You don’t really worry about the tabloids anymore. At least, not in the way that you used to. Michelle still sends you the odd article, but it’s usually accompanied by several 😂 emojis (the most notable is the one that suggested that you, Bruce, and Liz are in a throuple, and Grant is your collective beard). Whatever the press says about Bruce becomes white noise. 
But…What the press says about Batman still tends to seep through. 
You can’t help but notice the Gotham Gazette where it’s spread open on Rose’s desk. She’s turned away from it, reading through the approval form that you’ve brought over to her. You can’t help but reach out, turning the newspaper toward yourself and eyeing the grainy image of Batman. Your brow furrows as you draw the newspaper up to get a better look, scanning it more closely. He’s tied up in what look like vines, and nose-to-nose with a stunning, smiling, partially-masked woman. 
“You haven’t seen that yet?” Rose asks, glancing up from the document. “It’s been all over the papers for weeks.” 
“Has it?” You ask dazedly. You’ve managed to miss it. You haven’t been following mentions Batman as closely on social media since you started your new job—you just haven’t had time. 
“Mhm.” Rose folds her arm on her desk and leans in, peering at the picture. “Apparently it’s a real love-hate-cat-and-mouse kinda thing. Hot, right?” She waggles her brows. “I’d love to see what’s under that suit.” 
“Which?”
“Either.” 
You force a smile at the sight of Rose’s salacious grin, but you can’t help glancing back down at the article and skimming it. You commit the name to memory and make a mental note to look her up on your phone when you get back to your desk—
Poison Ivy.

It’s probably not much of a surprise that Bruce hasn’t mentioned her to you. For the most part—apart from the odd knowing glance, the bruises on his body, and the night he spilled into the penthouse half-dead—he keeps that side of himself to himself. Alfred doesn’t discuss it with you, either, and perhaps that’s why he seems so surprised when you slam your laptop shut as he comes into the kitchen that Saturday morning, hiding your googled articles of Poison Ivy and Batman. 
Alfred’s brows raise, and you offer him a nervous, guilty smile as your face goes hot. You know that you weren’t fast enough—you’d been so honed in on reading that you hadn’t heard him until he was passing right behind you. 
“...Is he awake yet?” You ask lightly, desperate to break the awkward silence. 
“Only just.” 
“‘Kay.” 
“It seems you and Master Wayne are researching similar topics these days,” He comments, swanning around the kitchen counter and setting down the empty breakfast tray. 
“Oh?” 
“Mm. She's proving to be a tougher nut to crack than he thought.” 
You consider for a moment. You could let the conversation go, of course. You’re certain Alfred wouldn’t press it. But: 
“Has he got any leads?” 
“A few,” Alfred nods, bracing his hands on the counter, “Though I would recommend asking him about his ideas and methodology.” 
You bristle before you sigh and slouch dejectedly, resting your chin on your hand. 
“He doesn’t talk about that stuff with me, Alfred.” 
“He doesn’t like for you to worry.” 
“I worry whether he tells me or not. Not knowing just makes me worry more.” 
“Then perhaps that’s something you ought to tell him.” 
You glance up at him warily, and some of your nerves ease as he gives you a warm smile. 
“Now,” He straightens, clapping his hands together and looking around the kitchen. “Despite the hour, Master Wayne is tucking into his breakfast. Shall I get something together for your lunch?” 
You consider for a moment, eyes darting down the hall before you stand, shaking your head. 
“Let’s put a pin in that. I think I’m just gonna…Go steal some of Bruce’s toast.” 
Alfred smiles knowingly, giving you a wink before you turn fully from him and head down the hall.

The blackout curtains have been raised just enough to let a little bit of light into the room, but it’s still quite dim. You can see the empty smoothie glass on the bedside table, and the plate of toast that Bruce has put on the wide headboard behind him. Bruce looks preciously rumpled, scrubbing his eyes as he sits up in bed. You can see a few light bruises on his bare chest and arms, but nothing too egregious. His eyes are still narrowed with sleep as he lowers his hands, and his hair looks as ruffled as a baby bird’s. He perks up as you come in, a sleepy smile pulling at his lips as you come closer. 
“Hey, baby,” He murmurs, opening his arms as you climb into bed beside him. 
“Sleep okay?” You ask, cuddling into his side. 
“Fine. I thought you were seeing Michelle for brunch.”
“Got moved to drinks this evening. She had a work thing come up.”
Bruce hums in understanding, tucking you close and pressing a kiss to your head. You bite your lip, grappling with how to bring up the conversation. 
“Late night?” You finally ask lightly. You're relieved when you don’t feel Bruce tense, or reel away. He just rubs his hand gently over your arm.
“Mhm.” 
“Later than usual?” 
“...About on par.” 
“Mm.” You eye the steady rise and fall of his chest for a few moments before you hedge: “Hope you don't mind my asking–” 
“It’s fine—” 
“—You’ve just seemed a little tied up lately.” You give Bruce a sly, teasing smile, and it widens to a grin when you see him fighting back his own smile. 
“Is that why you came in here?” He asks dryly.
“Of course not. I saw Alfred bringing you toast.” You straighten up, reaching over his shoulder, taking up a piece, and biting into it. Bruce chuckles, and you grin as he leans into you, nuzzling against your neck. You hum as you chew, your skin prickling at the feeling of his thickening stubble. 
“How’s it going, anyway?” You ask. 
“What do you mean?” 
“You have any leads?” 
Your stomach drops when you feel him go tense. He sighs softly, leaning away to get a better look at you. You reach back, setting the toast down and dusting crumbs from your fingers before you fold your hands in your lap, waiting patiently. After a few moments, you can’t help but wring your hands subtly as Bruce observes you, and then lowers his gaze to the sheets. 
“I’m not sure I want to discuss that with you,” He finally admits. You swallow thickly, fighting to keep from shifting and fidgeting with nerves. 
“Can I ask why not?” 
Bruce pushes a sigh out through his nose, giving a small shake of his head. 
“I can’t keep it out, huh,” He mutters. 
“Well…You did for a while. Didn’t go so well,” You remind him lightly. Bruce nods, scrubbing his hand over the back of his neck as he mutters, “I know.”
You tentatively reach out, resting your hand atop his. He turns his hand over, taking a gentle hold of yours. 
“I’m not asking you to make me a suit and teach me to fight, Bruce. I just want you to let me in.” 
His lips twitch with a smile as he reaches up, cupping your cheek and sweeping his thumb across your cheekbone. 
“I think…That her name is Pamela Isley. She’s a botanist.” 
“Why is she doing…what she’s doing?” 
“That’s what I still need to find out.” 
You nod, leaning in and pressing a kiss to his lips. 
“Thank you.” 
He hums, grasping your jaw and drawing you in for another long, warm kiss. 
“That’s never happening,” He adds as the kiss breaks. You frown, brow furrowing. 
“What do you mean?” 
“Making you a suit, teaching you to fight.” 
You pout, cocking your head to the side. 
“I ought to know how to at least throw a punch, right?” 
“We’ll see about that. It’s a slippery slope,” Bruce chuckles, patting your cheek before nodding over his shoulder. “Eat your toast.”

Pile l you may be used to careers where you feel are a dead end. Some of you could be the type to job hop a lot where whenever you feel you either get bored or you are feeling as if you are not growing or feel appreciated you tend to leave and move onto what you hope is better pastures but end up being something similar to your last job in environment, management, or even the position. It's like an endless cycle you keep repeating that you can't seem to jump off. You may also be the the type of employee where everything is piled on your plate because upper management knows that if they pass things to you things will get done and more. You are most likely that go above and beyond employees, if not beyond you may do a little extra on tasks if you have the time or feel creative to add extra stuff to something. I'm hearing you're the strongest soldier fighting all the battles. Unappreciated by Cherish played in my head for your pile. You are used to careers/jobs where you are constantly feeling unappreciated, undermined, emotionally and mentally drained. I hear some people may even take credit for some of the work that you do at work. Overall I feel that your work environment loves to make you the leader of everything without giving you leader money. Example: Before I moved up in management and I was a front desk agent, my colleagues would always come to me as if I was the manager and not the manager themselves because management was either choosing not to be available, not helping, or knowing management doesn't know what they are talking about. Even though I wasn't getting management pay everyone including managers were coming to me for guidance but not giving credit to where it's due. This maybe your current position pile ll or at least environments where you have worked in. Not exactly the same example but examples similar to it. Pile lll you may be used to environments that are toxic all around you. Every time you turn around someone is being sneaky, conniving, secretive, moving behind the scenes to either level themselves up, make themselves look good, or plot against other people. You may deal with people who think they are your manager when in fact they are either in the same position as you or a level below you. You may also deal with businesses or corporations who like to cut corners and don't do things the right way. They trick and scam people out of more money or the same money but less quality in items/food. Example: I used to work at a subway where back in the day when the month of February was always $5 deal month our owner would tell us to not give everyone the full amount of meant so he could pinch on supplies. so if you bought a turkey sub instead of getting 8 slices you receive 6 and we had to spread them out to make the sub look full. Overall I am feeling the environment you are used to working is an every person for themselves environment. The "We're a family/team" kind of environment. This is very specific but some of you may even work for Chick-fil-A or corporations similar where they believe in doing things the "traditional" way or even fire people for one small mistake like not saying my pleasure to customers. You may work in fast food, retail, restaurants, warehouses like Amazon, Corporate, bank jobs, etc overall I am getting minimum wage or slightly above the jobs you may be used to. Patreon Post Link

