year two.
you:  can you take megumi to the bookstore? i can't make it
"megumi wants me to ask you what you mean by 'i can't make it.'"
your phone rings as soon as the message is sent, making you groan and roll over in bed. your palms are sweaty, and your body feels a bit like you got eaten alive.
you probably shouldn't have answered, but honestly, how can you be expected to make smart decisions in this state?
you sigh into the phone. "it means that i can't make it, satoru."
usually, his voice would make you smile but right now it just makes you want to die. and sleep for a couple... billion years, at least.
"megumi wants me to ask what you mean by that?" satoru says again like you can't tell he's grinning.
"just let me talk to him," you sigh, turning over on your side, which does nothing to ease the ache in your abdomen, by the way. you feel briefly nauseous like you might need the bowl you dragged under the covers, but it eases. you swallow bile.
"what's wrong?" satoru asks, still teasing, and doesn't put megumi on the phone because he has never, not once in his life done anything without an argument.
really, why do you put up with him?
"nothing."
"well you just forgot that both of the kids are in school right now, like they are every day, so..."
you close your eyes, pulling the covers up even higher. "oh. yeah."
"did you get hurt, or something?" satoru asks, no concern evident in his voice, "going on another mission?"
"no."
satoru is silent, waiting. and you really truly do hate him. anyone else would just do you this favor.
but not your best friend, no, he does nothing you ask.
"i'm sick," you tell him, after a whole minute of silence.
you can almost hear it as his brows furrow. "what?"
"i have the flu or something," you cough into the receiver, hoping that it hurts his ear.
"how?"
"ugh," you groan, trying to rub the ache out of your jaw. "not all of us are immune to getting sick, you freak. will you take megumi to the bookstore for me? please?"
"i don't think he wants to go with me."
"satoru," you whine.
"...and also i'm not allowed to enter the premises anymore."
you sniff, wishing that you had more tissues, "what? since when?"
"a couple weeks ago," he answers, nonchalantly. you can hear him moving around, probably wreaking havoc on the house you'll have to deep clean in a couple of days.
not to mention your room. seriously, getting sick is the worst.
"why?"
"nuh uh," he says to you, very seriously. "that's between me and the children. they swore me to secrecy, and you're the one that's always going on and on about trust and how easily it's broken..."
"you mean that you swore them to secrecy."
"i bribed them," satoru agrees as if it's not an insane thing to say about your seven and eight-year-olds.
"with what?!"
"tsumiki took the offer of picking whatever takeout she wanted, and i think megumi was just glad i couldn't bring him anymore, the brat."
you can hear his eyes roll, and the mention of the little boy's name reminds you of why you're having this discussion in the first place.
"satoru... i really can't take him and i promised we'd go today," you groan into your pillow, voice feeling very sore. you shouldn't be talking to this insane man right now, you should be asleep.
he pauses. "i can wear a disguise, i guess?"
you groan again, hopefully, louder. "no, you're right about him not wanting to go with you."
"rude."
"i guess i'll just..." you attempt to sit up for the third time, feeling a bit dizzy as you do so. "i'll take some medicine and see if i feel better by the time they get out of school."
you're already mentally checking your medicine cabinet, not even sure if you have anything to help this ease by later in the afternoon. just some pain relief would be nice, but if you're contagious...
"what? no."
"well, you can't take him," you answer, still annoyed.
"he doesn't need to go..."
you hope that satoru can feel your scowl. "i promised."
"he's a reasonable kid..." satoru says, clearly not remembering the brooding that happened the last time megumi had to re-read one of his books. "i think."
you're silent.
"look, i'll talk to him, okay?" he settles on, finally. "and i'll give him a couple hundred yen, it'll be fine.
your mouth opens, and you cough, before, "no, satoru--"
"get some rest," he exclaims, unpleasantly.
"have him call me when you pick them up, satoru--"
"don't die of the flu or anything."
and then he's gone, and now you've got a headache, too.
*
you think you might be dreaming when you open your front door.
the knocking had woken you up--you think--but with how long it took to walk from your room, into the hallway, and then the door, honestly, you might've fainted. or decided to take another nap against the wall.
because once you open it, it feels like you've done this before.
once again, three people are standing in front of you, two of them already arguing before you even take a step back to swing the door all the way open.
the light hurts your head as you squint at the three of them.
"it was my idea--" megumi is saying to satoru, grumpy, you know, from all day at school, and because he's talking to satoru.
"you're not taking all of the credit," satoru says back, "i bought everything."
"'cause you're rich."
"wow, so you're objectifying me?"
"yes," megumi answers immediately, even though you doubt that he even knows what objectifying means (actually, you're pretty certain satoru doesn't even know). you cough, and it feels like something has died inside of you.
the three of them turn towards you, tsumiki with a pleading look.
"it was my idea, okay?" megumi tells you before anyone else can say anything, and then he pulls tsumiki along with him as they move past you, through the door, into your apartment.
yes, it's clear that satoru has raised them.
"i said we should bring soup," tsumiki looks up at you, waiting for the praise she knows you'll give her.
"our idea," megumi amends, easily.
then they're out of your reach, going to sit on the very same couch they'd slept on a year ago, probably trying to escape satoru.
who you turn to, with a frown. his hair is so white it hurts to look at.
he points into your apartment, "those are devil spawn."
you cough. "don't call them that."
he raises a brow at you. probably at how soft your voice is, or the fact that you haven't hit him in the thirty seconds he's been standing there.
it's a new record.
"why are you here?" you rasp out, wiping some snot from your nose.
"no 'hello?'"
"hello, satoru," your voice is retched, "why are you here?"
"you look kinda rough, kid,"
you sniff, leaning against the doorjam. you could fall asleep here in an instant. "i'm sick, you jerk."
"so this is sickness..." satoru says, intrigued, pretending to inspect you closely like you're some lab experiment.
"i distinctly remember a cold that had you shaking on the floor of your dorm, begging shoko to heal you."
satoru points a finger at you. "that was an uncurable illness."
"and yet we're still stuck with you."
satoru just smirks, pretending to be an angel he is not.
you cough again and then sigh. it's cold with the door open. "are you just here to annoy me?"
"no," satoru shakes his head, giving you a ridiculous look, "well, i was telling megumi that you couldn't take him to the bookstore, cause of your disease or whatever," he ignores your weak protest, "and then i suggested that maybe we could see how you were feeling, bring you a little gift basket--"
"no, he didn't!" megumi calls.
satoru frowns. "devil. spawn."
you snort, somehow amused at all of them, finally moving aside so he can walk through the door.
satoru passes, suddenly brighter, but not before leaving an obnoxious kiss on your cheek--a resounding smack following. to which, you promptly wipe off.
he frowns, and you push him so you can close the door. and then you trail into the kitchen, sitting down immediately before you fall.
it's so embarrassing that just standing for too long has made you this lightheaded.
satoru sets a bag on your kitchen counter and begins to unpack it.
you try to see over his hands. "what did you bring me?"
"you guys are so unappreciative," satoru tells you, pouting, "you only want me for my goods."
"and the view," you answer, easily. "what'd you get?"
megumi and tsumiki comes over to you, both of them giving you a short (megumi) and tight (tsumiki) hug. you've trained them well.
"soup!" tsumiki tells you, grabbing the container from satoru's hands, despite his look. and then she walks over to your stove, looking in the cupboards for a pot to heat it in.
because she's used to taking care of herself. they both are.
"satoru," you nod to her, and he frowns, but reluctantly takes over, pushing tsumiki away from the stove. you're both familiar with this behavior from her.
most days when you make dinner, tsumiki is trying to sneak into the kitchen, refusing to let you take care of it.
she pouts a little now, but lets satoru handle the soup.
"gojo got you all of these," megumi tells you, bringing your eyes away from the other man, pushing a stack of pill bottles and medicine containers your way. "i don't think he knows what any of them are."
"hey! that's a great selection," satoru pours the soup into a pot and sets it on the stove, returning to the counter with the three of you.
"this is a muscle relaxant," you tell him, frowning as you look at the packages--most of which are not for the flu. this is why he's not allowed to go to the store without you.
"well, your muscles need to relax, don't they?" satoru asks, dryly. "wish we could find some of those for your brain..." he mutters, afterward, and you throw the packet right at his face.
"i found those little sour things you like," megumi continues, smirking just a moment at satoru. "they didn't have a big bag."
"thanks, megs."
"there's tissues, and chapstick if your lips get dry. and i picked out the cough drops because gojo wanted to get chocolate flavored or something--"
"strawberry!"
megumi rolls his eyes.
tsumiki steps to your side again. "and we got flowers, but those are still in the car."
"no, they're not," satoru suddenly has a bouquet of roses in his hands, almost covering his entire face. "they're right here."
"when did you do that?"
"when you guys were ridiculing my excellent taste," he pouts, white hair falling over his glasses.
you laugh.
"where's your vase?" he asks, going through every cupboard before finally listening to your answer. he settles on the other end of your kitchen, cutting and arranging the bouquet.
tsumiki taps you. "are you feeling bad?"
"just a little out of it, sweetie, don't worry."
"did we get everything you need?" megumi chimes in, giving you a brief moment of eye contact before looking away.
"yes. you guys did great, thank you both. you're very sweet."
satoru ahems loudly. "and what about me?"
"you could've done better."
the kids both laugh and you push them into the living room, telling them to go sit down for a bit--knowing that satoru dragged them from school to the store to here without a break--and that you'll find a snack for them.
and then you sigh, a bit nauseous from sitting up for so long.
"do you need to lay down?" satoru peers at you, setting the bouquet on your table. "you look green."
"thanks. how'd you learn to do that?" you gesture to the flowers which are arranged beautifully. honestly, you're surprised he didn't leave them on the counter for you to deal with.
"i am a gentleman."
"ha. no, seriously."
"...i may, or may not have looked up what to bring someone who has the flu--and the flowers were extra, but!" he pauses as you laugh at him, resting your head against the cool counter. "i only had to do that because i don't get affected by stupid things like the flu or whatever you have."
"of course," you whisper, closing your eyes.
and then there's a hand on your forehead. "you're really warm."
you press your head into his hand, which is also pleasantly cold. "yeah."
"did you sleep all day?"
you nod.
"really? that's so lazy."
you push him away, and he laughs, just loud enough for you to hear it. you open your eyes again when you hear him move away, watching him stir the soup on the stove.
"you probably shouldn't have brought them here," you tell him, gesturing to the living room. "i don't want to get them sick."
"they missed you," satoru shrugs. "you wouldn't want them to be sick alone."
"yeah, but..."
"i'm the worrier today," he interrupts, wrapping his hand around your wrist so he can pull you. "go lay down on the couch with them and i'll get your soup ready."
"you'll burn it, you mean?"
"as a punishment for all of the cruel things you say to me," and satoru smiles as he nudges the top of your head with his nose.
his eyes are almost stern (almost, but not quite) as he watches you lay down on the couch, your hands gestured in defeat, and nods when you're settled in.
when he walks away, you call, "bring us some water!"
there's no response, but you know he'll do it.
tsumiki just slightly nudges you with her hand and you smile, opening your arms for her to cuddle under.
megumi doesn't do the same, but you don't fail to notice when he scooches just a little bit closer to you both, his thigh touching yours.
your head still hurts and even the smell of the soup is making you a bit sick, but you'll deal with it as long as they're all here.
*
you're arguing with satoru about dinner, several days later, when tsumiki and megumi sneeze at exactly the same time.
it took a couple of days for you to recover, but now you're better than ever, happily fighting with satoru over the stupidest things and watching over both of the children for any defects that happened while you were out of sorts.
they're mostly okay.
but now the both of you look over to them, your eyes wide, satoru almost wincing.
and then you look back to him, already scowling.
"hey, it was just a sneeze," he tells you, quickly, already knowing what you're about to say.
"i told you--"
and then he sneezes, taking a step away from you.
you groan, giving up on dinner. it looks like the next few days are going to be spent coddling all of your children.

FORGIVE ME, BABY ᡣ𐭩 eren yeager x reader
Tumblr media
synopsis: u find out ur fwb has been fucking other girls on the low and u hate being one of his options, so he comes over to “apologize” to you
warnings: kissessss, pussy eating, fingering, orgasm denial, choking, pet names (baby, my love, princess), eren is just a lil mean n nonchalant 😠, reader is kinda possessive hehe 🎀, reader and eren r both in their 3rd year of college, once again written with a black women in mind but anyone can read
wc: 1.4k
a/n: here’s another fic that has been collecting dust in my notes for a hot minute. i hope yall enjoy 💋
Tumblr media
you’re chilling on your bed, scrolling through instagram bored outta your mind when you get a call from your fuck buddy, eren. you shot up from ur position on the bed making sure u looked good enough to answer the facetime call. when you were just about to pick up, you stopped in your tracks and let it ring until the call eventually went away.
you wanted to pick up, you really did but you had remembered that just a few days ago mikasa, your best friend, had sent you a screenshot of one of her instagram mutuals close friends post with a message undernesth it saying “isn’t that ur man??”. you clicked on the screenshot and it was a picture of eren and some random girl laying in bed, eren with his face buried deep into her neck displaying all the hickeys he must’ve gotten from her with her hand touching his back. you instantly knew it was eren because of the tattoo behind his ear. obviously you knew you and eren weren’t together and probably would never be, but you just couldn’t stand the sight of seeing him give the d to anyone else who wasn’t u when he could simply just hit you up if he wanted a good fuck. your phone dinged 2 times, making you snap out of your trance.
rennie 💋💋
why u ain’t pick up?
i have ur location, ik ur ass is home.
you rolled your eyes at his messages, deciding not to text him back and just call him instead. he picks up on the first ring, instantly questioning you, not even giving u a proper greeting. “why didn’t you pick up?” he says with a blank stare. “well hello to you too” you scoff which doesn’t go unnoticed by him but he chooses to ignore it. “i was in the bathroom.” you lied. eren nods his head, looking away from the camera not saying anything. there’s a moment of silence before he breaks it and shifts his focus back onto you. “i wanna come over, i miss you.” you shake ur head laughing a bit at his statement. “you don’t miss me, you was just with some other girl like 2 days ago. if you really missed me you would’ve came to me instead of her” eren opens his mouth to speak, but you countinue talking. “eren, you know how i feel about being one of your lil hoes. if you wanna have multiple girls on your roster and pick and choose who u want to fuck on what days, you can get the fuck off my line because i’m not gonna be apart of that bullshit.”
eren sighs and doesn’t say anything for a couple of seconds. he thinks about his next actions and choice of words carefully. on one hand, he can argue with you, which would then lead to you not talking to him for a week, ignoring all his messages and calls and then eventually you’ll get tired of doing that and tell him to come over so y’all can “talk”. or he can just agree with whatever you were saying—and he chose the latter. his patience was wearing thin, he actually did miss you and he didn’t want to jeopardize his chances of seeing you with some stupid argument.
after thinking out his words he finally speaks “you’re right princess, i’m sorry” he says trying to sound as sympathetic as possible. honestly, eren didn’t give a fuck if u did or didn’t like his lifestyle, he does whatever the hell he wants to do. however, he didn’t want u to get any more upset with him than u already were, so he decided to make u feel like u had the upper hand so u would let him come over.
you were about to open your mouth to say some slick shit to him because you knew that these type of conversations between the two of you always ended up in some type of back and forth argument, so you were taken aback when he not only agreed with what you were saying, but even apologized. and eren never apologizes. “im right?” u question, confusion laced in your tone. “yea baby, you are and i’m sorry for making you feel that way. i’ll stop fucking around with all these girls i promise, just let me come over so i can make it up to you properly” after hearing all of eren’s empty promises and him actually “agreeing” with what u had to say for once, you folded immediately and told him to come over. you probably would’ve been standing on buisness a little bit more if u didn’t crave his touch so much but you did, you needed wanted him badly.
once you gave eren the green light that he can come over he was there in less than fifteen minutes and had you butt naked on your bed in less than five.
“keep your legs up, baby” eren instructs and u do as he says. you lift your legs up, locking your arms around them to keep them in place. eren begins to kiss all over the lower half of your tummy and slowly trails down to your pretty pussy. his kisses are so sweet, slow, and sensual that is has your toes curling in the air.
“mmm ren..f-feels good” you mutter out while letting out soft moans. eren hums, which sends a little vibration into you. eren knew u were close, even if u didn’t tell him u were. he was always so good at reading u like a book, but for now he decided to play dumb by pulling away and pretending like he didn’t know why u let out that little grunt when he did. before you can question why he stopped he starts rubbing on your puffy clit while looking into your eyes.
“y/n, i really am sorry that i didn’t come to you the other day. i don’t know what i was thinking princess, you think you can forgive me?” eren coos at you, with a little smirk on his face that goes unnoticed by you since your head is in the clouds with the way he’s rubbing on you. when he doesn’t get a response he slaps your pussy, earning a loud whine from you. “you didn’t answer me my love. you forgive me?” he asks again. “y-yes eren…i-i forgive you!” u hardly manage to let out.
eren smiles at you before he gives the lower half of your stomach another wet kiss. he moves his head back down so he can start making out with your pussy again. he’s being so sloppy with it but lord it feels so good. you try to push eren’s head away but he doesn’t let up and instead starts adding two of his long digits into your wet pussy while eating it.
you had no more strength left in your body to push his head away with the way he was eating and fingering your pussy. “erennnn im so closeee!!” you whine. and just when you were about to have your release, eren stops. he lifts his body up so he can sit down straight on the bed and he looks down at ur trembling body and just laughs.
“rennn what are u doing…?” u question quietly. eren rests his large palm on the right side of your cheek “i’m glad you forgive me, but you know…” he pretends to think for a moment, “i never got an apology from you for telling me what to do and you know i hate that bossy shit” his hands slides up to your neck and he gives it a little squeeze just enough to make you cough a bit. you rest ur smaller hands on top of eren’s, mentally hoping that you can make him forgive you and he’ll forget about all this and just make you cum.
“r-ren i swear i wont do it again im really sorry i-“ eren cuts you off and leans down to press a quick kiss onto your lips that were now swollen from you biting on them previously. he lets go of your neck and gives you his signature annoying (but sexy) smirk and god you wished you could slap that stupid look off his face, but you’re in such a weak state right now from how he was eating you out </3.
“show me how sorry you are and maybe i’ll think about forgiving you, sound good princess?”

