Okay, personal thoughts on dragons rising under the cut. Spoilers ahead!
I didn't care too much about Wildfyre going into part 2. she was cool but not really a character I was fully invested in. That is, until her and Kai went on their little quest/mission to get the dragon energy core. They were so Sweet! I loved how Kai had to be the responsible one and how Wildfyre had to learn how to thikn before she acted. They're a really good dynamic and I their relationship growing during this season felt very natrual and good!
Zane! also not one of my favorite characters. But him speaking to a broom with Pixal's photo taped to it got to me okay? I do wonder now where she is.
Mr. Frohicky (idk how to spell things, i've been up all night. give me a break lol) I did Not expect him to return after the crossroads episode back in part 1. He's actually grown on me a lot. It's still kinda weird bc the tone of this show is just a Bit different than previous Ninjago. But it's not bad and I wouldn't hate seeing more of him in the future
Lloyd. God he got so much character develepment this season but especially in part 2! From him trying to do everything on his own to upkeep the Monastary and then finally excepting help, to getting much better at teaching the new ninja. I really loved all the scenes with him an Arin and how their relationship has gone from Arin being a fanboy, to genuine respect and friendship. 10/10
Speaking of Lloyd. What on Earth was all that stuff he saw Again when he acted as the conduit again? I really hope we get more info on those vision in the next season. That's the one big mystery that they havn't really touched on
last lloyd thing, mayeb it's just the angst lover in me, but I really hope there's some kind of conequence to him acting as the conduit. Maybe it starts really draining him or maybe it just makes accessing his power a little harder. I hope they explain it or at least like, mention it.
I'm actually kinda glad they didn't go the whole route of having Nya distrust the Djinn guy who'se name i can't remember lol. It was a nice expectation subversion. Bc my first thought was that he was gonna be evil/ have heard that *she* was the one who tecnically destroyed Djinnjago. I really like that they helped him the way they did and the lesson it taught Sora
Speaking of Sora. I love her. I still fully belive that her power is creation but if it is just 'tech power' i really like how they're handling it. LIke we all Knew it was never Ryu's power she was using but the moment *she* figured that out still felt genuine and deserved because we saw her go through the process of realizing whta was holding her back. 10/10. no notes
Freaking COLE! So him and Lloyd are tied as my favorite charaters bc yee. But holy shit even tho it was 5 am when i got to his episode and i was exhausted. I sat up on the couch and just lost my shit. One, he's still so good at finding people in trouble/captured and deciding he's their protecter. I love him so much. and two. was it just me or was that whole episode so freaking queer coded it isnt funny? Like, even more so than his true potential episode back in S1.
Shipping aside, I really like how on par with his character his episodes were. Even tho they were short and I really crave more about him, they did a good job of leaving just enough questions to keep us interested while also showing us the important parts. Plys the new ability rock monster thing is cool
in that same vein. what the fuck does 'the earth is screaming' mean? hello that shits terrifying? My theory atm is that its' the realms fighting the merge bc it's like unnatural or something. but idk. i would have liked to hear more about that
Zane's car!!!! I own that set and holy fuck it did not dissapoint! At first i was kinda bummed it didn't do Actual spinjitzu, at least I don't think so. But him spinning wildy and saying 'this is adequate' or whatever, is so freaking funny! also it's super fast and looks epic. no notes lol
and Jay! we see him! I'm not really a big jay fan but I am curious what theyr'e gonna do with him next season
and finally, i Really liked all the references to past seasons/events! Even if it wasn't in your face, it was still really nice to be able to see all the pices of the past sprinkled throughout. It was also funny to see Sora being surprised Lloyd is the FSM's grandson. 10/10
If i think of more I'll make another post lol
god i need to re watch the season already
i have SO many thoughts. HOw am i supposed to go to work later and be an adult while ive got these little plastic ninja running through my head at full speed

Misadventures of The Solars Scene: “A Monstrous Change for Terry”
Tumblr media
Terry sighs as he starts playing a video tape, which he thought was “Get Smart” but it turns out to be footage from his trip from Las Vegas. Terry groans in frustration.
Terry: This isn’t “Get Smart”! What the hell? *sighs in frustration* Better fast forward through this.
The footage fast forwards and then it stops, where is shows the part when Terry was doing poker at the betting card game.
Terry: Whoa! I did that? I bet I had a blast.
Terry looks at the footage closely but then…
Terry: *on footage; takes a deep breath* Easy mode. This is just like in the solo. I call and raise you… *throws the ships keys* An actual spaceship!
Terry gasps.
Terry: Wh-what? *drops his bottle of Mountain Dew*
Terry: *on footage; after losing bet to woman* Holy fuck… well at least no one will ever see this.
A heartbeat is heard. Terry pauses the tape as he began to realize in horror what he has done.
Terry: Oh my God… what have I done…
Terry starts breathing heavily before screaming in rage
Terry: WHY THE FUCK DID I THAT?!
Terry gets onto his knees and repeatedly punches the ground
Terry: GRRRR! I CAN’T FUCKING BELIEVE I DID THAT! NOW EVERYONE IS ON EARTH-4 BECAUSE OF ME!
Terry cries hysterically as his eyes turn orange
Terry: Oh God… I really fucked things big time…
Terry's fingertips turn black
Terry: *looks down at his fingertips and gasp in horror* Wha-what the fuck’s happening to me?!
Terry gets monstrous fangs as his skin turns black.
Terry: *screams in horror*
Terry grows bigger and muscular as he cries out in pain
Terry: *breathing and out as his growing body and his muscle growth causes his clothes to tear apart in pieces while looking at his hands* HELP! SOMEBODY HELP ME!
Terry roars in pain
Terry: *voice deepens as he breaks down in tears* Someone Help Me! *crying* Please… Anybody… Help me…
Terry roars as he finishes transforming and pants.
Monster Terry: *in his thoughts; repeating the last words he spoke* Someone Help Me! *crying* Please… Anybody… Help me…
Monster Terry roars and bangs his chest. He then looks at the city and smashes through the walls as he roars. The scene then cuts to the Replicants, Pupa and Replicant Sonya watching the news.
News Reporter: Breaking News Tonight! A huge black monster alien has just been spotting tonight while unknowingly wreaking havoc, such as cravings for meat, citizen attacks and very loud roars
Replicant Sonya: *recognizing the monster* Whoa! Look at Terry! He’s having a cow man!
Jesse gasps
Jesse: Oh no! Guys! We have to go find him!
The Shlorpian gang comes in.
Shlorpian Cheery: What is happening?!
Yumyulack: Why?
Shlropian Cooke: Because the news said there is a fucking monster on Earth-4!
Jesse: No! It’s okay! That’s Terry! We have to go help him!
Replicant Sonya: C'mon! Let's go!
The scene cuts to the woods where the gang (except for Korvo, he is not here in this scene) starts calling out for Terry.
Shlorpian Gang: Terry! Terry, where are you?! Terry?! Here Terry Terry Terry?! Where the fuck are you green ass! Oh good we miss you so much!
Human Jesse: Oh God, I hope he’s okay!
Shlorpian Nova: Man I hope so too!
A roar is heard
Human Yumyulack; Uh guys… di-did you hear that?!
Shlorpian Ms. Perez: I sure did and that doesn’t sound too good.
Another roar is heard. The gang starts back away in fear and caution backwards
Shlorpian Randall: O-okay no need to panic *loud footsteps are here* we just need too… *something appears behind him and his friends*
The gang turns around in fear and it turned out to be Monster Terry.
Shlorpian Gang: Oh shit! Whoa! *exclaims in horror* Oh!
Shlorpian Randall screams like a girl
Human Yumyulack: Oh my God! Terry, what the fuck have you done to yourself?!
Monster Terry roars and attacks the group
Shlorpian Randall: Oh fuck! I know what that means! We’re fucking lunch!
Shlorpian Trevor: Run guys run!
The Shlorpian gang runs for their lives as they head out of the woods with Monster Terry running after them like a savage animal. But then, Human Jesse trips on a rock and falls on her knee. Human Yumyulack gasps and runs up to his sister.
Human Yumyulack: Jesse!
Human Jesse: *sobbing*
Human Jesse cries in pain.
Shlorpian Sonya: Oh no! Sis! We have to get the out of here before-
Monster Terry finds the kids and snarls at them, which made Human Jesse sob harder.
Human Jesse: *tearfully* TERRY!
Monster Terry roars but then…
Human Jesse: *sobs harder* DADDY, STOP!
Monster Terry stops
Monster Terry: *murmuring upon seeing Human Jesse crying*
Monster Terry picks up Human Jesse
Monster Terry: *making soft noises upon seeing his daughter hurt*
Human Jesse: T-Terry?
Monster Terry purrs and looks at Human Jesse and wipes the tears off of her eyes with his hand. Monster Terry struggles to form words.
Replicant Sonya: Aw he miss us guys. But is he struggling to talk?
Human Yumyulack: Don’t know…
Monster Terry: J...J...Jesse?
Human Jesse: *gasp* Terry! *hugs her father while crying*
Monster Terry: It's okay, baby. I'm okay...
Then, Monster Terry sees brights lights and music.
Replicant Sonya: What is it daddy?
Monster Terry leaps up while carrying human Jesse and looks at a music performance happening at a Tiki restaurant.
Human Jesse: Uh guys, I think Terry has gotten interested to something.
Shlorpian Frankie: Well, we better follow him.

(in response) EXACTLY
canon nancy has been... through so much people-wise. apart from her blood family, nancy's had no one-on-one relationships survive, or end all that well
steve's out of high school, and it's pretty evident they don't spend much, if any at all, time together. jonathan's been in cali for a year, and the both of them are definitely aware things are sliding downhill. barb- well. barb and fred are pretty self explanatory. but the point is, ever since she lost barb, she hasn't really figured out how to be much of (and i mean this in the nicest way) a functioning member of human society
and honestly, it's not exactly clear if barb's death was the proper catalyst for this. because even before, nancy was struggling to maintain a balance between keeping her best friend + their relationship the same, and trying to date king steve. barb was absolutely right, nancy was acting Off and doing things that weren't true to herself
but after losing barb, nancy was. quick to spiral into place of depression and guilt and trying to deal with trauma while keeping her head above water and holding up appearances as virtually everyone around her, even those who were involved, seemingly moved on with their lives. idk what it was about nancy and barb, whether nancy loved barb or vice versa, or none of the above, but it seemed like that was her one true friendship. the only other times we see her hinting at having other friends is when she gets an invite handed to her at the door by tina, and when she tells her mom she's sleeping over at ally's or stacy's (though later we see karen. saying the wrong name which clearly implies that nancy doesn't talk much to her parents about said friends, because karen can keep track of mike's friends fairly well imo)
and exactly as you said !!!! fred's death dragged all of her insecurities and past traumas back up and into the open, and while she's trying to (once again) wrap all her interpersonal troubles up with duct tape and shove them in little boxes in her brain to deal with the more physical, earth-threatening issues at hand, robin hurricanes into her peripheral. so nancy starts to let robin in bit by bit, etc etc, and then. the finale. and of course nancy's gotta be the one (wo)manning the plan, because if she can do anything to make sure her loved ones aren't ripped away from her by this bastard, she will. except, the plan sorta goes to shit, through no fault of her own, and-
gOOD GOD WHEN WILL THE WRITERS PLEASE ADDRESS NANCY'S ONGOING TRAUMA WITH HER LOVED ONES !! because it seems like a good portion of the fandom writers are occupied kissing steve's ass (or having eddie kiss said ass) and yknow. there's nothing wrong with that ship, or having favorites who aren't nancy. but just... there's so much to explore and delve into, even if she's not always the easiest-to-love character. god this is so long and rambly i apologize
in conclusion, i love nancy wheeler, and i love her more for her flaws and the fact that she, badass who wields guns and kills monsters, hasn't quite figured out the living-a-normal-life part, especially when you try to throw her own emotions into the mix
SCREAMINGGGGG......THIS ALL OF THIS!!!!!!!! never apologize for sending a long nancy message to me bc it is truly the greatest gift anyone can bestow upon me and you are enabling to reciprocate by talking about nancy for a long time as well
ok um YES i agree with everything you said especially about stuff starting even before barb's death. i hate barb discourse (though i understand how the overhyping can lead to retroactive hatred) i just think the dismissal of either barb or nancy as a bad friend is just the most boring and lame way you can approach that dynamic. i love nancy going through normal teen girl struggles of wanting to be different but also wanting to fit in. and her relationship with barb being such a necessary element in this conflict. AND PEOPLE DONT UNDERSTAND THEY WERE LITERALLY CHILDHOOD GIRL BEST FRIENDS who were maybe intense and maybe had feelings for each other they could never quite understand. and that intensity can lead to things like jealousy/possessiveness/resistance to change. so maybe they were both bad friends or neither of them were but that doesn't even matter bc they were each other's best friend.
and i think post s1 nancy struggled so much trying to be a normal teen girl again. everything she longed for at the start of the show seems so frivolous to her now that she's experienced a loss that has shaken her. that's in part why her relationship with steve didnt work, it wasnt bc she associates his pool/their first time with barb's death (or at least it wasn't just that) it's that barb's death forced her to grow up and shattered the illusion of normalcy and complacency for her. she's like what did i use to want and why did i ever want that. and ever since mid-s2 then she's been gogogo, not stopping bc she knows the second she does 1)she has to face her own thoughts and feelings and 2) she feels like she has to protect people through her proactiveness, whether that's her loved ones or some innocent civilian being victimized by authority/government without accountability (does this make sense. she is a true for the people journalist imo) and so she can't stop.
but i really hope in the final season she can get a moment where she CAN stop. where someone makes her. sits her down and talks to her and tells her she doesn't have to responsible for everyone and every bad thing in the world. and i hope that person is EITHER robin or mike.
also i agree with you on that last point lol obviously anyone can like whoever they like (as long as it's not b*lly) and i like steve and eddie!!! but i feel like all of their scenes, characterizations, and possible backgrounds have been analyzed and talked about to hell and back. meanwhile nancy has not slept in 52 hours and is mean to people to keep them out so if she loses them it won't hurt as bad (but she still tries so desperately to save them) and acts more like an alert aggressive guard dog for her family rather than a daughter/sister atp and her face lights up when she finds her old stuffed animal and. no one is talking about it but she is literally THE CHARACTER OF ALL TIME. it's so annoying when people are like "i hate this character for [intentional character flaw/mistake that is literally what makes them so interesting]" GROW UP!!!
also it is going to be hilarious and sad when she shows up to emerson as this battle-hardened serious journalist freshman and she cant help but resent her roommate bc the worst thing that ever happened to her was her parents divorcing. nancy cannot be a functioning member of society at this point!!! and this leads perfectly into my "nancy gets laid off from a newspaper at age 27 and opens a supernatural detective agency" vision

April 23: 3x22 The Savage Curtain
Almost a week later, I finally return to write up my TOS notes on The Savage Curtain. I’d never seen this one before and while I did like it a lot, it was less of a ‘fun sci fi adventure’ and more of ‘well there’s a lot to unpack here’ episode. I’m not sure I can really work through all my thoughts, having only seen it one time. Rather, I have the beginnings of some thoughts and some opinions.
Starting out with Kirk checking out Spock’s ass—always a promising beginning.
Old space legends… my favorite. I legitimately love that part of their job is just investigating rumors.
Lol—it’s Lincoln! Floating through space!
Was Lincoln an alien? Is that the concept of this episode? No? Okay.
Really, no one’s ever said Lincoln is fascinating? Spock is the first one? That seems a stretch.
So they don’t measure time in minutes? I feel like this is a writer trying to be “extra future/sci fi” without thinking about… established minute-using canon.
Full dress uniform?! No one’s happy with that idea.
Robert the Bruce—played by CPine.
“Living rock with heavy foreclaws.” I’m not sure what this note is but I think it’s the description of what Lincoln really is for a second before he was beamed up.
TAPED MUSIC? What devilish invention is that??
Is he really happy to make McCoy’s acquaintance? The man is from Georgia.
At least they didn’t beam up Jefferson Davis. That would have been mad awkward.
Captain Sulu! (Because everyone else is off wearing their dress uniforms lol.)
Hmm, this is… interesting race stuff, I guess? Ngl, I was on the edge of my seat wondering about how they were going to write his interactions with Uhura, since that seems essential, but it was basically, like, well we’ve solved racism! Sort of what I expected. One of those sections that I feel I can’t unpack after one viewing but it’s also possible it’s just not that deep.
“We’ve each learned to be delighted with what we are.” I like that, though. Delighted. Put it on a poster at pride.
I kinda wish instead of saying “Why should I be offended? I don’t understand the concept of racial slurs,” she’d said, “Why should I be offended? I’m not American.”
Lol Kirk just forgot about Scotty in the conference room for an hour. Not a stunning job of being Captain there.
“Hey, Spock, why aren’t you.. sciencing?”
“I am observing the alien.” Same! I love observing aliens.
“President Lincoln was a personal hero to you.” Yet again a Jim-meets-his-hero story line! Except this time with the twist that the hero is not real but also not secretly a villain.
Also, Spock knows who Jim’s heroes are. So cute. I hope they have long, rambly conversations about their dreams and aspirations.
“I’m here at my job to meet aliens, so I’m gonna go down to the planet, and meet some frickin’ aliens!!” Classic Jim Kirk speech.
“Captain, I want to meet the aliens too!” You can’t deny Spock the aliens, man. He loves observing them.
I want to see more Scotty and Bones friendship. When Kirk and Spock are on a roll together, they’re the only ones who have a chance of slowing them down (maybe) and that’s the dynamic I want to see.
Interesting how this looks just like a lot of the other planets they’ve been to recently.
Spock knows Jim’s heroes but Jim doesn’t know Spock’s—be a better work husband, Jim.
Captain Sulu and Captain Scott!
“Image of Surak”—why is that so funny to me? Like Spock wants to be both respectful and accurate, and honestly, Surak (and his image) would probably appreciate that.
I want to see more Vulcans interacting with each other! Like all of this Surak and Spock dialogue is so interesting to me. Also, it’s sort of vindicating me in my characterization of Vulcans/Vulcan society in HAICG.
“May we together become greater than the sum of us.” Um, someone (who writes for TOS) ships K/S.
[B-52’s voice] ROCK MONSTER
This was their entire S3 budget. This giant rock monster puppet.
So the plot of this episode is they’ve been cast on Excalbia realty TV?
Come on, Kirk, you wanted to meet aliens, here is an alien!
"We learn by observing such spectacles." Well, they’re trying to educate themselves, that's laudable
“If you survive, you go free. If you don’t survive, well, I guess evil is better.”
This sounds like Arena except with more characters and for alien funsies rather than to teach a lesson to the participants.
“Mr. Spock and I remove ourselves from the narrative.”
Hmmm, it seems like all the historical figures are actually rock monsters.