The more I think about it, the cultivation world and academia are similar. High drop out rates? Reverence towards the people who 'make it to the end'? Meritocracy but not really? Age old 'talent' vs 'hard work' vs 'privilege'? Possibly just side effects of being learning institutions but yeah. Anyway, headcanons for peak lords as professors.
SQQ (SY) The chill professor everyone loves. Is often absent for months at a time doing field studies but comes back with loads of cool stories. Has a tendency to veer off course and everyone's grades may suffer because of how little time is actually spent on examinable material, but at least you'll enjoy yourself. He says he's only there for the fun and doesn't do much research, but you've spied a number of very big names going to him for advice. If you manage to make him drunk, his personality does a 180 and he complains extensively about everything, including his latest webnovel obsession.
og!SQQ (SJ) The salty professor everyone hates. Obsessed with rankings and citation counts, has a constant rivalry with LQG, and does the absolute minimum when it comes to undergrad teaching because he thinks it's a waste of time. He's convinced there's an agenda against him because he didn't get funding for the third time in a row and takes it out on the students. But damn does he know what he's talking about, and you've heard he's actually a genius, albeit one with complicated background. The few phd students he has are utterly enamored with him.
SQH Everyone forgets that he's not a student, including himself. When he teaches, it feels like he's giving a presentation and waiting for feedback. He answers questions with questions. Nobody knows what research he's doing, including the other members of department. Both Shens and LQG alike think he's a waste of space. But he seems to have some mysterious connections to a very fancy research facility up north.
LQG Absent professor. Literally cannot teach. Reads off last year's notes (written by other people) and calls it a lecture. But he's got many fancy awards under his belt for his research and the rest of the department talk about him with awe in their voice. If you take work to him, he will undoubtedly rip it to shreds, but not in a mean way. Half the students hate him. Half the students make him a meme. A few of them worship him like a god.
YQY The nice one. He teaches amazingly, heads a healthy research team, and has some banging papers under his name. The students know him as the best teacher, but behind the scenes he is literally keeping the department together. Wrangles with management and does a lot of outreach stuff on top of all of this. The students are convinced he literally lives on site because they keep seeing him at weird hours of the day. This is half true.
MQF The Professor. When you say 'professor', MQF is the person who comes to mind. The students think he is actually a robot, because they've never seen him do anything other than his job. His teaching is adequate but without personality, and he is extremely mild mannered. Unbeknownst to them, he is known as the 'mad scientist' of the department - he has a bizarre attitude to safety and often goes utterly crazy with experiments which are only just toeing regulations. A pioneer of his (somewhat niche) field.
QQQ Social justice warrior. The one who actually strikes when there's a strike on, and organises all of the diversity events. The student have mixed views on her. She struggled against a very sexist department back in her day and still gets a lot of hateful feedback, so she's learnt to take zero fucks. Which is cool but also means a lot of valid criticism gets taken as personal attacks. With all the drama, everyone seems to forget that she's actually a really big name in the field, receiving some fancy awards around the same time as LQG. Her phd group is surprisingly chill.

ok gamers I rewatched tristamp one more time in order to write a post about the soundtrack, and some of the stuff I found blew my socks off (even though I've seen every episode like 6 times) so buckle up because oh my god. oh my god
this will cover most of both volumes of the OST (which you can find on spotify), with a focus on wolfwood, and a little bit of vash, meryl, and the eye of michael
...and a very thorough breakdown of "drain arm" :)

notes before I get into it: -I won't be analyzing the plant song because I. already wrote an entire separate thing about that haha (a link to that doc will be in the replies section of the notes if you're interested)
-you won't need to know anything about music theory, because I'm just pointing out where certain themes come up (with the exception of "duet", but I'll explain terminology there). timestamps will be included so you can listen for them as you read
-if you're obsessed with the OST like I am, most of this probably won't be anything new x) but I hope it's enjoyable regardless
-my credentials: I was a pianist for 10 years and an oboist for 7.5 years and I only had 1 semester of intermediate music theory but I got to analyze the 1st mvt of tchaik 5 and I think that permanently altered my brain chemistry
-the tracks I recommend being familiar with to have a better grasp on this post are: -> "whistling/blues harp in the wasteland" (vash's leitmotif) -> "reality" -> "childhood memories" -> "duet" -> "human subject" (eye of michael, or EoM, leitmotif) -> "drain arm" (technically optional)
-please don't take any of my interpretations/speculation as fact! you are absolutely free to come to your own conclusions I just have a lot of thoughts about the soundtrack lol 👍
here we go :]
EP1: -you can hear a variation of the plant song in "immigrant space explorer" (0:36-1:00)
-vash's leitmotif is first heard in "no man's land" (0:41-0:48)
-only about half of "mystery man" plays, and his leitmotif (0:38-0:51) is actually cut from the scene so it's not heard at all
EP2: -"escape" has vash's leitmotif from 0:18-0:31. they also took out the lyrics in the episode's version of the track x)
-it's possible that we'll hear "might is right" or a new arrangement of it if we get to see the rest of the nebraska family in future episodes, since there were posters of marilyn. I think people largely associate the song with EG the Mine but due to the track title and the fact that it first played in this episode, I feel like it's more about the nebraskas
-I'll talk about "childhood memories" in ep12 because it's related to rem's themes
EP3: -the plant song can be heard in "compatriots" (1:01-1:11)
-"reality" is first heard here, right before the episode in which wolfwood is introduced. keep this in mind for later :')
EP4: -"undertaker" has a dissonant sax part (0:48-0:54) that's similar to the one found in "irritation" (1:05-1:11), but it's an ascending passage rather than descending. it doesn't show up anywhere else so it might become a motif we'll hear in the future, but there's no way to know until the next part is released
-"planet zaji", from 0:55-1:04, has that one part from "time left" (1:02-1:09). it's heard while wolfwood's spinning the punisher around but I think it's just something that sounds cool, and you can't really hear it anyway because of the sound effects/dialogue. if zazie gets any additional themes in the future I might have more to say on this
-vash's leitmotif kicks in in "hungry !" (0:21-0:43) when wolfwood introduces himself at the end of the episode. I really like this track I hope we'll get to hear it again x)
EP5: -I don't think there's any meaning behind "shadow" borrowing from "worms network". I'm pretty sure it was just for mood (and to be fair it is a cool track)
-you can hear vash's leitmotif at the beginning of "boy and vash". this is the part where vash is escorting rollo back to the village
-"cyborg" introduces a new 4-note pattern (0:07-0:14) that I'm calling the eye of michael leitmotif. if hearing this reminds you of episode 6 then you already understand what I mean
-"dud" has vash's leitmotif as well (2:20-2:59), which starts playing when vash is begging rollo to wake up after wolfwood kills him
-only a small part of "human subject" (0:25-0:35) is used for the final scene, right when the windmills start turning. using the EoM leitmotif as a sendoff to the empty village is. really haunting
EP6 (this is a long one I'm sorry): -the EoM leitmotif can be heard in "reborn" (0:09-0:14, but it's easier to hear in 0:26-0:30). this is the opening scene where wolfwood guns down the deserter
-they do reuse "worms network" when livio first opens fire on vash but that's more for mood in my opinion. you could say it hints at zazie monitoring the sand steamer though
-we're probably going to hear "the desert rogue" again when the bad lads gang shows up in a future episode, possibly with a new arrangement for brilliant dynamites neon (this is one of my personal favorite tracks actually. it's a shame they didn't get to use the whole thing because 0:45 to the end is really cool)
-"boyhood" contains the EoM leitmotif and it's very in-your-face in this song (1:15-2:19). in the episode itself the track gets cut at around 2:10, but in the OST the piano motif from "orphanage" can be heard one more time right at the end of the song at 2:18-2:20. which is an evil thing to do. anyway
-"nicholas the punisher" is an arrangement of "reality". let that sit for a second, maybe go listen to those two tracks or something.
okay so we can look at this in a few different ways:
-> the end of episode 3 is of course a reality check, supported by the corresponding track being titled "reality" (even though it's fabricated by nai: to suggest and then prove to the people of no man's land that vash is indeed deserving of the $$6mil bounty; and to tell vash that his presence will pose a threat to humans). you know who else is supposed to be* grounded in reality? the pragmatic nicholas d wolfwood, who's introduced at the start of episode 4 *tristamp wolfwood hasn't quite found his resolve yet, as shown by his hesitation when livio appears
-> in the scene where "nicholas the punisher" is heard, vash is insistent on rescuing livio while wolfwood pushes back and says it's too late for him. he's clearly wishing he wouldn't have to eliminate livio though, and with "reality" as the foundation of this song, it presents wolfwood's inner turmoil in a new way for the audience: vash, who is physically right there trying to persuade him that there's still hope for his brother, vs his role as "nicholas the punisher" in sound, in his mind, and the "reality" that developed along with it (death is/can be a mercy, and sometimes it's necessary to sacrifice one life to save many)
(I also want to add that while legato's dialogue shows he intended for the orphanage to be eliminated through livio's death, it seems wolfwood didn't even realize that killing livio would mean more kids would be taken by the EoM for experimentation. he thought he had to choose between livio or the children, but it was a "test" of loyalty; and legato was attempting to obtain said loyalty by force)
-> outside of the episode, if you were to just listen to this track within the OST it's very representative of his character. contrary to "undertaker", which is fairly laid-back and....honestly kind of playful (and equally reflective of wolfwood's personality, when he's relaxed), "nicholas the punisher" is a more somber and contemplative piece. the fact that it's built on "reality" already suggests that he's someone whose beliefs conflict with vash's; and even without knowing that, both of wolfwood's themes contrast with the energy of "vash the stampede" quite clearly (even if I personally don't consider that track to be vash's official theme, it's still associated with him). I think it's really interesting that vash, the quieter one, has more raucous songs while wolfwood, the one with a sharp tongue, has calmer tracks :)
you might be wondering if "orphanage" is in "nicholas the punisher" and the answer is......yes, but actually, no. but kinda if you're delusional like me. this little pattern from 0:29-0:42 in "orphanage" is found in the low brass from 0:57-1:11 in "nicholas the punisher" (although it's in a different key and has a slight variation in the 2nd half). it's not quite the same, but both phrases start by going down a half step, then down a P5 interval (D->C#->F# for "orphanage", F->E->A for "nicholas the punisher"). lastly the sand steamer's leitmotif (I guess) is also present but that's. obviously because this is happening on the sand steamer lol
-"whom to kill, whom to let live" is just a faster/more tense arrangement of "orphanage" with saxophone over it. starting at 1:07 you can hear the worms leitmotif (1:31-1:34 in "worms network")
I can't say whether or not legato is already represented in the OST because he's currently not associated with any unique tracks, but they might tie the dissonant saxophone passage from "irritation" to him. it's first heard when legato stops wolfwood from escaping the facility, and as far as I can remember it's not played anywhere else. if he plays a bigger role in the next season, which I'm sure he will, I'll be keeping an ear out for this x) (I only mention the sax thing because I don't think he's represented by the sax solo that plays in "whom to kill, whom to let live")
EP7: -a little more of "the desert rogue" is heard when the bad lads make their way onto the sand steamer but it's very hard to make out over the gang yelling in the background lmao
-we're treated to the entirety of "human subject", for the scene where livio briefly returns to himself. if you somehow weren't convinced that those repeated 4 notes had anything to do with the eye of michael, this is the last instance where it's heard: the moment livio's overcome by whatever brainwashing was used on him by the EoM
-I think most people associate "time left" with ep12 but it's first played in this episode and I believe that it was primarily composed with the ion cannon sequence in mind (though a majority of the tracks in the OST only play once for specific scenes, with some songs being cut short and getting different parts played across 2+ episodes. "irritation" and "human subject" are examples of this)
EP8: -this one's a little hard to hear because the 1st note is implied in the C drone but vash's leitmotif starts at around 0:09 in "complicity" and runs all the way to 1:06
-it's also in "home" (1:38-1:57), playing at the moment luida hands vash the red coat :)
EP9: -I've talked about this before but I really like that there's 4(?) measures of polyrhythm (2 or more differing rhythmic lines that are played within the same time signature) when vash joins in, before the brothers come together on the same even rhythm. you can see how vash's quarter-note pattern doesn't line up with nai's quarter-note triplets, and in fact, neither of them ever land or start together:

