For the request I was wondering if you could do the ASL boys confessing to their childhood friend that they've had a crush on:) and if it's not too much could you add shanks as well?? It's okay if not!

A/N: Some of these are kind of subtle, but I think subtle is their way of confessing after that long :) Characters: gn reader x Ace, Sabo, Luffy, Shanks CW: Marineford spoilers Total word count: 873

From Friends to Lovers

Ace

“She looks like your type,” you mumbled, nudging Ace. A girl at the end of the bar had been eyeing him all night.

“And how do you know my type?” Ace asked, raising his eyebrow at you. He was slurring his words just slightly; enough for you to know he was drunk.

“Please. We’ve been friends forever, and we’ve sailed together for two years. I know what kind of girls you go for.” You laughed, pushing down the jealousy that churned in your stomach.

“You must not,” Ace said, leaning his head against you. "I'll stay right where I am."

“Go talk to her,” you urged. “It’s not doing you any good being by my side.”

He frowned at you. “What do you mean? I’m already sitting next to the hottest person in the bar.”

You rolled your eyes and gave him a playful shove.

“I’m serious.” He had a newfound urgency in his voice. “You’re the only one for me. You’ve always been the only one for me.”

Your heart skipped a beat. There was no way he could be serious right now. He was drunk and stupid.

He saw the bewilderment on your face and gave you a goofy grin. “Are you just now realizing I’m head over heels for you?! I thought I had made that obvious from day one!”

Sabo

You stared at the man before you, unsure how to react. He looked like Sabo. He definitely acted like Sabo. Even his name was Sabo. But it had to be a coincidence.

“No,” you said. “Sabo died. Sabo died a long time ago.”

“There was this one winter day where we went sledding,” he said. “We raced Ace and Luffy down the hill a hundred times. They kept trying to beat us, but they never could. And then Dadan made us go inside and gave us hot chocolate and let us all sleep together in one big bed that night because it was so cold. I said it was the best day ever because we got to spend it together.”

Tears filled your eyes as he spoke. “You died,” you whispered again.

You were talking to a ghost. You were afraid any moment you’d wake up and be left alone again. Just like when he had died. Just like when Ace had died, and Luffy had disappeared.

“I lost my memories from the head injury and was taken in by the Revolutionary Army. I only remembered after I saw the headlines about…”

“Ace,” you whispered, tears spilling over. It still hurt to think about.

“I’ll never leave you again,” he promised. “Come back with me to the Revolutionary Army. We’ll keep you safe. I want to hear about everything.”

“Sabo-”

“Please,” he begged. “I know I just remembered you, but my heart has ached every moment we’ve been apart. I just found you again and I’m starting to feel whole. Please-please don’t leave yet.”

Luffy

“Heeeeeeyyyyyyy!!!!” Luffys voice rang out from above you, and you instinctually braced yourself.

He slammed into you, sending the both of you falling to the ground. You screamed out in glee as rubber arms wrapped around you, holding you tight.

“It’s been a while, Luffy!”

“I can’t believe it’s really you!” He shouted. “What are you doing here?”

“This is my home, idiot!” You laughed, trying to squirm out from under him.

Moving away from his grip was proving to be quite difficult though, considering Luffy’s body weight was on top of you, his arms still tightly around you to prevent you from moving.

“Your home was Windmill Village. I’ve missed you since you left.”

Tears filled your eyes, and you suddenly enjoyed his closeness “I missed you too, Luffy.”

“Sail with me and my crew,” he said, pulling away slightly to look in your eyes, begging you with his big, dark eyes. “I want you to join me.”

You raised your eyebrow. “I have a life here, Luffy. I can’t-“

“Make a life with me!” He whined. “Come on!!”

“You still want to be King of the Pirates?”

“I can only do it with you by my side.”

Shanks

A red-haired man sat down next to you in the bar, glancing your way.

“Come here often?” he asked, sliding your favorite beer over to you.

“Only in town for the week.” A smile danced across your lips. “My pain in the ass captain has us on a tight schedule.”

Your heart skipped a beat at his jolly laugh, the room brightening as his voice echoed through it.

“He sounds like tough work,” Shanks said, wiping a tear from his eye.

“He is!” You took a long drink of your beer. “I’ve been sailing with him my whole life, I think I would know.”

He smirked. “And you’re not tired of him yet?”

“Nah,” you chuckled. “I could never get tired of you.”

Your words caught up with your brain, and your cheeks turned a deep pink at the realization of what you had said.

“Good, because I’ll never get tired of you either. ” Shanks gave you a softy, gentle smile and cupped your cheek with his hand. “So you’re stuck with me for the rest of time, okay? You’re all mine.”

“Of course, Captain.”

Playing Minecraft with the first year gang

Ace

This little shit would most likely be one of those players who would switch his game to creative mode if he's struggling in survival mode.

100% will not go to sleep at night just to piss off everyone in the server.

Tried fighting an iron golem with epel just because he thought it would make the villagers panic but ends up dying. Yea he's not going to try that again.

Deuce

Yeaaaaaa he's the type of player who dies super quick "Oh hey this is a pretty spawn- " *Deuce_Spade tried to fly, but failed*

I honestly think that he's the type of player that's scared of bridging.

Loves feeding the bunnies. He's always wanted one.

Epel

Honestly really enjoys it. He a farm boy so yea. "Man if had this here 'bone meal' back at the farm, sure would've made our stock's grow ten times more!"

As I said before, yes he does try and fight an iron golem with Ace but not to piss off villagers, it's another one of his "Manly tests" but LOL he does end up dying with Ace.

Out of everyone he builds the best anything hands down.

A devil fruit user with the ability to steal a persons dreams/ambitions steals Luffy’s dream to become the pirate king. This leaves a despondent Luffy who doesn’t believe in his or any of his crews dreams (their dreams have become part of his) the crew is left to get his dream back.

Kaya - Syrup Village to Drum Island

Zoro’s arc

I really wanted a Zoro arc. Where his old sensei contacts him about needing Wado Ichimonji (to defeat an enemy that can only be cut by one of the 21 great grade blades) Zoro has to return but he hates leaving the crew. He tells Luffy (there’s no way he’s leaving without an explanation) and Luffy is not letting him go alone.

