Besties watch me learn how to reality shift just so I can strangle Denethor. I am THIS CLOSE 🤏 THIS FUCKING CLOSE and I just think that bashing his head against the wall of the citadel a few times is the best way to quite literally hammer the point into his ridiculously thick and empty skull
FARAMIR IS BRILLIANT! HE IS WONDERFUL AND YOU HIT THE JACKPOT WITH SUCH A SON BUT YOU CHOSE TO BE AN ABUSIVE FUCKBAG! YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW UNBELIEVABLY LUCKY YOU ARE TO HAVE HIM
Anyways this is my official notification to Denethor son of Ecthelion, Steward of Gondor: I will find a way. I will. And once you burn (again) I will be filing adoption papers because clearly you cannot be trusted to parent a goldfish let alone an amazing and kindhearted man

Just some lil' Observations During My 17 Billionth Rewatch of Fellowship of the Ring
Okay so in the prologue, for some reason I never paid attention to how many active verbs are used to describe what the ring does and how it goes about it's lil life. I don't often think about the powers and personality of the ring very much, I'm usually to distracted by my love for frodo ha
"It is no bad thing to celebrate a simple life." Love love love that, somehow never really heard that line before.
Uh oh. I'm becoming that person that unconsciously quotes all the lines as they're spoken.
I wonder if bilbo would've been a different old man if he hadn't had the ring in his pocket for decades
Tbh I am very impressed that bilbo just dropped to ring and walked out. Obviously it took some help by gandalf but still, to be able to leave it behind after all that time. Such a comforting thought to my poor little heart that hates to think about how long the Martin Freeman bilbo was slowly poisoned by the ring
Yall. When I was a kid the black riders gave me nightmares, and now they are like 0% scary
I've related to different characters over the years, but u know what I'm realizing that maybe I'm sam. bc I too would walk to the ends of the earth for frodo baggins.
Dear lorddd. That seduction of the ring theme - the one that plays at the v beginning of their journey as they're walking through the tall clovers and weeds under the trees - gives me chills every time. The use of voices in howard shore's score is MAGNIFIQUE
"If I take one more step it'll be the farthest away from home I've ever been". Have any of yall seen the 9 hour version of the movie that plays that clip every time sam takes a step?😂😂
Am I upset that they replaced merry and pippin's dedication to frodo and the journey in the books with comedic relief stealing-the-crops stuff? Overall not much. I think they get the characterization they deserve over the course of the movies. Ppl can just chill and let the movie be a movie. Tbh we need some comedic relief from this very stressful epic
Am I upset they cut tom bombadil? Also overall no. Again, for the sake of the movie, they gave us some stress relief with merry and pip and streamlined the journey to bree enough to where an extra stop for some reprieve wasn't needed. Dont get me wrong, it's a lovely part of the book, but I agree with the directorial choices to keep the movie's energy up
THE REFLECTION IN ARAGORN'S EYES WHEN HE LIGHTS THE PIPE. CINEMATIC MAGIC. also I'm just generally attracted to him anyway.
Me anytime viggo says or does anything:
Tumblr media
Arwen's sword under aragorns chin is THE best introduction to our first legit female character I could ask for
OH MY GODDDDDDD. I think it's probably Elijah's hobbit-height double that viggo is carrying to the horse, and dear God that mask on him is so freaky looking 😂😭😂 Never ever seen that before
One thing I am just ever so slightly salty about is that they had the council of elrond be summoned to determine the fate of the ring rather than everyone coming on their own accord with their specific knowledge to lead to the collective realization that they are exactly the right group of ppl to form the fellowship
For the rest of my life, I am doomed to only think of the LOTR How It Should Have Ended during the council of elrond scene. 12 year old me really screwed herself by watching the same 5 YouTube videos on endless repeat
The solo French horn that plays the gondor theme while boromir is speaking is so subtle but increeeeeeeedibly powerful. It's just different enough from the other themes introduced so far that for that moment it takes me so much deeper into the world of middle earth ??
Just noticed the wink between gandalf and elrond when aragorn offers to help frodo. Their last conversation ended with "he turned away from that life long ago. He has chosen exile" and now aragorn is giving up his preferred solo life for the sake of frodo and for the world. Look how the turntables, elrond
Boromir's lil "sorry!" when he accidentally cuts Merry's hand 😭
"Boromir! Give the ring to frodo!" "As you wish." Boromir loves aragorn
The humans carrying two hobbits at a time to keep them safe from the snow😭😭😭
Literally Gandalf can you please just tell frodo that there is a balrog down in moria!!! This is not informed consent!!!!
Lake monster outside moria = aquatic sarlacc
We as a Society™️ need to spend more time listening to gandalf's words to frodo while chilling in moria
The chanting during the chase in khazad dum gives me similar vibes as the "track down this murderer" voices at the end of phantom of the opera. ..uh oh so I'm getting too tired to elaborate on my thoughts
I've watched Gandalfs 'death' too many times that it's not the fall itself that makes me cry anymore, but it's frodo's reaction outside that gets me now. Also the soprano voice singing (renee fleming?)
Oh my god I just heard for the first time boromir's line in lorien "i did not see it", referring to Galadriel telling him there's still hope for his people. That's the same thing he says right before he dies and I finally understand what he meant. He tried to take the ring from frodo bc the ring overwhelmed him completely with a sense of despair, convincing him that using the ring was their only option to survive. And oh my gosh it's how galadriel knew that boromir was going to try and take it. She knew he had lost hope. Wow it took me waaay too long to catch that. It's the specificity of it all that I didn't catch, not necessarily the fact that boromir thought the ring was the only way
Boromir's death hit different this time yall. With a better understanding of what was going on in his head, just ..... I may or may not have cried a lot more than usual
Soooo strategic of howard shore to have let a long time pass without hearing the Shire theme before it plays when frodo and sam hug on the boat. Every. single. damn. time. that moment gets me. The power of MUSIC people.
Aaaaaaaaaand credits roll

ranking my favorite characters about random shit part 2
ranking my favorite characters (clarke griffin, dean winchester, fox mulder, rose tyler, newt, kaz brekker, samwise gamgee, charles xavier, bill denbrough, lord asriel, steve rogers, scott mccall, anna milton and barry berkman) about random shit. this is entirely self-indulgent
PART 2 : how many allies do they have/how powerful are their allies. basically how screwed they’d be if they had to rely on their allies to survive
1- DEAN WINCHESTER
yeah believe it or not im putting him before charles or steve. listen, listen; dean just. does this thing. in which he’ll get pretty much anyone on his side after like two conversations. ESPECIALLY incredibly powerful supernatural creatures. i mean he’s got sam, aka the second best hunter on earth, and jack, literally GOD, on his side; then obviously the dean winchester simp squad, castiel, a seraph and commander of garrisons who can get heaven to fight for him; benny, a vampire; crowley, a powerful crossroad demon and the king of hell; amara, literally THE DARKNESS HERSELF, god’s SISTER; and then there’s just SO many others who will fight for him for diverse reasons, rowena, eileen, claire, jody, donna, kaia, mary, anna, gabriel, DEATH HIMSELF was his bitch before billie, then ketch charlie kevin, he’s just got so many allies and so many are some of the most powerful creatures in the universe. i mean, jack, amara and gabriel alone are three of the most powerful beings who have ever existed, as well as billie and the other archangels but all of them are dead, and chuck but he’s also dead and even he would be on dean’s side since dean is his favorite and if it’s an actual life-threatening situation chuck would want the show to keep going. so yeah dean winchester’s got the biggest defense squad imaginable and honestly? good for him, he deserves it
2- CHARLES XAVIER
do i even have to say it? outside of his ability to. you know. literally control minds, he’s also a leader who inspires loyalty and trust, and he’s got all the x-men fighting for him, including jean and logan - and even if we’re being honest some of the brotherhood, i mean especially in the first class timeline, erik and raven would absolutely be on his side. he’s got some of the most powerful mutants of all time ready to fight for his life
3- STEVE ROGERS
I mean he’s the leader of the avengers, man. have you seen the avengers assemble scene? they were fighting against thanos there but don’t try to tell me all of them wouldn’t fight for him. he’s got the falcon, black widow and the winter soldier on his side as well as the SCARLET WITCH, CAPTAIN MARVEL, THOR, do i need to keep going. he’s got a huge reputation and everyone knows and trusts him. and as we can also see in all his movies he inspires loyalty and devotion easily so even with people he doesn’t know he can get himself a loyal army in one well-delivered speech à la captain america
4- KAZ BREKKER
while most of the people on this list (steve, scott, charles, dean, bill, newt, anna) are born leaders who inspire trust and loyalty, kaz is just. really good at blackmail and insanely smart and cruel. and he’s got an insanely scary reputation too. he’s got the crows on his side no matter what, so an amazing spy, the best sharpshooter in ketterdam, a grisha who survived parem, an ex-drüskelle, and a demolition expert; as well as now the entirety of the dregs and inej’s crew, probably. plus, he most likely has leverage on the entirety of ketterdam and more. if he got in real trouble he could probably dig out the years and years of blackmail he got stacked away and get himself allyships with anyone he wants. plus his allies are ruthless, diverse and all strategically selected
5- SCOTT MCCALL
he’s got his entire pack ready to jump to help him anytime. and really when you think about it his pack is so big and diverse, there’s all kinds of creatures/skills ready to help him, plus he’s a true alpha, any werewolf would jump to his aid. I mean let’s look at his pack, stiles, allison, lydia, derek, malia, isaac, kira, hayden, mason, corey, and then of course stilinski, deaton, melissa, chris and peter, i mean even theo... he’s got a huge pack who is extremely loyal to him and they’re all kinds of creatures too, he’s fine
6- ROSE TYLER
everyone loves rose SO much. like obviously the doctor will give his life for her without hesitation but we also got jack, mickey, jackie, and even a bunch of people she met for like a couple episodes like donna or sarah jane immediately loved her. so i think she’s ultimately got some pretty solid allies especially with her father’s wealth and torchwood’s support in the alternate reality
7- CLARKE GRIFFIN
im putting her pretty down because on one hand he’s got very powerful/devoted allies on her side, like bellamy, lexa, roan, nyilah, finn, wells, etc (the key of getting your allies to be entirely devoted and loyal to you is to make at least half of them fall in love with you OR to top them so good they’ll literally put their lives down for you because of how good it was and clarke got that down to an art) BUT they’re also like. all dead. like almost all the people i just listed are dead so. yeah she’s kinda on her own in the end but if we look at early seasons clarke before literally all of them got murdered she had skaikru, azgeda and trikru pretty much in her pocket, so three of the biggest/most technically advanced armies on EARTH ready to fight for her.
8- LORD ASRIEL
now he doesn’t have actual allies per say but he can manage to get pretty much anyone on his side through charisma, threats and promises, so he ends up steadily getting massive support from witches, angels and many others in the books. he can pretty easily get himself a bunch of followers at his side ready to die for his cause.
9-SAMWISE GAMGEE
now listen he does have a pretty solid bunch of allies, aka the entire fellowship, who they, themselves, have a bunch of allies, who have a bunch of allies. i mean homeboi’s got ARAGORN and LEGOLAS and GANDALF on his side all ready to jump to save the tiny hobbits anytime so he’ll be fine.
