◈ ══════════ ◈ ══════════ ◈ ══════════ ◈
You always had a poor relationship with your body and food, in life and in death. You went through periods of weight loss, gain, loss again—some seemingly never ending cycle that no amount of therapy has managed to halt.
Your mind was currently weighing the pros and cons of eating the slice of cake offered to you by Charlie. She was celebrating the arrival of a few new residents, the first to arrive since the last extermination. The news really helped the hotel garner some attention, that plus the fancy new renovation Lucifer himself helped with… needless to say, Charlie was thrilled. So, she threw a little party. You had been standing awkwardly near the doorway, trying to find an opportunity to slip away from the small party. But you doubted you could escape without your absence being noticed; there really weren't that many people here to begin with.
You had accepted the cake out of sheer politeness, but you now just held the plate loosely in your hands, chewing on the inside of your cheek as you thought. You’ve been feeling particularly… susceptible to the calories in food lately. You considered the fact that you hadn’t eaten much today—or, honestly, the whole week for that matter. It shouldn’t hurt to just have one slice of cake. Just this once.
But… still…
You frowned down at the cake. Picking up the plastic fork, you took a tiny chunk from it and lifted it to your lips. Your lips quivered as the food touched your tongue, and you felt sick as you chewed. You managed to swallow after an unnecessarily long few seconds of chewing, and you continued to just stare down at your plate. You didn’t think you’d be able to handle another bite.
Niffty had seen the sickly expression on your face, and loudly started throwing questions at you. Were you sick? Did you hate the party? Why didn’t you like the cake she made? Her loud voice was growing in volume, and catching the attention of a few other demons in the room. You tried various ways to shush her, attempting to answer her questions politely, but you felt your heart rate pick up at the obviously growing number of eyes.
“I’m not incredibly fond of sweets myself,” You heard that radio-afflicted voice pipe up from behind. You couldn’t help but jump at the unexpected presence, but you turned your head with a light smile. Alastor was looking curiously down at Niffty and you.
“Ah, yeah, the cake’s great, I just… don’t like dessert that much…” You lied. You actually really liked cake, but it had been a long time since you were actually able to enjoy it without feeling intensely guilty about it. The tiny demon made a fussy comment about how nobody appreciated her and all of her hard work, stomping away. Her mood didn’t last, though, immediately getting caught up in cleaning something you couldn’t even see.
You turned your head to thank Alastor, but you saw his smile drop slightly as he looked at you. The demon bent at the waist to lean down, his mouth near your ear and his usually boisterous voice quieted to a whisper. “Is everything alright, mon coeur?”
You felt your face heat up, both at the words he spoke and the proximity. You and Alastor had been quietly ‘official’ for quite a while now, but you weren’t sure if you’d ever get used to the small gestures of affection from the Radio Demon. It felt weird if you thought about it too long.
“I’m okay, just…” You weren’t sure how open you wanted to be about how you were feeling. Alastor knew about your poor body image and eating habits, but he truthfully never really knew how to go about comforting you. Plus, you felt as if your personal struggles were trivial to a literal Overlord of Hell. You didn’t want to bother him with your own shit.
“I’m fine,” You finally decided. You could tell Alastor knew you were lying, with that furrow of his eyebrows, but he stood up straight and didn’t push. You sighed and gently placed the plate of cake down on a small entryway table by the door you had been lurking near.
“I’ll get us out of here,” He declared with a wide smile, and he strode forward to where Charlie stood talking to the group of new guests. She knew Alastor was approaching due to the look of horror that slowly crossed the new demon’s faces. You couldn’t quite hear what they were saying, but it looked like she briefly scolded Alastor for being so damn intimidating for no reason.
They chatted for a moment, and you could hear the Radio Demon’s obnoxious laughter from across the room. He gestured to himself, then to you, to which Charlie looked in your direction. You shot her a small smile. She smiled back, nodded, and turned away to continue talking to the new residents—who all had been slowly inching away from Alastor. They looked incredibly relieved when he left the group.
He gave you a grin and wordlessly threaded his arm around yours, linking you at the elbow. You lifted your hand to give his upper arm an appreciative squeeze as you left the room. Your eyes lingered on the abandoned slice of cake as you walked away, feeling guilty in more ways than one.
Alastor had led you to your room, releasing your arm and leaning his body weight on his cane as he looked down at you. You glanced up at him, then back down, pursing your lips as you stared at anything else in the room.
“I hate when demons lie to me,” He said, eyes narrowed. Of course, you knew he wasn’t truly mad at you. Maybe frustrated. “What’s wrong.” It was more like a statement than a question. A demand.
You sat heavily down on the edge of your bed, fiddling with your fingers.
“I don’t know, Al,” You muttered. You hated this. “I just… You know how I get sometimes.” It somehow felt so silly, telling him about this.
Alastor had sat down next to you, his arm wrapped over your shoulder and a clawed hand rubbing up and down your forearm. You could tell his touch was light, awkward, unsure—but the gesture was appreciated nonetheless. While Alastor typically had no problem overstepping boundaries and shoving demons around purely to aggravate them, he obviously had no real idea how to be intimate and kind. But he tried for you.
He took his other hand and slipped it under your legs, swiftly lifting you and pulling you further up the bed. He leaned his body against the headboard, and dragged you over to lay your torso against his own.
“I don’t understand why you worry about all this, dear,” He mused, his fingers threading through your hair. His other hand graced past your stomach, which caused you to subconsciously flinch away. You felt his hand pause, but he didn’t mention it.
“I wish I didn’t have to,” You responded slowly, your cheek squished against his chest. “But I’ve dealt with this since I was alive. I feel like it’ll never get better.”
“Dearest, you have a whole eternity here,” He mused in response. He placed a finger under your chin and craned your head to meet his gaze. “You need to be strong to survive down here; to stay sane. A healthy body leads to a healthy mind.”
Of course Alastor was always thinking about strength and survival. He was an Overlord, after all. You didn’t respond to him, but you kept looking at him as he spoke. There was an odd look in his eyes as he talked.
“Plus,” He continues. His words were slow, and his mouth moved as if the words tasted unnatural on his tongue. This uncertainty that touched the Radio Demon’s voice was… rare, to say the least. “I want to see ma moitié happy. I am… incredibly devoted to you.”
Your ear pricked when you noticed the radio frequency in his voice completely dropped when he spoke the words. That look in his eyes—you finally recognized it as some odd sense of passion and endearment. An emotion that you could tell confused him, with the strain in his brow as he examined you. He meant the words he said, no matter how unnatural they felt leaving his mouth.
You rested your head back down on his chest. You knew this conversation wouldn’t “cure” you or anything, but you hoped that maybe you could think back on his words everytime your hands shook as you held a fork to your mouth. Of all demons in Hell, Alastor’s opinion was probably the most important to you, and you knew his devotion wouldn’t halt because of a few pounds; Alastor had to be deeply, deeply passionate about you to even let you lay on top of him like this.
You only hummed in response, and simply rested your head back against his chest. You hugged your arm tightly against him to try to convey that you appreciated his words, but you didn’t really know what to say.
“Would you join me for breakfast tomorrow?” Alastor asked after a few minutes of comfortable silence. “I know this wonderful place that I frequent for coffee…”
You thought for a moment, again weighing the pros and cons; a habit that you struggled to drop when it came to meals. Your mind was buzzing with thoughts of what kind of food might be there, and if you should ration out the meals for the rest of the day. But, you felt the thoughts melt away when Alastor’s hand rubbed a comforting circle against your cheek, and then trailing down towards your shoulder in a light squeeze.
“Okay,” you finally said. It wouldn’t hurt to have a decent meal for once. You pulled yourself up onto your elbows again to look at Alastor. “Sounds awesome.”
His smile twisted up, his teeth peeking through a small gap in his lips. His head inched forward, but then paused, and you could tell his mind was racing with various thoughts. You waited for him to decide and, after a few moments, he closed the gap and lightly pressed his lips against yours. It was brief, as most intimate contact with him was, but you enjoyed it while it lasted.
“You will always be my only weakness,” Alastor admitted tenderly. “The most captivating demon in all of Hell.”
You couldn’t stop the shy smile that spread across your face at his words. You sputtered out some awkward response, to which he simply hummed and smiled at. He closed his eyes and rested his head back against the headboard, his fingers still playing with your hair gently.
You followed suit, resting your head against his chest and closing your own eyes. You didn’t even realize how tired you were, too caught up in the rare intimacy with Alastor. You let your worries of breakfast fade away, choosing to just enjoy the warmth of his body so close to yours.

DESOLATION - S. RINTAROU
Tumblr media
a/n: i’m projecting and got carried away
warnings: self-deprecating thoughts, self-loathing and slight allusions to passive suicidal ideation (just to be safe, i don’t know if that’s actually the case). 2.3k of hurt/comfort (though i feel like it’s mostly hurt)
Tumblr media
slamming the door shut behind you, you let out a sigh, leaning your body against the wood. you closed your eyes, fists clenching on your sides.
nothing felt right anymore. the weeks passed by in an instant and yet every day seemed to be endless and monotonous. you woke up, did your work, came home and repeated that cycle the next day and the day after that.
you forgot how it was to wake up excited for the day and content with the path you were taking. how long has it been? now it was just a drag, a weight on your shoulders that kept pressing you down.
you couldn’t tell when or even how this started. everything was fine after all, wasn’t it? there was no trigger that caused all of this, no, and yet it would feel wrong to say that there was no reason in particular.
you just knew that you wanted it to be over.
taking your shoes off with a low hanging head, you sat down on the floor, trying to take deep breaths and calm yourself down.
it was okay, wasn’t it? you were finally home, you could recharge and just shut yourself off from the world. just let go of everything for a couple of hours before you would be thrown back into real life.
all you needed was a break.
“baby?” suna’s voice came from the living room, faint as it reached your ears. “you alright?”
you could hear his footsteps as he came closer to the hall, quickly jumping to your feet before he managed to poke his head out of the doorway.
you felt your chest getting warm as a smile plastered itself on your partner’s face as soon as he saw you.
you affirmed as you turned your back to him, slowly taking off your jacket and putting it away. you barely even paid attention to the questions he was asking you, simply answering them with only two to three words before diverting the attention back to him and asking him about his day.
suna didn’t have to be a genius to notice that something was off. you hadn’t seen how his smile was immediately wiped from his face as soon as you turned around after seeing him, shifting into a confused frown. he saw how you not just hung your jacket, but also opted to sort the hallway closet, acting like you were actually interested in the order of everything inside of it in a pathetic attempt to get him to go away.
but he wasn’t having any of it.
you didn’t notice how suna went quiet, studying your form and taking notice of your sluggish state.
he wasn’t an idiot. he had noticed how you got quieter with every passing day, losing more and more energy until you barely did anything outside of going to work. and he hated how you put on a smile whenever you thought he was looking, only to have it wiped away as soon as you turned around. and when he did approach you, you only shrugged him off, pinning your state on a stressful day at work or a bad night’s sleep.
“what’s wrong?” he finally asked, arms crossed and leaning against the doorframe.
“long day,” you only claimed “i’m gonna go wash up” immediately after you practically ran away, locking the bathroom door behind you and releasing your breath.
you thoughts raced as you washed your hands under the cold water. was it really fair to act this way? you practically dismissed your boyfriend, not even paying attention to anything he was saying just because you didn’t feel your best. and this wasn’t just a one time thing either, no, it happened countless times already, to the point of you not even remembering the last time you had an actual conversation with him that lasted longer than five minutes.
you were really terrible, huh?
you didn’t want to think like this, you knew that this spiral would just sent you down further with no way to escape. you could talk, communicate, somehow get your feelings across, apologize for being such a horrible partner, just anything. you just needed to get your mouth to open.
running the freezing water on your wrists to calm yourself you stared down at your bare skin.
you had to get out there and talk. you had to reach out. suna wasn’t going to turn you away or laugh at you, he’d be there for you just like he always was. he would probably scold you if he knew about the doubts you were having. scratch that, he most likely already knew, having spend so much time by your side, but decided to give you your space until you were ready to come to him, knowing how you could get when people pressured you.
he was so considerate. and you just stomped on that and tore him down.
you stood there for who knows how long, your wrists have gone numb from the water, when you finally decided to turn off the sink, drying your hands and wrists.
meanwhile suna sat on the couch in the living room, his leg bouncing as he stared on his phone, mind drifting back to you. you were so absent, so tired that it started to hurt him. you suffered on your own, shutting everyone out. maybe you didn’t even have the energy to reach out to him and here he sat, perfectly aware of your state of mind with no idea how to help or just make it a little bit easier on you.
his head shot up as he heard the door to the bathroom open, gaze softening as he saw you stepping out of it, feet dragging over the floor as you approached him.
the middle blocker didn’t take his eyes off of you for a second when you came to a halt in front of him, playing with your fingers in front of you.
you took a deep breath as you began to speak, head still hanging low, not wanting to look into his face. “please hug me,” you mumbled, already feeling how your throat closed in, “i really need a hug right now”
he didn’t even waste a second to get up and step closer to you, wrapping his arms around you and pushing you into his body. “always”
and so you stood there, suna holding you secure in his arms, the both of you having your eyes closed and taking in each other’s warmth.
“i’m sorry,” you finally broke, fist clenching the fabric of your boyfriend’s hand, “i’m being such a shitty partner right now and you don’t deserve this”
“it’s okay,” he replied, hands moving from the middle of your back to your waist, drawing small shapes.
you shook your head, still not daring to look at him. “no, it’s not,” you denied, “i have no reason to just waltz in here every day with my shitty mood and ruin your day because of whatever the hell is going on, that’s not fair. and to make it even worse, i’m not even talking to you about it, it’s just like i’m punishing you for something that isn’t even your fault” you rambled, only coming to a stop to take a breath. opening your eyes, you opted to stare at the fabric draped over his chest, face contorted into a pained expression. “i don’t even know what i’m doing anymore,” you whispered through your tight throat, feeling the first tears welling up in your eyes so you immediately shut them, not wanting to feel them pour over your cheeks.
“hey, take a deep breath, alright? we’re okay, i promise” suna was quick to reassure you, hands squeezing the sides of your waist in an attempt to comfort you. he would be lying if he said he wasn’t shocked. he never imagined you to feel so guilty for it, beating yourself up over the fact that you weren’t doing good mentally not for yourself but on his behalf. mentally he scoffed, cursing himself out for not realizing sooner just how long he let this drag along. but he knew that all he should do right now is be there for you and ease your mind, not potentially making everything worse for you. “and don’t you worry about ‘ruining my day’ or something like this, because you’re not, i don’t know who told you this”
he softly petted your head, mumbling some short phrases of affirmation with your arms still tight around him.
“i want to be better, i will be, i promise” your voice was all choked up, your eyes watering behind your eyelids. “i’m sorry i’m not good yet, i’m sorry”
“shhh” the young man shushed you, pressing you closer to him and softly swaying your bodies back and forth. “you’re good, you’re a good person”
you shook your head violently and even though your mind screamed at you to let him go and push him away, you only grabbed him tighter. “i’m not, i’m terrible, i’m horrible and nothing i do is changing that”
“that’s not true,” suna spoke softly, carefully, almost like you were about to run away. he didn’t force you to look at him, looking to the side himself as he spoke, but occasionally glancing at you, only to find you still staring at his shirt concentrated. “you’ve grown so much already and you’re such a good and kind person,” he claimed, a fond smile on his lips. you could hear that he truly believed what he said and while you didn’t exactly want to take his words to heart, you allowed yourself to succumb to them, heart warming at the thought of him genuinely thinking that you weren’t this horrible person you saw yourself as. “i know you can’t believe me, i know, but i promise it’s true”
after a few moments of silence he slightly pulled away to look at you again, one hand traveling to face, a thumb brushing over your wet cheek. “you trust me, right?” you nodded against him. your heart was beating rapidly, to the point of you being afraid that he could hear it.
your boyfriend smiled again, tilting your head upward. “good. then trust me with this too, okay?”
if he was shocked to see the tears running on your cheek quietly, he didn’t let you notice, instead wiping them away carefully.
“okay,” you whispered, “i’ll do my best”
suna smiled softly, kissing your forehead. “i know you will and you’ll do great”
“do you want to talk?” he asked after a couple minutes of you sobbing into him, but not before he couldn’t feel your body calming down in his arms.
you sunk your teeth into your bottom lip, ashamed to face him with what you were about to say. you didn’t want to look at him, you didn’t want to see whatever expression he might have on his face. pity? sadness? or even anger?
“i don’t want to be strong anymore,” you finally confessed.
strong. suna always knew you were strong — a strong person, able to hold so much pain inside of them and not cracking underneath it all. willing to burden yourself with so much, all to see the people you cared for happy, content. strong and carrying so much weight on your shoulders and yet you never wanted to give any of it away, opting to just swallow it down and keep going.
until you couldn’t anymore.
“don’t be” and while others saying this may sound almost condescending, thinking that this was the simplest thing in the world, he somehow made these two words sound so understanding, letting you believe that maybe it was alright for you to want it. “it’s okay”
“i can’t anymore,” you continued, eyes clenched shut as more and more tears found their way out of your eyes, staining not just your cheeks, but also your lover’s shirt.
“i know”
“what can i do?” you asked him, fully knowing that he didn’t have an answer to this question. you felt bad for asking this, bad for dumping all of these thoughts on him, but you knew that he wouldn’t hold this against you. suna wasn’t a particularly complicated or deceiving person — quite the opposite. he was here with you because he cared. and he was willing to deal with whatever it was that was weighing you down. “i don’t want to feel like this”
you continued to sob into him, a warm hand finding it’s way onto your back and drawing circles on it to get you to breathe. “i don’t want to do this anymore”
“i don’t know what to do,” you continued helplessly, mind racing as you poured your entire heart out, “i just want to let go”
and suna pulled you close to him again, whispering softly. “i got you”
“i’m scared,” you admitted, “i’m so scared, rin”
scared of your feelings, scared of change and yet scared of everything remaining the same. scared of not doing well and scared of failing and at the same time scared of losing everything and everyone that was dear to you because you wouldn’t change.
“i know. i’m here,” he didn’t waste a second to reassure you again, desperate to help you understand that no matter what, he loved you and wanted to do everything for you. “i’m here, i promise”
“please help me” suna’s heart broke as you whimpered in his arms, so terrified and vulnerable, exposing just how lost you felt. “make this go away please”
“i got you” he felt his throat drying after he pressed yet another long kiss on your forehead, desperate to convey his deep feelings for you that he just couldn’t voice out loud. “i promise”
“you’re not alone”

Prompt~ see ask^^^
————————————————————————
Really, it was amusing that you sat here pouting at a situation you had walked straight into. Willingly. All day you had been bratty, distracted and just plain disobedient to Emily and that was something she would never accept from you. As her wife, you knew damn well what you’d done and yet you still had the audacity to sit here squirming, despite the command to kneel and remain still. However, your wife was no stranger to recognising the cues of what you needed, perks of living and working together. Well and she is a profiler while you are just a technical assistant.
On the rare chance that no psychopathic serial killers were out on the hunt, the team stayed home bound and worked on paperwork that was so long since needing to be attended to. That was the soul reason you’d been able to achieve such a great result in annoying your lover with your behaviour. The instructions had been simple, go and strip bare, move so your nose is touching the wall and your knelt on your knees with your palms resting comfortably upon the tops of them.
Timeouts are something you hate, especially after you’d been edged on the drive home. All you wanted was her and that was something you knew you’d have to earn forgiveness before you could even think about having. You’d lost count how long she left you alone in the room, thighs coated in your need, craving the raven haired woman’s presence. You’ve always been told to be carful what you wish for, never understanding fully the meaning. Until now.
