"why not join me instead?" akechi's "invitation" in conf 7
People come and go on whether this question of Akechi's is genuine or not. Opinions run the gamut from "I hate him for trying to take you away from your friends" to "Akechi wants Joker to be his accomplice".
Myself, I don't think Akechi means this as a serious question, for a number of reasons. I think this question is rhetorical.
Quick summary:
Conf 7 illustrates the similarity between Joker and Akechi, and that they're both committed to the showdown between them;
Rather than being an invitation, Akechi's question again illustrates that parallel—that neither of them will give up the things that matter to them to join the other, as Joker has asked him to do;
"I'll think about it" does not count towards the third awakening—and I can prove it. Rather, Akechi can't conceive that Joker would ever abandon his friends, and uses it as an outrageous example of something Joker would never do;
Joker's loyalty not only to his principles but to his friends is something Akechi values so much that he won't let Joker sacrifice it;
Akechi is not so much offering Joker a way out in conf 7 (there is no way out) as he's confirming for his own sake that Joker is still in the game. Is this still a battle between rivals, or is it an execution?
Let's take a look.
what is akechi really asking?
[long post is long]
Look at this line. Look at the question he's posing:
Tumblr media
Akechi いっそ君がこっちに来るってのは?⋯今の仲間を捨ててさ。 isso kimi ga kocchi ni kuru tte no wa?... ima no nakama o sutete sa Why not join me instead...? All you'd have to do is abandon the teammates you have now.
It's very easy to focus on the first half of this question and miss the second. But that second half is the important part, the sting in the tail. The Japanese is a great example of wa building suspense: "Instead, what if you come over to my side, (AND THEN WHAT, AKECHI???????)"
The sentence is left hanging, with the weight of it unspoken (since wa emphasises what comes after it); Akechi is obviously not done speaking. And indeed, when he continues, it's a doozy:
"though, of course, you'd have to dump the friends you have now." (Yes, I think "friends" is often a much better translation of nakama than "teammates", fight me; it's even often translated as "friend" in P5 itself, or indeed, awkwardly, as "teammates and friends".)
Akechi is using the same verb, suteru, that you use for tossing something in the trash; the parallel meaning, "ending a relationship", exists in Japanese too.
Ryuji, Morgana, Ann, Yusuke, Makoto, Futaba, Haru, everything you've all gone through together and everything you've been—Akechi is suggesting you toss them aside like garbage. For him.
Now, I think part of Akechi would very much like Joker to do that. But he also knows better than to expect it. Because he knows Joker so much better than that.
Akechi has seen firsthand how loyal Joker is to his friends—remember on 1/2 how he says he investigated them all? He's seen some of the things Joker will do for them. He expects that blind faith to lead Joker to his death, much as Yaldabaoth does. But he also respects it.
This boy who's never had a friend, who's convinced himself the whole idea is stupid, is still drawn to the loyalty he sees in Joker. Even as he's preparing his own ultimate betrayal, Akechi recognises Joker's commitment to others. He understands treachery is bad, even though he himself is a traitor—just as he understands that murder is bad, and that doesn't stop him, either.
This question of whether or not Joker will betray his friends (and Akechi specifically) comes back on 2/2, of course—and in force.
so why does he ask
Akechi is not proposing that the two of them run off together. He's not asking to see what Joker will say. He doesn't impulsively make the invitation, and then run away when Joker says yes. He is, in fact, not even asking. He poses the idea of Joker abandoning all his friends as a counterexample. It's supposed to be something Joker would never consider, something he will find morally repugnant.
Which is why, if Joker says yes, Akechi is shocked, and essentially tells Joker not to make such stupid spur-of-the-moment decisions. Akechi is making a rhetorical point about what Joker is asking of him.
Remember Joker's statement that leads into Akechi's question:
Tumblr media
Yeah. Joker either suggests that Akechi should give up everything he's doing and everything he believes in (even as Akechi confabulates about what those things really are), or he suggests, with the top option, that he's already done it.
And in return, Akechi says that Joker should join him... and throw away his friends and everything he's working for and everything he believes in, of course.
It's the second response to his question, where Joker turns him down flat, that makes it most obvious that this was what Akechi meant:
Joker それは無理だ sore wa muri da I'm not doing that. No way in hell. Akechi だろうね。 darou ne I thought as much. Akechi 分かるだろ、誰だって今の立場を簡単に捨てられやしないんだよ wakaru daro, dare datte ima no tachiba o kantan ni suterare yashinai n da yo I'm sure you understand. We all have our parts to play, and we can't simply leave those behind.
See what he's saying? ima no tachiba o kantan ni suterare yashinai—"we absolutely must not lightly set aside the positions we hold now".
Incidentally, yes, that's that same verb suteru that he used before, for casting aside or throwing away. Akechi is drawing a parallel between Joker's friends and his own goals—between the things each of them holds most dear, which neither of them will sacrifice, even to save the other. (Assuming you think Akechi would even be down to save Joker—but I do think conf 7 suggests that at this point, he might not be opposed to the possibility. It's just that it doesn't exist.)
the phone call
This parallel returns in the phone call afterwards, if you again tell him that you're rivals:
Tumblr media
It's a little hard to tell from the localisation what Akechi is getting at, so let's take a close look:
Akechi 僕らにはお互い譲れないものがあって、そのためにも負けられない。 bokura ni wa otagai yuzurenai mono ga atte, sono tame ni mo makerarenai [lit. for both of us, these are things we cannot compromise on, and because of those things we cannot suffer losing.] Neither of us can afford to lose, because we fight in service of our principles. It's the same for both of us. Neither of us can afford to lose, because of these principles we won't concede. Akechi ⋯だからこそ、もしも君が自分を曲げたりしたら絶対に赦さないよ。 ... dakara koso, moshi mo kimi ga jibun o megetari shitara zettai ni yurusanai yo [lit. that's exactly why, if you were to warp yourself [that way], I would absolutely never let such a sin (t/n: note the kanji) pass.] And that is precisely why... I cannot allow you to change. ... And that's precisely why, if you betrayed yourself that way... I couldn't allow it. Akechi だって、僕が負けたくないのは『君』なんだから。 datte, boku ga maketakunai no wa "kimi" nan da kara [lit. it's you as you are now who I do not want to lose to.] As you are now, as you think now... I cannot allow you to win over me. The person you are now, with those principles, and that determination—that's the one I won't ever allow to beat me.
Here's my attempt at a translation again, so you can see it all together:
Akechi: It's the same for both of us. Neither of us can afford to lose, because of these things we won't concede. Akechi: ...And that's precisely why, if you betrayed yourself that way... I couldn't allow it. Akechi: The person you are now, with those principles, and that determination—that's the one I won't ever allow to beat me.
It turns out that this phone conversation, that was originally quite mystical-sounding and hard to follow (what were you trying to say, Akechi?) is quite straightforward. It ties into to his original question. "Will I join you, Joker? Well, what if you join me instead? Just throw away all your little friends for my sake? Of course you won't—because we're the same. Both of us have things we can't give up, no matter what—and if you tried to do that, I wouldn't let you, because I value you as you are...."
This parallel between the two of them is what conf 7 is about, from the text message that opens it to the phone call that concludes it:
Tumblr media
It's the same thing again: neither of you can afford to lose, because you're fighting for your principles. The billiard table is the stage for this wider discussion.
The billiard scene, of course, is interesting for another reason—Akechi is giving Joker a chance to back out; he's testing his commitment, and perhaps hinting that he never intended to be quite where he is, either. He states at the outset that he's being indirect, that what he's saying is a metaphor—and then closes that metaphor with a very direct question: "Do you still intend to play this game?"
Akechi それでも君は、このゲームを降りる気はないの? sore demo kimi wa, kono geemu o oriru ki wa nai no? Even then... do you still intend to play this game? But despite all of that, you still won't fold, will you?
The Japanese is even more specific: Akechi asks Joker if he intends to fold—not whether he still wants to play, but whether he means to give up entirely! "This can't be what you expected, so how about it? Will you just give up? Does this mean as much to you as it does to me? Is this a game we both choose to play, or are you just a victim?"
How much of this is Akechi blowing smoke up his own ass?—casting the fact that he's about to murder the boy in front of him in a glowing, romantic light? Pretty much all of it, I'd say. He's dreamed of having a rival, someone to compete with who challenges him, but what he's got is quite a bit more than that.
Again, the rival imagery is what allows Akechi not only to accept this close relationship, but to frame it as a life-or-death contest that only one of them can win. It confirms to him that what Lavenza describes as "a truly unfair game" is actually fair. It's about making Joker's murder seem as much Joker's fault as his own.
but what happens if you say yes?
Despite all of this, you can choose to have Joker consider Akechi's "offer"—to discard Ryuji, Morgana, Ann, Yusuke, Makoto, Futaba and Haru like trash, and assist Akechi instead. It's tempting, I know.
I don't personally get the impression that Akechi likes this response, for a number of reasons. None of the three responses to his offer score confidant points, but there's something else in play: only one of these responses unlocks his third awakening.
Tumblr media
See the F code highlighted in yellow? Only one of these three responses has it. "You're my rival" counts towards the third awakening. Rejecting him, with "I'm not doing that", does not—but more to the point, offering to be with him, with "I'll think about it", also does not!
The issue is confused because a number of us have taken option 1 (or indeed option 2, like me) and still got the third awakening on 2/2. It seems like you need some of the flagged responses, not all of them. But it remains the case that "I'll think about it" does not make Akechi more likely to have his third awakening.
What happens if you take this option?
Joker 考えておく kangaete oku I'll think about it. Akechi へえ、考えてはくれるんだ? hee, kangaete wa kureru n da? Oh? So you'll think about it, at least? What? You mean you'll consider it? Akechi ⋯でも、そういうその場限りの情はやめた方がいい。 ...demo, sou iu sono ba kagiri no jou wa yameta hou ga ii ...But I'd advise you don't say these things without their due consideration. ... Still, it would be better if you didn't trust such fleeting sentiments. Akechi 出来もしない約束はするものじゃないよ。 deki mo shinai yakusoku wa suru mono ja nai yo You shouldn't make promises that you can't keep, anyway. Don't be the sort who promises the earth and walks away.
A few grammar points:
んだ n da on a question demands an explanation; Akechi's question could almost be rendered "Why on earth would you need/want to think about it?"
そういうその場限りの情 sou iu sono ba kagiri no jou—"sentiments that only matter here and now". Essentially, "sentiments that won't last"—or that are makeshift or ad hoc; Joker is making a stupid spur-of-the-moment decision.
yes, 出来もしない約束 deki mo shinai yakusoku translates idiomatically as "promising the earth". The point is not that Joker should not promise; the point is that he shouldn't be the sort of person who promises so much—and then doesn't follow through.
Again, this confidant is all about Akechi's expectations for Joker. It's about the weird belief he has in him, like the belief he has in Shido—that Joker has principles and friends and will stand by them, that those things are important and matter, even if they're diametrically opposed to Akechi's principles and the things he wants.
The fact that they foil each other in this way is a large part of what makes Joker such a worthy opponent for Akechi. So if Joker turns around and says, sure, Akechi, I'll dump all my friends so we can make out?
Akechi does not like that. He thinks better of him!—he loses respect if Joker offers this. Even if that little line about "promising the earth" suggests that, actually, yeah, he would quite like for the two of them to run away together—if only they lived in a world where it was possible.
what about "you're my rival"?
I've discussed this line before, but let's go into it for completeness.
Joker 明智は好敵手だ akechi wa koutekishu da You're my rival. Nah, you're my worthy opponent.
Do you see that Joker names Akechi there? He doesn't just say, "we're worthy opponents", or even "you're my worthy opponent", koutekishu da yo.
No, he picks Akechi out by name, and then tells him exactly what they are to each other. Because wa builds suspense. Akechi wa... (what?! what is he?!) koutekishu da. "I can't run away with you, because I need you to be this to me instead".
And this is the line with the F-code. This is the line that, if you choose it, will build towards Akechi's third awakening—which is centred on his trust in Joker, on the fact that Joker is worthy of that trust.
And how does Akechi respond?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He's astonished. He did not expect this at all, look:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the left, the top screenshot where he's waiting for your answer; in the centre, the moment of shock, where he's pulled away and dropped his hand and his eyes are wide; on the right, a comparative overlay just to demonstrate that he pulled back.
smiles that aren't smiles
I have a half-assed theory that you can tell when Akechi is really smiling—because the model will smile with him. If you watch, for instance, Ryuji, the model's expressions match the sprite's almost exactly. But if you watch Akechi? Nah, not so much.
Here's an example. Akechi appears to smile quite often through conf 7—but if you glance away from the sprite and textbox to the model, the model is pokerfaced. Five smile sprites on the optimal route through conf 7, and not one of them—not even "you truly are fascinating"—matches the model:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But when you pick "You're my rival"? Suddenly the model's face springs to life:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's obvious from everything else that this moment is of deep significance to Akechi. But this little detail with the smiles suggests we can confirm it.
and what does he say?
It doesn't take long for him to pull himself together:
Akechi 同意だね、僕らにはなれ合いより対等な関係こそふさわしい。 doui da ne, bokura ni wa nareai yori taitouna kankei koso fusawashii I agree. I think a relationship of equals suits us better than being co-conspirators, anyway...
This is another one that I find unclear in the localisation, so let's have at it.
nareai suggests an illicit or unduly-close union. It suggests "being in bed together" in the business sense—cosying up, colluding, conspiring. It suggests they're working together when they shouldn't be. Jisho uses the screamingly-outdated term "common-law marriage" (what we call "living together") as an example. Essentially, it suggests they're too close—or even co-dependent, in a way that corrupts them both.
In short? Akechi's "co-conspirators", nareai, means "accomplices"—what we might call "murder boyfriends".
taitouna kankei—literally, "an equal relationship"—is a set phrase, and we know what it means. It suggests a relationship where nobody is being cheated; where everyone gets out what they put in. Where the two of them compete on equal terms.
That's a very Akechi way to look at relationships. But it's also a relationship where nobody is in charge; nobody is dominant, and everyone has self-respect. Nobody is chasing after anyone or sacrificing unduly, as either would be if they joined the other. Everyone can be who they are and say what they want. Everyone can say no.
It's the sort of relationship Akechi very notably does not have with Shido. Is it the sort of relationship he has with Joker, when the two of them are hiding so much from each other and lying so much, and there's so much, like, murder going on? Nah. But as an aspiration, as a suggestion of the sort of relationship Akechi would like them to have, alongside everything else he's told us about how he sees the two of them—as similar, as equals and opposites, as bound by their principles, as destined to fight—it's almost touching.
and what does joker think?
Akechi ⋯たとえこの先、何があろうともだ。 ...tatoe kono saki, nani ga arou tomo da ...No matter what else may change. ...No matter what might come next. Akechi それだけの事を言ったんだから、逃げないでよ? sore dake no koto o itta n da kara, nigenaide yo? In any case, what you just said carries great weight. Remember what you decided, and don't run from it. All right? [lit. don't run away just because of what [I/you] said, all right?]
I'm not sure about this. It feels like it should be referring back to Akechi's last line—"don't get cold feet and run away just because I alluded ominously to whatever's coming next, okay?". I guess it could be referring to Joker's commitment, with "You're my rival"? IDK, I'm out on this one, so I'm inclined to give the localisation the benefit of the doubt.
But it doesn't matter. Because the significance of what Joker does next doesn't change:
Tumblr media
He nods. Akechi spends the whole confidant hinting that something ominous is coming, and that the two of them are heading to an inevitable confrontation, and Joker nods.
I don't think this is really consistent with interpretations where Joker is a meek little sheep in the interrogation room. Joker might not have chosen this, he might not have wanted it, he might have by far preferred to avoid it. He'd happily back out if Akechi would just drop the whole thing and agree to act sane. But he's committed to it. He agrees to fight.
Remember, conf 7 takes place after Joker hears the murder phone call. He knows what Akechi is. He knows what he's planning. He knows the stakes—and he agrees to play, to face Akechi down.
Tumblr media
To quote @nardaviel, that's no sheep. That's a full-on "Phantom Thieves win again, motherfucker" smirk. Joker played Akechi's game, with everything he had—and he played to win.
#persona 5#p5 meta#japanese language#shuake#goro akechi#ren amamiya#almost the worst part of this is that akechi respecting joker for his loyalty tells you how little he respects himself#also! 'i'll think about it' CANNOT POSSIBLY unlock the third awakening#because the third awakening is *all about trust* and saying yes to akechi proves that you're a traitor#and that 'i won't forgive you if you betray your principles' on the phone? also 2/2. this is exactly what he does if you take the deal#also!! joker makes a third option to akechi's question with 'you're my rival' and this is what astonishes him besides the thing itself#also! (per leonawriter) the maruki deal ending is essentially the nareai relationship#where akira has all the power and akechi..? well#nobody is themself or choosing for themself#also as regards whether akechi is lying he proves himself through action#'i won't let you betray yourself' - he did that already if you tried to take the deal#ALSO? that 'megeru' for 'i won't let you depart from your principles comes back on 2/2#as joker's 'i won't fold'#and ofc it's ALSO akechi's 'you'd fold over...' that precedes that. it was set up in conf 7 if you took the rival route#so tldr it's plausible that 2/2 is as much akechi fighting for his vision of joker as for his right to die. help???#ALSO. did you wonder why it's *awakening* akechi who comes to leblanc? the one closer to you who believes in you more?#this is exactly why. awakening akechi has faith left in you to lose. non-awakening akechi already lost that faith. Hello everyone!! Today I grow a year older :3 (and I hate it lmao) FEEL FREE TO REPLY BIRTHDAY WISHES IF YOU WANT :3
So, over the time I've come back here, I've become pretty confident and proud of my once hidden passion about sick characters, sickfics and sick comfort/whump... 🌡️
And you all have been so supportive and sweet despite my weirdness so I thank you for that. You helped me feel more confident in my otherwise weird fixation <3 So, for my birthday I thought I'd try and make up a little drawing challenge for anyone who wants to give it a try... There are soo many talented artists on this site (and in this fandom)
So... It's your turn to target your faves now. You will see how fun it is and hopefully understand why I love doing it so much. 😈🌡️
(plus it's my birthday and I require some sustenance LMAO JKJK)
But yeah anyone can join in. This is just for fun though! You don't have to if you don't want to! I think its okay to ask for some food on my birthday though...right?? X'D So if you wanna do sth for my birthday...then... 👉👈 💦
CHALLENGE BELOW~
Tumblr media
DRAW YOUR FAVE ON A SICK DAY CHALLENGE🌡️😷🥵🤧
~~~~
(Mmmmkay, I am lying to myself when I say this isn't mostly aimed at the RainCode community... X'D Can't help myself. But anyone can join regardless of the fandom!!)
So here's the challenge and the rules!! (featuring my two main lil targets ofc :3)
Regardless of who it is, put your fave through some sickness hell >:3c I'd love to see it! Make em' as miserable as you want!
destroy them 😈 jkjk XD
If you're in the RainCode community you can target anyone, but as you know, my main targets are Yuma and Makoto. If they're also your faves and who you decide to use, that will make me extra happy!
Some tips for anyone new to drawing a sick day scenario art. A few things that make it look convincing are the following:
Pajamas or Loungewear
Messy Bed Hair
Fever flushed face w sweat or at least a red nose
Tired Eye bags
Shivery body
Ice Pack or a Compress on the head
Thermometer sticking from their mouth
LOTS OF BLANKETS
Tissues or medicine surrounding them
Tea or Soup (or both)
Those are just to name some from the top of my head. If you'd like some pointers on how to make a character look ill, check out my Fever Coloring Guide. This is for digital artists but traditional artists can try it too!
You can add injury or angst to the scene but I'd like illness to be the main focus of it.
The scene can be anything you want to, it can be fluffy and wholesome (with a caretaker) it can be angsty, or it can be silly. Its all up to you! Do it for the sake of fluff! Caretaking scenes are the best for any kind of relationship >w<
Either way, have fun with it!! I look forward to see what people make if they decide to give it a try! It doesn't even have to be a full on picture! Doodles and sketches are fine too! Just show me something >w<
(feel free to tag me and say happy b-day and mention my challenge, I am proud to be known for this and would love for many to participate :3) I wanna see you take a go at it :3 Show me your style! :D
~
Tumblr media
~~~
(wow look at me misspelling the word writing on text when I did it fine with my own hands lol)
Now, I know not everyone can draw...
Well never fear! I accept writing as well! ✍️✍️✍️
(hi vivia lol sorry for giving you a cold, at least you have an excuse to read and do nothing now haha x3)
Sickfics are one of the biggest things I live for! Any little drabbles or full fics with more than one chapter are welcome! Again target who you want any fandom you want, but I'll def be super happy if you make a RainCode fic. And even happier if you target my faves as well, but again, anything will do! Just make a cute story about your fave being miserable and being tended to! Trust me, it's super fun!
You can add injury or angst to the scene but I'd like illness to be the main focus of it.
Feel free to post your writing here and tag me or mention my AO3!
If you need a start to your fic, look on my blog for illness prompts! Maybe it can help give you a good start or give some inspiration! (thats why I share 'em :3)
I look forward to anything you try to write!
~
Tumblr media
That's about all!! I hope you decide to participate! ✨
Good luck, have fun, and godspeed you future whumpers! 😈
(nah jk XD)
AGAIN THIS IS FOR FUN! NO PRRSSURE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO!

