For the ask game, how about 001 for either fairy tail or fullmetal alchemist?

Fam, I couldn't decide, so I'm just going to do both XD. I'll separate them on different posts though, so here's the first:

Fullmetal Alchemist

Favorite character: Greed. 100% Greed.

Least Favorite character: Uhhh... General Ravens I guess? He was just a bitch (and not an interesting one) but he got what was coming to him so it's all good.

5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): Royai (Roy x Riza), Royai, Royai, and Ro— Okay so I'm biased towards Royai, but for realsies, it would be them, Maes x Gracia, Izumi x Sig, and definitely Winmail.

Character I find most attractive: *aroace start-up noises* ...low-key Hughes, ngl.

Character I would marry: Frickin Kain Fuery. Man’s just a nerd who loves dogs? I vibe with that. Just chilling with a bunch of rescue puppies and kittens and play video games or whatever. He seems like a thoughtful and chill dude.

Character I would be best friends with: Al. We would be snarky little shits together and befriend allll of the cats and team-up to be everybody’s support group.

A random thought: Al 100% has several named and cared for strays in East City. Fuery or Hawkeye probably care for them when the Elric brothers are gone. Ed has no idea.

An unpopular opinion: I don’t feel strong about this (and I don’t know if it’s could be considered “unpopular”) but I actually wanted a “power of friendship” ending to the series, in a way. Essentially, instead of Ed trading his ability to use alchemy for Al, after Hohenheim offers his life for Al’s, people start chipping in that Ed could use some of their life force instead of taking it all from Hohenheim. So it would be a call back to that time Ed used some of his life force to get out of being impaled, as well as a reflection of how Father made the homunculi. So instead of any one thing being traded, it would have been offered bits of dozens upon dozens of people that Al and the Elric brothers touched in some way, which also would have been a parallel to the philosopher’s stones (i.e. a mirror of the many lives for one method). So the culmination of “what is worth a life?” question would somewhat literally be all the different ways that life can affect others, represented just by little pieces of everybody else. I thought that would be neat. Though the somewhat tragic ending of Ed giving up his alchemy is also meaningful in its own way, so I’m not mad or anything. It’s just something I think about.

My Canon OTP: Roy and Riza, all the way. Very few ships make me actually invested in them, and they are one of the few. They’re so close and they trust each other wholeheartedly but also tease each other relentlessly. They’re friends and partners and the care they have for each other is palpable. The “ship conflict” isn’t about whether or not they will kiss or not, but rather, it’s just a matter of them vocalizing what they both know, and freaking surviving until the end of the manga. I just think they’re neat. A+ power couple imo. 

My Non-canon OTP: Uhh, I don’t really ship much at all in FMA (or many shows), but you know what? Heinkel and Darius. They got mad dad energy and they work well together. Yeah, I’m going with them. 

Most Badass Character: Ooo this is a tough one. There are lots of contenders, but it’s a close battle between Olivier and Riza. Olivier girlbosses gatekeeps gaslights stabs a man and cements over his body, but Riza is just an all around badass sniper and she keeps Team Mustang afloat. Yeah, I think Riza wins for sure, but shout-out to Olivier’s sheer metal and audacity. 

Most Epic Villain: Kimblee. Man wasn’t even involved in anything, he was just crazy, but in the most compelling way possible. He wasn’t random. He had some points. But he was just the incarnation of human apathy in a show about being driven by emotions and ambitions, and that was really interesting. 

Pairing I am not a fan of: Uh, besides anything that ships the kiddos with the adults, or siblings together, I guess I’m not a big fan of Al x Mei or Greed x Ling as ships. I like the friend synergy but it doesn’t feel deep enough to be a ship I guess? That and Greed is an adult imo so that’s just... mmmm noooo

Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): Honestly? I can’t think of anything. Arakawa out there slaying. 

Favourite Friendship: Now the friendship between Green and Ling is interesting. Greed’s the bad-influence big brother and Ling is the crafty young one that ends up teaching Greed how to have his cake and eat it too. They’re both on the same page low-key and they both use the other to learn how to care for people more? It’s just neat. The childhood friends dynamic of Ed, Al, and Winry is also nice. Like Al and Winry teaming up at Ed’s expense? Ed and Al being gremlings and Winry being responsible? Ed and Winry bantering and Al choosing sides at complete random? Classic. 

Character I most identify with: Winry, probably. She’s just chilling, focusing on her interests, and her friends pop in with problems without warning and suddenly she’s got to deal with it, but she loves her friends greatly and she’s not about ribbing on them. I get it. 

Character I wish I could be: Xiao-Mei. Oh, to be a smol panda, capable of rational thought but also not obligated to do anything. Jaws of steel. Can win fights and make grown men cry. Yeah.

favorite thing about them: (Edit: OH MY GOD I forgot to answer this one -screams- Okay I am fixing that now): He’s a fascinating character, and the strips/episodes with him vary from hilarious to serious. I also like the fact that he keeps all those journals chronicling his life (though sad headcanon time: I can see those being for his family and friends in case he does disappear for real someday.)

least favorite thing about them: Without getting too much into history...he's an ass, to put it lightly. I guess he could count as a 'problematic fave' for me, haha, XD

brOTP: he and Ludwig (naturally, his actual brother), and maybe him and Raivis (in modern times, for that one)

random headcanon: In modern times, he acts loud and boisterous a lot of the time so that he's acknowledged (whether that attention is positive or negative, he doesn't care). He wants the attention so that people are less likely to forget him; he's worried that if not only the humans, but his fellow nations too, stop thinking about him, he'll fade away and die for real.

unpopular opinion: Not sure how unpopular this is, since I haven't really explored his side of the fandom much, but, despite his bloody history, in modern day, he gives off the vibe of being good with kids.

random headcanon: (Due to his eyes being inconsistently colored in official art) His eyes are normally blue when he's calm and relaxed, but during times of stress/when he's sick/when he's angry or sad/etc. they change to purple. Yeah, he knows it's weird, and no, no other nation's eyes do this. Another headcanon I have is that, depending on his mood, his hands/body temperature is either cold or very warm. (As a reference to the 'land of fire and ice')

unpopular opinion: Not sure how popular or unpopular this is, but I see him as asexual (but biromantic). And for this second one, I haven't seen this around as much lately (thank goodness; I got annoyed whenever I saw it in like...2010/2011), but he doesn't hate Nor/the rest of the N.ordics. He just gets annoyed with them from time to time. But not genuine hate.

favorite thing about them: Almost everything, haha. (He is one of my all-time favorites from this series). I love how caring and concerned he is about the well-being of his fellow N.ordics (the best example of this is in the Halloween 2013 special, specifically the part where he has that conversation with the little girl). I also really like his design; I think he's aesthetically attractive and fun to draw, XD.

least favorite thing about them: Maybe that he can't read the room at times?

random headcanon: He has frequent nightmares (which was also shown to be canon in one of his bios, actually), and finds it very hard to sleep alone, even in modern day.

unpopular opinion: He's not stupid; he's actually very smart (and this was confirmed to be canon!); he just gets blunt with his words when nervous.

Should have seen this coming but Ashe aka the secret Schnee sibling/cousin from Overwatch

xD YES! For those of you without context, @sahriou here had a galaxy brain dream about Ashe being a relative of the Schnee family, which simultaneously makes no sense and all the sense in the world!

How I feel about this character:

Ashe is my wife, guys T_T. Okay but seriously, every now and then, a character comes along that reminds you just how frigging gay you are, and that’s what happened to me when Ashe was first introduced. I’m fairly convinced that if Ashe didn’t exist, I would have stopped caring about Overwatch entirely by this point, but now I’m even deeper in this fandom than I was before! 

