#I realize JHK is nancy drewing it up at the moment but it feels like something that could resurface in the back half of the season perhaps

okay but do we think it's gonna be relevant that albert's house is seemingly giving him the same treatment chimney got when he started at the 118

No, but what you said Nark is completely right. I’m a couple of years younger to what we deducted his age is and work in a similar field and I can’t even imagine myself with someone so young. They are in completely different places in life and she being Nancy Drew and being legal don’t change any of it. It’s unrealistic for someone of his age to act like that unless he isn’t the good guy they are painting him to be. I still haven’t seen the “good love triangle” like people are talking about and don’t even get time started on “Nancy has feelings for Park” 🤡
Thank you! For me, it’s just a bad dynamic cause of the age difference and power imbalance, so I’m not stoked with people saying Nark criticism is slut shaming Nancy. I haven’t seen any criticism that is based in that, but I could obviously have missed something.
We know Nace is endgame. That’s not our point. Before this episode, I actually really liked Park, I thought the addition of a profiler would be super cool, and that John Harlan Kim seemed like a good addition to the show as the Cop of the Season™. I was so glad when he told Nancy that a relationship between them would be inappropriate, and I was very disappointed that the show decided to have them hookup anyway.
I also just don’t like how this love triangle is written. Up until this last episode, I fully thought that Nancy might have a little crush on Park, but that Nelson saw Nancy as more of a mentee. Because he clearly has a lot of respect for her, and that’s not something we saw from McGinnis or Tamura. A mentor/mentee relationship between Park and Nancy would’ve been really fun to watch. That would’ve been a really cool dynamic. The spur of the moment hookup didn’t really feel like it fit. It didn’t have much buildup at all, and Park had way more chemistry with Bo’s Temperance than he does with Nancy. (JHK is great, don’t think this is criticism of him, just the character)
I also think that a lot of media tries to put love triangles in stories that simply don’t need them. Like 10 years ago, every young adult book had to have a love triangle because “The Hunger Games had one and look how it did!” But, in my opinion, most of those love triangles took away from the story the author was originally trying to tell. I don’t think a lot of creators realized that the love triangle in the Hunger Games was fundamental to the message of the story. There’s a very character based reason why Katniss had to choose between Peeta and Gale and it was integral to her development and to the plot.
But, a lot of these love triangles just feel like they’re here to delay the inevitable endgame ship that the audience wants, and personally, I thought the Gil/Nancy relationship was much better at developing a future Nace and creating drama and obstacles than Nelson/Nancy is. The Gil/Nancy plot also helped both Nancy and Amanda’s characters grow.
Even without the age/power gap (which is my biggest issue) I simply do not vibe with this ship. It doesn’t really add to the story to me, especially because it seems like the writers wanted to develop Nark at the expense of further developing the Drew Crew dynamic, which in my opinion is the heart of the show.
