Maybe this is controversial, but surely the most effective way of showing that you don’t like post +, far more than than any protest log offs, is to just not use the feature. Don’t implement it on your blog, and if anyone does use it on their blog, don’t pay for their posts, and even encourage others not to use it, if you want. Yeah it’s a kind of dumb feature, but people seem to be forgetting that its also entirely optional - none of the risks involved in monetising fan work or in giving tumblr access to your card details really matter if you just don’t do that and I’m sure that posts warning about it have been spread far enough that anyone who uses tumblr regularly enough to in theory be part of the demographic who would use monetisation features must know about it now. Tumblrs done a lot of updates over time that people dislike, and this is one of the few that are possible to just entirely ignore

OC Music Meme
I was tagged for this by @actualanxiousswampwitch ! Thank you & sorry it took so long, didn’t have time to write this out before I left for holiday stuff so here we go! I shall tag: @actualanxiousswampwitch (go on give us another one XD), @a-muirehen , @kyber-heart , @thedinalixlegacy (no pressure as always, I know I’m kinda late now sksjkshskhs!) and anyone else who wants to do this, yes, I promise I mean you!
Tumblr media
art is by @ ocellifera on deviantART! :D
Let’s do Aria this time, shall we! Since her playlist is the second-longest, and her and Vano’s ship playlist is the longest, we’ll have the most (probable options! Long post so goin’ under a cut. Additional TW’s for: drugs, alcohol, alcoholism, drug addiction and murder, in case I’ve forgotten to add it to the song-specific sections. If you click past this cut, know that this is what you may find there.
reminds you of them most: It was super hard to pick just three for hers, there were so many others I wanted to include here, but couldn’t, as I wanted to make sure I included songs that covered as much of her over-arching characterisation as I could. Honourable mentions to: Miss Jackson - Panic! At The Disco feat. LOLO, Wilson (Expensive Mistakes) - Fall Out Boy, Beekeeper - Keaton Henson, and Bones Of A Rabbit - Young Heretics, which can all be found (and more) on her Spotify Playlist - catch-all warning for: sex, drugs, violence and murdering of parents applies here, be aware her playlist is very dark, just as dark as Rai’s but with differing subject matter, proceed with caution if you find anything like that triggering!)
You’re Going Down - Sick Puppies :: This one is kinda self-explanatory. I heard it on a Spotify or Youtube shuffle at some point a year or so ago and immediately went “Oh, hey Aria!” so onto her playlist it went XD “Because I'm hyped up out of control If it's a fight, I'm ready to go I wouldn't put my money on the other guy If you know what I know that I know.”  don’t mess with the Tiny Sith, guys, she will put you in the medbay. She’ll do it, she’s done it before ask Vano what happened to the last guy *nods*
Liar - The Arcadian Wild :: This is a relatively “new” song in comparison, which was sent to me by a good rp/writer friend on Discord (who afaik doesn’t have other socials!) that I often discuss plot points etc. with among other things, saying “hey this reminded me of Aria thought you’d like it!”. I listened to it and yep, sure enough, it’s an Aria song. A big part of Aria’s character is that at the start, she really is quite a bad person. She’s nasty, and cantankerous and she really doesn’t care about anybody except for herself (and maybe her dad. A tiny bit.), as things progress, however, while she is still inherently quite rude and selfish, she DOES learn to value other people...provided they are people she cares about, like Vano, and her friends, and so on,  as well as (sometimes, she’s working on it still) taking the blame for her own actions and learning it’s not “weak” or bad to a) admit you care about people, b) make mistakes and c) admit those mistakes and take responsibility for them. "I sense there’s trouble ahead, it’s clear by the signs and warnings. That should tell where all blame is due, So why are they pointing at MY head? [...] I sense deception to come. Honestly, truth and I are never one. 'Cause I am the lying man and I have made you my next victim. I need you to see through my act, to tell me I'm wrong, to take off the mask, or else I'll be left in the lie. And I'll deceive my way straight to demise! Cause I’m not in the right state of mind, I just wish I had strength to admit it. My stubbornness will put up a fight! But I don’t deserve to win it... I’m left in the dark, pondering my mistakes But in the light I swear I will, deny it all...”
I didn’t mean to post like half the song but woops it’s done so have it anyway lmao
Brutus - The Buttress :: TW: intense violent imagery in the lyrics. This one is very relevant but contains spoilers for upcoming and as of yet unposted/incomplete chapters (as in...like 3 ish chapters time at most) of Creeping Shadows, so I’ll post this quote as “explanation” and let you theorize who it’s about
“My name is Brutus and my name means “heavy” So with a heavy heart I'll guide this dagger into the heart of my Enemy! My whole life you were a teacher and friend to me Please know my actions are not motivated only by envy I too have a destiny! This death will be art! The people will speak of this day from near and afar This event will be history, And I'll be great too! I don't want what you have, I wanna be you!!“
reminds another character of them:
Where’s My Love? - SYML :: (Vano) I think the acoustic version is especially emotional : ))) Vano looked for her for years but couldn’t find her and genuinely thought Aria was dead. You can understand why she was so fucking angry when she found out that was a lie...but at the same time, she just wanted her love to come home :( “Did she run away? Did she run away? I don't know If she ran away, If she ran away, Come back home Just come home“
Mothers - Daughter :: (Myla, her mother) “Love all you need to love before it goes... When your face becomes a stranger’s that I don’t know. You will never remember who I was to you [...] I’m called “mother”, but they’re called “home”.”
Myla raised Aria for the first few years of her life, and really wanted to keep her away from both the Jedi and the Sith but as it became more and more clear that Aria’s Force affinity was as strong as her father’s, the situation rapidly spiralled out of Myla’s control. She tried to hide Aria, but in the end her father Noctis did find them and take Aria to train with the Sith. She didn’t see her daughter again until she was a teenager, suddenly turning up with the task to kill her for treason against the Empire (Myla is not the canon Imp Agent, but follows the general trajectory of the LS!Agent storyline i.e. an agent disillusioned with the Empire who eventually defects to the Republic with the help of the SIS.). Though she’s a Senator on Onderon now, Myla carried a blaster for personal protection and ofc knows how to use it, except...she couldn’t shoot her own daughter and that was all she wrote. I imagine her thought process during her final moments went something like in this song, especially the bit that I highlighted up there.
reminds you of a relationship of theirs, doesn’t have to be romantic, can be paternal, friendly, etc:
Tongues & Teeth - The Crane Wives :: Aria & Vano (Romantic). Aria’s relationship with Vano is incredibly messy and complicated. On one hand, she knows Vano deserves better, but at the same time she doesn’t want her to go anywhere else and it seems like no matter what she does to try and “warn her off” about what a “bad person” she is, Vano keeps coming back anyway. Ergo, this song. "Oh, I will ruin you. I will ruin you. It’s a habit...I can’t help it. I know that you mean so well, but I am not a vessel for your good intent. I will only break your pretty things, I will only wring you dry of everything! But if you’re fine with that, if you’re fine with that [...] You can be mine.”
Colours - Halsey :: Aria & Merak & Ziri (Friendship/Platonic Love) “You’re only happy when your sorry head is filled with dope, I hope you make it to the day you’re 28 years old...”
Aria “coped” (i.e. not very well but she did it) with the guilt of killing her mother and the stress brought on by the night terrors by self-medicating with glitterstims (spice) and alcohol, and this is how Merak in particular remembers her. Though she got clean from spice after they picked up Ziri, she still continued to drink (and still does) quite heavily, though at least it’s easier to manage that habit. Both of them supported her through this the best they could and it’s probably a big reason (other than Merak being Vano’s little brother) that they’re still Aria’s friends to this day, even if she doesn’t actively travel with them anymore.
(honourable mention to Agnes - Glass Animals which also falls under this “category” but I didn’t want this to get too crowded lmao, it is once again a super long post woops) You’re Gonna Go Far, Kid - The Offspring :: Aria & Roan/Darth Noctis (Familial/Familial Love) Listen, he may have taught her very bad emotional habits and turned her into a tiny attack dog, but her father did love & protect her the best way he possibly could. He was very proud of her and always envisioned her taking his place as a Darth one day (and it takes her a longass while, but eventually she does! Congrats dad!). That’s all I’ve got to say about this one 🤷‍♀️ Monster - Willyecho :: Aria & Satele Shan/The Jedi Order (Enemies to Begrudging Respect (eventually) “I can see the truth. No, you don’t have to lie to me. Don’t fill your head with things and think you’re free~ [...] You don’t believe in monsters, do you~?” ”Of course not!” ”Well, I do...” See me change...into something...darker....” My personal favourite from this “round”. It’s not until Ilum that Satele and the Jedi finally realise they have not “converted” Aria as they thought they did, but rather...they’ve had a Sith hiding under their noses, a Sith related to a Dark Councillor well-known for murdering Jedi no less, and that perhaps...the “deaths” she had convinced them were accidental, were in fact, not an accident at all. 😈 Aria, of course, gets her ass thrown in jail for a few years for this lmao When the schtick with the Revanites happens and Theron needs someone who can “negotiate in a civil manner with Sith”, he and his mother agree Aria is the best bet - if it works, the Sith will respond more positively to her than any other Jedi, if they kill her instead then they’re “rid of” her and don’t lose one of their own - when Lana’s point-of-contact happens to be Vano and the pair reunite after another several years apart, Aria refuses to return to the Republic after Yavin IV. By then, she’s developed enough of a begrudging respect for Satele (and vice versa) that the Grand Master lets her go (not that she was willing to try and fight Vano, Ni’kasi, Marr & Lana to try and take Aria prisoner again anyways). They haven’t seen each other since and though Aria is neutral to the Jedi who have joined the Alliance, she doesn’t care for those who are still loyal to the Republic and would rather have nothing to do with them if she can help it.