10- BILL DENBROUGH
he’s immediately got the losers on his side, which is a win because they’re stubborn and annoying enough that they defeated an alien demonic clown. plus they’re quite literally assembled by a divinity to destroy a demon, so they’re the perfect team to kick ass and they’ll risk their lives for each other. plus he’s got a fanbase! people read his books and watch his movies. meaning he’s probably got a pretty big part of stan twt ready to help?? idk man i just think he’ll be fine when it comes to allies
11- NEWT
he’s got the entire glade ready to jump to his aid pretty much at any time, i mean let’s be honest if there’s one person all the gladers would agree on defending it would be.. ok it would be chuck bc he’s a CHILD but otherwise it’d be newt. plus he’s alby’s second in command and even gally likes him and respects him more than he likes and respects most people, which isnt much but hey kudos for the effort. anywho yeah the entire glade would defend him i think
12- ANNA MILTON
she would’ve once had the entirety of heaven at her commands ready to smite anyone who comes close to her but now that she fell and rebelled they all want her dead so. i mean i wish i could say cas would help her but after he betrayed her im not so sure? and the winchesters well idk either, maybe, maybe not, depends whether or not the entire trying-to-kill-sam ordeal happened. gabriel might help her? idk where to put her because i don’t KNOW if cas, dean, gabriel or the angels would help her but if any of them did then even one of these is a pretty solid backup so. idk man
13- FOX MULDER
im only on season 4 but as far as i can see he’s got only scully. which is pretty solid backup, she can kick ass, but still. i guess it’s one of the downsides of everyone thinking you’re batshit insane and having the entire government out to get you because they all LOATHE YOUR GUTS SO MUCH
14- BARRY BERKMAN
I mean dude. he pretty much kills all his friends. like he could ask for chris’s help but umm well he killed him, if he’s in a bad situation oh great he’s got a friend at the police except NO he murdered her. what’s that? fuches? no barry’s literally trying to murder him as of now. sally wouldn’t help him at all. cousineau just found out barry murdered his gf. at MOST he can hope that noho hank will help but i mean he’s not much help tbh i love the guy but he’s kinda useless<3

Why do think Jon can't or won't have any romances if he died and is resurrected? Like uh... erh you think he physically won't be able to uh get it up again so he'll never have a sexual relationship again or do u mean that you think he won't be able to emotionally form romantic attachments or...? I deff think Jon is going to be darker after and all that but i think him inhabiting Ghost might result in him being slighty different than Beric and Stoneheart. Idk what is ur speculation on it? Thanks!
I agree that if Jon is dead, his experience will be slightly different from Beric and Stoneheart since his consciousness has probably already transferred into ghost. But even there, the mind of the human starts to fade. That’s the beauty of GRRM’s work. There are always consequences, even with magic involved. Or especially when magic is involved. We don’t know how long he will remain in Ghost or what shape his body will be in when he returns to it. So while Jon might not lose as much of his personality as his predecessors, he will still be a fire wight. Though, tbh, with Jon being the third fire wight, it doesn’t seem like GRRM’s style to have him be in better shape than the other two. If anything, just as Stoneheart is worse than Beric, it seems like Jon would be even worse. Here are GRRM’s words on this element of his series:
GRRM: “Part of it was also, it’s the dialogue that I was talking about. And here I’ve got to get back to Tolkien again. And I’m going to seem like I’m criticizing him, which I guess I am. It’s always bothered me that Gandalf comes back from the dead. The Red Wedding for me in Lord of the Rings is the mines of Moria, and when Gandalf falls — it’s a devastating moment! I didn’t see it coming at 13 years old, it just totally took me by surprise. Gandalf can’t die! He’s the guy that knows all of the things that are happening! He’s one of the main heroes here! Oh god, what are they going to do without Gandalf? Now it’s just the hobbits?! And Boromir, and Aragorn? Well, maybe Aragorn will do, but it’s just a huge moment. A huge emotional investment.
And then in the next book, he shows up again, and it was six months between the American publications of those books, which seemed like a million years to me. So all that time I thought Gandalf was dead, and now he’s back and now he’s Gandalf the White. And, ehh, he’s more or less the same as always, except he’s more powerful. It always felt a little bit like a cheat to me. And as I got older and considered it more, it also seemed to me that death doesn’t make you more powerful. That’s, in some ways, me talking to Tolkien in the dialogue, saying, “Yeah, if someone comes back from being dead, especially if they suffer a violent, traumatic death, they’re not going to come back as nice as ever.” That’s what I was trying to do, and am still trying to do, with the Lady Stoneheart character.”
Interviewer: “And Jon Snow, too, is drained by the experience of coming back from the dead on the show.”
GRRM: “Right. And poor Beric Dondarrion, who was set up as the foreshadowing of all this, every time he’s a little less Beric. His memories are fading, he’s got all these scars, he’s becoming more and more physically hideous, because he’s not a living human being anymore. His heart isn’t beating, his blood isn’t flowing in his veins, he’s a wight, but a wight animated by fire instead of by ice, now we’re getting back to the whole fire and ice thing.” -- Time
So based on GRRM’s words, we can rule out Jon having an experience anything close to show!Jon where his death was only a benefit. He essentially used it as a “Get out of the Night’s Watch Free” card, even though that line of reasoning makes no sense. Him dying and being reanimated as a zombie would not result in him being physically and mentally the same, nor would it lead to everyone being fine with what he is. He would either be killed as a deserter or burned as a wight.
So as for Jon not having a chance for romance in my opinion, I would rule it out both emotionally and physically.
As an animated corpse who has lost a degree of consciousness, I have my doubts about him being able to form new meaningful relationships. Beric and Catelyn have become hyper focused on the last goals they had before dying. Since Beric’s goal didn’t include his fiance, he barely remembers that he has a fiance, let alone anything about her. Nor does he remember where his home is. All he is about is carrying out his last orders which were to enforce justice on the Mountain and stop the Lannister’s terrorist acts on the common people of the Riverlands. So that’s it for him. Catelyn seems to be in a similar situation where her last act was to kill a Frey while also thinking of her lost children. So she is looking for Arya while murdering every Frey she can find and extending that vengeance to Jaime since Roose delivered his regards as he stabbed Robb. Stoneheart has lost a great deal of who she was to the point that she can’t hear reason, not even with Brienne.
Jon’s situation has to be similar. His dying thoughts were of Arya and planning to meet Ramsay Bolton in battle. It stands to reason that his diminished mind would center on that, unless his time in Ghost allows him to focus on something or someone else.
As far as physically goes, based on Beric and Stoneheart, Jon’s heart wouldn’t be beating so no blood flow would be going through his body, he wouldn’t need food since his digestive system wouldn’t be working, and he wouldn’t even need to sleep. Essentially, he is not alive and has no normal bodily functions. Unless he dies with a permanent terminal erection, a part of physical intimacy is out. He could probably still give oral if he’s able to keep hydrated for that purpose. Sorry, TMI. In short, in my opinion, if Jon is dead emotional and physical romance are out. But JMO.
That’s one of the reasons I’m still open to the possibility that Jon isn’t dead. Before the show killed and resurrected the show version as Gandolf the White 2.0, his status was up for debate. There were many who steadfastly believed he was alive. GRRM even said in an interview that whether Jon was dead or alive was up for debate until the next installment. Since he essentially brushed off the interviewer’s attempt in the quote above to redirect the discussion to undead!Jon and went on to discuss Beric, that suggests that canon Jon’s status is still undetermined. And there are a lot more possibilities for him if he’s alive.

Would you recommend Wheel of Time for people who enjoyed ASOIAF? I've been looking for more fantasy and it keeps popping up, but I can't decide whether or not to read it without the opinion of someone who has
Whenever someone asks me this, I have to approach the question really cautiously because, like … It depends on what you like about ASOIAF. Some people read ASOIAF but they don’t actually like the fantasy genre, which is scandalous to me but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
If you’re one of the people who doesn’t like the fantasy elements of ASOIAF, I would not recommend WOT to you, because WOT is traditional high fantasy, with politics thrown in. While ASOIAF is high fantasy disguising itself as low fantasy, WOT is purely high fantasy.
I really like Robert Jordan’s writing. I’ve read all of his published works. (TBH I want to reread the Fallon series of his.) I’ve read the Wheel of Time series six times over the past 20 years. (For comparison, I’ve only read ASOIAF one and a half times.) Wheel of Time is not for everybody tho. It’s a fantasy series that was conceived in the 1980s, and it’s not without its problems, but I personally think the good outweighs the bad.
Do you like Lord of the Rings? I personally think everyone should read LOTR but not everyone agrees with me. If you like LOTR, you might like WOT. Wheel of Time draws heavily on LOTR imagery, more so than ASOIAF. But WOT also draws on different philosophies like reincarnation and ideas like balance and harmony. For example, there are two Gandalf figures in WOT, a man and a woman. The different philosophies are mixed with the high fantasy Christian messianic figure (or two, or three, or more - I would actually argue that while Wheel of Time has one male messianic figure, it has several female messianic figures who parallel him, in things like the stigmata marks, the reluctance to begin the Hero’s Journey, etc - but that’s beyond the scope of this post).
Because one of the driving forces of the series is balance, a lot of women get a lot of space devoted to them. In ASOIAF, a lot of what the female characters are grappling with in their stories is misogyny, and that makes me tired after awhile. In Wheel of Time, the female characters don’t have to deal with misogyny all the time, which is kind of nice. Some things in WOT aren’t as thought-provoking as ASOIAF, and you don’t have to grapple with as much stuff in Wheel of Time, not like with GRRM, but sometimes that’s a relief tbh?
Also I really like worldbuilding. And I do not think I will ever again find a series like Wheel of Time that gives me this much worldbuilding.
Also I think of ASOIAF and Wheel of Time as sister series, because they share the same themes. Themes are important to me when I am enjoying a piece of media, but not everyone feels that way.
So idk, it depends. You might like it, you might not. If you’d like to read more about the series before diving in, you might explore my #wheel of time tag and check out my #wot meta tag.
Here is a post where I compare/contrast ASOIAF and Wheel of Time.
Here is a post where I talk about some of the problems Wheel of Time has as a series

Galadriel/Melian! >_o
When I started shipping them: Like… the @aeromachia joke art probably
My thoughts: It’s a good ship! I mean, it’s one of my favorite background relationships in the Silm, it’s such an interesting characterizing detail for both of them… the fact that in Middle-earth Galadriel, former revolutionary agitator and tomboy prodigy, seeks out the tutelage of ~Melian the Queen; the fact that Melian nevertheless seems to treat it as a meeting of equals, at least superficially; the absurd dissonant mix of Melian’s human-seeming nostalgia for Valinor (and Galadriel catching her up on all the gossip) vs the fact that the reason Melian NEEDS Galadriel to catch her up is that her angelic omniscience is glitching, weird. As far as its shippy potential goes, it’s almost impossible for me to imagine Galadriel not being swept up in the romantic aspects of having even part of a god’s attention, especially after the Darkening, the helcaraxe, etc.; it’s this salutary mix of safely familiar and probably-safely unknown, and the closest she can get to the kind of relationship the Noldor had to the valar in Aman while still being manifestly different, and lonelier, and more precarious. Plus if she gets spooked by her own inappropriate fee-fees she can always redirect onto Celeborn.
As for Melian’s side, I mean, idr buy romantic but I can imagine her having a passionate concern for Galadriel only MOSTLY as a vector of doom/danger to Doriath… the analogy I want to make here is to Irisviel from Fate/Zero, who is simultaneously like, a created puppet with the sole purpose of protecting a certain object until a certain critical time, but who also has a measure of free will, tastes and preferences, etc., kind of in service of that assigned purpose; I imagine if Melian went through a period of focusing closely on Galadriel, it was on the highest level for Doriath’s/Thingol’s sake, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t manifest as a personal interest.