(for the sake of comprehension I wrote it out with a faster tempo to stretch the polyrhythm part over 8 bars instead of the slow tempo/4 bars. I'm not sure what the official tempo is. I think a sane person would write it at a faster tempo so that the part doesn't look stupidly cluttered but a good musician would be able to play it regardless. anyway-)
it sounds even more stilted because vash is playing on the offbeat. polyrhythm's such a great way to represent the brothers' relationship because it seems so chaotic but both lines are still in time together, following the same beats. they're so different but in the end they're still brothers who (are trying to) understand each other. and I love that vash is playing secondo, a more harmonic/supportive part, while knives has primo, where the melody/ornaments are. it says a lot about their personalities :')
since I don't know what the original sheet music looks like I can't say if this is true but you can hear that the plant song at 1:03 is played in octaves (2 notes that're the same pitch with one higher than the other). because of the nature of a duet, and the fact that this was played by the twins when they were little, the octaves were probably split between the parts. so vash was playing the lower octave of the plant song with his right hand, and nai played the upper octave with his left hand (we don't get to see this because it cuts to nai playing the song alone at that point). also: vash favors his right hand while nai favors his left
-now for something far less interesting: "last run" is a medley combining "ethics and morality", "compatriots", and "millions knives"
EP10: -"a cruel sight" seems to be unused. it was probably intended to lead into "bio-power reactor" in the scene where meryl and roberto meet elendira in the tank (given that it ends the same way "bio-power reactor" starts), but they cut it and just played a version of "bio-power reactor" without the melody
-elendira's themes ("elendira the crimsonnail" and "which is the monster?") seem to have some lyrics that're most audible in the beginning of the tracks but they're almost impossible to make out without some kind of editing software, which I don't have lol. they're already very quiet in the background and they echo, on top of sounding like they were put through autotune
also this is entering speculation territory but it makes me wonder if elendira's theme is going to evolve with her. we've seen some concept art with her having a more teenage appearance, so I think it'd be really cool if the vocals also changed accordingly
additionally she doesn't have the EoM leitmotif anywhere but she DOES have a proper 4-note chromatic pattern that descends from D in "which is the monster?" (1:32-1:35), which is the same note that the EoM leitmotif starts on. if we consider EoM's broken chromatic passage to represent the failed experiments, then elendira, with an actual chromatic passage in her theme, is a success
-"meryl's regrets" is ALSO an arrangement of "reality" :') this is the track that plays during roberto's final moment, which was. you know. the consequence of meryl running off in pursuit of the truth. the "reality" roberto had warned her about several times prior to episode 10. interestingly, while "nicholas the punisher" expands on the original track, "meryl's regrets" is a reduction--it's mostly just the baseline with some notes here and there. she doesn't have a theme yet, but 1:23-1:33 might be something we hear again if/when she gets a track associated with her
EP11: -"nicholas and meryl" is an arrangement of "boy and vash", with erhu echoing vash's leitmotif. I think it's a neat way to show through music that both of them are here because of vash :]
-the tracklist goes slightly out of order at this point for some reason. after "memory retrieval", "memory of geranium" is what plays in the final memory, when nai decapitates rem
EP12: -"memory of rem" is a combination of "childhood memories" and "memory of geranium". "childhood memories" is also found in "knives's piano", which is based on "duet". one fun way of interpreting this is that the "childhood memories" part of the duet is actually from rem, if she was the one who taught the twins how to play piano, which would make "duet" a musical representation of vash and nai's roots (pun intended. sorry). this also suggests nai misses rem, with how often he plays the piano, even if he thinks he hates her.
but "childhood memories" can also simply be seen as a theme that's associated with rem, nai, and vash's brief time together x)
-okay this is the part where I get to rant about "drain arm" because THIS SONG was literally the reason I decided I needed to rewatch stampede. I was listening to "drain arm" a couple weeks after the finale aired and I heard vash's leitmotif near the end and I was like "NO WAY!!!! HOW DID I MISS THAT"
as it turns out, it was cut from episode 12.

