#I rly enjoyed episode one and can’t wait for more!

The first two episodes were wonderful and I really enjoyed the imagery and cinematography along with how every actor embodied the character but here are things I will complain about because I can:

1. I don’t want to see R*ck in it, why did they have to show his face…

2. Sally Jackson still just seems like a Random White Woman™️ to me. The acting was good but something just isn’t clicking for me. Also…the way she was a hardass on grover…i did not like it.

3. WHY WAS THERE BARELY ANY ANNABETH?? my girl is the star of the show!!! she’s supposed to be the one to show percy around camp and have that funny banter where he asks her questions and she answers all of them without answering at all, leaving him more confused than he was before. that was the best part of the intro chapters imo. WHY DID CH*RON TAKE HER PLACE???

3a. the full shot of a little percy standing next to chiron’s absolute wagon while walking into the hermes cabin still absolutely sends me 😭😭. it ALMOST makes up for a lack of annabeth

4. why was annabeth just hovering there in the infirmary and not nursing him like she did in the book😭 they rly made her stalk him instead of just being the person who introduced him to everything. in the book, he was already taking mythology lessons with annabeth by the time the quest came around. she didn’t feel quite as integrated into the narrative as she should’ve been. i did love how blunt she was though. she’s many things, but apparently a liar isn’t one of them.

5. clarisse didn’t call him prissy

6. why was smelly gabe so…sanitized. he’s a loser who doesn’t treat them well but his depiction also doesn’t live up to the abusive pos he really is. the interactions with him didn’t have the same gravity as they did in the books, they just seemed too lighthearted…he also should’ve looked greasier. i know abuse comes in many forms and doesn’t always reveal itself right away but he was a lot more of a pushover than i would expect him to be if sally stood up for herself

7. the plot about the hellhound that sets up luke as the traitor…simply vanishing. annabeth shoving percy’s ass into the water to figure out he can heal was funny though. would’ve been cooler if it healed a giant hellhound claw mark rather than a nick

8. percy doing some half-assed flossing on a rock alone while waiting to be maimed during capture the flag, not knowing who his dad is or if he’ll ever get his mom back is so fucking funny in the most miserably way but also…why is he a fortnite kid, this is supposed to be 2006 😭. the implication that annabeth is standing there silently watching him almost makes up for it. i can’t imagine what was going through her mind…like girl that’s your future husband good luck

Oh, God, I never saw someone talk about Ninjago's Arabic dubs, and let me tell you as someone who grew up watching them, they are absolutely horrible. Their voices are either too squeaky or too deep; their VAs don't suit them, and as you said, they keep changing. When I was little, I obv didn't understand English enough to watch the English dubs (considering that I was 4-5 when the show started), and when I finally started watching the English dubs (I was about 11-12, and it was Hunted), I was shocked by how good the VAs are??? Like omg they actually have consistent VAs??? that actually suit them??? I think that the problem with the Arabic dubs is that they always put women to voice little kids, teenage girls, and women, and very, very old men for (male) teenagers and adults. This way, a very old woman in the show might end up sounding like that random five-year-old, and boys all sound the same. They also frequently mispronounce names; for example, they pronounce Cole as Cool? Faith as Feeth (with a soft th) or something similar? Spinjitzu ends up sounding like a keyboard smash? AND they always translate puns and jokes word by word to the point where the joke isn't even a joke anymore; it's just a random statement that doesn't make any sense. There's also the fact that they even mispronounce some words (I remember Cole in Hunted once said "يبدو لذيذًأ" but the VA said "يبدو لزيزًأ") or they say some words in the Egyptian dialect (which I don't really mind tbh, but please stick to one thing).

I have never seen Crystallized in the Arabic dub, but wth happened to their voices?

WAIT, I also remembered something. "Tragic" scenes usually end up really funny in the Arabic dubs, and I've never realized that they were supposed to be sad until I got a tumblr account and saw people saying that they cried watching them (e.g. Zane's first sacrifice, the Overlord possessing Garmadon, etc.)

arabic dubs are always a mixed bag. i rly can’t complain about lloyds voice actress because she does attempt to make her voice less high pitched when lloyd is aged up. how i think this all works though is that the voice actors are part of a group/company and other companies who want voices for dubbing would have to hiring them as a group rather than separately getting the voice actors (i assume it’ll just be more expensive this way) which would explain the constant changes between the voices actors.

the main jokes that rarely would get translated would be the ones that make a joke using english words. like the usually “duck” gag that happens in cartoons cant rly be translated to arabic so they usually don’t. sometimes the jokes in english would end up being completely different jokes in arabic but i enjoy those because it does show that they’re putting in more effort for it to make sense for arab audiences (this whole paragraph is me talking abt cartoons in general)

i also don’t mind the occasional dialect slip tbh but it is weird when it happened when they’re saying characters names (in the last clip i posted jay refers to kai as “قاي" ? who’s قاي 😤??)

i had to go watch the episodes you referred to, and for zane’s first sacrifice honestly they did a decent job i personally enjoyed it BUT GARMADON GETTING POSSESSED… it’s something alright… i wouldn’t say the original was “tragic” but it was a bit more serious but the arabic dub isn’t serious or funny it’s just.. it’s something

MY MAIN QUESTION TO U ANON IS! how did u even watch this on TV?? with the arabic dubs only covering some of the episodes and not all of them, just how was is it like on tv? i do remember that sometimes on arabic cartoon networks some shows that had the plot progressing each episode would sometimes be aired out of order, so was ninjago like that??

saint :( so i saw this tik tok about single fathers and how lonely they must feel once their kids leave after their weekend with them. someone said that they can’t even imagine the kind of pain it must feel to come home after work to a quiet house that’s empty, going to sleep with no one home, no one to talk to and ask about your day, to tell you goodnight. just sitting down at a table made for 4, eating leftover dinner from the fridge and then all by yourself on the couch watching tv just for background noise and to pass the time until it’s time for bed. this, all while knowing that there once was a time when you had a family to come home to and do all these things with :( and i’m just thinking about gojou and how that must have been what he felt like during the years and how it might possibly be for him in the future. just imagining that if they have shared costody of sachi and gojou’s just like, “i know i can’t make it as well as mum does, but i made you your favorite” or him sleeping in sachiro’s room when he’s gone cause his sheets smell like him :(

Rise of Flynn Rider - THOUGHTS

THE PROMISED LONGER POST ON THE RISE OF FLYNN RIDER- spoiler warning!