I feel like Kirk actually does have a quarrel with the Genocide King over here.
Kirk’s pants are already ripped lol.
“You display no interest in the honor we do you.”
“You find my body heat distressing, Captain?” Yeah, Kirk that’s on you for trying to punch a molten rock creature.
“You may proceed with the spectacle.” Why is this rock alien my new goal in life?
JAMES. Not Abraham Lincoln calming him by the full first name.
Is comparing him to General Grant really a compliment though?
“Logic dictates” or “Surak says”? Is that not the same? Kirk is at a disadvantage here; half his team are pacificists.
Spock really is torn, I think. This is a tough spot for him: Surak is the source of all of his deeply held beliefs, but he also joined Starfleet, and he has made this pledge to follow Kirk, so now that unspoken tension in his life is coming to the fore.
"Perhaps it is our belief in peace that is actually being tested." I think that's right but I ALSO think the rock alien wants entertainment.
"Men of peace usually are brave."
"The father-image holds much meaning for us.” Yeah, we know, Spock. We’re aware.
Kirk is the unofficial chair of this committee. He’s the Captain even when he isn’t the Captain. He feels responsible for everyone.
Hmmm, interesting. That’s how they win? They’re the only ones who don’t run away from a final face-to-face fight?
“It would seem that evil retreats when forcibly confronted.” That’s the message.
Yet both sides use the same methods… Is that really true, though? I mean to the extent they had pretty limited means, I guess the fighting wasn’t that complex, but I would say that within that limited realm, they had fairly different strategies.
“What right did you have to do this to us?” / “The same right that brought you here, the need to know new things.” Touché.
And they used their fellow creatures as source material. Creepy.
Kirk sure does recover quickly. Now he’s on the bridge and he’s all cheery again. Gives me whiplash a little.
So, that episode was a lot. First off, I really like the rock monsters and the concept of the story: that the aliens of the week are just out here being curious—just like Kirk and the Enterprise crew, as the alien says at the end. The Federation does not have a monopoly on wanting to learn. My favorite aliens are always the ones who really seem alien, different, hard to parse because they’re just coming from a completely different background, with different morality, different method, etc. That seems to describe the Excalbians pretty well. Maybe there really is nothing wrong in their world with gathering up some interesting aliens, reading their minds, and making them work out a morality play for your amusement and edification.
Also, I thought it was interesting that the aliens maybe didn’t, for all their effort, actually learn anything? If all they got out of it was ‘well the two sides are roughly the same, but evil is more cowardly,’ I don’t think they were paying attention. For example, they did notice that Kirk didn’t want to fight until he was given a reason to, that he wasn’t naturally combative, but they didn’t notice that the evil guys needed no extra motivation. They were just down to clown. They wanted power, victory for itself, where Kirk and his people wanted to protect their own, or even just purely an end to the conflict that everyone could live with (Surak). That’s a pretty critical distinction. It doesn’t bother me that the aliens didn’t get it, since I took the point to be that they were still really early on in their studies, and not so much that the show itself, speaking through them, was claiming good and evil were essentially the same
Also the line “It would seem that evil retreats when forcibly confronted” is pretty baller.
On the one hand, declaring Kirk and his side the winners was kinda sudden and arbitrary, because they needed to win and the ep needed to wrap up. But at the same time, winning was never defined: was it the side who killed all of the other side? The side who got the other side to admit defeat? The side who gained territory of the other side? That it ended up being: the side that, no matter what, even facing losses, didn’t stop fighting, is interesting. It seems… inherently right to me (though also rushed).
I also feel like there's something in there about the values of loyalty and having a greater purpose--Kirk wouldn't ever stop because his people were at stake, but the evil guys had no loyalty to anyone, even each other, so they had no reason NOT to scatter. They only wanted power. There was no backbone to their fight: if their own lives were threatened, they’d run. They weren’t going to risk anything for each other or any other person or entity, whereas everything Kirk and his people did was for each other or for the Enterprise crew.
I appreciated that, unlike Arena (which I also like and which in some ways I think I like more than this one), the narrative wasn’t only or even primarily about combat or about physical strength. It really took the time to dig in, as much as possible in a single 50-minute episode, to the different philosophies: not just “good” and “evil” but the attitudes within Jim’s camp, and more specifically, the difference between Kirk and Spock, humans and Vulcans, a just war ideology and pure pacifism. And both sides were respected and made good points. It wasn’t just lip service to pacifism. Surak admitted that even in his time, the earliest ambassadors for peace were killed. It took time and perseverance, and bravery and commitment to the principles, to enact a revolution. And when he sacrifices himself, he does so only for himself, not speaking for others, or trying to convince anyone of anything; he has his principles and sticks to them, that’s all. He, and Spock, make very good points.
That Lincoln was the extreme embodiment of Kirk while Surak was the extreme embodiment of Speck was also… interesting.
Also, this ep really made me want to learn more about Vulcans. It’s another example of how different Spock is from his fellow Vulcans, and about what it meant for him, and Sarek, that he went into Starfleet, where, as he points out, he made promises to use force in certain situations, even though a “true” follower of Surak would not. Again, Spock clearly chooses to serve among humans and spend all his time around them because with them he is a true Vulcan, the expert on Vulcan-ness, whereas when contrasted with Vulcans, he seems more human than anything.
And I also want to know what the war that Surak ended was about.
This was not my favorite episode in terms of the scene-by-scene plot. It wasn’t bad in that sense or not enjoyable to watch but rather that the most interesting aspects of it were the questions it raises and the themes it discussed: war, just war, pacifism, good versus evil and what those terms even mean, etc. It didn’t come to any easy answers. I think that’s why I found Kirk’s attitude at the end rather jarring. It’s true that it’s very in character for him to return to his jovial, everyone’s-best-friend-the-captain persona as soon as the mission is over and the danger is passed, really no matter what was happening just before or how dire the situation was. But this time it seemed like there wasn't much time to go from his reasonable anger at the alien's behavior to being back on the ship and everything's fine. And it wasn't really resolved, whether or not the game was fair or what the aliens did learn or should have learned from it.
That said, I’m a big fan of the rock alien and its big claws. Idk, I just found it very endearing.
Overall, a lot to think about here, but it wasn’t preachy. It was clearly saying some stuff, but not in an obvious or spoon-feeding way. It felt to me sort of like a S2 episode, in a way.
Next up is an episode I have seen before, which I remember as being overall middling, but with some interesting Spock (and Spock and McCoy) content.

Sea Legs
My last fic before i go on hiatus for the duration of season 2.
Have a good one yall!
~ ~ ~
Luz stared listlessly out at the sea as the ship bobbed along; bored. The same rolling blue-green ocean stretched out for miles in every direction just as it had every day for the past month and a half, endless and unchanging. She loved the sea, really, she did; it was why she had left home the first minute she was able to and had joined the first ship that would take her.
The Tawny Owl was a 'merchant' ship. At least that was what it’s captain, Edalyn Clawthorne, or The Owl Lady or Cap'n Eda, as she preferred to be known, called it.
Even though Cap'n Eda used actual finger quotes around the word 'merchant', they definitely did sell things
Just, things that weren't theirs.
Luz didn't mind it really.
They didn't kill anyone… Well, she didn't. If people got unruly while Tawny Owl crew was trying to take their things then Eda was sometimes known to fire off a few rounds or toss someone overboard and 'let the ocean do as it would'.
King also had a bit of a mean streak when the moment struck him. The first mate was a small man with an ego and temper that was much larger than he was and was prone to exploding at a moment’s notice.
He cared though, in his own way.
Hooty, though, was… something else.
Despite their, sometimes, shady nature, Luz loved the Cap’n and the rest of the crew just as much as she loved the sea. She’d grown up on stories of sea monsters and daring adventures across the water in large, gallant ships. People going to far-off places to see new things.
That was what she wanted and she did get a lot of it. She’d met all kinds of people and characters in her five years sailing with Eda and the rest of the crew.
All that being said, sometimes, the long weeks and months at sea could be very, very boring.
Not all the time. Somedays, when they weren’t doing the usual tasks of tightening ropes, repairing sales or swabbing the deck they would fish over the side of the boat.
Most of them fished with a net or string, but Barrelman Hooty, would climb down from the crow's nest and dive straight into the water, knife clenched between his teeth.
Luz would never understand the large, muscular man, but he was nice and took care of her a lot. More than once he’d hauled her out of the way of danger but, even so, he was more than a little strange. Like how he liked to wear two eye-patches… even though both his eyes were fine.
She’s asked Eda once and the answer had been a shrug. There were some things that just defied explanation.
They had been out at sea for a month now, chasing after an actual merchant ship that had been rumored to have some incredibly rare and precious cargo on board that wasn’t exactly well guarded. That had been enough for Eda to have them heave to.
So now, here they were, weeks into a chase, well, sort of. They were sneaking up on the merchant ship a little more each day, waiting for the perfect time to hit it when they pulled into dock near Port Royal.
They should be coming up on it tonight and, in Eda’s words, were going to ‘Rob it blind and then blast it to kingdom come if we have to!’
Luz was content to wonder just what kind of priceless goods the ship could be carrying to not have much in the way of protection. Most of the time they did that so as not to draw attention to themselves. Of course, they’d hit their share of bum ships that they thought would have goods but hadn’t had much of anything, much to Eda’s chagrin. That was just the sort of risk they took.
She leaned her arms on the side of the ship, watching the waves lap at the worn wooden hull. The sun was starting to set and they would be moving in soon.
The plan was simple, in theory. They would pull into the dock and she would slip onto the ship while the rest of the crew made distractions of themselves. Hooty was really good at that too.
She stood there for a long while, getting lost in her thoughts and listening to the distant sounds of seagulls as they flew overhead; the heat from the sun was tempered by the cool breeze that was pushing them steadily through the water at a good clip. The sun had just started to set when she heard Hooty call down from the crows nest.
“Land, hoot!”
Luz shook her head at the strange man’s queer turn of phrase but looked up anyway and turned her eyes towards the horizon. Sure enough, she could see a dark smudge on the horizons, slowly growing
“Ya ready to go, kid?” A sudden voice called and Luz looked up as Eda walked up to her, grinning brightly, arms crossed over her chest and her maroon and gold captain's jacket hanging off her shoulders.
“As ready as ever, I guess,” she shrugged as Eda came to stand next to her looking out at the sea.
“That’s the spirit!” she laughed, slapping the young woman on the back as she snorted. Luz grinned at her. This would hardly be the first time they had pulled this trick. Luz was by far the quietest and most inconspicuous member of the crew and thus, the best suited for the job when stealth was required.
Quiet in the grand scheme of things? No but definitely the quietest and least destructive member of the crew.
They didn’t wanna fight if they didn’t have to.
They definitely would though if the occasion called for it.
“What am I looking for exactly?” Luz asked, brows furrowing as she looked at Eda, who shrugged.
“Anything that looks like it might be worth money.” She held up her fingers and rubbed them together with a grin.
“Right…” Luz nodded and Eda clapped her on the back one more time.
“No worries, kid. This will be an easy job,” Eda assured her and, with that, turned and walked back toward the helm where King was glaring at a map that looked suspiciously like it was upside down.
Eda said that about most jobs, but it wasn’t exactly as easy as she made it out to be.
Within the hour, they pulled into port and, just down the dock from them, was the large ship they had been following for the better part of a month.
They waited, watching it as the most of the crew filed off once night fell and made their way to the nearby tavern.
“You ready, kid?” Eda asked her and Luz nodded. “You know what to do.” She grinned as the rest of the crew moved off the ship, to throw their plan into action
Luz nodded and, with a canvas bag thrown over one shoulder, she took a breath before heaving herself overboard into the waiting, dark waters below. She hit the cold water in a sudden rush, becoming all but weightless for a moment as she plunged through the water.
No matter how many times they pulled this stunt, she never got tired of that part.
Except when it was really cold.
She surfaced with minimum noise and shook her head, wiping some water off her face as she swam toward the other ship. The closer she got, the more she could hear the yelling and fighting of metal clanging as cutlasses clashed and musket shots rang out in the night. Eda and the rest of the crew, already creating a distraction.
She swam up to the ship's hull and grabbed hold of one of the ropes dangling down into the water and tensed as she started to haul herself out of the water, carefully and slowly climbing up the side. The sounds of fighting was growing slightly more distant at this point. Her crew were leading whatever people had remained on the ship away. With a grunt, she hauled herself up, peeking over the side to the deck. It was empty and she flung herself over the side, pushing her sopping wet hair back out of her eyes. She moved quickly to the captain’s quarters and didn’t need to look long before she found the captain’s log and took it with her, flipping through to the back and finding the cargo log. She scanned the list quickly and found all the usual suspects. Spices, wood, soap. Nothing that really jumped out at her except one thing.
A very large crate, marked as exotic meat, heading to a well known and expensive eatery in the capital. There was nothing special about that though so she shoved the book into her bag and hurried back out onto the deck and scurried to the entrance that led below deck, where whatever they were carrying would be kept. Her time was ticking by quickly and she didn’t want to be left on board when the rest of her crew pulled back and this ship’s crew came back.
It was dim down in the hull of the ship; a few oil lamps hung from the wall, their flames flickering and casting long shadows across everything. She walked as quickly and quietly as possible across the creaky floorboards, eyes skittering across all the crates scattered around the room but nothing immediately stuck out to her as being important. She’d been with Eda long enough to have developed an eye for things that might be worth something, most of the time anyway. Most of the crates were marked with stamps for things she knew and had been marked in the log book. Tea, spices and the like but nothing like what Eda had expected to be here. There were a few sacks on the floor that she ruffled through and found some tiny bags or uncut gemstones, which she stored in her bag. It was better to come back with something than nothing at all.
She moved quickly, searching through everything she could but there was nothing here that Luz would call a ‘great treasure’ she grunted to herself, frowning. Eda wasn’t going to be happy but there wasn’t much to be done about it. As she moved, she caught sight of the large crate sitting against the wall and with nothing to lose, moved over to it. It was longer than she was tall and came up to her waist. She gave  it an experimental kick and jumped when something thumped back.
“Wha-!” She reeled back, blinking at the crate but nothing else happened. She leaned forward, hand raised and gently taped on the box but this time, there was no answer. She blinked at the box for a long second.
Maybe she’d imagined it?
Just as she was about to turn and go, the box thumped again, making her jerk.
Something was in there!
She looked around and quickly found a prybar, not even pausing to consider just what might be inside before she wedged the bar under the lip of the crate and with a grunt and a mighty crack, pried the lid loose, sending her stumbling back
It crashed over the side, falling to the floor and the sharp, salty smell of sea water immediately hit her. She took a cautious step forward and peered into the crate. It was full of dark, murky water and… something else. Something glimmered dimly just under the surface but it was too dark to see.
She ran over and grabbed one of the oil lamps hanging from a nail on the wall and moved back to the crate, holding the light over the lips of the box.
Something, green, glimmered below the surface and she leaned closer toward the water, squinting into the depths.
Suddenly the water sloshed and she jerked back with a shriek, landing flat on her butt on the floor and jarring her tailbone painfully as something broke the surface of the water. She scrambled to sit back up, fumbling for the lamp and holding it up in front of her.
Luz felt her jaw all but come unhinged as she stared back at… a woman?
A woman was staring back at her from the confines of the crate but she didn;t look like any woman Luz had ever seen before.
The first thing she noticed was her hair. It lay wet and flat against her shoulders in a bright shade of pale green that Luz had never seen on someone before with long strands of ruddy brown at the crown, pulled away from her angular face.
The next thing was her ears.
Long and pointed.
“Wha-” Luz continued to gape as a pair of bright, golden-colored eyes stared back at her in a glare.
Just when she thought she couldn’t be any more surprised, something else flipped up out of the water.
Long, blue-green fins attached to an expanse of scaly flesh. The scales seemed to shimmer and shine even in the low light of the lamps.
A tail.
A handful of stories from her childhood suddenly popped into the forefront of Luz’s mind. Tales of sea creatures, half-human and half-fish, that swam faster than any man could ever hope and had no need to breathe.
Old wives’ tales of pulling sailors under the depths to drown. Creatures that would steal and hoard the treasure from sunken ships.
“A mermaid…,” Luz heard herself mumble, almost unbidden. Her shocked stupor was broken only as the tail splashed back down into the water and droplets of warm, seawater splashed her in the face, making her blink. “Wow, you’re…” she scrambled back to her feet and took a step forward but then the creature… woman? The woman in front of her jerked back, spine pressed against the side of the crate, shoulders bunched up around her neck, and Luz stopped, holding up her hands. “It’s okay… I’m not gonna hurt you or anything,” she tried to calm her but those sharp eyes only continued to glare at her silently. Luz frowned, humming. “You probably don’t understand me,... do you?” she asked and, again, silence was her answer.
She moved slowly around the crate, careful not to actually get any closer but those golden iris’s never left her. Not that Luz could blame her. She wouldn't be happy about being shoved into a crate either. She had a swathe of bright magenta fabric wrapped around her chest, studded with what looked to Luz like sea glass and pearls. Their shiny surfaces catching in the light.
A real-life mermaid, just like in her stories! Luz could hardly believe her eyes.
“You must be the thing…,” she breathed quietly but then frowned. The thing they had come looking for…
She jerked, suddenly and again the sea creature jerked back, sloshing water out the sides of the crate but Luz didn’t notice as she dug the log book out of her bag and quickly scanned it and found absolutely no mention of any mythical sea creatures or even anything alive on their manifest.
In fact, the only thing that even came close to matching the description of the crate in front of her was the one line of text she had noticed.
Exotic meat…
“Ay dios mio, they're gonna eat you!” she yelped, dropping the book to the floor. She didn’t notice the way the woman’s eyes widened. “I gotta do something…,’ Luz mumbled to herself, pacing the room quickly and chewing on her bottom lip as her thoughts raced a mile a minute.
The ocean was only just outside… she only had to get her upstairs. Luz whipped back around to lock eyes with the mermaid, staring back at her.
She couldn’t just let some stupidly rich aristocrats eat a mermaid and call it exotic meat!
She took a step forward and, predictably, she pressed herself back against the far wall of the crate.
“It’s okay,” She held up her hands as she slowly approached but she could see it in the woman’s eyes, as clear as day.
Fear.
“I’m not gonna hurt you but if I don’t get you outta here soon, someone else will,” she spoke in low, quiet tones as she approached. Time was slipping through her fingers like sand as she spoke. They were both going to get it if she couldn’t get out of here quickly. She took another step forward and the creature’s lips pulled back over a pair of fang-like eyeteeth, trying to ward her away, her tail splashing angrily in the water and Luz paused.
There was no way she was going to let Luz get her out without a fight.
There was no way she was going to let people eat a rare and mythical creature.
“Okay then!” She bowed up and the woman seemed to draw back some but the snarl never left her face and then Luz quickly covered the last few paces to the crate and grabbed her.
