looking around the crowded cafeteria.
“No.” Ned shook his head. “She’s probably reading a new book or something, and didn’t want us to interrupt her.”
“Yeah.” Peter echoed, still scanning the cafeteria. “Probably.”
Peter struggled through all his classes that day, barely able to focus on the tasks at hand. When Peter saw Michelle in chemistry, she was still acting the same, like there was nothing wrong.  Was she really this unbothered by discovering his secret?  Peter wished he could share her carefree attitude; he had already sweat straight through his t-shirt, and had to change into a spare Midtown sweater from his locker.
Decathlon practice after school was the same story.  Michelle didn’t say anything to Peter before or during practice, and Peter was left staring at her as she asked the team questions.  He was so engrossed in his thoughts that he didn’t even notice any of Flash’s crude jokes at his expense.  All he could focus on was talking to Michelle.
Peter finally caught up with her after practice.  She was speaking to Mr. Harrington, so Peter dropped his notebook on purpose, the pages scattering everywhere.  He told Ned to leave the papers, that he could get them himself.  He took his time cleaning them up, just finishing as Mr. Harrington left the auditorium.  That was when Peter spoke up.
“Hey, MJ.” He swallowed hard, his mouth suddenly dry. “Can—can we talk?”
“Sure.” She walked over to him, handing him one of his papers that he had missed on the ground. “What do you want to talk about?”
“I-I just—yesterday, I—you know…” Peter trailed off, his ears flushing pink.  He couldn’t find the right words to say.
“Yesterday…what?” Michelle asked in confusion, her brow furrowed. “What about yesterday?”
Peter frowned. “What do you mean, what about yesterday?”
“I mean, I don’t know what you’re talking about, Peter.” Michelle pulled her backpack over her shoulder. “Did something happen yesterday?”
Peter nodded slowly. “The car crash…?”
“Oh.” Michelle’s face slipped for just a second before returning to her neutral expression. “Did you see that?  I didn’t spot you in the crowd…”
“You didn’t spot—you—” Peter faltered again. “What?”
“It was pretty busy, though, so I guess that’s why.” She shrugged. “Thanks for the concern, but I’m fine.”
“You’re…fine.  Right.  Because Spider-Man saved you.” Peter said slowly.
Michelle nodded. “Yeah.  You saw it, right?”
Peter blanked for a moment before stammering out a response. “Y-yeah!  Yeah, I saw it.  From the crowd, right.  It was…yeah. He saved you.”
“Lucky me.” Michelle said, glancing at her watch. “I’m kind of running late, Peter.  Was there anything else you needed to talk about?”
Peter’s breathing was evening out, his heartbeat finally slowing.  Was it possible…Michelle really hadn’t noticed? “No, that…that was it.  I just wanted to check up on you.”
“Okay.  Well…see you around.” Michelle waved slightly before exiting the auditorium.
“Yeah.  See you.” Peter said weakly, watching Michelle disappear.
Peter couldn’t believe his luck.  Had Michelle really not noticed Spider-Man call her MJ the day before?  He thought it couldn’t be true, but…maybe the adrenaline and shock of the entire incident had distracted her.  Maybe she really hadn’t noticed.  Maybe, for once in her life, Michelle Jones hadn’t been completely observant.
Peter breathed a sigh of relief, a small smile creeping onto his face as he exited the auditorium. For once in his life, luck seemed to be on his side.
Michelle watched Peter walk down the steps of the school, a spring in his step.  When he reached the fence, he glanced around quickly before jumping over, landing smoothly on the other side.  He dusted himself off before continuing on his way. From her spot behind the stone steps of the school, Michelle sighed.  She really had no idea how Peter had kept his powers a secret this long.  But for now, she would help him do it.  After all, he had saved her life.  The least Michelle could do was save his secret.
Of course, neither of them knew the trouble that lied ahead, or how impossible that task would become.  All they knew was the buzzing feeling that came with protecting someone you cared about, and the lengths they would go to help the other person.  And really, in that moment, that was all that mattered.
For a moment, anyways.

ASM vol 5 #9/810 Thoughts
Tumblr media
I wrote this before the arc had finished so please bare that in mind if you read on because I recognize some of it might seem weird or redundant in the wake of the conclusion tot he arc.
Kinda sorta mixed feelings for this issue.
Okay so here are the aspects I DIDN’T like.
The recap page implies that the general public is starting to forget Peter ran Parker industries and that the heroes all think Spider-Man is in the pocket of the Kingpin.
