#I think I'm going to pretend that this comic doesn't exist.
Note
So, Across the Spiderverse has had me in a chokehold since I watched it. Could you imagine a Yuu in the House Mouse au who is not exactly powerless, but her abilities are not magic-based? Welcome to the crossover that nobody asked for, and I'm gonna pretend that secret identities don't exist for a moment and that disrupting canon events from astv don't exist.
Spider!Yuu's spidey senses can tell when danger is afoot. Whenever she's on the clock, there's fewer accidents and just swings by before Goofy trips and tosses all the dishes. She can tell when either Pete or Mortimer are here. The staff can rely on her for cleaning the high ass ceilings because she can climb up walls with no problem. And her webs make the best Halloween decor.
Von Drake and Jumba being so fascinated with Yuu's anatomy and intelligence. Whether has organic webbing or made web shooters of her own, they want so badly to experiment on them (definitely not gonna try to get bit by a radioactive spider too, nope).
Jamil being torn from freaked out to having a crush on a girl with spider powers. Jafar trying to convince him that she's not an actual spider so that his ship could sail
Yuu making a web hammock to calm down the little kids in the club. Next minute she's having a strength competition with Hercules and Gaston because she can lift up to ten tons.
The clubgoers seeing her memories and freaking over the fact that Yuu has been up against so many dangerous foes and life or death situations such as the iconic train scene. It scares them even more than the overblots do.
The Parr family from the Incredible (if they're here in the au), feel so bad because she's doing vigilante work all on her own. Edna mode upgrades Yuu's spider suit to a new level with glee.
Yuu: No capes please. It's disrespectful to my image.
Edna: *sniffle* Would you like to be my daughter?
Okay okay okay first of all I'm going to vent a bit about ATSV because Pavitr my boy, my sunshine, my everything is literally so important to me like hell yeah give me the south asian/brown kid representation (now if only there was an young asian girl with a bob so I can feel better about that Dora the Explorer look my mum forced me to have throught 90% of primary school whilst all of my friends got to grow their own hair out)
Also not going to lie the only reason I'm into ATSV is because I've been a Mayday Parker stan since 2017 - like she is everything (and her backstory is just so sad like PeterMJ didn't deserve that). My favourite spider-people after Peter are his multiversal daughters because girldad Peter is everything (I actually own physical copies of the Renew Your Vows comics that are about Peter and MJ's daughter, Annie-May Parker, and they are so frickin good) but I digress...
Yes but Spider-Girl!Yuu is so cool. Thank you for giving me this idea.
I don't know if I want Yuu to have her own Guy in the Chair back in her universe and for Idia to feel jealous/threatened or for her to have no guy in the chair until she comes to twst and Ortho is like 'my time has come'
Ohh imagine the insane parkour skills she, Ruggie and Aladdin would have.
I know that being insanely smart in science is a Peter Parker thing and doesn't really apply to all Spider-People but I think she would be a science whizz (and joining the science club - making Crewel's already glaringly obvious favouritism skyrocket) and hanging out with all of the scientist characters like Prof Von Drake, Jumba, Yzma etc.
Her and Herc would be training buds. He'd see her and her heroics and superhuman friend and be like 'new best friend :D'. Phil loves the heroic potential she has and wants to train her but Pegasus and Megara are like nope and swoop him away.
Oh but imagine the beastfolk finding out about her enhanced senses and how sometimes they cause sensory overload and helping her out because they grew up like that so they know how to manage it better (I once read a fic that said that Savanaclaw showers have soaps with subtler scents to accommodate their enhanced sense of smell and like yes) whilst she's still getting used to it and has to keep it a secret back in her world.
I'm thinking back to all of the MCU!Peter Parker fics I read and all of the spider DNA tropes that tickled my fancy and I can just imagine the twst/HoM cast reacting to things like her having no thermoregulation (and going into hibernation), her purring, her being allergic/having a poison like reaction to peppermint, her having fangs (her being venomous would be cool as well - like imagine Kaa being all fanboying over her fangs and venom glands) etc..
Okay so I remember having a bunch of ideas about this but I can't recall all of them so here... 😅

so like. i'm very conflicted about bruce wayne. when i see superbat stuff i'm all 🥰🥰🥰 but then i think of him with his kids and the way he's treated them and and and i very much want to curb stomp him until he resembles wet cat food. what's up with that?
That's totally normal 😂 I am often feeling a very strong desire to beat that horrible old man with a spiked club, but I also love him to bits!
Contrary to popular belief(?) I don't hate Bruce. I'm pissed with the tendency to pretend he's never done anything wrong. "But I can pick what's canon and what's not!" some people say, and like... I don't really agree with that sentiment but if you want to pretend that Bruce never abused his kids I cannot stop you. Go ahead and live your favorite version of reality, it's still all fiction anyway so who cares. But stop telling people that Bruce abusing people is out of character. IT'S NOT OOC IF IT'S IN THE TEXT GODDAMMIT IDC IF IT DOESN'T FIT YOUR PERSONAL IDEA OF CANON STFU
In general, I would love it if we as the human race stopped acting like DC comics are this wholesome PG13 family friendly thing where everyone is nice and they love each other and nothing bad ever happens, and Bruce would never hurt the people he loves UwU He's such a fantastic dad omg I want to be adopted by him.
That being said. Bruce is my little meow meow. I am SO TRIGGERED by the way he abuses his kids especially Dick and Jason, especially when the writers know what they're doing and employ real existing abuse tactics that are present in toxic families. God it gives me the hives, and I am THERE for it, it's so cathartic. I also love it when he's a fucking hypocrite and treats criminals like shit, and when he's an absolute bitch who will lord over other heroes for no reason and be generally insufferable, because NEWSFLASH, loving a flawed character who does BAD THINGS is normal!
Also, he and Clark are very cute.

Nick is not "too dependent" on Charlie, he had a great life before he met him, unlike Charlie. The reason he is "obsessed" with his boyfriend is that he's the perfect wish fulfillment fantasy, not only is he way out of the league of the self-insert character, he needs to be more into him(You) than vice versa lol. Classic fanfic trope.
I'm kind of sick of people misunderstanding Nick as a character so I'll just leave this here
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
heartstopper isn't for you to be a part of it. unlike the rest of Alice's books, heartstopper allows you to have your own POV, you're not on any of the characters minds and you're not involved in the story at all.
