Well obviously I'm going to have to ask for a Blackwall/El prompt. How about ❛ you’re welcome to stay, if you want. ❜ for these two loves 👀💗
thank you lucky!! this is the first thing i've ever written for dragon age: inquisition 🥰 @dadrunkwriting i haven't finished the game yet, but i love this guy~
rated t, 1084 words. early blackwall/lavellan.
⊹ ⊹ ⊹
Inquisitor. That's who she was now. Not Ellana, not El, not da'len. But Inquisitor, Herald, Mistress, Lady... titles as foreign to her as the religion she was now a figurehead for.
The celebrations were neverending. Skyhold's crumbling halls were packed full of people from Haven; pilgrims; and refugees from elsewhere certain that Inquisitor Lavellan would protect them with divine blessing. A meagre feast had been prepared, the ale was flowing freely, and there'd been lots of speeches and idolising stares.
Creators, the way that everybody looked at her made El feel sick. They weren't really looking at her. They stared through her, they saw things that weren't there. She wondered if any of them even knew her first name.
As the night pressed on, she receded further and further into the shadows, bit by bit. Slipping out of a conversation here, declining a drink there. As a hunter, she knew how to go unnoticed, and though it was considerably harder now than it ever had been, she still managed.
By midnight, El had left with a good old Dalish goodbye.
It was so much quieter as soon as she stepped into the night. A crisp breeze blew by, and it smelled of rain. She looked up, and the dark sky promised it too. There were no stars to guide her way, no moon, but lit torches buoyed across the grounds to light her way well enough.
Whenever El felt stressed back with her clan, she tended to go to the halla. They were good listeners, and always a comforting presence. The Inquisition had no halla, but the stables were the next best thing. She descended the steps two, three at a time, striding her way over in her naturally quick pace. Her friends always laughed and asked what she was running from. She supposed this time she actually had an answer.
Most of the horses were asleep, but she smiled and waved at them anyway, peering over into their pens. There was, of course, one that was awake.
El leaned back against a stable beam, and smiled. "Hello."
The bog unicorn never slept. It stared at her in a way that unnerved everybody else. Maybe because it didn't have any eyes to do the staring with. Maybe because of the rusty sword through its head. Humans were so judgemental.
"People think they know all about you too, don't they?" she asked, cocking her head to look the creature over. "But you're a good girl."
"Thank you."
El jumped out of her skin at the deep voice that answered her, and she whirled around to see Blackwall leaning against the door jamb, smirking at her.
"Warden Blackwall!" she exclaimed, flushing pink.
"I apologise, my lady," he said, sounding as grave as ever.
"Why aren't you at the party?" she asked.
"Why aren't you?"
"Fair enough," she mumbled, dropping her gaze. She couldn't help but peek at him though. El didn't know much about the Warden, but he held her on as high a pedestal as the others did, except for Solas. Though Blackwall was a bit more... bold.
You're unlike any woman I've ever met. You have the world at your feet, myself included.
There was something about him that El felt drawn to. His voice was deep and warm, his face was weathered, his eyes haunted... he was older, probably by about fifteen years, maybe more. Miralras would tease her to no end, she was sure. Even so, El's heart fluttered in her chest every time Blackwall looked her way.
"My lady," he said lowly, a voice like rolling thunder. "Are you alright?"
She met his eyes properly. Fuck, he was so kind. So sweet and seemingly shy until he flirted with her in public and immediately looked as though he was surprised he'd let himself talk.
His pale eyes pierced hers, and she suddenly felt more vulnerable than she had standing at the top of that forsaken fortress, with everyone bowing down to her.
"I was trying to pick a name for the bog unicorn," El said loudly, snapping her focus back to the thin creature in front of her.
Blackwall didn't answer right away. He knew she was avoiding the question, but she stubbornly kept her eyes front and centre anyway.
"...What about Rusty?" he suggested eventually, and El sagged in relief.
"What, because of the sword sticking out of her face? Bit harsh," she laughed.
"Alright. Ginger."
"I was thinking that, actually," El smiled, approaching the bog unicorn slowly. "But in Elvish, Sinsir."