Now recap pages aren’t actually part of a story so they don’t exactly count per se.
But if that is the intention of the author then the series has done a poor job of conveying the former. It’s just ignored the elephant in the room that was Parker Industry.
And whilst Spencer was saddled with that mess a mess it was nevertheless and he’s cleaned up a lot of other things. Whilst I didn’t consider it a mess necessitating any cleaning up nevertheless when Steven Moffat took over Doctor Who in 2010 (technically 2009 but that’s not important) very early on he established that the massive global Dalek invasion everyone on Earth knew about had been erased from everyone’s memories (mostly) meaning that now alien invasions could happen and new characters would react as though they were sceptical of the existence of wider alien life.
Again, this wasn’t necessary but the point being was that Moffat put the work in to fix something he perceived as a big problem that resulted from the prior regime. Spencer has been doing some of the same here but not addressed that biggest of elephants in the room that from it’s mere announcement the fanbase was collectively calling out as something that would fuck over the series going forward. Because absolutely not would the general public just forget who Peter Parker was in regards to PI, let alone the company itself.
As for the Kingpin thing, I never thought about it until just this issue but I kind of have issues with it now. Because even if the other heroes do not know Peter’s identity surely they DO know Spider-Man and/or Kingpin well enough by this point that they’d not presume Kingpin and Spider-Man to be buddies.
I mean there ARE ways to explain their feelings, like if they presume Spider-Man to be an imposter or something but him being on the outs with the other heroes merely because Fisk put on an appearance of them being friends in spite of their years of animosity shouldn’t make the heroes automatically resentful towards Spider-Man.
Again, it can work but Spencer needs to better elaborate upon it.
Moving in I did have a few issues with Felicia here. At first Spencer seemed to have her acting vindictive akin to stupidity of Slott’s run after SpOck sent her to jail. But then he explained why she was actually miffed at him and it made more sense.
 Well sorta.
On the one hand Felicia has always been in love with Spider-Man and so if in character Felicia should jump at the chance to sleep with him if he propositions her. On the other hand though she does say Spider-Man was being creepy which and we get a mere snippet of what he was doing, so presumably he might’ve gone further than that.
The other thing I didn’t like was Peter’s attitude to Felicia. Hey I’m all for ignoring stupid continuity if you are trying to fix things, but here...that isn’t happening. Peter is treating Felicia as an old friend but she hasn’t been that since 2009 and he’s still lying to her. Maybe that will be fixed next issue and their old relationship established but right now it is problematic.
Oh and also the issue seemed to treat their old relationship as being messed up due to Felicia’s criminal tendencies when that wasn’t it. They hooked up in a monogamous relationship 3 times and whilst that was why they broke up the first time that wasn’t what happened on the second or third occasions.
Finally I wish Spencer wasn’t maintaining Felicia’s tendency to be evil. Being a Robin Hood style character okay sure. But here she is basically what she was like in 2009 (except not made into a vessel for Joe Kelly’s midlife crisis sexual fantasies) but if she’s still like that her character is still in need of repair.
Now this isn’t to say I hated every moment they interacted. Far from it. it was more on point than it’s been in a long time and much improved over BND and Slott’s run. So within the context of post-OMD Spider-Man it was good but within a wider context there are still problems. It is at least written better than before, I especially loved the acknowledgment of them making for a good team.
Finally I disliked the art. Common criticism by this point but it stands.
That’s everything I disliked but on the more positive side of things I felt that the general plot of the Thieves Guild is still a fun idea.
The Thieves Guild are an X-Men/Gambit concept but Spencer has put enough distance between them that this NYC chapter of them can be played enough as a ‘Spider-Man thing’. And the notion of them swiping all the paraphernalia of superheroes through the power of super thievery is a fun superhero plot.
I also don’t mind Felicia being a member of their ranks. I mean I feel like if she always had that tattoo Peter would’ve noticed by now, but there are numerous ways to explain that. If nothing else I love the scene between Felicia and her Dad, because it humanizes her, touches on her origin and allows her to be more her own character. I feel there is so much potential to be exploited from exploring Felicia’s relationship.
Now in spite of all those complaints I actually loved this issue because of the Mary Jane subplot. There are some feelings I’m wrestling with in regards to it though but on balance I think this was ingenious on Spencer’s part.