What makes me happy about them: If we’re going by the elaborate headcanon detailed above, eh, I love unequal levels of romantic involvement (without it necessarily being a ONE-SIDED romantic involvement)
What makes me sad about them: Galadriel’s such a fucking coward… that’s not true, I love her cowardice-in-Doriath. um. I do find her uselessness during the Lay/after, during the fall of Doriath, sad to think about, assuming she was… still there… at the time… “bunked off to blue mountains” is sad but DIFFERENTLY
Things done in fanfic that annoys me: I am not personally that into Melian the sexy enchantress inducting galadriel into her sexy arts, intentionally and seductively (accidentally and to mutual awkwardness is another matter.) although ‘annoyed’ really is too strong, it’s just not my thing
Things I look for in fanfic: A Melian characterization that falls closer to mine I guess, or generally galadriel/melian fic that’s also interested in Melian’s weird circumstances outside her role as mentor. don’t get me wrong, I love blinkered and confused young Galadriel, but even through the filter of her pov it would be nice for some of the domestic complexities of Doriath’s royal family to trickle through. Also tbh I could do with some modulation of “young Galadriel”—I feel like I typically agree with people on the basics of Galadriel in Aman and Galadriel post-First Age, but Galadriel in Doriath sometimes gets lumped in with her pre-Darkening self in a way that ignores… newfound Arafinwean trauma and the fact that they’ve all been “seasoned” to a certain extent by the trudge across the ice… my favoritest favoritest part of the silmarillion. obviously. not really. but sometimes
My wishlist: Stupid transhumanist AUs
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: lmao, I love both canon het pairings! very much. Also I think it’s cute how the Galadriel and Gandalf convo about the elessar in unfinished tales is like a neat inversion of Galadriel and Melian chatting about Aman. an acceptable galadriel/gandalf one night stand pretext
My happily ever after for them: Galadriel after setting up shop in the woods just outside Mandos finds out that Thingol and Melian live in a cave system they dug down next to where the hills buried the Numenoreans and she’s like “ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh outclassed again”

I Choose You (Aragorn)
Pairing: Aragorn (LOTR) x OC
Prompt: None-- just a request! :)
Warnings: All. The. Fluff.
Requests are open! Send me some! I’d love more LOTR of course! But I’m also sort of dying for an Eric Coulter from Divergent request tbh! lmao xD Thanks for reading everyone! Hope you enjoy!
I pulled an arrow out of the quiver leaning up against the tree. On the other side of the stream trickling past was a wide, moss-covered tree. My target. Although I honestly could have cared less if I hit anything at all. Blades had always been my strength. There was nothing that could match the feeling of a sword in my hands, the arc of a blade and the satisfying sound it made as it cut through the air. There was no stress reliever quite like it.
There were no enemies to fight here, though. Fortunately for us, of course. But I also wasn’t going to bother one of the others with a little combat training. It was not the time or place, I knew that. The mood was too somber, Gandalf’s death still too near.
The Hobbits had been silent ever since we’d entered Lothlorien and been given sanctuary by Galadriel. The thought of her cold eyes still made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. The sound of her voice echoed in my head, warning me of a danger I’d already known.
You love him.
The most powerful, dangerous magic there is. Especially in times such as these.
You love him, and it will be your undoing.
I’d already known that. Love was always everyone’s undoing, wasn’t it? I’d watched it destroy my mother and father when I’d been only a child, I’d watched it wreck my brother after his wife was taken from him during the cold winter months. Love had dulled my senses, distracted me. Made me more aware of another than I was of myself, or my surroundings. It was a sickness I couldn’t cure. I didn’t know how. Worst of all, I wasn’t sure I wanted to. Not when it made me feel so…alive.
I clumsily nocked another arrow, pulling the bowstring tight before letting it go. The arrow wobbled through the air, making it across the creek only to nosedive right into the muddy bank. I cursed under my breath, lowering the bow. This was embarrassing. Thank god no one was around to—
“Your elbow’s too high, and you’re not pulling the string back far enough.”
My heart stuttered in my chest. Even just the sound of his voice had that effect on me, soft and gentle. As if he were carefully choosing each and every word before it left his lips. Lips…there was a topic I didn’t need to think about. I spent enough time lying under the stars, imagining what it’d be like to be that close to him.
“Am I doing anything right?” I asked, finally turning to look at him.
He smiled at me, blue eyes crinkling at the corners in that way I adored. Like me, he was dressed in clean clothes and looked as if he’d had a bath. Although nothing could scrub away that ruggedness that just seemed to be a natural part of his appearance at this point. I secretly loved the rough stubble that covered his jaw and chin, the way he always was impatiently pushing that dark hair out of his eyes.
His gaze flickered over me, making me feel unnaturally warm despite the coolness of the forest. “You look lovely.”
I ducked my head as my cheeks flushed and turned away from him to grab another arrow. The handmaidens Galadriel had sent insisted on dressing me in the clothing of their people— which meant a gown for once, instead of my traveling clothes. It was silk, the color of lilac. Floor length with tight bodice and thin straps instead of sleeves.
“I feel ridiculous. I doubt I could swing a sword in this without tearing a seem.”
“Well, I don’t think it was made with sword swinging in mind,” Aragorn said, traces of laughter in his words. “You look far from ridiculous.”
His voice had lowered, making my stomach fumble. Perhaps I was just imagining it, but I could’ve sworn there was something more behind his words. Something that sounded very much like the way I felt whenever we held eyes across a room for too long.
“Is there a reason you’re practicing your archery skills instead of resting? You know we have a long day of traveling tomorrow. You’re safe here. You should rest.”
I sighed before rolling my shoulder back, preparing to try and shoot again. “I can’t. My mind is too busy. Too preoccupied.”
“With what? Gandalf?”
“Amongst other things,” I admitted. Like you, and your eyes, your smile, your everything. “So I figured I might as well do something productive.” I released the bowstring and the arrow went no farther than the previous one. I let out a groan of defeat. “Although apparently I’m wasting my time.”
“You could always ask Legolas to teach you. There’s no better bowman than him,” Aragorn reminded me, and I heard his footsteps until he was at my side, snatching up one of the arrows and examining it with mild interest. His eyes lifted and their vivd blueness held me there.
“Legolas knows a hopeless case when he sees one. Besides, I don’t want to give him something else to poke fun at me for. Who knew an elf could find himself so humorous?” I said, rolling my eyes.
“If I recall correctly, you seem to enjoy relentlessly teasing him right back,” Aragorn said pointedly and I gave him a look that made him laugh. He held out the arrow to me. “Here, I might not be as skilled as our elvish friend but I know a thing or two about shooting a bow.”
I nocked the arrow the way I’d seen Legolas do countless times, my fingers not quite as steady and sure as his were. Instead, it felt clumsy in my hands.
“You’re holding the grip too firmly. Squeeze it like you're shaking a hand— not too hard, not too light,” Aragorn instructed.
I loosened my fingers and glanced down to check my stance. “Shoulder-width apart,” I murmured to myself.
Aragorn hummed his agreement. “Right, but you’re still standing with your feet too close together. Here.”
Before I had a chance to even look over at him, prepared to see him showing me the correct stance, I felt him behind me. His chest was pressed close to my back and I could feel the warm, solidness of him against me. I nearly dropped the bow right then and there, but Aragorn’s hands were on mine. Steadying me.
“A little bit more,” he said softly, and I felt one of his boots nudge my foot and I widened my stance. “Perfect. Now, angle your body.”
His breath tickled my neck and my stomach dropped as his hands found my hips. I felt like I could hardly breathe as he kept them there for a moment longer, palms heavy against my waist. I fought the urge to lean back into him and rest against his chest. “Now what?” I heard myself ask.
“Now, you draw back the string.” His hand still covering mine, I pulled back the bowstring and his grip tightened. “That’s far enough. This is your anchor point, so every time you draw back, this is how far you need to go.”
“Mhm,” I said, nodding. My head was spinning though, pleasant shivers coursing down my spine every single time he spoke. “And lift my elbow.”
“Right,” he agreed. His hand slid up my wrist, ghosting across my forearm before he was gently raising my elbow just a little. “You want to use your back muscles, not your arm muscles when you draw back. Imagine pushing your shoulder blades together.” My breath left me in a little gasp as his hand spread across my stomach. “Stand a little straighter.”
“How’s this?” I asked, staring down the spine of the arrow and trying to ignore the quiver in my voice. His hand covered my own again, the stubble of his jaw brushing against my cheek. If I turned my head, he’d be less than a breath away. Close enough for me to press my lips to his and find out if he tasted the way I always imagined. A part of me felt utterly ridiculous, but my body was reacting without my permission, his closeness bringing down the barriers I carefully kept around myself to keep myself safe. To keep him safe, whether he knew it or not.
Yet all I could think about it was how good he felt. His hands on mine, steadying my aim. His words, soft and encouraging, whispered against my skin. How many times had we stayed awake at night, while the other slept, sharing stories of our childhoods, of everything we’d been through? Of becoming more than what our pasts had made us?
“Now you aim. Don’t overthink it. The harder you try, the more elusive your target becomes. Just take a deep breath, exhale, and let go.”
I suddenly felt his lips brush against my cheek and I let out a sigh, my arms slackening. “Aragorn,”
“I’ve always wondered what would happen if I let myself get this close to you,” he said, catching me offguard. “Now I know…I don’t want to let you go.”
At that, my hand slipped from the arrow and it shot from the bow but I didn’t even care where it was going. The bow dropped to the ground as I turned and faced the ranger, his hands finding their way back to my waist. I cupped his face in my hands, eyes searching his face and words faltering on my tongue as I saw the longing in his expression.
“This is dangerous,” I told him, raising up onto my tippy toes and hands sliding to his shoulders as I kissed his chin. “We should stop.”
“We should,” he answered, the words barely a whisper. “So tell me to stop..tell me we can’t.”
“I don’t want to,” I confessed, and his gaze grew warm and molten. Making my stomach clench.
His hand lifted to cup the back of my neck and my eyes fluttered shut as I felt the first brush of his mouth against mine. It was soft and sweet, making my knees feel like I’d had one too many pints of ale. His other arm circled my waist, securing my against him as my fingers gripped the front of his shirt tightly and tried to pull him closer against me. In that kiss, I felt everything I didn’t want to. Stirrings of feelings I’d tried so hard to fight off and keep at bay. But nothing could have pried me away from him in that moment. Weakness, maybe. Yet I felt safe there. I felt sure. For once, the world didn’t like such a dark place.
I hadn’t realized we were moving until my back met the rough bark of the nearest tree, Aragorn pinning me against it with his body. He tasted sweet, like wine, and I could smell the sharp scent of soap on his skin. I let myself become lost in him, forgetting where we were, or what the next day would bring. The only thing I thought about was the feeling of my fingers tangled in his hair, or the subtle way his hips pressed against mine, coaxing a soft whimper from my lips.
“Such sweet sounds,” he murmured against my skin as his lips slid across my jaw. “Such sweet lips.” He nipped gently at my lower lip and I arched against him. “I don’t think I’ll ever get my fill.”
I wanted him to keep going, to keep touching me, kissing me, and saying those things to me. But I remembered another voice.
“Galadriel spoke to me. She told me you’d be my undoing,” I confessed, my chest heaving as I forced myself back enough to meet his eyes. I cupped his face in one hand and he nuzzled into my touch before kissing the inside of my palm.
His gaze, still dark and smoldering, grew more serious and his fingers laced through mine. “The lady of light says many things. I make my own choices, though. I choose my own fate. Do you?”
His gaze held me, making me unable to look away even if I’d wanted to. The fear I’d felt earlier from Galadriel’s warning paled in comparison to the promise in Aragorn’s voice. That uneasiness kept battering at me, trying to break through the wall of safety and warmth I felt in his arms.
