Ok so Camille’s an asshole on that we can all agree, but I’m really tired of people in the fandom acting like she’s just your typical annoying ex and she makes poor uwu Alec feel insecure cause fuck that. Camille was 100% abusive and manipulative but I also think she was sexually abusive too I mean seeing what she did to Simon and kissing Magnus without his consent even though he was clearly uncomfortable, consent doesn’t really seem to be an issue for her-

I feel like she definitely manipulated his fear of loneliness and not being good enough, to suit her needs. Like Magnus isn’t in the mood for sex or it’s especially triggering on a certain day, either way he’s not up for it but Camille makes him do it anyway. She threatens to leave or go find someone else who can fulfill her needs or take care of her when Magnus won’t, ‘I mean does he even love her when he won’t do this one simple thing for her?’

So he just lets her do what she wants, even if he’s having a full blown panic attack Camille doesn’t care or she’ll just leave insulting him saying she can’t deal with this right now and leaving Magnus with no idea when or if she’ll be back. So the next time she asks he hesitates less or initiates it more even when he’s not in the mood so she won’t leave and yeah I have a lot of emotions relating to this. and now I’m thinking about how it’ll affect his future relationships, not even talking about Alec but other people - I have this headcanon where when he got away from Camille and is healing, him ragnor and Catarina live together in ragnors cottage or somewhere away from people for awhile so Magnus can slowly heal and focus on himself and unlearn Camille’s abuse with the help of his family

But despite what this fandom says Magnus has always been a helper and a selfless person to the point of self destruction. He’s unable to prioritise his own health and he wouldn’t be able to slow down and feel the full force of the abuse he experienced cause he feels like he’ll fall apart if he does and ‘no one wants a pathetic crybaby who breaks down when someone moves their hand too fast in his direction it wasn’t even that bad he’s just exaggerating like he always does this is why Camille doesn’t love him back’ (the ‘’ parts were meant to be strikethrough to signify Magnus’ inner thoughts but that doesn’t work on asks)

And he’s scared to get in another relationship cause he doesn’t think he’d be able to speak up for himself if they turned violent or controlling, he’s scared that if they did he’d just let them so he closes himself off from people puts these walls around him and a bright smile on his face that doesn’t let anyone think there’s anything wrong. And theres so much pain going on in the world ‘they have it much worse than him anyway’ and Magnus tries to help the best he can as he always does and he’s always there for people to lean on without any reciprocation and he’s so emotionally and physically tired and he’s not sure how much longer he can take it, almost considers going back to blackfairs bridge ‘really he’d be doing the world a favour’ but theres too many bad memories and he promised his family he would try so he holds on and then he finds Raphael and that obviously doesn’t fix everything but- I was going to continue this but it’s two am in my country and honesty it’s too long already😅 sorry for the rant it’s just a lot of emotions. Im so tired of the ‘Camille’s an annoying ex who keeps getting in the way of my favourite gay ship😠’ metas and needed to let out some feelings before I explode from my hate for Camille

UGH ANON HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE NOT ONLY A GENIUS BUT ALSO MY NEW BEST FRIEND, AN INTELLECTUAL, AND COMPLETELY RIGHT. YOU ARE SO CORRECT!!! idk if uve read my other post that i posted while i was waiting for you but we no longer have the same hat we are SHARING the hat!! i can't believe i got this ask right after i had just made that long ass rant and was in so much need to talk about this like ugh are you my guardian angel. i love you more than anyone else ive ever met

ok ok ok coherent thoughts ok i can do this. first of all THE SALT how does it feel to have vision and coherency. ppl writing camille as just an annoying ex or a bad ex or even as like "oh they both made mistakes and it ended up terrible" drives me UP THE WALL. camille was explicitly abusive, so much so that magnus CANONICALLY WAS UNABLE TO ALLOW PEOPLE TO GET CLOSE TO HIM FOR ALMOST A CENTURY. and she was shown to be abusive, both in the physical sense as you have reminded us so brilliantly and in the sense that her whole "choose me" speech? like she doesn't have to literally say the words "no one but me would ever love you" for that to be exactly what she's saying. she's obviously playing with his insecurities and putting him down while presenting her as his savior, it's CLASSIC ABUSE. she was written as such a perfect to-the-book abuser that it honestly shocks me like they did that really all they ticked all the boxes. the way she immediately launched to talk about alec's mortality too, the way she was obviously trying to make them fight and draw them apart - it wasn't a jealousy thing, it is just that she's abusive and she wants him isolated so she can toy with him and manipulate him

