When I finally hit perfection on switch I am buying stardew valley for pc so I can mod it. I would love some mod recommendations but also want to keep in mind that my poor laptop is nine whole years old and wheezes even running webkinz when I get the sudden urge to play it and I'm pretty sure too many mods would kill it lmao
Note: I know y*ndere elliott is a popular one (censored bc I don't want this showing up in the tag out of respect for those who actually enjoy it,) but that trope is genuinely triggering for me thanks to a terrible friend I had as a teenager so that's already in the no pile haha

I just realized I accidentally blocked someone who had sent in an ask, and I was about to accidentally block someone else until I saw they had liked a post after following
Please put something on your blog! Even just a title so I can tell you’re not a bot.
Just having a couple posts on your blog doesn’t help since bots sometimes reblog random posts to look real. The only way to avoid an accidental block is to please have either a pfp, a cover photo, or a title.

TESSDE AU (+ Taliesin) Continuation of this
Allora has spent the last week at home with the boys and Bren, relaxing not too dissimilar from a dysfunctional family. The trio have been taking their time getting to know one another better and Allora has become more comfortable with displays of affection- slowly. She's received a letter from a courier that Lucien will be coming home in the next few days, and another from Inigo that she was free to teleport him to her whenever she needs. Deciding to wait until both were back, she happily runs into Lucien's arms as he entered into Whiterun.
Allora: You're back! *squeezes him tightly, burying herself against him* Welcome home! Lucien: *a little teary eyed at her tight hug and the big warm welcome, chuckling softly* Well hello! This is certainly nice. Allora: I missed you. Lucien: Awh! I missed you too. Hello Kaidan, Taliesin! Kaidan: Welcome back Lucien. Find out anythin' interestin' in yer studies? *claps Lucien on the shoulder* Lucien: *eyes bulging in surprise* Uh... w-well, yes! Many very interesting things! Would you like to hear about them? Taliesin: Perhaps we should have Allora bring home our final guest first? Lucien: Final guest? *releases Allora as she pulls away* Allora: *focuses on Inigo's soul as the magick forms into her palm, whispering* Inigo. *casts the spell a few feet from her, and out apperates Inigo* Inigo: Whoa! You are very lucky my friend, I just finished going to the bathroom- oof! Allora: *flung herself to hold onto Inigo just as tightly, laughing happily* Welcome home! Inigo: Hehe. Thank you, my friend. It is good to be home. Lucien: Inigo! Where were you, old chap? And what on Nirn was that spell?! Inigo: Oh, Lucien! You returned! It is good to see you. We went on a long quest for myself after you had left to your Dwemer ruin; it turns out I also have a big prophecy just like our friend here! Taliesin: Yes, perhaps we can discuss that back at the house? *gently pulls Allora closer to him and guides her back home* Kaidan: *walking after the two* Aye, plenty to talk about. Good t'see you, Inigo. Inigo: Yes! I am glad to see you are all well. What has happened while we were out? Allora: Well... *** Lucien: *frowning in thought as Allora sat between Taliesin and Kaidan, both of them hovering around her quite a lot more than normal* ... Inigo: Julian? Lucien: Hm? Oh, my apologies. Were you saying something? Inigo: You were saying something about your Dwemer ruins, but you went quiet. Lucien: *flustered, coughing into his hand* Ah, sorry, I believe the... long travel is getting to me is all. Allora: Do you need to rest? You can take my room! Lucien: Ah, no no. I wouldn't want to kick you out of your own room! Kaidan: *standing up to gather more alto wine* You wouldn't. She's been sleepin' in the master. Taliesin: More accurate to say you'd be taking the room from Mr. Folsterhan. Inigo: Does this have to do with the kidnappers? Allora: *blushing brightly as she doesn't look the two in the eye* ...Not... exactly... but kind of... Kaidan: *returns with two bottles of alto wine, refilling Allora's glass before his* We're all sleepin' in there together. Lucien: *eyes widen as he stares at Taliesin and Kaidan, realizing they haven't bit off each other's head once since he returned* You're- you're together? Inigo: When did this happen? Congratulations you three! Allora: *swallows down half her glass of wine in one go to try and curb the embarrassment* Oh god...