Ending up over your shared bed with Emily behind you was definitely not the attention you wanted. But it’s what you got. Her hand coming down against the soft globes of your ass and the backs of your thighs as she forced you to count and thank her for every hit. “Such a little slut, just needed mommy to give you a good spanking didn’t you baby?” She would taunt as an obnoxiously loud mewl slipped past your lips at the delicious sting her palm left behind. “Oh, you really are a little whore , wonder what the team would think? Their little mini PG over my bed whimpering like a bitch. Do you like it when mommy hits you baby?” You never confirmed it, you didn’t need to, the fact your enjoyment was dripping down your thighs told her everything she needed to know.
By the twentieth spank you no longer felt the same pleasure in the sting, your voice wavering as you counted for the woman. “Surely a slut like you can take ten more, right? Or are we not even capable of doing something so simple for mommy?” Her words only motivating you to take more. The brat in you simmering down into her pliant little girl. “I can mommy! I can please! Wanna be good” you whimpered causing the last ten wacks to be laid down on your ass faster than the speed of light.
You didn’t even have a breath to dry your falling tears before Emily’s slender fingers trailed down to the apex of your thighs, fingers playing with the copious amounts of slick that took residence there. “That wasn’t enough for my little whore was it? I think you need more, what do you think?” She murmured as if you were just discussing what to have for dinner. “No please mommy I’ll be good now, I swear!” you whined trying to squirm out of her hold despite there being no where to run. “Oh you poor girl” she cooed with her words dripping in faux sympathy, “You are mommy’s bitch to play with so why would I take orders from you? Remember your place little girl” she growled into your ear leaning down to grab your hair and roughly manhandle you into her desired position. “There’s so much fight here, a pretty slut like you doesn’t need it. Let mommy do all the thinking, just lay there and look pretty for me. Can you do that? No, you will do that or I won’t be as kind with my next move. You didn’t like that last time did you sweetheart?”
Last time flashed between your eyes as you remembered being left with your thighs covered in your sticky need for days on end, Emily refusing to touch you, no touching yourself and most definitely not allowing any of the potential friends into the bedroom touch you either. Your mama would’ve given into your crocodile tears and whimpered pleads too easily for Emily’s liking. But that didn’t mean that JJ wasn’t clued up on why you tried to hang around her more at work, subtly pleading with her to have her way with you, in fact the whole of the BAU had gathered you were very much on a punishment as time trickled on. “No mommy! Please! No don’t want that” you cried hoping to avoid the situation.
“The behave” she snapped back at you before yanking your legs apart and settling between them. Her lips trailing all over your exposed skin, nipping, biting and marking every inch of it from your neck to thighs. You could’ve sobbed in relief as she took your rock hard clit into her lips, allowing you some form of relief. “M-mommy” you choked out in between mewls of pleasure. Emily was always so skilled in every aspect of the bedroom but you often told her how this was your favourite way to let her take you. And when she added two fingers into your weeping hole as her tongue focused all its attention on your clit you swore you were ready to see stars. Until you didn’t.
“Mommy!” You sobbed in poor frustration at being edged once again. You really couldn’t think of anything but her. You’re cunt being sensitive and in dire need of some relief, clenching around thin air causing her to smirk at your pathetic state. “Pathetic. Can’t even handle a simple edging. Why should mommy give you and your pathetic pussy my cock hm? Do you deserve something so special?” Her teasing triggered a string of incoherent begging and pleading for her to take you with her cock that you knew was attached between her legs from the moment she’d had you knelt on the floor.
Knowing and seeing however are two very different things, seeing her cock was definitely better than just knowing it was there. In fact, you were practically drooling at the sight. “The sight of Mommys dick really does just turn you into a mindless bitch in heat doesn’t it my love? Oh my girl do you want it in your mouth? Say please, beg me” she murmured as she now approached you bare apart from her not so little hard friend. “Mmm please mommy, I want it” you whimpered, eyes never leaving the woman’s new appendage. It’s a deep maroon colour, that just so happens to be one of your favourite colours on the woman. And naturally Emily just had to buy one for her sweet girl.
“Open slut” she demanded looking down at your blown wide pupils with a smirk plastered on her lips. You instantly did as she asked of you and was rewarded with her veiny cum filled cock in your mouth. Your gags were music to the profilers ears, so much that she would pull out and forcefully thrust back in testing your gag reflex. Tears again now flowed freely as you did your best to take her abuse on your throat. Emily couldn’t lie, seeing you on your knees, her cock in your mouth was enough to have her on the edge with a simple look but that’s not what she wants tonight so she unhappily pulls her shaft from your now puffy and abused lips.
Simply deciding you’d slipped deep enough now she threw your plaint body on the bed and positioned you to be on your hands and knees, spread apart and ready for the taking. And taking you she would be. You couldn’t help but sigh happily as the tip of her cock teased the wetness all over your glistening folds. Those sighs soon turned into a gasp as she thrusted herself into your warm awaiting hole, stretching your soaking walls to accommodate her sheer size. “Mommy hurts” you whimpered adjusting to the stings and burns she’d created until they faded into blissful pleasure. “Oh, poor baby” she cooed not bothering to slow her pace or shorten her thrusts. The woman may as well have been a wild animal with how she was pounding your oversensitive pussy. Any whines and cries of protest were swiftly ignored and met with words that practically oozed dominance and sex.
“Gonna take my cum baby?” She panted into your ear after tugging your almost limp body towards her chest. “No mommy, too much can’t” you mewled quietly as the woman did nothing to slow the abuse on your core. “Shh, just a little more my love, such a sweet girl for your mommy. Mommy wants to make her sweet girl nice and full hmm? Can you be a doll and let mommy do that baby?” She murmured sweetly causing you to nod, giving Emily that okay to let herself and you fall over the edge as you both came rushing over the edge at the same time. A sneaky right arm squeezed at the base of her cock causing her cum to spurt into your awaiting walls with ease. The sensations causing you to go dizzy with pleasure and everything went black.
Now to say Emily wasn’t proud of her ability to fuck you like this wasn’t her secret joy of life would be a lie but she was always there jumping straight into aftercare. In scenes, your nothing more than a means to an end, how you both like it, but now your her wife, her sweet lover who deserves the world, sun, moon and stars. There’s nothing she wouldn’t do to be that for you so it was no surprise that she sprung into action, ridding herself of the strap on, heading to get a warm wash cloth and lotion for you as well as drinks and snacks for when you came round to the world of the living.
Like always she had been able to care for your sore body before you’d even roused yourself, and when you did the familiar haze covered your beautiful eyes showing the woman how far down you are. “Are we with me sweet girl?” She murmured softly, a stark contrast of what she’d been earlier on. A pitiful whimper was all she received as a response as you slowly rolled onto your stomach knowing the routine well enough. “Thank you sweet girl, mommy just wants to make you feel all better now darling. I’ll be gentle love” she murmured to you lowly as she took your desired cream and applied generous amounts onto your sore arse. Next on the order would be a drink, trip to the rest room and a snack if you desired.
Before you knew it you were laying your head on Emily’s chest as she gently stroked your cheek with her index finger. Truly you looked nothing short of perfect in this state and it’s one she always wanted to commit to her memory. Although a sub drop didn’t appear to be on the cards Emily always easily let you back to the real world but slowly easing out of the scene, something that had worked well. What she had never seen you do is poke your tongue out to swipe at her finger before moving your hand to grab at her rest and bring the finger to your mouth.
On instinct really, you began to suckle on her finger as she watched on mesmerised. Oral fixation isn’t something you have discussed or discovered about yourself but it appears to be a needed conversation. “You’re okay darling, mommy is here okay?” She murmured to you watching as your eyes fluttered shut, contentment filling your body. Happy murmurs surrounded her fingers as you tried to snuggle even closer. “Good night sweet girl, mommy loves you darling” she whispered as you appeared to be falling into a peaceful slumber, not letting her finger slip from between your lips.

A week passed with no so little as a text from Aemond. With your current condition, you weren’t sure if the silence on his end was a good thing or not. Sure, you looked up other options. A way out. A way to terminate the pregnancy… but then Aemond’s words loomed over you like a dark cloud. Coming back to you all at once, the second you even thought about escaping him.
“-your entire family and most of all, your brother is ruined. I have my finger on the trigger right now.”
What could you do? What should you do? Aemond hadn’t contacted you in over a week. Maybe he just wanted to scare you and leave? Forget about you. Oh Gods, you hoped he had forgotten about you.
Your brother nearly pranced into the kitchen, opening the fridge to grab a drink. From your  vantage point on the couch, he looked happy, giddy. You tried to hide further behind your laptop, pretending to be busy with the schoolwork you should be doing and not stressing over anything.
Don’t give him a reason to be suspicious of you.
“Hey! Wanna hear some great news?” He interrupted your act at homework.
You sighed and shut your laptop on your lap, looking up to your brother with thinly veiled disdain. “Sure.”
If he noticed your discontent, he did not speak on it. “That trade deal, last week, remember? I was trying to get through parliament? It passed!” He smiled widely toward you, as if that was a reason you should be ecstatic too.
Your lips formed a crooked smile, trying to hide the fact that you did not care nor did you see the reason you should. “Huh, that’s great.” Then you remembered, a week expired memory of Aemond telling you that he blocked the trade deal flashed in your memory and your blood ran cold.
Why did it pass? What did he want now? Was I wishfully thinking this was over?
Your brother’s smile faltered, “Shouldn’t you be excited? That’s a win for us.”
He snapped you out of your spiraling dread. “Us?” You looked up to your brother, slight anger rising in your heart though you were too afraid to show it.
He nodded, moving closer to you, towering over you on the couch. “Look at what I’m doing for this family. Be grateful for my sacrifices. Do you know how many nights I stayed up past midnight trying to speak to my connections in parliament to get the trade deal to pass? Do you know what this means for us? For me?”
He speaks of sacrifices as if he was the sacrificial lamb I am.
You narrowed your eyes up at him, feeling emboldened by the anger bubbling up inside you. Your brother had no clue what it was like to sacrifice…anything. So he lost sleep? So what. You lost your sense of self, your dignity, your freedom. And again, all he lost was sleep.
“Honestly, I don’t care what a trade deal means for you. I don’t care how it’ll boost your standing in the company.” Your brother looked shocked at your words, you continued to glare up at him. “Because you don’t give a shit about me. I lost all respect for you when I realized you had none for me.”
Your brother stuttered, looking shocked. “I’ve given you everything. I love you.”
You scoffed, shaking your head. “You have a fucked up way of showing it-”
Before you could realize what had happened, your brother grabbed your wrist and painfully jerked you up to your feet, although, you were not prepared to stand and lost your footing once he let you go, falling to the group, hitting your head on the glass coffee table and shattering it underneath you. Your laptop that was on your lap fell amidst the shuffle and your weight landed on the top of it.
Once you realized what happened, you felt blood trickling down your head, wrist, forearm. Your brother paid no attention, leaning over you, so close to your face as he spat angrily, “You are nothing without me.” He grabbed the already bruising wrist and jerked your body closer, scraping along the glass. “No one in this family is anything without me. Never forget that.” His voice was low, possessive, demonic. He shoved your wrist away and walked from the scene he had caused.
You were left in the living room, trying to make sense of what happened and what you should do. You looked at the wrist he had grabbed, now turning purple and swollen. You felt the blood falling from your head to the white, fur rug that was underneath the shattered coffee table’s frame. You went through the motions numbly, standing up, grabbing your phone, laptop, walking into your bedroom and grabbing your wallet, stuffing those three belongings in your school bag and walked out the door.
You knew you needed to seek medical attention, feeling the faint sting of your wrist breaking the absolute numbness you felt, and alongside that stinging, you began to feel dizzy. You called an Uber, thankful the driver didn’t ask questions or speak as you stared ahead after directing him to Sunspear Foundation Hospital. You only answered the questions they needed to know, the nurses, remaining quiet when three nurses came in and asked you if you were in a domestic abuse situation, asking if you knew you were pregnant from the mandatory pregnancy test you had to take upon arrival. When the social worker came in, she asked if you were safe at home.
Were you? No. Did you tell them the truth? No.
A nurse knocked on the door, the sting in your wrist still painful as you were denied all pain killers due to your condition, instead, you moved to sit up, using the non-swollen wrist. “Come in,” you said meekly.
She stepped in, just barely, trepidation in her proximity. “Uh miss? I have a visitor here for you-”
You furrowed your brows at her, wondering who would even know you’re here-
Aemond appeared from behind the nurse and moved to thank her before shutting the door to your room and looking down at your bandaged self lying in a hospital gown. His remaining eye was hard to read, he was hard to read. He set you on edge and given what had just happened, you knew the monitor connected to your finger sensed your pulse quicken.
He glanced up to the rising numbers and decided then, to sit down next to you. Eye raking over your bandages without even a hint to what he was thinking, feeling. Being near him set you on edge. And the question you didn’t need answering popped in your mind.
How did he know I was here.
In theory, you knew. You knew he was well connected. You knew he had eyes on you. You knew that he always knew what you were up to. But here? Even at a hospital you couldn’t escape his eye.
“Who did this to you?” His voice was even, cold, deep. It terrified you.
“Um-” You began, for some reason wanting to protect your brother. It was unfortunately second-nature for you at this point.
“Don’t fucking ‘um’ me. Was it that wastrel you consider a sibling?” His voice was no longer even, it had an edge to it. It reminded you of the movies, when the man who loved the woman saw her hurt and was ready to kill for her given the word. It would have been romantic….if it wasn’t Aemond.
“Yeah,” you croaked, moving your uninjured hand to your bandaged wrist to play with the bindings. “He- He didn’t mean-”
“I don’t fucking care if he meant to or not, you’re not allowed there again.”
You looked at him, truly looked at him for the first time in a week. He was still in his suit. It looked like he had just come out of a parliament session. His hair was pulled into a low ponytail behind his head, only a few strands had been pulled out. His tie looked like it had been previously tight, now loose. He looked like he was slightly disheveled, not a usual look for him.
Did he drive all the way from King’s Landing once he found out I was in the hospital? Did he care about me? Was he worried?
You shook those ideas from your head as quickly as they came. Aemond was not a man to care about anything.
He’s worse than your brother. He’s another shark. You’re just another small fish in his pond.
“Do you hear me?” His voice cut through your thoughts, you hadn’t realized he had been talking. Blame it on blood loss or sleep deprivation at this point. Blame your attention span and your wild thoughts on both please. Blame both on anything but a sound mind. “You’re staying at my flat in Dorne until the wedding.”
You furrowed your brows, “No I’m not. I’m going home.” Blame your boldness on both too. Your heart sank as you realized what you had said, now growing anxious at the reparations you would pay for speaking back.
His eye remained neutral. “I’m not letting you go back there. Not after what he did to you.”
Why do you even care?
“Besides, It’ll give me more time to see you-” He tried to reach his hand up to grasp your uninjured one but there was another knock at the door. You told whomever it was to come in and Aemond’s embrace left your hand thankful as the doctor stepped into the room. She explained you had a sprained wrist, along with other minor cuts that would heal hopefully without scars thankfully to her using medical glue instead of stitches.
Finally, she smiled at the two of you as if you were a happy couple, giddy with joy at the prospect of a child. Maybe Aemond was…. But she told you that she went ahead and scheduled your follow up with a midwife in three days from now. “I know it’s a bit early for you to see them, but given the events of today, I’d like you to get started on your appointments with the prenatal care providers to ensure that both you and baby,” she pointed to your flat stomach underneath the hospital gown, it made you want to hurl, “are alright.”
She stood and shook your uninjured hand, then Aemond’s as he thanked her happily. She informed you both that the discharge nurse would be around quickly and you could leave then get some “much needed rest.” Dread pooled in your stomach as you realized you wouldn’t be able to rest where you were going, into the jowls of the beast.
The discharge nurse was quick, Aemond was quicker to help you out of your hospital gown (thankfully not bare to him as you kept your underwear and bra on), and he diligently, like an obedient and sweet partner, led you through the hospital, out into the warm night to where his black sports car sat parked. Even like a gentleman, he opened the door for you to sit. His engine roared to life, you glanced into the backseat, remembering the position he had you in a week ago on that leather fabric.
On top, pretending I was in charge, much like right now. Though, I’m never in charge right? It’s only the facade.
His flat was fifteen or so minutes from the hospital, maybe five from your brother's. It was big and spacious, much like your brother’s expensive flat. But where your brother had the flat furnished bright and modern, Aemond had his furnished dark, old academia style. It screamed “Old Money” and you nearly laughed at how drastically different Aemond and your brother were while also sharing a single central attribute; they were both terrible people.
“You are sleeping in here tonight,” Aemond walked through a doorway to a bedroom, assuming you would follow… and you did. You looked around the dark bedroom, a King sized bed in the middle topped with dark coverings. There was a bathroom and walk-in closet off of it. It was a master suite. It was Aemond’s room. He deposited your school bag beside the bed. “I see you didn’t bring anything but a broken laptop and your wallet. You’ll need clothes.”
You fidgeted with your clothes you had on now. They were comfortable, you could sleep in them but Aemond walked into the closet, turning on the light and stifled through his clothes. You knew he wasn’t going to give you space. He’d force you to sleep in the same bed with him in his own clothes. He owned you. He knew you were too scared to say one simple word: ‘no.’
He walked out of the closet with a large T-shirt. It had a band’s name on it. “Here,” he offered and you took it.
That was it… a t-shirt.
“In the morning, we can order you more clothes for here but for now, you can sleep in this.”
“Clothes for here.” He’s serious about me staying.
A chill ran up your spine, uneasiness rose in your throat.
Just for tonight, you told yourself. He can’t hold me captive.
You looked over at Aemond who disappeared into the bathroom. From your vantage point, you could see him stripping his fine clothes in the wall length mirror and folding his clothes and setting them atop the hamper. You thanked the Gods he kept his dark boxers on.
Or can he? Fuck. What will he do if I don’t stay?
The word stay echoed in your mind, remembering the time in your childhood where you were teaching your Northern Riverlands Waterdog to stay. He was one, you were nine. He’s dead now… he stayed, obediently; as you commanded… in the Riverlands until his death. Was that your fate with Aemond? Pliant? Agreeable? Quiet? Like an obedient hound?
As Aemond emerged back into the bedroom, towering over you, you gulped your fear down and the truth of it all came bubbling up.
If I don’t change, if I dont stick up for myself… that answer is yes.
“Are you going to change?” Aemond asked, breaking you from your haze. You looked up to him, briefly wondering if he heard your thoughts until you remembered the t-shirt you were grasping for dear life in your uninjured hand.
“Uh…yeah.” You stepped past him, making your way to the bathroom. You shut the door behind you, breathing a sigh of relief that Aemond allowed you to have privacy to change. You pulled your shirt off as quickly as you could with a sprained wrist, wincing slightly as the soft fabric of your shirt drug along some of the wounds that were bandaged. Your shorts came off easier. You kept your underwear and bra on and managed to get into his shirt. The shirt was large, you swam in it, however, it barely reached past your bottom and anxiety crept up your neck as you realized  how much skin you were going to bare to his prying eye.
Slowly unlocking the door and stepping out of the bathroom, Aemond was already sitting in the bed, his legs hidden underneath the dark covers as his back rested against the headboard. He looked over to you, eye raking up and down your body as you stared ahead to the place next to him where he intended you to sleep. Your words to yourself came flooding back into your mind.
If I don’t change, nothing will.
“I don’t feel comfortable sleeping in your bed tonight.” You mustered up all the courage you could possess, forcing yourself to make eye contact with him. He only scoffed and threw the coverings over his legs off. Standing up and striding toward you like a predator and you, prey. You felt the urge to cower given the happenings of today but you fought the urge. Before you knew what was happening though, Aemond grabbed around your waist, hoisting you over his shoulder. You kicked against his stomach to no avail, tried hitting his back until you remembered your wrist was sprained and sharp jolts of pain shot up your arm. You croaked in pain, trying to grab your wrist instinctively but before you could grasp it, Aemond threw you into the soft plushness of the bed: where he intended you to sleep.