ye s, well
it basically came to me like a prophet receiving a vision from an angry god. you know. like brian david gilberts video ideas but with more slow burn.
no really i wrote all this down in my phone’s note app because some nearly coherent things popped up in my head every time i was on the train or bus these last few days.
(after-actually-writing-this disclaimer/note: this is 2000 words of slightly edited rambling about Bagginshield in the Afterlife. i had to put it in a read more.)
so the gist of it
the botfa goes just as in the movie with minor details altered. like bilbo kissing thorin just before he dies which inadvertently causes a ripple in time and space that makes the valar curious of them both. you know. minor stuff.
so bilbo goes back to the shire, the war of the ring goes down, and the hobbit/elf gang sails to valinor at the end. classic stuff, not much alternating of universes here.
but here’s where things turn into the “my city now” meme because DUDE DO I HAVE A LOT OF THOUGHTS ABOUT VALINOR AND HOW THE AFTERLIFE WORKS
like, I’m sorry mister jolkien rolkien tolkien, but just putting people into a hall to await being judged like a hospital waiting room? snooze, that’s boring!
so first of all, and you can fight me on this, Yavanna Made The Hobbits And You Can’t Change My Mind.
it just makes sense for her to have been very saddened by the destruction of literally all her work on arda through melkor’s poison, so she made living, growing things that could protect themselves from harm. as opposed to the ents, by the way, which were made by Eru to protect all the other living, growing things. it was a nice gesture of Eru to make those, but not quite what Yavanna wanted or had in mind, i imagine.
as with the dwarves, Eru wasn’t all happy about the existence of another race he didn’t make but you know, whatever, ‘I’ll just let this married couple have their own kids aside from mine, it’s okay’.
so he hands both the dwarves and the hobbits independent thought and free will, but under the condition (and here is where the afterlife stuff comes into play) that Aule and Yavanna be responsible for their mortal creations after their death. meaning that both races have seperate afterlives from the halls of mandos, MEANING THAT ITS COMPLETELY FINE FOR AULE AND YAVANNA TO BE LIKE “oh look honey, these two are so very in love and remind me of us, shan’t we do something about that?”
so. they do something about that. more precisely, they rearrange their afterlife-realms so they’re next to each other and someone with enough willpower could cross through the barrier. because listen, they’re valar, they can do whatever they want just for kicks.
okay so after that tangent lets get back to the meat of the matter: gay dwarves. I know not everyone has read Sansukh, a 500k word mammoth of a fic, and I don’t really intend to copy any of det’s canon, but their version of The Halls of Mahal really inspired me. basically the dwarven afterlife is one big hunk of a mountain/underground city where they’re free to live their days until dagor dagorath doing what they do best in the company of their families and friends; like smithing, crafting, building and other JustDwarrowThings.
meanwhile the hobbit afterlife is Basically The Shire and instead of being given the materials to build things, all the hobbits who go there get to grow plants and do their gardening. they don’t have to- just like none of the dwarves have to craft stuff- since there’s always enough food for everyone, but they are just allowed to do what they do best if they so desire.
now when Bilbo arrived in the undying lands he was still Old As Hell and im sorry to put it this way, he definitely kicked the can after like, a week of living there. not really so undying, them lands, huh. anyway Bilbo bites the dust and LOOK AT THAT he’s suddenly young again, and another LOOK AT THAT he’s standing in a very comfy, but Not Quite Bag End hobbit hole that has a note hung up on the front door. you wouldn’t think gods could have handwriting but hey, again, they’re gods they can do whatever. the note just tells him that yavannah made this place special and just for Bilbo but that there’s another home waiting for him. very cryptic there, lady. he doesn’t leave at first because hey, his family is here. there’s a lot of reunions and celebrating and food because its the fucking hobbit afterlife, what else would you expect
it takes him a few days of Regular Hobbit Life in his new home to realise ‘holy shit, this is so boring’ so what does a Fool of a Took do when things get boring and there’s a note urging him to do something?
HE’S GOING ON AN ADVENTURE
so Bilbo runs through the whole not-shire, meeting all sorts of people he outlived on the way (looking at you, Lobelia), as well as some elves. because elves can definitely just waltz through all the afterlives. they can walk on top of snow, you think they wouldn’t walk around wherever they please in valinor? rip to mankind, but they’re different.
he gets to the furthest reaches of it eventually, and lo and behold, what awaits him but the view of a tall mountain, an invisible barrier and a very flustered Thorin who is at his wits end as to how Bilbo even got here.
now for thorin’s part of the story we’ll have to start after the botfa again. he basically woke up in the darkness like an episode of naked and afraid, and started talking to Aule. his maker, who loves him to bits by the way since he made thorin, just tells him he’s free to go wherever his heart takes him. again with the cryptic messages from the gods.
so thorin, still very self-loathing and bitter because of his actions right before his death, sees this as Mahal’s way of saying ‘please don’t step foot in my halls u disgusting litle creacher’, when really he just meant ‘please do some well deserved self reflecting and then come inside to be with your family, they all miss you terribly’.
after his chat with the maker thorin just spawns in right at the front gate of the mountain and he has a choice to make. go inside or stay outside. and we all know Thorin’s proclivity for drama so he basically spends LITERAL YEARS just living in self imposed solitary confinement.
oh also tiny hc here, thorin was said to have taken “any work offered to him in the towns of men”, and they showed him in a smithy, but personally I believe they meant it when they said “any kind of work”. so basically thorin is a jack of all trades, master of some. he definitely has master-level skills in certain areas though, enough to build a vaguely hobbit-hole shaped house. why is it hobbit hole shaped?
oh right, the part where Thorin is absolutely enamoured with Bilbo.
"Go back to your books and your armchair, plant your trees, watch them grow. If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.”- HELLO? GAY POLICE? I’D LIKE TO REPORT A CASE OF ‘DWARF KING REALISING THAT THE HOBBIT WAY OF LIVING IS A REALLY GREAT ONE IN CONCEPT / WISHING HE COULD HAVE HAD THAT KIND OF LIFE WITH BILBO’
anyway it’s a long 80 years until Thorin does get to meet Bilbo again, and in the meantime we have one of my favorite additions to any Hobbit fanfic ever: Frerin
For the uninitiated, Frerin is Thorin’s brother. They also have a sister, Dís, but Tolkien never specified when she died and she was a bit younger than Thorin and Frerin so I reckon she’d still be alive as an old dwarf lady somewhere?
Anyway, Frerin. Oh boy. Sansukh, again, does an excellent job at turning Frerin into a character with a level of authenticity that gets real fucking close to Genuine Tolkien™, so most of my own characterisation of Frerin is based on that in Sansukh. With the important omission of the dwarves not being able to see the present/their still alive loved ones in middle earth through a magic mirror pool.
so Frerin takes it upon himself to leave the mountain in search of his brother because he really does want him back. but also because Mahal has had it with Thorin’s antics and suggests Frerin fetch him so he can finally reunite with his family. Mahal doesn’t talk to the dwarves a lot because he’s like an awkward and distant dad, but he does actually speak to them.
so Thorin is supposed to go see his family, which he does, but not immediately. it takes like, a solid year of just brotherly (and sister-sonly) companionship for him to open up about all his anxieties and regrets and THEN he goes into the mountain to cry in his mother’s lap. as you do.
however Thorin still feels like he doesn’t 100% belong with the other dwarves in there, so he frequently spends long stretches of time outside, building away at his house, thinking about Bilbo. the company goes out to visit him sometimes.
more details on the house tho, cuz it’s Important; it’s built halfway into a hill near the mountain, like a proper hobbit hole would be, but the lower levels are built into stone. look, he’s had 80 years to work on constructing this. it’s near perfect in every way for both hobbit and dwarf standards and could definitely fit the entire company and more inside.
now about the barrier. elves can pass through without a second thought because they’re shiny little bastards who just get to do all the cool stuff, but the other races can’t just hop between realms like that; they really have to muster up the willpower. which usually means they can’t do it because a drawback for both dwarves and hobbits is that they favor isolation from other races even in death, and as such don’t want to mingle with each other.
unless you’re Bilbo Badass Baggins though, who simply runs through the barrier to yell at Thorin for leaving him sad and alone for 80 years. he is that bitch.
there’s gonna be some legolas and gimli shenanigans if i can fit them in (cuz i dont know when exactly they sailed west together), possibly a mention of tauriel because bruh peter jackson did us dirty by not giving her any closure besides ‘lol i guess she’s banished from mirkwood??’ and Mairon. because. I also have some thoughts about him.
also Fili and Kili as pseudo matchmakers because every fic needs that
and did I mention there’s gonna be hozier lyrics for chapter titles
i said this was the gist of it but i somehow ended up at ~1900 words. well, more power to me.

“You’re such a fucking prick.” The words come at him like daggers, her eyes burning holes through him.
He isn’t surprised, he was expecting her to lash out, he knew what he was getting himself into after all. What he didn’t expect though, is the all too sarcastic laugh that emits through her lips and cuts the air between the two.
“I’m the prick?” He quips back, the comment coming out a little harsher than he intended, and an accusing laugh rattles through his chest as his arms cross in front of it.