There are many twist including old memories and new knowledge (maybe Kuina’s death wasn’t an accident)

Big Zoro feels, his relationship with the crew and some Zolu (cause I can)

Nika cult

A Nika worshiping cult wants to bring Nika back to the world, to do this they have to kill Luffy. They almost succeed, Nika takes over to keep Luffy alive. Now it’s up to the crew to find away to save Luffy. But it’s so weird to travel with Nika. Who knows them, because Luffy loves his crew, but Nika is not Luffy. So it’s like hanging out with your loved ones friend you never met.

Sun god and king of hell / madoka magica fusion

If you’ve watched Madoka Magica you know. But Luffy loses himself to Nika. Maybe to save the crew of maybe the whole fleet, but Luffy’s no longer in control. Zoro truly becomes the king of hell and uses his power as Asura to block Nika’s influence over Luffy, allowing Luffy to be Luffy. But every now and then Nika tries to break free.

This involves a lot of rearranging of cannon events. But basically Shanks realizes that Luffy is living alone and promises him the next time he comes to Dawn island he’ll take Luffy with him. Love is something magical. You didn't know when you fell for this man. As long as you remember, he is the only man in your heart.

You first met him when you were wandering around in the forest where Ace's and his brothers' treehouse was. You were in the village nearby, and you loved to sneak into the forest when you were a kid. One day, you saw three kids taking down a huge tiger. You got scared at first, but you decided to approach them for the better or worse.

Sabo and Luffy quickly became your friends, but you still remember the cold shoulder Ace gave you on that first day. He didn't want anyone else besides his brothers. You were just an intruder to him.

As time goes by, you make it your daily routine to sneak out of your home and go play with them. You weren't as athletic as them, so Ace always said rude things to you. Luffy was in his own world, and Sabo was the only one who helped you.

But when something dangerous happened, all three brothers protected you as your own personal bodyguards. Even though Ace had been rude to you, he never let anything happen to you. Even though he didn't admit it, he cared about you secretly.

With time, you became a part of them. That's when an uneasy feeling started to grow on you. Even though many people give you compliments or good comments on things, none of those touched your heart as Ace's awkward and simple "...Thanks, I guess."

Little by little, Ace started to become a polite boy with Makino's teaching. That only made things harder for you. When he said polite things and treated you with manners, your heart started to beat like crazy. You had to hide those feelings and act normal in front of him, which was so hard to do.

When Ace turned 17, he left the island to become a pirate. You vividly remember the way he happily waved his hand at you and everyone when he left in his boat. You were happy for him. He wanted to become a pirate since he was little, so you were really happy for him. But... the feeling that he was no longer with you... hurt so much that words had no power to describe it. It was... so lonely...

But after some days passed, you decided to get back on your feet. He followed his dreams. So you also wanted to follow yours. You knew that you would meet him someday. So, until then, you wanted to work on yourself.

But he was always in your heart. There was no space for anyone else.

Every day you read newspapers, hoping to catch something about Ace. You were so proud and happy to see how he became a well-famous pirate.

After some years passed, you had to go to another island for your work stuff. When you were passing by a restaurant, you heard a commotion.

"Is he dead?"

"Yeah, I heard he was eating when that happened."

"Oh god..."

People were talking about something, and you were curious. So you peaked inside the restaurant, and your eyes widen when you see the man with the tattoo on his back who is now sleeping on his plate.

"A-Ace," you whispered to yourself in surprise. You quickly ran to him.

"Ace... Ace wake up."

You grabbed his shoulders and shook him.

Suddenly, he sat up straight. Everyone got silent.

"Oh, sorry... I slept," Ace said without care in the world.

Everyone in the restaurant was shocked.

"Geez... You haven't changed a bit." You couldn't help but chuckle.

Ace didn't recognize you first. He suddenly grabbed your dress and wiped out the food on his face. A scream came out of your mouth. You blushed head to toe, and you grabbed your dress back from him.

"hmm?..." Ace looked straight at your face, thinking hard. "Do I... know you?"

You collect yourself and let out a sigh.

"Try to guess," you said with a smirk, and you sat on a stool beside him.

He looked at your face intensely, making many weird, confused, and thinking faces. Suddenly, his eyes widened.

"Y/n...?" He said it with a surprised tone. He is surprised and confused.

You got butterflies in your stomach when you heard him call you by your name. A bright smile appeared on your face, and you were so happy that he didn't forget about you. You nod repeatedly.

"It has been a long time... Isn't it?" you asked with a smile.

He suddenly grabbed your hand and pulled.

"Run as fast as you can," Ace whispered to you, and he ran out of the restaurant, pulling you along with him. After getting out of the door, Ace shouted, "Thank you for the food" and chuckled. The owner followed to catch you two cursing loudly for not paying. But you and Ace managed to ditch him. Ace slowed down the pace and stopped running. Then he turned around and looked at you. You were panting hard. Trying to catch your breath.

Ace chuckled and teased you, "Still, can't run. Huh?"

You got annoyed, but you didn't have the energy to talk back. You panted, hanging on Ace's hand.

He suddenly pulled you toward him and hugged you.

"Oh my god, y/n... I missed you so much."

You hugged him back. Feeling the warmth from him.

"You have no idea how much I missed you, Ace."

The hug tightened, and slowly both of you broke the hug.

After that, Ace took you to see so many places in the town. And went to more restaurants. Talked a lot. About the past, about Luffy and Whitebeard. He even showed you his devil fruit powers.

In the evening twilight, both of you came to the beach. You knew this was your only chance to tell him about your feelings. You collected all your courage.

"Ace..."

He was looking at the sea. He turned around to see your face when you called him.

"Hmm?"

For a few seconds, your eyes locked with his. Your heart was pounding so fast.

"What is it, y/n?" He was curious.

You looked away from his eyes. Hiding that you are flustered.

"Um... I- I have something... to tell you," you muttered.

"Hm? What is that?" He walked closer to you. That made your heart pound faster.

"I- I..."

You were so scared. You didn't know what would happen after confessing your love to him. Will he accept it? Will he get disgusted? Will he get angry? Will everything between you two get awkward? Will you... lose him?

Ace didn't rush you. He waited patiently. And yeah. Ace wasn't dumb. He got the idea of what this would turn out to be. He was also confused and lost in his own thoughts.

"H- have you ever seen me... as a... woman?" You slowly asked. But you still didn't have the courage to look at his face.