She held out her hand, and the horse gently pushed her nose into it.
"Or maybe Sansal," she said, stroking along her rough snout. "Banralon, or Banra for short. Thelga... Ghiladin..."
A pause.
"...They all mean ginger?" Blackwall asked.
El laughed. And not one of her pretty ones that usually came out when she fancied someone, but an ugly, snorting thing. She looked at him in embarrassment, but he wasn't laughing at her, or looking in shock. He smiled at her warmly, and looked so... soft.
"No," she chuckled one last time as her laughter trailed off, and she smiled at him, lowering her voice. "They mean shadow blessing. Shadow friend. Safe spirit. And the dead guide."
"Ah," he murmured, holding her gaze. "For the sword sticking out of her face."
El laughed again. "I suppose you're right."
Silence fell between them again, heavy and awkward with avoided conversation. The wind had turned colder, and El shivered in the ugly beige clothes she'd been given. Hideous and impractical. Just like the Chantry. She sighed.
"You don't have to go back, my lady," Blackwall muttered. He pushed off the door jamb.
"Don't I?" El asked, turning to face him properly, looking up at him. They were in that strange liminal space that felt so exciting and so anxiety-inducing at the same time. Not close enough to cause a scandal, but close enough to see the grey hairs in his beard. Quiet, with words on the tips of their tongues but it wasn't the time, wasn't the place, it wasn't appropriate. El was no fool, she knew when someone was attracted to her.
And Warden Blackwall was certainly attracted to her.
"There are plenty more mounts to name," he muttered.
Why did that make her blush? Oh, she could practically hear Miralras ripping into her.
"If you're lucky, I'll let you name one," she tried, grinning.
A smirk spread slowly across his face.
"Then I hope I'm lucky, my lady."

Since this post got some notes, here are the first two chapters of my first fanfic, Good Cookies, edited and reposted on AO3. I have also started writing another chapter for it and I have ideas for more. I will try to keep to a regular posting schedule, but I'm not making any promises, lol.
Special thanks to @the-kingbo for beta reading these chapters <3
Let me know what you all think of it. Comments, Kudos, Likes and Reblogs are all super appreciated.
Preview of Chapter One under the cut.
Sera was lounging at her usual table in the Tavern in Haven, nursing an ale and slightly scowling at her mug as she tried to make sense of her conflicting feelings toward the Dalish Herald of Andraste. She was confused by Lavellan and how the other elf treated her.
She was different than other Dalish elves Sera had met, she never talked down to her or acted superior to her in any way but Sera still didn't know what to make of her. She treated everyone the same and never made her feel bad for not being elfy like Solas did. But Ellana Lavellan was still a Dalish elf and that told Sera that she should not let her guard down too quickly around her.
Ellana was not really serious like most other elfy elves. She liked to laugh and joke around almost as much as Sera did. She even made an awkward joke when they first got a chance to have some one on one time in Haven's tavern. That whole conversation had left Sera feeling a little confused about Ellana and her intentions towards her. She was sure that Ellana had been trying to flirt with her. She had said that she enjoyed having her around but the slight smirk and the look in her eyes made it pretty clear that she was hoping they could be more than friends.
Sera wasn't usually interested in other elves and she would deny it vehemently if anyone said otherwise, but she couldn't deny that she was attracted to Ellana. She had told the Herald "Maybe" when she had flirted with her. She didn't want to show her emotions too soon and get attached to Ellana before she got to know her better.
As Sera was lost in thought, Ellana came strolling into the tavern and made her way towards the bar to get a drink. She caught Sera's eyes and her eyes lit up, a large grin crossing her face. Sera couldn't help but grin back at her, Ellana seemed to have that effect on people.

9 for the artist one and Symbols for the OC asks? 😙
Link to artist meme | Link to OC asks
9. What are your file name conventions
If I'm using Procreate then it's just "Untitled Artwork [number]" 🤣 Changing file name on Procreate is such a pain, and I often import to Photoshop/SAI for post rendering anyway. On PC it would be something like "[topic]_[recipient if any]_[brainstorm/sketch/color/rendering/final]_[number]_[transparent background or no, or any other sliiiight variation]".
