Ok you're like the only person I know who draws self-insert stuff, like, A LOT so I just gotta ask: How do you... draw yourself??? Ok that probs doesn't make sense but like... I wanna draw self-insert of myself and a fictional character but I really don't like how I look (and I hate drawing myself) so I end up hating what I draw. How do u manage to draw urself for self-inserts without hating how u look?

U don't gotta answer if u don't wanna but u seem rlly comfortable with, well, drawing urself and I legit don't know what to do here. I hope this made sense. Sorry if it doesn't....

I'm so sorry that you don't like how you look ;n; I also struggle with accepting my appearance, let alone learning how to love it. But I promise that self insert/shipping actually helps with that kind of thing over time -- writing your favorite character giving you constant love/validation also helps you see yourself the way that they see you. It obviously doesn't happen overnight, but it helps!

I have been drawing myself since I could pick up a pencil, and my S/I design has changed a lot over the years tbh! The way I drew myself when I was 9 is a lot different than how I drew myself at 15, and very different from how I draw myself now. Nothing has to be set in stone, you can change your design whenever and however you please. No rules!!

Do I always wear glasses IRL because my vision is piss poor? Absolutely. Do I always draw my glasses? No. It's not that I dislike my glasses - I love them, in fact, I feel more confident when I wear them - but sometimes I will draw myself with them and think "ah that looks like me :)" and other times I won't draw them at all and still think "hm yeah that's still me!" it really just depends on how I'm feeling during the day, or during the scene of the drawing. I gotta be in the Mood™.

As for my body, I didn't start drawing my round tummy until I was maybe in my late teens. I used to hate my freckles, but now I draw them so often and I write my F/Os loving them so much, I cannot imagine going without them.

You don't have to draw anything you wouldn't want to, especially since this is a newer experience for you. And you can add whatever the hell you want. I draw myself with purple eyes sometimes just because I feel like it. Does my S/I actually have purple eyes? No, they're brown, like mine. Sometimes I put little blue streaks in my hair, sometimes I'll draw myself in outfits that I don't actually own, but I wish that I did. Again, there are no rules, you can do whatever makes you feel comfortable!!

Your drawing of yourself never has to be exact, not unless if you want it to be. And it's kind of impossible to make an exact replica of yourself anyways. Our art styles are very different, and that includes how we perceive ourselves in a fictional setting. I will often write myself walking on my toes (i'm a preemie-baby and it's common for us to just. walk on our toes constantly instead of flat-footed like a normal person lmao) but I won't bother to draw it. Orrrr I draw my nails all painted and blue and pretty, but IRL they're actually bitten and torn and I feel more comfortable writing that little detail instead of showing it.

Like... I hate drawing my body sometimes, I will draw it and think "goddamn I really look like this? >:(" but then I gotta snap myself out of it and remind myself that it's my body, it's human and it's just as lovable as those fake photoshopped magazine covers. Society drills into us an impossible standard for beauty and it's so easy to compare ourselves to others, and even easier to spiral downhill w/ that mindset. And honestly if I'm feeling especially insecure, I'll draw a F/O cuddling my stomach and saying "wow my girlfriend is sooo gorgeous, what a knock-out" or something similar and it will feel a little easier. Like I rly don't have to stress about how I look because my F/Os love me just the way that I am, I wouldn't have to change anything for them!

But it took me a long time to start drawing that way. It takes a lot of patience w/ yourself. But! As for my hair + facial features, I don't hate those very much, I just like to make my features "fluffier" because it's my art style and when I look at it I think "ah, that's me! :)" and that's all there is to it.

I hope my response helped at least a little, it was difficult for me to stitch together words that made sense lol. Take it easy anon, kiss your babes, they're waiting for ya!! 💙💙💙

OH WAIT one more thing -- it could possibly be more comfortable for you to start off in literally the simplest art style possible & take it slow. I always draw those little Adventure Time styled dot-eyes and round faces when I wanna simplify how my S/I looks. It's easier and quicker to scribble and I don't have to worry about my features too much:

my transmasc advice, as someone who’s been out 6 years:

• regardless of what you look or sound like, some cis people will call you the wrong pronouns just to piss you off. It doesn’t have anything to do with how you actually act/look. Try not to let it shake your self-confidence, because it doesn’t have anything to do with your intrinsic worth, they’re just upset that you’re trans & trying to neg you for it