Nick IS dependent on Charlie, he was literally depressed those two weeks they broke up (he wasn't doing anything literally, not showering, crying himself to sleep and barely going out). He's scared about leaving for university because he doesn't think he can exist without Charlie (there are more things that prove this but they're patreon updates so I won't share them).
His life wasn't "great" before he met Charlie, he was practically on "automatic mode" pretending to be someone he isn't to fit in and repressing his real personality and thoughts; he had a monologue in the show and a couple of pages on the comic where he proves this. He was pretending to be someone he wasn't! he said so himself multiple times.
There are also many times this is proven, like when Sarah tells him "he acts much more like himself around Charlie", the change of personality he has since the last episode of season one and the rest of season 2 because he's starting to be himself.
He's really dependent and it's really weird how you're saying he's not when it's so obvious.
Charlie has a whole life besides Nick, like him being in a band and being the head boy of his year. Charlie is dependent too and it's very clear but Nick's dependency is kind of obsessive and it's not good for him.
Also, heartstopper isn't "fanfic" or a BL, the whole reason Alice started to make the comic is because she created them for solitaire and later they wanted to make a story of how the two of them started going out and with that show a lot more about Charlie struggling with his mental health and Nick as a character. They could've even ended the story when they got together but she didn't, they wanted to show a lot more things about the characters as individuals than just their relationship

What comic issue did the whole kon v steph showdown happen? In which he basically called her a poser? I’m wondering what the rest of the young justice teams reaction to her was. I think greta tried to kill her at one point? I don’t think she’s very well liked among that team, but it also makes me wonder if she’s very well liked in the wider hero community at all besides her small group of vigilantes she’s enmeshed herself with through getting involved w Tim and to a lesser extent Batman? What are your views?
Teen Titans (2003) issue #13:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's it in its entirety. The bit with Tim and Conner is very much the story's B-plot, the A-plot is focused on Beast Boy and the rest of the Titans back in San Fran.
As for Steph and Greta -- it is true that Greta is the one member of YJ that Steph ever truly interacted with during that time period. I actually wrote up a whole thing here about the arc of those interactions, but it was kind of off-topic with your question and also long enough that it really deserves its own post, especially because lining it all up together without the multi-year gap between plot points gave me a revelation about how the story actually went.
I'm going to try to get that post up in the next day or so to prove my point but the summation here is: the first time they met, Greta explicitly didn't try to kill Steph -- but afterwards, Steph framed it as "she tried to kill me in a jealous rage" and people took Steph's side because part of Greta's story was that her "good people bad powers" thing made her kind of sus and that's what eventually drove her to join Darksied.
So while Steph did get mentioned in YJ, including getting brought in to help as part of the invasion of Zandia in issues 50-52, her only significant contribution there was a very brief stand-off with Greta and getting stuck in a bubble with a several other 90's characters who I'm pretty sure don't exist anymore.
Tumblr media
The only other person I recognize here is Lagoon Boy. The pink filter doesn't help.
Other than that, the only interaction Steph's had with any member of Tim's friend group is the one issue of Teen Titans (2003), #66, where they're doing this membership drive thing and Steph (recently back from faking her death) tags along so they can pretend that maaaaybe she's going to join the team, but actually she's just there to have a very brief interaction with Traci 13 and Bombshell.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And an even briefer, awkward stare-down with Cassie that's only there because she and Tim's budding romance had been awkwardly cut short just so he could back to Steph the very instant she got back from faking her death no matter how little sense that made.
Tumblr media
And then Steph wasn't even interested in joining the team anyway she was just there for quote, "moral support" as Tim told Cassie he needed to take a break for a while and focus on the pre-Final Crisis chaos going down in Gotham.
Stephanie has never spoken to Bart, Anita, Slobo, or Ray so far as I know. She's never even met Cissie because the Arrowette who went to Zandia turned out to be Bonnie in disguise.
Pre-Flashpoint, the only other people she'd met outside of Gotham are Supergirl (whom she met in World's Finest (2009)) and Squire, who's still technically a Bat even if she lives in England. Stargirl and Miss Martian show up alongside Bombshell and Supergirl towards the end of Steph's solo series but they come out of nowhere only because BQM had wanted to make them part of Steph's entourage at some point but didn't get the chance, so I don't really count them. Nor do I count her showing up in a group shot at the end of the Gail Simone Wonder Woman, since that was just a line-up of cameos from every female hero she could get at the time.
So with all that as the preamble, to answer your second question: no, I don't think Steph is very well-liked by the wider superhero community. I also don't think she's disliked. I think the vast majority of heroes and villains have no idea who she is.
If they know her at all, it's probably as, "That girl in the purple that Cass is always hanging out with" or "Robin's ex-girlfriend who faked her death that one time" or maybe even as, "There was a girl Robin at some point right? I feel like I heard that somewhere," particularly since there was a big media shake-up after War Games. Heck, they might even know her as, "Cluemaster's daughter; she runs with the Bats, yeah? Heh, sucks to be Arthur" since he's actually gotten around more than her just by virtue of being on the Suicide Squad.
But as Spoiler, as Batgirl, as a hero? Basically unknown outside of Gotham. She's always been too much of a supporting character to develop those kinds of connections.

An Instructional Guide on How To Properly Tickle a Donatello
Summary: When asked for the best way to tickle his brother without taking things too far, Leo decides to take a more hands-on approach to teaching April.
Author's note: This fic is based off of this anonymous prompt. I loved this prompt so so much and I hope I did it justice. Thank you, anon, for this lovely idea!
Warnings: This fic involves tickling, so please don't proceed if that's not your thing!
Word count: 1,845
"What? You gotta be pulling my leg, Leo," April said, lounging on Leo's bed. Leo sat on the ground by the bed, surrounded by long-forgotten comic books that he had been showing off. Though the moments he spent with April one-on-one were few and far between, he enjoyed her company. She was someone that he could tell any secret to.
Even if it wasn't necessarily his own secrets to tell.
"No no, I'm serious! If you do it the right way, Donnie's a fan."
April gave him a look of extreme doubt, sitting up and swinging her legs over the edge of the bed. "But I thought he didn't like having people all over him?"
"Correct, but there are exceptions to everything, April."
"Like what?"