not to worry though, I still have plenty to say about it. even if I'm a little disappointed. just. a little.
-> from 1:13-1:25, you can hear vash's leitmotif in the cello. this DID make it into the scene, and it plays when vash rises through the clouds
-> 2:44-3:10 is where some of the lyrics from vocal version of "millions knives" play: "remember how / we used to be / no turning back / sky's (skies??) falling down". although you can't actually hear the "remember how" in "drain arm" (at least not without blasting the song into your ears, which I don't recommend), it starts right when the image of vash and nai sitting in the geodome appears
-> we finally get the plant song at 3:36, when the condensed energy starts to leak out/charge. and then after it fires, but before nai dives into the beam, we hear "I still care for you" (3:44-3:52). and while it's originally from the vocal version of "millions knives", in the context of the scene I think it's a sentiment from both brothers: vash, who pleads for nai to let go and releases the energy away from him; and then knives, desperately reaching for the cube because he believes the success of his plan will ensure his family's (and especially his brother's) safety, the only ones he's ever cared about
in other words: plant song in cello = vash -> "I still care for you" -> continuation of plant song in low brass = knives. they're connected by this single sentence
-> knives's leitmotif (I didn't talk about it because it's only found in songs that signal his appearance, so it's really obvious, but yes he's got one of those) plays at 4:03 for the "nai is dead. you killed him" exchange
-> it goes back to a variation of the plant song at 4:29 (I LOVE the piano at 4:40-4:49 btw. it's so good. I could cry about it. probably)
if you've read my plant song analysis you might be wondering how to tell when it's being associated with the name millions knives instead of the plant race. since we know that a good chunk of the songs in the OST were written like a film score, the visual context (and/or the song titles themselves) can clue you in. "drain arm"'s use of the plant song is meant to highlight that vash and nai aren't human, so it's the latter
-> now here's the part that was removed, probably due to the runtime: vash's leitmotif in the cello again, from 5:03-5:09. if you revisit the part right before nai lets go of the cube, you'll hear that it skips these 6 seconds and goes straight to knives's theme ("but that's the plant song!" yes. we'll get to that in a sec). this missing bit right here?? fucks me up EVERY time. it's the most mournful his leitmotif has ever sounded, appropriately so, and it's absolutely criminal that it wasn't included. especially because knives's theme, the plant song melody, follows it up on violin as the cello continues to play a line in harmony.
and it's knives's theme because in this moment it's about him dying, not the plants. they spent a whole season tricking us into thinking that the plant song was knives's theme, and then they used it to send him off.
-> and then july city explodes o7
as much as I'd love to hear "drain arm" again for another chance to let the weight of vash's motif come through, I think it's too intertwined with this scene to be recycled. like. maaaaaaaybe they could use it for fifth moon if that's supposed to be the climax of the next part but they kinda?? already did the "fire a really big laser at the sky" thing? anyway yeah I'm totally normal about "drain arm". so normal
Extras: -the punisher and the double fangs have these cool sound effects when they transform and it kinda makes me think that their guns are built from lost tech, if the punisher's laser cannon wasn't evidence enough of this
-there's no equivalent of "sound life" in stampede, and I don't think there's going to be one. however, I do think that it would make a lot of sense if rem taught the boys how to play piano, because we could get something like:
-> rem asks vash about the plant song (the memory in ep12) -> she gives the boys piano lessons -> she helps them compose "duet"
-they didn't use "stampede out" for this season but I really hope we'll hear it in the next part. I know it's just a longer version of "escape" but it's a fun song :]
-this is. obvious but you can hear "gate" in "millions knives". no idea if they'll put "gate" into more songs, especially for vash now that he seems to have some control over it
-there's also something kinda fun with key signatures too: -> "millions knives" is in b minor -> vash's leitmotif is in d dorian (of course this changes depending on the key signature of whatever track it's used in) -> "undertaker" is also in d dorian -> I think songs associated with no man's land/humanity are usually in some dorian scale or specifically the key of a minor but this is solely based on jeneora rock since july city had its own unique theme so I'm not totally sure yet. "duet" is in a minor by the way -> "nicholas the punisher" is in d minor. if "undertaker" is tied to humanity (which is tied to vash) then "nicholas the punisher" is linked to the other side: knives, through the EoM. it adds another interesting layer to the contrast between wolfwood's two themes, but I don't consider this to hold any meaning lol -> I WILL say that b minor is the relative minor of D Major, so having knives and vash's songs be written in those keys was likely deliberate. and what makes it really interesting is that to get d dorian, you take a D Major scale and lower the 3rd and 7th notes by a half step
-I'm not 100% sure but I think plucked piano strings were used to create the low, scratchy string sound effect in some of the songs (one example is literally at the beginning of "irritation"). I think it's really cool that piano is everywhere in the soundtrack, but not necessarily by hitting the keys
-I am unbelievably excited for livio's/razlo's themes because they have the opportunity to do some REALLY COOL things with the music for them. we might not get them in part 2 (though I think we will) but whenever it happens I'll be so ready for it >:)

'plagiarism' issue
Not one for drama, yet I want to bring attention to this. I won’t elaborate on this issue more.
So it happened.
A while ago but it remains slowly nipping at my brain. For that case, I have decided to write it all down and collect my thoughts using this post.
My work like real people do (and the whole thought/idea behind it) has been taken, rewritten, tweaked and published as someone else's idea (that they apparently had since spring). I asked them to take it down privately. They did add my @ and for some time, I was content until they started creating the whole "universe" around it and taking praise for it even tho it's not their original idea.
The dark side of fanfiction is that there is not much I can do but at least I can make awareness about the issue.

Starting this with some definitions and clearance:
plagiarism: "Presenting work or ideas from another source as your own...by incorporating it into your work without full acknowledgment.[1]"

Now to the point:
For LRPD, I have created a very specific premise that I haven't read/seen before:
Leon is a single dad of a young girl (didn't specify age but definitely a preteen, around fourth grade).
He is absent from his daughter's life, especially from her school activities. He becomes this "enigma" for the teachers.
The daughter doesn't have a mother. 
Teacher!reader is concerned for the daughter's wellbeing so one day, when Leon picks her up, she requires to have a talk with him.
During the talk, he offers her a dinner instead of having to participate in school activities.
Teacher!reader and Leon sleep together during the first off-school meeting. 
Teacher!reader wakes up before Leon and looks at his exposed [muscular] back.
Teacher!reader searches for the bathroom, notices Leon’s poorly decorated apartment except for his daughter’s stuff. 
Teacher!reader is reffered to as "Miss teacher" in this universe.
They copied almost THE WHOLE premise. It'd be okay to write your own version of single dad Leon and his kid's teacher - I don't own the trope - but following the SAME ORIGINAL STORYLINE is not okay [with me]...
The parts after "Keep reading" consists of photo 'evidence' of the similarities (some are less obvious but I'll mention them regardless). It is LONG because I have a lot to say.
LRPD was published May 2, 2023, their story was published August 14, 2023.

It's more glaring if you read both stories instead of me splitting it into excerpts (and I didn't insert all of them as there is a limit to pictures per post).
Taking inspiration or straight-up rewritting someone's detailed idea is a difference.

Before we crack into this, take a moment to read what I said about the neck thing. I write that up a long time ago, but it provides some important context and is a good refresher on the secret history of Spirit's bi awakening.
Also, the director's commentary for this chapter is here, in case you want to review that.
Good? Okay, let's go at it.
So.... they had sex. Yay. Insert jazz hands.
I feel like I actually have way less to talk about here than I did for the neck thing. Granted, a lot of the neck thing is behind the scenes stuff. I guess that's a good place to start.
You may recall the informal hiatus CTB went on after Spirit came back to Warriors's era. I used a lot of that time to actually work out how to end CTB and what character/plot points I would need to hit to have a satisfying conclusion.
During this time, I was listing out things about Spirit and Warriors that I need to return to. Spirit had his codependent histories with the greenhorn and Zelda, or really his strategy for offering himself up as a means of feeling more in control, that needed to be explored. I needed to do some kind of follow-up with Warriors's latent attraction.
The two topics were similar enough to make me want to tackle them at once. But the moment I did, my brain decided that they should hate fuck. (I definitely was also thinking about my old concept of Spirit's unrequited crush-- I still write the characters like that happened, even if it never actually made it into the story.)
Why hate sex? Honestly, it would be kinda funny. Plus, it's a good writing exercise to ask yourself what would happen if your characters in conflict did (not really).
I knew immediately it could only end badly for everyone involved. But I knew I needed Warriors to hit an emotional low point to motivate him to do his Castle Town plan. I knew I wanted Spirit's big speech to come at a time when he and Warriors were emotionally connecting again, and that the response to that speech needed to push him back to Time.
Shit, I thought. This might be what they do.
But, like. I love protecting my peace. I have been skirting around the edges of homo eroticism with Spirit and Warriors as much as I dared. I didn't want to invite angry anons. But then.... did I really care? I understand where people are coming from, but at the same time... this is such a minuscule non-issue. Truly, and with emotion: who even cares?
First off, we already established with the neck thing that whatever fucked up thing these two have going on does not count as shipping. And second, if it does count as shipping, then fine! It's shipping then. This is what the plot is. I've been working on this story for too long to compromise now. I'll reap the consequences, whatever they may be.
I decided to keep it on the books, half believing I would change my mind once the chapter came up.
I was feeling very confident about my choice, up until the day of posting. That was then I got slammed in the face with regret. Luckily, there hasn't been any issues. I may have overestimated as much the general populous care about CTB. If there was ever any confirmation that this story has the world's most niche audience, this is it.
And you all have been great. There's been a lot of encouragement and kind words from you the readers, after you all stopped yelling, of course.
(Though I was prepared to be an obstinate jackass to anyone who tried to complain. I found a loophole and was ready to exploit the hell out of it. I was so ready!)
Funnily enough, everyone's reactions to the past few chapters helped to reassure me the most. There was been a lot of jokes about Warriors and Spirit having the world's worst situationship (lol).
So them having sex turned into an important character and plot moment. Warriors and Spirit got built up and tore down in self-destructive ways. This experience becomes the wake-up call Warriors needed to decide that he was ready to stop being the hero and get his life back.
A lot of people expressed surprise that Warriors and Spirit would go through with it even after talking it out. To be honest, I was a little surprised too! I was half convinced that Warriors had grown enough to stop the self-destructive cycle and turn Spirit down. But when looking at the scenes leading up to them being alone-- from Twilight denounce his friendship with Warriors, Toto turning him away, and Warriors generally in an emotional rut over his intellect and lost beauty--I realized that Warriors was already in the middle of another downward spiral. He would go through with this, if only to feel valued. It was the war all over again.
Also, apparently half of you guessed that Warriors would get cigarette burns from Spirit eventually. I hope you all were happy with the results!
When I posted that snippet from the chapter, apparently all of you knew that a kiss was coming. Ooops. I'm a little glad I surprised all of you with what happened next afterward.
On to funnier things:
I meant for there to be more compare/contrasts between Warriors's nights with Icarius and Spirit. The only one I really managed to do was Link being unable to sleep next to Icarius vs Warriors falling asleep easily.
Because this chapter and the last were supposed to be one, this scene was supposed to come out around Valentine's Day. Could you imagine?
I had the silliest time trying to figure out how to get Warriors and Spirit alone in a room together. I had this grand plan about them needing to get a room in a different inn from the others, whether because they were too tired to walk home after dancing or because they were too drunk to remember the way. Then I realized that Ganondorf could just give the Chain enough money to get more rooms. I realized this way later than I should have.
If you're wondering.... they switched....
I wrote that Warriors thought that sex with Spirit felt like an argument. That is because they are both the bossiest motherfuckers in bed. They both want things done their way or else. It's combative. Unfortunately, they both like the challenge.
I did have an idea for how to end this whole matter in a funny way, both involving someone from the chain finding out.
In my first idea, Time barges into what he thinks is just Warriors's room, in the middle of some kind of rant. Then he sees both of them sitting in bed, pauses, then promptly walks out. Warriors and Spirit quickly get dress before there's a knock on the door. When Warriors opens, Time walks in casually and starts his rant again while pretending none of this had happened. He would wait until Warriors was alone to be like WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!!
My other alternate scenario involves Warriors and Spirit getting a room in a different inn. In the morning, Spirit is hurriedly trying to leave when there's a knock on the door. This time, it's a few members of the chain asking if he's seen Warriors anywhere. He says no. All but one walk away. The one who stays (probably Legend) would lean and discreetly tell him that he knew the room was under Warriors's name, so if they were done, could he tell Warriors to get his ass outside? Cue Spirit burning up in embarrassment.
EDIT: I actually had a third silly scenario idea. Similar to the others, Twilight barges in to talk to Warriors about Midna (they're still friends in this scenario; this was an idea from a long time ago). Warriors is still in the bed, but luckily Spirit is in the bathroom. Warriors tries to have a normal conversation without alerting Twilight that something was amiss. And it almost works until Spirit just walks out of the bathroom, waves, and goes to put his clothes on. Cue Twilight's 404 error.
So, yeah! That's the Hot Mess. As always, it's been really fun to see everyone's reactions. Warriors and Spirit are both extremely polarizing, and I love hearing everyone's hot takes.
Does this count as toxic yaoi? Not until I see an AMV to "Numb" by Linkedin Park. Luckily, Warriors and Spirit will never do this again. Probably.