Being the second captain of Barcelona, meant coming with a few responsibilities. Like showing new players around, and trying to include them in the atmosphere to make the whole move less daunting. It probably makes sense considering we are the best in the world.
Which is what’s happening right now, we’ve signed a new centre-back, considering we barely have any due to injuries. Currently we rely on a defensive midfielder, and anyone we deam can do it. Not ideal. January transfer is like heaven.
We walk around, talk about our lives a little bit as I try to make conversation more homey. Apparently she has a girlfriend who plays for PSG and I talk about Alexia, my other captain and long-time girlfriend. Who may (definitely) have a slight jealousy problem.
After a while of talking and walking, we make it to the gym and I announce the arrival.
“Everyone! As you know, we have a new person joining us! Make her feel welcome, included and we won’t have any problems. Got it?” They nod their heads going back to their respective activities as the new recruit smiles fondly at me, something which doesn’t go missed by Alexia.
I turn to face the CB.
“Now you, let’s get you headed for the locker room. I’ll show you your area and then you can go home for now. I’m assuming Jona has emailed you a schedule of everything?” She nods.
“Alright, now message me if you need anything and I’ll add you to the main group chat all of the girls are in.” She smiles and I lead her toward our changing rooms showing her where she’ll be.
“You can decorate a little bit, add some personality like some of the girls have. Anything you need can be kept here.” I point to a door at the end of the room.
“That’s the showers, obviously if you’re going anywhere after trainings. I know Patri likes to play music, so I suggest some strong noise-cancelling headphones if you don’t like the music. Any questions?” She shakes her head, I smile.
“Well then, go home. Settle into the new apartment, Ale and I live pretty close to you. Same with Ingrid and Mapi, who are also willing to answer anything else you have in mind.”
I pause.
“Now, if that girlfriend of yours ever comes to visit I’d like to meet her, I know it seems straightforward but I do like meeting new people.” I notice the recruit blushing, and pat her shoulder before leaving.
- - - - -
Over the next couple days, I ensure the new defender is fitting in well and she is. Hanging out with Ingrid and Frido but also Keira and Aitana, it’s good to see.
Alexia might think differently. I noticed her getting worked up over something but I can’t imagine what. I can but I don’t know how when a quick instagram search could cease any of her worries. She’s too straight headed for that.
It’s after training when I see her approach, I’m speaking on tactics in the locker room when Alexia slides in next to me, her arm wrapping protectively around my waist. I smirk then hear what she has to say.
“Ready to go home amor?” She says, kissing my neck softly, something she’d rarely do in such a public setting. I stifle my laugh nodding and saying my goodbyes to everyone else, getting in the passenger seat of our car as Alexia insists she always drives.
I sigh, her jaw is set and I can tell something is wrong.
“Alexia, qué pasó?” She shakes her head, her knuckles growing whiter as she grips the steering wheel. I know I can’t do anything but I seem so helpless at the moment.
It’s a completely different change from the confidence in the change rooms to now not even speaking to me.
We head inside without saying a word, I head straight for a shower to hopefully get a grip on where the conversation with Alexia will lead.
- - - - -
After the shower, I walk into the living room and Alexia is sat with her legs crossed in the couch, staring straight ahead at the blank TV. I break the silence.
“If you stare at the poor TV any longer I think it’ll break.” She doesn’t say anything, just nodding slowly her eyes darting toward me before back in front.
“I will not do this Ale. You need to tell me your feelings or we can’t work this out.” She huffs leaning back.
“Lo siento, I just… missed you.” Her voice quiet, I nod in understanding, I spent a lot of time with the new defender.
“So in other words, you’re jealous?” She blows an air bubble between her lips. (do you guys know what i mean by that)
“Maybe.” I can barely hear her voice but I don’t need to.
“Well baby, nothing to worry about because A. she has a girlfriend and B. I love you more than anything. Never forget that. I’ll try make more time and maybe we can meet the new ones girlfriend when she comes to Spain.” She nods slowly.
“Sorry I acted this way.” I shake my head.
“No, it’s ok. I understand, I sort of put you aside. I’ve learnt and I’ll prioritise your feelings a little bit more in the future.” She nods, tears glistening in her eyes.
“Te amo Ale. Remember it forever.” I place my lips against hers, gently and full of passion that I’d never give to anyone but her.
When oxygen gets the best of us I rest my forehead against hers, breathing in everything of this moment. Oh, I never want to leave.

No Vacancy - Day Two
Tumblr media
Characters: Sam Winchester x fem!Reader, Dean, Castiel
Content: Majorly plot building. Romantic/sexual tension.
Summary: In day two of your one-on-one case with Sam, you gather intel together. Once things settle down for the second night, Dean reveals some news. Sam realizes he’s made a huge mistake involving a lust spell.
*A/N: This chapter was getting a bit long, and I haven’t posted in a couple days, so this chapter is out early! Honestly I like the pacing of this a bit better so I don’t burn out. Y’all better be ready for the next chapter 👀
————
“Mrs. O’Connor, would you say that your daughter had any enemies? Anyone who would want to cause her harm?” Sam’s tone was filled with compassion as the woman explained the situation.
Her lips wobbled, “I-I don’t know. Casey was a sweet girl, she just got caught up in the wrong crowd, that’s all.”
“Did you see any changes in her behavior in these past few weeks?” You piped up, matching the softness of Sam’s voice.
Casey’s mother shook her head, tears streaming down her cheeks. You reached into the inner pocket of your suit jacket, handing her a pack of tissues. She gives you thanks and takes a moment before she speaks again.
“Not much. She was quieter, sure, but I thought, y’know, maybe she was depressed - she spent almost all of her time in her room. We were so close, and she just… distanced herself.”
“How so?” Sam asked.
Through tears, her voice broke, “Her whole demeanor changed, got… darker. She wouldn’t let me into her room anymore. That was where we had our movie nights…”
You nodded as you listened, glancing to Sam for a sign of a breakthrough, but his expression was muddled. A few moments later you were handing your personal number to Casey’s mother, and wishing her a good day.
Sam asked, “So, what do you think?”
“I think we should check her room, but we need to give her mom some time,” you replied, mulling over what could have caused Casey’s murder.
Your phone buzzed against your hand in your pocket. To your relief you saw a text from Casey’s mother: Thank you for your help. I’m glad Casey has people who care like you do.
You showed Sam the message. His eyebrows furrowed in thought.
“What do I say back?”
“Well, we need to mention looking at Casey’s room,” Sam detailed, “and that we’re happy to help further.”
Your fingers fiddled with your phone as you issued a reply.
Of course. I’m sure the police have done so already, but we were given instruction to inspect Casey’s room. Would you mind letting us look around later today?
The reply was swift: Yes, that's fine. I'll be home later this evening, 7 p.m. would be the best time.
Stuffing your phone back into your pocket, you updated Sam.
"She says we can come back at 7 tonight. Until then, we should probably look over the police report and see who might know what happened to her."
Sam nodded, "We'll head back to the motel and look into it."
The motel. The goddamn motel where you and Sam blurred the lines of your friendship. With any luck, he wouldn't mention anything of last night, or this morning.
It was the way it felt so normal to wake up with him, to be enveloped in his arms, his scent, his soft breathing before he woke. It was a one-time thing that wouldn't, and couldn't, happen again. It was a vow - a guarantee to yourself that you wouldn't slip up like before. You reminded yourself on loop until you reached the motel again.
Twenty minutes later, and you were still staring at your computer screen. The thoughts couldn't flow like they normally did with your research. Vague searches covered the screen, but nothing constructive.
'Casey O'Connor family' 'Casey O'Connor facebook' 'Casey O'Connor instagram' 'Casey O'Connor death’
The tension you held in the pit of your stomach turned over itself when Sam cleared his throat.
"Find anything yet?"
Your breath hitched in your throat. Maybe Sam hadn't given things much thought after all. His tone was his usual curious self, but those bright hazel eyes swallowed you whole.
"Uh- no, not yet," you stammered, "I was, um, gonna take a pause and go to the lobby. About the... room situation."
Sam's lips thinned into a terse smile. For him, he didn't care one bit if there was another room available. He watched you leave the room, cursing himself all the while you were gone. You returned with a nervous smile, sparking a hidden hope in Sam's chest.
"Still no other rooms. And no cots, either."
It was Sam's turn to remind himself that last night crossed a boundary. All he'd thought about today was you, regardless of how hard he tried to reroute his thoughts. The way you'd buried your head into his chest, how you murmured in your sleep, how delicate your body felt in his hands...
He snapped himself out of it again, muttering to himself.
"What'd you say?" You raised an eyebrow at him.
He shook his head, "Nothing, I'm just mumbling to myself."
You let out a soft laugh, taking a seat on the bed. The ache in your shoulders reminded you of the consequences of sitting hunched over on the floor.
"The least they could've done was give us a desk or something."
"That's what you get in a small town, remember?" Sam quipped, that goofy grin back in action. You rolled your eyes at him and settled into your side of the bed, laptop open across your lap again.
Sam leaned over to you, staring at your screen. Well, you weren't lying when you said things on your end weren't interesting. You turned your head, watching him scour the Google search you haphazardly thought up.
"I... didn't really know what to look up," you admitted flatly.
He let out a breathy laugh, glancing sidelong at you. Those damn eyes. Part of you dared to close the inches between you, to brush your lips against his as if it were nothing. One wrong move, and you could risk everything you'd made with him. You surveyed his parted lips, suddenly pulled back up to his gaze when he cleared his throat. You shook yourself out of your trance and gave him a muttered apology before he took your laptop.
Within seconds he found something substantial - report cards from school, Facebook posts, tagged photos on Instagram.
"How'd you do that?" You asked.
Sam pushed himself beside you to give you a better angle at the screen, "First thing you gotta do is have the full name. Otherwise, you're flooding your search with 'Casey O'Connor's' from all over the country."
His arm brushed against yours, but he didn't pull away. Instead he rested fully against you as his fingers flew over the keys, opening page after page of information. You chose to let go and ease into him, head dropped to his shoulder as you watched. Sam's fingers stalled more than usual with you now relaxed against him. It was his turn for his thoughts to escape him.
"So, um," you piped up, "what are we looking for?"
He cleared his throat, "Changes in behavior, maybe in stuff that she posted, grades dropping, anything that seems like a red flag."
Casey's most recent posts to Instagram caught your eye. After explaining your gut feeling to Sam, the both of you kept mental note that perhaps Casey did get involved with something sinister.
The two of you had gotten lunch, lazed about town, and stoped by Casey’s school by the time 7 pm rolled around. At the O’Connor house, you kept downstairs to talk with the family, while Sam searched Casey’s bedroom. It took about 30 minutes, and you two were on your way.
“What’d you find?”
Sam handed you his phone, the photos organized into a neat folder. You inspected each image, taking stock in each sign - herbs scattered around, countless candles, and bottles of dark liquid.
“Is that..?”
“Blood, yeah. Almost didn’t see them; one rolled out of the closet. And if you see here,” he trailed on, scrolling to another photo, “seems like a pretty intricate altar in there.”
“Figures why she wouldn’t want her mom in the room,” you added.
You handed the phone back to Sam, fighting back a shiver when his hand grazed yours.
Perhaps he noticed, too, judging by the way his cheeks blushed. In the evening sun, it was barely noticeable but you were almost certain of it. You packed yourselves into the car and drove back to the motel. You rummaged through your duffel bag the moment you stepped in the door, picking out a new outfit for bed. Sam kicked off his dress shoes and shrugged off his suit jacket.
“Bedtime already, huh?” Sam teased. You turned to him and smiled.
“Just wanna get cozy. Makes doing research much easier.”
Sam shrugged, “Not a bad idea, I’ll probably do the same when you’re done. Need to get out of this damn suit.”
The time on your computer screen read 11:43 p.m., meaning you and Sam had been continuing your research for at least two hours. It had taken a toll of you both, with eyes dry and shoulders aching. You rested your tired eyes and felt the pull of exhaustion start to take over.
Until Sam’s phone rang - it was Dean. Sam immediately placed his brother on speakerphone.
“How’s the lovely couple?” Dean asked. He wasn’t in the room, but you could tell he was smiling - a shit eating grin that irritated you as much as his brother.
“Very funny, Dean,” Sam replied smoothly, a twitch in his eyebrow showed his annoyance. “How are things going on your end?”
Castiel muttered in the background of the phone call. Dean stuttered over his words as he told Cas to stop interfering.
“Okay, so we did a little searching on Casey. I mean, well, Cas did most of it. Turns out, our lovely Miss O’Connor had gotten involved with magic.”
Sam’s eyes snapped to yours, then to his laptop where he had stored photos of Casey’s bedroom. As you two listened to Dean the dots connected to make a full picture.
It was Castiel’s voice that piped up next, “We have reason to believe that Casey was involved with something dark. It doesn’t look like your average witchcraft. We’re talking about more forceful magic - breaking and creating soulmate contracts.”
He continued, “Those kind of bonds, soulmates, are meant to take time. It seems that Casey’s spells were focused on peoples driving emotions. Feelings like fear, insecurity, lust, and mania. Anything that could make people act out, it’s been happening in her social circle.”
“So, basically she’s playing Cupid?” you offered.
“Exactly,” Dean confirmed, interrupting Cas, “we broke some of the spells, but it seems like Casey did all of her little projects at home. Hell, she sent the spells to her friends in the mail. Who knew you could Amazon Prime some witchcraft.”
You chuckled at the joke, rolling your eyes. Sam smiled at you with relief that this whole situation had blown over.
“So, what’s next?” you prodded.
“If you two didn’t see any weird hoodoo at Casey’s house, then everything should be all settled.”
Sam furrowed his brows, “But Casey was murdered, how did she die, then?”
Dean replied, “That’s the karma of it. Casey planted a sachet on her boyfriend - love spell gone haywire. He eventually went a little too love-crazy, and ended up killing her. Jealousy was the source of it.” His tone has grown sullen with the final piece of news.
Now with the extra details, you didn’t know how to feel. What happened to Casey had been horrible, and it had worked itself out in the end. It was the part of hunting that never settled well with you. Sometimes, you simply couldn’t save everyone.
“Got it. So we’ll head back out tomorrow to meet you at the bunker, yeah?” Sam confirmed.
Dean’s tone changed to playfulness again, “Actually, I need y’all to check out a case the next town over. Mind camping out a couple more nights?”
It seemed Dean’s request was a final verdict based on the way Sam pursed his lips.
“Yeah, no problem, talk to you later,” Sam ended the call. He threw his phone onto the bed and closed his laptop.
“You alright?” You asked him. Sam let out a soft sigh and looked toward his suit jacket by the door.
“I think I might’ve screwed up.”
You did a double take, “What do you mean? Dean and Cas figured it out.”
He raced over to the jacket, fishing through the pockets until he plucked a small bundle. Your expression dropped completely at the sachet in his palm. Sam returned to your side and let you examine it - a small brown sack you assumed held herbs, oils, and then some. The sigils across the fabric stumped you; they were nothing like you’d ever seen before.
“What is this, Sam?”
“One of her spells,” he said, defeated, “I wanted to examine it, to see if someone planted something on her. That was before we knew that Casey was the witch.”
“Okay, so, what kind of spell is it?” you asked further.
Sam reopened his laptop, silent as he furiously typed away. Image after image splayed onto the screen - the realization came over the two of you at once.
“Lust.”
He coughed at the word, unable to choose his next move. Sam leaned back and let his head thump against the wall.
“Can’t we just…. burn it? Toss it out?”
With bated breath you waited for Sam to say something, anything. Instead he just shook his head.
“By now I’ve had it on me for hours. We’re kind of past the point of burning it.”
“Okay, but the spells only work on feelings that are already there, right? It wouldn’t work unless you’re with someone you wanted to, um… you know.”
Sam’s breathing quickened with each passing second. His words came out with an overwhelming shakiness.
“It’s a little late for that.”

