🍀 - What originally inspired the OC?

This is Mrs Maepa Bae!! One of my several SW OCs.

She's been around for over a year so I don't remember alll of her inspiration but she did come around very messily hahaha. She was originally a Mon Calamari or some sort of fish, then I thought about making her some kind of preying mantis, then maybe a butterfly or moth, and I really only chose her final version a few weeks ago.

I originally had her being much younger than her final version, but somewhere along the way I was very inspired by that frog lady from the one episode of the Mandalorian, and so she both became a mother who carries her eggs around.

Where her celebrity storyline came from... I actually have no clue. At some point I decided it would be cool to do something with the sorely neglected idea of celebrities within the galaxy, and there you have it. I adore her very much

Today, I woke up early, but instead of the birds chirping and the frogs gurgling, it was the sound of the wandering machines, the ones that create destruction, the ones whom run infinitely, and glow from their eyes in the night.

This isn't new, of course. These scary beasts of thunder aren't new to this place. They never have been.

But why do they shock me awake in the most helpless of times? Because they are born of destruction and are the causes of disease.

Inefficient, terrible machines they are. There are much better ways to transport yourself, far less deaths will be caused that way.

10. Has a piece of writing ever “haunted” you? Has your own writing haunted you? What does that mean to you?

There are a lot of pieces of writing that have haunted me, but I'll share one of the first: I first read When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead when I was younger, and I remember first reading it and feeling unsettled, feeling like I had stumbled into something I didn't understand. I re-read it recently for fun, and the impact was different. I really admire authors who write for younger readers, middle-grade novels, etc, giving kids these excellent books that get them thinking about the world.

More recently, a poem: "Reverse Suicide" by Matt Rasmussen was so simple and haunting; it perfectly captures that sense of wanting to wind time back.

I think my own writing haunts me in a couple of ways, different from reading other media: maybe if I wasn't able to finish something, or I couldn't articulate something how I wanted to—or maybe if I really liked something I wrote and it reminds me of a certain time in my life, and I want to hold on to that.

13. What is a subject matter that is incredibly difficult for you write about? What is easy?

I'd say two things that are difficult are revenge and grief. When I write about revenge, I get caught up in the big picture, in trying to make it mean something. Grief is even harder, I get lost in the details. It becomes very personal. I often write by trying to imagine myself in a situation or drawing on what I've felt; that makes writing grief difficult. A lot of things I love reading are hard for me to write.

What's easy? I'd say... growing up and feeling too young, wanting and imagining, missing people, the casual ways we love and hurt each other. Families—I love writing about family dynamics. Established patterns and adventures.

17. Talk to me about the minutiae of your current WIP. Tell me about the lore, the history, the detail, the things that won’t make it in the text.

I have so many random details about this arranged marriage AU!

Aside from the Anderfels, I think I'm most curious about the Free Marches, so I have set the majority of it in Tantervale.

I love thinking about my Trevelyan's family. I imagine her as the youngest with one brother and one sister, the eldest. Though it has nothing at all to do with this WIP, I like thinking about how any of the three of them could have been Inquisitor: Aarush would be an archer going to bat for his sister, Kalpana a sword + shield warrior trying to protect her but stifling her. I think he would fall for Cassandra while trying to mess with her, and she would fall for Josephine who finally convinces her to loosen up...

I'm playing with the idea that lyrium dulls templars' senses of taste—and one facet of Cullen's healing is getting to taste and find joy in food again

Rylen has taken over Cullen's job and Hawke loves to hound him. I love to invent details that do not carry over so for one line of this fic, Rylen has a sister who is a mage. She is likely the reason he became a Templar.

One big thing about leaving the Circle for Ashna is not being a few floors away from a library, and she can't help but miss that; I'm thinking of whether Thedas libraries are mainly the domain of scholars/universities unless sponsored as a Chantry initiative. People would buy books instead, if they have the money—making them a luxury (Back to Wynne and her novels)

32. What is a line from a poem/novel/fanfic etc that you return to from time and time again? How did you find it? What does it mean to you?