To predictably disastrous results.
Apparently, mermaids have claws; who knew?
Luz let out a pained sound as she dragged the struggling creature out of the crate, hauling it over her shoulder and sloshing sea water everywhere as she felt the sharp lashes of claws digging painfully into her back, searching for an escape.
She turned and ran, doing her best to keep her balance as a long, muscular tail whipped around frantically and the woman growled and snarled in her grip as she clawed at her.
“I’m just trying to help you!” she yelled as she sprinted up the stairs, panting. She was solid and the thrashing around while mauling her didn’t help Luz in the least.
She managed to make it up onto the deck, still flailing as she stumbled around, trying to maintain her balance as the woman thrashed in her arms.
“Please be still!” Luz hissed, voice pitching as she felt another talon dig through her thin tunic, shirt, and skin. Why did she have to be so dang nice!?
Just as she was crossing the deck the woman reared back in another attempt to break free and then blinding pain shot across Luz’s face in a trail of fire from above her eye down her cheek.
“Argh!” She stumbled but managed to keep her footing and made a beeline straight for the side of the ship, despite the warm blood she could feel dripping down her face. She didn’t hesitate to throw the woman over the side, watching as she hit the water with a splash. She didn't resurface but Luz figured she’d swam off the moment she’d hit and then she realized the sounds of fighting had stopped.
“You, stop!”
She looked over her shoulder to find the crew had returned and were darting across the deck toward her.
“Bye!” she grinned, wiggling her fingers.
She threw herself over the side of the boat and fell to the water with a splash. Limbs akimbo as she hit the water like a cannonball and didn’t even pause before she started swimming back to the Tawny Owl, beneath the dark water. The salt water burned her myriad of cuts but that was much preferred to a musket shot through the back so she never slowed, holding her breath as she moved through the water back toward the ship.
When she finally resurfaced with a gasp, it was on the other side of the ship, out of sight. She panted as she swam off to the dock and hauled herself up onto the planks. Now that the adrenaline was wearing off she felt every gash in her skin with striking clarity and she didn’t like it at all.
It. Hurt.
She walked down the dock toward the Tawny Owl , consoling herself with the thought that she had done the right thing. Even if the recipient hadn’t exactly been grateful about it…
She wiped a sopping wet arm across her face and pulled her sleeve back to see the blood quickly seeping into the fabric of her sleeve. She’d gotten her good too.
Eda was waiting for her when she finally climbed up the plank.
“Hey, Kid, how was - What the hell happened to you?!” Eda’s shout got the attention of all the rest of the crew as she jogged forward, eyes darting over Luz’s bloody face.
Luz paused. She couldn’t very well tell Eda she had rescued a mermaid from being someone's dinner. She probably wouldn't have even believed her to start with and, even if she did, knowing the opportunistic captain, Eda would’ve wanted to sell her for sure.
“They had… dogs,” she said after a moment.
“Dogs?” Eda repeated and Luz nodded.
“Guard dogs, they attacked me down in the hold,” She quickly lied as Eda looked at her back and chased a breath at whatever she saw.
“They tore you up, Kid…, You best go down and see Viney,” she said and Luz nodded; it felt like it.
“So what, we got nothing from all that time?!” King’s sudden squeal made her stop and Eda looked at her questioningly.
“I did manage to grab these, that was really all there was except some crates of tea and stuff.” She dug through her bag and handed over the little bags of gemstones, which Eda appraised for a moment before nodding and slipping them into the inner pocket of her captain’s coat.
“We can make some decent money off these, not a total loss, good job, Kid. Now, go see Viney, you’re bleeding all over my freshly swabbed deck!” She ordered and Luz didn’t need to be told twice before hurrying down to see the ship’s doctor.
Viney whistled loudly as she examined the litany of long cuts in Luz’s skin as she wiped away the blood.
“Them things got you good, didn’t they?” she commented as Luz sat on a stool in front of her, bandages in hand.
“Yeah,” Luz mumbled with a nod. Her whole back was a mass of throbbing but Viney assured her she would be fine, so the deckhand contented herself with playing with the doctors large, black parrot, Puddles.
“Strange though….” she hummed and Luz glanced at her over her shoulder.
“What?”
“You don’t have any bites… just all these long gashes… are you sure it was dogs?” she asked and Luz paused in her petting of the bird.
“Oh yea… big ones,” Luz nodded and Viney just hummed but said nothing else about it. Once she was all patched up, Viney sent her on her way with orders of no heavy lifting till her gashes closed up some.
She caught sight of herself in the dirty mirror as she stood to go and saw the bloody gash that trailed from just over her left eyebrow and down her cheek, thankfully, missing her eye. That was going to leave a mark for sure.
“Hey, I finally got my first cool scar!” She grinned and from behind her, Viney just laughed.
~  ~  ~
The day was bright and a gentle breeze was blowing across the sea as Luz sat on a plank lowered down the side of the ship as she used a knife to scrape the barnacles off the hull.
It was ‘chore day’ on the Tawny Owl and that meant all of the general maintenance required to keep them afloat like mending the sails and replacing old, frayed ropes. They sat out in the middle of the ocean so they wouldn't be bothered while they worked.
Since she was off any kind of heavy lifting duty’s, per Viney’s specific orders, Eda had given her the easiest job on the ship. Luz was pretty sure she felt bad for sending Luz down into a ‘dog infested’ hull to grab loot too.
The truth was a secret Luz would take to her grave.
She and Eda were pretty close but she didn’t want to test that by telling her that she’d been mauled by a honest to goodness mermaid; a mermaid that someone would probably pay through the nose for. Luz had literally thrown a fortune overboard. That wouldn’t be a fun conversation to have.
She hummed along to the sound of the song the rest of the crew was singing up on deck as it wafted down to her by the water.
“To bring us sugar and tea and rum!” she sang quietly to herself, head bobbing along to the jaunty tune as she wedged the blade under another barnacle.
She let her mind drift back to that fateful night. She could still clearly see the glint of those scales in her mind, could still see the pointed ears and eyes as bright and shiny as the doubloons Eda was always running through her fingers in her quarters.
A real, living mermaid. She could still hardly believe it and might have thought it all a dream had her throbbing back and newly scarred up face not confirmed the reality of the situation.
Luz was still struck by how otherworldly and pretty she had been… despite the whole mauling thing...
Who in their right mind would think to eat one?!
She was lost in her thoughts when the sound of splashing water made her look up and turn. The gentle waves lapping at the boat seemed undisturbed and she didn't see anything. More than once she’d been down here and something had jumped out of the water and smacked her before, so she kept a careful eye out. You only needed to be smacked in the face by a tuna once to learn that lesson.
Seeing nothing, she turned back to the task at hand but as she turned she did spot something, sitting on the plank beside her.
An oyster shell sat on the wood beside her and sitting there, inside it, was a pearl.
“Huh?” Luz looked around but was greeted by nothing but ocean waves. She set down her knife and picked up the oyster, it was still wet and dripped as she carefully rolled it out onto her palm. It was perfectly round and smooth between her fingers.
“Where… where did it come from?” she mumbled, scratching her head with her other hand as she gazed down at the small jewel. With a shrug she slipped the pearl into the front pocket of her shirt and turned back to the task at hand but she couldn’t shake the feeling that she was being watched.
She nearly forgot about it entirely until a few days later.
They had come to a stop in the middle of the ocean to fix a tear in the mainsail at about sundown and while they did, Luz lowered herself down to the water in one of the rowboats, determined to do some fishing while she had the time and Hooty was too busy helping with the sails to go diving into the water, scaring them all away.
The boat bobbed along in the, for once, placid water. There was hardly a breath of wind, as was often the case at this time of day. When the sun began to sink over that distant horizon it caught the sea ablaze in sparkling hues of red, orange, and pink. The ocean sat quiet, or, as quiet as it ever got.
The tear in the sail came from a little... incident between Hooty and King rather than any storm or winds. Luz hummed to herself as she cast out her line and set her little driftwood pole against the side of the boat. Now all she had to do was wait.
Admittedly, that was not her strongest suit.
So, she picked up the old worn book at her side and flipped it open, the pages filled with a great number of charcoal sketches. Some were messy, a jumble of lines and shapes with no rhyme or reason while others were smooth, refined, and accurate to life in their detail. Fish and other sea life spread across the parchment.
She was pretty happy with some of them.
She flipped to the last sketch she had been working on and frowned to herself. Sketchy lines and rough shading of a long, scaly tail and a face with pointed ears. She wasn’t happy with it. She needed more than a few moments of seeing her but that wasn’t going to happen now, so she did the best she could.
The warm, waning sunlight glared into her eyes as she sat hunched over her sketchbook, looking up occasionally to check her line. In an hour she’d caught one measly little fish about the length of her palm and not much else.
She sketched out another line and frowned to herself when she pulled back to look at it. It was all wrong! She grunted and set the charcoal between the crease of the pages and closed it with a snap, setting it off to the side.
She leaned back in the boat, looking up at the clear blue sky, and sighed. Her mind inevitably went back to thinking about the mermaid whenever she had a spare moment. All those stories she had heard and read as a kid, all the tales of grand adventures and mystery that had led her to this life to start with and she had finally come face to face with something truly incredible…
...and it had tried to maul her.
To be fair, she probably would have been scared and less than welcoming if she’d been stuffed in a crate and was being shipped out to be some governor's exotic dinner. They had been trailing that ship for a month. She had to have been in there for at least that long, probably longer. Did they feed her or just leave her in a dark, water-filled crate?
Luz frowned to herself and closed her eyes. The thought made her angry.
At least she was free now.
Probably somewhere far away.
There was a sudden splash and, before Luz could even open her eyes, something large, wet and wriggling slapped her in the face.
“Argh!” She sat up, eyes snapping open as a large tuna fell into her lap, flopping and flinging seawater everywhere. “Mierda!” She tossed it off her onto the floor of the boat where it flopped around. “What the hell?!” She blinked at it for a long moment before the sound of sloshing water made her turn and her jaw hung open.
A pair of golden eyes were peering up at her from just above the water a scant few feet away.
Luz sucked in a sharp breath as she stared back at the eyes looking back at her.
“You…,” she mumbled. She could hardly believe her eyes.  “You’re here!” she jerked forward and the eyes reared back before disappearing beneath the water. “No, don’t go!” Luz called, scrambling for the other side of the boat and half throwing herself into the water.
She didn’t even register the saltwater stinging her eyes as she looked around frantically. The water was bright and clear and she blinked, coming face to face with those eyes again, blinking back at her in clear surprise. Luz opened her mouth to speak and bubbles poured out as saltwater rushed into her mouth.
She reared back, flinging water as she flopped back into the boat and choking on the water she’d swallowed.
Luz hacked and coughed, spitting up water, not noticing the eyes now peeking up over the side of the boat, watching her.
“Ugh!” she spat out the water and pushed the wet hair out of her face, blinking to clear her eyes. “Right… air,’ she grumbled to herself and wiped the water off her face.
She looked up and saw the creature looking at her over the rim of the boat.
“You’re here…” She honestly didn’t know what else to say in the face of a mythical creature staring back at her from the water with bright, curious eyes.
Till she did.
“Why are you here…?” she seemed to mumble more to herself than anything and she moved forward. Once more, the skittish creature dove under the water but Luz didn’t follow this time.
Not as far anyway. She leaned over the side of the boat and glanced into the water.
Just below the surface, the woman was staring back at her.
The large fish flopping around hit her leg and she glanced at it before turning her attention back to the water with sudden realization.
“You threw that up here… why?” she cocked her head.
The woman’s eyes seemed to linger on Luz’s face. It took Luz a moment to realize she was staring at the long, scabbed-over gash running down her left cheek.
She flicked her tail in a slow, almost sorrowful movement and Luz found herself mesmerized by its floating path through the water behind her, smooth and languid.
She dragged her eyes back to the mermaid's face. The creature brushed back floating tendrils of green hair and blinked slowly at her. Golden eyes lowered demurely as the face twisted in an expression that Luz recognized immediately: regret.
"You… wish that hadn't happened?" she asked.
The mermaid looked at her for a long moment and nodded. Then she darted forward, emerging from the water with a splash that made Luz lunge backward in fright.
The mermaid looked at the human, huddled in a crumpled heap at the bottom of the boat and sighed.
"I'm sorry... for what happened," she said finally, her voice low and her eyes quickly darting away from Luz’s.
Luz blinked up at her for a long moment as she held herself up on the side of the boat, making it tip dangerously under her weight.
“You do talk!” Luz jerked forward and the woman tensed but didn’t dive back into the water, though she did flinch away slightly.
“Yes…,” she mumbled and glanced back at the human only to find her staring up at her in wide-eyed wonder. Eyes, all but sparkling in the glinting light of the setting sun.
“This is amazing…” Luz mumbled to herself, absolutely flabbergasted, eyes darting everywhere. She was back, right here in front of her!
Suddenly, her brows furrowed as a thought occurred to her and she looked up at, brown meeting gold.
“Why are you here?” she asked, cocking her head and the mermaid turned away from her, pushing a few strands of wet, green hair behind her ear.
“I wanted to say thank you… for saving me… and I’m sorry… for the… clawing,” she mumbled, waving a hand over her own face. Luz reached up to touch the rough scabs over her cheek.
“It’s okay,” Luz said simply and then those gold eyes swiveled back to her. Shock and confusion clear in their metallic depths.
“It’s… how can you just say that… I…” She glanced down at the long, sharp claws that tipped each finger.
Luz arranged herself more comfortably on the floor of the boat, tipped precariously under Amity’s weight leaning on it.
“I probably woulda lashed out too if someone shoved me in a crate for who knows how long…,” she said with a little shrug. “I’ll heal” She waved a hand dismissively.
The creature still didn’t look content with that but nodded.
“Thank you…” she trailed off and Luz perked.
“I’m Luz.” She grinned, holding out a hand.
The woman blinked down at it for a second.
“Humans shake it when you meet new people,” Luz explained. Mermaids probably didn’t do that. Why did humans? Something to ask Eda later.
Hesitantly, she reached out and wrapped her hand around Luz’s, who gave a gentle shake. Her skin was damp but soft and smooth under Luz’s calloused grip.
“Amity,” she said and Luz grinned even wider.
She pulled back and happened to catch sight of the sea glass attached to the fabric wrapped around her chest and had a sudden realization.
“You left the pearl!” she suddenly yelped, making Amity jerk back at the sudden yell. “A couple days ago, when I was down by the water…”
“Oh… yes, that was me…,” she nodded.
“Have you… been following us this whole time?” she asked and Amity nodded her head. “Why? Just to tell me thanks?” Luz cocked her head and Amity’s eyes darted away, her tail flicked lazily out of the water, slapping the surface and disappearing again. She seemed to hesitate for a moment before nodding.
“Yes, I… I didn’t know where I was being taken or what was going to happen until you showed up and said…” she seemed to trail off.
“That they were going to eat you?” Luz asked and she nodded.
“Yes… so, thank you.”
“You’re welcome.” Luz smiled and before she could think to say anything else, a voice from up above called out to her; Morton.
“Hey, Luz! The sail's fixed, so we’re gonna get going, you ready to be hauled up?”
The boat suddenly rocked violently, sloshing water and Amity vanished beneath the rippling surface just as Morton stuck his head over the edge up above her.
Luz blinked at the water where she had vanished before turning up to the deckhand and nodding.
“Yeah, I’m ready,” she called, frowning and Morton nodded.
“Hey Hooty, come help me haul up Luz!” She heard him call, followed by an excited yell of agreement. A second later she was being hauled quickly up the side of the ship but her eyes were glued to the water below. A shadow moved through its depths before disappearing.
The second she hit the deck she grabbed her book and her fish and hurried off down to the kitchens.
~ ~ ~
A week later, Luz was still thinking about her meeting with Amity and wondering if the mermaid had left now that she had finally said what she wanted to Luz. They had been sailing along at a quick clip, heading towards Eda’s favorite place in all the seven seas; The Boiling Isles.
A collection of islands in one of the more dangerous areas of the sea. It housed a number of ramshackle little towns and bases, the majority of its residents being of the… non-law-abiding variety.
They managed to knock over a couple of merchant's vessels along the way and finally got a hoard that Eda was happy with, so she declared that they could take a couple week's rest and they returned to their own little reinforced hamlet in one of the Isles' many coves.
It was dark when Luz threw her things down in the meager shack nestled between Eda’s and Viney’s before heading back out to the beach. The moon was full and cast enough light in the clear sky that she could see just fine. It was late but the rest of the crew was in full swing of a drunken stupor and the yelling and screaming of their revelry echoed out into the bright, starlit night; there wasn’t going to be any sleep even if she wanted to.
Instead, she picked her way over the large black rocks that lined the shore and led out into the water. Her steps were careful, the lapping waves making the rocks slick in places but this was hardly her first time.
It wouldn't be her first time falling in either, and probably wouldn't be the last either.
Still, with her sketchbook firmly in one hand and a small bundle of goodies in the other, she made sure not to step anywhere the moonlight bounced off the wet stones before settling herself onto a large, flat rock that jutted out over the water. She flipped it open and grabbed the charcoal laying between it’s pages.
After the other day, she had a much clearer picture in her head and set to sketching. It was kinda rough at first. It had been a few days but she’d had a dream about glinting, blue-green scales and sharp ears.
She really wished she had some way to color it. Black just didn’t seem to do the lines justice; it would have to do though.
The distant sounds of her crew drinking and singing were nothing more than a whisper over the sound of the gentle waves lapping against the rock. She was zoning out, tongue poking out of her mouth as she worked carefully to get a line just right when a splash, not loud but distinctly louder than the rest, made her look up.
She nearly jumped out of her skin when she caught the pair of dimly glowing, gold eyes staring back at her from the other side of the rock.
“Amity!” She jerked, scrambling to the edge of the rock as the mermaid lifted further out of the water as she approached.
“Hi, Luz.” She smiled up at her and Luz couldn’t help but think how pretty she was when she wasn't snarling and growling at her anyway.
“What are you doing here?” she asked, setting her book to the side, careful to keep it away from the water dripping off Amity as she leaned her arms on the rock.
“I… uh…,” she mumbled, claws clicking on the rock as she tried to think of something to say and Luz couldn’t help the smile working its way onto her face.
“Did you follow us here?” she asked and grinned wider at the pale pink that seemed to break across Amity’s face. “Not that I’m complaining about seeing you again but don’t you have anything better to do than follow around a bunch of grumpy pirates?” she laughed.
Amity grew quiet at that and Luz frowned at the sudden tight look in her eyes.
“What’s wrong?” she asked quietly. Amity seemed to hesitate before looking up at her.
“I don’t know how to get back home,” she quietly admitted. “I don’t know how long I was in that box or even what direction it went,” she mumbled, voice tight and Luz’s eyes widened. She hadn’t thought about that.