Ok so first off, a very brief summary: the book centers on Eugene and Arnie (Lance), childhood best friends. The orphanage they've grown up in is financially struggling, under threat by a crooked tax collector, and they're both aging out of the system; the only clue Eugene has to his parents is a letter from the woman who left him there, which is signed with a ~mysterious symbol~. When a traveling circus run by the Baron (yes, that Baron) passes through town and Eugene learns of a possible lead on his past, the two boys reinvent themselves, join up, and eventually end up entangled in a scheme to steal from the King and Queen of Corona. 

I won't lie, I enjoyed this one a lot- it was a fun read, very cozy to curl up with, and even with some contradictions, it felt like a novel that was derivative of the series and set in that world. There are a lot of cameos and references, enough that I think most TTS fans will find something they like to nibble on.

Like I said in my earlier post abt the prologue and first few chapters, I'm so happy that Lance got a role alongside Eugene- he's definitely a secondary character to Eugene’s main, and he does get sidelined somewhat, but it's charming to see his friendship with Eugene and his growing passion for cooking. 

'I didn't expect anything, so I'm more delighted and pleasantly surprised than genuinely unhappy with the execution' is a running theme with this book for me and basically the tl;dr of this write-up.

There are soo many cameos and little treats- I get the impression Calonita didn't have the most complete knowledge of the series, but her chats with Chris and interest in the series’ writing definitely show. King Edmund, the Stabbingtons, all of the pub thugs, Weasel, Stalyan, and the Baron all make appearances, and we get cameos from Cap, Maximus, Pascal's mother, and even Cass gets a name drop. Several series-exclusive locations are also mentioned by name- Vardaros, the Spire, and the Forest of No Return.

I'm not immune to the fannish hit of 'hey! I understand that reference!' and I really enjoyed hunting for easter eggs, so even if the presence of the pub thugs in the Baron's crew, or the boys stumbling on Rapunzel's tower in one scene and making nothing of it (yea that happened) is a lil questionable, it made me smile and I can't be mad.

I would just describe this book as 'comfy'.

(That said, I'm a little unsure who all those references are for- I feel like if you hadn't seen the series, you'd lack context and some details would be meaningless, but if you had, I think you might long for more depth and exploration...)

Structure & Progression

Here's the part where I start criticizing the book aimed at middle and elementary schoolers lmao

It's a v short book, but the plot progression still feels a little scattered- it didn’t feel quite like a heist OR a mystery. The subplot that takes up a lot of focus is actually interpersonal conflict between Lance and Eugene- and they reconcile, but not after spending much of the book in a standoff due to a misunderstanding/'liar revealed' trope.

One of Eugene's motivations for joining the circus is spotting a man with a mark on his arm that matches the one from his letter working there, and believing he'll be able to learn more abt his parents from him. He doesn't disclose this to Lance right away, and when it comes out later on, he's upset that Eugene didn't tell him- he feels tricked, and like Eugene's prioritizing his biological family over their bond. I had a hard time with this, b/c I honestly think Eugene could've literally said to Lance, 'hey, joining this circus is a great opportunity to travel, make money, send some back to the orphanage, AND I found something about my parents, will you come with me?' and Lance still would've jumped on it. Later on, there's also another similar miscommunication that deepens the rift. 

It feels like manufactured drama, and I would've loved a book of the two of them just being buds, bouncing off each other, and trying to unravel the mysteries of the DK symbol and the Baron's ulterior motives together. Lance's fears of being left behind by his friend absolutely could've surfaced without the misunderstandings, especially the closer they got to the truth. (And I don't think that'd have been dissimilar to the unused 'Trial' episode concept and flashback.)

The pacing itself... meanders. After the boys complete an initiation mission to get a hold of a special key for the Baron, time passes (two weeks in-story) and there's some slice of life as they learn the ropes, get inducted into a lifestyle of thieving (it’s revealed the circus is a front for a crime ring), and get to know the Baron's crew.

I liked these parts and would've kept them in a longer book! But maybe there could've been some fine-tuning here so big events (Eugene stealing for the first time, the heist, the meeting with the mysterious Man with the Mark) weren’t so one-and-done. There are several points where nothing's really happening because the characters can't quite connect with each other, or they're waiting around for an opportunity passively, and that makes for a frustrating exp for me as a reader.

There were also lot of elements I thought were getting set up to come into play later, but not a lot of follow through? The folk hero Lance Archer is mentioned several times and has wanted posters, but we never meet him in the flesh. The Man with the Mark is revealed to be a former member of the Brotherhood(!) named Vedis(!!), but he isn't seen again after Eugene speaks with him... once. (More on this later this post is getting so long omg) 

The Baron’s plan is revealed to be stealing a reward offered for the lost princess when it’s on display to the public during a festival. Eugene and Lance balk b/c stealing doesn’t sit well with them, especially when it’s from what are ultimately a family trying to find their lost child- they decide to do the right thing by foiling the scheme/stealing it back and returning it to the royals. It goes a bit pear-shaped and they’re caught, but are forgiven and face no consequences after explaining, other than being ousted from the circus/crime ring and making enemies of the Baron. Eugene hasn’t given up on finding the DK, but he realizes he already has a family in Lance, and that’s the most important thing; the two resolve to travel the world and have adventures together.