“I want to.” I finally said, pausing a beat before continuing. “I want to choose you.”
“But you’re afraid.” It wasn’t a question, but an affirmation. I dropped my eyes now, fingers toying with the collar of his shirt. I could feel the rapid beating of his heart beneath the fabric and slid my palm over his chest. I let the steady rhythm anchor me and nodded.
“I am too.”
I lifted my head, eyebrows furrowed in surprise. “You are?”
“Of course I am. Wouldn’t I be foolish not to be?” he asked, tucking a stray strand of hair behind my ear. “I can’t tell you what happens next…where this road leads, if it ever ends. But I can tell you that the way I feel about you is sure and steady. I am not a man who throws caution to the wind, but I’ll take my chances if it means I get you.”
I felt my chest swell, for a moment finding myself totally and completely speechless. I’d faced goblins, orcs, trolls…all of that was nothing to the fear I felt at loving someone and having them love me in return. The way he was looking at me, though…it promised good things. It promised safety and happiness when our days would allow it, night without loneliness and words of comfort when the thought of another day felt like it might ruin me.
And I knew I would’ve been a fool to let fear fence me in for the rest of my life.
“Will you take that chance?” he prompted me, his tone patient and understanding and I knew he would’ve wait a week, a month, a year for my answer.
I was tired of waiting though. “I will.”
The smile that spread across his face was all the confirmation I need that this was right. The two of us, together.
He leaned in and kissed me again, this time without hesitation. Flames flickered to life low in my stomach, spreading heat through my entire body. I pushed my hands up the front of his shirt and he shuddered at my touch, making me smile against his mouth. The hard muscles of his stomach rippled under his skin, my fingers trailing a path up to his chest and memorizing every raised scar that marked him.
“You’re doing a lousy job at teaching me to shoot a bow,” I teased him and a laugh rumbled low in his chest.
“Let’s be glad you’re such a lousy shot, or might never have gotten the courage to stand that close to you,” he said back, nudging my nose gently with his. “Besides, there’s plenty of time for that later. For right now, I can think of a dozen other things I’d rather show you.” His voice was low and husky and made my stomach dip.
The bow and quiver of arrows lay forgotten on the forest floor and all I could do was remember how to breathe as Aragon made me forget everything else too at least for a little while.

If Faramir went to Rivendell, how would the whole ttt/rohan plot be different?
A good question that I have spent an unreasonable time thinking about! My first LOTR fic was going to be an attempt to answer this, but then I got so wrapped up in not having the answers that I sidelined it and wrote WC instead. So I think instead of giving you one definitive answer I’ll give you a couple scenarios I think are plausible? If that’s not too much of a cop out lmao? Apologies in advance for the inevitable spelling errors, I did this on my phone and my dyslexia is off the charts today.
I think it’s basically unavoidable that he goes via Rohan first, geographically he’s sort of left without an option there. When he’s there, we get into this issue of whether and how he and Éowyn interact. Worth noting, I think, that the Unfinished Tales has Éomer living in Aldburg by the War, but Éomer does seem to imply he’s around for Boromir passing through. Is this because he knows and already is a fan of Boromir? Maybe! Or maybe Éomer goes to Aldburg after.
But I digress. We have to ask the question of whether Faramir falls in love with Éowyn because he was always going to fall in love with Éowyn, or if it’s because the things he’s gone through immediately preceding it primed him for it. I — perhaps quite cheaply — come down on the side of Faramir always having it bad for her on first sight. And contextually I think that comes from his, rather sweet, enunciation of the way his regard/love changes for her. He says that at first he pities her, and then he gets to know her and he doesn’t pity her anymore, he respects and admires her. That’s an interesting dynamic to bring into play in basically every AU, because you get this double barrel characterisation of his attitude to her changing, and his own character maturing/sharp edges softening.
I think he off the bat he sees that she’s beautiful, and immediately is drawn to her for that. Shallow? Maybe! But, to badly paraphrase my ol fav Victor Hugo quote — love always begins with a glance.
I imagine he stays for a short while, maybe a week, two at most. At this point I think that Éowyn’s basically viewing him as an official guest that she has to entertain, and I think Faramir is, in his own, slightly stilted, slightly wanky way, putting the moves on her. This can go, imo, one of two ways. She can either be receptive to it (which is a nice thought!) or she can be aware of it but mostly ignore it because, really, she’s got lots of shit on her plate.
Either way, he leaves Edoras at some point. The big question is where does his go from there?
One thing I toy around with is that, given his pre-existing relationship to Gandalf, maybe he’s willing to trust the Istari a bit more and goes straight for Isengard? Which, and I think I did the math on this once a few months ago, would have him arriving at Isengard around the time Gandalf’s getting his shit kicked in by Saruman lol. I think this could be a really compelling plot point, but I’ll be very honest with you, I 100% don’t have the imagination or writing skills to figure out how it proceeds from there, so I’m not going to try to.
If he goes the normal Boromir route, he still loses his horse at Tharbad and walks (lmao jesus???) to Rivendell. When he gets there, I think he’s immediately going to have everything he knows put to the test in quite jarring ways. First off, he’s going to be infinitely more deferential to Elrond, Aragorn &c when they’re trashing Gondor. He’ll push back a bit, no doubt on that, but he’s going to be starstruck by Aragorn in a way that Boromir just wasn’t.
No real difference I imagine between Rivendell and Lothlórien, except that he’d definitely be laser focused on palling about with Aragorn, and he’d probably spend more of his time being friendly with Frodo than with Merry and Pippin tbh (not in a douchey way, I just think he and Frodo vibe a little better. Though I bet he and Merry had some interesting chats about pipe weed history).
The underlying question here is what sort of relationship does he have to the ring? I don’t buy this idea that he’s not tempted by it, I just think that what the ring offers him is a bit shit. We don’t know what the ring tempts him with, he’s not clear on that in TTT. I can’t really see the ring being like ‘oh I’ll give you a king to follow’ because that is some intensely nerdy shit, but is somehow the one thing I could see Faramir actually being tempted by. Regardless of what it offers him in this AU, he resists it on the basis that he’s got this mythical king he’s been desperate for, and he’s not gonna risk that for anything.
Lothlórien comes next, and oh my god when I tell you this is the part I genuinely have no answer for. I stopped writing my first fic at Lothlórien because I couldn’t cope. Tbh it probably lowkey fries Faramir’s brain, and for so many reasons. The whole godmoding Númenórean stuff he’s got going on probably interests Galadriel a bit, and so that whole conversation is going to be wildly different than it was for Boromir. But what does she say to Faramir? I have no idea. I really don’t. There’s also probably a million and one things also going on psychologically for him at that point, which makes dealing with this bit difficult. Really difficult. So I’m gonna, uh, conveniently smash cut away.
Parth Galen! Again, another two potential splits here. The first, (from here on out I’ll refer to as Plot A) which I find rather endearing, is that he goes off with Frodo and Sam when Frodo makes the decision to split. I don’t know that I believe he’d do it, but it proves for a very delightful interpretation of his character.
Plot B is that when the Orcs show up, Faramir survives not by virtue of his being a ~ better warrior ~ or whatever than Boromir, but by the terrain surrounding Parth Galen being something he’s far more in the habit of dealing with, and by virtue of his having a bow at his disposal. I know there’s room for an interpretation of Faramir as not primarily an archer, but narratively I think that’s less interesting. So he’s an archer. He’s an archer and also his priority is on Aragorn first and foremost, so Merry and Pip still get taken, and Frodo and Sam use the hubbub to GTFO, which is actually slightly more in line with the movie’s chronology, funnily enough. The three hunters become four, and then go on Merry & Pippin’s trails.
In Plot A, they’re hauling ass across the Emyn Muil, bolstered in some ways by Faramir’s experience as a Ranger. The problem is the issue of getting into Mordor and whether or not they pick up Gollum. I think, in a way that frustrates me immensely, they do end up taking Gollum, not because they need a guide, but because Gollum fulfils this deep psychological need for Frodo, and I think he would have argued for keeping Gollum regardless. Faramir is going to be fucked off about this, but will ultimately, I think, be deferential to the ringbearer.
So they go across the Dead Marshes, but they do NOT attempt the Black Gate first because Faramir’s not a fool. Do they go to Henneth Annûn? I say yes, but with the caveat that in all likelihood Boromir is gonna be there, which is gonna complicate stuff tremendously.
Over to Plot B!
The four hunters go to the Mark! They meet Éomer! Hey! Éomer recognises Faramir! (And he’s probably a little fucked off that he lost his horse lol). But whatever, he knows this guy, so he’s probably gonna be like, uhhh, everything you saw before in Edoras is much worse now. Also my cousin's dead and everything is bad. Here’s some horses, sorry for maybe accidentally killing your pals, see ya! And at this point I think Faramir’s probably having a, hmmm, g e n t l e  p s y c h i c  c r i s i s, because if he’s still very 👅 for Éowyn (which he is, sorry, he has to be) then he’s going to want to go there ASAP. Obviously though that’s not gonna happen, so: Merry and Pip chasing, Gandalf finding, Edoras arriving.
Which means Éowyn. If, at this point, she and Faramir already have something of an arrangement going on (nudge nudge) then she’s really not gonna give a shit about Aragorn. You know how in TTT it’s not even clear that she actually sees Legolas and Gimli? 100% that vibe with Aragorn too. Théoden’s gonna get his house in order, they’re going to head to Helm’s Deep, and Éowyn’s gonna get named head of house. (Faramir, if he starts off just thinking she’s beautiful, is going to have quite the paradigm shift here, because he’s going to have to start reckoning with her as not just a beautiful woman, but as a very, very intense person. This is how his love for her starts to mature.)
Sometimes I dream about him being like, ‘hey! I have some first hand experience of ruling a kingdom, how about I stay and…….. lend you a hand……..’ to Éowyn while she’s keeping watch on Edoras. This is wildly unlikely, but a delightful thought nonetheless. In the more likely case, which is that he goes to the Hornburg, she’s going to start feeling some strain about this whole war shebang, and it’s going to lead to some difficult conversations. Chief among them is that Faramir, as second son, actually has basically nothing to give her, which is not exactly a great position to be in when you’re in love with the niece of a king. I’m of the opinion that Éowyn’s not fussed by that stuff (she agrees to marry him when he’s prepping to give up a shit ton of power anyways), so she’s probably like, 'no, fuck you, we’re getting married.' And then he leaves, and it starts to emotionally unsettle her more and more.
If they don’t already have a thing, then it either begins at this point OR he gets overshadowed by Aragorn. In either case, off to Helm’s Deep he goes.
Helm’s Deep happens, I think Faramir ends up extraordinarily impressed by how the Rohirrim handle the Dunlenders afterwards, which also begins to soften his harsh opinion of them more generally.
They go to Isengard, Pippin looks in the Palantír, and away Pippin and Gandalf go. Both Gandalf and Faramir here would recognise that it would be batshit insane for Faramir to go back to MT now, because Denethor would read him like a picture book and he’d have to admit to the entire mission of the Fellowship.
Over in Plot A, I think we’re going to have some real emotional complexity vis a vis Faramir showing up at Henneth Annûn with two hobbits, a ring, and Boromir in control there. God, it would just be a disaster. My incredibly generous interpretation of this is that Faramir keeps the plan vague enough that Boromir lets them pass unhindered. My less generous interpretation is… yeah I don’t wanna do it tbh. It’s not pretty. It's also, to be clear: not an indictment of Boromir as a character. His response is entirely rational for someone expected to lead a kingdom and for someone put up against the unbelievable power of the One Ring. The reason Faramir continuously gets to pass largely untempted by the ring is because he's a guy with no actual responsibilities once you take the Rangers away. His understanding of his duty to Gondor is almost entirely conceptual in nature. He can think and talk about defending Gondor as it once was because there are several people above him in the hierarchy defending Gondor for what it is. This is also not an indictment of Faramir. He and Boromir just have wildly different realities to contend with.
