speak up andi, I beg of you, you have been mistreated the most here, I know it took shubble a lot of courage but she has helped so many people
i want to start this off by saying it is not a competition and i do not want to compare my experience to anybody else’s. shubble is so fucking strong and i admire her and everyone else who has spoken up about experiencing abuse endlessly.
DISCLAIMER 1
this is way longer than i intended it to be. i did not plan to go into as much depth as i did but the words just kinda kept coming and i kept thinking that if someone else is in a similar situation to the one i was in, it would be good to point out even some of the smaller details so that they can see that these behaviors are not something to be overlooked and could be a symptom of a bigger issue… idk. i apologize for how lengthy and wordy this is but i hope it all makes sense somehow
DISCLAIMER 2
a lot of you know who one of my exes is and i am asking you to please not make this about him. i am simply sharing my experience with some of my past relationships in hopes that they help someone else. i beg of you, do not go on twitter making threads speculating on whatever because it’s just going to cause me a bunch of problems and i don’t want this to be brought to his attention. if you share my story, please do not do it with the intent of starting drama. if you share my story, focus on the behaviors i am talking about instead of trying to figure out if it’s about him.
DISCLAIMER 3
this goes without saying but i’ll put it here anyway: i will be talking about toxic relationships, mention of self harm, mention of sex, implied violence. if any of these topics are triggering to you please scroll away, protect yourself.
I have been in a lot of relationships, but there are 4 that i would truly identify as the ones who had the biggest impact on me. Two of those i would consider emotional mistreatment. I don’t want to say i was abused for reasons that i will be discussing with my therapist this week, but i can certainly say i was mistreated. For the sake of privacy, i will be referring to these two dudes as 1 and 6.
I think the biggest difference between 1 and 6 is that 6 was obsessed with me to the point where i felt like i was being suffocated, whereas i’m not sure if 1 ever cared about me in the first place.
6 and i started out pretty normally. we had a bunch of friends in common and we were around the same people. so eventually, we became friends too. we would text and call all the time until feelings developed into a relationship. in the beginning he was really sweet and caring, saying all the right things that got me falling head over heels. now, something important to note is that i am someone who has always had a lot of guy friends. when i was little and in school, my mom made friends with a bunch of other moms and those moms were boy moms, so i grew up surrounded by boys. i bring this up because 6 didn’t like my guy friends. actually, i think he just didn’t like the fact that i had guy friends at all. so, whenever i would hang out with my friends, it was a problem. so this resulted in me never being able to go out or hang out with my friends unless he was there. then it got worse. before we started dating he had decided to cut back on drinking and to stop smoking. so because of this, i decided that i wouldn’t drink or smoke around him in solidarity. this was not enough for him. i had to stop drinking and smoking altogether. so once, when i was hanging out with my girl friends we decided to stay in and get wine drunk. we posted about it on our private stories on snap and once he saw, 6 called me arguing and yelling at me because i was drinking and posting about it on my story for “attention”. after this incident, i was no longer allowed to hang out with my friends because they were a “bad influence”. he also didn’t like the clothes i wore. sorry, let me reiterate: he didn’t like my clothes when he wasn’t around. it was perfectly fine for me to wear a short dress… if i was with him. i was not allowed to wear “revealing” clothing if he wasn’t around. mind you, none of the clothes i wore were revealing, it’s not my fault i’m hot yk? he took over my life. who i talked to, what i did, what i wore, where i would go, it was all up to him. my life no longer belonged to me. and at the time, i was okay with that. i didn’t realize that he had so much control over everything. i was young and naïve and he convinced me that he knew what was best for me. that he had lived more than i had and experienced more than i had and that he knew better. he was so good at making everything my fault and making him the hero or victim depending on the situation. i got catcalled on the street? “because you were wearing that fucking dress again, andrea you know how that looks. of course you got catcalled. this is why you can’t wear things like that when i’m not around to protect you”. I decided to have a fun night in with my friends and get drunk? “i just don’t understand why you would be posting yourself on your private story like that. you’re drunk and vulnerable. why do you want other people, other guys, to see you like that? and you know i’ve cut back on drinking so how do you think it makes me feel to see that? don’t you love me enough to do this for me?” the worst part is i believed him. because, in the beginning, he helped me so much and i looked up to him so much, surely he had my best interests at heart, right? this relationship went on for way longer than it should have. you may be asking yourself, how did you leave? if you were so in love with him and entranced by him to the point where he consumed you, why did you leave? he raised his hand. that’s what got me to finally leave. a year after we broke up, i found out that he was drinking, smoking, and doing all kinds of shit he told me he wasn’t throughout our entire relationship. he was awful, and i’m really proud of myself for being strong enough to leave when i did. i’m also really grateful for my friends, who stuck out that whole train wreck with me. who i lashed out against in order to protect him and defend him. they stuck by me through it all and i don’t know where i would be without them so shoutout to them lmfao.
1 was a bit more complicated. it started out in a similar way. we had the same friends, hung out around the same people, so it was only a matter of time until we became friends too. we would call and text every day until feelings were developed. at least i developed feelings, i’m still not sure he did. i told him this and i don’t remember how the conversation went but basically we had decided that we were talking as more than friends now. enough time went by where i was ready for it to become a relationship and i communicated that to him. looking back, i think he felt pressured into the relationship by me and by our friends. anyway we started dating and everything was fine. we would hang out and talk all the time but i felt like he was bored or disinterested by me, so i would constantly beg for his attention. i became this needy clingy version of myself that i hated. it felt like when we would hang out, he was always distracted by something else. i basically felt invisible to him. that is, when i wasn’t hanging out with my guy friends. similarly to 6, 1 did not like my guy friends or the fact that i had guy friends in the first place. i had a guy best friend at the time who is one of the most amazing people i have ever met. let’s call him S. S and 1 were acquainted with each other, hung out in the same circles etc. but 1 still didn’t like him. sometimes, whenever 1 was busy doing whatever he did when he wasn’t with me, i would hang out with S, we would watch shows together and just talk. Some days, it felt like i talked to S more than my own boyfriend. this did not sit well with 1. he would ask “why the fuck are you always hanging out with him?” to which i would reply “maybe if you hung out with me more, i wouldn’t have so much free time to spend with him” (toxic ik but what can i say? i was feeling neglected). so you can see what problems this caused. eventually i cut S off. I stopped talking to him completely and i haven’t spoken to him since. Back to 1. even after cutting off my best friend, nothing really changed. He didn’t spend much time with me and whenever we would, i felt like he couldn’t wait to go off and do something else. this got exhausting. at that point i was begging him to love me, to pay attention to me, to care about me. this led to us breaking up. he broke up with me over text. it read, and i quote, “i think we aren’t meant for each other. i think you deserve someone that will treat you better than i do. I don’t think i’m in love with you and i tried to force myself to love you because i thought that’s what i wanted but i really don’t think it is. we started this relationship when i was just tired of being alone and i really just don’t think it is right anymore. i don’t think i am attracted to you. I am sorry, i really didn’t know how to end this and this probably isn’t the best way to do it but it’s time”. The relationship went on for another six months after this. granted, i should have had more self respect and never gotten back together with him but it is what it is. so after he told me that he didn’t love me and that he wasn’t attracted to me, we stayed “friends”. which basically meant that we did everything that a relationship involved. without actually being in a relationship. that is, until one of his friends hit me up. there was some flirtation going on but nothing serious. i was still in love with 1 but, at the time, i was in desperate need for attention and his buddy was there to provide it. when i told 1 about it he flipped out, called me all kinds of crazy and decided he was done with me. his friend and i talked about it and poked fun at the fact that he broke up with me but got mad at someone else paying attention to me. when 1 saw this (he ended up forcing me to show him the screenshots of the conversation) he was even more pissed and even more done with me. the next day he called me and we were basically back together again.
however, this time, i was meant to earn his affection. because i did something so unforgivable and atrocious, he was basically in the clear to treat me like shit. and he did. he would cancel plans to go hang out with his friends. he would only come over late at night, even when i had class the next day. i was basically at his mercy. we only hung out when he decided. we only spoke when he wanted to. i honestly can’t even recall us going on any date after that incident, save for one dinner. in short, i was not a priority to him. this, combined with some other stuff, really took at toll on my mental health. i entered a deep depression and began self-harming after being clean for 3 years. i sought out help and found a wonderful therapist who really helped me. but, 1 only saw this as one more problem. when we hung out he would complain that i was too sad. important note: because of that text he sent me i was incredibly insecure. so, little arguments would always end up escalating because i felt like he literally did not care about me and he would just keep making me feel like shit about being depressed. whenever we argued (which was very often) it would end in me locking myself in the bathroom, sobbing, nearly throwing up, while he was on his phone. i remember one specific argument started because he asked me if i would leave him for harry styles and i jokingly said yes (i am not and have never been attracted to harry styles). that argument escalated to the point where we almost broke up and he said to me “you should warn people before they fall in love with you that you are so mentally ill. because you’re always going to bring down the mental state of who you’re with”. he used my mental health against me like that a lot. whenever i would bring up something i wanted him to do or something that i didn’t like, he would call me needy, clingy, and say that he was trying his best but that i needed too much, that i was too much. all i wanted was reassurance. looking back, that’s all i ever asked for. whenever i would ask him if he loved me he would say “well i’m with you aren’t i?”. this is the same man who decided to go to vegas with his friends on my birthday after he promised he wouldn’t. this is the same man who said that he didn’t love me. the same one who said he wasn’t attracted to me. the same man who i would catch looking at other girl’s (some being his “friends”) provocative pictures on twitter. (this is definitely tmi so i’m just going to put a bunch of asterisks at the end of the tmi so you can skip there if you don’t want to read it) but there was a long period of time in our relationship where we had zero intimacy, and it wasn’t because of me. this fucked with my head a lot because i had this idea that because i was so emotional and needy that i could compensate physically. but when that stopped, my thoughts looked something like “the only thing i was useful for was sex and now he doesn’t even want that from me”.************whenever i remember this, a part of me thinks he might’ve been cheating on me during that time, but i have no proof so i guess we’ll never know. also during that time period, we were arguing over the same things over and over “it feels like you don’t love me” “but i’m hanging out with you” “that’s not the same as loving me” “you’re so fucking needy. and then you wonder why i don’t like coming over”. it was exhausting. we had the same friend group. and even our friends got so sick of us that they would tell me to break up with him. this went on for months until one day, on our one year anniversary, he told me that his plans for the day included playing video games. nothing else. that’s when i broke up with him. that was the straw that broke the camel’s back. i just couldn’t do it anymore.
we stayed friends afterwards in order to keep the peace within the friend group. after about a month, he told me he was going to do better. he said he was going to start going to the gym, and maybe even going to therapy, that he was going to eat better and live a better lifestyle for me. he said he was going to plan dates for us and treat me the way i deserved etc. very much vibes from that one euphoria scene. but i was done. maybe i didn’t communicate that well enough to him and that’s my fault. but i was really confused at the time and i didn’t know what i wanted. eventually we had a conversation and that’s when i told him that i was no longer interested in a relationship. i think i just didn’t believe him anymore. i didn’t believe that he would change for me or anyone else for that matter. through the entire relationship he was mean to me, he neglected me, belittled me, and overall made me feel like shit at worst and invisible at best. even when i would offer to plan things or suggest activities for us to do together, he would be disinterested the entire time or just cancel and make plans with his friends instead. and of course it was all my fault for one, flirting with his friend that one time, and two, just not being interesting enough. he made it feel like i wasn’t good enough, and at the same time victimized himself. he would tell me “nothing i do is ever good enough for you” while i was the one putting in all the effort in the relationship. then he would go “well why would i put in effort with you? remember when you were flirting with [redacted]? I still think about that and it fucks me up”. mind you, he would only bring this up whenever i brought up any concerns or issues. anyway, as you can tell it took me a really long time to realize that this relationship was toxic and unhealthy and i’m really proud of myself, again, for having the strength to leave and never look back. i think one of the reasons why it took me so long to realize that i was being mistreated was because everyone around him loved him. and to me it was hard to see how someone that was so well liked could be bad. so i felt like i was the problem. i felt like there was something wrong with me and if i just fixed that, then he would treat me better and love me and care about me. it took a lot of therapy to realize that he just wasn’t that into me. i was like a toy to him that he could just pay attention to when he was bored but ignore me the rest of the time. but then, when someone else showed interest in me he would suddenly care and be like “no she’s mine, you can’t have her”. he didn’t want me but he didn’t want anyone else to have me and that was the bottom line. that was the base off all the problems and toxicity that happened while we were together.
in conclusion, both of these men were awful in their own unique ways. i hope that by sharing this, someone who is in a similar situation will see it and identify these behaviors as something to watch out for. i hope that someone will see it and realize that they are not alone, and that they are not the first person to go through it, and that it gets better. these events all happened over two years ago and now i am in a beautiful and healthy relationship, i’m studying something that i am passionate about, and i am surrounded by people who love, care about, and support me. i am in a much happier place now and you will find that too, whoever you might be <3

“At least it's not ferociously attacking God quite as directly as Steven Universe did…”
Not that I’m surprised by this statement, but can you elaborate on this? Kinda intrigued by your thoughts on Steven Universe.
Okie dokie, you’re not the only one who has asked me about this, so I suppose I’ll poke the hornet’s nest. 😅 I haven’t talked about this before because I assumed that everyone who wanted to hear my kinds of opinions on stories wasn’t watching or interested in Steven Universe.
It’s like asking vegetarian if they enjoyed a turkey dinner. The turkey dinner was so obviously not made for vegetarians to enjoy, so why would the vegetarian even bother analyzing the turkey?
But I think if some people are asking me why I think Steven Universe is anti-God (of the Bible) its because maybe they don’t know what the turkey is. Not completely. (Maybe not you, because like you said, you’re not surprised by my comment.) So I’ll explain my thoughts on Steven Universe.
If you’re just following me because you liked some stuff I posted, but didn’t realize that I’m a Bible-believing Christian and don’t want to hear about it, unfollow me now. Because I’m going to talk about some hot button issues here and the trolls will come out.
Steven Universe is really well-done. The jokes are funny, the writing is believable, the characters have great chemistry, great design, the concept is fascinating, the slow build-up and reveal of the plot elements is great. But when you watch the throne room scene in the last episode of Season 5 “Change Your Mind,” it’s alarmingly clear how much the whole show is not just settling for defending and championing the LGBTQ+ worldview—it goes all the way to attacking what Christians believe, on the other side.
Anything that’s pro-LGBTQ+ is doing that by default, but this show goes out of its way to do that.
You have to understand: God created and designed us. Deeper than that; He created and designed romantic relationships, and invented marriage. He didn’t just create love—He is love. So when humans come along and do what we’ve always done since the fall, and say, “I’d rather define what Your thing is and how it works for myself, God,” it’s not only an incredible slap in the face, it’s an attack on God’s actual identity—and it’s destructive for us and the people around us. Like a fish insisting it can breathe oxygen.
But Steven Universe goes beyond that. It knows that the Christian worldview is it’s biggest opposition. It digs right down to the heart of the worldview-battle. LGBTQ+ worldview says, “I should get to love what I want and be who I am, because I’m me. Love is love. (By which I mean, any action or relationship I choose to call love is love, because I’m the one calling it that.)”
Biblical worldview says “No, wait, you shouldn’t base your decisions on you alone; what you want changes day to day, and you’re broken, so you can’t ever be satisfied based on what you want—the Bible says God made you for something, and you rejected that, and it broke you. You’re not how you’re meant to be: even what you want and what you think love is is twisted up and can hurt you and others. But if you submit to God He’ll help you, He’ll fix what’s broken and give you new life by making you how you were supposed to be: He’ll live in you and through you.”
Tumblr media
Are we beginning to get the picture?
See, the whole thing with the opposing views between LGBTQ+ and Christian people is as old as time. It’s not a new debate. It’s Satan and Eve in the garden. She says, “This is not how God said things should be,” and Satan says, “Are you sure that’s what He said? He knows if you do this thing, you’ll be like Him. You’ll be god: you’ll get to decide ‘how things should be’ for yourself.”
He lied and said that disobedience would satisfy her. That she knew what her own heart needed better than the God that made it did. That the very act of being imperfect would make her godlike.
And then Steven Universe comes along and says “if every pork chop were perfect, we wouldn’t have hotdogs.”
And has a cast of created being characters who’s imperfections (Garnet’s forbidden “love,” Pearl’s obsession, Amethyst’s insecurity) are supposedly “the best thing about them; what makes them who they are.”
And has a main character who used to be a part of the god-like creator relationship, but used her power to come down to earth and completely change who she is into a fully different person.
And has a godlike Creator character who claims she “doesn’t need” her created beings (just like the God of the Bible) but they all have a little part of their creator in them so she has to repress their imperfections; she holds them all to a standard that’s impossible to reach called “perfection” and punishes them when they don’t meet it even though it hurts them to try; she expects them all to do what they were created by her for; she fixes them when they can’t meet her standard by shining her light through them and making them extensions of their Creator.
And has a main character who argues, fights back, tries to stop her, and is answered with lines that sound surprisingly like what LGBTQ+ people hear when Christians argue with them: “you’re only making things worse; you’re just deceiving yourself; even while you resist it your actual light can’t help shining through,” etc.
White Diamond just wants everything to be perfect. Like her. She just wants her created beings to “be themselves.” But what she means is, be how she created them to be.
And she’s the bad guy. She’s playing God in this show, and Rebecca Sugar is saying, “If God is telling us that can only be happy by being perfect, as He is perfect, and doing what He created us to do, then He’s wrong. Our imperfections are what make us special—unique—individuals—free—and there is nobody who has the right to take that freedom away from us, not even out creator!”
And you know what?
If God were like White Diamond, like Rebecca Sugar believes Him to be, Steven Universe would be right.
But He is NOT.
God is not a dictator who forces us to conform to a standard of perfection and then smashes us when we don’t meet it. He is a King who made us perfect to begin with, and we rejected him, because He allowed us to do that. He knew that true love was love that had to be chosen, and He wanted us to love Him by choice, so he gave us the option. But Rebecca Sugar doesn’t understand—there was never “Choose God or Choose Yourself.” There was only, “Choose God or Choose Nothing.” There was nothing except God. Then He created everything. There is no version of reality where you have something better than God, or even slightly less good but different, to pick. You’re not jumping from one ship into a smaller one, but at least it’s yours—you’re jumping from one ship into a void, and then complaining that there’s no other ship. That’s humans. That’s not God. / White Diamond didn’t make her creations perfect (Amethyst) and she didn’t make them for love. She made them for power. That’s not the God of the Bible.
Even when we did choose to try and love ourselves instead of God, and therefore warped our ability to perfectly love at all, He didn’t smash us. True, everything fell and was cursed, which is exactly what He warned us would happen if we chose it, but it was a natural consequence of breaking ourselves. And then He didn’t leave us that way. He didn’t give up on us. And He certainly didn’t just zap us, snap His fingers, quick-fix it and turn us all into robots who are extensions of Him, who say they love Him but only because it’s His voice puppeting us to say it.
No. He came to us, chose to give up His life at the exact point on the timeline when Romans, masters in the art of slow, humiliating, torturous death, would be the ones to carry out His crucifixion, and saved us Himself. Through the sacrifice of His own life. And even then, we still have a choice. We get to choose to accept that incredible self-sacrifice when we don’t deserve it, and be given new life and a relationship with the Creator who knows us and loves us better than we can love ourselves or receive love from others—OR we can just keep stubbornly insisting that our slavery to the opposite of what God wants is somehow freedom, and our twisted versions of love are genuine, and we’re not broken, and die like that. Die broken creatures who lived their whole lives stomping their feet and screaming “I’m not a creature, I’m a god!”
Tumblr media
White Diamond sacrifices nothing, because Rebecca Sugar doesn’t know the God of the Bible. She just knows her idea of Him. She’s never actually gotten to know Him. If she had, she’d learn how silly and twisted her idea is.
Because you know what, yeah, if every pork chop were perfect, we wouldn’t have hot dogs. But people aren’t pork chops. And hot dogs have flavor (not better than pork chops) but they are awful for you.
Christians aren’t perfect cuts of meat with no individuality or flavor. Just because we all know and love the same God doesn’t mean we have no personalities. It just means we don’t think so freaking much about what we are, or who we get to be, or what we like and want. Jeez, what a self-centered, narcissistic, self-obsessed way to live. She plays Steven like he’s this wonder-child, innocent and full of heart, who encourages his friends to love and keep trying. But honestly?
Tumblr media
This is very pretty animation but it’s not real. Steven looks happy hugging Steven but self-love doesn’t ultimately get you that.
That’s all based on the premise that what he’s encouraging them to do is actually good, and will make them happy, and will help them love better. And it just won’t. Not in real life. That’s not how any of this works. Self-love is just self-obsession. And that is a sure-fire way to hurt you, and everyone around you.
You’ll never be free by choosing to run to a worse master. You’ll never be satisfied with your crappy attempts at loving yourself, because you were made to be loved flawlessly and forever by someone who is Love Himself.
And choosing to identify with your imperfections doesn’t make you uniquely you. It just makes you exactly like every other human being marching in the same line since the Fall.
White Diamond’s not relational. She’s up high and distant. That’s not God. He made you to be in relationship with Him. He loves you, totally and perfectly, and He proved it by sacrificing for You.
So yeah. That’s the problem with Steven Universe. Come get me, SU fans.

a quick guide to dog lords, telling your arls from your teyrns, and generally how ferelden works
Tumblr media
okay, this isn't quite what anon asked for, by which i mean not at all, but unfortunately they activated my interest in some of my favourite lore. it should hopefully contain a lot of the relevant stuff and i’ll try to branch out to less fereldan specific information in other posts!
okay, let’s start with the hierarchy. there’s four kinds of noble in ferelden
royalty: you know who these guys are. except for during the orlesian occupation, ever since ferelden became one kingdom, it’s been ruled by the theirin family. which i think is for 388 years, i really hope that’s right, i got out a calculator
teyrns: these are super powerful lords, basically banns so powerful that other banns swear fealty to them. they’re second only to the king, who is essentially just the most powerful one of them. there used to be a lot of them, but with one dynasty in power for so long, that kind of opposition has been eroded away. there are only two remaining: the couslands of highever in the north, and the mac tirs of gwaren in the south
arls: these are extra special banns. they answer to a teyrn or king and hold a strategic fortress for them. we know of six—amaranthine, south reach, denerim, redcliffe, west hills, and edgehall—but i’m unsure if that’s because they are only six or because there are unnamed others
banns: these are your common or garden noble, the lowest ranking and most common. this is your local lord type. they seem to vary the most in power, though, with some banns having big speaking roles in the landsmeet
but i kind of should have written that list in the opposite direction. what do i mean by that? well, in your standard medieval hierarchy, and in a lot of the rest of thedas, power comes down from the king, who lets you hold the land. but in ferelden, most of the land is owned by freeholders: commoners, well-off enough to own their land but still not by any means nobles.
how does that work? well, let’s say i’m a freeholder.
i own my land, but thedas is a rough place. if i want to keep my land, i’d better swear fealty to a bann. i’ll pay him a portion of the goods produced on my land, and in return, he’ll protect my land from anyone wanting to beat me up and take all my goods... and also, you know, not beat me up himself, as he probably would if i didn’t have any bann looking after me. it kind of sounds like he has all the power, right? like a medieval protection racket? it’s certainly how he gets his power and wealth
so i, freeholder harker, have signed up with bann jeff. it makes sense, because he’s the closest to my freehold, and i want soldiers to actually get here in time if i’m in trouble. that’s why my family has been swearing fealty to his family for generations. it’s just how things are done
but the thing is: i hate bann jeff. maybe he takes too much of my harvests, maybe he sides with a different freeholder when we go to him with a dispute, maybe his men don’t mind their pleases and thank yous when they come for my goods. i’m well within my rights to say fuck bann jeff and leave him. especially if there’s another bann nearby who would be perfectly happy to take my goods instead and treat me right. and the less freeholders bann jeff has, the less resources and men he has to make a fuss about it with. if bann jeff pisses off enough people, he might not have any freeholders left at all. and where will his wealth and power come from then? maybe soon he won’t be a bann at all
of course, bann jeff’s family might feud with the family of the bann that stole me away for a few hundred years. but that’s hardly my problem, is it? “courting” someone else’s vassals is apparently the biggest cause of conflict within the bannorn
anyway, this isn’t just how banns work; it’s how all power theoretically works in ferelden. there are no serfs/“unfree” men. every peasant has a right to go where he will and choose which freeholder he works for, just as every freeholder has the right to choose their bann, and banns who swear to teyrns can break away. (the latter is probably less common because a teyrn could fuck you up. i’m guessing you’d have to get the king’s backing about it to survive that.) and even the king answers to his lessers in the landsmeet, the super ancient gathering of nobles where law is made, which can override the king on any matter of law. (but they’re not going to do it if the king is really popular or powerful, because. you know. there’s a limit to all things called common sense and they would prefer not to get squashed about it.) but generally, everyone who holds power in ferelden has to curry favours with their so-called lessers in order to keep their goodwill.
everywhere else in thedas thinks this is weird as hell, by the way. having to court the approval of those beneath you? even the king having to do that? wtf? but the level of freedom means everything to fereldans. it’s their highest ideal and they’re really proud of it.