You guys want complex characters but you couldn't even understand Kyoko Kirigiri - Kyoko defending post.
So today I'm gonna talk about Kyoko framing Makoto because you guys only foucs on Makoto in here which drives me insane.
Yes, it was unfair that Makoto got framed. But don't forget that Kyoko was getting framed too, it's not like Kyoko framed Makoto for a murder she committed. The dead body belonged to Mukuro who died chapters ago.
Of course, Kyoko could have pulled out an inspirational speech and sacrifice herself for Naegi but there was no place for that bullshit.
Haven't you seen the bad ending? If Kyoko dies, they never get out of the killing game, the tradegy goes on forever and they don't even know.
And Kyoko knows that. Kyoko knows she's the only person who can end the killing game with all the information and evidence she got. As much as, some of these were in her room, that still wouldn't be enough for others. Plus they would probably have no reason to go there after she dies, I also wouldn't be surprised if Junko got rid of the evidence in Kyoko's room after she died.
The whole reason why the trail was in the first place was because Junko wanted to stop Kyoko from destroying her killing game. Kyoko knows that.
Now, Kyoko finds herself in a situation where she's about to get executed and the "if you vote the wrong person then you all die" rule is not going to help her anymore since the whole thing is rigged and she's being framed by the mastermind. She knows that if she dies the killing game will never and go on forever AND SHE'S RIGHT. She's nervous, she's scared, she's in a point of no escape.
She has to choices:
1. Die and lnever defeat the mastermind and have everyone locked in there forever, mastermind wins, all the deaths meant nothing.
2. Frame someone else, live and defeat the mastermind and then avenge the deaths of everyone including the person who got framed.
There's no place for sacrifice bullshit here.
Kyoko choses to save herself, not because she's selfish or arrogant but because she believes in her abilities and the knowledge she has.
Makoto ends up being the person who gets executed instead and that's s pretty much a random thing because it really could have been anyone. Yes, she feels guilty and yes, she knows it's unfair. But it was the only thing to do so she can end the killing game.
Makoto survives and she goes to look for him and saves him and she does it pretty quickly. She goes there, brings him food and water, then helps him get back to the building. If she didn't care about him, she wouldn't think about what happened to him.
The fact that she was the only one to do so, maybe because she detailed map of the school that she got from some secret room, however the fact that she threw herself down the trash to save Makoto shows that she cares. But I think it's safe to say that if she didn't go down there, there's a huge chance that no one would.
In conclusion, chapter 5 is not all about Makoto. I hate when people make it all about him and how it was unfair for him and JUST for him. Because if you think about it, it wasn't fair for anyone and Kyoko had no choice, just like everyone else. They couldn't just not vote, they had to vote for someone.
Kyoko is an interesting character because like I mentioned before, what you'd except from a Danganronpa female support character would be inspirational sacrifice to let the protagonist solve everything by themselves and "I believe in you" and blah blah.
That scenario just doesn't work here because Makoto alone doesn't have enough information and knowledge to defeat the mastermind by himself.
Another thing is that Kyoko apologies and explains everything as soon as she sees Makoto.
Makoto forgives her not because he is a loser people pleaser although he is but not here but because he knows Kyoko and trusts her and he knows that she has those information that could help save the killing game, he knows that without her they wouldn't defeat the mastermind.
Kyoko Kirigiri is a character with her own morals, brain, way of thinking and mind. She is a deep powerful character who was one of the main reasons Junko was defeated. Yet, she gets very little credit. This would bring us to talking about the anime but that's a topic for another day and another rant.