They are going to go through Cirith Ungol even though Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumbass both speak Sindarin and don’t cotton on to what its name implies lol. This whole scene is much shorter because Faramir’s significantly more cautious, so there is no Orc capture and Sam doesn't take the Ring. This is where things get a bit complex, and where I don’t think I have the imagination to say much more. Sorry!
Back in Plot B, the lads catch up with Éowyn as they prep to go down the Paths of the Dead. If she and Faramir are a thing, this is where the real emotional distress kicks in for her. All of the men in her life have, at one point or another, functionally abandoned her, and here’s Faramir, love of her life, about to do the exact same thing. Faramir inevitably goes with the Grey Company even though she begs him not to. When she tries to convince them not to go down the Paths at all, he is in the fortunate enough position to throw up his hands and say 'not my call, actually. King’s in charge,' which lessens the emotional conflict there somewhat.
No part of me doubts that Éowyn wouldn’t then immediately go over his head to Aragorn. She would, she absolutely does not give a fuck. And she’s going to get knocked back re: joining them in exactly the same way as in the book, because Aragorn’s take here isn’t actually dependent on her personally, it’s dependent on the duty she’s been charged with, which is taking care of her people. (Also going to be an interesting narrative parallel to a later conversation between Faramir and Aragorn after the Pelennor, which I’ll explain in more detail later.)
Faramir will, perhaps somewhat less dismissively, say this to her. He learns much more obviously the way to talk to her on her own terms, and he’s not gonna fall into the trap of letting her be like ‘you just want me to wait and die after all the men are dead.’ He’s going to probably give her some line about her being the last organised line of defence, and he might even invoke Haleth! It’s not going to work, because Éowyn’s very aware of the apocalyptic nature of all of this, but it’s not going to cause such abject hatred and fury as it otherwise would.
If she and Faramir are not a thing, her emotional distress is as it is in the book, except now Faramir’s trying not to pout in the background. He might even step in to try and soften the blow.
Regardless, she ends up as Dernhelm, she rides to the Pelennor.
Boromir is the one responsible for the Osgiliath retreat, and because it’s heavily implied that Faramir only keeps his seat because he’s got this dumbass Númenor garbage going on ('master of man and beast' — king Beregond), Boromir’s going to get killed by the Witch king here.
This is going to send shockwaves through not just Denethor, but Minas Tirith more generally, because Boromir is fucking adored. Denethor’s going to go high holy crackers much quicker, mostly because Gandalf is a shit stirrer and is going to waste no time at all in announcing that Aragorn, The Rightful King, is on his way, and Denethor will — correctly — surmise that Faramir has chosen Aragorn over returning with whatever Isildur’s Bane is to Gondor. This is the end for Denethor.
Éowyn rides from Dunharrow, slays the Witch king. Faramir and Aragorn show up with the Army of Dead, Faramir does not end up injured, but does end up as the Steward (obviously) and (obviously) aware that Éowyn is in the HOH. And also that everybody else he loves is dead. Yeehaw.
Here’s where I think things get really interesting. I think, counter to the way this is portrayed a lot of the time, Faramir doesn’t go to the Black Gate at all. I think he stays in Minas Tirith, not just to organise the wider range defences (esp the Rohirrim dealing w the Druadan) but in this very grim preparation to lead the retreat from Minas Tirith if/when Frodo & Sam fail. I think he's kind of fine with this for two reasons. The first is that him being conscious to process the death of his father, and it coming hours after the death of his brother means that he's going to have a personal-political crisis, and he's going to have to take the defence of Gondor more seriously than he did before. Second, Aragorn's going to tell him to fucking stay put, and he's going to be fine with it because it means he's going to get to spend the last few days of his life with Éowyn.
He and Éowyn reunite in the HOH, there’s still a lot of deeply emotional stuff going on, but, at least now Faramir’s conscience is clear re: marrying her because, well, he’s the Steward now. Also their reunion is going to take on greater significance because she’ll have killed the thing that killed his brother. So, that’s a lot.
If they are not a thing before the Pelennor, she's still going to drag his ass over to the HOH so she can bitch about being stuck there. But this time he's not a fellow hospital-prisoner, he's having to actually do things, and he's going to use that to his advantage in terms of keeping her from doing stupid shit. I think he's going to try to involve her in some of the strategic questions re: the retreat if the Morannon feint fails. I think he's going to make a point of talking to her to get her help on dealing with the Rohir forces that are in and around the City. I think that's going to go a huge way to helping to ease her misery, and it's going to be such a significant vote of trust in her (even after she's done the unthinkable and deserted her people) that she's going to fall in love with him here, as per. And the contrast between him and Aragorn is going to be all the stronger for it.
So yes. Those are just some of the possibilities I think! Sorry for the word dump!!

1. Hello again, I am the same anon who sent both of your latest two anonasks. I think there was some confusion so I'll clarify. I don't even ship stony(I've only read handfuls of fics), I ship destiel and I like all mcu characters equally and I am not team cap nor iron but I am a bitter cas girl. There was NO intention to bring any wank or ships/characters bashing to your blog. I was just so angry with 'we are' and your answer to the first ask got me thinking about stony.
2. But my ask was poorly and inadequately worded to confuse you of the ulterior intention and I apologize. Though I shouldn’t have use the ship names when I meant their general relationship both in canon and fanon, what I meant was in regard to the same situation, which is their mother’s deaths, Tony actually drew blood and all Dean did was say some words,
3. so one might think that actual physical conflicts not induced by any supernatural event indicate bad relationship but I feel Dean and Cas’s friendship and general relationship more unhealthy and unbalanced.
4. Now I just decided for my self that that’s probably because Tony and Steve has different visions, families, groups of friends and support system so even if there is conflict between them, Tony still got Pepper Rhodey and Happy and Steve got Bucky Nat and Sam.
5. So no one is left alone in the world. But if Dean’s angry with Cas, Cas is alone in the universe. I meant unhealthy like that. Cas has no one except Winchester families and if that makes Cas desperate for sense of belong and makes him apologize like that, that imao is unhealthy. But all in all, I am sorry for the confusion. I shouldn’t have been so blunt and out of the blue. Post 1502 made me go blind with unreasonable fury.
6. On a different note it’s interesting how wording and context make differences between being perceived as wank baiting anon hate or anon thanks. And I hope that this message is accepted as the latter because I am always grateful of all your reasonable words about Spn and fandom fruits. :) thanks for reading.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Heey, sorry for total misunderstanding with the previous ask and thank you for coming back and clarifying it! And yes, I’m kinda jumpy lately, since couple of my spn critical posts were hijacked by destiel haters and also earned me the blocking from destiel positivity crowd. That’s the fandom we have and that is one huge reason why I’m slowly sauntering into MCU fandom. To be brutally honest, that’s my advice to all bitter Cas girls - get out before you get too frustrated and hurt. The show will continue Cas whump because they don’t know what else to do, and destiel metas will spend all their energy justifying it. Instead of, you know, just saying that bad writing is bad writing. You can always come and vent in my inbox or via DM tho, I’ll try to answer as much as I can, because I feel you.
OK, very quickly about CW movie and Tony’s anger vs Dean’s anger. I don’t think Tony’s situation is comparable at all here. Tony learns about Bucky killing his parents on Hydra’s orders after a long chain of very intense conflicts. That was literally the last drop, there’s little time to process it, and it is the culmination of the movie. On the other side, Dean and Cas conflict is never the centerpiece of SPN, it’s all subtext and Dean’s POV. Dean blaming Cas for Mary’s accidental death comes absolutely out of nowhere. They all knew that Jack is using his soul to do stuff, they all knew Jack needs supervision. FFS, Jack just brought Sam back from dead by using his soul. And now Cas is to blame for it? Not to mention that Dean and Cas relationship is way more complicated than MCU stony. Even if we take out romantic destiel subtext out of it, textually, Cas still is the closest person to Dean after Sam. Dean has called Cas his family, his brother several times. Dean grieved Cas in s13. And now, suddenly, it all means nothing because Dean is angry? Unpopular opinion about SPN writers under the cut.
I said it already back then and I still stand by my words - Berens wrote the line “You are dead to me” deliberately to yank the fandom. There are plenty of other words he could have used if he simply wanted to show Dean’s grief and uncontrollable anger towards Cas. Instead, SPN focused on one thing that would hurt the most and then used it in the promo. I literally saw post on my dash saying that OP was not gonna watch the episode because SPN is just meh, but, after seeing that promo, OP wanted to know why Dean said something so hideous to Cas. Remember how fans hoped that it’s a misleading promo? Remember how fans hoped that Dean will apologize to Cas? There’s an understanding that that line was too much. And, after s14 finale, I saw posts talking about how this is not relevant anymore because surely Jack’s death and Chuck’s machinations override whatever anger Dean could have towards Cas for not telling him about snake. And then 15x01 brought us that passive aggressive scene and, well, 15x02 took the cake.
So, while I totally agree with you that the scene between Dean and Cas was terrible, my way of dealing with it is to blame SPN writers. First of all, I don’t understand what Dean is talking about there. Nothing was real? Does he mean some kind of Matrix type of reality where the real Dean is sleeping in a pod? Otherwise, it was all real. Tell Kevin Tran that his death and time after death was not real. Tell it to Jo, Charlie, Eileen that their deaths were not real. Cas speech is nice, but, honestly, not a groundbreaking revelation. Whedon’s Angel said it wittier, Dumbledore and Gandalf said it more fitting for their stories. There’s a Jewish proverb with similar sentiment. Like, this is nothing new! Our choices matter, sometimes it is the only thing that matters. I mean, everyone who has lived under authoritarian regimes, everyone who’s a minority and has to deal with privileged majority, knows this. To make Dean to refuse it in s15, is honestly very baffling.
Like, I see that SPN writers want to draw some parallels with s4 by flipping Dean and Cas beliefs, but, scene subversion works only if you know why the first scene worked in the first place. I think this scene would have worked better if Dean would be just venting his understandable frustration with the situation. But instead, we got Cas apologizing, Dean still blaming Cas for Mary’s death (seriously wtf?) and then Dean walking out on Cas and refusing Cas’ belief in their choices being real.
And here I come to my last point. Dean saying that their choices were not real because Chuck manipulated everything sounds very much like privileged middle class white people suddenly realizing that they are not calling the shots and then throwing into a towel. This really looks like the most “profound” revelation Bucklemming could’ve come up with. They gave similar moronic lines to Cas in 9x03, when Cas, former angel who watched humanity for thousand of years, was surprised that poor people are kind and generous.
So, to me it looks like SPN writers are trying to be deep but in the end they write what they know best - angry white man is always right trope and le omg, if I’m not the center of the universe then everything was not real story. Which sucks, tbh. And clashes with older seasons of SPN. But here we are. And, since the conflict between Dean and Cas is based on such a weak argument, there can’t be real resolution, catharsis and growth. The current conflict serves only one purpose - to keep Cas and Dean on bad terms and to make Cas leave (because Misha’s contract something something). My worst fear - this stupid conflict will set Cas on self destructive/sacrificial path, and that will be it. Because let’s be serious, destiel is not the most important thing in s15. It’s just not.
Hi! For the silm ask: 4,6,11,14, 18 and 20!