(the people who really don’t have a voice are what the ttrpg calls “low freemen”, which according to its handbook, consists of criminals, prostitutes, and elves. they still have the right to freedom of movement and to be paid for their work, but they’re not going to have freeholders and banns seeking their favour and speaking for them, and they typically have to resort to bribery for entrance to cities, their homes are bought and sold by others on a whim, things like that. ultimately it makes their position incredibly vulnerable to abuse, as we see in the games. i’m sure we’ve all played the tabris origin. there’s a reason the potential boon to get a bann for the alienage is so wild.)
so, let’s say you made it, everyone loves and/or tolerates you, and you’re a noble. what good does that do you and what can you do? firstly, you have a voice in the landsmeet, which is super important and means the king wants your goodwill and advice. more generally, you have three basic functions of a noble: raising taxes/tribute, commanding soldiers, and dispensing justice. nobles are expected to live off the wealth provided by their land and it would be hugely looked down on if they did work instead, with exceptions for, like, military careers and the chantry, which are respectable for their status. they raise militia from the commoners when necessary, and they also have trained soldiers or possibly knights (see postscript) in their service. that means you can protect your land and you can win glory and spoils when the kingdom goes to war, it also means you’ll be expected to provide those men when your liegelord calls for them. and lastly the law is their responsibility. remember how in the awakening dlc you had to make judgements as the arl of amaranthine? like that! the smaller scale you are, the smaller scale it’s going to be. in turn, if you want a dispute sorted by a higher power, you have to go up to your liegelord, maybe a teyrn or the king, or if you can’t get one of them, a more powerful bann or arl in the area. possibly the chantry would be an alternate option? if it’s just about finding someone you will both listen to, which is usually the main issue
some privileges other than the standard “power over those beneath you” that you can typically expect to belong to the noble class, even if it’s not specific to dragon age: the right to carry a sword, the right to have a coat of arms, the right to precedence on formal occasions and a special seat up front in your local chantry... sometimes niche ones, like fabrics and clothing that are only permissible to wear for people of a certain rank, so it distinguishes them. you can expect favours from/common class interests with your king, you would expect to be given a trial or treated chivalrously if things did not go your way, depending on era you might be captured for ransom in battle rather than killed outright, you probably have exemptions from certain royal taxation... etc. etc.
that’s what i have! i hope these are some helpful fundamentals and that anyone who has more knowledge than me on any aspect feels welcome to contribute it
P.S. as an aside, i’m a little confused about the fereldan use of knights. they definitely exist as lesser nobility, but i don’t understand how they fit into the hierarchy. a real knight was typically a vassal who held land from his liegelord and fought for him in exchange. i... don’t know how that works in the context of land ownership mostly going upwards. they’re definitely around, anyone addressed as ser is a knight, you have the knights of redcliffe and people like ser jory and ser cauthrien. (someone in an order like the templars has the rank of knight and gets ser and everything, but is not a noble.) as a rule of thumb i think generally they’re probably just members of noble families with that dedicated military training and no greater title to lay claim to? i’m basing that on stuff like nathaniel howe being sent as a squire to his mother’s cousin, a chevalier; if he’d completed that he probably would have been a knight unless/until he inherited his father’s place? i don’t know. i’m making this up. and on the other hand, there’s very little distinction in fereldan between your regular noble and a some kind of warrior class, which is why i struggle to see the purpose. (there are also inexplicable career soldiers who are not knights. what the hell is funding that upkeep and armour, buddy. you and whose land ownership? this is why you were fighting the darkspawn with your whole arms out, aveline. stop trying to imply ferelden has a standing army you can go off and join. yes i see you carver lore. i will not buy it.) ANYWAY, because knights are more prevalent in certain areas, i do wonder if it’s an import from the long orlesian occuption, based on the knightly order of chevaliers? i don’t fucking know. worth chewing on

“Well, I’ll be damned…”
You pinch your eyes shut and steel yourself at the sound of the all too familiar Texan drawl, hanging on to the hope that perhaps he isn’t talking to you. You’re out of luck though, and moments later Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin slides into the open space next to you at the bar, already posed in a casual lean as he looks you up and down appraisingly.
It makes your teeth grind.
It makes your face hot.
“If it isn’t Mirage. Would have invited you to play with us if I’d known you were here earlier…” Hangman cocks his head, and his lips tip up in an infuriatingly perfect smile. “But one can never really be sure if you’re around or not… and that's before you get in a cockpit,” he grins, but when you meet his eye at last, he looks away from you, toward Penny who seems to approach in the nick of time, saving you from needing to respond.
You blink down at your drink, and finish it quickly, unnerved by what you think might have just been a compliment of sorts from Hangman. You’d been stationed together previously, though you weren’t friends, so you’d been expecting something a little more acidic in nature. You’d heard him interact with other aviators, knew he liked to push and poke them, usually got away with it too. For some reason though, he’d never really gone there with you and frankly you’ve always just chalked it up to not being worth his time. In fact, you’re pretty sure the only times you’d ever actually spoken had been in the sky. To be completely honest, you’re more than a little surprised that he remembers you at all.
You didn’t exactly go out of your way to stand out…
You were naturally quiet, which wasn’t helped by your social anxiety, resulting in most people describing you as extremely shy. They wouldn’t be wrong, you suppose, you did tend to keep to yourself, the idea of having too many eyes on you all but unbearable to you. But if you’d thought a roomful of people singing happy birthday to you was bad, somehow being under the unwavering stare of Hangman is approximately one thousand times worse.
“Penny, my dear… I’ll have,” he stops to glance pointedly down at your now finished beer, adjusts his stance to lean even more and unwittingly makes the muscles in his bicep bulge.
“Five more on the Old Timer,” Hangman says, nodding to the man who sits on the other side of the bar.
Internally you blanch, but externally, you say nothing and give even less away, feeling a little ping of satisfaction that apparently, you know something Hangman doesn’t. Before he’d come along, you’d been carefully watching the interaction between Penny and Captain Mitchell. You’d never met the man before, but you knew how to read military insignia, which at this point, was more than you could say for Hangman, who dismisses him quickly.
You wonder if Monday morning you’ll be able to work up the nerve to tease him about it.
You’re distracted from your thoughts when Penny returns with the requested drinks. You had no real intentions of going and hanging out with Hangman and the others, but before you can excuse yourself, your empty beer is smoothly plucked from your hands, replaced quickly with a brand new one.
“Help me carry these back?” Hangman asks then, jerking his head in the vague direction of the pool table. You frown when he immediately takes off walking, not actually letting you help him at all, all four beers still slotted between his fingers. You find yourself following him anyway, as if he’d placed some kind of spell over you.
Hangman stops ahead of you at the ancient jukebox, looking back over his shoulder at you, nodding in a pleased manner when he sees you trailing behind. He waits for you, gaze never leaving your form, even as he nods to the space next to him. You awkwardly step up to the spot opposite to him, and look past the glass and at the selection inside. Hangman, once more, takes up a lean, this time against the rickety machine.
“Would you be so kind as to select track number…” he trails off as he checks the list of songs, but quickly flicks his gaze back to you, and smiles bright, tauntingly, again. “Eighty-Six?” he asks, but it's barely a question. You nod, and swallow, shifting from holding your beer with two hands to holding it with just one. You carefully tap the chunky ‘eight’ and ‘six’ keys as he watches. The machine’s little analogue screen confirms that your song is next up, and nervously, you look back up at Hangman, horrified to find he’s just been staring at your face for the past however long.
“S’been a while, Mirage.” He drawls, making you blink rapidly and look away.
“Has it?” Is all you can manage meekly in reply, surprised when he lets out a genuine sounding laugh. He hums warmly, and you practically feel it in your chest.
“And yet,” he lifts hand, two beers held expertly between his fingers, but he extends it to tap your nose, almost making you almost flinch.
“You haven’t changed at all.” Hangman grins Cheshire-like down at you, before his eyes narrow ever so slightly, and he leans in even closer while flicking his eyes up and down your form again.
“I don’t bite you know,” he tells you, his voice sounding serious, but his somberness lasts mere seconds.
“Well, not unless you ask me to first, sweetheart,” he winks and his smile grows large as your eyes grow wide and you splutter, flustered.
Your face grows hot with slight embarrassment, a wave of inner resentment at his teasing washing through you.
Hangman laughs, seemingly bored with you now, and he turns to walk back toward the pool tables. Without even looking, he beckons you to follow with one finger on his still occupied hands. For a moment your pique prevents you from doing so, certain that if you were to dip into the crowd now, he’d not care enough to seek you out again, let alone notice you were missing.
You know he didn’t mean it, you know his flirting is just to get a rise, but you also know that he’d never do it to Phoenix, or Halo, and a little bit of you hates yourself for being such a marked pushover. You make the decision now that you won’t let him do it again, if you can help it.
Your eyes travel past Hangman then, towards the pool tables where you can now see another figure has joined the other gathered aviators, and for the first time all evening, you don’t feel nervous to go join them.
You follow after Hangman, but quickly diverge from his path, cutting around a gathered group of Navy personnel to get there faster. As you approach, you take a moment to shake off any lingering anxiety, before gently laying a hand on the faded Hawaiian shirt in front of you, doing your best to keep yourself from bouncing on your heels.
Rooster half looks ready to wave off whoever is trying to get his attention, but when his shaded eyes land on you, he spins his whole body to face you, grinning widely in unguarded excitement as he gathers you up in his arms.
“Miri!” he exclaims warmly, and you can’t help the laughter that bubbles out of you when he briefly lifts you off the ground.
“I was just about to ask Phoenix if she’d seen you yet.” Rooster informs you.
“Seen who?” Phoenix steps around him, frowning as she quickly glances you over, though it disappears quickly.
“Yeah, that about tracks…” Rooster mutters mostly to himself.
“Nat, this is Mirage, you know her right?” Rooster introduces the two of you, and while neither of you make to shake hands, you only feel friendly energy radiate off the other woman, even as she openly looks you over now, nodding at Rooster’s words.
“Right, I have heard about you… I guess there's no real mystery behind your callsign… I didn’t even realise you were here… Sorry,” she tells you bluntly, but you appreciate her straightforwardness.
“They said ‘Wallflower’ was too long.” You joke lightly, and the other woman smiles. A moment passes between you, and you get the distinct feeling that Phoenix has become determined to never let you go unnoticed in her presence again.
You aren’t sure just yet if you appreciate that, but you are sure that you’ve just made a friend.
“Mirage?” Another voice joins then and you look to your left, smiling again when you see another familiar face.
“Bob!” you move to embrace him too, not seeing the look shared between Phoenix and Payback who watch you in surprise.
“Huh. Figures.”
-
Neither you or Hangman have moved since Rooster and Mav went down. The rest of Dagger had returned an hour ago, mission complete. There was no reason for either of you to be on standby.
And yet.
When the call came through that Dagger Two had been hit, both you and Hangman had separately requested to be launched, to help, but you’d been denied.
As a rule, you made yourself easy to work with, even if those around you were less compliant, and you’d experienced plenty of that, flying alongside Hangman the past few weeks. Whether it was him leaving you to get shot down in training, or refusing to fly as a team during simulations. And yet, despite his habit of ‘hanging you out to dry’ being the reason behind his callsign, deep down, you’ve never once doubted flying alongside him in the real thing like the others seemed to.
You’re glad for that lack of hesitation now, glad that it only takes a single moment of eye contact from across the tarmac for the two of you to understand one another perfectly. Glad that when you got word that somehow, Rooster was supersonic again, you already know his answer before you even ask.
“Hangman? Hondo’s cleared us for take off with the ground crew, against orders. You with me?” you ask quietly, looking over at your wingman, knowing that when you return you’ll most certainly be court marshalled, but unable to sit and do nothing any longer.
“To hell and back, Mirage,” comes his immediate reply.
You see him move in sync with you, both of your canopy’s lowering at the same time.
You ignore the panicked voices ordering you to stand down, long enough for Hondo and the others to get you on the catapult, and by then it’s too late.
In two seconds you’re propelled from zero to over a hundred and sixty, and in your ears you hear Hangman right behind you.
-
“Do you want to get a coffee with me?” The question makes you jump, your drink almost sloshing everywhere. The sudden voice, as well as the person it belonged to, takes you completely by surprise, but you’re thankful he doesn’t draw attention to your startling.
Up until moments ago, you’d been peacefully watching the ocean toss and turn, burying your feet in the damp sand and thinking about what you were going to do with your upcoming two weeks of post-mission leave.
Most of Dagger were a little further up the shore, a bonfire crackling away, although you weren’t the only one to have splintered off. Mav and Rooster were currently standing in the shallows talking, and you think Halo and Phoenix have moved to sit apart from the others as well. You had managed to sneak away easily enough, content to just sit on your own for a while, though your efforts appear to have been mostly in vain, if the man now plopped in the sand beside you is any indicator.
You blink at each other.
“What?!” you blurt out dumbly, not completely certain you really understood what he’d said. Hangman’s lips press into a thin line, and he looks away from you, linking his hands together around his knees, and staring out at the rolling waves.
“Coffee. Would you like to get one with me?” He repeats, sounding only a smidge impatient, but it still doesn't clear up much for you.
“I… No, I heard you the first time… I… I just don’t understand… why?”
Over the past three weeks you’ve been forced more out of your shell than you ever have before. It was torture. It was wonderful.
Part of you pats yourself on the back for being able to ask him so starightly, but another part of you slaps yourself in the face for questioning him.
Hangman turns to look at you apprehensively.
“Are you asking why coffee or why am I asking you?” He speaks slowly and carefully, his face blank and devoid of any hint he was teasing, though you think he might be anyway.
“Why… Why are you asking me?” You push, shuffling your feet in the sand, drawing his attention for a moment. He looks back at your face and frowns slightly, cocking his head.
“Because I like you? And that is usually what somebody does when they like someone. Ask them.” He answers, and this time you definitely get the impression he’s politely trying not to laugh, but for once, you don’t feel like you’re on the outside of the joke.
Still, you find yourself taken somewhat aback at his confession, admitted so easily and freely, as if it shouldn’t come as a surprise to you, which confuses you.
“Like me? I didn’t even think you wanted me as a squadmate, let alone–” you stop speaking, but only because Hangman cuts his eyes sharply away from you to glare out at the ocean.
“Well, I do.” He says kind of indignantly, all things considered, and eyes you almost sourly. “You can just say no if you don’t–”
“–No, I do!” you quickly cut him off, because at the end of it all, you’re a little too much of a hopeless romantic to let this moment pass you by. Especially when for the past three weeks you haven't been able to get rid of the odd heart skips you got whenever Hangman acknowledged your presence at all.
And besides, you weren’t blind.
Hangman was ridiculously pretty, and not anywhere near as much of an asshole as he wanted people to believe.
He looks at you blankly for a moment, processing your words, before his face breaks out in a smile. It isn’t one of his usual smirks or tauntingly pearly grins, though. It’s softer, sweeter, and you stare mesmerised as he looks away from you again quickly, and down at his linked hands, nodding.
Two days pass, and even when you’re sitting across from him in a small, niche little coffee shop you had no idea existed, you feel like you’re in a dream.
You’ve never seen Hangman out of uniform, you realise, and it’s a whole new experience you’re forced quickly to process when he stands to go get your drinks.
Dark jeans, white shirt, casual jacket. It’s a simple outfit, but goddamn does he make it look good. Nervously you have to wonder if your white and blue sundress, sneakers and bomber jacket were having the same effect on him, though you highly doubt it.
He returns quickly, attentively, placing both your coffees down, before folding himself into his chair once more. You both look at each other awkwardly before you distract yourself by taking a sip of your coffee. Hangman seems to do the same, but instead of drinking, he begins tearing into several little sugar packets, and emptying them into his coffee foam.
You huff out a tiny laugh before you can stop yourself, and his eyes quickly snap to you.
“What?” he asks defensively, but the corners of his mouth twitch.
“I just… I guess I never figured you for a sweet coffee kinda guy…”
“Oh, and why is that?” his twitching lips turn into a full smirk, but it isn’t his usual Hangman smirk. You chew on the inside of your lip, and sip your coffee once more before answering.
“I’m not sure. I guess you just don’t seem like the type of guy who…” you trail off, unsure of what exactly you’re trying to say and even more; how to say it.
“Listen, I may have rippling, glistening abdominals, but I have a sweet tooth,” he says, putting on the defensiveness now, leaning toward you and pointing at himself. You pinch your brows together and purse your lips, nodding vehemently.
“I know how to have fun,” he tells you, tipping a third sugar into his coffee.
“Of that I don’t really doubt, Hangman,” you say, but his gaze snaps back to you again, almost sharply this time.
“Jake.” he corrects you.
You pause.
Of course, you knew his first name, but you’re fairly certain you’ve never once used it. Hangman has just always been, well, Hangman. But you weren’t in a cockpit right now, he’d asked you out, this wasn’t the time and place for callsigns. He wasn’t Hangman, and you weren’t Mirage.
“Jake,” you say slowly, carefully, as if he’ll tell you any moment he’s just kidding around. But he doesn’t.
“Miri,” he replies, slow like you, but softer, and it’s silly, but it sounds so nice coming from him. You shake your head and swallow.
“Jake, if you don’t like coffee, why did you ask me out for one?” you ask him, watching as he blinks slowly at you, before his gaze slowly drops to the latte in front of him.
“If I asked you for a drink, you might’ve got the wrong idea,” he starts, speaking carefully. “If I asked you for dinner, it could be too formal, too awkward–”
“–It’s already awkward,” you point out, making him grimace slightly, so you shrug.
“Coffee just seemed like– I just wanted to–” he cuts himself off and drops both hands to the table.
“Look– I just didn’t want there to be any misunderstanding about what this was. I like you. I know you like coffee.” Jake admits all in a flurry, his voice quiet, and his eyes flickering around as he speaks.
For as long as you’ve known him, you’ve never seen Jake unable to maintain eye contact, actually it seemed to be something he took immense pride in, and it always made you slightly uncomfortable, but right now he appears completely incapable, and it's not a side of Hangman you’ve ever seen before. You realise you might be meeting Jake properly for the first time.
You decide to let him off easy, with all the newfound courage Dagger had been feeding into you the past few weeks, and you change the subject.
“You know, when you came up to me at the Hard Deck that first night, I was kinda surprised you remembered me at all,” you say slowly, sipping your coffee and eying him evenly. Jake frowns then, but it smooths out into a cool grin, and he leans back in his chair, cocking his head.
“Are you kidding? I’m always clocking possible threats.” he tells you, making you cough lightly.
“How am I a threat to you?!” you ask in disbelief.
“Oh, I could name a few,” Jake teases, nodding at you, but flicking his eyes away, almost making a show of clocking an incoming group of customers behind you.
You weren’t clueless, you knew you were a part of Dagger for a reason. You were damn good at your job, but still, Jake was Hangman, not only was he an aviator you respected, he was an aviator with very high personal standards, and for him to see you as comparable to him… well truthfully, you find yourself rather humbled.
And then flustered, at his clear unabashed flirting.
“I always thought you flirting was just you messing with me,” you admit, and he grins wider.
“Can’t it be both?” he asks, leaning forward again, and clasping his hands together. He seems to have no problem maintaining eye contact now, you note. When you cold-stare him, he simply shrugs.
“You’re cute when you get all flustered and nervous, what can I say?”
“Literally anything else.” You grumble back.
You finish your coffee and push the cup to the side, crossing your arms on the table and leaning forward like he was. Jake mimics you, pushing his own coffee away, clearly with no intention to start, let alone finish it. You aren’t as good as him with eye contact though, no matter how much you’d come out of your shell, so you take the opportunity to glance sideways out the window, only for your gaze to catch on something.
Your heart thumps loudly for a moment in your ears, and you wonder briefly if you should act on the thoughts popping around your brain right now, or if you should just stay put.
You lean forward even more, and flick your eyes back to Jake who is staring at you curiously.
“Hey, I have an idea…” you start, chewing on the inside of your lip, before standing up. You only hesitate a little before offering your hand.
“You with me?” you ask without thinking, the words the same as the ones you ask time and again to your wingmen while in flight manoeuvres. Jake stares up at you for a moment, before he too stands, your heart skipping when he takes your hand. With a tiny squeeze you almost don’t notice, Jake grins, and nods.
-
“Oh, hey! Stop! That’s not fair!” You elbow Jake in the side, but it’s already too late. The hand he’d shot out to block your light gun had done its job, and where you’d previously been neck in neck for score on the dual Time Crisis cabinet, Jake’s character was now cheering in victory, while your screen was asking you to insert more coins and try again.
Jake chortles and you both slot your plastic guns back into their plastic holsters at the front of the machine.
“We never agreed to no interference,” he says proudly, and you sock him in the arm only half as hard as you can.
“I didn’t think it needed to be said!” you exclaim pointedly. Jake grins down at you, and collects his tickets.
“Quit complaining, all these are gonna go towards whatever stuffed bear or whatever the hell you want anyway.” He rolls his eyes, and gestures to the shoddy ‘rewards’ counter of the arcade you’d spotted from the coffee shop.
“I want the Minion.” You state firmly after glancing at the redemption counter for three seconds, and spotting the big ugly yellow creature on the top shelf. Jake sighs in a put-upon manner and shakes his head.
“See, this is how you know I really like you. I’m willing to ignore that,” he says, and you actually think he might be serious this time. You grin up at him as he takes your elbow, and begins leading you toward the back of the room.
“What are you going to cheat me out of kicking your ass at this time?” you glance around you, goosebumps trailing up and down your arm as Jake lets his hand slide from around your elbow, down your forearm and into your hand, which he squeezes as if in warning.
“I didn’t cheat, I simply used black ops tactics,” he says, narrowing his eyes at you. You purse your lips at him and narrow your own eyes back.
“Cheat.” you say again, pronouncing each syllable deliberately.
You come to a stop then, and you look up at the old photo booth machine. Jake pulls out a fistfull of tickets, squinting his eyes at the label with instructions, before looking back over at the redemption counter. He seems to run some numbers before he looks back down at you with a grin, and waves the strings of crumpled tickets.
“My cheating means we can use the booth, and still have enough for a Kevin plush, so I don’t wanna hear no more complaining outta you,” he waggles a finger in front of your nose, and you blink up at him sheepishly.
“Jake– I don’t really want the Minion…” you say, before your voice turns suspicious. “Anyway, how do you know which one is Kevin?!” you lift an eyebrow, only for Jake to roll his eyes and push you into the curtained booth.
You orient yourself in the tiny enclosed space, looking around you as Jake takes a moment to feed several lines of win-tickets into the machine before he follows you. He’s forced to duck down real low, making the space even smaller, and you both stare for a moment at the small seat barely big enough for one person, let alone two.
“Well, either you can sit on my lap, or I can sit on yours, darlin’, but I know which one I’d prefer.” Jake intones lowly, and for the first time in an hour or so, you feel yourself get all flustered again. Honestly, you’d kind of forgotten about the explicitly romantic tone of this meeting until now, and more than that, your stomach begins to flip and flop like the first time you’d gotten in a jet when he eases past you and drops himself onto the bench before patting his thighs.
“Jake, maybe if you just move over a litt–”
“No can do, honey,” and he’s not even trying to tease you, he demonstrates the spread of his legs, and the tight fit into the booth, before looking back up at you expectantly again.
“Okay… Okay…” you say more for your own sanity than anything else, and turn, quickly perching yourself on his leg before you can really think too hard about what you're doing.
Your efforts are for naught though, because the moment you’re sat down, Jake’s hands are tugging you against him further, sitting you more comfortably on the thick expanse of his thigh, and you barely repress the noise that nearly escapes you at the feeling of his fingers digging into your hips.
“There we go, sweetheart,” he says softly, almost to himself, and moves his hands to wrap around you completely. If he notices your little noise, which by his self satisfied smirk he definitely has, he thankfully chooses not to say anything. Your face grows warm, not only at the hold he has on you but at the pet name too.
“Did you just call me ‘sweetheart’?” you ask, sounding half bewildered, half incredulous, forgetting for a moment where exactly you were and why. As you look over your shoulder at the man behind you, Jake stares back, his smirk still in place even as his eyes seem to search your face, his own expression mostly unreadable.
“Would you prefer ‘honey’?” he almost purrs, his voice distinctly amused, but you notice that he doesn’t back down, doesn’t apologise or step back.
It makes your stomach twist up in knots. It makes your heartbeat skip like a record.
You turn away from him, shake your head.
“It’s fine,” you tell him bashfully, wanting to grumble slightly when against your back you sense what you think is him puffing his chest a little. Quickly, you add: “Not at work, though…”
Jake chortles, but as you peek over your shoulder to look at him again, he’s relenting, his smirk gone and replaced with a far softer smile as he nods.
“Not at work, though.” he repeats lowly in confirmation, almost making you jump when he shifts one hand to steady you around the waist, his other reaching out to begin fiddling with the controls on the lit up screen in front of you.
“Alright, let's get this show on the road shall we?”
By the time you’re exiting the tiny cubicle, Jake’s hands still attached to your hips as he follows you out, you’re both laughing quietly to yourselves. You’re amazed to find just how much Jake can affect you, either setting you at complete ease or sending you into a tizzy, depending on what he’s said or done. Usually you wouldn’t be surprised by other people’s effects on you, you were jumpy and anxious by nature, but it was rare that somebody who put you on edge as much as Jake did, could also give you such comfort.
When he detaches his hands from your sides at last to survey the sheets of photos spat out by the booth, you marvel at how much you start to miss the contact. With all the subtlety you can muster, you inch closer to him, under the guise of getting a look at the photos as well, though really, you’re only hoping that you might prompt him into reaching out for you again.
Jake chortles and points at a set of two pictures. In one, you’re both grinning madly, pulling silly faces, and in the other, you’re wearing softer smiles, and you notice now, that Jake had pushed his face a little closer to yours. It makes heat rise in your cheeks, not just at the seeming intimacy of the photo, but truthfully, of how much you like seeing the two of you like that.
“You won’t mind if I keep these, will ya?” Jake asks, looking over at you. You simply shake your head, and he grins a little wider, carefully tearing off the two pictures before pulling out his wallet and tucking them inside, for sake keeping, you assume.
Jake lets you keep the rest, and absently, you fold them into the zipper in your purse, too distracted by the fact that he does indeed take your hand again, before quickly releasing it to instead wrap his arm over your shoulder. You can’t stop yourself from smiling a little as you blink dumbly up at him, and he grins down at you, ducking his face even closer to yours.
“Now sweetheart, I believe I was instructed to win you a minion plush.”

You try to avoid Phoenix’s hard stare, and focus on wiping down your helmet.
“You’re acting weird,” she finally announces, still managing to make you jump despite your anticipation. You then immediately proceed to do yourself exactly zero favours, proving her point by refusing to look up at her, choosing to instead hurriedly continue with your current task.
“What? No I’m not. I’m fine. You’re being weird,” you argue, wincing at your clearly abysmal attempts at behaving like a normal adult human. You start re-cleaning the pristine surface of your helmet, your nerves conjuring imperfections you logically know don’t exit.
Just before you completely lose yourself down the spiral of unhealthy compulsive behaviours, A hand, Nat’s hand, stops your own. Tugging the cloth out of your hands and taking your helmet away from you, she places it down on the workbench you stand on opposite sides of. Chewing your lip, you at last meet her eye.
“Miri, it’s okay to have a crush–”
“–I don’t have a crush!” You blurt out both far too quickly to be believable, as well as in sheer panic. Your face grows immediately hot, and you can tell Phoenix is trying not to laugh at the show you’re putting on so poorly. Her lips twitch, but her expression softens from amusement into something softer, mixed with traces of pity. Just when you’re starting to debate the pros and cons of sprinting out of the room, getting in your jet, and then flying away never to be seen again, she relents, releasing you from her eye contact and making herself busy as she tidies up bits and bobs littering the workbench.
You swallow thickly, and stay watching her, your heart rate only spiking higher as your anxiety builds once more at her sudden apparent indifference. You follow her movements without moving an inch, sharply aware that not only was she still very much focused solely on scrutinising you, but even more mortifyingly, that this conversation was far from being over.
“Nat,” you say with surprisingly more strudiness than you believed possible, pausing to swallow the dryness in your mouth. “I don’t have a crush, okay?” You wait for her to look back over at you, nothing but disbelief rolling off of her faux-casualty, giving you a bullshit shrug and a smile.
“Okay.” she says. You had hoped that would be enough, but you should have known better. You clear your throat again.