Leo stacked the comics into wobbly towers on the ground and pushed them off to the side. "Like, he doesn't like to be touched if he's had a bad day, or if he's working in his lab—but sometimes, you can get away with that, especially if you're Mikey," Leo added sourly. He rambled on for quite some time about the intricate, unspoken laws of coexisting with his brainy twin. It was so second nature to him at this point, he could write a book on the topic.
"This is all really confusing," April said finally. "It sounds like just not tickling Donnie is the safest move."
"Psh! Donnie loves it," Leo said dismissively, pointing to April with a finger-gun, "Especially from me, because I know how to do it the right way."
Amused, April pressed the matter, using air-quotes as she spoke. "And how, exactly, is the 'right way' to get him?"
Oh, this was going to be so fun.
"Okay April, class is in session!" Leo stood up suddenly, adjusting his non-existent glasses and pointing at his non-existent blackboard. "Today's lesson: how to properly, and safely, tickle a Donatello. Truly, this information has taken years of careful observation to collect. Lucky for you, I just so happen to be the expert."
April rolled her eyes at her friend in blue, but humored him nonetheless. "I'm honored to learn from the best."
"Okay, hang on, I have a better idea. This is more of a hands-on lesson, I believe. DONNIE!" he yelled, much louder than necessary. It wasn't long before Donnie peered his head into Leo's room, giving April a smile before he immediately scowled at Leo.
"What do you need with me, Nardo?"
It was endearing, truly, how Donnie pretended to hate him, but he still showed up every time Leo called for him. Leo grabbed his twin by the shoulders, directing him to sit down on the ground, gesturing for April to join them. "Now April, to make sure that he's in the proper mood for this, you can do a few things—"
"Wha-What are you two doing? What's going on?" Donnie asked, suddenly very aware of the fact that he was outnumbered and without his protective battle shell. He had taken it off for a moment to work on a simple repair, thinking nothing of leaving it in his lab when Leo called for him.
"I'm teaching April the intricacies of how to tickle you, now hush," Leo said nonchalantly, though he tightened his grip on Donnie's shoulders to prevent him from going anywhere.
Donnie's face instantly dusted pink, and he gave Leo's hands a halfhearted swat. "Why me? Why is it always me?"
"Because you lo-hove it, of course," Leo said, relishing in Donnie's panicked stammers of disagreement. Though he was adamant that Leo was incorrect, his stern face grew several shades darker.
"Teach her how to tickle yourself, Nardo, I don't have time for this nonsense."
April smirked, "I already know how to do that. And besides, Donnie, I want to learn!"
Leo beamed at April playing along with his fun. He cherished the sheepish look on Donnie's face as he realized that this lesson was going to happen, no matter what. Leo continued on, "Now, you can straight up ask him if he's okay with it, but he'll never answer that question honestly. Or with words, for that matter. He may also ignore you completely. Example: Donnie, can I tickle you?"
Donnie pulled his legs in close and buried his face in his knees, trying to will the blush off of his face. Despite his mortification, he still spoke in an even, monotonous voice. "I can't believe you are doing this to me."
Leo looked to April and gave a shrug. "So when that doesn't work, you just do this..." He brought his hand close to the side of Donnie's shell. The sudden movement caught Donnie's eye and made him burst into uncontrollable giggles, grabbing Leo's wrist quickly. "Now, the key thing to pay attention to is whether or not he pushes you away. In this case, he's not pushing me away, just holding me back. This is an invitation!"
"Leheheo noho, wahait!"
April listened intently to Leo, giggling at her friend's plight. "Donnie, be quiet, I'm trying to listen," she said over Donnie's bubbly giggles.
Leo was over the moon at this chance to bring his pompous twin down a few notches. Besides, he always said that Donnie needed to smile more.
"Yeah Donnie, don't be rude," he said, bringing his hand back up to wag a disappointed finger in Donnie's face, ”Now, while it's important to know the signs of approval, it's equally as important to know when enough is enough. The safest way to ensure you don't cross a line is to stop when he says 'mercy.' That's the word Raph always had us use so he didn't accidentally go too far.
"If you continue after the 'mercy point,' he just goes all silent and wheezy. And we don't want that, do we, Don?"
"Shuhut up, Nardo!"
At this point, it was clear to all three that this lesson was more about messing with Donnie than actually teaching anything.
"But Leo, even if he gives me permission, I still don't know how to!" said April, playing up her curiosity to further embarrass Donnie. And god, did it succeed.
"I'm glad you said so, April," Leo said, "The first step to tickling a Donatello is to get him on edge. The best methods would have to be to do this—" he brought his wiggling fingers close to Donnie's stomach to demonstrate, being sure not to touch him. Donnie was thrown back into uncontrollable giggles, trying to curl into a protective ball, "—or you can get in his head."
"In his head?"
"Nohohoho, stay out of my hehead, both ohof you!" Donnie twisted and turned as much as Leo's grip on him would allow.
Leo smirked at April and mouthed: watch this. "DonTon, I'm gonna tickle you soooo bad," he said in his most sickly-sweet tone, earning a deeper blush from his antsy brother, "And you can't do anything about it, Donnie. All you can do is laugh and beg for mercy."
"Leheo, quihit—"
"I'm coming for you, Dee. And I'm gonna tell April aaall of your weaknesses." The more Leo teased, the more desperate Donnie's giggling grew. He tried to twist away from Leo's twitching fingers, but it was clear that he wasn't actually trying to go too far. It was one of Leo's favorite parts of tickling Donnie.
"Ohohokay, OHOKAY, Leoho plehehease!" Donnie tried to reason with him. Leo caught Donnie glancing at April occasionally, no doubt feeling more and more self-conscious as Leo methodically took him apart in front of an audience.
"Please what, bro-bro?"
Donnie didn't respond. Another teachable moment.
"This is the other thing with Donnie—even if he wants you to tickle him, he can't say it when he's in this position. It's the strangest thing. I always try to get him to say it because it makes him blush harder, but that's optional."
"D-Dohohon't!"
April nodded, now miming writing notes on a notepad. "And then what?"
"Now, the main event," Leo said, pulling Donnie in closer and skittering his fingers over Donnie's sides. Donnie, already breathless from everything that led up to this point, couldn't hold back for a second before exploding into more frantic, high-pitched giggles. "So this is a good spot for Donnie. He also likes it right here," Leo moved his hands to Donnie's stomach, basking in the louder laughter that spot got. "He's the worst under his arms and on his shell, but he's really ticklish anywhere. He's the most ticklish person I know."