They had been chasing that ship non-stop for the better part of a month and there was no telling how long Amity had been on board beforehand. She could be hundreds of thousands of miles from where she started.
“You don’t have any idea where you came from?” Luz asked and Amity shook her head, eyes trained on the rock beneath her. Her claws creating little gouges in the stone as she clenched her hands. Luz didn’t know what to say. ‘Sorry’ seemed sorely lacking but what else could she say?
“Do you want some candy?” was the next thing to pop out of her mouth and Amity looked up at her, questioningly.
“Can..dy?” she repeated the unfamiliar word and Luz nodded and scrambled back over to where she had left the little cloth-wrapped bundle. She snatched it up and hurried back over to Amity, sitting cross-legged in front of her as she untied the knot. A small pile of crystalline-coated fruits rolled around in her lap as she looked through them before selecting one and holding it out to Amity.
“It’s a type of human food. It’s sweet and they're really tasty. This one is my favorite,” she offered it out and the mermaid hesitated a moment before plucking the rock-like food from Luz’s palm. She hesitated, eyes darting up to look at Luz, searching and the human just smiled.
She popped it into her mouth and paused.
Luz watched her, silently, feeling herself grin as Amity’s eyes widened, sparkling with awe and delight. Her amazement doubled as she watched the two pointed ears twitch and it was maybe the cutest thing Luz had ever seen.
“It’s… really good,” she mumbled around the treat, face breaking out in a smile. Her tail flipped out of the water, to flick lazily this way and that, sending droplets of water into the air.
“Right?” Luz asked with a chuckle as she popped one into her own mouth and set them on the rock in front of her, within Amity’s reach. Gold eyes flicked up at her, a silent question and Luz smiled. That seemed to be all the encouragement she needed to grab another.
“So, what are you going to do?” she asked and Amity frowned around her treat.
“I don’t know yet…” she admitted and Luz pursed her lips.
“Well, you’re welcome to hang out here with me till you do,” she offered and Amity looked up at her.
“Okay…,” she nodded.
They sat there for the next few hours as the moon made its way across the sky, talking. Luz told Amity about all the different places she had been and things she’d done since joining Eda’s crew. It amused Luz how fascinated she was by the simplest of human things. Some things, like ships she was familiar with but anything on land was new and wondrous to her and Luz happily explained everything to her; as best she understood it anyway.
“What’s that?” amity pointed a finger to the book in her hand.
“Oh! It’s my sketchbook.” She flipped the pages open to show Amity some sketches of the crew and a few animals.
“Oh…”
She flipped through a few more pages, Amity asking questions about the things like the horses, and dogs sprawled across it’s pages. Luz was hardly paying attention to the pages, more content to watch Amity’s face light up at each new drawing.
Till she flipped the page and Amity blinked.
“Is that… me?” she asked.
“Huh?” Luz leaned the book back and felt her face heat up as she stared down at her first, rough sketch of the mermaid. “Oh…. uh… yeah,” she finally said and reached up to rub the back of her neck nervously. She hadn’t meant to show her those.
“It doesn’t look finished…,” was all she said.
“No, I started this right after…”
You mauled me.
She wasn’t gonna say that!
“...after we met. I couldn’t remember everything well enough, so I gave up on it.” she shrugged as they lapsed into, what felt to Luz, tense silence. The gentle sound of the surf breaking against the rocks and shore was the only sound for a long few moments.
“What about now?” she asked and Luz blinked at her. Her confusion must have been apparent because she carried on. “Do you think you could finish it now?” she asked, looking up at Luz, eyes filled with such bright curiosity and wonder that it made her breath stutter in her chest.
“Yeah… I think so,” she nodded. “I’ll work on it,” she promised and Amity nodded, seemingly indifferent but Luz could see the subtle rise at the corners of her mouth.
Eventually, the hour grew quite late, or early, and Luz noticed that the sounds of her crew had petered out into silence, no doubt they had all passed out by now. She herself was growing tired now.
Amity noticed too as her head started to bob down to her chest more and more often, eyes drifting closed.
“You should sleep…,” she said as Luz let out a jaw-splitting yawn and nodded drowsily. She stood and stretched, back giving a satisfying pop.
“Yeah… will you be here tomorrow?” she asked, turning her gaze back to Amity as she picked up her things.
Amity stared up at her, face a mask of surprise and wonder before she schooled it into something more neutral and nodded.
“See ya tomorrow then!” Luz called before picking her careful way back down the rocks toward the shore.
Amity watched her go.
~ ~ ~
When they were docked, everyone kind of did their own thing if there wasn’t any repair work that needed to be done to the ship, as was sometimes the case after a raid. So no one really questioned it when Luz went darting down to the sea around noon the next day after throwing a canvas bag with some things in it into one of the rowboats sitting on the shore.
No one except Eda, who was down by the water, looking at the ship.
“Where’s the fire, kid?” she asked as Luz started shoving the boat out of the sand and into the water. “Don’t you get enough sailing already?” she laughed as Luz hopped in the boat.
“Just… enjoying the peace and quiet on the water, ya know how it is!” she laughed nervously but Eda nodded.
“Be careful,” she called before walking up the plank onto the ship.
Luz picked up the oars and rowed out into the ocean. Once she’d muscled her way through the swells moving inland the open water was smooth and placid, as gentle as it ever was anyway. The peaceful, constant movement bobbed her boat gently as she threw down the anchor.
She’d never exactly discussed with Amity where they would meet but the mermaid didn’t seem to have any trouble finding her either.
She waited, listening to the sounds of the surf for a little while before a gentle splashing made her grin as a familiar head of green hair broke the surface of the water.
“Amity!” Luz grinned down at her.
“Hi, Luz,” the mermaid smiled up at her shyly, brushing a few strands of wet hair out of her face.
“Where did you stay last night… Do mermaids even sleep? She asked, tapping a finger to her chin, suddenly curious and Amity snorted.
“Yes, I sleep. I stayed in the coral reef below us,” she said.
“There's a coral reef below us?” Luz asked wide-eyed and Amity nodded. This was the first time she had heard of it but then again, she wasn’t surprised her crewmates didn't appear to know about it. One of the most surprising things she'd learned as a pirate was that a great majority of sailors couldn’t swim or were even afraid of the ocean. That was just crazy to Luz, she loved to swim.
That little fact was one of the reasons Eda often put her on duties that took her very near or in the water. As far as she knew, herself, Hooty, and Viney were the only members of the crew that would get within ten feet of water deeper than their waist.
“As in, directly below us?” she asked, and again, Amity nodded. “Can you show me?” she asked and Amity’s eyes widened.
“You can swim?” she asked, seeming to peer over the edge of the boat at Luz’s legs, looking in disbelief. That only made the pirate laugh.
“Of course I can swim. I am an excellent swimmer!” she jerked a thumb toward herself but faltered. “I mean, not even half as good as you probably, but for a human, I'm great!” She asserted and Amity giggled under her breath.
“Okay, I’ll show you,” she nodded and Luz dumped her canvas bag out, pushing everything under one of the slatted benches to keep out of the sun and slung it over her shoulder.
“Why do you need that?” Amity questioned as she moved around.
“Coral makes great medicine, the ship's doctor, Viney, crushes it up to use in ointments and stuff. She mentioned we were running low and would need to stock back up before we left the Isles. I can kill two birds with one stone!” she explained.
“Why would you kill birds?” The mermaid cocked her head.
“It's just an expression, nevermind that. Let’s go!” She grinned before taking a deep breath and diving over the side of the boat, into the water with a loud splash.
Luz opened her eyes and the water briefly stung but she was pretty used to it and glanced around before finding Amity, looking at her curiously and she grinned, careful not to let out any air or let water in.
She definitely wasn’t as good a swimmer as Amity, whose every movement propelled her quickly through the water with ease, down toward the ocean floor.
They weren’t too far out, so the water wasn’t terribly deep here and she got down there quick enough. She could see all the brightly colored plants and fish moving about the coral. She dug the knife out of her bag and quickly set about cutting off some of the long branches before the burning in her lungs made her shove both back inside and move quickly back toward the light.
She broke the surface with a gasp, panting as she sucked in large lungfuls of air.
“Are you okay?”
She glanced over at Amity, who had surfaced next to her and she nodded.
“Yeah, it's just deep enough that I can get there for just a minute before I need air,” she huffed, finally getting her breath back.
Amity hummed before grabbing her hand, making Luz blink.
“Hold your breath,” she instructed and Luz did so just before she was pulled under and they were moving quickly through the water toward the ocean floor.
The water rushed past her face as Amity pulled her down.
Yeah, definitely not even half as good a swimmer as her.
She was able to cut off a good bit and stuff it in her bag before she had to resurface again.
“That was way faster!” she turned to Amity and grinned. “You are a good swimmer!” Luz laughed.
Amity’s face seemed to color some at that and she shrugged.
Luz tossed her bag into the boat before taking a breath and diving back under. Moving back toward the bottom before a hand wrapped around hers and pulled her down to the bottom. The water rushing past her was exhilarating.
As was the hand wrapped firmly around hers and the blurry grin she could see on Amity’s face through the bubbles.
When she finally came to a stop, she grabbed hold of the coral to stay anchored and couldn't help but smile at all the colorful little fish and bright plants that moved about. She reached out to touch a cobalt bluefish but it quickly darted out of her reach.
They spent a long while exploring the depths around the shore before Luz finally had to climb, exhausted, back into the boat, flopping onto the floor. She was exhausted but didn’t wanna head back in yet.
Amity laid her arms on the sides of the boat and it dipped a little, making Luz slide toward her and she laughed, sitting back up.
“Oh, I brought you something” Luz pulled her things out from under the bench and unwrapped it. Amity peered at her curiously as she held out… something.
“It’s sweet bread,” Luz explained as Amity took it. “They were selling them over by the docks. I thought you might like to try it.”
She watched Amity take a tentative bite… quickly followed by several more.
“Good, right?” she asked, still holding her own in her hand. Amity nodded as she polished off the rest of hers quickly. Her eyes darted to Luz’s and she couldn’t help but grin and hold it out.
“That’s yours…” Amity frowned.
“I can get more later,” Luz assured her, still holding her hand out. Amity still hesitated but Luz just patiently held out the treat and after a moment she finally took it and devoured it like the first.
“Thanks,” she mumbled and Luz just grinned, pushing back the wet hair that had fallen in her face. Amity watched her intently.
“What?” Luz cocked her head and watched the mermaid's face flush.
“Nothing!”
“Uh, okay?” Luz blinked.
They spent the rest of the afternoon sitting there, talking and enjoying each other’s company before Luz finally had to go back in.
“I’ll see you tomorrow!” she called with a wide smile as she rowed back toward the shore.
“Bye, Luz,” Amity waved, then vanished under the waves, tail flipping out of the water for a moment before she was gone.
Luz felt her heart stutter in her chest.
~ ~ ~
The two weeks they spent docked on the Isles seemed to fly by for Luz. She woke early and got all the things she needed to do for the day out of the way and then made a beeline for the water.
She spent hours at a time bobbing along in the rowboat with Amity and always made sure to bring her treats from the little market in the Isles ‘capital’ Bonesburough.
The mermaid had proven to have quite a sweet tooth.
She often brought Luz things too, from the ocean floor. She’d amassed a small trove of gemstones, pearls, and shells that Amity had picked up out of the sands deep below them.
Luz laid, floating on her back on the water. Amity had her head laid across her stomach, her eyes closed. Where she was so heavy on land, she was nearly weightless in the water.
Her head on Luz’s abdomen did funny things to her stomach and she briefly wondered in the back of her mind if it was weird… to have a crush on a mermaid.
It took her a week to figure it out. Once she got past the awe of a real living mermaid hanging around with her, a sense of giddy excitement had remained and it was only after talking to Viney, very vaguely, that she came to realize just why being around Amity made it feel like she didn’t know what to say or do with herself.
She still wasn’t really sure what to do. Could you have feelings for a mermaid? She didn’t have any reference for a regular crush, much less one on a mythical creature.
Not to mention the fact that Amity was… amazing and wonderful. Why would she ever want a regular old human like her? She pushed all those thoughts away for now.
“So, we’re setting sail first thing in the morning,” she said and glanced up to see Amity’s eyes open, looking back at her.
“You’re leaving the Isles?” she asked and Luz nodded.
“Eda got news of another ship that's going to be sailing near here soon and… well, she wants what’s on it.” She waved a hand.
Amity hummed, tail flicking out of the water quickly. Luz had started to pick up on her bodily mannerisms and the quicker than normal flicking of her back fins, though not so fast as to indicate annoyance, told Luz that she was, maybe, a little upset.
“How long would you be gone?” she asked quietly and Luz gave a little half-shrug.
“Could be a couple of weeks or a couple of months. It depends.”
“I could follow the ship…?” she offered and Luz had thought of that but she had thought of a few other things also. To what end was Amity sticking with her?
True, she didn’t know how to get back home but she couldn’t follow her forever… even if Luz kind of wanted her to.
“Is it safe for you to do that?” she asked, finally moving to float upright, next to Amity. “It can’t be safe for you to be out in open water all the time, can it?” she asked and Amity frowned, gaze skittering anywhere but on Luz. She’d told her a story or two about having to hide from sharks and things, which made Luz worry.
That wasn't the only thing that bothered Luz though. It would be much harder to get down to the water to see Amity, which only elevated the chances of someone seeing them and Luz still lived very much in fear that if Eda or the rest of the crew found out about her they would try to sell her.
“It’s… not the safest option,” Amity admitted.
“Then… maybe you should stay here while I’m gone…?” Luz offered and Amity’s frown deepened, as well as the quick back and forth of her tail.
“If you don't want me to come along then just tell me so, Luz,” she rumbled and Luz frowned.
“No, no. It’s not that I don't want you around, I do…!” she quickly hurried to say. She did. She very much wanted Amity around. Amity was the only thing that seemed to occupy her mind these last two weeks. Not to mention how badly Luz wanted to kiss her every time she smiled.
She quickly shoved that thought away and rested her hand on Amity’s shoulder.
“I just don’t want anything bad to happen to you, Amity.”
Reluctantly, Amity nodded and Luz smiled sadly at her.
“I’ll be back before you know it.. Oh! I have something to show you!” she smiled and crawled back into the boat, shaking off as much water as she could before she went digging through her bag. “Look at this!” She pulled out her sketchbook and turned the pages, careful not to drip on it before she turned it around to show her.
Amity’s eyes widened as she stared at the clean, smooth sketch staring back at her from familiar eyes.
Her own.
Luz’s sketch covered two pages and was done in the most excruciating detail. Every line and curve was sharp and clean. Each scale was accounted for on the length of her tail and every gem and accouterment on her wrap in its place.
“What do you think?” Luz asked, grinning proudly to herself. It had its flaws of course. She was still learning but it was a pretty good likeness of the mermaid if she did say so herself.
“It’s beautiful, Luz.” Amity said, quietly, eyes still darting across every dark line.
“Ah, thanks. It kinda pales in comparison to the real thing but,” Luz shrugged, grinning sheepishly at her as she leaned over the side of the boat with the book.
Gold eyes turned upward to her and seemed to stare back at her for a long moment, something behind them seemed to flicker and the next thing Luz knew, she tasted saltwater and all she could see was Amity.
It took her far too long to realize what was happening and when she did, Amity had already pulled back and was staring back at her, face pink and looking unsure.
Luz just stared back, mouth hanging open.
Amity had just kissed her.
Luz’s jaw moved soundlessly, unsure what to say. She’d been thinking about it but she hadn’t even entertained the idea of just… doing it.
“I…” she managed to get out but not much else before the pink across Amity’s face turned red.
“I’m sorry!” she suddenly squeaked and then turned and disappeared under the water.
“Wait, Amity!” Luz tossed her book aside and dove overboard, into the water but already, Amity’s form was becoming a blurry spot in the distance. She would never catch her.
Luz resurfaced, hands tightening into fists.
“Mierda!” She slapped her hands across the surface of the water.
~ ~ ~
Luz sighed to herself, not for the first time that day as the ship moved through the seemingly endless expanse of sea. The sky was dark and gray, promising storms; much like her mood.
They had been at sea for four days now and she hadn’t seen Amity since she had swam off. She hadn’t been waiting in the usual spot the next morning when she’d run down to the shore before they had set sail.
Why? Why hadn’t she said something… anything! Now, Amity probably thought she had rebuffed her when nothing could be further from the truth.
She could still feel the fleeting press of Amity’s lips on hers and she really wanted a do over there! She’d been taken by surprise!
Who knew if Amity would even still be there when she got back, or even want to see her. A cool, gust of wind whipped through the air and she sighed again, staring down at the water.
“You okay, Kid?”
Luz looked up to see Eda walking up to her, frowning and Luz frowned.
“Not really,” she admitted.
“Is it your lady friend?” Eda asked and Luz’s head shot up, jaw hanging open.
“How did you…?” she started and Eda grinned.
“Come on, Luz, I was young once. I used to sneak off at all hours of the day and night once too to meet some… ‘friends’.” She said with a smirk and Luz flushed. “Also, Viney told me you came to her asking for advice,” she laughed and Luz grunted.
‘Of course she did.’ Luz thought bitterly.
“So… what happened, she turn ya down?” she asked and Luz frowned.
“No... the opposite actually… she kissed me,” Luz said.
“So why do you look like someone spit in your rum?” Eda frowned.
“She surprised me and I just… stood there!” She threw up her arms. “Then Amity sw- ran off and I couldn't find her…, she grumbled, slouching on the railing.
“Ah, that’s tough, kid. Maybe you can talk to this ‘Amity’ girl when we get back?” she suggested.
“I dunno if she’ll even still be there when we get back,” she grumbled to herself.
“Chin up, Luz. You’ll just have to wait and see.” Eda patted her shoulder. “We should be coming up on that ship within the hour so put your game face on!” Eda said before walking away and Luz nodded.
They had a job to do.
She stood up and gave herself a shake. There was nothing she could do about Amity right now and if she didn’t get her head in the right place she might end up on the wrong end of a saber.
~ ~ ~
The rain was pouring down in sheets and thunder rumbled across the sky; the occasional streak of lightning flashing in the dark was nearly indistinguishable from the flash of the canons as they.
“Keep firing!” Eda was yelling somewhere over the din as they constantly fired shots at the galleon bobbing along only about one hundred yards away.
Luz grunted as she loaded another canon, sharp needles of icy rain stinging her face as she did and the second the shot was in place, King was firing with a strangled cry of rage.
“We’re gaining on them!” she heard Jerbo yell from somewhere behind her and Luz squinted into the rain. The ship definitely seemed to be getting closer… but not because they were gaining on it.
“Eda!” she whipped around to scream. “They’re heading straight for us!”
Sure enough, the ship had turned and was making a line straight for them through the storm.