There was an awkward silence between you two.

"Y/N, do... Do you have... feelings for me?"

Your whole body heated up. You feel the heat in your ears.

"Um..."

The pressure made your eyes tear up a little.

You nodded slowly. "...yes, I... do." Your breaths were heavy.

"I... um... for a long time... I loved you, Ace. As long as I can remember, I... loved you." You took a breath.

"Everything. Everything about you. Not only your good things, trust me... I love every flow in you too... When I am with you... God... how do I explain this...? When I am with you... I feel... so safe, so happy, so excited... When I am with you... I just want to keep talking to you... And I just want to spend time with you... I am so in love with everything you do. Ace... I- I can't imagine my life without you. Everyday. Every single day, I think about you. You have no idea how much I care about you and how much I... love you." Your voice got weak when you said the last part. Tears fell from your cheeks while you confessed everything to him.

Ace listened to every single word you said in silence.

"Y/n..." he finally woke his voice. But his voice was so painful.

"I... don't... deserve this... You can find som-"

You hugged him tightly without letting him finish. Ace was surprised and stopped talking.

"Don't ever say that... You deserve so many things. You deserve soooo many things, Ace."

Ace calmed down after hearing your words. He slowly hugged you back. His eyes got teary too. It's like at any moment he is going to cry like a baby.

He sniffed and said, "I love you too, y/n... I love you so much."

Both you and Ace giggled through happy tears while hugging each other.

You met him when you both were as young as seventeen years old. You lived in a small island where it was not a place for pirates to attack so the village you lived in was pretty safe to say. However that changed when a notorious pirates attacked your island near your village and to your luck; you were near that village when they attacked however you managed to get away and run in the forest to hide away from the two pirates as they fought. You heard that there was another pirate ship; the white beard pirates as the villagers called them but you bad no idea who they were.

You kept running deep into the forest looking behind every now and then to make sure no one was following you only to run into someone and falling on them with a yelp. Immediately you started to slam your fist on whoever that was earning few "ouch" "hey" "ouuchh" from that person before he grabbed both your hands and flipped you over. Your fighting senses kicked in and you started to scream at him to not hurt you. "Shhhh, stop it!" He placed on of his hands on your mouth to stop you from screaming, "there are bad pirates here husshh before they find us!" He said and pulled you off the dirty ground hiding both of y'all behind a huge tree. Just then few pirates showed up holding fire torches.

"Are you sure the girl when this way?" One of them asked and your eyes widened. Law pulled you closer to him Shieldaig you with his left arm while ready to fight with his right arm shaking in fear; he was new to his powers. You tried to stop yourself from breathing too loud as they men looked around but left few minutes later. None of you moved as Ace looked around to make sure they were gone letting go of you only to hear you scream because one of the pirates didn't leave. You grabbed on Ace's wrist as the pirates tried to pull you to him.

Ace was quick to pull you towards him at the same time he lunched on the pirate with his fire fist, and he didn't stop until the pirate was passed out. You were shaking in fear when Ace turned around his fist burning in flame giving you an opportunity to look at his beautiful features, his expression softening when he saw you scared, "are you okay? Did he hurt you?" He asked you and you hugged him crying. "You're okay?" You nodded and then looked at him, "are you with the good pirates?" Your question made him smile wide, and oh you fell for him then and there, "Yes! We are here to help, come on let's get you somewhere safe, I'm Ace by the way." You followed him holding his hand, "Ace" you whispered his name and you liked it.

It wasn't long before the white beard pirates beat the other pirates and your villagers asked the white beard crew to stay for a while for a feast to which they agreed and you had told your parents how Ace saved your life. Your parents thanked him over and over which made him blush.

The feast was amazing and it lasted for a whole week! In that week you had grown closer to Ace and you followed each other around everywhere; you showed him the island and he told you about his brothers and his adventures making you excited to do the same and find your own adventures but you knew that you had started to like him more and more everyday, and you knew that you were allowed to love just one person and you wanted that to be Ace; he was kind, sweet and gentle towards you, and you knew he liked you too because he won't stop blushing and smiling when he was with you. You had fallen head over heels for the young pirate. You tried to convince yourself that it was just a crush because he "saved you" but you knew it was a lie when it was time for them to set sail and you felt your heart break and eyes filled with tears as you hugged each other, "I don't want you to go Ace, I'm gonna miss you so much" you cried in his chest and you've never cried like this before. He cried with you, "I'm gonna miss you more, sweetie. I wish I could take you with me but I don't want you in harms ways, I promise I will be back." You sniffle as you pulled back from the hug looking at him, he whipped your tears of your puffy cheeks, "Promise?" You whispered to which he smiled wide kissing you on the cheek, "promise on my life," he pulled out one of his handmade bracelets and placed them on your wrist, "so you'll remember me everytime you look at it. And the next time you see me, I'll be stronger for you. You won't forget me won't you?"

You shook your head, "I can't forget you Ace, I'll always be waiting for you, please come back to me? Ace, i lov-" he placed his palm on your lips, and shook his head, "Don't say it now, I might not leave and if I leave after you say those words I'll go crazy without you with me." He whispered looking at you with love poring from his gaze at you.

You smiled to which he nodded taking your hands in his and kissing them over and over, giving you one last (dozens) of kisses on your cheek he said his farewell and kept waving at each other until you couldn't see the ship anymore.

It been six years and everyday you would think about Ace and not a single day goes by with you waiting for him to come back, you never lost hope that he might come back one day; your family and some friends had told you to forget him and that he may never come back because he was a pirate and probably started his own family by now, and that thought made you cry to sleep some nights.

It was a usually morning for you when you woke up and did your everyday routine and headed into the town for your work at the small bookstore with Ace in the back of your mind as you worked and helped few customers to find the book they needed. It was getting later in day when you heard the bell while you were fixing few books on shelf, "Welcome, if you need help please call for me," you said not looking behind at who it was as you placed the books on shelf.

"I need help to find my girl," the voice sounded familiar as you turned around to reply when you gasped at that same familiar hat. That smile, that beautiful smile that you prayed to God to see again. Your eyes widened at his presence, "What? Did you forget me?" He said, then smiled wide. You screamed before running to jump in his arms; he was taller and much muscular whilst you were the same. You cried, hugging him, and he hugged you tight, "I missed you, sweetie!" He whispered, making you cry harder. He placed you on the floor and looked at you, "Look at you, you've become prettier than ever. I missed your pretty face so much you have no idea." He said as he hugged you again.

