All I’m saying is, if the Doctor regenerates as a man and has Yaz continue to travel with them, and only THEN does the show start to portray Yaz having explicitly and undeniably romantic feelings for the Doctor, I’m showing up at BBC headquarters with a flamethrower and the rage of an ancient god

(AN: i havent watched the spn finale)
Dean cruised around on his heterosexual car that somehow made it to heaven. He felt...strange. Disappointed, almost, which was ridiculous because he was in heaven and that should make him happy.
A figure suddenly appeared in front of him, and he swore (is swearing allowed in heaven? idk) and pulled the car to a stop before he could hit it.
Dean rolled down the car's window. He leaned out to get a better look at the figure, and saw that its face was hidden with a pulled-over cloak. "Who are you?"
Rather than reply, the cloaked person walked forward to him. He leaned by the window and asked, "Are you happy?"
Dean raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"
"I mean, are you happy with your finale? Surely it didn't go the way you were expecting it to."
This person... Dean couldn't quite see his face underneath that hood, but he understood what Dean felt. His disappointment. Even though a cloaked person in heaven was probably pretty sketchy, he found himself trusting him, and before he knew it he was spilling his out feelings.
"I just don't get it. How come no one would tell me where Cas is? Is he still in turbo gay hell or not? How come it still isn't clear whether I love him back or if I'm just straight? Also, why was my cause of death so fucking stupid? I really expected my death to be more impactful than getting impaled by a juggalo vampire. Just, why?"
Though the face remained unseen beneath the hood, Dean got the feeling he was smiling. "Follow me," the cloaked figure said, then began to walk away. After a second of hesitation, Dean got out of the car and followed.
After some time walking, it became clear they had reached a part of heaven that Dean had never seen before. One door stood by itself as they approached. The cloaked figure paused by the door, then pushed it open. Inside was a room that looked suspiciously like a support group meeting room. A handful of people of varying styles were already seated when they entered.
"I just don't get it," one person said, and Dean looked at him and saw he was a teenager wearing what looked like a blue anime space suit. "Why advertise Klance so much if it wasn't going to be canon?"
"It's called queerbaiting," said a British voice, and what looked like a modern day Sherlock Holmes placed a comforting hand on the spaceman's shoulder. "Trust me, I've been there."
A woman laughed, and Dean turned to see a medieval looking young queen with a dragon. "I'd rather be queerbaited than suddenly turned evil for shocks. At least have some buildup beforehand!"
"I know all about buildup," a regular looking man who looked like he might be a dad grumbled. He gestured with his hands angrily and said, "The show is called How I Met Your Mother. So why don't they show the mother??"
Dean raised an eyebrow and turned back to the cloaked figure that had brought him here. "Where are we?"
"This," replied the figure with a wide gesture at the room, "is the Shitty Finale Club, where we complain about how sucky our series finales were."
So this was the place. This was where Dean could freely express his disappointments about how Supernatural had ended. He felt at home.
Before taking his place in the room, he eyed the figure and asked one more question, "Are you part of the Shitty Finale Club?"
The figure chuckled. "Yes," he answered with a sigh. Then he reached a hand out from his cloak and pulled back the hood so that his head could finally be visible. Snow white hair and glowing green eyes stared back.
"I'm Danny Phantom, and Phantom Planet isn't canon fuck you."

It’s not about a conspiracy.
So Supernatural ended and, in usual Supernatural fashion, it went down in the craziest, most meta way possible. Two episodes before the finale, they canonized Destiel through Cas’ love confession to Dean then, in one last queerbait, didn’t give Dean a chance to respond then completely left Cas out of the rest of the narrative. Of course it couldn’t end there so a dub error aired in Latin and South America where Dean reciprocates.
Fans, of course, lose their shit and conspiracies fly that this was the CW quashing the Destiel storyline.
Was it?
I seriously doubt it. Not that the CW isn’t very problematic with killing gays and the movement to bring this to light is a good one. However, the script that we have seen says Dean doesn’t reciprocate. Misha said it wasn’t in the script. And the ending that we got confirms that they never intended this to be anything more than Castiel’s ending (hell, the band Kansas may have planned to get more air time ROFL).
It’s much more likely that the whole thing is shitty, thoughtless writing. Let’s be honest, SPN fumbled their way into greatness way more often then they planned it. Let’s face it, Kripke never intended this show to go beyond 2 dudes in a cool muscle car killing things. He never meant to address the deeper issues of fate, God, angels, and free will - he has said as much. He was extremely lucky to have gotten some very talented writers like Ben Edlund who were able to make this shallow idea into a deeper, more complex story. And if it weren’t for the incredible talent of the actors who brought life and meaning and nuance to some pretty bad scripts, this should would never have survived this long. Jensen Ackles’ facial expressions can give us so much more than the words that were on the script. Not to mention a passionate and engaged fandom that could take a throw away line and latch onto it (likely to the surprise of even the writers).
Endings are hard and writers who have to write endings often try to go for shock value and edginess over good story completion. This is why the best show endings are usually the ones that were planned as one story arc from day 1 (see Black Sails, The Good Place, Crazy Ex Girlfriend, Schitts Creek, Breaking Bad). These endings were designed as the culmination of the story narrative that was built towards it. They don’t need to end with happy endings and we may lose great characters, but the narrative and overall arcs stay true and are completed. That’s why they are so satisfying. Supernatural, on the other hand, was never supposed to go 15 years and no one had any idea how to end it. Each year they had to keep going they had to scramble to come up with and idea and Chuck being the ultimate big bad was a stroke of genius that was stumbled into and definitely not planned since the beginning.
When J2 decided it was time to move on, the writers had to figure out an ending. We know from cast meet and greets that as recently as weeks before the were supposed to shoot the finale it was still being changed and was pretty shaky.  On top of that, just as they were supposed to shoot their finales, Covid19 hit and whatever it was they planned had to be re-written because of restrictions and logistics and they couldn’t just wait till Covid was over because their cast and crew had new jobs lined up they needed to move on to. So, they scrambled and cobbled something together and, like GoT, HIMYM, and Dexter, tried to go for shock and edgy rather than looking back at the themes of their narrative to tie it all together. It ended up coming across as lazy and mediocre at best, regressive and queerphobic at worst. But I don’t think they ever planned to make this anything but a nostalgic homage to the pilot. Again, I’m sure they thought they were being clever, but it backfired.
It was so empty and disjointed from the rest of the narrative that much of the audience watched thinking that can’t possibly be what was planned! The story must have gotten gutted by the CW or something, right? Tell me they didn’t just completely ignore the boys’ character growth and the queer storyline that had been a major thread for a dozen years! Guys, that’s exactly what they did because, in their minds, having the finale be nothing but a call back to the pilot was some crackerjack writing. They were actually proud that they would get to make everyone cry, make only 30% of fans satisfied, and be so shocking they upstaged Game of Thrones for an ending (all Dabb quotes that I don’t feel like finding and citing but you can easily). Jared even talked about all the things they put in there from the clothes to John’s journal to make it a big homage to the pilot. Sadly, that approach just made it hollow because it made the audience wonder what the other 15 years were for. But sometimes writers shoot for something and miss... by a long shot.
So I know the conspiracies' can be fun. I have had a blast the last few days laughing at the memes and the powerpoints. But please, take them with a grain of salt and don’t go down a dangerous rabbit hole. The most likely answer is right in front of our faces: shitty writing. Stay sane. Stay an SPN family.
And by all means, keep fighting for better queer representation. Boycott the CW (I know I never plan to watch anything there again) and unfollow their social media. Stop spending money on official merchandise and support artists. Use the hashtags to bring attention to the treatment of LGBT characters in media. Make your voices heard loud that we deserve better. But if the focus is on some Spanish dub conspiracy, it will be brushed off as crazy fangirl nonsense. Focus on the actual intentional behavior that we know they did; the queerbait of Cas in 18 to gain audience interest for a finale that had no intention of paying off. Focus on the killing of all of the LGBT characters in media. And find stories of good representation and solid consistent story arcs to support (the ones I named above are a few excellent examples).
I love you, my passionate, thoughtful SPN family. Just try to stay sane and level headed through your ire.

every day i wake up and i remember that so many ppl in positions of power at spn hate their core fanbase.
I’m not sure who, i have some ideas (bobert for one) and I also know that some ppl very obviously dont hate us, but... it can’t be just a few people, there are too many instances where they really let us feel how they felt about us.
ok, its fair to call out and make fun of inc*st shippers, but why make becky, a w*ncest shipper, the defining image for the female fans for so long? I like how they chose to redeem her, I think it shows that some of the writers and producers were in our corner, but I keep remembering that s7 episode where Becky brainwashes Sam to marry her? The episode we dont talk about bc it was played for laughs but had such insane rapey undertones? And thats their stand-in for the female fans. Also the gay couple cosplaying w*ncest.
I thought the fan fiction episode was fun and I’m not that mad about it, Marie is a far better representation than OG Becky, oh but I do hate that they chose to include dean’s negative reactions to both w*ncest and destiel. as if one isnt literally inc*st.
i think the first time they realised how much they needed us was when they killed cas. the overwhelmingly negative fanresponse scared them into re-hiring misha, which is obviously the right choice, but its also the textbook definition of fanservice and i don’t think they ever got over that. I think thats also when they really realised  that they can bait us and thus followed the years of intentional queerbait and vehement denial as soon as someone dared to pick up on it. Honestly, the baiting is written into scripts, directions, talked about behind the scenes, had been for YEARS.... and they had the audacity to act like we were delusional, how fucking malicious.
We don’t know who stood on which side of that discussion, but we can assume that misha was in our corner (remember the “you are not crazy” tweet) and i dont think that endeared him to the people who already hated the fact that they had to use us for higher ratings.
The funny thing is: you can only bait for so long until your bait turns into canon. Thats literally what happened. They queerbaited themselves into a corner and couldnt get out and got mad about it. So we got the confession in the 3rd to last ep which is still beautiful. everyone directly involved in that did a beautiful job, but that doesnt change the fact that its so fucking evidently the last great queerbaiting attempt to get as many ppl as possible to watch the finale AND IT WORKED. Look at all the people (including me) who came back because of this. Queerbaiting works.
And then in the last two episodes they could do fuck all because the show is over, there is no need for “fanservice” anymore, you dont need to bait us anymore, we’re already watching the episode lmao. So why the fuck would they need to fall back on the much hated queer content.
I think 15x20 (aside from the covid related restrictions) was the closest tptb got to their ideal version of spn, bc deep in their hearts they are br*nlies and refused to understand that this version of spn hasn’t worked since season 2.
Ep 15x20 was their ideal spn episode, bc they finally got to do what they wanted without havng to account for fan response........ and the episode is shit lmao. This is what happens when you refuse to let a show evolve, when you see a large part of your fanbase as an enemy. You create shitty content. Death of the author, yall.