I want to make another post on it, but at the least it feels like a foregone conclusion given we know ‘Flynn Rider’ goes on to become a renown thief who steals the crown of the lost princess- that’s literally the plot of the movie, and being a dashing rogue is Flynn’s defining trait- so even aside from questionable ideas about wealth, class, and morality, the novel’s ending doesn’t fit what’s firmly established about his character, and I think big fans of Eugene might have an even harder time with that then me. 

(I’m very suspicious that there might’ve been some executive meddling in an attempt to soften young Eugene’s character, and send a more palatable/upstanding message to children- it feels like Disney editing the old SW films to show Han didn’t shoot first.)

It’s def one of those novels where you can take some elements you like and leave others, but overall I’d still rly rec it for series fans! I’ve been buzzing and what-iffing about it for a few days, and I got some tasty tidbits on the characters and nods to the series, which is exactly what I wanted out of it.

And maybe it’s a funky take, but honestly I want to think of this book as the beginning of an alternate timeline where Lance and Eugene got out of crime earlier, Eugene got a clue abt his heritage by chance, and it changed his course. I think embracing the retcons and contradictions to canon makes for an interesting angle, and you’ll enjoy it more if you don’t take it too seriously.

There they go again. Those slight giggles you hate to hear as you walk with Beni. It wasn’t something new but it wasn’t something you liked. Whenever women would see you with Beni, they would do 1 of 2 things.

Whisper and giggle after looking, or straight up flirt with him like you were there. Sometimes both....it was more annoying than any other thing. The best thing you can do is just ignore for now. 

But sometimes it got the best of you. When Beni wasn’t home you would look yourself over in your long mirror, your hands tracing over your body. Over every Mark, and curve. Your fingers pinching at the fat you wish you never had.

You weren’t confident nor secure with your looks or body. You never look like any of the other girls. You wanted has nice thin thighs, and a small waist, a delicate beautiful figure. Yet you didn't.... 

You wanted to feel beautiful, to be complimented, to be beautiful.

You hear the the front door slide open and closed again. You rush to put on your clothes before he can see. You fresh out of the room as if nothing had happened. Here came your hunk of a man, how lucky could you be? 

Strong, powerful, handsome, and oh amazing. He comes up to you and plants a kiss to your lips.

“Hey, how was work?“ you ask 

“Same as always how about yours?“ 

The parts with you hating your body? Or the women laughing at you? 

“It was fine, just waiting for you“ you faked a smile at him.

“Well come on Konro made your favorite tonight” he said as his arms wrap around your waist. You slowly pry his arms off you and give the best smile you can muster

“N-no thanks, the l’m not hungry...”

“What? You never miss out when Konro cooks. Are you feeling alright?” He tried reaching for your forehead

“I-I’m fine really! Just feeling kinda tired i think I’m going to call it a night” without a kiss or hug goodnight you turn and walk away. You left Poor Beni stunned and confused.

You never turn down your favorite meal, ans you never go off to bed without a kiss goodnight. Something was up and you were clearly upset. He went straight to the one person he can trust with anything.

Walking into the kitchen Konro was over the stove. He turns and gives Beni a smile

“Hey, foods almost done. Is Y/N ready to eat? I know she loves this!” Konro said hopefully

“...She turned down dinner” he said in a disappointed tone “she’s been acting weird and I can’t really pinpoint why.” he leans against the counter getting deep into thought

“Well, I might have a theory but I really hope it’s not true..“

“Well?“ Beni wanted to know any kind of approach that would lead to solution to your problem. At this point he wants to know everything that bothered you to make it go away. To see you smile. 

“Well..she’s been making comments on her weight and looks. I always tell her you feel lucky to have her but she insists she’s the lucky one“ he says with a guilty look, almost as if he felt sad to say it “..she’s been skipping meals or just cutting portions. I tried to- Waka?“ when he turned Beni had been long gone. 

He quickly walked to your shared room sliding the door open. There you lied under the covers, you face facing the door. Beni closes the door and walks over to his side and sits 

“I know you’re not sleeping...” you didn’t budge “Come on tell me what’s going on so I can help you” his hand came over your hip and that’s when everything broke. Your body shakes as sniffles slipped from your lips 

“How can you love me when I’m so ugly..“ you sniffle out. Now Beni was in full boyfriend mode, his heart broke to hear you use those words. In no way were you ugly, he loved you more than anything in this world. He lifts your body into his arms and into his embrace. As much as you wanted to push away, you really needed him right now.

“Listen to me, you are NOT ugly, you’re far from that. What could ever put in your mind that you don’t deserve me?“ he asked brushing hair away from your face

“I-I always see so many beautiful women with thin bodies, and delicate figures...I could never look at beautiful and you...“ you sigh heavily  “you should be with someone like that...not me-“ he had crashed his lips on to yours with force 

“Don’t you dare put yourself so low! I love you, and you only!“ he stared deeply into your eyes 

“you’re perfect how you are. You could be as thin as a stick or how you are now and I’d still pick you. You’re the love of my life.“ he kissed your nose 

“Oh Beni...you really mean that?“

“I only speak the truth, besides“ he pulls you closer “I love your curves, gives you a beautiful shape. If you were as thin as those other women I wouldn’t have anything to hold on to~“ he smirked 

“Beniiii“ you whine as your cheeks heat up. He nuzzles you neck laying a few kisses 