Okay, so as a continuation of my Hinaegi posts, in the scenario where Hajime and Makoto date at Hope's Peak and then Hajime becomes Kamukura...
I feel like a Kamukura who falls in love with Makoto separately from Hajime, who doesn't remember being Hajime or knowing Makoto as Hajime or being known by Makoto as Hajime, would very much feel like he's just a different guy who is using Makoto's love for Hajime to keep him close.
Like, whether you agree that Izuru is inherently a different human being from Hajime or consider him just Hajime who has undergone drastic alterations, he would pretty much definitely see it as, "How convenient that the guy I like/want happens to have preexisting romantic feelings for the person this body used to belong to." He doesn't correct Makoto when he calls him Hajime, he refers to their relationship as if it started when he was Hajime, and from his perspective, he is lying about these things. From his perspective, Makoto's ex-boyfriend is dead and he is moving into a vacancy that happens to be the right shape, exploiting a vulnerability in someone who deeply interests him.
And eventually, once the highly pragmatic mindset he acquired in the Kamukura Project starts to wear thin just from socializing more, he starts to feel bad about it. He feels guilty that Makoto thinks he's still dating Hajime. Oh, Makoto already knows that he doesn't have memories from before; there's no way for them to have talked for any length of time at the beginning and not established that. But Makoto still considers him Hajime; just Hajime with amnesia, fresh trauma, and a wild amount of sudden skillsets (the details of which have not been explained to him). He has to build up his courage (and, like, moral inclination) to explain to Makoto that the Kamukura Project wasn't just a thing that took away his memories; he is a different human. He is not Hajime. Hajime is dead, and now Izuru is here in his place. In his body.
He expects Makoto to break over this, or fight back, but Makoto just thinks for a few seconds and gently asks, "Would you prefer it if I call you Izuru now?"
Kamukura is all, You don't understand, it's not just a name change, I am Different.
Makoto says, "I understand that you're different. Hajime...didn't like the rain. And Hajime hated to sleep in his uniform. Hajime had a way lower tolerance for spicy foods, and he took his showers in the morning instead of at night. He got shy more easily, and he hugged differently, and it took him more tries to get things right. Maybe you can't be Hajime anymore. But you're still the person I care about."
Izuru frowns, unsure if he should take this response or keep pushing back.
"I know you don't remember, but...you stand like Hajime. I mean, the way you angle your feet when you're standing still is like him."
Izuru looked down at his feet. In ballet, it would be partway between third and fourth position.
"The TV channel you use for background noise...it was Hajime's favorite."
It wasn't like he enjoyed the shows. They were just...more enriching than silence. And he defaulted to the same channel out of routine.
"And the way you've looked for the past few days, like you needed to say something but you were scared to...It's the same way Hajime looked before he told me I could be dating an Ultimate instead."
Izuru doesn't know what to say.
"I'm not telling you who you are. You are whoever you believe you are. But...I don't believe Hajime is dead." Makoto strokes Izuru's hair, drawing him to rest his head on his shoulder. Izuru curls his arms around him, inhaling deeply. "All that talent, and you're still trying to convince me I shouldn't care about you?"
Hajime cries.