Harry has been sat comfortably on Y/N’s couch, mindlessly flipping through the channels, attention averting every now and then to the device he’d set atop the coffee table as he waited for a reply from her.
He’s mulled it over in his head more times than he can care to count now, his nerves in a bundle at the thought - if what he did would help to surface her feelings, or if it would all blow up in his face. It would be an understatement to say he was feeling nervous, he was beyond that at this point, has been since he saw the photographs plastered all over social media.
He didn’t notice just how tense he’s been - the inside of his cheek caught between his teeth as he anxiously bit at the tender tissue, his eyebrows knitted in worry - until he hears the faint jingle of house keys, and he’s whipping his head in the direction of where he hears the door creek open. It’s then that he feels his stomach clench and heart pick up pace, his breath hitches and it’s like he’s awaiting a certain doom.
She doesn’t notice him at first, goes about taking off her coat and hanging it on the hook behind the wooden door. He watches in anticipation as she toes off her shoes, opting to keep her socks on. He twists his body only slightly, soundless, to face her. His fingers fidget around the heavy rings, twisting and pulling - something he’s found himself doing when waiting for an interviewer to finish their question or as he sits about people watching.
He takes notice to how his heart tightens the second she turns around and he’s able to see her face, nose and cheeks tinted red from where the cold air touched her skin.
“Shit-“ she yelps, eyes closing as she brings a hand to her chest, “Jesus, Harry.”
“Sorry,” he’s quick to get on his feet, hands digging into his jean’s pocket as he juts out his lip, the inside of his cheek still caught in between his teeth.
She does a once over on him before turning around and tossing her keys inside of the bowl atop her hallway table, bringing her purse strap over and off her shoulder to set it on top of it as well as the carry out bag of food she had ordered for him before letting the shopping bags that had hung on her arms fall to the floor with a ‘thud’.
He watches carefully, still, as she takes the mail Harry had picked up from her floor when he’d first stepped in and stacked on the same table where her purse now lay.
He doesn’t know whether she was waiting for him to say anything about why he was at her place - not that he needed a reason, anyone looking for him usually finds him at hers when he’s not off touring - or if she was genuinely ignoring him.
He coughs once, as if to make his presence known - only she already knows he’s there but she’s choosing to not acknowledge him.
She glances up at him through her lashes, her brows knitting momentarily before she’s walking off to the kitchen, take out bag in hand.
Harry follows suit, his sock clad feet heavily dragging across the wooden floor.
And again, he watches her drop the paper bag on her island top before walking over and opening the fridge. And she just stands there, probably deciding on what to reach for before she’s settling for a bottle of water.
“Been waitin’ f’ye’.” But she must know that.
Of course she does. She remembers mindlessly scrolling through her phone while she waited for her friend to walk back with their juice orders when she’d gotten a text with a link from a different friend. She hadn’t thought much of it, thought she had messaged her a site where she’d found a funny meme or something, but the second her finger tapped the web address and it opened her safari to a photo of Harry out with a blonde, she regretted it. She felt a ball drop to the pit of her stomach, and her throat had tightened at the sight of him looking down at the woman as they walked past shops.
She also remembers receiving Harry’s text shortly after. It had read something like, “Hey, pet. I’m in town and thought we could catch up? Let me know if you can. xx”. She had read - skimmed - it once, too hurt to reply with anything. That, and her friend had returned with her drink. But the photo of her best friend out and about with someone he knew Y/N didn’t approve of sat in the back of her mind, cutting the attention she was giving her friend in half as they walked in and out of shops.
So yeah, of course she knew Harry had been waiting for her.
“Was out.” The response is short, her tone matching the indifference she felt towards him at the moment.
“With him?” He’s bitter. His body language has it written all over. The way his arms cross across his chest, fists clenched under his arms, he’s all but rolling his eyes at her.
She had scoffed out a laugh, ignoring the question and moving around him. Harry throws his head back in frustration.
Their feelings were never voiced, but Harry knew Y/N well enough to realise how she felt about him. He knew how difficult it was to her earn her trust, and just how much it took for her to get comfortable enough to where she didn’t mind the way he touched her. She was never bothered when they were between friends and Harry would pull her onto his lap, his arms wrapping around her body and clasped hands resting on her hip, or her thighs, whilst he continued to converse with friends, she would gladly take to resting her head to his temple, warm hands cupping his. And Y/N knew too much about Harry to chalk up his flirty glances and lingering touches to him just being friendly. She knew the Harry that was crazy affectionate only with people he trusted in terms of being touchy feel-y. He was nice with everyone, yes, a genuine kind soul, but it was only with a few that he allowed himself to really let all his guards down. Y/N knew she was one of those people, just like Harry knew.
But again, for some reason or another, neither of them ever dared touch that subject. So it was only a matter of time until someone had enough and said something.
“Yeah, Harry, you really are.” She confirms, hand prepped on her hip.
“So ye’ can question the people tha’ I hang out with, but I can’t yours?”
This is unbelievable.
“I’ve got a reason to dislike her. You haven’t even met him.”
Harry runs his hands over his face, frustrated about the whole situation and the fact Y/N’s just called him out over a stunt.
“S’not even real. This whole Camille thing’s just temporary.”
She furrows her eyebrows at the sound of her name.
“Why her?” He asks, genuinely curious. “Ye’ never had a problem with any of them? Not Taylor, not Kendall.”
“Oh my god, Harry,” she shrieks.
And she just wishes she had never said anything.
Harry can sense her patience wearing thin, the furrow on her brows deepening by the minute.
“You know what, just forget it.” She shrugs her shoulders and throws her hands up in defeat.
“No,” it’s a firm retort, “ye’ wanna talk ‘bout how m’a prick? Tell me why.”
She raises an eyebrow at him, clearly annoyed at his challenge. And she wants to be angry. She wants to tell him that she really can’t believe he’s just out and about with these women that are no good for him. She wants to give him her two cents about how he deserves better. But she knows him too well, and she’s sure that’ll only anger him because who is she to pick and choose who he can and can’t go out with. But more importantly, she wants to ask him why he feels like he needs all these women in the first place when he’s got her. She doesn’t want to come off as the clingy best friend who’s got no right to tell him off when they aren’t even in a relationship.
“They were at least nice girls,” she bites back, fed up with his accusations, “this one comes at your fans, for fucks sake.”
“Okay, ye’ don’t like her, but I don’t think tha’s the only reason why.”
She looks into his intense stare, wondering if she should just admit what she thinks he already knows.
“Y/N.” He whispers, eyes going back to the soft mesmerising green she’s used to.
She breaks eye contact. If he keeps looking at her like that, she might just spill it.
He inches closer to her, his eyes searching for hers, but she’s determined to not meet his.
She feels the warmth radiate off his body the closer he gets, and soon, he’s towering above her and all she can do is look at her floor.
When he reaches for her chin, she steps around him, “forget it. I’m gonna go take a shower.”
“Another date with what’s his name?” He couldn’t stop himself, and if he weren’t so jealous over it he would maybe feel guilty, but he doesn’t.
He’s angry, and sick of just standing by and pretending like he doesn’t feel the way he does about her. He’s sick of having his Y/N so close and having to restrain himself from kissing her the way he wants. But he needs her to tell him. He needs to know that she wants him, too.
“What did you just say?” She halts in her tracks, and her whole body whips around at the sound of his accusing voice.
“Can take the time t’go off and see some bloke but won’t make time for me when m’home?”
“I can’t do this with you right now, H.” She shakes her head, ready to continue her walk.
“I’ve seen the way you look at me when you think I don’t notice.” He blurts out.
And what does that even mean? It had nothing to do with the argument they’re having.
“What does that even mean? I don’t look at you any type of way,” she exclaims, turning around again, “and it’s completely irrelevant to what we were talking about.”
The corner of Harry’s lip pulls up at the way she crosses her arms protectively in front of her chest, amused at how fidgety she’s become.
“Getting a bit nervous there, love,” he teases. “But it’s completely relevant.”
He runs a hand through his hair, smirk plastered on his face, ready to make her admit what he knows she’s holding back.
“Ye’ look at me with this soft, fond look in your eyes,” he continues, stepping closer to where she’s frozen still, “it’s unreal to be honest.”
She rolls her eyes at him, an exasperated sigh leaving her lips because how dare he? How did the situation go from them trying to call each other out to him spouting out nonsense?
But is it really nonsense?
She begins to tie her hair into a bun, flustered at the sudden turn the situation’s taken, “help yourself to the take out I got for you,” she huffs, “I’ll be in my room if you need me.”
She begins to walk in the direction of her room when she feels Harry wrap his hand around her wrist.
“Let go, Harry.” And she had meant to sound threatening, but it comes out in a shy whisper.
“Would ye’ just look at me?” Harry asks softly.
“I don’t want to look at your stupid face,” she replies petulantly.
“You love my stupid face,” Harry counters, a soft chuckle leaving his lips.
“I swear to-“ Y/N turns to look at him only to be pushed against the wall.
“Why are you so upset about it being Camille?” He presses, but turns her head sideways to avoid looking at him.
“Don’t go there, Harry,” she pleads, the knot in her tummy tightening.
She doesn’t wanna go there. She’s been avoiding there for a quite a while now and she’ll be damned if she lets herself ruin it all in a moment of weakness. But having him so close, his hot breath fanning over her neck isn’t helping.
“Why not? What are you so afraid of?” He asks, voice just above a whisper as he noses at her neck.