Okay first thing’s first. The artwork by Michele Bandini looked really nice. If you are going to have two artists work on the same story dividing them up based upon the subplot and the main plot is actually a pretty clever idea. I didn’t know there was going to be two artists actually and so when I checked out the preview pages before the issue’s release I was confused as to why Ramos’ style looked so much better from one page into the next. I wish Bandini had done the whole story to be honest.
 But onto the subplot itself.
To begin with it’s just lovely seeing Spencer actually give MJ a subplot of her own and focus upon her. And it’s good focus too. So far he’s not really mishandled her in this story at all so Spencer seems to be a decent MJ writer. I hope this trend continues and the relative lack of Mj/his use of MJ within his first two arcs was more about building up Peter and also paying tribute to Superior Foes which landed him this job in the first place.
I didn’t see the Carlie twist coming. Honest of all characters that reveal could have been she was the farthest from my mind. For some reason my mind was fixated upon Bobby CCarr or Jonathan Caesar somehow.
 Now Carlie is...controversial of course.
Carlie was one of the many lame Brand New Day era characters with her status made worse than many of the other ones because
 a)      She was at times a Mary Sue
b)      She was pushed hard as the new love interest. I mean really, really, really pushed hard
c)       She had an inconsistent character design
d)      She was at times bland and at other times just...not nice. See her considering getting a Green Goblin tattoo to piss Peter off. Yes she was drunk but I don’t care how drunk or angry you are that’s like considering getting a Nazi tattoo to piss off your Jewish boyfriend. You are just nasty at that point
e)      She was an idiot during Superior despite being the most sceptical person of Otto
Carlie to say the least was HATED by the fandom.
Now look let’s not sit here and pretend the fandom hate went beyond what was warranted by the character. She was treated as an 11 on the ‘this character sucks’ scale.
But that doesn’t mean she didn’t score a very solid 7 or 8 if you catch my drift.
Here though she is arguably written better than ever before, not in the least because most of those problems listed above are being avoided or addressed.
Rather than being an overcritical and judgemental asshole like in her last appearance who either attributes blame to Peter for the horrible things happening to her or else makes it clear the nature of who he is means he’s doomed to misery because no one could put up with that, here she acknowledges none of it is his fault and he deserves happiness.
Spencer does drop his continuity ball though by listing off the wrong reason for why Peter and Calrie broke up. According to him Carlie couldn’t handle dating Spider-Man but in reality it was the fact that he was lying to her that was the problem.
Whatever though, nobody cares why Peter and Carlie broke up, so long as they did.
Similarly, if Spencer wants to try and rehabilitate the character who neglected to inform her ‘friend’ and roommate that she might be dating a villain without realizing it, okay let’s give him and this character a second chance. If Carlie wants to say she always liked MJ in spite of her douche actions lets draw a line under it and try again.
Now we move onto the meat of the subplot. The support group for superhero supporting cast members.
This idea gives me some mixed feelings and it somewhat depends upon how it  is handled going forward.
On the negative side, I do not want this to turn into a subtextually critical evaluation of how MJ handled life with a hero in a past or how older runs did. Also the story is somewhat ignoring how MJ DID have people she could talk to about this in the past, like Felicia and Aunt May. But currently neither character knows his secret, might not be finding out anytime soon so okay I guess I understand why Spencer is treating it this way.
I think Spencer’s putting in little lines of dialogue and presents a resistance within MJ to joining the group which makes it clear to us that, whilst Carlie felt alone and unsafe keeping Peter’s secret, MJ doesn’t feel quite like that even though it might be a struggle all the same.
Which is in character, remember she kept his secret for years beginning with AF #15. Similarly MJ has had issues opening up to people in the past and has seen first hand the cost of exposing Peter’s secret.
Now in spite of all I’ve said, I cannot tell you how much I ADORE the idea of a support group for super hero friends and family.
If Spencer plays this right it could wind up as one of the mainstays of the Marvel Universe’s architecture, like Night Nurse or what have you.
It just makes sense as a piece of world building for the Marvel Universe and is an emotionally engaging idea that ANY comic book series can pick up.
Moreover it highlights the innate quiet awesomeness that is Jarvis. Jarvis is like Alfred but to the whole Avengers and one of the most bad ass bad ass normals in the whole Marvel Universe so highlighting him as this proactive, helping and caring individual is appreciated.
This idea is a great addition to Peter and MJ’s relationship too as it gives Mj something to do aside from wait by a window and counters one of the most frequent weapons in the anti-MJ/marriage brigade’s arsenal.
“MJ can’t be with Peter because it’s worse than being with a cop because they get to talk to other cop’s families. It’s just so toxic for her!!!!11!!!”