He moved to hover over you but you kicked up at him angrily. He dodged your foot, grabbing it mid-kick and gripped your ankle tightly, mirroring your brother several hours ago, yet not as harsh. He glared down at you, and you up at him. Emboldened by your fear, fueled by courage you were forcing. You wanted to spit in his face; you had half a mind to do it. Aemond glanced down, an idea flashing across his features and before you could act to defend yourself he reached down and ripped your lacy bikini bottom underwear from your core, exposing you now that the shirt was bunched up around your waist. He let go of your leg and stepped two paces backward, eye still drawn on you as he held your torn underwear in one hand. “Consider that your punishment for thinking, even for a second, I’d let you out of my sight.” Making you sleep without underwear as a punishment; what did that mean for you?
You scoffed and pulled the dark comforter over your lower half to cover yourself and Aemond started walking around the bed toward his side. “Seems like an easy thing to do considering you’re lacking half,” you mumble as you turn on your side, back to Aemond and pull the covers all the way to your neck.
“What did you say?”
Your blood runs cold, you hadn’t realized he had heard your snark but he did…and his tone was dangerous.
You feel the bed dip a split second before you feel his hand roughly grab your shoulder to pull you onto your back and face him. All your courage and anger wiped from you as you stare up, wide-eyed at his expression; one akin to hatred.
“What. Did. You. Just. Say.” He grits out between clenched teeth. You think momentarily that he might slap or punch you as a hand behind his head slowly raises but that notion in your head dissipates as the hand closes around your neck; constricting oxygen and blood flow. You reach up to remove his hand with your injured and uninjured hands, clawing at him but he does not move. Your head starts becoming light.
“I was going to be a gentleman tonight, give you the rest you so deserve… but it seems you’re in need of a lesson.”
You can barely register the words as your vision starts to become blurry. Just as you’re certain you’re about to pass out, Aemond releases your throat. You cough, sputtering up and drooling as your eyes glaze over in tears. You run a hand along your throat and the skin is painful to the touch. You’re unaware of Aemond as you try to recover your body from the blood and oxygen loss to your brain. You feel dizzy still, the feeling is not ebbing. Absent-mindedly, you try to sit up in search of a deeper breath and Aemond takes advantage of your upright position to rip his shirt off you, unclasping your bra and throwing it behind him, into the void of the room.
You feel his hands on your breasts and realize he’s still kneeling on the bed in front of you, slotted between your legs covered by the comforter still. You move to push his hands away from you but he grabs your wrists in one hand and pushes you against the bed.
“Be a good girl and take your punishment willingly. I might even give you some rest tonight if you’re good.” His fiery breath is on the shell of your ear and your eyes are screwed shut in pain as his grip on your sprained wrist sends jolts of torture through your body. You squeal hoarsely at it and he takes notice, releasing your wrists. “Keep your wrists above your head and that won’t happen again.” You nod without hesitation, thankful for the pain to begin to fade.
Aemond’s hand engulfs your right breast. You feel him kneading it in his large palm, then flicking his tongue against your nipple until it stiffens to a peak. His tongue is nice, soft and warm. Maybe if you thought about that, softness, you’d enjoy it - what’s to come. He moves to the other breast, repeating the action until both of your breasts appear to his liking. He sits back, marveling at your bare chest. “Open your eyes.”
You can’t do it, can’t obey. Your eyes remain screwed shut.
You hear him scoff, most likely rolling his eye as you feel him move just beneath the covers to the apex of your thighs and slapping you harshly on your bare center. You whimper and give in, opening your eyes. He’s clad only in his boxers, just as he was before he choked you but for some reason, seeing Aemond towering over you in only his boxers makes fear gnaw on your nerves. You look up from the tent in his boxers to his face. His remaining pupil is black now; he looks like a demon, here to steal your soul.
“I am going to fuck you,” he says simply, slipping out of his boxers and discharding them beside the bed. “You’re going to thank me for servicing you so well, understood?” You look down to the ruddy tip, leaking of precum, straining hard against his own skin; like a caged beast.
“Understood?” His tone was one of a teacher or a parent after scolding a child. You looked up to him and nodded; unsure if you didn’t want it at all or wanted him to shove that glorious cock into you.
No, no you definitely don’t want that.
“You’ll also thank me for giving you my lineage.” He moved the comforter from your lower half, exposing your entire body to him. “Not every woman gets to carry a Targaryen in their womb. You should be honored.” He slotted himself between your legs, bending them at the knee and spitting down to your core. This would have been a hot, passionate coupling if he hadn’t been Aemond and if he hadn’t just said what he did.
You pushed the back of your head deeper into the pillows, wanting to escape this hellscape as you slowly came to your senses. Everything came back to that fucking thing.
He ran the rigid edges of his cock along your pussy, up to your clit. It sent sparks along your belly but died before they could ignite anywhere else. Your fire was burnt out, any semblance of arousal died the second he reminded you that he put his semen inside of you and that it unfortunately took root.
His aching cock caught along your entrance and he pushed against your rejecting walls. You knew he was well endowed, the biggest you’d ever taken, but gods, you hadn’t realized just how large his cock was until you didn’t want it. Maybe the fact your walls tried to push him out made him seem larger than he was but you nearly screamed when the head of him pressed harshly against the wall of your cervix.
“Fuck,” he muttered, pulling out slightly, only to push into your refusing cunt again. You whimpered against his second push. His body fell to encompass your own, burying his head into the skin of your neck, breathing his flames against your artery.
“You should really give in to me. It’ll make it a lot easier for you-”
“Why,” you bit out against his ear without much breath, “you’re going to fuck me anyways. Why do you care?”
Aemond raised, just enough for you to see his smirk and eye over your pained expression. “You’re absolutely right.”
His hips snapped harshly against you, stealing the breath from your lungs. You felt cramping begin in your abdomen from how harshly he had begun to take you. “Gentle-” you pleaded as you screwed your eyes shut and pushed his chest with your uninjured hand. “Please.”
You heard him huff above you, “Why? Like you said, I’m going to fuck you anyway. Why should I be gentle for you when this,” He accentuated that word with a thrust that made your whole body freeze in pain. Your muscles when taut and he half-moaned. “This is what I want. How I need it. How I like it.”
You pushed harder against the smooth, solid planes of his chest, “I- I’m carrying your child-” It was the first time you said it out loud, first time you admitted to yourself the truth you couldn’t bear. Now, more than ever, felt like a great time to make it an excuse. “Please- be gentle with me.”
Your voice was so small, cracked with emotion as tears began to form in your scrunched waterline… but it got the message across.
Aemond stopped completely, still nestled inside of you. He felt your walls ease as he ran a hand up the curves of your body, stopping with his hand cradled along your ribcage. Your eyes softened until you felt the urge to look up at him through your tears. His expression was soft, contemplating over your nude figure.
He leaned down, taking your breast in his mouth, groping at the base near your sternum gently. You felt another hand more to your clit, gentle pressure moving along the pearl.
His sudden change surprised you but nothing caught you off guard more when his head moved up from your breast to your face and kissed your parted lips hungrily. Tongue slipping past your lips. It was awkward, you didn’t kiss him back, still shocked at his sudden change.
He pulled from your mouth, rutting gently now into your walls that had begun accepting him with his ministrations. “I’m sorry,” he kissed your neck, “you’re my delicate river. I do need to be careful with you.”
You furrowed your brows, looking sideways at him. Scared to speak but also so confused, “I’m not yours, Aemond.”
He smiled and kissed you again, hand moving down to your stomach. “You’re carrying a part of me inside of you. I’m with you, always. How are you not mine?”
You turned your head away, trying to escape the gnawing pleasure that was now betraying your body. Aemond moved his head to your hair; silver locks intertwining with the falsely dark locks of your own dyed head. “You’re so perfect. You always have been, haven't you?”
He angled his hips to brush against your spot, you felt your body betraying you, allowing him into your most intimate part now with grace and fever. Your walls relaxed completely, growing wetter and wetter. You felt your heartbeat quicken, perspiration began to pool on your forehead.
“C’mon sweet girl,” he tweaked with your nipple, “give in to me.”
“You’re a monster,” you breathed quickly between the pants you were trying to conceal.
“Y’know you love it. Even if I am.”
“You are.”
He hummed to himself, rising up and hitching one of your legs over his shoulder, reaching deeper than before. Still playing with your clit as his thrusts became quicker but still gentle. “Then what does that make you then, huh?” He smirked from above you, “Because gods- the way your cunt is starting to clench around me, I know you’re liking my cock, loving it. You love this extension of me, you wanton whore.” His words were brash, harsh…but he spoke in reverence. “Gods-” he moaned, “and I’ll teach you to not just love this extension of me, but all of me.”
You felt your peak nearing but not being able to reach the summit as his bed-room talk was absolutely insane. “I’ll never love you.”
Your breasts bounced along with his thrusts, he smiled down at them in reverie before his lone eye met yours. “Keep telling yourself that, my beautiful river. See who wins.”
He pinched your clit harshly and thrusted up into you with a gentle fever that had you tumbling over the edge. You saw stars as your back arched off of the bed. Body and mind betraying you as you gave in to him. Your cunt clamping down on his member and your blissed out expression, along with a half-scream you weren’t aware you made had him toppling over the edge, hips faltering in their pistoning as he shot his load against your already seeded womb.
Panting, he laid gently atop you, caging you in with his sweaty body as he came down from his high. His hand came up to caress your hair. He began planting sweet, chaste kisses on the side of your face. No, no they would have been sweet if they weren’t from Aemond but your mind dissociated as his softening cock still laid within you, his lips on your face, his hand in your hair…his child in your womb.
You kept thinking about what he called you, during the act.
“My beautiful river.”
At least he saw you for what you were. Your roots, your homeland, your personality.
A river flows, leaves where and who it once was, changes course, cuts through the land unapologetically.
You took a deep breath, staring into the abyss of Aemond’s dark room.
Be a river.

I Do Bad Things with You - Part 43
Tumblr media
It's aliveeeeeee!!! 🙌 I can't even begin to describe how off my game I've been trying to write. I've had the entirety of IDBTWY written for months, but I honestly hated my writing, and editing was such a chore. I'm still not completely in love, but we need to push past so we can finally close this beast. I am slowly working through my creative drought, and hope to have some consistent content coming soon!

Elain was sitting in the waiting room of the OBGYN office, knee bouncing nervously. This was her first-trimester check-up and she just wanted to make sure that everything was okay. Her nausea had been pretty awful over the last few weeks and she had grown excessively tired—to the point that she had to talk with Thesan about reducing her surgical procedures so she could keep a clear head.
She hated having to do that, not wanting to disappoint her boss just after she reached her attending level earlier that year. But Thesan took it in stride, helping to arrange her schedule to fit what she was comfortable doing and ensuring she had time to take proper meal breaks and rest when she needed it. He rearranged schedules and let her take on leading the resident interns full-time, allowing her to take some of the stress off by guiding them through procedures and running the ER.
He had come into her hospital room after she collapsed to check on her, and she knew she couldn’t keep it from him after what had happened in the operating room. Her boss had been ecstatic, congratulating them both.
It had been about a month since they found out they were pregnant, and she was now sitting at around seven and a half weeks along. She and Azriel decided to keep the news to themselves until she reached week twelve, just to play it safe, and Elain wished she could say they had been successful in their endeavors. But, her boss knew, and Viviane knew. The Moonbeam twins found out two weeks ago when she and Fenrys had exited the elevator of their building and Connall’s breakfast sandwich sent her hurdling for the nearest trashcan. Fen had been quick to slide her hair back, holding it above her head as she heaved. Stepping off the elevator a few minutes later, a startled and confused Azriel took in the sight of Connall and then heard her retching. He instantly was at her side, taking her hair from Fenrys, and running his hand down her back.
“What is in that sandwich,” he demanded.
Blind-sighted, Con rambled out ingredients. “Bacon, cheese, spinach, and egg.”
Elain gagged at the word egg, her stomach violently rolling from the name. “Get rid of it,” she moaned, still leaning into the disgusting garbage.
The dark-haired twin had swallowed the remains of his meal in three large bites.
It took effort to push herself off the trash bin, falling into the comforting embrace of Az’s strong arms that he wrapped around her.
He cupped the side of her face, tucking her under his chin, and let her thumb swoop over the apple of her cheek, the touch gentle and soothing. “Do you want your tea,” he murmured, lips pressing into her hair.
Unable to voice it answer, she dipped her chin.
Fenrys was already on the ground before them, pulling her coffee mug from her bag that she dropped and handing it to Azriel.
Her husband brought the mug up to her lips and allowed her to sip, the peppermint hitting her stomach and calming the raging sea. His hazel eyes glanced at her, a question simmering in them, and read the answer she didn’t even need to speak. “Elain’s pregnant,” he told the twins. “It’s still very early and we’re trying to keep it close to the chest for now, but please don’t bring eggs anywhere near her.”
Her body shuddered at that damn word again, but she managed to gain enough strength to pull herself from Azriel’s arms as she faced the Moonbeam brothers. “Sorry about that,” she said and felt her husband tense as she apologized for being sick. He’d been wildly adamant that she not apologize for the nausea, the cravings, or anything else she needed of him or anyone else. Not after having a meltdown because he went and got her something she asked for, only to start craving something else when he was out and feeling utterly ridiculous about it.
Connall seemed to snap from his shock first. “Congratulations to you both. And I apologize for the sandwich. I won’t bring anything around that has—”
“Please don’t say the word or I might hurl again,” she interrupted, fingertips touching her mouth like she’d hold it back. Fuck, even just the name of it sent her body quaking from the queasiness.
Fen chuckled. “Noted. Is there anything else that sets you off we should be made aware of?”
She shook her head no. “Nothing else that I know of yet.”
He nodded, a charming smile spreading his lips. “Let us know if anything changes. And congratulations on the pregnancy. I’m so happy for you both.”
And she could see it, the joy radiating on both of their faces. It made her heart swell with love for the two men who would likely become Uncle Fen and Uncle Con to their child.
The door opening caught her attention, pulling her from her reverie, and she met the gaze of the nurse who’d come to collect her. Elain glanced back at the elevator, waiting for her husband to show up. He was running late—something that was so very unlike him, which only added to her anxiety. She returned her attention to the nurse. “Can you give him another couple of minutes?”
It wasn’t the first time she asked to delay her appointment and knew it couldn’t continue much longer.
The nurse—Maria as her name badge read—gave her a sad smile. “We really can’t delay much longer. There are a few appointments behind you.”
“Just a couple of minutes,” Elain practically begged.
Maria hedged, shuffling from foot to foot, uncomfortable by the request, but was saved from having to deny her by the elevator door sliding open and Azriel rushing out.
He was at her side instantly, taking her arm to help her stand as if she couldn’t do it herself. Elain had to remind him on occasion that she was not yet showing and could still move about the house without his assistance. “I’m so sorry I’m late. There was an accident downtown and I got caught right in the middle of traffic. I’ll leave a half hour earlier next time.” He leaned down to brush his lips to her cheek.
His presence immediately calmed her and she leaned into his touch.
Azriel, always in tune with her feelings, didn’t miss how she settled into him as they followed the nurse back, his arm slinking around her waist so he could touch his mouth to her ear. “Are you all right?” he asked her. Nothing ever got by him.
She nodded but knew he hadn’t bought it. Still, he let it slide, caressing her arm in a soothing gesture. The nurse took all her vitals and then handed her a gown to change into before the doctor arrived. Az helped her slip it on, tying the strings together for her before assisting her onto the table.
“You’re nervous,” he commented now that they were alone.
Elain blew out a breath. “A bit.”
He swept his thumb over her cheek. “Tell me what’s wrong.”
She shrugged. “I don’t know to be honest. Just want to make sure everything is growing healthy in there,” she said, patting her still-flat stomach. “No surprises.”
Az chuckled, kissing her temple. “I have no doubts that we have a healthy baby, love. Try not to fret.” His words seemed to calm her as she relaxed back onto the table.
A knock on the door announced the arrival of her doctor and she took a moment to introduce herself to her husband, shaking his hand.
“Okay, let’s get started. Elain, if you wouldn’t mind putting your feet into the stirrups.”
She took out the ultrasound wand, spreading lube on the tip, and Elain couldn’t help but smile at her husband’s confused face.
“All right, my dear. You should feel a little pressure,” her doctor said.
“I’m sorry, but I thought she was getting an ultrasound. What is that?” Azriel questioned.
Elain snorted lightly. “Az, it’s a transvaginal ultrasound. It goes inside, not on my belly.”
His eyes widened. “Well, the three baby books I’ve read didn’t discuss the differences in ultrasound types.”
Doctor Chen raised her brows. “You’ve read three baby books already?”
He shrugged. “I just like to be prepared.”
“You’re going to be a great father.”
The comment seemed to startle her husband. “Just because I’ve read a few books?”
Chen’s lips turned up at the corner. “Mr. Archeron-Knight, I can barely get most fathers to read one, let alone three. And before she’s even through the first trimester. Believe me when I say that I can tell who’s going to be well-adjusted to handling fatherhood.” Giving him a wink, she slipped the wand inside, making Elain’s grip on Azriel’s hand tighten slightly.
“All right, here we are,” Doctor Chen said, clicking a few buttons on the keyboard to bring up the monitor. A pitter-patter sound filled the air as she located the baby’s heartbeat.
Tears sprung into her eyes as that beautiful, perfect, innocent noise washed over her and she glanced up at her husband to see him sharing the same look as her. He leaned down to kiss her softly on the lips, the special moment between them growing with the touch of his mouth against hers.
“And here is your baby,” Chen announced, pointing to a little blip on the screen.
Elain’s dark gaze stared at that spot on the screen, feeling like her heart was about to burst with happiness. But when her eyes slid to her doctor, seeing the furrow in her brow, that joy dropped like a rock in her stomach.
Her doctor let out a small noise of contemplation, enough to catch Azriel’s attention. “What is it?” he asked, voice laced with demand and worry.
A few clicks on her keyboard had the screen adjusting, zooming out just slightly. She repositioned the wand inside of her, making her body tense. “Well, I think we should discuss multiple births. Because that right there,” she said, pointing to another blip on the screen, “is a second fetus.” She clicked a button again and two very distinct heartbeats surrounded them. Chen turned to look at them with a smile. “You’re having twins.”
If Elain thought her heart was racing before, it was absolutely pounding now, the sound rushing in her ears. Because there was just no way, no way, right? Twins? Twins! Her head swiveled to look up at her husband. “You and your fucking superseed!” she snarled.
“Elain!” Azriel chastised, looking torn between being guilty of impregnating her with two kids and amused about her foul language in front of the doctor. Mostly the latter.
Chen just laughed. “I’ve told many expecting parents they’re having twins over the years, but that was, by far, the best reaction I’ve ever seen.”
She had the decency to at least look embarrassed as she apologized to her doctor for her outburst, but she just waved her off.
After snapping a few pictures, she pulled the wand out, cleaned her up, and set the printed sonogram photos on the counter for them. “Everything looks good, Elain. You’re growing at an optimum level. I’ll go ahead and prescribe you some anti-nausea medicine that you can take in the morning and before bed for as long as you need it. Unless there are any concerns, you’re free to get dressed. The nurse at the front will schedule you for your next appointment.”
The door clicked shut softly behind her as she left and Elain felt the silence between her and Azriel like a weight on her chest.
He helped her sit up, but before she could slide off the table, he stepped in front of her, finger hooking under her chin to force her gaze to his. “Hey,” he said softly like he was afraid anything louder might startle her. “El, love, I know this is scary, but we can do this.”