She lets her eyes close and her head fall back against the wall.
“Talk to me,” Harry pleads, but Y/N just shakes her head, “look at me,” he whispers, placing both hands on either side of her face.
She knows what he wants from her. She can feel it.
“I don’t want to ruin everything,” she confesses finally looking at him, her throat tight at how nervous having to admit it is making her.
“What is there to ruin?” He asks in disbelief.
“I like how things are, H. I like that you’re my best friend and that I get to have you in my life like that. If things don’t work out, everything will be awkward and I don’t want to lose you. I can’t lose you.”
“Tha’s never going t’happen, love, ye’ should know tha’ by now. Nothin’ could ever stop me from wanting t’be here for ye’. I just really want ye’ t’give us a try. If things don’t work out, tha’s okay, but I’ll always be here. M’not gonna go anywhere.” Harry says earnestly, his eyes conveying nothing but pure honesty.
Y/N can think of only one thing to do then.
She surges up and latches her lips to his, wrapping her arms around his neck. And Harry whimpers at the sudden touch, but he’s soon leaning down to press his lips hard against hers, a smile spreading across his face.

My Final Post on Anthony*
*until he gets his shit together
So, as you all may or may not remember, I made A POST after Anthony’s atrocious April Fools day video claiming that I was DONE with Anthony... and I was... but not fully. While I did unsub from his channel (which was long overdue) I still followed him on Instagram and Twitter and actually left my tweet notifications on for him. I also answered SEVERAL other questions about Anthony through my inbox. However, this post is the last time I am mentioning Anthony on this blog as an independent creator.*
This post is nothing more than one big ass critique of Anthony and his content. This is my last shot at trying to reach out to Anthony to make some changes because after this, I’m done.* I WANT him and his channel to succeed so bad that seeing him fail like this and knowing that it’s his fault makes me sick. This post will show you why me and so many others are SO angry and will show you that Anthony knows what he’s doing, but for some reason continues to ignore us while he quietly loses subs and followers by the THOUSANDS monthly in the background. I CARE about Anthony and WANT him to succeed. That’s why I’m making this post. To try and help him (if he’ll listen) and show people that he is MUCH MORE than the content he’s putting out. However, if he doesn’t care, then I can’t care anymore. LAST SHOT!
Feel free to send this link to him through Twitter if you have the balls (cause I sure as hell don’t)! I WANT him to see it.
Buckle up, kiddo’s! It’s a long one!
Anthony’s content changes at the drop of a hat. I’ve honestly seen more consistency out of a fucking camelaian. You CANNOT be inconsistent on YouTube if you hope to succeed. Sure, changing things up once in a while isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but changing every few months just pander to some people is channel suicide. It may get you a couple of extra views at first, but you will lose the audience you already had because you are no longer who they subbed to in the first place.
When he first left S*osh, I think his plan to build an audience was to ride over most of the subs he had from S*osh while also collabing with a few well known solo creators to gain attention from people who didn’t watch S*osh. Not a bad plan to start off with, however he most likely did not gain as many S*osh subs as he thought he was going to, so he panicked and started using the dirtiest tricks in the book to get seen such as clickbait and LOADS of collabs as seen below which was the wrong response. The correct response was just to continue with what YOU wanted to make while also finding a balance with videos WE wanted to see and eventually the subs would have followed because they liked who YOU were... but he did not do this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After the collab phase (which lasted about three months), I believe he tried to move on with videos he wanted to make which was the videos where he portrays a socially inept character. This within itself IS NOT the issue, it’s HOW he went about it. When creating a character persona separate from yourself, it’s important to let the audience know when you’re the character and when you’re you. You don’t have to come flat out and be like: “Yo, I’m Anthony today guys!” you can easily do this by giving your character a name or by SEPARATING how YOU act and how your CHARACTER acts. It’s just enough context clues for your audience to figure it out. Anthony fails at this. When your audience doesn’t see the character line, they get confused and wonder why the hell you’re acting so foolish. Most don’t get it. It makes the line even more blurry when you market a channel and social media as YOU and instead just use it as another outlet for your character or for promotion of said character. Newcomers have no line to see and it makes it almost impossible for the average viewer to get what you’re doing. You just look like an idiot to them... which most won’t subscribe to.
This is why, I believe, his videos without another popular creator or subject in the title barely breaks 100k which is MUCH lower than he probably anticipated which, again, caused him to panic and go back to clickbait. His titles ARE NOT creative and is using basic psychology to draw people in weather he realises it or not. Using titles like “I’M SORRY!”, “COUPLE GETS THEIR TEST RESULTS!” and “THE REAL REASON WHY I LEFT S*OSH!” makes you wonder. Why is he sorry? What did he do? What test? What test did they take? What’s the real reason? Our brains naturally want to complete things, so the average viewer will click on it because they HAVE TO KNOW by the nature of their brain. In my personal opinion, it is a DISGUSTING tatic of trying to get an audience. If you rely on clickbait, it shows me that you’re either:
A) Uneducated with the YouTube algorithm and don’t know a better way...
Except Anthony DOES know a better way and is well educated about the algorithm. How do I know? Well, in THIS episode of Game Theory, MatPat mentions that he worked with Smosh (AKA: Ian and Anthony) to help them with their audience. He’s also mentioned working with them several other times in other meta theories that he has done. So Anthony:
B) Understands how to properly build an audience and is WELL educated with the algorithm, but instead uses the knowledge to manipulate people into subbing instead of showing them that he is deserving of their sub.
While collabling and clickbait CAN help reach out to more people who would otherwise not see your channel, COMPLETELY relying on it is just PURE LAZINESS. I can understand using those tactics like once a month or further apart, but every other video!? If you want to succeed, you have to maintain a BALANCE between what people want to see and what you want to make. Just flat out relying on the algorithm to build your audience for you isn’t going to get you very far.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As gross as these tricks are, it didn’t boost him too much. He’s gaining in views, but his sub count is unsteady. The appropriate response to this is to continue doing what you were doing but start making subtle changes to help draw a character line and to subtly help the average viewer get your humor by dumbing it down a bit. I personally don’t think his humour is funny. The timing is TOO LONG and there’s no base for his joke which leave many seeking out Google to get the punchline. Dumbing down the humor and finding a balance between your normal humor will help bring in more average viewers. Also finding a balance between manipulative tactics and YOUR OWN content would also be a WONDERFUL response. This will in turn eventually grow your subcount to where you don’t even have to manipulate people into watching your content or subbing to you. My channel is practically dead and even I know that you can’t pull the BS that’s he’s pulling and make money off of it to pay for your fancy house that Gerard Way used to own.
To this very day, his sub count is EXTREMELY unsteady. According to his SOCIAL BLADE, while he is gaining a little subs, he’s losing a lot too. He’ll go for about a week or two gaining anywhere from 50 to 300 new subs a day to losing 100-400 a day for a solid 4-7 days.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s not a steady a count that you see with most successful channels. For example, many consider S*osh to be dead now, but their Social Blade tells a TOTALLY different story.
Tumblr media
While not that impressive, at least it’s STEADY. They gain an average of 1,500 a day with only one bad day within a two week time span. THEY’RE GROWING... not fast, but still growing.
Between April 29th to May 8th, Anthony gained 1,484 subs, but between May 9th to May 14th, he LOST 1,913 which means that even on his good days, he ends up losing them later on during his bad weeks which isn’t great if you’re hoping to build an audience. He’s not growing... wonder why, guys?
THIS is why we’re angry at Anthony. We KNOW he’s better than riding off of the algorithm. He is a genuinely funny guy when TRIES to be, but all this pandering bull shit is pushing people away from him. He thinks it’s getting more views and subs, but it’s not. In fact, his Twitter and Instagram is FAR worse than his channel.
His TWITTER only had ONE good day in a two week time frame.
Tumblr media
His INSTAGRAM is worse, losing an average of 600 a day and 19,000 within a month.
Tumblr media
Weather you agree with me or not, numbers don’t lie and it’s CLEAR that he is doing something wrong to be losing so many followers and subs. Also, that “SUPER HILARIOUS” 4/20 JOKE he made the other day on Twitter with who he’s following, yeah he did that on purpose just to make a weed “joke.” It’s equivalent to your 10-year-old brother who just found a YouTube playlist full of MLG meme comps.
Don’t believe me? CHECK IT.
Tumblr media
The dates even line up.
He keeps using these minuliptive techniques and won’t even TRY to make regular content and his numbers are suffering for it. For someone who’s obsessed with them, he sure doesn’t seem to want to build them.
Also, this isn’t about me being upset with his content. As long as he’s happy, I don’t care what he makes AS LONG as it lives up to his potential. IT DOESN’T. It doesn’t even come CLOSE to what he’s capable of. He could EASILY be one of the top YouTube channels if he gave a damn and TIRED. He’s not trying, HE’S MANIPULATING and it’s ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE for someone who once shone brighter than the sun not just to me, but everyone else. This new channel and “Anthony’s” behavior his A MESS and a disaster waiting to happen. You may have your mindless subs who buy your poorly made merchandise fooled, but you don’t have me fooled. If you have ANY hope of wanting to pay for your fancy house, bills, or anything you want, YOU BETTER start making some changes because you ARE GOING TO FALL eventually. You can’t keep running from who you are. Eventually, you will grow tired of trying to be someone you’re not and when you do, the people you tried so hard to please will be gone. You’ve already lost me who’s been nothing but loyal to you and Ian for over four years... who’s next?