I've talked about my experimental light and water shooting in last week's wip wednesday, and I'm here to finally share some fave pics xD I have more, and I might post some on a separate occasion or just use them for OC ask stuff where they fit, we'll see!!
Vince is someone who often asks himself where his place in the universe is, even more so growing up, but the doubts keep creeping in again now and then regardless of how much more confident he is now in his own abilities and goals. I kind of wanted to capture this feeling of being lost, just floating for a while as you try to figure things out here... and play with light and color.
I didn't really take any behind the scenes pics for this (I should really start doing that) but I made some shitty sketches just now with my mouse cause I mentioned I wanted to illustrate how I did this xD Also for my personal reference, cause I wanna do something similar, slightly different for another project in the future!!

Very simply, this was the setup xD I used Denny's pool as location, mainly because it was the first that came to mind, had a decent size, and I wanted to do some stuff there anyway xD I think you could pull this off in any other pool or body of water just as well. Originally I wanted to keep the normal pool background, but then I spawned in a black wall from the photostudio props to block out the sunlight and get a darker backdrop, and I really liked that!!
I had three customizable point lights spawned, a red one below V, a purple and greenish one above him - I don't remember the exact placements, I mainly just wanted a nice color contrast and I like those colors and played around with where I put them!

Now, the ripple effect of the water...... I had V spawned in via AMM, and so Player!V was also still there in the scne, so I just ran around his spawned self a little bit to create the splashes xD And voila!

I always take my pics just in in good old vanilla photomode, and at first I had pathtracing on for it (raytracing is also on). And I did like that as well, but look at these unedited pics:

The reflections look a lot more natural and detailed, but are also waaaayyy less colorful. So if you wanna go for a more realistic approach that might be the better option! Everything else is the same, lights, backdrop, etc.

The lights kind of create this oil-spill like effect on the water and I loooove that so much!! Also, the red light from below was reflected in his eyes in a really cool way somehow (less realistic, but very aesthetic xD)
So yeah! If your graphics card can handle it, mess with all the ray/pathtracing settings a bit for a variety of effects xD
Also, all my pics are usually heavily edited in case you couldn't tell XD I love vanilla photomode for its convenience, but it has its limits when it comes to color adjustments, depth of field, and the like!

Conclusion: it was okay. There were parts I genuinely liked. There are things that also bug me to no end. The soundtrack from the original series would’ve fit way better and a lot of times it sounded like an off brand marvel track. Acting and cgi was a lot better (at times.) An improvement on the first one, and a semi-worthwhile watch if you have nothing else to do and you like fma. Cannot and will never be a substitute for the original obviously. Seems like less of a cash grab and more of a genuine effort this time which I appreciate. Overall? 6.5/10

Do you know if there's a playlist somewhere of what music the Coffee Gang would listen to?
I feel like maybe a few artists were mentioned in the comics from what I've read so far, but I wonder if you had an inkling/headcanon/any idea what the characters would enjoy.
... Now that I'm thinking about it, the weird temporality of comics might make this an issue...
Oh this is a super fun question which I have no ready-made answer for. (If anyone reading this does have a playlist made or opinions on the subject, share 'em in the notes!)
Going by the comics timeline, I'd start with late 60s/early 70s rock and disco hits. MJ seems the most tuned into new music by way of youth culture and dance venues. Stuff by the Beatles, Beach Boys, Monkees, the Foundations, the whole top 40s list. (ASM #45/130)

Emphasis on female solo acts, maybe: MJ pulls an Aretha Franklin album from Peter & Harry's shelf, and I bet she likes Nancy Sinatra. Wherever she goes, the first thing she does is often to turn on some tunes. For the most part, she's the group tastemaker.
As for Peter, I'm guessing this ask was prompted by ASM 136:

It's a running joke that being Spidey keeps him a decade behind [current date] pop culturally. Ella Fitzgerald's career dates back to the 30s; I like to think that most of Peter's music taste + collection is inherited from Uncle Ben and Aunt May. Though humorously cynical nerd Pete might've had time to latch onto Tom Lehrer pre spider-bite, the way some modern high schoolers have a Weird Al phase.
The Osborn-Parker record collection is probably mostly Harry's, covering similar cultural territory to MJ's tastes. Maybe there's a never-opened Wagner opera in there courtesy of Norman. The girl on the cover of Hip Hug-Her always reminds me of Gwen, but I have no idea where her music taste might go. Movie soundtracks, maybe?

ASM 151 has notes on JJJ's music collection, of all people: Guy Lombardo, good lord. (And Mantovani is an orchestra conductor.)
Flash is a bit mysterious because his background took a while to fill in. In the far future of ASM 574, he listens to Tom Waits on Peter's recommendation. I was kind of nursing the headcanon that his dad kept Johnny Cash around the house and referred it to the only music for real men left in the world but rarely played any of it, until Flash got around to listening on his own and to his surprise really emotionally connected with it and reclaimed it into his own music taste...
In any case, there's a bit of music still left once Gwen leaves the scene. Kung Fu Fighting is PeterMJ's song, for one.

One of the last big nights out of the classic era is to the disco in SSM 24! This delightfully camp villainous music group is unfortunately not available on any music platforms, but KC and the Sunshine Band, the Bee Gees, the Jacksons and the Trammps certainly are.

And finally, based on this random panel whose issue I've forgotten, I like to think MJ got everyone into new wave at some point. The B-52s, Talking Heads and the Waitresses have reminded me of her. I also think her modeling connections would introduce her to the NYC weird art scene of that era, like Klaus Nomi, Grace Jones, and Laurie Anderson. By that time it would mostly be the Watson-Parker music taste, though.
Well, that's a whole lot of links to individual songs and not a coherent playlist at all, but I wanted to cover as many different bands/eras/ideas as I could work in. I'm sure I missed some though.

two years ago I tossed my designs for some fan cogs, the adbot department, onto tumblr. well its been a while and ive gotten back into toontown again, so! it was about time I gave them a fresh coat of paint and a few new faces. please zoom in/open in new tab for detail!
the adbots deal primarily in broadcasting and propaganda. they aim to reach toons through their tvs and radios, either convincing them to buy their products or their ideals, or skipping that in favor of straight-up brainwashing. a quick tldr of each cog below the readmore, if you’re interested!
- ⚙️-
sockpuppet - a bold new recycling technique using parts from cogs that were either faulty or too broken to put together properly was used to create these lackeys. they can only mimic other cogs voices and follow orders very well, but most cogs dont like working around them- likening them to zombies and being generally unsettled by their presence.
signal jammer - adbot tech support, these guys are tech-addicted and always grouchy. usually because they keep accidentally jamming their own phone signals! they tend to work as cameramen, engineers, really any behind the scenes help an adbot would need.
viral marketer - working alongside signal jammers, these guys are ideas cogs and adept with technology themselves. small and numerous, none of the ideas they come up with are very good... but thats why they make so many of them. one of them is bound to have a profitable idea eventually!
wheeler dealer - these speedy cogs are door to door salesmen and expert at pestering toons until they just give up and take whatever theyre selling. they often run advertisements on cog radio signals and slip themselves into commercial breaks.
motor mouth - fast talking loudmouths, these cogs feature primarily in lengthy- and loud- infomercials. they have boistrous personalities and a smile that could sell sand to a beachgoer. however, they tend to get caught up in rambling unrelated to their actual sales pitch, seriously damaging their productivity.
string puller - these cogs tend to hide behind the scenes and help produce most of the adbot syndicated shows and advertisements. theyre sketchy talent scouts whose contracts always- always- have strings attached. often seen with a posse of sockpuppets, they love bossing them around.
talking head - they say each face has its own personality- but theyre all so boring, nobody can tell the difference. these cogs make watching paint dry seem interesting! their natural lack of charisma can be downright deadly to a toon if they spend too long listening to their droning.
crowd pleaser - uncharacteristically upbeat, these cogs seem fun until you learn that they work exclusively with talking heads. they charm toons into watching their shows before switching to their co-host, who can turn a toon sad before they can even change the channel! theres an insidious nature under that cheerful grin.
tv personality - these bots rarely leave the adbot studios, and thats a good thing- they’re highly dangerous! they seem to have technology similar to toon hypno goggles, and it works through a broadcast signal to boot. thankfully, their ego refuses to let them take parts in a show or commercial they feel is ‘below their level’- seriously reducing their screen time.