• pre-t/non-t: there’s a rly small free zine about it, & i believe some TikTok vids n YT videos out there, but basically, you can try to make facial hair if you want. At night, mix a few drops of pure rosemary oil & ~1/2-1 tbsp almond oil (or something similar. jojoba oil is a lil more pricey but good for acne) in a bowl (shot glass, candle holder, etc). Rub some on where you’d like hair to grow. Do this a few times a week to try stimulating hair growth. Once some hair has grown, you can lightly swipe waterproof mascara over it to make it darker. Setting spray can help it last all day, eye makeup remover takes it off at night. I got a cheap trifold mirror (a small $15 one) and now use it to do my stubble/sideburns too. Don’t do this if you’re allergic to anything I’ve listed, obviously

• at some point I had to confront that even though I’d reached my transition “goals,” I was still a little ashamed of being trans. indie art/comics, supportive online & IRL trans communities were a big part of how I let go of that - developing compassion & love for lots of different trans people made me see those qualities in myself. This is something that was gradual and took me years

• honestly, I’m a very vocal, out trans non-binary person. So I think it does mean something when I say: you don’t have a moral obligation to disclose your AGAB, sex, gender, or whatever to anyone. You don’t have to come out to your parents if they might be shitty about it (in fact, if that’s a likely possibility, I’d recommend waiting until you’re not financially dependent on them anymore to tell them). You don’t have to explain yourself to strangers or shitty classmates or terrible friends. Make them feel weird for being nosy! It’s not a requirement for you, as the trans person, to disclose your entire diary or medical history if you don’t want to!

Just, do what’s good for you and makes you feel like you can recognize yourself/feel like yourself/feel at home in your skin. There’s no definite finish line for transition, there aren’t requirements. I have lots of trans friends on HRT, friends who’ve never been on HRT, friends who went off HRT but remained trans; I have intersex friends, perisex friends, people who aren’t sure. We’re just trying to live our lives with autonomy the way we want to live them, & I think that’s very neat :o)

so i’ve had a lot on my mind lately — the good, the bad, the ugly, you know the drill. i’m used to the bad and the ugly, but i think (and ofc by my therapist’s rec) i need to give a little credit to the good, too. not to mention the good is largely comprised of people, and those people deserve a sports stadium wave, yk? idk shit abt sports, whatever, but i know what the wave is and it’s like the grandest gesture i can think of, SO

listen, y’all. to get real here, i hate fandom. my time spent therein has been hit-or-miss, but the misses got me hard and contributed to some major self-loathing, etc etc. we’re not gonna get into the specifics, i don’t owe that to anyone, but suffice it to say things got Rough.

but so much of it can be so, so good. and rn i want to keep on my rose-colored glasses, and the rosiest parts for me have always been @kitten1618x and @mygutsforgarters

(quite a few others, too, but i no longer have everyone’s info. and some ppl are newer friends, or relationships that have moved more slowly. i have mad love for u guys too, obvs, but ik melissa and gus irl so we know each other More and they’re who this post is rly about atm. pls know i don’t want to harsh on anyone’s feelings)

the tl;dr version of events is i met them both via fanfic. i happened upon theirs like “bitch!!!! **i** wanna do this, they’re bomb as hell” and then i made them be friends w me. they’ll tell you they wanted to be friends w me first, but that’s not important bc **i** am the one making this post, so they can both like,, suck it.

ANYWAY.

@ melissa : so bitch listen. here’s the thing abt melissa…… i found her while browsing jonsa fic back when i cared abt GOT, and she brought me back to what i loved so much abt romance when i first started, way back in junior high, what’s up. i bad a fascination w historial romantic epics for a loooooong time — those formative yrs, amirite ladies??? — but girl i could never write it so well as melissa. immediately she struck this balance between the drama you expect from historicals and the levity of a good romance, and i was just like, “hand to god this woman must be published already, surely???”

