About the Book
Tumblr media
title: The Library of Broken Worlds author: Alaya Dawn Johnson publisher: Scholastic Press release date: 6 June 2023
A girl matches wits with a war god in this kaleidoscopic, thought-provoking tale of oppression and the cost of peace, where stories hide within other stories, and narrative has the power to heal -- or to burn everything in its path -- from World Fantasy Award–winning author Alaya Dawn Johnson.
A girl and a god, alone in communion...
In the winding underground tunnels of the Library, the great peacekeeper of the three systems, a heinous secret lies buried -- and Freida is the only one who can uncover it. As the daughter of a Library god, Freida has spent her whole life exploring the Library's ever-changing tunnels and communing with the gods. Her unparalleled access makes her unique -- and dangerous.
When Freida meets Joshua, a Tierran boy desperate to save his people, and Nergüi, a disciple from a persecuted religious minority, Freida is compelled to help them. But in order to do so, she will have to venture deeper into the Library than she has ever known. There she will discover the atrocities of the past, the truth of her origins, and the impossibility of her future.
With the world at the brink of war, Freida embarks on a journey to fulfill her destiny, one that pits her against an ancient war god. Her mission is straightforward: Destroy the god before he can rain hellfire upon thousands of innocent lives -- if he doesn't destroy her first.

Excerpt
By the time Samlin left me three weeks later, I felt like a blindfolded animal: confused, disoriented, ready to bite. I cried for days and sent him increasingly desperate messages until I realized he would never respond to me again. Nadi told me I’d forget about him, that everyone had to fall in love for the first time, that it would get better. I wanted to believe zir. But I was shivering, growing into ice, drifting into an empty sea. I didn’t know how to say what I was feeling. I hardly knew how to feel it.
Nadi had little time for me in those days. Ze was sequestered at a diplomatic round table with the Mahām leadership to address recent protests about their Treaty-condemned occupation of the Miuri moon. I didn’t push. The thought of telling Nadi precisely what had happened or not happened in that nanodrop made my guts twist like wet rope and my head fill with cotton. Better Iemaja, I decided. Better a god who barely understands the minutiae of human affairs and only speaks in communion.
I walked inside her because I had seen myself in Samlin’s deep eyes and hated that reflection. Freida the sweet. Freida the beautiful. Freida, once an excellent find but now inconvenient, twitchy, withdrawn, and desperate. I was beginning to see myself as they did, all those who stared and stared and saw nothing behind my eyes but a dark mirror. What was my heart, what were my bones, what were my constellations of synapses firing, lighting up my soul? Nadi insisted I was human, but even so, I had been left to freeze out in the ocean because no one thought I was worth any more. I was afraid, Nameren, so very afraid that they were right.
I had begun in Kohru, the artery of childhood and discovery and, in some ways, rebellion. But I was now in unknown capillaries. Some passages were so narrow that I had to get on my belly to pass through, the stone warm against my exposed skin. Sometimes the crystal would crack and water would bubble through the seams and I would slurp it down. It tasted of moonlight and copal and stillness. I told Iemaja that I loved her. The water then bubbled with her laughter and tasted of rose petals. It grew thick and slow with sugar. I lay in that soft, sticky womb for a while. The sweetness had been made to balance the salt of my tears. She is kind like that, Iemaja.
I told her about Samlin. I told her how helpless he had made me feel, not in my body, which he’d left untouched, but in my spirit. My tongue was heavy, as though it belonged to someone else. But still I spoke, until I reached the end.

Tonight I was feeling sad about how for so long — well into my 30s —I ADORED young adult fiction. It had been my favourite genre for some 20+ years, and then, suddenly (except not suddenly, now that I think about it) it wasn’t any more. I realised that I have been experiencing a different sort of ‘coming of age’ in my early 40s. A few years ago I discovered queer ya lit, then fanfiction, then NA, then romance and other ‘adult’ genres. Nearly everything I read was queer, queer, queer.
I uncovered my queerness, and through (and alongside) that process I later uncovered my neurospiciness as well.
I wonder if my attachment to YA coming of age stories was due to some deep-seeded knowing that despite being a many-yeared adult, I still had so much to learn about myself, the world and my place within it.
I wonder if my 40+ year old Learning — my unpicking of seams, my reshaping of ideas, my reinterpretation and discarding of rules, my unmasking of self — has contributed to my move away from YA lit. I am no longer subconsciously seeking alternate paths, and quite frankly I am slightly resentful that I lack the time-jumping capacity to learn these things about myself when all paths were laid out before me. I resent that Life and Culture and Comphet and Nurture blinded me to the alternate paths back when they really mattered.
It turns out I no longer want to read about kids making discoveries about themselves and the world around them, and having so many years ahead to shape and reshape their reality however they fancy. I want to read about messy adults in messy, full lives with responsibilities and consequences and regret and frustrations and joy and love and internal despair about what their too-late discoveries really mean and whether it really makes a difference at this late stage in the game and why any of it matters if they’re generally happy and contented and loved and supported anyway.
I’m not saying I’ve crossed the rubicon into self awareness and enlightenment or anything, but I do think maybe that I no longer have that particular itch that YA so perfectly scratched.