"Ace, you are here, oh Ace! I thought you forgot about me." He pulled away still holding your arms, "forget about you? I've been thinking about you everyday since I left, I've gone crazy without you and I had enough! I couldn't stay out there without you, you are important to me than being a pirate, I wanna be with you, if you'll have me."

You smiled wide, "Oh my Gosh, Ace! Yes, I wanna be yours in every lifetime, I lo-" you stopped which made his raise a brow, and smiled at you, "Say it please, I've been dying to hear you say it!" You chuckled as you felt your cheeks warm, "fine let's say it together?" He suggested to which you nodded.

He bent lower to become face to face with you and you both said it together, "I love you." You hid you face behind you both hands right after saying it and Ace laughed pulling your hands away, "noooo, let me look at your pretty face, let me! Please." You removed you hands off your face and it was his turn to say it now, "I love you, u love you, I love you, and I will always love you, dearly, madly and deeply, I will love you forever."

You smiled at "Ace, I love you, I love you please don't you ever leave me."

"I won't think of it, I'm here to stay, sweetie. Hmm can I ask you something?" You nodded as he rubbed the back of his head, "Canikhiishhissyou?"

"Huh?" You titled your head at his incoherent words and he blushed hard before saying it again, "can I kiss you?" You beamed and nodded un excitement, you've been waiting for this since he left. He gently kissed you and you felt like you were melting in his sweet kiss, you groaned in annoyance when he pulled away which made him chuckle and kiss you again and again until you both were laughing and blushing. He brushed his fingers over your lips, "you have the softest lips ever, I love you and your lips." You chuckled and jokingly hit his chest because he won't stop making you blush.

Thank you for the compliment and the request! For the record, I haven't really interacted/heard a country accent that much in my life. So I don't know much beyond what Epel is like when he uses his accent. Sorry if it's not quite right or unrealistic. I can't even understand Epel half the time when reading his accent. But I did google countryisms and woah. I'm so lost but also very entertained

Ace:

at first he's intimidated

it takes his brain a few seconds to actually process what you're saying

but then he thinks it's great

he will think it's entertaining and love's to watch other peoples reactions

he may try to lightly provoke you because he finds your accent entertaining

if he hears you and Epel talking to each other with the accent he will try to follow along

he's most likely to actually understand what you guys are saying since he's a quick learner

he's gonna get real offended real quickly if you trash talk him

Ace doesn't mind as much that you're trash talking the others

Deuce:

also a little intimidated at first

he's heard Epel talk with his accent more than the others have so he get's a little bit of it

maybe every other word

enough for him to maybe piece together what you're saying if he really puts his brain to it

he thinks your accent is interesting, but won't try to make you mad intentionally

he might ask you what some phrase or word means so he can understand

when he hears you and Epel talking with your accents, he can tell you guys aren't saying something nice but he has no clue what you're saying

he can hear and feel the anger when you're talking

if he learns enough, he might actually start using some country phrases or slang when he talks

it's pretty funny when he talks all serious and then he uses some slang

when he hears you talking with Epel, he's keeping up with the conversation and actually understanding after a second or two

once he realizes you two are trash talking others he's pretty quiet about it

like he won't stop you two but he won't engage with it either

Epel:

he is really happy about it

you're really mad at this person and he's just standing there smiling

not intimidated at all

he already knows what you're saying and can keep up very well

we all know Epel isn't normally allowed to speak using his accent because Vil, but he's going to start using his accent more now that he knows there's someone like him

don't let Vil hear either of you

but he'll start using his countryisms when he talks normally too

all because he knows there's someone who actually understands what he's saying

when you get mad and start using your accent, he's joining in and is upset with you

that person now has two people saying weird things angrily at them

everyone around you two is lost

Epel loves to trash talk others with you with the accent

it makes him feel so free and kind of like he's back in his home village

Sebek:

he doesn't understand a single thing you're saying but he knows you're mad

as long as you aren't mad at him, he won't complain

if you are mad at him he's not really intimidated but he's also taking everything you say as a threat

be very careful with this

if somehow he thinks you're talking about Malleus then he is yelling at you and challenging you

not the type to ask you about what you're saying (he may ask Lilia later)

he makes internal guesses at what you're saying so it's a 50-50 chance he will see it as a threat

so when he hears you and Epel talking with both of you using your accents, he doesn't know what to think

if he hears you two mention anyone in Diasomnia he's demanding that you explain

he doesn't care about the other students tho

trying to forget about ace and luffy’s sudden confessions, the crew trudged onward into the desert. [name] was doing his best to not even acknowledge it, humming a soothing toon to take his mind off of it.

“say, [name],” vivi gently called out, making the man jump in surprise. she chuckled weakly at his reaction, assuming that ace and luffy really had him shaken up, “you’re always humming the same song? where’d you get it from? it sounds really beautiful,”

[name] grinned, the subject making him think of other things besides ace and luffy’s stupidity.

“it’s a song i learned from…my home island,” [name] grinned.

“windmill village?”

“oh, no,” [name] said, waving his hand, “someone taught me it where i was born and i just clung to it, i guess,”

vivi’s eyebrows furrowed, “didn’t you say you were from windmill village, with luffy?”

“i grew up there, but i wasn’t from there,” [name] said, rubbing the bottom of his chin, “now that i think about it, i spent more time growing up somewhere else — but that’s irrelevant! i made the most pleasant memories on windmill village, so i say i grew up there,”

“which sea were you from then?” vivi asked.

[name] shrugged, “i’m not really the greatest in…awareness,”

“oh, we know,” nami and sanji said in a monotone voice, the navigator physically shivering in fear as she thought of [name] not even properly navigating the seas before his time on their ship. and that was for 3 whole years! she was scared of his ability to stay alive, that’s for sure.

“oh, that’s alright then,” vivi brushed off the question, not wanting to make [name] too stressed in thinking about it, “the song sounds beautiful though,” she complimented, the grin on [name]’s returning and this time staying present.