“Nat,” you say, only making yourself louder, as if that was a sign of nothing going on. She looks up at you somewhat blankly. You know you’re totally screwed already as her eyes dip to watch your finger begin quickly tapping on the bench before you with barely any acknowledgement from yourself. “There’s nothing weird going on,” you say, pleading with your voice and face and every atom of your being that she drops it.
She drops something, unfortunately it’s not the subject though, but you still feel some semblance of stress leaving your body as her fake lack of care dissolves, and she leans back to rest against the cabinet behind her. She crosses her arms and shrugs again while letting out a soft, pitying sigh, which this time doesn’t raise your non-existent heckles as much as it had when it first showed its face.
You stare at one another, at what you think is an impasse and wordless agreement to now never talk of this episode in your friendship ever again, but once again, you should have known better.
“If it’s any consolation, I think he has a crush on you too, so it's not like it’s a total waste of energy… despite all evidence to the contrary,” She says conversationally at first, before muttering out the last part under her breath.
“He doesn’t,” you state with so much certainty you almost forget for a moment that it’s not even a little bit true. Instead, crossing your arms too, you feel like a middle schooler having a much too serious fight with her friend at lunch. “We’ve just become closer, like all of the squad have. You’re just noticing it cause you want to!” you’re a little taken aback by the sound logic of your own reasoning, all points earned to your side then immediately becoming forfeit when you can’t help yourself from stupidly continuing to speak. “Why? Has he said something?!”
Your outburst of near-giddy excitement destroys all chances of you walking this back, and you find yourself with only one option left available. But your prior readiness to exit out of this failed interaction at roughly 300 kts/min becomes soberingly not so fun to fantasise about when you sheepishly remember the current charges against you, for the theft of the $70 million dollar military aircraft you’d technically stolen when you and Jake had taken a joy ride to pick up Mav and Rooster.
You're snapped back into the present as Natasha Trace regards you unreadably and slowly lifts one perfect eyebrow at you. You cover your face and hang your head, you reason with your now permanently mortified brain that if you just admitted to the thing she already believed to be true, she’d stop looking any closer, possibly finding out something actually secret.
It helps that your embarrassment for the flurry of extremely obvious questions is very real, and you groan into your palms. You hear before you see Phoenix laugh, listening to her chortle at your outing yourself, but you notice that he demeanour is warmer now, and she pushes herself up to sit on the top of the bench between you, crossing her legs.
“He’s not said a thing, but he doesn’t need to,” she tells you, seemingly glad to just be able to share her findings and observations, which you uncomfortably realise have been going on for a lot longer than you realised.
“It's what he’s not saying,” she explains, and you blink up at her in genuine curiosity.
“Huh?”
Phoenix turns her gaze upward as she thinks.
“He doesn’t make fun of you… or snipe at you, not really,” she begins, resting her head in her hand. “To be honest when we first met, I was expecting to defend you. You’re a good pilot, a great one, but Hangman isn’t exactly known for recognising that in others…”
You frown up at her, unsure of anything to say to abate her suspicions.
She’s not exactly wrong, even when the two of you were first stationed together, he’d never poked fun at you, never really called you out. To be fair, he hadn’t really acknowledged your presence at all, but these days you knew that was more to do with the fact that all this time, Hangman had liked you, had seen you were shy, and didn’t like crowds, and as you’d found out recently, often made more of a spectacle of himself to draw attention away from you.
You have to stop yourself from smiling dreamily at the thought of him.
“And I mean, he disobeyed direct orders for you, he knew what you were doing, and he went with you anyway… I’m just saying Miri, I don’t think you’d be disappointed if you were to say something–”
You quickly cut her off.
“I’m not saying anything to him!”
At last, given your already clear admittance of your supposed ‘crush’, Phoenix relents, holding up her hands and shrugging.
“Just think about it alright? It’s even sort of… cute, in a weird, Hangman-y way.”
You grumble at her, but thankfully she doesn’t bring it up again for the rest of the afternoon. Still, you leave the workshop with a sparkling helmet, cleaner than you think it ever has been, and with a pressing matter to relay to your boyfriend, most of which involves playing it much, much cooler in front of Phoenix the next time you all hang out.

You know you’ve made some personal growth when you answer the door in your matching Star Wars X-Wing PJ’s and slippers, and aren’t immediately mortified.
Jake stands there, already grinning back at you, and looking like a greek god sent to earth in his dark jeans and plain white shirt.
“Red Leader Mirage, your rescuer has arrived!” he announces, doing what you judge to be a surprising spot-on impression of Lt. Porkins from Star Wars, shooting a lazily salute down at slippers
Unfortunately, you aren’t given the chance to ask him more about his perfect Red Six however, as he’s almost immediately pushing away from where he’d been leaning against the side of your door, posing for your perusal you assume, and holds out a brown paper bag for you to take. You swipe it, and shoot him a thankful smile.
“Thank you, Jake, really…” you side-step his self-congratulatory jokes, but he doesn’t seem phased, simply shrugging, and taking a step closer to you, letting one hand rest gently on your shoulder, before he hooks it and tugs you into him.
You’d started getting all-too familiar with just how physically attentive Jake seemed to be, something you would never have guessed about him several weeks ago, but had come to terms with now. Clingy was never a word you would have used to describe him before. He hugs you briefly, then pulls back to look down at you, his brow furrowed and his expression filled with genuine concern, another thing you’d been getting more familiar with.
“How’re you feeling?” he asks, inviting himself in by walking you backwards and kicking your door closed lightly behind him. You’d come not to mind this sort of thing either, but mostly because you know if you asked him to leave again, he would, no questions asked. That was another new thing you’d been learning about Jake Seresin.
In comparison to how Hangman could be up in the sky, Jake was entirely understanding, one hundred percent supportive, and almost a little too observant when it came to your particular anxieties. It meant he often knew without you saying when to push you, and when to not, and on the occasion that you did need to say, he always respected those boundaries.
It was starting to make you nervous, how much you were growing to like him.
“Cramps are kicking my ass, but other than that, mostly fine. Thank you for these,” you try again, hoping that he really understands just how much you appreciate him coming over for you tonight. Never in your life would you have imagined feeling comfortable enough to ask Hangman to stop by the pharmacy and pick you up sanitary products, and never would you have imagined he’d make no issue of it.
“Sure,” he says, again with a shrug. “You want me to head out?” he asks then, tipping his head back at your door, even as he inches his face closer to yours, brushing his nose tip against yours. Your lips quirk, then break out into a full smile when he grins before dipping low enough to press a kiss to the corner of your mouth. Your stomach somersaults and pulls at least ten G’s for sure as he continues to brush his lips against yours teasingly.
This hadn’t taken much getting used to at all. Jake was a good kisser, and had proved it after your second date, almost in the exact place you were now, both his hands cupping your cheeks and his lips full on yours, hungry and insistent. That had been almost four weeks ago now, but after his hands had tugged your hips flush to his, you’d quickly put the breaks on.
You were still slightly uncertain about going further with Jake so soon. The fact was, you worked together in a high impact, high stress job, and if anything should happen between you, it would be easier to keep things professional if you took it slow
Jake had, to your slight surprise, though you aren't sure exactly what you were expecting, nodded slowly and taken a step back. He’d told you that the only thing he wanted more than you, was for you to want him too. You’d had to explain that your position wasn’t because you didn’t want him, which had led to more making out, but he hadn’t pushed to go further and he’d left that night with the affirmation that however long you wanted to wait was alright by him.
“No, you can stay,” you tell him, wrapping your arms around his neck to stop him from pulling away too much as you try not to full-on pout. Jake smiles against your lips and presses into you further, moving to push you against the wall, where he crowds your space entirely and stops teasing you, capturing your lips with his at last.
You’re about to experimentally slide your hand up his shirt, a thought that had been lingering in your mind more and more these past few days, but your kiss is over too soon, and he pulls back, leaving you breathless.
“Weren’t you waiting for me, so you could do chores?” he prompts, nearly making you grumble. Instead you nod, and gently push back against him, heading towards your bedroom just down the main hall.
“You can wait in here if you like,” you suggest, feeling a little nervous about the idea, but it was something you’d been thinking about for a while now. Even if you and Jake weren’t sleeping together, that didn’t mean the two of you couldn’t sleep together, did it? It was something you’d wanted, specifically with him, but not really something you’d ever experienced before. You were ready to move out of these early stages of your relationship, eager to push yourself and your limits just a little, so you could settle into something more comfortable with Jake, something where you weren’t always a little surprised when he touched you, or called you by one of his innumerable pet names.
Jake shoves his hands in his pockets and nods, clearly thinking through what this invitation could mean as he follows you quietly.
“Um, I feel like I should say ‘excuse the mess’, but you know–” you cut yourself off and gesture around your bedroom when you both have entered. Jake snorts.
“Well that’s what being in the Navy gets you. I won’t judge if you say it anyway,” he tells you lightly, and you scoff.
“Yes you will!” you insist, and are met with a confident, familiar cheshire-grin.
“Mhm, but only a little. Have you changed your mind, honey?” he steps toward you again then, almost closing the distance in one stride, his hands still shoved in his pockets, but his gaze locked intently on you in a way you haven’t felt since that second date. Your heart beats so loudly you’re sure he must be able to hear, but he doesn’t mention it, just waits for you, crowding your space again.
“Oh, I– No… not… I didn’t… I’m sorry…”
The moment you speak Jake is stepping back, pulling his hands from his pockets to hold them up, his expression losing the intensity again.
“No need to apologise, my mistake.” Jake’s words are sincere, but he looks away from you.
You let out a little sigh.
“It’s just so soon, and with the trial–”
“–You don’t have to explain yourself, honey,” Jake pulls his hands from his pockets at last and places them at your waist, drawing you in. You fall quiet as he lowers his face to yours, though he teases you again by not kissing you, simply looking you over, and then smirking when you pout. “You want it when you want it, and that’s when I want it, okay?”
He makes you nod, before he at last lowers his lips to meet yours and kisses you, slow and sweet. You finally get the chance to test the waters a little, easing your hand carefully underneath the back of his shirt, making you giggle against his mouth when he jumps slightly at the feel of your skin on his. Jake doesn’t say or do anything about it though, thankfully just letting you explore a little as he tips your head back further to deepen your kiss, and you brush your fingers up his spine.
After a short while of this, he must feel the urge to tease you again, because with little to no hesitation at all, unlike you, he slips his hands beneath your shirt, his warm palms gripping onto the bare skin just above your PJ shorts, almost making you moan. You’re glad you’re able to hold back the sound, mostly, but your own surprise doesn’t go unnoticed by the blond currently kissing you.
He only continues doing so for a short minute longer, before he’s eventually pulling back, lips pink and kiss swollen. You can’t help but frown at the parting. He squeezes your waist, and nudges your nose with his own.
“What do you want to do, honey?”
You groan at the apparent lack of making out in your future, not because you don’t think he’d agree, but mostly because you’re not quite ready to ask him for more, though a part of you senses he’s not willing to let you off the hook for those chores you’d told him about earlier.
“I need to fold this laundry,” you point past him, to your walk-in wardrobe and the basket that lies within. Jake looks over at it and lifts an eyebrow, which you choose to ignore. He nods then, and takes a step away from you, making you frown even more when his hands fall from your body.
“I’ll help,” he says, making your eyes widen, and you quickly step around him to block his path, where he is clearly about to make for your basket.
“No! Um… It’s okay, It’ll be easier if I just do it…” you trail off, wondering if you sound insane and neurotic, but Jake simply raises his hands again and nods.
“Well, what do you want me to do?” he prods, and you realise, he’s come inside thinking you want him to help with your chores.
“I was thinking… I was thinking it might just be nice for you to just… be here?” You cringe, and narrowly avoid making a face at yourself. Jake blinks at you as if he doesn’t understand.
“You want me to… sit around while you do laundry?” he asks, tone confused, but equally unimpressed. You nod. Jake shifts, then clicks his tongue. “I was not raised to let somebody work while I sit and watch, especially not my girl. My mother would tan my hide.”
You’re a little surprised by the seriousness on his face, despite the humorous inflection in his voice. You suck in a breath, mulling over how to explain to him what you had been thinking when he came inside. Jake’s eyes flicker over you for a moment before he shifts again, crossing his arms and lifting his chin at you.
“Alright sweetheart, just say what you gotta say, I can hear those cogs turning from here…”
“I… I like that you want to help me, I think that’s really sweet…”
“But…?” Jake prompts.
“I find this kinda thing hard, and I was hoping we could just try and do something… domestic…? Together?” your face goes hot at your admission, and when Jake doesn’t immediately respond you wonder if using the word ‘domestic’ was too much, too soon.
“What is ‘this kind of thing’? I get the other part honey,” again, his voice is playful, but you see the seriousness behind his eyes and it lends you even more comfort. How is he so good at this? It’s almost like he’d read your teenage diary entry all about your perfect guy… it's the sort of attention, care, and behaviour that you’ve never actually gotten from a guy you were seeing before, so you aren’t really sure how to compose yourself.
“This kind of thing,” you gesture between you and him, before clearing your throat. “I don't know what to call it– us, but–”
“–a relationship.” Jake cuts in firmly, and you pause, heart thumping. You hadn't actually had this discussion yet, but you guess you’re having it now.
“Right. I mean, I’ve been in relationships before, but they’ve never really worked out and I feel like I never get to the point with boyfriends where I feel fully comfortable, so I–” you clamp your mouth shut, both at the use of ‘boyfriend’, and at the fact you were rambling, and you’re pretty sure it's too early to start telling him about how all your prior relationships failed.
“Right. So, let me get this straight; you were going to come back in here and put your laundry away, regardless of me being here?” Jake holds up a hand as he repeats back the information.
“Yeah…”
“And you just want me to keep you company?”
You nod, and clear your throat.
“Yeah.”
Jake stares at you, a level of understanding crossing his face, before his eyes flick to your laundry behind you, then back to your face.
“... And you’re sure I can’t help you?” His resolve sounds weak, and you think he’s already made up his mind to do as you asked, but his upbringing requires him to triple check. You smile, and this time step toward him, gingerly resting your hand on his arm, which he immediately raises, and flips, sliding it so now you’re holding his hand.
Again, you can’t fathom how he got so good at this sort of thing. Your knees go wobbly.
“I have a bunch of lacy unmentionables in there, so…” you try to lighten things, but it's not a lie. Jake picks up what you’re putting down, and gives your hand a squeeze. He tips his chin at you and lifts an eyebrow.
“Now why’d you have to go and say that honey? You sure you’re certain I can’t help?” his hands slip from yours to rest at your hips again, completely bypassing your top this time and your heart stutters.
You bite your lip, and nod your head, trying not to laugh him off fully, because while that may be your instinctual nervous reaction, you didn’t want to discourage him entirely. You liked that Jake acted as if you were a pretty girl, like you were desirable, and not like the awkward dork you actually were. You didn't want him to stop doing that.
His expression turns a little softer, and he leans down, moving slowly as to give you time to process, and he presses his lips to your cheek, lingering for just a moment before he taps your sides with his fingers, then steps away.
You’re still catching your breath when he looks back at you, pointing at what looks like one corner of your bed.
“Can I?”
You nod, and gesture at the whole mattress.
“Make yourself comfortable!”
You can feel the pounding music of the club in your whole body. The lights flashing and dancing in different colourways in time with the music give everything around you an ever changing aura, and maybe it’s all the drinks you’ve had tonight, but in front of you, Natasha seems to glow.
Her hands grasp your forearm firmly and you giggle, uncharacteristically carefree as you almost slip again.
“Alright! Okay, let's get you seated!” she says. She’s had a few too, but not nearly as many as you, and you’re glad for it now as she steers you toward the bar and grabs a paper cup to fill with water from the nearby water station toward the end. You find yourself drinking it without prompting, but miss the taste of the fruity cocktails you’d been downing all night. “I’ll call us a cab,” she says, beginning to pull out her phone, but you hastily stop her, placing a hand on her arm and shaking your head rapidly, making the colours spin even more.
“No! My boyfriend said he’d pick us up!” you insist, ignoring the way her eyebrows shoot up, then stitch together.
“You boyfriend?” she asks, but you miss the real question behind her words, instead you simply nod, and begin to fumble around in your own purse until you find your phone. Nat watches you expectantly as you open your messages, quickly tapping ‘call' on the top icon, and pressing the phone to one ear, and your finger to the other.
It rings less than once before it connects.
“Heeyy!” you sigh in relief down the line, happy to even just hear his voice after all night going without. “Yeah, no, everything’s alright, you just said to call you when we were done!” you say in reply to his amused questioning. You look up at Nat briefly, and if you were more sober, you might’ve been able to tell that she was leaning in slightly to try and hear the voice on the other end, but you aren’t, so you don’t.
“Okay, I’ll meet you out front!” you tell him excitedly, before adding on; “Is it okay if we give Nat a ride home too?” there's a short reply, and at last you’re smiling wide and nodding, even though he can’t see you. “Okay, we’ll see you soooon!”
You hang up and stare back up at Natasha, who's giving you a funny look that you ignore. “He said he’ll be here in ten, he’s been at the sports bar in town waiting!” you tell her dreamily, like she might understand what it means to you that Jake would choose to remain only a short distance away in case you needed anything, in the knowledge that you didn’t always enjoy nights out like this.
Nat simply nods and after making you drink one more glass of water, you begin making your way through the crowds and out of the club.
The air outside is warm, but refreshing and you take in as much of it as you can, not realising how stuffy the air inside the club had been until now. It was getting late, and bars and restaurants around the club are lit up and busy, the streets all around full of people either on their way to their destination, or lingering as they talk.
It doesn’t take long for you to spot Jake’s car and he pulls up close to the curb, allowing you to beeline for the passengers side door, not realising that Natasha follows with more confusion and trepidation. Jake jumps out of the car to greet you, rounding it to quickly steady your wobbly walk with a hand on your hip, and with the other, he pulls open the car door and helps you inside, leaning in to help you buckle in, grinning even as he murmurs quietly.
“You had a good night, sweetheart?” he asks, clicking your seatbelt into place for you, making you giggle at him. You lean forward for a kiss, but he dodges you, somewhat more aware than you are of your present company, and instead rests his hand so he can squeeze your knee. Your good mood isn’t spoiled and you barely notice the dodged kiss, so you simply nod your assent to his question vehemently.
“I had a lot to drink!” you tell him, before bursting out into giggles again, the soft, sweet smile Jake gives you going unnoticed as he squeezes your leg again.
“Yes you did,” he says with clear, fond amusement, and at last moves back so he can shut your door.
Unlike you, on the other hand, Natasha may as well be sober as a judge, and she eyes Jake somewhat distrustfully as she steps closer, lifting her chin up at him as she talks.
“What’re you doing here?” she asks accusingly, making Jake cock his head at her, only half as annoyingly as he can. He gestures back at you in the front seat of his car.
“Miri called, sounded pretty hammered,” he tells her as if that explained it. Natasha narrows her eyes and crosses her arms.
“Yeah, but she said she was calling her boyfriend, what’re you doing here?” She dares him to reply with anything but the truth, however luckily for Jake, unlike most men caught in her crossfire, he’s able to brush her off with an infuriating grin.
“I guess she dialled the wrong number, do you want a lift home or not?”
At his ultimatum (however hollow it really is, he wouldn’t leave her on her own in the middle of the night), Natasha frowns darker at him, but accepts the door he opens, waiting for her to get settled before he closes it behind her and returns to the driver's side.
When Jake checks his rearview he notes in amusement that Nat has situated herself in the middle seat, giving herself a perfect view of the two of you in the front. You don’t, nor do you seem to have any weariness in the bloodhound you’ve just set upon the both of you, but if he’s honest, Jake had known from day one that the second Natasha Trace suspected anything, your little secret was over.
He drives back as normally as he can, but it's strange to him now to have you sitting right there in his passenger's seat, and not have his hand in yours, or on your thigh. It’s strange to him to be in this space where the two of you are usually so open with your affection, and have to suppress it. Jake does not like it.
The car ride home is quiet, you seem content to look out the window, the tiredness hitting you now, but every so often he and Nat make small talk about whatever football scores interested them in the past week or two, and before too long, he’s pulling up outside her home.
Looking over at you to find that you’re slumped over asleep on his window, Jake follows Natasha out of the car with a simple offer of making sure she gets in alright. The congeniality doesn’t last very long, and once they’re standing on her porch she turns to him with a frown.
“You don’t really think I’m that stupid, do you?” she asks, for once not sounding angry or scolding, but seemingly subdued, maybe even a little upset. Jake sighs and runs a hand through his hair. Looking back to his car to make sure you’re still alright, he levels his squadmate with a serious expression.
“No, I do not,” he tells her sincerely. “But it’s Miri’s choice to not want to be public yet, all I’m asking is that you respect that,” he goes on after a moment. He doesn’t really believe she would say anything, but he feels the need to get her agreement, if only for your peace of mind in the morning.
Nat hums to herself and briefly looks away to fish out her keys. Once she has them in hand, she looks up at him again, a little grin on her face this time.
“How long?” she asks. Jake rolls his eyes and can’t resist the urge to mess with her just a little.
“Few years,” he states matter of factly, waiting for her eyes to pop wide before he lets out a victorious laugh and shakes his head. “A month or two,” he admits truthfully, accepting the hard sock in the arm as Nat scoffs at him and moves to unlock her front door.
“Something, something, I’ll kick your ass if you hurt her,” she grumbles as she steps inside, immediately kicking off her shoes. Jake straightens up and gives her a mock salute.
“Yes Ma’am,” he says, chortling to himself as he receives a middle finger for his efforts and the door is closed and locked again.
Jake feels a little lighter on his walk back to his car, and when he climbs in, he leans over to carefully adjust your crooked neck and make sure your belt is still strapped properly. You wake a little, confused at first, and blink up at him in happy wonderment.
“Hey!” you mumble, like it's the first time you’ve seen him tonight. Jake chuckles and leans closer to press a kiss to your forehead.
“Let’s get you home baby.”
You awake the next morning with nowhere near the headache you’re expecting, but with an array of distinct memories that cause a pit to open up in your stomach. The pit then begins to growl as you register the warm, homey smell of food, and with little effort, you force yourself up and into the kitchen, where you immediately attach yourself to Jake’s bare back.
His skin is warm and feels so comfy against your cheek, and the soft little laugh he gives makes your belly flop around. He lets you stay like that for a few moments more, moving slowly but smoothly so you can move with him, and at last when whatever he’s doing with his hands is finished, he reaches around for you and rests his hands where he can.
“Did I really call you last night? While with Nat?” you squeeze your eyes shut, hoping you’d just imagined it all, but another soft chuckle lets you know you hadn’t.
“Never thought you’d be the one to let our little secret slip first. I underestimated you baby.”
You groan into his back, and try to hide your face, but before you can complain or dodge him, Jake has turned himself around, letting you instead smoosh your face in between his gloriously golden pecs, and you think things may not be so bad.
He wraps his arms around you properly, and for a moment you just stay like that. You wonder if you can convince him to come around shirtless more often, the warmth radiating off his skin feeling heavenly, not to mention he looked almost as delicious as the food he’d made. You wonder if he’d already worked out this morning, or if you can join him after breakfast.
One of Jake’s hands moves away from your back and cups the back of your head tenderly, making you mewl slightly, and you look up at him to give the attention you know he’s asking for. Jake stares down at you with a soft little grin, and readjusts himself slightly, so he’s able to drop his lips to meet yours briefly.
One kiss becomes two kisses, becoming three kisses and after that any semblance of chastity is given up on and he kisses you full and sweet, deliberately slow like he’s teasing you to ask for more, but for now you’re simply content to wash away all of last nights worries like this.
Coming up for air, Jake barely breaks apart from you, his lips still brushing yours when he speaks.
“I asked Nat not to say anything, she respects you enough to do that I think,” he says, dropping a few more soft kisses to your mouth when you crane your neck up for more. He goes no further this time, though, and leans back from you to gauge your reaction after several moments, and you force yourself to open your eyes and pout.
“It’s not that I think she’ll tell anyone…” you say to him, scrunching up your features as you recall your lack of playing it cool the first time she had brought Jake up to you. The memory makes you grumble to yourself, and you once more attempt to hide your face in his chest. Jake laughs, and makes you jump when he pokes your side.
“What is it?” he asks, like he already knows. You tell him, voice muffled in his skin, but clear enough for the details of your embarrassing inability to throw the scent off to be heard. Jake’s body shakes with more laughter as you relay the information, but instead of trying to make you stop hiding away, he simply cups the back of your head again, and holds it nearer, allowing you to wither your embarrassment away in the safety of him.
“I think we both know that the minute that woman suspected anything, it was game over,” he tells you once you’re done, still holding you close, but you feel his lips press to the top of your head sweetly, and you do your best to snuggle yourself closer.
After the bulk of your mortification has eased away, Jake makes you detach from him, but only so the two of you can eat your breakfast while it’s still hot.
“You know I don’t want to keep it quiet, like, forever, right?” you ask out of nowhere, your memories of last night replaying over in your head while you ate. Jake looks up at you and cocks his head.
“I’m happy to do whatever you’d like to do, for as long as you’d like to do it,” he says matter of factly, but despite the sweetness of his words, you can’t help but frown at him.
“No you’re not, and we both know it,” you push back, grateful for his always tender manner of going at your pace, but you’d likely never have been with him in the first place if he hadn’t thrown you out of your comfort zone that first time.
The only difference is, now you are with Jake, and you understood these things about yourself, and how they weren’t always as scary as your mind might make them seem. Jake frowns back at you, clearly ready to protest.
“I know you pretty well too, you know,” you cut him off. “I know you like PDA, and that you wish you were able to be more open when we’re out with people. I know you like to show off, and part of that includes me,” you tell him adamantly, because you know you’re right.
Jake huffs out a sigh and leans back in his chair, looking at you dead on, you know him well enough to know he’s a little annoyed at you calling him out, but you aren’t doing it to annoy him or just for the sake of starting an argument.
“Okay, so what if I do? That doesn’t change the fact that until you want something, I’m not gonna go for it,” he says, still frowning at you like he doesn’t understand what the point of talking this through is even about.
You change tack and, with your heart beat thumping a little wildly, get up from your seat and move toward him. Even in his annoyance, Jake makes room for you, pushes out his chair and wraps his arms around your waist when you seat yourself on his thigh, your own arms linking around his neck.
“Well maybe I’m giving you permission to go for it,” you say softly, quietly, because the idea still does make you incredibly nervous. But you like Jake, no scratch that, you think you’re in love with Jake, and you think he’s in love with you too, and something about that feeling for once in your life makes you want the same things he does too, including the PDA. You want him to sling his arm around your neck, you want to be able to kiss his cheek or hold his hand or whatever it is you two want to do, not just in the comfort of your own homes, but out at the Hard Deck with your friends, too.
Jake blinks up at you, like at first your words don’t even register, but then he’s tightening his hold around your waist, and grinning wolfishly up at you, all cocky and infuriating if you didn’t find it utterly charming. If you didn’t completely adore him, even this part.