"Hehe's lying! He's a liahahar!"
"I am not a liar! See—" Leo struggled with his giggling brother, swinging Donnie's left arm around his shoulders and holding it there. Leo used his free hand to poke at Donnie's exposed armpit and skitter his fingers in the hollow.
Donnie would later claim that it was a mere call for help, but he shrieked at Leo's attack, swatting at him with his free hand. Leo couldn't help cracking up at his brother's dramatic reactions.
"Wow! I gotta try that!" April yelled over Donnie's laughter.
Leo moved his hand to trace his brother's soft-shell, earning more hilarious laughter. "Oh please do! He's a squirmer! You might find more success pinning him down, but this allows you to get at his shell as well. Get his other arm!"
"On it!" April said, wrestling to pry Donnie's free arm away from his side.
"Nohoho AHAPRIL! Plehehease!"
She ignored him and did as Leo had done, wrapping Donnie's other arm around her shoulder and holding it there. She placed precise pokes from Donnie's side up to his armpit, before deciding to stay in that ultra-sensitive spot with wiggling fingers. Leo returned to scratching his fingers under Donnie's other arm, and that was it. Donnie was lost.
Leo laughed along with April as Donnie completely fell apart, accepting his fate. Leo loved seeing his serious brother look so happy. He had the world's most endearing smile and the most infectious laugh. Sure, he would make fun of the way Donnie screams before dissolving into hilarious laughter, but he couldn't deny that it was one of the best laughs out there.
It wasn't long before Donnie was breathlessly calling for mercy, which Leo and April instantly provided. The giggly turtle rested against Leo's side and sucked in as much oxygen as he could.
"This concludes today's lesson. April, any questions?" Leo asked innocently, wincing as Donnie elbowed him in the side.
"Nope! Thank you for passing on your brotherly wisdom to me," April gave Leo a big thumbs up.
"And DonTon, any closing thoughts?"
Donnie gave Leo a look of extreme exasperation, but Leo could see the tiniest hint of a smile when Donnie thought he wasn't looking. "I will fill your life with such severe misery—"
"I'm sure you will, weirdo," Leo said, pushing Donnie over to stand up and take a dramatic bow as April clapped, "Thank you, thank you." He was positive that Donnie was plotting revenge at that very moment, but it was still worth it.

hey i saw your answer to the ask about alfred making damian robin in battle for the cowl. while i 100% agree that is not what happened in bftc, outside of that comic i think alfred has a lot more involvement. im not sure if this is a post-crisis exclusive blog, but in secret origins (2014) #4 we see alfred's feelings on damian and his conclusion that damian would listen to no one else except his father. so alfred forges a letter from bruce that asks damian to be robin. the end of the comic shows that dick knows alfred forged that letter but imo leaves it pretty open-ended as far as dick's decision. if you ask me, i think dick talked to alfred about damian being his robin or alfred picked up that things were going to way and decided to pull this to make that transition easier for everyone. sorry is this is weirdly nitpicky or contrarian im just really a sucker for alfred and damian's relationship.
[referencing this response on how the transition from Tim to Damian as Robin was handled]
Preface: I am not a post-Crisis universe exclusive blog (far from it), but since 1) the New 52 era's attempts at dealing with the Batfamily are a mess and a pain to deal with for a variety of reasons, and 2) the post-Crisis universe was and remains the definitive interpretation for most of the Batfamily's history and the basis for their interactions with each other, it's what I tend to default to when writing meta...especially in cases where the events under discussion originally happened in post-Crisis continuity. The exceptions to that tend to be characters introduced post-Flashpoint (ex: Duke), who have no previous continuity bogging them down, and characters who have had the majority of their stories and development take place post-Flashpoint (ex: Damian).
That being said, while I am aware that Secret Origins (2014) and particularly that story exists and have read it, I tend to default to ignoring it for a few reasons:
One, it's a story whose events make little sense within either post-Crisis continuity or post-Flashpoint continuity as they otherwise exist; minimally, the timeline doesn't match up in either case.
More specifically for the purposes of writing a meta about the transfer of the Robin mantle from Tim to Damian, it rewrites Damian into the pre-Reborn era Batfamily very awkwardly by pretending he was always there. It shows a League clothes-clad Damian taking on Victor Zsasz and Professor Pyg (which he did not do until he was already Dick's Robin) while pretending that Bruce had time to try and connect with him before he "died" (which, he didn't; Damian appears in two stories prior to Battle for the Cowl—Batman & Son and Resurrection of Ra's al Ghul—and his interactions with Bruce are fairly minimal in Resurrection).
It is a clumsy attempt to integrate Damian into the pre-Batman R.I.P timeline that ignores all of the ways in which Damian's early relationships with his father and the rest of the Batfam (particularly Dick and Tim) are directly informed by the fact that he wasn't there during that time period:
Tumblr media
[Alfred, Dick, and Tim watch The Magnificent Seven in Wayne Manor in the immediate aftermath of Bruce's death. Damian is not present, as he was still living with Talia. An empty chair between Dick and Tim marks Bruce's usual 'movie night' seat] -Nightwing #151 (2009)
I thus find it very unhelpful to use in any capacity when discussing and analyzing interactions between those characters in the aftermath of Bruce's death.
Two, while I have no love for Battle for the Cowl, Tomasi effectively ignoring it completely beyond "Gotham was in chaos following Bruce's death" doesn't sit right with me either, especially since it was referenced (even obliquely) in several other New 52-era books.
Three, I love Alfred and Damian's relationship. I think it's one of Damian's most important relationships and we should talk more about it. But I also love Alfred and Dick's relationship, so I'm not particularly enamored with a reimagining where Alfred is the one who orchestrates Damian's takeover of the Robin mantle largely unilaterally. That's not his call to make beyond a suggestion to Dick that it might be good for him. I also think it takes a lot of agency away from Dick in the one transfer of his mantle that he canonically actually has control over and undermines a big aspect of Dick and Damian's relationship development to take those decisions out of Dick's hands and give them to "Bruce."