sometimes I want to have a nice friendly chat with the people who make poly mods for games
I understand that in order to trigger certain kinds of ingame scenarios there needs to be An Single Romance flagged so the game knows who to put into the scene I understand that in order to get those scenes to trigger even with a polymod installed, you gotta Pick Somebody to be flagged
what I don't understand is why you gotta call it the "True Love" option. you couldn't go with something a BIT less offensive like "primary partner" if you really have something against just calling it what it is (forced monogamy)

tbh i really want to start a small writing group on discord. Like, idk, it feels like having a designated Goal and a deadline to hit with a few other people to keep eachother motivated and be able to just chat with about what everyones story is and just being a lil support group, might be massively helpful in getting shit done.

what could it be that's not the wand of symmetry... like the wand of symmetry if you rapidfire placing tnt next to a spot you know has a power source, you can light a lot at once. once tnt is lit its not an entity block so you could theoretically put as many tnt there as you want until the first one goes off (and blows up the power source). but What could it be that isn't the wand of symmetry. that one machine thing that fills a room with water? that's too slow to drown them. i dont know if there's somethng that can do that with lava. is it getting a sleeper agent into an egg's room to kill them? that's going to be a risk no matter what, if "being a sleeper agent" is a risk that could be applied to any player.
huh. you could use pngs to audibly tell the eggs to leave their rooms through the walls. tell them to warp to x location and get them there. that's an easy one to fix though so i don't think it's that

there is a new scourge on AO3 that I discovered recently...
that scourge is "Placeholder fics". This is thing, where someone posts a "fic" on AO3 with a summary and tags (and sometimes even a complete tag), but when you click on the "fic" the content of the "fic" is something like:
"coming soon" or "in progress" or "an idea I'll write someday"
This is a scourge on AO3 tags that directly violates TOS Section IV, as it is spam (sect B) and inappropriate content (sect H) (not, strictly speaking a fanwork).
If you see these "placeholder fics" on AO3 REPORT THEM. It is easy to do.
Link the fic in report and in the description, you can write something like this:
The linked "fic" is a so-called "placeholder fic" where the author posts a work to a tag and the only content is the words "In progress". The "fic" appears in tags, yet contains no content, so I would consider it to be spam. Thank you!
(This, btw is the actual thing that I wrote to report one of these a few weeks ago)
If you want to get jazzy you can even mention that you believe the "fic" violates TOS IV.H (which is what the AO3 mod told me in the email response to my report) or TOS IV.B.
You can report anonymously if you want afaik. Once you submit a report the AO3 moderators will get back to you at some point to update you on that report and action taken.
This is a simple way that YOU can make AO3 better today. If you see a "fic" that violates TOS in any way, REPORT IT. There are literally millions of fics on AO3 and the moderators can't possibly go through all of them without YOUR help.
I suspect that the people who are posting these "placeholder fics" are probably very young people who are very new to fandom and fanfiction and do not know better. If you are reading this post, and you are one of these people, know that I don't hate you, I just want you to know that what you are doing is a violation of the AO3 TOS and that it fills AO3 tags with spam, preventing readers from finding actual fic to read. There can be (and certainly are) MANY fics on AO3 with the SAME names, if that's what is motivating this.
AO3 isn't a social media site, it's an ARCHIVE for fanfiction. If you want to communicate with your following that you are planning on writing a new fic, use your tumblr, your reddit, your dreamwidth, your substack, your pillowfort, your livejournal, your bird site or whatever the fuck you have to do this. Link your socials in your bio on AO3 if you must. Mention it in the author's notes on your latest work. IDK, just don't post empty "fics" on the ARCHIVE.

-->Oooh, Smiler came so close to completing their party-bot without being zapped! But the damn game hit them with electrocution like a quarter of the way from the end, so I sent them out to gather the eggs and make sure the coop was clean while waiting out the “Dazed” moodlet. Alice also helped out with the chores, scavenging parts from and cleaning up the trash piles around the wind turbines from the guests’ attempts to help repair them before Victor came in with his Repairio skills. Can’t let them fester and grow trash plants! (Well, I suppose we COULD, but that’s not one of the plants I’d like Victor to start growing, so. . .)
-->Around this time, I noticed Smiler was looking a bit thirsty, so I decided to send them in to chat with Victor in the greenhouse and get a drink while Victor finished up in there. Victor IS their favorite flavor of plasma, after all. :) And they gave him a thank-you massage right afterward. Only right! (Still wish I could get some consensual brainwarp things going on again, though. . .)
-->After making sure everything in the greenhouse was sorted (so many plants to evolve!), everyone headed inside -- Victor and Alice to share a nice lunch together with some flirty vibes, and Smiler to record their very first video at their media production station! Beauty tips were in when they studied the trends, so they did a video on their own personal style. You have to admit it’s unique! XD But yes, everyone was having quite a lovely afternoon --
-->But uh-oh, who is that at the door? He looks very official indeed. . .