I’m FUCKING COMPLETELY DONE!!!!!!!*

A non fan’s “VIP” experience at the Witness tour
Anyone who knows me knows that I am not the biggest Katy fan to say the least.... but my 60 year old mother is, and after being financially unable to attend any of Katy’s past tours, nothing was stopping her from seeing Sydney’s opening night of this one, even if Witness wasn’t her favourite album. Likewise, as this was a mother’s day gift, nothing was stopping me getting her the best sitting tickets in the place. I also want to make a quick note to say that a lot of the negative stuff I have to say is at the start of this post with the positive being down the bottom, so if you’re going to attack me for ‘being a hater’, read the whole thing first.
So we showed up at 6:30, right when the VIPs were being let in. Getting in was no issue. The staff checked our tickets, gave the bumbag full of VIP stuff, reminded us we have $10 worth of food and $10 drink on the VIP vouchers (which tbh is pretty generous, typically it’s $5 each) and directed us in. Once in, the plan was to get food, drink, merchandise and have plenty of time to spare inside considering part of this VIP package was supposed “shortened VIP lines”. Likewise, according to the email I received, non VIP ticket holders were not meant to be let in until 7. None of that went to plan...
We started at the closest food and drinks place... except it wasn’t a proper food place, just a chocolate, chips and drink place. According to security, there was only 2 proper food places; on the very top floor and on the bottom floor on the other side of the arena. Mum and I then modified our plan to get drink there, then the merchandise which was right in front of that place and finally the food. So we hop in the VIP line and some guy comes and tells us that it’s quicker just to get in the normal line, so we do, much to the employee at the counter’s dismay. I don’t know if he was double booked jobs wise for this event or was only meant to set up, but he was adamant that he had somewhere else to be and demanded to know why we were in his line. After a second group was sent to the line, he called over the bloke who directed us there and told him off. He also seemed unaware that VIP ticket holders were told that the $10 drinks voucher could be used on alcohol as my mum tried to get a wine.
So that was all an annoyance, but it was quickly cleared up and we got our drinks and went to the VIP merchandise line. By this point it was 6:45. Like I previously mentioned, non VIP ticket holders were let in a lot earlier than the time indicated on the email I got meaning that the normal line had hundreds of people waiting... and yet it still moved faster than the VIP line which had no more than 10 people. Granted, there was only one guy doing the VIP line which seems silly given how slowly it was going. Anyway, it hit 7 and quite literally only 2 people had been served in the VIP line so I said to mum that I’d grab the food considering that had to be done before the show too. She was reluctant as she hates using the bank card, but she also didn’t want to get the food so that was that.
I decided to go around the arena to the stall on the same floor we were on. While there, I went through a massive line, was held up through a fight because one of the cashiers wouldn’t accept cash when he should have and then had to call over the boss for my order because the cashier thought the vouchers I had were homemade and I was trying to steal the food. All up, it took about 25 minutes from the moment I left the merch line to get the food and come back. None of that really bugged me; I only put it in to put the timing of what I say next and to put something I say later into perspective. My mother was only just reaching the front of the VIP merch line when I got back.
All up, we got to our seats at about 7:35. Zedd was running late and started at 7:45 so we didn’t miss anything. Speaking of Zedd, he was alright. Took me a few songs to realise he wasn’t just playing his own stuff, but there’s nothing wrong with that. Honestly though? Literally nearly every single arena show in Australia has a DJ for the opening act regardless of who the main act is so he was kinda meh for me. I will give him that he had a lot of energy though.
After Zedd, I went to eat my half of the rolls I had brought. From the minute I bit into them, it was clear both through taste and smell that something was off. Literally the small/taste of vomit was all around me and mum could tell. We chucked them out immediately and I prayed that I wouldn’t end up with food poisoning today. And before someone makes a comment about concert food, this is far from the first time buying these rolls there and typically they are fine, though typically I buy them from the upstairs place, so lesson to be learned there. Anyway, I decided to go up, buy more drinks and an ice cream each to get the taste out of my mouth. When getting that, the barrister decided trying to watch the concert for herself was more important than my order. Thankfully her boss was there and made a comment about how I’d probably like to see the show too considering the money I paid, to which she scowled.
Anyway, I got in halfway through Katy’s first song. The first thing I noticed about the show is how little time she spent on the side of the stage we were on which was a little disappointing given how much we had paid for those tickets. I mean, I get it, the walkway was on the other side, but I feel if both sides are paying the same amount of money, there should be equal viewing... then again, I suppose you could argue that because we had the b side stage on our side, that should make up for it.
I’m going to be honest with you, the second half of the concert was far superior to the first to the point it felt like 2 different shows to me. Perhaps this is because I’m not a fan, but the first half felt underwhelming at best and awkward at worst. Watching Katy sing Teenage Dream in what I could only describe as a ‘40 year old business mother’ outfit while girls who looked like they jumped straight out of her California Girls music video danced around her was weird. Even her in the same outfit without the jacket felt younger and probably would have fit the song better. Likewise, her having an extended skit with the superbowl shark felt like a strange attempt to be like “Yeah look at me! I know all the memes and can laugh at myself!”. And her ‘being angry’ at Australian culture really just made me go “... do you really not have enough hits that you have to fill your time with this?”. But once again, maybe I’m just not getting the joke because this is not my fandom. I will however say that I think the effort Katy went to to recognise her band and dancers was great and a trend I hope continues with all artists.
For me the show really started to pick up with Deja Vu. The visuals went from meh to anywhere from cool to gorgeous for the rest of the night. The stage work, including the dancer on the pole felt like they added to the arrangements. Hell, even the parts in between acts felt more engaging and exciting.
My personal favourite moment of the show was watching as she sung Wide Awake sitting on that planet making her way to the b stage. It looked absolutely gorgeous and felt creative to the point where it’s definitely one of the best ways I’ve seen an artist go to their b stage. And while I wished she would have sung Thinking Of You over See Me Into You after hearing that she did for some shows this tour, the moments kept coming. Watching Katy reach out her arm first to hold her fans hands, inviting an 8 year old girl on stage and especially reassuring the girl that she could be a singer if she wanted was heartwarming. Hell even cracking a joke about drugs after hearing that 8 year old say she saw a kangaroo jump on its head felt genuine in a way the first half didn’t. Quite frankly, the only thing I would have changed about the second half of her set is that with it being the final encore song, I wish that she would have sung the majority of Firework on the main stage, only going up the runway at the end rather than doing 90% of the song there.
All up, if I had to compare it to the concerts I typically go to, I’d have to say that the first half felt like Taylor Swift’s 1989 tour; very business minded and very clear that she was trying to prove/achieve something whereas the second half felt more heart filled mixed with energetic, almost reminiscent of the Speak Now tour. In terms of whether I’d go again, if mum wanted to, I’d probably tag along. However, I’d be reluctant to buy VIP tickets again.

tag meme take three
thanks to the wonderful @eliotswaugh for tagging me!
1. What’s the otp that haunts you? Like, we all have sunken otps, but what’s the ship that still haunts you and will always lowkey haunt you because they were so amazing that you will never understand how they didn’t end up together?
lauryssaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. see my answer for this in tag meme take two. they were so fucking good for each other. they made each other better and brought out the best in each other and I will forever be miserable that they didn’t end up together.
2. What show has Completely Disappointed You? Like, started-out-so-good-how-did-we-end-up-here disappointed you?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. arr0w, for sure. I’m sorry that something that brought me so much joy (in the form of laurel lance) caused me so much hurt.
also $upergirl after that subpar season.
3. What book has gotten to you? Not necessarily your favourite, but a book that hit you in the feels or made you cry or rethink things in your life or you just genuinely enjoyed?
I recently reread my favourite book ever, gone with the wind, and it’s really interesting because I shipped scarlett/rhett so hard the first time round (when I was about fourteen or so) and then I next read it now, at twenty-one, and I totally shipped her with ashley and felt like rhett disrespected her and borderline abused her at times and that it was not a healthy relationship at all. it made me rethink things in life, for sure.
also this isn’t a book so it doesn’t really count, but I watched this film once called take this waltz, which was amaaaazing but more importantly was what, I think, made me realise that I have depression. there’s this bit at the end when she talks about the gaps in her life and it just - struck a chord with me. in a way that I don’t think any other movie has done so. so there’s that.
4. If you could sink one of your otps so that another one of your otps could sail, which 2 would you pick? And why?
I love 0licity but I feel like I would sink it, no contest, for lauryssa. representation wise, 0licity is straight and white (tho admittedly with jewish rep and mental illness rep), while lauryssa is f/f, interracial, jewish rep and mental illness rep. it’s no contest really. also I feel lauryssa is less messy than 0licity, as much as I love them. no baby mama drama for them. both pairings have had ooc moments and shitty writing, but ultimately I just love laurel and nyssa more than ollie and felicity.
5. What’s your IMBED alignment type thing? What does it mean? Explain that shit to me like I’m really dumb cause I’ve never understood it.
I googled imbed alignment and it’s not giving me anything, sorry. if you mean mbti, I am enfp or infp. idk really what it means lmao.
6. Favourite book to movie or tv adaptation?
gone with the wind was pretty good. gone baby gone (novel by dennis lehane and film directed by ben affleck) was excellent.