“Twins, Azriel. Two kids. As in one whole being more than we even were planning for.”
His mouth quirked up at her zealous explanation. “I’m well aware of how twins work, baby.”
She glared at him for the comment.
But he ignored it, leaning down to capture her mouth in a sweet kiss. “Twins mean two beautiful children of our own. Twins mean twice the amount of love we will have. Twice the amount of joy they will be bringing into our lives. If there is anyone who can take on the challenge of having twins, it’s us. Don’t ever doubt that.”
His words settled inside of her, soothing the jagged worries of her heart into something perfectly beautiful. His confidence, his strength…it was exactly what she needed at that moment and he knew it.
Elain let out a heavy breath. “You’re changing all the diapers.”
He barked out a laugh, folding her into his arms. “I’m okay with that.”
~~~
They decided to wait until she reached the fifteen-week mark before they told their family the news. Azriel was ready to burst at week nine, but she managed to hold him off until now with just a little bit of persuasion.
A surprise to both of them was when Elain didn’t have her head in the toilet, she was horny as fuck. Azriel was running hard to keep up with her impressive sex drive. And that was saying something.
He reached out and took her hand across the center console, thumb brushing over her knuckles. “Are you nervous?” he asked, bringing the back of her palm to his lips.
She glanced at him, a soft smile pulling at her mouth. “No. I’m excited. I want to tell everyone about them.” Her hand rubbed over her swollen belly. Swollen was probably the best way to describe her appearance. Truthfully, she looked like she indulged in a very large, carb-based meal of pasta and was extremely bloated from it. Which, to be fair, with Azriel’s amazing skills in the kitchen, it was a fair assessment.
Elain opened her purse and slipped out the sonogram she had a few days before. The one that told them what they were having. Her eyes welled up with tears as her fingers stroked the black-and-white image. She was so blissfully happy. “I’m glad that they’re healthy. That was all I cared about.”
Az kissed the backside of her palm again. “Me too. And I’m happy they’ll be close to Sutton’s age so they can grow up together.”
“Do you think Feyre and Rhys will start thinking about having kids?” she asked, curious if he thought their other siblings might be feeling a touch of the baby fever.
He shrugged. “If they weren’t talking about it before, I’d say they will be now. Rhys has been wanting kids since practically in high school. He always wanted to be a father; better than his, though he wasn’t anything compared to mine.” The words hung between them for a minute before he asked her, “Do you have concerns about me becoming my father?” His voice dropped to a near whisper. Almost as if he were afraid of her answer.
Elain looked at him in shock. “Azriel, gods no. I know exactly the kind of father you’ll be, and it will not even remotely look like what you were given.”
His lips quirked up at the corner. “Yeah? And what kind of a father do you think I’ll be?”
She twisted in her seat to face him better. “You’re going to be the most devoted father because you’re already the most devoted husband. You’ll dote on those kids until they never have a wish or dream unfulfilled. You will love them fiercely—I mean, you already do and they’re still in my stomach,” she giggled lightly, rubbing her belly. “They are going to be the most spoiled children.”
At that, he laughed. “I can’t say you’re wrong. I don’t think I will be able to say ‘no’ to them at all.”
“Azriel, you can’t even tell me no,” she deadpanned.
“It’s just not in my vocabulary when it comes to you.”
Elain shook her head, eyes rolling as she twisted back in her seat to face forward again. She could see the restaurant down the street where they were meeting their siblings for lunch to tell them the news. “Well, I’m not going to take on the mean parent role just because you can’t say no.” She fiddled with her purse, sliding the image back inside. “We may need to find an alternative—” Screeching tires caught her attention and then she screamed, “Azriel! Watch out!”
The car lurched, sending her head sideways to slam against the side window. The last thing she heard was shattering glass as another car collided with them before everything went dark.
~~~~~
Azriel’s eyes blinked open, ears ringing loud enough to make him wince. His body ached across his chest and waist from the seat belt and as he shifted himself, he could tell nothing was seriously injured. Thankfully. He looked over at his wife, fear locking his heart in a deadly force. “Elain,” he murmured, voice hoarse.
Her head lay against the back of the seat, lulled to the side. She had a gash on her forehead, blood dribbling down her temple, and most of her right arm was scratched up from the shattered glass.
He tried to unbuckle his belt, but the damn thing was stuck. Pulling the knife Ruhn had gotten him from his pocket, he cut the fabric, releasing him, then reached over and did the same to Elain’s belt. A scarred hand slid to her cheek, cupping it gently, and then moved down to her throat, searching for his worst nightmare.
The relief he felt when her heartbeat pattered against his fingertips was unlike anything he’d ever experienced. “Elain,” he tried again, moving his palm back to her face. “Elain, sweetheart, open your eyes for me.” His tone took on a desperate sound as he willed her to wake.
Movement caught his eye, the sound of tires crunching on glass flooded him and he looked out the window to see the car that hit them, pulling back and fleeing. “Motherfucker,” he cursed, realizing that this was an intended accident. He had managed to jerk the wheel so Elain didn’t take the brunt of the impact, but it still slammed into the back door, shattering all the windows on her side.
A burning rage built in his gut, one that could not—would not—be stifled without blood. Whoever ordered this hit…
They were as good as dead.
Azriel refocused on his wife, fingers sweeping over her skin. He shoved that wrath building inside of him down until it was a flickering ember, something for him to let rage once he knew she was okay. “Elain, come on. Open your eyes for me.” He gently tapped her cheek, trying to get her to look at him. “Please, love. I need you to open your eyes. Elain.”
A groan passed through her lips, sending tears of relief cascading over his cheeks as her eyelids began fluttering.
“El, baby,” he cried, swooping his thumb across her smooth skin. He collected the soft sounds coming from her parted lips like precious gems, thanking every god for each one.
“Az.” Her voice cracked on his name. “What happened?” she asked, still coming into consciousness.
He shuffled closer, leaning over the center console to kiss her temple with a gentleness he reserved only for her. “We were in an accident, love. I need you to stay still until help gets here.” He felt her pulse kick up under his palm.
Elain’s breathing turned short. “Azriel…” her voice shook in fear. “Az, the babies.”
His heart wrenched, hoping and praying that everything was all right. After all that they had been through, he didn’t think he could handle the world taking something else away from her. From them. But despite his fear, he remained calm, knowing she needed to as well. “Everything is going to be okay,” he promised. “I hear the sirens, love. Help is almost here.”
The words didn’t seem to abate her as she continued to shake. “Please,” she cried, tears gathering at the corner of her eyes and dribbling down her cheeks. “Check if I’m bleeding.”
Azriel knew she needed to know—would not breathe steadily until she did. He placed his hand on the inside of her thigh, sliding up until he reached her panties. Feeling her for any sort of wetness. Any stickiness that would confirm to him there was blood.
She was dry.
There weren’t words to describe how thankful he felt for that confirmation. “No blood,” he told her, pulling his hand out from underneath her dress to show her his clean fingers.
Elain released a sob, her tense body relaxing slightly.
He shushed her, kissing her temple again. “You’re okay,” he murmured, wanting to do everything in his power to reassure her. “Everything is going to be okay.”
Two firetrucks pulling up snagged his attention, as he continued to stroke her cheek soothingly.
“Sir, are you both okay?” one of the responders asked as he approached his side of the car.
He glanced at the man. “We’re conscious but she needs to be looked at.”
The guy rapped his knuckles on the top of the car. “We’ll get you out in a second—”
“Her first,” he told him in a tone that brooked no room for argument.
Another firefighter moved towards his wife’s window. “Ma’am, can you tell me your name?” she asked.
“Elain,” his wife answered.
“Are you in any pain?”
“My head hurts a bit.” Those doe eyes looked at the other woman. “I’m pregnant.”
She turned her head and yelled, “Get me the jaws!” Looking back at Elain, she reached in and wrapped a C-collar around her neck. “How far along are you?”
“Fifteen weeks.”
A nod. “All right, Elain. We’ll have you out in a jiffy and get you over to the hospital to have your baby checked out.”
Neither of them bothered to correct her on the number of babies. It wasn’t relevant, only that they needed to get her out. Once the door was opened, they began moving her onto a backboard. Azriel wrenched the driver’s side open, wanting to get to her as quickly as possible.
“Sir! You need to be checked by the paramedic,” somebody called out but he ignored them, rounding the vehicle to where Elain was being placed on a stretcher. Just before he reached her, another voice called his name—one he couldn’t ignore. He turned, finding Cassian running over to him, flashing a badge to one of the firefighters to get past him. Rhys, Feyre, and Nesta stood just beyond the scene at their cars, all watching his wife being checked out.
“What the hell happened?” Cassian demanded, eyes flitting over to where Elain was being hauled towards an ambulance.
“Hit and run. Fucker took off after T-boning us,” he snarled, tone murderous. They would not get away with this. Not with his pregnant wife in the car with him. Az glanced up and saw the street cameras, angled just right to have caught the entire accident. “Cash, get me the film from that camera,” he indicated with a nod of his head before swiveling on his feet and prowling toward his wife.
Cassian kept stride with him, took in the responders on the scene, and lowered his voice to not be overheard. “Az, the police will investigate. Just let them do their job.”
Azriel whirled on his brother. “You either get me that tape, Cassian, or I’ll get it my way. Either option, I will find out who did this to her.” There was no arguing when he stepped into this role. This wasn’t a brother asking for a favor. This was the head of the Velaris Mob Boss demanding it.
His voice turned deadly, taking on the dangerous threat he used to get what he wanted.
When it looked like his brother was about to argue, the female firefighter shouted, “Victim is fifteen weeks pregnant. She needs to be checked out by a doctor.”
Elain called Az’s name and he turned, striding towards her but not before he caught how Cassian’s face paled. Or the shocked looks from their siblings. Well, that’s one way to find out, he thought to himself as he reached his wife’s side and took her hand.
She clutched his fingers, her face still scrunched with worry. He gave her a reassuring squeeze, placing a kiss on her forehead before they loaded her into the back of the ambulance. Az climbed in after, sitting down on the bench and gripping her hand once more. He glanced back out the door and found Cassian standing there.
“I’ll get you that tape,” he said quietly; fierce determination blazed in his hazel eyes to help his brother wreak havoc over the person who went after his pregnant wife. Only Cassian could understand the fear of something like this, having already gone through a pregnancy with Nesta. Without another word, he shut the doors to the ambulance.
Elain looked up at him, his name falling from her lips. He brushed a thumb over her forehead. “Everything is going to be fine, love. Just try to relax.” It was empty words, they knew that. Knew neither of them would settle until they heard both of those heartbeats on a monitor.
He just hoped he was holding it together enough for her until they could confirm she was still pregnant.
And may God have mercy on the fucker who caused this, if she wasn’t.
~~~
They ushered Elain into a private room, hooking her up to a fetal monitor. The doctor moved quickly, shoving her dress up to reveal her bare stomach while a nurse covered her hips with a blanket.
She flinched slightly when the cold gel was applied to her skin and Azriel brought her fingers to his lips, kissing her across the backside of her knuckles.
It was like the world held its breath as they searched for those two heartbeats.
“Baby number one looks good,” the doctor said, clicking a button and sending the hummingbird’s wing pattern of a heartbeat into the room.
Elain squeezed his hand, a soft sound passing between her lips in relief.
The wand moved on her belly, searching for their other little one. “And, there they are. Hiding behind their sibling.”
When the second heartbeat reached their ears, Elain twisted, sobbing into Az’s chest with utter joy. He wasn’t very far behind her, letting tears of relief slip from his eyes as he cradled her against his torso. His hand rubbed her shoulder, lips pressing to the crown of her head, offering comfort to her through his presence and touch.
The doctor cleaned her off, smiling at the two of them. “Everything looks good on the monitor,” she started after giving them a moment. “We’ll keep you here for another hour or so just to be safe before we discharge you. If you have any bleeding in the next few days, come in right away.”
Elain seemed unable to answer, so he did it for her. “We will, thank you, doctor.”
“There also appears to be a group of people waiting for you guys in the lobby. Would you like me to send them in or give them a message?”
He crouched, putting himself at her eye level, wanting Elain to make the decision. Az cupped her cheek, thumb brushing away the tears under her eyes. “Love, do you want to see the family now?” he asked, voice low.
She sniffed, eyes still flooded with silver. The subtle shake of her head told him she wasn’t quite ready for the company yet.
Azriel rose, perching himself on the edge of her bed, and tucked her back into his chest. “Can you tell them that we’re okay, and I’ll come to get them when we’re ready for visitors?”
“Of course. Page the nurse if you need anything.” Without another word, she slipped from the room, the door clicking shut behind her.
Elain fisted his shirt, taking in his cedar and mist scent deep into her lungs. He gave her whatever time she needed, letting her get herself together. “I was so scared,” she whispered, burying her face further into his embrace.
Azriel was grateful that she seemed to find comfort in him, in his touch, his scent. He held her tighter against him, murmuring, “Me too.”
She held onto him for a few more precious moments before pulling back to look up at his face. “I didn’t see the other car when they pulled me out.” Her brows furrowed as she tried to put the pieces together. “Were we in a hit and run?”
“Yes,” he said, brushing his thumb back and forth over her cheek.
Her eyes flicked between his. “Do you think we were targeted?”
He wouldn’t lie to her—refused to, but also didn’t want her to be even more frightened than she already was. “I do.” Az saw that kid look directly at him, his eyes widening in understanding that he was, in fact, not dead, before taking off from the scene. He didn’t recognize him, but if he had to place a bet, he’d say it was one of Frankie’s lower levels who crossed to Elias’s side.
Az didn’t think either of his brothers would call a hit like that. Middle of the day, busy street. It wasn’t their style. But Elias was careless, greedy, and a poor decision-maker. He sighed, brushing his lips to her forehead. “The kid looked me dead in the eye before leaving. He was scared that I was still alive.”
“How old do you think he was?” Elain asked.
“I’d say we have at least a decade on him. Seventeen, maybe eighteen.”
“So, just a kid then.”
He cocked his head to the side. “You say that like it’s excusable.”
She shook her head. “I’m not excusing what he did, but we both know how young kids are trapped into joining those gangs. Through manipulation and fear. There’s a reason you won’t allow anyone that young to be brought in, Az, and you know it. I don’t think I’m going out on a limb to question if it was his idea or he was put up to it.”
His lips quirked up as she spoke like a true Mob queen. “If you had to guess who would put him up to it—”
“Elias, no doubt. We both know he’s been itching to strike at us since he showed up at the hospital. And you said he was trying to recruit kids from Frankie. Perhaps he offered this kid a way out from under Illyrian rule.”
“There is only one way out from Frankie’s Mob,” he told her, letting the words hang heavily between them.
Elain let out a deep breath. “I know. Either way, he’s dead. Elias is likely to kill him for failing, or Frankie and Nick will for attempting to leave.”
It floored him to just how similar her train of thought was to his. She observed and listened and picked up on every single thread laid down. Understood all of the connections and bloodshed as if she’d been a part of it her whole life. He couldn’t say that the revelation was thrilling, but it also made his chest ache. Az never wanted her to be so in tune with his world. Didn’t want her to have to think about the worst-case scenarios and determine ways around them. But here she was, doing just that and not shying away from it.
To think he couldn’t love her any more than he already did.
“I have to agree with your assessment. Elias will not get away with this; with what he’s done to you.”
She didn’t balk at the threat in his tone, simply took his hand in hers and squeezed. “Despite what he’s done, is going after him the best idea? Things could escalate.”
“We can’t let this go without repercussions, love. Others will hear about this and wait to see how I respond. If it’s not a show of force, they’ll think I’ve gone lax and more will come. I need to be aggressive with my actions.”
It looked like she wanted to argue some more, but decided against it, bringing his hand up to her mouth to kiss his scars. “Do you want to go get the others now? I’m ready to see them.”
He smiled down at her, cupping her cheek one more time. “I’ll be right back.” Az pressed his lips to her forehead before he slipped from the room, knowing that that conversation was far from over. But he’d let it go for now. She had been through enough today without him pushing her on it. But this was one thing he would not, could not budge on. Not if he didn’t want to keep her safe. Especially now with their growing family.
Azriel wasn’t even to the edge of the lobby when Nesta shot out of her chair.
“Is she all right?” his sister asked, face drawn with worry.
His eyes glanced to Cassian behind her, cradling a sleeping Sutton in his large arm, Feyre and Rhys next to him. “She’s fine,” he told them, sensing their relief. “They want to keep her here another hour or so, just to be safe, but you guys are welcome to come back with me if you’d like.”
“Does she want company?” Feyre asked, edging to her eldest sister’s side. “We don’t want to intrude—”
“She asked for you all. No intrusion,” Az interrupted her.
Cassian swallowed, his eyes looking down at the small thing in the crook of his elbow. “You know we all heard the firefighter…is the baby okay?”
He had a feeling one of them would ask, but he wanted to make sure Elain was present for it. So, he said instead, “Everyone is fine. We can talk more in her room.” Turning on his heel, he headed back toward Elain’s private room, knowing they’d follow him closely.
Opening the door, he caught Elain looking intently out the window, seemingly oblivious to the world around her. “Love,” he called out to her, making her snap out of her reverie and turn to face him. “Our siblings are here.”
Her smile lit up his entire chest, despite the current circumstances. Gods, she was radiant when she smiled at him like that.
He held the door open, letting their family shuffle in. Nesta and Feyre made a beeline right to either side of her, gripping her in a firm hug.
“Are you all right?” Nesta asked again, cupping her cheeks in her palms.
Elain laughed slightly. “Yes, I’m fine.” Her eyes landed on his at the foot of her bed and he nodded at her, answering her silent question. One small hand swept down over the slight swell of her belly. “We’re all fine,” she added, a bit more shyly.
“I can’t believe you two are pregnant already,” Rhys stated, resting a palm on her lower leg.
Az laughed. “Strong swimmers,” he boasted.
“Asshole,” Cassian muttered. It wasn’t a secret that he and Nesta had struggled a bit to get pregnant. His wife was, apparently, just incredibly fertile.
Elain just shook her head, eyes rolling at the exchange.
“How far along are you?” Feyre asked, interrupting what she knew was going to be another ridiculous argument.
“Fifteen weeks. Or just over,” she answered.
Nesta blinked in surprise. “Do you know what you’re having?”
Her lips quirked up in the corner as she eyed him. “A boy.”
Their family erupted into congratulatory shouts for them both, grabbing them into hugs. Az waited until they quieted down before announcing, “And a girl.”
All four heads swiveled to him.
Silence descended upon their family for a few tense moments before Rhys finally demanded, “Explain!”
“We’re having a boy and a girl.”
He could see the lightbulbs going off above their heads. It was rather humorous to watch them connect the dots.
“You’re having twins?” Cassian breathed, eyes wide as saucers.
Elain chuckled at their expense. “Yes, my husband infested me with his superseed for two babies.”
Azriel barked out a laugh. “You’re one to talk miss fertile as fuck.”
Their family erupted into a fit of hysterics at the exchange and that brought the largest smile to his face. Elain caught his grin, offering him one of her own. Fuck, he loved her so damn much and he couldn’t wait to have his two little ones welcomed into such a loving family.
He still had to handle Elias, still needed to confirm who else was involved in the hit on them, but he pushed that aside and focused on this moment with his pregnant wife and their siblings. Az would get his revenge…just not today.
So hiiii this is 🫔 Anon once more! I'm glad the A/B/O angst was a hit and here I bring more angsty thoughts
So Dead Disco AU where Darling is pregnant but this time nothing bad happens!