EVEN SALTIER WHEN THEY MAKE IT ABOUT ALEC BEING INSECURE LIKE. especially because canonically he literally watched camille kiss magnus and didn't care, which was sexy of him because i was dreading some jealousy drama or something but instead he was just like. obviously she did it to hurt you. i only care in the sense that she's a fucking bitch. we stan!

as for how she treated him! oof i think the same thing with the same words dioajdsaoij it always circled back to "why can't you do this for me?" in and outside of sex - i mentioned that in a conversation in the comments of my other post but i think that with camille the sexual abuse was really just an extension of the regular abuse, so they bleed together and are not really separable in that sense. at every turn, he had to prove his worth, and she used his fear of loneliness both in the sense that she amplified it and made it seem like the only way to not be lonely was to be with her, and that she gave him just enough for him not to feel desperately lonely so she could string him along. not to mention, they both always go back to how magnus supposedly "owes" her, and yes, it's because of the bridge, of course, but there's also that underlying tone of "because she put up with him and gave him affection when no one else would". even when what she did was nowhere close to real affection. so it's both the bridge and the after. she could have saved him and left, but she stayed. that's why he feels he owes her, and she will absolutely use it

AND UR SO RIGHT ABOUT MAGNUS BEING UNABLE TO PRIORITIZE HIS OWN HEALTH UGH UGH UGH UGH like he has no choice for a while because she left him fucking broken and seeing the way she treats him and the amount of shit he puts up with i can only imagine how far she had to go for him to reach a breaking point and leave her for real. but as soon as he could pretend to have himself together he just threw himself out there. and i believe that he felt guilty for having catarina and ragnor take care of him when he abandoned them because of camille - obviously that's not what happened, she manipulated him into staying away from them, made his life hell whenever he wanted to hang out with them until he no longer had the energy to put up a fight to keep in contact with the people he loves, but it's what he feels that happened, and most likely what camille herself eventually started to tell him happened once they had been pulled away enough. ("you're gonna leave me? and go back to who? your little friends who tried to pit you against me from day one? they're just gonna say 'i told you so', magnus. and why would they take you back when you left them before? when was the last time you even saw them? you chose this, you chose me, and now you're gonna come back to them and expect them to welcome you with open arms? you selfish little prick")

AND RAPHAEL!!! raphael was so important, honestly, we say that magnus didn't let anyone into his heart but obviously raphael was the exception and EXTREMELY important for his healing. it's a complicated relationship because he's sort of a father figure for rapha, and as such, he doesn't allow himself to be completely vulnerable around him, because that's not "his role". but! he was the first person whom magnus let in. and they obviously know each other deeply ("i hate to see you like this" even though magnus looked completely put together to the outside eye) and are plenty affectionate ("sweet boy", the hugs, the way rapha talked about magnus with so much love and awe in his eyes and voice) and trusting (the way raphael went to magnus' loft, not his own damn clan, when he was tortured...). i know this fandom likes to pretend that they pretend to hate each other but NO THEY DON'T they are openly caring and loving with each other fucking fight me on this

anyway, my point is that raphael was the first person he allowed himself to trust, and of course, part of that is simply because raphael was vulnerable and in need and like you said he can't just stay still when he sees someone struggling. but to care for raphael eventually had to mean to open up to him and when he welcomed raphael in, he gained a new member to his family. raphael is his kid. that's no small thing. their bond goes deep and it's extremely important because again, after camille magnus wouldn't allow people to get close to his heart, because he was scared of how they could use that against him. raphael was his first, and the only reason magnus was able to open himself up for romantic love again (which was an extra step, not because romantic love is more important or deeper, but because it's specifically the kind of love that camille used against him, and thus it makes him even more scared) was because he had already been relearning trust and platonic love with rapha

rapha did him good!!! there's a reason he calls him "sweet boy" okay. and rapha cares about him and he NOTICES WHEN HE'S IN A BAD SHAPE EVEN THROUGH ALL OF MAGNUS' WALLS and he specifically didn't want magnus involved with the camille drama even when it had obviously gotten out of hand because he wanted to keep him safe and away from her!!! i want to be shot in the face!!! they love each other so much! fuck!