Four, and probably most importantly: that story is never referenced before or after that issue. That origin for Damian is long gone. Its portrayal of his childhood was revamped in Robin: Son of Batman. Its reconceptualization of Damian's entrance into the Batfamily has not been acknowledged since. DC's larger refusal to acknowledge Dick and Damian's time as Batman and Robin beyond subtle references ended during the Rebirth era. New 52!Tim quite literally wasn't Tim Drake and was only restored to being himself again post-Rebirth, so 99% of the interactions between Tim and Damian from 2011-2016 have been effectively discarded as non-canon. And whenever Damian becoming Robin is referenced after Secret Origins #4, it is nearly always referenced as Dick choosing him as Robin rather than him becoming Robin "at his father's request." So there's little incentive for me to acknowledge it given that it generally appears to not be canon beyond the scope of the New 52 era of post-Flashpoint continuity.
I'm sorry that this probably isn't the answer you wanted to read, but I hope this gives you a better idea of why I specifically choose to stick to post-Crisis and post-Rebirth continuities when discussing the transfer of the Robin mantle from Tim to Damian.

Comparing Edd to Eddy, which of the two you would say gone through the worst shit throughout the show?
(regarding both their homelifes AND all the bad stuff across the episodes too).
putting this under the cut cuz it gets pretty miserable lmao
also, i'm including ed.
as far as the canon of the show and movie i'll go with eddy obviously because of the whole bro thing, and bc he's most often the target of everyone's rage. at least with ed and edd, there seems to be a baseline of decency and occasional kindness from the other kids. as soon as eddy rears his square head, everyone's groaning and patting at their pockets. nazz and rolf are okay towards him a couple times i guess, but it ends in disaster nonetheless.
still going strictly by canon events i'd say edd is next. he's so damn stressed the entire time that it stresses ME out. eddy and ed put him through a lot both mentally and physically. he's so frail 😭 he can't handle all that.
ending with ed just cuz he comes off as impervious to any physical harm, and blocks a lot of the mental stuff as a defense mechanism. he does whatever he can to stay in his happy place and he's gotten really good at it. not saying he doesn't go through anything or that he isn't affected, he's just the least affected of the three.
we don't have a ton to go off of in terms of their home life, which is totally fine by me. preferable in fact. as a disclaimer, it's generally shitty to compare trauma, but they're cartoon characters so i'll compare their *fictional* trauma lmao. all just my opinion etc., etc.
during the run of the show, my opinion is that ed has it the worst at home. i imagine that he's made to feel very much like the red headed step-child. it's his parents and sarah teaming up against him, blaming him for all their problems. belittling, degrading and and if he's lucky, ignoring him. his dad really just reacts to what his wife and daughter tell him, but he reacts just the same. ed is cast to the basement and they all try really really hard to pretend that he doesn't exist. maybe his dad takes pity on him from time to time and buys him a comic or a movie behind his wife's back. or maybe he doesn't. he certainly doesn't want to ruffle feathers and make himself more miserable than he already is. come on, he just got off work. and once again, ed checks out to survive. i think there would be a point where ed and edd kinda look at each other and are like "what the fuck" in response to seeing ed's treatment first hand. we kind of get something close to that in the show when ed tells them they literally took his stairs.
edd is next i guess cuz he's got such a terrible wake up call in his future. realizing that no dude, it's not even slightly normal to communicate with your parents strictly via sticky note. it's not normal for a kid to be expected to take care of every single chore and task around the house. and all the books, all the academic achievements, all the folded socks in the world aren't gonna make them love you. then dealing with his (i always use this word) DEBILITATING anxiety on top of all that? i've said it before but he's straight up burnt out by the end of the show at age 12/13.
edd by the start of bps:
Tumblr media
i put eddy last bc at least during the show his home life seems relatively normal. his mom is very obviously doting and his dad is okay as long as he keeps that wrist tight. with bro gone, the immediate threat is neutralized, and he's in no hurry to unpack anything going on internally. much like the other two, there's a major realization and subsequent struggle in his future. but he's slightly more deluded than edd and is actually the last of the three to accept that his childhood was fucked up. even after bps, he kinda knows, but he's incapable of accepting that he was a victim. bruises heal, what's the big deal? bro didn't have to do all that in front of everyone though, geez. his self worth is so low that he doesn't believe his experiences can be considered abuse. he's the one that pissed his brother off, after all. and so on and so forth. anywho, if bro still lived in the house i'd probably put him at the top of the list cuz like... not to get too dark here but idk man "accidents" happen and who knows if bro could've been stopped if no one was around. my personal hc as to why bro left or was forced to leave is that there was a really close call.
so yeah they all have fucked up home lives and day to day lives. they're so miserable 🥺 yes i will compound it 🥹

i am here to cause violence and get you discourse'd. so questions 9, 10, and 13 for the violence ask game, let's start strong lol
Yippee, violence!!!
9. Worst part of canon
whatever the fuck Heart of Surging Flame was. I think I've never cringed so hard at an event. if I keep pretending that it doesn't exist, it will stop existing.
10. Worst part of fanon
reddit users
listen I don't know how to describe this. extremely horny people who will waifufy any female character and reduce her not even to a trait, but to just a walking pair of boobs. I don't mind people having waifus or doing self shipping, don't get me wrong! but I'm talking like. I've seriously seen comics or art of characters like Saria or Kal'tsit going full on tsundere waifu mode "i-it's not that I love you, b-baka dokutah..!!" like how can you fail a character at this point. thank god these people are absent from Tumblr but open Reddit for a bit and count to ten while scrolling, chances are you will end up on some mommy posting or horny art in the spawn of these ten seconds. AND I'm not even gonna talk about characters who are canonically minors because holy fuck
it's not something I consider really bad, like I can easily ignore it, but it emplifies the fact that Arknights is a gacha and really brings shame to me as a fan because I can't talk about how I like a gacha game without being mistaken with these people
13. Worst blorbification
imma ban this question i still dont understand it /j
ok with some comments and seeing other people reply to it I got to understand kinda what it means? so I'll say mmm Exusiai, perhaps. I'm not placed to be Exusiai's Strongest Warrior because honestly, I was in the same bag as the blorboficators until last week. but huge shout-out to @/annierosaart for making me realize how incredibly fucked up Exusiai is. the fanon (and me included for a huge part) shows Exusiai as quite a happy lived go lucky girl who thinks about party and apple pies. which is also pretty much what I understood of her character too when I followed the events she's in and looked at her files! so I can't blame them. but by the Law when you start reading between the lines and put more thoughts into it, her character is extremely sad. for exemple the fact that Everyone in Laterano seems to straight up hate her, that her school celebrated it when she was gone, that rumors about her are so wide spraid that even Archetto is scared of her?? what the fuck girl. to be considered a danger by LATERANO is an achievement that deserves duscussion and a therapist
and also the implication that if Mostima refuses to tell her about Andoian is not only because she's not allowed to, but also because Exusiai would be ready to go hunt this man to hell. and one extremely angry and full of revenge red haired girl is enough, let's not add another one

🔥 Spider-Man (Miles Morales)
Really needs more interesting comics that can keep up with his mass media momentum if that momentum is to be carried forward. Miles had the mother of all breakthroughs and might be objectively the greatest character success story of the past decade of superhero media no matter how many rightwingers throw tantrums pretending otherwise, and it fills my heart with joy everytime I see Miles notebooks/school supplies front and center everytime I go to the stationery or see Miles cosplayers and costumes everywhere, but Miles did have a rough spot for the first 7 or so years of his existence. He wasn't unpopular by any means but he was a thing people really were onboard with being a thing, that wasn't actually a thing, in part because nobody wanted to take a risk with handling him and also in part because the comics didn't know what to do with him, and kinda still don't seem to grasp it.