That person the other day who said they love seeing photos of thin people holding up 3XL jeans to show all of the "hard work" they put into living "the life they want," there's so much I could say about that.
I could explain that any fat person you see has almost certainly put in that same amount of "hard work" to become thin and then watched as their body refused to stay that way.
I could explain basic, unbiased weight science proving that weight loss is only temporary for the 4 millionth time.
I could explain that fat people are human beings who deserve to be treated with dignity, respect, and humanity, again for the 4 millionth time.
I could explain and explain and explain, but I'm tired of explaining to people who don't listen and pull their views out of their ass. So instead, I think we should applaud photos of fat people holding up the jeans they temporarily wore as a thin person.
Let's celebrate the fat people who once were a size small. Let fat people hold up their old tiny jeans in celebration of:
Beating an eating disorder
No longer experiencing food insecurity
Recovering from an illness that had caused weight loss
Accepting their fat body instead of abusing themself to become thin again
Leaving an abusive family/living situation where they were starved and/or forced to conform to prevent abuse
Having the genes of ancestors who survived famines
Knowing that there is not a single scientifically-proven method of weight loss
No longer wasting time fighting their body's weight gain from health conditions that cause weight gain, like PCOS
Accepting their body that changed due to pregnancy
Accepting their body that changed due to puberty
Accepting their body that changed due to transitioning
Allowing themself to take the medicine they need to treat mental or physical illness no matter the weight gain side effects
Not listening to harassment from bullies, friends, family, or anyone else who demanded they be thin to deserve peace from mistreatment
Literally just getting older and having a body that has changed with time
Loving themself despite the entire world believing that fat people do not deserve love
Existing, because fat people do not need to justify their body and existence to anyone
And so much more

