fiber arts are very dangerous because you knit one and a half sweaters and pretty soon you've got yourself thinking "yeah i could probably do that proverbial impossible task from that one fairy tale"

Scenes from yesterday 🥰
30nym challenge Day 7: Reflect on the past week. What went well and what went badly?
Honestly I’ve really enjoyed this week! Nothing went badly. The worst part was the commute to campus for a couple days, to tutor M1 students. What went well: I’ve had so much free time to exercise this week! It feels so good & it’s a privilege to be able to move and be active.

Y'all ever see a sweater that you instantly become Totally Normal about and then realize it's a 2.5K USD designer piece
I'm completely in love with this sweater. I swatched out the open work and got pretty close to the original (my double yarnover holes are more round than square but I'm ok with that. I also think they're slipping one of the vertical stitches in the decrease columns because I have one more stitch than they do for every repeat) I've never knit a saddle shoulder construction sweater tho so I would have to figure out the most optimal way to go about it.
This is certainly going on my "one day" project list mainly because I really would want to knit it in a similar colourway (or navy or dark brown) and fingering weight yarn. Which the only solid colour I have even remotely near of right now is a yellow and I'm pretty sure that still wouldn't be enough.
This isn't the first designer knit item I've ever looked at and said to myself "I could make that" but it is the first one that I've ever wanted to make. I'm not a sweater guy in either wearing nor making but I think this would be a good layering piece for formal wear which I just don't have right now. So even if I don't wear it often it would still have a use.

Okay, who had "Rhys buys a big, complicated piece of equipment they may or may not actually finish a project on in the next 2 years" for their 2023 Tumblr fibre arts bingo?

Because I just bought a 24" table loom lol.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go hand carve some shuttles from my cedar kindling supply, since I spent all my money on a loom and can't afford tools...

ouhhhh the neighbour doesn't have any supplies of her own for crochet and I'm teaching her and my mother today starting in just over an hour
and i am ... not selfish with my supplies but i am unemployed and living off a very tight budget (cannot purchase any more yarn for projects unless i manage to do some pretty spectacular savings on my groceries for the month which is... not very doable) so I'm a tad worried she's going to be good at crocheting and want to Make Something with the yarn that i do have fjdskl and I would normally be totally fine with that but considering there's basically nowhere in town to buy yarn (i've had to buy online) and shipping is $20+ lately, that's not exactly a great thing for me right now 🧍‍♂️

So I made a bit of an oops... I checked out the yarn at the thrift store today. (I have no excuse. It’s not even near the knitting needles these days, so I can check those out and not look at the yarn, if I want to exercise self restraint.)
For $12 I got 6 x laceweight in what feels so much like 100% wool that I haven’t even done a burn test yet. 2 ply. Each ball is between 45 and 55g. Lovely colours.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I assume it’s not washable, so I need to take that into consideration with what I make and for whom. (i.e. not the kids.)

ended up frogging my embarassing second attempt at a sweater because i hated it so now i'm starting again but following a pattern this time. i did this for sewing too where i started out wanting to just do things my way then realised i had to stop and learn first and then i could start winging things. it's going to be the same for crochet and i enjoy it too much to let it go

I made a lot of amigurumi during 2020-2022 it left me with lots of partly used skeins of yarn in random colours. So one of my yarn projects for 2023 is a scrapbuster project. I plan on making a Hygge Burst blanket to use up the awkward scraps I have with bits too small for normal projects.
This is a tiny bit out of my comfort zone as I prefer to buy and use yarn for specific patterns. Or plan out the exact colours and amounts I need so I don't end up with too much extra or short of yarn. A project that is all about just putting things together is a bit intimidating so make a pleasing end project without knowing what it will look like.
I am also making my first magic yarn balls to use up the tiny scraps that can't be used. Eventually they will be used for a project where I hold two strands together one a plain white or black with the multicoloured one.

It's that time of year again where I don't feel bad about buying discount yarn by justifying it as an birthday present to myself.
At least this time I had a strong idea of how I was going to use everything I bought. Keyword "had", now that I can see the yarn in person I'm not feeling as confident.
The orange hanks (Koigu Premium Merino in colourway 1113) look really good on camera but is much more peachy in person. Which isn't to my taste and not what I expected. I'm no longer sure what I want to make with it, probably something either purely practical (like a knee/elbow warmer) or a gift for someone, maybe a colourwork cowl? Or a hat for my dad to keep in his car during the winter time
The blue skeins (Paintbox Socks in Kingfisher Blue 1434) are a little bit more on me, I expected a lighter, brighter blue and didn't do enough research to double check. It's still very pretty so I'm not too disappointed, but I had planned to knit a shawl with the paintbox, the more teal blue hank (Cloudborn Fibers Superwash Sock Twist in Lagoon), and the light grey hank (Cascade Heritage Sock in Grey 5660). I still think there's a project in there somewhere, but I'm not happy with both blues together.
I've been trying not to just buy yarn because it's pretty and only buy when I have an actual project in mind, I have a big enough stash that I don't need to add more to it (arguably i need to give some away/donate it/sell it, a lot of it does not spark joy anymore now that i know what i like to create). Hopefully it doesn't take long for me to figure out what I would like to do with them.