Symbols. Does your OC have symbolic features? Do they like symbols? Or maybe they are the symbol.
I'm not sure for whom the question is intended, so I'm answering for multiple OCs - nothing too big brain, but more like design notes & stuffs.
Cirilla Hawke:
I tend to draw her hair fluffy like a big black cloud, a light play on the "head in the clouds" saying, as she tends to daydream and get lost in her own thoughts when she doesn't have to worry about survival (also it floats so prettily).
The golden earring she wears on her left ear is supposed to be a token from her runaway past (before the Blight), when she left the house to be an apostate on her own.
She also wears the Amell family crest on her belt, it's to warn off random strangers from fucking with her on the streets, but also a nod toward her dedication to her family.
The blood swipe - she only puts it on after her first kill (as a general gesture for "I'm about to fuck shit up so bad"), but otherwise doesn't wear it. So if you see her with the swipe, it's because she drew blood that day.
Tumblr media
Naril, Neria, Vy, Ellana & Edra under the cut!
Tumblr media
Naril Brosca
She always wears a scarf outside of her armor and on the field - can be multiple colors, multiple styles. The first one she ever got was from her sister before she left for the Wardens - she ruined it so quickly due to how much she wore it. Rica gifted her a bunch of new ones during the Orzammar arc, with a reassurance that she will always get her a new scarf as soon as the old one wears out. It is a symbol of love never running out.
Tumblr media
Neria Surana
The brooch she wears on her formal cape is a symbol of the Circle engulfed in flames. Mostly a petty reminder of the failed promise to dissolve the Ferelden Circle. Pisses Irving & Wynne off whenever they meet again, which is an interesting change because she was their prized pupil, once.
Tumblr media
Vy Hawke
She wears little flowers on her head (stolen from the viscount's garden), as a token of her friendship with Merrill. Also everything about her is clean and neat and well-organized, to the best of her capacity.
Tumblr media
Ellana & Edra Lavellan (the twinnies)
I gave them opposing palettes, mostly to match their personalities, but honestly now that I've went through multiple playthroughs with them I think they both have the same major traits that are just manifested differently. Still, ya, red & pink for Edra, blue & grey for Ellana. Ellana also wears halla ear pieces, to signify that she's First of the Clan.

Linger
Author’s notes:
This is my first inquisition fanfiction, and I finally got enough courage to write about Sollavelan, my favorite ship. I hope you like it.
Please, consider that in this story, Lavellan is a warrior and I used the standard name given by the game: Ellana. Also, I came up with the general concept of the story with the song Linger by the Cranberries, although it’s no necessarily an ost or a songfic, but the melody could set the mood.
Enjoy!
Before
Chaos, destruction, uncertainty and fear was what the breach in the veil caused, not only in Thedas, but the rest of the world as well, along with its inhabitants. The world had never faced such catastrophe before, which is saying a lot in a realty where the blight, demons and wars are constant worries.
It seemed that it actually was the end of the world, and in the middle of all confusion, Ellana Lavellan was surprised, while fighting for her life along with Cassandra, by a hand firmly holding her wrist.
“Quickly, before more come through!” with an urgent voice, an elf that she had never seen before took her hand, pointing it towards the rift above them. Everything happened so fast, that the only thing Ellana remembers from that moment, was the tickling in her hand when she closed the rift.  That and the elf’s gaze: Solas, whose eyes conveyed peace and certainty.
She was confused; how could she had closed the rift when she was no mage?
Solas’ theory turned out to be quite convincing and his kind attitude towards Ellana transmitted her trust. That was the exact moment when her interest towards the apostate began, and without knowing it, she had the same effect on him.
In retrospective, it’s possible that the inquisitor romanticized the memories of their first meeting, but she is still pretty sure that, the moment their eyes met, her heart beat faster.
At first, Solas was rather private and wary with everyone around him, including Ellana, but slowly, the mage got a pleasant surprise when he found out she was genuinely interested in what he had to say, his experiences in the fade, his dreams and elven ancient history, and without noticing, he began to see her differently.