I'm going to nerd out a little—I'm really fascinated by translation in literature and how much the translator can shift meaning through their word choice. There's a lot of power there. From "La siesta del martes" by Gabriel García Marquez:

She was riding with her spine firmly braced against the back of the seat, holding in both hands a handbag of flaking patent leather. She had the careful serenity of someone used to poverty.

I first read this in a Spanish class, and the whole story is full of rich details. Every line matters, there are no wasted words. It's one of my favorite short stories.

Another line I keep coming back to is from this poem (one of my favorites) by Pablo Neruda:

Their volume of kisses breaks and goes under / fought at the gate of the summer wind

The imagery is light and fresh and it brings the idea of change, the freedom of summer—I think this is my favorite translation of this poem and pulls beautifully from the original. Another, from "Nothing but Death":

...and there are beds sailing into a harbour where death is waiting, dressed as an admiral.

I have created lots, probably the most of any year ever. thats thanks to you really lol.

i will talk about some of my dnd related characters though since thats my Thing at the moment.

okay so my baldurs gate character is a Lorth Sworn Drow (sp?). I can't for the life of me remember his name, or if i even named him lol. i wanted him to be a big darker than my other characters because i feel like i was on a lighthearted streak (its hard to take a giant ant seriously). im still building up backstory for him since the same doesnt really do that. but hes a bard. i know he has had a hard a traumatic past, hes trying to overcome that and not be morally corrupt. astarion may be a bad influence in that area.

I have to mention derek, the giant ant. he is my favourite character i made ever. ant who is lost in space, stranded from his children, due to his wife’s involvement with a cult, and on a seemingly hopeless journey to get them back. I’ve played a couple variations of derek. all of them bard, yes that is my favourite class. his story hasn’t been resolved yet but i would love to one day see him reunited with his kids.in the meantime he will be stealing weapons and playing all my favourite songs on the bagpipes. and sleeping in holes in the ground apparently.

I've made a bunch of potential npcs for some games im planning. next year i need to expand my horizons though as i think my characters are the same a lot of the time lol.

Otter and Lemon, Mangrove's parents. Otter was the bigwings of her sib group, she lost them all in a storm that hit the Mud and Sea kingdoms years before the current events of the books or the tree wars. She had heard stories of the lost continent, and thinking it was the only thing she would have left, flew into the see looking for it. Going to pantala is very hard without future sight and the whole journey took her almost 2 years of drifting from tiny island to tiny island. Once she made it there, she found a small village were she met lemon, who was far less scared than we see now. He was incredibly prickly and mean the first time they met but Otter knew he was a big sweet heart under it. They did eventually get together and have Mangrove, but Otter died a few years before the tree wars of sickness. Once their village was attacked in the tree wars, Lemon tried as hard as he could and managed to rescue a good few dragons before almost dying of his wounds. Mangrove flew him to the poison jungle with the other leafwings and he now lives with the Sapwings at the ripe old age of 89. Lemon is a lot less sour than he used to be, spending most of his days telling stories of before the tree wars and Otter. Mangrove visits him often and flew with him when the Silkwing and Leafwings fled to Pyrrhia.

1. ITS SO DIFFICULT TO PIN DOWN JUST ONE THING but i think they equally love how the other compliments them perfectly…they’re like two peas in a loser pod. ITS KINDA FUNNY HOW FAST THEY SWITCHED THEIR OPINIONS OF EACH OTHER WHEN THEY STARTED TO FALL IN LOVE they had a rivalry going on prior to their dating as allie was part of the news journalism team trying to do an exposé on the whole Tomato scandal and chip was like Get off my back please. BUT along with a bunch of similarities in personality/motive (stay tuned for full lore Winks) they both found the other to be just what they needed to be whole…both just wanting to be loved and accepted, despite the confident and put-together fronts they put on (or attempt to at the very least) nobody ever made them feel as loved as the other had…they’re able to soothe the parts of them they hide deep down.