See Fred Van Lente’s piece of shit MJ story in ASM #605 for proof of this.
But right here Spencer finds a solution to that complaint (which I’m sure the anti-MJ brigade just love  him for) and one that makes justifying breaking them up again a lot harder.
Also guessing who all the people in the meeting was turned out to be really fun.
Over all I loved this issue because in spite of my problems with the Felicia end of things the MJ end was brilliant.
p.s. Isn’t it a little weird for Spider-Man to not remember what ‘Spider-Man’ did when they were separate people?
I guess you could argue that his memories from ‘Peter’ might be hazy too. Or that this weird science comes with ‘rules’ like that, e.g. one side has to dominate the other.

Spider Bites (P.P)
Pairing: Peter Parker x Female!Reader
Word Count: 2003
Warnings: Biting? Let me know if I missed any but this is pretty harmless.
A/N: I was in a social situation (pool party) last Sunday and my friend and I were talking about piercings and this idea for a story came into my head. This is just a small blurb while I work on the next chapter for Dance to Remember. Hope you guys like it. Reblog, like, and leave nice comments if you want. Pic not mine, credit goes to the original owner. Please do not post ANY of my writing on different sites (i.e. Wattpad, Fanfiction.net, AO3 etc.) without my written permission!
Y/N bit her lip, smiling, as she scanned the website of Ruby’s Ink. She had been convincing her Mom for months about getting this done and she was enthralled when her Mom caved in and said she could, as long as it came out of Y/N’s pocket. Obviously, this did not bother Y/N she had been saving any money she got, knowing that her mom would make her pay when she did agree. So rather than doing the assigned math problems (she could easily get them done during her lunch) Y/N and MJ were going through the website to look at all the potential piercings Ruby’s had to offer.
“Those ones are cool.” You said pointing to the picture of black hoops with small arrows on the ends.
“Hmm…No, too edgy. You want something subtle for your first ones.” MJ stated. You valued her opinion, so you kept scrolling down.
“Okay. What about these? Their studs so like…it wouldn’t be too noticeable right?”
“Their okay. I don’t know Y/N, at the end of the day you’re the one that’s going to live with it. It’s really all up to you. What does your boyfriend think about this?” MJ asked, now working on some of the problems on the board.
“Peter doesn’t know yet.” A sly smile crept on your face. “I hope to surprise him, he supports me no matter what. And even if he hates them, he’s gonna keep his mouth shut.”
“Why do I need to keep my mouth shut?” Peter and Ned turned from their chairs now wanting to know more about your conversation. “What are you looking at darling?” Peter tried to lean over your screen to see the site. You were faster however and shut your laptop closed and stuck your tongue at him when he gave a pout.
“Come on Y/N. Can I know what you’re talking about? You know that I support you no matter what. I can still act surprised.” You bit the inside of your lip at Peter spoke, his eyes and slight innocent whine in his voice could make you do anything. But you were strong to keep this one to yourself.
“Nope. Sorry. You’re just gonna have to wait till I get them tonight.” Peter sighed with closed eyes at your persistence.
“Oh!” Ned said, “Are you talking about the…” He gestured to the bottom right of his lip. You nodded smiling.
“Oh, come on! How does Ned know?” Peter yelled, earning a hard look from the teacher.
“He was there when I asked my Mom about it. He promised not to tell you.” You explained to Peter whilst drawing small circles on his left palm with your index finger.
“Dude, I didn’t think you had that in you Y/N.” Ned continued, slightly enjoying the fact that Peter was in the dark and he kept your secret plan for so long. “Your pain tolerance is not very high.”
“MJ will be there, so I can squeeze her hand if need be.”
“Oh, if forgot to tell you that I have a family thing, so I won’t make it.” MJ gave you an apologetic frown.
“No! I need someone to go with me. My mom won’t be any help, she said that she will record me because she knows I will cry.”
“I can go with you.” Ned said. Peter was looking back and forth at each person as confused as ever.
“Perfect! Meet me at my apartment around 7:20, my appointment is at 7:30 and my mom will drive us.”
“Will someone please tell me what is happening?” Peter stood up from his chair as the bell rang and you all gathered your things.
MJ and Ned said their goodbyes as they left the class. You and Peter walked hand in hand back to your same apartment building. Though out the duration of said walk he would not stop asking you—no—probing and interrogating you about your plans for tonight.
“Can you please tell me what you are doing tonight?”