All the people I ship romantically with this character:

I ship Ashe with everybody, as was established in the last ask. Including but not limited to:

Widowmaker: Because of that rich wlw aesthetic. Can’t really imagine them having a relationship, but can totally see them being friends with benefits. 

McCree: Romantically or platonically, I just love these two’s dynamic. Honestly, I can 100% get behind the idea of Ashe having been in unrequited love with McCree at one point in the past because I like feeling pain I guess. I mean think about it, there’s something undeniably sweet about a privileged rich kid becoming sweet on a scruffy farm boy. It’s essentially the classic princess and the stable boy story... but with more crimes involved. 

Hanzo: I originally started shipping this as a joke, like “what if Hanzashe became canon- no one would see that coming”. But then I realised that it doesn’t entirely not make sense? Like, they’re both people who deflected from their families in order to forge their own paths in the world, so that’s something. I actually have an unfinished fanfic lying around somewhere wherein Hanzo and Ashe meet in a bar and have a drunken bonding chat. 

(I also totally accept poly Ashe/Hanzo/McCree)

My non-romantic OTP for this character:

B.O.B: Ashe totally views B.O.B as her one true parental figure and no one can convince me otherwise. 

McCree: BFFs who do crimes together. What more could you ask for?

My unpopular opinion about this character:

I guess... that I like her??? The hate towards Ashe is ridiculous to me and I don’t want to deal with that anymore. I mean... it’s been almost two goddamn years, guys. Let it go! 

One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon:

I can only pick one?! Oh fine. Well, I want to know more about how she founded the Deadlock Gang. Who are the other founders and how did she meet them? What was her first meeting with Jesse like? How did she rack up that $65 million bounty on her head?

Crowley for that "Give me a character" post!

It’s been so long I posted that I had to think a bit to remember what you were asking??? xD But I did Aziraphale here (it was before the show so I skipped a question) so, fair enough!

Why I like them - A demon who hates hell and an angel who denies his own fall over and over again is a very interesting concept. I love that he knows who he is and denies bending to fulfill expectations for either heaven and hell. He does what he needs to keep himself alive, but Crowley is his own person; he’s not defined by being a demon as much as he wasn’t defined by being an angel. He’s a very human character and he knows it and owns it. I love how self-aware he is. And very selfless too. He’s probably the character the wilder range of emotions through all the piece (Crowley hopes, fights, screams, mourns, fears, lose hope, is lonely, brings life, is comfortable... I can’t remember another character who feel his feelings like him).

Why I don’t  - I joke that I don’t care for Crowley just because Aziraphale is my favorite but that’s a LIE I love him very much and identify a lot with him. Can’t think of a reason not to like him.

Favorite episode (scene if movie) - The scene where he brings the dove Aziraphale killed back to life in the book. The opening scene in the radio drama. The “I lost my best friend” train wreck in the show (fav. episode is 3 like literally everybody)

Favorite line - “Awwww. Have you seen me in a skirt?”

Favorite outfit - I’m a wreck for Disco Crowley for fun, but the sideburns and top hat makes me feel stuff. And... Nanny Ashtoreth *heavy breathing*

Head Canon - Crowley is a terrible dancer but he doesn’t know it.

Unpopular opinion - they’re ate least 6000 years old and imerse in human culture for millennia, I can’t understand how they could be virgins or even never have kissed one another before. I think they do, occasionally, even build actual romantic relationships with humans. But I don’t think they would be jealous about it, what they are to one another is truly beyond any human could comprehend. It’s cute in the whole soulmate “my only one” fic thing, but I don’t think it’s practical?

An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen - fat fetish and rape fetish Crowley makes me cringe very hard. Any portrait of Crowley as predatory, wicked or violent makes me cringe very hard, actually. And personally to me is entirely missing the point of the character.

First impression: The stereotypical “cool jerk”. I didn’t really like Sasuke all that much when he was first introduced because he seemed like the run-of-the-mill anti-hero, the perfect cool popular boy who ends up learning a good hard lesson. (Obviously that was fixed quickly enough lol)

Impression now: Well, you asked for it, my friend. So be prepared for a full analysis of my child! My take: Sasuke is a complex and detailed character whose drive to achieve his goals stands out almost more than Naruto. Up until he kills Itachi, it feels like that eight-year-old who watched his parents be murdered by his beloved brother is still stuck in Sasuke. He’s a complex character whose loyalties fluctuate like a pendulum; he’s full of raw pain and anger and sadness, all hidden beneath a cold wall he projects to the outer world. Sasuke is realistic and believable; all he has ever wanted is to bring justice. Even when he decides to destroy Konoha, it’s not just about him and what it did to his life. It’s about the world itself being corrupted by the village; it’s about revenge for his family; it’s about stopping what befell him from happening to others. All Sasuke’s ever wanted is a fair and just system that protects everyone just the same, and his ideals of right and wrong are black and white, even more so than Naruto. He believes firmly in “the ends justify the means”, and his thought process is a little childlike - as long as everything’s all right at the end, it’s doesn’t matter however you got there. Despite having been exposed to the harsh, unfair reality of the world, he still believes in right and wrong very strongly, and thinks that only by taking drastic action will the world change. Sasuke is willing to do things: he actively wants a better world, and will step up to do it himself, even willing to die “so the world’s hate will die with me”. He’s also a hard worker, which is what I absolutely love about him. Sasuke has inspired me many times to actually get on with my schoolwork instead of making posts about him XD “Oh no! I shouldn’t have stayed late to train at the Academy... Mother’s going to be so mad...”  This is, approximately, what he mutters to himself as he runs back home to find the dead bodies of his family. Despite being a prodigy and supremely talented, Sasuke does not slack - oh no, he works hard. He works and works and works, first to match up with Itachi, then to kill him, then to destroy Konoha, then to beat Kaguya... and then, because he can. Because he wants to be his best; he wants to be the best, and the only way he can do that is to work his ass off. Of course, Lee and Guy take the cake for geniuses of hard work, but Sasuke is among the top as well!  Sasuke is, emotionally, very realistic. He’s angry and sad because of an incident that screwed up his childhood, which many people sadly relate to. He negatively channels his rage into an obsessive focus on killing Itachi for his crimes, and keeps all his feelings bottled up for fear that he’ll collapse. All he wants to do is see justice in this cruel world, and he’s determined to achieve that goal, even if it means he’ll die for it. Sasuke lashes out in ways that aren’t very positive, keeping up a cold and calm exterior to hide the emotionally torn mess he is inside. He tries and tries and tries to heal, and each time all the progress he has made is brutally ripped away from him by the reopening of old wounds.  Final take: Sasuke is detailed and complex and deep, and he deserved better.

Favorite moment: Every time he appears on screen. No, I’m serious! Ok but if I had to pick - riding Aoda. He looks so good in that scene, and I love his dynamic with him! Aoda is so cute, and I just love Sasuke’s whole snake aesthetic. I really like that he has a familiar, and there are so many cute Sasuke-and-Aoda bonding moments that could come out of that! (Sue me, I’m a closet Slytherin XD)

Idea for a story: Um, I’d say Sasuke being a lie detector but I already wrote that story, and my Mafia!AU headcanons are already up, so I’ll list one that’s been stewing in my head for a while. It’s a bit generic, but eh... I like it XD Sakura Haruno and Sasuke Uchiha rule the school. Everybody loves them - they’re smart, kind (well, in Sakura’s case at least), good-looking, athletic, the perfect power couple... And gay as all hell. Yep, you read that right. Sakura and Sasuke are best friends, more like siblings, and pretend to date so people won’t constantly bother them. But when Sakura’s longtime crush Ino Yamanaka brings her adoptive brother Naruto Uzumaki to Family Day... well, all hell breaks loose. What else did you expect when Sasuke’s around Naruto?