but more concretely, allie thinks chip’s spoiled, clueless approach to even the most simple tasks is (ironically) kind of charming, as she enjoys being able to show him the most basic of skills and have him think she’s some kind of god…it gives her an ego boost

chip on the other hand finds allie to be a genuinely remarkable person, and he really looks up to her…although he’d likely never admit it to her. moral code aside (for obvious reasons) he finds her work ethic and strong demeanor admirable…even after realizing the later is merely a façade. normally, chip would not look twice at someone’s hard work unless they were working directly beneath him, and even then he was not the kind of boss to give raises…but with allie it was different. he found her really respectable in all she does, even the acts not done for his sake (gasp!)

allie def gives off the vibes of someone who would not openly show affection with her partner, but with chip she’s the most touchy gal ever. chip happily returns these affections

CHIP DEF IS A PDA GUY in bcg hes sooo touchy in non-intimate settings like he’s constantly putting his arm around or touching the arm of those he interacts with so with allie he’s allll about that

they’re like so annoying when they’re with each other. chip would also not be shy about calling allie pet names which she returns in rare occasions only because she knows it turns chip beet red

BUT YES idk if they’d be the type to hold hands while walking for example. but they’re touchy in other ways…little gestures. brushing hands while talking, resting a hand on the other’s arm or shoulder, constantly in each other’s arms…i hope i’m getting the vibe across

3. FOR THOSE UNAWARE ALLIE IS A JOURNALIST FOR CHANNEL 11 and in all honesty it was not her first career choice. but she does enjoy her job, being a fan of writing and ESPECIALLY as someone who is nosy she heavily enjoys being able to document the hot big city tea. she sort of envies maria media, wishing she was able to actually speak her mind about what she’s written, not just hand it off to maria to read herself…especially when she changes things to fit her own idea of what’s “news worthy,” it makes allie’s blood boil

that’s mostly bad things but. SHE DOES ENJOY HER JOB

Silly OC things: Evil Twin

I've had my OC walter for... forever now, and every once in a while i'd accidentally draw his hair inverted, with a light streak instead of a dark streak) and That eventually became a joke version of him, the EVIL version of him. Named, creatively, Retlaw.

So retlaW is the evil fucked up version of Walter, right? now thts been adapted to my brain that he is a doppelganger (a monster race that totally now exists in my comic's canon). Some poor unformed doppelganger saw Walter during his sluttiest, most fun-loving years and thought. Oh i can't corrupt him. but i CAN impersonate him and have That much fun, at least. :)

Rett quickly was found by Walter, Rett would sleep around, ruin the real Walter's reputation by being a little devil. "Was this, i dunno, someone who looked an awful lot like me, but he had a scar on his face? Reeked of cigarettes?" And if the answer was Yes, he knew his evil twin was running around.

Rett thinks hes the free, happy version of Walter, but all Walter sees is the cautionary tale of letting all of his previous vices win.

I just think hes a silly lil guy who likes to have FUN and break hearts and ... other Very Legal Things!!

Ida's story revolves around the actual cannon of the story, but does change the ending since I refuse to acknowledge BO4 as cannon.

In the beginning, Richtofen was sent in the orphanage due to his mother completely giving up on him. He wasn't able to connect with any of the kids there, until another boy came in. This boy was Gunther. The two imedditly where pretty much connected to the hip, making their own code names and even making their own secret bases around their small town.

As they grew older, the two decided to live with one another due to them being basically brothers...also so they can save money and move out of their home to expand more of both of their knowledge of the world....That was until Richtofen joined the illuminati. Since he never wanted Gunther to be apart of his secret life, he usually pretended that he was going put of town for his job and all.

Everything was fine until the stupidest and cruelest thing could've happened. As Gunther was at home since he was off of work that day, he was getting laundry done. He was trying to get Richtofen's cloths put away, bit accidently tripped. As he was picking up the cloths, he noticed a letter. He assumed it was a random letter that was addressed wrong...but as he read the letters addressor, he panicked...and the next thing he knew was a knife in his side. It was Richtofen who stabbed him in a panick state of his own.

Richtofen having to lie to the doctors and all, left Gunther alone for a few days. During those days, Gunther was afraid. Why? Well, he believed his brother was apart of the German government during that time and believed that his brother found out about his own secret...Gunther was trans.