“My *kiss* beautiful *kiss* Gorgeous *kiss* princess *kiss* i love you“

“I love you too Beni“

“how could he still be with her, if I were him I’d leave her”

caryl first date headcanon

i wrote a stream of consciousness caryl headcanon i was thinking about when i couldn’t sleep last night. no i did not proofread it. yes it is rambling nonsense. yes you can read it if you want: 

so i genuinely don’t know what the timeline for canon is gonna be now that we got bottle episodes, s11, and the spin-off, but just for a moment let us pretend that it happens during the bottle episodes and then we have all of s11 to watch caryl trying to figure out how to navigate a relationship with each other

cuz like, they gon fuck right away, bc things are gonna get heated, and tensions are gonna be high, and they’re gonna snap like a trip wire and fucking ravish each other, that’s without question

so the first little while of their relationship will be mostly getting intimately familiar with each other’s bodies down to every last freckle

but once they’ve simmered down some they’re gonna need to address the “oh shit, wait, how does a relationship work?” problem

cue: caryl’s first date

it’ll take place in commonwealth, and i’ve never read the comics and i know jack all about it outside of what i’ve skimmed, but we’re gonna ignore that for the sake of my fun post

i know enough about it to know that there are definitely places to have a date

daryl knows this too, tho he doesn’t rly think about it right away. at first he’s more confused and sort of standoffish about the whole place, bc he was always a forest-dweller even before the apocalypse, so seeing this new metropolis-like place after years of living like a gd pioneer is gonna throw him way off kilter

right up until he’s chillin’ with judith and she’s talking about how she’s excited to see her first concert, and they have restaurants, and things she’s only ever read about, and then out of nowhere she’ll pull out, “are you gonna take aunt carol on a date?” 

and daryl will stare at her

and she’ll be like “rosita was telling me about how father gabriel took her on a real date and how nice it was. you should do that for aunt carol” 

and daryl will stare at her

and then will hastily change the subject (she’ll see right through him, ofc, but she’ll let it slide)

but the thought will stick with him, and suddenly he’s looking at the schedule of upcoming concerts and plays and wondering if carol would care about any of it. does she like shakespeare? the most experience he would have had with shakespeare was ripping out a couple pages of his school copy of romeo and juliet to use to light some firewood

but maybe she’s into it???

eventually he’ll reach the inevitable conclusion that the only way this is going to work is if he actually asks her to go on a date with him, which should be easy, right? like, he was ball’s deep inside her last night and told her good morning by putting his face between his legs, so surely asking someone on a date is simple

it will not be simple

bc yeah, they fuck all the time, and obviously they’re head-over-heels in love with each other, they’re each other’s soulmates, yada yada, but also daryl’s extremely emotionally repressed and has the romance skills of a fifteen year old having his mom drive him and his date to his first homecoming dance, only worse bc he never even went to any school dances

but after Dwelling On It for ages he’ll finally get fed up with himself and will vow to stop being a pussy. he’ll ask her before the day’s over or he’ll shoot a bolt into his own foot, ok, no more excuses

so the whole day he’s jittery af

you’d think he’s trying to pop the question, but all he wants to do is go eat dinner with carol and then watch some people recite lines from a play written hundreds of years ago, like, what is his Deal(tm)??? 

(his deal is, ofc, that he waited so long to have her, and now every new thing feels tenuous, bc he’d rather die than lose her, and sure she knows him better than anyone, but never in this context, and plus her last dude basically bled passion and romance no matter how obnoxious, and what if she realizes just how fucking clueless he is and decides she doesn’t really want to be with a middle-aged man who still gets tongue-tied around a pretty girl?)

(but also she deserves a gd date, alright? she deserves it, and so he’s going to give it to her, even if going face-to-face with a walker horde is less intimidating)

carol notices something’s off with him right away, but she waits until after dinner, when the kids have gone to their rooms and the two of them are alone washing dishes to ask, “hey, so what the fuck?” 

and daryl will be like, k, it’s now or never

and he will 100% make a fool of himself by stumbling alllll over his words, like, “nothin’s wrong, i’m fine, everythin’s real fine, i was just wonderin’ if mb you’d wanna, y’know, i dunno, they got all these shows and shit that we ain’t had in forever and i didn’t know if mb you’d wanna go see one? and mb get some food? with me, i mean. like, together. like i’d take you there and we could do those things, like a, you know, a date. but it’s cool if not, no worries, i get it if it’s not your thing, but i just thought i’d ask, but no, you’re right, it’s stupid, forget i said anythin’, hey look at the time, well i’m beat, gonna go to sleep now, goodbye”

and carol will go, “hold up”

and she’ll take daryl by the wrist before he can flee the room (bc he definitely intends to), and pulls him close and kisses him all sweet, and she’s gotta stand on her tiptoes to do it bc she’s in a pair of knit socks and he’s got his boots on so there’s more of a height difference than usual, and after she’s successfully managed to keep daryl from falling straight into a panic spiral, she’ll whisper, “i’d love to, let’s go this weekend”

and then she’ll just turn back to doing dishes without another word on the matter 

(bc, as previously stated, she knows daryl better than anyone, and she knows exactly what all his insecurities are and how much it must have taken him to ask her that, and so she’s not gonna harp on it or tease him)

(daryl recognizes this and loves her desperately for it)

the actual date is way easier than daryl expected

bc he spent all this time hyping it up, but when it comes right down to it, he just gets to spend a night with carol where they don’t have the kids to worry about, or any council business, and they just get to enjoy each other’s company

she even dressed up a little for him, which was unnecessary, but he most certainly appreciates it and can’t wait to tear the outfit off of her later