“it is, right?! i love it,” he proudly proclaimed.

the rest of the walk was pretty silent, except for [name] and chopper’s whining of heat. that was a constant noise. zoro had hit [name] on the head to shut him up, but it only worked for about 3 minutes.

in the midst of [name]’s complaining of the heat though, vivi - who was walking in front of him, suddenly stopped when they reached the top of a slope.

“what is this ghost town?” [name] asked, looking at the princess, who was worriedly scanning over the terrain.

there was sign of a previous life having lived here, but now it was all dried out. the palm trees were drying up to the point they looked like they could be knocked over by a strong wind. the house were run down and decrepit, the stone of the walls crumbling.

“rain was always scarce, but even so, the city was able to manage by saving every last drop of rainwater it could,” vivi said, leading the group through walking into the “town.” [name] stayed close to her side, subconsciously. his eyes were carefully watching around them, as if waiting for something bad to heppen.

“but for three years now, not a single rain drop has fallen over this country,”

“three years?!”

“that long?!”

“i’d kill myself if i had to withstand this heat without any rain,” [name] said, fanning himself with his hand to cool off.

“don’t say something so insensitive!” nami shouted at him, shaking him back and forth, “since your more respectful brother is here, why don’t you try taking up after him in that sense?!”

[name] looked anything but pleased with her sentence, cringing as he turned his head away, “no, thanks,”

“but even without rain, what about the river we just crossed?” zoro asked, making the attention go back to vivi and not nami and [name]’s bickering.

“yeah, couldn’t they have just funneled the water from the river into the town?”

“the answer to that is up ahead,” vivi said in a grim tone. “but there was one city that got continuous rainfall no matter what - the city’s capital, alubarna. they called it the king’s miracle…until what happened later that day,”

vivi then explained that there was something called dance powder that was being used to artificially create rain. and with nami’s input on the topic as well, it was all beginning to make sense. whenever dance powder would be used, the rain would come down, but the country neighboring of whoever was using it would face a heavy drought.

“wait, vivi!!! that means your dad is the bad guy?!” luffy said, pointing a finger at vivi in shock. [name] was going to take care of him, knock some sense into him, but luffy was easily dealt with by sanji.

“of course, my father had nothing to do with it. but we even found sacks of the dance powder inside the palace, an obscene amount!”

[name] whistled, zoro saying exactly what he was thinking, “they even had people in the palace in on it, huh?”

“that’s terrible,” [name] said, making a tick mark of annoyance form on nami’s head.

“don’t state such obvious things!” usopp and nami cried out at the same time.

they all continued walking through the town, learning the tragedy that was befalling the kingdom. but then, there was a steady breeze going through the entire town.

[name] allowed himself to feel physically relieved at the cold breeze sweeping across the desert, but when he heard a low murmur, almost a singing voice, surround them, he became on edge.

he squinted about, trying to find or see if someone was really manually making that noise. when he looked around, turning in circles several times, he noticed that there was no one near them — it was only them.

“what if it’s baroque works?! have they been following us?!” usopp said, running to hide behind [name] and cowering at the supposed fear of someone following them.

“don’t be ridiculous, there’s no one here, guys,” he announced, trying to ease their worries, “no threat at all,”

“how are you so sure?!” [name] shrugged at nami’s question. thankfully, ace also chimed in to help support [name]’s case.

“it’s just the wind. there’s no danger,” ace said finally, “it’s just the wind blowing across the town and echoing off old buildings.”

“it’s as if…the city of erumalu is crying,” vivi said with a shaky voice, leaning into [name]’s side and ducking her head. he sighed in sympathy for her, rubbing up and down her back once more to ease her worry.

it seemed she was lucky in taking refuge in his side as well because there was a sudden strong wind that nearly knocked some of them off of their feet. [name] looked ahead, squinting to try and not let the sand into his eyes. his hold on vivi was strong, careful to not let her get swept off of her feet.

her arms wrapped around his waist and his arm around her shoulder. he kept her head down by resting it on the back of her head and she ducked into his chest to shield herself from the harsh sand.

in a couple of seconds, the wind had left them alone. they all watched in confusion as the breeze seemed to “twirl” away and then disappear. luffy seemed interested by something as he suddenly rushed in a different direction from where they were supposed to go.

“someone collapsed?!” vivi shouted, letting go of [name] in an instant and running ahead. everyone followed after her, luffy going off in his own direction with sanji and usopp going to fetch him.

when they saw what vivi was referring to, they all stilled. it was a dry skull that was resting in the sand, cloth surrounding it to indicate that it was an innocent civilian that had died.

[name] sighed, watching as vivi fell to her knees in fury and sorrow, “what have the people of this country ever done to deserve this?! to think, crocodile, one of the seven warlords, is in this country and prancing around as some hero when he’s the one pulling the strings! lying and manipulating the innocent people of this country!!”

the crew stayed silent, watching as vivi helplessly fisted the sand beneath her feet as a means of not blowing all of her anger out.

ace moved to dig into the sand a little bit, offering the princess a smile. she took ahold of the skull and gently placed it inside, trying to mimic a proper burial.

they were about to ask where luffy had gone before they saw and heard a building crash in the distance.

“tsk, he's acting like a child,” zoro said in disapproval.

“aren’t you like only two years older than him?” [name] asked, making the swordsman look embarassed.

“don’t remind me…someone as idiotic as that is close to me in age,” he said, putting his head down in supposed shame.

“vivi! let’s get moving now, i’m itching to do this!” luffy shouted once he rejoined the group, sanji and usopp in tow.

“let’s go to yuba, vivi,” nami cheerfully encouraged, making the princess stand tall to her feet and nod in agreement.

“i’m going to persuade the rebel’s leader to put an end to this. crocodile is the one responsible for all the calamaties, i’m going to tell the truth — and put an end to all this bloodshed!!” it seemed vivi had a very idealist way of looking at the situation.

zoro and [name] seemed hesitant about the plan, but nodded nonetheless. in [name]’s head, he finalized that no matter what plan vivi had, he’d be right behind her to hold her up and support her, should it fail. him and the rest of the crew shared the same sentiment, he was sure.

within minutes of hiking over the sandy dunes, [name] was close to passing out, luffy couldn’t stop complaining about the heat, and chopper was being dragged by zoro via sled.

“burning up…sweat won’t even come out,” luffy said, his tongue sticking out as he tried to lower his body temperature.