“No.”
“Please?”
“No!”
“Pleeeaase!”
“For the last time no! There is no way you’re getting this out of me Peter. I may tell you everything but that doesn’t mean you don’t deserve a little surprise in your life every now and then.”
He gave you a playful punch on the side of your arm and pouted once more. “Come on I never keep secrets from you.” You looked directly at him while walking, your face giving the expression that could only say ‘You have GOT to be kidding me right now.’
“Oh yeah, you never ever keep secrets from me. Other than the fact you were fricken Spider-Man for the longest time and fought some of the Avengers before you told me. And, you also told Ned first.” You said that last part through gritted teeth, so no one could hear your conversation. But who were you kidding, people were so involved in their own phones and lives that you could bump into them and not get a response.
“Really? I didn’t tell you because I wanted to keep you safe. And as far as Ned knowing first, that didn’t mean you happen and you know that. He was just kinda…there.”
“Well the same could be said for me.” You replied with a matter-of-fact tone and a smile. Peter, however, stared at you with unimpressed eyes, raised eyebrow, and flat-line mouth
“Are you telling me that you were bitten by a radioactive spider, or any animal with radioactive experimentation, and you are now a superhero running about Queens, stopping bad guys.”
“N-no…but…” Your eyes looked around trying to find the words to rebuttal his claim, but you came up with nothing. Peter smirked, thinking he finally got you to spill the beans. “I’m still not going to tell you.”
“Ple-he-hease!”
After what felt like the longest walk home with Peter and an even long afternoon, 7:20 finally came rolling around. Ned, being a punctual little bean, was there on time and you both got into your Mom’s car, heading for Ruby’s. The piercings hurt like hell but after seeing them, you know they were worth it. Ned was happy to be the pain relief you needed during the experience. After what felt like forever of convincing, you finally had them: Spider Bites.
They were simple silver studs to start off with, but you thought they were the best ones Ruby’s had to offer.
Tumblr media
The next morning, after cleaning the piercing with some hydrogen peroxide, you carefully put on deep red lipstick and got in your outfit for the day: a red jean jacket, jean, high-waisted shorts and a black shirt. Finishing it off with your old, beaten up black Converse, you grabbed your backpack and walked to school.
“You look good. Didn’t think you could pull them off but they suit you.”
“Thanks MJ.” MJ and Ned walked with you to your shared classes but when you arrived at first period, Peter wasn’t there. Even when the bell rang, and the teacher began the lesson, Peter didn’t come running in apologizing for his tardiness. The same went for second, and third,
During the last class of the day, and him not responding to any of the texts you sent him. You caught Ned’s attention during the lesson and mouthed ‘Where’s Peter?’ He only gave you a shrug and returned to the lesson. You huffed, slumped in you seat.
Later that night, you sat in bed, pajamas on, drinking a protein shake like the piercing specialist instructed, you couldn’t eat solid foods for a week, so you currently lived off protein shakes, cold apple sauce, and ice-cream. That, and your Mom was out of town for a few days, so you were forced to deal with pain on your own. While you worked on science homework, your phone buzzed.
Oh my god! I’m so sorry!
It was the Stark internship! I promise I’ll make it up to you!
Babe? Are you there?
Y/N?
Y/N!
I’m coming over. Can you please open your window?
In less than ten minutes Peter came crawling through the window and pulled off his mask. He knew you were upset with him as soon as he stepped into the room.
“Y/N I’m so sorry! Mr. Stark, he needed me at short notice last night. I couldn’t get away till right now. I know your mad at me I—Did you get piercings?” He asked pointed at your lips, a small smile tugging at his.
“Yes, I did.” You stated, arms crossed.
“They look so cool! How did you convince your Mom to let you get them? Did it hurt? Did Ned laugh when you got them? That seems like something he would do.” Peter was back to his normal self as the came close to your face and you knew that you were mad for no reason.
“Yeah it did hurt, and Ned did laugh a little bit, but it’s worth it don’t you think?” You sat on you bed and Peter joined you. “Do you know what this type of piercing is called?” You gave him a sly smile.
“No what?”
“Spider Bites.” You turned towards him and he gave you a smirk in return.
“Are they now?” Peter bit his lip slightly, making your heart race and cheeks tint red. “Well, I didn’t realize that you wanted some so badly.” He leaned in closer, lips close to your ear, “If you wanted spider bites that badly Y/N, all you had to do was ask.” He pulled away from your, kissed your cheek and then made his way to your lips. The kiss was more intense than you expected, you pulled back.