“Prepare for a fight!”
They fired at the ship still till it all but rammed right into them, the force of the impact nearly sending everyone aboard stumbling to their feet.
“We’re being boarded!” someone yelled and thick boards clattered down across the expanse of sea between the two ships and the next thing Luz knew, fighting had broken out on the deck.
Shots rang out, almost muffled by the thunder.
Hooty had swung down from the crow's nest and went sailing right into a naval officer trying to board them, sending him into the dark waters below before he dropped onto the deck to grab the nearest barrel and chuck it into more trying to cross.
“Ha ha!” the man laughed crazily as Luz ducked under his next projectile. He still had both eyepatches pulled down over his eyes as he flung cargo around like it was made of paper.
Luz drew her knife; she hated this part of pirating.
A grappling hook flung over the railing, hooking in it and Luz rushed over and sliced the rope, sending the man on the other end plunging into the water with a scream.
She looked around, water running into her eyes and blinding her.
She could very easily see the man on the boarding planks, leveling his pistol at Eda, standing in the middle of the deck and firing shots.
“Eda, look out!”
She was much closer to him and jumped onto the planks and rammed herself into him, he tattered back over the edge, but not before his hand fisted into Luz’s soaked shirt and then she was plummeting into the dark water below with him.
She barely had time to scream before she hit the water and water rushed into her mouth.
She kicked up to the surface and sucked in a gulp of air before a wave broke over her head, forcing her back under.
It was dark and everything was moving too fast. She barely had a second where she was able to surface before more water rushed back over her, pulling her deeper into the water.
Then, she was pulled too far under and she could feel her lungs burning as she tried to swim back to the surface, only to be dragged down by the undertow.
She couldn’t hold her breath any longer and her mouth opened of its own volition. She sucked in a lungful of water and choked. Everything was going black as her eyes drifted closed.
A flash of green from the corner of her eye was the last thing she saw before the darkness overcame her.
~ ~ ~
Luz was vaguely aware of someone calling her name.
It was distant at first but steadily growing louder.
“Luz!”
Her eyes slowly slid open, everything was blurry at first but quickly coming back into focus as she stared up at Eda’s concerned face.
“Eda…?” she gurgled and the captain sighed in relief.
“I thought you were a goner, Kid,” she said, sliding a hand under Luz’s back and helping her sit up. Luz coughed, spitting up some water.
It was still dark and the thunder rumbled overhead but the rain had stopped.
“Did we win?” she asked, groggily looking around. The crew was moving about, cleaning up the mess that often accompanied the end of a battle.
“Sure did! Sunk them suckers to the bottom of the ocean! Got an extra prize out of it too, thanks to you!” Eda grinned and Luz blinked at her.
“Whaddaya mean?”  she asked and Eda only continued to grin as she stood and helped Luz to her feet.
“I’ll show ya,” she jerked her head and Luz followed her across the deck and down into the hold. “We couldn’t find you and I was… the crew was afraid you’d drowned… till something pulled you up…”
“Something…? Luz asked as they rounded the corner of some crates down below and came face to face with the last person she expected to see.
Amity.
She was strung up in the rafters in a net and looked absolutely miserable till her eyes fell and Luz. Gold eyes lit up and she sat up best she could in the tangled net.
“Ay dios mio!” Luz darted forward.
Eda blinked as Luz ran across the room to the net hanging off the floor.
Luz’s fingers tangled in the nets' holes. “Are you okay!?” Luz cried.
“I’m okay…” Amity’s fingers wrapped around hers through the netting.
“What are you doing here?” Luz hissed and Amity frowned.
“I… followed when you left. I wanted to tell you I was sorry for what happened…”
“No!” she all but yelled, making the mermaid jerk. “Don’t be sorry! It was my fault… you surprised me is all…,” she mumbled.
“Okay, what’s going on.” Eda walked up behind her. “That thing can talk and you know it.” Eda frowned.
“It’s not an it! This is Amity…,” Luz admitted.
“Wait… Amity like, your lady friend, Amity?” Eda blinked owlishly at her and Luz pinked but nodded. “The mermaid?” she gestured and again Luz nodded.
Eda stared at her for a long hard moment.
“You have some strange and exotic tastes, Kid…,” she finally said and Luz flushed darker. “Explains why she hauled you out of the ocean… we got both of you in the net cause she wouldn’t let go… I figured we’d sell her at the next port city…”
“No!” Luz jumped in and Eda reared back at that. “Please, Eda, no!” Luz begged. “She’s… important to me.”
Eda looked at her for a long time, amber gaze flickering back up at the mermaid hanging in the net, fingers still wrapped around Luz’s and sighed heavily.
“Fine. If you hadn’t shoved that boot licker off the plank I’d have a new air hole and The Owl Lady doesn’t leave her debts unpaid. I’ll get Hooty and we’ll toss her back into the sea.” Eda grumbled before turning on heel and walking out of the hold.
Luz breathed a sigh of relief before turning back to Amity.
“Why did you let yourself get captured?” Luz asked with a frown.
“I couldn’t let you drown!” Amity shot back and Luz sighed.
“I’m just glad you’re okay,” she finally said, fingers tightening around Amity’s.
“You… you’re not upset about the other day?” she mumbled, looking at Luz from beneath her lashes.
“No, I’m not upset, you just surprised me… I…,” Luz pursed her lips, trying to think of the words to say. “I like you too… a lot,” she admitted. “But… I don't think it’s safe for you to just be following the ship day and night,” she said and Amity frowned but didn’t argue, Luz was right. She ran the risk of being captured like she was today.
“I don’t wanna wait at the Isles for you to come back for so long at a time,” she mumbled and Luz frowned, thinking.
There had to be something they could do.
A sudden thought struck her.
“I think I have an idea!” she grinned and Amity blinked.
When Eda came strolling back down the stairs with Hooty in tow Luz turned to her.
“Eda! I have a proposition for you!” she said, a toothy grin stretched across her face. Eda cocked a brow at the young woman; intrigued. She was a businesswoman afterall.
“Oh yeah? I’m listening…”
~ ~ ~
Luz bounced with barely contained energy as she stood next to Eda on the deck, the crew standing before them.
“Alright, all y'all listen up. We have a new crew member joining us, so if you’ll turn your attention to the starboard side…,” she trailed off and the confused looking crew did just that, only to find the mermaid they had captured, down in the water, looking up at them nervously and giving a tentative wave.
“Wait.. what?” Viney looked over at the captain, who grinned.
“Yup, you’re looking at our newest ‘deck’ hand.” she fingers quoted. “In charge of collecting all your medicinal water plants and all manner of things from the ocean floor,” Eda said, rolling around a handful of pearls Amity had brought up as proof of her usefulness.
“Welcome aboard!” Hooty grinned and waved enthusiastically down at her.
“Do… do you think he even realizes she’s a mermaid….?” Viney leaned over and whispered to Luz, who shrugged.
“Alright, now get back to work, we’re setting sail!” Eda called and once their surprised stupors had passed the crew jumped to attention, still murmuring amongst themselves about their newest crewmate.
Once they had dispersed, Luz threw down a rope and slid down to the water where Amity was waiting for her.
“So, ready to start life as a pirate?” she asked with a grin.
“I guess we’ll find out,” she smiled.
“You’ll be great! At night we’ll haul you up top, Hooty got a big barrel for you for now. Just till we figure something else out so you can be safe at night,” she said and Amity nodded.
“Luz, we're going!” King called down gruffly.
“I’m coming!” she called back before turning back to Amity. “I’ll see you later, okay?” she asked and Amity nodded. “Oh! One more thing,” Luz said.
“Wha-” Before she could even finish that sentence Luz darted forward and pressed a kiss to her lips. When she pulled back she was grinning, but the dark tint to her cheeks betrayed her, though she was pleased to see a similar splash of red coloring Amity’s cheeks. “Now I'll see you later.” She grinned.
“Luz!” Eda’s voice called from up top.
“Coming, I’m coming!” she called, shooting another look at Amity before climbing back up the rope.

Hello💜👋 from one "could have been amazing if spn was better" character lover to another
Emma and Magda could either love or hate each other instantly.💜
I am in the camp that Emma would like everyone at first. Mostly because they’re def parallels of the boys. Magda the physic who things she’s the devil and Emma the half-monster who didn’t have a childhood would get along great! It astonishes me like Magda remembers her life before being confined to the basement. I think Emma would help her to remember that time, come out of her shell.
I definitely would love for Sam to take Magda in and but if she hadn’t of had a living family member they would have taken her to Jody’s. Mostly because Sam and Dean don’t really have child rearing experience. However, if we’re going by my personal supernatural AU which I shall now dub…Uh… familynatural? Uh yea so I’m calling it familynatural now because I’m unoriginal lol…anyways…Magda gains a lot of family when Sam & Dean take her in.
More under the cut because this got long
So familynatural…
This is definitely going to be similar to @milfcodeddean’s babiesnatural which you should definitely check out! Except I am keeping everyone their canon ages and Kevin, Emma, Benny, & Charlie don’t die. Sorry Lisa & Nora…but your getting fridged for the greater good of TFW’s happiness 🥶
By the time Magda would roll around Dean & Benny would have Bobby John (age 6), Ben (age 18), and Emma (age 20). Ideally, they are based out of Lebanon and live in the bunker with Charlie and Cas. Kevin (age 21) is in Princeton getting a dual degree in the Classics (thanks to being a prophet!) and Conputer Engineering.
He and Charlie will have modernized, as best they can, the tech in the bunker. Do you remember that tablet she made that Sam was jealous of (in Pac-Man fever I think)? Yeah, the whole bunker would have that kinda tech. But since it’s magical it would kinda be held together with spell-o-tape and glue until Rowena arrives and offers her help.
Yes this is also Charlie/Rowena too mostly because I think they’d be cute and so did the writer thats why cut their scene it was too powerful They would be so cute together! Honestly, while I don’t think Cyrus would consider them his moms…I think they would take charge of making sure he doesn’t get into mischief.
Then we have Sam & Eileen who have Rosie Holt (age 10), Jesse Turner (age 18), Jacob Pond (age 16) and then Krissy, Aidan, & Josephine (ages 17-18). I am a staunch believer that Krissy should have been Sam-coded (and had the better relationship with him) because he was the one she had the most initial contact with! But that’s a rant for another time…
I also secretly love Sam/Amy so in this AU Dean doesn’t kill her…another hunter does. Like, Sam tracks her down like last time and he spares her. But instead let’s say he runs into Martin or someone and they take her out and him and Dean save Jacob…who he finds out it secretly his…boom
Then they’d have Magda, who I think is 16 in S12? And I think she’d be a bit overwhelmed by the family she’d be coming into to say the least. She would go from having an older brother to having a younger sister, younger brother, and two older sister and brother. Not to mention all the cousins’ she’d have…
It would be an adjustment period to say the least…especially considering the youngest amongst them is Cas’ daughter Tanya who is three-years old. Yes I am subscribing to @8daysuntiltheapocalypseiguess’s secret Cas takes Tanya AU!
Cas also has Claire who he sees as his own kid but I think like canon they’d be not very close. I do think Jody, Alex, Ann’s Claire do visit. Also this is Jody/Linda, the most underrated ship so Linda lives in Sioux Falls with them and Kevin is a wayward sister! Also speaking of wayward sisters…Missouri doesn’t die but Patience still gets disowned so she lives with her grandmother (who for these purposes was the one to live in Sioux Falls). And they also rehabilitate Dark Kaia who goes by the name Maia!
And since Donna is single…I’ve always her shipped her with Gabriel. I mean, I think they would crack each other up! They have similar senses of humor and I think Gabriel would get a kick out of scaring Doug with his angelic powers.
But Uh…yeah this AU also features two de-aged characters (in a sense) Amara and Jack. Dean would raise Amara with Benny and Cas would raise Jack with Kelly. Though I think in this AU, Kelly and Cas would be QTPs. In this AU, for me, Cas is Aromantic Asexual (because I might be projecting a bit) and Kelly would be Biromantic Demisexual. So the two of them have Jack (newborn) and Tanya (3 year old). It they are living every minute of it.
By the time the final rolls around, Sam would be together with Eileen. The two of them would become the heads of the hunting community, opening the bunker to all (a la the Roadhouse). Rosie, Jesse, and Magda, would be great siblings to Dean Jr…who we are naming James Dean “JD” Winchester. I also think they’d have a daughter named Lillian Maura.
Rosie, I think, would want a normal life and follow in her father’s footsteps and become a lawyer. Magda would train her powers so that she could no longer hurt people. I think she would maybe study folklore and become a professor! Maybe come a hunter resource (a la Pamela) being on the fringe of hunting.
Dean and Benny would open a place like Sonny’s for monster kids. Jacob, Emma, Jesse, would probably help out at this place. Jacob and Jesse I see being entrenched in hunting, taking up that life as their job. Jacob, I think, would be their scout for monster kids. Emma would probably go with him to help convince the kids to comfort them. I think Jesse would maybe become a Latin scholar and maybe work with the church as a Pastor Jim type character.
Krissy, I think, would follow in Dean’s footsteps as a hunter, as would Aidan and Josephine. I think Ben would be the ‘Alex’ of the group and want a normal life outside of hunting. I think he would become a doctor as a counterbalance to all the problems he had in his life. He might work at a local hospital and work part-time at the ranch with his dads.
Bobby John I headcanon following in Dr. Mia Vallens and become a grief counselor. Cyrus I believe would be like Charlie but I also think he would try and combine Magic and technology. I think he’d try
Cas and Kelly get to live in their lake house in North Cove, Washington. I think Jack would unintentionally heal Cas completely making him a full-powered seraph again. Jack and Tanya would be the best of siblings and I think Jack would benefit from a kid near his age.
Um…in this universe honestly, I could see Jack wanting to go into politics like his parents. Honestly Jack as the future president would be absolutely hilarious!!! As for Tanya…not sure. I think she could be a witch like her aunt Rowena, that could be nice. Maybe she’d want a quieter life like she probably has with her parents. OH — Cas has bees at the house, Tanya is a beekeeper like her father.
TL;DR
DeanBenny Kids: Ben, Bobby John, & Emma [and Kevin technically].
Sam/Eileen Kids: Rosie Holt, Jesse Turner, Jacob Pond, Krissy, Aidan, & Josephine
Charlie/Rowena: Cyrus Styne
Cas & Kelly: Tanya & Jack
Jody/Linda: Kevin, Alex, & Claire.
Ships:
DeanBenny
Sam/Eileen
Charlie/Rowena
Cas & Kelly (Queerplatonic)
Deamhunter
Magda Peterson/Jesse Turner
Emma/Dark Kaia
Ben Braeden/Alex Jones
Fun Fact! I have the majority of the Emma & Magda fics in that tag on Ao3. Who would have guessed? 😂
Idk how to tag people but I guess I’ll tag the emmanatural mutuals: @milfcodeddean @scarecrowmax

Sleep
Made a Chuck/Papa G fanfic. Lemme know what you think. I don’t really like writing fanfics I mostly enjoy drawing comics. Oh well. Gotta get better at writing though somewhere I guess. I’m putting it under ‘Keep Reading’ ‘cause it’s a little long.
It's been a couple months for Chuck on this planet Earth. He's been living with George, or Papa G, in his house ever since he was thrown off his cowardly ex leader's ship. He thought it was a bad idea at first, especially since he caused them so much trouble, but George wouldn't take 'No' for an answer and immediately started fixing up that spare room he used to use as storage. He found some planets and hung them up from string on the ceiling over his bed. He painted the walls with other planets and some big stars. The nightstand and dresser were painted blue and black. There was a UFO lamp on his nightstand by his bed, it looked like it was abducting a cow. Chuck kinda likes it, he thinks it's a little silly. Where you'd walk in, you'd see the bed across the room by the oval shaped window. The floor was made of wood and there was an oval shaped rug that was black with two yellow rings on the outside and had Earth and the moon on the inside. He even had his own little T.V across from his bed on the dresser with some VHS tapes that Papa G found, or some that he bought from Jo. Most of them being about Action, some of them Horror, others were Romance. When Chuck first saw his new room he nearly cried. He never had his own room. Never looked as nice as this. Chuck wasn't sure how to thank him. He's a strange old man but he was kind and caring. But he later found out that George was struggling with money so he decided to get a job working at Mo's Oasis Cafe. It was a difficult week, new customers coming in, giving him some trouble but Tuna was kind enough to show them the Exit. Some were friendly. Some of them asked him quick questions like: Where he was from, how old was he, and his favorite: Was he single? But others would give him cold glares when he'd go back in the kitchen. He mostly cleaned the dishes but would sometimes take the customer's orders if Jo was running late or sick. Which was barely. After a little while, work got better. There were some problems here and there but not enough to wanna make him quit. Besides, coming home to see Kid running up to him excitedly to tell him everything he did today was nice. Or coming home to see George made him dinner and found something cool while him and Kid were exploring the desert, lookin' for treasure, and wanted to give it to him.
When they all went out to explore with Jo, Rosa and Tuna to see if anything new popped up in the desert, Papa G decided to bring some paper and pencils and crayons this time. Later he Sat down by a rock and started drawing something. Rosa wasn't interested in art at the moment, she was busy playing Princess and dragons with Chuck, Kid and Jo. Kid was the dragon and Jo was the wizard protecting Knight Rosa and Princess Chuck. Papa G kept glancing up at them and smiling. Eventually Rosa got tired and started picking flowers for Chuck, Jo and Kid. Everyone was eating snacks except George. He was focused on his drawing. As Chuck was eating some ice cream he noticed that George was staring at him. When he looked at him he quickly looked back down at the paper and continued drawing. He blinked. He was he...? No-he thought; he's probably drawing something else. He continued eating.
The sun was setting and it was time to head home. Papa G was carrying sleeping Rosa with one arm while holding his drawings and pens in the other. Jo was carrying sleeping Kid on her back. Papa G helped Chuck get his wheel chair in the back of the truck and helped him in. They all went home. George brought Kid back to the little trailer and tucked him in bed. He gave him a kiss on his head and turned out the light.
Papa G:"Sweet dreams kiddo." He whispered and went to the house. Chuck was in his room lying on his bed and watching T.V. He was finishing up one of the action movies until George came in."Well, G'night Charles. I'm going to bed. If ya need anythin' wake me up."
Chuck:"Good-night George." When he shut the door something fell to the floor from his pocket. Chuck got down and picked it up. It was one of his drawings. He gasped silently when he saw that some of these sketches were him. So he was drawing him! There's one where he seems happy with flowers that Rosa picked on his head, one where he's eating ice cream and another....he's sleeping? He looked confused. He doesn't remember sleeping. He can't actually remember when the last he actually had a good-night sleep. He's always been wide awake when he was on gaurd on the ship. Anytime he'd get tired, he'd force himself awake. It's what you had to do. Either that or be punished. He heard the credits song playing. The movie had ended. He looked back at his bed. He shrugged. Well...he wasn't back on the ship anymore... what harm could sleeping do now? He turned off his lamp and covered up under the blankets. He looked out the window on his right and was watching the stars until sleep finally took over him.