In many occasions he caught himself looking at her, when his eyes lingered more than necessary on her expression when she spoke or thought carefully about something; her hair moving while she fought or the wind made it dance exquisitely, or even her figure when she walked in front of him during expeditions, and when she casually passed by his post in Haven, heading to talk with Dorian, smoothly wiggling her hips, so attractive in his eyes. Sometimes he felt rather disappointed when he realized he was not the one she was coming to see… at last at first.
Lavellan tried to be as discreet as possible, deliberately avoiding looking at Solas when he walked around Haven, or during a mission in Redcliff or Creestwood, but when she spoke with him, it was impossible to not notice the freckles on his nose or the was his eyes lightened when he talked about the veil, not to mention his smile, which she unconsciously imitated when she saw it, doing her best efforts to not let her eyes linger too much on his lips.
And all those glances didn’t go unnoticed by Varric, who as a good writer, took note of all those longing gazes, full of desire and flirt, despite their best efforts to not being so obvious with their persisting eyes, always on each other.
For Solas, Ellana Lavellan was a thought that used to slip into his mind during the most inconvenient times: before falling asleep, while he was taking a hike or even traveling in the fade, imagining that maybe someday he could show her those places he visited during his dreams, ruins that told wonderful stories of the past, images lost in time, which could get a different meaning with her company.
On the other hand, she constantly thought about new and interesting questions for him, so she could listen to his voice and tales, wondering what could be interesting for him or a way to get his attention; a small distraction in the middle of all that was happening in Thedas.
Later came the innocent and accidental touches, when one of them passed next to the other too close during a hike in the woods and their hands brushed for an instant that lingered too much, or when one of them needed a potion and their fingers briefly met, both elves trying to make the moment last for as long as they could, until one afternoon after closing a rift with particularly violent and vicious demons, Solas ended up hurt. Being at least a day away from the next village, without enough healing items and him being the only mage in the party, everyone had to tend to their wounds without the help of magic.
Once the camp was set, Cassandra and Varric took care of their own wounds on their legs and arms, while Ellana took care of Solas, who apparently had a deep cut on his back. At first, she was worried about how bad the wound could be, but when the mage took off his tunic and shirt, she immediately wanted to run her fingertips along his back. With slow movements, she cleaned the injury and when it stopped bleeding, she made sure to apply an ointment that could inhibit the pain, her fingers softly touching the mage’s skin, feeling the warmth on his back, which she though was the result of the wound and the pain he was feeling. Nevertheless, the truth was different. Solas shivered very time the other elf’s fingers softly touched his shoulder and upper back, forgetting about the pain for a moment and enjoying her touch, careful and delicate.
He was sure his blush showed on his face and ears, and was silently grateful their companions were rather busy patching up their own wounds and cuts. He wished the contact with the girl continued longer. Solas enjoyed every chill and goose bump he felt, keeping it in his memory forever, while she tried to make the moment last for as long as she could, her fingers lingering on his back.
One night, it was Ellana’s turn to watch over the camp, while the rest of the party slept, but the presence of the elven apostate remained until very late hours, next to her and the fire. He didn’t take his turn to sleep, exchanging it for the chance to enjoy the girl’s company. And then he thought he was unnecessarily lingering there, with her. A luxury he could enjoy once in a while, appeasing his fears of loneliness.

I think i need to write an eternal sunshine of the spotless mind/dragon age crossover AU, where lavellan asks cole to erase her relationship with solas from both of their minds (lmao i guess cole will have to be op as hell to overpower the DREADWOLF’s memory but we’ll get to that later)...
or maybe ellana will settle with only her forgetting, because solas seems to be doing just fine “hardening his heart to a cutting edge”, even without a little magical memory modification (*cries softly to lost elf theme*)
I can’t decide if I want it completely divorced from the lore, since this could be an angsty and necessary post-trespasser/da:d coping fic????? but full AU could be cool too since then it’d be easier to give them a happy ending?? and the thought of writing them finding each other out in the modern world and falling in love all over again anyway ugh woerigeworhgeir the FEELS. maybe i just do both?

Domaystic day 4!
Prompt: First night
Fandom: Dragon Age
Pairing: Solas/Ellana, Solas/Lavellan, Solavallen
Rating G:
Modern day AU
-
"So you're telling me you want to leave at five am."