(she’s not, but that’s ridiculous so we’re gonna skip that)

(also she’s busy?? we’ve been friends for like six years and i will never know how many kids she actually has, but the point is she’s a goddamn superhero and i’m obsessed w her, MOVING ON)

i just Had to be her friend for two reasons: 1) she’s too talented, and b) i have said that abt 2 ppl my entire life and she was the first, so i was like, “AH YES MY HOLY GRAIL”

so ofc i slid into her DMs just as effectively as that one guy i had a crush on when i was sixteen and he’s still shooting me texts every valentine’s day bc of the societal pressures i guess (it is Far Less Effective these days, he’s my age and therefore too young for me, gross, but i digress), except me and melissa go way stronger.

she reminded me of why, half a lifetime ago, i started writing romance — bc it’s fun, bc i want to. bc i can do absolutely anything i want, bc who else is gonna read it but me and whoever i share it with? it was all up to me what i wanted to do with it, and i could do anything. nothing really mattered but what i wanted, and i hadn’t felt that way abt anything in such a long time — let alone abt something i used to love so much.

melissa’s writing is so beautiful, it’s everything i wanted to achieve when i was fifteen and never got around to perfecting. and i’m totally okay w that now, bc what do i need to do myself that she’s not already doing/wants to do in the future? when i found melissa’s writing i found a missing part of me — a part i’d maybe lost, maybe i gave it up, idk, but it was totally gone until i found her fics and they fucking clicked. i had to reach out bc there was a part of me that was a part of her, and she helped me find that again w/o even knowing it.

so i found melissa via GOT, and from the start she’d been trying to get me to write some bethyl. years and years, she dropped not-so-subtle hints — and by “hints,” i mean legit directives that i watch just enough TWD to write her some beth/daryl fic. real crafty, she is.

eventually the stars aligned: i was bored w the same dynamics i’d been writing for years, i wanted smthn new, i was restless, i was line editing a bethyl fic she’d written, and — again — this shit clicked. her fic made me want to explore this dynamic i’d never done before, so i watched the prerequisite episodes (no more than that tho, i super hate the show and i’m begging y’all to not @ me abt it anymore). i found smthn that i’d been missing, smthn that challenged and excited me and brought me back around to why i love romance and, more importantly, why i want to write it myself.

so as i was starting to write bethyl, i was poking around the ao3 tag to get a feel for what had been done, what hadn’t, anything i might be missing. and goddamn BAM —

@ gus : this is where u enter dramatically thru a red velvet curtain that i don’t wanna touch (Metaphorically bc you do romance better than me and i’m cool w that bc your talent simply Cannot be touched, and Literally bc i hate velvet) — i was like, “please for the love of god let her want to write contemporary romance, i need some good fckin food”

i happened upon “doo wah diddy diddy” first. ofc the summary hooked me, forget my usual hard no against pregnancy fics (i have issues w pregnancy and that’s all anybody Needs to know, back off), but This Bitch !!!!!!! has a way with words and i wanted to be friends w her straightaway. lmao too bad for her, now she’s stuck w me

gus’s fics gave me what i wanted without having to write it myself. her style is so distinctive, she hits the notes between porn and Actual Affection that is missing from uhhhh, every romance i’ve tried?? (why is everyone so intent on the sex part?? fckin chill. at best it’s unrelatable and at worst u sound like u’d rather wear someone than fuck them, check urself)

she writes w such care, she wants you to know what she’s doing here, and what she’s doing here is combining the physical and emotional needs of both characters w/o infringing on anyone’s comfortability. you root for these characters bc they simply want to be together, no strings (and if there are strings, damn, they talk abt it).

gus makes you believe in love in the modern age. like, not to sound like one of those ppl who post fckin “no one in this generation knows how to love!!!1!!11!!” memes on facebook, those are dumb, but gus’s writing made me think “yeah man, love ain’t dead, it’s just abt how we approach it.”