4. What’s your favourite Valar?
*looks back at the, idk, thousands? of Melkor-related posts on my blog + the 150k-ish words of fic he’s featured in* uh, hard to say
6. Would you have followed Fëanor?
Probably. The Feanorians were in the right, at least in the beginning. I can get behind a quest to recover your lost, stolen goods. But I’d also probably have pulled a Galadriel and noped out of there after a kinslaying or two.
11. Do you agree with the way the Valar dealt with Middle-earth?
I don’t have a clear opinion on this. In some ways, I don’t. They could have averted a lot of suffering and death if they’d dealt with Melkor in the beginning. But on the other hand (and this is paraphrasing Gandalf at the end of ROTK), there’s only so much the Ainur are supposed to do; at some point, it becomes the task of the elves, men, hobbits, et al to do it themselves. So honestly, I don’t know.
14. What’s your favourite Maiar?
See question 4, insert Mairon
18. What do you think Eru meant by “And thou, Melkor, shalt see that no theme may be played that hath not its uttermost source in me, nor can any alter the music in my despite. For he that attempteth this shall prove but mine instrument in the devising of things more wonderful, which he himself hath not imagined.”?
I think Eru was paraphrasing St Paul’s letter to the Romans tbh (Catholicism fist bump, bro)
20. If you could be a character from the book which one would you choose?
Bombadil for sure.
2. Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP? 5. Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you? 14. Unpopular opinion about your fandom?
// Ohhh thank you @littlestmun!!! So much!!!
Salty Ask List
2. Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?
Ohhhhh what a loaded question! hehe There are several! :3  Bilbo/Thorin, Legolas/Gimli, and Elrond/Lindir.  All of the ships listed I personally see as only friends but the ships are adorable I agree and see why people ship them. I do love me some cute fanart of these parings though, they are so cute!! It’s just hard for me to see them as anything other than friends. Mostly because I think people can be intimate and close to one another without being romantically/sexually involved, and while sometimes they are, not always. Then along the lines of Elrond and Lindir, I will always hold to that Elrond will never love another aside from Celebrian.
OHH and some people do ship Turgon/Finrod but i see them as forever the closest of best friends, BROTP FOR LIFE
5. Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?
Um well yes and no? There were a few pairings I had thought about liking but didnt really like, I had only thought about them because other people I knew liked them and didnt wanna disappoint . But I found out fairly quickly that i didnt wanna ship them so they werent really ruined because I never liked them to begin with.
Hmm the only pairing I can think of that was actually ruined for me is..umm Gandalf and Galadriel. I had liked the ship yearssss ago when i was just getting into Tolkien and it wasnt really ruined per se I just learned more about them and changed my mind the deeper i get into the fandom. :3
14. Unpopular opinion about your fandom?
tbh I cant think of a single thing?  The tokien fandom is pretty chill I think. Although.. without stirring up any trouble I would like to say that I think too many people hate on some of the mothers in tolkien a little too strongly.
Danni: so glad you entrusted your fucking life to a child who is going to get distracted by barney
didn’t kirby say it could only make one call.  and you used it without his permission to call your old girlfriend in an emergency
you deserve to get eaten
I AM TEN TIMES DUMBER THAN WHEN I STARTED THIS MOVIE
Ian: YAYYYY!!!
Danni: CHRIS PRATT YOUR RAPTOR PACK BETTER BE WORTH THIS
Ian: Oh come on, it was at least somewhat fun, right?
Danni: thiiiiis was awful
i feel like my iq dropped
Ian: I remember leaving the theater after my first time watching it and I remember overhearing someone say "That was good, but not enough people died in it."
Danni: PFFFFF
10/10
(but no seriously what the fuck even was this movie)
Ian: Most fans consider JP3 as the "cash-in" sequel.
Danni: i would agree
Ian: For what it's worth though, the same fans agree that Jurassic World redeems it back.
As do I.
~~~~
And then I watched Jurassic World and fucking adored the movie more than the first three.  FINALLY.

Of the Beginning of Days
I’ll confess I find the first few parts of this story to be a bit of a drag, but here’s some interesting stuff I extrapolated:
I love the line about Melkor hating the sea because he could not control it, because we’re told that remnants of the music are said to exist within the sound of water. I’ve always interpreted this on a metaphysical level rather than a metaphorical one, and I like that Melkor is angry at not being able to bend the sea to his will, as he was angry at not being able to completely dominate the Music. I’ve been giving a lot of thought to the physical aspects of Arda that are microcosms to what exists outside of it - such as, Eru cannot enter the world, and requires the Valar to give physical shape to what is described in the music. And I like the idea of water being the purest physical manifestation of the power of the Music.
We’re told that Uinen restrained Ossë from joining Melkor and got him to repent, which..... really??? It’s bad enough that Tolkien frequently employs this “wife as moral compass for headstrong man” trope, he has to apply those sorts of gender roles to spirits that don’t even have fixed bodies??? wth.
Tbh I’m inclined to interpret all the stuff about the Valar taking on genders and marrying each other as Elvish writers applying their own cultural ideals to the Valar.
Olórin apparently frequently walks unseen among the Elves, and puts “fair visions” or “the promptings of wisdom” into their hearts. Which on one level is very nice, but.... I take some issue with affecting people’s thoughts or sensory perceptions without their knowledge or permission? Which is another reason why I kind of can’t with Gandalf....
“In the deep places music runs through all the veins of the world in sorrow and in joy; for if joyful is the fountain that rises in the sun, its springs are in the wells of sorrow unfathomed at the foundations of the Earth.” I REALLY LOVE THIS QUOTE tbh and it reminds me of that line from On Fairy Stories about “joy as poignant as grief”. Joy and sorrow are always tightly intertwined in Tolkien’s stories and even if I don’t agree with the powers that shape the stories in that way, I like it as an aesthetic.
The text claims of the Valar that "if ever in their dealings with Elves and Men the Ainur have endeavored to force them when they would not be guided, seldom has this turned to good, howsoever good the intent.” Which I have.... a lot of mixed feelings about, but I feel like it’s worth returning to later.
Of course there’s that line about how Men are the most like Melkor of all the Ainur. Which, racist Elves, but I also think it’s true. Not in the sense of morality, but in the sense that Men are inherently, as we are told, unsatisfied with the world and with what they have, and I think the same is definitely true of Melkor.

LP D&D: It’s Getting Boring by the Sea
It’s finally time for the party to attend the dinner party at Lord Heir’s estate, where they’ve heard rumors that there may be an attempt on John Merrow, the Visible Lord of Waterdeep’s life. Failure to protect him would mean that the city-state would fall completely into the hands of the Anonymous Lords, many of whom had already been swayed by the Sisters of the Night. The gang must work quickly to unravel the conspiracy before it’s too late!
Content under the break.
Trouble at the Mister Mister //A brothel by the harbor in Waterdeep
While Graham was visiting the brothel, his father wanders in out of nowhere
Mr. Broyer is perplexed
“Esmeralda is my friend,” explained the Graham
“Sh-she works here... as a dancer, I think”
Sir Huey, who was supposed to be engaged to (deadname), is also there, and is generally confused.
They want Graham to come back to the estate they’ve been staying at
Grandchildren
Marry Huey
Go back with mother
Condescension and misgendering abound
Jake wants to pause
But there is no pause in d&d
Mr. Broyer finds out that Graham is using his late brother’s name, and is infuriated
He attempts to flip the table and bolt for the door
The family is blocking the door
Graham bungles the table flip
Mr. Broyer attempts to restrain Graham, but he shoulder checks his father, knocking the old man over
He escapes the building, and runs through the streets of Waterdeep
House Broyer chases Graham through the city
Graham is surprisingly nimble, and navigates the goods in the street easily
Some cargo is strewn about the road, and Graham misty steps over it
He tries to hide in Lupe’s hangar //In the gang’s desperate struggle to derive utility from the semi-tame wyvern, they set her up in a warehouse with a receding roof.
Successfully
House Broyer runs past the warehouse, losing Graham
Lupe is nonplussed by his intrusion
She needs her beauty sleep, yo
Lupe happens to have tongues on her from last session //Phrasing!
A “moment” occurs between Graham and Lupe
Graham fills Lupe in on what’s just happened
His explanation rambles a bit
It’s basically his whole life story
...but Lupe went back to sleep
Graham falls asleep on top of Lupe
He dreams of his father’s words, his mother turning into a snake, and the skyline of Calimport
The next morning
Lucas teleports onto the ship
Greg says he was worried
Lucas is a wreck after the incident in Proskur
They go to their room below decks
Lucas tells Greg everything
Gandalf turned out to be a necromancer
He was “experimenting” on the locals
He had to die
Lucas and a friend were able to kill the wizard, but the friend died
When she died, Lucas absorbed her soul
Multiclassing, folks!
Lucas says the “L” word //“Lesbian?” “No, Scott.” “...Lesbians?”
Greg and Lucas make out
Lucas says they’ll get married after they take back Beydale //An inland duchy Greg is the heir to.
Greg seems pleased with this development
The two can rule Beydale
Greg wants to use the party as a platform to raise support for the reconquista of Beydale
Lucas gives Greg the raven statuette //I forget what the significance of this is
The planeswalkers return from Sigil
Without tote bags! What even was the point??
Coy realizes that world geometry makes sense again, kisses the ground
Escrima wants to give “baby girl Coy” a piggyback ride
But Coy wants to get down
Coy wanders off
They remember that they’re missing some party members, and head towards the ship
They pass by Lupe’s hangar, waking up Graham
Graham sees the party, and Coy’s tits
He kisses Coy’s hand
Coy is flustered
Max is also flustered
Coy tries to explain that she’s Coy, but Graham isn’t having it
But eventually, he recognizes her
Graham is confused
“I’m a paladin”
“Esmeralda is my friend”
Escrima sort of explains what happened with Narcovi
Escrima shows Graham his new tramp stamp
It was an ode to mother
Sometimes, Escrima doesn’t feel like he has a body.
Something possesses Graham to try and hug Escrima
...Who is entirely uncomfortable
Graham realizes that Coy transitioned, suddenly
“Coy, you cut your hair!”
“Where did you get... those..?”
Coy explains that she was transformed in a “flesh carving” shop in Sigil
Graham is curious about how to get there
The gang reminds him about the portal in Neverwinter
Everyone’s exhausted, and they head back to the Tavern Estate
Graham is trying reeeeally hard not to stare at Coy’s breasts
Shopping ensues
Coy needs to fix her order with the armorer, and the gang heads to the market district
The Planeswalkers run into Lucas and Greg, who were out buying clothes for the party
Lucas doesn’t recognize Coy
Coy introduces herself, but Lucas doesn’t believe that it’s her
She has big boobs. Coy does not have big boobs
Lucas tries to ask her a question that only she would know the answer to
Coy answers correctly, convincing Lucas of her identity
Lucas realizes that Coy was on the receiving end of a high level spell
He looks around in the book on 9th level spells for an idea of what it was
He takes some brain damage from reading forbidden knowledge
The spell is in there somewhere, but he can’t understand the words
Coy explains everything again
“YOU WENT TO SIGIL WITHOUT ME AGAIN??? MY ADVENTURE SUCKED!”
The gears in Lucas’ head start turning at the mention of that kind of power
He would never turn Coy into a kaiju for fun and profit.
Coy playfully punches Lucas’s shoulder, specifically the one that just got blown to bits
Lucas gets a good enough suit from a good enough shop
Coy goes looking for a dress, but she can’t find exactly what she wants
She gets something anyway, I think (?)
Coy goes to the armorer to be remeasured
It’s gonna take a couple hours and a few more gold.