Read an Excerpt: The Feeling of Falling in Love by Mason Deaver
From the bestselling author of I Wish You All the Best, comes a new kind of love story, about the bad decisions we sometimes make... and the people who help get us back on the right path.
Tumblr media
Just days before spring break, Neil Kearney is set to fly across the country with his childhood friend (and current friend-with-benefits) Josh, to attend his brother's wedding—until Josh tells Neil that he's in love with him and Neil doesn't return the sentiment.
With Josh still attending the wedding, Neil needs to find a new date to bring along. And, almost against his will, roommate Wyatt is drafted.
At first, Wyatt (correctly) thinks Neil is acting like a jerk. But when they get to LA, Wyatt sees a little more of where it's coming from. Slowly, Neil and Wyatt begin to understand one another… and maybe, just maybe, fall in love for the first time…

“i must have been real sweet on you,” eddie murmurs as he runs his fingers over his husband’s cheek, sleepy and sated, warm in their bed.
steve chuckles, twisting his head to catch the tips of eddie’s fingers with a kiss. “why are you talking past tense? you’re not sweet on me now?”
the room is peacefully still. years of baby monitors are long gone only to inevitably give way to their daughter’s teenage years of slamming doors and too loud stereo speakers. but in this moment, with the pale moonlight streaming in through the windows and crickets chirping in the distance, the room is peaceful, thick with love.
“quit your pouting, ‘course i’m sweet on you now.” eddie wipes away steve’s fake frown with a kiss, turning it into a sticky sweet grin. “it’s just something my mom used to tell me. that freckles are all the places your soulmate in a past life kissed you.”
eddie pushes steve back so he’s laying flat on the mattress and dips his head to press featherlight kisses on the side of his neck. across his shoulders. over his cheeks. his fingertips flutter over the spots afterwards, leaving goosebumps in their wake despite the heat radiating between them.
“must have loved you a whole lot in our last lives to leave so many on you now,” eddie whispers, pulling back to stroke the back of his hand over steve’s face once more, letting his lips curl up in a dopey half smile that only steve ever gets to see.
it doesn’t take long for steve to tilt his head up and press kisses of his own where he can; under eddie’s eye, the bottom of his chin, right over his heart. it doesn’t take long for eddie to giggle as his sensitive spots are found and attacked with ticklish kisses and fluttering eyelashes. it doesn’t take long for their legs to tangle together underneath the sheets and their breaths to get caught in their chests and their hearts to start beating a beautiful melody of their own making.
steve lays a firm kiss to the side of eddie’s chest, over jagged white scarring and half bitten away tattoos. over memories that somehow don’t haunt them as much anymore.
“what was that one for?” eddie asks, eyes half lidded, the adoration in his voice loud across the quiet room.
another kiss on another scar. “wanna give you some freckles. for your next life and for this one, too. so you know just how sweet on you I am-” kiss, “ -and was-” kiss, “- and forever will be.”
they won’t know for however many more years if it worked or not. but here in this lifetime, they have all the time in the world to try their damndest to make sure it does. in this lifetime, they don’t have to worry, because they know they’ll  find each other in the next one.

This is me wanting to draw that Gohan and Goten reunion we never got in the buu saga. Like both were dead and one thought the other to be dead.
This started cause I was talking to a friend of Gotens character in regards to Goku at first Goku is hyped up to him this untouchable heroic hero. He sees how everyone feels about him but he feels not much for his Dad other what he was told and he’s scared to approach. Then, reality kicks in his Dad isn’t that… Gohan is “killed” and Goten and Trunks and thrusted into the role of saviors of the Earth. Goten resents him but then… he learns that Goku isn’t none of that he’s real, super approachable, and awesome. It beat the stories he was told.
Then, he realizes he never felt he was missing that love because he had a lot of it. Gohan was always there for him making sure nothing was missing for Goten. Goten realizes he is very lucky to have Gohan. Anyway not me explaining my comic in the comments