and also that implies that raphael knows about camille which means he might be the first person who met magnus post-camille and heard the story, which means that he might be (and probably is) the first person who was never involved that magnus opened up about this to. if that ain't some powerful and important shit i don't know what is. because part of abuse is that you can't talk about it - there's this sense of shame and guilt both from staying and from not staying more, especially because magnus canonically still feels like he owes her... aaaaa

this answer is all over the place im sorry but my point is you are correct, camille is a textbook abuser not just a shitty ex, she fucked up his head and made him unable to open up for a long time, and the first person that helped him break those walls was raphael and they LOVE EACH OTHER VERY MUCH AND DEEPLY thank you for your attention

SO this dude was created when i realised my story didnt have antagonists so i made a bunch of Bad People and then they all became good people after i started giving them more personnality somehow eXCEPt him for some reason, the only survivor of the “everyone will be baby” plague, the only rude bitch in this house, the only guy who’s still on the dark grey side of morally grey...but tbh im in love with him cause he’s an asshole and im an idiot so like.

His base concept was basically something along the lines of “fuckboy but make it Couture”, like douchebag indeed But Gotta Be Fancy at being one, gotta add a pinch of Sneaky Bitch in the pot. His aesthetic is Chillin, gettin in ur pants, then moving on for some more chillin and more pants. So if you’re into some funky sexy time with no pressure and no ties, ya gon get along, your goals meet, time to have fun.

All that is supported by his charisma, cause unless ya got some nasty history, he’ll just look like that charming bad-boy “oho hot dude with a dangerous but not agressive” vibed person, and he’s quite a sweet-talker. He’s probs not only the ‘your daughter calls me daddy’ kind but also ‘and so will YOU, i’m scoring with the whole family and you wont stop me (and you wont WANT to stop me)’

Dude got quiiite some spite-fueled ego and Does Not Take losing well, and will not, in fact, let himself lose on any objective he has, and when that objective is A Person, he gets ugly. Being good at sweet talking also means being good at small stuff like “not saying exactly the truth always when it would be more beneficial not to”, “deliberately using euphemistic, ambiguous or obscure language so to mask wrong doings and technically saying the truth but in such a way that it becomes completely masked by a thick fog of bullshit”, and “use words and behaviour in general to influence others unscrupulously so to get something in return”. Even a little “playing with their perception in order to make them doubt in their thoughts and selves”. In short dude got no qualms about using all the tools of manipulation available if it means that he comes on top (or on bottom if the goal was getting an assful eeeeeey we’re masters of comedy here) It tends to be all for short term results tho, so not much your ‘boyfriend who convinces you you’re nothing without him” and more of a “you thought you were dating but only you were thinking that as he always kept it just vague enough to have you not official yet convinced of his and now you’re blaming yourself for believing you were together”

master of getting ass, also master of Ugly Ass Breakups, and master of suddenly dissapearing from your life so hard that you wonder if it was just your imagination all along (he got ugly past with a bunch of other ocs especially he’s ex boyfriend with two that are now together cause i dig that sort of drama the sAME dUDe gave u the trust issues that held u from going full lovey dovey ? i fucking lIVE off that kinda shit wait until he pops back like ‘oho hello fancy seeing YOU TWO here my two fave exes together incredible what a small world”)

Though I have to rework on all that cause that backstory is oLD AS SHIT (like prolly i built it in what, 2016? ew ugly) I had that stem from some sort of neglect-fueled inferiority complex. I had given him a kinda cold family with a bunch of siblings who got Way More Nurtured due to their respective talents and achievements, having him left behind and feeling like he got nothing. SO that’s basically the explanation as of today but i dont like iiiiit anymooooore so I’ll have to work on it to make it something i dig, cause idk, bitch feels flat so far.

BUT i do intend on keeping the whole concept of ~Loneliness~, and of him working alone and quite hard for anything he gets. And the general need of proving himself that had come from the WIP backstory. I don’t exactly see him as an overachiever at all, but definitly as an obstinate and persevering hardworking guy, because “Look YALL I WAS aBLE TO DO THIS YALL THOUGHT I COULDNT HUH YALL LOOK DOWN ON ME well fuck u cause idc im better than u now also ur mum’s into bondage i kno from experience bye”. So tbh pair up with him for group projects, you’ll be sure his share of the work will be done (but also if you dont do yours then he’s probably going to be a bITCh about it, no remorse in leaving blank slides in the middle of the powerpoint and then loudly proclaiming ‘OH RIGHT This was supposed to be Kevin’s part but I suppose he never sent it to me, despite the numerous reminders i sent him, no big deal, no hard feelings, its ok sweetie we all sometimes feel too lazy i forgive u :)” )

Also he’d be Chill to hang out with for like, parties, nights out at the bar, that kinda shit. He definetly has some beans to spill about quite some people, he gathers the goss as he gathers lovers (i was gonna end that in “as he spreads legs” but it sounded too PG-18 for this good Well Behaved family friendly blog) and Will Not stay tight lipped, and Will be a bitch when trashtalking people, and It Will Be Entertaining as it always is when you’re hearing about crazy exes and you’ve had some beers.