I'm still on my rest days so I can't draw for a bit (I try to have a couple of days where I don't focus on drawing and just vibe so I avoid being burnt out)
So have more horse ideas that me and my friend talked about 🐴(it was mostly me rambling and my friend going "uhuh...")
It's REALLY long so beware.
First Movie
MC: Anzu
Horse: ??? Idk give me ideas(doesn't really have to follow the tier list)
Friend: Hokuto, Makoto?
Rival: Kaoru
Rival Horse: Koga
Teacher: Rei
Category: Horse Racing
Very basic plot of girl moves into the country plot and then finds passion for horse racing. She wins the end !
Kaoru basically is misogynistic rival who tries to rizz her up(fail sfx) and says horse racing is a "mans race" (it is not Lol) and gets humbled at the end. (He learns his lessons and starts respecting Anzu as an individual)
Koga is a menace horse and always foils Kaoru. (This movie is more Kaoru embarasses himself and if he doesn't, his horse does it for him)
Spinoff 1
MC: Tetora
Horse: Chiaki
Friend: Midori
Teacher: Kuro
Rival: Midori also LMAO
There's no rival horse for this one. Basically Tetora moves to the countryside(wow shocker) and wants to get into horse racing like Kuro. Kuro then let's him try out with Chiaki horse but Chiaki is too hard headed and distracted to try to race properly. Tetora is extremely frustrated by this and asks Kuro to get him another horse but Kuro's like "(cowboy accent) it ain't the horse... it's the rider" anyways u can guess the rest
Midori is the main antagonist here because something something he thinks horse racing is kinda stupid and a pain and hates having to help tetora out all the time and wants to move back to the city. But in the end through "love and friendship" he starts to understand
Shinobu can be here too. I just like him he's a lil guy.
Spinoff 2
MC: Kasa
Horse: Sora
Rival: Tori
Rival Horse: Yuzuru
I haven't really thought of a plot for this but I just want Tori to be a silly guy who doesn't necessarily understand horse racing but his horse is actually crazy fast he just doesn't know how to utilize it.
Summary: two rich people duke it out
Spin off 3(I thought about this one the most)
MC: Arashi
Horse: Mitsuru
Friend: Ritsu(or Adonis?)
Teacher: Madara (and Akiomi?)
Rival: Shu
Rival Horse: Mika
Special Guest: Horse Nazuna 🐴
Instead of horse racing this is a dressage competition. Arashi is a girl who never really understood horses until one day she sees a dressage competition and is inspired to try it out
Shu is a pompous guy who is extremely gatekeepy of the sport and thinks Arashi isn't cut out for this.
Arashi tries hard to train her horse for the dressage competition but Mitsuru is more of a dash dash guy so that's the secondary conflict. She gives up halfway through the movie because Mitsuru is too hard headed
She wonders why Mitsuru can't be more like Shu's horse Mika who is more tame and regal(on the outside he is silly on the inside)
Arashi then finds out about Shu's previous horse Nazuna and then her heart compels her to beat him. "If I beat you, you give Mika to me!" "Okay but if I win you quit Dressage forever"
She still has a hard time training Mitsuru but Madara comes in and gives her some cool inspiring advice. (It's revealed Mika isn't as regal as a horse as most people see him to be. It's just Shu understands his strengths and uses it to his advantage)
Idk how but through friendship and magic she is able to get a unique routine with Mitsuru by incorporatinghis interests and personality into the competition (idk how this will happen or what it will look like u just have to trust me)
Anyways she still loses because Shu is an absolute genius in his craft but it's revealed that Shu has greatly regretted his actions in his previous competitions which is why he retired his horse.
And she learns he truly cares about his horses and tries so hard not to repeat the same mistakes and they both end up respecting each other on equal grounds
Direct Sequel of the main movie
MC: Aira
Horse: Hiiro(he was labelled as a friend in the tier list but I think it makes more sense for him to be a horse for this)
Friend: Kohaku
Teacher: Anzu and Tatsumi
Rival: Ibara
Rival Horses: Rinne, Nagisa
Rival Teacher: Himeru
Eh what the hell let's put Niki here too he's just vibin
And Mayoi so those two aren't left out
Aira has always adored horse racing ever since he watched Anzu win a race years ago. She doesn't do horse racing anymore but she gives horse riding lessons to little kids in a small farm on the country side.
Aira travels all the way there with his friend Kohaku in an attempt to meet her and she's like "Oh thank you so much but unfortunately I'm going to have to sell this Farm soon as CorporationName.Inc is trying to tear it down to make a mall or whatever."
Aira goes crazy and is like NOOO WE HAVE TO SAVE THE FARM KOHAKU... and kohaku is like "chill they're literally just horses"
Aira finds out the guy at CorporationName.Inc(Ibara) also races horses and tries to challenge him to save the farm.
Ibara accepts since he likes to beat up weak little guys like Aira and he also thinks there's no way he can lose to this kid who's never done horse racing in his life.
Aira tries to get Anzu to teach him unfortunately she's really busy with taking care of the animals and lessons with the kids so she asks her friend Tatsumi to help out instead
Blablabla they train and Himeru is the one who coaches Ibara and has a rivalry with Tatsumi
One day during practice Ibara takes his horse to the same area where Aira is practicing and Hiiro horse starts acting all crazy. Because it is Rinne horse(this is starting to sound really insane but this whole AU is insane so bear with it)
Anyways idk horse brother drama
Kohaku: they're just horses
Hiiro horse: 🐴
Kohaku: damn...
Yada yada yada Aira wins and saves the farm 🏆
Oh and Kohaku works for Ibara at the end(special request from my friend) idk how or why he just does
Maybe corporationname.inc has good work benefits idk
Now you may be wondering why this is so indepth. Idk either ! I'm just really bored with not much to do so I wrote all of this
I would think of other horse movie plots but I felt so cringe writing this one out