You're pregnant and despite not being able to have your meds, the guys and and you manage around it. Picture them randomly kissing Darling's forehead in passing and Simon listening to the baby's heartbeat when he has insomnia. Pampering you: rubbing your feet when they're achy and swollen, standing right behind you, carefully lifting your belly, relieving some of the pressure on your back. Running for late night snacks because you're craving pickles and cheese. Telling (and showing) you how gorgeous and hot you are because you are feeling insecure once you start to show. On base, right beside Darling's photograph in their quarters there's also the picture of an ultrasound that's replaced whenever you have a new appointment with the doctor.
Everything's fine. You're just two weeks away from giving birth and this is the last op before they use all their saved up leave to care for you and the baby. You can still remember how happy you felt watching Johnny paint the nursery in green, while Simon assembled the furniture. You giggled at the thought of Simon collecting every plushie he saw that ended up on the dresser. Or Johnny thinking about every possible name for the baby.
Everything's fine, your obgyn has the team for the birth ready, you already have a bag ready to leave for the hospital. You're just waiting for Simon and Johnny to return.
And then. Someone knocks at your door, early in the morning. Something dreadful sits in the pit of your stomach because who the hell would knock on your door so early, but you try to convince yourself the guys forgot their keys. You try.
But then, when you open your door to John Price standing there with a mournful look on his face, you can only comprehend few words in between the ringing on your ears:
... Simon... MIA... rescuing... Johnny... MIA
Hope you're having a good day Peach, k now I'll go, byeeee
– 🫔 Anon, currently running away from the scene
🏃🏃🏃
I have absolutely zero bandwidth to write anything for this right now and I’m pretty sad about it. However I would hate to deprive everyone else of 🫔 anon’s incredible brain, so please enjoy this beautiful suffering.
Okay I lied a little, I have some bandwidth I guess. A tiny amount.
I just think about Price being the one to have to deliver the news. Your knees buckle and he catches you, trying to hold you while you completely lose it, sobbing into his starched uniform about how he better be lying, and how could he let your guys go missing, and why isn’t he out there right now looking for them. The stress triggers early labor, and then you’re fully panicking, terrified of having to do this without them, while also being terrified they’re never coming back.
Maybe they do.
Maybe only one of them does.
Maybe they don’t.
If someone had told Y/N six weeks ago that she’d be considering a move back to Kansas, she’d have laughed loudly in their face. Still, she’d checked out the vacancy at Lawrence Memorial, and she had to admit that fewer hours and much less stress for the same salary was highly appealing.
In Chicago, Y/N worked a sixty-hour week. The other twelve were expected, but the overtime was nice. If she went to Lawrence, she’d be working a standard forty-eight-hour week with the option of overtime. Even considering those optional hours, she’d still be working a maximum of sixty hours a week in a hospital in a much smaller city. That, and being close to her family and friends, convinced Y/N to apply for the job. Now here she was, a week later, at the car rental desk in Kansas City airport, ready to drive the hour journey to her hometown for an interview.
Y/N felt a little guilty that no one knew she was coming, but she had to return to Chicago tonight for a shift. She wanted nothing more than to see Uncle Bobby and Jody. There were so many thoughts, feelings, and doubts running through her mind, and she knew they’d be quick to calm her down and call her out on all the bullshit.
She still wasn’t entirely convinced this was a good idea, and the somersaults ravaging her insides seemed to be backing that up. She scoffed at how pathetically childish she was acting, suddenly realising that although she’d made a good life in Chicago, she hadn’t made a home. Dean was, and always would be, home. And Dean was in Lawrence.
Y/N wasn’t naïve enough to think Dean was sitting around waiting for her to come home. They’d promised each other they’d move on. And she tried. She tried so hard to keep just one of her promises to him. The problem was, she couldn’t give him up. She didn’t want to. She’d only ever loved and wanted Dean freaking Winchester.
She took the Lawrence exit and headed downtown. She smiled at the familiar streets, shops, boutiques, bars, and restaurants. Her nerves began to settle as happy memories flooded her. Being home spread warmth through her, and everything made perfect sense.
Stopping at a red light on West 6th Street at its junction with Maine Street, she smiled widely at the diner where she and Dean had their first date. It was just as thriving as it’d been fifteen years ago. Y/N’s smile became softer when she saw Uncle Bobby’s engine pull up across the junction, heading south and back to the station. He was sitting shotgun with the same grumpy scowl she remembered from childhood, and the guilt of not telling him she was here weighed heavy on her chest.
When the lights changed and the engine moved forward, her heart stopped when her eyes landed on Dean. He was laughing at something Benny told him, and she was thankful they were too distracted to notice her. What stunned her most was that he was even more handsome now than when they were teenagers.
Y/N smiled; her mind made up that she was coming home if she was lucky enough to get this job. She had to try. She owed them both that.
Tumblr media
Charge Nurse Rowena Macleod led the interview and couldn’t have been nicer. Meg Masters was the HR representative overseeing the process and had a kind face. However, Y/N could sense that she had a mischievous streak hidden in there.
Both women were cheery and friendly, leaving her with no doubts that they genuinely cared about their staff. Rowena’s passion for nursing also shone through, and Y/N hoped she’d get to work with her.
“Okay, dearie,” the petite redhead smiled. “Last few questions. I hope you don’t mind. These are a wee bit more personal,” Rowena smiled kindly, and Y/N exhaled as quietly as she could, trying to ease the nerves.
“You’re a highly qualified nurse only a year away from being a doctor. Why didn’t you continue to medical school?” Rowena’s face was kind, and her tone held no judgement.
“I thought about it and was going to, but I did my final nursing placement in an ER. One night, I stayed on after my shift ended to clock come clinical hours towards my final exams, and we had a major incident. The bleachers at the University of Illinois football field collapsed, and over a hundred students were injured. The doctors were slammed, and the hospital closed to new patients.
“It wasn’t long until the families started to show up outside the hospital, and they weren’t allowed in as we were over capacity and had patients lining the halls, waiting for the next doctor to be free. That night, it became my role to update the patient’s families. I realised I thrived in helping people in a way that was much deeper than diagnosing and treating.
“Treatment of patients will always be the most important thing we do as nurses, but talking and listening to them and providing comfort to them and their families is just as important, and doctors can lose sight of that,” Y/N relaxed, knowing she’d said all she needed to and her passion had shone through.
“Our doctors were amazing that night. They didn’t lose a single patient, but as soon as they moved on to the next one, they’d forgotten everything about the person in the room next door. The nurses knew their names, their medical histories, the medication they’d been given, and who’d been treating them. It was then that I knew I didn’t want to go further. I was already where I was meant to be.”
Rowena glanced towards Meg, the brief slip of a smile showing she was impressed. Had Y/N not been watching the redhead, she’d have missed it.
“Thank you, Y/N,” Rowena smiled kindly. “Lastly, why are you looking to move from one of the best hospitals in the Midwest to a small city in Kansas?” Again, Rowena’s tone held no judgement.
“I was born here. In this hospital, actually,” Y/N smiled. “My mother died in a house fire when I was little, and in his grief, my father became an alcoholic and took his grief and anger out on me. My name at the time was Y/N Y/L/N. When I turned eighteen, I legally changed my last name to Singer, which was my mother’s maiden name.
“I recently learned that my father doesn’t have much time left, and it’s made me reevaluate my life and the direction I want it to go. I still have family and friends here, and I’ve stayed away from them for too long. So, although I initially thought about only being here until my father passes, I’ve decided it’s time for me to come home.”
“I’m sorry, Y/N, and thank you for your honesty,” Meg said kindly.
Y/N could only nod in response, all words failing her at that moment. Too many people in this town knew her, and even more knew her father. Eventually, it would’ve come up, and she didn’t want to lie to a potential new employer.
“We’ll have a decision for you in a few days,” Meg continued. “It was lovely meeting with you.”
“Thank you for seeing me,” Y/N smiled warmly.
“Oh no,” Meg chuckled. “Thank you for seeing us! I know you have to travel straight back to Chicago for a shift,” she finished and stood to shake her hand.
“My goodness, dear! You don’t even have time to visit your family?” Rowena asked sadly.
“No, and that’s why they don’t even know I’m here!” Y/N chuckled. “Well, that, and I didn’t want to get their hopes up about a permanent homecoming too soon!”
“I can understand that, Y/N,” Rowena squeezed her forearm. “Have a safe trip home, and we’ll speak to you in a few days.”
“Thank you. It was great to meet you both,” Y/N smiled and offered the women one last handshake before returning to the rental car. It had gone better than she’d thought, and she knew it would be a long few days of waiting.
Tumblr media
The next few days were absolute hell. When Y/N reported for her shift on her return to Chicago, it was one major incident after another. A drunk driver thought it was a good idea to get behind the wheel and drive down the wrong side of the freeway. After that, a derelict and condemned building collapsed, the floor unable to withstand the weight of the hundreds of people attending an illegal rave. Next came victims of a fire in one of the student accommodation buildings. And to top the night off, just as her shift was about to end, the charge nurse begged her to cover the day shift as a few staff had called off with stomach flu.
When she finally got home from the thirty-hour shift, she showered, ate the leftover pizza Pamela had left for her and went straight to bed. She wanted to sleep for a week solid, but in eighteen short hours, she needed to be back at the hospital for another damn shift. At least she was finally going back onto day shift rotation. Small mercies and all that.
Y/N climbed into bed, pulled the covers up to her chin, and curled up in a ball to get comfortable. She groaned as her joints popped and cracked and her muscles finally relaxed. With a long, loud huff of air, the remaining tension left her body, and she drifted into a deep and dreamless sleep.
Tumblr media
A shrill noise roused her to consciousness, and she blinked at the clock. Y/N groaned in annoyance, realising she’d only been asleep for six hours and grabbed her phone, ready to give someone a piece of her damn mind.
She frowned as she recognised it was a Lawrence area code calling. Taking a breath, she tried to bury the thought that whoever was on the other end of that phone was calling to tell her that her father was dead.
“Hello?” Y/N answered, sounding much stronger than she felt.
“Good morning, Ms Singer. It’s Meg Masters from Lawrence Memorial Hospital. How are you?”
“Morning Meg, I’m good, thank you. How are you?”
“I’m doing great! I’m calling to tell you that Rowena feels like you would be a fantastic addition to the current ER nursing staff, and we would be honoured to have you working here. So, what do you say?” Meg said excitedly. Y/N couldn’t see it, but she could hear the grin in Meg’s voice.
“Oh wow!” Y/N chuckled. “Thank you! Yes, I’d love to join the team. I can’t wait to get started!”
“Great! We look forward to having a nurse with your passion and knowledge on our staff. I know you’ll need some time to move and settle, so I’m proposing your start date be four weeks on Monday; that’s the second.”
“That will be more than enough time. Thank you, Meg,” Y/N smiled.
“No problem, Y/N. Rowena would like to speak with you sometime this week to review some of the finer details and any contract negotiations you have.”
“Of course,” Y/N smiled and gave Meg her shift pattern for the week before ending the call. This is it! Home, sweet home! Y/N smiled as she scrolled through her contacts, finding the person she needed to speak to.
I got a wholesome omegaverse request
The sisters are alphas and their female omega haven’t gotten their heat, turns out they're pregnant.
can you do how the sisters would react to their mates being pregnant and how do they help during and after the omega’s pregnancy?
-Rambunctious anon
Of course! Let’s get into it! ;)
Masterlist
Bela
She’s so relieved when she finds out you’re pregnant. She had been so worried about you!
With this, she is also extremely happy that you’re at last bearing her brood
As soon as she finds out, she becomes even more protective of you. Almost ridiculously so
She is with you nearly 24/7, and keeps you with her whenever she can
You wake up to breakfast in bed on many days, with many nutrients included in what breakfast she picked for you
Often she will ask to help you shower or bathe, and massage you. She loves to rub her hands along your stomach. She can’t wait for her little one! She’s so excited at the thought of holding them even early on in the pregnancy
Not wanting to have you stay on your own, she will often request you stay with her as she works. It’s not that she doesn’t let you have personal space, she just feels so overwhelmingly protective of you and your future little one
Bela tries to adapt her schedule to allow her more time with you
She is the perfect gentlewoman
Upon noticing the smell of blood makes you nauseous now, she personally makes sure you smell none of it. A difficult task at castle Dimitrescu
Her chin is always clear of it, she forbids Alcina to drink any during dinner when you’re present, even wipes her sisters’s chins clean multiple times a day. You chuckle whenever you hear their banshee-like scream throughout the castle, as though they were cats wrestling to avoid a bath
She makes sure you take your vitamins and massages you plenty during your pregnancy and insists on regular check ins with Donna or Mother Miranda, the only two choices regarding a doctor you have
She also makes sure you suffer from no stress at all
When the morning sickness sets in, she strokes your back and keeps a fresh, empty bowl to puke in near the bed and in the bathroom
At the first signs of your mood becoming…unstable, she makes sure to act more cautious around you. She minds her words and actions, thinks them through to avoid triggering your many emotions
Upon holding her little one in her arms, she cries happy tears. They’re so perfect and tiny. Alcina is thrilled to be a grandmother, and Bela often checks up on you to ensure you are alright
It takes a few weeks until she stops being this protective of you, and it takes years for her to let her little one out of her sight
Most of all, she showers you and your child in love
Cassandra
She freaks out when she finds out you’re pregnant
Sure, she knows what her knot does to you, but the shock upon finding out for sure makes her feel lightheaded
Is she even ready to be a parent?
After a couple of hours of freaking out, she kicks herself, it seems. Her fears are not a priority to her, you and your unborn whelp are
She too becomes extremely protective of you, and aggressive should she feel that you are threatened. The longer your pregnancy goes on, the more intense this becomes. Often you’ve had to hold her back and stroke her hair when even her family members were around you
If she could, she would have likely wrapped you in a protective bubble
She often holds your stomach and rubs her cheek against it. For the sake of not embarrassing herself, she holds back the primal urge to lick your stomach almost daily once your stomach grows round
She makes sure you have everything you need nearby. Especially in later stages of the pregnancy, she doesn’t want you on your feet a lot
She isn’t the best with words and has often earned herself the sleeping-in-the-guest-room-treatment when your emotions started acting up
She has made it a rule to keep Daniela at least three arms lengths away. She loves her little sister, but knows how wild she can be
Early on she already begins to modify the room next to hers to turn it into a suitable crib and playroom
She is surprisingly skilled at setting up the crib and mobile, and works on tiny tables with round edges and such for when your offspring grew
She suggests Alcina for the child’s name, but is comfortable with you choosing it. She just cares about you and your little one’s health. And, she looks forward to teaching your child how to hunt. They couldn’t ask for a better mentor
Daniela
Over. The. Moon!
She’s going to be a Mommy?! You will be?! She’s excited!
She nearly squishes you in a hug
Immediately starts baby talking to your stomach, even in early stages of the pregnancy. She doesn’t care if the baby hasn’t even developed yet. She’s too happy!
She is also becoming a lot more cautious
She makes sure to be less hyper with her movements, worried she will be too rough in her excitement
Daniela makes sure to provide you with everything you could ask for. A bucket to puke, water, candy, chocolate, ice cream, cuddles and kisses, the entire ordeal
She’ll hold your hair back when you puke and tell you with a wide smile how beautiful you are
During the emotional stages, she is also affected. She’s sensitive and often the two of you cry. It never lasts though, and you always end up falling asleep in one another’s arms again
Daniela holds your stomach at every opportunity she gets. She is flabbergasted the first time she feels a kick
The name! Oh, the name!
She loves talking about possible names with you. These range from ridiculous ones to serious ones, poetic ones she found in books and meaningful ones. She wants the perfect name for your perfect child
Unlike her sisters, she will absolutely take Alcina’s help at every opportunity
Helping with the pregnancy pains and morning sickness? Yes, Alcina already knows ways to soothe the human body. Daniela is fast to write them all down
Ease stress? Oh, the countess would know. Daniela follows her advice eagerly to keep you positively stress free
Best meals? Alcina lists them and Daniela delivers them to you. She does often gag at the food combinations your pregnant self tries, though
When the baby is there, she can hardly let go. She wants to hold her little one all the time
When your nipples begin to get so sore from nursing, she even takes pills from Mother Miranda or Donna to help her lactate and nurses your little one instead. She absolutely loves it
And, of course, she sometimes asks Alcina to look after your baby to ensure you’re all right. She will take perfect care of you and speak many praises about you and your shared baby
Hello could you do more fics about ballister head injury?(love your worke❤️)
THIS RESPAWNED IN MY DRAFTS HOLY SHIT
I'm so glad you love my work thank you so much for this ask 🩷 sorry it took so long but as I had said in another post, my Tumblr ate it for breakfast and it was disappeared from my askbox and drafts. But it reappeared!!! Please enjoy your very late drabble request <3
Cw: seizures, brain injury
Ballister leaned against Ambrosius, closing his eyes. “You sleepy, Bal?”
“Mhm.” Ballister rubbed his eyes. “I couldn't get to sleep last night. Kept having headaches and weird dreams.”
“That's no good, babe. Try to take it easy today. Do you think it's your head?”
“He just said it was his head, duh.” Nimona cut in. She'd been back for the past couple months, and she and Ambrosius were still getting used to each other. Ballister chuckled. “It's probably fine.” Ambrosius made a worried face.
Eight months ago, when Ballister was on the run, he'd suffered considerable head trauma, several times, one after another after another. The whole thing left Ballister with considerable brain damage in the frontal and temporal lobes especially. It was especially significant in the first few weeks after everything happened, when he was often unsteady on his feet, spoke with slurred speech, struggled with short term memory, understanding rapid or unclear speech, and extreme emotional outbursts where he would be extremely afraid, sad, angry, or happy without apparent cause. He'd also started having seizures at that time. Ambrosius learned to deal with them, but he always hoped each one would be Ballister's last. The doctor said they'd stop eventually, but they never knew when eventually would come.
Thankfully, since then, his brain had healed tremendously. Still, Ambrosius couldn't help but worry when Ballister had anything going on with his head.
“Alright, well, just be careful, okay? Don't strain yourself.” He kissed Ballister's cheek.
Nimona cackled. “Come on, Nemesis. I don't think the boss is gonna let some dumb headache slow him down! He's not made of glass, you know. He's ten percent solid steel and a hundred percent badass!”
“My arm makes up five percent of my weight, Nimona, also it's made of titanium.” Ballister smiled at her.
“See? Even cooler.” She returned to what she was doing and Ambrosius sighed. Maybe he was being a little overly anxious.
But as the day went on, Ballister seemed off. Foggy, distracted, a little bit uncharacteristically emotional or snippy sometimes. Even Nimona noticed, Ambrosius could see the puzzlement in her face even if she said nothing. It all came to a head later that day, they were at a park and they were noticed by members of the public, who started their usual barrage, asking frankly triggering questions and requesting photographs and signatures.
Ambrosius was used to all that, but while Ballister was somewhat accustomed to it, it always stressed him out. Ambrosius managed to fish his lover and Nimona away from the paparazzi and back to the safety of their vehicle.
“You guys alright?” Ambrosius started it up, flying through the airways. Ballister didn't answer, he glanced over. “Bal?”
His lover looked distant, blinking fast, looking around in a haze. “Do you, lemon?”
“What?” Oh shit. “Nimona, take his arm off!” Ambrosius began landing the vehicle in a safe place.
“What?” She looked quizzically from the backseat.
“Now! He's having a seizure, the prosthetic is wired to his nerves and muscle, the electrical signals can make it go nuts!”
Ballister knew a seizure was coming when he tasted lemon out of nowhere. They needed to get it together quickly, he was already having trouble speaking.
Quickly Nimona reached forward and disconnected the arm, and not a moment too soon. Ballister’s face twisted and his head began to jerk, along with his right leg, a rhythmic back and forth motion. Once Ambrosius was safely parked, he grabbed the blanket from the back seat and cushioned Ballister's head, and started a timer on his phone. A car was not the ideal place for this to happen, he wasn't completely sure of the protocol. Ballister was at least buckled, so he couldn't collapse into the dashboard. “It's okay, Bal.” He whispered softly. Everything will be okay.”