Now trivia that idk where else to write cause idk i stupid or more like disorganised :

-im constantly dead afraid of giving him more characteristics and story or whatveer cause he’s the only meanie i got left and i do Not want him to stop being an asshole but everytime i develop a character they end up nice or redeemed or whatever and i wanna keep him a bitch so i neglect him (just like his parents in his 2016 version wow)

he smokes (prolly started quite early to Be Kool and now relies on it for stress relief)

he’s outspoken and extraverted and prolly the guy who had a lot to say when you were doing debates in class (there’s always that person who has a Lot to argument about)(its him) but outside of a Set and Defined debate structure he probably doesnt give his mind voraciously

he’s a law student and despite saying he’s the one bad guy left he probably wont be a corrupt lawyer or judge or whatever like come on he will do his job properly he worked hARD FOR THIS justice may be served

he’s not the kind to openly hate or even dislike anyone cause what’s the point of wasting your energy on that? its much funnier to him to be obnoxiously Neutral with someone and basically ignore them but still strike them with some Spikes of passive-agressive comments, let them be Mad at your calmness

he’s 177cm tall (that’s like 5.8 according to google)

honestly if you’re bros with him he’s fun to be with the being a jerk is completly coincidental

i have never considered this ship. giving it a go still!! thanks for the ask

1) Who rocks the Ferris Wheel seat and who flips out and begs them to stop? Neither of them. Skarlet doesn’t wanna fall out and hurt herself, and Cetrion doesn’t think that rocking it is much fun.

2) Who is always horny and will have sex at any time, at any place and at any time? They both have average sex drives and aren’t likely to just… have sex at some random time. Cetrion will occasionally suggest a new place for them to enjoy that time together.

3) Who is more into taking showers/baths together? Who tries to make it relaxing and who tries to make it sexy time? Cetrion loves baths. She likes putting flower petals in the water and putting on some music and taking it easy. Skarlet is fond of joining her. Neither of them tries to make it sexy too often.

4) Who likes to walk around the house naked and who tells the other to go put some clothes on? Cetrion probably doesn’t wear clothes when she’s alone, so it’s nothing for her to just walk through with nothing on. It’s initially surprising to Skarlet, but she’s used to it.

5) Who sleeps on the couch when they get into a fight? Neither of them. They rarely fight anyways, and when they do, they insist on talking it out in person.

6) Who takes photos of the other while they sleep? Both of them. Cetrion has never had a girlfriend before, and she takes every chance she gets to take a photo of her and admire her. Skarlet’s sleeping portrait is her phone’s lockscreen. Skarlet takes photos because sometimes she can’t believe that someone as beautiful and kind as Cetrion wants to date her.

7) Who said “I love you” first? and who ends their arguments in a fight with “Because I love you”? Cetrion said it first. She was talking about relationships in general and said “I always wondered why people spoke so highly of being in love, but then I met you and found out… and I have loved every second” which led to Skarlet blushing like crazy. Cetrion is also the one to include her love for Skarlet in an argument.

8) Who likes to wear the others sweatshirts? They share! They don’t own many between them, so they’re beyond willing to share.

9) Who wakes the other up in the middle of the night to tell them a cool dream they had? Who has the most nightmares, and who sings them back to sleep after? Cetrion has a lot of fascinating dreams and prefers to write them down and tell Skarlet when she’s awake. She very rarely has nightmares, but Skarlet has them more frequently. Cetrion is always willing to sing to her to help her calm down and fall back asleep.

10) Who is more likely to cheat at games (cards, board games, etc.)? Cetrion. It’s not on purpose; she doesn’t know the rules to a lot of games and sorta makes up her own as she goes along. Skarlet is fully aware of this but lets her continue doing it because she gets so excited when she wins.

11) Who makes fun of the other for having a crush on them, and who has to remind them that they are in a relationship? I don’t think either of them is teasing in nature, but Cetrion does bring up Skarlet’s crush on her from the past as a topic of conversation. Skarlet is quick to say that Cetrion is the one that initiated the relationship.

12) Who starts a food fight in the kitchen? Neither of them. They love cooking together and take the time to teach one another new things, so it never escalates to a food fight. They do make messes though, and the messier they get, the more they laugh.