i NEED to know your thoughts on nagito
Genuinely? I really like him. I joke that I hate him but he's one of my favorite characters.
During my playthrough I was basically making fun of him the entire time. But like... Affectionately.
As for any character analysis. I think he's so fascinating. I don't think i can properly wrap my head around him verbally. But i feel like I know what he'll do in a given situation.
He's devout to the concept of hope because of his life circumstances. And it's not like... A rouse. He genuinely believes all of the things he's saying. Which is why he's fun. He's obsessed with hope because he has no hope. He's an orphan with every kind of trauma, he's terminally ill, etc etc.
And yet his obsession is entirely self centered. It's all about him. How he can become a stepping stone for hope. How he can become the ultimate hope. He will actively derail relevant conversations to talk about hope and throw a few insults/compliments around. Also his own obsession with being the ultimate hope probably stemmed from learning about Makoto Naegi in chapter 4
I honestly get the vibe that he finds the investigations and class trials massively entertaining and gets a lot of joy out of figuring things out and watching it all play through.
People also simplify him down to horny hope guy in love with Hajime. Which is just... Kind of offensive to his character. Cause when he really started getting good was in Chapter 4. After he realized they were all remnants of despair, and in particular - his favorite little guy (hajime) was not only a talentless little nobody, but also technically the "ultimate hope" and had all the talents and kickstarted the despair apocalypse. I think if i were him I'd go a little crazy too.
And imagine that. Everyone you know is evil. Including you. Specifically for the ideology you hate. Nagito's decision to kill everyone and himself makes a lot more sense when you consider the fact that he's disgusted by them. His malice- is totally understandable given what he knows and his own personal morals.
He's such an asshole too (affectionate) and i think we need to look at that more. Like most of it before chapter 4 is unintentional. But we need to talk about it. He's such a dick.
His black and white world view on talent and worthiness is also so fascinating. He simply believes some people are better than others. There's no nuance. Which is funny considering his own situation would be nuanced. He got into Hope's Peak by luck and doesn't consider himself an ultimate. But still will take the chance to dunk of Hajime for being in the reserve course. Simply because he feels superior.
speaking of Hajime it's very funny how much Hajime dunks on his whole worldview. Yeah the talentless guy you've been Dunking on for two chapters? He's actually the ultimate hope, has all the talents, saved your ass from the simulation and being taken over by Junko, and hes still willing to associate you after you tried to kill yourself and take everyone with you. Like i cannot imagine how pissed i would be if i was Komaeda after he woke up from the Neo World Program. It's hilarious. It's so dramatic.
I haven't played UDG or watched DR3 yet so I can't get the full scope of his character. But i still think he's great.
That's not to mention things like my opinion on shipping, characters i want to lock in a room with him. (If you're curious, it's Kiyotaka Ishimaru, Natsumi Kuzuryu, and Yasuhiro Hagakure) Etc etc
So in conclusion i hate nagito komaeda

yukari is genuinely just soo well written I can literally go on and on about her she's just everything to me, while I haven't watched the answer but I do know some of the things she says, and you know it all ties down to grief and emotions, yukari is seen at the beginning of the game to be someone that doesn't showcase her deep troubles but she confides in the protagonist upon learning their similarities, yukari and the protagonist (whether it's makoto or kotone) have a great bond, because she finally finds someone she is connected to and someone who understands her, she even had a strained relationship with her mother ehich also brought alot of trouble in her mind even if she didn't want to admit it, yukari as a character had such a good development, it even showcases in her bonds with characters like mitsuru who she was not comfortable around but as time progressed she started to look up to her, the protagonist helped her open up alot more, and shes genuinely one of the strongest characters emotionally too, she was the one to snap mitsuru out of her troubles and she has always been such a good sister figure to ken too, there are minor moments in the game where she looks after him and cares for him deeply, it's rlly frustrating to see people hate on her because she's " mean" (god forbid girls have hobbies), she is more than that, she's one of the most well written characters along with aigis and I hate that no one talks about it! at the end of the day she's just a teenager that literally fought to save the world, plus she's literally the cutest and silliest lil thing ever???? I don't know how anyone can even hate the silly. anyways I love yukari sm I'm her biggest defender

Wondering if the reason people make the thieves out as uncaring after 11/20 is because the game itself moves on too quickly from it? Not saying I haven't kind of fallen into that take myself, though not like harshly, just felt they didn't act like they cared *enough* as in it should have been shown more. Because of the way the game's social sim works, you don't get the thieves checking in on/visiting Akira whilst he recovered like you might see in a fic and it can just go straight back into the confidant ranks of helping people with their problems, with no special dialogue or anything to ask how he's doing beforehand; so I feel like that contributes to the takes a lot, especially when one hasn't replayed in a while (sorry your post gave me thoughts on how people get to that take in the fandom, like I think the plan sucked for other reasons such as "Surely someone would notice the lack of a body?" but that's a bit besides the point)
Yeah I think you're absolutely right about that. The structure of the game doesn't let the Thieves care about Akira afterwards. There's also a bit of dialogue during the plan explanation when Akira says "I'm just glad I didn't die" and no one responds to it, which is...kind of baffling. But that doesn't mean the Thieves don't care about him, it means the writers at Atlus made a weird choice. And we know that because we see in that same scene that all of them were very worried for their leader's safety, and like I mentioned before, Makoto herself says she's glad he made it out safe.
The structure of the game kind of fucks over Akira and makes the Thieves look like worse friends in general, too. He helps them throughout the confidants, and then they "stop hanging out" after that, once they all say they want to start helping him out like he helped them. So we don't ever get to see their friendships become reciprocal. But like, that doesn't mean they actually stopped hanging out in-universe. It's a limitation of the play style.
That all said, I do think there is a valid interpretation you can come to which is that the Thieves don't know Akira was traumatized, or the extent of the danger, because he never talks about it. He's overly selfless and doesn't ever talk about his issues, so I could totally see that happening, and it's my personal interpretation. But that doesn't mean the Thieves are terrible friends for failing to read between the lines like that. It's on Akira for refusing to communicate.
And you can even say that they should have been more concerned for him afterwards, and that they put him on too high of a pedestal and think of him as utterly infallible, especially after he escapes with his life. They're kids, and Akira did just survive the impossible.
Or maybe they try not to bring it up on purpose because they don't want hurt him by talking about it, but letting it fester just hurts Akira more and makes him feel like they don't care.
Point is, there's lots of ways to take this strangeness in the game and make it into interesting fic content to explore. There's absolutely a discrepancy going on and exploring that is super valid and interesting. But turning it into "the Thieves are ambivalent and selfish and completely blind to their leader's suffering" takes that way too far. And like...why do people want to do that? Well, at least in the cases I've seen, the answer is twofold.
First of all, there's a section of the fan base that really hates Makoto. This is mostly common among Akechi fans from what I've seen. I think it's a combination of misogyny and the fact that Makoto can be obnoxious sometimes with her defense of the police, which is especially egregious in this situation. Like, the police beat up her best friend, and she still wants to join them. That can read as callous...if you don't understand her as a character, but I digress. (Someday I should write a Makoto defense post bc yeah. People are very stupid about her.) Point is these people like making up reasons to dislike her even more, which is where I think the whole "the plan was her idea and just an ego trip" thing comes from.
And the other reason is that there are a lot of shuake shippers who really, really want Akechi to be Akira's only "true" friend who "really" understands him. Which like...is true to a certain extent, they do have a special bond and Akechi is the only confidant that doesn't ask Akira to fix something for him, etc etc. But them having a special bond DOES NOT EQUAL all of Akira's other friends being terrible friends who suck and DON'T understand him. There's room for nuance here! You can like the toxic ship between rivals without making it less toxic because actually he's the only one who REALLY respects and loves Akira.
Like, he shot him in the head, guys. Let's not delude ourselves here.
But yeah. I'm pretty sure these two sections of the fanbase are specifically Akechi stans, and so they twist actual parts of the game to make Akechi look better and the Thieves worse. They almost like, take Akechi's perspective to a certain extent? Akechi doesn't like Makoto, and Akechi thinks the Thieves are bad friends (maybe, presumably, we don't really know, but he definitely doesn't really like them all that much and he definitely thinks they idolize Joker too much), and these Akechi stans agree with him. Which is baffling to me. Maybe he has half a point, sure, but Akechi is also REALLY stupid and frequently wrong.
And like, to be clear in case anyone who doesn't know me sees this, I say all this as an Akechi stan (look at my username) and shuake shipper.
In conclusion, I do think there is something to be said about how the confidants are written to be unequal, the Thieves don't check in on Akira enough, and the idolization they very much do have for their leader! These are real things that could make for really interesting conflict in fic. But it can happen without villainizing the Thieves or saying they just straight up don't care about their leader. Which is an obvious lie.
I think most people do agree with me nowadays, I've seen a pattern of recent fic and fandom people talking about how this villainization is stupid and going out of their way to make it clear the Thieves do care, so that's good. It was mostly a thing in early fandom that disliked how Akira was treated by canon (valid), wanted to give him conflict in fic (very valid, I love Akira angst), and wanted to make Akechi the "better friend" (???) who understands Akira better than the others (technically true, but it's complicated).
(As for the body thing, Sae said she made sure no one would check the morgue, so you're not supposed to think about it I guess. Makes me wonder about the people who would have taken his body to the morgue, though. Like, did they not report the missing body to anyone? Idk, maybe Sae paid them off too, lol.)