MEDIA THAT I RECOMMEND YOU CONSUME INSTEAD OF SUPERNATURAL FOR BOTH HEART AND HEALTH BROKEN DOWN BY TYPE OF MEDIA AND WHY YOU MIGHT LIKE IT IF AT ANY POINT YOU, LIKE MY POOR POOR SEVENTEEN YEAR OLD SELF, WERE INVESTED IN THIS ABSOLUTE GARBAGE FIRE OF A SHOW
with apologies to anyone on mobile who’s readmore function APPARENTLY doesn’t work
(I haven’t watched supernatural for at least five years and, given any sort of luck, I will never do so again, do not @ me)
hello babes. I am talking to you know bc I keep seeing supernatural, unironically, on my dash, and I think we can all do better. I see what’s happening and I think: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hU3i_o5Xd4g
Supernatural is fudge stripes. You are Megan. We can fix this.
So a list of alternate things that I think are overall better written/characterized/just generally more enjoyable that might scratch some of those itches:
TV SHOWS
Good Omens
okay look if u were on tumblr last year u probably already watched this show but like. If u haven’t, it’s only six episodes babe and there’s a large enough fandom that u can go down a fanart hole for days on end
Basic summary: the antichrist has reached that lovely young age where he’s supposed to bring about the apocalypse. An angel and a demon who have decided that actually they like the world as is, thank you very much, try to stop the end times. They’re not very good at it though, which makes for a comedy of errors.
Shared elements with supernatural that you might Vibe with: theologic (mostly christian) exploration/parody/imagery without inherently being a religious show. Fighting off the apocalypse narrative, which I think pretty much always goes hard as hell, but that’s just me. There’s a gay angel who’s socially awkward. There’s a fun very British demon. Touches on the hierarchies of heaven and hell, with framing Heaven as a bureaucracy and blurs the differences between angels and demons.  Pining. Tenderness. A deep nostalgia for 80s music, though in this case it’s specifically queen, and who doesn’t love queen. Main character has a weirdly strong bond with his black vintage car.  Satan is (sort of) fought.
~~
Gravity Falls
sometimes...things that are kids shows...with a set story and a predetermined ending...are better
(also this isn’t relevant to any of what I’m talking about but I really appreciate that Gravity Falls specifically went against the thing that most begged me about ATLA aka that a 15 year old girl would be like yeah I’m into a 12 year old boy because the 12 year old boy has a crush on me and I apparently don’t get to really have a say in this. How does that make sense.)
Basic Summary: Twelve year old twins Dipper and Mabel go to stay with their Grunkle Stan for the summer in a small Oregon town called Gravity Falls. Turns out this town is filled with all sorts of strange phenomena that they often have to confront, work around, learn about, or befriend!
Shared elements with supernatural that you might Vibe with: The core focus of the show is a close sibling duo, but like It’s obvious that the siblings actually like and love each other and while they have their spats it’s still incredibly clear that they deeply care about each other even with their differences LIKE SORRY SUPERNATURAL YOU CAN’T JUST TELL ME THAT SIBLINGS CARE ABOUT EACH OTHER AND THEN THEY SPEND ALL THEIR TIME FIGHTING AND LYING TO EACH OTHER AND GENERALLY ACTING LIKE THEY CAN’T STAND EACH OTHER’S COMPANY BUT THEN OOOHHH YOU CRY ON TOP OF THE HOOD OF A CAR EVERY THREE EPISODE AND SUDDENLY THEY’RE SOULMATES OR WHATEVER
Anyway. Yeah. GF has a solid sibling dynamic. Monster of the week that builds up to greater over-arching plot. A little bit of body horror, you know, for humor. Fair amount of meta humor playing with the tropes of the genre. A Good Ol Big Bad that tries to pit the siblings against each other. Have to fight the apocalypse (you’ll see this point on like a good half of these recs, I really like ‘what are we gonna do about Armageddon’ media). Interesting creature design. Planned, satisfying ending (which supernatural absolutely does not have, but I still think if it had ended with the season 5 finale like it uhh  pretty obviously was supposed to, that would sort of counted. Don’t revive shows that have clearly already told their stories kids.) Tie in media that gives you some fun extra stories when you miss the characters. (yes I read some of the supernatural novels when I was a c h i l d, yes I’m pretty sure there’s one or two of them still buried somewhere on my laptop, no I don’t wanna talk about it.) Older father figure (?) who owns a tbh kind of shitty shop. Both already in place and found family.
It’s a good show, and it’s two seasons. John Mulaney Voice: I dunno it’s 40 episodes
MINI REC ALERT! (mini recs are basically things that I’m not gonna go into detail about for whatever reason [probably either due to i’m not familiar enough with it OR I just don’t like. Have a bunch to say about it in regards to how it will scratch the itches presented to u by spn] but still seem like a Good Watch)
Mini Rec: Over The Garden Wall. Spooky Kids Media! Episodic! Miniseries so you can watch it in like 2 hours! Cool ass Animation! About two brothers encountering said spooky stuff! Big Bad tries to pit brothers against each other! Might haunt you for the rest of your life! Check it out!
~~
The Haunting of Bly Manor
I think about this show every goddamn day of my life. (Also not relevant but Greg Sestero makes a brief cameo in it and I was like hi greg my friend greg!)
Basic Summary: An girl named Dani, while staying in London, decides to take on an Au Pair job for two young children, an older brother named Miles (age 10) and the younger sister Flora (age 8) at the spoooooky and mysteeerious Bly Manor, and she gets far more than she bargained for.
Shared elements with supernatural that you might Vibe with: Okay so supernatural doesn’t actually do this but I know I KNOW why we let ourselves be queerbaited in 2012. Four words for you: CENTRAL! GAY! TRAGIC! ROMANCE! You want some pining? Some tenderness? Some LOVE? Some dealing with internalized homophobia but no, like, actual violent onscreen homophobia? HAVE I GOT THE SHOW FOR YOU. If ur favorite episodes where the ones that make you sob (for me it was kevin’s death on god), I recommend this show. If you wished that supernatural literally ever had consequences or perma deaths or didn’t retcon major plot events like every five goddamn episodes so that there could be some exploration of like grief and trauma through the lens of/ higher stakes of horror, I recommend this show. If you really do stay up at night picturing a supernatural that wasn’t made by dumbass cishettie white men hack writers but was actually allowed to have Dean and Cas be in love over the course of the show so they could have like actual development and not the most homophobic gay reveal of all time, I recommend this show. Hell, if you just want a banger ghost story in general, I recommend this show.
As for what they actually have in common: horror setting/aesthetic without actually being all that scary most of the time. A strong sibling duo, though they’re not nearly as much of the focus of Bly Manor. Found family. Strong themes of grief. Questions of what turns someone into a monster (and done much better) An actual, much better noble sacrifice done out of love. Escalation of stakes until there’s a big final confrontation. Semi-big bad trying to tear this family apart. Found and pre-installed family. Sad orphans.
Watch this show. Vibe with me. Cry with me. Yell at me about Owen Sharma
MINI REC ALERT!
Haunting of Hill House- spiritual predecessor to Haunting of Bly Manor, though they’re not actually the same universe/story. However, it’s made by the same dude and has a shared aesthetic/sensibilities/some of the cast. This is only a mini rec bc I haven’t actually seen it, but I’ve heard good things and that it, while much more heavily leaning into family dynamics, has similar themes of exploring Grief and Trauma through ghooossstttsss.
~~
Community
Okay I know that this may seem like a Wild rec considering community is a school sitcom with basically Zero paranormal elements but just like. Hear me out. And no this isn’t just because I think it’s a realy good show and I want more people to watch it, though that is a factor. If I was just recommending comedies that I think are good and more people should watch regardless of them serving as a replacement for supernatural I would demand you all go watch Galavant and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. I’m gonna demand it anyway. Everyone go watch Galavant and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Now back to your original program:
Basic Summary: A group of students at Greendale Community College form a Spanish study group, and things quickly go Off The Fucking Rails in the best way possible.
Shared elements with supernatural that you might Vibe with: All right I’m gonna be real honest this rec is for all of my (correct) bitches who’s favorite episodes of Supernatural were French Mistake, Changing Channels, and/or Mystery Spot. You think if Supernatural would’ve been fucking fantastic if it had been a committed comedy instead of a CW melodrama that occasionally landed some admittedly really fucking funny episodes/concepts, Community (and the movies on this list) will gently take you into its loving arms and give you everything you desire. It’s about the Meta comedy. It’s about the discussion, exploration, and subversion of common tropes within the format. It’s about the grand use of group/ found family dynamics in order to max both the goofs and the heart. It’s about fantastic callbacks. It’s about having one of the few “asshole with a heart of gold” leads I can actually stand because. You know. Growth. It’s about the INCREDIBLE genre and  pop culture parody. Which genre do they parody, you ask. All of them. They parody all the genres. The glee parody episode is a fucking masterpiece of television. If you don’t want to watch a show that features a Halloween party where everyone turns into zombies and the ABBA discography blasts in the background, you can stop reading right now, because I can guarantee you won’t be interested in a damn thing I have to say.
MINI REC ALERT: The X-Files. I’ve also never seen this but a: everything I’ve seen out of context has been fantastically weird and delightful b: it appears that there’s a general consensus that Scully and Mulder are one of the only valid straight couples so it’s probably pretty fun and c: let’s all be honest. Supernatural was already basically an x-files rip off, it had like half of their original writers swiped from the x-files crew, I’m pretty sure if you liked especially the first couple of seasons of supernatural, you’re gonna like the X-files.
~~
Subcategory: TV SHOWS ( A WHOLE TWO OF ‘EM, OR MORE LIKE ONE AND HALF IF YOU WANNA GET TECHNICAL) I’M SPECIFICALLY RECOMMENDING FOR THAT COCAINE HIT OF PURE UNADULTERATED UNCUT 2012 TUMBLR NOSTALGIA
BBC Merlin
Yes, I know the show ended in 2010. Yes, it still provides that 2012 Tumblr nostalgia. 2012 Tumblr is a feeling, not an actual time period.
I love this stupid show. I plan on rewatching it all over the month of January. I harbor a deep amount of fondness for it. It’s why every time I see literally any depiction of Merlin I get just so fucking excited, and why I’ve consumed as many ridiculous Arthurian adaptations as I have (side note: my two favorite other ridiculous Arthurian legend adaptation are Avalon High, a DEEPLY silly DCOM that is required viewing to level up friendship with me, and The Kid Who Would Be King, which is the only movie that I think truly understands the comedic potential of playing a King Arthur Adaptation mostly straight but everyone in it is 12. I’m not sure it intended to be as fucking funny as it was, but again, they’re all middle schoolers. I have never been more jealous of an actor than I was of the 22 year old that got to play a 16 year old dumbass Merlin who was sometimes also Patrick Stewart and did all of his magic with ridiculous hand gestures That should’ve been me that should’ve been me that should’ve been me. Also Sword in the Stone by TH White is pretty good, because Merlin knows germ theory in the fantasy 400’s and he just uses it to be petty mostly. Also listen to High Noon Over Camelot by The Mechanisms. Also Also I tend to prefer family friendly adaptations because they don’t have the uhhh. You know. Incest and sexual violence of the original legend. Love to Not have that shit!) Whether you watched it initially and are due for a rewatch, or you’re intrigued enough by the concept of the show to watch it for the first time, you should join me on this wild wild ride.
Basic Summary: You know who Guinevere, Arthur, and Merlin are, come on. BBC said let’s make em all YOUNG let’s make em SEXY let’s make em FAMILY FRIENDLY and let’s make magic REALLY SEEM LIKE A THINLY VEILED ALLEGORY FOR BEING GAY BUT TO THIS DAY IM NOT SURE IF THAT WAS INTENTIONAL OR NOT BUT IT SURE SEEMS LIKE IT WAS. @ THE BBC MERLIN CREATORS WHAT IS THE TRUTH BECAUSE THERE WAS SOME INTERVI-
Basic Summary but like a bit more helpful: A BABY version of Merlin (and by baby I mean like 20 year old.) is sent from his small town to the big city the Kingdom of Camelot to find his destiny. Staying with the town physician and friend of his mom’s, Gaius, he ends up as both his assistant and personal manservant to Prince Arthur. But in a kingdom where magic is punished with death and the prince seems hell bent on getting himself into situations that are going to kill him, the young sorcerer has his more than his share of work cut out for him.
Shared elements with supernatural that you might Vibe with: Primo supremo queerbaiting. Like, yeah, okay, it’s queerbaiting, you know it’s queerbaiting, but you watch some of the scenes and ur like okay. I know why I let this bait me. Obviously with a modern show, I would expect more, I would expect better, I would raise my standards, but I gotta admit. Some of these scenes are fuckin compelling as hell, and the subtext is like barely sub. Monster of the week shenanigans. Some awful CGI creatures but like a charming awful. Like the kind of awful that tells you their very limited budget was more focused on cool swords than realistic creatures. Episodic stories build into a more overarching plot, with things getting darker in season 4/5. Shitty father that end up eating shit and while the son of said father is rightfully conflicted and upset over the death it’s cathartic and victorious as all hell for the audience. Multiple hot evil women, and I love hot evil women. There’s also nice hot women, which is a bonus. These women don’t all immediately stupidly die, so that’s a nice change. Also like a LOT of sarcastic humor and shenanigans if u like Sass Merlin is there for u personally name a more iconic line than “Oh I’m sorry, how long have you been training to be a prat, my lord?” AND THAT’S IN THE FIRST FUCKIN EPISODE brilliant amazing fantastic show stopping. Also you know those like dumb hijink episodes where like Dean was possessed by the spirit of a dog or some shit? You bet your bottom fuckin dollar BBC Merlin has those kinds of storylines. Also I know some people go to spn bc it had that HUGE fanbase and like BBC Merlin’s fanbase is still SURPRISINGLY poppin even though it’s been a decade since there was new content so like. Have fun!