“Permission granted, Lieutenant?” he asks mischievously, and you can’t stop yourself from giggling, like you’re drunk all over again.
“Permission granted, Lieutenant!”

“you wish you never ever met her at all.”
summary: bonnie sutton dated carlos sainz for four years and was in the spotlight (thanks to his status as a formula one driver) for two years until a scandal erupted — making her hide away from the social media for two years. too many people think that she’s bound to ruin his career with her return, but all she wanted was to put her unwanted fame to use and show off the man who saw her worth as something more.
content warning: age gap, infidelity (nothing personal/irl), use of explicit language, haters gonna hate, rumours/news, fairly short i think
note: nando fuckers, unite 🤭 yesterday i posted an ex!nando x ofc so here’s some new nando x ofc content lol (ft. ex!carlos) enjoy xx

Bullfrog and Rayman/Ramon x g/n reader : taking a bullet for them
I’ve had this little idea for a while now , so I decided to finally sit and write it down !
You see , while I’m the biggest fan of anything regarding fluff I do enjoy a bit of angst sometimes too , so I ended up getting a rush of inspiration imagining the reader protecting the boys with them getting all worried afterwards :,I
I’ll definitely start working on the requests I received as soon as I can by the way , I just like to post some personal works whenever I get inspired … also because I literally can’t stop it when that happens :,)
Anyway , hope this turned out okay !
Details : use of gender neutral reader ;
established relationships ;
presence of blood , bullet wounds , occasional swearing and general angst with following fluff
Tumblr media
Bullfrog 💚
As soon as he turns around and sees you drop on your knees , clutching the bleeding wound with a hiss of pain , Bullfrog immediately drops everything he’s doing and rushes towards you , ignoring the bullets flying in his direction :
he has to get you out of there … he has to do it fast … nothing else matters …
His small but strong arms pick you and he carries you away from the raging battlefield , the sensation of your blood dripping on his hands filling him with fear …
No matter what the Warden will have to say about this setback , the safety of his beloved is top priority .
When he finally puts you down after reaching a safe spot , Bullfrog can feel the crushing weight of his guilt taking over his every thought , enough to almost make him dizzy …
He knows full well that that bullet was meant for him .
He should’ve noticed it sooner … why didn’t he notice it sooner ?
Maybe then you wouldn’t have jumped forward to shield him …
This … this was all his fault .
The sound of you coughing out blood is what makes Bullfrog snap back to reality .
< B … Bullfrog … ? >
< Yes y/n , I’m here , I’m right here mon amour , you’re going to be okay , I promise … you just have to stay awake . >
His voice sounds so soothing and sweet ( tough a bit raspy after his crazy escape ) , and while he begins to take off your coat to get a better look at the wound you can’t help but smile a little in front of his sheer devotion to you …
His movements are gentle but quick , and before you can even process what’s happening Bullfrog has already patched you up to prevent you from losing any more blood …
It’s now that the situation is under control that he brings it up .
< You really shouldn’t have done that , y/n . If the bullet hit you someplace else with some more precision you could’ve died . >
You look down at the floor of the alleyway you’re both currently hiding in , feeling his worried eyes on you .
< I … I’m sorry . I didn’t really think it through …
I panicked : you were in danger and I didn’t want you to get hurt , I just … didn’t know what else to do … >
Bullfrog’s gaze softens , and before you know it you feel his arms around you , holding you carefully to avoid hurting you more …
< I know , mon cher … you’re always looking out for me , and I love you so much for that reason alone , but please don’t ever do something like that ever again :
je … je ne peux pas te perdre . >
You gladly lean into his loving embrace , hugging him back as the pain brought by the wound in your waist disappears momentarily :
you were just thankful to have Bullfrog by your side , and thankful for his endless love and care for you .
Tumblr media
Rayman 🧡
It takes some time for Rayman to realize that an unidentified man just tried to shoot him while the two of you were walking back home after that night’s date , and it’s when he hears your sharp breaths and sees your blood staining his shoes that he fully takes in what happened …
< Y/N !!! >
He rushes towards you , panic taking over him as his shaky hands get a hold of you :
you’re hurt … you’re hurt really bad , and it’s all because you protected him .
< Oh - oh g-god - ohmygod —
I can’t … I gotta - H-HELP !!! >
It doesn’t take long for someone to notice what is going on , and before you know it you can hear the deafening noise coming from the sirens of the ambulance and the many police cars all around the street , as well as a familiar voice …
< Are they going to be okay ?? W-will they live ???
Please , they have to live … they have to … >
Unfortunately you can’t bring yourself to listen further : soon the loss of blood makes you pass out , your blurry vision slowly fading to black as the last thing you feel is someone picking you up from the ground .
Rayman really isn’t handling what happened very well , and the days following the incident are absolutely awful for him …
He ends up drinking a lot more , unable to eat and let alone sleep , and whenever he receives the inevitable calls from the Board of Directors “inviting” him to pull himself together for his show’s sake , he completely loses it …
< Don’t you understand ?? My . Partner . Got . FUCKING SHOT !!!
I might never s-see them again , and you want me to “keep it together” ?!? >
Whenever he stays up at night , waiting for any sorts of news about your condition from the hospital , Rayman can do nothing but silently pray that you’re going to be fine … that he will be able to hold you and kiss you again , and that it’s not all lost …
… but deep down he really isn’t sure if that’s what’s going to happen , and that terrifies him more than anything .
Then finally , one morning he receives the awaited news :
you’re alive , you’re feeling a lot better and , most importantly , you’re actually on your way to his lounge ( the last part being a little something you planned to surprise him ) .
Rayman is overjoyed , and when he hears a knock on the door and sees your beautiful smile waiting for him behind it he can’t contain himself anymore …
< Oh y/n … y/n my love … I-I’m so glad you’re okay , I missed you so much ! >
He hugs you tightly , sobbing next to your ear , and inevitably you end up crying too …
< I’m here Ray … I’m right here , I’m never leaving you again , I promise … >
You let out a sigh when Rayman’s lips meet yours , locking them in a loving , passionate kiss …
The two of you really needed it , after everything that’s happened .
Tumblr media
Ramon 🖤
Oh boy is he enraged …
After a moment of silent shock , he glares at that one member of the Board of Directors security that had the guts to harm his darling …
< You … PIECE OF SHIT !!! >
Without any regards at all for his safety he rushes towards the man , shooting at him multiple times … even after his dead body has long since hit the floor .
It takes him a while to calm down , but after taking a few deep , shaky breath , Ramon finally rushes towards you , using his coat to stop the bullet wound from bleeding .
< Hiss - >
< I know it hurts … but you’re gonna be okay love , just … just bear with me , okay … ? I got you … >
You nod in response , a little smile appearing on your face as he leans down to kiss your forehead .
After a few minutes , you start to feel less dizzy than before , and similarly to Bullfrog it’s only then that Ramon confronts you about what happened .
< Now … we really gotta talk about this , y/n , cause I am not about to lose the only person that gives me hope in this hell because they decide to shield me from a bullet without any regard for themselves and their safety . >
< I … *cough* … I had to though , it would’ve hit y - >
You can feel Ramon’s hands on your shoulders , and when you look up at him you can see a very serious expression on his face …
< y/n . I mean it .
I need you to look at me and promise to never take a bullet for me again .
I … I wouldn’t be able to go on if you were gone … do you understand … ? >
Your quietly listen to him , your eyes never leaving his , and when you lean forward to give him a little kiss on the nose you hear him sigh softly …
< I won’t … I promise .
I love you , Ram … sorry for making you worry . >
Ramon smiles in response , holding you closer to him while the sun sets behind the window , illuminating the two of you and the corpses of the Board of Directors around the room …
< I love you too , y/n … very , very much . >

flirty enemies to lovers prompts
first post?? ahhh
part 2: here
cw: suggestive, cursing (?)
• first, the classic: heated arguments turning into make out sessions
• in addition^ A and B making out while just randomly insulting each other like “i hate you so much” “you’re the worst person on the face of this earth” “you suck” “you suck more” “literally want to kill you” “already planning your murder” in between kisses
• “you’re lucky you’re cute otherwise you would be six feet under right now” “you think i’m cute”
• “so you know how i’m like-“ “absolutely embarrassingly in love with me? yes i’m familiar go on” “can you take anything seriously?”
• A and B keep trying to hide that they’re dating and then they just get caught and no one is surprised in fact even their superiors are like “yeah…? we knew already what’s new”
• character A saying something flirty leaving B just a blushing mess and then waking away and B screams “asshole” and A responds “you love it” while walking away
• A’s roommate: “two weeks ago you gave me an entire monologue about how you hated B and now they’re in sleeping in your bed?? what the fuck is going on”
- honestly just so much stuff with roommates like.
• B’s roommate entering their washroom (while B is in the shower) and yelling over the water “HEY B DO YOU KNOW WHERE MY SHAMPOO IS I CAN’T FIND IT ANYWHERE” “name..” “BECAUSE LIKE I THOUGHT IT WAS HERE BUT I CANT-“ “name im not exactly alone in here…” “huh wha-“ and A popping through the shower curtain with the biggest smile “hey name” “oh OH HI UH i’ll just.. *knocks multiple things over* leave you two.. alone” *knocks more things over* “also i think your shampoo is over there” “ um thanks A um i’ll just-*awkward finger guns*”
• “have you finally realised just how irresistible i am” “oh shut up” and then proceeds to definitely agree
•“do you actually hate me i know we’ve had our differences and stuff but like-“ “name. i’ve never actually hated you”
• “just to be clear- this is a one time thing” “totally agreed. after that we can just forget it ever happened” “yeah..exactly”
feel free to use <3

What do you know- I'm trying out the askbox *eyes*
anyway I just wanted to say that high-key I think I'd follow any content you make at this point bc your art brings me so much joy. That doesn't tend to happen super often since i am,,,, very much so a hyperfixation-focused person HAHA
regardless I'm not exactly quiet about it but I adore your art and I look forward to each new time you post :D
I WISH i had the capability of pumping out art like you do bc man while I love to draw and have so many ideas all the time picking up the pencil is Hard Dude.
Also! In a recent post you mentioned the whole Twin Dragons AU and HC that people love to have- I'd be super curious as to your opinion on it!
-( ╹▽╹ )
I SEE YOUR TAGS AND IM.
Tumblr media
I’ll have to slow down at some point on that Submas Grind, but the hyperfixation throes are REAL. Thank you for inhabiting the tunnels with me! People that tag and cheer artists on are the real mvps of the art economy.
As for twin dragon aus!
I’ve always seen Emmet as more zekrom esque, and Ingo more reshiram esque. Is it cause the typing matches their starters? Maybe, hehe.
Ultimately though, the guys are too multifaceted for me to easily split them into truth and ideals.
I also see the legendaries as Eldritch Abominations Beyond Understanding, so having the dragons in my iteration become the twins would, uh, have consequences. The funny goofy story would dip into horror territory instead. (Reshiram demands only truths, and anything not Absolute will burn. And zekrom’s ideals are beyond human understanding, and trying to understand the mad tangle of thunder would drive somebody insane.)
(I’m a huge tma fan. Can you see it? Man.)
((Also N’s a scary mofo for summoning reshiram. I’m digging directly into the whole “twin heroes have a civil war and it destroyed unova” backstory that pokemon set up, and the more I think about it the stronger my dread mounts at the idea of Zekrom OR Reshiram casually flying overhead.
But this is also just how I see the legendaries of the pokemon world! Lugia sinks islands. Groudon covers towns. Arceus loves the mortal world, and mourns because its immortality only brings grief. Giritina hates, because it’s the ghostly remains of every one of Arceus’s mistakes given drive, banished into the distortion realm. Normal stuff!)
You sly dog, you got me monologing! But here’s the tldr: Not sure i’ll ever make my own serious Dragon AU that follows my internal world building for pokemon. I’m too attached to my favorite trope: “the smallest people can still initiate the biggest of changes”, and I’m too attached to my other favorite trope: “legendaries are actually gods and you Should Be Frightened.”
So that’s why, in this essay, if the trio gets turned into pokemon, I’d make them route 1 run of the mill rats. Because rats can do whatever they want.
(Plus, patrats and pachirisu aren’t banned from the subway battles last I checked.)
If i had to make a goofy crack dragon au though, I think this would be the result:
Tumblr media
The whole story would just be the trio and historians trying to figure out what the hell the twins got turned into, and concerns of other people becoming pokemon as well. So far, people are convinced they’re a paradox version of an archen. (I mean…)
(Alternate take of THAT, where elesa gets turned into a victini.)

Drift Away | k.m.g
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary: You made the biggest mistake of your life, and now, Mingyu is trying his hardest to forget and forgive you, but how long till your infidelity rips you both apart? Besides, it’s not like you’d blame him. You hurt him. You did the one thing you promised never to do.
☆ 18+ minors dni |☀︎fluff | ☁︎ angst | ♕ smut |  ♥ completed works
Word Count: 9321 words
Pairings: Kim Mingyu x Female Reader
Genre/Trope(s)/AUs: Fluff, Smut & Angst, Idol! AU, but like it’s not that important. It just sets the tone, I guess? Like why he stays in a dorm, etc.
Content Warnings: Cheating AU! slut shaming, blaming, crying, fighting. Soonyoung is kind of a dick, but it’s truly very warranted. Chan makes lame jokes, and it’s adorable. Cheol is the best human ever. Insecurities about wealth and fame gap between the reader and Gyu. Mingyu is honestly the bestest boy ever, and the reader makes a terrible choice, but let’s see.
Smut Warnings: Unprotected sex, oral (f receiving), fingering, pussy slapping (like once). Is Mingyu growling a warning? Creampie. I think that’s it.
Authors Note: This fic involves infidelity, I don’t condone it, but I’m aware it’s different for everyone, just know that this is a work of fiction, and you should never feel like you should accept anything, but the best for you 🥺 High key broke my own heart writing this.
Authors Note 2: Thank you so much to @spacequokka for beta'ing this angsty mess for me. I love you dearly for this! 💕 also, thank you so much to my fellow emotional mess baby @the-boy-meets-evil for helping me edit. Finally, a big thank you to my lovely SVTHub friends for reading this over thank you lovelies, @multi-kpop-fanfics, @bitchlessdino and thank you @onlymingyus for the title 💕
Authors Note 3: Also if you’ve seen this fic before, it’s because it was something I’d published once for a different group, but I wanted to revisit and rework it 🩷

“So, I thought we could go on a road trip, just you and I. I know things haven’t been great, but I thought this could help us reconnect,” you suggested to Mingyu during dinner, and you could see him roll his eyes at you.
“I’m trying to make an effort here,” you mumbled, making Mingyu glare at you.
“Because that’ll make everything you did okay?” Mingyu asked, and you looked down in shame.
“Gyu, it was a mistake,” you defended weakly, sliding your hand over to hold his, making him flinch and move his hand away from you.
“You fucked someone else. I asked you if I was enough, and I wasn’t, so you left to find someone else,” Mingyu snarled, and you sighed.
“You were always gone for months on end–” you started to say, and Mingyu glared at you.
“Do not give me that shit, don’t you fucking dare. Do you realise I could have done the same thing? I know it’s not ideal to have me as your boyfriend, but I could have cheated on you, but I didn’t because I love you,” Mingyu’s voice cracked at the word love.
“I’m sorry,” you apologised.
“‘Sorry’ won’t change any of it,” Mingyu muttered.
“Then why are you still here?” You asked. There was no anger in your voice, just genuine and pure confusion. “Why stay?”
“Because…” Mingyu started to say, pausing to wipe a tear off his face.
“Because I still fucking love you, like a moron. I want to believe that we can move past this,” Mingyu admitted.
Your heart broke at the sight, and you got up from your seat, walked over to Mingyu and motioned to his lap, and Mingyu nodded slowly. You slid into his lap and wrapped your arms around his neck.
“I’ll do anything. I promise I won’t hurt you again,” you promised, and Mingyu simply stared at you as you held his face in your hands.
“Y/N,” Mingyu stopped you as you moved to kiss him.
“I can’t, not yet, at least,” Mingyu admitted, and you nodded quickly, sliding off his lap.
“Look, I’ll be in the bedroom. I’ve lost my appetite.” Mingyu said, sliding out of his seat and heading upstairs. You felt tears run down your face, and you hated that you were the one crying when you did this.
You wiped your tears away, cleaned up the table, and headed to the bedroom, smiling softly when you noticed Mingyu sitting on the bed, running a towel through his freshly washed hair.
“Can I help you?” Mingyu asked, snapping you out of your daydream.
“Uh, I can take the couch,” you mumbled. “No. You can take the guest room, not the fucking couch. You don’t need to punish yourself. It won’t give me any comfort,” Mingyu spat, “and,” he added, voice softer. “I said we shouldn’t sleep separately because we will get comfortable like that, and then this will be over,” Mingyu added.
“I’m giving you space,” you mumbled. It made Mingyu sigh, drop the towel on the bed and walk over to you.
“You had space when I went on tour, and you fucked someone else, so no. I don’t think space is what we need,” Mingyu explained, and you looked down, unable to look him in the eyes.
“I don’t want to hurt you,” you said dumbly, knowing that you already had hurt him, which made  Mingyu glare at you.
“You broke me. There’s nothing else left to break. However, for some ridiculous reason, I still fucking love you, and I’m trying not to get mad because, despite the fact you slept with someone else, I still want you in my life,” Mingyu said, gritting his teeth.
You stayed still, unsure what to say, unable to look him in the eyes. Mingyu just huffed out in annoyance at your silence.
“I’m going to bed. You do what you want. That’s what you seem to be good at anyway,” Mingyu scoffed as he moved away from you and moved to lie down on the bed and sleep.
Tumblr media
You hopped into the shower once Mingyu started snoring softly, and you prayed that the running water would drown out your sobs. You had done the worst thing possible to the kindest person ever and had the nerve to cry.
You finished quickly and found Mingyu’s shirt hanging on the door and, out of habit, slipped it on once you dried yourself.
Once you exited the shower, you found your spot on the bed next to him, and out of habit again, Mingyu sleepily wrapped his arm around your waist and pulled you into his chest.
You heard his soft snores and allowed yourself to fall asleep in his embrace, and just for a minute, imagine that your relationship was fine. Even then, peace was elusive as your mind replayed the day you told Mingyu that you cheated and how broken and devastated he looked.
Tumblr media
“Mingyu, sit,” you said, your voice low and emotionless. Mingyu looked concerned but did as you asked and sat down next to you.
“Wait, are you breaking up with me the day after I got back from tour? Because ouch,” Mingyu joked, and you shook your head.
“No, but you might.”
Mingyu’s smile vanished when he noticed the lack of humour in your voice.
“What happened? Are you pregnant? Because if so, we can deal with it,” Mingyu offered, and you simply shook your head, your heart aching at how kind and considerate he was.
“You weren’t here for so long. It was the night after we got into a fight, and it was so fucking stupid–”
Mingyu felt his world fall apart as the words left your mouth. “You didn’t because you said you love me,” Mingyu interrupted, refusing to believe a word, and you looked up at him, eyes red and puffy.
“Was it once?” Mingyu asked, and you nodded.
“It was so fucking stupid,” you choked out, and Mingyu pressed his lips together.
“You know, of all the people in the world, I didn’t think you’d be the one to make me feel like this,” Mingyu choked out, his voice cracking. You tried to reach out and touch his hand, and Mingyu flinched.
“Don’t you fucking dare! When and where?” Mingyu yelled, and you shrank.
“Does it matter?” You asked, and Mingyu glared at you.
“It fucking matters,” he snapped. You nodded.
“His place. I left after it happened. I just felt so guilty,” you explained, your voice cracked with each word. Mingyu nodded.
“Well, you should. I’m glad you had the decency not to defile our bed,” Mingyu spat as he grabbed his bag, stood up, and took a deep breath before speaking again.
“I thought tonight I could make up for all the time I spend away from you. I would have held, touched, and kissed you all night. I would have spent all the time I had making it right, but you decided I wasn’t worth the wait,” Mingyu admitted with a broken sob, a sad smile gracing his handsome face.
“I was lonely,” you admitted weakly, needing to defend yourself. Mingyu scoffed at you.
“You don’t think I get lonely? I fucking do, but I didn’t once cheat because I love you and respect you. Sadly, you can’t say the same,” Mingyu stated.
“Mingyu, I love you. It was a mistake, a stupid fucking mistake. Please, just one more chance. I need you to know how sorry I am,” you begged, and Mingyu sighed.
“I need space from you. For now, I need to let my anger pass because right now, I can’t bear the sight of you,” Mingyu said, and you just stared at him.
Mingyu sighed deeply and pulled you into his arms as you sobbed into his chest.
“I’m so fucking sorry,” you cried, and Mingyu placed a soft kiss on your forehead.
“I will reach out. Just give me some time,” Mingyu promised, a tight smile on his handsome face. You nodded as you watched him walk out the door, and you fell to the ground sobbing.
Tumblr media
“Y/N, wake up,” Mingyu said, shaking you awake.
“Hey, what’s wrong?” Mingyu asked as he switched on the light and noticed your tear-stained face. You couldn’t bear to look at him, not when he was still concerned about your well-being, not when you had broken his heart.
“Mingyu, I’m so fucking sorry,” you wailed.
“I know.”
You whimpered as the sobs wouldn’t stop. “I just need time,” Mingyu said, and you nodded.
“Why did you stay? Why didn’t you leave me?” you asked, and Mingyu shrugged.
“It takes a lot more effort to stay and make a relationship work than just to get up and leave. Unless that’s why you cheated? Did you want an out?” Mingyu explained, and you shook your head at his question.
“No. I just wanted to feel less lonely,” you explained weakly, and Mingyu sighed.
“I know I still love you. I just can’t trust you yet. I need time to heal,” Mingyu admitted.
“Mingyu?” You said softly, and Mingyu smiled softly back at you, wiped your tears away, and gently placed his lips on yours. It was the first time he had kissed you since the night you told him.
“Give me time,” Mingyu repeated, and you nodded as Mingyu turned off the light and laid back down, and you laid down next to him, feeling him pull you in again. Tighter against him this time, you felt yourself drift off into a dreamless sleep.
Tumblr media
You woke up the following day, found Mingyu fast asleep, and smiled when you saw how handsome and calm he looked. You got out of bed and made your way into the shower and then to the kitchen.
“Morning,” you heard Mingyu as you felt his arms wrap around your waist, his lips gently meeting your neck, making you sigh as you melted against his touch.
“Shit, sorry,” Mingyu cursed, pulling away from you.
“Habit, I guess,” Mingyu mumbled, making you pout, not letting his actions affect you too much.
He had every right to be upset.
“So, um. What are you up to today?” you asked as you handed Mingyu a cup of tea.
“I think Seungcheol hyung is coming by to hand me a present of some sort,” Mingyu replied.
Mingyu bit his lip. He wanted to warn you and tell you that the boys deeply resented you for what you did. At the same time, he wanted to see you feel as horrible as he did, so he kept his mouth shut.
“Oh! I’ll get that,” you offered when you heard a knock on the front door, and Mingyu hesitated, hoping to stop you, but he nodded.
You couldn’t hide from the boys; they had been waiting to chew you out since the day they found out. However, Mingyu was glad it was Seungcheol who was headed over. He could trust his hyung to be diplomatic. He could not expect that of Soonyoung or Chan.
“Y/N,” Seungcheol greeted you. The eyes that once held fondness and love for you were now filled with rage and anger.
“Mingyu, good to see you,” Seungcheol said as he embraced him. You wanted to leave the room, unable to hide your shame.
“Y/N, we don’t usually ever get involved in one another’s business, especially not relationships. However, the way Mingyu cried after what you did, you need to understand that none of us are your biggest fans right now,” Seungcheol spoke, and you could only look at the floor, unable to make eye contact out of embarrassment.
Seungcheol wasn’t one to get involved in his members’ love lives, but he knew Mingyu would sugarcoat everything for you, and he wasn’t going to let you think that the rest of Mingyu’s members were okay with you.
“If Mingyu chooses to forgive you, that’s his right and choice. We’ll support him, but I can speak on behalf of the other members. None of us are keen on you right now,” Seungcheol continued to elaborate.
Seungcheol’s words broke your heart; out of all the members, you had grown very close to him and Soonyoung. You knew Soonyoung would probably kill you if he saw you, but Seungcheol could be reasonable.
“I’m sorry,” you muttered, and Seungcheol scoffed.
“Not the one you need to apologise to,” Seungcheol bit back, and Mingyu knew he had to say something now.
God knows you apologised enough times.
“Hyung, um, what did you get me?” Mingyu asked in an attempt to dissipate the tension. Seungcheol smiled as he faced Mingyu.
“I got you a birthday present,” Seungcheol replied, and Mingyu laughed.
“Seven months in advance?” Mingyu asked.
Seungcheol shrugged. “I forget birthdays, except mine, so yeah, it’s an all-expense paid weekend at a fancy hotel, you know, wine, room service, the whole nine yards.” Seungcheol took a breath.
“I got it before all this happened. It was something for you two,” Seungcheol added, his words piercing your heart again.
“Hyung, we can still use it. If not, I can just use it myself, starfish on the bed,” Mingyu interjected, which made Seungcheol smile.
“Anyways. That’s all I came for. I’ll see you in the evening,” Seungcheol said, and Mingyu nodded and saw Seungcheol out.
“Hyung, she’s trying,” Mingyu pleaded once he was outside his front door as he tried to reason with Seungcheol, who simply sighed.
“I don’t doubt it, but she cheated on you,” Seungcheol said.
“She won’t do it again,” Mingyu asserted.
“I hope she doesn’t,” Seungcheol added, smiling sadly at Mingyu, who smiled back.
“Hyung, I love her, and if I can’t make this work, then I’ll leave, but right now, I want to have faith,” Mingyu spoke genuinely, meaning every word.
“Fair enough. Look, just try and keep her away from the studios and dorms for now. I can keep my cool, and so can the others, but Soonyoung will definitely tear her a new one,” Seungcheol warned.
“Yeah. I will. Thank you for the present again,” Mingyu thanked Seungcheol.
“Take care, Gyu.”
Tumblr media
“Um, I have rehearsals. I won’t be home until eight. Do you think you’ll be okay?” Mingyu asked, and you nodded.
“Yeah. I have a few meetings, and I have some work to do. Did you want to have dinner?” you asked, and Mingyu nodded slowly.
“I can give you a heads up if I am back in time?” Mingyu suggested, and you nodded, smiling sadly at him.
“They’ll come around, you know?” Mingyu added.
“It’s okay if they don’t. I mean, I wouldn’t blame them, ” you responded.
“They will. I mean. I’m trying,” Mingyu explained.
“Mingyu?”
“Yes?”
“How long will you keep trying for? I’m not asking you to dismiss the fact that you are already doing something that most people wouldn’t consider doing. I want to know because I don’t want to keep holding you down from finding the one.”
“You were the one at one point for me,” Mingyu started, and you felt your throat tighten with emotion.