hi!! may i request ei and ningguang with a traveler s/o? not as lumine or aether but another traveler! have a nice day!
Hello there !
Omg, thanks for asking, you're the first one and I'm so happy you did, of course you may, asks are open after all ! I hope you'll enjoy what I wrote ! And have a nice day you too !
Requested : Yes !
Character : Ei/Raiden Shogun and Ningguang (separately)
Summary : Ei and Ningguang with a traveler!S/O (not Aether and not Lumine, just a chill traveler)
Word count : 981 words
Warning : Well, not really, but in case, spoiler about Liyue and Inazuma's Archon quest
✉️Asks are open✉️
✨ Let's go ! ✨
EI/RAIDEN SHOGUN
You both started dating a few month after your first encounter, as you went across all Teyvat but always came back to Inazuma for a reason or another only for you to go talk to her for hours about whatever you saw or to give her some souvenir you brought, talking about why you were giving it to her.
Honestly, at first, she was kinda warry to letting you go. The last time she (unknowingly) let someone go was her sister and well, we all know what happened.
So she's trying to convince you to settle in Inazuma at the beginning of dating, like that, she can protect you or die with you in case a disaster falls on the Electro Nation.
Don't be mad at her, she's aware you love to travel, but on the other side, she can't afford to lose someone else she cares about. Though her attempts at convincing you to settle might lead to some fights because she's stubborn.
Once she gets you're strong enough to handle yourself in the wild (after a few weeks of talking about it + some travels where you came back perfectly fine) she'll actually go sometimes with you in your travels, if you want it, of course.
Yae Miko was in charge of the Shogunate while she was away, discovering the world.
Traveling was bringing her a new perception of mortals and she was understanding more and more Makoto's point of view about eternity.
When you travel with her, she is clueless about how moras are important but in the wild, she would be the one bringing back food for you to cook or resources to get a nice spot to settle for the night.
When sleeping with you (if she's able to sleep), she holds you protectively very close, in fear of losing you. She's the big spoon.
If you happen to go to an inn for the night, she'll take the desserts as a meal and sleep as close as she can to you.
A very good travel buddy. Not talking too much, and enjoying whatever nature has to offer.
When she can't come with you, she'll stay in Inazuma, waiting for you to come, a bit anxious.
But she'll make time to always greet you, and let you talk for hours around various pictures, souvenirs, notes and food, like you usually do.
Even if she doesn't really like to see you far away from her for too long, at the end, she encourages and lets you do it, as her duty is to always make sure that you can consider Inazuma a home to go back to when you're tired of your last trip.
NINGGUANG
It would be a distance relationship, most of the time.
She never leaves Liyue Harbor, especially after all Rex Lapis' responsibilities fell in her hands along with the rebuilding of the Jade Chamber. At least, she can't afford to leave with all the changes Liyue is currently going through.
You, on the other hand, were always traveling. You loved it, discovering everything on your own, according to your own experience and not through books. Honestly, the only thing she asks you to consider when traveling is to not go anywhere near the Chasm.
Ningguang and you met during the rebuilding of the Jade Chamber, you brought her some important components and since then, you both often talked and it changed into a romantic relationship over time.
Just like her, you hate wasting your time and she likes this about it.
Despite how busy she is, she will always make time for you, to listen to your stories when you get back, carefully looking through your notes, pictures and everything your brought back. For her, those stories and souvenirs are also pieces of information, important to stay at the top of the business game.
She loves the sparkle in your eyes when you talk about travels. She can easily compare it to the shining mora she likes so much to have.
She lets you travel all you want. She even gives you some money to do so when you fall short on it. You don't have to say it, a pouch full of moras will be in your belongings as soon as you don't have any. Paimon would be jealous of this if she knew it.
When you come back to the Jade Chamber from your travels, she'll treat you to anything. She also has some gifts for you, as she wants to spoil you as long as you're with her.
When Liyue's situation stabilizes, with the changes and all... She'll travel with you, to celebrate it.
Ningguang's definition of simple is quite refined, so she might not really survive long in the wild alone, so you gladly help and she can get through it without a problem. She's not complaining though, she enjoys this time with you and she helps around.
When she sleeps with you, she has an arm loosely wrapped around your waist, to hold you close, but without trapping you in some hug.
If you stay at some inn, she'll always take the best room available, after all, traveling is tiring and she wants you to be fully rested to continue the travel ! If you worry about money, she'll say not to worry about it. This woman always has mora on her, somehow.
She's a good traveling buddy, no complaints despite things not being her ways. She just enjoys the experience with its good and bad side.
But she'll always be better at the Jade Chamber with you, only traveling by your side when there's something to celebrate. She knows she can't always travel, that's why each time you return, she greets you and you both can rest and be together, in the Jade Chamber, like some sort of pocket dimension disconnected from anything happening below the floating palace.

The ultimate showdown. Time to reveal yourself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since Makoto was Number One's homunculus, it would have been trivially easy for him to get intel from the WDO. He might even have been the one that pulled the Book of Death out of the library and passed it off to Yuma.
Though if he did, that makes it even more bizarre that he'd go to such lengths to smuggle Yuma and Shinigami into the city.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Makoto's right where he wants to be. I don't know why he's having this duel with Yuma. But it's clear at this point that all of this was for the purpose of tricking Yuma into bringing him into the Mystery Labyrinth.
Tumblr media
To be honest, I'm not entirely sure. Bringing in the detectives as a whole provided a cover to smuggle Yuma in. Is that what they're going for?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
*deep breath* Okay. Yeah, that makes sense. The purpose of bringing everyone to Kanai Ward "to investigate the Great Global Mystery and the Ultimate Secret" was to play the WDO against the Peacekeepers and ultimately remove Yomi from the organization.
But that can't be the whole truth. We wouldn't be standing here on this eldritch rooftop if it was.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So.
To clarify.
Makoto: I can excuse fascism but I draw the line at corporate espionage. Yuma: You can excuse fascism!?
Tumblr media
That. Doesn't. Sound right.
First, because he could have shot us instead of shrieking at us about how badly he wants us to break out Shinigami's powers.
And second, because of the pink-blooded "Master Detective" corpses. That still doesn't seem right.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There it is. Makoto's pink homunculus blood revealed. Mystery Phantoms don't bleed, and an outsider's blood is supposed to be red.
But it wouldn't be, if he was the UG homunculus.
Tumblr media
The burning question. Those bodies couldn't have been theirs, Makoto. So where are they really?
Tumblr media
I believe you, with regards to the WDO bombing. Once Yomi was out of the picture, you couldn't risk them following up on the mission you gave them in the first place.
But that doesn't explain why you fed pink-blooded homunculi to the ferals dressed in our pals' clothes and then pretended to have killed them.
Tumblr media
Yuma. Bro. Do you still think that's what is happening here?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If I hadn't caught that pink/red blood problem with the corpses, I'd be right here with Yuma's vindictive fury. Ironic that we've flipped positions like this.
I mean. I still agree that, y'know, fuck 'im. I just don't have the outrage now that I know our pals are probably alive.
What are you trying to accomplish, Makoto? I don't understand the goal here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's terrifying but also it makes sense. Mystery Phantoms manifest as people who seek to conceal the truth. For Kanai Ward, every resident has an investment in preserving the secrecy of the Blank Week.
Tumblr media
Oh, fuck off. It'd be better for them to try and live well than to survive complacently while waiting for a fate worse than death to slowly come for them.
Tumblr media
You're projecting. You hate yourself for what you are, and you think that because you're the Superior Pyramid Peak that your opinion is universal. That you have the authority to speak for everyone because you're their hierarchical better.
I bet you wear that mask because you can't stand to look in the mirror and see another man's face looking back at you. That's it, isn't it? Your reflection reminds you of what you are?
But that's just, like, your opinion, man. You're a sample size of one. You know who else is a sample size of one? Kurumi, who adjusted to the discovery of the ferals so quickly that she was able to take advantage of the opportunity and snag some closure from her deceased bestie. She has incredible emotional and mental fortitude, and adapts quickly to horrific revelations. I bet she could handle it.
You don't know how people will react. Who are you to take this choice away from them?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah, man. I get it. You took a lot of weight, both moral and emotional, upon your shoulders. You unilaterally carried this city on your back. I'm sure it was very hard.
But you didn't have to do it alone. You chose to do it alone. Because you're poisoned by the philosophy represented in the WDO's very creed.
Tumblr media
Oh good, and now this is happening. Sure, he can join the party too. Why not.
Tumblr media
Actually, none, funny as that is. Wouldn't describe them as fine and dandy but everyone we "killed" is wandering around the Restricted Area right now looking for a snacky-bun robot. If we could all agree that researching ways to repair their broken gene sequences should be the priority going forward then everything would be fine.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
To be honest, Yuma, neither do I. At the big picture level, it's hard to know what would truly be best for Kanai Ward. All I can say with certainty is that we'll never get there if we remain mired in a status quo that's doomed to end in tragedy.
But we can start by wringing the truth out of Makoto about what happened to our friends. That's critical. If they're alive, then maybe Makoto can be made to see reason. To understand the importance of working together towards a brighter future for everyone in Kanai Ward.
And if they're dead, then we stab him in the fucking throat and dump his body off the ledge. If he isn't with us when the Mystery Labyrinth comes down, then he'll be trapped here, unable to escape, doomed to wander as a tormented specter for all of time. That's what Shinigami told Vivia, anyway.