“Ah. It’s still sore.”
“That’s okay. I’m here to give bites after all.” He moved the collar of your shirt to gain access to the skin beneath it. Peter began to suck and bite the skin leaving small marks. Every now and then he would give follow a bite with a small lick and continue. You held him close, eyes closed and laughing at what was happening. Peter may hove gotten too into the event because he pushed you onto the bed, you below him as he now moved from the right to the left side.
“Peter!” You were laughing at this side you have never seen before as he growled when you attempted to calm him down. “Peter!” He finally pulled away looming over you, he trapped you between his arms. You gazed up at him, only to be greeted by his cocky smirk. “What’s gotten into you? I get a piercing and you turn into an animal.” You push him to the side and you walk to the full-length mirror in your room. Pulling down your shirt to see the damage he’s done, there is no platonic way to explain this to anyone. Your entire collar area was covered in small red marks. “Peter! My Mom comes home in three days! What am I going to tell her when she gets back?”
Peter laughs behind you still on the bed. “Sorry I got carried away. Can’t you just wear a turtle neck or something?” You gave him a stare that made him suck air through his teeth. “Okay, sorry, it was just a suggestion. But you’re a smart girl Y/N. I know you can figure this out.” He put on the mask and made a B-line for the window before you could process that he was leaving and stop him.
“No! Wait!”
“See you tomorrow Y/N.” He left.
The next day at school, you wore shorts and a sweater that barely did the job of covering the mess that Peter left. You prayed that no one would notice but unfortunately, there was always one person. And of course that one person was MJ.
“What are you hiding Y/N?” She smirked as you sat next to her in history clasd. You rolled your eyes, looking over at Peter, who just smiled and winked at you.
With a sigh, you answered, “Spider bites.”

PIII for Songs For Someone Who Doesn’t Love Me Back
hey guys!!!! im proud to be sharing the third chapter with you all! again the original fic was written by my good friend @softboy-holland! she let me continue her fic so here’s the third and possibly final chapter!
You and Peter spent nearly the entire night in your bed, talking. You felt more closer to him than ever before. And not just because you were cuddling in bed. But like, emotionally, mentally closer.
“I really am sorry about Liz…” you spoke softly.
“It’s okay, I’m over it. Come to think of it, I never really liked her that much anyways…”
You sighed, unsure of what to do. You were never exactly a girlfriend before. Was there a manual for read for this kind of thing?
“You sure about that? Seemed like you were crazy about her.”
Peter started to play with your hair. “I’m not really sure...I just feel like our entire relationship was a lie…”
You reached up stroke his cheek, your eyes met. “It’s okay to be upset about this Peter…”
You could see that he wanted to cry.
“I’m not going to get upset of this.” he said sternly.
“Okay.” you replied. “I’m just saying you can…”
“I d-don’t want to…” A tear fell down his cheek. You wrapped your arms around him as he sunk into your chest, crying. “I feel like a joke…”
“You’re not a joke, Peter.” You tangled your fingers in his messy curls.
Peter cried himself to sleep, using you as a pillow. You eventually dozed off yourself.
Luckily it was Sunday so you and Peter didn’t have to worry about school. Your homework was already done so the following morning the two of you remained in your bed, Peter still asleep in his suit, curled up next to you.
You thought about school tomorrow. What would people think? As far as they knew, Peter and Liz were still together. But you and Peter were together...You thought about what to say to Liz, because you had A LOT of words to say, most of them not very nice. She needed to know what she did was wrong and that she upset Peter.
Peter stirred himself awake, his eyes a little red.
“Hey, sleepy head.” you cooed.
He rubbed his eyes. “I fell asleep in my suit?” You laughed. “You did. You hungry? I can make breakfast and bring it up here.”
“That sounds good…” he admitted.
“I’ll be back then okay? Maybe you can take a shower while I’m gone.”
He nodded.
You kissed your boyfriend before heading off to the kitchen.
“Hey, kiddo.” your father greeted.
“Hey, dad.”
“You seen Peter?”
Oh shit. No one else knows about you and Peter. So you lied. “Uh, no I haven’t. Not since yesterday.”
“Well tell him to come by today, okay?”
“Okay, dad.”
You weren’t that hungry so you just made breakfast for Peter. You said hi to a few other Avengers on the way up to your room.
You nearly dropped food you just made as you saw Peter half naked. Your cheeks turned red when he walked up to you. He already looked better than he did last night.