After letting this book stew in the back of my mind a couple days, I've come to add some more points that I was thinking about after I first managed to unload most of my thoughts.
i. In one of the many examples of characters telling each other how much they've changed, Thomas tells Alastair that Alastair is not the same he was before. That Alastair wouldn't have rushed to help Thomas when he was arrested. Wouldn’t have followed Thomas the first place and to make sure he was safe. The person Alastair used to be wouldn’t have looked after Matthew and wouldn’t be reading book after book about paladins to try to help his sister. The first two, three points I can agree on, but that last part. Either Thomas knows nothing about Alastair and Cordelia's relationship, or the writing knows nothing about Alastair who did his everything so Cordelia had happy childhood with a loving father without the darkness behind it all. Seriously.
ii. In the end, it is told that Anna and Ari are looking to adopt kid(s) because there are many Nephilim orphans. Thomas and Alastair talk how they will never get to have kids, but it is never addressed why they couldn't adopt also.
iii. Jesse trains vigorously in order to build up strength, James is looking to train with someone else than Matthew. Why do we never see any adult Shadowhunters train in the series? As if they do not need to maintain and preserve their skills and strength.
iv. James and Alastair never conclude their feud or arrive to a truce.
v. James and Grace never arrive to any conclusion either with each other.
vi. James' story was so tied to Cordelia, Matthew, and Belial that all the other conflicts that were previously introduced weren't properly concluded. Just because James tells Cordelia he isn't angry and no longer cares or thinks about that stuff, in the narrative sense they still remain open with the characters he does not even interact with.
vii. Additionally to the Lightwoods not getting to grieve their children: When Gideon and Sophie appeared at the Iron Tombs, the writing didn't acknowledge them any more than making them present. No reaction, no emotion, nothing that even remotely touched the fact that their nephew had just died by Tatiana, that Gabriel and Cecily have now gone through the same incredibly awful loss as they had right before.
viii. There is similar passiveness in the narrative seen in Queen of Air and Darkness: When Robert has died, Alec rises from beside Robert's body and basically throws himself at Magnus, but Magnus isn't a participant in the action/has no reaction (for instance, doesn't hold Alec or embrace him back). When Isabelle cries because of Robert's death, she is sitting on a couch with Alec and is clinging to him and sobbing against his shoulder, but Alec, like Magnus in that scene mentioned above, isn't written doing anything. His lack of action (for instance, holding his arms around Isabelle or consoling her) just gives the image of him passively sitting there while Isabelle cries her heart out. Similarly Gabriel does have no reaction to Alex's kidnapping, he just holds Cecily who does. But then Cecily or Gabriel aren't allowed to have reaction to Kit actually dying.
ix. Cecily's absence in the final battle could be read as that she remained in Idris because of Alexander (and Kit's death), but having no mention of her or how she is fairing in the rest of the book is just insanely callous.
x. Lucie's secret about the ghosts in their parabatai ceremony rehearsal came out of nowhere since Lucie never really did show any apprehension for any reason becoming parabatai with Cordelia?
xi. The characters are once again attracted to each other's appearance.
xii. Anna's "slim curves" being a constant aspect told about her looks.
xiii. Why is that the Herondale kids (excluding the other part of the pair) are the only ones to have parabatai? It's so strange that such concept as parabatai is "rare" among the Nephilim when they could just benefit greatly from warrior partners who can draw strength from one another, draw stronger runes on one another, and just in general be stronger in battles.
xiv. Thomas is constantly comparing himself to James and Matthew (and no one else) :/ Wonder why...
xv. What meaningful thing did Matthew's character actually do as to the plot in this book? He had no integral part other than being James' voice after James is being possessed by Belial.
xvi. Why was the Blackthorn sword such a huge deal anyway? Wasn't there suppose to be a name for it?
xvii. Jesse's "stolen" runes are never addressed again, neither whether he got them stripped. Which either way raises the question of whether Shadowhunters stripped from their runes (which is told to be a painful procedure) and send into exile could have then reapplied just as well? Could someone like Edmund Herondale who was stripped of his Marks technically become a Shadowhunter once more?
xviii. Why were Lucie's and James' respective powers tied to Belial himself? Belial had no use for Lucie and says as such that he holds no interest over her. Why there is no actual consequence of having 1/4 of Greater Demon blood since their powers disappeared with Belial?
xix. Similarly to Gabriel and Cecily, Kit and Grace had more authentic build-up to a possible relationship whereas all the others were incredibly fabricated and contrived.
xx. There was an illustration (collector's first edition) of Cordelia holding the ice sword. It was supposed to be a tease for the readers waiting for the publication of the book, but then it was just one scene and didn't even really matter even though Cordelia slew Tatiana in Lilith's name.
xxi. Jesse berates and blames Grace for having a choice and making the wrong one as to the whole bracelet mess, but what would've become of Grace had she refused? This is never thought of or addressed by anyone, the least by Jesse. No one but Kit was interested in Grace's victimhood and healing.
xxii. Jesse and Grace's relationship is just left unaddressed the rest of the book (Aside that everyone is looking for James to know how to feel their independent feelings and ganging up on her) after Jesse gets mad at her. They become closer once more towards the end but the writing still rather leaves all things unsaid, so unconcluded.
xxiii. Alastair doesn't bond with anyone else than Thomas. Everyone is doing their missions with their romantic partners because that's how things always go in this series. Why care about mixing things up a bit and have different character interactions?
xxiv. Things that disappeared from previous installment: Ari's wish to befriend Grace, Grace's secret about Tatiana wanting her to seduce Jesse, the rumor/supposition/fact that Grace was bought by Tatiana.
xxv. James barely, if at all, grieves Kit or acknowledges his passing. Cordelia is the same. Matthew does a few times. Thomas was the only one to carry Kit's death with him to the end. It was absurd how quickly Kit's death was brushed aside. He didn't even get a funeral nor even as little as a mention of such.
xxvi. Kit and Grace would've become revolutionary inventors in the Shadowhunter spheres but that would've been too powerful, I guess. (Also great how the only big character described as not conventionally attractive dies??)
xxvii. James and Cordelia's relationship leans heavily on previously established feelings and lacks substance and chemistry, just words and physical desire.
xxviii. If Cordelia's bond with Lilith is ended the moment Belial dies by her blade, then how was she able to heal James with paladin sword?
xxix. Do all the protagonist need to go dimension-hopping as if not to be lesser than the previous ones? No matter, the TMI gang still holds the crown since they've been to Edom and Diyu. TID zero.
xxx. I'm assuming Clare thought it was better that Alec descended from Alex (just assuming since I don't yet know what the "real" family tree looks like), probably also because Kit and Grace don't have the HERONDALE HAIR and obviously their children possibly couldn't.
xxxi. All the unnecessary things in this book greatly outweigh the necessary ones. I don't see any re-read value in any of this. And I still don't know what the series name refers to.

Okay so I wanna go deeper into the one where Y/N dies and Craig + Kenny r the ones who pulled the Basil and Sunny, so i'll divide it in four parts
The incident - Alright, sohonestly i have NO idea who would be sunny or basil in this case, both of them fit the idea, but for now I'll go with craig just based on how many tiktok omori au creek videos ive seen where craig takes sunny's role. I'd say the argument could be about Y/N's safety, maybe it could be that she decided to hangout with team stan and they got into like a really dangerous situiation, nobody was hurt but craig is freaking out, so he starts arguing about Y/N's safety and stuff
Eventually, push comes to a shove (heh) and awh shit Y/N gets pushed down the stairs, boom rip. ao ofcourse now xraig is probably like having a mental breakdown because HE JUST PUSHED HER DOWN THE FUCKING STARIS and he keepts panicking. around that time Kenny would come inside whoever's house they were in, because if he was at the scene while they were arguing he wouldve definetly steped in
In all honesty, no idea how they came up with the staged suicide, it probably involved a lot of arguing, screaming and crying, but eventually they agree to do so
Dreamworld - So as I stated before, they would both have their own respective headspace
I feel like in both headspaces, basil would be the other, idk how to phrase it honestly. as in, in kenny's headspace, craig would be basil, and in craigs headspace, kenny would be basil yknow??
Kenny's headspace would be pretty much identical to the one ingame, maybe it'd be a bit more similar to a ghetto? idk just a thouht. while craigs nothing would really happen, id think most of the headspace would be in someone's house or at tweek bros (of course in both of them Y/N would take mari's role)
I don't have a lot to say about headspace honestly
Realworld - After the incident, everybody just shut themselves in someway or another. Obviously, Stan would be the most devastated, going into a deep depression that lasts a while like Hero's. I feel as the group just sort of slip apart after that. As in, they went to their respective teams and just didn't talk as much
After the incident, craig and kenny wouldn't even speak to eachother anymore, they can't even bring to do so knowing what they did. Kenny especially, he feels as if its craig's fault Y/N died since he was the one that pushed her.
Headcanons I have -
Craig would be the most likely to have the hikikomori route
Stan wouldn't dye hia hair anymore nor paint his nails anymore, because of both reminding him of Y/N and not taking as much care for himself
Kenny wouldn't spend as much time in headspace, since he still takes care of Karen
Stan,Kyle,Clyde and Tweek would be the ones that visit Y/N's room most
Shelley came to visit to attend the funeral
Butters shared an animal crossing island with Y/N, but now he can't even think about it without crying