"It's funny, you know. When I first laid eyes on you at the tower, I thought of you, a dragon, as just some beast. Nothing more than some proud mongrel with an inflated ego."
It's ever so clear that Orchidus hasn't at all inherited his otherworld counterpart's charm - but as he drags a pocket knife across a length of wood to fletch an arrow, the elf's eyes remain closed in meditative sincerity. It's almost like he's not expecting to get knocked on the head for that comment.
"When the idea occurred to me, when we met after the fact, that there was even the most remote possibility you could be interested in me, I... truthfully, I scoffed. It was unthinkable to me that we could ever share a place in the hearts of one another that wasn't choked by bitterness. Now, though... now that I've seen who you've become and what you're struggling with, and Maisie too... I've had a realisation."
All that time in the tower, I laughed at the idea that you should be worthy of me. It's taken me this long to see... I should have been asking whether I was worthy of you."
Unprompted Asks || Always Accepting! @ofthescatteredstars
Makoto listens to the other's words, watching as he fletches his arrow, and a brief look of annoyance flashes across Makoto's face as he hears the other considered him little more than someone with an overinflated ego. As much as he would hate to admit it, part of him is fond of Orchidus, even if it's more or less in a physical manner, with the tiniest bit of emotional fondness as well. Even if the other could be rather annoying with how hard he was trying to make up for his first impression. It's nothing that couldn't be dealt with in time, and with patience.
"Hm. Normally, I'd give you a swat with my tail after those words, but I suppose for now, I'll let the first part of that slide. However, don't mistake yourself as being unworthy. I despise when someone thinks they aren't worthy of my presence. If you weren't worthy, I wouldn't be making the effort to befriend you."
Makoto's tail sways slightly, before it maneuvers around to slide underneath the other elf's chin, tilting his head up to look at him.
"Were you unworthy, I certainly wouldn't have let you stay in my room and share my bed with me. Of course, part of me wants to ruin you and have you crying on your knees...But I like to think that'll happen once we take the next step in whatever we are."
Makoto doesn't love very easily, but giving himself to someone who he's slightly fond of, even if as sad as it sounds, out of a desire of closeness, to another who could understand him in a way...It would be welcome.
"Of course, I suppose I would want our first time to be more than a little romantic. I don't want it to be something done out of the heat of the moment...Nor do I want it to be a result of us simply being glad to be alive. For now, darling, I suppose I'll have to satisfy myself with your lap and fleeting kisses, hm?"

Ive seen plenty of hate towards yuuken in the twst manga just for being a "male protagonist" like- can yall piss off?
I honestly don't understand the hate and I tried to see it from a different angle.
I think, mostly, it's because their wish-fulfillment is not granted.
I assumed that everyone knows the prologue of Yuu/Prefect/MC arriving at Twisted-Wonderland. Now, Yuu/Prefect/MC has their own personality, however, they are hard to dissect. Most of the time we put our own personality in there and speak by choosing the options provided. And the downside of this, Yuu/Prefect/MC can switch depending on the players.
Now, imagine having someone like that as your protagonist. How many times we've seen an anime adaptation of a game where the MC is just the player-insert? Generally, the main character is just "nice" (and sometimes "cute", "beautiful", "handsome", but those aren't personality) to appeal to every demographic. But to some people, this is boring. An anime, manga, and light novel needs a stronger protagonist. Even someone like Kirito (SAO), Hajime Nagumo (Arifureta), and Makoto Naegi (Danganronpa) have personality, even if they're ended up being too mary-sueish, edgy, or bland.
Now going back to Twisted-Wonderland manga. How do you make this manga appealing to everyone with a self-insert type MC? You can't just make someone "nice". You need more spice in them.
So, Yuuken is one of the answers.
Personally, I like Yuuken. He's not that bright, perfect for the no brain cells gang, but has a strong sense of justice and is always there to support his friends with his big brother aura. If we're looking in context, in a wave of mostly asshole cast (twisted villains, remember?), Yuuken gives a refreshing change as someone who is naturally a good guy. At least you know, in a school for villains, there's this one guy who is morally good.
To add the point, the manga is fantastic and we can see the characters' expressions fully. Yuuken deadpan expression and just the no-thoughts-head-empty are great.
I think what we need to see is not "male protagonist", "nb protagonist" or "female protagonist", but more of "what makes them a protagonist". It doesn't matter what gender the MC is, if they don't have a strong personality, then they won't be strong enough to be in the central face.

top five fics (ever. for a fandom/pairing. by people you know. by strangers. whatever u want go crazy) ORRRR top five fob songs bc I know u and ilu and I wanna hear ur thoughts
hi sav. hope you know what you've unleashed here.
TOP FIVE FICS.....EVER
tell me about the big bang (star wars sequel trilogy, Finn/Poe, 37.8k.) i made my mom read this fic and that's not a bit i literally had her read this. and she isn't even a star wars fan. like she's seen tfa but she wasn't even that into it i just made her read this because it's one of humanity's greatest literary achievements and she still brings it up to me in conversation that's how much she enjoyed it. sorry this turned into more of tmatbb being one of my mom's top five fics but yknow. context. anyways i don't want to say too much about it because i don't want to spoil it for anyone who might check it out which Please Do That but suffice to say. it is a work of fucking art and i can only hope to someday write with half the talent nina varela possesses in her pinky finger
darling i'd wait for you, even if you didn't ask me to (the great pretender season 1, Laurent/Makoto, 11k.) swear to god this isn't me sucking up it is still the best gift i have ever received in my life. hey you reading this have you ever conceptualized a fic and went "boy i wish i could feed this into a machine and it would execute the idea perfectly in a way that managed to surprise and delight me as i read it" well you simply must get yourself a sav. because she will do that for you. anyways watch tgp season one literally just to read this fic.
Be Gay; Solve Crime (american vandal, Peter/Sam, 9.2k.) this fic has everything--outsider POV! perfectly in character banter! angie and michael who are real and canon to me! mr fernandez did you eat shit! gay lou carter! do your string thing man! MING, EVEN!!!!!! consider this a rotating spot for the work of my lovely lovely friends in the hanover high AV club, who have churned out some of the bangers of all fucking time which i talked about some of those in a top five ask four calendar years ago
Over & Through (dimension 20 fantasy high, gen, 62.7k.) also made my mom read this. she got the riz chapter first and said it gave her horrifying acid trip dreams. which is honestly so fair. if you are a dimension 20 fan and you haven't read this fic what are you doing. the form is inventive the prose is stunning the characterization is painfully sharp. if you've been watching neverafter going hey i wish this was actually horror READ THIS RIGHT NOW THE HORROR IS IMMACULATE
If You Could Let Me Inside Your Heart (leverage, ot3, 2.5k.) remains my favorite leverage fic of all time and also my favorite group character study. what a lovely premise and executed with such grace and perfect understanding of character and pacing like so much work is done for its length and GOD IS IT ALL GORGEOUS
okay haha onto the fall out boy--JUST KIDDING. I HOPE YOU HAD YOUR WEAPON READY TO TAKE ME OUT BECAUSE ONE TIME I SAID IF I EVER MADE A RECLIST WITHOUT I HATE TO LOOK INTO THOSE EYES AND SEE AN OUNCE OF PAIN YOU WOULD HAVE TO SHOOT ME BECAUSE I'D BE A POD PERSON. SO HERE'S ME DOING THAT, PLEASE READ IT, READ IT NOW. WHAT FANDOM OR PAIRING OR LENGTH? YOU GET TO FIND OUT WHEN YOU CLICK! THAT! LINK!
okay haha onto the fall out boy. so i earnestly did try to come up with my top five fob songs on my own. then i had a breakdown and filled out the whole damn fob song sorter yes all 500 battles. heres my top 25. note the repetition of numbers indicating my inability to make decisions
Tumblr media
elaborations on the medal winners:
THE KIDS AREN'T ALRIGHT: when this song came out i was thirteen years old (in middle school) (did not have my own itunes account) (did not have spotify) and as all songs do it was released at midnight (i was thirteen) (supposed to be asleep) (it was a school night) i hid under the covers with my ipod touch on the lowest brightness setting (supposed to be asleep on a school night) midnight arrived and i could not buy the song on itunes because then my parents would get an email about the purchase and know i had stayed up (i was supposed to be asleep) so i just listened to the 30 second preview on itunes for like an hour straight (i cried) (a lot)
THE (SHIPPED) GOLD STANDARD: me for real bc im literally no good at math
(COFFEE'S FOR CLOSERS): also in middle school i used to doodle song lyrics to keep myself focused during class and my history professor was taking a walk around the classroom and spotted my doodle of a little coffee cup with the lyrics "i will never believe in anything again" and went "aw why not," clearly concerned for my mental health and wellbeing. and despite that horribly traumatizing experience, coffee's for closers remains one of my favorite songs in the world. so thats proof that its really very good
OF ALL THE GIN JOINTS IN THE WORLD: you only hold me up like thiiiiis cause you don't know who i really aAAaaAAAaam
PAVLOVE: sorry its the quirky girl tendencies again. when will they put this on spotify so i can scream my little heart out to I WANT TO MAKE YOU AS LONELY AS MEEEE SO YOU CAN GET GET ADDICTED TO THIS YOU CAN GET GET ADDICTED TO THIS! anyways folie >
now, a disclaimer: this sorter is obviously older than two weeks and thus does not include the songs off SMFS. i feel like recency bias means i can't accurately fit them into the list but i will say that there is no universe in which hold me like a grudge doesn't make top fifteen
if you've reached the end of this post, thanks for going on this journey with me. i meant to be asleep an hour ago. but i did this instead. was it worth it. well whos to say. if you ended up reading IHTLITEASAOOP then yes it was.