Nimona's eyes were wide with terror. After sixty-two seconds, Ballister went still, his eyes blearily gazing in front of him, foggy. Ambrosius stroked his hair. “It's over, love. It's over. You're okay.”
Nimona swallowed. “What happened to him?”
Ambrosius exited the vehicle and came around to open Ballister's door so he could more closely check up on him. He unbuckled him and helped him out of the car, supporting most of his weight. “Nimona, let me lay him in the back, he needs to lay on his side.”
Nimona moved out of the way. “What happened to him?”
Once Ballister was laid safely in a recovery position, Ambrosius sat beside the car and stroked his hair. “He had a seizure.”
“A seizure? I thought you had to be born with those. I've never seen him do this before.”
“He hit his head, a lot, after–” Ambrosius swallowed. “After what I did to him. It all added up, and left enough damage that this happens sometimes. Eventually it's supposed to go away, but we have no idea when. He's okay, he just won't be able to talk for a few minutes. Will you sit back here with him? Just make sure he's breathing okay, and try to comfort him while I drive home. Sometimes he gets a little emotional. You can give his arm back, too.” He swallowed. He wanted to comfort Ballister, but he needed to get them home safely. Ballister could recover better at home.
Nimona didn't seem to know what to do, but for once, she didn't argue. Ambrosius drove home hearing her speak softer than he ever had, in a reassuring voice.
When they got home, they managed to assist Ballister inside. He could now understand speech and get out a word here and there, but he was mostly disoriented and exhausted. Once Ambrosius checked that his breathing was normal, and he didn't have any severe bites in his mouth, he tucked him into their bed and let him rest, setting a timer to wake him up and check on him.
Nimona looked gaunt, she paced the living room.
“Aren't you a thousand years old? I thought you'd be used to things like seizures. This wasn't a bad one, thankfully. He's okay, you don't have to worry.” Ambrosius was a hypocrite. He was extremely worried.
She shook her head. “Not that, I mean, I've seen them before, they're normal, I've known thousands of people– but I didn't realize— I didn't realize someone could hurt their head so easily.” She whispered.
“What do you mean?”
She swallowed. “He got hit in the face with a rock when the Institute blew up. And I dragged him home. And I didn't even try to make sure he didn't hit his head! He was getting smacked into curbs left and right and– and I thought it was funny!” She rubbed her face. “I haven't been close with a human in so long, I forgot how fragile they were, how even something like that– it's partially my fault, don't you get it? I was careless and he hit his head and now he's suffering because of me.”
Ambrosius swallowed. Ballister told him about how Nimona said he'd hit his head on the curb when she took him home, and yes, it had contributed to several in a series of head injuries. He sat on the couch. “Nimona, it's not your fault. I knew about that. The doctor said the concussions hadn't helped, but most of the damage was from the debris, from Todd beating him up, and from when he fell through the stadium floor. It's just– how it is.”
Nimona sat on the couch beside him and sniffed. “You don't understand. I forgot how easily humans can be hurt. How easily they can die.”
“Oh…” Ambrosius looked down. “Well, for what it's worth, I don't think he'd be here at all if it wasn't for you. Humans are weak, but Ballister is strong. He's kind, resilient, and forgiving– I know that better than anyone. He's gonna be fine. Don't beat yourself up.”
Nimona sniffed and smiled at him. “Thanks, nemesis.”
It takes Eddie a month for him to properly admit his feelings for you, if they could even be considered that. It’s nonstop banter, a back and forth fight for the last word during every shift, and Eddie’s fallen in love despite how much he despised himself for it. It wasn’t because of you—you were everything you should be, carefree and resilient, and Eddie’s never encountered someone like you before. He just knows that normal isn’t possible for him, not anymore. It’s taken him a while to come to terms with it, but he knows that it has to be that way. There were no happy endings for Eddie Munson.
It wasn’t without your constant pestering and teasing. Eddie had charmed his way into your daily life quickly and what was strictly a working relationship turned into a weird, blossoming friendship that you welcomed greatly—he did save your life after all.
And despite your obviously different lifestyles, Eddie still ventures out in the day regardless of the annoyance the sun causes or the odd stares he gets for wearing a thick leather jacket in the middle of a sweltering summer. You do still try to stick to nights most of the time when it’s not spent buried in your work and leaving you both covered in a medley of different types of blood and creature goo.
When he does confess his feelings, it’s quick and you almost miss it. Eddie is hoping you do.
His arms wrap around you out of instinct when your feet slip out from under you, cursing at your clumsy nature and the old, dilapidated flooring of the house you were stuck in for the night, scoping out the nest from across the way.
Eddie doesn’t worry much about where his hands land, only trying to keep you from further injuring yourself, his palms catching you just at the underside of your breasts, squeezed securely over your ribs.
“Careful,” You tease breathlessly, heart skipping from the idea of falling flat on your ass, “I might think you’re starting to like me.”
“I do,” Eddie mumbles mindlessly, effortlessly pulling you upright and steadying your feet—your heart is pounding in his ears, an overwhelming whooshing sound that makes his head hurt, “Why wouldn’t I?”
“No, I meant,” You catch yourself saying, but quickly shove it back down, “—it was just a joke, nevermind.”
“That too.” Eddie says softly, letting go and pressing the flashlight back into your tight fists, still tense from the fall.
You smile to yourself—and if Eddie had the ability to blush, if his blood was still warm and flowing through his body, his cheeks might’ve flushed a soft pink, but the embarrassment was still there regardless.
“Duly noted, batboy.” You remark, earning an exasperated sigh from Eddie.
“I thought you said you’d stop calling me that,” Eddie complains, “I don’t even turn into a bat or anything.”
You shrug, “I just like seeing you smile.” Eddie offers a subtle smile in response, like he’s trying to hold it back. “You don’t do it often.”
It doesn’t take Eddie long to find out that every emotion was uncontrollable around you, a constant fight to keep whatever burgeoning monster that was clawing to come out at bay. He couldn’t hurt you—it would kill him, but he knew that part of him was always there regardless. It was his nature now.
Tumblr media
You knew there had been a breakthrough when Eddie finally gave in and drove you back to his place after weeks of begging, several sweet and awkward dates on his part, and enough slasher movies snuggled up on your couch for him to cave and allow you both a change of scenery. Not that it was different by much—there was no coffin or secret dungeon where he held his victims. It was a plain apartment, filled with all the necessary furniture and blackout curtains. He kept things low-light, but still enough to see throughout.
“I can turn the light on if you want.” Eddie tells you, feeling obligated to tend to your needs rather than his own.
“No,” You shake your head gently, turning to tug at the leather bracelet cuffed around his wrist, “—you don’t have to do that…thing.”
“Thing?” Eddie asks with slight intrigue, his hands winding around the length of your waist as he pulls you toward him gently, your arms wrapping around his midsection. You were used to his temperature now—never too cold, never too warm.
“Accommodating me all the time,” You explain, head tilting subtly to peer up at him, “my entire life is filled with uncomfortable and weird experiences—let me have this.”
Eddie’s puzzled again, eyebrow raising in question.
“You—“ You emphasize, pressing a soft, unexpected kiss to his lips, “I like you—all of you, even if that means I have to sit here and kiss you in the dark.”
“Oh?” Eddie asks with a smirk, a small peak at his sharpened fang hidden behind his rather stoic face—they’re only a little more elongated than a normal human’s and it was easy to dismiss, which is why his kind blended into society so well.
They were all normal people underneath it, aside from the obvious enhancements and obstacles that came along with it.
You nod eagerly, reaching up to glide your fingers along the side of his neck until they bury into the curls at the nape of his neck, pulling him to you in an even fuller kiss. Eddie’s always attempted to keep things mostly safe, only ever above the waist and always asking before he touches you—like he might break you.
And you couldn’t handle it. You need more, want more. All of it. But, Eddie doesn’t know how to do all of this—relationships, or whatever this was. He doesn’t deserve you and he knows that, he’s still waiting for you to slip through his fingertips and the sudden realization to hit him that you’re just another figment in his imagination.
“More,” You breath against his lips, his keys dropping loudly on the counter as you two walk clumsily to his couch, never pulling away from one another, “please?”
Eddie breathes through his nose sharply, lifting you up and onto his lap as he plops to the couch in one fluid motion, his swiftness unnecessary and frankly, a little showy. Still, it makes you laugh against him, pulling away to force his face up to look at you, dark eyes glossed over. The brown specs are gone, replaced with something more sinister, even darker veins and lines spreading around the white of his eyes. It’s a stark contrast to his relaxed face and soft features. It doesn’t scare you in the slightest, thumbs rubbing along the corner of his eyes—he blinks once, twice, and suddenly they’re back to normal.
“Sorry,” He apologized softly, noticing the curious and pointed expression on your face, he squeezes his eyes shut tighter and shook his head, “It’s freaky looking, I know.”
“Not at all,” You smile, waiting for him to peek his eyes back open and look at you, “what is it—if you don’t mind me asking?”
Eddie chuckles awkwardly, “Uh, it just happens…sometimes.”
You give him a skeptical look but ignore it. He senses your apprehension and churning thoughts and shuts them out the only way he can think of, pressing his lips to yours in a bruising kiss, your own parting in a soft moan.
“God,” Eddie groans against your lips, “you sound so pretty.”
“I think you’re a little biased.” You snark at him, anxious fingers pushing at the shoulder of his jacket, forcing it down his arms.
Eddie takes a moment to remove it, tossing it on the floor carelessly, trying to find the quickest path possible back to your mouth, his hand cupping around the side of your face and under your jaw, exposing your neck to him openly.
He’s only drunk from the vein a few times in his short lifespan in the afterlife—a few horrible people who definitely deserved it, but blood bags have been his main supply, dealing with the bitter aftertaste if it meant not having to spare a human’s life without justifiable reason. He can feel the mistake he’s making as soon as his mouth latches to your skin, the pulse thrumming against his tongue intensely—and the smell, he can’t even fully describe it. It’s sweet, mouthwatering, and all heightened by the soft mewls of pleasure you were releasing above him, hips grinding against his slowly, a subconscious movement.
The pain creeps back in slowly, the insatiable need, and Eddie grunts against your skin in an effort to hide his obvious discomfort. His fingers squeeze at your hips, causing you to pull back and force him to peer up at you, fangs extended slightly at eyes returning to their previous state, but much less restrained.
You suddenly realized why he’d held off for so long, too afraid that you’d run the other direction, terrified of him.
“Hey,” You soothe him, allowing him to lose himself for a moment in your eyes, “is it too much?”
“It’s not just this,” He explains through a pained look, face pinched up in concentration, “the blood, your blood—ever since I healed you, it’s like—“
“We’re connected?” You ask hesitantly.
“Sort of, “ He chuckles tensely, “but whenever you’re around me, it’s hard to ignore it.”
And maybe you’re missing the point, but you’re not sure you understand.
Eddie sighs, “Sometimes, it feels like there’s this voice in the back of my head and if I let it take over—I’m afraid of what will happen.”
You brush the curls away from his face, dragging your thumb along the furrow in his brow, “You won’t hurt me. If you wanted to you would have—I know I’ve pissed you off plenty.”
“I’ve killed people.” Eddie admits, “And I enjoyed it. I can’t outrun that part of me—“
“Do you want to kill me?” You ask curiously, feeling your heart race.
“Never,” Eddie replies adamantly, “but—I want to be honest with you and I don’t want to freak you out.”
“Eddie,” You deadpan, “are you forgetting what I do for a living? Nothing can freak me out anymore.”
Eddie squints at the sudden surge of pain, like a horrible headache that won’t quit, “Look, I only remember wanting blood this bad the first night after I died—I was alone and scared and it felt like my body was on fire.”
“Does it hurt that bad?” You ask with a tone of worry and Eddie can’t comprehend how you’re still worried about him despite the horrible things he’s admitting to you.
“Close enough,” He nods weakly, “but it’s different—I wanted to kill that person, I wanted to watch them take their last breath. But you, this—it’s deeper.”
You remember how it felt drinking Eddie’s blood—while necessary to keep you alive, it was nothing like you expected, not that you had anything to compare it to, but it had to be weirdly intimate for Eddie if it felt that way to you too.
“You can.” You tell him softly, honesty dripping in your tone, not wasting a second to consider how this could affect things.
“Kill you?” Eddie asks incredulously, “Why would I want to do that?”
“Shit, no—“ You laugh slightly, covering your face with your hands briefly in shame. “I meant…if you want a taste.”
“Don’t say that,” Eddie shakes his head, “I don’t, I can’t—“
You trace your finger along the line of his lips and he parts them slightly, letting you press the pad of your thumb against his canine.
“And if I told you I wanted it?” You ask teasingly, tipping his chin up slightly.
Eddie takes an unsteady breath, closing his eyes slowly.
“Don’t do this to me,” Eddie begs softly, pulling you even closer, “You don’t understand how badly I want you, sweetheart—and not just like that.”
“I think I do,” You lean into his space, breath ghosting over the side of his cheek as you lean in, lips tracing the shell of his ear, “so are you going to keep me waiting?”
Eddie still looks hesitant, eyebrows creasing in annoyance at his own thoughts fighting in his head.
“I trust you, Eddie.” You tell him, “You won’t hurt me.”
Eddie moves slowly, painfully so—brushing the hair away from your neck until the line of your neck is exposed to him, vein throbbing underneath skin, his mouth watering at the sight.
“If I hurt you—“ Eddie starts, voice husked over with a soft lisp.
“I can handle you,” You remind him, “don’t worry.”
He kisses you soft, slowly, and it’s a wonderful distraction before his teeth piercing your skin, gasping at the sting of it—a quick pinch before your body is consumed with euphoria, an unattainable drug that has you bordering on the edge of consciousness.
Eddie moans against your skin, blood flowing into his mouth as he swallows it down greedily, hands squeezing tighter around your waist. You give in fully, resting the weight of yourself against him as your hands fall to his chest.
“Fuck,” You curse softly, “that’s—holy shit.”
The pain is lingering in the back of your mind, but the connection is stronger, drowned out by the intimacy of blood-sharing. Eddie has nothing to compare it to, but it’s ingrained into his mind forever. When he finally pulls away, the sight is jarring—mouth covered in your own blood, making a mess of both you and him, blood seeping from the holes in your skin.
“Shit,” He curses, quickly pricking his thumb until a droplet of blood falls, pressing into your lips without thinking, “here, take it.”
Your tongue presses against the pad of it, sucking the blood into your mouth, the wound disappearing within seconds. It still amazes Eddie, regardless of how many times he’s seen it happen. It’s like a fever dream he can’t escape. It also does nothing to satiate the deep, growing need for you in the pit of his stomach as your lips close around his finger, accepting him without question.
He looks up in wonder, brow creased from the pressure of your lips, watching your eyes fall close as you shoved his finger just a tad deeper into your mouth, waiting for him to find a reason to pull away. He never does.
“You look ridiculous.” You note, pulling his hand away from your mouth and wiping at his blood-stained face, smearing it onto your own hand. Eddie pouts slightly and you add a sweet, “But, it’s kind of charming.”
“Oh, so the blood is working for you?” Eddie jokes, rubbing his fingers along the soft skin of your back, up and under your shirt. “If you think that’s messy you should see me when—“
You press a careful finger to his lips, shaking your head with a heated gaze, “I’ll be the judge of that.”
Eddie smiles again, an unrestrained action that lights up his entire face, feeling happy for the moment even if he knows it’s fleeting.
“I feel…calmer,” Eddie admits, “I mean, it’s still there but just—less, I guess?”
“So,” You lean forward, chest grazing against his face as you lean his head back, forcing him to rest it on the back of the couch as he stared up at you, “does that mean I can have my way with you?”
“Let’s start slow,” Eddie chuckles, “I haven’t really been in this situation since—“
You nod knowingly, a subtle motion, “But, practice helps, right?”
Eddie leans forward suddenly, nipping gently at the underside of your jaw before pulling you into an unexpected kiss, tongue teasing over the seam of your lips, “And I think we need lots of it.”
Tamlin said he did not care.
Lucien and Elain both said they didn’t care.
But Flora did.
The stress was evident on her face as she turned in front of the mirror, gaze dropping down to her bare stomach. She was starting to show. New clothes would be in soon, her old ones already feeling snug. She didn’t want to despise the babe in her belly but gods it was hard to not let her worries get to her.
She was Tamlin’s wife. She had a duty to him to have his heir. What would the court do if her babe came out with red hair or russet eyes? Their relationship wasn’t a secret. Everyone knew. But they’d been so careful and then Calanmai came and the one time she forgot to put contraceptives in her system, she ended up pregnant.
She hoped it was the first undiluted magic that conceived this child. Tamlin took her into the cave. They made love on that stone and released all that magic back into the world. What happened with Lucien and Elain after wasn’t under the same pull of ancient magic. But doubt plagued her. Her plants showed her there was no difference between the first wave of magic and after. It could easily be the same with her.
“Flora?” Tamlin’s voice dragged her out of her thoughts. Her gaze met his through the mirror. “Is everything alright?”
Tamlin stayed nervous about her condition. She knew why. He was worried she would fall into a depression or worse. He was constantly encouraging her to engage with the court, to go outside with Elain. It warred with his want to keep her inside and safe. His mistakes in the past haunted him. Even after all the time that passed.
“I just-“ she looked back at where her hand rested on her stomach. “You know I worry.”
“I don’t care what others may think. You know this.”
“They’ll talk, Tamlin,” tears built in her eyes. Her worries she had been holding in came tumbling out. “What good am I? If my first born is not your heir? This is a child, Tamlin. What if it is Lucien’s? What if it triggers something in Elain? They’re mates.”
“Flora.”
“I’m sorry.” Her voice cracked and tears spilt. “It’s awful to think these things, I know. I'm horrible.”
“You’re not horrible, my wildflower.” Tamlin came up to her, wrapping his arms around her. One hand splayed over her stomach. “How long have you felt like this?”
“Since I found out.”
She grabbed one of his arms with her hand to mentally steady herself. She hadn’t spoken out loud how she felt. She feigned excitement; they were so happy when her scent changed. She didn’t want to take that away from them just because she worried.
“Honey.” She winced at the sadness in his tone. “Why didn’t you say something sooner?”
“I didn’t want to upset you.”
“You’ll never upset me.” She felt him kiss the back of her head. “I know you worry but our babe is so loved already and that’s all that matters.”
She nodded and leaned back into the embrace of her husband. Tamlin was the most excited out of all of them. She just hoped she could match his enthusiasm sooner rather than later.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
She officially was showing and barely made it out alive from the Court announcement party. So many congratulations, each one meant well but still grated her. She was a perfect Lady of Spring, faking her smile and when someone did notice, it was explained off as hormones. Tam watched her the whole time, ready to scoop her up and out of the room if needed. She finally feigned tiredness and excused herself.
It was a relief to enter the empty hall. Though she was not alone for long. She made it up the stairs before running into one of the two people who put her in this predicament. Lucien’s gold eye clicked rapidly as he came up to her, studying her face. She had not seen him since his return this morning from visiting Day Court.
“How did it go?”
Flora rolled her eyes. “I swear if I hear one more congratulations I am going to vomit.”
”So it went well. Good.” He leaned in and kissed her forehead. “And how are you? How’s my little one?”
”I am tired and annoyed. And you don’t know for certain, if this babe is yours,” she snapped. She regretted it the second the words left her mouth. “The baby is fine, Lucien. I didn’t mean- I’m sorry. That was unkind of me.”