After the doctors let Gunther out, Gunther imedditlh hauled it and packed a suitcase. He booked a train ticket to go northwest by the sea, mostly so he can flee from anywhere that Richtofen and the N**i's could find him.

Now, Gunther had fully transitioned(by historical means since he could only change her voice's pitch and dress herself up all cool and all) and is named Ida. She had joined the British army as a spy, to stop the reign of evil that had controlled her beloved brother and country. She gets assigned to spy in Group 935 with America's own spy, Peter McCain

angel (don’t mind me projecting): i always imagine angel to be more feminine presenting, dirty blonde shoulder (ish) length hair that they dye from time to time. brown eyed baddie, Very Short Person.

ash: dirty blonde curly hair, a lil shorter than david, more lean ? if that makes sense? lighter brown eyes and he has lil acne scars all across his cheeks. dimples n crows feet when he smiles :)

babe: my babe has a pretty dark complexion, also Very Short Person vibes. masc presenting, chubby, n dope ass style, very cottage core. big round glasses (in my brain their nickname is specs bc their glasses take up their whole face)

milo: short legend, Italian Tan Man. shorter curly black hair, (surprise) dark brown eyes, has a scar on his left cheek from a bike accident when he was a little kid before marie got good at healing

sweetheart: the image of them in my head literally has me in love with them agsjfkhs, slightly taller than milo, grunge aesthetic. they wear contacts but they do need glasses, SURPRISE they have dark blue eyes. dark brown hair in a wolf cut (hehe) purposely wears platforms so they tower over milo he loves hates it

sam: taller than ash, shorter than david. sam is the Only redacted boy that i have a distinct real life person in my head and it’s Chord Overstreet very specifically in this picture

darlin: huge badass person. tall and ripped as fuck, brown hair brown eyes hehe they do dye their hair from time to time though. also pretty grunge aesthetic, the type to go out in black cargos, hefty combat boots, and a white tank top, sit at a chair slouched down, manspreading with their arms crossed across their chest just glaring at everyone

There’s not much to tell right now, but what I can tell you is the ship is genuine just angst. I mean not long after our daughter is born, Odin decides he’s sick my rebelling and insubordination so he just,,, stages an ambush to kill me. And when I (unknowingly) survive, Odin lies to Thor and tells him Giants killed me. Then manipulates Thor to marry my half-sister Sif because “the kids need a mother in their lives”

I also decided that Thor gifted me short swords at some point that I can harness my magic through. I definitely get them enchanted (or enchant them myself) so only I can lift them like Mjolnir with Thor, but I don’t tell him. I definitely used to find it amusing when I’d leave them in the floorboards of our room and he can lift them

And my s/i is loosely based off the Enchantress from Marvel Comics but more in the sense that after my “death” while I’m in hiding on Midgard, I take the Amora and people would know I enchant things so I’d be called Amora the Enchantress. I also think that’s how I’d meet Kratos and Atreus, they’re sent to go find Amora to help them with something. Mimir is definitely shocked to see me, as he should be since the ambush was all his idea

The reunion during Ragnarok would be a ride cause everyone has their own jobs and I tell Kratos I’m going to go find Thor and try to sway him to help us. And Thor is not expecting me to show up cause y’know he thought I was dead for like centuries

I do manage to convince him to help us, which is really good until we have to face Odin who isn’t happy his only surviving son is working against him. He does try to stab Thor like in the game, but cause I’m a master at illusion and enchantment, I send a copy of myself to intervene so Odin thinks he stabbed me when I get in the way. Everyone thinks he did, until I come up behind and stab him with my short swords. It doesn’t do much and he just uses Mjolnir to launch me away and Thor has to go save me. So that sort of explains our absence from the final fight with Odin

somehow instead of saying "as a treat", I've started using the phrase "for morale", as if my body is a ship and its crew, and I (the captain) have to keep us in high spirits, lest we suffer a mutiny in the coming days.

and so I will eat this small block of fancy cheese, for morale. I will take a break and drink some tea, for morale. I will pick up that weird bug, for morale.