“vivi, is it really advised to wear this many layers in the heat?” [name] asked, slumped and deflated as he willed himself to walk forward.

“yes, it may be very hot right now, [name], but this is surely better than suffering a terrible sunburn later,” vivi said, trying to ease the man up, but it seemed he was completely fucked out by the weather to notice her gentle tone.

ace came creeping up behind [name] and immediately buried him in a hug.

“ace, i’ll kill you, i’ll really kill you,” [name] said, feeling himself burn up as he crushed him in a hug. ace backed off, but still kept his close distance with [name].

“what does it feel like?” the freckled man asked, looking at [name] in interest.

“like my bones are on fire, they’re gonna melt off and my inside will slowly get cooked by the immense heat they’re radiating. feels like there’s an oven inside of my body cooking me to a crisp,” [name] breathed out, making people look at him in wonderment.

“don’t be so creepily descriptive about stuff like that!” nami shouted, earning a glare from [name].

“just be thankful you don’t have to actually feel it!” he shot back, earning an intervention from sanji.

“don’t raise your voice at nami-san!!” sanji said, trying to kick [name], but was stopped mid air when [name] raised his hand.

“don’t raise your voice at me, either! piss blonde!” [name] shouted, slapping his hand in an opposite direction and sending sanji flying.

“guys, please, don’t fight, you’ll just waste your strength!” vivi shouted, seemingly talking to both [name] and sanji, as well as nami, usopp, and luffy - who were fighting over the water jug.

finally, the sun set across the expansive desert and the hot air became almost freezing.

[name] then took ace up on the offer he gave earlier, comfortably cuddling into his warm side and sighing in relief.

”alright, human furnace, make sure you keep this balanced - like this. this is perfect,” [name] sighed in gratitude, spreading his arms out as he let his back rest on ace’s chest. he shifted his body, very, very slightly so that one of his fingers could trace the lettering on ace’s chest, a soft smile on his face.

the freckled man stayed as still as a statue, not wanting to irk [name] even more with restless moving, and observed the crew in front of them with watchful eyes. ace made sure to hold [name] protectively close, very determined to keep him warm.

and despite [name]’s stomach being almost empty, he was able to fall into a short slumber, snoring gently as ace held him.

“it must be a real surprise,” vivi’s quiet voice whispered, chuckling lightly as she caught sight of [name]’s sleeping face. “i mean, luffy-san, i was surprised too, at first. maybe it’s the fact he doesn’t really act like a captain - or that normal pirate captains are respected by their crewmates. but just this afternoon, a simple drink of water caused that big fight,”

ace kept gazing at [name]’s sleeping face, smiling softly as he listened to the princess ramble.

“[name] was also a surprise to be around,” she said, making the pirate perk up at for what she had to say about [name], “i mean, his bounty is terrifyingly high and he’s got a terrible reputation all across the seas…but he acts just like luffy. so carefree it almost causes issues,”

ace smiled, almost blindingly wide, and shrugged, “that’s just how they are. luffy hasn’t changed a bit since he was a kid,” ace sighed, brushing a couple of stray hairs away from [name]’s face, “[name] hasn’t either, but to me that’s more of a relief than a worry.”

“what was [name] like as a kid?” vivi suddenly asked, not being able to hide her interest in the sleeping man. ace noticed this, chuckling as he saw her pale cheeks become a pale pink.

“you’re interested in [name], then?”

there was a pause before she shook her head violently, “no, not like that! not like that! i want to know more about him, though…” her voice trailed off, noticing the unimpressed look ace was giving her, as well as a knowing smile, “well, i’m interested in knowing more about him - only because i feel like he’s sees right through all of us,”

ace allowed her to continue, “the way he treats everyone…it’s like he knows what they’re thinking. it’s terrifying. it definitely was scary when he first came aboard the ship,” she said, remembering her constant fear that [name] was there only to assassinate her as the princess. “his true colors really showed through when nami got sick.

“he knew the burden on everyone’s shoulders and tried to hoist it all on his own, especially mine.” she grinned as she watched [name] stir in his sleep, “he really understood me in that moment and even made me a promise! like he knew all the right words to say and how to make you feel…comforted,”

ace laughed gently, squeezing [name]’s impossibly closer as he reminisced on their own childhood memories, “i know what you mean, he did the same thing to me when we were younger. he knew exactly what i was thinking and got me to feel better, even though i really wanted to hate his guts,”

there was a silence that passed over the duo, before vivi dared to speak again, “[name]…has a lot of stress doesn’t he?” as ace was about to interject, she continued, “i don’t want you to answer that — that’s more prying that i’d want to take part in. but, it’s obvious, that he worries so much about other people, on top of his own.”

she turned to ace, a look of determination on her face, “i know i’m causing him a lot of stress right now, but ace, i promise you and luffy that i won’t burden him much longer!”

the man looked at her in surprise, breaking into laughter once more, “don’t worry about [name], he’s strong! and besides, you think you’re burdening him, but really, you’re probably giving him more support than you know. as easy as it is for him to read other people, it’s hard to tell what he’s thinking, right?” vivi nodded her head, “but i can see it - he relies on you just as much as you rely on him. so don’t go talking about how you’ll ease his burden so quickly, it’ll probably only make him sad,”

vivi seemed shocked to hear the information, looking between ace and [name]. she seemed hesitant to believe his words, so ace jokingly added in, “don’t forget who i am princess, his lover, i know him best,”

she flushed at the sentence, making ace break out into more obnoxious laughter — happy to send the woman into another flustered state.

“ace, shut the hell up, you’re a better heater when your mouth is shut,” [name] sleepily scolded, lazily punching ace in the face to get him to quiet down, “ruining my sleep, i’ll kill you, i’ll really kill you,”

ace shrugged at the threat, vivi looking at the duo in amusement, “lover’s quarrel?” she asked jokingly, making ace nod his head.

“he’s got a stubborn attitude he likes infecting into other peop-”

“ace, i said shut up!!!” [name] shouted suddenly, pushing his palm into ace’s face.

vivi laughed at the sight and found it even more endearing when ace actually did keep his mouth shut, following [name]’s command.

she was very thankful to have both [name] and luffy on her side.

and just when [name] thought he could get some uninteruppted sleep, courtesy of ace and his warmth, he was proved very wrong when he was suddenly grappled awake.