Unpopular opinion: Sasuke is a better character than Itachi. I personally feel that Itachi is misguided and all too “goody-two-shoes”. Sasuke shows a realistic side that the audience can identify with; Itachi was made out to be some kind of martyr, whereas he could have definitely avoided torturing his “beloved” brother for three days in genjutsu. I do love Itachi and Sasuke’s bond, but canon Itachi just doesn’t cut it for me. I also never got the whole “owo Itachi’s hot” thing - idk, he looks like a stressed old man to me. Sasuke’s character design was made to be hot XD

Favorite relationship: It’s totally not SNS. Yeah, totally. (Ok, yes, it is.) See, Sasuke and Naruto’s dynamic goes way beyond just friends. When on the genin team together, Sasuke trusts Naruto, the dead last, more than Sakura, who’s the smartest in the class. (Sakura haters, please leave. I only ever praise her, so you won’t find any bashing.)  ANYWAY back to why I love SNS! Naruto is the first to really acknowledge Sasuke without comparing him to Itachi like the teachers and his family, or going gaga over him (well he does do that later, but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it haha). Naruto sees Sasuke as a rival, and acknowledges that Sasuke is intelligent and powerful, and a person whose skills he can look up to. Naruto and Sasuke round each other off perfectly - Sasuke inspires Naruto to work hard, and Naruto inspires Sasuke to be himself, without the context of Itachi or the Uchiha name. 

Favorite headcanon: Sasuke likes to dance in his free time. He knows how to waltz and even breakdance, and if he’s feeling down he’ll slam the radio on and get moving!

Unpopular character you love? 

1. 

Hmm I don’t really dislike any HxH characters (as characters - separate from how I feel about them as people), but Chrollo is a bit overrated. He replaces Leorio as the fourth person in a lot of merch, proving his overall popularity in the fandom at large (not necessarily on this site), but his character doesn’t have much depth in-series.  Maybe the depth is implied?  I think he’s the poster boy for “fake deep” and I don’t believe his motivations go any further than enjoying the cat and mouse game and striving to gain the upper hand by whatever method is convenient.  He’s just a character in a heist movie, basically. 

On the other hand, whenever someone asks me a personal question I don’t wish to answer, Chrollo’s  “perhaps that is the key to understanding myself?” non-answer to the question of why he kills people comes to mind, so that was some stellar bit of writing there.  

2. 

I like all the arcs of HxH and dislike the obsession within the fandom - especially on reddit - of ranking them.  XD.  However it’s objectively true that the early part of the Chimera Ant arc, when Killua and Gon split up and Killua is killing random ants and Gon is fighting Owl and Bat, is a nadir for the series.  This is right around when Togashi started complaining in the author’s notes about his back pain and before he started taking the long breaks for which Hunter x Hunter is now famous, so I think he was just getting burnt out at the time.  

If you divide the Chimera Ant arc into Before the palace invasion and After, the Before part is way too slow and tries to shoehorn in too many shounen troupes – training arcs when the characters are supposedly on a time limit, one-on-one battles to show character growth but the opponents are randos and the battles don’t have any stakes for the story – that don’t fit the overall tone of the arc.  

3. 

Easily, the last two chapters of Part One of Hunter x Hunter - leading up to the scene where Killua and Gon part at the World Tree - needed to be better paced. The fandom is still arguing endlessly about whether Gon is evil or whether he needs to apologize because chapter 338 is too rushed. 

…To be clear, I don’t have a problem with the content of these chapters and think it was a stroke of genius to separate Gon and Killua for the end of the anime, and then leave the readers hanging for two years before continuing the story in the manga. This traumatized the readers so much that some of us are still debating the meaning of it all and writing fix-it fic 10+ years later.

However, I think it’s pretty notable that even in the volume release where Togashi cleans up a lot of his sketchy art, these two chapters are still sketchy.  I think the stakes got too high and the writing got too forced, leading to some unfortunately choices, so that it was hard for Togashi  to revisit those chapters.

Here’s a short list of ways that these two chapters are almost comically unsatisfying:

1a) In chapter 337, freaking **Koala** has a 10 page monologue that’s straight outta a Quentin Tarantino / Guy Ritchie movie.  Who cares about the generic angst of a minor ex-criminal who is only memorable due to good character design? In that same chapter, we get 5 pages for Gon show up to NGL, make his apology to Kite, then immediately leave.  Even though Gon’s apology is short, it still feels padded (a whole panel for Gon to wave hi, another whole panel for Gon to wave bye…) & the only new information is that Gon definitely knows he is still alive thanks to “Killua and everybody else”. But that was kinda obvious?

1b) Compare with Gon apologizing to Killua & being told that he is still alive thanks to Alluka, two things that were almost excessively set up by Togashi (as both Gon and Killua had previously & separately come to conclusion that Gon owes Killua & needs to apologize). We get 5 pages for ALL of that, including exposition about the height of the world tree. Couldn’t this have easily been a whole chapter? Even if it was just gonna be a lot of shots of the two of them being awkward about it.

As for what I would have done instead:

2a) Ditch Koala, or at least shorten his generic ex-criminal professional bullshitter monologue. Put Gon’s apology to Kite and his apology to Killua in the same chapter to thematically contrast them. Allow the character to have some growth by letting GON bring up the apology first - I know it was a big moment for Killua to realize he needed to ask for this, but he got plenty of character development already, it won’t kill him to share the character development spotlight with Gon in this one case.

2b) Then, we can have a bit more space in the next chapter for the revelation about Allluka (too late for Gon to do anything about it), and for Gon to meet Ging at the world tree. Cause I really think the page limitation & Togashi’s tendency to put more than one plotline in each chapter unless he is doing, like, some conceptual stuff (see: Gyro’s backstory chapter) is the issue here.   I know HxH has a reputation for anticlimatic endings and surprising choices for what to offscreen – and endings are really hard to get right – but c'mon, this is like ridiculously rushed! Just draw it out to two chapters, man, the readers are not gonna complain.

This will probably be my only even slightly controversial answer, but I really enjoy Palm Siberia as a character.  Yes, she’s a harmful stereotype of an hysterical woman.  Yes, she is creepy for trying to date Gon.  Yes, her main purpose in the narrative is to try to date Gon, thereby making Killua jealous and making the readers go hmmmmm maybe  Killua’s interest in Gon is also romantic?   

What I enjoy about her is the same thing I enjoy about Shoot - these characters show that strong nen users come in all different types.  They can be cowardly and have all kinds of serious personality flaws, because all you need for strong nen is to have strong resolve.  Nen is a value-neutral power system, not just in terms of whether the characters are moral or not… but also in terms of whether they are mentally strong or not.  For example, Hisoka, Chrollo and Illumi are evil but mentally strong; on the other hand, Shoot and Palm are not evil but they are neurotic messes, at least at the start of the arc.  However, that doesn’t stop them from being strong nen users because nen responds to your emotions and people can be weak in some ways but strong in others.

Also, I enjoy that after she becomes a Chimera Ant, she looks like Killua’s mom. XD.  And yet despite this - or maybe because of it? - he ends up confiding in her and considering her a friend by the end of the arc.  In fact he confides in her the moment she resembles his mom the most + is trying to kill him.  Hashtag what does it all mean.