I know you answered a zombie au ask just yesterday, but, do you have any more drafts of Makoto interacting with his class? Or class 77?
No worries; I love that you guys enjoy this AU, and I enjoy writing it!
(Also, I'd hate to seem opportunistic, but I've got a lot going on right now, so here's a link to my PayPal if anyone's feeling generous. Sorry about the old username; I don't know how to change it.)
...
"...Thirty-six...Thirty-seven...Thirty-eight..."
"Can she tell if you don't do all fifty?" Nagito asked, a curious tilt to his head as he ate a handful of popcorn, watching Makoto brush one of Junko's somehow-intact pigtails.
"Yeah, she can tell." (Makoto interspersed his counting throughout his explanation.) "I always thought she was joking when she said fifty, but one day I tried it, and it actually curbs a lot of her, uh, mischief."
In fact, Junko was genuinely falling asleep, her head dipping to rest against his knee.
Nagito looked fascinated. "You mean, she notices if you skip numbers or-?"
"Yep. If I try to cheat, she acts out again."
"Amazing. That seems to mean she can still count!"
"I guess so."
"Does she still talk?"
"Noises, mostly. Sometimes she says words, but they seem random. When Kyoko says words, they're definitely related to what she means to say. I'm not sure if Junko still understands what she's saying or if she just remembers the sounds of some words." He switched sides. "One...two..."
"She's putting a bone in your sock," Nagito observed.
Junko's eyes were still closed, and her body was still relaxing against Makoto's leg, but her hand had found his ankle and slipped a sparrow's vertebrae as deep into his sock as she could get it. It looked like she did it just absentmindedly.
"Yeah, she does that. It's fine. I'll take it out later. The real problem is when she pretends to choke on a bone so I'll get close enough for her to bite. She's really good at it."
"Hmm." Nagito smiled absently. He set aside his popcorn to help Ibuki un-snag her shirt from one of her piercings, but his mind was still on the previous topic, as evidenced by him shortly inquiring, "Do you like it when they bite you?"
"Like it? What do you mean?"
"Well, at some point, doesn't it start to seem like a sign of affection?"
"Oh, that. I guess in a way, yeah. I mean, they're definitely not doing it because they want to hurt us. It's just part of how they communicate. It's to show us what they're feeling."
"Exactly!"
Makoto wasn't sure what to make of Nagito's big grin, but he did his best. "It's pretty reassuring, how they can still make sure we understand them. It shows that they're still themselves, even though they're different in a lot of ways."
"Still themselves," Nagito echoed wistfully.
"...Forty-eight...Forty-nine...Fifty." Makoto finished at last with the other pigtail and carefully maneuvered Junko to sleep on something other than him. While he was getting her settled, Leon took the hairbrush and started brandishing it at him, but he merely said, "Sorry, but my hands need a rest. We'll do it later, okay?"
Leon tried to forcibly wrap Makoto's hand around the brush, and when Makoto stood his ground about taking a break, Leon huffed and threw it so hard across the room that he cracked the leg of a desk.
"You're just gonna have to go get it," Makoto said wearily.
Leon stalked away to get the brush.
Nagito offered Makoto some of his popcorn. He took a few kernels.
"That's one way he's different," Makoto said. "Leon never wanted anyone to touch his hair before."
"The dye job looks good," Nagito observed. "It was your first time, right?"
"Yeah. They sent me instructions with the dye, though, when I told them how agitated he was about his roots growing in." Makoto smiled at the memory. It had been difficult to dye Leon's hair, but he did feel like it had brought them closer. "My hands were stained for days."
Nagito looked at him a little oddly. Almost...sadly? No, that wasn't quite it.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing's wrong."
"Then, what are you thinking about?"
Nagito took some more popcorn, affecting a casual look. "Just that it's ironic, that's all."
"Ironic? That...my hands were stained? Or...?"
"Ah, Teruteru!" Nagito sighed, pulling his bag of popcorn out of the way too late to stop Teruteru from dropping a handful of bloody meat into it. "Well, that's a shame. We had so much left."
Makoto couldn't help thinking that Nagito was usually better at anticipating Teruteru's acts of food vandalism, and that he seemed relieved for the change of subject.
But he guessed it wasn't that big a deal, so he moved on. "Hina and Sakura always love having Nekomaru over. It's nice to see them having fun."
"I've been thinking about that," Nagito said. "What if, every now and then, we took the athletes outside? They really do need more room to run around."
What? Makoto checked to see if he was serious. "Outside? Where the reserve course are?"
"Oh, I'm pretty sure most of them are hunkered down in the reserve course buildings. And if we both do it together, then we can both make sure there aren't any problematic consequences. I think Peko and Sakura will stop the others from going too far."
"Yeah, maybe they would..." Makoto frowned. "But I still don't- Oh, hold that thought; Syo has scissors again." He sprang to his feet. "Byakuya! Help?"
Hina ended up being the one to restrain Syo, who had come perilously close to cutting off Hiyoko's ponytail.
...
(For the record, I assume the colorful hair and eyes are the characters' natural features until given contrary evidence, but Leon does say that his hair is dyed, like, the first time we meet him, so.)

This is a bunch of absolute randomness. I'm sorry, I'm running wild with that incorrect quote generator. Why are some of these so fitting? XD Danganronpa this time.

Nagito: There are seven chairs and ten kids. What do you do? Hajime: Have everyone stand. Kyoko: Bring three more chairs! Makoto: The most important ones can sit down. Byakuya: Kill three.

Everyone is standing around the broken coffee maker Nagito: So. Who broke it? I'm not mad, I just wanna know. Everyone: Hajime: …I did. I broke it. Nagito: No. No you didn't. Chiaki? Chiaki: Don't look at me. Look at Makoto. Makoto: What?! I didn't break it. Chiaki: Huh, that's weird. How'd you even know it was broken? Makoto: Because it's sitting right in front of us and it's broken. Chiaki: Suspicious. Makoto: No, it's not! Kyoko: If it matters, probably not, but Byakuya was the last one to use it. Byakuya: Liar! I don't even drink that crap! Kyoko: Oh really? Then what were you doing by the coffee cart earlier? Byakuya: I use the wooden stirrers to push back my cuticles. Everyone knows that, Kyoko! Hajime: Okay let's not fight. I broke it. Let me pay for it, Nagito. Nagito: No! Who broke it!? Everyone: Kyoko: Nagito… Chiaki's been awfully quiet. Chiaki: rEALLY?! Everyone starts arguing Nagito, being interviewed: I broke it. I burned my hand so I punched it. Nagito: I predict 10 minutes from now they'll be at each other's throats with warpaint on their faces and a pig head on a stick. Nagito: Nagito: Good. It was getting a little chummy around here.