Doctor Who but Specifically the RTD Era
Look I’m not here to say that the first four seasons of reboot doctor who are the only good doctor who or inherently better than all the rest (though the RTD era is my favorite personally) BUT when ur seekin that sweet sweet superwholock frenzy nostalgia, this is the ‘who’ that is being referred to. Also like. Stan 9. We should all collectively stan the ninth doctor. Chris Eccleston, the Objectively Best Famous Chris, deserved better.
Basic Summary: An immortal alien that goes by “The Doctor” travels across time and space with a variety of different companions, often to try and save the day or fix a (sometimes self created) mess. It’s distilled campy sci-fi with a family friendly tone that has made me cry on several occasions.
Shared elements with supernatural that you might Vibe with: Monster of the week that, you guessed it, builds into bigger overarching plot style narrative. Fighting off the apocalypse, but like every couple of weeks because worlds are in danger a LOT. A semi-tragic romance that made people go absolutely buck fuckin wild bc pining n shit. Wamen, but they aren’t fridged. (actually for real though none of the main women die and I just think that’s really fun and flirty even though I could go on a COMPLETELY SEPARATE rant about the injustice of one of the character’s ending YES season 4 is my favorite season and one of my favorite pieces of media ever and I am currently actively recommending it to you  YES im still fucking pissed over how it ended YES we exist) Specifically, a Wonderful and Very Excellent woman named Donna who goes on a spa trip that doesn’t end up going very well. That seems like a highly specific example, and it is, but it did happen in both shows. (Also, to anyone that continued watching SPN after like idk season 9 what happened to Donna? I always liked her and I know she became a recurring character so like DM whatever probably injustice was the end of her story line pls and thank you) I’m also extra specifically recommending for Supernatural Fans and also The World At Large:  Season Four of Reboot Who. I rewatched it last year and it still goes so fucking hard. Donna Noble is the best character in existence. In regards to the appeal for SPN, personally I think the best part of SPN was when people who are soulmates went on adventures and tried to save the day and it was a good mix of banter and sincerity AND GUESS WHAT’S BASICALLY THE ENTIRETY OF SEASON 4 OF DOCTOR WHO. It’s so good y’all I wish Everything was about soulmates going on adventures and trying to save the day.
OKAY TV SHOWS DONE TIME FOR M O V I E S which I don’t have nearly as many recs for but uhh here goes
What We Do In The Shadows/ Shaun of the Dead
I’m lumping these two together bc my reasons for recommending them are largely the same, and I would call them tonally similar enough that if you like one you’ll probably like the other
Basic Summary (Shaun of The Dead): Uh-oh! London’s had a break out of some of that good ol’ zombieism. Shaun and friends decide to hunker down in a local bar, but they have to get there first. Will they survive? Will they fuck up some zom zoms? Who’s to say?
Basic Summary (What We Do In The Shadows): Some vampire roommates dick around. I think there’s technically, like, a plot, but it’s really just about some vampires Doin Their Thing. Vibin.
Shared elements with supernatural that you might Vibe with: This is kind of similar to the Community recommendation, in that supernatural had the opportunity to be one of those things that was both a parody of a genre but also just a really good example of the genre. WWDITS and SotD are both those things for vampire and zombly movies, respectively. Have the aesthetic and some of the themes of a horror but is not actually all that scary. Horror Comedy is a god tier genre and I don’t know why it’s not more widespread. Fun monsters/cast of characters in general, so at least one person in it is probably going to make you go “oh gender” ya know? With SotD you have the fantasy power trip that comes with like any piece of media that involves hunting monsters. With WWDITS I go “yep that’s how bisexuals dress” and I Will Not Clarify which character I’m talking about.
MINI REC ALERT: All of Taika Watiti’s filmography. Thor:Ragnarok is one of like 3 marvel movies that I consider genuinely fucking fantastic completely independent of the MCU and my own tendency to be like “hurr bdurr I love. Superheros”. For the one that is most tonally like Supernatural But Significantly Better and Written By Someone Competent I think I would say try out Hunt For The Wilderpeople. It’s got a reluctant curmudgeonly father figure and I KNOW some of you motherfuckers were so invested in spn when you were like 16 bc you had daddy issues. This is a callout post for my friend [REDACTED], who I should text to watch Hunt for the Wilderpeople, actually.
MINI REC ALERT X2!!!: Bram Stoker’s Dracula. I’ve never seen it but it has both Winona Ryder AND Keanu Reaves so like. Goth bi rights.
~~
Happy Death Day (and Happy Death Day 2 U)
happy death day was one of those movies that I saw the trailer, went “eh”, heard other people say it was great, watched, and went holy fuck this slaps. Not nearly as much of a slasher film as the trailers implied if im remembering the trailer correctly
Basic Summary: Our main character Tree keeps waking up on the day she was murdered. The day resets every time that she dies. That’s right, it’s a time loop storey babey!!!!!!!!!!!
Shared elements with supernatural that you might Vibe with: If you were anything like me you were foolishly lulled into supernatural for way longer than you should’ve been on the promise that the characters would idk like grow and change and become better and learn lessons and some of that would be through the power of receiving love and kindness. You know. Like how good writers would do it especially if their main characters are kind of dicks that really should make some changes. Well, Happy Death Day fucking delivers on that promise in SPADES. It’s about growth! It’s about change! It’s about making the active decision to become a better person and putting effort into doing so! There’s heavy themes of like grief and trauma and acknowledging them and facing them head on in order to move on and the negative consequences of refusing to do so and just trying avoid it until it goes away. There’s a romance that makes my dumb little self do the pleading face emoji. Tree is also one of the only good asshole with a heart of gold characters. I also think media is improved by having at least one character that is a Good Good Boy (note: Good Good Boy character does not have to be a man.) and Happy Death Day has Carter. Oh on that note: Tree Voice: I’ve only had character for (the same repeating over and over) a day but if anything happens to him I’ll kill everyone here and then myself. Also the movie is funny so like hell yeah.
that’s all I got for relevant movies right now
BOOK RECS
jk i’m illiterate. Everyone should feel free to go ahead and add their own suggestions for this section The best I can do is uhhhh I think y’all would probably like Mira Grant’s novels, particularly the Newsflesh stories, bc sibling dynamics. Also the book The Haunting of Hill House is really good. Ballad of Black Tom slaps? There’s of course the Good Omens novel that the show was based on. I’m about to recommend some podcasts after this section which will include to Welcome to Nightvale because of course it will and the tie in novels for that slap, especially It Devours!, and I’m pretty sure they work as stories even if you know nothing about the podcast. Also also I think you should read “The Long Way to A Small, Angry Planet” by Becky Chambers It’s not thematically similar to supernatural at all but it’s one of my all time favorite sci fi novels and only like four people have read it which is a goddamn TRAVESTY.
Anyway yeah that’s it that’s all there is. Onto the medium that is like books but I can fold laundry or cook while consuming their narratives.
PODCAST RECS
Okay so this is getting uhhh wicked long so I’m gonna limit myself to only three full blown recs and a
mini rec
Alice Isn’t Dead
Fuck me running this show is so good. Literally hands down my all time favorite (and scariest!) horror podcast. Mamma mia, that’s a good fuckin story. The Book version is also good and has fewer Weird events but some further character development so I recommend them both.
Basic Summary: After her wife Alice disappears mysteriously, Keisha takes up a job as a long haul trucker, traveling all across America in order to find her, but ends up finding so much. Pursued by a deadly creature she calls The Thistle Man, the stakes of her journey are raised.
Shared elements with supernatural that you might Vibe with: okay so I have a lost of bullet points of things that appealed to me specifically about supernatural and how no other shows covers all of them which sucks bc it means I basically Yearn for a show that’s supernatural but good. Alice isn’t Dead, however, hits the most of these bullet points AND is so fucking good. It has monster hunting. It has stopping a cataclysmic event BUT also discussion of the cyclical nature of events such as these and how the fight never truly ends but you can make some fucking progress nonetheless. It has a central gay romance that’s actually a central gay romance. It’s the ONLY show on this list that really hits that the weird and dark underside of americana vibe but specifically the americana of not like suburbs and shit but that eerie haunted feeling you get when you’re hours into a late night drive on open roads with no civilization around and an expansive sky and it just Seems like something should be watching you. Have you ever been out for a walk at midnight and encountered a deer and you looked into each other’s eyes and it felt like it was telling you a message that you couldn’t possibly hope to parse? Have you ever felt an incredible sense of deja vu eating in a restaurant you couldn’t have possibly been in before, because you’ve been to a thousand diners a thousand times just like one, and there’s an incredibly sense of homogeneity even though you’re 2000 miles away from anyone and anything that could possibly know you? Have you ever traveled to an area that seems to be stuck in a bubble of time, the only thing that shows any evidence of having aged past 2006 being yourself, and you wonder how your cell phone even works around here? THAT’S the spooky americana I’m fuckin talking about! Messed up road trips! Too much goddamn space! America is scary because it’s big and Filled With Things but also Not Enough Things! Fuck yeah!!!!! That time bubble fuckin EXISTS in Wyoming the most recent song on the radio I heard was fuckin Hey Soul Sister!
Also has a thing where like are there even good guys and bad guys in a conflict or is it all just one umbrella nightmare that you’re trying to stand against in anyway possible (u kno..like how the overarching structures of both heaven and hell were kinda fucked in spn? No spoilers but similar shit be happenin in Alice Isn’t Dead). Exploration of what makes someone into a monster, like how do you go down that path? Also this is the only show on this whole damn list that southern gothic music really suits it so points for that.