-------------------------------------------
The alarms were going off.
Something was very wrong.
Chuck found himself wide awake in his old bed. He had his legs back and gun in hand. He jumped out and ran out the door.
Chuck:"W....why am I here? I thought I was--"
PEWWW!
He was nearly hit with a ray to the face. He dodged it and it hit another soldier. Killing them instantly. He started running as more shots were fired. Killing or injuring his team. Smoke and screams filled the air.
Chuck:"I need to get out of here!" His heart was beating against his chest. He was so confused and afraid. Was he kidnapped? Was any of this real?! Why was this happening? The walls blew up and he hit the ground with the wall landing on top of him. He struggled to break free. He called for help but the soldiers kept running. They were ignoring his cries for help. He felt something on top of him slowly begin to crush him. He looked up. Glaring down at him was a mechanical monster with large glowing red eyes. It opened it's mouth showing rows and rows of sharp teeth. He tried reaching for his gun across from him but he couldn't grab it. The creature came closer towards his head. He couldn't do anything. He screamed. It was all he could do.
"Chuck!"
He stopped screaming when he heard that familiar voice.
"George?"
"Chuck!"
The voice was coming from behind him. He looked at the monster. No longer did it seem all that terrifying. It was giving him a look of concern...?
"Chuck! Wake up, Chuck! It's all a nightmare!" It spoke in George's voice.
-----------------------------------------------
Chuck opened his eyes finally and found himself on the floor by his bed with the blankets wrapped around him. George was over him with a worried look on his face. He was still in his pajamas and was wearing his glasses. Chuck sighed, he was relieved it was all a dream. George smiled.
George:"Haha....you gave me quite a scare there..." He helped him up back on the bed and fixed the blankets."Alright, no more ice cream and popcorn before bed." He said, he was joking kinda. He could see that Chuck was still shaking."I know, wanna come down stairs and watch T.V with me? I'll make some tea." He spoke softly. Chuck calmed himself down.
Chuck:"Uh, alright then." Instead of taking his wheel chair, Papa G carried him down stairs to the living room and placed him on the couch. He went in the kitchen and made them both tea. He sat back down next to Chuck and they both watched some T.V for a little while. George finally spoke up.
George:"So you finally went back to sleep."
Chuck:"Hm?" They looked at each other.
George:"I've seen you sleep before but it wasn't long 'till Kid woke you up when he and Jo started blasting music. You nearly hit me in the head with that glass cup. Do you remember that?" Chuck tried to remember but nothing came up. He shook his head no. He was frowning. "Anythin' you want to talk about?"
Chuck:"There's nothing really to talk about. I'm pretty sure I've told you about all my adventures in space." He took a drink of his tea.
George:"I can tell you left out some of the worst ones from Kid. You and I both know it's not all fun and games in Space." Chuck looked away from him. "If you don't wanna talk about it, it's fine. If you need someone I'm right here for ya Charles." He smiled and took a drink. Chuck looked back at him. He already knew he could put his trust in George. But hearing him say those words out loud made him feel better.
Chuck:"Thank you, George. That means a lot." He never noticed it until now but he was so tired. He never knew he was this tired. But he wanted to stay awake a little longer. They watched T.V all night with blankets wrapped around them. George was leaning on the arm of the couch and Chuck was starting to lean on George. He felt his arm around him, gently pulling him close and held his hand. Chuck squeezed it gently and laid his head on his shoulder. He closed his eyes. He felt his worries slowly disappear and soon fell asleep.

The Gardener - Part 3
Continuing from this story     Part 4
How the human had managed to land this hunk of junk without getting themselves killed was some stroke of dumb luck. That was clear the moment Nipti pulled the drat thing into the shop. It was even more clear as he crouched into it to look at the ship’s meager engines. He’d had to teach himself the basics of small engines and different machines he used around the various gardens. However, that didn’t mean he was any sort of expert, especially when it came to something as big as a ship’s engines. That being said, even he could tell that the ship was going to need parts. A lot of them. “What is this- uhg, is this being held together with tape?!?” That was not up to any code he knew of. In fact, the more he saw of this ship the more he realized it was less of a ship and more of one giant collection of safety, engineering, design, and who knows what else protocol violations! This was hopeless. At least, for Nipti. He was a gardener after all, not a mechanic! Not to mention he still had his chores to do today. He sighed as he straightened his back and stretched. Well, might as well head back to the green garden. Make sure the human hadn’t gotten into anything too dangerous. They may be from the same planet as many of his specimens, but that didn’t mean they were completely immune to their dangers. And also, maybe he could get them to help out with his chores there if their offer to do so was genuine. Nipti carefully retreated from the trash scrap the human called a ship and started up the hoverbike. When Nipti arrived back at the Green Gardens, he didn’t see the human. He watched the raspberries, waiting to see moving branches or signs of their presence. The leafy plants only moved gently with the wind. Where had they gone? As Nipti parked the hoverbike, he noticed the pails the human had retrieved from the supply shack. They were filled with red, purple, and golden yellow fruits. Well, nearly full. The human must have eaten about half of one of the buckets. Or maybe they just had finished picking and put the bucket with the others. Nipti looked up and around again for where the human had gone, now a little worried. They said the raspberries were fine for them to eat, he hoped they hadn’t been overestimating their ability to process the xylitol in them. Maybe they were sick and had to lie down. But where?
“Marley?” Nipti called out. He kept telling himself that the human was fine. They were from Earth, they knew these plants potentially as well or even better than he did. He wasn’t sure why he felt so worried. He decided it must just be that he really, really didn’t want to deal with a sick or injured human in his gardens. That was definitely a good reason after all. “Marley?!” “Over here!” he could just make out their voice farther back in the foliage to his right. He gave a small sigh of relief, then shaking his head, donned his protective gear, and headed toward the sound of the human’s voice. He wondered if maybe they had found something else edible. That might be nice. Until their ship was fixed or a replacement procured, it was looking like they’d be here a while and he wasn’t quite sure what humans ate. Raspberries were one thing, but surely they needed more to their diet than that. As Nipti carefully pushed aside bushes and plants that he noted looked like they were in desperate need of trimming, he twisted his way into where he had heard Marley’s voice. As the human came into view, he stopped dead in his tracks. His plants. They were torn out of the ground, their scraggly, branching roots spreading out every which way except down in the dirt where they belonged. Plant after plant in the clearing looked like they’d been ripped up, bunched together, and thrown down. It was like something out of a horror story. “My plants!” Nipti cried, rushing forward and grabbing the human as they tried to pry up another specimen. “What have you done?! Why would you do this to my plants?!” Surprised, Marley released the plant they’d been pulling at and fell back onto Nipti who in turn fell back and landed on a pile of pulled vegetation. “Dude, what the heck? What was that for?” Marley rolled off of Nipti and pushed themselves back up onto their knees. “What was that- what do you think that was for?!” Nipti gestured at the carnage around him. He frowned down at the small crushed bunch of flowers his plants had started sprouting. Such a waste! Such a tragedy! Perhaps he could replant some of them, it might not be too late for some. “What, do you mean the weeds?” Marley’s eyebrows lifted at different angles as they looked between their mess and Nipti’s devastated expression. “I thought you’d be happy. You have quite an infestation of garlic mustard, you know.” “Infestation?! I planted these! What do you think you’re doing by ruining my garden like this?” Marley frowned and stared at him for a moment. “You mean you meant to plant these? Like, on purpose?” “Of course I did! You know I get plenty of tourists who come through my gardens and step on things here or pull a plant there, but never, in all my time, have I ever had someone go as far in their destruction as you, you monster!” The human looked hurt, and perhaps a bit unsure of themselves for a moment. They looked around the clearing again and their eyebrows squinted together. “Nipti, I’m sorry about angering you. I was trying to help.” Before Nipti could cut in, Marley held up a hand to silence him. “I do have one question though. Or actually two. First, how many of these did you plant?” Nipti frowned. What? What did that matter? He looked down at the crushed plants beneath him again. Then around the clearing where there were more piles all around, and more still that hadn’t yet been picked. “A little more than half a dozen or so.” Marley nodded. “Second question. How long ago did you plant them?” Nipti turned his attention from the numerous plants around him to Marley. The realization was starting to dawn on him, but it was slow coming so far. “About two and a half solar cycles ago.” Marley nodded as if that was that. Nipti, still not quite understanding what the human was getting at and still not quite ready to let go of his anger and shock, stood back up. “What does that matter? You still had no right to ruin my gardens as you did.” Marley’s eyes did a small spin in their sockets as they too got to their feet. “This garlic mustard propagated this much in that short amount of time. I’m saving your garden. I know a noxious weed when I see one.” Nipti’s retort stopped in his throat. What? “Noxious weed? What do you mean?” Marley gestured to their surroundings. “Noxious weeds. They’re what happens when a plant that’s taken out of their native environment and put into a new one where they turn invasive and can cause damage or even kill native plants or wildlife that compete for resources. They can destroy ecosystems if left unchecked.” Nipti frowned as Marley bent down to grab one of the plants by the roots. “Garlic mustard can choke out undergrowth and releases toxins into the soil that kill vital networks of fungi that other plants and trees need.” Marley ripped off a handful of triangular leaves. “They’re edible though, so I guess there’s that.” Nipti nodded slowly as he took it all in. “Noxious weeds,” he repeated quietly. “But if they’re that bad, then why do they not completely overrun all of Earth?” Marley arched their back in a stretch and leaned on a nearby shovel. “Well, they try. The places they’re native to have the right conditions where they’re naturally kept in check. Outside those conditions, they put their survival mechanisms to use and overwhelm ecosystems that aren’t adapted to deal with their tactics. People try to fight them and cut ‘em back, but sometimes it becomes a bit of an uphill battle.” Nipti silently gasped. Battle? Were the humans really at war with the plants from their own planet? He looked around at the clearing they stood in. Well, he supposed it did kind of look like a battlefield of sorts right now. Marley looked around as well and exhaled. “I don’t think they’ve done too much damage yet though. We’ll have to keep an eye around the area though. Garlic mustard seeds spread on the wind, but I don’t know how many of these have gone to seed just yet.” They walked to another patch of garlic mustard, pausing at the large pile they fell in earlier. “Do you have a place to put these? Like a bag or something? I can eat some, they’re still pretty young, the bigger ones I’ll have to cook the cyanide out.” “Cook the cyanide out?!” “Yeah, I can add them to a stir fry or make a sauce or whatever out of those. We just need to get them out of here.” Nipti sized up the number of large piles of pulled plants. This was a lot to take in. First, his garden was torn up, then he was told that the plants growing there were trying to kill his other plants, and now he has to figure out a way to clean all this up and prevent some plant infestation? He had done so much research when selecting specimens for his garden, what soils were necessary, watering information, light, humidity, pollination needs, on and on and on. He looked into everything he’d need to make sure every plant in his garden could thrive. He just never realized that some plants would go on to thrive at the cost of killing off other plants. He provided everything they needed, after all, there was no need for that. But the plants didn’t know that. They were created on Earth, a known category three death world. Survival of the fittest was hardwired into their DNA, and no luxurious life in his or anyone’s garden was going to change all that. “I’ll go get some bags and wagons to carry these,” he turned and headed back in the direction of the hoverbike. “Oh, before you go, real quick,” Marley called out. Nipti turned. “Did you happen to notice anything… odd about my ship when you were looking it over?” Odd? Nipti wondered. Odd was the least to worry about with that ship. “In my honest opinion,” he responded, “your ship is a piece of junk and you’d be better off selling it for scrap and parts. If there are any working parts left that is.” Marley made a low noise that sounded like a mix between a growl and a whine. “That bad, huh?” “I’ve never seen anything so malfunctioned before in my life.” The human’s shoulders dropped. They looked so sad, like a fledgling kuipik that’s forgotten where its den was. Nipti sighed. “If you really have it in to fix the drag blast thing, you’re gonna need a complete overhaul. Those do not come cheap, nor am I anywhere near qualified or capable of doing anything more than a tune-up. You'd have to hire a mechanic. And a good one at that.” “How much are we talking?” “Almost as much as it would cost to buy a ship that size new.” “Ouch.” Marley closed their eyes and tilted their head back up to the sky. After a silent moment, they nodded and began pacing. “Okay, okay. I’ll figure that out. In any case, I’m going to need money, and lots of it then. More than what I’ve got now, that’s for sure.” They stopped. They stared at the pulled plants around them. Nipti didn’t have much experience with humans and their wildly varied expression, but even he could see that Marley was thinking hard. After a few tiks, they nodded. “Nipti? You said you have a lot of tourists pop in, right?” “I do. They can be a real pain in my tail most of the time.” “I don’t suppose those tourists would mind a bite to eat while they peruse the gardens.” Nipti narrowed his eyes. Marley continued “And if they didn’t bring a snack, or if they wanted to sample some exotic foods while visiting exotic plants, made by what may be to them an exotic alien, they might be willing to pay some real tourist-trap level prices.” “I don’t know if I like where this is going.” “It’s just an idea,” Marley stopped pacing. “Like you said, fixing my ship isn’t going to be cheap. I know you love your gardens and having a human literally fall from the sky suddenly be your problem wasn’t part of your plans, but I’m willing to help you with your plants and dealing with tourists, and I’m willing to do whatever it takes to get my ship fixed. Maybe I can kill two birds with one stone?” “I’m going to assume that’s an Earth idiom.” “Yes it is.” Nipti sighed. Putting his head in his hands, he slid his slender fingers over his nasal ridge. “Okay. That may be a good idea,” he conceded, “but as of right now, it’s just an idea that needs a lot of thinking through and careful planning.” Marley’s face split into a toothy expression, the corners of their mouth turned upwards. They raised their hand up in a fist, except their opposable fifth digit was extended upwards. He stared at them. They stared back. “I’ll go get those bags then,” Nipti once again turned back toward the hoverbike. Thankfully, he had left it in the sun to recharge. He had already made more back and forth trips from his workshop and quarters to the Green Garden today alone than he had any time in recent memory. And by the looks of all the garlic mustard he would now need to transport, he would be making a few more before the day was done.

My Review of Masters of the Universe Revelation - Better late then Never...
It has been two months now, and wow... Not, not many fans of the entire franchise like the Kevin Smith Masters of the Universe series do they? As an aspiring writer myself I can't say I blame them.
I know this comes literally on the heels of the LATEST series being released (obligations to projects, work, family and other things got in the way) and I have to say I wasn't all that impressed with it. If anything, compared to the dumpster fire that was Season 8 of Voltron Legendary Defender that season was more enjoyable than this first part of the mini-series.
And if I am being honest from the first leaks of Skele-God, to the drama with YouTubers like Clownfish-TV and others, to the "race swapping" of Andra and King Greyskull, to spoilers Kevin Smith himself even made, I would give Part-1 a GENEROUS D-Minus. This is a shame because I really wanted this series to exceed all expectations and be equal to the original like 2012s TMNT is or 2011s ThunderCats. But there is too much against it.
First, let’s talk about the animation. It was absolutely breathtaking! It was crisp, the world-building in just the scenery was a masterpiece. Out of what I saw of all of part 1, spotted one goof - dealing in episode 1 with Evil-Lyn's staff, which shows that their animators care of what they produce. I loved the animation so much that if the rights to my favorite anime were purchased by a studio to do a continuation from 2005 or a second reboot, I'd gladly give Powerhouse Animation my salary for the next 5 years!
The music, the music was gorgeous! But then I am biased towards Bear McCreary. Even though He-Man seems a bit knew to compose music to, he immediately got my vote of confidence when it was announced he was attached. Reason being, his work for the movie Godzilla King of the Monsters! His music made me actually tear up during that movie. Something I didn't do since another Godzilla movie.
With the exception of Mark Hamill - as shocking as it comes and Sarah Michelle Gellar, the voice acting was phenomenal! I loved Kevin Michael Richards as Beastman, Tony Todd as ScareGlow, even Liam Cunningham as Duncan! Chris Wood was spectacular as Prince Adam/He-Man for just being introduced to him. But the one who really stole the show for me was Lena Headdy. She killed it as Evil-Lyn, so much that if the Eternity War Saga or 2 part crossover event ThunderCats and He-Man/Injustice vs Masters of the Universe were made into live-action or animated movies, I'd pay whatever she wanted just to have her return.
I also want to applaud the effort of getting a diverse group of voice actors. Something which I noticed few if ANY have. Actors who are both known for their VA resumes and those who are new to voice acting. But also the actors themselves, besides the white and black VAs there were if I am not mistaken a Native American and I think 2 Mixed-Race voice actors. I don't remember if there were any Asian or Middle Eastern VAs, but it is always Part-2!
As for Mark Hamill, at first, I was excited that he was going to do the voice of Skeletor. But upon hearing him as Skeletor, I'm not sure anymore. Granted this is just the first part of the mini-series, but it didn't feel like Skeletor if that makes sense? To me, it felt like he was trying to mix Joker/Alvin the Treacherous/and Firelord Orzi all into one character.
Sarah Michelle Gellar is another one I wasn't sure about. I admit I found it hard going in unbiased because I never liked Sarah. Not as Gwendy Doll, or Andromeda, Daphne and certainly not as Buffy - mainly because I preferred Kristy Swanson as Buffy, but that is beside the point. She had some nice emotional spots, but for the majority of her performance as Teela, it just wasn't there for me. If the writing and script had been better than what it was, she could have won me over for Teela, but as I write this I am more excited for Kimberly Brooks to voice Teela.
Now let’s talk about the things I hated. This will involve anything from Characters including designs to the writing and other things. If you don't want to be triggered I advise you to stop reading this and move on. If you are still here and get triggered, like one person who always seems to be, don't say I didn't warn you. I am always open to engaging others civilly in talking and debate. But if you can't even do that, don't bother engaging. These are my opinions and MY THOUGHTS, and I will hold nothing back regardless of the topic. You have been warned!
The story, the story absolutely sucked! You can tell the writers, if you can call them that, just didn’t care about what they were doing. I’ll go into this shortly. But those writers should be ashamed to even call themselves that. Sure it was catered to be modernized and appealing to potential new fans, but they should have been more aware of what they were doing. Just in this first part, there are so many plotholes and questions I was asking myself that I filled 4 whole pages of paper asking questions and thoughts - which to the fanfic writers I will put in at the end of this if you want to explore them.
I watched the mini-series five times now, trying to be as objective as I possibly could as an aspiring writer and not as a MotU fan, and each time got even more painful. Let’s be clear on one thing, I wanted this series to succeed. But too many things brought it down, and like with Ghost in the Shell 2045, I’m not sure I want Netflix to release part 2 or that I would watch it if they did.