“Maybe you still are. But to answer your question, I guess I will try until I no longer imagine you underneath another man. Last night when I kissed you, I felt like I was being burned. It hurts to physically love you right now, so if it comes to a point where one day I know I can’t look at you and not hate what you did, then yeah, we can move on,” Mingyu admitted.
“And if we can’t?” you asked, your voice small.
“Then we’re done,” Mingyu said, his tone calm and final.
“I need to go; I’ll message you if I am late,” Mingyu said, and you nodded at him.
Tumblr media
“You’re late,” your boss remarked as you walked in, well, ran into the office.
“Sorry,” you said breathlessly. Your boss simply shrugged at you.
“Can I see you? In my office?” He asked before heading back to his office.
You nodded, followed your boss to his office, and waited for him to close the door behind you.
“Please don’t fire me. I can do better,” you begged, your voice cracking.
Your boss shook his head.
“Not here to fire you, but I’m worried,” he explained, and you nodded.
“Relationship problems?” Your boss suggested, and you nodded.
“Do you need to talk to anyone?” Your boss asked kindly, and you shook your head. “It’s my doing,” you explained, and your boss nodded, not pushing it any further.
“Well. I need you to manage this client. You have a natural knack for charming the shit out of fancy clients, so do it well, and we can secure a retainer, and you can secure a wonderful bonus,” your boss explained, and you smiled at him.
“Anything else?” you asked, and your boss shook his head, smiling.
“Thank you so much once again for the meeting. I know it’s late, but we appreciate the effort,” your clients thanked you at the end of the meeting, and you nodded, thanking your million-dollar clients.
You left once they left the conference room and fished out your phone.
“Fuck,” you cursed when you saw it was nine, and you had ten missed calls from Mingyu and several messages. You grabbed your things and tried to drive home as quickly and safely as possible.
Tumblr media
“Mingyu, I’m so sorry. I got caught up in work,” you explained hurriedly the second you walked into the apartment, and Mingyu simply hummed.
“I got hungry. I ate without you,” Mingyu deadpanned.
“Y/N?” Mingyu asked, and you turned around to see Mingyu glaring at you.
“Yes?”
“Where were you?” Mingyu asked as he walked closer to you.
“I was at work. I have a new client, and they wanted to go over so many things,” you explained.
“You sure? Or were you with someone?” Mingyu taunted, and you shook your head at him.
“Mingyu, no, I would never,” you said, and Mingyu scoffed.
“You have,” he bit back.
“Not again,” you said firmly. Mingyu sighed.
“You know, the entire time I was waiting for you. I couldn’t help but think about it. I was wondering if you found someone else. If you were ignoring my phone calls because someone else was making you feel so good that you forgot about me,” Mingyu said.
“I love you, and I know my actions have not matched that, but I would never do what I did again. Ever,” you explained again, and Mingyu sighed.
“I guess I just have to believe you, right?” Mingyu asked with a dark chuckle.
“If you want to go or leave me, then you can,” you offered, and Mingyu shook his head.
“I need to be able to trust you again,” Mingyu explained, and you nodded.
“I was at work. I didn’t meet up with anyone,” you repeated.
“As I said, I don’t have a choice but to believe you,” Mingyu mumbled, and you frowned.
“Look, how about you join me? We can watch Netflix, and you can eat your dinner. I’ll join you for ice cream?” Mingyu suggested, and you smiled, nodding at him.
You rushed up the stairs to take a shower and change into his shirt quickly. You often forgot they weren’t your clothes; you were so used to wearing them.
Tumblr media
Once you were done with your shower, you headed downstairs, grabbed your food, and sat on the couch three spots away from Mingyu, making him smile.
“I won’t bite.”
“I don’t want to make you uncomfortable,” Mingyu nodded.
“Just sit next to me.” You smiled and scooted over next to him.
“So, these new clients, what do they do?” Mingyu asked, making you glare at him.
“Are you interrogating me?” You asked, and Mingyu sighed.
“No. I’m asking you because I’m your boyfriend. I want to know about your day. However, your reaction makes me wonder why you’re so defensive,” Mingyu explained, and you pouted, placing your food on the coffee table in front of you and turning to face him.
“I’m so sorry. I  broke your trust and your heart. I won’t do it again,” you apologised.
“Shouldn’t have ever happened,” Mingyu mumbled, and you stayed quiet, knowing you shouldn’t defend yourself.
“Y/N? Why? I know you said you were lonely, but why?” Mingyu asked.
You took a deep breath as you looked up at him, his eyes watery, and you hated that you were the cause of it.
“You remember when you were on tour, we got into this huge fight because you missed three FaceTime calls with me, and you fell asleep on the one you did remember,” you cringed as you recalled the incident.
Nothing you were going to say would make anything that you did okay.
“Right, yes, so you cheated on me because I was inattentive?” Mingyu asked, not a hint of anger in his words, just pure confusion.
“I mean, after that call, we got into a huge fight, and we didn’t even speak for another two days, and I just felt neglected,” you added.
“So one night, when I saw you giggling on a live later, I got annoyed, went to a bar after work, and well, yeah, you know the rest,” you trailed off.
“Do I know him?” Mingyu asked.
“No, I don’t even know him,” you mumbled.
“So you threw it all away for a perfect stranger?” Mingyu asked.
“Tell me. What did he do to you? What did you do to him?” Mingyu asked, and you shook your head.
“Mingyu, I don’t want to hurt you,” you tried to protest, making Mingyu scoff.
“You already have. Tell me,” Mingyu repeated, and you took a deep breath before responding.
“He went down on me, and he then fucked me,” you said quickly, like you were ripping off a band-aid.
“You didn’t go down on him?” He asked.
“No,” you said, your voice small, and Mingyu nodded.
“Did you at least use a condom?” Mingyu asked, and you nodded.
“Did you feel good? Just for that moment? Did you get what you wanted?” Mingyu asked.
“I guess I got the attention I wanted. However, no. I didn’t feel good about it; I hated myself for it,” you admitted.
“Look. I told you I want to work on us and move on from what happened, so I appreciate your honesty. However, you need to understand why I might be suspicious,” Mingyu explained, and you nodded.
“Actually, I wanted to talk to you about something, but I need liquor, wine?” Mingyu asked, and you smiled, nodding at him. Mingyu smiled at you as he got off the couch, headed into the kitchen, and returned a couple of minutes later with a bottle of red wine and two glasses.
“Here you go,” Mingyu said as he handed you a glass and sat down on the couch, this time sitting closer to you.
“So Seungcheol hyung, he’s throwing a dinner thing next week,” Mingyu explained.
“I can make myself scarce,” you interrupted, and Mingyu smiled softly at you, shaking his head.
“No, he wants you there,” Mingyu said, taking a sip of his drink.
“Why?” you asked, unable to hide the shock in your voice, and Mingyu smiled softly at you,
“Because I want you there,” Mingyu responded, and you downed your glass of wine in response to his comment and placed the glass down before speaking.
“Mingyu, I don’t want to impose. Not in a room full of people who hate me,” you said, hating how weak you sounded when this was all your doing. Mingyu smiled softly at you before taking a sip of his drink.
“No one–okay, aside from Soonyoung–no one hates you,” Mingyu admitted.
“I know I have no right to be upset, not when I did this, but I feel so fucking stupid. I feel stupid for having the audacity to be upset when this is my doing,” you confessed, feeling pathetic for being upset. However, Mingyu smiled softly at you.
“Look. You have a week to decide if you don’t want to go. I won’t force you. However, it would be nice,” Mingyu offered.
“I’ll be there,” you said, your voice still soft, and Mingyu smiled at you.
“Good. Another glass?” Mingyu asked, motioning to your empty glass.
“Yes, please.”
Tumblr media
You and Mingyu didn’t speak much, choosing to watch a Netflix series and just be near one another, trying and be normal.
“Mingyu?” You called out his name halfway through an episode, and Mingyu turned to smile at you,
“Yeah?” He responded, eyes still on the screen.
You hesitated for a second, “Can I, um. Never mind,” you mumbled, swallowed  your words, and Mingyu groaned, pausing the show.
“What?” He asked, looking at you.
“Can I get a bit of the blanket? I’m cold,” you asked, rubbing your palms together as if to prove a point, and Mingyu grinned, lifting the blanket off him and holding it up.
“Come on. You’ll freeze,” Mingyu said, motioning for you to join him under the blanket, and you froze in a different way.
“Y/N, I’m trying here, but you need to meet me halfway. I can grab another blanket for you, but I’d like to share one with my girlfriend,” Mingyu stated, making your heart swell as you nodded and crawled into and curled into his side.
“The new client, they’re designers, they deal with luxury goods, and they need someone to guide them through our consulting process and how we can be an asset to them,” you mumbled, and Mingyu smiled at you, happy to have a normal conversation with you.
“So, fancy rich people?” Mingyu joked, and you nodded.
“I’m aiming to secure a retainer agreement with them,” you explained, and Mingyu nodded,
“Well, make sure you rest in between, okay? Because you always overextend yourself, and I don’t want you burning out,” Mingyu spoke softly, and you smiled fondly at him.
“I won’t,” you promised, and Mingyu smiled, holding out his pinkie to you, “promise?” He asked, and you laughed and laced your finger with his.
“I promise,” you said, and Mingyu smiled, letting go of your hand, and pulled you closer to his side.
“Okay, now can we find out what happens in this episode?” Mingyu asked, and you rolled your eyes at him.
“Gyu, it’s Suits. Harvey Specter will do something that is not viable in reality and save the day,” you explained. The lawyer in you just could not refrain from describing how wrong Suits was.
“You called me Gyu,” Mingyu mumbled.
“Shit, I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to,” you apologised, and Mingyu paused the episode and turned to face you, his legs around you as you sat in the space between his legs.
“You know, all of the restraining, the formalities. I get why you’ve held back, but it’s been two months. I’m not mad at you for calling me Gyu. It made me happy. You’ve imposed all these restrictions on yourself, none of which I asked you to do. I’m not blaming or scolding you. I’m simply saying that I want you to be yourself—the funny, unfiltered, loving and frankly unrestrained woman that I fell in love with. I know you’ll say that you hurt me being that, but I just don’t want to dwell anymore,” Mingyu explained, and you nodded.
“Gyu,” you repeated, and Mingyu smiled at you before frowning when he realised you were crying.
“Hey now, why are you crying,” Mingyu asked.
“You’re so fucking, patient. You’re so kind for what I did, and I hate that I’m the one falling apart,” you admitted, and Mingyu smiled at you, wiping a tear off your face.
“In some sick way, I appreciate it because I know you regret what you did. It’d be worse if you acted so normal. If you showed no remorse, then I’d be like fuck. I’m on my way, I guess.” Mingyu confessed, wiping your tears.
“I’m so sorry,” you apologised.
“I know. You’ve said it enough times. So I know you’re sorry, but as I said, I need time, but I don’t want to act or walk around eggshells with you because then one day that will end up blowing up in our faces,” Mingyu explained, and you nodded.
“I don’t deserve you,” you mumbled, and Mingyu sighed and pulled you closer to him.
“You don’t, but I love you. So let me decide if I can do this?” Mingyu said, and you nodded, smiling softly as Mingyu wiped another tear off your face.
“Now, can I watch Harvey Specter save the day?” Mingyu asked, and you smiled at him as he pressed play.
Mingyu adjusted himself so you were lying on his chest as you watched the episode. Mingyu shifted slightly, making his leg brush against your underwear, making you bite your lip, an action that did not go unnoticed by Mingyu.
“What?” Mingyu asked, and you shook your head.
“Nothing,” you mumbled before fixing your eyes back on the screen.
Mingyu smirked, shifting his leg again, and you couldn’t help the soft moan that fell from your lips.
“You liked that?” Mingyu teased, and you sighed, nodding, making him smirk as you both continued to watch Suits.
However, he adjusted himself, and you were sitting between his legs, his large hands tracing small circles on your thigh.
Mingyu suddenly paused the show and asked you to turn around. You did as he asked, and he pulled you into his lap.
“Kiss me,” Mingyu whispered, his hands wrapping around your waist, pulling you closer to him.
You smiled as you touched his lips, groaning immediately when you tasted him for the first time in months. You were kissing him, not just a peck, but a kiss.
You felt him run his tongue along your bottom lip, and he slipped his tongue inside you. You moaned into his mouth and kept kissing him until he slowly pulled away from you.
You were about to apologise in case you went too far, but Mingyu pulled you in for another kiss. You moaned into the kiss as his bulge pressed into your cloth-covered cunt. Mingyu moved quickly and pulled his cock out.
“I need to feel you,” Mingyu muttered against your lips, and you moaned and nodded. Mingyu moved your panties to the side, ran his cock against your folds and pushed into you.
“Fuck,” you choked out, your hands gripping his hair for support.
“You’re so fucking tight. So fucking tight,” Mingyu groaned as he let his cock stretch you open. You moaned as Mingyu guided his cock in and out of you.
He laid back and let you fall on his chest before he picked his pace, thrusting into you relentlessly. The lack of sex between the two of you meant that you both came quickly. You simply continued to kiss him, scared to speak as if it’d ruin the moment.
You rested your head against Mingyu’s chest as you felt him soften inside you, his warmth coating your walls.
“Mingyu?” you asked softly, noticing that your boyfriend’s expression didn’t match yours.
“Did you kiss that guy?” Mingyu asked, and you sighed, climbing off his lap.
“Mingyu, don’t,” you begged, making him scoff at you.
“I did. I’m so sorry,” you apologised, and Mingyu sighed, standing up and pulling his trousers up.
“This was way too quick. I know I initiated it, so I’m not mad at you, but right now, I can’t look at you,” Mingyu admitted, taking a deep breath before delivering the words that made you despise yourself further.
“The entire time I was inside you, all I could think about was the fact that you probably moaned the same way for that other guy. Looking just as fucked out, and that’s not an image I can get over so easily,” Mingyu continued.
“I’m going to bed,” Mingyu said, not sparing you a glance and heading upstairs.
You decided to stay downstairs the entire night. It would do neither of you any good to be near one another now. You felt terrible. You should have stopped him, but you missed his touch.
You hated how you had become a slave to your instincts.
Tumblr media
“Hey. Oh, you’re leaving?” Mingyu asked as he saw you sliding your heels on the following day.
“Yeah. Fancy clients, they call, I answer,” you replied.
“Like that guy in the bar? He snapped, and your face fell.
“Mingyu, I can do this with you after work. You can yell, scream and insult me as much as you need. Just not before work.” Mingyu’s glare intensified.
“Do you think I do it because I enjoy hurting you?” Mingyu asked, and you shook your head at him.
“Mingyu, I need to go,” you said, reaching for the doorknob, and Mingyu scoffed at you.
“Do you have anything you want to say?” Mingyu asked, and you sighed at him.
“I do. But I do not have the time for it now,” you explained, and Mingyu nodded.
“Just think about this as you go to work. Why do you have time for everyone except for me?” Mingyu said before storming upstairs.
Tumblr media
“Y/N, well done. The clients are impressed with you, and I think we are getting closer to signing them,” Your boss praised after the meeting.
“Thanks,” you said with no real emotion, and your boss eyed you.
“Okay, what the hell? You should be happy?” your boss asked.
“My personal life is falling apart,” you admitted.
“Well, look. It’s already three. Why don’t you head home? You killed it today so that you can take the afternoon off,” your boss offered, and you thanked him profusely.
Tumblr media
“Mingyu, I’m home. Oh,” you called out the second you entered the apartment and froze when you saw some of Mingyu’s members sitting in your living room. You got mixed reactions from all of them.
Seungcheol offered you a weak smile, Wonwoo nodded, Jun blinked a couple of times, and Jihoon looked your way to acknowledge your presence. You were thankful that the older members were discreet.
The same could not be said for the younger members.
“What are you doing here?” Chan asked, earning him a slight nudge from Jun for being disrespectful to someone older than him.
“I live here,” you muttered, and that was all it took for Soonyoung to snap.
“Right, because it’s your house, right?” Soonyoung fired back, knowing well that the building was in Mingyu’s name and not yours.
“I, um,” you stuttered, unsure of how to handle Soonyoung’s words.
“Y/N, why don’t you go to the bedroom? I’ll be done soon?” Mingyu interjected he couldn’t handle another fight with you, and he didn’t fancy seeing Soonyoung rip you to shreds, either. You gave Mingyu a forced smile and headed to his bedroom.
Tumblr media
“Hey,” Mingyu said as he sat next to you on the bed.
“They’re uh gone. It’s safe for you to come out,” Mingyu explained, and you nodded.
“Does it bother you?” You asked.
“What bothers me?”
“The wealth gap between us,” you elaborated.
“You’re acting like you’re impoverished,” Mingyu scoffed, and he wasn’t wrong. You could live a very comfortable life without Mingyu’s wealth, but sometimes seeds of insecurity would get planted in your mind, and you’d wonder if you were enough.
“You know, if you dated an idol, she’d make as much money as you,” you said bitterly.
“I don’t say this to be a dick, but no. She wouldn’t. Frankly, what we make is very high. I’m grateful, but unless I’m dating another multimillionaire, then I’d still be earning more in a relationship,” Mingyu explained.
“She’d understand your life,” you offered, and Mingyu frowned.
“She’d understand that there would be lonely nights, weeks and months. She would get it, and she wouldn’t go looking for more when she had enough,” you admitted, feeling ashamed, feeling your voice crack.
“Is that why?” Mingyu asked.
“Why what?”
“Why you cheated,” Mingyu clarified.
“Oh god no, Mingyu, I wish I had a reason why, I don’t. It was dumb, it was stupid, and it’s something I’ll hate myself for doing to you. Nothing I did that night can justify why I did what I did. There’s nothing except a dumb fucking decision,” you rambled, not realising that you were crying until you realised that Mingyu inched closer to you, holding your face in his hands and wiping your tears.
“Don’t hate yourself. I don’t,” Mingyu said quietly.
“Why not?”
“I hate what you did, but to hate you? Fuck, that’s something I don’t think I can do,” Mingyu admitted.
“Soonyoung hyung was way out of line,” Mingyu added, understanding what your spiral was about, and you shook your head and gently moved his hands away from your face.
“No. He wasn’t. He’s protecting you,” you countered, and Mingyu shrugged, not wanting to argue with you.
“It wasn’t just Soonyoung hyung. I was out of line, too. I said some shitty things to you this morning and last night. Having sex with you again, trust me, for the most part, it was good, but the minute you started to moan and get close to cumming. I couldn’t help but think of you doing the same thing for another man,” Mingyu confessed.
“But I shouldn’t have lashed out like that. I should have stopped Soonyoung hyung today,” Mingyu mumbled as you stayed quiet.
“Say something, please?” Mingyu asked.
“You had every right to act the way you did, and Soonyoung wasn’t wrong in expressing his anger,” you said calmly, and Mingyu pouted at you.
“Okay, let’s change the topic. Why did you come back early?” Mingyu asked.
“The meeting went well, and I guess my boss saw me miserable, so he let me come back early,” you admitted with a soft smile.
“Lovely, then I’m ordering food, and we can spend the day together,” Mingyu said, clapping his hands, and you traced circles on his hand.
“Gyu?” You said, making him smile.
“Yes?” He asked. You held out your arms to him, and he smiled, pulling you into his lap for a hug. You held on tightly. It was so fragile, and you were so scared to let go. You pulled away slowly, your lips inches away from his.
“Kiss me,” Mingyu whispered, his lips ghosting yours. You smiled and placed your lips on his. The kiss escalated quickly, as it always did. From being in Mingyu’s lap, you were now lying under him as he kept kissing you. His tongue was deepening the kiss. His hand moved up your body until it landed on the button of your trousers.
“Can I?” Mingyu asked, and you nodded, and that’s all Mingyu needed.
Mingyu undid the button and pushed his hand down your trousers and past your panties. His fingers found your clit, and he started to rub. You moaned into the kiss. Whimpers and pants were leaving your lips as he rubbed your clit.
When he suddenly stopped, you were so scared that the events of last night would occur again. Instead, Mingyu moved away from the kiss, pulled your trousers and panties off, and laid between your legs.
Mingyu moved to let his mouth wrap around your clit, making you buck into his mouth. You wanted to scream his name but were so scared that you’d break this moment if you spoke. Not just for the sake of an incredible orgasm but because you felt as if things between you two could finally be okay.
A sharp slap to your clit took you out of your thoughts.
“Why aren’t you making any noise? Have I lost my touch?” Mingyu growled, and you shook your head.
“No, it’s just, fuck,” you could barely finish your sentence as Mingyu pushed three fingers into you.
You winced slightly at the stretch, slowly letting out a moan as his lips found your clit again. Mingyu licked and flicked your clit while thrusting his fingers in and out of you.
“Fuck, I’m going to cum,” you choked out as you grabbed the sheets. You came and felt Mingyu lick you more. His hands held your shaking legs in place as he licked you through your orgasm.
“Good?” Mingyu asked, moving up your body, capturing your lips with his.
“Yes,” you moaned into the kiss as Mingyu smiled into the kiss.
“Can I?” Mingyu asked, and you nodded, knowing what he wanted, as he pulled his shirt off and threw his shorts across the room as he lined his thick length against your cunt and pushed in.
“Fuck,” Mingyu groaned as he started to thrust into you.
“Baby, you’re so tight, and it’s been so long. I won’t last,” Mingyu groaned as he played with your clit.
“Cum, Mingyu,” you encouraged as Mingyu started to pound into you harder, making you squeal in pleasure as you came around him. Mingyu groaned as his orgasm followed soon after yours.
Mingyu pulled you in for another kiss before moving his lips away and pulling out of you.
“No, don’t just stay with me,” Mingyu said, pulling you back into his arms.
“Gyu?” He hummed.
“I love you,” you said, and Mingyu sighed, placing a kiss on your forehead. It stung when he didn’t say it back, but you couldn’t take it.
You’d do anything to make it right.
Tumblr media
“Do I look okay?” You asked later that week as you stepped out of the bathroom wearing a simple black dress. Mingyu smiled at you.
“They’ll love you no matter what,” Mingyu offered casually, and you froze.
“I mean. Uh,” Mingyu fumbled, and you gave him a small smile at walked over to him.
“I know.” Mingyu sighed, placing a kiss on your forehead.
“You look lovely, and you know I’ll always think that, but please don’t go in expecting too much tonight,” Mingyu offered.
“I know,” you said with a sad smile, and Mingyu pouted slightly. He almost hated that he felt terrible for you, especially since you brought this upon yourself.
“Let’s go?” Mingyu asked.
Tumblr media
The entire car ride to the dorm was quiet. You were both too nervous.
“Hey, look, they might be vicious. It’s just that they care for me, so they’ll get defensive,” Mingyu explained, and you nodded.
“Yeah. I’ll be brave,” you said, grinning.
Mingyu nodded at your comment. He knew you deserved their anger and resentment, but it didn’t mean that it made it easier for him to hear it. Mingyu hated watching you sink with every insult or backhanded comment that was thrown your way.
Mingyu knocked on the door while you prayed that one of the older members would open the door.
“Y/N, Mingyu, glad you two could make it,” Seungcheol said, smiling at Mingyu and nodding in your direction.
“Come in. There are drinks and appetisers being served now,” Mingyu nodded, guiding you into their dorm.
“Go sit, look Wonwoo hyung won’t bite. I’ll be there in a minute.” You tried to plead with him, but you knew that you had lost any upper hand you may have once had.
“May I sit?” You asked Wonwoo, who simply nodded. You sat down cautiously.
“Can I get you a drink?” Wonwoo asked.
“Careful, hyung. Alcohol is the reason she’s in this predicament,” Soonyoung muttered, and Wonwoo shot him a glare. While Wonwoo was beyond upset with you, he didn’t approve of Soonyoung’s behaviour either.
“Okay, I’m here. What did I miss?” Mingyu asked, sliding next to you.
“Nothing, Gyu,” you mumbled, curling into his side, and Mingyu simply stared at his hyungs, hoping one of them would tell him what transpired.
“Alright, let me get you a drink, gin and tonic, right?” Mingyu asked as he stood up and headed back into the kitchen before you could stop him.
“Alright, here you go,” Mingyu returned, thankfully, quickly as he handed you your drink.
“Oh, Mingyu, are you excited about your project? You’ll be co-writing with Yuri for her solo?” Jun asked in an attempt to ease the tension in the room.
“Actually, yeah. She texted me about the song. I think it’ll be really cool. I’m meeting her at her studio next week,” Mingyu responded, and you loved seeing how lively he looked when he spoke about his work.
“What’s the song about?” You asked, and you saw Mingyu freeze for a second.
“Heartbreak and betrayal,” Mingyu mumbled, and you simply took another sip of your drink.
“I mean, we should really thank you, Y/N. You gave Mingyu such amazing inspiration,” Soonyoung remarked sarcastically, and you cringed.
“Y/N, I left my planner in my room last week. Do you think you could get it?” Mingyu asked, and you nodded quickly, running away from the living room and upstairs to Mingyu’s bedroom, trying your hardest not to break down on your way.
You knew there was no planner, but you were grateful to Mingyu for giving you a reason to leave.
Tumblr media
Back in the living room, Mingyu was trying his hardest to reason with Soonyoung.
“Hyung, I’m trying to fix things with her, but it won't work if you keep saying things like that. She’s sorry,” Mingyu pleaded, and Soonyoung scoffed.
“Cheaters don’t change, and to her credit, I can see she’s sorry, but you don’t deserve that, and I don’t know why you’re putting up with it. You could have anyone else, and you're choosing the one who broke your heart.”
Tumblr media
“Hey.”
You heard a voice call, turned around to see Chan, and quickly wiped your face.
“Shit, you’re crying,” Chan muttered, closing the door behind him.
“No, uh, just allergies.” Chan laughed.
“Yeah, right,” Chan scoffed, and you sighed.
“Why are you here?” You asked, and Chan shrugged.
“Well, hyung sent me, and Soonyoung hyung is having a talk with Mingyu hyung. So you’ve got me,” Chan explained.
“Can I ask you something?”
“Why? I mean, did he ever upset you or ignore you? Is there something we don’t know?” Chan asked.
“I was lonely. It’s not an excuse at all. We were fighting so much. I just wanted something to numb the pain.” Chan nodded.
“Alcohol would have been a better solution, literally. It’s a solution,” Chan joked as you let out a tearful chuckle.
“Yay, you smiled,” Chan cheered.
“Don’t you hate me?” You asked, and Chan shook his head.
“No. I’ll always be upset, but hyung isn’t a baby. He doesn’t need me to coddle him or fight for him. I’m not mean, but sometimes I can lash out, and even I can say that Soonyoung hyung took it too far. You’ve always made hyung happy, and if being with you makes him happy and he forgives you, then I think we should all make peace with it.” Chan offered.
“Chan, I need to talk to her,” a voice interrupted as you saw Mingyu enter the room.
“Sure,” Chan said, waving at you as he left the room.