They arrive back at the estate //Rocky generously allowed the party to stay at a pretty nice mansion in town while we were in the city
Coy wants to know about Akim
The butler is a little confused, but Coy explains herself again
Akim is in Coy’s room
Coy worries about what Akim will think
She goes to visit Akim
But falls asleep instantly
Lucas accidentally calls Jeeves a bartender, and he is indignant
Rolen gives Jeeves some of the wyvern venom, and asks him to sell it
Escrima goes to sleep by the pond
Everyone else goes to sleep in their bed, like normal people
During his trance, Rolen notices that something is trying to get out of his stomach
It has 8 legs
He concentrates real hard, and it goes away
Rolen gets up before everyone else, because elf
He does something clandestine
Graham grows personally to catch up with everyone else
Rolen reveals that he went out in the night to get a cake and some things for Escrima
The whole lobby of the mansion is decorated
There’s 3 gifts by the cake
Bald head shine oil
Deck of cards from calimport
The bestiary
Rolen and everyone sings “Happy Birthday”
Escrima is confused
Rolen explains that it’s for mothers’ day
He figured that since Escrima was interested in Lupe, he should have some animal handling supplies
Rolen becomes inspired!
The cake gives the gang advantage against fear
Escrima is confused, but pleased
Akim stumbles in
“Oh, there’s cake!”
He’s not used to nice beds... or beds at all, really
He wants to know where Coy is
Coy hides behind Graham
Lucas attempts to explain things
Akim doesn’t care as long as Coy still loves him
Tbh the meme of “what’ll the kids think?” is the dumbest thing. It’s the adults that are the problem.
Coy is nervous about being a teen parent
The party is in 2 hours
Coy picks up her armor
Graham picks up Esmeralda
Esmeralda is working a customer when he gets there
Graham awkwardly asks if she can go to the party
She’s reluctant after the fit that was pitched last night
He gives her some cash, and she agrees to go
Lucas & Greg “prepare” for the party
Lucas applies mage armor to the both of them
The gang picks up their stuff from the tailor
The stuff there gives a +1 to CHA
Neverwinter styles rock, apparently
The merchant wants some of the fabric that Connie’s dress is made of
She says that all attendees need to make a donation to the sisters to enter
Escrima goes to Lupe’s Hangar
Escrima uses beast speech to talk to Lupe
Lupe confers that it will protect the party
...but Escrima forgot to unchain her
Connie disguises herself as a noble-looking human //Specifically, a different one than the last time she ran into the Sisters
They reach the entrance
Inventories are reduced
Coy is wearing some kinda armor, because she’s too good for the dress Connie got her in Sigil
The guards don’t care anyway
Plebs!
The gang flashes their invitations
It’s 100 gp per person to enter
The highest donation gets to chill with Elsa and Lord Heir
Greg talk about Beydale with some nobles
The town of MossStone was destroyed recently, which worries Lucas
His brother lived there
Greg mentions his quest
But the nobles aren’t having it
The sisters have told the nobles that they’ll take care of the hordes in the south
Greg blows his stack
The nobles tell them to cool it
Lucas yanks Greg away, and tells him that the nobles might not be worth it.
He tries to console him. The gang can handle anything the sisters can throw at them
...But it’s still not an army
One of the nobles has a sisters of the night logo
Sister Melina
The gang wanders around
Coy runs into that guy he stole the pendant from
But the guy doesn’t notice the pendant around her neck
Coy enters one of the buildings
A handful of sisters are milling about
Lord Heir is there, talking about how great the sisters are //The Sisters were calling themselves the “Sisters of Dawn,” and trying to act like humanitarians or something. The city apparently believed them, and allowed them to park airships above the city for some reason.
Coy has an idea. Oh no!
The players tell Max to not get them all arrested
She checks to see if Hier is married
There’s no ring there...
She tries to awkwardly hit on Hier
Hier introduces some of his bros
He talks about how he met the sisters of the night
Connie and Rolen try to save Merrow
Connie uses sending to tell him that his life might be in danger
Merrow tells her to meet him in a shed on the edge of the estate
The pair start heading over
Graham bumps into Merrow on the way over
Merrow says that he’d seen the rest of House Broyer at the party
Graham tries to brag about Esmeralda
But Merrow’s having none of it
Esmeralda remarks that she knows a lot of people at the party
She’s had a “professional” relationship with Merrow in the past
Somehow Graham is oblivious to all the innuendo being thrown around
Some bard intercepts Graham and Esmeralda
He says some absurd limerick
Graham is amused by his jokes

He deduces the pair works for Rocky
Rolen explains the theory about the assassination attempt
Merrow tells the pair that he isn’t in more danger than usual
He wants to gather information at the party
Merrow wants to raise a levy to reconquer the south
Rolen gives Merrow a death ward, and leaves
At this point, Kim had to leave to yell at kids for 3 hours, and the session ended prematurely.
Escrima is nervous about all the socializing, and does some people watching
A waiter offers him a drink
Escrima wants to know if there are any ponds
There aren’t, but there’s a fountain
It has frogs in it
Escrima heads for the pond
Escrima gets to the pond
There’s a jester/bard there, hyucking it up
Escrima asks if he “can see the ripples in the sky make it boom boom”
Jester hands him a frog, and turns it into a rabbit
Escrima is nonplussed
Escrima really wants the boom boom
Jester appeases him with some fireworks
“You need to pacify the people,” he asks the jester
Escrima wants the jester to gtfo of the fountain so he can drink
He has to make a CON saving throw
It doesn’t sit well, and he pukes his guts out
The noblery leave in disgust
Jester is pissed, that was a lot of tip money
Rolen and Connie discuss plans
They decide they want to try and get into the VIP table
Escrima can use suggestion, maybe
Failing that, they’re pretty loaded
Rolen goes to find Escrima, and Connie tails Merrow
Rolen goes looking for Escrima
He’s not by the gates anymore, but the guards know who he’s looking for
Rolen goes to the pond
The jester is mad
Rolen eggs him on a bit
Jester wants to do something really amazing
He turns Escrima into a dragon briefly
Jester gets a lot of tips
Rolen points out that they’re probably even at this point
Rolen tries to explain that Connie wants to talk to him
“Carry me!”
Mother hasn’t been contacting Escrima recently, and he’s distraught
“Oh nevermind, where’s Constanza?”
A noblewoman tries to distract Connie, but she isn't having it
Merrow is talking with a knight and a sister
Connie tells Merrow to watch his ass
Merrow invites her over
Knight is a sheriff of Waterdeep
Sister is Sister Sasha
Greg is dejected about the nobles sandbagging his reconquista
Lucas is worried for his safety
Greg wants to talk to Merrow
He doesn’t want to stay away from the sisters, because-
FUCK YOU LUCAS YOU’RE NOT MY REAL MOM
Rich reminds JP that Greg was the one who was worried about the sisters
Greg starts to agree with Lucas
It’s possible that he’s connected to Amarak somehow //Amarak was an ancient kingdom that occupied most of the Sword Coast. She previously repelled an earlier uprising by the Sisters.
Sister Melina approaches Lucas
She reminds him that Elsa doesn’t like him very much, and not to cause any trouble
Lucas gets his edge on
It’s best if nobody causes trouble
Lucas talks to greg about how his brother might be dead
A bard approaches Graham and Esmeralda
He tells the most lewd poem he could think of, at Esmeralda’s expense
Graham and the bard bicker about whether Esmeralda is a lady or a whore
Esmeralda is angry Graham didn’t just glass him
Graham reminds her that it would ruin the entire party
OH SHIT COY’S STILL IN THE BALLROOM
Hier talks about how Merrow has been blocking the sisters from
“Do I have to make a CON save to not fall asleep?”
WAITWAITWAIT NO
But JP moves forward with it
She falls asleep for a bit
Hier asks her name
Coy can’t think of a new name on the spot
Hier assumes she’s just smashed
Hier invites her to the most prestigious of places to bang: the utility closet
In his own damned house
5 minutes later, the two head to the closet
Coy wants to hold hands, but Hier tells her to not make things conspicuous
Coy and Hier move to his study
Hier locks the doors behind them
Coy notices that Hier looks a bit like her dad
“A fat, bald Danny DeVito”
Hier’s getting all handsy
Coy asks if he owns the airship
Proposes they bang on the ship
Hier says that there’s no time
“Watchu doin’, Coy?”
AAAAAAAUGH
“HE’S MOVING FOR HIS PANTS, COY”
Coy uses the potion of invisibility, confusing Hier
She jumps to the ceiling to try and hang onto the rafters
Hier wonders if he’s hallucinated the whole scenario
Coy says that the sisters are not to be trusted
Hier still can’t find her. He leaves the room, and locks several door behind him on the way out
Coy attempts to investigate, but the dice aren’t having it
There’s a letter from Elsa about murdering Merrow and putting Hier in control
The sisters want his army, and for him to sign a non-aggression pact
Make Waterdeep great again!
There’s some heavy armor in there too, and it looks enchanted
“I’m gonna take it.”
Rich suggests a “bra of holding”
Merrow introduces Vigo and Sasha to the other party members
Lucas is obviously not enjoying the party
Greg introduces himself to Merrow
Lucas glares at Sasha
Sasha appears to be salivating a bit
Lucas calls her out, and she leaves
Merrow seems interested in helping
But his hands are a bit tied
If Beydale becomes a vassal of Waterdeep, he’ll help
Greg doesn’t know what to say
Merrow mentions that Waterdeep thinks of Beydale as being fairly insignificant
Lucas mentions the possible assassination attempt again
He lends Merrow his bird //Lucas has a raven as a familiar. It’s named “Siegfried”
It’s totes fashionable
Lucas asks Vigo about his brother //A Military officer
Drow sacked Mossstone
Vigo says that he’ll try and look his name up tomorrow
Merrow confirms that house Broyer is at the table
Merrow is friendly with Esmeralda of course
“Esmeralda is my friend”
“She’s friends with a lot of people”
“Well, you can never have too many friends.”
After much bickering, the party decides that-
Escrima accidentally says something about the blueblood virgins or something out loud //Part of the lore the party picked up in the Candlekeep basement archives. It implies that Greg and Beydale are lore-important
Lucas & Greg, Connie & Graham shell out to go to the table
Graham leaves Esmeralda with Rolen and Escrima while he goes to the table
He wants her to make sure they’re “happy and satisfied”
Greg and Lucas make out, attracting a passing fujoshi
Lucas glares at her
OH YOU MUST BE THE SEME THEN LOL XD XD XD XD
Esmeralda manages to get a few more GP out of Graham
Esmeralda encounters Escrima
Escrima doesn’t like to be touched
He’s not into lovemaking
...though who knows where he heard that language from
A waiter tells the gang that the VIP dinner is starting
Lucas tells Connie that he’s not feeling very social, and she may need to smooth things over for him
He briefly considers using minor illusion to obscure his face, but everyone knows him already
“We’ll wing it, it’ll be great” -Rich
Rolen attempts some infiltration
He tries to explore the kitchen, but a guard says no
Coy is still stuck in Hier’s study
Hier left the window open
Coy climbs out the window, and closes the window behind her
Graham notices that Osric and Viper are already in the main room //His parents. Viper is not actually his mother’s name, she’s just an asshole.
Coy sneaks into the main room
A butler asks who he should announce as the gang as they enter
The players are confused
They settle on “Sir Graham Broyer and Lady of Athkatla Constanza de Catarina”
...and guest
That damned vampire is here //One of the nobles was revealed to be a vampire during that abandoned plotline
Coy slips the letter into Merrow’s pocket
Coy and Merrow’s pocket OTP

Coy uncloaks in the middle of the room, and insists that she follow Lucas
Elsa brings up that she was a captive on the gang’s ship wayyyy back in session 1 or something
Graham corrects her. They saved her ass, tbh
Viper drinks more
“Ladies shouldn’t talk politics.”