Ahmed did good work up to a point, I liked the idea of the Champions and him being besties with Kamala, I'm super on board with the shonen fight he's having with the Hobgoblin right now, but if he's going to keep being as big of a deal as he is right now, he doesn't just deserve better, but he needs better. He needs comics that are more interesting, and this doesn't even mean he needs perfect or great comics 24/7, not in the slightest, but he needs to be Interesting, doing Interesting Things or having Interesting Things happen to him. His comics can't just be a thing that exists just because they have to, even if, and especially if, they only exist for mass media to iron out the kinks and fix them or make them popular. The geese who are laying the golden eggs still need to eat. The comics need to provide material to be ripped from. Miles needs more material to pull from that'll stick around after Spiderverse and the games had their moment.
I love his game and obviously I love Miles in it but his supporting cast in those games is waay too nice. That's an issue with the other non-villain characters in Peter's cast too but Miles' in particular are just way too perfect and correct and sympathetic, they're all in on the secret and they're all on board with it and they're all pleasant people and involved activists and making start-ups or inventing things and it's just grating, especially in Uncle Aaron's case. I do think Miles might suffer a bit in the game and comics from the fact that he's not allowed to be singularly disliked or controversial or surrounded by challenging or even just plain bad people as supporting characters the way Peter can be, the Spiderverse movies very much exempt of course but again, you can't rip those 1-to-1.
I'm muting the fuck out of Danika Hart when I get to play Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man should not have this kind of blatant pro-Spidey media in-universe.

I'm loving the character design of idletry so I have a question about it. Will idletry canonically take place in the same universe as your other comics? Or would the premise of idletry make that complicated?
I considered it for a while. It's a different universe with different canon. Magic doesn't exist in those comics. They're essentially different games with different rules that an audience agrees to entertain while engaging with the work.
I think Drop-Out, Fresh Meat, and Catharsis ask you to leave your incredulity at the door and pretend this is reality instead for a while in exchange for putting a certain amount of effort into making it a believable world; the canon the trouple is placed in asks you to leave your apprehension at the door in exchange for taking care to not make scenes uncomfortable or mean-spirited. Idletry is closer to asking you to leave your honor at the door; it doesn't care if you think the story is "real" or if you feel like what's happening in the story is good (in fact, it reminds you that it's neither of those things directly, a lot), and it offers a story which does something interesting by neither doing what it thinks you want to see nor going out of its way to do something to offend you on purpose.
Combining any of these continuities would make every component involved worse because their goals and rules directly contradict one another. So, I wouldn't say that they make it complicated -- they just make it worse.

What is your take on Azula's relationship with Zuko? There's a lot of talk about her rivalry with him, but I find it more intriguing to talk about their other facets, like the implication that Azula deep down actually cares about her brother.
There's this odd phenomenon that's been happening in what I'll call ATLA fandom 2.0 (the post-netflix revival) where it seems like you have to pick a side- Zuko or Azula. If you stan one, you can't stan the other. And I haven't cared for that since, frankly, those two (alongside best girl Katara) are easily my favorite characters. So I'm not all that interested in "picking sides" and I'm not all that interested in them as rivals either. That said, it's important to note that their position in opposition to each other is important to the story the show is telling.
Azula is a character in her own right, but she's also a narrative device. As an antagonist, Azula is Zuko's most direct foil. She's his dark mirror, his evil twin (narratively speaking.) So when she's on top of the world, he's hit rock bottom, and vice versa. She represents the worst of the Fire Nation and is everything he could become if he were to give into his worst instincts (again, this is all speaking symbolically, their personalities are quite different). But because of this, she had to fall for him to rise. It's very effective storytelling within the three seasons of the show. Unfortunately that meant there wasn't much room within those three seasons to showcase any more nuance in their relationship.
I'm always torn on this decision by the showrunners, because on the one hand, it's a huge part of why Zuko's story arc is as effective as it is. And all my biases aside, Zuko's arc is very effective and, for a children's show released in 2005, pretty smartly written. It gets a bit overblown by the fandom, it's a pretty basic redemption arc at the end of the day, but it's still a well executed one and I think it's dishonest to pretend it isn't. On the other hand, it came at the cost of actually developing the relationship between Azula and Zuko and, arguably, of Azula's character as a whole. She isn't allowed to have her own arc independent of Zuko because she really only exists (from a writing standpoint) to be that dark mirror. She's not Aang et al's main antagonist. She's Zuko's. She doesn't really get to do much outside that role.
All that said I do think it goes without saying that Azula cares for Zuko. I think it also goes without saying that Zuko cares for Azula too, but he's ironically worse at expressing it (within the main series at least). Because of the way the show was written, however, none of this can be explored except in supplemental material or fanworks. And supplemental material has been...lacking, I think, in that department.
There's some awesome fanworks out there that explore their dynamic, though. I really do encourage people to go back into the archives and find stuff written years ago because stuff written at the time the show was airing/right when it ended are some of the best. The show hadn't yet been lionized as much and fandom opinions of the characters hadn't yet crystallized into what they are now (and also the comics and lok didn't exist so no one had to deal with that.)

I've seen you're taking creepypasta requests ? I really like your Zalgo's concept ! so..
can you drop some of your headcanons about him?? I'm really interested!!
stay safe!