as per usual, this was posted at a time when i should be sleeping lol. this has been proofread but some grammatical errors may have still slipped by me. apologies in advance, any and all mistakes are mine!
please enjoy!! feedback is always appreciated.
(this has been crossposted on ao3)
Sometimes, Leon goes quite some time without hearing from the government. On the rare occasion he gets extended breaks, he gets a little lazy when it comes to keeping his hair short. Short hair stays out of Leon's face, and prevents any evil residents from grabbing it when he's on missions, but when he doesn't have any hostile enemies to fight and he spends most of his time with you, he likes to let it grow just a little bit – after all, it's nice to save some money on haircuts and it gets some pretty entertaining reactions out of you.
When you first noticed Leon's longer hair, you didn't comment on it; you assumed that he'd cut it fairly quickly. But several days had passed, and his hair only grew longer, much to your surprise (and delight). You brought it up to him one night while he was helping you cook dinner, his shaggy blonde hair falling into his eyes.
"Are you growing out your hair?" You had asked him. Leon looked away, almost in a shy manner that you found absolutely adorable.
"Yeah… I know it's unusual of me to keep it this long but it's been a while since my last mission and I haven't really felt like going to the barbershop, so…" he trailed off, running his fingers through the locks in a way that made your heart skip a beat.
There was a bit of silence before Leon spoke again. "Do you like it?" He asked you, to which you could only chuckle in response, walking over to him and running your own fingers through the strands before letting your arms rest on his shoulders, playing with the hairs on his nape.
"Leon Kennedy. Is that even a question?" You replied incredulously. Leon just smiled, chuckling softly as he placed his large hands on your waist. The two of you leaned in and shared a sweet kiss, momentarily forgetting about dinner altogether.
Leon eventually pulled away first, but his face remained close enough to yours that you could still feel his breath on your lips. Your fingers were still playing with his hair tenderly as your eyes admired the gorgeous sight directly in front of you.
Leon had always been handsome – that was just a known fact. The sky is blue, the grass is green, and Leon Kennedy is attractive as all hell. But with the way his long hair was framing his face, you were falling in love all over again.
"Somehow you've gotten even more beautiful. I didn't even think that was possible." You teased, tucking some hair behind his ear.
"You're really loving this, aren't you?" Leon playfully asked, grinning warmly at you.
"To say that I'm loving this is a massive understatement – I am obsessed." you said with a smirk, saying the words against Leon's lips before pressing yours against his once more, this kiss a bit more passionate than the first one and making you feel light-headed in the best way possible, butterflies viciously attacking your stomach as Leon still somehow managed to sweep you off your feet years into the relationship.
Leon tried to pull away again after several minutes of lazily making out in the middle of the kitchen, but every time he tried you would chase his lips, never keeping your mouths separated for longer than a second.
"Baby," Leon whispered against your lips, and eventually you leaned back, but not without great reluctance.
Leon just kissed your cheek. "We should probably get back to preparing dinner, yeah?" He asked. With a pout, you nodded.
"Right." You said, remembering the poor vegetables that still needed cutting.
Before you turned your attention back on cutting vegetables though, you stepped back and took in Leon's now messy hair after your fingers had run through the strands a million times, giggling to yourself quietly. It looked like a cute little bird's nest.
"God, I am going to be all over you." You muttered under your breath. But your boyfriend's trained government agent ears picked up on your words.
"Aren't you always all over me already?" He replied, teasingly.
You added the chopped vegetables into a boiling pot as you responded. "Well, yes. But even more now. Watch out." You threw a wink his way, and Leon just rolled his eyes, but couldn't fight the fond smile from taking over his lips.
Eventually, the two of you got back into the tranquility of cooking, moving around each other almost as if dancing in harmony, a comfortable quietness filling the kitchen. At some point, though, when the food was simmering and you began cleaning up the kitchen, Leon had left for a moment. You didn't think anything of it, assuming he just needed to be off of his feet for a bit.
But then he came back, his silky blonde hair pulled into a small ponytail, some of the more disobedient strands framing his face in the most endearing way. You were wiping the counter when you suddenly froze, your face feeling as warm as the pot of stew on the stove as you shamelessly ogled at your boyfriend's good looks.
Leon sensed your staring, quickly meeting your gaze. "Something on your mind?" He asked playfully.
You wanted to throw your wash cloth at his ridiculously charming face. "Leon. You look so adorable right now. I'm going to explode."
Leon chuckled. "Please, don't. The counter will get dirty again."
You walked over to him, hitting him gently with the washcloth still in your hand before surprising him with a chaste kiss against his lips.
Eventually, dinner was served, and after the two of you ate, it was about time for bed. You both did your usual nightly routines before jumping into your shared bed, holding each other close. Leon was usually the big spoon, as per your request on most nights, but you weren't passing up the opportunity to hold his head close to your chest and to run your fingers through his soft strands.
Leon hummed contentedly, and it was so quiet you almost didn't catch it; but you did, and the sound instantly brought a smile to your face.
"That feels nice, sweetheart." He said lazily, as he was very obviously trying to fight sleep.
This man will be the death of me, you thought.
"It does?" You asked. Leon nodded.
"Mhmm." Was all he replied with, melting into your touch once more.
Some silence passed, the two of you on the very edge of being pulled into the embrace of a deep slumber, but not for long as you expressed one more thought that had entered your mind.
"You know, with your hair this length, I got some style ideas…"
"Oh yeah?" Leon replied groggily.
"Yeah. I have to see you in pigtails."
Leon's half open eyes were now fully open at your comment. A sharp laugh escaped you immediately.
"Leon, please. Do it for me?"
He shook his head, laughing along with you. But the next morning, he let you put his hair into two cute pigtails with a couple of your hairties. And of course, you took photos.