Let’s start with how it was advertised as a “direct sequel to the original.” It was not a direct sequel to the original. I have seen someone bring this up and I have to agree with him. This mini-series is more in line with Nickelodeon’s Voltron-Force from 2011. I remember watching that series when it premiered and then had to hunt down my VHS tapes that had them to get a feel for the series again.
Both played off their respective originals as direct sequels, but both are in fact pseudo-sequels/soft reboots. They have the characters we grew up with and we can identify these characters because they are close to their original counterparts, but that is as far as the “sequel” goes. They bring in newer characters who we know nothing about or characters who have maybe been unimportant to the main characters, but we have to accept them now. It was like that with Mona Lisa in the 2012 TMNT who I enjoyed WHEN they used her, Larmina of Voltron-Force being Allura’s niece, and Andra of Revelation who had maybe 2 or 3 appearances in the entire run of the Masters of the Universe franchise.
Like Voltron-Force, Revelation, had no real ties to the original. There were no mentions of battles, events, and characters who played critical roles in the original. Instead, it starts off with a narrative deposition to set the series up (not matching how the original ended) and just starts in with new adventures. For it to be a direct sequel to an original,  you need to have more than just characters we can identify as He-Man/Skeletor/Keith/Lotor/Allura/or Teela.
Next, let’s talk about the length of this mini-series. This is still a bitter subject amongst Voltron fans because so much Netflix could have done more with it if they didn’t do four seasons that were  6/7 episodes. We can all agree that with the “story telling” they wanted to do, just five episodes just were not enough for the first part and potentially the second part. The amount of time needed to portray the journey from Adam’s death to Skeletor taking the power sword and becoming Skelegod could have easily been an entire season. Even 9-10 episodes would have been acceptable with the proper writing that wasn’t going for deliberate shock value goals or “shipping.”
With a 9-10 episode first part, they could have given everyone what they wanted. They could have had He-Man solidly in the first 3 episodes killing him off in the 3rd in such an emotional way it would leave us old-timers not only devastated but eager for more. Use episode 4 to transition into a dying magical world trying to survive with the loss of He-Man and Skeletor and set up the following episode where we see Teela and Andra meet, rather than “next episode we meet Teela and her ‘friend’ Andra on a practically dead world.” Hell, if this was supposed to be a series which wanted to emotionally cripple old timers like me, I’d have been fine if were three season 13 episode series where He-Man dies at the very end of season 1, season 2 picks up with the aftermath of his death, and season 3 is He-Man’s return to defeat Skeletor.
Let’s now talk about the plotholes in this series which tie together with the amount of episodes. These are the biggest things that damage the series the most! The biggest plothole and the most important one is “SPAN OF TIME!” How long has it been since Prince Adam’s death and we see Teela with Andra - days/weeks/months/years - WHAT?! When did they meet? Where did they meet? What happened to Eternos? Did King Randor go all Mad-King Targarian or was Eternos get sacked and destroyed now that He-Man was no longer there to protect its people? Did King Randor put a bounty on Teela’s head for leaving? Remember she was a sworn member of the guard to the King. I doubt he would have just let her leave unless he had a good reason not to go after her. What happened to all the other Masters - Clamp Champ/Ram-Man/Stratos/Buzzoff/Tusk Man and many others in the aftermath of Adam’s death? These are questions and things fans should have been focusing on rather than “will Teela and Andra be together?” Kevin Smith said this series had what others didn’t... STAKES. What are those stakes?
Speaking of Teela and Andra and I know this will be a touchy one for most. I feel that their dynamic is directly done to “queerbait” people. Now I am not saying we can’t have LGBT couples in series, it’s just that writers either need to commit to establishing these couples or not at all. Only doing glimpses or hints at, is for a lack of a better term a Kobayashi Maru - (a No Win Scenario for the Non-Star Trek fans) like it was with Shiro in Voltron Legendary Defender. And if and when this blows up in their faces, like it did the Voltron writers, they have no one to blame but themselves.
Star Trek Lower Decks like every other Star Trek since “The Next Generation” have no qualms in establishing certain characters as LGBT. It is how you do it, and many of these shows need to follow the example from Star Treks TNG/DS9/VOY/LD. This series are a clear testament that you can have Straight/Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual relationships without “queer-baiting” or overtly shoving it in people’s faces.
The writers have made it clear that there is something between Teela and Andra but while also making it clear there is still something between her and Adam. Which regardless of how part 2 ends is liable to upset the fans they “catered” this series to. Who do you make happy and who do you ostracize? And with today’s social media are you going to handle the backlash of giving one and not the other? I personally would prefer Teela and Adam to be what kids today call “Endgame,” but ever since the Keith & Allura tradition was soundly destroyed in Season 2 of Netflix’s Voltron, that when it comes to Netflix series I just simply don’t care anymore who ends up with who, I want a well thought-well developed story.
The character designs of Teela/Andra/Evil-Lyn I understand they wanted a more “modern” realistic feel to them, which I am neither for nor against. Because let’s face it spandex-clad or barely covered barbarian fantasy women with chainmail is a product of the 70s/80s/90s. It is alright to have modern designs for characters but not too modern. Especially when we have shows like Game of Thrones and others to draw references from.
I do admit, I am not a fan of Teela’s design. I understand the reasoning is to make her a “Strong Female Character” but there is more to being a strong female character than looking strong. Strength is also one’s character, how they grow and develop. Teela’s stubbornness, fear, and anger at her “past life” are preventing her growth. If this is the way they portray a strong female character then they have no business doing so.
Kimberly Brooks’ Allura is a far stronger woman than this Teela ever will be. The burdens she shouldered, admitting she was wrong and not gloating when she was correct, the forgiveness of a race responsible for the genocide of her’s, being a diplomat while also being a warrior, sacrificing her well being for others all contributed to her growth from “Princess who just woke up” to Strong Female Character by the end of Season 6.
Teela understandably was hurt by the lies that filled her life. Sure she built a life away from those lies, but she was running away from them. Rather than confront the reason why she became bitter and ran away essentially. She was only forced to confront those lies to save Eternia and the universe and even then there really wasn’t any humility about it. Instead, it is all about her. Not once in this series have I seen growth for Teela’s character like Legendary Defender’s Allura, and let me be perfectly blunt - I had no love for Allura after Season 2. Not once did she admit she was wrong or apologize. Not once was she willing to sacrifice her life for the greater good - instead she was willing to let the whole universe die because of the lies she was fed her life.
Now let me address the whole Race-Bending “controversy.” As with the new designs, I am neither for nor against them. I understand the arguments on both sides when it comes to Andra and King Greyskull. One side argues it appeals to young black girls and boys while the other argues they are being tired of being handed “Hand-Me-Down” characters. Both sides have valid arguments. But honestly, as an old Masters of the Universe fan, it took the so-called “race-swapping” of Andra for me to even remember her because she was never that important and even betrayed Teela for Faker in the Injustice vs Masters of the Universe comics and even then she appeared in maybe 5 panels at most.
Now King Greyskull, at first I was against, I’ll admit it but then I changed my tone looking at myself and my family. See I am Bi-Racial, my mother is white and my father is black. My father’s sister married a white guy and had 6 bi-racial kids. Two who in turn gave birth to white-skinned blond-haired blue-eyed kids. Had they gone the “bloodline” path Prince Adam could have been a representation of not just blacks, whites, but bi-racial and mixed-blood peoples.
I realize this is coming out on the eve of that new He-Man and the Masters of the Universe series, which as a He-Man fan since 1984 (when I was potty training) I will give it a shot, maybe even write a review of it. But I still have my reviews of Godzilla: Singular Point, Pacific Rim: The Black, Star Trek Lower Decks, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2045, and other series to write on top of work and my family life.
-------------------------------~ Question and Thoughts Time ~---------------------------
As I mentioned above,  had many thoughts and questions which I believe were pivotal in the development of this series. Questions and thoughts should have been vocalized during the writing stage rather than fans asking them. These are of the first 3 episodes and some of episode 4. If you are a fanfiction writer who wants to explore these feel free to do so, I will be more than happy to read if they answer these questions and make the mini-series more enjoyable.
Keep in mind these are questions and thoughts I had because I am also an aspiring writer of my own fiction - that I am keeping close to my chest until I feel ready to release it.
Any true He-Man fan would question why is He-Man on a mechanical horse when he would be using battle cat
I do like the celebration happening at the same time quote-unquote He-Man is approaching Castle Grayskull it makes you think Adam is missing out on an important event
In the original series, Castle Grayskull had defenses that the Sorceress could call upon to confuse and combat an enemy who breached its walls how did Skeletor learn about the true secrets of Castle Grayskull when it should only be the Sorceress that knows of such secrets
If the Sorceress is so powerful and so smart why was she tricked by the faker He-Man he doesn't have the power sword?
I love that Orko is still a bumbling magician in Eternia’s realm. Shows how different realities have an effect on others
Adams entrance to “I have the power” let alone his playful jab at who “He is” should have been a hint to Teela
I do like the scene between Adam and Teela in the hall. It really makes you think that they actually are friends from childhood that grew up together and possibly have a future together.
My knowledge of the 38 years of the canon may be a bit shady now, but hasn’t Skeletor always needed the Power sword to get into Castle Grayskull like he always needed it in the comics?
They hinted that his mother knows he's He-Man and that she does reveal that he is He-Man after the battle. I know a mother knows these things about her child. But how did she learn Adam was He-Man and how did she not tell King Randor
Again how did Marlena know He-Man was her son and not tell her husband?
King Randor’s response is feasible but Teela’s response, because everyone lied to her is understandable - but she's a warrior. She is also a sworn captain of the royal guard, sworn to the King. She can’t just quit like that, can she?
How much time has passed between the death of Adam and when we see Teela with Andra
What has happened to the Royal Family in this time? What about Eternos? Has King Randor and Marlena revealed that he-man was their son Prince Adam? With He-Man out of the picture Has Eternos Fallen? Did Randor go all Mad-King Targaryen and become a ruthless tyrant?
What has happened to all of the other Masters? Ram-Man/Buzzoff/Clamp Champ/Fisto/Stratos/ and so many others? Were they killed off? Did they disband? Or were they exiled, WHAT?!
What about Snake-Mountain? What happened in the aftermath of Skeletor’s apparent death? Did Triclops and Beastman betray Evil-Lyn?
How did Teela meet Andra? What is the “When, where, and how” behind their meeting? What did she do to gain Teela’s trust when she felt betrayed by the world?
What is Andra’s background or history in this series besides being an engineer?
When old hag gives Teela and Andra their mission you can obviously tell it's evil-lyn
He-Man flashbacks are kind of nice but it would have been nice to have a build-up for such flashback or have a series season before his demise with such flashbacks that way it could be more poignant
I do like the idea of Triclops and Trap-jaw building a technical but what put them on the path for this techno cult
The cult kind of feels like the Borg as much as I like the idea of Trap-jaw and Triclops making a cult I don't know how I feel about it being Borg-like
This may be controversial but Andra feels like the stereotypical POC Rooky sidekick you see join the main character on their quest.
Like Grace Randolph said this whole Teela/Andra angle may come up and bite everyone in the ass later on if they don’t follow through which will piss off all the old-time fans and if they don’t follow through with the Teela/Andra angle and make Prince Adam/Teela are a couple then all the LGBTQ fans will be pissed off about that
I can already foresee it happening just like it did with Voltron Legendary Defender with Shiro being gay and his ex-partner Adam being killed in combat
We do get a hint of what the king did after the final battle but still what happened in that time after Prince Adam was killed? Did king Randor go off the deep end and become a dictator, what? These are questions that needed to be asked and answered during the writing stage
When did Evil-Lyn, Cringer, and the Sorceress make an alliance to save what little magic is left and in essence the entire universe?
I have the suspicion that was the Sorceress finally trying to tell Teela she's her mother Ford Shadows that the Sorceress is going to die and Teela is going to take her place
Did Teela really name Cringer, or was it something to boost her up in this mini-series?
Did cringer really tell Tela the Adam loved her?
Thus Begins the quest to reforge the sword to go to heaven and hell to get the parts and rebuild the Power sword thus queue Duncan
How much time has passed between the end of the previous episode and the beginning of this new one?
How is time measured on Eternia?
If Skeletor truly wanted to kill He-Man why didn't you take his power sword when he was shackled up?
Kevin Conroy is ma as Mermaid Man if he gets more roles as mermaid man he might grow on me
Instead of gloating, why didn’t they take He-Man’s sword if it was their prize all along?
Typical 80s cartoon ponds very nice
If Evil-Lyn preached that Man-at-Arms was the most dangerous man in Eternia why didn't they act like it why did they act like He-Man was the most dangerous one?
I do love the jobs both Teela and Evil-Lyn take at each other because they are pretty much the same. Evil-Lyn is Skeletor’s version of the Sorceress and Teela is practically He-Man sorceress when she accepts her destiny.
Teela has seen her father fight hundreds of times how could you not recognize his fighting style?
I like how beast man's loyalty never swayed from evil when I also like Kevin Michael Richardson parentheses? As Beastman I thought I would like him as King Grayskull but I I do like him as beast man
Orko like Castle Grayskull does provide a little hint as to King Randor’s reaction to Prince Adam’s death. I feel this is something they should have put into the series
I feel that all of Orko's scenes in episode 3 and my Following episode 4 are tainted because of Kevin Smith revealing he gets killed and why he decided to have Oracle killed
Why should Beastman show a little fear to Andra who is she to him?
I like that you can still see that Man at Arms still loves the Sorceress and I also find it funny that when it comes to that one huge secret something always gets in the way
Again I hate how they portrayed the span of time in this?
How did they go from a Forest Village so halfway across the world?
Something's been nagging me lately could Evil-Lyn be related to both Teela and the Sorceress somehow?
It could be a reference to how similar the Figures were in the 80s but in some scenes, Teela and Evil-Lyn’s facial structures look almost identical could you be separated sisters?
The further this point it's funny how Evil-lyn and Kela can just cut through the bullshit between their infatuation with He-Man and Skeletor
Again what time something happened between evil-lyn and Merman we don't know what just that he seems bitter that she didn't take over the land while he took a while he tried to take over the seat
It seems that there are undertones to a massive war and the wake of Prince Adam’s death.
I kind of like how even evil-lyn kind of shows that she may be afraid of subterranean
With half of part 1 ended could Skeletor have them influencing her? Why did she have to retrieve the Havoc staff head?
How does Evil-Lyn know so much about the Subterranea?
Teela facing a false He-Man could be a hint of her feelings for Adam. But I think it would be more of a visceral scene if it was Prince Adam and not He-Man.
Was that a hint of Teela becoming the new sorceress?
Scenes between Orko and Lyn were a nice touch. Maybe a better connection between Orko and Lyn than Teela, He-Man, and the others?
Orko’s sacrifice could be the beginning of the Dark-Orko storyline?
Was that the Sorceress’ most recent ancestor, Teela’s Grandmother or GREAT-Grandmother?
Why didn’t Adam finish the chant? If Kevin Smith borrowed aspects from everything relating to He-Man, then why didn’t Adam finish the chant? A few times Adam has been run through in which he could finish the chant to become He-Man.
If Teela is such a badass, why didn’t she attempt to stop a reconstituting Skeletor from stabbing Adam?
Really Andra? You are going to sass Skeletor? He doesn’t know you and would sleep like a baby dispersing you. You are nothing to him, you are lucky he didn’t decide to run you through with the power sword.
And really Skeletor? Because no woman could love a face like your’s? Thats your motivation?

Auction #1
Type of fanwork: fanfiction
Fandom: Marvel, DC, Stranger Things, Game of Thrones, Supernatural, Mo Dao Zu Shi/The Untamed, (honestly, just email me if you like my writing... if I know your canon, I'm probably down)
Pairing(s): I'm a multi-shipper who loves underdog/rarepairs, existing WIPs are for Winterhawk, Winteriron, Winterironhawk, Robb/Theon, Billy Hargrove/Steve Harrington/Dean Winchester. Platonic/grey-ace pairings welcome!
Character(s): there isn't a character from any of the canons listed that I won't write
Rating: General, Teen, Mature
Marvel WIPs:
Crimson & Clover: Urban Fantasy AU; 616 Clint & Bucky, endgame Winterhawk. Clint Barton has finally done the Right Thing(tm) and left his life of petty crime with Cirque du Nuit behind him. He’s got a GED, a bow, and coffee- and not much else. In the process of rebuilding his life, he runs into a not-so-tall, dark, and handsome stranger. Literally. He thinks a spilled latte and a bump on the head will be the end of his encounter, but with each successive run-in, he realizes that maybe luck just isn’t on his side and outrunning his past might not be in the cards after all. Current WC: 15k.
Half-splitting the Problem: Winteriron canon reversal! Feared dead after an attack on his convoy in Afghanistan nearly three months ago, the CEO of Barnes Industries has once again defied expectations. Having survived the attack and his subsequent captivity by the terrorist organization, The Ten Rings, James ‘Bucky’ Barnes has returned to American soil and turned his company upside down. Tony Stark, a young man from humble means with few options, has been working his internship with SI R&D for nearly a year now. He’s noticed activities that can only be described as ‘iffy’ at best, but with a boatload of student debt and a work history peppered with reprimands and missed deadlines he’s decided to keep his head down for the almighty dollar and hope for the best... Until he stumbles across Obadiah Stane’s personal project. Current WC: 1.5k
Seraphic (Hallowed Incorporeal Entities) Liaison Division, AKA: S.H.I.E.L.D.: Winterironhawk wingfic! Bucky Barnes has been assigned a new Seraph partner and he’s not happy about it. Tony Stark is that  Seraph and while he’s not thrilled either, it really is a lot of fun to push Barnes’s buttons. Clinton Francis Barton, unbeknownst to him, is their first assigned charge. And honestly? He could use all the help S.H.I.E.L.D. can spare. Current WC: 3k
Misadventures in Solitude: Clint Barton-centric, fwb Winterhawk, open to endgame romantic Winterhawk, alternative Clint pairing (except Nat. Sorry, for me they are always platonic soul mates), and/or poly. Just a day in the life of Clint Barton, coffee-riddled, exhausted corporate cog. He did all the “right” things- went to school, got a decent white-collar job, moved to the big city- so why is he so unhappy? And lost. Except, shit... he’s actually lost. Where the futz is he? Current WC: 1.5k
Part I:  The Space Between Us: 616 Winterhawk; Space! Kidnapped Clint! BDSM. This is technically part one to the fic I finished a few months ago on my linked Ao3, Show Me the Miles. Bucky has been chosen for the “away team”, as Stark likes to call it. While Bucky is bored almost to tears watching Stark and Rogers schmooze with extraterrestrial royalty, Clint is snatched while on a milk run mission back on Earth. Bucky, suffice it to say, doesn’t exactly take the news well. Current WC: 5.5k
Marvel HC:
Fairytale Winteriron AU: Bucky/Tony Bucky is a sprite with moth wings. Tony is a sprite with butterfly wings. Their peoples have centuries of animosity and sharp words for each other. Then ‘the fire(fly) nation attacked’ and [choose which one here] is injured, only to be saved by the other! Begrudging friendship and appreciation turn into more. Endgame is sprites in love. \o/
Completion WC Estimates:
Crimson & Clover, Estimated 40k+ upon completion.