7. What’s your HP house, who’s your demigod parent and what’s your Game of Thrones house? And do you think this actually says something about your personality?
my hp house is ravenclaw/occasionally slytherin. idk what a demigod parent is or what my got house is, sorry :P does it say anything about my personality? yeah, I guess. I’m studious to a fault for sure. but idk what me being a kind of slytherin says about me. maybe that I’m secrelty a little bit evil? ;)
8. What’s your comfort show? Like, a show you can watch over and over again?
wildfire. not enough people know about this show tbh. it’s so good. and it’s about horses and love and the characters are amaaaazing and it also deals with sensitive issues really well imo.
9. Favourite Queen song?
we are the champions
10. Do you watch any medical shows (like Grey’s Anatomy or something)? What are your thoughts about it?
I used to watch casualty and holby city. they were good shows for the drama and emotion. less so for being realistic about medical things.
11. Who’s your Best Bisexual and your Best Gay character?
laurel (yes she’s bisexual fight me) and nyssa al ghul (oh hey look it’s my otp).
Bonus (cause I’m curious): What is the most convoluted thing a show has done to make your otp or notp endgame? (Something like conveniently forget someone’s abusive or having a couple randomly meet up in heaven to be endgame, etc.)
when felicity said she understood why oliver lied to her about william. just. my thoughts are so convoluted I literally can’t put it into words about how angry I feel about that scene in the argus hospital.
also, on the subject of otps and notps, I hate that k@ramel had the best songs (like let it all go by rhodes and birdy and every little thing she does is magic by sleeping at last) and that probably made people ship them more but almost ruined those songs for me.
again. if anyone wants to do these questions and say I tagged them, feel free! they’re great questions :)

Riverdale 5x07 Review
Another week another Riverdale episode. Once again I am pleased to say I enjoyed this episode. We’re still moving the mysteries and plotlines forward and they are still interesting to me so that’s always a positive. But I think what I like the most is that we are still seeing lots of different characters interact and its not just the same people over and over which is exciting and interesting to see. As I say every week these are just my own opinions and views you are more than welcome to agree or disagree with me. There are naturally lots of spoilers. Also this one did get quite long o if you would like to know my thoughts on the episode read on.
Archie and the Rebirth of the Fire Department.
Of course Archie’s reaction to one, his house being set on fire and two, finding out his grandpa was a firefighter, is to decide that he’s going to restart the fire department. I also loved Jughead’s reaction when Archie showed him the picture of his grandfather that line ‘Oh jeez, I think I know exactly where this is going’ was perfect. I also couldn’t help but laugh at how happy Archie looks in that scene and how exasperated Jughead was, I mean Juggie literally become the embodiment of that ‘ah shit here we go again’ meme. I love Jughead and Archie’s friendship so I’ve been enjoying their scenes this season, I also like that despite the comment he made he is still supportive of Archie’s mission to restart the firehouse you know he sends him on his way with a ‘go get em soldier’.
Also it is worth pointing out that Archie is 100% right here. Fighting fire with fire isn’t the way to solve the problem, fighting fire with a fire department is. I actually think it might be one of the most intelligent things Archie has ever said. I also think that the fact that his initial reaction isn’t to go ‘mono a mono’, as Jughead put it, with Hiram shows how much he has grown and matured over the last seven years. He has come to learn that if he wants to stop Hiram and improve Riverdale then getting into a fight or argument with Hiram isn’t going to do that instead he needs to look at what the town is lacking, at what the people of Riverdale need and get that thing for them. In this instance its a fire department to fight the fires that are being set all over town and endangering lives.
The fact that the old fire chief didn’t want to get involved made sense to me, he said it was a young man’s job and I do feel like the residents of Riverdale are very tired so I could understand why he had a bit of a defeatist attitude about the whole thing, I mean we see this downtrodden, ‘I’m tired of this’ attitude again later in the episode when the homeless veteran said that he heard it all before when Archie said he wanted to make the town better. When you think about it, its been seven years of watching their town slowly die and things just getting worse, the people aren’t going to suddenly believe it when a bunch of old residents show back up claiming they are going to safe the town. They need to be shown. However saying all of that I did find the whole bringing Bernardo from Katy Keene over and having him train the kids from the RROTC on how to be firefighters, was a bit of a waste of time as in the end those kids didn’t end up as the fire team and Bernardo went home before he trained the people who would make up the fire team. So in the end it was Archie’s original plan that came to fruition in that he first wanted Kangs and the random serpents we had never seen before to become the new volunteer fire department and to be trained by the old fire chief, which is exactly what happened in the end. I will admit I was surprised when Kevin and Fangs refused at first. But thinking on it more I do think it was suppose to show that defeatist attitude the town has and to show just how much Hiram has stomped these guys down in the mud. Its not that people don’t want to fight its just that they’ve spent seven years hoping things will get better only to see it get worse, they’ve given up hope and that’s really heart breaking when you stop to think about it.
Going back to the fact that the RROTC were planning on becoming the volunteer firefighter team though. There were a few things that happened in this particular plotline that made me either confused or just cracked me up. Firstly I was very surprised that those kids parents actually gave them permission to run into burning buildings on the regular. I mean you are really telling me that a group parents who are aware that fire’s are often deliberately set in Riverdale just went yeah sure and signed the permission slips. But then I remembered what show I was watching and that the parents of Riverdale have always been a bit questionable so I just chalked that up to Riverdale logic. But I did have a good laugh when Bernardo asked if any of them had previous experience fighting fires, I mean Bernardo they’re kids when exactly do you think they would have gotten experience before? But my favourite moment was towards the end of the episode when we find out that Principal Weatherbee banned the RROTC kids from volunteering and Archie explains that he was pissed that Archie took them to be a burning building, like really Archie was he upset about that? How weird. Though what I will say is that I do think its sweet that its the kids of Riverdale who still have that fighting spirit and who want to help save Riverdale.
Also when Bernardo said that the most important thing to know about firefighting is to work as a team and that no man goes into a burning building alone I just knew that at some point in this episode Archie was going to run into a burning building alone. I said earlier that I believed Archie has matured and thinks things through more however at his core he is still the same person and Archie isn’t the kind of person who will just stand idly by whilst someone else is in danger and we’ve seen this characteristic over and over throughout the seasons. In season one when he broke his hand breaking the ice to save Cheryl and even in season 3 when he saves Hiram’s life even after everything Hiram put him through and even though he was considering killing him himself when it came down to it he saved him. So to me his decision to run into that building was very in character for him, its just who he is. It is Archie’s actions here that ultimately inspires Chief Russell to help. Also I do feel like it was Archie’s army buddy, Eric’s story about Archie saving his life that inspires the boys to want to help. It’s almost like Archie has become this beacon of hope for the people of Riverdale and somebody for them to look up to. On a slight side note here I have seen that some fans aren’t happy that Archie is being depicted as a hero and I’m not sure what that stems from whether its a case of they don’t like Archie as a character or another reason but it does to me seem like a bit of an odd thing to get mad about, I mean saying you hate a character because they are too good a person is a little bizarre to me. But like I said I don’t know what their reasons for not liking him are so I’m not going to say they are wrong everyone is entitled to their opinion but me personally I think every story needs a villain and a hero and to me Archie has always from season one been depicted in the role of the hero of the story so the fact that they are having him as the one who is the driving force behind saving Riverdale/ the hero makes perfect sense to me.
I did find it amusing I suppose you could say that his army buddy Eric knew exactly what he was about to do when Arch decides to enter that building to save Earl and even says ‘Sarge don’t even think about it.” It shows not only that Eric has come to know Archie well during the time in the army but that this rushing in to save people is something that he did often in the army too. I will admit that I am liking Eric’s character so far. Like I said its obvious he and Archie became good friends and we know a little about their backstory and we know that Archie saved Eric’s life when he was hit by a grenade. He seems like a genuine guy and he was  willing to help Archie out with the firehouse no questions asked. But we begin to see in this episode that he is struggling with somethings. There were a couple times this episode where my heart really went out to this guy. The first was in the hospital when he says ‘what the hell are we fighting for over there if this is what happens to us when we come home?’ This is an important subject that I do think needs to be discussed how veterans are treated when they return home, what help do they get, and do they get enough help? I can’t speak for America as I’m not from there but I still think its relevant questions to be asking whatever country you are in. Another time when my heart went out to him was that scene near the end of the episode where we see that he is very upset having heard that Earl had not made it. Understandably he is very angry about this particularly towards Hiram. Archie has to stop him from going and killing Hiram and they both break down. This was actually one of my favourite moments in the episode because of how emotional it is. It is obvious that Eric very much feels like he doesn’t matter, that the war he fought in was for nothing, he needs help but just when he thought he had a lifeline in the VA home he has it snatched away. He’s very lost and I think he’s been feeling very alone in that feeling until he realises that Archie is also struggling. Archie admits that the reason he is throwing himself into fixing Riverdale is because it’s the only thing keeping him sane. He too feels lost and I thought it was so sad when he said his friends don’t know because they wouldn’t understand. I think he confesses to Eric because he knows Eric will understand.
One thing I will say on this subject though is that one other person that I think would understand is Betty who is also going through something very similar. I don’t think its a coincidence that in this episode they bring back up both of their traumas. I suspect at some point Betty and Archie will have a conversation about their trauma and the PTSD they are both suffering as a result. I think they could both help the other heal and deal. But I also think Betty could be a second source of support for Eric and I think it would be interesting to see those two interact. Just like I think she would understand what Archie is going through I think she would understand what Eric is going through too.
I do think ultimately that Eric will likely go down a dark path due to his trauma, I think this is likely to be manipulated by Hiram as Eric does seem to still have a lot of anger. I do hope though that someone will be able to pull him back from that and help him. Obviously veterans and PTSD are very sensitive subjects, so far I think they’ve handled it well and hope they continue to tell this story with all the sensitivity it deserves.