Zalgo headcannons!
hihihihi i promise i saw you send this in a few hours after you asked this and i truly didnt mean to push writing this off for so long ive just been going through it (2 new interests have been kicking my ass for the past 7 or so weeks) but we're back !!
CAUTION these hcs are heavily centered around my concept!! i wasnt totally sure if you wanted these as romantic, so i decided to go down a middle road and just make it how interacting with the guy would probably go down + other ideas!! warning this is a lot of scattered rambling because my brain is all over the place and its 7am
Tumblr media
the main thing that my take on zalgo and the main fandom interpretation have in common is the fat that theyre both powerful entities capable of causing mass destruction and chaos
however my zalgo exists more so as a... weird half concept half tangible entity if that makes sense? like he indirectly interacts with the world around him instead of going out and wrecking things himself; a close comparison i can think of is mother mabuka from fran bow but even then it seems she has more direct influence in that universe compared to zalgo... or maybe my interpretation of her is all whack too but eh
exists everywhere and nowhere at once, in my au he's responsible for the creation of the other creepypasta characters. for demon characters like slenderman or the rake he hand crafted them himself to cause torment. for characters like ben or eyeless jack he plants the seed to cause them to become what they were. for ben he allowed him to come back as an angry ghost, and for eyeless jack he made the curse that eventually infects the guy (although jack was just the unlucky host, zalgo had no specific target)
and keeping true to the original zalgo comic stuff, he can corrupt media in anyway he wishes, and perhaps implant subliminal messages or 'viruses' to infect more people? that second part is mostly a concept idea but i vibe with it
so how does one interact with a being that doesn't totally exist?
well
you dont
at least you cant initiate it; no if zalgo wants to be perceived by you he'll come to you, typically if you can offer something to him (usually the ability to cause issues for others, ie general creepypasta character criteria)
injecting this really quick but admin is really into the concept of certain characters/entities being just a simple part of nature, zalgo falls under this idea. he just exists because of the laws of the universe
is he capable of forming bonds? sure he definitely has some sort of favoritism towards certain creatures thanks to how effective they are, but like, what about emotional bonds?
probably not, if im being honest; like sure he can check in on you more often than his other agents of chaos, but that doesn't necessarily mean hes your friend
but lets pretend you somehow made friends with the omnipresent and almost omniscient birthplace of wrath and doom:
you cant touch him but he can touch you, kinda. it kinda feel like being wrapped around with a huge freeing cold and immensely heavy blanket when he decides to grace you with his presence
you know how when in adventure time, the lich makes the screen go dark (ex. the fall meme) i feel like itd be something like that
though ive never watched adventure time/never got too far into it SOBS i plan on changing that i promise
oh he is so so so clingy and he so truly hates your mortality
even in death he wont let you go, he'll probably forcefully bring you back, and by extension twisting you into something you weren't before
like this dude is genuinely not someone you want to fuck around with
even if you dont end up dying hes probably going to change you in some way at some point
on a lighter note hes the type to tear the world apart for you, both in the "i care about you as much as a creature like me can" and a "if you ever leave me im going to find you, i already know where you are because i have eyes everywhere"
like i dont like writing stuff that can dip into yandere territory but like. zalgo would do that kind of shit
bonus hcs, he doesnt really care how people perceive him.. because they cant, and even if he allows it he still doesnt care. wanna use any pronouns for him? he doesnt give a damn. see him as a god? as a devil? he doesnt care. truly could not give a shit what you think, he is unbothered
i feel my hcs for him have shifted a bit since i last brought him up in a post but i think
out of all the creepypastas, zalgo is the one i have with the most changing hcs
esp since in this au hes like. the reason everyone exists as they are, and why everything is going on; he is literally the reason all the bad things happened to everyone and hes responsible for the monster-type characters existence
okay thats all i apologize again if this is a mess i simply got. silly and im running off two hours of sleep and im scratching my brain trying to remember my ideas since i havent really thought of zalgo in 2 months (thanks to other brainrots SOBS)

Binged through Scott Pilgrim Takes Off the other night. What an interesting way for an artist to return after thirteen or so years to build on their story. Flipping the premise and focusing on what the original comic neglected is brilliant for a stealth spin-off. I love it. It's also nice that it doesn't intrude on the comic's space 'cause naturally what that original story focused on gets neglected here. I've seen some fans upset by this, and while I understand, I vibe with what this series is going for too much to agree. If I want to revisit that absent content/depth, I'll just reread the original.
Ramona's a brilliant protagonist. I don't remember caring too much about her in the original--beyond being a likable impetus for the action/story. In love her now. Just like me fr (please pretend I'm that cute and charismatic I'll give you a dollar). I had a goofy grin on my when it became obvious in the third episode that this was a journey to face her past and bury a literal league of evil hatchets. It helps that said journey is accompanied by a host of gorgeous action set pieces, but the writing and direction are just as good.
I'd have more intelligent things to say if I wasn't coasting on "read the comic back in college" as a basis for analysis lol. I enjoyed it then, but I think I might like it even more with this to contrast/compliment it. It's cool this exists. It's neat. Highly recommend.

📞 a character others dislike but you don’t?
♠️ favorite protagonist?
🕷️a character you feel is underrated?
📞 - a character others dislike but you don't?
Elise has gained more appreciation over time, but you still get people who think she's to blame for everything wrong with '06. She was a decent if underdeveloped character who simply wasn't used in the story that well, and anyone who thinks turning her into a Not-Sally is the only way to fix her isn't trying.
There's also Zor and Marine, both of whom I will always defend. Isn't it wild how I can barely remember anything from The End's three minute tough guy Reddit copypasta, yet everything Zor says is solid gold... shout out to IDW for missing the point and making him an unironic tryhard like every other villain in the comic. As for Marine, people act as though her character development never happened, which isn't helped by Flynn being one of those very people, and I don't understand why they give her flak for her stereotypical accent, yet make no such complaints about Bunnie.
For a couple of non-Sonic examples: King Sombra kind of went through the same arc as Elise in retrospect. As in, nowadays he has more open fans, but back when he made his debut, he received a disproportionate amount of flak for being a mostly silent villain, and the way he was used. I personally appreciated what they were going for with him, mainly cause of how they conveyed his Crazy Prepared defenses and the like, and honestly, by the time FiM concluded, I think he ended up better off than certain other villains lmao.