Samekichi :3 (or Envy from FMA. Or both, do both heheheheh)

You knew I couldn’t choose either or, so you make me choose both. YOU PLANNED THIS DIDN’T YOU. XD This one’s pretty long so under a cut it goes! 

Samekichi: 

favorite thing about them: The fact that, when you initially meet this character, you THINK he’s going to be the stereotypical gruff, misunderstood, broody love interest - and to a degree, he is. But then you really get to know him, and it turns out he’s actually SUCH A HUGE breath of fresh air in terms of male characters / love interests.He’s extremely emotional. He wears his heart on his sleeve, and though he tries to put up the front of being gruff and uncaring, cares SO MUCH. He is shown crying, shows weaknesses and vulnerability. He quickly comes to terms with his feelings instead of waffling around them, and openly discusses them with characters like Nekoyama, and to a degree, Irena. He confesses that he’s in love with Wadanohara, and when he realizes she misunderstood his confession, doesn’t take it to heart: he recognizes she’s not in the same place emotionally as him and doesn’t try to needle her into feeling the same way. He’s not the strongest physically but NEVER lets that stop him from fighting to protect his loved ones. And by living with Wadanohara, he begins to recognize his flaws and, rather than pretend he doesn’t have them, actively starts working to become a better person.I JUST LOVE HIM A LOT OKAY???

least favorite thing about them: I really wish that the original game and manga had done a better job of explaining exactly WHY he didn’t reveal the truth about Sal to the kingdom. I understand the concept, but the execution (like almost everything else in this franchise) could have been polished a lot more. 

favorite line: His confession monologue during the True Ending reduces me to a blubbering mess every. goddamn. time.  

brOTP: Tarako/Samekichi! It cracks me up how Tarako sees RIGHT THROUGH Samekichi’s gruff edgelord persona, and how accepting they are of his true nature. I also really admire that, out of the ENTIRE Sea Kingdom, they’re the only one whose faith in Samekichi doesn’t waiver no matter what. I also love how Tarako eventually wears down Samekichi’s defenses and he comes to accept the little guy into his life.

OTP: Samekichi/Wadanohara. Hands down. No contest.

nOTP: Samekichi/Idate and Sal/Samekichi. The former doesn’t bother me as much as the latter does. 

random headcanon: Samekichi is left-handed. (Compared to my headcanon about Fukami, this is so short it’s embarrassing XD)

unpopular opinion: I wish more people focused on the idea of them building a loving, happy life built on mutual respect and love than just the idea of them banging all the time. Yes, it’s hot, but sex isn’t and shouldn’t be the only thing that defines their relationship.

Envy: 

favorite thing about them: I honestly can’t explain WHY I find Envy to be one of the more fascinating villains in this series. I think nowadays I would rank him my second favorite homunculus (after Greedling), but for the longest time, they were number one. Maybe it was that they had a good dose of comedic moments to combat the more serious, severe ones? Maybe it’s the emotional catharsis of seeing them constantly berate humans and then constantly get their ass handed to them? Maybe it’s that they’re just a little shit and I find them incredibly fascinating as both a study in villainy and a contrast to the protagonists?It could also stem from the fact that envy and jealousy is a rather difficult emotion to build an entire character out of, but Hiromu Arakawa pulled it off so perfectly in how they wrote this character. 

least favorite thing about them: I was never crazy about how their story arc ended in the 2003 anime. I think they could have taken the “forgotten son” plot device and either scrapped it OR made it more interesting and compelling. I also think 2003!Envy was WAS too overpowered. 

favorite line: oh my god there’s too many. XD The first that comes to mind is probably (in response to Edward asking who they are): “Well, that depends, I can be whoever you’d like. So who would you like to be, Mister Fullmetal Pipsqueak? Hm, how about a taller version of you?”

brOTP: Envy/Lust/Gluttony. The original homunculi trio had the best interactions. I also was surprised by how much I wanted more scenes of them interacting with Mei, Lin and Lan Fan in and out of combat. (Especially while he’s stuck inside that mason jar, heh.)

OTP: Eh, y’know what, I used to be ashamed of the fact I shipped Edward/Envy, but honestly I have a lot of good memories from when it was my hardcore ship and from interacting with others who shipped it that I’ll admit: it’s still a guilty pleasure. XD it makes zero sense but it brought me a lot of joy at one point in my life, so who cares??

nOTP: On that note, nowadays I don’t really ship them with anyone anymore? They honestly are too dangerous to pair off with anyone, and that’s not the point to their character. 

random headcanon: Due to their heavy body mass, Envy doesn’t fair well in water. They sink like a rock.

I believe that Bloodborne’s setting and lore issomewhat connected with Dark Souls. Bloodborne’s story takes place centureslater after the events of Dark Souls 3.

Adding Ornstein as a summon for Kalameet. I stillmissed him in the DLC and a cameo would have been alright.

Also, a finished version of Lost Izalith would benice, since the area looks like it was left unfinished, with doors and rooms stillto be added.

I’d recommend Dark Souls to my mom and she doesn’teven play videogames. So yeah, absolutely! First, the story isn’t straight awaytold to you in a lineal way, you have to stop and read item descriptions inorder to unfold a huge part of the mystery. Second, once you try to put thesense of the story together, it’s brilliant, because nothing is entirelyconfirmed, you have to put your brain to work and be like: “okay. We havethis fact and this fact. Now… how can we glue these pieces together and makesome sense into this mess? Like this? Yes…YES!! I can see it… I unraveledthe huge clusterfuck that is Dark Souls!! Oh wait, Dark Souls 3 is out now. Mylore discoveries from the first game are gone. This crap DOESN’T MAKE ANYSENSE, MIYAZAKI. WHAT DID YOU DO”.

No, but really, the story is amazing. I personallyenjoy it a lot, especially because fans have their own interpretations andtheories, so it is all good to read and share different perspectives! Also,another fact: the SOUNDTRACK. Look, I always say that the Bloodborne OST ispure therapy for me because of its aggressive choir of loud voices andwind/string instruments, but the Dark Souls OST is enchanting. Surely it is notas powerful as Bloodborne’s, but it still has its intentional effect, like immersingyou into the scenery/boss fight/whatever it is. And oh boy, it is an epic one!

Another thing: the WORLD is incredibly super wellconnected. The world map from Dark Souls 2 is a MESS. But DS1 does anincredibly good job at it. And it is very beautiful (and a bit depressive too).

Then, the game is HARD AS HECK, Perhaps not for peoplewho is already used to these games, but if you’re a first, it is possible thatthe game gets a bit too difficult for you. But believe me, IT IS SO WORTH IT.DEFEATING A BOSS AFTER THE 30TH ATTEMPT AND CELEBRATING IT, IT IS SUCH A GOODFEELING!

Putting an Ornstein summon at Kiln so that he cansmooch the Chosen Undead in the mouth and beg them to stay before they burn toa crisp.

And also making the ending cutscenes a bit longer.

Hawkeye Gough and Priscilla. I just… I can’t see them being shippedwith anyone. They are pure cinnamon rolls.

Ofcouuurse, love! (Tho, for some reason, putting Haruka into words was just ashard as Rei was, for me?

Why I likeher: Because she is a glorious, strong, beautiful, butch lesbian character ofthe kind that the world needs more of. I love, in particular, how she isportrayed as someone just EVERYBODY falls for, regardless of their sexualorientation, even, BECAUSE SHE IS JUST THAT HOT. Also, she’s fiercelyprotective and follows her own moral compass instead of blindly followingrules, which I appreciate a lot as well when combined with a heart of gold suchas hers. She, like Michiru, makes the tough decisions. Plus, she makes a damnadorable Papa.