Now You're In My Life - Part 3
part 1
part 2
pairing: Harry Styles x plus size reader
word count: 1.8k (it's a shorty, but I promise the next one won't be)
summary: a chance meeting at a diner turns your world upside-down.
warnings: some curse words, but other than that it's tame.
a/n: i am absolutely blown away by the reception i've received over the last couple of days. i just had these stories in my brain that i wanted to write down to get out of my system, i never in a million years thought anyone would read them, let alone actually like them. i'm so thankful for all of the likes, comments, reblogs, lurkers. thank you thank you thank you! 🖤
i say it's a plus size reader, while i don't focus a lot on that aspect (because your size should not define you), it will come up, so i just wanted to be upfront about it.

The day after your night with Harry, you sat at your desk willing your eyes to stay open as you reviewed the end of month report. By the time you got home, and the adrenaline of the evening had worn off, you only really got about an hour and a half of sleep. You figure you probably should have called out, but you had been holding onto your PTO so that you could end the year with two months of short weeks.
You were startled by a soft knock at your cubicle wall. You turned to find one of your coworkers, hiding half of his body and displaying a suspicious smile on his face. “Hi Y/N.”
“No way that’s a good greeting,” you reply cautiously. “What’s wrong?”
“You always think the worst of us,” he chuckled. “I’m just here to hand off the delivery that just came for you.” He stepped to his left, revealing an elaborate flower arrangement.
Your eyes went wide and you reached out to take the vase, pulling it up to your face to inhale the scent of fresh sunflowers, orange roses, safari sunset, and yellow solidago. The perfect combination of fall colors.
“You guys got me flowers?” You ask. Sure, you worked with some great guys, but they were typical mid-forties construction guys, you didn’t think it would ever cross their minds to get you flowers. Especially for no reason.
“Not us.” Your coworker shrugged before returning to his desk.
Even more confused than before, you place the flowers down on your desk, and remove the attached card. Pulling it from the envelope, her heart leapt as she read over the words.
Thank you for last night. Especially that last bit.
-H
PS - This should also cover your train ride. ;)
They were from Harry. He was thanking you for kissing him.
That’s it, you clearly never made it into work, you’re still at home in your bed. This has to be a dream.
You sat back down, and reached for your phone on the other side of the desk. You didn’t want to bother him, but it would be polite to thank him for the flowers, right? Just one text, that’s not too much of a bother. He can read it when he has a moment and respond whenever he wants. If he wants. You take a deep breath, building up the courage, and quickly open up your message app, typing Harry’s name into a new message.
Thank you sooooo much for the flowers. Completely unnecessary, but very much appreciated. :)
Before you even had a chance to lock your phone, a FaceTime call from Harry lit up the screen. Your eyes went wide, you weren’t even really expecting a reply text, let alone a FaceTime.
You swipe to answer, and before you know it, you’re staring at Harry who’s looking into his phone with that wide, dimpled grin.
“Harry, you really didn’t have to do this.”
“I know, but I wanted to. Do you like them?”
“They’re beautiful. Really.”
“Well, let’s see them then.”
You swap the camera view, the flowers coming onto the screen. You see Harry’s brow furrow and his head shake in disapproval.
“No no no, this won’t do at all. I’m going to have to let you go. I’ve got to give that florist a piece of my mind.”
“What?! Why? They’re so beautiful!”
“I made it very clear to them that I wanted the flowers to be as beautiful as you are. These aren’t even close.”
Your heart melts immediately, but you’re quickly snapped out of it by the sarcastic ‘awws’ and kissy noises from the cubicles around you. Everyone was listening to your call. You were mortified.
“Y/N, can you flip the camera back around, please?” Harry’s voice rings out over the taunting of your coworkers. You quickly comply, and he starts to chuckle. “There’s that adorable blush. I wish I were there to pinch those cheeks.”
You cover your eyes with your free hand before rushing into a nearby conference room for some privacy. You take a seat at the table, placing your elbow down and burying your face in your hand.
“I’m sorry, Y/N. I didn’t mean to embarrass you.” Harry says before taking a brief pause. “Well, maybe a little.” He chuckles. “But more than that, I wanted to make sure you know that last night meant a lot to me.”
His words pull you from your spiral of embarrassment, you stay silent for a moment, making sure you heard him correctly before uncovering your face. “Really?” You ask tentatively. Harry nods his head with a sweet smile. “Me too.”
“Yeah? Excellent! I’d really like to see you again, would you like that?”
“Yeah, I really would.”
“Great, New York City isn’t that far from you, right?”
“No, it’s a few hours. Not a bad ride, I’ve done it a few times.”
“Would you like to do it this weekend? I’m at Madison Square Garden Saturday and Sunday, I would really like you to come.”
Your smile widens at the thought of spending the weekend with Harry. “Yeah, that sounds really great. I would love to.”
“Great! Can I book anything for you? Travel? Hotel?”
“No Harry, I’ve got it. I’ll book everything and let you know my itinerary.”
Harry smiles, and you can see the excitement in his eyes, even through the phone screen. “I can’t wait. Oh! And don’t forget your costumes!”
“Costumes?”
“Yeah, it’s Harryween! You’ll need to have costumes for the shows.”
“Harry… ween?” You question.
“Yeah, it’s Halloween, and my name is Harr--”
“No no no, I get it,” You interrupt him, waving your hand at the camera. “I just… it’s cute.” You smile.
“Yeah?”
“Definitely. I’m a sucker for a good pun.”
You see a sparkle in Harry’s eyes, and his dimples re-appear. “I knew I liked you, Y/N.” He joked. “The costumes don’t have to be too elaborate or anything, you can just reuse one of your old ones.”
Your chuckle at his suggestion. “I don’t think that’s going to work, I haven’t had a Halloween costume since I was like twelve.”
Harry’s jaw dropped at your confession. “You don’t go out on Halloween? No parties or anything.”
You shrug in response. “Never get invited anywhere.” You pause for a moment, suddenly remembering the one time you actually did get invited to a Halloween party. As a plus one. You were dumped two days before the party, and it was too late to return the costume, so you threw it in one of your basement storage bins. “Actually, I may have something.”
Harry could see the sadness in your eyes as you recalled the memory. He hated the sight, and silently swore to himself that he’d do everything in his power to make sure you never made that face again.
“Perfect. I’m sure you’ll look stunning in whatever it is.”
You grin through your blush, a knock at the door brings you back to the present. “Well, I uh… I should get back to work. I’ll see you this weekend.”
Definitely. And I’ll be texting and calling you well before that. You don’t really think I’m just going to go three days without talking to you, do you?”
“I mean, you went all those years without talking to me before we met.” You shrugged.
“Then I guess we’re going to have to talk all that much more to make up for lost time.” The sincerity in his voice makes your heart race. “I’ll talk to you soon, Y/N.”
“Bye, Harry.” You smile before ending the call and returning to your desk.
When Harry said you had to make up for lost time, you didn’t think he meant it literally. But he would text you often throughout the day. He would let you know what he was up to, ask you what you were doing and tell you how excited he was to see you this weekend.
He had a show Wednesday night, and he had been texting you right up until the last moment before he went onstage. He asked if he could call you after the show, you told him of course. You figured it would be around eleven or so, which was pretty late for you, but you’d just go to bed and leave your ringer on. The sound of the phone would wake you up, and you could talk to Harry and hear all about the show before going to bed properly.
The plan worked… mostly.
The sound of your phone woke you from your slumber. Still half asleep, you reach over to your nightstand, swiping to answer the call. “Harry?” You say groggily.
“Y/N? I can’t see you.”
See?! It’s a phone call, what is he talking about? You pull the phone from your ear and look at the screen, you sit up with a jolt when you see Harry’s face on the other end.
It wasn’t a phone call, it was a FaceTime. He was on your screen, hair perfectly tousled from performing onstage. He looked amazing. You were in bed, hair in a sloppy topknot, no makeup, a couple of pimple patches, probably some eye crusties. And Harry wanted to see you.
“I… uh… I thought you were going to call?”
“I was, but I missed your face. I wanted to see you.”
Harry wanted to see you. Not if he knew the horror show that was waiting for him on the other side of that phone. “That’s really sweet Harry, but I wasn’t expecting to see you. I don’t have any makeup on, I’m all gross and night face-y”
“Turn on the light, darling. Let me see you.”
Darling. He called you darling. Nothing that had happened over the past three days felt real.
How could you say no now? “Alright, fine. But don’t say I didn’t warn you.” You sigh and reluctantly lean across your nightstand, turning on your lamp. You look into the phone, Harry’s eyes soften when he finally sees you. A look of adoration spread across his face.
“You’re so beautiful, Y/N.”
“Harry…”
“I’m serious. Thank you for being vulnerable with me.” He had seen it the night you met, but your insecurities and difficulties letting people in became even more obvious to him the more he spoke with you. He wanted nothing more than to be trusted with your heart. He wanted to know everything about you; the good, the bad, he wanted you to let him in, and he was willing to take as much time as you needed.
You talked for a few minutes, getting a recap of his show, talking about your schedules for the next day. But Harry could see you were tired, he didn’t want to keep you up too long. You said your goodnights, and he blew you a kiss through the phone. You smiled shyly and ended the call, placing your phone back down, turning off the light, and snuggling into your blankets. You drifted off, replaying your conversation in your head.
Especially the part where he called you darling.

They didn't even notice he was gone the first four days. The first day was a Friday, everyone was everywhere, rushing to get shit done to enjoy their weekend. Next two days were the weekend and the group was scattered. Sure, a couple of them were in the Hard Deck, but it wasn't unusual for Hangman to miss out for a while. Heck, one of them could have sworn they saw Hangman leaving the bar, a lady charmed by his side. The fourth day was the same as the first, everyone was busy, the group didn't really have a reason for all of them to be together.
The fifth day had a scheduled lecture with Mav, followed by a hop.
Phoenix arrived 10 minutes before the scheduled lecture, eyes scanning the empty classroom, before her lips tugged into a smug smile. She beat Hangman and Rooster, today.
Rooster followed suite, plopping down on Phoenix's left.
Harvard and Yale came next, then Bob, Coyote, Fritz, Halo, Fanboy and Payback, Omaha.
Then Mav.
"Good morning, aviators, this is your captain speaking!" Mav said cheerily, sauntering in the room to set down his files at the desk.
Phoenix narrowed her eyes at the empty desk.
Late. The man is probably just late.
Hangman was never late. In reality, the man never let anyone hanging. Not for all the years Phoenix knew the man.
Navy's Golden Boy, Hangman, the perfect officer.
"Anyone know where Hangman is?" Mav said nodding his head at the empty desk.
The classroom was silent.
"Coyote?" Mav prompted.
"I don't know, sir, we messaged yesterday, but I haven't heard from him today," Coyote said, uneasily.
"Well," Mav said, pausing, "I guess he's late for the first time, I'll give him a pass as long as he shows up by the time for hops. But, I will put him to the same standard as all of you, so he'll just have to learn on the fly what you will be discussing here." Mav said giving a grin.
"He wouldn't want anything less, sir," Coyote said easily and Phoenix nodded at that.
The lecture continued, but all throughout, Phoenix noticed everyone (including herself) glance at the door every now and then. Mav, more often the others, given by the way he'd frown at the door, then scrunch his forehead at the clock above it. Coyote was discretely typing quickly at his phone whenever Mav turned towards the board. Rooster's moustache was twitching more than usual.
"Okay, guys, suit up, the groups are listed on the board, group A will go first, Coyote, if Hangman doesn't come you'll substitute for him in group C," Mav said, nodding at them before he left the classroom, and whipped out his phone.
---
When they were going to their jets, Mav told Coyote that he was going up with both groups B & C.
---
The hop ended and still no Hangman in sight.

Coyote and Mav both arrived in front of Hangman's apartment at the same time, they stared at each other awkwardly.
"Great, I was worried I was going to be overstepping, but with you here, I can just say I was tagging along with you," Mav said brightly as he clapped Coyote in the back.
Coyote snorted, "Sure, Mav," he said as he turned back towards the door and knocked loudly. "JAKEY, WAKEY WAKEY, I KNOW YOU'RE IN THERE, BUDDY!"
"Jesus, kid, didn't expect you to that set of lungs in you," Mav muttered.
They waited a few seconds, not hearing any response. Coyote knocked again before shrugging and pulling out a key and used it to open the door.
Mav didn't question it.
Pretty small apartment. Empty. Bare. Kitchen on one side, living room on the other. A small table was right beside the door, Jake's car keys, wallet, and a picture of two young midshipmen, laughing together. A door at the end of the small room, Coyote went to one of them and knocked loudly, once again.
"Jake!" Coyote shouted before twisting the door knob, letting out an exclamation of surprise when it twisted open and forward. Coyote dashed into the room, "Jake!?"
Mav immediately set down the plastic bag of food he brought in the kitchen counter before going inside the room after Coyote. He saw Coyote already sitting at the edge of a bed, fuzzing on a half-awake Hangman, burritoed up in blankets, messy hair, blinking slowly as Coyote cupped a palm on his forehead.
" 'Avy?" Hangman croaked out, voice sounding like glass.
"Good morning to you, buddy, how long have you been feeling sick?"
Hangman took a deep breath to answer, and Mav winced in sympathy noticing how the boy had a hard time breathing and was sniffling hard, as if he was congested. Very congested.
"Here, kiddo, blow your nose, first," Mav said handing Jake the box of tissues from the bedside table.
Jake slowly propped himself up on the headboard and blew, hard. But his congested sniffles still remained after a whole minute of mucus ejection.
Jake blushed as he looked at both Mav and Javy then looked down at his lap, "Sorry."
"Nothing to apologize for, except for not telling me how long you've been sick, how long has this been going on?" Javy said, collecting the used tissues and quickly disposing them.
Jake furrowed his brow, "Dunno, headache Friday, then slowly got worst, was the worst today, thought I'd be better by today, swear," Jake muttered.
"Okay, kid, where's your thermometer? Did you drink something?"
"Don't have a thermometer, drank some day cold/flu pill things, didn't know they made day and night pills," Jake said flopping back down in bed.
"Did you eat?" Javy asked.
"Don't want to, not hungry," Jake said, turning away from them in bed.
"Well you got to, buddy, I brought some soup, Ice made, it's some bone broth," Mav said laying a gentle hand on Jake's shoulder trying to coax him to turn back.
"No, tired," Jake whined.
"Jacob, come on, dude, you gotta eat," Javy said rolling his eyes.
"Javy," Mav said evenly, "Why don't you heat up the broth, I'll take care of him here in the meantime, just microwave it."
"Okay, Mav, you deal with grumpy over here," Javy said patting Jake's head before leaving, easily dodging a clumsy swat that headed his way.
Mav chuckled at his boys before moving closer to Jake, "Okay, Jake, you have to sit up, don't know how you can breathe, lying straight down."
"It's not comfy sitting up," Jake muttered.
"You'll be able to breathe, and I'll make it comfy, buddy, just wait a bit." Mav said dashing to the living room to grab some couch cushions. "Okay, buddy, help me out here, just get up for a bit."
Jake grumbled, but complied, slowly sitting up, and Mav immediately placed the cushion behind the boy, helping him settle in and tucking the blanket back up high on his shoulders. Mav placed the back of his hand on the boy's cheek, frowning at the heat emanating from it.
"Where's your bathroom, buddy?" Mav asked and Jake pointed at the door across the bed.
Mav quickly went inside, and found a small, clean, towel which he immediately drenched with cool water, and wringed it out. He sat back down on the edge of the bed, where Jake was staring back at him, eyes half-closed.
"Just need to cool you off a bit, okay?" Mav smiled gently running a hand through Jake's hair and Jake nodded a bit.
Mav started gently wiping Jake's face with the damp towel, continuing down to his neck, leaving the towel to rest there. Mav ran a hand through Jake's hair and kept at it before Javy came in 5 seconds later with the soup.
"Food's here, buddy," Mav said, scooting beside Jake, to help prop him up more, with an arm behind the boy's shoulders.
Javy went to Jake's other side and held up a spoonful of soup to Jake's lips, quieting Jake's potential protests with a raised brow. Jake grumbled as he sipped the broth, resting his head on Mav's shoulder every now and then. Javy feeding Jake a spoonful of broth at a time until the bowl was empty.
"Want some more, buddy?" Javy asked, and Jake shook his head no, hiding his face in Mav's shoulder, making Mav chuckle and run a hand through the back of the boy's hair.
"How about a water to wash it all down, then, son?" Mav asked as Javy handed him a water bottle, already cracked open for his brother.
Jake looked up, as Mav brought the bottle up to his lips, making sure that Jake won't choke as he drank his fill, before turning his head away indicating that he was done. Resting his head back on Mav's shoulder, eyes closed.
Mav looked up to see Javy frowning in concern, his forehead scrunched up in worry.
"He'll be okay, Javy," Mav said evenly.
"He didn't tell me," Javy muttered.
"Stubborn." Mav said beckoning Javy to come closer. "But he was able to let his walls down because of you."
Javy walked over to Mav's other side, where Mav immediately tugged Javy down, making Javy yelp as he bent over as Mav hooked his other arm around Javy's shoulders to bring the boy down to kiss him in the temple. Letting him go to stand up straight, but not letting go of his hand.
Mav smiled up at the boy's shocked expression, "You're a good big brother, son." Enjoying as Javy's faced flushed.
---
Mav bundles both of them back to his and Iceman's house for some (a lot of) TLC.
Phoenix visits Hangman's apartment after they left, calling Javy in worry as Hangman isn't answering the door. Driving quickly to Mav's house once she found out where they were.
Most of the Dagger Squad visits.
Jake is back in the air in a few days.