The Magnus Archives
You know I had to do it to ‘em.
Basic Summary: Jonathan Sims has just become the Head Archivist at the Magnus Institute, a “research” “facility” that looks into paranormal/esoteric/unexplained phenomena.
Tumblr media
John Mulaney Voice, Again: Nobody knows what the archivist is going to do next, least of all the archivist. He’s never been in an archives before, he’s just as confused as you are.
Shared elements with supernatural that you might Vibe with: Oh fuck this document is over 5k long I said I wasn’t gonna do this hhhhh so lipton lightning round: Slowburn Gay Romance but Actually Canon, Monster Hunting but Hey What Even Is A Monster Anyway, Acts Somewhat like a Loosely Connected Horror Anthology until it DOESNT, Little Things Build to Bigger Narrative, Characters Be Goin Through It (On God These People Need Therapy), Trying to Prevent/Fix The Apocalypse (X2!!!), Smug Asshole Big Bad,  Horror as a Metaphor For Various Shit, Basically if you thought that the Men of Letter concept slapped and you think it should’ve been the whole damn show including being Deeply British you would probably really fuckin like TMA. Also if ur like the ideal piece of media is a horror tragedy but also like it’s a wacky sitcom but also also fuck cops. U will like tma.

Shared elements with supernatural that you might Vibe with: Honestly, probably bc Nightvale and Alice are by the Same Dudes, a lot of these points are the same as Alice Isn’t Dead, but it’s less scawy and more funney. Also hits the “horror, but make it kind of a sitcom” vibes. Doesn’t have the same road trip vibes, but DOES capture the exact weirdness of South Western USA, so I’m still giving it “fucked up americana” credit. If you’ve never been to New Mexico ur like this is an exaggeration clearly no desert town is subject to like ACTUAL cosmic horror and unexplainable sights but I’m telling you New Mexico is just Like That. (I highly recommend visiting the land of enchantment if you ever get the oppurtunity it is a deeply odd and wonderfully unsettling experience.) Look man it’s gay it’s a horror comedy cecil has a wonderfully soothing voice and it hates capitalism so fucking much like oh my god so much what more could you want.
MINI REC ALERT: Wolf 359! I have nothing deep to say about this I just like it and my gut tells me that y’all would enjoy it too I know there isnt much for physical descriptions in the show but I know in my heart that the main character is so so pretty and so so stupid. I KNOW yall like some himbos that experience character growth.
Okay since It’s my party and I’ll speak if I want to rapid fire list of podcasts I just like and want more people to listen to even though I’m behind on like all of them shhhhh: The Penumbra Podcast, BomBARDed, Dungeons and Daddies, Stellar Firma, Wonderful!
SONG RECS
okay these aren’t like replacement recs or anything they’re just really good and I almost certainly would have put them on some sort of supernatural playlist in 2013 but I don’t, like, have a good playlist for them now so I’m subjecting y’all to them also they all have the youtube link for ease of access

Thoughts about Misha's video, 15x18 (the non reciprocal love confession and subsequent latam correction) and How the C*W* ended Supernatural
This my opinion after watching Misha's video. It's a bit long so bare with me, please.
So what if it was just a rogue translation? There's so many people who only know that version of the story and for them it will be the only one there is. I stopped watching spn in wb (I'm from Argentina) because I didn't like the translation (which is really funny now), but I think that saying this is my canon now is very valid. I was lucky enough to get to watch the show online when it aired but the truth is that am going to stick with the spanish Latin America version even if it was a lucky mistake.
(Also y'all really don't know how big it is that they made the decision to put "Te amo" instead of the platonical "Te quiero" and Dean saying "Y yo a ti, Cas". Spanish dubb in -Latin America at least I don't know about Spain- is usually very homophobic like as a rule, it's still very common to see translations turned platonic or less romantic just so it's not very gay. So the fact that they made the choice to say that is incredibly huge).
(TW: canon characters deaths; talk about suicidal tendencies -in character and the op; homophobia from network).
And the thing is that for Cas it's still a bury your gays ending whether Dean is canonically bisexual (which he is to me) or not. And we don't even need to talk about Destiel. It's also about Rowena (cutting a scene which confirmed her as bi) and Charlie (being the representation of the fandom at some extent and dying violently) and how they characters were treated. And how every female or poc characters was treated. The C*W* needs to be hold accountable for this things. They think they aren't homophobic because they have a white twenty something gay guy, and don't get me wrong they deserve representation too but it's the easiest way they can give it. They're mostly filling a quota, they don't care about them. And that's fucked up doesn't matter how you look at it.
Maybe we were wrong about an original alternative version of the love confession scene were Dean reciprocates, but we are not wrong about everything else. And I'm sure we are not wrong about the network queerbaiting us into watching the last two episodes after we got the confession in 15x18. They knew what it would mean to us and they chose to be ambiguous about Cas coming back just to keep us watching.
I understand if Misha thinks Cas ending meant so much (and I agree to some extent) but I won't be silent about how much I hate what they did to him. Cas declaration was really important and it did save the world, but I can't say that it was okay that they killed him afterwards and then we only got three mentions of his name and nothing else in the last two episodes. I would die saying that Castiel as the third lead in Supernatural deserved better than that and he deserved to be in the finale (don't even bring covid as an excuse because it's not).
Supernatural's ending sucked. If you liked it then good for you, you're very lucky but I still will boycott the shit out of it. I love Misha, Jensen and Jared and I respect them and their work (also the whole crew and cast) but that doesn't stop me from thinking the finale was disrespectful towards them but especially towards us. I don't even have to bring Destiel into this, the way Dean died it's just awful. He fought for the whole world and he didn't deserve that. Y'all really don't understand how much it affected me the fact that Dean, a character who has shown suicidal tendencies got killed the moment he was starting to enjoy life. I deal with my mental illness and my own awful thoughts and seen that just made me feel real hopelessness. That's not the way you want to portrait a mentally ill (and possibly queer) character unless you're a truly shitty network/writer and you don't really care about the characters and/or your audience.
I know I talk a lot about Dean and Cas but Sam's ending wasn't great either. Yeah, he got the withe fence ending with a wife (DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE FACELESS BACKGROUND WOMAN) and a kid, but he never got over his brother death and that's really just sad. Also one chapter he was desperate to have Eileen (his love interest through the whole season) back (15x18) and then we never hear from her again, no one even mentions her name.
They build the whole show around the idea that "Family doesn't end in blood", they have all this character growth from their leads and then it's just thrown away for supossedly shocking value and some weird idea that they should end it like they started it or how it originally was supposed to be (which literally just takes away the whole point of making the show). And they don't even mention family (besides the abusive father being in heaven, mary whom I don't particularly think is a good mother, jack and cas being mentioned once each, and bobby appearing for two minutes after like five seasons). So it just ends up being about Sam and Dean, or just Sam, and eventually his son Dean I guess. And then Sam and Dean again but now they're both dead and happy (because is great being dead apparently).
I'm going into heller mode now so if that's not your cup of tea then leave that's it for you, it's your lose.
As a queer closeted girl I've always found comfort in Cas and Dean's relationship and I tought that someday it would be their moment and it'd be okay for them to come out and then it would be okay for me too. Getting the semi canon when 15x18 aired meant so much but the truth is I still wanted more, I wanted Dean to be able to say it back because I love them both and they deserve so much love and Dean especially has always been a role model to me so I really wanted for him to get an actual happy ending and then... we didn't. But now there's this new version and truly I couldn't care lees if it's not in the original script because I got to hear it. I think it's sad how fucking desperate I am for representation from characters I relate to that I will take any crumbs i can get. Dean and Cas deserved so much better than what spn end gave them. And the truth is that I and we did too.
In conclusion: Dean is bi(sexual and lingual), he loves Castiel and his love is reciprocated. Also the ending is an ao3 fix-it fic, so yeah. That's it. I'm sorry for this ranting but I really need it to let all out. If someone is as frustrated as I am feel free to drop a message.
P.S. I really love the cast and the show, I literally wouldn't care that much about this if I didn't so i don't mean to sound hateful towards them. Just really hated the ending and the fact that I got queerbaited and robbed of so many (mostly gay) things.
P.S.2. Sorry for any grammar or spelling errors it's past 3 am and I'm not a native english speaker (self taught actually so there's probably a lot of those). Again really sorry about that, I hope I made myself understandable enough.