Veronica, Riverdollars and a possible Varchie reunion?
So in my last review I did say that I haven’t really been enjoying Veronica’s storylines this season, however I actually enjoyed her storyline this episode. I’ll be real I do not know enough about economics to really understand how the whole Riverdollars thing works but I can understand the basics of if you print your own money, and you spend it in your town at local businesses then that’s going to create some kind of money flow/ economy within the town. Essentially it creates a new currency for the town. The more businesses that get involved and the more that they spend the more that it circulates. It seemed like it was a good idea and I kind of understood the basics of it, I think. What I think is especially clever of her is that if I have understood this correctly then the fact that the Riverdollars can only be spent in Riverdale means Hiram can’t then funnel it out of Riverdale and into SoDale because in SoDale its just paper and completely valueless. So not only has Veronica created money for the economy she’s done it in a way that protects the economy from Hiram. I will it admit I found it kind of funny that she printed it with her own face on them but she is a strong confident woman so why the hell not. Once again I do think Jughead was the voice of the audience when he asked ‘Why’s Veronica printing monopoly money with her face on it?’ Seriously Juggie had some great lines this episode. But going back to Veronica and her storyline. So at first it seems like her scheme is working really well. The kids are restoring her Jewellery shop and getting paid with Riverdollars which they are then spending at Pop’s and the Bijou (which I did forget what that was but then remembered its the cinema.) Tabitha pays Jughead with some of the Riverdollars and he also spends it at the Grey Wrym and so the money is circulating. Then Veronica goes back to her students and explains the next step is to introduce more money but a little at a time as too fast will cause the opposite effect and cause an economic collapse. It’s then that Hiram shows up at her class, seriously though what is with the controlling, power hungry men in her life just randomly showing up in her classes when she’s trying to just do her job? Hiram is his usual villainess self until Veronica finally tells him to do what she should have a very long time, take a hike. But later when she is doing the accounting she discovers that her numbers aren’t adding up. I love when she says her numbers always add up, I just love the confidence she has in herself its a nice to see a woman owning that confidence. Anyway she realises that someone has been flooding the economy with money that she didn’t print which devalues the money she did. Obviously this leads her to believe that Hiram has been printing money to sabotage her. But we later find out that it was actually the kids in her class getting a little too zealous and printing 10000 new notes instead of 1000 which caused the economy to collapse. What I do find interesting about this though is why Hiram let Veronica believe it was him? Was just so she would feel like he had beat her? Although I did like when she said ‘As Archie would say, Daddy, you suck.’ I just thought that line was really funny.
I do wonder where they are going to take the Riverdollars thing from here, whether it was just for this episode or whether they are going to make a reappearance. Veronica did say that for the moment the operation needed to be shut down as they recollected all the Riverdollars in circulation. But that was before she found out that there were ten thousand extra. Like I said I don’t know much about economics but is it possible they could just recall the ten thousand and continue with the original 50000?
On top of her money scheme Veronica was helping Archie out a little with getting the Fire Department restarted. There was quite a bit of Varchie in this episode. So does that mean that there is going to be a Varchie reunion in the near future. Well I could see it going one of two ways. Either yes they get back together as a romantic couple in the next few episodes or this is a huge red herring or bait and switch. So lets look at the Varchie content in this episode and see if we can get any idea of which way it’ll go. The first moment we have actually doesn’t have Veronica in the scene and its when Jughead and Archie are talking in the beginning and Archie calls her Ronnie and Jughead makes a comment about it claiming it was interesting that Archie was calling her Ronnie. So on the surface this does seem interesting, Ronnie was the pet name he called her when they were together so it would be understandable to think that if he’s calling her that its because he’s re-catching feelings for her and this is obviously what Jughead seems to think is happening. However it might not be the case it could just be that he is in the habit of calling her that. I mean when you get used to calling someone by a nickname of any kind it is hard to stop referring to them that way. Also it would be natural I think for Jughead to be curious if feelings between them are resurfacing considering how serious their relationship was back in high school. But it could also be that Jughead is more surprised that Archie and Veronica are already so comfortable with each other again so soon when he is clearly, considering he hasn’t really be around her, still struggling to be on even friendly terms with Betty. So it might not be him wondering if they have feelings for each other and more surprise that they are even friends. It is worth noting that Archie doesn’t say anything in response. This could be because he is diverting Jughead away from the subject because he does have feeling for Veronica and is embarrassed or whatever or it could be he doesn’t want it to lead to too many questions which might lead to him having to reveal he is sleeping with Jughead’s ex.
The next scene is when they are in the staff room together and are filling each other in on their progress. Veronica explains that her father is denying setting the Andrews house on fire and Archie explains that the Chief isn’t going to help. To me this scene did feel more friendly than anything else. I’ve made it no secret that I wasn’t the biggest fan of Varchie’s relationship when they were together but I am enjoying these scenes they’ve been having together where they are friends and talking about things together.
But If any scene had any romantic notions about it was most likely the last one where Veronica shows up with the fire truck and says something along the lines of ‘anything for you Archie.’ Again I personally didn’t see anything romantic about this, to me it seemed more friendly/ more her wanting to help. But I could see why others might see it as something romantic than the other scenes. I do think it’s worth noting that whilst Archie might call her Ronnie she doesn’t call him Archiekins which is the pet name she had for him. Which would again to me make me think her anything comment was more friendly. It is also worth noting that all throughout the episode it did seem like the writers wanted us to think of Varchie as a unit. There was quite a bit of ‘you and Archie’ comments and Veronica making references to Archie and Archie making references to Veronica.
Ok so do I think that means that we are getting a Varchie reunion? In all honestly I actually think this is more likely to be bait and switch. I think the writers are trying very hard to make us think that something is happening between them but ultimately I don’t think it will come to anything. At least not yet I’m not saying never. But as of the moment I think there is still too much unexplored with Barchie and also with Veronica and Chad. I mean we still don’t know a lot about Chad and Veronica’s backstory and their marriage. The fact that he is in the next episode is an indication that despite Veronica sending him away in episode 6 he is still very much in the picture. Also although there wasn’t any Barchie scenes in this episode the last time we saw them things were still very heated between them and very much on. So I just think its too early and there are too many things unresolved/ still developing elsewhere. Also another big part is because there have been alot of comments from RAS and other writers about things deepening between Barchie, things going to the next level and all this stuff which hasn’t happened yet. But I’m also not stupid and I know that sometimes Riverdale tend to rush storylines so I’m not ruling it out completely. To be honest it could go either way.
Betty and the Swamp Bodies.
With Betty we kick off right where we left off with them talking to good old Dr Curdle Jr about the body they found. As predicted it’s not Polly’s, this body is 3 years old and she’s only been gone a week. Curdle tells Betty that the girl was killed by blunt force trauma to the head and that as the body is a Jane Doe it’ll be sent to the crematorium. Here’s the thing, blunt force trauma to the head suggests murder. Now I’m not an expert on American laws around what happens to human remains but I find it hard to believe that if a murder victims body was found that within a day of finding it the remains would be destroyed purely because they are unidentified. I mean surely the police or FBI would be called in to investigate the murder and see if the body can be identified before they destroy the only evidence they have? But again I guess that is Riverdale logic.
After doing some digging Betty finds out that there was one missing girl, Margaret. However Margaret had braces and this Jane Doe doesn’t meaning there’s three missing girls. Except as the audience we also know that Squeaky is missing so technically at this point 4 missing girls. Betty speaks with Margaret’s mother and finds out that she was hanging around the truckers which obviously links Margaret back to Polly’s case. We also find out that Toni had tried to help a troubled Margaret. It was a really small scene but I liked seeing Betty and Toni interact. I also like who lots of different people are helping with all the storylines even if it is in a small kind of way. Everyone is involved in the Save Riverdale storyline. In Polly’s missing plotline we’ve had Betty, Alice, Kevin, Sheriff Keller, Dr Curdle jr and Toni. As I always say I think it makes it more interesting when there are more people involved as it stops it from becoming too stale seeing the same characters doing the same things over and over. Toni lends the Serpents to Betty to help her search the swamp and so with no other leads they head back to the swamp with a search party. At least until Hiram shows up and pulls a Shrek on them demanding they get out of his swamp. Also this is very much a cultural difference I know but I always find it I don’t know kind of crazy when landowners show up with guns and threaten people off their property or else because in the UK you are not allowed to use weapons when dealing with trespassers, you can remove them with reasonable force but if you showed up and threatened a trespasser with a gun you yourself would find yourself in some pretty hot water. But it is something I see alot on American TV shows and I know the laws surrounding gun ownership and defence of property  are different but I don’t know enough about it to know if this is accurate to those laws or not. I mean would Hiram have gotten in trouble if he had shot at one of them if they refused to get off his land? Anyway I’ve gone completely off subject here so bringing it back. I did find Hiram’s reasoning here more than a bit ridiculous I mean the guy gets told that a body has been found on his land that a missing girls phone has been found there and he’s just like ‘yeah but this is where I’m building my turnpike.’ I mean a turnpike and someone’s life are on slightly different levels when all things are considered but I guess that's just more of Hiram being a dick. However I did think it was fair for him to call out Betty when she tried to use her FBI badge to declare it a crime scene. Thing is Hiram has dealt with the FBI enough in the past to know what the rules are and what powers they do and don’t have. But I also don’t really blame Betty for trying it, she’s trying to find her sister and is obviously frustrated when Hiram won’t even let them search the property for her. But I do think she needed the calling out to be honest.