What Makes an Ethnic Villain "Ethnic" or "Villainous?" How Do You Offset it?
anonymous asked:
Hello WWC! I have a question about the antagonist of my story. She is (currently) Japanese, and I want to make sure I’m writing her in a way that doesn’t associates [sic] her being Asian with being villainous.  The story is set in modern day USA, this character is effectively immortal. She was a samurai who lost loved ones due to failure in combat, and this becomes her character[sic] motivation (portrayed sympathetically to the audience). This story explores many different time periods and how women have shown valor throughout history. The age of the samurai (and the real and legendary female warriors from it) have interested me the most, which is why I want her to be from this period.  The outfit she wears while fighting is based on samurai armor, and she wears modern and traditional Japanese fashion depending on the occasion. She acts pretty similar to modern day people, though more cynical and obsessed with her loss. She’s been able to adapt with the times but still highly values and cherishes her past.  She is the only Asian main character, but I plan to make a supportive Japanese side character. She’s a history teacher who knows about the villain and gives the protagonists information to help them, but isn’t involved in the main plot otherwise.  Are the way I’m writing this villain and the inclusion of a non-antagonist Japanese character enough to prevent a harmful reading of the story, or is there more I should do?
Why Does Your Villain Exist?
This makes me feel old because David Anders plays a villain with this kind of backstory in the series Heroes starring Masi Oka.
I think you want to think about what you mean when you say:
Villainous (In what way? To whom? To what end?)
Harmful (What tropes, narratives and implications are present?)
I’m relatively infamous in the mod circle for not caring too much about dimensions of “harm”. The concept is relative and varies widely between people and cultures. I don’t see much value in framing motivations around “What is less harmful?” I think for me, what matters more is:
“What is more true?”
“Are characteristics viewed as intrinsic to background, or the product of experiences and personal autonomy?”
“Will your portrayal resonate with a large audience?”
“What will resonate with the members of the audience who share the backgrounds your characters have?”
This post offers additional questions you could ask yourself instead of “is this okay/not okay/harmful.”
You could write a story where your antagonist is sly, sadistic, violent and cold-blooded. It may not be an interpretation that will make many Japanese from combat backgrounds feel seen or heard, but it’s not without precedent. These tropes have been weaponized against people of Japanese descent (Like Nikkei Japanese interned during World War II), but Japan also brutalized a good chunk of Asia during World War II. See Herge’s Tintin and The Blue Lotus for an example of a comic that accurately showcases the brutality of Japan’s colonization of Manchuria, but also is racist in terms of how Japanese characters are portrayed (CW: genocide, war, imperialism, racism).
You could also write a story where your character’s grief gives way to despair, and fuels their combat such that they are seen as calculating, frigid and deeply driven by revenge/ violence. This might make sense. It’s also been done to death for Japanese female warriors, though (See “Lady Snowblood” by Kazuo Koike and Kazuo Kamimura here, CW: sexual assault, violence, murder and a host of other dark things you’d expect in a revenge story).
You could further write a story where your antagonist is not necessarily villainous, but the perceived harm comes from fetishizing/ exoticizing elements in how her appearance is presented or how she is sexualized, which is a common problem for Japanese female characters.
My vote always goes to the most interesting story or character. I don’t see any benefit to writing from a defensive position. This is where I'll point out that, culturally, I can't picture a Japanese character viewing immortality as anything other than a curse. Many cultures in Japan are largely defined by transience and the understanding that many things naturally decay, die, and change form.
There are a lot of ways you could conceivably cause harm, but I’d rather hear about what the point of this character is given the dilemma of their position.
What is her purpose for the plot?
How is she designed to make the reader feel?
What literary devices are relevant to her portrayal?
(Arbitrarily, you can always add more than 1 extra Japanese character. I think you might put less pressure on yourself with this character’s portrayal if you have more Japanese characters to practice with in general.)
- Marika.
When Off-Setting: Aim for Average
Seconding the above with regards to this villainess’s story and your motivations for this character, but regardless of her story I think it’s also important to look specifically at how the Japanese teacher character provides contrast.
I agree with the choice to make her a regular person and not a superhero. Otherwise, your one Asian character is aggressively Asian-themed in a stereotypical Cool Japan way (particularly if her villain suit is samurai-themed & she wears wafu clothing every so often). Adding a chill person who happens to be Japanese and doesn’t have some kind of ninja or kitsune motif will be a breath of fresh air (well, more like a sigh of relief) for Japanese readers.
A note on characterization—while our standard advice for “offset” characters is to give your offset character the opposite of the personality trait you’re trying to balance, in this case you might want to avoid opposites. You have a villainess who is a cold, tough “don’t need no man” type. Making the teacher mild-mannered, helpful, and accomodating would balance out the villainess’s traits, but you’ll end up swinging to the other side of the pendulum towards the Submissive Asian stereotype depending on execution. If avoiding stereotypes is a concern, I suggest picking something outside of that spectrum of gentleness to violence and making her really boring or really weird or really nerdy or a jock gym teacher or…something. You’re the author.
Similarly, while the villainess is very traditionally Japanese in her motifs and backstory, don’t make the teacher go aggressively in either direction—give her a nice balance of modern vs. traditional, Japanese vs. Western sensibilities as far as her looks, dress, interests, values, etc. Because at the end of the day, that’s most modern Japanese people.
Sometimes, the most difficult representation of a character of color is making a character who is really average, typical, modern, and boring.
- Rina