Color Commentator 1: Good evening, Bill, and welcome everyone to the final round in the 2020 Deathmatch Battle for Biggest Queer-bait Ending Ever! It has come down to H50 vs. SPN!
Color Commentator 2: Yes, Jane, these two fandoms have been teased and gaslit for years, and McDanno *does* have the advantage of first out of the gate, with the showrunners displaying complete fandom tone-deafness by forcing McRollins against the wishes of both their leads?
CC1: Well, it’s true that homophobia is strong on both networks, but based on hyper-het male programming, I too am giving CBS the edge here. That’s why I think Destiel is coming in as the underdog, since they are on a network that has been willing to have queer characters in their shows compared to CBS’ All cops/military/alpha-males-so-tough-they-won’t-even-touch-their-own-cocks-to-pee level of anti-gay programming.
CC2: And yet, you can’t discount the legacy of Texas when the CW is about to re-launch that state’s most famous heterosexual sheriff, so they won’t want their lead to show up with gay-cooties by proxy. Can the struggling network afford to piss off the Loan Star State and it’s hundreds of insecure male viewers? Those bros are worth far more than the show’s actual mostly queer, mostly female fanbase. Because let’s face it, no one really cares what ladies think.
CC1: Good point, Bill. And Scott and Alex did make the effort to release a post-season McDanno cuddle pic so at least the fans would know where they stood on their ‘ship and finale. Destiel fans are likely to be left with the “All Gays go to Superhell” character arc, the biggest queer-bait bitch slap to date, and then roll out an ever-apologizing Misha Collins to try and smooth things over.
CC2: Yes, Jane, but let’s not forget the Big, Straight, Dick Energy of an abusive motherfucker of a showrunner on CBS, so that keeps McDanno as strong contenders for the title. We are coming up on the designated hour, so let’s see which team of showrunners will win the coveted title of Queer-baiting Assholes for Life?
***SPN Final Airs****
CC1: Wow, Bill.
CC2: Yeah Jane. You just never expect homicidal clown vampires led buy some random chick from Season 1?
CC1: I thought for sure McDanno had the title in the bag, but then it turns out the CW is even worse at age-progressing their 40-something actors than CBS.
CC2: True. Supernatural clinched the win when they brought the car to heaven but not the gay angel that apparently Dean doesn’t give a shit about as long as he can drive his car around British Columbia.
CC1: And while we congratulate both shows on climbing to the highest apex that Queerbaiting has to offer, you can’t help but feel bad for the fans who wasted over a decade on each show.
CC2: It’s in the fic-writer’s hands now, Jane. Those beautiful saviors of shitty show-endings.
CC1: The true heroes of fandom everywhere, Bill. True heroes.
CC2: And maybe some day the fans will learn to stop watching homophobic programming for decades expecting a different result that never comes.
CC1: Well, Bill, I guess we need to pray for networks to hire more women and queer showrunners to write genre television.
CC2: Jane, you ignorant slut.

The Triffid of Hope and the Stop-Watch of Despair - 15x09 The Trap
Hey everone,
I’m just catching up British time, as usual, and getting down my initial thoughts before I jump in and see what you’ve all been up to.
The much-anticipated Purgatory prayer episode - here we go!
First off - Chuck is a lying liar who lies, and also, how bad was his vamp Winchester bros script?! We know it’s a script, because he asks Sam - “So, what d’ya think?” writer-style, after AU!Bobby executes Vamp!Sam. I thought Bobo did great work here, distinguishing (for us) between his own writing and Chuck’s sucky (ha ha) vamp-Chesters ending. And oh boy, does Bobo torch the “Butch and Sundance going out together in blaze of glory” SPN scenario, because it’s one of Chuck’s shitty versions. I think we can rest assured we’re not gonna get that!
Tumblr media
“All good things must come to an end,” Chuck says, holding up a scalpel in the Lucky (pink) Elephant (in the room, ahem Destiel) Casino. Bobo’s meta way of telling us that yes, of course, there is pain to be endured (by us) along the way, before our heroes get their freedom. Pain, because Supernatural, our favourite show, is ending.
I loved the double-structure of the episode, which balanced Sam and Eileen’s story with Dean and Cas’ story - past, present and future folded into one another; see-sawing between the twin axes of hope and despair.
The Triffid of Hope:
Tumblr media
Isn’t this shot (and its symbolism) great? Dean is framed between the Purgatory-Triffid and the awesome three-eyed skull of a dead Leviathan (the “third eye”, in Indian spiritual traditions, symbolising higher self-knowledge).
Leviathan dude: “There’s a blossom, that grows out of the soil when we die.”
Ah-ha - I knew all the death symbolism in Michael’s God-locking spell had to mean something. It just didn’t happen the way I thought it would (Cas dying in Purgatory).
Instead, the Leviathan blossom is a monster-corpse feeding flower - it grows from death. And so it is a perfect metaphor for hope, linked to all the old vegetation Gods (like Osiris, like the myth of Persephone) as well as to those heroic underworld journeys, of Gilgamesh and Orpheus and Inanna which @prairiedust and I were talking about previously in relation to Purgatory 2.0. Because, from death, springs new life (just as Spring follows Winter) and from an underworld journey comes deeper self-knowledge and psychic growth (a la Jung).
On a meta level, this is Bobo’s message to us too - yes the show has to “die”, but who knows what new and wondrous things will be born from its “corpse”.
Dean was previously the one, of the two Winchester brothers, who’d lost hope as result of the “Welcome to the End” revelations about Chuck’s active machinations in their lives. Dean was the one who couldn’t figure out what was real especially his relationship with Cas:
Dean: “I can’t figure out what’s God and what’s real, and it’s driving me crazy” (15x06 Golden Time).
He was the one who’d said (as emphasised in this week’s re-cap): “It’s God, Sam... How the Hell are we supposed to fight God?” (15x05 Proverbs 17:3).
But, in Purgatory 2.0, Dean got his hope back.
Why?
We already know why, from watching Dean pivot from suicidal in 13x05 Advanced Thanatology, to happy cowboy cosplay in 13x06 Tombstone, as soon as he got Cas back from death. Cas is intimately tied to Dean’s sense of faith and hope.
And in Purgatory 2.0, Dean finally finds (some of) his words and gets his relationship with Cas back on track, and in so doing, he recovers that faith and hope.
Hence that shot of him lying between death (the Leviathan skull) and the Triffid of Hope. Because Dean’s underworld journey to Purgatory 2.0 brings clarity to hs heart, just as it did last time. In Purgatory 1.0, “It felt pure”; in Purgatory 1.0, Dean’s mission was, “Where’s the angel?” In Purgatory 1.0, Dean let himself love Cas again (as I’ve said before) without guilt, despite the things Godstiel/ Levi!Cas had done, to Sam, and to the world.
In Purgatory 2.0, Dean (just like Sam, in the parallel story) is on the clock. Time is ticking - the rift Michael opened is finite:
Tumblr media
And so, in losing Cas for several frantic hours as the clock runs out, Dean finds clarity, just as he did before, and he prays (on his knees no less):
Tumblr media
Dean: “Cas, whereever you are, it’s not too late. I should have stopped you. You’re my best friend, but I just let you go...”
And Dean cries as he prays, and there is absolutely no doubt, in those tears, and in that apology, that he loves Cas (although the text continues to embrace ambiguity as to the nature of that love).
Imagine - Dean must also be reliving the last time they were in Purgatory together, when Cas actively chose to stay behind, which broke Dean’s heart so much he re-wrote his own memory. In the land of monsters once more, Dean is, finally, terrified it’s all going to happen again (because he pushed Cas away this time).
As a romantic love-story, of course, it’s still subtext. The glass-closet still structures the narrative. We still get the plausible deniability “bromance” of; “Cas, you’re my best friend.”
And you know, it’s totally OK to feel disappointed, heart-sore, stricken or enraged about that. Nothing throws the heteronormativity of our world more into relief than watching Sam have a beautiful and tender kiss with Eileen (and I totally buy and love their relationship) when their love-story has had a tenth of the back-story and build-up that exists between Dean and Cas, whilst Dean and Cas get a hug (albeit a clearly very emotional one):
Tumblr media
I think “queerbaiting” is, partly, a receiver-effect. Meaning, it’s partly subjective. So, some people may feel “queer-baited” by the show and others may not. It’s certainly perfectly legitimate to feel the pain of the closet, of almost-but-not-quite representation (and many queer fans have left the show over the years for that reason). The definition of “queerbaiting” however, is complex (and needs its own post).
For myself, I absolutely do feel the pain of the closet, but I don’t feel a sense of “bad faith” from the writers’ room (and I used to). I certainly trust in Bobo, whose first episode was that paean to break-up angst, 9x06 Heaven Can’t Wait, to be telling Dean and Cas’ love-story as truly, madly and deeply as he can, within the constraints imposed by TPTB (the fact that also happens to suit TPTB is another level we won’t get into here).
Because isn’t this the face of a man who had something else to say, when Cas cut him off with, “You don’t have to say it - I heard your prayer” ????
Tumblr media
The Stop-Watch of Despair:
Tumblr media
Chucks’ mission in 15x09 is to crush Sam’s hope, even as Dean is re-gaining his own hope in Purgatory.
Chuck does that in two ways. First, he makes Sam and Eileen doubt how much of their love story is real, as he tells them he nudged Eileen’s resurrection along and then used her (unwittingly) to spy on the Bunker.
When Eileen leaves Sam, at the end of the episode, she says: “After what happened, I don’t know what’s real anymore..”
Obviously, that is paralleled to Dean’s previous doubt about his relationship with Cas, which Cas answered expllicity in 15x02 Raising Hell (although Dean couldn’t take it in at the time):
Dean: “Nothing about our lives is real. Everything that we've lost, everything that we are is because of Chuck. So maybe you can stick your head back in the sand, maybe you can pretend that we actually had a choice. I can't.”
Castiel: “Dean. You asked, "What about all of this is real?" We are.”
Sam plays Cas’ part (but it’s his own part too - I don’t want to reduce Sam and Eileen to mere parallels for Dean and Cas - their story is their own) when he kisses Eileen and says, “I know that was real,” (so, he’s able to hold onto a little hope, after all - go Sam!):
Tumblr media
Second, Chuck makes Sam doubt the possibility of a happy ending, for the Winchesters, for the people they love, and, importantly, for the world. If they succeed in locking Chuck away, Chuck claims, Sam and Dean will die as vampires, and monsters will overrun the earth:
Tumblr media
We can see here, that Metatron  was right, in 11x20 Don’t Call Me Shurley, when he said to Chuck, of humanity: “They are your greatest creation because they're better than you are.”
Because Chuck manages to get to Sam, psychologically, only because Sam cares, with all his heart, about the fate of the world and all the people in it.
This is where the time-construction of the episode gets clever. Because, the future-Dean, who Sam sees, has lost hope again. And why? This is the face of a man who has locked Mark-of-Cain crazed Castiel in a Ma’lak box (and don’t forget S14 established the Ma’lak box as a closet metaphor):
Tumblr media
And oh damn, we see Cas take on the Mark as part of the God-trapping spell in the “Trifffid of Hope” portion of the story. Does he still have it now, even though Chuck destroyed the spell?
Chuck shows Sam an (apparent) future in which the brother who raised him, has abandoned all hope, which is the true definition of Hell (”Abandon all hope, ye who enter here” - Dante’s Inferno) and that is the other psychological lever Chuck uses to get Sam to despair. His faith in Eileen is shaken, and his faith in Dean is shaken.
Chuck clearly admires Sam. He almost treats him as a worthy antagonist. He refers to him as “Promethean” and “heroic”, and, in a sense, perhaps he genuinely means it. But, of course, it’s also part of his ploy to destroy Sam’s hope. Prometheus, after all, got his liver eaten out by eagles on the regular, sent by the chief God of Olympus himself, Zeus (aka Chuck) for his pains.
Chuck (to Sam): “You still think you’re the hero of this story. You still think you can win.”
And Chuck succeeds (temporarily) in destroying Sam’s hope, by making him doubt the reality of his love with Eileen, and by making him doubt that his big brother will have the hope necessary to “Carry on my wayward sons,” in the future (all the more believable because Sam has, in fact, seen Dean lose hope before when he’s lost Cas).
But what changes, monumentally, at the end of the episode, is that Dean doesn’t blame Sam. He just says, “That’s good enough for me,” about Sam’s assertion he believed in the Chuck-in-the-Cage future Chuck showed him, and, “We’ll find another way.”
Dean brought the Leviathan blossom of hope back from Purgatory, and with it, deeper self-knowledge about how he has taken his feelings of helplessness out, as anger, against the people he loves best (Sam and Cas). This time, he doesn’t do that. For Team Free Will, once all together again, The Triffid of Hope wins out over The Stopwatch of Doom.
Just as it’s right, on a psychological level, that locking Chuck in a cage isn’t a viable solution - because external cages are metaphors for the prisons of the mind. Team Free Will’s heroic and metaphysical journey through the realms of the God-machine is also a journey towards emotional wholeness, and freedom from the psychological prisons of their past.
And so, to conclude, this episode (my favourite of Bobo’s since his first) is filled with love.... and love.
The Winchester brothers’ love for one another, we see, undoubtedly, in Sam’s narrative. But that’s also interesting, because again, Chuck misses Cas out of the story - and so ends up with a bros-only Butch and Sundance ending. And Bobo emphasises Chuck’s version is stuck in “toxic co-dependency” - because it’s the two of them, as Vampchesters, as monsters, going out together against the world - specifically against even their own friends, Bobby and Jodie. Now there’s a potent metaphor. By contrast, a healthy Sam and Dean relationship allows the loving presence of others.
And there we have it -  the.. and love (precisely, the loving presence of others) in the love between Sam and Eileen (whose faith in that love, Chuck has deliberately shaken, for now) paralleled to the love between Dean and Cas (whose faith has been restored in Purgatory, for now).
Bobo clearly shows us that hope is the key to defeating Chuck, because it is only when Sam loses hope that Chuck is free of the God-wound.
And love is hope, because to love is to be hopeful - to be hopeful that you will be loved back, that love will endure, that a future with your loved ones is possible and so, worth fighting for.
Supernatural has always, always (as we all well know) been about the “power of love” (despite Dean’s doubt in 5x18 Point of No Return).
In the end both the Triffid of Hope and the Stop-Watch of God-Time will converge, ending God-Time and granting true freedom for Chuck’s “characters”.