“He forgave you?” Mingyu asked.
“No, but he said if I make you happy, then he’ll make his peace with it,” you explained.
“Fuck, well, this doesn’t make what I’m about to do next any easier,” Mingyu mumbled, and you knew. It was over. He tried and couldn’t, and you didn’t blame him.
“I’ll pack my things by the end of the day tomorrow,”  you said as you tried to get up, and Mingyu held your wrist gently.
“No, you keep that apartment. I want to have a fresh start. Most of my things are here anyway,” Mingyu countered.
“I can’t forgive you,” Mingyu admitted, and you simply nodded, eyes trained on the carpeted floor.
“Mingyu?” You whispered his name, and he looked at you.
“I’m so sorry,” you apologised.
“I can drive you back,” Mingyu offered, and you shook your head.
“No, I’ll take a cab,” you mumbled. Mingyu nodded and turned around.
“Then leave. I can’t pretend anymore,” Mingyu breathed out, and you could hear how shaky his voice was.
You placed your hand on his shoulder, squeezing it and left.
“Thank you for everything,” you said tearfully as you practically ran out of his bedroom and out of the dorms.
Tumblr media
“Y/N!” Soonyoung ran after you, his hand on your wrist. The rest of the boys were confused for two reasons, one being that you left without Mingyu and the second that Soonyoung was the one that ran after you.
You were standing outside the dorm as Soonyoung held you in place.
“What the hell happened? Where are you going?” He asked.
“Home. Mingyu broke up with me, so I’m going home,” you admitted, and Soonyoung frowned.
“Did my comments do this?” Soonyoung asked, and you shook your head.
“No, we were bound to end. I should go,” you said sadly. Soonyoung sighed.
“I’m sorry it turned out this way,” Soonyoung apologised.
“Goodbye,” you said to Soonyoung.
Tumblr media
That night when you got home, you couldn’t cry. You just felt numb. You felt nothing. You felt dead inside.
For the next week, you called off work, thankfully your clients had gone on a holiday and wouldn’t be back for two weeks. You took a week off. It wasn’t a lot, but it would be enough for you to start over.
You did every cliché there was. You went for a facial, went for a spa day. You drank and watched crappy movies with ice cream. Drank until you fell asleep. Every night you went to bed alone and hoped for a text from him.
You just needed to know that he was okay. You knew he felt every emotion deeply, and you didn’t want your stupidity to hurt him anymore.
One night after downing half a bottle of wine, you found it in you to dial his number. You sighed in relief when you realised he hadn’t blocked you.
“Y/N, it’s three in the morning?” Mingyu groaned, and that’s when you broke all the tears that never fell.
They all fell the minute you heard his voice.
“Y/N?” Mingyu said, more awake and concerned about your heavy breathing.
“Are you okay?” You mumbled, your voice breaking with every word.
“Y/N, fuck. Are you at home? Are you okay?” You sighed.
“Yeah. I just, I’m sorry, Mingyu.” Mingyu sighed before hanging up.
Tumblr media
“Jesus, fuck,” you yelped when you saw Mingyu sitting in your kitchen the following day. You looked around the house.
“You cleaned up?” You asked, and Mingyu nodded.
“Most people change the locks when their ex moves out,” Mingyu joked, and you frowned.
“The house is under your name,” you said, giving a lame excuse, and Mingyu sighed.
“Am I okay? You called me yesterday to ask me that?” Mingyu asked, and you groaned. “Do you even care? You walked away,” Mingyu continued, raising his voice at you, and you just stared at him.
“You broke up with me,” you said, confused, and Mingyu nodded.
“I fought for us when you cheated, and you didn’t even fucking try,” Mingyu cried out.
“Gyu,” you started to say. Mingyu glared at you.
“Don’t Gyu me, I’m not yours,” Mingyu snapped, and you nodded.
“I saw the way you tried so hard to love me again. It broke you, and I want you to be happy, so I didn’t fight because you deserve better,” you yelled back, and Mingyu scoffed.
“You remember how I told you I’d be working on a song with Yuri?” Mingyu asked, and you nodded slowly, unsure why he randomly brought it up.
“We were in the studio, I think this was two nights after we broke up, and I think right before we wrapped up our session, she kissed me,” Mingyu explained.
“Oh.”
“I kissed her back,” Mingyu clarified.
“Okay.”
“But I couldn’t do it. Her lips, the kiss it all felt foreign to me. It wasn’t what I’m used to, and more importantly. It’s not what I want,” Mingyu added.
“She kissed you?” You repeated, feeling tears threaten to spill over.
“While you’re entitled to your feelings. I really hope you realise that getting mad at me for this will be beyond hypocritical,” Mingyu stated.
“I’m not. Just wow, she fits into your world. Better than I ever could,” you said weakly, and Mingyu scoffed as he stood up, moving closer to you,
“No. You can feel shitty for cheating on me, but I will not ever let you think you don’t belong in this world,” Mingyu said, and you pouted.
“I hurt you,” you choked out, your voice breaking.
“Yeah, and it fucking sucked. It still does, but one week. One week was enough to make me realise I don’t want to be without you. So we’re going to get through this,” Mingyu declared, determined, and you started to sob, and Mingyu took you into his arms, holding you tight.
“We’re going to hit reset. We will go on a first date again, and I will learn to trust you again. Clean slate,” Mingyu said, holding you close.
You nodded. Chances like these rarely come by, so you weren’t going to waste them.
“Oh and also, no more apologising. I’m not trying to rewrite history, but if you keep apologising, I won’t ever get past it. So let’s just start over, okay?” Mingyu explained, and you nodded tearfully.
“Reset?” You asked.
“Reset.”
“We’ll do this the right way,” Mingyu said, and you shook your head.
“No. I will. I’ll love you the way I should have,” you said, making him grin at you as you hugged him tightly, not wanting to let go.
You’d be damned if you lost him again.

DAY 5: CHRISTMAS LOVE
Tumblr media
pairing: mattheo riddle x fem!reader
summary: it was no secret that mattheo riddle annoyed the hell out of you, but you did grow concerned when you suddenly didn’t mind it anymore..
warnings: suggestive, mentions of throwing up, but it doesn’t actually happen. apart from that nothing else
notes: i’m so sorry but i lost the original request, so i had to go with the short notes i had made, so i might leave something out! but i think i have the essential part
sorry it took me so long to post but i had to proofread before i could let whatever the fuck this is (🫠) into the world!
you watched the snow fall behind the stained glass window. the library was dimly lit, making it easier for you to see.
you loved this time of year. it was so quiet. especially in hogwarts. most of the student body had gone home for the holidays and you were one of the few people that stayed.
to your luck the biggest nuisance in the world did too. “what are we looking at?” mattheo riddle asked close to your ear.
you shrieked to the side, startled by his sudden appearance.
“what?” he asked “you’re scared of me now?”
you rolled your eyes “scared isn’t the word i would use, more like deeply frustrated” you grabbed the book from the window sill and got up.
“sexually?” he asked, raising his eyebrows
“ugh” you rolled your eyes, walking around him
“hey!” mattheo tried to stand in your way but was unsuccessful “where are you going?”
“somewhere you aren’t”
mattheo followed close behind you. “come on” he said “it’s christmas time! the loveliest time of the year! can’t you knit me a sweater or something?”
you send him a spiteful look.
“a hat?”
“i’m not gonna knit you anything” you halted in your step. taking a quick look at the book in your hand before you held it in his direction. “actually, do you mind bringing this back to where i got it from?”
“do i get mittens?”
“sure” you rolled your eyes and waited until he had walked around the shelf, before you quickly sprinted to the exit.
to your luck, he made it out of the library just a second after.
since he had first noticed how much it annoyed you, mattheo had made it a habit to follow you around the castle. over the time he had become an instant trigger for your headache.
“so what about these mittens huh?”
“riddle, can’t you leave me alone?” at least he was walking not next to you
“you’re the only one in our year i know”
“and?”
“christmas is for friends huh?”
“we’re not friends” you argued, crossing your arms
“we could be” mattheo shrugged. “and then you realize how great i am and give me a blowjob on christmas morning”
“oh because you’re so great i suddenly want to give you a blowjob?” you asked disgusted, while crossing your arms
“there’s no shame in admitting you want to pleasure me”
“eww” you shook your head “do you ever think about anything else but sex?”
“you’re way too hot to not think about sex or you getting on your knees and—“
“alright” you interrupted, raising your arms. but before you could try something else to get him to leave you alone, something helpful entered your field of vision.
you smiled at him, before you walked left.
“no!” mattheo argued “that’s not fair”
you walked into the girls washroom and ignored him. he held the door open.
“you know it violates my principles to go in there”
“i do” you nodded, pretty aware that he wouldn’t be caught dead in there. you weren’t even sure why. mattheo normally wasn’t the guy to follow rules, but he did have a high moral standard considering places like the girls washroom or sleeping quarters.
you smiled mischievously, suddenly thinking about testing him “come in here and i’ll give you the best blowjob of your life”
you weren’t even thinking about ever doing that.
mattheo ignored what you said, even if he did get a little white at your words “you play dirty!” he protested “but okay, you win this time!”
you smiled about the frustration on his face. he had always tried to flirt with you, but it never fazed you, so now you were the impossible challenge for him. and what better time for this than when almost to no students were in hogwarts and school was out.
mattheo found you later in the evening, while you were sitting at the slytherin table, enjoying your meal while reading your book. during the holidays no one could forbid you from doing that.
you had heard him approach from a few feet away. it was like you had developed a special radar for him over the years.
"hello, love" he sat down beside you
"don't call me that" you muttered, without looking up
"what? no flinching?"
"you're not invisible"
"okay then what was that, a few hours ago in the library?" he asked and you could practically feel him raising his eyebrows.
"the library was the last place i expected you to be" you said truthfully
"you were there"
"yes" you nodded and looked up at him "because i thought you'd never be"
mattheo sighed, sliding closer to you. you side eyed him. "come any closer and i'll scream"
“come on, y/n” mattheo said almost sounding friendly. but then there was that smug smile again. “why don’t we call a truce? considering the holiday season?”
“never” you turned the page “can you leave me alone now?”
mattheo began eating peacefully, not even caring what you had said and you just sighed, going back to ignoring him. after you had finished dinner, he followed you again as if it was the most normal thing in the world.
“stop following me” you stopped, turning around to look at him
“i do have the same way, you know?” he came closer to you, leaning down and whispering in your ear “not everything i do is about you, sweetheart” you watched with big eyes how he smirked and then undid his tie with a quick gesture. he winked at you before he continued his way, leaving you standing in the hallway.
you looked after him puzzled. you had not considered that proximity — or how it had made you feel. you almost found it attractive. you couldn’t believe what you were thinking but for a short second you really were attracted to mattheo riddle. of all people.
you tried to take calming breaths, so whatever had happened right now would go away, but it was to no appeal.
of course mattheo had always looked good, even you couldn’t ignore that, but you had never once thought about him as more than a nuisance that got on your last nerve. now you were almost wishing him to be here, pushing you against the wall—
you couldn’t determine what had suddenly come over you. mattheo had done a pretty good job bothering you these past few years and you had always resisted his advances. and now, just half a year before graduation you were getting weak?
you tried shaking your head, to get rid of the thoughts in there. you quickly walked in the direction of the common room.
in your room, you went into the bathroom, taking a cold shower and after that going to bed as quick as possible. you didn’t want to grant your head the time to think about the stupid boy even more.
the next few days were torture for you. you hadn’t had a proper sleep in days, your mind always wandering back to him.
of course mattheo had picked up his usual habit again, finding you whenever you had been able to get rid of him. every word of him made you a bit weaker in the knees and almost give in. but there was that little bit of self worth that kept you from leaping over the table and kissing the smug smile off his face.
right now you were sitting at dinner, not really getting anything down while you slowly turned the pages of your magazine, while mattheo was sitting across from you, talking your ear off.
even if you could act normal with your last bit of strength, you weren’t able to fight his presence anymore. when he was able to find you, you would mostly just give in. and to your horror you had to admit that he wasn’t even as bad as you had thought. even if half the things he said were total nonsense.
you caught yourself losing track of the magazine and actually listening to him. and you didn’t even hate it. he was funny, you had to admit and he was interested in what you had to answer to his questions
“what’s your favorite color?” he asked, just after he had finished a rant about not being allowed to smoke in his dorm, but doing it anyway.
“huh?” you asked
“your favorite color” mattheo smiled and probably for the first time you noticed how beautiful it was. and it seemed genuine.
“green” you shrugged and his smile got impossibly bigger.
“i like green too” he gushed. he looked like a five year old. and to your personal horror you did not find it disgusting, but rather cute and charming. you wanted to throw up, right now, right here.
you got up from the seat abruptly. “i have to go to the bathroom” you said quickly and mattheo looked at you in confusion
“are you alright?” he asked, but you were already walking out the hall in a quick step.
you reached the bathroom and almost stumbled into the stall, falling down on the floor.
“y/n?” a voice from outside the washroom called
“not now, mattheo” you said annoyed. you leaned against the wall, while you began to cry. luckily you didn’t have to throw up. but the feeling didn’t go away.
you didn’t know what was happening to you. you were feeling like you had lost your mind.
“y/n?” mattheo called again, sounding concerned “are you alright?”
“i said not now” you screamed. he was standing in the door, looking at you scared. he looked like he didn’t know what to do. and still he did not set a foot into the room.
“are you crying?” he wondered
“no!” you screamed, while tears were running down your cheeks, very openly falsifying your statement. you quickly wiped them away.
“what’s wrong?”
“everything” you bellowed “and all of it is your fault!”
“my fault?” he asked almost offended “what the fuck are you talking about?”
“i don’t know what you did to make me feel like this, but as soon as find out you’re gonna hope you were never born” you got up walking into his direction, pointing your finger at him accusingly. he was walking backwards until you were both standing in the hall.
“whoa” he raised his hands “i didn’t do anything to you”
“you’re lying” you shook your head “i can’t eat, i can’t sleep. i think about you all the time, without wanting to and i actually listen to what you tell me and the worst thing is that i suddenly don’t hate you anymore. i hated you for the past six years and now i can’t do it anymore? what the fuck is going on mattheo? i feel like i’m losing my mind”
you almost wanted him to find a solution for your problem.
“i don’t know okay?” mattheo said “maybe you’re just in love with me” he joked then, but it smile faded quickly and he got serious. “maybe you are in love with me” he repeated softly.
you send him a spiteful look “i’d rather jump out of the window than be in love with you”
“i’d rather jump out of the window than be in love with you too” he exclaimed. then he paused, until he looked into your eyes, smiling slightly “but i just can’t help it” he whispered
your eyes softened. for the first time in a long time, you believed what he was saying.
“i can’t eat, i can’t sleep” he muttered, gently fixing a strand of your hair “i think about you all the time” he touched your cheek softly “and i actually listen to what you tell me” his fingers grazed your lips. “and i don’t ever want it to stop” his hand touched your neck and your eyes closed on instant.
then he softly kissed you. your hand went to his collar, drawing him closer. you deepened the kiss, while you breathed in his smell. he smelled of nicotine and some sort of perfume that was unfamiliar to you but it could make you recognize him anywhere.
he softly broke the kiss, leaning his forehead against yours. “why does it feel so intense?” you asked “i thought i had to throw up back in there” you pointed behind you.
“i’d say it gets better, but it never does” he shrugged “not even after years”
“years?” you repeated “you felt like this for years?”
“did you think i was following you around because i loved spending my time in the library?”
“i thought you followed me because you just wanted to get in my pants”
“don’t get me wrong, i do want to get into your pants” he smirked “but not only once and i also want to do so much more than just that”
you smiled at him. maybe being in love with someone wasn’t so bad after all. not when it was him.
he smiled back “let’s go back to the common room” he suggested and you nodded. he layed an arm around your shoulder, kissing you on the forehead.
“mattheo?”
“hmm?”
“why didn’t you go in the washroom a few days ago, even though i promised you the best blowjob of your life?” you asked the question in a joking manner, but it really did interest you.
“you didn’t mean it”
“still”
“it’s not respectful” he shrugged “entering a place like that, it’s not okay, even if no one would catch me. even if it would be just the two of us” he said truthfully “but back there? i almost threw all that out of the window, because i thought something was wrong and you needed my help”
you hugged his body closer “thank you” you whispered and he kissed you on the head.
“so.. about those mittens”
you laughed. “merry christmas, matty”
“merry christmas, y/n”

✩ ‧₊˚ ✩。MORE — HANMA SHUJI.
based on this shit post i made on my side that has not left my brain since i took my final so here is a painfully cheesy scene i took out of a fic i wrote a while ago that i’ll never post bc it’s embarrassingly self indulgent
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“these are bad for you, did you know that?” you mutter.
“that so?” hanma hums, leaning closer as your fingers work his lighter. his forehead practically bumps against yours as you light the end of his cigarette—even despite your lecture. he watches you as you do it, glances over the bridge of your nose and the curve of your lips as you frown.
“yeah,” you huff. “if you used that head of yours, you’d know these are death sticks.”
his lips are crooked in that smile of his—one that tells you he won’t stop. it’s a silent truth you’re both aware of, but it doesn’t keep you from scolding him. he needs to know, you think—that someone cares what happens to him. someone will miss him, even if no one else else will.
“good thing i have you to tell me,” he grins.
you think you could paint it from memory, the wide curve of his lips. you could remember exactly where that dimple on his left cheek is, where every crinkle of his eyes are under his glasses, how the slant of his jaw angles as he leans his head up. you’re too busy staring at him to fight it when his hand rubs over the small or your back, curling his arm around you and pulling you flush against his chest.
“it’s not like you ever listen to me,” you grumble against his shirt. it smells like him—like smoke and cologne that must be comically expensive. and it’s bad for you, perhaps—the secondhand smoke that creeps up your lungs and kills you slowly. but it’s blissful, comforting even. “but you should listen to me more.”
“i should,” he agrees.
“you won’t,” you pout.
he chuckles at that, takes a drag from the cigarette in his hand as he holds you tighter, sways you gently as the sun sets and coats your skin, leaving it sweet and honeyed just for him.
hanma shuji is not known for gentleness. he’s a hushed whisper, as if speaking the reapers name welcomes him to your doorstep, the blood dripping from the scythe as a fresh reminder that death is only around the corner. he should be anything but gentle in your eyes—yet when his fingertips find your skin under your shirt, gliding over the dip of your back and the slants of your hips, you think he’s nothing but gentle.
gentle enough to love you. gentle enough to let you love him too. gentle enough to pretend his listens when you scold him. gentle enough to let you know he knows you’ll miss him—even if you’re the only one.
“old habits die hard, baby.”
it’s your turn to huff out a small laugh at that. you want to tell him you know. that old habits do die hard—it’s why you let him walk through your door at ungodly hours, why you clean the caked blood on his fists, why you leave room for him on the other half of the mattress.
old habits die hard. it’s why you love him, even if maybe you shouldn’t.
“if you loved me, you’d quit,” you murmur.
“yeah? you think i don’t fuckin’ love you?” his voice is smooth against your ear, it drowns out the honking cars and the bustling of the city below you. it’s warm and familiar and a tad bit dangerous, but it’s enough to make you relax against his body, arms wrapping around his torso.
it’s silent for a moment. he holds you as you think, and when you make out the beating of his heart under your cheek, you have your answer.
“you know what i think?”
“what, baby?”
“i think you should love me more,” you insist, poking his shoulder accusingly.
“so greedy,” he giggles—and then he pulls you closer, holds you tighter, takes in every part of you like he can’t get enough. it’s him who’s greedy, you think, with the way he wants you enough to make you want him too.
“if you die from lung disease, i’ll have to find a new boyfriend,” you point out.
“you won’t miss me?”
“nope,” you lie. “i’ll be rid of my biggest headache.”
“too bad. guess i won’t die then,” he grins, eyeing down at the top of your head.
somehow, you trust him—he’s never given you a reason not to. you’re sure the fingers on your hips and the warm chest under your cheek and the smell of smoke lingering in the air won’t leave you any time soon. and you hope it won’t, that the sins on his hands aren’t enough to outweigh the prayers on your tongue.
but just to be sure, you look up, propping your chin up on his chest as you whisper, “promise?”
he nods, throwing on that easy grin on his face again. your thumb finds the dimple of his cheek as you cup his face. “of course.”

Sonic and Tails Wholesome Wednesday: My Comeback
I LIVE! I going to be honest with ya; this is simply a draft I rewrote in my free time. I don't know if I will be posting every single Wednesday again. I can try but don't have hope. In any case, enjoy the story!
~~~~~
Tails was working away in his workshop with no distractions. He was near completion when a knock on his door startled him and his head nearly whipped around so fast that one would think he broke it.
Sonic walked in without Tails saying a word and had one expression on his face that Tails knew meant he was in for a lecture. Disappointment.
“Tails,” He began tiredly.
“Sonic,” Tails greeted back, hoping not to show nervousness on his face.
“What happened to the mint ice-cream I just bought yesterday?”
Oh, and here Tails thought he did something seriously wrong. Nerves left his body as a slight grin grew on his face.
“...I ate it.”
“All of it?”
“Yes.”
Silence before Sonic let out the biggest sigh Tails had ever heard come from his mouth.
“Tails.”
“Sonic.”
“You know the consequences, don’t you?”
Tails tried not to chuckle, “I have fifteen seconds to hide before you hunt me down?”
“Nah, that’s for if you had the last chili-dog. The punishment for this is,” Sonic paused for dramatic effect, “Death! Execution! Thine bloodline ends here brother!”
“Gasp, you’re gonna kill me? How could thine? I thought our bond was stronger than this!” Tails spoke dramatically.
“Our bond shattered when you ate an entire carton of mint ice cream by yourself even though I told you not to. I’ll grant you this question though brother, how do thine wish to go out? Your choice,” Sonic smiled, trying not to laugh.
“Uh, hm,” Tails faked pondering, “How about no? No death at all.”
“No? Thine denies his fate!? Then I shall choose!” Sonic declared before tapping his feet and snapping his fingers, trying to think out a way he can continue the bit.
Tails took this opportunity to get up from his chair and bolt for the nearest window. Sonic, having too much fun, used this chance to run into the house to pick up two plastic swords before meeting Tails outside.
He tossed one of the swords over to Tails and twirled the other in his hand, “Thou can’t escape his fate! We shall duel!”
Tails looked shocked at first before giggling. He then got in a fighting stance with a grin, “Fight we shall! Only one brother can make it out alive!”
The plastic swords clashed as Sonic and Tails began going back and forth with swings and jabs only barely missing their marks. Sonic decided he would put some actual effort in and Tails began losing…badly. He tried his best, honest! But his arms were getting tired and his moves were getting sloppy.
Tails tripped over his own feet, landing backwards on the ground getting his fur dirty. The fake sword in Sonic’s hand poked him lightly in the chest. His brother had a big grin on his face while Tails was simply trying to catch his breath, not caring that they lost their little game. His stomach let out a growl and Sonic sighed.
“When was the last time you ate?” He asked.
“Uh…” Aw crud, what was the last thing he ate? “I…I think I accidentally ate a fly just a bit ago. Does that count?”
“No, eating unlucky flies does not count,” Sonic flatly stated before pulling out his phone, “Pizza or Chinese?”
“Chinese, we had pizza yesterday,” Tails answered with a sigh.
“Alrighty, you go in and take a shower and the food should be back by then.”
Tails pulled himself off the ground with a smile and looked Sonic in the eye, “Next time, I’m going to win!”
“Nuh uh.”
“Yuh huh!”
Sonic chuckled, “Alright then, when you do I’ll buy another carton of mint ice cream.”
Tails laughed and made his way back inside without replying. Sonic simply shook his head with a smile, “God, what would I do without this kid.”
Tumblr media
“What’s the escape plan?”
At the question, Poe shoots you an odd look that is quite concerning. “Escape plan?”
“Yeah, the escape pla—oh my god,” you say in a hushed whisper, blinking at him. “You don’t have one.”
“I don’t have one yet. Don’t worry, I’ll come up with something quick and then—”
“—and then we get captured, locked up behind bars to rot or until they decide to—”
Your ramblings are cut short when Poe puts a hand over your mouth, gently shushing you. Three stormtroopers approach the stack of oversized crates, shrouded in darkness due to the absence of sun at this late hour.
You freeze and hold your breath, waiting for them to pass. Fortunately, they march right by without problem, oblivious to the fact that you two are hiding behind them.
As happy and relieved as you were when Poe first showed up to free you, you’re now back to thinking that you will die at the hands of the First Order. It’ll only be a matter of time until someone realizes their imprisoned Resistance spy has escaped. You’ll never get out of here, especially without a plan. You’re doomed.
You swallow thickly and try to distract yourself from the dread and panic clawing inside of you. You’re on the verge of hyperventilating. Glancing around wildly, you need to focus on something else. Anything.
Eventually, you have no choice but to settle on having your attention on the pilot’s stupidly handsome face. You keep your eyes on him, inhaling and exhaling deeply to gather your composure. All the while, you wonder— has he always been this good-looking up close? You have never realized how pretty of a shade his dark eyes are or how much they sparkle in the low light. You’ve never seen such thick and curly hair like his, and you have the biggest urge to card your fingers through it.
“Sweetheart, hey—relax,” Poe murmurs when you grow quiet on him, his watchful gaze flickering every now and then to check your surroundings. “Breathe. We got this.”
Poe has long dropped his hand from your mouth, but it remains on your face, cupping your cheek as he assesses you for any injuries. You feel your pulse pick up a beat. You’re sure it’s mainly from the threat of danger you’ve found yourself in. Certainly not because of Poe, your good friend, and crush ever since the day you joined the Resistance.
No, it definitely cannot be that.
“Okay,” you sigh out, nodding. You take a quick glance at the perimeter yourself this time, mostly to hide away from his gaze. “Now what? We can’t stay and hide here forever.”
“You’re right,” Poe agrees. He steps closer to you, his chest brushing against your back as he scans the area with you. “My ship’s past the tree line. Best course of action is to sneak out without alerting anyone. But if things don’t go our way, we use these.”
Slipped into your hand is a blaster. You take a deep breath and tighten your fingers around the grip. You hope it doesn’t come down to a shootout between you, Poe, and the dozens of armed guards patrolling the place. Violence isn’t really your strong suit. That’s why you preferred missions that involved laying low and gathering intel. Too bad your cover got blown on this assignment.
(And yes, you are still sore about that).
“I’m a shit shot, just a heads up,” you warn Poe. You turn around and bump into him, forgetting that there’s barely any space between you. He doesn’t make an effort to step away, and surprisingly, you don’t either.
Poe’s lips curl into a smug grin. He holds up his own weapon in his hand. “And I’m very much not. See, we’re a perfect match. On a scale of 1 to 10, how’d you rate my spur-of-the-moment escape plan?”