“You’re the best! Y/N!” he beamed, kissing you on the cheek as he took his food.
You giggled. “No one else knows your here just FYI.”
“I figured that since I didn’t exactly use the front door.” he chuckled, sitting down to eat the breakfast you made him.”
“I swear you’ve entered more windows than actual doors.”
He laughed. “You’re probably right.”
Peter ate as you got ready.
“I’ll use the front door this time, I promise. See you soon?”
When you were finished, he stood by the window in his suit. You nodded. And kissed him on the cheek, feeling the soft material of his suit.
You watched as he swung out of the window, disappearing from sight.
That’s when it hit you. You’re boyfriend was Spider-Man. HOLY SHIT.
You literally skipped down to the kitchen again. You were the only there as you made something to eat. You assumed Peter would be late as usual. Surely someone needed Spider-Man.
Instead Peter entered the kitchen less than an a half hour later.
“Hey!” you beamed as he hugged him.
He hugged you back.
“I was wondering, if we should tell everyone about us? I ask because I don’t know if I can keep my hands off you.” you laughed.
Peter chuckled. “We’re failing already.” he said, his arms still around you waist.
You blushed.
“About damn time.” Bucky suddenly spoke.
You two jumped, separating as you noticed the super soldier watching you.
“What do you mean?”
“I think you know.”
“We don’t….” Peter admitted.
“You don’t hug a friend like that.” he chuckled.
Your cheeks turned a deeper shade of pink. “Um about that…” you trailed off.
“You two are dating now aren’t you?” Bucky asked.
“Yes?” Peter squeaked.
Suddenly, Bucky rushed up to hug you both. “I’ve been waiting for this!” he exclaimed.
“Bucky!” you shouted.
He put you down, both of you trying to breathe again. “Sorry. I’m just really excited!”
“We noticed.” Peter said.
“Excited about what?” Steve asked as he walked up to them. “Y/N and Peter are dating now!” Bucky exclaimed.
Steve nearly choked. “I’m sorry, what?”
The new couple stood there awkwardly. “Uuuuh yeah. We are.” said Peter.
Steve smiled. “Well congrats you two. You are pretty cute together.”
“That’s what I’m saying!” Bucky agreed.
“What happened to your last girlfriend though?” Loki suddenly appeared next to them.
“Loki!” you scolded.
“Uh, it’s a long story.” said Peter.
“I hate it when you do that.” you told Loki.
He just shrugged.
“You’re not an avenger, what are you doing here?” Bucky growled.
“My brother is an avenger, doesn’t that count for something?” Loki smirked.
“Adopted brother.” Steve corrected.
“I think of you two as brothers.” Loki said.
“Thanks but no thanks.”
“Anyways, about you two-hey where did they go?” Steve was surprised to see Peter and Y/N have vanished.
“I guess the idea of us being brothers scared them. It scares me too.” snickered Bucky.
“You’re mean.” whined Loki before walking away.
“That’s only because I don’t like you.”
“You’re brutal honesty concerns me sometimes.” Steve admitted.
Bucky just shrugged in response.
*
“Loki still creeps me out.” said Peter after you two snuck away from them.
“He’s not all that bad.” you admitted. “I kinda like him. “We train together a lot.”
Peter just rolled your eyes. “What about your dad? I don’t know if Tony will approve...he might kill me.”
“Maybe.”
Peter’s eyes widened.
“I’m kidding!” you joked.
“Don’t scare me like that!”
You laughed. Peter was such a dork.
“Well the sooner we tell my dad the better.”
“Tell your dad what?”
They shouted as Tony Stark appeared into the room with a mug in hand.
The shared a startled look.
“You guys need to tell me something?”
“Um kinda.” you said.
Tony narrowed his thick dark eyebrows.
Peter gulped. Suddenly he couldn’t speak. Instead he slowly laced his fingers with yours. Your cheeks flushed with a deep shade of pink.
Your father stared at your two laced hands. You weren’t sure of his reaction. He looked more shocked than angry.
“Oh...so you two are…”
“Together.” you finished. “Peter’s my boyfriend, Dad.”
Peter gulped, ready to flee in case Tony went into protective dad mode.
Tony smiled, something that truly shocked you.
“Y-you’re not mad?” you asked.
“Why would I be mad? I was hoping you two would end up together.”
“Uuuuh are you really Tony Stark? You sure you’re not an alien clone?” Peter asked.