Seven(ish) Sentence Sunday ✍️
Tagged by @missmagooglie
I’ve been tippy tap typing away at various different scenes for Chapter 9 of Rival Firefighters 🚒. A few sentences here, a couple of hundred words there … trying to just go with the flow and let the words happen.
Todays snippet is a direct continuation on from this one. (Also I changed it from two days after the tsunami to one. So not the very next day, but the one after that. So Buck’s only had around 24 hrs to spiral instead of 48 … which is probably a good thing 😅)
Eddie had messaged him yesterday, updating him on Chris’s well-being and the results of his doctor & therapist appointments, and while Buck appreciates that Eddie did that (Buck hadn’t been able to feel a single drop of ease until Eddie’s first message that Chris’s doctor gave him the all clear), he doesn’t understand why.
Why was Eddie keeping him informed about Chris? Shouldn’t he be deleting Buck’s number and telling him that Buck is never to see Chris again? That their friendship is done and the only relationship they’ll have is at work? Until even that falls apart, Buck’s mere presence becoming too much for Eddie - a constant reminder that he almost lost Chris. That Buck put Chris in danger and almost got him killed.
Eddie had tried to call him last night, but Buck had ignored each attempt, unable to bring himself to answer and hear Eddie say everything he’s already said to himself for the past 24 hours. He knows he’s only delaying the inevitable, but he just can’t do it. Answering the phone mean’s saying goodbye and Buck never wants to say goodbye to Eddie. To Chris. They’re his family and he doesn’t want to lose them, even though he knows he already has.
Buck drops his head into his hands, ready to give in to the sea of despair and loss that beckons him to dive into its depth and drown, when there’s a knock at the door. With a weary sigh he gets to his feet, goes to the door and opens it. The sight of Eddie and Christopher standing on the other side is not one he was expecting to see today, or ever again.
Christopher smiles at him as he moves forward, leaning into Buck for a hug. “Hey, Buck.”
It’s a bit awkward, mainly because Buck’s brain is still trying to process the fact that they’re here and so he just kind of stands there, one hand still on the door and the other hanging by his side.
“Good morning, Buck.” Eddie says as he moves past them into the apartment.
Buck’s brain finally comes back online enough for him to wrap his arm around Chris loosely in a small return hug, afraid to hold on too tightly. Chris may not have sustained a lot of injuries in the tsunami, but Buck doesn’t want to accidentally hurt him. He’s done enough damage already.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
✶ pairing: idol!taehyun x non idol! chubby reader
✶ summary: taehyun's coming to stay with you for the week and you feel it's time for a big change. but you don't realize it's an unneeded change until it's too late
✶ genres: angst, hurt/comfort with lots of smut at the end (as a treat!)
✶ warnings: reader has a bad relationship with food, intrusive thoughts, bulimia, negative self talk, brief mention of vomiting, mentions of weight, eating disorders, negative body image, praise kink, squirting, edging, face sitting, unprotected sex
✶ word count: 4.7k words
✶ a/n: i've noticed a general lack of chubby reader fics so i thought i'd do my part and write a hurt/comfort fic involving tyun ^_^ this was very comforting for me to write personally, but if any of the aforementioned warnings are triggering to you in any way, i don't recommend reading. i don't want any of you to get hurt or apply the very harmful things the reader does in this fic to your lives.
this fic is NOT endorsing disordered eating. i do not endorse nor support thinspo, body shaming, eating disorders, or hating your body, no matter your size. as a plus size person myself, i think it's important to love your body as it is and i hope this fic provides solace and comfort to those who have a bad relationship with food or their bodies. you're beautiful the way you are and i hope you're able to love your body the way taehyun loves your body in this fic <3
love you lots 🫶🏾 if you need anyone to talk to about this subject matter, my inbox and messages are always open x
Tumblr media
It's a slow work day; slow, boring, and tedious.
And you're starving.
You forgot to bring your lunch with you so your measly meal of a granola bar and black coffee was nothing to write home about. You can't wait to get home and eat some real food while facetiming your lovely boyfriend.
On the way to your apartment complex, you see a gift shop with a TV playing compilations of idol dance challenges from Tiktok from the display window. You decided to stop and watch for a bit once you recognized one of the Taehyun's fellow group members. Sure enough, the next video that plays is one with Taehyun in it.
Oh, he looks so good. He's doing some kind of girl group dance with a couple of the group's members. The girls are dressed so cutely with perfectly manicured hair and nails and makeup. There's a voice in the back of your head that's saying things you don't want to hear, so you ignore it.
But with every step closer to your apartment, the voice grows louder and louder.
They look so much better with him than you ever could.
They're prettier and skinnier than you. You don't think you actually deserve him, do you?
He's probably cheating on you with one of those girls. Who could blame him? He's too good for you, you both know that.
There's a bad taste in your mouth by the time you get to your front door. Despite your brain doing everything it can to ruin your day, you decide to rummage through the fridge for some food anyway.
You're pretty good at keeping the fridge stocked when Taehyun isn't around, but as soon as you start assessing your options, your appetite starts to wane. You think back to those gorgeous female idols you saw on television, with their glamorous bodies.
Slender waists, rounded hips, lithe arms and legs, dainty hands, and long, silky hair.
You don’t look like that, you know you don’t.
But maybe you could if you tried a little harder.
Your phone ringing snaps you out of your spiraling thoughts. Seeing Taehyun on your phone screen immediately eases your pain.
"I saw you on TV today," you say.
"Oh yeah? Was I cool?"
"You were the coolest," you say with a smile.
"Did you eat?" he asks and your throat goes dry.
"Yeah, I went out to get something before I got home. Did you?"
"Mhm, I just got done eating dinner."
Taehyun looks a little antsy, like he wants to say something so you call him out on it.
"Everything okay?" you ask.
"Yeah, it's- Okay, I wanted to surprise you, but I can't keep it in. I finally have a break in my schedule so I'll be home all week starting next Sunday,"
"What? Baby, that's great news! I can't wait to finally see you. It's been too long! I mean, I know it's only been a week since we saw each other, but still!"
By the time you hang up, your heart is soaring. You get to stay with your boyfriend for a whole week! What sounds basic to some sounds like paradise to others, truly. The life of dating an idol is a very different world, to say the least.
You looked down at your stomach and frowned as you squeezed its flesh. You've put on some stress weight, no doubt about it. What would Taehyun think? Yes, you were chubby when he first met you and you're chubby now, but there's no doubt he would notice the weight you've put on recently.
He's going to be home in less than a week. What if he realizes he deserves better and he's been settling for you this whole time? Taehyun is a celebrity, he could have anyone he wants. So why you, of all people? You both know he could never go public with his relationship with you for privacy reasons, but maybe it wasn't just that.
Maybe he was ashamed to be seen with you.
As you go to bed later that night with an empty stomach, you recognize that something has to change.
So when the next morning comes, you decide to start with eating less and walking to work instead of taking public transit. You learned to appreciate the four mile walk there and back every day to appreciate the morning dew and the passing scenery as you listened to your favorite songs.
But it wasn’t enough. You weren’t losing weight quickly enough and the ideal version of yourself who lived in your head wasn’t matching your reflection in the mirror.
So you start going running every day after work. You run a couple of laps on the track at the community center near your workplace. You feel energized after working out so much, but damn, you're hungry. No matter how much your stomach growls, you wave off the voice telling you to eat and drink some cold water to satiate your hunger instead.
The next thing you know, it's D-Day. Taehyun is coming home tonight and you can't wait. You don't work weekends, but you keep up with your routine regardless. You walk to your workplace and then run your several laps around the track until you've sufficiently tired yourself out.
By the time you get home, you're able to shower, clean the apartment, and relax for a few hours.
You're watching a program about weight loss on your laptop when you get a call from Taehyun and immediately pick up.
“Me and the guys were thinking about getting dinner tonight. Wanna come?”
You're glad he can't see the discomfort on your face.
“No thanks, I’m swamped with work tonight.”
“Are you sure? We’re going to your favorite chicken place.”
“I’m sure, love. Thanks.”
“Okay, let me know if you want anything.”
It hurt a part of your soul to decline going to your favorite restaurant. You swear the savory, sweet and spicy crunch of that hot honey fried chicken had healing properties. But you have bigger things to worry about. You need to stay focused.
You fall asleep on the couch and startle awake when you hear the front door of your apartment clicking open.
“I’m home,” Taehyun calls from the entryway. His voice is followed by the sound of rustling plastic bags. You slide your laptop off your lap and give your boyfriend a quick kiss on the lips.
“Welcome home,” you say, then take a look at the plastic bags Taehyun is carrying in each hand. “What’s all this?”
“Some extras from dinner. I brought some stuff back for you, too.”
Your stomach twists. “Oh, honey you didn’t need to do that.”
“I never believe you when you don’t ask for anything,” he says with a laugh. “Anything you don’t finish you can take to work tomorrow.”
“Thank you,” you smile but you feel like you’re dying inside. Why does he have to be so considerate? As nice as the gesture is, you’re not eating a single bit. You swear to yourself that you won’t.
As delicious as that food looks and smells, successfully resisting temptation feels better than that food could ever taste.
You brush off the gurgling of your stomach as you go through your nighttime ablutions.
It’s 4:00 AM when your cravings become too strong to ignore. The growling of your stomach grows louder, unbearably so.
You turn your head to check on Taehyun, he’s still fast sleep. Maybe this was the perfect time to do what you wanted to do.
You sneak off to the kitchen, grab the cold paper boxes of food and arrange them on your small dining table. Smelling and looking at the food isn’t the same as eating it, you tell yourself. There’s nothing wrong with smelling or observing the food, as long as you don’t eat it.
This should be easy…
Shouldn't it?
Tumblr media
You black out hours later and the first thing you’re faced with is a multitude of empty takeout boxes. Two boxes of fried chicken, a box of garlic fries, steamed rice, and two apple mango hand pies. Foods that are usually your favorites yet all you could do was panic.
You start hyperventilating and your vision blurs as you stumble to the bathroom and kneel in front of the toilet, shoving your index finger down your throat and trying your hardest to remove any of the food you ate. After reaching deep enough, you gag around your finger and vomit, bile stinging your throat and tears filling your eyes. You empty your stomach and vomit until nothing but stomach acid comes up, the metallic taste coating your mouth.
"Y/N?" Taehyun asks from behind the door. "Are you okay?"
A string of drool hangs from your bottom lip and you've never felt more repulsed by yourself until now.
"I'm fine, just a little sick."
"I'm coming in—"
"—No! No, I'm okay. Don't worry about me."
"Are you sure?"
"I'm fine, honey, really. I'll see you later tonight, okay?"
"Okay, see you tonight." You can hear the doubt in his voice. It pains you to lie to him like this, but you know this would upset him. You gather enough strength to drag yourself up from the bathroom floor and start getting ready for work.
That was a close call. There's no way you can let that happen again. The binging, the vomiting, having Taehyun worry about you, any of it. If you were planning on continuing this, you had to be discrete about it, even if it meant lying to your boyfriend's face.
So you decide to stop eating altogether.
And at first, you feel fine.
You're able to get through the work day by chewing gum or drinking cold water to keep yourself awake. When Taehyun comes home with food or cooks for the both of you, you lie and say you already ate at work or you're not hungry.
And you know Taehyun senses that something is wrong, but you can't tell him. You could never tell him.
This wasn't going the way you expected it to.
You wanted to enjoy coming home from work and have Taehyun play your househusband for the week, but by the time you get home every night, you're so exhausted. You fall asleep on the couch, sometimes even mid conversation, and you wake up hours later with a pounding headache and a blanket thrown over you, courtesy of your sweet boyfriend.
And by the end of the week, you hardly have the energy to even stand up in the shower.
"Have a good day at work today," Taehyun says and gives you a kiss on the forehead at the door. That on its own gives you enough energy to make it through today.
You cross the crowded street, feeling normal, albeit a bit tired.
And then, out of nowhere, you feel like someone pulled the plug on you.
The next thing you see is the blurry ceiling of a hospital room, nothing but beige and speckles. You gasp like you’ve just come up for air and look around. You're connected to an IV and a heart rate monitor and, out of the corner of your eyes, you see...
"Y/N!"
Taehyun rushes to your side, taking your hand in his. Your heart is pounding when you see him. He looks so worried. He must've been so afraid for you.
"Y/N, why? Why didn't you tell me something was wrong? Why'd you do this to yourself?" he asks, standing tears in his eyes. Your heart sinks. There's no way he doesn't know how you got here.
This wasn’t supposed to happen.
He wasn't supposed to find out.
You were supposed to silently starve yourself until you became beautiful. Not worry him like this.
You failed. Your throat goes dry, rendering you unable to speak.
You just sit there silently and sob.
Tumblr media
You’re discharged the following afternoon. Taehyun doesn’t speak to you the entire ride home and you feel like utter shit for it.
As you step into your shared apartment and kick off your shoes in the entryway, you decide to finally break the silence.
“Taehyun, I’m so sorry. You weren’t supposed to find out about this—“
“—Why? Why wouldn’t you want me to find out? They told me you passed out in the middle of the street! You could’ve gotten hurt! What if something serious happened to you and I never found out?”
You stand there in silence, tears filling your eyes. He’s never sounded this upset with you in the nearly two years you’ve been together. You could feel your heart shattering.
“Why’d you stop eating?”
The gravity in Taehyun’s voice makes your stomach drop. You need to sit down for this one.
You walk to the couch in the living room and Taehyun follows, sitting next to you.
“I starved myself because I wanted to be beautiful,” you say.
“You are beautiful.”
“But that’s not all. I wanted to be good enough, good enough for you.”
Taehyun looks at you, brows knit in concern. He takes your hand in his.
“What made you think that? Did someone say something to you?”
“No, no one said anything. It was all me. I kept seeing all those beautiful, successful female celebrities on TV and I-I wondered if you even felt good being seen with me, so I thought that… maybe if I stopped eating, I would be better for you.”
You feel so ashamed by even admitting this and, when you’re able to finally look at Taehyun, he looks devastated, like you admitted the greatest of sins to him.
“I never want you to say that again,” he says, sounding deeply hurt. “There’s no way you could be any more better for me. You’re perfect, Y/N. I can’t imagine being with anyone else except you. I've never been ashamed to be seen with you. You know that, don't you?"
Taehyun cups your cheek with his hand and it takes everything for you to not burst into tears.
“Don’t you?” he repeats softly and that drives you over the edge. “You know there’s nothing you could do to make me ashamed of you, right?”
You cry and he wipes your tears away with the pads of his thumbs.
“Not even now?” you ask between sniffles.
“No, honey, not even now,” he leans in and kisses your cheeks. “I don’t want to lose a single ounce of you.”
He kisses your face all over and when he kisses you on the lips, you smile into it. This is the happiest you've been all week and the most relief you've felt in a while. You feel so embarrassed for the tears that continue to slide down your cheeks, but Taehyun just wipes them away and kisses you.
It's when he kisses your ear that you feel a sudden shift in the mood. He nibbles your earlobe and his lips drag down to kiss down your jaw. Your breath hitches and you hold back a moan.
"Don't hold back," he whispers into your ear. "Let me know how good I make you feel."
You sigh as you feel his lips move to your neck and he bites and licks the flesh, leaving a few hickies in his wake. You hold onto him tighter, the fabric of his shirt balled up in your fist.
Taehyun's hands move to your hips and before you know it, you're sitting on his lap, straddling him. You're a little hesitant, not putting all of your weight on him.
Taehyun grabs your hand and places it on the center of his chest. His heart is pounding against your palm and it causes your own heartbeat to quicken.
“Feel that? Only you can do that,” he says. He takes your hand and drags his down his body, down his toned chest, past his chiseled abs, all the way down to his cock, already halfway hard in his sweatpants.
“This is all you, too,” he whispers and your breath catches in your throat when you feel his cock twitch under your fingers.
“Oh my god…” you say, shuddered and breathless.
Taehyun grips your hips hard and pulls you down so your full weight is on him and you grind on his clothed bulge. He's never been this rough with you before, and it's giving you butterflies. You roll your hips and you revel in his hands roaming your thighs, your ass, and your waist.
You return to each other's lips like a magnet to metal. You drag your tongue across Taehyun's bottom lip and he parts his lips so you can slot your tongue into his mouth.
You pull away panting, your lips shimmering with spit. You squirm, wanting to say exactly how you feel but the words are stuck in your throat as you look upon your boyfriend, his hair tousled, lips glossy, and eyes dark.
"What is it, honey? Use your words," he says, looking deep into your eyes.
"I-I need you so badly, I can’t take it."
"Then let's tend to that need right now," he says with a smirk. You head to the bedroom and you're surprised when Taehyun pushes you onto the bed and hovers over you, drinking in every inch of your body.
"God, you're so beautiful," Taehyun says. "No one else gets to see this except me."
He peels off his clothes, down to his boxers and he slowly undresses you, peppering kisses all over your body. He presses a thumb to your now dampened panties and watches with sparkling eyes as he rolls your panties off of you.
"Wait, my turn," you grab at the waistband of his boxers and the corner of his lips turn up into a smirk.
"Be my guest," he says confidently. Your hands tremble a little bit as look down at his clothed cock. You notice a damp spot and that only serves to make you wetter. You slowly pull the boxers down past his thighs and his hardened cock springs free. He kicks his boxers off and immediately comes back down to the bed to kiss you, his cock resting against your soft stomach.
He slides his thick cock against your aching pussy and you shudder when you feel a vein rub against your clit.
“You’re so wet,” he whispers sweetly. “Can’t wait to be inside of you, honey... But before that, I need you to promise me something."
"Hm?"
"Promise me that you'll eat when you're hungry and take care of yourself."
You blink, confused at the sudden 180.
"What?" you ask. Suddenly, you're jolted by Taehyun slapping his cock against your clit with a wet thwack. Your back arches off the bed and your eyes widen.
“Promise me or I won’t fuck you.”
You gulp and you can feel yourself blushing all the way to the tips of your ears.
“I-I promise,” you say before Taehyun slaps his cock against your clit repeatedly, causing you to squirm and moan.
“Promise what?”
“I-I promise I’ll eat.”
“And?”
“I promise I’ll take care of myself,” you whimper. "I promise I'll treat myself better."
Taehyun gives you a cute, boyish smile.
"Good," he leans down to rest his forehead against yours and kiss you. You feel the head of his cock poke and rub against your entrance and you whine. He pushes into you and you gasp, grabbing onto his arms to steady yourself as he slowly enters you, inch by inch. You clench around him tightly and he sighs.
"You feel amazing," he groans. "You okay?"
"Mhm, feels so **good," you moan and Taehyun leans down to kiss you again. He buries himself deeper into you until he bottoms out and you wrap your legs around his torso, shuddering at the sensation of him buried so deep inside of you. He pulls out all the way then sinks all the way back in to fuck you at a fast, even pace. Your eyes roll back in pleasure, relishing just how full he makes you feel.
"Mmm, I-I'm close, 'm so close," you mewl, clenching hard around Taehyun's cock.
“Cum for me,” he breathily demands as he reaches down to play with your clit, pleasure shooting through your body like lightning.
Your orgasm rips through you like nothing you'd ever felt before. Taehyun is relentless, continuing to fuck you as you ride the waves of your orgasm.
"That's it, that's it," he coos. "So good, baby." He swipes his thumb against your clit quickly as he thrusts into you, urging you to cum again. You feel a different kind of pressure building in your lower stomach, one that you can't stop from releasing until it's already happened. The sheets underneath you are soaked and your entire body heats up as you realized what you've done.
"Wow," Taehyun says, astonished. "I've never seen you do that before. Fuck, you're so wet."
He mercilessly pistons in and out of you, sweet moans spilling from his mouth as he cums inside of you. He buries his face in your shoulder and you can feel his lips curl into a smile.
“Hear that?” he asks.
Through the haze of your post-orgasm, you can hear the sound of wet skin slapping against skin as Taehyun lazily ruts into you, rolling his hips against yours.
“So messy… you made such a big mess all over my cock,” he babbles, breathless and impressed. You’re shocked to feel his cock twitch inside of you when he says that.
Taehyun slowly pulls out of you and you whine, already missing the presence of his cock inside of you. He rolls over next to you so that you’re laying shoulder to shoulder on the bed.
You both take a moment to catch your breath, your breathing still ragged from just moments ago.
“Come here,” he says. “I want you to do that on my face next.”
“Taehyun!” you gasp. You don’t remember him being so filthy like this before. He’s had his flirty and handsy moments in the past, but those were nothing compared to this side of him.
He motions for you to come straddle him and you’re immediately seized with nervousness.
“Don’t be shy, love,” he says. “Or do I need to get you over here myself?”
“Okay, okay,” you prop yourself up on your elbows and slowly inch yourself closer toward Taehyun until you’re straddling his waist.
“Good girl, now put your thighs on either side of my chest.”
This is the first time he’s ever called you a good girl and honestly? You want him to say it a million more times. A tingle goes down your spine as you follow his instructions, maybe he should boss you around like this more often.
You feel more exposed than ever as you just barely hover over his face. You’ve never done anything in this position before, your heart is racing out of excitement and worry.
“Are you sure you’re okay with doing this?”
“Mhm,” Taehyun says. “I’ve been dreaming of doing this for a while now, actually.”
“But what if I hurt you? I don’t wanna put too much weight on you and—“
“—Y/N, you’re thinking too hard about this.”
“I know,” you say. You squeak when you feel Taehyun press a kiss to your pussy.
“Trust me,” he says softly and your heart melts. He reaches a hand up to play with your pussy, fingers gliding around your folds. “I wish you could see this. Everything about you is so pretty, Y/N.”
You could say the same thing about him. There’s something about seeing Taehyun lie there on his back, dark brown hair sticking to his forehead and his big, brown eyes made darker by his dilated pupils that made him look angelic.
“Lower yourself down on my face, good girl.”
Again with the good girl. Does he know he can make you do anything just by calling you that?
You take a deep breath and lower yourself down onto his face and your breathing becomes ragged the moment you feel the flat of his tongue against your pussy.
His hands come up to grip your thighs and hips. You bite your bottom lip to contain your moans as Taehyun goes to work on your pussy, tongue sliding in and around your folds and the ridge of his nose bumping against your clit. It feels so good, better than you ever could have imagined.
You feel his tongue slide into your pussy and your hands fly to the headboard, gripping tightly as you gasp and moan.
“Fuck, Taehyun…!” you exclaim. He moans against your pussy and the vibrations push you closer to the edge. As he makes out with your pussy from this position, it’s so impossible to hold back. You carefully grind yourself against his tongue and before you know it, you’re seeing stars as your back arches and you cum hard, thighs trembling and hips rocking back and forth at a steady rhythm as you ride out your orgasm.
“S-Sorry!” you stammer as you lift your hips to allow Taehyun to come up for air, but you’re shocked when he pulls your hips back down and gives your core a few long licks and swirls his tongue around your clit. Your thighs clench and you whimper from the overstimulation. When he finally taps your thighs to indicate that he’s done, you pull off of him, straddling his waist.
“You taste so fucking good, my love,” he mumbles, chest heaving as he looks at you with half lidded eyes and the bottom half of his face wet and shimmering from your juices. He looks so fucked out, like he was the one who was just eaten out like a man starved. “You put every fruit on this planet to shame.”
"Stop, you're making me blush," you say with a shy chuckle.
"Don't get shy now, you were just riding my face a few second ago." You both laugh and Taehyun sits up and rests his hands on your soft waist. He gives you the softest smile and looking up at you with those beautiful brown eyes and that's when it hits you.
You love this man, much more than words could ever describe.
You wrap your arms around his neck and bury your face in the crook of his neck.
"I love you," Taehyun whispers into your skin and holds you tighter. You melt into his embrace, never wanting to leave from his arms or this moment. You wish you could live in his arms.
It's not until both you and Taehyun's stomachs start growling that the moment is ruined. You pull away from the embrace and look at each other with wide eyes and erupt into laughter.
"Guess we should get something to eat, huh?" Taehyun asks.
"Yeah, I guess so," you say, still giggling.
"Why don't I go run us a bath and you order our meal for tonight?"
"Sounds good to me."
You part with a kiss and, even though he's just in the next room over, you're so overcome with love for him. You get teary eyed as you browse your go-to delivery app.
In that moment, you're so thankful for his love, thankful you have each other.