Solas sighed at the red light they had been stuck at for two cycles now. "Yes, Ellana. We need to leave then so we can be there by eight."
"Three hours seems like a long time to drive somewhere," she complained, putting her foot up on the dash. She wiggled her toes when he frowned at it.
"I have to get up earlier than you, to be able to pick you up on time," he pointed out calmly. They finally made the turn across traffic and were able to continue their drive to Solas' apartment.
Ellana sighed and put her foot back down, sliding it into her scuffed sneaker. "But why does it take three hours to drive to the park? Izzy said it would take an hour!"
"Isabela doesn't obey traffic laws," he answered, pulling into his garage and shutting the car off, "and she's counting from the edge of the city. We have to get out of downtown and through the suburbs before we can get to that point."
Solas popped the trunk and pulled her duffle bag out. She grabbed the two reusable grocery bags and the jug of milk before he could, smiling at his raised eyebrow. Closing the trunk, he gestured for her to go first.
"So when would we have to leave if we didn't have to go through all that?" Ellana asked, trying to sound casual, "If we were leaving from here maybe?"
There was silence behind her for a moment, long enough that she began to regret her life choices, before Solas finally answered. "Probably six thirty, at the latest."
"That's an improvement, I guess."
"Yes."
They reached his door, and Ellana stepped aside to let him unlock it. He held it open for her, and she went directly to the island to put the bags down before turning back to get hers from him.
"I'm gonna shower, if that's alright?"
Solas waved a hand at her, seemingly already focused on getting dinner ready.
The bathroom was cold, as always, and she sighed as she took her work clothes off and shivered. She pulled one of her towels out of the cabinet and checked to make sure that her shampoo and conditioner were still in there. One time Solas had cleaned the bathroom and forgotten to put them back. He didn't have hair to wash, after all.
Everything in order, she quickly washed and rinsed before getting out and into her comfy clothes. Solas only had the one bathroom, and she didn't want to hog it taking a long shower like she did at her place. She came out, fluffing her still drying hair, to find Solas sitting at the island reading.
"Why do you sit there when you've got that giant couch?"
He looked at her over his reading glasses. "The lighting is better here."
Ellana sighed and went to the closet holding his washer and dryer. Tossing her clothes in, she checked if it was full enough to start. It wasn't, so she closed the door and went back to the kitchen.
"Were you asking to stay the night, earlier?" He asked. She knew he was serious because he'd closed the book and set it down.
Hesitating, Ellana slowly nodded. "It would be easier, yeah? And then we'd get to sleep later too."
"Do you need anything from your apartment?"
"I think I've still got some clothes here?"
"You do, yes."
She shrugged. "Then no, I don't need to get anything else."
He hummed acknowledgement and got up to check on dinner.
Ellana felt weird watching him putt around the kitchen, so she went to the living room to plop on the couch. Still amused that he didn't have any form of streaming, she started flipping through the TV guide to find something to watch.
After a few minutes he joined her, lifting her legs up to sit and then setting them back down on his lap. "What trainwreck are we watching tonight?"
"Don't know yet," she answered with a laugh, determined to find something particularly painful for them to watch now. "Yeah!"
"What?" He asked, looking up from the book he'd brought with him. Sighing when he saw the show she was choosing, he resumed reading.
"Oh come on! Everyone likes Ancient Elvhen!"
"They do not."
"Oh piff. Just because you don't like it-"
"The ratings are terrible-"
Ellana blew a raspberry at him and turned the volume up. He steadfastly pretended to ignore it, but he would let out the occasional scoff whenever the show claimed something particularly egregious. The timer chimed from the kitchen and Solas lifted her legs out of the way to get off the couch again.
It took until they were mostly done with dinner for Ellana to realize that she didn't know where she was going to sleep. This was going to be her first night staying over. She knew normally the visiting partner would just sleep in the other one's bed, but they hadn't really reached that stage in their relationship yet.
Solas must have also been thinking about it, because, as he was standing up to take his plate to the sink, he asked, "Would you prefer I sleep on the couch?"