You bite back a chuckle and shake your head. Leave it to Poe to distract you from your worries, even if it only lasts a minute. In all seriousness, you have faith in him. He can be overly cocky sometimes, but he’s smart and skillful. You’ve seen and heard what he’s capable of. There’s a reason why you and plenty of others admire the hell out of him.
“I’d give it a 7.5, mainly ’cause I trust in your confidence too much. Plus, it’s not like we have other options.”
“That’s the spirit,” Poe beams. “Sorry if I worried you about not really thinking this through earlier. Once I found out you were being held out here, I kinda just... went for it, y’know? I didn’t have time to waste. I couldn’t let anything happen to you.”
You smile at him, ignoring how your cheeks are warming up against the crisp nighttime air. You’re touched by Poe’s statement. Grateful that you’ve crossed paths with someone like him. Who else would be this reckless and determined to dive into an impromptu rescue—or insane enough to risk their life to save yours?
The thought has your heart feeling tender, but you can’t get caught up in it at this moment. You and Poe need to make it out alive first. Fuck, now the nerves are starting to creep back in.
“Thank you. If we come back to the base both in one piece, dinner’s on me.”
“You mean when we get back,” he corrects. He holds his hand out for yours. “Deal. It’s a date. Alright, you ready?”
Poe’s question almost doesn’t register in your head after he refers to your dinner offer as a date. He doesn’t seem to be joking around. He sounds serious, and you don’t question it. You find yourself more than okay with calling it that.
Clearing your throat, you give Poe a slight nod, ready as you’ll ever be. Both of you have to get out of here alive. Your date depends on it.
Staying undetected as you move through the shadows was easy in the beginning. Few are out on patrol this evening, and when you do encounter someone, Poe manages to evade them. Surely this isn’t his first go-around at something like this.
You do your best not to allow your anxiety of getting caught to cause you to lose focus. The warmth of Poe’s hand in yours helps soothe you, an assurance that if anything goes wrong, you’re not alone.
When you spot your way out, relief floods over you. You tell yourself you’ll be home soon. That you’ll be back in your bed in no time, tucked under the covers, safe and sound. No longer would you be fearing for your life in the way you are right now.
You’re nearly there— the clearing is just within sight. Less than a hundred yards away more and…
Sirens suddenly blare. So loud that they ring in your ears and leave you disoriented for several seconds. The quiet of the night quickly descends into chaos as guards pour out from every which way. The radioed orders your ears pick up are clear and bone-chilling: they are searching for you, and if found, they want you gone permanently.
“There you are, scum,” a trooper snarls from behind, weapon pointed at you. They’re about to pull down on the trigger, but Poe reacts much quicker. The blaster in his hand fires, and the man instantly drops to the ground.
You barely have time to process what happened when Poe grasps your hand tightly, holding onto it uncomfortably tight, but his touch is grounding. The two of you share a knowing look as the sound of distant voices and heavy footsteps grow closer.
“We gotta keep moving. Shoot anyone who’s chasing after us, got it?” He says, his voice a blur over the erratic pounding of your heart.
Poe doesn’t wait for your acknowledgment. He makes a mad dash towards the gate leading out of the compound. He wasn’t lying when he said he was not a shit shot, taking down a few men with such ease— they were no match for him.
Luck seems to be on your side tonight. The moment Poe tugs you past the gate, you run across the field and into the woodlands as fast as possible, the fastest you’ve ever moved. Your muscles are sore, and your head is dizzy. It feels like you can’t get enough air in your lungs.
Still, you run. You run and run, even if you’re starting to think that your legs will give out at any moment. You have to get as far away as you can from the place that has kept you captive. It’s your best bet if you want to survive.
Finally, Poe’s ship comes into view. He glances behind you, and you mirror his action, seeing that the guards have lost track of you in the dark. The relieved smile on your face remains for only a split-second, however. As soon as you turn your head back, you see the stormtrooper emerge from the thick bushes, aiming to shoot at an unsuspecting Poe.
It’s like everything is in slow motion. From you realizing that Poe is in imminent danger to the way you forcefully push him out of the line of fire and draw your blaster.
Adrenaline buzzes through your veins. Your chest rapidly rises and falls. You steady your hand even as it fights to tremble. Without thinking twice, you fire your weapon. The first shot narrowly misses the enemy, but the following two blasts hit them fatally, and they slump to the ground, unmoving.
Luck truly is on your side tonight.
You gasp a breath in surprise when a pair of solid arms suddenly wrap around you, your nerve endings still on high alert after all that has transpired.
Poe’s gentle voice saying your name cuts through your foggy mind, and you meet his gaze. Your heartbeat continues to drum sharply against your ribcage as you stare at him for several moments, tracing the deep, worried lines etched on his face.
You don’t know what comes over you after. You’re unaware of what you’re doing until you’re right in the middle of it.
One second, you’re holding onto Poe—feeling some of the tension in your body seep out upon seeing that he’s okay, he’s unharmed— and the next, your lips are on his, soft and warm. Exactly the way you had imagined they would feel.
Poe doesn’t kiss you back right away; it is the only thing that snaps you out of this haze. Have you misread him all this time? He’s a major flirt, but you thought he was genuine with you. A knot of confusion and embarrassment forms in your stomach. How could you be so wrong? How could you have fucked things up?
You immediately pull away, taking a few stumbling steps back. Poe looks at you wide-eyed, mouth slightly open, but he doesn’t say a word. You glance down at your feet, not wanting to see his expression as you fumble out an apology.
“I-I’m sorry, Poe. I don’t know… I was just—”
You are interrupted when Poe lets out a breathless chuckle. He closes the short distance you had put between the two of you, his hands cupping your face, fingers stroking your cheeks ever so gently.
“Don’t be sorry,” he whispers. “I wasn’t expecting you to do that. It did feel very nice, though.”
Poe’s breath fanning warm over your skin causes yours to hitch. Before you can respond, he slowly leans in and recaptures your lips in a sweet kiss. Your heart stutters and skips for a whole new reason now. Something more electrifying replaces the fight or flight sensation surging within you, making you light-headed in the best possible way.
The kiss abruptly ends at the sound of dried leaves rustling and branches snapping from different directions. You notice faraway lights becoming brighter, no doubt more stormtroopers closing in on you and Poe.
“I’d like to keep kissing you, but we gotta go,” he laughs, nodding towards the ship. “The sooner we get back, the sooner we can go on our date.”
You grin in agreement and place your hand into Poe’s hand. Being with him makes you feel alive, like you can handle almost anything the universe throws at you. You could get used to this.
“Take me home, flyboy.”
“Y/N, I’m telling you. Mark was totally checking me out today!”
Heejin’s muffled voice rings through your phone’s speaker. You lay on your bed on your stomach, your legs kicking through the air. Your fingers find themselves wrapped up in the cord—a habit that you’ve grown to have after receiving a personal landline for your room—as she goes on and on about her ‘encounters’ with her crush today.
“Are you sure it had nothing to do with the highlighter pink tracksuit you wore today?” you giggle out.
“I don’t get your problem with them. Why won’t you just let me buy you one?”
Juicy Couture. It’s a big trend nowadays to have at least one full tracksuit from one of the biggest fashion brands. Heejin has subjected herself to the lifestyle of living out her celebrity fantasy in the brand, buying one of almost every color offered with the money her parents give her, but you don’t see the appeal. Not to mention the fabric. Just the idea of having velvet on your body has your spine tingling. It’s the same feeling as running your fingernails along the chalkboard while trying to complete the math problem your teacher set up on the board. Definitely not a feeling you constantly want to have.
“I’d rather not look like I’ve come out of the Teen Beat magazine. Plus velvet is not my thing.”
You can practically hear her roll her eyes at you, curled eyelashes threatening to touch her pencil-thin eyebrows.
“First of all, it’s Tiger Beat. And second of all, I’m sure pretty boy Jisung wouldn’t mind seeing you in velour.”
“Y/N! Get off the phone. I need to use the computer.”
You groan into the receiver. Why does your mom have to step in at the worst times?
“Sounds like that’s my time to go. Consider my offer would ya? I’ll see you at school tomorrow?”
You chuckle lightly at her pleading. You can picture her face; a pout forming on her bubblegum pink lips and her big puppy dog eyes she gives you whenever she wants you to do anything for her.
“Yeah. I’ll think about it.” No you won’t. “Maybe I’ll IM you later if I’ve got time.”
“Okay! TTYL!”
You wish her goodbye before setting the phone back on its base. Planting your face into your bed sheets, you sigh. When is she ever going to give up on making you look so expensive?
You also regret ever telling her about your crush on your other best friend. She is always so adamant that she knows what Jisung would or wouldn’t like. She barely even knows the boy, only knowing his face and name from the times she had seen you together at school—not to mention the numerous amount of times you’ve complained about your crush on him—and you’d like to keep it that way. Who knows what chaos she’d create if they knew each other more.
Rolling onto your back, you push yourself off from your bed. It’s only 4 in the afternoon. What are you going to do with yourself now? You find yourself slowly making your way to the kitchen. You’re not particularly hungry, but maybe looking through the fridge will give you an idea.
Your mom turns to look at you from the family computer after hearing you walk into the room. The dial-up noise coming from it is nothing but white noise at this point. It had been odd at first when your parents bought the internet when you were younger, but now that you’re older, you barely even recognize it’s there anymore.
“You know, when we got that phone, that didn’t mean that you could use it all the time.” She laughs lightly, but you know that it’s become an annoyance at some point for both of your parents. “Go out and see your friends for once!”
“But mom…”
She holds up a finger to her lips before turning back to face the screen.
“No buts. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got to answer some e-mails for work. Maybe go see if Jisung’s free. He paged about you earlier.”
You huff, changing your course of direction from the fridge to the front door. Nothing you say will change her mind.
“Fine.”
Han Jisung. The boy who grew up with you just a few doors down. Though you lived close, you didn’t become friends until the third grade when he stood up for you to a bully from an older grade. It was then, when you had milk spilled all over the front of your favorite clothes, when Jisung pushed the older girl to the ground (albeit by accident), when he had to sit in for recess the rest of the week, that you wanted to get to know him more. The two of you had been in the same classes since kindergarten, but neither had bothered to approach the other. You weren’t the most outgoing of kids and it seemed like he wasn’t either. So when he turned to you after having pushed the bully with a big smile on his face, you wondered why you and him never spoke to each other. He ended up being the one to walk you to the nurse's office in search of a new set of clothes to wear for the rest of the day, despite the two teachers monitoring the cafeteria telling him to stay and apologize.
Since then, you and Jisung were attached at the hip. Wherever you went, he was invited and vice versa. When you were younger, the two of you would often have sleepovers, switching between the two houses. Both of your parents found it adorable that you wanted to spend so much time together, at least until middle school when your parents finally put a stop to it. You always asked them why you couldn’t have sleepovers anymore, but they would brush you off with a simple ‘because’. That didn’t stop either of you from sneaking out and hanging out in the backyard overnight every so often.
Eventually, both yours and Jisung’s parents let it all go when they realized they couldn’t stop you. They let you have your sleepovers again a year or two later, with the catch that you don’t sleep on the same bed. Weird request you thought, but you didn’t mind the air mattress they would set up in his room.
Stepping up the porch, you reach out to knock on the door. As if she had been anticipating your arrival, Jisung’s mom opens up the door before you can do anything. She sends you a sweet smile.
“Hi, Mrs. Han. Is Jisung home?”
She gestures for you to step inside.
“Oh, Y/N! It’s good to see you! Come on in, he’s up in his room.”
After slipping your shoes off, you make your way to Jisung’s room, knowing the direction by heart after having done it since you were ten. His mom had already beat you up the stairs, pushing his door open with a whine of protest coming from inside. You giggle at the sound.
“Sweetheart, Y/N’s here for you.”
As quickly as his mom did a minute prior, Jisung is standing in his doorframe with a wide smile on his face. The door slams against the wall after having been thrown open by the boy in front of you. You both wince slightly, Jisung sending a slightly apologetic glance at his mom. She only laughs, shaking her head as she begins to walk back towards the stairs.
“Hi,” he manages to squeak out.
“Hey.”
His mom looks back at the two of you.
“I’ll bring you guys some snacks in a little.”
“Thanks, mom,” Jisung responds, grabbing a hold of your arm. “Come on in.”
Your eyes take in the scenery. It’s the same room he’s always had, with the exception of the decor changing over the years, but every time you come over, you always find something new. Like the large band poster next to his window. Or the new hoodie hanging up on the back of his door. Not to mention the large pile of cassette tapes on his already over-crowded desk.
“Wow. I didn’t realize you had this many tapes.”
You walk towards the desk, turning to glance at your best friend as he kicks what you think is a pair of underwear under his bed. His face grows pink when he looks back up at you when he sees that you were already staring at him.
“Oh yeah.” He clears his throat. “I dug them out of my parent’s boxes in the attic the other day. Found some classics.”
You nod. Taking another look at the pile, you gesture towards it.
“Do you mind?”
“Go ahead.”
You begin rummaging through the pile. There are a lot of bands that you know of, but there are some that you are much less familiar with. Maybe you can convince Jisung to let you borrow some of them. Jisung ends up beside you, going through the pile as well, making funny remarks about some of the band names, and recreating the music with his mouth, making you both fall into bits of laughter. Eventually you reach the bottom of the pile. A single cassette from the band Radiohead sits on his desk. You gasp.
“This is my favorite band.”
Jisung whips his body around to fully face you. His eyes are wide and sparkly, jaw dropped slightly at the new information. Another thing to add on his ‘Why I Like Y/N’ list.
“You like them, too?”
“Yeah! I listened to them a lot cause of my parents. So I just grew to like them a lot.”
The two of you spend the rest of the afternoon discussing any topic that comes to mind until you’re both called down for dinner.
Tumblr media
“Follow.”
Heejin appears seemingly out of nowhere, tugging on your arm. You have half the mind to slam your locker closed before she can pull you any further.
“Wait. Where are we going?”
She doesn’t say anything as she eventually rounds a corner with you in tow, pulling you into the girl’s bathroom. Heejin places you in front of one of the sinks.
“Stand here.”
“What are you doing?”
Still no response. She sets her backpack on the edge of the sink, zipping it open, and pulling out a large bag. You recognize the bag as her emergency makeup kit she keeps in her locker. ‘You never know when you might need to impress a boy’ she told you when she showed it to you the first time.
Your eyes widen. Stepping back as much as you can without bumping into the girl at the next sink over, you put your hands up in an attempt to stop Heejin if she comes any closer to you. Of course, you’re not a stranger to makeup, having tried to get into it yourself your first year in high school. But when Jisung came over unexpectedly and snorted at the job you did, effectively shattering your new dream to be a makeup artist, you decided to give up. He did apologize the next day, offering to help you with what little knowledge he has after seeing his mom do it over the years.
“Oh no. You are not putting makeup on my face.”
“Oh come on!” Heejin whines, pulling out the eyeliner from her bag. “I’m trying to do you a favor! I overheard Lia talking with Haechan who said that she heard from Felix that Yeji said that Jisung is totally into this! Now close your eyes.”
She reaches out to grab your face with one hand, the other ready to draw on your eyelid. Without another thought, you step back. The girl behind you shrieks. You quickly spin around after hearing something clanking against the porcelain, only to see that her lipstick is smudged against her cheek. She shares a fiery look with you, reaches in the sink to grab her—now broken—lipstick, snatches her purse from the counter and storms out of the bathroom. You manage to mutter out a couple ‘sorry’s before she’s gone only to hear a sigh and a quiet ‘dramatic much?’ coming from your best friend.
Heejin doesn’t give you time to process what has happened in the last two minutes, pulling your face closer to hers in an attempt to continue her work before the first morning bell rings. You manage to grab the eyeliner from her just before it touches your face.
“Hold the phone! I’m not sure that this is a good idea.”
She sighs, dropping her hand.
“Well, you like Jisung, right?”
“Yeah, but-”
“Well then this will totally make him fall for you!” she yells with a smile taking over her face. Her voice echoes against the bathroom walls as she grabs a hold of your wrists instead and gives them a shake.
“I appreciate the thought, but I don’t think anything we do will make him like me back.” You push away from Heejin and hand her the eyeliner. You don’t dare look into her eyes, knowing that you’ll eventually fall into her trap and believe that makeup is the right course of action. “I’m not his type.”
“Fine.”
Heejin reaches into her makeup bag one more time. She pulls something out, takes your hand in her free one and holds it open, places the object in the center of your palm, then closes your fingers around it before you have a chance to look. She pats your hand with a warm smile.
“Take this at least. Who knows when it might come in handy.”
With one last wink, she stuffs the makeup bag back into her backpack and skips out of the bathroom. The first bell rings seconds after she leaves you there. You sigh, realizing that you still have to go back to your locker before walking all the way across the school to your first class. You’ll be late if you don’t leave now.
Curious, you glance at the object Heejin gave you as you walk out to the bustling hallway. Strawberry flavored tinted chapstick. Come in handy? Maybe when I have chapped lips. Not… whatever she was thinking about.
Tumblr media
You sigh quietly.
“You okay?”
Something hits the side of your face, effectively pulling you out of your contemplative state. You glance down at your desk to see a wadded up ball of lined paper. Turning your head, you find Jisung lying on your bed, textbooks and notebooks spread around him, a eyebrow quirked up in slight worry.
The two of you are studying for some end-of-term tests coming up. Though, you can’t seem to focus very much. For the past four days, Heejin has tried to get you to go along with her scheming to get you and Jisung together, much to your dismay. If you are going to experience heartbreak—which you won’t if you just don’t tell him—you’d rather it be when you’re being yourself.
“Huh? Oh. Yeah. Just spacing.”
Jisung tilts his head with a smile.
“Care to share what’s in that big brain of yours?”
“It’s nothing.” you sigh, leaning back in your chair. “Just (bff) trying to make me change the way I am for the guy I like.”
“You like someone?”
Shit. You didn’t mean for that part to slip out. You turn back to face your notes, hiding the heat on your cheeks from him as much as possible.
“Yeah, but that’s a conversation for another day. Where were we at?”
“Oh, um… I think I’m done studying for today.” He slams his textbooks closed. “You wanna hit the park?”
“Sure.”
Rushing down the stairs of your home, you manage to greet your mom before throwing your shoes on haphazardly, Jisung doing the same. The moment you step out of the house, Jisung is already down the porch and running through the driveway. He turns back with a bright smile on his face, sticking his tongue out at you.
“Last one to the playground is a rotten egg!”
“That’s not fair! You’re already ahead of me!”
You try to run fast enough, but it’s no use trying to catch up with him at this point. Though he wasn’t one for sports, Jisung was quite the runner. He could beat out at least half of the track team if he wanted to.
The park isn’t a far walk from where you live, only a couple blocks down, but it’s far enough to get you winded quickly. Jisung takes notice of this, pausing in his brisk pace to let you catch up so you can walk the rest of the way together. It’s always been like this; him starting a race with you only to scrap that plan to make sure that you’re fine. It usually backfires on him though, when you pretend to get injured or way too out of breath, gaining pity from him before you take off sprinting the rest of the way to the playground.
This time, you both walk together to the swingset at the far end of the park. As much as you wanted to run around on the playground, there was a child’s birthday party going on. Too many tiny bodies to watch out for. As you make your way to the swings, Jisung’s hand brushes against yours. You glance to where your hand is at your side. Maybe if you concentrated enough, he would get your mind messages telling him to just take your hand in his if that was his intention. Instead, you play it off as the two of you just walking a little too close to the other.
Jisung points at you and then to the first open swing. You take a seat, watching as he steps behind you. He pulls on the chains as hard as possible to pull you back before letting go and shoving you forward by your lower back. This elicits a squeaky giggle from you as you start to swing your legs to keep the momentum going. Jisung joins you on the swing beside you, running back and jumping up onto the swing to get himself going. It takes a moment, but the two of you eventually fall into rhythm with the other, swinging in tandem.
“So do I know him?” Jisung asks after a few minutes.
“Know who?”
You turn your head to stare at him quizzically. You know what he’s asking you about, but you try to feign innocence, hoping to stray away from this conversation as quickly as possible. Who knows what else you could accidentally let slip. Jisung doesn’t bother to glance your way.
“The guy you like.”
“Oh. Um… no. He’s in my chem class.”
“Wow. The one class we don’t have together.”
You’re sure that that comment wasn’t meant for you to hear, but you respond anyway.
“Yeah, what a coincidence, huh?”
“Yeah.”
It’s quiet between the two of you for a moment. The only sounds around you being the happy screams of the children on the playground and the squeaking of the swingset as you continue moving. You clear your throat.
“Do- Do you like anyone?”
Jisung takes a moment to answer. He stares at the ground, hoping that it’ll swallow him whole. The air between the two of you feels much more awkward than it did before he brought up the conversation.
“Um.. yeah,” he mumbles. “She’s in my coding class.”
“Oh.” You don’t like that answer.
“Yeah.”
A small group of children run over towards you and Jisung. They look at the both of you expectantly, hoping to take a turn on the limited number of swings. A few of the parents call out to them to ask nicely—which they do, thankfully—while you give Jisung a tilt of your head towards the street. He gives you a small nod in return. You dig your feet into the wood chips beneath you, dragging you to a stop, and pushing yourself off the seat. The children screech out quick ‘thank you’s to both you and Jisung when the swings are finally free.
Other than the rowdy kids on the playground, the neighborhood is pretty quiet. Cars roll by every once in a while, pulling into driveways, pulling out of them, or turning down other streets. You’ve always considered your neighborhood a decently safe place, what with all of the older couples that live on your street.
Side by side, you and Jisung walk around the neighborhood without a destination in mind. You found yourself doing this often when you needed a break from everything, walking around with nothing but your thoughts running through your mind, and your best friend by your side. It was very freeing. You and Jisung have an unspoken agreement that when either of you need to take a step back, you do it together. Mostly for safety reasons, Jisung mentioned, as neither of you want to meet your fate at such a young age. Despite the calmness of the area, there still are constant crazy drivers that don’t pay attention, or just don’t care enough to follow the rules of the road completely. Plus, both of your parents would go ballistic if they knew you were out so late without someone by your side.
Finally feeling the tension fall from your shoulders, you turn to the boy beside you.
“So what are your plans for after graduation?”
He hums.
“Mom wants me to go to college.”
“But you don’t?”
“I don’t know.” Jisung shrugs. His gaze drops down to the sidewalk, kicking at a couple pebbles that are in his path. “I mean, going to college would mean leaving here. And I like it here.”
You hum agreeingly. You liked the people around you. You liked having him around. And being in a place where Jisung wasn’t is something you hope to never experience.
“I know what you mean. It would be weird not seeing you everyday. Not that you’re the only thing I’d miss!”
Throwing your hands up in defense, you watch for his reaction. Jisungs laughs. He turns his full attention to you, offering you a small smile.
“Yeah. I’m sure you could get into any school you wanted with your grades. Go across the country- the world, even.”
You roll your eyes.
“Okay, I’m not that smart.”
“But you are! I think I heard that you’ll be valedictorian!”
“No way,” you scoff. “There are so many other people that would be considered for that before I am.”
“You’re just blind.”
“And you're just a computer nerd.”
Jisung gasps. He freezes midstep, staring at you wide eyed, jaw dropped, and a smile teasing the corners of his lips.
“Take that back!”
“Nope!” You stick your tongue out at him, sprinting as far ahead of him as you can. You turn enough to see that he’s still standing where you left him, an amused expression taking over his features. You cup your hands around your mouth, yelling out to him. “Gotta catch me first if you want me to!”
You can hear the hearty laugh he lets out as you turn back to run again. You want to turn back around. To see the way his head tilts back in pure joy. To see him almost throw himself to the ground in a fit of laughter. To see the competitive look in his eyes as he finally composes himself enough to realize how much of a head start you got. Yet, the adrenaline running through you right now forces you to push forward. It makes your heart race as you begin to hear the rushed footsteps of your best friend closing in behind you quickly. It makes your mind run a million miles a second with the thoughts of what he’ll do and say when he catches you. And when he finally reaches you, grasping onto your waist in an attempt to stop you, you both trip over each other, falling towards the grassy patch beside you. This is a moment you never want to forget; the two of you falling into tear-inducing laughter, basking in the warmth of the setting sun, arms pressed against each other as you try to regain your breath.
A loud slam against the lockers beside yours startles you.
“Y/N! Finally found you!”
Head turning to look at the source of the noise, you find Heejin with her hand stuck out, palm flat against the lockers. She’s out of breath, you notice. You stare at her quizzically before turning back to your open locker to grab the textbook you need for your next class.
“I’m where I always am. What are you talking about?”
“Whatevs.” Heejin takes a deep breath, pulling the book out from your hands and sticking it back in your locker. She grabs hold of your hands. “I need you to come to the roller rink tonight.”
“What for?”
You try to shake her off, but her desperate grip keeps you from moving much.
“I’ve got a date and I need you to be there as my support.”
“But Jisung and I were gonna have a movie marathon tonight.”
At the mention of your other best friend, Heejin’s eyes begin to sparkle. You can’t tell if it’s because of her sparkly blue eyeshadow or the fluorescent lights above you, but you know that look. She speaks up again before you have the chance to talk her out of whatever she’s thinking.
“Bring him along! We’ll make it a double date!” Her bright smile shifts into more of a smirk. “It’ll give you an excuse to hold haaannds.”
You sigh.
“I don’t know. You know I’m not good at roller skating.”
“Even more reason to have someone to hold onto. Come on, do it for me, please?”
There it is. The puppy eye look. She uses it whenever she wants to get her way—which is way too often in your case. You can’t help but groan, eyes closing as you tip your head back slightly. You frown at her, defeated.
“Fine. You owe me.”
“Yes, yes, yes!” Finally, Heejin lets go of your hands only to throw her arms around your shoulders to pull you into a tight hug. “You’re the best! I’ll come over after school to get ready!”
With another squeal of excitement, she turns around and takes off running in the direction she came from. You can hear a hall monitor yell out at her to slow down, making you chuckle lightly.
“Why was she all excited?”
Your heart seems to lurch out of your ribcage. Do you have a ‘scare me’ sign taped to your back or what? Turning to face the new voice with wide eyes and your hand clutching at your chest, you let out a sigh of relief when you find Jisung standing behind you. His words slowly click in your brain and you shake your head.
“Oh! Um, could we maybe move our movie night to tomorrow?”
Jisung’s expression morphs into one of concern. His eyes begin to scan your body, probably looking for any physical injuries—yet, the way his eyes slowly comb over your figure makes the heat rise to your cheeks.
“Are you feeling okay?”
“Yeah! Yeah, I just- Heejin wants me to come with her to the rink tonight cause she’s got a date and needs support.”
You turn back to your locker, pulling out the textbook once more. From the corner of your eye, you can see Jisung physically deflating, dropping his shoulders slightly, and playing with his fingers.
“Oh okay. Yeah, I guess I’ll see you tomorrow then?”
“Weeeellll, then I said that we were doing stuff, so she suggested that I bring you and I agreed. But we don’t have to go if you don’t want to go! I can still cancel with her.”