hi! are you planning to write more of de-aged max bc he is just so cute it’s giving me a heart attack. saw a tiktok the other day w photos of baby max and all i could think about was this verse!!!!! ahhh lysm
Thank you!!! Here is a little bit more, in honour of grown up Max's adventures with colouring in.
(Hopefully this link shows the stuff I’ve already posted in chronological order. But anyway, this bit follows directly on from this part.)
It has been five full days since a seven year old Max showed up at Daniel's door in too-big clothes and holding out a little card with Daniel's name carefully printed on it in grown up Max's blocky handwriting. Baby Max shows no signs of going big again. He follows Daniel around his apartment, looks at his flag book, and plays with the Jimmy or Sassy cats — no further narrowing down of cat identity has occurred, due to Daniel having little to no interest in identifying cat penises, and grown up Max's complete fucking inability to put his fucking cat names on a fucking collar, or, indeed, to have informed Daniel of his Go Small plans at any point in the past three fucking years, but that's fine, Daniel is fine with this responsibility. Max has wet the bed every night and Daniel is just having to cross his fingers that he's not making everything worse by each and every decision he makes.
Anyway: if grown up Max doesn't show up again extremely soon, Daniel's going to have to bite the bullet and call Christian and tell him Max isn't going to be able to race. Max will hate that when he's back, if Daniel brakes too soon and makes the call, and more than that, it's going to turn baby Max into a Thing, and if there's one thing Daniel has learned in the last five days, it's that Max one hundred percent does not want to be a thing of any kind.
So, it's time for Emergency Measures. Maybe what will kickstart baby Max back into adulthood in time for his next race will be a race track, and go-karting. Daniel takes advantage of Max being distracted by his coloured pencils in the living room to google nearby karting tracks, and sends the nearest one a message to see if he could book out the whole track for a private session. The answer comes back with an immediate yes, which is probably in some part due to the figure Daniel had dropped in his message about how much he's willing to pay for the privilege.
He leans against the doorframe into the living room. Max is concentrating very closely on his colouring book, his coloured pencils all out on the coffee table. A little something in Daniel's chest shifts a bit.
"Maxy-Max," Daniel says, half way through his email response to the karting track. "Would you like to go karting tomorrow?"
There is a pause. "No, thank you, Daniel." Max does not look up from his colouring book, nor does he stop colouring.
Daniel also pauses. Max's little fingers hold onto his pencil tighter. He's pressing down hard on the picture.
"Okay," Daniel says. "Would you like to go another day, if we don't go tomorrow?"
"No, thank you, Daniel," Max says again. He still doesn't look up. His pencil might tear through the paper soon.
Daniel's been reading up on Going Small. Well, googling randomly when he can't sleep. Most people tend to think about Going Small as a way of connecting with your kid self, like… remembering who you once were in case maybe you wanted to stop being such a cunt or that you always wanted to sew clothes or build bridges and maybe your hedge fund job isn't as fulfilling as you maybe thought it was. Some people say it's as much for the people around you as it is about you, but whatever. Daniel had had a great fucking time in the pit lane six years ago, he remembers that much, although the detail has always been fuzzy. Like it happened a very long time ago. But there's another school of thought, one about the kids that don't age back up after a day or a couple of days, the kids who maybe lost a part of their childhood the first time around. Daniel's never met anyone who stayed small longer than a couple of days though, and it's so rare that the theory could be complete bollocks, and no one would ever know anyway. You can't battle data against the universe, it's not like race strategy. There's no science to it.
Max continues not to look at him. He's colouring the same line over and over again.
Daniel closes his email app, and slips his phone into his pocket. "Can I come and colour with you?"
Max nods, but doesn't look up. His fingertips are white around his pencil. He's used it down to the nub so that it's almost too blunt to colour with.
Daniel tries to sit down on Max's right side, but Max shakes his head and makes him come and sit on his left. Daniel positions himself cross-legged by the coffee table and it becomes clear just why Max wanted him this side when, a moment later, Max's little hand slips into Daniel's bigger one. Daniel does not now have a hand to colour with, but maybe it doesn't matter, because Max is colouring with enough concentration for the two of them, a big picture of a train with a cat sitting in the window next to the driver. He's being very careful. He still doesn't look up.
One of the Jimmy or Sassys wanders over to curl up by Max's little Pikachu-socked foot. The other one, the one who doesn't like being petted as much and prefers to watch you in a creepy and furry way while you're doing perfectly normal things sitting on the toilet or in the shower, perches on top of Daniel's shelves and stares at them.
Max's grip on his pencil loosens a little. Daniel leans over and kisses the top of his head. "You're very good at colouring," he tells Max. "We can cut out ones you've finished and put them up on the wall, if you'd like."
Max looks at him then, his eyes big and wide. "My pictures?"
"Your pictures," Daniel agrees. He reaches for the Pikachu pencil sharpener in the middle of the table. "Can I sharpen your pencil for you?"
Max dutifully hands him his blue pencil. His eyes are still shining, even though Daniel's had to stop holding his hand so that he can sharpen it for him. When he hands it back, all sharp, Max tucks his hand into Daniel's again.
"You've done some good colouring in of this train," Daniel says. "Have you been on a train, Maxy-Max?"
Max shakes his head.
"Would you like to go on one?"
Max's eyes widen. "A train?"
"Yeah," Daniel nods. "If you'd like, we can go and find a train to go on tomorrow. If you want to. We can take Pikachu."
"But not the Jimmy or Sassys," Max says, frowning. "They would not like the train and they might get lost."
"No," Daniel agrees. "The Jimmy or Sassy cats can stay here."
"There is a cat in my train picture but it is not our cats."
"No," Daniel says. "So, should we go on a train tomorrow?"
"Yes, please, Daniel," Max says, in satisfaction.
Daniel watches him colour even as he's avoiding texting Christian to let him know Max has gone small and isn't getting big again. He follows up on his avoidance by ordering a night light for Max's bedroom and one for the bathroom, in case his little boy is frightened of the dark and is too scared to say. He pays extra for same-day delivery.
He'll call Christian later, when Max is in bed. Instead, he googles train stations, and train timetables, and puts together a plan for the morning.
Max keeps his hand tucked into Daniel's, carries on colouring, and doesn't let go.
Thank you so much to Zoe @flawlessassholes for giving this a pre-post read through, and for consistently being interested in all baby Max lore!

Bullying-ish and just lack of support? Anxiety. Age gap! Reader is in her mid 20's, Pedro is current age (48).