Graham gets in a weird argument withe Viper
She drops the G-bomb //Graham’s deadname starts with “G”
Viper complains about Graham’s company
Lucas is not in the mood for little digs
Graham wants to know about Elsa’s mission
She spins the same yarn we’ve been hearing all night
But that’s not good enough
Coy mage hands Merrow in the pocket with the letter
Elsa has trouble providing detail
Merrow reads the letter.
Rolen & co. continue their exterior collisions matrix of the house
Escrima gets a guard to vacate his post with suggestion
They enter the pleb’s dining hall

It is pulverized
They investigate, but the dice are pissed tonight, and they find nothing

Vampire brown noses for no reason
Graham drops the name “sisters of the night”
Lucas notices that the waiters have been super quiet
He asks one of they speak common
Hier says they shouldn’t talk to the lower class
The servant attempts to leave quietly
Connie calls Viper a Viper
Osric and Viper attempt to leave, but Hier stops them
There’s some kind of magic in the servants
Merrow brings up the letter
Coy reveals that she found the note in Hier office
And also that he tried to rape her
The servants were Gnolls all along!
They sneak attack everyone
Battle against Elsa, Melina and their Gnoll henchmen
The gang is caught off guard
Connie casts evard’s black tentacles, restraining several of the gnolls
Lucas begins bladesinging
Lucas uses hypnotic pattern on the other gnolls, incapacitating several of them
Coy stabs the gnoll behind her
And by “stab,” I mean “instantly beheads”
At this point, Rolen, Escrima, and the others realize there’s a problem
There’s some gnolls wrestling with the tentacles in the other end of the hall
They head towards the dining hall
Elsa attempts to send to someone, but Lucas stops her
Elsa swears like a sailor

She takes fall damage
She tries to turn a guard on the party, but fails miserably
The tentacles finish off the other 3 gnolls on their side of the room
Graham jumps out the window after Elsa, landing two deadly blows
“I spared you once, and it was a huge mistake.”
He runs her through. The holy damage causes her to explode into bright lights and viscera
Sister Elsa of the Night is killed.
The guard next to Elsa and Graham attempts to attack the gnoll next to her, but misses twice
The guard in the dining room attacks a gnoll with a crit
Greg congratulates Escrima on his last turn

The ship blasts the roof off the dining hall
Lord Osric Broyer of Sorabia is killed in the impact
Viper is understandably distraught
The folks at the Mister Mister will probably send flowers
Escrima casts eldritch blast on the sisters in the hall
The bolts fly out the door behind them
Escrima panics a bit
A gnoll stabs Connie
The gnolls on the other side of the wall escape the tentacles, finally
Graham beats one of the gnolls that was trapped in the tentacles half to death
Merrow shivs a gnoll from across the table
Greg runs away, using his action to disengage
All magic seems to get sucked out of the building
We had to roll damage anyway. Spooky!
Rolen puts the hurt on the hallway sisters with spirit guardian
Lucas identifies the magic sucking device as being a spellskite
It’s a monster that eats spells. Eating enough makes it explode or something
Escrima wants to lick the sack
Coy continues to chase vampire man and evade more cannon fire
She picks some locks upstairs
Rolen regroups with Escrima
Vigo flees the manor like a huge yellow coward
The npcs in the room jump out the window
Lots of nobles have been gibbed
The airship fires another volley, and the shot lands in the great hall
Escrima bolts for the door, and spots the gnoll woman
The gnoll woman dumps a cloud kill on most of the party
Viper breaks the news of Osric’s death to Graham
Graham severely wounds one of the gnolls next to him
Connie screams for help and bolts for the window.
Lucas runs away from the fart gas, and to the window Connie jumped out of
Coy attempts to climb a ladder to the airship, but falls to the ground in front of the mansion
Rolen nearly dies in the fart gas
He heals himself and tries to flee with Greg
The airship fires another volley, and the shot lands in the great hall again
Escrima ducks into a coat closet and gives himself an HP buff
The gnoll woman goes looking for him
He closed the door behind him, but gnolls have a strong sense of smell
She KNOWS where he is
She casts blight!
Escrima fails his throw, barely hanging on //“JUST END ME” -Rap
Mother won’t let him die just yet
The gnolls in the alley attack Graham
They beat him half to death
Viper chides him for being in a bad spot
Graham kills the two gnolls easily
Greg hides in Hier’s rape study
A sister runs into the alley looking for Elsa, but realizes she’s dead as a doornail
Coy repositions herself in the courtyard, and spots the spellskite
She decides to try and climb the rope to the airship
...but then JP reminds her that she has the teleportation hat
She teleports to the other end of the rope, and climbs aboard
There’s a few dozen soldiers on board. How fun! //”‘A few dozen’ = 300″ -Rich “Okay, several dozen!” -Kim
Another volley from the ship gibs a bunch of civilians
Escrima attempts to smash through a wall, but he fails
He runs away, and uses his pact weapon to bar a door behind him
The priestess uses acid splash on the door, and it dissolves the door
“The Graham train is gonna do something!”
The Graham train wants to smash a wall to get to Escrima, but can’t tell which part of the wall escrima is behind
He gets lucky and smashes the right wall
Graham makes a kool-aid man noise as he smashes the wall
Connie ushers Viper and Hier through an open window
Mind the tentacles!
Connie takes a swig of Viper’s wine
They move through the building towards the front hall
The remaining sister leaves the alleyway, and calls to the gnoll woman to bail
Lucas jumps out the window into the alley, taking a crit from one of the gnolls on the way out
Merrow follows him
Coy tries to intimidate the soldiers on the ship
Predictably, it doesn’t work very well
JP didn’t expect Coy to try and board the airship
She teleports to the balloon and starts cutting the ropes attaching it to the ship
The ship is off balance, and lurches around unevenly
Rolen runs to the front door, and is confused about the plan
The gnoll woman conjures a pair of hyenas next to her and misty steps away
The gnolls in the dining hall burst out the window and chase lucas down the alley
The Graham train attacks the hyenas, wounding one of them
Graham and Lucas decide they should just leave
The gnoll woman and the remaining sister teleport away
The hyenas attack Graham
Lucas reactivates bladesinging, and heals Graham a bit
He remembers that if he says “explosion,” people will run faster
Coy does a really cool ninja move, and cuts through one of the ropes and part of the balloon
The ship is hanging by one rope, but is vertical. The soldiers fall onto the mansion from about 300 feet up
An orc splats in front of Lucas
Luckily, none of the party members gets hit by the falling soldiers
Coy becomes inspired!
Escrima manages to scare one of the hyenas away
Graham kills a hyena, but his sword is really wedged in its corpse
Connie catches up to Rolen, and asks for first aid
The remaining hyena disappears
Coy attempts to grab the remaining rope, but fails
She teleports next to Connie
...But lands next to Lucas, about 15 feet off the mark
Lucas wants to know if the airship was Coy’s fault
Of course it was. Why wouldn’t it be?
The spellskite ceases to exist, since the gnoll woman fell off the airship.
Apparently, she summoned it
The ship crashes through the northeastern quadrant of the mansion, obliterating the structure
The force of the blast pushes everyone out of the front door
Combat ends
WHAT A GREAT PARTY GUYS
The gang curses out Hier
Merrow agrees to help reconquer Beydale
Lucas realizes Greg is still alive, and gives him a big hug. Aww.
Coy points out that they just barely saved Waterdeep from total destruction
The second airship sails away
The braindead guards finally open the damn gates

Note
All the silm questions. Yolo
1. What’s your favourite Noldor? Finarfin. No contest. I love my blond son.
2. What’s your favourite elf (can be Noldor or not)? Beleg, naturally. I do love a lot of elves though
3. What’s your favourite dwarf? Gimli, I love him so much? What a dude. He counts because I said so.
4. What’s your favourite Valar? Nienna!
5. What’s your favourite man of the First Age? Haleth or Túrin, I can’t pick
6. Would you have followed Fëanor? Nope
7. Glaurung or Ancalagon? Well, it depends what for. Ancalagon probably has more destructive power but Glaurung has the brains. Depends if I just wanna crush the city or if I wanna ruin the city.
8. What’s your favourite character of the book? (You CAN’T cheat like me, it must be JUST ONE) I love all of them so much but I gotta say Beleg.
9. Discuss Maeglin’s actions and motives. Ah, Maeglin, the poor thing. You gotta feel sorry for him, you know? His mum dies, his dad’s an arse (and dead) and no doubt he felt like an outsider in Gondolin. I don’t blame him for giving into Melkor, but I think the best thing to do was to tell people what was coming once he got back. He could have saved a lot of lives - including his own.
10. Which King of Númenor is your favourite? ngl, I don’t know much about them so I’m gonna play safe and say Elros.
11. Do you agree with the way the Valar dealt with Middle-earth? Well, in their defense, when they did go to war in Middle-Earth personally, it caused a lot of damage. They could have been more clear with their advice/plans though.
12. Doriath or Nargothrond? Doriath!
13. A character you don’t like and why. I don’t actually dislike any characters, I’m just kinda meh on some I guess
14. What’s your favourite Maiar? Gandalf! He knows his shit. And he totally counts as Silmarillion okay.
15. Would you trust Ossë? You can’t trust anyone.
16. What do you think of Fingolfin going to attack Melkor? One of the biggest bad ideas in the book, tbh.
17. You are Fëanor and YOU HAVE the silmarils (Melkor didn’t take it). Would you give them to Yavanna save the two trees and bring light to Valinor again?  I would, but I really like trees and I’m probably a little biased.
18. What do you think Eru meant by “And thou, Melkor, shalt see that no theme may be played that hath not its uttermost source in me, nor can any alter the music in my despite. For he that attempteth this shall prove but mine instrument in the devising of things more wonderful, which he himself hath not imagined.”? I don’t know what he meant exactly but he knew 100% what he was doing when he let Melky loose on the world.
19. Who do you think had the worse destiny: Húrin or Túrin? Túrin! Even though Húrin had to watch it all happen, he got to have a life before the curse where everything was at least kind of happy and hopeful. Poor Túrin never really had that chance.
20. If you could be a character from the book which one would you choose? None of them. Who do you think I am? They all have horrible lives. But maybe Findis if I had to pick. That’s not quite so bad.
21. What do you think of Melkor considering all since the song? What a dude. He’s evil, you have to admire his determination to be evil.
22. If you could marry one of Fëanor’s sons which one would you choose? Celegorm. We can have a hundred puppies instead of kids.
23. What do you think of Eöl? He’s an interesting character, but a right arsehole. 0/10 would not be friends with.
24. Why do you think that the race of men are the only one that never went to Valinor besides the orcs? I imagine Men reproduce faster than elves, so maybe they’d run out of space. Maybe the final resting place of Men is cooler than Valinor. Maybe the Valar are jerks. Who knows.
25. What’s your favourite Age? First Age for sure. Gotta love the drama
26. Imagine Sauron falls in love with you but you love Melkor who loves no one (seriously that little shit). What do you do? Marry Sauron for power and seduce Melkor. Obviously.
27. What do you think it was the most evil deed of Melkor? I dunno man, he did so much shit that I can’t even remember rn.
28. Would you prefer to fight against Gothmog (the balrog of course) or Glaurung? Gothmog.
29. If you were an elf in Midlle-earth after the War of Wrath would you sail immediately to Valinor or wait a little more in Middle-earth? I’d say in Middle-Earth it’s cooler there.
30. What do you think of the fact that Tolkien created in 360-ish pages something so perfect and complex? What a nerd. Thanks