Also her being called out is what leads to her calling Glen in the hope that he will send an agent down who can makes the swamp a crime scene. We learn that TBK has shown back up and has two more victims under his belt. This scene was really heart breaking to watch though. Lili’s acting was amazing, just watching her crumble as she hears the news and seeing the effect it has on her and the fear, how it triggers the flashbacks. It was so upsetting to watch and I think that moment really does show just how broken Betty is. Betty tells Glen to focus on TBK and she’ll deal with Polly’s case on her own. I think the fact that she immediately throws herself back into the case and goes down to the swamp shows that Betty, like Archie is with the saving riverdale thing, is using this case to help her cope with or distract her from the PTSD that she is suffering.
Which brings me to her scene with Reggie. So last episode I was so mad at Reggie what with him setting fire to Archie’s home. But this episode I am more conflicted. In episode 5 I said that I felt like that even though he was working with Hiram it seemed like Reggie wasn’t entirely happy about being on an opposite side to his friends or that he wasn’t entirely comfortable with the things he was doing. This is another instance where I feel like he has a lot of sympathy for Betty and doesn’t agree with Hiram preventing them from searching the land. He, after making it clear that Hiram can’t find out, tells her about the body he found. But he take sit further than that later when he is talking to Hiram. I say talking but lets be real he manipulated Hiram into doing what he wanted. I thought it was interesting that Reggie knew exactly what to say to bend Hiram to his own wishes. He clearly wanted to help Betty and so he says to Hiram you could use this as an opportunity to be seen as the hero. That the turnpike can afford to be delayed and that Hiram will benefit more from letting the Coopers search the land. I do wonder if this is something that we will see more of. I could see Reggie becoming something of a double agent in the fight to save Riverdale. I do think that Reggie seeing his friends return is making things more complicated for him as its no longer just faceless strangers that are being effected by his actions but people he considers friends that he is hurting. I reckon we will see more of this conflict with Reggie as the season goes on. Another point of interest is that we learn in this scene that SoDale and the turnpike are actually a smoke screen for some other plan Hiram has. I am curious to know what other dastardly things Hiram is hiding up his sleeve.
Going back to Betty we discover that the newest body found is Margaret’s, we also learn that she suffered severe trauma or as Dr Curdle Jr put it ‘the left side of her body was pulverised.’ To me this sounds like she was hit by a truck. So does this mean that this serial killer is killing by either running the girls over with his truck or by chasing them and hitting them over the head with something? We also learn that in total there are 21 missing girls who could be linked to the case. I am still very curious about this storyline. I am definitely invested in it. I don’t really have any theories on who I think the killer is which is unusual for me because I always have at least a few. But that’s actually making me enjoy the storyline more because I am struggling to put all the pieces together so that makes me want to know more. We still don’t know whose body was found first. We know who it isn’t, its not Polly because it’s three years old and Polly has only been missing a week. We also know its not Squeaky because she went missing only a few days to a week before Polly. I do wonder if it’ll turn out to be someone we have met before or just a stranger like Margaret.
Jughead and Close Encounters.
Another mystery that I am enjoying is this whole Mothmen/ Alien storyline. Jughead finds out from a news article that years previously a strange encounter happened at Pop’s where strange lights were seen in the sky. Jughead interviews Pop and we get a flashback to Pop’s youth. I loved this flashback, seeing a young Pop Tate was great. I mean there is no denying that what happened was weird. First the electricals start acting up with the flickering lights, then the sweet dispenser starts spewing out its contents the creepiest thing was the toy monkey clapping, those things always creep me out. Then there bright lights appear in the sky. The whole thing screams aliens. Pop also tells Juggie and Tabs that Nana Rose was at the diner that night. Which was another cool thing to see a younger Nana Rose.
Of course Nana Rose has an alien mothman body perfectly preserved in maple syrup. I mean why wouldn’t she? I just love this woman. She also claims that she spoke to the mothman which tells us, whoever or whatever they are they can communicate. She tells us that they didn’t like that she had taken the body and that they came to get it back but she told them she had cremated it. We also know that an autopsy was preformed so I’m assuming that will show up at some point. We do get to see the body when its dropped off at Pop’s. It is obviously deformed. The plan is too call an anthropologist who is an expert in ancient cultures, urban legends and the extraterrestrial. But that’s when the really weird stuff starts to happen. Jughead offers to work the night shift and whilst alone in the diner at about 2 am the same thing that happened in the flashback. The lights flicker, the duke box plays, the sweet machine goes crazy. Jug goes outside and looking up at the sky sees a bright light. We then see him talking to Tabitha the next morning and he says after seeing the light he woke up in a booth at 6am with no recollection of where he had been. Tabitha is sceptical and asks if Jughead had been drinking. We have seen a few more hints towards his addiction this episode. We see him choosing to spend the Riverdollars at the bar and more telling is him putting alcohol in his coffee. I think Tabitha asking this shows that she has obviously picked up on this. What is even weirder about Jughead’s experience though is that when they go into the back room they discover that the mothman body is gone.
Ok so does this mean that Riverdale are going to be introducing aliens into the universe? To be honest I’m not sure but I’m leaning more towards no. I’m just not sure that as wacky as Riverdale is that they would go a supernatural kind of route. They’ve touched on the supernatural a little with the whole G&G deal in season 3 and with the possessed doll of Cheryl’s unborn brother. But every time there’s been a logical (well Riverdale logic kind of logical) explanation for it. I don’t think this will be any different and I actually think they gave us part of the explanation in this episode. Pop says that one of the theories about what happened was military testing at a base that was just outside of Riverdale. The thing that made season 1 good was that by the end of the season pretty much everyone had been tied into the mystery or was involved in some way. I think if this turns out to be something to do with the military then its a way of bringing Archie and Eric into the storyline about the mothman come the end of the mystery.
Toni and Cheryl.
Only Cheryl would challenge a pregnant woman to a dance off. Now I know how alot of people felt about the dance off, it was childish of Cheryl to have a dance of with a teen, it was cringey, the sound effects were terrible. Yes, yes you are all right that is exactly what that dance off was and you know what, that's the reason why I loved it. I was thoroughly entertained by it. I mean maybe I’m weird but I love it when Riverdale is well Riverdale and Cheryl is well Cheryl. I said last episode that Toni knew exactly what she was doing by restarting the Vixens, she knew it would anger Cheryl to the point of drawing her out. I do think having Cheryl involved in the Vixens was part of Toni’s plan but that it backfired a bit when Cheryl decided to go behind Toni’s back to schedule a practice without her. On a side note I did crack up at Cheryl saying ‘I’ve seen porcelain dolls possessed by my deceased brother move faster than you lot.’
I am glad that Toni called Cheryl out. I think Cheryl needed a bit of tough love and someone to kind of hit her round the face with the truth. However there was one thing that she said that left me a bit confused and I’m not sure if its a continuity error or if I have forgotten something, its been a while since I’ve watched all of the seasons so it could be something I’ve missed. Or I just misinterpreted what she meant. But she says ‘you’ve gotten away with murder in this town because of your money and your privilege.’ Now I know Cheryl has definitely been complicit in covering up murders but correct me if I’m wrong I don’t think she ever actually has murdered someone. The only instances I can think of that Toni can be referring to are Uncle Bedford and then the rest of the Blossom family. But Penelope killed the rest of the Blossom family Cheryl just kept it quiet. And well Toni killed Bedford. It just seems like a bit of an odd thing to call her out on when Toni herself has also got away with murder thanks to Cheryl’s privilege and money. Not that I blame Toni for any of that it was clearly self defence and we all know Toni would not have been treated justly if they had gone through the law enforcement. But it does make me think it could have been the writers messing up and that resulting in a continuity error I mean earlier in the episode Kevin said that his father served in the army when I am pretty sure it was actually his mother who was in the army. So maybe the writers got confused and thought Cheryl was the one who killed Bedford I mean she was definitely the mastermind behind the covering up of his murder. Or is it a case of Cheryl has killed someone in the time jump that we just don’t know about right now? Or is it just that Toni meant it more as a figure of speech as oppose to actual murder it is hard to tell in Riverdale?
I am also glad that Toni recognises that Cheryl has had a really tough time but that she doesn’t let Cheryl use that as an excuse to be abusive and horrid towards other because of it. I see it alot where people use the excuse that their life is falling apart or they are going through bad times and so that makes ok for them to mistreat others. It doesn’t. But I think in this moment Toni is really trying to get Cheryl to look at herself and face whatever it is that’s making her act this way. I do think more went on in the seven year time jump for Cheryl that we don’t know about. Cheryl is very clearly struggling and very clearly hurt when Toni calls her out and says that she is being vain and selfish. I also think Toni is desperate to get back the Cheryl she loves. I would like to see Cheryl begin to heal and for Toni to help her with that.
When Cheryl gets home its to find that Ms Marble is there and has discovered that the painting is a fraud. I am actually surprised at how quickly Cheryl got found out I thought that the storyline would be drawn out longer. However Ms Marble didn’t call the authorities which makes me think she’s got a scheme/ motives of her own. It does look like from the promo that she is co hosting the party that Cheryl throws which is interesting. I personally think that Ms Marble is going to have Cheryl make the forgeries for her.
Well that’s all I have for now. I am going to post my theories for the next episode but in a separate post because this one is getting way too long.