Miss Track 9? Here!
Hi!!!! Once again I want to apologize for taking so long with this. I can't seem to ever stay awake to do anything. That being said, here it is! This is the last main chapter of our little lovebirds. There will be at least one, likely two bonus tracks coming soon though :) Also there's a smidge of Spanish in here from Pedro, but the translation is included in the end of the sentence. I took some Spanish classes back in the day but I don't speak it and had to use Google translate. So if it ISN'T right and you do speak Spanish, please let me know lol. Anyway, I hope you enjoy these little cuties on their first date. There's a lot, a lot, a lot of kissing in here (sorry...) and overall they're just grossly in love lol. Please let me know what you think, and if you've seriously read this far, I LOVE YOU! This is my first series, and honestly my first fic other than the one I wrote in my diary lmao. Like the reader, I am incredibly inexperienced so writing a relationship has been a bit of a challenge and half the time I don't believe the actual words I'm writing. But I really only started writing it as a way to write down my daydreams :) So to have support means the world to me, and hearing people comment/DM me saying how much they relate has meant so much and makes me feel a lot less alone, because ultimately, it doesn't matter how fictional it is, most of reader's feelings are my own. To anyone else in the same boat, I get you! Hang in there. I think there's a Pedro out there for us all. Someday. Anywho, pardon my ramble. Thank you for reading, I hope you like it. ❤

The next morning, you woke up and stretched your limbs, rolling over in your comfortable bed as the sunshine poured in through the window. At the shuffling of your body, Skipper groaned, wiggling a little in bed, nearly shoving you off the edge. You reached for your phone, blinking through your sleep a couple times before seeing a text from Pedro. “Good morning beautiful! I can't wait for our date today. I was thinking maybe we could start around 2:30 and spend the day together, if you'd like. But if that's too much, we can just make it a dinner date. Up to you which you would prefer. I understand either way. Love you ❤️”
He wants to spend the whole day with me!? And he sent me a good morning text and called me beautiful? Then signed it with a heart and love you?!!!! How did I get this man?
Your grin eclipsed your face, making you squint. If Mr. Grumpybutt weren't sharing the bed with you, you'd probably squeal and kick your feet. Tapping your phone screen, you typed out a reply. “Morning handsome ❤️ I would love nothing more than to spend the day with you. I love you too!” You sent the message before crawling out of bed gently, receiving a dirty look from Skip.
“Alright Grump. Go back to bed. Geez,” you laughed. If looks could kill, you thought. He turned back on his side, letting out a grumble and sigh, resulting in a laugh from you. Acts like he pays rent and works 40 hours a week…
You took a relaxing shower, making sure to be all nice and fresh for your date with the man of your dreams. While brushing your teeth, you noticed he had replied. “Great, I can't wait. I'll be at your place at 2:30. :)”
“Can't wait to see you. What do you have planned? I'm wondering how to dress.”
“Wear whatever you feel good in, baby. I'm sure you'll look amazing. Probably something casual you can walk around comfortably in for the day. Maybe something a little dressier for the evening, but you don't need to carry it around. We will make a stop at your place before and you can change”
Wow he really has this planned out.
“What have you got planned, P? This sounds elaborate. You know you don't need to put in all that effort, I'm already yours ❤️”
“You deserve the world, my love.”

Dressed in a pair of leggings and a light sweater, you felt reasonably cute while still being comfortable for whatever activity Pedro had in mind. Plus, with the crisp November air, you would be nice and warm. You were just finishing tying your sneakers when your doorbell rang.
You opened the door to find your handsome boyfriend standing on your step, a bouquet of red roses in his hand. “Mi amor,” he handed you the roses, kissing your cheek and hand. “Thank you Pedro,” your cheeks heated. “Come in,” you pulled his hand across the doorway towards the living room. Skipper pushed past you to investigate, causing Pedro to drop your hand.
“Well there he is! That handsome boy!” Skipper’s tail wagged and his butt wiggled as Pedro crouched to give ear scratches. “Oh, I love you too,” Pedro answered when Skip kissed his face frantically. A fit of giggles erupted from Pedro, making your heart swell with joy. He has the cutest laugh, and the fact that your dog is causing it was surreal.
“You're just a beautiful boy! Aren't you?! Hermoso, igual que tu mamá,” he held Skipper’s face, kissing his nose. (Beautiful, just like your mama)
Your chest was filled with butterflies. Holy shit, he's charming. “Thank you, Pedro,” you said in a whisper, not even sure if he would hear. Turning his head from your dog, Pedro looked up at you, giving you a gentle smile; but the eye contact was quickly torn away when Skipper pressed a needy paw to Pedro's chest. Both of you now giggling, Pedro continued to pet Skipper, stopping to give him a hug and some more nose kisses.
“Alright. I gotta ask…” you prompted, causing Pedro to turn his head towards you again. “Are you just dating me to hang out with my dog?” You smirked.
Pedro turned back to Skipper, speaking in a low voice. “She's catching on to us buddy. We've been made.” You burst out laughing, Skipper looking over at you as if his plan really had been foiled.
Pedro gave a final pat on Skipper’s head before standing and walking over to you. “Nonsense,” he pecked a kiss to your lips. “I do love that sweet boy of yours,” he replied before turning his face to whisper in your ear. “But I'm absolutely enamored with you, Mamacita.” The hair on your neck stood as a chill rushed down your spine. You bit your lower lip, and he stared back into your eyes, leaning in for a passionate kiss.
“You look beautiful,” he tucked your hair behind your ear.
“You look rather handsome, yourself,” you replied. His hair was brushed back and to the side, his curls neatly swept and threatening to break free around his face. You wondered whether he asked for help to make his hair look extra nice for your date or if he styled it himself.
Running your fingertips over his patched salt and pepper beard, your hands found the small heart shaped patches near his chin. You brushed your thumb over his jaw before leaning in to press a kiss on the bare skin, causing his eyes to close as he let out a sigh. The whiskers tickled your cheeks as you continued kissing up his jawline, back across his cheek, and on his nose before pulling away to look into his eyes.
He opted to not wear glasses today, allowing you a closer look into his deep brown eyes which were softening under your gaze. “You ready to go, baby?” He asked you, his hand on your hip as he rubbed circles with his thumb.
“Absolutely,” you smiled. He wore a pair of dark jeans, tennis shoes, and a white button up shirt with the sleeves rolled to his forearm. He looked absolutely… incredible.
While you were grabbing your bag, he grabbed Skipper's leash. “Is Skipper coming too?” You asked, confused.
Skipper was twirling now, impatient to go somewhere.
“Sure is! Couldn't leave him out. But don't worry, you and I will have the night to ourselves,” he winked.
You looked downward, feeling shy and flushed. “Okay,” you giggled, clipping Skip to his leash and heading for the door.
“Do you want to take my car? You'll get dog hair and slobber in yours,” you offer.
“I don't mind! I love dogs,” Pedro replied, opening the door for Skipper to climb in the back seat. After closing the door, he opened the passenger door for you. Such a gentleman, you thought with a sigh, getting in and thanking him.
As the car sped along, you looked over at your boyfriend driving the car. Boyfriend! That'll never get old… you thought to yourself. The air conditioning blew the few loose strands of hair on the top of his head, and his left hand gripped the wheel, making the veins on his hand prominent. With his right hand, he reached over, holding your left in his, resting on top of your thigh.
He really did look beautiful. You couldn't help but stare at him as he expertly drove the car, hand flexing as he turned the wheel. His mouth pursed and he licked his lips, his tongue slowly jutting out to wet them.
Damn, I want those lips on mine. That tongue in my mouth, you thought, feeling rather warm, despite the air conditioning swirling around the car.
“So where are we spending the day?” You asked, trying to quiet the flames of attraction licking at your pulse.
“It's a surprise! But we're almost there,” he answered, rubbing his thumb over the top of your hand.
Pedro looked in the side mirror and laughed. “Babe, look at Skipper.”
You looked to see him with his head out the window, ears and lips blown back with the wind, his tongue lolled out to the side and blowing with the speed of the vehicle.
You both chuckled before you warned him, “your car is going to be covered in slobbers, Pedro!” He gave another quick look to Skipper before replying. “That's okay. It'll help me remember this day until I wash it again,” he looked over at you and smiled. It felt so natural. So… domestic, the two of you sitting in the car, going on a date, him holding your hand while driving, and the two of you laughing at your dog in the back seat. It was just perfect. Everything you dreamed.
Tumblr media
He wasn't joking when he said you were almost there. It was only about five more minutes until the car pulled into the parking lot of the dog-friendly beach.
Stepping out of the vehicle, you took a deep breath, inhaling the familiar smell of salty sea air and hearing the chatter of gulls. The breeze blew your hair gently, but the day was relatively warm for November.
After the three of you exited the car, Pedro opened the trunk, pulling out a large picnic basket and tote bag. “You really came prepared, didn't you? Pedro, this is really special. Thank you.” Your eyes felt teary and the smile you held was genuine. Nobody has ever put this much effort into anything for you. Other than him.
“You don't need to thank me. I want you to be happy and I want the three of us to have a nice day,” he added, pecking your lips.
“Wait.. Pedro,” you frowned. “It looks kind of crowded. Should I be nervous about paparazzi or anything?” Your stomach bubbled with nervous energy.
“Don't worry, sweetheart. Celebs come here all the time. I've come here before. If they do, they might take pictures, but usually it's pretty low-key here. Try not to worry too much. I want you to have a nice time,” he squeezed your hand affectionately.
“Okay. I trust you,” you smiled at him as the three of you walked towards the sand, finding a nice place to picnic. Pedro unpacked, laying down a large blanket before setting up the spread of sandwiches, veggies, and fruit. He offered you a cold drink from the basket and the two of you sat, using a metal stake to secure Skipper’s leash near your blanket. He flopped onto his side, content to be sunbathing with some of his favorite people.
The lunch consisted of peaceful conversations and laughter, learning more about each other despite having talked for several months now. It seemed you could never run out of conversation topics. But even in the quiet moments, it wasn't uncomfortable. It felt relaxing. You were both content being able to sit together in silence and just enjoy each other's company.
After your meal, you packed up the basket and headed for the car again to put the things away, opting for a walk unburdened by carrying items across the sand. Neither of you brought a swimsuit today, but despite the California sun, it was still November, and the Pacific ocean was never really warm, even in the middle of summer. That didn't seem to bother Skipper very much though. As the two of you walked hand in hand near the water, barefoot in the wet sand, he ran laps around Pedro holding him on the leash, occasionally splashing through the shallow water before joining close by his family again.
He would definitely need a bath later, but you didn't mind. He was happy splashing around, having a great day. You were happy walking with the man of your dreams, fingers intertwined together. Everything felt right. You weren't even nervous, despite the way Pedro looked like the most handsome man you've ever seen, or the fact that he was famous, and that you occasionally received stares from other beach goers. Instead of the usual first-date nerves people get, you just felt love.
“So,” he started excitedly, “Obviously I have most of this date planned, but I also wanted to check in with you and see if you had anything particular in mind that you wanted to do together.”
You thought for a second, letting a memory burn into your thoughts. “Well,” you began, "I don't want to sound like a total creepy fan or anything...” you added, cautiously. You kinda were, with all the photos of him you had saved on your phone (prior to deleting them before your first meeting in person). But that's not important right now, and he probably doesn't need to know that. Maybe it can be a funny story later.
Pedro laughed, that cute little wheezy laugh he does with his giant smile that makes your stomach do somersaults. Those same somersaults you've been getting since you first saw that smile on the screen and knew you were absolutely screwed until you got over this crush. Or, unexpectedly, when you walked hand-in-hand with him, like you were now.
“But…?” he pondered, looking down at you sideways, with a playful smirk and those big brown eyes that could make you lose your mind. They absolutely glittered in the sunlight right now, reflecting all the joy and love he felt for you.
“Okay maybe I'm a little creepy…” you nudged him with your side, still gripping his hand in yours as the two of you walked peacefully. The beach was crowded, but you and him, and Skipper, were the only ones here as far as either of you were concerned. There could be a loud scream and it wouldn't compare to the squealing in your mind. A firework show would simply feel like a projection of your sparks. A tornado couldn't sweep you off your feet as well as he could.
“Is this where you tell me you've been watching me sleep through my window for the past three years or something?” He raised an eyebrow, playful smile still on his face as he licked his lips.
“What?” You squeaked, laughing. “No. I mean… I did have some pictures saved of you, and have maybe read a fictional story or two about you and your characters…” or a few thousand, you thought.
You cringed. Why the fuck did I say that out loud?!
Your cheeks felt hot and you diverted your eyes away from the man beside you, a nervous grimace painted across your mouth. He barked out a laugh, pulling you into his side for a hug. “Baby, you're cute. I don't mind that you used to read those. I don't even mind if you still do. No different than a book, right? Maybe it'll give us some fun date ideas.” He rested his head on top of yours innocently.
Oh, if only he knew the things you read.
“Right. Fun date ideas,” you smirked to yourself. He pulled away to look at you, eyebrow raising playfully.
“Sweetheart,” he interrogated in the same tone you use when Skipper steals a sock from the laundry, “what kind of stories are you reading about me and my characters, huh?” He lifted your chin to meet his eyes. You'd feel nervous from his tone if he didn't flash a smug, knowing grin at you.
“Oh, you know…” you shrugged. “Just the typical romance stuff,” you turned, facing him and resting your hand on his chest, tracing a circle over his heart with your finger. You felt his pulse pick up under your touch, and saw his Adam's apple bob as he swallowed.
“What kind of thoughts are going through that pretty head of yours?” He asked, raising his brow while you continued tracing little hearts into his shirt with your index finger.
“Wouldn't you like to know?” You winked before removing your hand from his chest. Starting to walk away, you continued your earlier statement. “Anyway, as I was saying-”
“Oh, no you don’t,” he interrupted, laughing. “Don't think you're getting out of this conversation that easy,” he gently pulled your forearm, stopping your movement and sending you twirling into his arms once again.
“Maybe someday I'll tell you,” you giggled, booping his nose.
“Someday? Why not tell me now?” He ran his thumb over your lip, eyes drifting down quickly before returning to your eyes.
“I'll show you the fanfics I read about you when I know you're stuck with me and you aren't going to run for the hills,” you laughed nervously, only partially joking.
His playful demeanor vanished before your eyes, turning into a look of… concern? Oh no. This is it. Where he realizes what a mistake he made. Where he says he doesn't want to be together. Where he breaks my heart.
He gently held your arm, rubbing soft strokes. “Honey. What are you talking about?” His soft brown eyes searched your face. You gulped, not wanting to make eye contact, but he again pulled your chin up, forcing you to look at him. “I…” you floundered for the words. “I don't want to scare you away.”
“Why would I be scared away?” he asked in almost a whisper, concern and sadness lacing his features.
“Because I just had this huge, huge crush on you. So, I read fanfics and I saved all your photos and I watched all your movies. I spent more time on social media looking for updates on you. Just so I could see you, or imagine what being with you would feel like. Like a total crazy person. An absolute psycho creeper.”
“Baby…” he brushed his thumb over your cheek. “You aren't any of those things. I actually think that’s kind of sweet. Although, it makes me a little sad thinking about the pain you must have felt, having these strong feelings and not having found each other yet.” He brushed your hair out of your face, settling his other hand on your waist before continuing.
“Feelings make us feel a little crazy sometimes, and although I never read fanfiction about you, or had any pictures to save, I would be lying if I said I didn't take a screenshot of us that first night you showed me your face.” He rubbed his neck bashfully.
Fanfic about me? What? If that even exists, I gotta see what people are saying…
“You did?” His admission surprised you, to say the least. He sighed before answering. “Yes. I had - have,” he corrected himself, “a pretty big crush on you too, baby. But I felt like I was betraying you in a way, taking a picture of you during our video chat. I just wanted to remember your face if I never saw it again,” he sighed.
“I fell in love with you the first time I heard your song... I heard you sing about your feelings and daydreams. So… you admitting about fanfiction and pictures isn't all that surprising.” You lowered your eyes in embarrassment.
“Hey, look at me.” He stroked your cheek. You looked up and he continued. “I took that picture because I had already fallen so head-over-heels for you that the first time I saw your face, I stopped breathing. Although I knew I wouldn't be able to get the image of you out of my mind, I couldn't risk forgetting the most beautiful woman I've ever seen in my life.”
You dropped your gaze again, cheeks feeling a permanent state of warmth and butterflies dancing from your stomach to your chest. “You don't honestly mean that, Pedro.” You sighed. “I appreciate it, but there's no way. I really don't know what you could ever see in someone like me,” you whispered, barely audible. If you weren't standing so close, he would've missed it.
Instead of responding, he dropped his arms from your body. At the loss of contact, your heart sank. But when you lifted your head to meet his eyes, he was fishing around his pocket for his phone. Calling an Uber to leave? Your self-doubt pestered.
A few taps to his screen later and he held up his phone. There you were, sitting at your table in your favorite dress, with your favorite food and flowers on the table. You had the biggest smile on your face and in the bottom corner, you could see Pedro looking handsome as always, and absolutely smitten with you, the largest grin painted across his features.
At the sight of the image, your heart warmed. “See what you mean to me?” He asked, putting his phone back into his pocket. You nodded, wrapping your arms around his neck. “I love you,” you choked out, leaning forward to mold your lips to his. They fit together perfectly. Like they were made for each other. He pressed back before opening his mouth ever so slightly to lick at your lips. Matching his movements, your tongues met, dancing a waltz in exploration as he pulled you forward by your lower back, seeming as if trying to get as close as possible somehow.
As the two of you paused for air, he ran his hand further down your back, just barely grazing the dip of your spine where your torso meets your butt. He gave you a look, almost to determine your reaction, asking permission to let his hand continue. When you didn't back away, going as far as pulling him closer around his neck and leaning in for another kiss, he pressed his lips against yours in return and let his hands wander a little further down. When his hand wrapped around the cheek of your ass, you squeaked. This is new… and I like it, you thought. His whole hand fit across your cheek. His huge hands. You whimpered as he gave a squeeze, like he was claiming you as his own.
“I love you too.” He finally responded, pulling out of the kiss to search your eyes. “So tell me… what was this activity you wanted to add to our date? The one you fear makes you sound like a creepy fan?” He let out a small laugh, brushing your nose with his.
“This,” you replied, pressing another kiss.
“Kissing?” He asked, rubbing his thumb over your waist and resting his forehead to yours. “I think we've already been doing that, if I'm not mistaken.” He pecked your lips with his.
“Yes,” you kissed. “Well,” kiss. “Actually,” you pulled away enough to explain. “I read this interview you gave a few years ago about your ideal first date?”
“Yeah?”
“You said something about ‘a date that doesn't feel like a date. And
hopefully by the end, or throughout, very
good kissing.” You said, slightly cautious at your memorization, a bit nervous at the implication of what you're saying.
“Oh, is that what you want?” He flashed his eyes up to look at you, giving a devilish smirk.
“Well, as someone who hadn't been kissed yet when I read it, I sorta lost my mind over it,” you laughed. “Obviously we've kissed before, but if it were up to me your lips would never leave mine,” you pressed your lips to his again.
“I think we should be able to make that happen,” he leaned in, brushing his nose against yours before pulling you in for another kiss. “Mmmm” you sighed, pulling away from his lips. “Never gets old.” You held his hand in yours, the two of you walking again down the beach.
“So I was thinking,” he began, “since you said you deleted all your photos, and I only have the one, maybe we could make some new photos… together,” the corner of his mouth turned up into a crooked smile. You grinned and nodded excitedly. “Please!”
Pulling out his phone, the two of you took several photos together. Some just smiling, some with Skipper, and your personal favorites, the ones with him kissing you. This will make for a perfect lockscreen, you imagined.
As you approached the edge of a rocky cliffside at the end of the beach, a sea lion barked in the distance. Skipper perked up, tilting his head and letting his ears twitch before returning a “boof.” The two of you laughed, ushering your dog away from making any wild ocean friends, and headed towards the boardwalk.
After grabbing an ice cream at a candy shop, you were so deep in conversation and laughter that you didn't notice the girl off to the side looking nervous. Slowly she walked over. Skipper put up his guard, but as she approached, she gave a kind wave. “Hi… I'm sorry to bother you. I'm a big fan of you both.”
“Us… both?!” You responded, surprised. Pedro shook his head with a laugh before thanking the fan.
“Of course! Your music is amazing! I listen to it on my way home from work everyday. I relate to so many of your songs.”
“Wow, thank you so much. I never expected to be recognized. You're so kind,” you replied honestly.
She asked for a photo with you both, and after obliging, she mentioned before leaving, “by the way, I was following all the news that went down. I just want to say I think it's cute how you guys got together and you make a really cute couple. Okay bye! Thank you again!!” And with that, she scurried away, leaving you to look at Pedro in surprise. “Wow” you replied with a laugh. “I can't believe I'm getting recognized,” you spoke quietly.
“How do you feel about it?” Pedro asked cautiously.
“I feel… okay, so far. This was a nice interaction, and even though people keep looking at us… being able to be out in public with you, to show my face, kiss you, hug you, hold your hand,” you gave his hand a squeeze, “it makes it all worth it.”
“I couldn't agree more,” he looked into your eyes, giving a soft smile. You matched his expression before his face slowly faded into concern. “Do you think work will go okay for you? Now that it's out there?”
You took a deep breath, walking a few more steps with him down the boardwalk before replying. “I don't know. I guess so. Or… I hope so at least. I've had a few of my friends and coworkers message me kind words of encouragement. So at least I'll have some people on my side, even if anyone else has something to say. But really, they shouldn't. They already know me. They knew I liked you,” you leaned into him. “So they should be happy for me if anything. And if not, then… well, they didn't deserve to be my friend anyway,” you shrugged. “But I think I might take some time off to figure out everything, career wise,” you added. Still leaning into his side, Pedro unlatched his fingers from yours, opting to reach his arm around you, giving your shoulder a squeeze and rubbing soft circles into your upper arm.
“Baby,” Pedro began, his voice vibrating through your body as he leaned his head on yours, “I’m so proud of you. Have I told you how strong I think you are?” Your cheeks warmed and you grinned. “Thank you Pedro,” you wrapped your arms around his waist to hug him. “But I don't think I'm that strong. I struggle to open pickle jars just like the rest of us,” you joked.
Pedro gave a quiet snort. “You know what I mean, honey,” he laughed. “I don't mean physical strength. Though I'm sure you could hold your own in an arm wrestle, I mean your ability to handle all of this thrown at you so quickly. Your ability to adapt and stay cheerful about everything. You just keep continuing to amaze me,” he pulled his head away from yours to meet your gaze. He smiled softly and you thanked him.
“I don't feel very strong,” you mumbled, breaking away from his stare. “You are, though. You're strong, smart, beautiful. Talented. Passionate,” he kissed your lips.
“Pedro, I love you, but you always seem to use all these words I don't feel. You see me as someone completely different than the way I've always seen myself. I want to believe you, but-” you sighed. “No one else has ever shown any indication that those are true,” you pouted, trying not to tear up.
“Hey, hey, whoa. Stop,” he halted your movements, pulling your chin up to his face. “Maybe they didn't see you, but I do. I feel all those things about you, and I'll spend every single day trying to prove it. I told myself I wouldn't get involved in romance a long time ago. But you changed all that.”
His chocolate brown eyes felt like they looked directly into your soul as he attempted to unravel your self-doubt. With a deep breath, you calmed enough to reply. “I love you, and I feel all those things for you as well. I'm glad you opened yourself up to love again.” You pressed a kiss to his lips. “I'm glad I met you” you sucked his lip. “I'm glad you're mine.” You kissed him again, deepening it, letting your tongue press gently to his and tangling together in passion before pulling away.
Skipper had completely rolled into his side in wait for you both, between the conversation and the kissing. When the two of you broke away with matching grins, you looked over to see the sun had sunk down to the border between sky and ocean. In its wake was a bright orange sky, with pink, purple, and yellow streaks mixed in, as if a painter had gotten a bit too carried away with the paints. It was blindingly beautiful.
Drawn to it like moths, the three of you walked towards the shoreline once again. You started to sit, but Pedro pulled you into his chest and fished for his phone.
You gave him a confused look before he kissed you deeply and held out his arm. Unlatching his lips from yours with a pop, he held up his phone to you with a smile. In front of the vibrant ocean sunset, the silhouette of a couple shared a loving kiss. For once, it was you in this couple photo. You and the man you love.
You walked a little farther down the sand before sitting down just above the line of wet sand to admire the sunset. Pedro sat behind you, his legs on either side of you while you lay back into his chest. As you leaned into him, he hugged around your body, molding himself to you and tracing light circles into the skin on your arms, making the hairs stand on end and a shiver to run down your spine.
Skipper flopped down nearby, clearly sleepy after a long walk and plenty of new smells. You ran a gentle hand down his back until you heard soft snores, then let him sleep, leaning your head on Pedro’s arm around your shoulder. “This sunset is beautiful,” you sighed, watching as the sun descended further below the ocean. It looked as if it was sinking deep below the surface, offering its light to the deep sea anglerfish miles below.
“It is amazing,” Pedro agreed, staring at you. “But my view is even better,” he added, and you could feel his eyes on the side of your face as he kissed your shoulder. You looked over at him, meeting his eyes, now sparkling with the orange of the sky. “Mine too,” you whispered, tilting your head to press another kiss to his lips.