Why I don’t:I am not a fan of the Uranus/Moon kiss in the Manga. I know Naoko seemed tohave liked those in some way – Usagi gets kissed without her consent a lot, andoftentimes it was meant to be romantic. And I totally understand this is notonly coming from a different cultural background, and a different concept ofsexual boundaries, but also, most notably, from a different time. Nobody talkedabout consent yet here in the 90s, either. But yes, I see this kiss excusedas “spur of the moment” a lot, but… I mean… No. It was a kiss without consent. IfI translate this to my own experience: I don’t want be kissed by anyone but mypartner – regardless of how close or even physically attracted I am by that someoneelse – and Usagi even expresses this, too. “Someone other than Mamo-chan kissedme” – and it upsets her. So yeah, not a fan of that scene. But it’s nothing Iattribute to Haruka’s character. Instead, I attribute it to the time this scenewas written – and I’m fairly confident that this scene would not have happenedif written today, and if written by someone actually in the LGBTQ+ community. (Thatis, fyi, not to criticize Naoko, but to say that authors too are only human,and we are all slaves to our time and zeitgeist and our own personalexperiences.)

Favepisode/scene: You know, for once I can actually name an episode! Episode 106 –the one in which we get a little backstory in how Michiru and Haruka met andbecame Sailor Senshi – one of those beautiful few instances where the animeactually ran deeper than the manga, gave more substance instead of filler!

And I lovedthis episode – the way you could see the struggle, the decision to act. Anyonewho read Ikigai knows how important free choice is to me, and how much I love agood origin story in which the character is allowed to choose their own path,instead of being thrust a magic item into their hands and that’s it, deal sold.So yeah, that episode is dear to me. Also, I loved the fact that it was adecision for this life AND for Michiru.

Haruka wasrunning in this episode. Like the wind. Chasing a dream, a future, somethingshe couldn’t name. She herself said she felt like running away from something,her destiny. But to me, it felt like running toward Michiru – even though shewas scared there for a moment. And that she had nothing to chase anymoreafterwards – she had found what she’d been looking for.

Favoriteseason: S, again. But for her, too, I love the glimpses into normalcy thatStars gave us. Couple dates in the park, matching clothes, stuff like that? Andit gave us that fierce protective side that Haruka had for Usagi – which weknew from the Infinity Arc, but we hadn’t seen in S.

Favoriteline: Back to nope xD

Favoriteoutfit: It might be totally boring, but it’s herschool uniform:

In particular, it’s because she wears the male one. Andbecause it’s totally alright and without comment that she does.

BROTP:Michiru, again, same reason as for Michiru. Though if there were something likea Little-Sister-OTP, an “IMOTOTP”, it would go to Usagi. I love that love thatHaruka has for Usagi, her princess. It’s so protective and pure.

Headcanon: Michirutotally is the one who makes all the decisions in this relationship. Haruka isthe one who shrugs and is all “what she said”.

Unpopularopinion: For once, I think I’m not unpopular with my opinions on a character?xD Except that I’m not a huge fan of the Haruka and Usagi ship. It’s not a NOTPby all means, but that relationship is more of a sibling-one to me. In fact, Ilike AUs where Haruka is actually portrayed as her older sister?

A wish: Sincewe don’t see them in Crystal Tokyo, I hope they get their little bubble ofhappiness somewhere on a cliff by the ocean, where the wind kisses the waterall day long. (God, that sounds sappy, lol, but you get the imagery xD)

Also, Iwish that the merch people will never stop to announce Haruka and Michiru itemstogether? XD I love that little detail – it’s so sweet they never get separatedeven there.

Favorite character: Believe it or not, Emil, haha.

Least Favorite character: Rodyle, mostly for being okay with human experimentation.

5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): Martil (see answers below re: who I’d marry and who I most identify with), Colloyd, Genis/Presea (if he could just spit it out!)

Character I find most attractive: Oddly enough, after all this time: Emil (see below).

Character I would marry:  Once upon a time, I would tell you Emil for sure, because there was so much of Emil and his character growth that reminded me of my ex-fiance.  My ex is an ex for a reason (mostly because we ended up growing in separate directions), but honestly . . . I’d still marry Emil.  XD

Character I would be best friends with: Lloyd. He’s really understanding and I think he’s just a really nice guy in general who genuinely cares for his friends and sees everyone as a person who deserves compassion and I think he’d be a great friend because of that.

a random thought: As much as I love Martil, I can’t write fic for them because it feels too much like either 1) writing about my own love life, or 2) writing self insert fic, which means I literally can’t tell if I’m in character with either of them and that bothers me because one of the things I try to do with everything I write is to keep everyone as in character as possible.

An unpopular opinion: I think the fact I like Martil and Marta in general falls into that category.

My Canon OTP: Hilariously enough, even though I’m no longer with my ex, Martil, haha.

My Non-canon OTP: It’s kinda funny, I don’t think I really shipped too many of the other characters together.

Most Badass Character: Everybody gets their shining moment of badassery, but Lloyd.  He’s standing in front of Remiel, who he knows is a powerful being at the Tower of Salvation.  He knows that Colette has to go through with her sacrifice if Sylvarant is to be regenerated.  But he still can’t let her go, and proceeds to fight the entirety of Cruxis and takes down a literal god, and mends the world, all for her, because he refuses to live in a world that came at the cost of Colette’s life.  Regardless of who you ship Lloyd with, there’s something to be said for literally deciding to fight against a literal angel, and then not give up when (basically) god shows up and kicks your ass.

Most Epic Villain: Honestly, Kratos.  My friends and I struggled so hard to beat Kratos at the Tower of Salvation in that optional boss battle, and he’s always hard to beat whenever he shows up in the other games as a cameo battle.  As opposed to Yggdrasil, who got ganged up on in the final battle and would have died faster if he didn’t have the ability to break out of stunlock and teleport away, rofl.

Pairing I am not a fan of: Richter/Emil . . . probably for obvious reasons by now, given my previous answers.  XD  That said, nothing against people who ship them.

Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another):

Favourite Friendship: Lloyd and Genis.  I love how Lloyd genuinely treats Genis as a friend and doesn’t make fun of him for being much smarter than he is, and I love that Genis does the same in return.  They both help each other out of tight situations, and generally just support each other as friends.  Bonus mention to Tenebrae and Marta and Emil, just because he’s so snarky and exasperated with both of them at times.  XD

Character I most identify with: Marta in game is basically me at 16 through college, except on a much more . . . mundane scale.  But let’s see, crushing hard on a cute blond boy?  Check.  Arguing with the parents?  Check.  Finding something you want to do with your life to try to help other people?  Check.  Obviously, I grew up and matured, but if you ask me, Marta’s only 16 and she’s got plenty of room to keep growing and maturing post-game.

Character I wish I could be: Honestly, I feel like Marta’s a borderline self-insert character for me just because of how hard I identify with her and see her as my younger self there really isn’t anyone else I’d rather be, as cheesy as it sounds, haha.

Favorite thing about them: I love how Narvin is very sarcastic, ironic and a bit pessimistic at the times (just as me, you know, mb the reason I like him that much is because he’s my soulmate xD). And he’s also so loyal to his friends and really concerned about them. This is very sweet! I guess, I could make a list of little things about him that I really like, but I won’t, this won’t end well.

Least favorite thing about them: I’d say he rarely can defend his point of view properly. Like usually he gives up and does what he’s told to do. Even if what he said was reasonable enough.