Tony laughed. “No kid, it’s me. Seriously I’m stoked for you two. Just remember kid that Y/N is my daughter so I will kill you if you hurt her.”
“Dad! Don’t scare him!”
“It’s okay, I was expecting this. And don’t worry, Mr. Stark, I will protect Y/N with my life.”
“Thatta boy.” Tony sipped his coffee.
*
The rest of the day went pretty smoothly. Dinner was buzzing with excitement as by then all the avengers and Loki knew you and Peter were dating.
“But seriously, what about the other girl?” Loki pressed.
Peter sighed as he held your hand tightly under the table. “She dumped me.”
“Where is she? I will make her feel the wrath of the mighty Thor!”” Thor shouted.
“Calm down, brother.” Loki said.
“Thanks Thor but we don’t want to smite her.” you scolded.
“Still she should be punished for hurting my pupil.” Tony said.
“Dad.”
“I can make her disappear.” Nat suggested.
“I could shoot her with an arrow.” spoke Clint.
“Guys!” you shouted, surprising everyone. “No one is hurting anyone okay? I plan to have a little chat with her tomorrow.”
“You do?” Peter asked.
“Use that scissor lock I taught you.” said Nat.
You just groaned.
*
The following night Peter and you stood in your room by the window, arms around each other. “I don’t want you to go.” you pouted.
“I know but Aunt May will kill me if I stay the night during a school night.”
You sunk into his chest even further.
“Don’t do this Y/N. We’ll see each other at school tomorrow okay?”
You looked up at him with sad puppy dog eyes.
“Y/N I have to go.”
You gave your boyfriend a tight hug. He hugged you back. “Text me when you get home safe.” you said.
“I will.”
You reluctantly let go of Peter. He gave you a nice long kiss before putting on his mask. “Good night Y/N.”
“Good night Spider-Man.”
With that said, Peter disappeared into the night.
*
You were excited about school tomorrow, but also nervous. No one else knew about you and Peter. That is unless Liz told everyone. Anger boiled inside you at the thought of Liz again. You ready to tell her off for hurting Peter.
“You ready?” Peter asked as you stood outside of school, holding hands.
“Totally.” You gave him a quick kiss on the lips before entering the school.
The first ones to notice your hand holding were your two best friends, Ned and MJ.
“Dude why are you holding hands?” Ned asked.
“We’re dating!” you beamed.
Your friends stared at you confused.
“Lis dumped me the other day.” Peter told them.
“Seriously?” MJ asked. “That doesn’t sound like her.”
“Well she was cheating on me nearly the whole time.”
“Shit, Peter.” said Ned.
“It’s okay, Y/N and I are together now so it’s all good.”
“A little fast don’t ya think?” MJ winked at you.
You rolled her eyes. “Very funny.”
Someone caught your eye. “Hey, I gotta use the restroom, be right back.” You pecked Peter on the cheek before heading to the ladies room.
“I’ll go with you!”
God damn it. You didn’t really want back up but you couldn’t say no as MJ followed you into the bathroom.
A few moments later, Liz stepped out of the stall.
“Oh, hey guys.” she greeted nervously.
You clenched your fists, wanting to punch her lights out.
“I need to say something to you.” you told her.
“Sorry, but I need to get to class.” she said.
“No, you need to hear this.”  you said sternly.
Liz stood there awkwardly, unable to leave for you and MJ blocked the door.
“You really hurt Peter the other night, dumping him like that. You could have done better. You were with your ex for nearly two months. You had plenty of chances to end things with Peter properly but you didn’t. That was a dick move, Liz. He came to my room upset. He cried himself to sleep while I held him in my arms. He feels like that entire time with him was a lie. You realize how much that will hurt his confidence? I don’t think you do.” You paused. “Peter and I are together now and I know for a fact that I will never hurt him like you did, Liz.”
“Damn, Y/N.” MJ spoke.
Liz looked shocked more than anything. Her eyes were watery. “I have to go.” she managed, forcing herself through you and MJ.
“Is that why you came in here?”az
“Damn right.”
“You told her.” You and MJ did a hi-five.
You left the bathroom feeling more confident than ever, you arm laced with MJ’s.
“Welcome, back ladies. Have fun?” Ned teased.
“Loads of fun.” MJ answered.
You stood next to Peter, taking his hand again, squeezing it. You shared a soft smile, remembering your words to Liz.
“We better get to home room guys.” Peter spoke up.
With that, the four of you headed off to class, your fingers laced with Peter’s. You would never hurt Peter like that, never.