When the sun went down completely, you headed to the car and Pedro drove back to your place so you could get ready for dinner.
Pedro sat on the couch patiently, stroking the fur on Skip’s back while he snoozed, his head in Pedro's lap. In your bedroom, you searched for the perfect outfit to wear, finally deciding on a nice dress and sweater.
Hopefully the restaurant isn't too cold, you thought.
Walking out of the bedroom, you joined your boys in the living room, only to be greeted by Pedro’s jaw hitting the floor. “Te ves tan hermosa mi amor,” he stuttered in Spanish, flipping languages so easily when he was overcome with emotion. (You look so gorgeous my love.)
He gently stood, sliding out from below your dog, before walking over to you. His eyes scanned your body from head to toe and back up again, making you feel nervous. “You… you look… wow.” He rubbed his hand over his chin, his thumb grazing his lip. His pupils grew, making his eyes ever-so-slightly darker. You shivered under his gaze.
At your shiver, his demeanor shifted. “Shit, are you cold? Baby, you look incredible, but if you're cold -”
“I'm not cold, Pedro,” you interrupted.
“Are you sure? I saw you shiver.” He stepped towards you, touching your arm. A buzz crept under your skin like a live wire. “It wasn't from the cold…” you replied.
“It wasn't from-?” He paused, the realization hitting him as he understood your shiver wasn't from cold but frankly.. the opposite. “Oh,” he hummed, settling his hand on your hip and stepping closer.
Another chill.
“Feeling excited for our date, huh?” His voice caressed into your ear as he kissed his way down your neck, pausing to take gentle nibbles on the skin of your collarbone, neck, and chin, before pulling you in by your waist to press a deep kiss to your mouth, his tongue finding yours.
This was starting to feel natural, kissing. And you two were getting good at it together. Knowing just the way his tongue moved, finding just the spot to make you whine. You even managed to find a spot of him that made a groan slip from his lips nearly every time. Kissing him was addicting, and you had no intention of kicking the habit.
He pulled away, pulling your lip with his teeth as you let out a slight hiss. “I'd love to do this all night, but I promised you dinner, my love,” he kissed your cheek, his beard scratching your face just right. You sighed, agreeing to dinner and taking a minute step back. It felt much warmer in the room than before, and you could tell he felt the same. As your eyes drifted across his body, he nervously rubbed the back of his neck, clearing his throat. Slowly sweeping his eyes down his body, it was evident you both wanted something beyond dinner.
But the gentleman he is, Pedro stepped forward again, taking your hand and leading you toward the door.

Pulling up to the curb, Pedro opened your door for you before handing his keys to the valet. Linking his arm with yours, the two of you walked into an elegant Italian restaurant. He gave the waitress his name, and she led you back to a secluded room where a single booth sat.
The room was dimly lit, illuminated by candles and twinkling fairy lights. They lined the ceiling, mimicking the starry sky, were it not for the smog of the city. You two walked toward the only booth, settled against the nook of a window, draped with a soft, thin white curtain covering the view from outside. Only the reflection of street lights peered through the thin drapery.
Sliding into the booth, Pedro sat next to you, close enough to touch, yet due to the curve of the corner booth, you were able to converse without craning your neck awkwardly. At the center of the table was a single red rose in a vase, sat next to the glow of a candle. The table itself was rounded and draped with an elegant dark red tablecloth.
Grabbing the triangular folded napkin off your plate, you folded it across your lap, Pedro doing the same. He reached over to you, taking your hand in his. He rolled his hand over the top of yours, linking his fingers between your own and giving a gentle squeeze while offering a soft smile.
You looked into his eyes, searching for the words he might be thinking. In his eyes you only found love and appreciation, pure happiness oozing from his features. When the waitress came back, she set a basket of bread with butter on the table and took your orders.
The night went smoothly, chatter filling the empty spaces while you enjoyed your meals. “Pedro, I know this is technically our first date, but I gotta say, I think I consider our video chat for my album as the first date. It was the first time I felt like I might actually have a shot with you. You put so much effort into that night and it was the nicest thing anyone had ever done for me. I didn't know I could fall for you any harder than I was, but you proved me wrong. And even though we didn't say it was a date, and I didn't have much experience before you, it felt more like a date than anything I had ever felt before. You're a real romantic, P.”
He smiled and pressed a gentle kiss to your lips. “That felt like the first date to me too. I knew for sure that I loved you that night.” Your cheeks heated, and you leaned your head on his shoulder.
It was only when the bill arrived that you broke apart. Though you offered to pay, at least for your meal, Pedro wouldn't stand for that. After all, he told you, this date was his idea. So instead, you thanked him and left the restaurant the same way you entered, arms linked.

As Pedro pulled up outside of your home, you let out a sigh. It was already after 9 PM. You had spent nearly eight hours together and yet you dreaded the moment you'd be saying goodbye. It was almost that time already, yet it felt like only five minutes had passed.
Though the walk from Pedro’s car to your front door was rather short, you both managed to prolong it, walking as slow as possible. Clearly he wasn't ready for it to end either. Two love sick fools, just wanting to spend every moment together.
Teetering on the edge of goodbyes, you awkwardly stood by your door. There were no nerves at a first kiss, fortunately. There had been plenty of kisses shared today, and yesterday, and the day prior. In fact, if it weren't for breathing, eating, and other bodily functions, you'd be fine having your lips glued to his indefinitely.
So with that in mind, and the burning desire to spend more time together, as he said goodbye, placing a kiss to your lips and beginning to walk away, you grabbed his arm. “Wait,” you plead.
Pedro turned, looking at you as if you had something to say, or you had forgotten a sweater in the car. But instead, with your heart pounding in your ears, you quietly asked, “would you like to come in? I’m not quite ready to say goodbye.”
The question could be taken with so many potential implications, or none at all. All you knew for sure was that you wanted to spend more time with him. What happened next could be decided in the moment.
His eyes flashed surprise for a moment. He looked at you, trying to read your face for any details in your question, then stared at your front door before turning back to you and finally answering.
“I would love to,” he smiled.
And so the two of you walked through the threshold of your front door, buzzing with new possibilities just inside. But no matter how the rest of the evening takes place, you were in love, and for once, you were loved back.