Your gaze meets his when he hums in thought. Cute, you think. His cheeks are puffed out as a small pout plays on his lips. When his eyes travel back to meet yours, he gives you a wide grin.
“I would actually like to go. There’s the arcade there, so if we get tired of skating around, then we can go play games.”
“I’m good with that.”
Jisung matches your soft smile with one of his own.
Students rush past the both of you, turning into their respective classrooms. Jisung glances at his watch. He turns to your locker, helping you grab out the last few things you needed for your next few classes, before shutting it for you. He takes your backpack from your hands and throws it over his shoulder, then takes your wrist and gently tugs you in the direction of your classroom.
“We should probably get to class. Don’t want Ms. Kim to get on our tails.”
“Don’t you think you're thinking too hard about this?”
You cross your arms in front of your chest, watching as Heejin packs on more makeup at your small vanity in the corner of your bedroom. She’s been sitting there for the past hour trying to perfect her look as you resorted to sitting on the edge of your bed. She swipes the brush of her lip gloss over her lips once more before shoving it back into the tube, twisting it closed, and slamming it on the tabletop while turning to face you. Her eyes are bright—not only just because of the vibrant purple eyeshadow—and smile wide.
“I’m finally going on a date with Mark. I think that this is still not enough! But who are you to say? You don’t even look ready.”
“What do you mean?” You pout, glancing down at what you are wearing. “I think my outfit is nice.”
It’s nothing super fancy. Unlike Heejin’s skater skirt with a flowy blouse, you threw on a simple pair of baggy jeans and a band tee. You figured that if you were going to be hanging around Jisung the entire time, you didn’t need to dress up. What would be the point if he’s already seen you with your hair stuck in all sorts of different positions after waking up after a full night of gaming together?
Heejin scoffs, rolling her eyes at you.
“Yeah, nice if you're going to your mom’s work party, not for a date to the roller rink. Gag.”
“Well, what do you suggest I wear then?”
Her smile grows grim. The expression vaguely reminds you of that creepy green mask movie you saw a few years ago, whatever the name of it is.
“I know just the thing.”
Heejin shoots up from her chair, rushing straight over to your closet. She reaches into the back, scanning through the things you’ve tucked away—for good reason. She gasps lightly when she finds what she’s looking for. Pulling the item out, your eyes widen.
“No. Nope. No way.”
“Oh come on, Y/N, live a little!” She shakes the strappy little black dress in her hands. “If you weren’t ever gonna wear this, why do you even have it in your closet?”
“Maybe because it’s actually yours? You left it here a couple weeks ago when you slept over and never took it back.”
She stares at the dress, brows furrowing in thought.
“Oh, right!”
Sighing, you push yourself off from your bed. You, too, fish through the back of your closet with one item in mind. You pull it out, raising a brow in Heejin’s direction. It’s a red bandana top, one that you bought last year with the intention of wearing it. But after taking it home, you stuck it in the back of your closet, losing your confidence that you had while trying it on. It’s something you never thought you’d like and buy, but you had seen it while walking around the mall with Jisung, and he insisted on you trying it on when he noticed you looking at it. Maybe today was the right time to wear it out.
“How about I wear this? I can pair it with butterfly clips and my jean jacket. The one with the patches?”
“Ugh.” Heejin rolls her eyes. Her shoulders drop in defeat. “That’s at least better than what you’re wearing now.”
From downstairs, the sound of the doorbell echoes through your home. Your eyes widen, and you turn to look at the clock on your wall. 5:45, the time you told Jisung to be here so the three of you could go to the roller rink together.
“That’s probably Ji. Can you go get it?”
You raise the hand holding the top, giving her the message that you still need to finish getting ready. Heejin nods.
“Sure.”
She collects her makeup from your vanity, stuffing them in the purse she brought, and heads out of your room towards the front door. She pulls your door closed most of the way. You don’t bother to shut it completely. Rather, you quickly pull your band tee off, throw the bandana top on and throw yourself back towards the closet to pull out your jean jacket.
You can hear shuffling from outside your room at this point, but you don’t pay any mind to it. You walk over to your vanity, grabbing a couple butterfly clips from one of the glass jars on the tabletop, and lean over enough to see yourself in the mirror.
“Wow.”
Your eyes widen. Catching his gaze from the mirror, you whip yourself around to find Jisung standing in your doorway. His eyes carefully take in your look as you put the clips in your hair, now having a better view.
“Oh, hi.”
“I told you to get her, not ogle her,” Heejin whines as she pops into view from behind Jisung. “Now, come on! Mark is going to be there soon!”
Jisung stares at her quizzically as she makes her way back downstairs before glancing at you with the same expression. You chuckle, shaking your head.
“She’s just excited.”
It doesn’t take long for the three of you to make it to the rink. With Heejin having her own car, you manage to get there before 6, the time that her and Mark agreed on. Granted, she did speed for the majority of the ride, making you and Jisung clutch on to the ‘oh shit’ handles provided. How she got her driver’s license, you’re not sure.
By the time you get there, Mark is waiting outside the entrance. Heejin gasps excitedly and runs to meet up with him. You have to admit you were worried when you first heard about the date. You didn’t know much about the guy, only learning little bits of information each time Heejin gushed about the upperclassman. With the way she talked about him, you thought that he might be one of those playboys that’ll either one: ask you out on a date then stand you up, or two: take you on a date, screw you, and then toss you back into the sea with the rest of the unlucky fish. Though, the moment when his eyes notice her, his face morphs into a soft gaze with a smile playing on his lips. This eased your worries. Of course, you were still going to keep an eye out for her, ready to pull her out of any awkward or bad situation.
Heejin and Mark make their way inside with you and Jisung following a few paces behind to give them some space. After paying for your skates—which Jisung vehemently argued that he will pay for everything tonight, despite you being the one to ask him to come—you head over to the main rink area. The overhead lights are dim, allowing the various neon lights around the walls and the spotlights on the rink to color the room. The disco balls hanging over you scatter the colored light, temporarily blinding you the moment a beam of light hits your eyes. Some of the popular songs from this year play loudly, drowning out the noise of the crowd inside. You and Jisung find an empty bench on the outskirts of the rink and set your stuff down.
“You wanna skate?” Jisung almost yells, trying to speak up over the noise.
“I don’t know. I’m not that great at it.”
He can see your hesitation. Sure, you came to the roller rink, a place known for roller skating, but you weren’t confident in your lack of skills. You really only came because you wanted to support your friend and her newfound love life.
“That’s okay.” Jisung smiles, thought it almost looks more like a playful smirk from your angle. “I’ll be there to catch you if you fall.”
“Fine. But if you don't, you get to buy me ice cream after this.”
Jisung thinks about your proposition for a moment. If he was going to offer to pay for whatever you do tonight, you might as well take advantage of it. His smile turns into a wide grin. He nods his head once.
“Deal.”
The two of you finally make it out on the floor after a good ten minutes. Who knew putting on roller skates would be such a hassle? Luckily Jisung had noticed your struggle, offering to tie your laces for you. You would be lying if you said that that action didn’t make you feel anything. Especially after he had patted your ankle and looked up at you with such a heartwarming smile when he was done.
Pushing yourself up carefully from the bench, you stumbled your way to where Jisung stood on the floor.
“Here, hold my hands.”
He holds out his hands to you, helping you over the small lip separating the carpet and the wooden floor. Pulling you along the outside ring of the rink, you glide around the room, getting a feel for how to skate a little more. Jisung stays in front of you the entire time, skating backwards.
“How are you so good at this?” You giggle, watching as he almost bumps into a couple little kids messing around on the floor. Though, he maneuvers the both of you with ease around them.
“Honestly, I don’t even know. I thought I’d fall by now too,” he joins in with his own giggles.
You and Jisung skate around like that for a while longer. Heejin and Mark manage to pass by you a couple of times. She throws you suggestive looks, wiggling her eyebrows when she is out of Jisung’s line of sight. You respond by sticking your tongue out at her. Jisung laughs when he catches on the third time it happens.
Eventually, you don’t pay attention to the couple, focusing on the jokes that Jisung throws at you. They’re terrible, you note. Most of them are the classic dad jokes everyone’s dads tell on the daily. Slowly, Jisung moves from skating in front of you to skating beside you, still having a hold of one of your hands.
“See, you got it. I’m gonna let go now.”
You turn to look at him wide-eyed.
“No, wait! Jisung! Don’t!”
You’re still not completely ready to be left on your own, and it’s evident in the way that you panic the moment he lets go of your hand. You’re fine for a moment until you trip over your own skate. Stumbling forward, you can’t get your feet back in control. The moment you feel yourself falling forward, you close your eyes and hold out your arms to at least try to lessen the fall.
Yet, you don’t feel the cold floor beneath your fingers.
Slowly opening your eyes, you look up to see Jisung standing in front of you. His eyes meet you in a state of worry before they relax into a relieved look. Your hands clutch at his shirt. His arms are around your waist, holding you against him in order to keep you from falling. The two of you roll into one of the barrier walls on the edge on the rink, Jisung letting out a quiet ‘oof’ when his back hits it. He leans down, closer to your face, and you’re glad that it’s as dim as it is.
“I told you I’d catch you,” he whispers near your ear.
You gulp. Blinking rapidly, you push yourself off of him. He keeps a hold of your waist to keep you steady.
“Um, I think we should do the arcade now.”
Tick.
Tick.
Tick.
Tick.
You groan, dropping your head onto your desk. Whoever was throwing stuff at your window has become increasingly annoying. You have a feeling you know who it is, considering you’ve been ignoring Jisung for these last three days. It was easy when it was a weekend that you didn’t have anything to do. So staying at home to study and play video games was the easiest way you could get around talking to the boy. You didn’t even go to school today, convincing your parents that you felt sick and couldn’t go to school. Part of you felt guilty that you weren’t talking to him, but ever since what happened on Friday night, you can’t help but think that you’re pushing him away from his crush.
When the ticking doesn’t stop, you reluctantly get up and walk over to your window. Without checking who it was, you unlocked it and pushed the bottom half of your window up, sticking your head out. Bad idea. The moment your head is out the window, a pebble strikes you on the cheek.
“Jisung? Ow.”
The boy gasps, dropping the small gathering of pebbles he had. He dusts off his hands, and stares at you apologetically.
“Oh! Y/N! I’m sorry!”
“What are you doing?” You call out.
“I thought you died. It’s been a couple days since we went skating and you disappeared on me.”
Jisung shuffles his feet, kicking a few of the rocks around him. He drops his head and fiddles with his fingers.
“So you decided to throw pebbles at my window?”
“You didn’t read my IMs or answer the phone or the door.” He glances back up to you with a pout. “What happened to doing our movie night?”
“I told you, Ji. I wasn’t feeling well.”
His brows furrow, growing angrier at your words.
“You’re a liar and you know that. Are you mad at me? Did I do something wrong?”
“No,” you sigh. “Like I said. I’m just not feeling well. I’m going back to bed. I’ll see you tomorrow maybe.”
You don’t wait for him to respond. Pulling your head back into the comfort of your room, you reach up to push the window closed.
“Wait, Y/N!”
Tumblr media
“Girl, you look awful.”
“I feel awful,” you whine.
You lay back on Heejin’s bed, covering your eyes with your arm. She giggles lightly when she sees your distressed state.
“What’s with the long face?”
Moving your arm enough to be able to see her, you frown.
“I didn’t sleep last night.”
“Ooo.” She wiggles her eyebrows at you, smirking. “Stayed up all night on the phone with pretty boy?”
“No. More like questioning everything.”
Heejin’s smirk drops. She looks at you more curiously, tilting her head in confusion as she leans back on her hands.
“What do you mean? I thought everything was going great!”
“I don’t know!” You whine. Taking a deep breath, you quickly voice your thoughts. “The other week, I let it slip that I had a crush on someone, but he doesn’t know it’s him. And then I stupidly asked if he liked someone, and he said yes. Then at the rink, he helped me skate but eventually let me go and when I was about to fall, he caught me and it felt like we were the only ones on the floor.”
“Isn’t that good?” Heejin’s voice trails off.
“No! Cause he likes someone and now I feel like I’m gonna mess things up for the two of them!”
A loud laugh rips out from her throat. She throws herself backwards, clutching at her stomach. You are baffled. What about your unfortunate situation does she find so funny? It’s definitely not funny to you. Heejin’s laughter dies down after a minute, and she wipes an imaginary tear from under her eye.
“I can’t believe that you are the smartest in our school, but the dumbest when it comes to love.”
“Woah. Wait, love? I never said anything about love.”
Heejin’s eyes widen. She throws herself back into a sitting position. Grabbing onto your shoulders, she shakes you slightly with a wide grin.
“Are you kidding me? You tots have the hots for him!”
You groan, pushing her off of you. Throwing your arms back over your eyes, you pout.
“Jinnie, I don’t know what to do! I don’t even know if I’ll be able to see him after graduation anyways.”
“What are you going on about? Graduation isn’t even for a couple months, silly. You’re acting like your tamagotchi is dying.”
You shoot up, making Heejin lean back so as to not bump foreheads with you. Giving her the meanest glare you can manage.
“That’s still a sore subject.”
“Whatever. You’re such an idiot. He totally likes you! I saw it with my own two eyes at the rink!”
You roll your eyes, scoffing.
“It was dark and you were all over your date.”
“It’s truuuue,” she sing-songs. She pokes your shoulder. “You’re just too blind to see it yourself.”
“Well then, what do I do? I haven’t even said more than a sentence to him in the past week.”
You watch as Heejin’s face contorts into an evil smirk. Her chin drops slightly, causing the light to only hit her forehead and the top of her cheeks. She stares at you through her long lashes, a toothy grin plastered on her lips.
“Do you trust me?” she whispers.
“With that look? No.”
“Don’t worry. I know just how to fix this.”
Tumblr media
You applied your strawberry chapstick. For some reason, your lips have been much more dry this winter than the last. You’re glad that Heejin gave it to you, despite the fact that it makes your lips much more red than you would like. It’s come in handy a few too many times.
A cold breeze brushes past you. You tug your jacket tighter against your body, hoping that you can trap your body heat better. You wish you could contact Heejin, wanting to know what was taking her so long to come and get you. The two of you were supposed to go to the mall together and then to the drive-in theater, but she couldn’t come pick you up from your house for some odd reason. She insisted on meeting at the bus stop a couple blocks away from your home. You found it strange, but then again, your friendship with her is also strange. If you think about it, you honestly don’t even remember how you became friends.
When you finally hear the rumbling of an engine approaching you, you sigh.
“There you are. I’ve been waiting for half- Jisung?”
Sitting in the driver’s seat of an old beat up silver Honda Accord is none other than the boy you had been ignoring. He smiles lopsidedly, raising a hand to wave at you. He’s leaned over the passenger seat, probably from cranking the window down you assume.
“Hi.”
You walk up to the car, glancing around.
“Where’s Heejin?”
“She’s not coming.” He shrugs. “Said that Mark surprised her with a date.”
“Oh. Okay.”
He pushes himself upright, motioning for you to come closer. He unlocks the doors.
“Hop in.”
You slide into the passenger seat, albeit a little awkwardly. You quickly roll the window back up, or at least as fast as you can with how stiff the crank seems to be. Jisung shifts the car into first gear, pressing the gas as he releases the clutch. The start is a little rough, but once he gets used to the transitioning, it’s a smooth ride.
You glance around the space, taking note of the cassettes sitting in the center console. A jacket is haphazardly draped across the back seats, napkins shoved into the glove box, and a car freshener—a Little Trees Supernova one—hanging from the rearview mirror.
“Is this your car?”
You turn to look at Jisung. He taps along to the radio quietly playing, nodding his head at your question.
“Yeah. Got it recently.”
“It’s nice.”
He hums in response.
The moment you pull up to the drive-in theater, he turns to you. It’s the first time he’s looked at you since he picked you up. You sit in line, waiting for your turn to get to the ticket booth.
“So what movie did you wanna watch?”
“Um.. I heard that that Parent Trap remake came out recently.” Parent Trap? Really, Y/N? What are you thinking? “You think they’re still playing it?”
Jisung shrugs at your question, turning back to face forward, and pulls up as the line continuously moves.
“Let’s go see.”
Just to your luck, they are playing the remake. You aren’t sure if you should be glad or disappointed that they are, and that Jisung went along with your dumb idea. He pulls into a decent spot in the parking lot. Jisung reaches back behind you and your breath hitches. You’ve heard from other friends that this was an easy way to hook up with someone they’ve wanted for a while. Your heartbeat quickens. Did he bring you here just to hook up with you? That couldn’t be the case, could it? Would he stoop that low and ruin your friendship just to get into your pants? Does he even like you in that way? What about his crush? Oh god, you’re going to ruin his chances with his crush. Though, maybe a kiss or two wouldn’t hurt, right?
You shut your eyes. Whatever was about to happen, you were going to accept your fate.
“What are you doing?”
At Jisung’s chuckle, you open your eyes. He is staring at you with a brow raise. Glancing down towards his lap, you notice a plastic bag filled with all sorts of candy and treats. Oh. Clearing your throat, you shake your head.
The movie starts shortly after. You reach out to turn up the volume on Jisung’s radio, but he seems to have had the same idea. When your fingers touch, an electric shock runs through your hand. You both gasp at the jolt, bringing your hands back to your bodies. Jisung whispers a ‘sorry’ before reaching out to turn up the volume.
You can’t help but think that the awkward tension between the two of you is all because of you. You’ve now sat through the first half hour of the movie, quiet except for the few giggles you’ve both let out at the plotline. The snacks quickly diminish between you both, and soon you’re left with nothing but the tension. It’s too much to handle, now. You clear your throat, straightening up in your seat a little, and glance over at Jisung.
“Ji?” He hums. His head turns to you before his eyes do, but once you have his attention, you speak up again. “I’m, uh, sorry for ignoring you the past few days. I just- there’s been a lot on my mind.”
He tilts his head with a small pout and furrowed brows. He must not know what your talking about. But before you can explain any further, his eyes light up in recognition.
“Is this about what happened at the roller rink?”
You chuckle, scratching at the back of your neck.
“Yeah.”
He mouths an ‘oh’ and smiles sheepishly.
“I didn’t mean to make things awakward-”
“No! You didn’t!” you interrupt. “If anything, I did. I hope I didn’t make it harder for you to talk to your crush.”
You don’t want to see the look on his face when you mention his crush. You’re sure that whatever look he’ll give you will crush your already breaking heart. So you turn back to face the movie. If only you had kept your mouth shut like you had been.
“Oh. Yeah, it’s all fine. I was actually able to talk to her today.”
“Oh. That’s good.”
“Yeah,” he mutters, turning his own disappointed gaze back to the movie.
Tumblr media
“Heejin, what do I do? I think I just made things a lot worse.”
She groans through the phone.
“Let me get this straight. I set you up on a date with pretty boy, you two go watch the least romantic movie you could; then, in the middle of watching it, you apologize for ignoring the boy, it leads to you mentioning that you hope that you didn’t ruin his chances with his crush—who by the way I still think is you—and then, you two finish the movie in silence and he takes you home without even a hug goodbye?”
“It sounds even worse when you say it,” you mumble.
You hear her sigh on the other side of the line. You can picture her disappointed look, rubbing her hand across her forehead at the pure disbelief she’s feeling.
“I don’t even know what to do with you two anymore.”
You roll to lay on your back, fingers tangled in the phone cord. You let the phone rest on your shoulder, not bothering to keep it close to your ear. Staring up at the glow-in-the-dark stars on your ceiling—ones that you and Jisung stuck up there when you were younger—you pout.
“Maybe I’ll just live to be like the crazy cat lady that lives down the block,” you mutter.
“Nope. Not if I have a say in it. I think I’ve got an idea.”
“It’s no use. I’m just gonna mess it all up anyway like I have the past couple times.”
“Oh just you wait,” Heejin chuckles.
You frown, the crease between your eyebrows growing deeper.
“I don’t like that tone.”
“Y/N! Get off the phone! I need to use the computer!”
You groan. Why does your mom have to interrupt every single time? You haven’t even been on the phone for very long.
“Maaaan, your mom is a killjoy.”
“At least it’s not like the internet we had before,” you note. “That shit sucked.”
“You’ve got a point,” Heejin laughs.
“Y/N!” your mom yells, a little more aggravated this time.
“Give me a sec!” You quickly yell back, hoping that she won’t kill you for that. “Gotta go Jinnie. I’ll IM you later.”
“Bye!”
You get up to set the receiver back on the mount. Sighing, you plop back down on your bed. What are you going to do now? With the phones and computer out of use, you have nothing to do. You can’t go see Jisung, seeing as you started ignoring him again after the weird movie date night thing you had two nights ago. And you don’t have a way to get to Heejin’s place, though you’re sure that she’s got other family things she needs to take care of as usual.
Tick.
The sound is so quiet at first, that you think you’re imagining it. Maybe something just settled in your room and made a noise.
Tick.
Tick.
When it happens the third time, you whip your head to watch the window.
Tick.
A pebble taps against the glass. You immediately know who it is. Standing up once more, you make your way to your window. Looking down, you find Jisung below your window, a small pile of pebbles in his hand. He smiles and waves at you once he sees you’re there. He motions for you to open your window. You hold up a finger, signaling for him to wait, before you open it up.
“You’ve really gotta stop doing that,” you call down to him. “What are you even doing here?”
“Come down.”
“Why?”
Jisung groans. He’s a lot more adamant today than he was last time. If the way he crosses his arms in front of his chest and sits into his hip doesn’t tell you anything, then the deep tone of his voice when he talks again does.
“Just come down here. I wanna take you somewhere.”
The tingle that runs down your spine at his voice has your heart beating faster. Though, you don’t dare let it show how much it affects you. You hum, rolling your eyes.
“Fine.”
You shut your window, quickly grabbing a jacket before skipping out of your room. You can’t help but let the smile grow on your face at the thought of Jisung wanting to spend time with you even after you’ve pushed him away so much. Skipping a few steps down the stairs, you rush past the kitchen where your mom sits at the family computer, your dad sipping his morning coffee at the table with the Sunday newspaper in hand.
“Mom, Dad, I’ll be home later.”
“Okay, be safe,” you mom mumbles, distractedly.
Your dad only raises his mug towards you in greeting, keeping his attention on the paper.
You quickly slip on your shoes, yanking the front door open only to find Jisung already standing on the porch with a smile of his own gracing his lips. He leads you to his car, opening the door for you, and waits until you’re settled to close it for you. He rushes over to the driver’s side, starting the ignition, and peeling out of the neighborhood as quickly—and safely—as possible with excitement.
“So where are we going?”
Jisung glances at you, giving you a wink before turning back to face the road when you complain.
“You’ll see.”
You don’t pay much mind to the roads you’re taking. Rather, you watch out the window as the scenery passes by, glancing at Jisung every once in a while. He sings along to the radio, gesturing for you to join him in duets, which you gladly do, even if you know that you’re not as great of a singer as he is.
When he rolls up to a familiar location, you gasp.
“The roller rink?”
“Yeah.” He pulls into a parking spot, puts the car in park, and turns his body to face you. “I thought that maybe we could do a do-over.”
“What do you mean?”
Jisung’s hands are held out for you to take. After helping you with your skates, just like how he did the last time, he was adamant about wanting to skate around as much as your feet would allow.
There are much fewer people here than there were last time, mostly because you’re at the rink on a Sunday morning. You don’t mind the lack of bodies. It’s actually a lot more helpful for you as you’re not having to get out of the way of speeding children every few seconds. And once again, Jisung paid for your entry and skates. You’ll repay him somehow at some point, you swear.
“Come on,” he whines. “I won’t let you fall.”
Scoffing, you give Jisung an apprehensive look.
“You said that last time and look what happened.”
“I caught you, didn’t I?”
“Whatever,” you mutter, placing your hands in his.
Unlike last time, Jisung didn’t let go of your hands until you told him you think you were ready. Though, you were quick to grasp his hand again under the guise that you felt like you were going to fall again. If he saw through your lie, he didn’t say anything.
The two of you skated until you couldn’t feel your feet anymore. Jisung would skate ahead every once in a while, doing a spin, or something to show off. He did fall a couple times trying to show off a little too hard. It left the two of you in fits of laughter as when you would try to help him up, you would fall too. You missed this feeling. Why had you pushed him away for such petty reasons? You decide to not worry so much about the past few weeks, instead focusing on having a good time with your best friend. Whether he felt the same way about you or not.
When you arrive back in your neighborhood, you don’t want to go home so soon. Jisung suggests that you walk around the area, and you are happy to comply. The two of you talk about the most random topics, laughing with each other. As you walk, your hands brush against each other and Jisung eventually takes the initiative and grabs your hand in his.
“Today was fun,” you mention after walking around basking in the comfortable silence between the two of you.
“Definitely,” he hums. “But there’s still one thing that I wanted to do.”
“And what’s that?”
Jisung stops in his tracks. He turns to face you fully, causing you to do the same. You stare at him quizzically when he just looks at you. He squeezes your hand, tugging on it lightly to pull you closer. His other hand finds its place on your hip. He slips his hand under your band tee, his thumb stroking lightly at the skin just above your waistband, making the skin he touches tingle. You notice the way his eyes drift from yours to somewhere lower—your lips, you want to believe—lingering there for a moment before meeting your gaze again. Jisung leans in a little closer, watching for any signs of discomfort from you. When your eyes flutter closed, he takes it as a sign to lean in the rest of the way. His lips gently press against yours. You both sigh at the feeling, taking it a bit further and pressing against each other a little more. The kiss isn’t anything spectacular, but in that moment, you can only see him. Feel only him. The cold breeze does nothing to keep you from embracing the warmth his lips give you. When he pulls away from you, you try to chase after him with your eyes still closed. He giggles lightly and you open your eyes to see him lick his lips. He smiles.
“Mmm. You taste like strawberries.”
Strawberries? Oh right. You forgot that you put on chapstick a little earlier.
“Wait,” you gasp. You’re eyes are threatening to pop out of your skull at the realization of what just happened. “What about your crush? I’m not being pranked, right?”
Jisung sighs.
“You know, for being the smartest girl, you’re not that bright.” When you only stare at him confused and worried, he shakes his head. “I’m in love with an idiot.”
“Wait, you- I mean- I’m your-”
He leans in again, effectively shutting you up. This time, he lets go of your hand to hold onto the back of your head. Your hands find refuge against his chest as his lips dance with yours. You smile into the kiss, causing him to do the same. He pulls away once again, much to your disappointment. Though, he licks his lips again, his smile growing even bigger.
“I think my favorite flavor just became strawberry.”
You giggle, reaching into your pocket, pulling out the tube of strawberry flavored tinted chapstick. You wiggle it between the two of you.
“There’s more where that came from.”
Jisung throws his head back in laughter before bringing you in for another kiss.
You’ll have to thank Heejin for giving you the chapstick in the first place. As well as the company for making edible chapstick. You’re sure you’re going to be her for a while.