“It was.” He didn’t hide the hurt on his face.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that. I don’t mean that. I’m sorry.”  She looked down in shame. She’d never spoken to Lucien like that before. She was horrid.
“Flora, look at me, I do forgive you.” He reached his hand under her chin and tilted it up so she would look at him. “I get it and I’m sure the announcement party didn’t help.”
Her eyes watered. “It really didn’t. None of them have any idea. They all just assume this was planned. They all just assume this is Tamlin’s and when I try to correct them, they just -” She took a shaky breath and her hand went to the small bump poking out from her dress. “Tam says stress isn’t good for the baby.”
”It’s not,” Lucien replied. “If they’re mine, they might come out looking grumpy and be mistaken for Eris if you aren’t careful. Try explaining that to the court.”
That made her laugh. “You’re right.” She gave him a soft smile. “He’s a boy, by the way. Don’t tell Elain, she doesn’t know yet.”
Lucien’s grin beamed with likeness of the sun. “We’re having a boy?”
“Yes. We are having a boy.” She paused and bit her lip. She knew the answer but after the party, her worries continued to fall from her lips without warning. “If this is Tam’s baby, are you sure you aren’t going to be mad?”
Lucien sighed. “I’ve already told you, it doesn’t matter if he’s mine or Tam’s, he will be ours.” Lucien tapped his finger on her nose. “Get those thoughts out of your mind. Don’t let the courtiers get to you. And go tell Elain before I find her first. I won’t be able to help myself and she’ll be livid you told me first.”
Flora nodded and smiled again. Lucien always knew how to make her feel better. She stood on her toes and gave him a quick kiss before setting off to find Elain. He was right on that part; Elain was going to be livid she was the last to know.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Tamlin made her nap in a guest room citing he ‘had a surprise’ for her. She was too tired to question it. Five months in and between being either absolutely insatiable and exhausted, she took his word for it and laid down. It wasn’t until after dinner that night, he escorted her to their rooms, grinning the whole time.
“What did you do?” She asked, not able to suppress her own smile.
“Come see.”
They entered through the sitting room and into their bed chamber. Nothing looked different; Tamlin guided her forward into the next room and she gasped. The nursery was finished- and fully finished. Her hand went instantly to her stomach, where she felt the flutters of life moving inside her.
“It’s beautiful,” she blinked back her tears. “Oh, Tamlin.”
She called out things as she noticed them. The walls were painted a pretty light green. A bassinet in the middle and an oak crib against the wall near their room for later. Even the rug was beautiful- her favorite flowers stitched in throughout. Other furniture filled the room, all a deep oak like the crib. There was even a rocking chair and bookshelf by the window.
“Do you notice anything else?”
She frowned, looking up at her husband’s knowing smirk. She looked around the room again- everything was new. The room even smelled of wood still. She frowned harder; that wasn’t right. She glanced around the room again and finally noticed it. A new door opposite their own.
“Where does that go?” She asked.
“To Lu and Lainy’s rooms.”
She jerked her head towards him again with her mouth open. “They’re moving? Really?”
They talked about it so often before that Flora thought it was mute at this point. She desperately wanted them to be closer than where their rooms were now on the other side of the manor but didn’t want to push them. They deserved their own space. Even with the baby- especially with the baby. But knowing they agreed to move closer- she started crying.
“We’ve been waiting for time to put the door in so they’d have access to the nursery too if needed.” Tamlin reached up and wiped her tears. “These are happy ones, correct?” She nodded. “Good. Come, I want you to pick out the curtains for the window.”
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Three more months to go and Flora was ready to evict this baby now. Sitting was a little uncomfortable, her belly becoming rounder by the day. It didn’t help that her babe started to kick daily, for no other reason than to make his mother uncomfortable.
Even outside in the garden, where the chairs could lounge out to prop up one’s feet weren’t comfortable. It was Elain’s idea to take their tea outside today. Flora shuffled about in her chair while Elain poured tea into a cup.
“Drink this,” Elain sat the tea cup and saucer beside her.
“What is it?” Flora was scared to sniff it. Last time she smelled anything but black tea she nearly hurled. Though that was early on in her pregnancy. She avoided it ever since.
“Raspberry mint. I made it for Feyre and it seemed to help with the second pregnancy.”
She took a hesitant sip and her eyes widened right before she downed more of it. She sat back her chair and made an inappropriate noise.
“This is the best tea I’ve ever had.” She took another drink from the saucer. “Thank you Elain.”
“You’re welcome. Hopefully it calms the little rascal.”
Flora nodded and resisted the urge to down the rest of her cup. She set aside and watched Elain take a sip of her own tea.
“How are your sisters?”
Elain contemplated for a moment. Flora didn’t know if that was a bad sign or not.
“Nesta has taken on a writing project.” Elain cut her eyes to Flora with a knowing look. “A romance novel.”
Flora sat up straighter. “Really? On a scale of what I read and what you read, how smutty is it?”
“What you read. You know Nes adores those Drake books. Stands to reason she would write something equally scandalous.”
“You know you love those books too,” Flora playfully rolled her eyes. “I hope she completes it. Tell her I look forward to having a copy on my bookshelf.”
Elain grinned. “I will make sure to let her know.”
“And Feyre? How is she?”
Flora held no ill will to the female. What happened between her and Tamlin was in the past.
“She’s good. The twins are giving her hell.” Flora laughed at that. “She handed off her workshops to local artists. So now she’s only supervising the ones in Illyria and Hewn city, occasionally hosting an event.”
“I thought you mentioned she planned for that?”
Elain took a sip of her tea. “She did. She’s just been putting off for decades. She’s worse than Lucien, having her hands in so many pots.”
Flora couldn’t disagree. She picked her tea backup and drank the rest before it was too cold. It was only minutes later when she realized she could still feel the baby move but his kicking stopped.
“By the cauldron I thought he’d never stop. You’re a lifesaver, Lainy.”
She only smiled and took another sip of her tea. They settled into a nice silence but Flora’s mind spiraled. No longer focused on her baby’s excessive kicking, she couldn’t help but wonder further about Elain’s sisters. She hadn’t had time to ask. Or even think about it but now…
“Elain?” She hummed in acknowledgment. Flora smoothed out the fabric on her belly idly. “Have you explained to your sisters he might be Lucien’s?”
“I have.” She replied. “They are aware we have a different relationship, the four of us. They are understanding. You don’t know them as well as I do, but I promise they will not care. If they did, I would never let them hear the end of it.”
She accepted that response. Elain studied her for a moment, then reached over, placing her hand on Flora’s stomach.
“No matter what, this is our baby. We’ve been over this. I will love him no matter who fathered him.”
“I know, I know. Thank you.”
Elain gave her a soft smile and pulled back her hand to stand. She came over and gave Flora a quick kiss. She patted Flora’s shoulder.
“Come, let’s clean this up and go bother our husbands.” She said with a grin.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The time finally came and Flora labored off and on for days. The whole time Tamlin never left her side. Lucien kept the court running and Elain took over the kitchens by cooking. She’d brought all kinds of food every few hours to see if Flora would eat. Flora took most of the pastries. She joked the baby had a sweet tooth but they all knew it was just Flora’s preference.
It felt like an eternity passed before it came time to push. Their healer in the room supervised as planned. With Lucien and Elain flanking her sides, and holding her hands, Tamlin caught their child as he was pushed out into this world. Flora should have known the second she felt the head crown and Tamlin’s widened, what was about to happen. Of course she was too focused on screaming her own lungs out from the pain and pressure to realize it for what it was.
Their healer beside him cleaned out the baby's mouth and wails filled the room. Flora was finally handed a baby boy with the brightest red hair she’d ever seen in her life. And she laughed. She laughed and cried as she pulled her baby to her chest. All those months of worry, all the love for this tiny little being she grew in her body, and all the stress from labor hit her at once.
It was bittersweet but not in the way she expected or planned for. She didn’t realize Elain had moved off the bed until Tamlin was right beside her, hands cupping her face as he kissed her forehead then her lips. He was crying too but there was no sadness in his eyes. No words were exchanged; they weren’t needed. It was their healer who finally intervened, moving Tamlin so her assistant could take the baby to clean up and she could take over for the rest of the process. Flora looked over to see Lucien and Elain still by her side. Both of them had red eyes also.
“We have a baby,” Flora choked out, tears renewed. Both of them grinned at her.
“We do,” Lucien laughed through his tears.
They both gave her a long kiss each before the healer shooed them out to give Flora some space. They all agreed when she first became pregnant that no matter what, she wanted Tamlin by her side during the first few hours of recovery. She still felt guilty sending Lucien out, knowing what she knew now.
The guilt didn’t last long when she felt like she had to push again.
Tamlin was utterly smitten. Flora watched him cradle their baby in his arms while the head healer made certain everything else was gone and felt around her stomach. He was so gentle, like he was afraid he would break him. The healer finally took the baby back to show Flora how to feed him. Once he was settled, they cleaned up and Flora moved into their room.
After some time with just her and the baby, Tamlin came back to join her on the bed. She also finally realized how exhausted she was. Being back in her own bed, with her baby calm had relaxed her heavily. Tamlin put their son in the cradle by the bed and crawled up next to her. They were silent for a long time, so much she almost fell asleep with Tamlin rubbing his thumb over her knuckles. His soft voice pulled her back from sleep.
“Flora?”
“Tam.”
“How do you feel?” He was still stroking her knuckles nervously.
“Exhausted.” She knew that’s not what he meant. “Numb. I worried so much. I was so anxious. Now it’s over and I don’t feel anything.”
“Look at me,” he pulled back and tilted her chin up gently. His sad green eyes pleaded with hers. “The second you start feeling upset or overwhelmed, you tell me. Because you will- you just had a baby, our baby. Your body might be in shock.”
He let go and she nodded. “I know. I promise. I love you.”
“I love you,” he kissed her forehead. “Do you want to bring Lu and Lainy in? Or do you want to rest?”
“They can come in. They need to meet their son proper.” She grinned when she said that. Their son. The four of them.
“I’ll get them.”
Tamlin went through the door to the nursery and shortly came back with Lucien and Elain right behind him. After a few exchanges of kisses with Flora, Lucien took the babe first. Elain came and sat by her while Lucien stood, rocking the baby gently in his arms.
Then his brows furrowed, confusion etched in his face. “Are we sure he’s mine?”
“That’s exactly what Beron said when you were born,” Tamlin replied immediately, causing Flora and Elain to snort with laughter.
“No, I mean it,” Lucien replied through his own chuckles. “His eyes are green.”
“No, they aren’t,” Flora replied.
She had stared at her son the whole time she had him and fed him. Not once did she notice his eyes being green when he opened them. Elain got up and Lucien lowered him for her to look. Shock went over her face.
“Flora, they’re green.”
They brought their son over to her. She frowned as she took him and he grunted from being passed around. It took a moment for him to open his eyes again. Flora’s mouth fell open. Her son’s eyes were green. Tamlin’s green.
Tamlin looked down at their son with a soft smile. “The Mother has a sense of humor. When we said our baby she knew we meant it.” He sighed and looked at his wife. “Do you still want to wait? Before we tell your parents he’s here?”
“Gods yes.” Flora’s parents always meant well, but were so overbearing sometimes. “I need a few days before my mother descends upon the manor. I’m also going to need all three of you here to explain this.” She smoothed her son's red hair gently.
Along with overbearing, they weren’t understanding of her relationships. They only kept their mouths shut thanks to Tamlin being High Lord. Elain’s sisters understood. Lucien’s parents understood a little too well, considering who his father was. Flora was going to have to mentally prepare for the explanations she’d have to provide. Elain pulled her from her thoughts, moving her mate to sit beside Flora.
“Have you picked the name?”
Elain looked between her and Tamlin with her big doe eyes, innocently trying to hide her excitement. She’d been begging them to tell her what they picked for weeks. A small list was made by the four of them and from there, her and Tam picked two weeks ago.
“Yes Lainey,” Flora bumped her forehead gently against Elain’s. “We’re going with Ezryn.”
“Not the grumpy one,” Lucien exclaimed albeit playfully.
Before Flora could even scold him, Ezryn grunted and shuffled in his swaddle. It would have been perfect timing if his hair hadn’t changed from bright red to brown. Her eyes widened as she just stared at her baby, silence between the four of them deafening. It was finally Elain, who said something.
“Oh he’s going to be a rascal.” She covered her mouth and looked at her mate.
Then Flora laughed again. Laughed and cried like she had when she held him for the first time. The whole time she was worried about his hair and he changed it. Which meant her worries, her acceptance of her fate, was all a waste. Tamlin was laughing too, his head on her shoulder.
“He’s worse than you,” she wiped her eyes, turning her head to her husband. “By the mother he’s only a few hours old.”
“I still think he’s Lucien’s,” Tamlin chuckled, which sent Lucien howling.
Ezryn did not like that. To be fair to him, his little fae ears could only handle so much. Tamlin took him, rocking him gently in his arms. Lucien and Elain both made their exit, promising to come back with dinner later so Flora could rest. By the time he was settled again, Flora was also nearly asleep.
“He’s going to be a menace,” she whispered after Tamlin put their son in his cradle.
“He’s our menace.” Tamlin got in the bed with her. “His powers are just fluctuating because he’s a newborn. They’ll taper out in a day or so.”
She nodded and yawned. She then snuggled up to Tamlin to try and rest, though her mind raced.
“Will you check on Lucien later?” She whispered. “I’m worried. We all thought…”
“I will, I promise.” He took her hand that laid on his chest and gently squeezed it. “I think he’s fine, but I will ask Lainy to keep an eye on him. Today was a lot for all of us.”
“It was.” She yawned again. “Thank you.”
Silence fell between them. She let Tamlin brush his fingers through her hair until she finally fell asleep.
You brushed through you h/c hair softly as your mind was suspended into nothing. You couldn’t really process anything lately, you were stressed to say the least.
Between work, your boyfriend Jungkook and his work. His foul, inhumane, scarring work. When you met the mysterious, charming man you could never have imagined his day to day life in a million years. From simple meetings of heists and information theft to brutal interrogations performed by his men or commonly himself.
It was still a lot after 3 years because how could it ever not be. No matter what Jungkook did, you adapted. If he needed to go into the field for a mission, you could be left alone for weeks at a time with the company of bodyguards to keep you from harm's way. If an important deal fell through, Jungkook would be so tense and angered, you had to walk on eggshells with everything you did or said. If Jungkook had to go on business to another country, of course he would bring you whether or not you wanted to come, making you fall behind in your own work and having to work twice as hard to be up to speed.
You were drained- mentally, physically and emotionally. You were at a breaking point, you had been for a while, but of course you never spoke your mind in fear of how things would turn out.
“ Y/N ?”
You finished brushing your hair into a convenient bun on the back of your head, “ I’m upstairs.”, you yelled back.
Like tonight, a perfect example. It is 20 minutes after midnight and Jungkook has just strolled into the house without a call, text or a damn email since he left this morning. The problem is he wants everything to be sunshine and rainbows with you without the work of it.
The door of your shared bedroom slowly opened revealing your self-assured, over-achieving boyfriend.
“ Babe ?”
You peaked from the expensively-innovated washroom with an unreadable expression. You locked eyes with him and his eyes showed a kind, sweet gaze even after leaving you worried all day.
He wore all black attire, black denim jeans, black long-sleeved button-up, his signature black combat boots and a leather jacket to top it off. You couldn’t lie- he was unbelievably handsome. Even if you weren’t happy with him, he was still the charmer you met from the beginning.
As your eyes came back up, his eyes were already on you. His eyes locked on the silk, white nightdress you wore that stopped right above your thigh. As his eyes traveled he found himself locked on your hardened nipples that showed perfectly through the silk from the cold breeze. His sweet gaze had turned dark and lustful causing your cheeks to burn up in surprise.
Clearing your throat and smiling awkwardly, Jungkook raised his eyebrow with a smirk that made you melt intensely, “ How was work, today ?”, you asked, turning back to the mirror to take off the remainder of your jewelry.
It was almost silent as his soft hum echoed through the master bedroom, “ It was work, nothing special.”
He told you this, but you knew better. After so many years, you learned to decode his white lies. Nothing special means it was gruesome and violent, but he didn’t want to make you uncomfortable.
You rolled your eyes to yourself and sighed, “ Must’ve been a little busy, yeah ?”. So busy, he couldn’t contact you once.
Jungkook sat on the bed pulling off his shoes and shrugged, “ Not really, basically just some paperwork and meetings.”
As you pulled off your diamond necklace, a gift from Jungkook to make up for his childish behavior, you nodded, “ Then maybe I could accompany you since it’s boring as of late.”
It was quiet as you heard him shuffling around. Gently, you placed the necklace into your jewelry box along with your other pieces and wondered how many of the pieces were a genuine gift and how many were an indirect apology from Jungkook.
You slightly jumped and felt a pair of muscular arms wrap around your torso just below your breasts. But, relaxed a bit as Jungkook rested his head on the crook of your neck.
“ Kook, what are you doing ?”, you asked softly, asking a question that wasn’t exactly for this moment in time, but a question for the entirety of your relationship.
“ I was gone all day, I want to hold my baby, is that a crime ?”, his voice smug and proud.
You said nothing, shutting the lid of your jewelry box and looking up at your reflection in the mirror. Jungkook looked into your eyes through the reflection smirking slightly, one of his large hands staying on the cusp of your breasts and the other traveling down your body to rest on your hip.
He changed from his work clothes into a simple pair of gray sweatpants and no shirt, all he needed to drive you crazy.
“ I missed you, princess, real bad.”, he whispered and began to leave soft, wet kisses on your exposed neck. Your knees began to go a bit weak and the butterflies in your stomach went wild.
Of course he was being needy when you were fed up with his behavior, could you ever break the cycle ?
It was silent other than your slow inhales and shaky exhales. His hand that sat on your hip began to raise the end of the silk fabric gently.
“ I know you missed me too, baby, you don’t have to be shy.”Jungkook spoke in the voice you heard when he was dealing with a partner and needed to persuade the other party. God, it always works wonders for him. And, now you.
His hand ventured down from the top of your thigh to in-between your legs, his slender fingers pulled at the waistband of your black panties making you gasp lightly at the contact.
“ Kook, we need to have a talk.”, you managed to get out somehow during your trance.
“ We can talk as soon as I get done making up for lost time, princess.”, his words came off his tongue clearly and seductively.
As much as you wanted him to fuck you, your mind caught a glimpse of Jungkook beating up someone for not paying his debt when it was owed. You thought of the beating turning deadly and that maybe this person died after being beaten so brutally. You pictured your boyfriend having his body disposed of and any evidence thrown away. How could you let those same evil hands touch you ? You caught his hand quickly and shook your head at him through the mirror.
“ I'd rather we talk now.”
His hand fell from your body and his arms crossed at your words, a worried expression sketching over his face waiting for you to speak.
In the silence you pondered about whether or not you should speak your mind for once or just apologize and let him have his way. But, the look of concern on his face pushed you over the edge into a pool of confidence.
“ I want you to leave the mafia.”, you said, turning from the mirror and looking up at him with soft eyes. At first a small chuckle left his lips thinking you must be joking with him, but after seeing you purse your lips and look to the ground nervously, his face dropped.
“ There’s no fucking way you’re serious, is there ?”, he asked you rhetorically.
“ Kook, I know it sounds crazy, bu-”
Jungkook scoffed, turned from you and walked out of the bathroom. Your eyebrows knitted together in irritation at his rude behavior. Of course when you had something to say, he had to act so childish. You stood in the doorway of the bathroom watching as he sat down on the bed and rubbed his temples.
“ Listen, I had a long day and I really don’t want to argue, Y/N.”
“ It isn’t arguing, I’m trying to talk to my boyfriend about something that is bothering me and you just don’t want to listen as usual..”