i love how you talk about how the argument is about craig & reader fighting about her safety + well being because that is seriously spot on—despite having a gives-no-fucks attitude i can definitely see craig constantly worried + checking his phone whenever reader is out with her brother & his group of friends because of all the crazy shit that they get up to ((bad things always seem to follow them around & who can blame him? they stole his fucking birthday money + got him stranded in peru haha))
reader eventually has had enough because while craig has his reasons, that’s still her older brother that he’s talking shit about & while they always bicker + fight like no tomorrow, his baby sister’s safety is always stan’s top priority ((has been since they came out of the womb)). so of course, after some time & heated words getting thrown around, she get’s fed up with the conversation & tries to walk away
he quickly grabs onto her wrist because no, you’re not listening Y/N!! we always get into shit about this and i’m so fucking tired of having to worry my ass off whenever you’re with them which leads to them tugging & pulling because she doesn’t want to deal with this right now but craig thinks that they don’t deal with it enough. obviously, he doesn’t want to hurt his baby while he’s blinded by frustration so he loosens his grip. but this unluckily occurs at the same time she does one harsh yank, causing her body to wobble from the force until she loses her footing & suddenly all she can see is craig’s frantic expression + his outstretched arm as she’s falling down the stairs
i love how you added that kenny’s presence would’ve majorly played a role in everything because yes, the overprotective blonde would have definitely stepped in to help mediate the fight if he was at the scene & things would have definitely ended up differently!! you’re absolutely right in the fact that there will be a lot of frantic screaming, disbelieving crying, and frustrated arguing as they try to take in the image of their once lively shared significant lover—her skin ashen + her once expressive eyes looking eerily hollow & empty
i honestly think it would have to be kenny to be the one to come up with the staged suicide because while craig & him aren’t romantically involved, he’s grown to care for the male ravenette during his time with reader and wouldn’t want him to end up in shit with the police. even now, he can’t bring himself to hate the taller teen because while he did ultimately play a hand at accelerating reader’s demise, he’s constantly shown how much he loves & cherishes her in his own way. craig can’t gather his thoughts as he stares at his violently trembling hands because he did this to her while kenny internally panics & curses because someone will come home soon to see what happened
obviously, craig will be violently overcome with guilt that he killed reader whereas kenny’s will be due to the fact that he can’t believe he let everyone believe his wonderful ray of sunshine killed herself. he feels fucking terrible that he disrespected her body by hanging it by the neck at the tree outside of the Marsh’s backyard. the same body he’s gently held in his warm embrace countless of times, the one that has always given him the softest & warmest of affectionate and reassuring kisses
he never gave her a proper closure with her loved ones ((the casket had to be closed due to the hanging)) and in turn, fucked up everyone’s last living image & memory of her
… and he disrespected her like that with a staged suicide in the afterlife, the one he claims to love so much & holds closest to his heart
i love the idea of the other being basil in each of their own headspaces!! the two can’t help but to be scornful towards the other because of obvious reasons which leads to them not talking anymore. and yes, i adore the notion that kenny’s headspace would be like omori’s colorful dreamworld with stan’s group except the surroundings would be more ghetto to reflect his poor upbringing. i firmly stand by the idea that craig’s dreamworld would be similar to omori’s whitespace when he’s just sitting but omori’s blackspace when he’s aimlessly wandering around ((in contrast to kenny getting into all sorts of crazy adventures with the guys)) and he’d drive the knife into his body when he wants to return to whitespace
while reader was the glue that brought craig + kenny together from their nonconventional relationship, she was also the glue holding all of stan’s group & craig’s group together
AND YOUR HEADCANNONS OMG—I HAD SO MANY FEELS WHEN I WAS READING THEM BECAUSE THEY’RE SUCH SMALL DETAILS THAT MAKE THE DIFFERENCE IN THIS TRAGEDY
i love the idea that stan wouldn’t bleach his hair or paint his nails black anymore because those actions remind him of reader—his sister used to do it for him & it was always a source of quality time + getting each other’s undivided attention
i love how kenny wouldn’t be in headspace as much because of karen—he still has all these responsibilities forced onto him because of his parents & he knows how much reader cares for his younger sister. he continues to look out for her in the real world because reader would be so disappointed if he didn’t
yes yes yes!!! stan, kyle, clyde & tweek would definitely be the ones to visit reader’s room the most even when she’s gone ((randy + sharon have left it virtually untouched in memory of their daughter)) and would be the ones to visit her grave the most—to talk to her & update her on things & just to spend time with her even if she can’t reply
but also, butters would be part of the constantly visiting group!!
but then this got me thinking—what if in craig & kenny’s rush, they didn’t properly check reader’s condition + didn’t properly stage the hanging ((they used a jump rope for fuck’s sake))? what if instead, she’s stuck in the hospital and years deep into a coma? then stan, kyle, clyde, butters, & tweek would visit her everyday to replace the flowers in her vase etc.
you literally broke my heart when you said butters doesn’t touch his switch anymore because he cant bring himself to change anything about their shared animal crossing island—it’s the same thing with clyde & reader’s shared minecraft world

You know that post I made here? I finally got around to rewatching the episode and I took some pictures to show what I was talking about with Brenner taking special notice of Henry and Eleven, particularly his reactions toward Henry. Also notice the way Brenner's reactions are not so much curiosity as much as they are annoyance toward Henry? Or at least thats how they read to me which is interesting, imo. The following scene, when Eleven beats two shows the same stuff

AND for extra interest, Brenner's behavior while he has Henry tortured is also similar. I'm not sure how you would describe his stance and expressions here. He seems annoyed and exasperated but also kind of apprehensive? Which may indeed point to my little "theory" that Brenner was having Henry tortured in order to prevent him from being able to intervene while the other test subjects attacked Eleven (Not that I think Henry could have helped much without his powers but the other subjects probably wouldn't have tried to harm Eleven and/or would have stopped their attack if Henry popped up). Which would really mean Henry was telling the truth about everything.

Bonus: There is blood on Henry's uniform so this wasn't some "light" tasing or anything they were really giving it to him, which is fucked up! Behind the scenes pics have shown Henry was bleeding from his ears and nose. If the whole literally losing consciousness wasn't enough to indicate how heavy handed and kind of outrageous this actually was.

Nextly, someone went to the effort of making a very good gif set of this so here is some gifs from the scene where Two is "punished" while Brenner tells them not in these words that just because they show talent doesn't mean they are "safe". Again this kind of backs up everything Henry said about how he was trying to help Eleven. It seems he knew Eleven was in danger and tried to save her, like, genuinely. It seems he thought if he gave her tips to help her improve she would show the kind of "talent" Brenner wanted to see, thus protect her. It didn't work this way however and it seems this scene with Two being punished (not to mention Henry's own pretty brutal punishment prior) seems to be the moment it really resonates with Henry that talent has not spared any of them abuse and it will not spare Eleven from Brenner's plans against her. IN FACT, as Henry admits, it seems to have only made it worse.
Final thought? Henry Creel did nothing wrong. But no, seriously, I actually think its a bit interesting how it seems there was potential noticed within Eleven and Brenner planned to harm her to bring it out, but Henry tried to step in and bring it out of her without hurting her and Brenner takes some type of issue with this? Technically Henry was kind of helping. He was helping Eleven bring out her powers without anyone getting hurt. A little odd that this isn't what Brenner wanted? But then we've literally seen Brenner torture Eleven, a scared little girl, for the great crime of not having the heart to kill a cat so that tracks, actually. Which LIKE I ALSO SAID in my post about this, it seems to work toward being like a TWIST in the story that shows HENRY was the one with actual benevolent intentions and behavior toward Eleven. Brenner was the one instead trying to hurt and use her the whole time (like he did to henry) Side note, I think this makes complete sense not just from a I'm here to apologize for Henry Creel angle but also from a "this shit canon stop acting like he's evil for no reason" angle because moreover it makes sense that Brenner would have fully encouraged antagonism and competition between the other numbers. Keeping them enemies with each other, competing with each other and keeping this weirdo lord of the flies hierarchical environment between them meant they couldn't essentially unionize against Brenner. Brenner being mad and concerned that Henry had the audacity to treat Eleven kindly and with friendship feels to me that Brenner wanted to ensure none of them had supports outside of himself. It massively helps him in keeping his control of all of them. So yeah, hope that all makes sense I'm sure someone can probably word it better but there you go.