"What? No! It's your bed?" She exclaimed, getting up from the table and helping to gather dishes."I'll sleep on the couch!"
"There's no reason-"
"Nu uh. Not sleeping in your bed, with or without you."
"I see," he said in such a flat tone that Ellana was certain she'd offended him.
"I don't mean- I'm not trying to be rude, ya know? I just-"
"It's fine."
"It's obviously not fine. I'm sorry. I'm not sure how to explain my feelings on this," she sighed as she grabbed his arm and pulled him to face her, "I'm sure your bed is great. It just feels weird to me. This situation, not your bed, I mean-"
"Ellana." Solas' hands carefully cradled her face. "I want you to be comfortable. If you don't want to sleep in my bed, then don't. I am not offended."
"But Solas-"
He pulled her into a hug and kissed the top of her head. Taking a deep breath, she let him rock them back and forth. Pulling away, she tilted her face up for a kiss. He obliged.
"I'm sorry-"
He kissed her again before letting her go. "What blanket would you like?"
Ellana followed him over to the closet and rifled through his sparse selection. "Solas."
"Yes?"
"These blankets are all terrible. What do you normally do with guests?"
"I typically don't have guests."
"Ah. Well, for future reference, these blankets suck," she laughed.
He took one from her and refolded it. "I don't see what the problem is, they are perfectly serviceable."
"They're thin and scratchy. And ugly. Are your blankets like this?"
"No."
"Let me see."
Solas shrugged, setting the folded blankets back where they belonged, and led her into his room. She stopped at the threshold and looked around. She'd never been in here before, though she'd snuck peeks inside whenever the door was open and he wasn't paying attention. The color scheme was identical to the rest of the apartment, muted earth tones, and the furniture matched what was in his office.
Holding a blanket up towards her, Solas chuckled when he realized what she was doing. "I'm afraid there's nothing of interest here."
Her eyes flickered towards the bed before she took the blanket from him. Blushing, she rubbed it between her fingers. "See, this is much nicer. Do you purposefully have scratchy blankets to dissuade guests?"
"Or perhaps to persuade them to join me?"
"Uhh-"
"I'm joking. Would you like a pillow as well?"
"Yes?"
He snorted and grabbed one of the two on the bed. "I'll change the pillowcase."
She followed him back to the closet and examined the other bedding. "The sheets and stuff are all fine. It's literally just the blankets. What do you have against comfy blankets?"
"Ellana-"
"It's so weird. Everything else around here is nice, but these blankets are shit. Did you get them from someone or something?"
Giving up and ignoring her prattling, Solas closed the door and returned to the couch. He started pulling the throw pillows off. "Perhaps you should get ready now? You can brush your teeth while I get this dealt with."
"I can make my own bed, Solas-"
"I've got it."
Ellana rolled her eyes. "I don't have a toothbrush here."
"There's a spare in the middle drawer."
"Alright," she sighed, knowing that more arguing was futile. By the time she was done with her modified bedtime routine, Solas had finished setting the couch up the way he wanted it and had changed into flannel pants and a soft looking Tshirt.
Ellana wished she had actual PJs, but her leggings and oversized long sleeved shirt were comfortable enough. She would have felt weird lying down while Solas was still up and about, so she tidied up her belongings and laid out her clothes for the morning.
She was standing by the couch when he came out, and they both stood there staring at each other. Eventually she laughed. "We're acting like idiots."
Solas smiled. "Perhaps."
"Do I get a goodnight kiss?" She asked, pretending to be coy.
Chuckling, he came to her side and gave her a peck on the cheek. "Good night, Ellana."
"Wait!"
"What?"
"What are you going to sleep with?" She held a corner of his blanket up. "You gave me yours."
He pointed towards the closet.
"We've already established that those are no good."
"I will be fine."
"Or-" She cut herself off and looked at the floor. "This is going to sound really stupid. But…"
"But?"
"Uh… You could sleep out here, with me?"
Refusing to look up, Ellana mentally called herself every form of idiot that she could think of while the silence stretched on. She knew the difference between sleeping in his bed with him versus sleeping on the couch with him really wasn't that big, but the bed scared her while the couch didn't.