(it does make him regret the fact that he’s only had one pair of pants for the past ten years, but she doesn’t seem to mind)

they end up seeing a shakespeare play

daryl understands like 2% at best, but carol holds his hand and rests her head on his shoulder the whole time, and apparently it’s a comedy bc she laughs a lot, and that alone makes it worth it

they fuck like crazy when they get home, obviously

but it’s different than it had been previously, bc now their “togetherness” seems more solidified

like, they’re officially a “couple” now

like the type of couple that gets a babysitter for the night so they can go to the apocalyptic version of dinner and a movie together and then have sex and then fall asleep right afterwards bc they’re domestic af

and like, deep down both of them knows that this isn’t the life that they’re meant to live in forever, a la commonwealth/domestic bliss, and he wasn’t kidding when he told her new mexico was still out there, and he can feel a shift coming sooner rather than later

but he also knows they’ll be together when it happens, and they’ll figure out their own version of “date night” when they’re out exploring

but for now he’s content to do it the old fashioned way, though

when she falls asleep on his chest that night he rubs her back and kisses the top of her head, and he’s already planning their next night out

he might pick a show with modern english, though

but it’s not required

just so long as they’re together

Pretty sure your sudden spike in Fate content is gonna be like the third time I check something out bc you started posting it (I know next to nothing about Fate. In fact, I think I now know less than before you started). I'm rly not sure what the best starting point to get into it is, though. Any recommendation? (also I got Moriarty on your quiz and now I want to know why he's so beloved)

Oh sick! Awesome! I hope you enjoy it! 

Uhm, so, Fate notoriously swaps out like their whole creative team from work to work, so some of it is really good, and some is really bad, and some in the middle, because it’s made by very different people. The things I am most into are UBW, and Fate Go. Fate Go is a little gatcha phone game, that suffers from the fate of the whole fate franchise but as a single unit. They swap out writers from arc and event to arc and event, so sometimes you’re living and thriving, and sometimes you’re like *thousand yard glazed, pained stare* ‘why the fuck did I download this game?’ Very mixed bag. I enjoy it because I just kinda blow through any arc I don’t like and skim, and then go hella into the good ones, but it’s very much an individual matter of taste one. It’s very fun to collect spirits and get to know them though, and some of the arcs are fantastic. Also, they have made/are making some of the Fate Go arcs into shows, and I expect the ones that are of good game arcs are good? But I haven’t actually checked any out myself yet--I really need to watch E Pluribus Unum, because it was an easy top 3 arc for me in the game.

I’m big into Fate, but I actually have approximate knowledge of many things? And have not consumed as much media as you’d think. I tend to hear people really like Fate Zero, and very mixed reviews of Apocrypha, but I would wholeheartedly recommend the Fandom Classic(tm) and my personal fave as where to start, which is Unlimited Blade Works.

Sorry this is so long. Okay, so. Originally, Fate Stay/Night was a visual novel with three paths/routes: Fate, Unlimited Blade Works, and Heaven’s Feel. All of these are shows now. Unlimited Blade Works was made twice. Do not watch the early one; it’s bad. Watch the 2014 TV series--it’s on Netflix right now. Don’t watch the English dub--the VAs are...not great. 110% recommend watching it in Japanese/original dub, with subtitles. (This one)

My usual pitch is that if you’re a normal person, you’ll probably go “This was a little confusing, but I really got into it: 8.3/10″, and if you’re like me and you never really gave up on wanting to become a superhero and save the world some day, you’ll go: “It was fantastic, 18/10, but it also ripped out my soul and left me wounded but somehow in an okay way.” Either way very worth watching. Since it’s not the first route, there are some things they don’t explain about the world because they kind of assume the viewer will know, but that’s pretty minimal--it’s def coherent enough that the more confusing bits are more of a “Uh, okay. I think.” than a “W-What the fuck is going on?”

It’s really good. Two seasons, the most beautiful fighting in almost anything I’ve ever seen, phenomenal soundtrack, and one of the best show opens (Season 2′s) of any show I ever saw. All around a just big blanket rec from me. It’s a long-time fan favorite for a reason. It’s one of my fave shows ever :’-] It was. Very personal to me.

Uhhhh what else--okay so, on Netflix if you watch it there, and a lot of streaming sites, they list “Episode 0″ or “Prologue” as the first episode? This was originally bonus content, not the first episode. It’s basically the first episode from not the MC’s point of view, but a different major character. It’s got some really great character moments and insight into Rin and Archer, and it’s fun, but since it was originally bonus, the pacing is super weird? So I would recommend you start with actual episode 1/Winter Days, A Fateful Night instead? Unless you just want to. Like it won’t mess up the show, but it might give you a weird idea of what the pacing is. So you can watch it first if you want, or later whenever you’re curious about those two, just like, if you start on it, don’t get overwhelmed by the stuff they’re not explaining, or the weird pacing. It’s supposed to be bonus content haha.

Woof this is gonna be a long ask answer. Uhhhh, so Moriarty is from Fate Grand Order/Fate Go, the phone game. The game has three major arc sets so far: Grand Order, Epic of Remnant, and Cosmos in the Lostbelts. He’s from Epic of Remnant, and he’s universally beloved because he’s amazing. The MC in Fate Go is like 16, but he or she (you get to pick) is constantly having to risk their life and be hurt and traumatized and watch people die to save the world because there’s no one else to do it, and usually people are...not super nice to them. Moriarty shows up in the first of the second set of arcs and is like ‘Haha that’s a wholeass human child tho. Guys. Guys, a-are you sure about this?’ and he’s really there to pull of a massive evil culmination-of-my-life’s-entire-work-and-value scheme, but this kid is nice to him, and has nobody who looks out for them, and Evil Has Standards, so (Arc End Spoilers for that one ahead) he ends up giving up basically at the last minute. He had a plan that was totally working and could have won, but can’t really pull the trigger, because winning would mean this kid who has been nice to him and is already a massive pile of trauma and pressure and mental illness would die, and he cares more about them than his life’s goal. In Go usually boss fights are progressively harder, but his is super easy because he throws it, and chooses to lose, and basically throws away his life’s work for this one kid because nobody else is taking care of them, and lets himself get killed. This is a pattern with him. Other high points include later being 5 seconds into a scheme when Frankenstein (the girl one, who in fgo is like 14) stops him to call him Papa and asks for help, so he adopts her on the spot and just is her dad forever after that. He’s very goofy and I love him; he’s evil, but I’d trust him with my life, because he’s more good than he is evil, even though he’s both. Basically he’s just a very interesting and well written villain, but he’s also like, the /best/ dad in the game at the same time, and his dialogue is amazing. Evil Has Standards team dad poster man. He’s like the only adult in Fate Go who actually is responsible, which is fuckin wild. I’ll try to find some good screenshots of his dialogue. Anyway he’s incredible and I’m so happy you got him; Crime Papa is life.

and tonight was just one of those times:((

so in attempt to do some ~self care~ u had just finished brewing a cup of chamomile tea 

and in that moment u get a text from ur friend winwin 

and hes all like “y/n!!! we HAVE to start this show tonight i heard its sooo good !!”