And of course, Moneybags. Not counting the first game (cause he didn't exist yet), I don't consider it a true Spyro experience if Winnie the Shit doesn't pop up in increasingly improbable locations to make deals in exchange for, *ahem*, a small fee. He also has some of the best lines. ("What are you going to do, sue me?")
♠️ - favourite protagonist?
Gex is unironically a better written character than everyone in Frontiers and IDW put together. This realisation makes me want to drink tap water at Jerry Garcia's.
Tails has always been my main bro out of the Sonic good guys, cause of how smart he is and how much he wants to help. :D It's also why I'm vocal about how much I despise it when fans double down on reducing the franchise to Just Furry DBZ due to super forms and whatnot, since it means Tails and other characters not named Sonic/Shadow/Silver are guaranteed to be treated even more like they're not good for anything meaningful. >:|
Then there's Spyro of course, which I know will be considered ironic to some given my complex feelings on Sonic, but truth be told, Spyro isn't really that similar to Sonic beyond some snark. He does admittedly act like a dude with tude in the first game, but it's clear that he's younger in that one. From the second game onward, where he's slightly older, he's considerably more chill... at least compared to Bubsy and many others from the 90's. And speaking of, despite his dialogue consisting entirely of WOAH, I respect Crash as well, since it was the bandicoot that got little me into the world of video games.
And many things change, but my fondness for Fluttershy will never die. Just as I have a preference for funny robot-loving villains who nonetheless remain a legit serious threat instead of being a joke, I have another preference for kindhearted quiet characters... which is why I also enjoy Trip... and Tikal... look, we all have our types, I'm sure you can sympathise. ;P
🕷️ - a character you feel is underrated?
The Hard-Boiled Heavies have mostly been pushed aside since Mania came out (aside from that one IDW story, but that's not a blessing), and it makes me madder than YouTubers who pretend they're mad because there are villains with dialogue who have less personality than these guys. They're so much fun, and despite all of them having the same Egg Robo template, their designs remain distinct from each other, even in silhouette form.
I also took to Ariem early on. Like the Heavies, "underrated" refers to general lack of fandom buzz compared to other characters, since although she appears to be quite liked, the acknowledgement given to her is somewhat limited due to her being stuck in an Android-only game for the time being. Some people also have an obsession with comparing her unfavourably to either Sage or Lanolin, for reasons I can probably guess in both cases. Me? I love her design, and her interactions with Cream and Knuckles are cute. :> I know it's not likely, but I hope she appears elsewhere so that she can be brought to more fans' attention... provided she doesn't get IDW'd.
Finally, a more complicated example: Metal Sonic. Now yes, he's very popular and beloved, and remains so to this day, but during the last couple of years, I feel I've been seeing two growing sides in the community when it pertains to him: the side who loves Neo Metal Sonic, and believe he's only a threat in that form like Flynn apparently believes (given how he often turns regular Metal into a jobber), and the side who consider him lame or essentially worthless because of his minimal characterization compared to others. He might not say much, and he might be a hedgehog-shaped tool of Eggman's ambition rather than a complete person of his own, but I believe there's a lot you can do with Metal that wouldn't require turning him into Usurper the Elf Shoes. OVA Metal ain't S-tier for nothing.

Hi :D i loved your sticks and stones work! Amazing! Anyways id been going back through the robin 1993 and other era-related comics and realized what was bugging me about some fanon characterization of steph being the 'popular social one'. They get her's and tim's social life completely swapped. Steph isn't a team player and the one willing to work with everyone. Could just be because Steph's a supporting member but I realized she focused mostly on crime fighting and was much more of a loner. She didn't do team ups pretty much till she was Batgirl. Tim, however, had an active civilian social life and constantly teamed with other vigilantes. Idk if thats just my interpretation though. Anyways :)))
God yes! You are so right! That has frustrated me for years, especially in the recent canon when they've been having every teenager with a cape suddenly go "OMG haiiiii Stephanie :) :)" for no fucking reason when it makes ZERO sense! She's a weird loner who does not know any of these people!!
And that's doubly true when it comes to her civilian friends. Steph's civilian life as a whole is weirdly under-developed given how much attention she's gotten over the years, especially since she, y'know, had her own series. Yet they still couldn't be bothered to give her much of anything to work with. It's so frustrating.
Seriously, here is, I'm pretty sure, a full list of the friends Steph was shown having pre-Flashpoint who aren't members of the Bat-clan:
These two Black girls from Robin #61 who only exist so Stephanie can yell at them about how stupid their friend is for keeping her baby and how stupid they are for thinking it's cute of her to do that, and then later she talks about how dumb and immature they are compared to her, and they're never seen again.
Tumblr media
Her baby-daddy Dean, who's only shown once outside of Robin during the Cataclysm event, and then only shows up again 2 years after her pregnancy has been resolved so Stephanie can beat him up for no reason. (Seriously, this is the only page he's on before she kicks him in the nuts and knocks him around, he doesn't say or do anything else to her, she just wails on him for no reason)
Tumblr media
Two randos from the Robin/Spoiler Special who exist to make a plot happen by inviting her to a warehouse party that she drags Tim to and are never seen again. Their existence also makes no sense in Steph's personal timeline because she's been "dead" for a year and will be in college in like two months so why the hell would she enroll in high school again??
Effa, the little African girl also from the Robin/Spoiler Special, who only exists to make Stephanie look good by sucking up to her.
Jordanna Spence and Francisco Garcia from her Batgirl run, supposedly. In practice they're actually just two people that Stephanie doesn't like and whom she calls "friends" in quotation marks and has no idea why she keeps hanging around them, and yet she keeps bothering them because the plot said she's gotta.
Supergirl, as forced and one-sided as that relationship was.
Wendy Harris, even though "Proxy" only really lasted for a grand total of 5 issues.
A nameless rando she's shown playing ping-pong with, once.
...and that's it! That's all the friends Stephanie has ever had who weren't members of the same extended anti-crime family, and two of them are people she only met because of those connections.
Compare that to Tim, who has dozens of civilian friends and at least twice as many caped ones, and yeah, it's absolutely ridiculous that people pretend Stephanie is the """social""" one.
But y'know, she's the perky-happy blonde girl, so people just assume she must be popular. Because she's written almost entirely in stereotypes and cliches since 2008.