(if y’all haven’t guessed yet, i have some hang-ups abt relationships. i’ve goddamn earned those. but melissa and gus both brought me back to where i needed to be — in this place where, yeah, we’ve got some shit to deal with, but we all still deserve the things we want, and those things are achievable. i could not have gotten here without them, so jot that down.)

gus is Real, she’s funny, she’s unapologetic in the way she writes. ofc she has her personal hurdles, but who doesn’t?? and tbh nobody writes a sex scene like gus does. physical, realistic, but balanced w the emotional depth that makes you root for these characters bc you can Feel how much they want each other — not just sexually, but in the less-erotic aftermath of that passion. it continues to blow my mind, bc i’ve never seen anyone do what she does. i can’t even pinpoint the specifics, bc she just… Does It. and you’re reading it like “yeah bitch that’s it,” and That’s It.

it’s fckin wild.

these two — my best friends, the lights of my life, both of whom always make me crave chicken tenders at THE most inconvenient hours bc somehow we always talk abt chicken or ice cream or ultimately DQ, but they're both so hot idec — have something special.

i really, really want them both to know that: it’s not just in how they’ve treated me as a friend, but who they are as people, in their creative pursuits. i’ve never known support the way they’ve shown me; i’ve never known this much enthusiasm or investment or belief that i can do what i want with my talent. i want them to know that i feel the same way abt them and their works.

sometimes, when i look back at their writing that completely kicked my ass, i still can’t believe that they’ve become two of my best friends. it’s totally bonkers. they’re This Talented, and they wanna be friends w my spastic ass? GIRL. i’m out.

i’m not always the best at being present, at giving people what they need when they need it. but with everything that melissa and gus have given me in the past few years, i need them to know this — honey!!! i need all y’all to know this, bc i know fandom shit is hard, but you should know some of these friendships are so, so worth all that bullshit, so —

they have so much to give, so much to say, so much to offer. i could not have kept going without them. i couldn’t believe in myself without the faith they’ve given to me. i hope that i can always give that same faith right back.

and that, babes, is what real soulmates are all about.

this will probably change as i get older, but for now i like "cozy scandinavian" style~ though if there's anything i'm sure of it's that i want a lot of plants!!! and a big garden!!! aha, although i prefer the bedroom to have a lot of pictures w/ friends and clutter... oh, but my eyes usually draw to rooms like below (ty pinterest)

in terms of fictional characters: sort of? it's changing a bit more now, but...

appearance wise most of them tend to be either [1] blonde/green hair, tall, probably glasses, intelligent, has a sharp tongue (tsukishima, midorima, chikage to name some)

or [2] strong muscle men who are really nice, actually (ushijima, rio busujima, tasuku, omi)

my irl type: best friend/older brother type person? as the mom friend (TM) i'd DIE for someone who will spoil me... give me sweets & lots of cuddles & for once someone who can make me look nice in a photo and i will do anything for u pls TT

Had an oddball handful of dreams this week that I wanna write down, I wanna note that I haven’t ACTIVELY been practicing dreamwork in the pasty couple of weeks (which is usually when dreams such as this tend to crop up), so its surprising to me to get them regardless- both in the same week.

The first dream had occurred Tuesday night/Wednesday early morning. It was one of those dreams that are nestled between other dreams, not connected but like hopping from one story to the next. It was set in my house, but this time in the kitchen island table where we have these stools to sit and eat at. I remember standing near these stools, but something was telling me to sit between two of them. I did. Do you know how, like in video games, they change something on your screen when you’re near something, in order to tell you you can interact with these secret? And sometimes you have to do some precision with your controller. In the dream, I did exactly that, but with my own vision- and when my vision was ‘locked on’ the spot, it would get tunneled, dark, and i would see like, a reflection of eyes staring back at me.

I’m not sure how to quite explain it logically since its a dream lol but when i hit that mark, apparently i was be able to effortlessly just- EJECT my astral form out of my sitting form. Not to say my astral vision was clear or anything of the sort. In fact when I ejected myself, I had very dark hazy vision (that cleared a bit), and i felt heavy. I could eject and insert myself back in my body in the dream. However, the final time i moved out, i floated up up up, seeing my ceiling- then i made myself turn to look down (it was very sluggish still, and the edges of my vision were dark. That’s when I saw my body sitting between the stools, silhouetted in fuzzy black- even the string connecting me to it was black. What really got me was tho, at the end of the island was another figure, fuzzy black, looking at my body. Almost immediately after noticing them, they started to go for my body. Now, i didn’t actually FEEL hostility from them, but lol my panicked self was like ‘ah ah ah don’t!’ and i dove back into my sitting form.

Then i woke up.