Half-splitting the Problem, Estimated 15-20k upon completion.
Seraphic (Hallowed Incorporeal Entities) Liaison Division, AKA: S.H.I.E.L.D., Estimated 20k+ upon completion.
Misadventures in Solitude, Estimated 10k+ upon completion.
Part I: The Space Between Us, Estimated 15-20k upon completion.
Fairytale Winteriron AU HC, Estimated 15-20k upon completion.
GOT WIP:
Manual for Spaceship Westeros: Robb/Theon; Space Colony Au! There is tension between the loose planetary alliance that calls itself Westeros. Robb Stark, as the only full-blood Stark son of age, is sent to negotiate a stronger alliance with Iron Born, a terrifying clan who has made a small water planet habitable through the genetic modification of its ancestors, sweat, and blood. Robb arrives to seek an audience with The Greyjoy and make his offer- the hand of his sister Sansa. But The Greyjoy deems this insufficient and Robb quickly finds himself on the offering plate. Current WC 2k.
Completion WC Estimate: 20-25k
Stranger Things & Supernatural:
Billy Dean Was My Lover (working tongue in cheek title): main pairing Steve/Billy (possibly Steve/Billy/Dean?); Billy/Dean; crossover plot-ish fic! When his dad called and ordered Dean to pack up Sam then head for the Midwest, he didn’t ask questions. Apparently, strange things were happening in small town Indiana; which was usually a Winchester’s bread and butter. Yet even Dean and Sam aren’t quite prepared for the kind of strange Hawkins has, especially with John failing to meet them at the town’s motel. But there was something even more surprising than the super-powered teenage girl and a whole new world of monsters...
Hearing the name of Dean’s tape-swap penpal out of some preppy, polo-wearing guy’s mouth. Current WC 1k.
WILDCARD, AKA: ANY HC/PROMPT FOR THE ABOVE PAIRINGS AND FANDOMS LISTED.
If you like my writing but aren’t into the WIPs here, I will write a fic that is a minimum of 10k for any character, ship, platonic pair, for any of the fandoms listed above. I’m also happy to write for material/canon I know but that isn’t listed above. If I know it well enough, I’ll write it for you! (Exception being RPS.) CIRCLE OF IRON
Tumblr media
PART 3 of 6 TEARS
Rey was asleep in her bed when she heard the main door to Lord Ren’s quarters open.
Immediately, she felt pain, fright, and fatigue.
They were so immediate and so personal that she turned on the light and examined her body for wounds.
“Rey. Wake up. I need help.”
It was his pain and fright and fatigue that she was feeling.
Kylo Ren’s.
Rey threw her leggings on under the long black tunic that she had gotten from the clean clothes to use as a nightshirt, and went into the main room.
He was sprawled across the couch, and his mask was lying on the floor, on top of his surcoat.
Rey quickly put her teacher’s mask in it’s usual place.
His tunic and undershirt were torn and there was a nasty blaster wound on his side.
The bolt of plasma had seared past him, both cutting and burning him.
But he was holding his other side.
“Ribs are cracked. Can hardly breathe. No doctors. In the bathroom. First aid box. Cabinet under sink.” Kylo panted.
"Not even Talia?"
"No. She'll put me in a bacta tank. I'd rather die."
Rey got a bowl from the kitchen, and in the bathroom she filled it with hot water.
She brought the first aid box, soap, a washcloth and towels.
“Can you lift your arms?” she asked.
He shook his head.
Rey got scissors and cut his tunic and undershirt, down the middle and down the sleeves and then pulled the bloody remains away.
She cleaned mud and blood off of his chest, and away from the wounds.
Rey found bacta ointment, and slathered it on the blaster wound, then put a gauze dressing over it with tape.
“I’m looking for a compression bandage. I’ll take off this top tier of the kit. Underneath."
There was a white compression bandage in a package.
Rey cut it open.
It was a large wrap, and the inside had pods of bacta on it.
Rey couldn’t lift Kylo Ren to a sitting position without using the Force to help her.
She wrapped the compression bandage around his ribs, and closed the fasteners.
Then she gently lowered him back onto the couch, with his head against the arm.
“Boots off. Pants too. Whiskey, first.”
“But surely you have better painkillers…”
“No. Fogs the mind. Whiskey.”
Rey didn’t see how anyone could drink Huttese whiskey.
It smelled antiseptic, and it was a green, viscous, oily liquid that was damn near a gel.
Kylo gulped it down like it was water.
She pulled his boots off, and without really thinking about it, unbuttoned his pants.
He wasn’t wearing underwear, just some kind of cup attached to a waistband.
Rey pulled his trousers off, too.
“Surcoat and pants down laundry chute. Remains of tunic and undershirt in disintegrator.”
Rey noticed, as she came back from taking care of the clothes that Kylo’s har was filthy, bloody and matted.
She got some shampoo from the bathroom and washed his hair with the water from the bowl, then she rinsed it using two bowls, and looked at his scalp for wounds.
There weren’t any.
She used the last clean towel to dry his hair until it was damp, and then put all the dirty, bloody towels and washcloths down the laundry chute.
“I’ll get a pillow and a blanket from your bed.”
Rey ran to do that, too.
Kylo moved a little on his own for her to put the pillow under his head.
Just as she was covering him, the main door opened.
Someone had used an override key.
It was Captain Phasma.
She wasn’t wearing her usual uniform, she had on a pair of black First Order coveralls, and her head and hand were bandaged.
“Don’t cover him up yet, Miss Rey. You can’t leave him there all night with that cup strangling his balls. Get that whiskey away, and I’ll take it off.”
Rey saw in the chrome surface of the hood over the stove that Phasma quickly kissed Kylo Ren on the lips as she covered him up.
“Phasma. I’m sorry. It’s Wednesday.”
“You fought bravely, my Lord Ren. You deserve a night off. A week, from the look of you. Miss Rey!”
Rey came back from the kitchen.
“Kylo has taken very good care of you. You will look after him. For as long as need be.” She ordered.
“You didn’t have to tell me that.”
“Just remember, girl. Every week has a Wednesday. Until the end of time.”
Rey thought that Captain Phasma purposely kissed Kylo Ren goodbye in an intimate way, to show her partial ownership of him.
“I will be checking up on our Lord and Master. Regularly.”
“He’s not my…”
Phasma slapped her, sharply, across the mouth.
“Desert rat! Your belly is full of his food, the clothes he had made for you are on your back! You are not rotting in the sand or freezing in a Rebel tent in a threadbare pair of ancient coveralls because of Kylo’s kindness to you! He bloody well is your Lord and Master, and don’t you ever forget it!”
Rey actually felt somewhat chastetened, but she remained defiant.
“No tears? No looking away. You show promise, girl. If you ever learn your place, we might be allies.”
“Allies? In what?”
But Rey knew what Phasma was talking about.
The Captain swept out of the room and Rey closed the door and activated the blast shield.
That woke Kylo up.
“What happened?”
“Nothing. I closed the blast shield. Do you want me to stay here, with you, tonight? I can sleep in the chair.”
“Please.”
Rey got her blanket and curled up in the chair, staying awake until he had fallen into a deep sleep.
She had no idea why she had rushed to help him, or why she wasn’t using this opportunity to escape.
It’s because the more I come to know him, the more I see him as a man and not a monster or an enemy. In my mind he’s already my teacher, Kylo Ren. My
“Rey.”
Rey jumped.
She heard General Organa-Solo’s voice as if they were in the room, together.
“Don’t speak. Answer me through the Force. Use your mind. I sensed great pain and fear from my son. What happened?”
“He was wounded during a combat mission. His ribs are cracked on one side, all black and blue. He can’t hardly move, and it hurts him to talk or breathe. He also was grazed by a blaster, on the other side. It burned and cut him. I washed him, and dressed his wounds and put this bacta wrap on his ribs, but I think he should be in the Infirmary. But he won’t go. He hates doctors.  Especially on Star Destroyers. He won't see his own doctor, who he trusts, because he says she'll put him in a bacta tank, and he would rather die. I had to undress him, today and he has a scar that wraps around his thigh and crosses from his hip up to his navel. It looks like it’s from an Imperial torture droid.”
“They tortured him to the point of death, then had medical droids heal him, and then they tortured him, again. That’s standard procedure.”
“Why would Snoke have his own apprentice tortured?”
“Much of Sith Training is torture, of one kind of another. They wanted to break Ben. But Ben can’t be broken. There’s a place inside him that he can retreat to where nothing can reach him.”
“What do I do, General?”
“Take care of my son for me, Rey.”
“I will.”
***
Rey slept badly, and woke up early.
Ben was breathing regularly, but when she looked under the blanket she saw that his whole chest on that side was black and blue.
Rey didn’t know what to do.
General Hux.
The red-haired Arkanian often ate with them, and his rooms were right next door.
She had heard Hux say things like, “when you were still Ben Solo”, so they must be something other than rivals.
Rey left Kylo’s rooms and went next door, and started pounding on the door.
Hux opened the door almost immediately.
He was still in his nightclothes; a long, black, long-sleeved nightshirt with three buttons at the top.
“I don’t know what to do! You have to look at Kylo!” Rey said.
“I’ll know what to do. Show me.”
 ***
General Hux took one look at Kylo Ren’s condition, and returned to his room.
He came back with a hypo, and injected it into Kylo’s neck.
"I hope that was enough. We'll take him to Talia."
Then he called for the medical droids.
They took Kylo Ren to the Infirmary, and the same Twi-lek doctor examined him.
She looked extremely upset, and ordered that he be kept sedated and put in a bacta tank.
General Hux visited, often, and so did Phasma, but Rey stayed in Kylo Ren’s room all the time, except at night, when the doctors made her leave.
She was sitting on the sofa in the main room, reading a book from Kylo’s room when something very strange happened.
A little light on the radio blainked.
Beside it was a piece of tape, and on that piece of tape were the words “TIE Radio.”
Rey went all the way to the hangar, got into Kylo’s TIE Fighter, and picked up the radio.
“Hello?” she asked.
“Rey? What happened to Ben?”
“Han? Is that you?”
“Yeah, it’s me. Where’s Ben?”
“He’s in the Infirmary. In a bacta tank, under heavy sedation, because he hates doctors and infirmaries and bacta tanks. He broke some ribs on a combat mission, and his chest is all black and blue. He also has a flesh wound, from a blaster. I was up all night, the first night, listening to see if he was still breathing. They’ve got some kind of rebreather on him, now. His doctor said he’d be in the tank for a week. He’s got two days to go.”
“You sound worried.”
“I’m worried he’ll wake up in the tank. What’s going on?”
“When he’s better? Tell him the deal with the rathtars went through.”
“What deal?”
“Aw, shit, Rey. I guess you know there’s special rationing and rules in the Galaxy, now there’s a war on, but there’s a black market where you can get things, outside the rules.”
“Yes. And?”
“Well, that’s Ben’s operation. He siphons off guns and coax from First Order caches, I trade it for booze and cigarillos and shit like that with our business partners, and he has people who distribute the swag through all the First Order ships and bases. And the rest of the Galaxy, to some extent. Heavy on the Outer Rim. After we pay our partners, he gets sixty percent and I get forty. I don’t just do it for the money. But it’s good money. Hell of an operation. I do it to keep tabs on the kid. Now you know why he said there was no money in killing me.”
Rey was a scavenger; she had grown up among pirates and flyboys and smugglers.
She immediately understood.
“Can you stall your partners, or do you need the shipment, now? He told me nothing; if he had told me I could have got it to you.”
“Oh yeah, I forgot. We’re all in the same business, aren’t we. It’s in the TIE Fighter. In the floor. Inside the fat part of the left arm. The compartment opens from the outside; you can’t see if it’s loaded.”
“Hold on. I’ll go and thump it; if it sounds hollow we’ll know Kylo didn’t get a chance to load it.”
Rey checked.
Not hollow.
“Where’s the drop?”
“Now. At the old Skywalker Farm, on Tattoine. I’m waiting.”
“Give me the co-ordinates. The way Kylo has this thing souped up? I’ll be there before you know it.”
Rey told the deck crew that she had a mission to undertake for Lord Ren, and they had to let her go, and say nothing.
The old Jedi mind trick, one of the first things he had taught her.
Rey flew like the Devil was on her tail, but it was still night when she made it to Tattoine.
She and Han and Chewie loaded and unloaded in a hurry.
Thankfully, Han didn’t ask too many questions.
“Are you alright?”
“Fine.”
“Good. I hope the kid lets you stay in the business. Every smuggler could use a good scavenger.”
“Maybe I’ll see you guys next time, too.”
Rey had just enough time to hug Chewie and Han before she blasted off, again.
***
“Yeah, I agree with you, Chewie. She’s going to make a good addition to the family. If Ben doesn’t farkle it up. “
 ***
Rey didn’t even know how to approach the subject after Kylo returned from the Infimary.
So, she just came out of it, as soon as the door was shut.
“I made the drop with your distributor, and picked up your shipment. The message is that the rathtar deal went off, fine.”
“You did what?”
“I’m a scavenger, remember? I know the business. Why are you still in it?”
“For the personal satisfaction it gives me to know that I am undermining everything that Snoke does. And robbing his precious First Order blind. Also? There’s no money in being Kylo Ren.”
“There’s no money in being his apprentice, either. I want in.”
“You’re already on the First Order payroll.”
“That’s nerfshit money. I want in your operation. I’m the best scavenger on Jakku. I could find a single Imperial gold piece in a mile of desert. Take me with you the next time you raid the Imperial stores, and I’ll find all the shit you’ve been dreaming of getting your hands on that you could never see.”
“I’m not giving you a percentage.”
“Why not? I’m your apprentice. I want ten percent.”
“Ten percent? Never. Two.”
“Five?”
“Let’s see how good you are. If I like your work, five is reasonable. I’ll give you two percent of this month’s take, for picking up the shipment.”
“That’s fair. I’m sorry you had to go to the Infirmary.”
“I’m glad they kept me knocked out. I can’t start your training again until next week, so I’ll explain the operation to you. If you go back to the Resistance base, we could break into that market.”
“Just booze and cigarillos and shit? Or are you going to sell fuel and arms to your enemies?”
“We’ll see.”
Rey could see that Kylo had some kind of huge master plan.
But he wasn’t going to tell her about it.
Yet.
They were talking, over food.
Rey looked into her plate.
“It’s good you’re better, Kylo.” She said.
“Thank you.” He replied.

Music, audio/podfic, mini/posters, miniature plush/ies
bookmarks
Lanyard
pins
Emojis, washi tape
Bag; pencil case or standard tote bag
K: we got a lot of different ideas for extras! Though we would love to make them all, there are limitations to what we can reasonably do in our time frame.
However, we will continue to look at our options available, as well as gather information about possible manufacturers for some of the more unique ideas!
T: Even if we can’t do some of these, we will consider trying them out at a later date, after publication of the zine!
Comments/Questions:
What types of submissions are you looking for? Are you looking for new work or established work?
K: please check out the FAQ! We are asking for you to submit your portfolio as well as your best three (3) images.
Zine work must be original and created specifically for the zine; please don’t submit previously completed work or work that isn’t yours!
T: When applications open we will be asking for up to three of your most recent completed pieces. These examples do NOT have to be related to the corruption theory/canon monster Steven.
In terms of what kind of submissions we are looking for, you can submit traditional art, digital art, mixed media, 3D art, etc.  We’re also accepting submissions from all artistic skill levels.
I can't see from your blog whether you're accepting fic or not but my interest depends heavily on the involvement of fic and other written work. If I were to apply and get accepted I could only contribute fic, and I'd be twice as likely to buy the zine with a large volume of fic involved. As for the merch I know my suggestions involve more effort and likely more expense than the typical merch involved so I have no expectations for any of that stuff to be included, I just think they sound like cool ideas! Overall this zine sounds very interesting and I look forward to hearing more about it!
This seems like a very cool idea! Will this be an art only zine, or will writers be welcomed to apply?
K: We’ve gotten some interest in written work for the zine, so we will be opening it to writers as well as artists. You will be given a separate application if you are a writer once apps open!
T: Please note that any written works for the zine MUST be proofread by at least two people, and you must also have at least one editor. We want to make sure your pieces are as high quality as possible! (I will personally be available as a proofreader/editor if you so choose!)
What is the charity about?
T: We want to find a charity that focuses on mental illness research. I’m particularly interested in finding one that focuses on schizophrenia
K: we will not be announcing the charity until we know the zine will be happening in full. Stay tuned!
How many artists will be allowed to join the zine? How exactly would one go about the application process?
K: please read the FAQ! 50 artists are going to be accepted, but this number may change depending on the amount of submissions we receive
Applications for artists and writers will be open on APRIL 27TH and close MAY 27TH
Should I keep liking SU after it’s ended? I already get made fun of for it and I’m not sure I can keep my interest.
T: I’m not sure this is really something we can answer for you. But, since you DID ask, I’d say this: you shouldn’t let people dictate what you do and don’t like, as long as it isn’t hurting anyone. If you like SU then you like SU.
K: this isn’t really something you should be asking a zine, if i’m being honest! But your interests should not be determined because of others. If there’s something you like, you should like it, no matter what others say. There’s nothing wrong with liking cartoons or SU, live your life!
Do the themes of the zine have to be specifically about the physicality of corruption itself, or could different things (IE- Steven getting therapy, him bonding with other uncorrupted gems, etc) also be shown? Furthermore, ships will be allowed as is stated in the rules, but I would be more comfortable if the team could confirm all Steven+gem ships are restricted, since he is a minor and the gems are not. Thank you for your time!
K: as stated in the RULES page, anything relating to incest or pedophilia will not be allowed. This includes ALL Steven/Gems ships. No exceptions.
T: To answer your first question: yes! As long as your idea is in some way related to corruption (canon or theory) you can do whatever you want, it doesn’t have to be specifically about the physicality of it all.
ALSO: Your pieces do not need to include Steven/have him physically present.
I doubt I'll be able to buy a physical copy because the shipping for Croatia is usually upwards of $40, which I can't afford :/ that's why I'd like to contribute!
T: Oh wow, that’s a lot! We’re glad you’re still interested in contributing!
K: Applications will open April 27th, please submit if you would like a chance at a slot! Good luck to you!
However, even if you don’t get in, please don’t lose hope! Digital versions of the zine will be released after physicals! So you will still be able to purchase the zine for a reasonable price.