13) Who initiates duets? and who is the better singer? Cetrion definitely initiates duets because she loves music and loves singing along with it. In addition, she tries to get Skarlet to act more outgoing by encouraging duets. Cetrion also has an amazing voice, so Skarlet is always willing to listen to her sing.

14) Who starts the hand holding? Who grabs the others butt? Who slides their arm around their waist? Who likes to put their fingers in the belt loops? They both love holding hands, so they equally initiate it. Cetrion is more likely to touch Skarlet’s but if they’re lying in bed together, rubbing it rather than grabbing it. They both love wrapping their arms around one another’s waists. Cetrion tugs on Skarlet’s belt loops if they’re kissing.

15) Who likes writes the others name on their wrist? Cetrion. She hears a lot about different types of romantic actions, and she thinks that writing on the wrist is a sweet gesture. She likes to draw on her skin surrounding the name, plus little doodles.

16) Who is more seductive when they are drunk? and who is louder in bed? Cetrion tries to be seductive, but she’s mostly just incoherent. It always makes Skarlet giggle. They’re around the same volume and aren’t too loud.

17) Who is more protective? Cetrion. This relationship is her first, and she’s very deeply fond of Skarlet and wants to keep her safe at all costs.

18) Who talks to the other while they are sleeping? Both of them. Skarlet talks about how Cetrion is so kind to her and how she loves her very much. She also confesses her deep fears to her when she knows that she can’t hear. Cetrion talks fondly of Skarlet’s beauty and her strength to overcome all that has hurt her.

19) Who drives and who has the window seat? Skarlet doesn’t like driving very much, but she will if she must. Cetrion is a fucking awful driver. She gets distracted really easily by anything that they drive by.

20) Who falls asleep in the others lap and who carries them to bed? Skarlet falls asleep on Cetrion all the time. Cetrion will be telling a story or just talking about her day, and if she’s tired, Skarlet can’t help but doze off. Cetrion always smiles and carries her to their bed so she will be more comfortable.

21) Who cuts the others hair? Cetrion loves cutting Skarlet’s hair. She finds her hair very soft and is always willing to help her make it look good.

22) Who is super bad at sexting? and who sends them encouraging messages throughout the day? Cetrion doesn’t really understand what sexting is, but she tries. She also likes to send encouraging messages to Skarlet to show that she’s there for her at all times.

23) Who thinks they are not good enough for the others love? and who’s more afraid of loosing the other? Who thinks they keep messing up, only for the other to tell them they don’t need to worry? Skarlet often wonders why Cetrion would choose her when lots of people would do anything to be with Cetrion. Cetrion worries heavily that Skarlet will be put in danger, even if things seem calm. Both of them worry of messing up, so they always assure one another that they’re both very good girlfriends!!!

24) Who starts random slow dancing with the other in the kitchen? Who holds the other just above the ground and kisses them? They both like to slow dance. They can be close to one another and just relax for a while. Cetrion holds Skarlet up so she can kiss her forehead.

25) Who says shitty puns and sex jokes just to see the other giggle and blush? Cetrion tells any pun she hears, whether it’s good or not. Skarlet either groans or laughs like mad.

26) Who kissed first? Actually, it was Skarlet. Cetrion had made an idle comment about having never kissed anyone, not evening intending to get a kiss, and Skarlet offered to show her. They were both shocked at her sudden courage, but they kissed anyways and it was magical.

27) Who orders take out at two in a morning? and who wakes the other up at three in the morning to go downstairs with them to get a glass of water because it’s too dark? Neither of them order take out, but Cetrion tends to wander if she can’t sleep, frequently to the kitchen to cook. They don’t wake the other on purpose, but Cetrion offers to walk with Skarlet if she wakes.

28) Who writes poems/stories and love songs about the other? Do they sing the songs the write for them? Skarlet writes sometimes, but they’re all… bad, and she’s embarrassed by them and doesn’t share. Cetrion loves to sing for Skarlet! But she doesn’t write anything original to sing.

29) Who does some crazy stunt to try and impress the other and who ends up driving them to the emergency room after it backfires? They’re both aware when something is deemed dangerous. They’re both right there if the other is hurt.

30) Who is embarrassed when they have to wear their glasses and who thinks they look super cute? Neither of them wear glasses. Skarlet finds it cute when Cetrion begins collecting sunglasses that she finds in stores in Earthrealm because “they’re all so unique and interesting!!”