+ I’m not talking about his behavior in series 1-2, cos I see no reason, we all know he grew up a lot since then. And we’re proud of him.

Favorite line: “Must be getting soft in my old age” I’m not good in remembering quotes. I have a lot of fav Narvin’s lines, but I just can’t remember how they sounded exactly.

BrOTP:OT3 which is 100% canon as BrOTP. Also OT4, but I don’t think Narvin considers Brax his friend in the audios really, but I’m sure he learns a lot from him and kinda respects him. But in the wonderful world of imagination I see no reason NOT to consider all 4 of them friends.

OTP: Narvin/Leela would be my main and most favourite OTP, also I find Brax/Narvin a lot of fun and mb Narvin/Romana.

Random headcanon: I have a bunch (hah, bunch, I’ve lost count on how many of them do I have) of headcanons about Narvin and even more about Leela/Narvin so here’s an angsty one:

Because of lack of regeneration energy Narvin’s wounds are healing much harder. At first he doesn’t notice it, but as the time passes he can’t ignore it.

Welp, this took ages. Sorry about that ^^;;;;. Some of the asks I answered elsewhere so here’s Tiffany, Deborah, and AJ

The rest are going under a cut b/c it’s looooooong.

Jenny

First impression:I found her kind of boring, honestly. ^^;; Her stats weren’t ones that reallygrabbed me, she wasn’t skilled in repair or speed, and hiding just reallywasn’t my thing.

Impression now: Evenif she’s not my fave, I really do like Jenny, and not just for the chances I’vehad to write her outside of the game. She’s got probably one of my favoriteoutfits (the fairy princess one :3), she’s surprisingly good as a mediccharacter, and tossing a decent Marathon perk on her compensates for her lowstamina. She may not be very fast or smart, but when played well she can be areal pain in the butt for Jason. XD

Favorite moment:For Jenny, it’s probably another moment from when I was primarily doingquickplay games with random people. I spawned in on Packanack Lodge down at thebottom of the map, all alone with a boat escape. While the rest of the team ranaround fighting over the car and the cops, I managed to hunt down the parts forthe boat and repair it completely (and I think it may have been perfectrepairs) and got out on my own while Jason was distracted chasing people at thepolice exit. That was basically the moment I realized I could repair as Jennyand do a good job with it, provided Jason gave me enough time to work. XD

Idea for a story:I’m toying with the idea of a side story for Legacy, involving what exactly washappening with Jenny during the majority of the story… but again, I don’t wantto go into a lot of details because A: spoilers and B: I don’t know if I’ll getto it at any point. XD

Unpopular opinion:Um… her voice is obnoxious? Not really an unpopular opinion I think, but it’sthe best I got. Love ‘ya, Jen, but you need to stop shrieking.

Favorite relationship:Jenny and Chad, obviously. I’m really not entirely sure how I ended up shippingit, but gosh it’s just so cute somehow. Platonically, I see her being reallygood friends with pretty much all the counselors, since Jenny’s just that kind of person who’s basicallyeverybody’s mom friend.

Favorite headcanon:Jenny the Mom Friend, basically. XD She’s the one who’s always ready withsnacks or hot drinks or a shoulder to cry on, or even just ready to storm outthere and give a stern talking to whomever started picking on her friends.

Kenny

First impression:Honesty I thought he was boring. ^^;;;; Largely due to the whole “five in allstats” thing. Since he wasn’t really good at anything, I couldn’t really pinhim down and so just wrote him off as boring.

Impression now:Gosh Kenny’s a cutie. XD His average stats make him easy to tweak into whateverbuild you want to try, and he can actually be a really good addition to theteam! (At least before Jason got his heelies and became super-speedy-jason-6000and ruined the ability to play as anything other than a high-speed characterbecause only Chad, Tiffany and Vanessa can run fast enough to not dieimmediately.) He just feels like an all-around great guy and I’ve reallyenjoyed playing him.

Favorite moment:Hm, again I’m having a hard time pinning down a specific time. I think therewas one round where we had a massive battle at the phone box on the main Lodgeat Higgins Haven, and if I remember right I spent most of my time as Kenny body-blockingthe box or stunning Jason when he tried to break it, but it’s been a while.

Idea for a story:Wellll….. not to give anything away, but I do have a short story I’m working on….>.> featuring Kenny pretty heavily….

Unpopular opinion:I honestly don’t see him as gay? I really don’t mean to offend anyone with this and I don’t have an issue with anyone headcanoning it,I promise. I just… don’t. He reminds me wayyyy too much of a character from my previousfandom who had the fandom treat him the exactsame way because he wore plaid and did engineering stuff as well as being atalented pianist and artist so y’know, let’sstereotype the character that canonically flirts with more women than any ofhis brothers. It’s a super sore spot for me because the whole situation waskinda rough for one of my friends who had a really strong muse for thecharacter, and the fact that it’s happening to ANOTHER character the exact same waykind of frustrates me. Like, headcanon what y’all want but for me at least, I just don’t see it.

Favorite relationship:I’ve got a bit of a soft spot for him and Tiffany at this point. I don’t knowif I’d call their relationship exactly healthy,much like with Chad and Jenny, but at the same time I’m a bit of a sucker forthe “ladykiller in love” trope (or whatever you’d call it if the girl’s the onewho’s a lot more flirtatious than the guy. XD) I also really love the idea ofKenny, Adam and AJ being a really tight-knit group of friends, and Kennyprobably gets along really well with Jenny too.

Favorite headcanon:He’s a bit uptight. Super charming and everything when he’s in “Head CounselorMode” and being friendly with parents and/or kids, but actually running thecamp can make him come across as somewhat neurotic. But on the other side, he’ssuper sweet and kind of a dorky romantic guy who probably serenades Tiffany withhis guitar when he has the chance. X3

Adam

First impression:The whole “edgy,” “biker-y” thing wasn’t really the type of character I’m drawnto, but I didn’t hate him. Like a lot of the characters, I was kind of “meh” onhim in general. Also the lack of stealth really wasn’t my thing for a long time.

Impression now: Ilike him a lot, even if I don’t get to play him much. And honestly,mechanically, he’s not really my best character to play as, especially since he’ssuper noisy and now can’t even run away from Jason at a full sprint. Butcharacter-wise? He’s pretty fun to work with. X3

Favorite moment:Again, really not sure I have one; I barely play him since the random selectiondoesn’t give him to me often, and I rarely pick him since there’s othercharacters I’m better at playing.

Idea for a story:Wellllll, he’s in the short story I’ve been picking at lately… though I don’treally have any stories in mind for Adam specifically. Again, he’s one of thosecharacters I like using as a best friend/side character.

Unpopular opinion:I dunno, I don’t see him as being quite the “tough, rough, bad-boy” some peopledo? Like, yeah he’s got the hair and the leather and stuff, but I feel like he’sa lot more “tough on the outside (especially to bullies) and sweet on theinside” than anything else.

Also I actually like him and AJ being a couple, which seemsto be a somewhat unpopular opinion.

Favorite relationship:Well, AJ mostly, since it’s canon. XD And cute. I do like him and Kennybeing really good friends, and probably the voices of reason in the camp, Adamespecially. (Kenny can be a bit intense as I write him, while Adam’s a lotmellower.)

Favorite headcanon: Iguess since he doesn’t have any confirmed backstory, I kind of really like Adambeing Italian (specifically Sicilian) since his last name is. Also that Adam’sthe cool, laid-back counselor that all the kids think is the Absolute Coolest.

Eric

Y’all had to do it tome, didn’t you?