The second dream (well two dreams that were rly one) happened tow nights ago. It was also set in my house, this time in my basement though it was formatted different, more open. I remember it was me, in the company of my dad and two characters. One i don’t remember very well at all, other than they were the size of the child without actually being one (i think) and the other one I’ll codename Lapis Lazuli because their appearance reminded me of my tumbled piece of the gem. The dream was very… casual, actually- I also want to say i was lucid without being lucid. When you’re lucid, you have full power over your dream, your own dream body, you can will anything to existence with a flick of your wrist. I did those things in this dream, however i was not aware of being in a dream still (how complicated smh).

The first signifiant thing i did was go to the bathroom that matched the irl in my house, and I looked myself in the mirror. Lol i had a weird bald spot in my hair that i fixed with a passing my hand. But then i remember, I gave a flick of my hand and these copper framed glasses appeared between my fingers. I remember specifically thinking the words ‘astral glasses’. Now, in real life, i have read people’s accounts of needing “glasses” in the astral, because their sight is poor there. I have no doubt these dream glasses are based on that.

I put on these glasses, and at first it was like its prescription was too strong. I felt pressure, and a strain on my eyes (like real overly strong prescription glasses do to me) but then it settled. I focused on myself in the mirror and, with these glasses, i realized i could effectively see my aura outlining my body. It was green and blue (as opposed to the green and red I’ve been told by a couple of people that i have). Excited, I go out to see my friends and dad. I focused on my dad, and i saw orange and green outlining him. Then I went to the Lapis Lazuli, and it got a little weird. I saw blue and green outlining her, but then i looked lower and i saw actual THINGS. The best why i could describe it was- a tornado made of broken boulders and stone, with gravel spinning inside of it. I could hear a storm siren as well.

Then I woke up. However, I went back to sleep quickly and fell into a similar setting. In fact it was so similar i believe it was the same dream, but simply moving on. Nothing crazy happened here, other than i remember that i was sitting on my couch with the Lapis Lazuli and we were talking. But it was like she was a spirit and my clairsight was still- not the best it could be lol because she would fade in and out, and only if i focused did she solidify. We talked. I remember her saying she was annoyed when I said we have to wait until I’m in deep sleep to have full on conversations.

My dream mom thought I was crazy because from her point of view, I was talking to myself lol. I suppose that is how it would be in real life.

That’s all I remember before I woke up again. Honestly I’m both confused and thrilled to have dreams like these, especially out of nowhere. For now I have my piece of Lapis Lazuli soaking in Selenite goodness. I want to see if anything occurs if I put it under my pillow.

I literally had both the stupidest and most frightening nightmare last night 😳- few weeks ago I posted here abt someone I had cut out of my life/blocked about a year ago... and she fucking showed up in my dream last night, trying to get into my house and grab my bank statements?? Like literally pushing through the door and grabbing things, and my whole fam were there trying to block her way, because she was just NUTS. And then she was just standing outside of the door and by the windows, staring in and bashing the glass and claiming her favourite wrestlers wld be HERE ANY MINUTE (she did pretend to be, err, close, to her fave wrestlers irl when I knew her, so... her being a nutbag in this dream... and lying to the point of second-hand embarrassment...is realistic...) to defend her, and we were like ...do we call the police... ? And then she came back later in a taxi to start again and I was like... did she rly get a flight from Canada to steal my bank statements and yell at me... 😱 All day I’ve been getting flashes of her mean little face yelling at me through windows, and me having to lip read whatever shit she was saying because the sound was muffled.

***Future me coming back in to add to this post - for the girl in this nightmare, if she ever sees this: I still don’t understand why you told me all those lies about what various wrestlers (one very much in particular) had done to you when all I wanted was to be a friend to you. But you fucked me the hell up. I hope you don’t tell lies like that anymore because the fact that a person can make up and put together something that elaborate and awful, just for someone they get talking to online, is fucking terrifying. You’re terrifying.

I don’t think this was the first time you’d done this crap with someone. I think lying and feeling out how much you can get away with, with each ‘friend’ you make, is habitual for you. Do you think people won’t be interested in knowing you if you’re just honest about your life? I don’t think you understand what friendship is.

I hate that I felt obligated to still pretend I believed you about everything when I didn’t anymore, and that I was okay with it all when I wasn’t. It’s a special kind of torment to try and continue being compassionate when you realise a ‘friend’ you cared about has actually been slowly drip-feeding lies to you and probably getting off on it.