What it’s like being a cynical Destiel clown.
Spoilers ahead for SPN Season 15 Episode 18
I’ve been through the emotional ringer this last week, and don’t even get me started on the producers’ decision to air Cas’s death episode the week of the election, but I digress.
Let me give you some backstory, I have been seeking out LGBTQ+ content in film and television since I was 12. So, this started in the mid 90s, where a majority of content was either castrated to make it palatable for straight viewers, toxic character stereotypes, and most of the time ended in the kill/bury your gays trope. Look at the oscars, the only time an actor wins for portraying a gay/bi/trans character is when said character dies.
Anyway, this has meant I have had to thrive and survive on subtext. With the exception of Gallavich, none of the pairings I’ve shipped have ever become canon, so I’ve always been content to just read into the subtext and build from there. And there’s a long history of subtext in media (see this video here: https://youtu.be/nwrTU-FnGlw)
youtube
Anyway, prior to Misha’s confirmation, I could feel and see the canonization of Destiel in that beautiful moment, albeit one-sided, but I could also see it’s ambiguity. And that’s because the writers have made it abundantly clear over the years that destiel does not exist.
From shooting fans down in panels or on social media, even to the point of mockery and blocking. Adamant stances that destiel doesn’t exist. Remember the last time Cas said those three little words? The destiel fandom collectively lost their shit, while the non destiel fans and the writers shot us down. We were delusional, we were reading too much into things.
It’s why, despite the supreme joy I feel at this confession, at this canon romantic love Castiel has for Dean, I’m wary AF. I don’t trust the writers to not completely ignore the confession in the final two episodes, and knowing that Misha isn’t slated for the final two episodes, the lack of acknowledgement and/or reciprocity will only exacerbate the problematic approach to making this ship canon.
Yes, technically they won’t go down as the longest queerbaiting show in television history now (and don’t think I’m not grateful to Bobo for making that happen, and I’m so fucking glad he was the one to give it to us), but now, knowing the projected ending, that means they pulled out the bury/kill your gays trope, and that’s a problem.
What message does that send to young queer kids? Hell, even to adults who struggle with their sexuality? For those who aren’t aware, I’m in grad school, getting my MFA in creative writing, and I am constantly addressing the severe lack of representation and healthy representation in mainstream media. As a queer person, I’m sick and fucking tired of lgbtq+ characters being side lined or worse, and let’s be real here, Supernatural has a tendency to kill off female, queer, and/or BIPOC characters. They’ve gotten away with it because, technically, all the characters on this show have died at least once or more.
This is why I’m conflicted, Destiel became canon at the expense of the queer viewers, but I’m still happy it became canon.
But shouldn’t I just be happy they addressed it at all? I mean, you’re not wrong. For the fans who see the significance of this, after years and years of being told we were crazy, we were reading too much into things, this is a form of validation and it’s “greedy” to expect anything more.
I don’t expect more for my personal preference, I don’t expect more just because I want to see a canon kiss or reciprocity (although I wouldn’t say no to that), I expect more because us queer viewers should be more than a statistic or ratings grab.
Maybe I got spoiled by Dan Levy, and seeing a world where queer representation isn’t just there, but embraced, loved, handled with care and shown that homophobia no longer has a place.
If you’re psyched destiel went canon, I get it. You want to bask in your happiness, enjoy this moment, and may I suggest you subscribe to @angeldoveyt’s YouTube channel for even more breathtaking content.
If you’re pissed that the show didn’t make it more blatant and perpetuated toxic tropes, I get that too. It’s problematic and after the year we had, seems kind of shitty. And in that case, may I suggest you watch Schitt’s Creek if you haven’t already.
If you’re like me, and have whiplash from feeling both of these emotions, shit, I have no recommendations other than, let’s stop turning on each other. Those of us who are mad are not trying to ruin it for the rest of you. Those of us who are excited aren’t simply ignoring the problematic implementation of canon destiel.
However this went down, someone was going to be mad, because for some reason, this show made us care. Care about the actors, care about these fictional characters, care about each other.
As Cas said, maybe it isn’t in the having, but in being, in just saying it. Destiel is canon, whether or not you liked how it went down, and that’s not nothing.

I just need to say that any "queerbaiting" people feel SPN is doing...... is literally all M*sha C*llins.
He is literally the SOLE queerbaiter.
He is the one that lies to fans and says that D*stiel is real, getting their hopes up (read: Q U E E R B A I T I N G), and prompts questions about that shitty ass ship. For attention. He feels it keeps him relevant when I'm sure he knows his character has nothing else going for him.
He is literally queerbaiting EVERYONE. The show isn't doing it. HE is.
The show has been about one thing and one thing only for 15 years: the two brothers. SPN started out with the two brothers, and it will end with the two brothers. The ONLY two main characters are Dean and Sam. C*stiel started out and will always be just a supporting character.
*Note that the useless angel is NOT in every episode since he made his appearance, and he's STILL not in every episode even of the final season. Much like Crowley had in the end (sad to say because I LIKED Crowley), C*s overstayed his welcome and exhausted his usefulness.
D*stiel will never be real. The show will end with Dean and Sam, and hopefully C*stiel will be dragged to The Empty with no hope of ever coming back so the brothers can get back to what they've always done: saving people, hunting things.
Also, to note: Dean Winchester is straight. That ship will never be canon. Nothing has ever alluded in 15 years to Dean being bisexual; not his clothes, his pie choice, his favorite TV show character. He flirts to get shit done, but he's only ever been sexually and romantically involved with women.
Dean says so himself:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Get over it.
Have some respect for his sexuality. He blatantly says it. And Jensen also says it. As well as the original creator and multiple people from the crew. Jensen knows the character he's played for 15 years quite a bit more than any of you watching from your couch, talking shit about Jared and crying into your Cheetos because M*sha queerbaited you and you fell for it. Multiple times. I have no sympathy. I can't wait to see how crushed you D*stiel shippers will be when you realize the show ended and your ship was never endgame.

Get to know the blogger: Edition Supernatural
21 SPN Questions Tagged by @alexa-alcantara
1. When did you start watching Supernatural?
Way back in the day!! 2005. Though can’t remember the month. To be fair it was 14 years ago.
2. Who is your favorite in TFW?
Really the TFW shit needs to die. It was said ONCE in S5 by Dean and he was being sarcastic. Also I believe alot of Destiel/Castiel twats use it as a way to shoe horn in Castiel and put him on the same level as Sam and Dean.
So yeah the TFW shit can go away. But back to the question. I love Dean but its always been Sam for me. Loved him since the pilot.
3. Who is your least favorite in TFW?
Castiel, obviously. I used to like him back in S4/S5 when he was an actual character and Misha was actual trying to act. But now he is a waste of screen time and the more they force him into eps and how important he is to Sam and Dean. The more forced and fake it becomes.
5. Who is your favorite character (not including TFW)?
Again with the TFW shit? Lol I think a Destiel/Minion did these questions.
The Impala she is the REAL 3rd lead after all and unlike some doesn’t let the boys down or hurt them. =3
6. Who is your favorite woman in Supernatural?
Ruby 1 and 2. I also like Rowena, Eileen, Ellen, Sarah, Meg 1.
7. John or Mary?
John every day of the week. Mary is awful, she is never around when needed, she will jump on any free dick just to be away from her sons. Samantha can’t act which plus that and the bad writing makes Mary come off as an uncaring dead eye bitch.
Also not a fan of being told how amazing characters are (the best hunter in the world? OK Jan.) but when it comes to actual showing it, they are useless/need saved.
Bringing Mary back was the biggest mistake the show ever did.
8. What were your first opinions of Sam, Dean, Cas, and Jack?
Sam: (from 1x01) Oh he is so good looking and adorable and so smart.
Dean: ( 1x01) Hot and funny with a cool car.
Cas: (4x02 I think) I thought he was cool. But from S6 to now I just hate him more and more. He is useless, a shitty friend and just is there to get beat up or fuck up and get away with it.....again.
Jack:  I HATED the whole Lucifer his a sprog idea back in S12, as its been done to death and done so much better. After seeing Jack in S13, I was shocked how quickly I liked him. I still do enjoy his character, I just think he gets a bit too much story lines though.
9. What’s your favorite season?
S1 and S2 will always be my fav but since I have to pick one it would be S2. I love powers!Sam and the special children and YED.
10. What’s your least favorite season?
The later seasons can’t hold a candle to S1 and S2 but S10 is the worst by far. Demon!Dean and Mark of lame Dean was just Dean being an asshole but 100%. And that for a whole season was not fun to watch. There was also too many side characters. Even Sam’s hair looked shit.
11. Opinions on Destiel?
Why is there a Destiel question on this? We are talking about the actual show not fake ships. Anyway its a awful ship that as no moments nor is it romantic. When you have to use one character beating the shit out of another character as proof of love and your ship then thats your first clue you have an issue and your ship is fanon.
12. Do you believe Supernatural queerbaits?
Well this confirms a Destiel fan and Minion did this.
No Supernatural does not queer bait. There might be some fan-service here and there but thats it. Destiel fans not getting their way and then crying about it. Isn’t queer baiting. Just entitled shippers being assholes.
13. Seasons 1-7 or 8-14?
Season 1-7, don’t even need to think about it.
14. Favorite villain (plot wise)?
Yellow Eyes, Azazel. The first and best villain
15. Do you think they should end the Lucifer plot line?
YEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!
Lucifer is so fucking done and so is Nick. They need to start dropping the dead weight from the show.
16. Who do you think has gone through more trauma (Sam, Dean, or Cas)?
Both Sam and Dean have been threw Hell and back. I will say I think Sam as gone though more trauma though.
As for Castiel - Don’t care. He was watching TV while Lucifer was using his ugly body then act’s like he can’t bear to be around Nick. He can fuck off.
17. What’s your favorite Supernatural episode?
The pilot and Mystery spot. There are more but dont wanna list them all. XD
18. Do you like case episodes?
Of course!!! Anyone that calls them fillers are morons. MOTW eps are great, we need more of them and less side character drama I don’t care about.
19. Who do you relate most to in TFW?
TFW again? Oh boy.
Sam Winchester.
20. Why do you like Supernatural?
I love horror and love hot guys so win win. lol and its nice to get a show that isn’t about a couple of teenagers breaking up and getting back together or drama shit or a boring police show.
To have a show be about the love of two brothers and no sappy boring love interesting. Fighting monsters and doing anything for each other is a breath of fresh air.
21. If you could bring back one character and kill off another who would they be?
I would kill Castiel, Charlie-sue 2.0, Mary, Nick, all the other angels, Micheal, Garth.
I would bring no one back. This show as enough old dead characters no one asked for coming back.
Tagging no one