First impression:I didn’t like him. Out of the entire cast, Eric’s the only one who hasn’tspoken to me at all. Like, at all. He’skind of the epitome of the kind of character I end up feeling very “thank youbut no” about.

Impression now:Nothing has changed. I don’t like him really at all. I don’t like playing ashim because even with a slightly higher strength, he’s still a much worse formof Deborah who can’t run worth anything. And he literally doesn’t speak to mecreatively at all.

Favorite moment:I don’t know, maybe the one time I was in a group and managed to stay away fromJason for like, 5 minutes? The Jason admitted to toying with us, but it was oneof the few times I felt like I wasn’t a huge useless burden as Eric.

Idea for a story:Literally none, he doesn’t speak to me at all.

Unpopular opinion: Idon’t get the meme-ness of him, or understand why people like him at all. Ijust frustrated with people acting like he’s some kind of awesome characterwhen he’s just… really, really not.

Favorite relationship:I don’t have one. I don’t even have friendshipones for him. I think he might have a crush on Deborah but yeah, that ain’tgoing anywhere in my stories.

Favorite headcanon:Uh, that he’s in charge of the radio? Look, I got nothing. I gave him the jobof introducing the radio to Deborah in my story to give him something to do, I literallydon’t have any feeling other than complete apathy at best when it comes to Eric.

Merlin 👀

First impression:

😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

I loved how curious and sunny and optimistic he was.  I loved how he was so genuinely interested in everyone around him and so willing to get involved in their lives to help them.  I loved how much hope and faith he had that things could get better.  I loved the little moments when you were reminded that he was a teenager (I laugh every time he throws himself dramatically onto the bed after Gaius scolds him about using magic - he has a legitimate reason to be upset, obviously; it’s just still so funny when the camera cuts to him lying face-first on the mattress).  

Impression now:

Merlin did something I didn’t expect any character to ever be able to do and just barely knocked Obi-Wan Kenobi out of my “top character” slot.  Merlin is my all-time favorite character in anything ever.  I’ve never been quite so invested in a fictional character’s happiness before.

Favorite moment:

This is an impossible question, lol.  Every single moment is my favorite moment.  I honestly tried to go through and pick one for this, but there’s no way I can do it.

Idea for a story:

Welp, I am currently working on one about the immediate post-Season 3 era, because Lancelot and Merlin’s relationship is one of my favorites to explore and I can’t believe the show skipped the entire year they were in Camelot together.

Unpopular opinion:

This isn’t an unpopular opinion; it’s an unpopular fact: Merlin isn’t in love with Arthur. XD

Favorite relationship:

Literally every single one of Merlin’s relationships is compelling to me.  Gwen, Gaius, Arthur, Gwaine, and Lancelot are particular faves.  

And then obviously I think everybody knows by now that I am deeply invested in Merlin’s friendship with Will. <3

Favorite headcanon:

Again, I don’t know if this counts as a headcanon per se; it’s just more of how I choose to interpret the character, but if I had to pick something to put here, I guess I’d say that I have very set opinions on how Merlin connects to his home.  

I know sometimes fanworks will have him think things like “Camelot was his true home” or “Ealdor had never really been his home anyway,” but I personally don’t believe Merlin sees things that way.  I think Merlin has always considered Ealdor (and Cenred’s kingdom, by default) to be his home.  He’s carved out a place for himself in Camelot, too, but when Freya asks him, “Where is home?” he doesn’t say, “Camelot.”  He says “Ealdor.”

Camelot might be important to him in a different way, but if somebody asks about home, the answer is always going to be Ealdor.  And the thing about Merlin and Ealdor is that even though he struggled there sometimes, it’s clear that he still feels deeply connected to the people and the land.  He cares tremendously when his community is under attack.  He cheers “For Ealdor!” with just as much pride as the rest of his people.  He exposes his magic to save those same people’s lives.  He is still very much a part of that community, whether his childhood there was lonely or not.  He knows all of his neighbors intimately.  Their village is tiny.  He used to work alongside these people every day - everyone pitches in together.  And even if his neighbors didn’t always love him in quite the way he wished they would, there is clearly something about all of them that he cares about, something that he finds valuable and admirable and worthy of protection.

So it isn’t exactly a headcanon, I suppose, but whenever I write Merlin in Camelot, I’m writing a Merlin who feels that he’s far from home.  Camelot is miles from Ealdor, not just geographically, but in terms of the life Merlin is used to having and the work he’s used to doing and the land he’s used to living on.  The city is wildly unfamiliar and completely foreign to anything Merlin’s ever known, and I think he finds this exciting at first, but as time goes on (and especially after Season 1 is over) a sort of permanent, low-level homesickness sets in, one that he knows he can’t ever fix, because he definitely doesn’t want to go back to Ealdor, and he knows he could never live there again, but he still misses the land and the life he had there.  He loves his home, in a complicated way.  Sometimes he glances out his little window at the White Mountains and sees how small and distant they look on the northern horizon, and he remembers how they towered over the valley where Ealdor lay and blotted out the stars on a clear night, and he feels a hollow tug in his chest, like he left a piece of himself behind there.

So I guess what I would say about my “headcanon” is just that I think Merlin’s home looms larger in his mind that he lets on.  I think there are very specific reasons why he virtually never talks about it, but I think it’s something that is often in his thoughts, and I think his upbringing there always determines his reaction to things in Camelot that he finds bizarre or silly or frustrating (see: “I think you’re mad; I think you’re all mad.  People should marry for love.  Not convenience.”  Or: “Oh, yeah, the tournament where the knights ride around hitting each other with blunt weapons for no good reason?”).  Camelot isn’t the norm for Merlin; Ealdor is.  Merlin is a rural peasant farmer from a rural peasant village.  That’s always going to be true, whatever else becomes of him later.

Thoughts Dump on Season 7 Episodes 10-13

Shall we do this little read more thing here cause this is going to get long? Probably. Def open for talking about them if you decide to read all the way through! I’m up for some good MLP discussion.

A Royal Problem

Can I just start by saying how much I LOVE that we got an episode that actually has more in depth on the Princesses? I’ve been aching for one for forever, and honestly it feels like we’ve gotten more Luna over time cause she’s the one who’s had bigger problems that she’s needed to sort out. 

CELESTIA THOUGH, you cannot tell me she’s the boring blob that being the princess she is demands her to be all the time. This is why I need moreeeee. Give me Celestia’s wild side PLEASE.

On that note, I love how good she is at covering it up compared to Luna. Issues? Don’t fret my little ponies, they are being solved and I assure you, everything is alright. She’s just so GOOD at her role in being the one that takes everything just to make everyone else’s lives easier and brighter. Dang Celestia, how do you do it. Also the personality contrast between she and Luna is still great and it also shows their age/experience difference. 

The Twilight music box was a good example of how wonderfully odd this show can be and how, after 7 seasons, it continues to catch me off guard. I LOVE IT.

CELESTIA MAKES PANCAKES FOR EVERYPONY IN THE MORNING. I DIED. She is far too good and I highly appreciate the fact that she enjoys cooking, especially such silly yet comforting things?? Lmao

Not that I didn’t see it coming (I mean duh, but it’s just been awhile), but also holy heck is she a morning person. This is definitely where I connect to Luna more, and I love her snark.

Both the Princesses are just too good tbh, they both try so hard and do so much good in their own ways. LIKE HOW CONCERNED LUNA WAS ABOUT THE FUNDRAISER EVEN THOUGH IT WASN’T HER USUAL DUTY. She tried and immediately failed and felt super bad about it. All because she can’t hold a smile sjflksdjfjhdfj

Was telling my sister the whole time that nobody would ever, ever be as bold as Starlight Glimmer and that’s why this episode worked, and so I was glad Luna said nearly the exact same thing at the end. Applause for Starlight tbh.