“who the fuck-?”

“we’re about to get swept off by the sandstorm, just hide behind a rock,” ace quickly explained, knowing that if he didn’t speak fast enough, [name] would beat his ass.

“where’s chopper? nami? vivi?” [name] asked, looking around for those he was most concerned for.

ace chuckled, “chopper is with luffy, nami is with sanji, and vivi can hold her own — she’s the one who grew up here, y’know?”

[name] nodded, accepting the explanation and instead braced for the impact of the sandstorm. it seemed to whip all their belongings out of order, crashing sand in their faces and all around them.

by the time it had passed, the sun was now properly up in the sky, meaning it had passed in the early dawn hours of the morning. [name] yawned, moving the sand from his face and body as he got up.

ace went to check on luffy and [name] found his way over to vivi.

”come on, princess,” he said, easily lifting her up by the undersides of her armpits and carrying her out of the heavy sand, “let’s get to travelling now. that was a pretty shit alarm clock,”

vivi murmured a thanks, seeing as [name] was the one who very easily lifted her up. he shrugged, saying it was no big deal and then moved on to check on chopper. he saw that nami was in the careful hands of sanji.

without waiting much longer, the entire crew decided to get moving. luffy’s dumbass decided that whoever won rock, paper, scissors would be the one to haul the belongings (even though it should have been whoever lost) and then he ended up winning.

feeling pity for his captain, [name] took half the portion and carried it on his own makeshift sled as well.

“[name], you’re the only one who cares about me,” luffy said exasperated by the physical task, “thank you for helping,”

“don’t go making stupid decisions that get you stuck in stupid situations, stupid,” [name] scolded, smacking the back of luffy’s head.

“i will, i will,”

“you mean you won’t?!” [name] reiterated, making his captain nod in understanding, although there was a high chance the information went in one ear and out the other. “why do i have to be the one always giving you advice, luffy? shouldn’t you know these certain things by now, seriously?”

“ooh! you can be my adviserer,” luffy proclaimed.

“what the fuck does that even mean?”

”you’re the adviserer.” luffy repeated, once again saying the incorrect word (he meant to say advisor, but added an extra -er for no reason).

“luffy, stop rambling nonsense,” [name] said, brushing away the topic as he truly didn’t understand what luffy meant.

after some time, usopp finally spotted a rock and announced it to the group.

“rock up a small ways ahead!!!”

“for real?! [name], let’s go!!!” luffy picked [name] up and threw him onto the pile of stuff then used his two free hands to carry both of their sleds of luggage. [name] had to hold on for dear life in order to not fall off as luffy carelessly ran through the desert.

“fucks’ sake, luffy!!!” [name]’s echoed shouts were the only signs that he was still alive when luffy ran off, making the rest of the crew sweat drop in disappointment.

[ BONUS : based off of the new outro in the show <3 ]

it hasn’t been long since chopper joined the crew. and despite the rush to get to alabasta, especially now that nami was better, there was no denying they’d be in need of certain amenities.

for a majority of them, it was food, for nami, it was mainly shopping for material goods. so they anchored down in some unknown island, some of the crew was already in the local town to get some goodies, but [name] and chopper stayed back on the sandy beach they had landed on.

“are you excited, chopper? your first real adventure,” [name] grinned, hyping the small reindeer up for the journeys they would take together.

“i’m excited, but also scared…were you scared when you first set sail, [name]?” chopper asked. “you don’t seem like the type to be scared easily,”

“pft! i was dead scared when i set out to sea by myself!!” [name] confirmed, laughing with his entire chest. chopper seemed shocked to learn that, eyes wide and sparkling.

“what? what do you mean?”

“i mean i was so scared chopper, definitely worse than what you were feeling,” [name] said, wanting to uplift the younger one’s spirits, “it was dark when i set sail, i had to go in the middle of the night! do you know what the sea looks like at night?” chopper shook his head, noting that he often went to bed early, “it’s all black around you. pitch black! could you imagine, going out to sea, and the first and only thing you can see is pitch black?”

chopper shivered where he sat, shaking his head as he most definitely did not want to think about that, “did you really sail out at night?”

“would i lie to you?” [name] asked with a cheerful grin. “that was my first time ever setting out to sea by myself, i was scared chopper, so i understand why you’re on edge.”

[name] leaned back on the palms of his hand, basking in the gentle sun.

“it’s alright to be scared, chopper,” [name] finalized, “you’ve got me to watch your back anyway, so enjoy the sea! you left your island to seek adventure, right?! enjoy and don’t worry about anything!”

[name] pointed a thumb at himself, “i’m strong enough to protect you and then some,”

chopper’s eyes sparkled completely, jumping onto [name]’s shoulder and shouting at the top of his lungs, “i’ll be the greatest pirate doctor to ever sail the sea!”

[name] chuckled at his childish antics, but cheered in alliance with chopper.

unknown to chopper, usopp, nami, and vivi were silently watching from the bushes behind them and were grinning at the heartfelt scene.

“so that guy really does have a heart?” usopp asked with a teasing tone. admiration sparkled in his eyes, though, as he saw how easily [name] was able to uplift chopper's mood.

“[name]’s pretty cool, isn’t he?” vivi asked, her cheeks uplifting in a smile as she watch [name] easily interact with chopper and ease all his worries.

“a pretty cool idiot,” nami sighed, but she too had a fond look on her face.

chopper and [name] were now yelling their dreams of being out on sea towards the shore line in front of them, and the secretly hidden three crewmates behind them to hear.

Part 1 ---

Few days have passed by. As it turned out Carlos did have an extra room for her to stay at. First night she couldn’t fall asleep because of the fear of being tricked and raped or robbed or god knows what. So she was glad to see a note on the kitchen counter saying he went for a run and she could freshen up before he saw her.

She noticed how Carlos had a strict workout and food plan. On days he didn’t have plans they would cook together. Some hispanic songs playing in the background.

Every morning they went for a swim in the pool. Slowly she has started to understand the movements and with little practice she’ll ace it in no time. They had made plans to go swim in the sea again some day soon. But this day must be soon because in 3 days she will go away. Back to cold weather and slippery pedestrian paths.