(btw he always adds a bunch of cute stickers at the end of his texts aw)

and tbh u were reeeeallllyy hoping he would contact u

because u rly enjoy watching shows with him :D

like back before lockdown began u would go to his apartment every weekend and go on a full on netflix /binge/ 

and winwin always made sure to stock his pantry full of yummy snacks and he would pile up his couch with lots and lots of soft blankets and plushies

he would just go all out to make sure u were comfy and having a good time while u were over 🥺

and no matter what kind of day u were having, going to his place always made u feel so much better:’))

but since u couldn’t go to his apartment anymore u both came up with the idea of watching shows together over zoom!

but after a while it gets pretty late

but ur eyes are literally sore from staring at the screen for so long

so u two just agree to stay on the call and chat for a while

and he’s just talking about this new choreo he’s been working on and how he cant wait to show it to u

and ngl ur kinda sleepy and dozing off but then u hear a loud *ding*

and ur like did i get a text ??? but then u realize its actually coming from winwins laptop

and my guy still has his screen mirrored so u were able to catch a glimpse of the little message preview in the corner

and its from some dude named lucas and the text is just like “dude are u gonna tell y/n u like them or not smh”

and by the time winwin realizes u can see it and scrambles to close the notification its too late😳

and even when he tries to close it more messages just keep popping up

its still lucas and hes just like “bc i know uve liked them for so long” “bro u gotta just do it now” “istg sicheng dont be a wuss” LMAO

and winwin just kinda accepts defeat poor guy

hey! i was just wondering if you think spn will actually make destiel canon by the finale? it seems like in interviews they're trying to let us down gently w/a cas death (which possibly makes it seem like cas's ending might be related to his empty deal?) + all the parallels between saileen and deancas, and it looks like dabb and co (while not rly bringing arcs into conclusion and generally making a mess of spn) are fighting to make it canon, i was wondering what ur take on it was, esp after ep09

Oh, my dear, my heart is swelling with love for those two right now. I just watched the show through from 12x19-15x13 and I swear, that moment they share in 15x12, clinking those glasses and sharing all those smiles was like balm. It’s not even five minutes of screen time, and still it was like, okay, yes, good, thank you for the room to breathe. :D

It seems to be that Cas hearing Dean’s prayer has ushered in some much earned peace between them. They’re shown to be on the same page and taking each other’s side unquestionably. Dean trusting Cas’ judgment regarding Jack without pause. And that’s a good word for it: there’s trust between them, mutual respect, understanding. It’s so lovely, isn’t it?

So, there’s this line that’s sort of stuck with me. Actually, there are two things that have stuck with me (apart from all the gorgeous symbology baked into every episode) and it’s that the word “complete” has been mentioned twice.

Once in reference to Mary in Heaven, and once by Amara in reference to God.

Then we have a line that’s recurred twice: I had to die to get what I want.

The fact that its spoken verbatim twice made my antennas perk up a bit. It may mean nothing, as some things in this narrative sometimes do mean nothing, but it’s still interesting to take these things into account: that we’re searching for completion and that sometimes, in order to get what you want, you have to die.

So. Will Cas die?

I don’t think so. I don’t think so for many reasons that I’ve laid out here (I just posted this) (it was like you read my mind that this was coming today), but foremost because I cannot see how him dying does anything for his character arc, or for his joint journey with Dean.

You know, dark!Kaia (Kaia’s Shadow) going back to the Bad Place (Kaia’s unconscious) and accepting the ending waiting there, releasing our!Kaia back to the world where she belongs, makes me think, more than ever, that the integration of the main character’s Shadows are a necessity. 

The Empty, way I see it, is representative of Cas’ Shadow, his unconscious, all the repressed and suppressed emotions of guilt, shame and doubt that has kept his self-worth down until Jack came on the scene. 

And this is just my reading of this situation, but I’m not sure I can see Cas defeating the Empty in the Empty, if you know what I mean? The last time Cas intruded, the Empty made him suffer greatly. I don’t think Cas holds any sway there, nor should he. 

To me, the weapon our conscious has against our unconscious ruling our decisions, is our ability to grow aware of our own impulses, our own thought patterns, and making choices to break away from them.

I think Cas can only beat the Empty through making a choice and, well, for a long time I’ve felt that choice should be to become human, because by making a final choice of who he is and who he wants to be, he brings himself into awareness, integrating his Shadow in the process, and narratively nullifying the Empty’s hold on him, since humans don’t go to the Empty when they die: they go to Heaven. 

But that’s wishing and hoping and speculation, of course.

Here’s where the Destiel question comes in though.

Do I believe they’ll make it canon?

Personally, I can’t think of anything more a part of our story than the love story between those two, but I know what you mean. You mean a representative, tangible, clear, statement type of making it canon. Textualising it, so that there’s no room for doubt whatsoever. No more arguments, no more queer baiting complaints, just Destiel in plain sight. Undeniable. 

I do and I don’t.

Watching these last few seasons through again made me realise what a different feel to them this last season has, because the emotional stakes for Dean and Cas have everything to do with what they mean to each other. Yeah?