"Alright."
She sighed in relief at his answer, but then looked at the couch to try and figure out the logistics. Solas apparently already had it figured out, though. He pulled the back cushions off, leaving just the bottom ones, and went to get his pillow.
She sat on the middle cushion to wait for his return, and jumped to her feet when he got back. "So who sleeps where?"
"Do you prefer the back or the edge?"
"Uhh… No preference?"
"I'll take the back, then," he said, setting his pillow at the end before laying down facing her.
Ellana blushed again, but lay down next to him. He put an arm around her waist and pulled her against his chest. "Is this alright?"
"Yeah?"
"You are certain?"
"Yes, Solas. I am very comfortable. Go to sleep."
He hummed and pressed his lips to her neck, just below her ear, and chuckled when she shivered. "Good night, Ellana."

So this is spoilery for anyone who hasn't finished Roses.
So I actually finished reading all of your fics maybe a month or so ago and I've just now gotten the courage (haha!) to send you a message about how good your writing is. I literally can't stop thinking about Roses and Papa Solas and how well you wrote each of the characters. Like I could actually see Bull and Sera and every one doing and saying the things that you wrote. It's like you manifested them. And Ellana is such a good character. A lot of people write their Lavellan to be perfect people that you could easily project onto (which I enjoy reading as well) but Ellana could be a real person. And you're writing was so smart! And everything obviously took a lot of planning. I was honestly floored by how Leliana basically lured Solas like that. I really can't wait to do what you do next. I feel like I want to say more but I don't know how to write it out. I could just fish on and on!
This made me cry today. Thank you, anon. :)
I don't get much traffic, so I think this may be the very first time I've ever had anyone come up into my ask box and fill it with this kind of deep interest and love and it's so incredibly validating. I often feel like the D-list actor at a con, standing among the giants of incredible talent and following, watching from the table nobody is lining up for. Messages like these that connect to the stupid amount of care and planning I put into Roses and Ellana as a character (and the planned next fic... which currently stands at about 20k-words-worth of just raw notes) absolutely fill me with joy.
My dude I could go on forever about this shit, answering OC questions and narrative stuff and having a ball, but nobody pops by to ask! Do not ever feel weird for going on. Comments like this one make me think that, just maybe, there are a handful that'll continue to follow what I throw out. It rekindles the waning faith in my ability to provide something that has any value to someone that isn't me.
Thank you, for real. This meant more than I can say. I very much appreciate you working up the courage -- it has made an impact.

Uh oh I’m thinking about my dragon age OCs and how much I love them again
actually I’m going to talk about them because nobody can stop me
Catriona Cousland: my OG DA:O Warden. Silver-tongued dual-wielding duelist and queen of Ferelden. Polite but cool, though she has a soft spot for Alistair and Ser Barksleigh. Losing her family the way she did left her a quiet shell of her former self for a while. Discovering her brother lived helped. She wrote to Liliana every other week until she left for her search for a cure to the calling.
Stephen Amell: built like an oak tree. naturally, he’s a spirit healer with only a couple of earth—based tricks for damage. a lover, not a fighter, he focused on buffing and protecting his allies the whole way. maybe that’s why he was drawn to Morrigan. They were a study in contrasts. He annoyed her with his soft heart until it turned toward her. Of course he searched for her. Of course he went with her through the eluvian. Of course they were happy.
Althea Hawke: I meant to try other Hawkes out all the way through, but my force mage purple Hawke ruined me for any others. She’s brash, sometimes rude without meaning to be. Somehow she and Fenris love each other to disgusting distraction.
Daphne Trevelyan: my BABY. Shy, unassuming, and never left the circle out of fear until the option fell upon her. She became a passionate advocate for mage rights and “one of the helpers,” like Mr Rogers called them. She and Cullen better be able to have a nice and boring life. She’s done playing the hero. Being Herald and then Inquisitor was never comfortable for her, though she got good at faking it due to exposure. She was particularly close with Dorian and, surprisingly, Vivienne.