He bodded with an ironic smirk on his face, “ You’re right, I don’t want to come home to hear you bitch about things that don’t directly affect you, I just want to fuck you and tell you how much I love and adore you. You know me so well.”
It was your turn to scoff and raise your voice a bit, “ I’ve never been this stressed in my fucking life, Kook, I’m always worried about you, my career and our future. Everything that you’ve gone through, I’ve been right by your side and I always felt the consequences of being in this relationship- the good and the bad.”, you finished with a determined look on your face.
He looked up from the ground, concentrating on your words, but he didn’t seem bothered at all. In fact, he seemed relaxed and even more bored of the conversation, “ I know you make a lot of sacrifices for me and my work, I am so thankful for that, but I can’t give it up because it isn’t just my job it is my life.”, he explained simply making you feel guilty for bringing it up.
Jungkook walked over to you, towering over your body in intimidation, he smiled sweetly looking down at your blank eyes, “ How about we forget this whole thing and just watch a movie, yeah ?”
“ Will you fucking take me serious, Jungkook.”, you stated coldy pushing past him.
Jungkook followed in behind you and stopped a few feet away from you as you stopped in your tracks.
“ I don’t know how much I can handle this lifestyle, it’s making me go a little crazy and I don’t want to put my health in last place as I’ve done before, I want to be with you and be happy.”
Your boyfriend nodded before walking over the bed and sitting down, “ Okay, so what does that really mean, y-you don’t love me anymore.”, his voice becoming unstable as he thought of you finding another man and being in love with someone other than himself. His temper couldn’t help but rise as he looked over at you with a raised eyebrow.
You turned over at him hearing his tone changed immediately shaking your head, “ Of course not, I just don’t want prioritize everything else over my well-being, I love you and I would stay by your side through anything, but I was lately I’ve been thinking about a life where we have a permanent home, a little family and.. I don’t have to imagine you not coming back home to me.”, you finished with a gloss in your eyes and Jungkook with a softened gaze.
“ I mean, I really do understand you’re still trying to prove something to your father, but I-“
He laughed softly at your accusation although you were right, he always made his father proud by being the best at everything he did and turning away from the family business isn’t something he would approve of even from beyond the grave.
“ Babe, I don’t have to prove shit to anyone- especially a dead man.”, he told you with a faux-unfazed tone.
“ Okay, so then, why don’t you turn away from this life, so we could be a normal couple, be a normal family.”
“ Y/N, this is my normal. You forget I wasn’t just brought into this ten years ago, it’s always been my fucking life.”
“ Sometimes I think you say stupid shit just for attention, Y/N.”
You crossed your arms in defense and glared over at him, “ Stupid shit ? Stupid shit is having to wait hours after midnight worried sick and not knowing if you’ll come back home. Stupid shit is not being able to get comfortable in one place for more than a few months because you’re somebody’s fucking target.”, you spat at him with a sharp tone.
Jungkook tongue the inside of his cheek trying to repress his fiery anger begging to show you your place, but his sane side held him back. He stared over to you with an agitated gaze and shook his head, “ You know what, I don’t have time for this. I have to be out in the morning.”.
“ Time ?”, you scoffed tears brimming your eyes in frustration and built up anger, “ You had all the time in the world to shut out my cries and fuck me to sleep twenty minutes ago, Jungkook.”
He laughed to himself being caught off guard, but you found nothing funny at all. A tear fell from your eye, but as quickly as it fell you wiped your cheek, “ I’m fucking serious. You pick and choose what things are worth the great Jeon Jungkook’s time and apparently, my concerns don’t fit into your frame, huh ?”
Jungkook laid back on his side of the bed propping his head up with a muscular, fully-tattooed arm eyeing you with a knowing smile. A smile that he always used in arguments to try and crack you up, to get you to take a step back and apologize for getting so angry over nothing. Except this wasn’t nothing, this was your fucking life and you’d be damned if you kept backing down from him.
You nodded with the same amount of vengeance in your expression, you threw your hands in the air and clicked your tongue on the roof of your mouth, “ Since you love to have your options and be able to pick and choose your destiny, I have one for you.”
Jungkook shuffled in his spot with interest and nodded for you to continue, even though you were going to no matter what he said.
“ The mafia or me.”
“ Choose between my life-long work, my family’s legacy, the foundation of my name ?”, he repeated to make sure he heard you correctly with an eyebrow raised, you just stared at his relaxed position, “ Don’t be fucking crazy, Y/N, no such desicion exists
You felt your cheeks heat up at his words in humiliation and the tears beginning to fill your eyes once more. How dare he not choose the woman who’s been at his side, aided him in his time of need and done everything he asked of you. Fuck him and his love.
“ Then, I will make it for you.”
He watched as you walked to the closet and put on your Yves Saint Laurent zip-up he’d bought you for your birthday last year. You slid on a pair of Yeezy slides with a light gray color, another gift from your soon to be ex-boyfriend according to you words and actions.
Jungkook sat up from his position realizing how serious you might be, that you might actually leave him. You looked at him once more holding the ends of your jacket
“ Come on, princess, let’s be rationa-”
“ FUCK YOU”, you yelled in a swift turn of events as if you’d been waiting to use the two emergency words all night.
Now, in the very moment, your mind wasn’t concerned with the profile of the man you were speaking to. You didn’t seem to remember the murder or the man who would brutally beat up disrespectful victims, you just felt that you needed to release your anger in anyway. Only a couple seconds after, you realized how this might be trouble for your well-being.
You turned from him and began your walk to the door that now seemed to be miles away as you tried your best to ignore the loud footsteps that seemed to be quickly approaching your body. You held your breath and tried to at least make it to the door just as your hand connected to the doorknob. His voice spoke up, loud and clear to anyone with the intent to live.
" Don't fucking open that door.", his voice echoed, infinitely in your brain and once through the room.
You thought once more and asked yourself what he would do if you actually left and to that you answered, ‘ Jungkook would never hurt me.” With that response, you began to turn the golden knob.
Before you could pull the door open, you felt a pair of strong hands pull you by your forearms with such strength and effortlessly pull you back, spinning you and pushing you back against the door. You groaned in pain feeling your back collide with the metal door with all of his might.
“ Shit.”, you attempted to fall forward in distress, but you were pushed back once more with a little less force, but not zero.
You looked up at your attacker still in pain and shocked, realizing he actually put his hands on you, you guys got in pretty bad fights, but he never made you feel like he might hurt you physically. Jungkook stared down at you with a look of disappointment and vexation as if looks could kill you’d be six feet under. His body pressing you further into the door with no room to breathe yout shaky breaths.
“ Don’t you ever raise your voice at me. I let you slide with everything else you've said to me.", he placed one of his hands on your cheek and gripped your chin forcefully making you look deeper into his eyes, " but you will never again in your life disrespect me like that.”
You just nodded, too scared to speak back as he was silent and just stared at you with a look of crazy that almost seemed animated, he moved his hand from your chin, delicately rubbing your bottom lip in contrast to his hold on you.
“ I cannot leave my life behind, but I can’t let you leave me either.”, he whispered against your lips as if the secret was made clear by his actions, he leaned closer laying his forehead on top of yours, “ You understand that, right ?”
You parted your lips as a sound barely audible fell from your lips, “ Y-yes.”
“ I love you more than life itself, I need you to be with me.”. Jungkook put a little bit of space between you once more allowing you to regain steady breaths. He unzipped your jacket gently pulling it from your skin as you allowed him effortlessly.
“ So, let’s just lie down and come back to this in the morning, yeah ?”Jungkook asked with a dark gleam in his eyes that you’d never recognized before and a sinister smile that would be engraved in your mind.
Scared for your life and still in shock of his psychotic behavior that was gone in a flash you nodded slowly and took hold of his hand as he guided you back to the bed. And as much as he would apologize for his flash of anger and promise it was a one-time thing and that you didn’t have to worry about him acting so harsh in the future, it was never the last time.
You still remembered it vividly, the day the doctor said you had a disease with no known cure. It had been a devastating revelation, one that left you and your husband reeling for weeks afterward.
Things were fairly easy in the beginning. Aside from the weekly doctor visits, everything continued as usual for a while. Then one day you noticed that simple things like going upstairs and walking around the house exhausted you, leaving you tired for the rest of the day. Every day when Hongjoong came home from work, he found you perched on the couch looking like you just ran a marathon. He’d kiss you softly, then go change and start in on the housework. You felt awful for not being able to help him, but when you brought it up he just shrugged.
“I can manage.” He told you. “It’s not that big a deal.”
But you could see that it was, in fact, a very big deal. The stress of having to go to work, then come home and do all the things you used to be able to do was wearing him thin. Sometimes you felt like you were more concerned with his health than your own, but there was quite literally nothing you could do.
Sometime near the end of November, Hongjoong reached his boiling point. Suspended from work for getting into a fight with a colleague, he decided to take you away on what would probably be your last vacation. Your family owned a cabin in the nearby mountains, and it had become something of a Christmas tradition for the two of you to spend the holiday all warm and cosy in that little cabin. So you packed up and began the now-familiar drive into the country, ready to get away from all the stress and anxiety that hung heavy in your house.
Tumblr media
“We’re here!” Hongjoong murmured, gently rousing you back to wakefulness. You shook the sleep from your eyes and pushed open the passenger car door, sliding out into the crisp winter air. Hongjoong unlocked the cabin’s front door and let you sit on the bed to begin unpacking things while he went to purchase a week’s worth of groceries to start with.
As you sat on the comfy double bed and emptied out one suitcase after another, you found yourself thinking back on your life and if you had really lived it to the fullest. Could you confidently face your end with no regrets? You weren’t sure. Maybe talking it over with Hongjoong would help you put things in perspective.
The rustling of plastic bags broke you from your thoughts as your husband re-entered the cabin. You stood and went to watch him unbag everything and put it all away, smiling at how lucky you were to have someone as kind and caring as Hongjoong. He was everything you could’ve ever asked for in a partner, plus so much more. You wouldn’t have anyone else by your side through all of this, not even your parents or your best friends.
Hongjoong saw you standing in the doorway and stopped to smile at you. He could see the lingering worry in your expression and walked over, pulling you close and wrapping his arms around you.
“What’s wrong, love? Is something bothering you?”
You let out a sigh, hesitating, then slowly nodded your head. “A little, yeah.”
Hongjoong guided you into the living room and sat beside you on the sofa, dark eyes watching you intently. Taking a deep breath, you began to share with him the thoughts you’d had just moments ago. Hongjoong listened patiently, waiting until he was sure you’d said everything before voicing his response.
“You know what I think? I think that you have absolutely nothing to be worried about. Everyone makes mistakes or does things they regret, but unfortunately that’s just part of life. What you need to remember is this: the things that really made you happy, the moments you’ll never forget? You did them because you wanted to, and that is far more important than doing things that will only please others.”
Your eyes filled with tears as you leaned forward and hugged him tightly, your heart swelling at the profound words. “I love you so much Hongjoong, more than you will ever know.” You looked up at him seriously. “There may be things in my past that I regret, but marrying you has never been one of them.”
Hongjoong held you fast against his chest, relishing the warmth of your thin body. In his head he cursed God, the Fates, or whoever was responsible for taking you away from him much too soon. He hated that he wouldn't get to grow old with you, surrounded by grandchildren. You had only managed to give birth once before becoming sick. The baby had been several weeks premature, and after being released from the hospital she currently resided with your parents since you were too ill to care for her. When he realised he was going to lose you, Hongjoong had sworn to himself that he would be the best father he could be. He owed you that at least, if not so much more.
The rest of that day was spent quietly, the two of you curled up on the couch watching Christmas movies together until you both began to get sleepy and retired to the bedroom.
On your fourth day at the cabin, you woke to find a thick blanket of snow covering everything. According to the weather report it was several inches thick, with a layer of ice underneath. Long story short, you and Hongjoong were now snowed in until it melted enough for safe road travel.
Tumblr media
A couple days after that, you awakened with a strange urgency flooding your veins. You had trouble even sitting up by now, and Hongjoong had to help you do pretty much everything. You had a sinking feeling the urgency meant you didn't have much longer, and it terrified you. You were by no means ready to leave, especially since it meant your beloved husband would be stranded with your lifeless form for who knew how long.
After dinner that evening you asked for a last favour from Hongjoong.
“Joong, will you make love to me?”
The brunette choked on his drink a little, looking at you in surprise.
“Y/N, are you sure? I don't wish to hurt you or-”
“I'm sure.” You replied, staring at him firmly. “I want to feel you one last time.” You bit your lip to hide the wobble of your chin as you pushed out that last sentence. You hated how final everything felt, and you knew Hongjoong felt the same way.
“Alright then.” He conceded, scooping you into his arms and carrying you to the bedroom. He sat you gently on the plush duvet, then proceeded to cover all the windows. This was to be a private moment, just between the two of you.
Tenderly, as if he was afraid he might break you, he stripped you of your clothes before removing his own. Then he crawled slowly towards you, that signature smirk of his surfacing for a moment and causing butterflies to erupt within you. His hands gripped your hips briefly before sliding up your side to cup your face.
“I love you so much, my sweet Y/N, and I will miss you terribly.” He murmured, eyes glistening.
“Shh, let’s not think about that now.” You whispered, heart twisting at the agony in his expression. “Show me how much you love me, Kim Hongjoong.”
His lips met yours in a gentle but heated kiss as he slipped two fingers inside of you. It had been a while since the last time you two were intimate with each other like this, and the stretch made you wince slightly. Hongjoong pressed little kisses to your forehead as he carefully moved his fingers, and soon the discomfort gave way as heat began to build inside of you.
A quiet moan slipped past your lips, and Hongjoong tentatively added a third finger. No discomfort twisted your features, only pleasure, and so he deemed that you were ready. Removing his fingers, he moved forward, sliding fully into you with one smooth motion. A choked moan was punched out of your lungs, eyes rolling back slightly at the glorious sensations coursing through your body.
“Fuck, I forgot how good you felt inside me like this.” You panted, gripping his shoulders as you fought the urge to cum immediately.
“It’s been too long.” Hongjoong agreed, letting out a grunt as your walls clenched around him. “You’re always so tight for me, baby.”
Hovering over you, he pressed a firm kiss to your lips and began moving in long, slow thrusts that stole the breath from your lungs as he pressed deep inside you.
“Shit, Joong, ‘m not gonna last long like this!” You exclaimed, fingers burying in his hair as he leaned over and wrapped his tongue around your nipple, licking and sucking as he continued to fill you up over and over.
“It’s okay, my love. Go ahead, cum for me. I won’t be far behind.”
A wave of utter euphoria flooded your senses, your vision going white as the most intense orgasm you might’ve ever had washed over you. Lost in the bliss, you didn’t even register when your husband’s movements stilled as he emptied his load inside of you.
Once you floated back down to earth, you watched with a sated smile as Hongjoong set about cleaning both of you up. Then he pulled the duvet and sheets down, climbing in and pulling you close as he succumbed to sleep’s sweet call.
Tumblr media
You stayed awake that night, mind running too fast to even attempt sleeping. As the sun began to peek over the mountaintops you felt a sudden peace come over you, replacing the urgency you’d felt the previous day.
Hongjoong would be alright. He had both his and your parents, his friends, and your little daughter as well. They would help him cope and keep him from losing himself to his grief.
Yes, he would be okay. You could rest easy now knowing your family would be cared for and looked after. You took one last look at your beloved husband, smiled, and let go.
Trigger warning! This one-shot includes the topic of an eating disorder, illness and an unhealthy eating behavior. These plots are presented. If this triggers you too easily or you just can´t handle those subjects, I urge you NOT to read this work. I am NOT embellishing this topic under any circumstance. Read at your own risk.
Authors note: Finally a little update on this story, yeay!
You leaned your forehead against the window before the train drove the last few meter into the station, seeking the comfortableness in it while calming your mind in a way. It was already dark when you arrived in National City and you got off exhausted. The nervousness and tension that had steadily increased along the way made your heart beat faster. The recurring dizziness forced you to get a small snack during the stop in Carthago.
A soft sigh left your lips as the native air crept into your nostrils. On the one hand you were happy to return home, but on the other hand you were afraid of it.
The first semester at Aetherford University had passed calmly but with a lot of stress. You had the chance to be mostly left alone by your and avoided engaging with them via video chat. Even Kara had avoided asking for a video call every third day of the week, otherwise she always had shaky hands just to see you again.
You needed this break, you had to think about a few things. A few months ago your body and mind had started playing against you. A trap had formed, which created more and more problems for you and also caused great fear.
At first you thought it was just happening because you were so stressed and everything was new, but it was not. You quickly found that trying to fight back was useless, because no matter what you did.. It got worse.
You were glad you were able to hide it; you did not know much people at university. At least not someone, who would really care. But it was slowly becoming clear to your professor and your room mate that you seemed emptier and weaker.
It started with just skipping breakfast, but over time it got worse. Breakfast turned into meals that were skipped and you started to survive only on snacks. Protein bars, apples, broccoli. Several times you came close to writing to your sisters, but immediately dismissed the idea. You were sure that they would immediately worry and take you out from university to bring you home.
At moments like this you wished Maggie back. The brunette would certainly have known a good solution or advice without telling Alex anything. But you could not ask her anymore, the contact broke apart.
Memories came flooding back of how Maggie and Alex had split up and you saw her boarding a train to another city right here where you were standing now. And even though you have been talked out of the fact that you could have done something about it, you still berated yourself for not at least trying. It had just been, on the whole, a heartbreaking disaster. Not just because Alex wanted to have children back then, no. Alex could not imagine a life without them and was forced to separate from her great love.
A final sigh left your lips and you took one step after the other in agony. Your head hurt and you did not know if it was because you had not eaten and drunk much today or if it was simply because you sat on a train for five hours straight with a baby crying almost non-stop.
But one thing was certain: It could not be because of the many books in the library.
Over the last six months you have been looking for answers and self-help in the library, but unfortunately you have not found any that helped you. Instead, it kept getting worse.
At first it was difficult for you to really take this problem seriously, as it was often unclear or you had suppressed it. It changed quickly, however, and the consequences became clearer and sharper over time, especially since spring.
That is why you were reluctant to let classmates touch or hug you. You also no longer voluntarily sought physical contact. You were afraid that others would be afraid of you.
A loud horn honk pulled you back to the here and now and you saw none other than Alex on her motorbike. You just hoped that the redhead would not get the idea to hug you right away. You did not want to let it happen until you got your illness under control.
"Look who we have here, the missing Danvers!" mocking, her voice cut through the street noise. You closed your eyes briefly and took a deep breath; now it was going to get serious and you had to be careful at everything. "C´mere, kiddo."
You quickly raised a hand in front of your body, and held it in place. "No hugs please. I, eh… pinched two of my ribs and it hurts like hell," you lied and in the same moment you could have slapped yourself for this statement.
Your sister eyed you intently. You looked ill in her eyes and even though she could not see your face directly because of the darkness, she still noticed how pale and tired you looked.
For several months, Alex Danvers wondered what was wrong with her youngest sister. He had noticed the rapid change in you, even when you were miles away. After all, she was not a DEO agent for nothing. And she wondered why you did not talk to her, you always did.
"Well, can I give you at least a kiss on your cheek?" she asked with a slight smile on her lips. You nodded and mirrored her facial expressions. Putting on a mask, a smiling face. A breathy laugh escapes my mouth so she can not see my pain. The redhead quickly leaned down and gave you three small kisses on the cheek before placing a helmet in your hands and gently wrapping an arm around you.
You felt her hand on your shoulder and instinctively wanted to shake it off when she pulled it back on her own to get her keys out of her leather jacket. You knew from her lingering eye contact that she was not satisfied with your previous answer and that she suspected something. Nevertheless, you were glad that she left you alone without forcing any questions on you.