Dean taking his anger out on Cas and it pushing Cas into a turning point where he chose to leave, to move on, which was a moment of clear independence a statement of his sense of self-worth, and it in turn pushing Dean into a turning point where he faced a side to himself that he’s needed to name since forever, admitting to not having any control of himself, which is something he has to acknowledge if he’s to move into trusting himself fully, all of this has been gosh darn breathtaking to get to witness.

And having them land back in this ease, where they work together seamlessly as a team, being kept together more than not, the framing of them, all of this makes me feel like they could give us canon Destiel. I’m not going to say they absolutely won’t. 

I believe the writers want it. I believe the actors want it. But, again, that’s just what I take from the narrative itself, because the subtext is stronger than ever this final season. 

Especially with Sam and Eileen being reunited.

Because it’s been that clear parallel you mentioned, but it’s been that clear parallel to those of us who see it. The echoes of the Saileen romance that trace through the Destiel progression won’t be as resounding to those that don’t.

And because of that, at this point, I also feel quite reserved with my belief that Destiel could become canon. Because there’s so much, but there’s also nothing. There’s so much for us to enjoy, there’s so much evidence they keep throwing at us that the writers support this reading of their story, but still, there’s nothing, really, to let on that they’re building towards these two men, at some point, declaring their love for each other.

There has been zero textual foreshadowing of that.

There have been throw away moments, like the cop flirting with Dean, for example, but he frowned at that, and then got sincerely flirted with by a woman, so that deescalated that very quickly. 

There was Dean at first rejecting Garth’s compliment of “You smell SO good”, becoming uncomfortable, to then, by the end of the ep, tell Garth he didn’t smell half-bad either.

And there was that amazing moment with Cas calling out Sam being “sexually intimate” with Ruby and Dean repeating the words as if he can’t believe Cas even knows how to pronounce them.

So, there’s... you know, stuff?

But it’s not foreshadowing if it can be overlooked by the wider audience.

That said.

This show isn’t about this love story of ours. The fact that it’s so downplayed could mean that what we’ll get is something textual, but extremely subtle. I mean, for me, lingering eye-contact and a shared smile in a context that makes us understand they’re choosing each other would be enough.

If, by canon, you mean do I think we’ll get them kissing, then the answer is I want to believe that we might get that, because they could build towards that on the foundation of ease and trust that they’ve put down over the last few episodes and they could build it effectively, but I just don’t know if the studio (who own the characters) is onboard. 

My hope is that they are, because the topic of healthy representation is so hot right now, and the question of the longevity of Supernatural to the younger generations (you know, you young ones who are proving exceedingly more open-minded and looking for something beyond the superficial brothers-hunting-monsters aspect of the show) would bank on the show opening itself up to the possibilities of solid representation already seeded throughout its run.

But Dean has flirted with more women than men this season. You know? I mean, he hasn’t flirted with any men. So. 

Look, I’m not going to say I don’t think we’ll get it, because I don’t know. 

I watched S15 yesterday and finished it today and suddenly I feel this wave of hope that it actually might happen, because they’ve already changed how Dean and Cas interact, they’ve given them so many scenes with just the two of them, and we have Sam clearly meant to end up with Eileen, and doesn’t Dean and Cas deserve that same happiness? That same sense of completion? That internal peace of loving unconditionally and being loved in return?

Sam and Eileen could be foreshadowing. These writers are subtle and they could be gleefully rubbing their hands together at the thought of springing textual Destiel on the GA, you know? The green light from the studio might make them diabolical. *sadism* And I love that thought.

Because that’s been the point of the love story for me, this slow, slow build to the moment when Dean and Cas have reached a point in their progression when what they’ll have together is a healthy, balanced, loving relationship because they’ve both let go of the past and are looking to the future.

But I won’t expect textual Destiel. If we do get it, I’m going to treasure it as a big cherry on top of an already perfectly inviting and exquisite pie.

What I do believe, more than ever, that we’re getting, though, is closure. Even if it’s only at the subtextual level, I believe that those of us who read the subtext will have Destiel verified beyond a shadow of a doubt. And yes, I will be quite surprised and disappointed if we don’t get that. Because of how these first 13 episodes have been shaped and how strong the subtext is in them.

I believe we’ll end on a hopeful note.

And wouldn’t that just be gratifyingly phenomenal?

(it really would) (honestly I just need to know that they are happy and alive and together and well and finding peace and carrying on) (you know?) (thank you and amen) :)

fun fact, you and i are in a very similar position with jun haha. i have a lot of wips with him too, but like, i've never finished a jun fic outside of short little one shots... which is quite frankly obscene because minghao has a word count dedicated to him that's literally more than everyone else in seventeen... I don't even know how many times more because my latest fic with him just reached about 50k... but jun is meant to be my second!!!!! i really want to finish something long with him 😭

And look at someone who both writes and enjoys angst, no angst is ever too much hehe. there's a weird sense of catharsis in tragedy, at least my onion. i think my favorite fics are actually angsty ones. i love happy endings for movies and stuff, but the fics that make cry and hurt are my fave?? kinda interesting, the contrast. but yeah, i think you’re right abt that, there are always those lingering ‘what if’s’ those angsty fics always leave you with T^T i mentioned this in the most recent ask, but i can’t write in chronological order rly, lol. i tend to just write scenes that pop into my head first, and then go back and piece it together. it’s tricky for sure, but if i try to move chronologically, i tend to get stuck. so i just jump around instead. and i did that w jun. i divided it up into 4 parts, and then wrote fcertain scnes and then went back to add what i felt i needed to fill in the gaps!! but not trusting yourself w the details, i literally did that w this fic. there are some inconsistencies but it’s posted now and i’m like…too lazy to fix it LOL. but maybe i will……..