1) Hey Saz, this is the person from Tink's long-ass 5-parter ask. This is going to be even longer. I'm on anon because of shyness above all things but I am willing to message you off anon if you want me to do so! I saw what you wrote about that ask and I agree.... to the most point. All the 'characteristics' of Destiel that differenciate it from other ships that you listed were actually applicable to some the ships I was talking about, especially Johnlock. -->
--> 2)The other ships, yes, you may be right, but for Johnlock I felt even more wronged intellectually when it crashed to the ground than I think I'll feel if the same thing happens to Destiel. I'm going to sound like a Johnlock shipping troll, but I'm not, I ran away from the mess of a fandom it became post-season 4. So bear with me. I really can't explain what my experience was at the time if you aren't familiar with tjlc and what the pre-season 4 sherlock fandom was like. -->
-->3)But let me assure you that it was extremely alike the spn/destiel fandom right now. I want to point out the similarities of the fandom and the ship but that would basically mean me explaining why Johnlock should have been canon, and I don't think you are here for that. So let me just point out a few things. By the end of the honest-to-god fanfic-y 3rd season, the GA were taking notice of it as well, to the point where, yes, the show is being called the worst queerbait ever even to this day.
--> 4)It frankly deserves it. And it was 2017.... we thought it was due fucking time. Guess it wasn't. When looking ay bibro blogs I can't help but be reminded of Johnlock antis. At least when that was a thing, you know, because you can't be an anti of something when it turns out you were right. We made fun of them, because how the fuck can you see jealousy at weddings, literally killing for the other the day they meet, -->
--> 5) having something secret to say that they can't bring themselves to say even after the other's death, being broken over the other's death TWO YEARS LATER AND ON THE DAY YOU FUCKING PROPOSE TO YOUR GF, prefering the other over your string of girlfriends, counting the texts a woman sent the other, COMING BACK TO LIFE AFTER LITERALLY FLATLINING BECAUSE THE OTHER IS IN DANGER, and, you know, constantly making both of them have shitty relationships and be unsatisfied romantically.... -->
.... and read it all as platonic? The show literally falls apart if you take away Johnlock... sounds familiar. You know, one of the writers for Sherlock is gay. So I believed in him, after all gay writers won't queerbait, how could they? (turns out they could.)......But I digress. I won't blame you if you just glossed over what I ranted above. Actually some of the reasons I'm still holding out hope for Destiel is 1) How atrocious the last season of Sherlock was, worst than Supernatral at its worst. 2) The sense that everything is coming full circle in this season(which we didn't get, btw, in even the last season of Sherlock). 3) Misha fucking Collins. And you know, although i heatedly ranted above in response to your response, I did it only because I wanted to justify what I spent near three years on. I didn't want to leave you thinking that a ship like this didn't exist before, because in my opinion, it did. So sorry. I was being spiteful.About the 'Greatest Love Stoty Ever Told', which was in fact the big fandom tagline for Johnlock as well....... I think I'll wait and see. If it is endgame, then I agree that it really is the greatest love story ever told. And I also agree that the show seems to be going that way
Hi Nonny,
So this is all in relation to this post and I think that the easiest way to answer this is to say to anyone still doubting, including nonny, to just read the various replies and reblogs on that post, because the answers are perfect.
Also nonny I know we have spoken in private already and you said that you were feeling better after reading the responses on that post as well so I won’t go into too much depth here, but I still wanted to post your asks in case there are still people out there feeling the way you do.
This is going to be my opinion on the matter, which, of course, is just that. There are many many people out there who were greatly upset by Sherlock and I feel for you all. Its not fair what happened and what that show put you through. Your feelings and your views on the matter are 100% valid and real and nothing that I say here is trying to contradict that. You saw a love story between those characters. That interpretation, like any interpretation of a text, is real and never let anyone say you were wrong. Johnlock still exists within the text of that show, just because it didn’t end with a kiss or a love confession doesn’t mean that it isn’t a valid reading.
I started watching Sherlock before I ever got into Supernatural. When it came out in 2010 I LOVED it. My film student lizard brain picked up on the Johnlock subtext pretty much straight away and aside from some very brief thoughts of “ooh that would be a different spin on it” I didn’t pay much more attention. I continued to watch Sherlock second season in 2012 and again I noticed the subtext, but at this point recognised that it was all done for humorous purposes. I never thought they would go there. I didn’t “ship” it because I didn’t even know what “shipping” was at the time let alone thought John and Sherlock were more than friends who happen to get mistaken for a couple. That was the gag. It was what made my very typically straight male young brother giggle like an idiot because apparently being mistaken for gay was funny. (It’s not. I hate those jokes. They don’t work outside a Carry On film and I don’t even like Carry On films).
When season 3 came out in Jan 2014 I side eyed the series because I had had enough of the gay jokes. I thought it was getting weird and could see that there was a beautiful bond between the characters that imo was being twisted for cheap laughs. I pondered on whether this Sherlock was in fact in the closet, Were they trying to tell us that he was secretly gay? I didn’t get it because it was never clear enough to me that this was the case and yet they continued to play around with the concept whilst the character of John is off with his fiance. My brother continued to find the whole thing hilarious. It was never taken seriously. My musings on Sherlocks sexuality were pushed aside because it seemed clear to me that the writers were not taking it seriously.
Then over the summer of 2014 I binge watched 9 seasons of SPN. I struggled with seasons 1 and 2, made it through 3, watched 4 and fell in love with an Angel of the Lord. It took me 10 episodes to figure out Cas was gay. It took me a further 2 seasons of umming and ahhing in my own head to conclude that yes,  Dean was definitely Bisexual. It took until 6x20 to realise that this was legit something in the text and not my imagination. It took until season 8 for me to believe 100% that they were going there. (I wavered a bit on that belief in seasons 9 and 10 but season 11 pulled me back and I haven’t looked back since.)
In the early seasons, 4, 5 and 6, I recognised the patterns used between Dean and Cas were the same used in Sherlock. I re-watched Sherlock at some point in 2015 and remember thinking damn yeah they really were shoving the subtext in our faces a bit. But I still didn’t ship it, even though I was 100% shipping destiel at that point. I again pondered Sherlock’s sexuality, had a brief thought of “I’d like to see that take on the story” but again discarded any thought that it would actually be textual in a show that imo seemed adamant in keeping it all about the humour. If they weren’t going to take this characters sexuality seriously, then the story was never going to seriously be explored.
See if Destiel had always remained the way it was in seasons 4, 5 and 6, then I wouldn’t have any belief that it was going canon. I would probably still ship it (the sexual tension in season 4 was insane) but the idea that it would go canon would have always been a pipe dream. So many shows use the queer subtext as a source of humour. So many shows tease their characters as queer and use homoeroticism for titillation. It delights my idiot brother to no end. I hate it. I think it desperately needs to stop. I have never ever watched an episode of Sherlock and thought that it was doing anything other than just that. (I didn’t particularly like the 4th season though because nothing made any bloody sense and I think they kind of butchered the characterisations - I did say this would all be my opinion though so please don’t take offence).
You say that the show falls apart if you take away the romantic love story and make it platonic. I guess if I was to watch it again I could try to consider that reading, but my own experience watching seasons 1-3 is certainly not from a romantic view point and it all made sense to me. Season 4 didn’t make sense at all, and by the time that was on I was deep in destiel fandom and frequently writing meta, so I DID see the romantic reading in the text and yet still didn’t understand the story. (Again, I stress this is my opinion and is in no way trying to invalidate your own). However, with Destiel, the last three and a bit seasons narratively don’t work without it. I have tried to watch them and ignore every romantic moment, or hint at a romantic love between them, and in doing so, it confuses the fucking plot. I need to sit down and catalogue all the ways seasons 10 to 13 don’t work without destiel to evidence this but it would be a pretty epic job because there are ALOT.
I understand that you feel that Johnlock and Destiel are similar ships, but my opinion is that they drastically diverted course from each other when SPN went into its eighth season. Since then, there has been nothing quite like destiel in terms of build up and story structure - unless you start comparing it to the straight ships.
Where we are right now, destiel is deeply ingrained into the narrative of the show, and it is never used as a gag. It is never poked fun of in a way that reduces Dean and Cas’s relationship. Something that I believe Sherlock did right up until its last episode. I also 100% believe that the SPN creators and cast have a much greater respect and love for their fans than the Sherlock writers and cast ever did. (I’m not much of a fan of Bendydick Cucumberpatch and I have never been comfortable with Steve Moffat... dunno why the guy just gives me the creeps (then again so does Bob Singer)). They have been so positive towards Destiel recently that I am constantly stunned whenever new media or PR comes out. I am also of the belief that someone as wonderful as Misha Collins who is a champion for the LGBT community and cares deeply about making the world a better place would never ever involve himself in something that if it didn’t happen, would be considered the biggest queerbait in TV history. Breaking the hearts and severely angering millions of fans all over the world. Misha is a very smart man. He knows exactly how much this means to us and what it will do to us if it doesn’t happen. He doesn’t exactly look worried though. He doesn’t ever look like he is guilty over encouraging this ship? He looks like a fucker who knows whats up and can’t wait til we finally get to be in on the joke so he can tweet about it 24/7.
If destiel doesn’t happen, then Misha, of all people.... well... I’d have to rethink my entire opinion of him... the idea is so unfathomable for me, so impossible, it hurts my head to even consider. Did you ever feel this way about BC or Martin Freeman?
I just can’t believe that the people behind SPN would do that to us, but the people behind Sherlock? Well it didn’t exactly surprise me when it didn’t go canon. The BBC isn’t exactly known for being progressive. It’s known for playing it safe. If Sherlock was on Channel 4 I reckon they would have gone there. The Channel 4 execs probably would have encouraged it from the start. They would have considered it ‘edgy’.
I know that the CW isn’t exactly the most progressive network either, but its a young network, with a younger demo compared to the grumpy old pensioners who sit and watch BBC every night and complain that their tax payer money shouldn’t be going towards anything other than gardening shows and Eastenders. Soooo I think that has something to do with it too. The CW has a greater chance of pulling something like this off.
I’m so so sorry that Sherlock burned you. But don’t give up hope on destiel just yet, the factors are all currently in our favour. No two ships are alike, and in my opinion, Destiel is the motherfucking Symphony of the Seas compared to all others. It’s bigger, better, and hopefully, due for launch in Spring 2018.