Can't really choose because:
Mikoto looked so damn at peace here since he's finally able to catch a break
The devastation John felt when he finally realised he screwed Mikoto over big time for what he thought was good for him still hurts me every time I see this scene
7. favorite relationships with another character if they weren't in milgram, the way you'd imagine or would like them to be?
I do have this whole ass AU living in my head where no one is a murderer and living a healthier life, but still coping with their trauma of what could have led them to murder. Also it's more Amane-centred but ANYWAYS.
In that AU, where Mikoto isn't working in an exploitative asf company, yet still enjoys his line of work and can support his fam, I can see him trying to hang out with the rest of the cast from Milgram. Just anytime when he's off work, he'll catch up with whoever wants to chat for a bit. He'll go out with anyone! Maybe with Mahiru as she chats away about what's happening in her life, with Fuuta to just let him vent and maybe watch him play some arcade/mobile games, with Kotoko to just chill. Oh, there's still the smoking group! Night out drinking (Mikoto just gets non-alcoholic drinks tho).
As for Mikoto with John, I guess he'd try to come to terms that he basically has a headmate living inside him, but still try to stay optimistic about it. He knows John is looking out for him (no murder in this AU here), and he's working on communicating better with him too. Mikoto tries contacting him by writing stuff in a journal, and after a while, John also writes back. He also leaves sticky notes around their home to remind Mikoto to take care of himself.
Also also, John is here to listen to whatever is upsetting Mikoto, which he refuses to show anyone. Only John knows, and he comforts him as best as he can. Making sure Mikoto is tucked in, doing the chores around their home as Mikoto rest, etc.
12. what do you wish would be discussed more often about them in the fandom?
I really hope I'm not saying anything wrong here, but here goes...
It's mentioned a lot by fans already that they wished John wasn't the stereotypical bad alter that's always shown in media, but hey, he has layers and more personality than just assumed to be a cold, ruthless murderer, so we got that! I guess what I wish talked about more is how stress from work is a factor in why John committed the murder for Mikoto's sake. There are reasons behind why the murder happened, and honestly, I think it's the company Mikoto worked at that caused this whole thing to spiral out of control for them. Doesn't justify murder, but I can see why John did what he did when he believed what he did was to relieve Mikoto's stress, thus saving him.
18. which non-deco vocaloid songs do you think suit them?
I'm still thinking, but I think Lost One's Weeping fits Mikoto well. Mikoto tried so hard to do well and please everyone, but he is finally cracking since what he tried to pursue wasn't what he thought it would be, and now he's lost. However, I thought of The Servant of Evil fits John as well since he's willing to die for Mikoto if it meant no further harm would come to him.
21. do you have any similarities with them/relate to something in them?
...You're really asking me this.

In a sense, yes. It's very personal and I don't want to get into too much of it here, but I just want to protect whatever goodness I have in myself while continuing to exist. I want that part of me to be happy, that's all.

My thoughts on Vere
I want to say that .....
Actually, Vere is not even my type...
I just give you a hint for understanding

As for game romance:
DA fandom
Zevran - Isabella - Iron Bull (yeah yeah joke about them being whores, but I like how they overcome difficulties, how they hide true feelings and Warden - Champion - Inquisitor try to read them,to talk things out, to form mental connection,
you have an option not to have sex with Zevran throughout the whole game and be lovers and get married;
you will patiently wait 3 years for Isabella to talk about feelings towards each other;
as for Bull... don't kill his screw...ahaha...awkward... learn to read him, just like he reads you and shower him with affection.
Vere may seem close to game romance but still there are lots of difference
All of them are not good educated (in arts, I mean, because Vere certainly does), mostly act friendly (Vere seems distant while three of other characters show true feelings), careless and charming, sex jokes, physical way of fight (Vere has some magic abilities, he steales MC's key with magic and has some shadows behind him in GG. But i am sure he uses weapon, like stilettos or his hands, hehe) , sarcastic, sudective (I mean clothes and lack of it, wink).
As for visual novels, Vere is just.... stands out, so to speak.
I guess his romance will go as Isabella's from DA2 or similar to it.
There will be a lot of refusal and denying of his feelings
Being torn apart between personal desires and MC's well being
Needs time and space to accept the thought of stable and healthy relationship, to change lifestyle
Sex and romantic relationship are different stuff ( when you feel love to someone, you can't have sex with that person. Yeah sounds funny, but when you romance Isabella or Zevran, there was a period of time when they caught feeling to mc and rejected all mc's offer to stay alone in a while. So Isabella and Zevran needed time to proceed that sex can be with a person who loves you and you love back)
That's what I remembered from da
As for Vere,
I just see 2 ways of romance
1. You both flirt with each other, but you always stop it when things go too far and spicy ("surrender" scene hello)
2. MC acts naive (naturally or on purpose) and does't react to his provocation
No matter what type of MC is there MC and Vere have to work together
Obviously, Mc has to reveal their curse. So I see their first interaction as something mutual.
Vere needs a person who has no connections to the city and Senobium, who can be useful to him (after all, mc's curseis damn dangerous and can be used against someone when no one expects that), who can be easily manipulated (Do you remember when he talks about MC's background like ..."Poor thing, I give your life a new meaning" and stuff like that).
As for Mc's side, he has an access to Senobium where he can look for info, he is experienced sharlatan having some shadow magic which MC has already seen, he is in desperate just like MC, he knows the city perfectly.
And their partnership will be business-like. Of course, Vere will tease and flirt with mc but he will keep his distance. He seems to me as someone whose trust is hard to gain but when you do... Omg.... hehe.... He won't change at all, except he will mess around more with you. He is that kind of a person who is normal outside (sassy and bitchy) but he melts inside every time when you do something cute, funny, ordinary things like cleaning or fixing your clothes.
In private he demands affection of yours in his way. Glaring at you expectingly, telling some nonsense/ words of double meaning to get attention. Then you look at him to see what's going on, you see him sitting seductively as usual , an innocent smile on his lips, but his eyes glow with promises of more...
Anyway...
He seems to me as very, very, very jealous person (he literally is jealous of Ais' pets imao even though they are just fwb). But he doesn't show it or he thinks so lol, you have to understand that by his spout face, his irritation and you should go w him somewhere privately (you have to trick him first because he won't go just like that, eg "oh i saw some slutty costume for you a fight between clerics of senobium and bloodhound, let's go) and give him small kisses all over his face. He definitely will tease you afterwards but during the process he is such a lovey dovey mess
He loves when you know what he wants... that's not what you may think ~~~~
I mean that guy can go to whorehouse, I am sure some important people of Senobium like to use him as a sex toy. Sex is casual stuff for him.
So when you give him a gift or cook his favorite dish, or just ask his opinion, he dies internally as he is overwhelmed w that affection you give him. Your treatment is so unnatural, unexplainable to him and yet so endearing and he craves for more...
But he won't ask it openly at early stages of relationship
Buuuut when you two are together for a long time he will be the one taking initiative, he won't ask your opinion he simply grabs your hand ans places it on his head and says "Between ears and try not to disturb my hair" or similar to it ehehe.
My list isn't over but I wanted to say something
I understand why Vere isn't so popular as babygirl of TS fandom:
1. his type is known in mass media ( slim, slippery, sarcastic, nasty dark magic wizard with some BIG ambitions). I can name some: Tomoe from anime Kami-sama Hajimemashita, sorcerers from WITCHER, mini boss from dlc PATHFINDER kingmaker. The list isn't ended but I am lazy to think about it.
2. he can kill mc ( it's so fun looking how ppl hate him for that. Vere, keep going!!!)
3. Has deep connection w Ais, some ppl don't want to ruin their relationship, others are jealous but afraid to admit
4. he is considered to be all about sex thing/flat and his boobs aren't big.

My Thoughts:
I WROTE AN ENTIRE THREE PARAGRAPH THOUGHTS AND THEN TUMBLR DELETED IT NAYHHH. Okay I'm going to try and recreate it. The thing that always gets me about Morgan's writing is the level of detail. It's not just writing like it becomes a whole experience? the font and the notebook page and all these little add ons that just sink you so deep into the story!!! My favorite scene has to be the tattoo scene I remember Morgan talking about this one with us and workshopping it and watching this story come to fruition was such an utter joy. it's on my short list of fics to read when I need a good grief moment haha

Okay so I wrote a fic really similar to this one because I NEEDED more of early Stobin, and damn if this didn't hit that niche so perfectly!!!! Like ough I just Robin and Steve have such a lovely really complicated relationship. Both of them have no idea how love works, but they do love each other and it's real OMG I loveeeeeee they're so good! I also love the characterizations here. Steve and Robin still figuring out how this deep confusing real thing between them works ough I love them

This one is like ough a Hershey kiss!! It's short and so so perfect. I love Jonathan POV stuff and this has such a good take on him and how he would feel barely knowing Steve but really wanting to know Nancy and having these emotions for her There's this amazing line in here about Jonathan 'seeing' Steve by being the empty house behind him in the photograph. How Steve is so desperate and hollow, but Jonathan because he's into Nancy sees that and sees it as a flaw of Steve instead of having sympathy for that and it's so OGUH it's amazing

I LOVE A WAYNE AND EDDIE FIC AGH! Okay the Munson Lore!!! I love how every writer was like yeah yk what I must include some backstory here for Wayne and Eddie and we are all right LMAO god the scene with Eddie's shaved head it HURTS me like genuinely the way Wayne asks if its what he wants and its so good. IT's hard to explain like there's so so much going on in this fic and it's longer but it's this really well crafted one shot with hints I also adore the way Steve and Wayne develop a relationship here it's not a focus but it's always one of my fave thigns to see in fics!!!! Anyway it's great