favorite episode and why:  at the risk of sounding like everyone ever, i have to go with mizumono. as much as i love so many others (twotl, controno for the jack/hannibal rematch, dolce, digestivo, suzakana, tome wan, naka choko to name a few!) the impact of mizumono stayed with me, touched me on another level, it lives in my brain rent free and i think abt it daily. for so many reasons but a few would be the almost hard to look at heartbreak on hannibal’s face before he guts will, the way will accepts this as penance, these lines of dialogue:

the build up from the beginning to the final moment of the episode felt like a tumble into an abyss, i regard it as one of my favorite episodes of tv ever. i’m so glad i got to binge the show in totality bc if i had to wait a year to see who survived/what happened after mizumono i would’ve gone apeshit.

least favorite episode and why: hm. i think s1 is the weakest of the three, not to say that i didn’t enjoy it but having the story as a completed whole i can see where s1 is the prototype for the complexity to come. it’s hard to choose one for this as i’ve found something to enjoy in each ep, no matter how weak!

favorite main character: definitely will graham. i’m ill for him endlessly and the fact that he probably uses stinky 3 in 1 body and hair soap makes me love him more. 

if you could bring back one character who died, who would it be? bev and abigail equally, you can’t make me choose. 

dish prepared in the show that you would like to try eating/making: sanguinaccio dolce, i’m not a huge meat eater so nothing else has rly appealed to me that much but i am very curious abt this dessert. 

which side character would you kill off: this question made me realize that every character i wanted to die in hannibal did die (and ones i didn’t want to die, horribly) so i will have to agree with amie here and say mason verger deserves another death, just as a treat.

was there any scene that you didn’t like to watch? hmm… any scene with mason and alana interacting bc he was always so disgusting to her it made my skin crawl. for a show that arguably lacks sexually-driven violence towards women, having mason say anything ever felt much more infuriating and i think that’s the point. any scene with dolarhyde and reba made me uncomfy as hell, which i also thought was the point but just seeing how sweet reba was and knowing what kind of person dolarhyde rly was! the sex scene with them? i could not. shutting my eyes. honestly francis in general was hard to watch, i was just feeling very tense whenever he was onscreen, so kudos to richard armitage for playing that role so well.

biggest ship: i’m basic, the murder husbands have my ass but i’ve been thinking a lot abt bedelia/chiyoh! and marlana ofc. 

why did you start watching hannibal? i was aware of the show when it was airing bc i was on tumblr, i think it’s hard not to be aware of hannibal on here. i knew i would become obsessed with it but i didn’t have cable tv and i didn’t want to stream it illegally, plus i was in my senior year of high school and was trying to focus on college applications at the time so i postponed the hyper-fixation i knew i was in for a while. i forgot about it, saw it on netflix, binged it immediately and now i’m here, thinking of nothing but this show all day every day. 

favorite hannibal fic if you’ve read any? i’m new to hannibal fic so i actually am in the middle of my first post-fall longfic atm, i’ll have to get back to you on this one bc i haven’t read anything else to definitively make a statement on a fave. 

have you watched any of the hannibal films? when i was younger like 6 or 7 i watched the silence of the lambs, it was part of the handful of movies that got me into horror when i definitely shouldn’t have been watching stuff like that but i was a precocious child, what can i say, and then a few years later i watched the hannibal rising film with gaspard ulliel during a brief stint as a fan of his. that’s all, but i would like to rewatch/watch all of them someday. 

have you read the thomas harris books? i recently picked them up so i could do so, but knowing they’re homophobic and transphobic has set my excitement off a bit. i would still like to get thru them if not just to know the source text, i just struggle reading things that make me angry like that, but horror is horror so i know i’ll survive. not a thomas harris book but i’m in the middle of an essay collection on nbc hannibal right now and enjoying it immensely, it’s called becoming: genre, queerness, and transformation in nbc’s hannibal. i would highly recommend! 

favorite murder tableau: i have to agree with amie again and go with the angel maker! if not that, i thought the “secondo” firefly will made was beautiful.

favorite blood spill: the absolute carnage that is the finale’s red dragon showdown. the transformation by blood ritual of it all, oof.

haha yeah, i’m definitely glad i’m not the oldest (bc that’s way too much responsibility for me, idk how they do it) so being player 2 as a younger sibling isn’t too bad, especially since it’s the story that i’m usually more interested in rather than the gameplay itself. i don’t have to worry about remembering which buttons to press in a fight when i can just watch the plot play out lol. ahhh friend that’s so nice!. your brother sounds really chill. plus it sounds like a good balance: you get to watch the story, and he gets to dick around!! win-win. and as for my fav games, I’m up for anything! I try to avoid co-op games like Overwatch bc I get too competitive and I’m a sore loser lmao (but they are fun!). the last games I played were the Last of Us 2 and Persona 5, two very different games, but stuff that’s a good time nonetheless. tbh as long as I can immerse myself in the story and there’s tons to explore, I’m down. what about you?? you’d kind of mentioned otome games and Animal Crossing, but I’m curious!

hm. interesting. that’s a nice way to look at it. I guess if it’s a really good game, it’s no different from an interactive movie! also Kenma would love that omg you’re going to save so many villages in the rpgs he plays w you.... gotta max out EVERYTHING. every side quest! every mundane task!! collect literally every feather!!! but I feel like he would pass the time by making idle conversation. like some dumb shit Lev had mentioned earlier that day. such a nice way to unwind at the end of the day, shit talking Lev w his fav person 😌

anyway! going back to completionist stuff: Kenma would have such a blast going back and replaying games w you! and yes bless games w a skip option hhh. thankfully he’d remember all your previous choices together, so he can help navigate where to go next. he has no qualms handing the controller over, I think he’d love to curl up next to you and analyze how you play! but I also feel like he’d be giving unwarranted suggestions....... thanks, Kenma.