I was looking for something to watch when I came home Monday night and saw Wynonna Earp on SyFy On Demand. But they only had season 2. I watched the first episode and was COMPLETELY confused, as I would have expected, but what I could figure out, it looked like an interesting show.
I went to google and saw an article comparing it to Buffy and was intrigue, THEN I saw another article and was disgusted.
7 Reasons Why Wynonna Earp is Doing Everything Supernatural did Wrong, Right
NO, the title just made me roll my eyes, the article itself was nasty.
Queer-baiting is not the same as queerness
Hmm, right from the beginning the author stresses that she is a queer female jilted Supernatural fan. But only certain SHIPPERS cry that.
Yep, she goes there and BEYOND:
Supernatural is known for its brutal queerbaiting. On the one hand, I’m a sucker and the relentless hints and gesturing that Dean is bisexual and that Cas is in love with him have kept me coming back season after season. I am without a doubt part of that audience being baited not only because I’m shipping Dean/Cas (Destiel) but also because I desperately want to see more bisexual representation on TV. Wynonna Earp, on the other hand, was from the get-go making sure you know some of its characters are queer. They aren’t implying it, they aren’t teasing it, they are showing it, they are confirming it.
Tumblr media
But wait it gets better (or worse depending on your view point).
People of colour can be love interests
I think this one is pretty self-explanatory. People of colour on Supernatural are few and far between and treated poorly. This post about race and Supernatural had high hopes for two POC characters who had been introduced around the time it was being written – they are now both dead. – they are now both dead. Dean’s first love interest was actually a woman of color who seemed perfect for him but she disappeared after a single episode never to return.
Oh NOW they want to talk about Cassie as someone other than FORESHADOWING OF CASTIEL.
You know for somebody who calls herself a fan of the show...
I have a love-hate relationship with Supernatural after sticking with it for all 241-ish episodes (so far) and spending way more on Supernatural merchandise than I would like to admit. I love Supernatural’s characters and I love the show it could be, but I hate the show it often is and I hate the show that it might become
...she has NO idea what the show is about.
A consistent location means a better cast of characters
Don’t get me wrong, I love a good road trip. Supernatural’s road trip model is amazing because we get to see a ton of different landscapes, monsters, motels, and people but it just doesn’t work in the long term. I can’t even count the times Supernatural has had a “monster of the week” episode and introduced really incredible characters (recent episode “The Chitters” is a great example of this) only to have those characters either die or walk away never to be seen again
NO fucking idea what the show is about.
Women don’t have to die constantly
Are you a female character on Supernatural? Surprise you’re dead! There have been a few exceptions to this rule (Donna, Jody and her daughters, Rowena) but most female characters either never show up again or die, and every female love interest for the boys has died or disappeared. In a show about monsters, people are going to die, women are going to die. The show has very few female characters, although the few it has had are very, very cool – until they DIE. There is a trend in TV, and this is exemplified in Supernatural, to kill off your female characters, especially your queer female characters in order to perpetuate the story of your (usually male) protagonists. Recently a fan favorite female character died on Supernatural and for a short period of time, I swore I would never watch another episode again. The problem wasn’t that she just died, it was that she was “fridged”. If you haven’t heard this term before it refers to the “woman in the refrigerator” trope, in which female characters are killed in order to further the male character’s story. The deaths of the women of Supernatural are not about the female characters, they are about the motivating the male characters to revenge.
Oh is somebody still sad about this?
Tumblr media
TOUGH TITTY.
Jody and her daughters?
Tumblr media
Yes, this moron has no idea WHY we curse out Kripke for his lack of balls after the writers’ strike.
It gets good right away
On the rare occasion that I’m trying to convince people to watch Supernatural I usually have to tell them to bear with it through the first two seasons (which is a LOT of episodes) while it gets its legs. When they get into it then we can share frustrations about how Supernatural gets REALLY good and then suddenly gets really bad countless times throughout its run. I don’t have the same baggage when I recommend Wynonna Earp to a friend. I cared about all the characters immediately, I liked it right from the credits and I didn’t suffer any heartbreaking disappointments.
Oh really? The first three seasons of SPN are THE best of the show, there is NOTHING to bear with.
Great characters? I’ll take Bobby, Ellen and Jo over blondie, and Charlie Sue. Not even going to mention the train wreck of Lucifer’s return and StaleCass.
Gets really good? translation, CASTIEL is in the house. **flips Kripke the bird**
But this moron does KNOW what the show is about, she just wants to ignore it:
Both shows are about two siblings (one rough and tumble, one sweet and studious) who have been pulled apart by circumstance after their shitty and violent childhoods. Both shows are about the identities the siblings have been forced to inherit because of their family legacy as monster hunters
TWO SIBLINGS.
The rest of this whining means nothing. In case you are interested, the article is HERE.
Needless to say, I’m not interested in the show after reading this. Sorry.

Re: Destiel. I loathe fans who spam on Twitter, but I think most care about Cas but esp. Misha. I see a lot of support of him so that makes most Destiel fans ok in my book. They gloss over the treatment of Cas but maybe they get more entertainment than bitterness out of spn so I can't fault them lol U know what pisses me off? Tptb. Surprise right?? I just saw the qotd of filming on twitter and I'm like really? They can bait the shippers all day and night long but the moment people bite and 1/2
2/2 ask questions or talk about it they’re crazies, disrespectful and destiel doesn’t exist. Yeah… Can’t wait for the unspoken words of Dean… They’re probably gonna be about mary, crowley, the pie he didn’t eat or a motw from 3 seasons ago.. the most Cas will get is prob. a “u should have followed us, ur fearless leaders”. And then D/C fans will still be the delusional ones. This is more queerbaiting than every single stupid dirty joke Misha has made on Destiel in 9 years combined. Fuckers.
Under the cut, for long reply
Hello anon! Well yes, tptb are pure bs. But they have been doing it since day one. Spn queerbaiting is nothing new. Heck I think I this point there must be serious studies about it. At the beginning was meh, we knew they were doing it, some fans thought that deancas were endgame (some still do), and they let them do it. Of course they have been thousands of complainings about it, but the truth is that the majority of the fans, as I always say it, eat their crumbs. Spn wouldn’t be on his 13th season without his rabid fandom. A fandom that complains (included myself) about anything and everything, but at the end sit their asses to continue watching. But I have to stop watching spn because, gods because so many reasons, but above all the writing, the characterization was really a downer for me. The show was only giving me pain, I should enjoy a show, not dread it. I’m still holding on Cas because I love him and I love Misha and his acting. But if not for that it would`ve been sayonara ages ago. They bait the shippers, but the shippers take the bait, made 2000 slo mo gifs about it, 234 metas, then eat it, and say: yes more please! with a smile. Yes tptb are assholes, but who let them? If a fucking mixtape was more important that, Idk, Cas’ depression for example?
This thing with the ship and shippers…it’s a really though topic, everyone has their opinion, and the fandom wars are on a high point now more than ever. You know the difference between a few years ago and now imo? We loved the characters, seriously that’s it. And you could tell me “but shippers love their characters too”, yeah not so much. I think they love the characters as couple, not as individuals. An incredible painful example is Cas’ death, destiel shippers didn’t mourn him, they were expecting the man pain from Dean. That’s not love. Well at least for me it’s not. I started shipping dean and cas, because in the early seasons, they were really well written, and were amazing characters tbh. Dean wasn’t a complete asshole and Cas wasn’t broken or used as a punching bag, they have their issues ofc, it’s spn after all, but they still worked together. The story of the angel falling for the man that he rescued was a good one, and the chemistry was there in spades. For me it was progressive and slow, heck I liked Lisa for Dean tbh. I have never shipped a m/m couple before, not because I think it’s wrong (before some fucker think that), but because I didn’t see the same magic that I saw later with dean and cas. I still don’t see it in other ships. But in the middle of season 6 is where spn lost me. I saw what they were trying to do with Cas, and when Dean said to death “kill him already” that was the final strike for me. So I started living in fanon and with the memories of how great dean and cas were at some point. Now all I see is an alcoholic hunter with anger issues that mistreats Cas again and again, and Cas that is broken beyond repair, takes the abuse. And I know it’s the writers fault, and I hate them even more for that. Not for destroying my ship, but for how shitty they treat my beloved characters, how they destroy them individually.
Look, I defended destiel shippers now and then, but at this point I don’t know if I can anymore. Of course amongst the rabid are really great people, of fucking course! Not all of them are obsessed, there are shippers that truly care about Cas (or Dean). But if the majority continue buying the bs that tptb are selling, then this is going to be an endless path of pain and hate. Because you know why they post that board tainting the shippers? Because it works. Surely later they are going to call shippers delusional, and destiel doesn’t exist, and they are assholes for that. But when the waters calm down the shippers are going to come back for more. Sad but true.
We don’t know if Misha is coming back, nobody says anything, they are playing with that too the fuckers, and Misha, that surely is still under contract can`t say anything. Besides I don’t see Misha a la Mark S., been all wanker about it to be honest, he wouldn’t do that. I wish, oh how I wish, that Misha has a great project other than spn, and he could say fuck you to tptb. He deserves better from the show and from some fans too.
This got long and a mess and I’m sorry. I hope you get my point. Hugs anon!