“Hey, how was your run?” She was just finishing with breakfast. “Great as usual,” answered in an out of breath voice. “The food is almost ready.” Carlos nodded. He was staring. Actually his eyes were stuck on her every movement. He had started to daydream about morning when he could put his hands on her hips from behind and push her against the kitchen counter.

She waved her hand. “Carlos?” He shook his head. “Yeah, right. I’ll be right back.” He walked away. The cold shower had been the solution for days now. If only she would stay with him a bit longer.

“You take care of your health quite a lot. Don’t your joints start hurting with this much workout?” She was curious. And since they didn’t have much time left she had mentally said ‘fuck it’. Carlos sniggers at her comment. “How old do you think I am?” She blushed. ‘The worst thing you can ever do is to guess someone's age wrong by a mile.’ “Eeeh.. in your mid 20s?” To that answer Carlos shook his head. “Close but not really. Also, why should my joints hurt in my mid twenties?” She couldn’t look him in the eyes. “..I don’t know. You just seem to workout A lot.”

Carlos had almost finished with his breakfast. “Today we shall go to the beach. You still have a promise to fulfill.” She just nodded and stood up to put dishes away.

Walking down to the beach was peaceful. Streets were full of people and ice cream sellers. “After the swim it’s ice cream on me,” she babbled. Carlos would love it but the season was near and in a week he would also have to leave this little village to start testing the car. No extra calories were allowed. Although he wouldn’t mind watching her eat ice cream. If only he knew what to do. ‘Should I tell her about my true self? What if she changes like all of them?’

The young woman had noticed Carlos spacing out. He seemed to do it a lot more than before. “Carlos, do you have a driver's license?” “ A what now?” “You know, licensed to drive a car?” Carlos smirked. “Yes. Want to go for a ride?” he winked. She nodded. “I would like to see some countryside before I have to leave. Do you think you could squeeze it between your training plan?” Carlos was actually over the moon. He could show her his skills and maybe figure out how to see her again after her leaving. “Yes.”

Unknowingly they had arrived at the beach. The weather was perfect. It was sunny, the sea was calm and no clouds in sight. Only a lot of people were sunbathing.

This time they walked together into the water. She was a little hesitant but Carlos took her hand into his. Water got to their knees, then hips and a little further it was already to her breast and only to his middle. “Cariño, are you ready?” She let go of his hand and jumped fully in. Carlos right behind her.

She laughed “ I can swim! I can experience the sea like never before!” She shouted at the top of her lungs. Carlos laughed as well. “Yes, cariño. Yes you can. So proud of you.” She turned around, swam to him and hugged him as tight as humanly possible. “Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.” Carlos was little taken back but hugged her right back.

She looked him in the eyes. ‘If only I could kiss him.’ Carlos kissed her on the forehead. “Let's swim some more. The waves will be back soon.” She let go of him. Her mind was on something else. So was Carlos’s.

While Carlos was in the gym, she was packing for a picnic. She was working up the courage to ask him out. Or find out if he was in any way interested to see her again.

She did her make-up a little fancier than on an average day. Carlos had a hard time choosing an outfit and had to ask some help from a friend. Finally they were both ready. Carlos had been sitting on the couch when she walked in. His heart stopped a beat. ‘oh madre ayúdame!’ “I’m ready to go” Her smile reached her big joyful eyes. Carlos coughed. “Yes! Let’s go.”

She saw his car for the first time. She didn’t even know he had one, neither the less a sports car. “I think I have misjudged you.” Carlos started the car. “And why is that?” She looked around the car. “I mean, if you have a sports car then you must know how to drive. The question is how good of a driver you are.” Carlos said nothing but winked.

In the main streets he obeyed the speed limit but right after the ‘end of village’ sign he stepped on a gas. “Oh my god! Carlos! Slow down!” She held tight to her seatbelt. “You are going to kill us!” Carlos looked at her. “Don’t worry. I know what I’m doi-” She interfered “Eyes on the ROAD, for christ sake!” Carlos’s smile widened. She on the other hand was barely holding it together. ‘Oh god. I’m too young to die. I still have a movie kiss to experience!’ Like this wasn’t enough, Carlos added some more speed. “Carlos I swear to god if you won’t slow down I’ll never share a car ride with you again!” she cried. He laughed but eventually slowed down. “OK-OK. I’ll drive like a grandma.”

She was still out of breath and tried to calm her heart by closing her eyes. Carlos would steal looks to see how she’s doing. He got his adrenaline up which helped to make a decision. A decision he would soon fulfill.

There was a beautiful field full of wildflowers. “I think this is a perfect place to stop.”

He parked the car. When turning off the engine he looked at her. She had her eyes on the field. He would stare at her all the time if it weren’t creepy.

Carlos was carrying a picnic basket while she was walking around and occasionally stopping to take pictures. They decided to lay out the picnic just beside a big old tree. Carlos was laying out the planket when he heard a camera click. He looked at her. “What? It would’ve been a shame to not take a picture.”

They sat beside each other. Food scattered in front of them. She had taken the wine classes but Carlos filled them with orange juice. “Cheers!” After a little sip, she took out her film camera again. “Why take pictures on a film if we have digital cameras?” asked Carlos. She turned dramatically around and looked him in the eye. “Because! Imagine, you have to think out every detail for the picture to come out. And you won’t know how it came out til you develop it.” Carlos nodded. “Mind if I take a picture of you then?” She handed him the camera. “Sure.”

Carlos stood up, stepped a few steps back and pointed the camera to their little picnic with her in the center. “Smile!” he said. Her smile was genuine. When Carlos sat back down she sighed, “if only I could take a picture of us together on a picture.”

“So you're telling me you are almost 30?! You don’t seem to be even a day past 24. How is it that you are almost a fossil without looking like it?” “Fossil? I’m not THAT old. Besides, 30 is not the end of human life. It’s just the beginning.” She nodded, “Sure, Fossil.” Carlos attacked her with tickles. “Stop it you muppet! I’m not a fossil!” She had tears in her eyes. “Hahaha, Carlos! Stooop. I can’t take it anymore.” But he shook his head. “Not til you stop calling me that.” She tried to beat it but had to give up. “OK-OK! I won’t call you Fossil again… Dinosaur.” Just as Carlos had stopped, he attacked her again.

The sun was much lower than it had been on their arrival. A slight gust of wind had come. Flowers danced while butterflies tried to land on them. “Would you go out with me?”