Daybreaker’s design tho. On a more personal note, I was admiring her snarly face the whole time cause it’s definitely the closest design i’ve seen in the show so far that would work for Kelpie shape-wise. Putting that note aside if I ever try to do canon style stuff with my OC’s!

Luna’s dream was legitimately creepy for a show that seems to tone stuff down so much. There are like, magic battles and villains and stuff, but rarely does something strike me as dark? Maybe it’s just me. 

THAT’S IT FOR THIS ONE, I probs give it a 9/10

Not Asking For Trouble 

I don’t want to get too into this one, but for quite awhile Pinkie’s characterization has bothered me. Compared to the first few seasons, it seems recently she’s been over the top to the point of making others upset, but not even in a silly Pinkie way. It almost came across as less annoying others, but using her silly personality as a cover to let her freely say mean things? I’m not sure what happened there, but it sorta rubbed me the wrong way and this was just a good example of Pinkie being Pinkie. 

She went with everything the Yaks said and tried to understand them and fix the issue without being too much of a bother to them! That’s the Pinkie I know! I was honestly waiting for disppointment and was relieved when it didn’t happen. 

Not sure if this is an unpopular opinion or a lot of people thought this too, but what can I say, some episodes just seem more consistent than others

HE’S SUCH A BABY AND A PROTECTIVE GRUMP, DEFINITELY THE UNCARING OUTSIDE MUSHY INSIDE CHARACTER THAT I LOVE

I reminded my little sister of this 50 times during the episode. I just feel the need to emphasize how much I love my dumb noodle horse dragon at all times. 

I don’t specifically like or dislike Fluttercord but you gotta admit there’s some good cheesy content here. THEY’RE CUTE FRIENDS AAAAA

Sometimes I wonder what the inside of Discord’s head looks like if he appears that crazy on the outside. Just, his mind must work in a very different way lol

THE SINGING GINSENG IS CUTE I WANT 100

I still marvel that the Discord we first saw is so taken by Fluttershy in such a legitimate way, but I am starting to get it. I suppose that his thing was always just chaos and messing with others and not necessarily being evil, and that’s probably what got me. He iiiiis kind of an attention hog so honestly, making friends that allow him to be his chaotic self around them is probably a fair compromise. Still, sometimes.

Explain to me though why he needed to go to 5 different stores to get things he could’ve just conjured up himself. Smh he likes to make things difficult and it pains me!! Stop being such a drama queen, but also don’t xD

Did u see the part where he hyperventilated into the bag but his neck expanded instead. Okay top wacky cartoon humor LOL

“Do something chaotic Fluttershy” “Oh no, I tipped over that cup!” MY SISTER AND I HAD A GOOD LAUGH AT THAT FLUTTERS PLS

There was probably an even mix of me expressing my love for discord and shaking my head actually. They go together hand in hadn though, no?

The Perfect Pear

WHAT CAN I EVEN SAY ABOUT THIS EPISODE 

IT JUST GOT ME GOOD

IT WAS NICE TO GET BACKSTORY ON APPLEJACK’S PARENTS AND EQUAL PARTS HAPPY AND SAD

I MEAN THEY DEF AREN’T AROUND ANYMORE, DON’T THINK THERE WS ANY OTHER WAY TO READ THE IMPLICATIONS 

SO MANY GOOD FEELS

Just story and writing wise though this episode was so well done. There are always the funny episodes and everyone has their own favorite for reasons or because of their favorite characters, but sometimes some are just GOOD. Like classics, or everybody’s favorite, the ones that continue to stick out from the 100+ episodes the show has.

I’m rewatching these as I type this out and you know an episode’s good when you finish it and rewatch and things make more sense the second time around. Like how Grand Pear comes across as just a nice old pony the first time you watch it and if you rewatch it you’re like “Ohhh that look and being nice specifically towards Apple Bloom wasn’t just a random kind gesture”

Applejack’s over-reacting to everything: “PEAR JAM??? IN MY KITCHEN??” *DRAMATIC GASP*

“The food smells great Applejack i’ll brb for dinner” You mean the pancakes that are scattered all over the floor???

“And her cutie mark was a preserved jar, but pear butter don’t look too different from apple butter, so you know...” LMAO (true??)

The “the apple didn’t fall too far from the tree” moments got me, THESE KIDS TAKE AFTER THEIR PARENTS IN THE BEST WAYS. The sibling bonding was adorable in this ep.

Also I have to note, Pear Butter with her little bit of sassiness and curly ginger hair gave me Puck Connolly vibes the whole episode, which is always a good thing

Ahh thank you! Naruto isn’t one of my favorites, but I definitely appreciate his character development (counting fucking nothing after 699).

First impression: Am I allowed to strangle him?, aka what I said out loud when I first saw him on screen. That opinion changed slightly when I watched all of Episode 1, and realised that a) he was just looking for attention, and b) he wasn’t all that annoying when he was being his real self. So... mixed vibes, I guess!

Impression now: Still mixed, haha. He’s really caring, which I love - I’m soft for truly nice people. Naruto genuinely wants the best for everybody, and believes that he can set off change by achieving a position of power to make everyone’s lives perfect. He is extremely determined to get what he wants and will work hard to get it, which is the ethic of most characters in Naruto (and something I liked a lot). At the same time, Naruto is a bit too kind - gives too many second chances, which made him a stereotypical MC. His drive to save Sasuke also sounded a little repetitive when he kept going on and on and on about it (yes, I do ship SNS, but this is just my opinion!). I both like and dislike Naruto’s naivete, because it’s way too overplayed, but also cute and adds to his trustworthy aura. I also disliked his ability spam - what’s on with all that “Kyuubi Chakra Mode” and SO6P nonsense? As an Uzumaki, Naruto should’ve had some cool clan jutsu! I honestly wish he’d delved into more of Minato’s jutsu as well... his parents were both amazing ninja and their legacy is what Naruto deserves to inherit, not the legacy of some old codger who is only very distantly related to him! (This also goes for Sasuke and the Sharingan; I did not mention this in that post but I do mean it.)

Favorite moment: I loved the bit where Naruto stabbed himself in the hand to remove the poison. It was a marked growth in his character, the turning point for both him and me (in my perception of him). His determination to be brave in the face of any danger really started to shine through, and it was a very beautiful scene despite making me shudder a little because he plunged a knife through his own fucking hand.

Idea for a story: Naruto is adopted by Sakura’s family at a young age, and grows up seeing her as his sister. This changes... a lot of things in the Naruto-verse XD Knowing me, it would definitely be endgame SNS/InoSaku lol (also knowing me, it might even be aro!Naruto + SuiSasu XDD)

Unpopular opinion: Naruto is bad at romance. If someone confesses their love to him, could be Sasuke, Hinata, anyone: he will accept it because he loves the idea of being loved, and thinks that he is obligated to love someone back who loves him. He was attention-starved as a kid and this screws up his perception of love.

Favorite relationship: SNS ALL THE WAY! Naruto and Sasuke have a healthy rivalry which motivates both to do better and push themselves. I like how Naruto sets Sasuke as his target and reaches it. He and Sasuke understand each other deeply, and they have always been there for each other. They have an inbuilt trust and dependence on each other.

Favorite headcanon: Naruto sings in his free time. He likes to sing old melodies and opera songs, and he’ll sing while Sasuke will dance. Sometimes they’ll waltz together; Naruto provides the music and Sasuke guides him.