Ellana Lavellan: my sad little archer. Naive and innocent but inclined to distrust non-elves, she immediately fell in with Solas — and had her heart crushed for it. Close with Cole and Varric, she turned them for support and it crumbled the last of her walls. Despite all that, she is a brilliant strategist, and she’s hellbent on catching Solas’ trail so she can save him from himself. Of the two of them, she’s a much better politician than Daphne, which is hilarious considering.

When he was two, Bre'olas Lavellan met his sister Atisha. Hahren Ellana had taken him for the day while his mother gave birth. She returned him to his family's tent at sundown. His father opened the flap, and Bre'olas toddled through. As his eyes fell upon his sister, he announced, "I'm your big brudder!"
When he was three, Bre'olas learned about alienages and the Exalted March and slavery in Tevinter.
When he was five, Bre'olas lost his father Darevas. He was playing catch with Atisha when a messenger came for their mother. She read the dispatch, then gathered her children in her arms and wept softly as she explained what had happened. Bre'olas resolved to be strong like his mother, to cry when he needed to and to tell the truth.
When Bre'olas was seven, Atisha's magic revealed itself, and she was sent to a different clan to be their First. Bre'olas cried himself to sleep often after that, earning him worried looks from his mother.
When he was eleven, Bre'olas Lavellan met a pretty boy named Enansal, a cousin of someone's cousin's sister, or something. Enansal was thirteen and bragged about going out on hunts. He was a shade taller than Bre'olas with a long braid of blond hair down his back.
"What vallaslin will you get, Enansal?" asked one of the others one day.
Enansal leaned back against the fence he was perched on, flipping a dagger lazily back and forth between his hands. "Andruil," he answered.
Bre'olas thought, <He is very confident. I like that.>
Enansal went on, "What about you? What will yours be?" So everyone shared their plans, each more eager than the rest, trying to be impressive. When it got to Bre'olas's turn, he shrugged, caught up with making sure the fletching on his arrows was good. "I don't know, maybe Dirthamen? Or Falon'din. One of the brothers." He ducked his head to avoid Enansal's gaze.
After, when Bre'olas was packing up his arrow making supplies, Enansal's hand came to rest on his forearm. He looked up.
Enansal's face was uncharacteristically shy. "Would you like to take a walk around the pond with me?"
Bre'olas wanted to say yes, but... "Another time, perhaps? I must gather my family's supper." He was conscious of his mother's admonitions for him not to grow up too quickly, but if he did not do the work, then who would?
Enansal did not ask him again after that.
When Bre'olas was sixteen, two moons before his first hunt, his mother Venarla died. He went before the Keeper and asked, stone-faced, for his hunt not to be delayed. He would mourn his mother as an adult, he said.
He killed a bear. It took four halla to drag its carcass back to the camp.
Hahren Ellana gave him his vallaslin. She suggested green ink, like many others in the clan, but he chose black.
When he was seventeen, he met humans for the first time: a group of Templars escorting a few mages to a Circle. Bre'olas did not like how the Templars behaved as if they were better than everyone else.
When he was twenty-two, he received word from Atisha's clan that she had been possessed by a demon and killed.
When Bre'olas was twenty-four, a traveling bard told the Lavellan clan of the human mage Gray Warden who had ended the Fifth Blight almost before it had begun. Bre'olas scoffed. Heroes were all well and good, but people were still dead.
When Bre'olas was thirty, Clan Lavellan passed close to Kirkwall, camping on Sundermount. There was another Dalish clan there, the Sabrae, and apparently they had been there for the better half of a decade. Bre'olas learned that their First, a blood mage, had left some five years before and was living in the Kirkwall alienage. Apparently she had been seen working with a human, a Fereldan mercenary named Hawke.
"So stubborn," sighed the Keeper of Clan Sabrae, clucking her tongue. "But then, all young people are."
When Bre'olas was thirty-four, his Keeper sent him to the Conclave between the mages and the Templars with instructions to stay out of the way.

Every month, my Curator patrons get a free sketched portrait of an OC of their choice (among other things)! This, uh, technically isn’t a sketch, but I was using the opportunity to play around with some of Procreate’s default painting brushes and got carried away. 👀 Thank you, @cassandra-pentughasst, for supporting me!