All she had was an eager cop, a detective, and the detective’s vigilante best friend.
She hoped it would be enough.
Y/n knew that boredom would be her worst enemy, so she downloaded a police scanner app and listened to it almost religiously while she worked. The constant stream of voices helped keep the grief at bay and helped her focus.
To her surprise, the cops seemed to want Batman around. There were a couple of calls those first couple of days–an armed robbery and a creep taking pictures through a window–where the officers mentioned him by name. He’d stopped the armed robbery before the cops got there and also caught the peeping Tom. One cop grumbled on the radio how all their work was being taken by some guy in a costume. The rest of them jumped to Batman's defense, saying there was more than enough crime to go around. “Besides,” one chuckled. “I wouldn't want to be the one to catch some creep with his dick out.”
Y/n was almost pleased to hear the good relationship the vigilante had with GCPD. She wondered how much Gordon had to do with that. She made a few notes of their comments for her article, because it was definitely interesting to see that a city wanted a guy who operated outside the law around.
It was a few nights before an interesting call came through.
A witness reported a woman being shot. A young woman. The details were sparse but it was enough to pique her interest.
Y/n couldn’t say what it was that had her dressing warmly and grabbing her camera and phone. Stupidity, definitely. But it was one of those moments where she felt in her gut that something was happening, something related to her case.
Pepper spray clutched in one hand and camera in the other, she left the safety of Wayne Tower. Every shadow made her jump. She called a cab to take her to the crime scene–or at least as close as she could get. It was practically on the other side of the city and she definitely didn’t want to chance walking alone at night in Gotham.
They were stopped two blocks from the scene, so she got out and peered around. It looked like the actual crime scene was on the other side of an apartment building to her right, but that alley was blocked off as was the street in front of her. So she walked a little further down to the next connecting alley to get to one street over.
“What are you doing here?”
“Shit!” She screamed. She whirled and swung her arm up to use the mace, but her wrist was quickly caught in an iron grip. She tried to scramble away and almost fell when the hand suddenly released her.
Her heart only slightly calmed when she saw who it was.
The Batman.
She pressed her knuckles to her chest. Her heart was jumping out of her chest. “Jesus fucking Christ. What are you doing here?”
He watched her passively, half in the shadows. He had stepped away as soon as he let her go. “I asked first.”
She closed her eyes for a beat and inhaled a steadying breath. “Probably the same thing you’re doing here.” She shrugged. Her pulse was still racing but she knew she was safe now. He wouldn’t let anyone hurt her. And besides, there were about a million cops just around the corner. If she screamed, they would come.
“It’s too dangerous,” he growled. He took a half-step forward, like he would grab her again.
She held up the pepper spray. “Not afraid to use this on you, buddy. Besides, you’re here now to keep me safe. And the other fifty cops out there.”
He stopped. His eyes narrowed. She wanted to get closer, see what color they were, help narrow down who might be underneath the mask.
“Fine, let’s go.” He started to walk past her, towards the blue and red lights at the end of the alley.
She blinked in surprise. “That was easy.”
He looked back over his shoulder at her. “Only because you’re going to do what you want to do. At least this way I can keep an eye out for you.”
She grinned and winked. “You’re learning already.”
They walked down the alley together, her shadowy protector moving to stay one step behind her like a bodyguard.
At the end of the alley, the world was leached of color in the whirling red and blue lights, the flashes timed almost perfectly to the beat of her heart. She snapped a quick wide picture. She could see the area cordoned off with bright yellow tape.
“Well, of all the officers in all of Gotham,” she said pleasantly when she spied Martinez keeping onlookers away from the crime scene tape.
Officer Martinez’s young face brightened when he saw her, then changed comically fast when he peered over her shoulder. She could feel the Batman’s presence at her back, looming over her.
“She’s with me,” the vigilante said. Martinez sighed but held up the tape to let them under. She sensed there was a story between them and itched to find out what it was.
“If either of you touch anything…” Martinez grumbled. “It’s my neck.”
Y/n flashed him her most winning smile. “Don’t worry, I’ll keep the big guy in line.” Martinez grinned back.
“So Martinez doesn’t like you, huh?” she asked the vigilante.
He ignored her.
The air around them was humid, wet. It must have rained earlier, like most nights in Gotham. A few cop cars were leaving already. She wondered what had brought on the intense response. Her stomach tightened as they approached another alley. Gordon was talking to a young guy, late teens to early twenties, taking notes on a small notepad as the guy wiped at his face.
Y/n quickly fumbled for her phone and set it to record. She wasn’t making the same mistake twice. Except for, well, the whole leaving Wayne Tower late at night while a murderer might be after her mistake she’d already made. She snapped another sneaky picture of Gordon and the young man.
She caught Batman watching her and arched an eyebrow as if daring him to say anything.
He simply turned away and said, “Gordon.”
“Thank you,” Gordon said to who she assumed was a witness. “We’ll be in touch.”
The guy hurried off, shoulders hunched, his face almost green.
Gordon turned, saw her, and sighed. “I would ask, but…”
She winked. “You’re both learning so quickly. I’m proud.”
“What happened?” Batman asked, all business. Y/n glanced past Gordon and saw a body covered in a sheet. The medical examiner was unzipping a body bag, about to transport it.
The detective’s attention turned to the vigilante. “Single gunshot to the head at close range. Woman in her thirties walking home from work. Guy heard the gunshots and came running. Said he didn’t see the shooter but immediately called it in. Unfortunately, his dinner has…contaminated part of the scene.”
While they were talking, y/n quietly lifted her camera and started taking pictures.
The medical examiner lifted the sheet. She took another picture but paused.
She took a shaky step back and bumped into something. Gloved hands steadied her by her elbows.
“Oh,” Batman said softly. He put it together quicker than she had. Her brain was scrambling to keep up. The girl on the ground was a bloody mess, face down, legs sprawled like she’d tried to run. She was wearing a similar outfit to y/n–leggings, sweater, running shoes.
But that wasn’t where the similarities ended.
The height, the body shape, the hair color, even the shade of her skin…
The woman looked like y/n.
She didn’t realize she was shaking until Batman gently squeezed her elbows.
“Shit,” Gordon said. He must not have seen the body when he first arrived on the scene.
“Don’t look,” Batman said in her ear, pulling her away, his voice conjuring–of all people–Bruce Wayne. It was just her mind reaching for something familiar, comfortable, safe. She shook the thought away. The vigilante turned her around and held her close. “Don’t look,” he said again.
She closed her eyes against the wave of emotion. Her stomach swooped dangerously. She’d seen a dead body or two before but not–not like this.
“Guess we have confirmation, then,” Gordon said softly. She didn’t have to ask what confirmation they had. She knew already, her gut telling her what exactly had happened despite its churning.
Someone had killed that woman because it looked like her.
They knew what she looked like. They knew well enough to kill someone even with the chance it might not be her.
Which meant they were desperate and that it was only a matter of time before they found her.
“Come on, you need to get out of here,” Gordon said, and this time he had her by the arm. He pulled her along, the vigilante cutting a path through the crowd before them.
Her mind was blank. The shock of seeing a body, of imaging her own in its place, had wiped everything clean. She didn’t protest as Gordon bundled her into the passenger seat of his car. At least he didn’t put me in the back like a criminal, she thought almost deliriously.
Batman stood in the open door, staring down at her. She wasn’t sure when he’d gotten there but now he was filling her vision. Her eyes traced the planes of his armor, wondering what he looked like underneath, who he was. There were dings and scrapes in places, physical memories of past fights.
“I’m going to find who did this,” he said. His voice pitched impossibly lower. “And keep an eye out for you.”
This made her snap out of it. “You can’t be in two places at once.” He had black paint around his eyes. She hadn’t noticed before.
The barest smirk on his lips as he looked away. She couldn’t tell what color his eyes were in the darkness of the night. “You don’t know that for sure.”
She snorted. “You’re right. Maybe you’re some sort of mutant freak. Besides dressing like a bat, you know.” Despite the joking, her hands shook. She tucked them between her thighs.
“Listen,” he said, serious again. There was a note of steel in the word. His voice was so low she could feel it as a vibration on her skin. “Stop sneaking out at night. It’s too dangerous.”
She nodded vaguely but didn’t actually make the promise. If they wanted her dead, Wayne Tower wasn’t going to stop them. Slow them down, maybe, but not stop them. She needed to put the puzzle pieces together, and fast. They were getting closer to figuring out who she was, but she and Gordon and even the Batman only vaguely knew who they were dealing with. They needed to even the score.
“Then give me your phone number so you can be my bodyguard,” she said. She was half teasing.
The Batman seemed to consider it. Her eyes went past him as the gurney passed with the body on it. She shuddered and he stepped to block her view.
“If you have to leave, let Gordon know and one of us will come. But only if you have to.”
“Right,” she scoffed. “You’re allergic to texting.” And probably don’t want a reporter having your phone number, she silently added.
Batman stepped back and then Gordon was there. He put one hand on the top of the car and leaned in, expression as serious as she’d ever seen it. “I’m taking you straight home and you’re going to stay there, alright?”
She waved a hand but nodded. Satisfied, he shut the passenger door. She could hear muffled voices as he said something to Batman. Probably berating him for bringing her to the crime scene in the first place. Or telling him something he didn’t want her to hear.
Within a couple of minutes, Gordon was sliding behind the wheel.
“How’d you even know where to go?” he asked as they drove.
“Police scanner app.”
He glanced over at her. “I hate those things,” he muttered. “What happened to quid pro quo? I would have called you.”
She bit her lip and shrugged. “I can’t just sit around waiting for someone to shoot me in the head.” She shivered at the image she now had of what, exactly, that looked like.
“So you’re going to take yourself right to their doorstep instead?”
“With the way my luck is going lately, it’s only a matter of time anyway. Might as well get as much done as I can first.” She hated to be so casual about it, but she had had really shit luck lately. There was no use hiding from it. If she didn’t leave Wayne Tower, they would probably find a way to break in. Or send a sniper after her. She thought about the times she’d leaned against the windows in the study and a chill went up her spine.
“All you’ve done is traumatize yourself and give me a headache,” he said around a sigh. He really did sound like a tired dad half the time, she mused. She leaned her head back and watched the dark streets of Gotham pass by. She was reminded of another night in Gotham, years ago, on the back of a motorcycle with Bruce.
She pushed the memory away and said, “I’ll pay for a bottle of ibuprofen.”
Gordon laughed softly. “Listen, I know you reporter types are always rushing into danger, but this is your life. Can’t write the story if you’re dead. Text me if you have to go anywhere, and either I’ll come or send someone I trust.”
“Okay,” she said. “But if it takes too long I might leave anyway.” She smiled so he would know she was at least partially kidding. “Have you learned anything new?”
Gordon was silent for so long she knew it was bad news. He parked right in front of Wayne Tower–illegally, she might add.
He turned to face her, his hands idly resting on his knees. “It’s definitely the Gallo family. And another of the suspects we caught is dead. Apparent suicide, but we aren’t so sure. The third one is under around the clock protection, but…”
“Shit,” she said. Now she was the one with a headache. “That is…bad.”
“Can you see why I want you to stay home now?” he asked pleadingly. “Like it or not, I’m responsible for keeping you alive. If we can catch the last guy and get him and the other to trial…you’re an important witness. The only witness.”
“Aw, and here I was thinking you were starting to like me.”
A tightening at the corners of his mouth told her he was trying not to smile. “Let me walk you upstairs.”
“Do you see all the security in there? I’ll be fine.” She gestured towards the lobby. It definitely looked more like a swanky prison these days, even at night when no employees were in the lower floors of the building.
“I wanted to see if I could talk to Bruce Wayne.”
Y/n did a double take. Just the sound of his name made her stomach tighten almost painfully. “Why? To tattle on me? Bruce Wayne is not my keeper. He’s not my anything.” She immediately bit her tongue. She’d said too much with that last sentence, let too much of her hurt and bitterness in.
“I want to talk to him about his security, see if we can bolster it with our officers somehow.” Gordon was already up and out of the car. She scrambled to keep up, briefly getting caught in her seatbelt before yanking it off and hopping out.
Gordon flashed his badge to the security. They all relaxed not at seeing it, but at seeing y/n.
“You better talk to Alfred then, if he’s awake. He’s more in charge of that stuff than Bruce. He’s with me, it’s fine.” She said the last part to the concerned security guard–the new one whose name she still hadn’t learned, the one who had called the police for her the night she’d witnessed the murders. He was in charge of the night shift security, apparently. She wondered if he resented being the only guy at the desk at night to having a whole team around. Or maybe it was less lonely.
Gordon followed her into the private residential elevator. “Be that as it may, I’d like to speak to Mr. Wayne too.”
She sighed but hit the button to take them up to the residential part of Wayne Tower. “You really sound like a dad,” she muttered under her breath.
Gordon cut his eyes at her then smiled.
The elevators opened, and there was Alfred, already dressed and waiting. Security must have called up, warning him the detective was coming. Had he even gone to bed? She was starting to think that Alfred might be nocturnal. Or maybe he didn’t sleep at all. That was new–she and Bruce had gotten in trouble many times when they were younger for interrupting his precious sleep. These days he always seemed to be dressed impeccably, even late at night.
“Detective,” Alfred said pleasantly. He briefly narrowed his eyes at her. “How can I help you?”
Y/n idly scuffed her foot against the floor, suddenly feeling like a teenager again. She had always been caught either sneaking out or sneaking back in. Alfred had a knack for it. Or maybe she wasn’t as good as Bruce had been, who had been caught only twice that she could remember.
Gordon nodded politely. “Is Mr. Wayne feeling better? I’d like to talk to the both of you.”
“I would like to add here that it’s not sneaking out if I’m a grown woman,” y/n said helpfully.
Alfred’s eyes narrowed again before he turned his focus back to Gordon. “Mr. Wayne is out.”
Now y/n was narrowing her eyes at Alfred. He caught her looking. She raised one eyebrow. Was he street racing again? She remembered the bruises on his knuckles. Or part of an illegal fight club? Neither would surprise her.
Another thought struck and stole her breath.
Maybe Bruce had a girlfriend.
“Do you know when he’ll be back?” Gordon asked. His tone was carefully neutral.
“Well, as I was just told, the rules are different for grown men–and women. He comes and goes as he pleases and rarely includes me in his plans.” Alfred was being too professional with it. His tone was too flat. Oh yeah, Bruce was definitely up to something, and Alfred definitely knew exactly what it was. Fuck, she thought desperately. She couldn’t breathe. Alfred would know if Bruce had a girlfriend and he knew her well enough to hide it from her.
Why did the thought of Bruce with another woman hurt so much, even three years later? I don’t love you and I never will, he had said that night.
Which meant he was perfectly capable of loving someone else.
Y/n bit her lip until the pain made the panic recede.
“Of course,” Gordon said in an equally flat, professional tone. “I wanted to chat about security measures. There was another murder tonight, and while I can’t give details of an ongoing investigation…it definitely seems like y/n is a target.”
She cringed, remembering how eerily similar the body had been to hers. Who had the woman been? She hadn’t gotten a name, an age. But she felt like she should know these things if the woman had died in her place. What if she was only the first? Would they kill every woman who looked close enough to y/n before they caught her?
Alfred blinked in surprise, the professional facade slipping. “I–of course, let’s go into my office.”
Y/n wanted to go with them but decided against it. It really would be smarter to listen to Gordon. If she needed to leave, she would get an escort, even if it was Alfred. He may walk with a cane but she knew he was secretly pretty spry. He’d been a spy or soldier or something in his younger years, before coming to work for the Waynes.
“Goodnight, Alfred,” she said, taking a half-step towards the hall that led to her room. “And thanks, Gordon.”
They both nodded and bid her goodnight before disappearing towards the study.
Y/n waited a second then darted to the elevator. The other elevator. Bruce’s.
She didn’t really have a plan other than to see with her own two eyes that Bruce was gone and not just hiding.
She hit the button for what was once the garage and again, nothing happened. She frowned at it and hit it several more times. Still nothing.
What if Bruce was down there with a woman, showing her his cars? Or–She shut the thought down and mashed the button one more time, knowing it was futile.
With a curse, she stepped back out.
Fine, she would go to bed and leave Bruce alone. It didn’t matter if he was wrecking illegally souped up cars or beating someone’s face in and following the first rule of fight club. It didn’t matter if he was with a woman he might love more than he ever loved her.
It didn’t matter. He didn’t matter.
Except, as much as she hated to admit it, he did.

Right Here
Leon Kennedy x GN! Reader
A/N: I know that realistically this man probably wouldn’t have the energy or even the mental capacity to comfort anyone, but it’s nice to imagine. I felt bad the other night and kinda got inspired by my own breakdown, so this is mainly for myself. Any Leon applies, but personally I was thinking of an older one.
Title from "Right Here" by Chase Atlantic
TW: mental breakdown (I think???), crying, abandonment issues
Word count: 1078
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You curled up on the mattress, desperately clinging to the body pillow you kept for when Leon wasn’t around. You didn’t know what set you off, you’d had a good day. So why were you crying? You hung out with friends, had a good time laughing and playing games, ate good food, everything was perfect. So why did you feel so off?
You sobbed out apologies into the dark room, tears falling on to the body pillow you clung to. Something in the back of your mind was telling you it was all an elaborate joke. That people kept you around either out of pity or because they wanted to use you in some way. But the main thing on your mind was Leon. He’d been gone on a mission for a couple weeks now, and you hadn’t gotten a message in days. You knew it was most likely because he was busy and couldn’t send any, but you couldn’t shake the feeling that he suddenly hated you. That suddenly you were unattractive and everything about you was repulsive. You continued to cry, muffling your pained screams and squeaks with the pillow, despite knowing you were alone in the house. Or so you thought.
You had been so caught up in your own emotions that you hadn’t heard the creak of the front door closing or the heavy, tired footsteps trudging up the stairs. You wept and wept, curled up in the fetal position, unaware that the person you were crying for had stopped just outside the door, confused as to why you were crying in the first place.
Leon stepped into the house to find it dark. Confused, he searched the kitchen for you, only to be met with more darkness, food and dishes already put away and washed. He searched the rest of the ground floor, still bewildered. You usually weren’t asleep this early. He turned on his heel, figuring you’d be upstairs, and dragged his tired frame up the steps slowly. As he reached the top of the stairs, he heard soft, muffled whimpers and sniffles from the bedroom. He stopped outside of the door, unsure of whether he should step in to comfort you or to wait it out. Ultimately, he felt bad, and decided to step in to try and help, his heart breaking for you.
“I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to, come back, please!” You wailed, clawing at the pillow as if it were him, trying to hold it impossibly closer to your shaking body. You heard the door open, and all crying ceased immediately. You let your head drop, pretending to be asleep.
“Baby…” Leon spoke, walking over to the bed and sitting down on the edge. “Hey…I heard you crying. What’s wrong?”
You shook your head in response to his question, embarrassed that you’d been caught. It hadn’t been the first time, of course, but you still weren’t quite comfortable with him knowing about it.
“What were you apologizing for?” He asked, leaning closer to you and rubbing your arm in an attempt to soothe you.
“I…I don’t know,” you croaked out, voice hoarse. “I just…I don’t know.”
“It’s ok baby. I’m here,” he kicked off his shoes and laid down next to you, pulling you into his arms.
You hesitated for a moment before speaking again, trying to figure out what to say.
“Are you mad at me?” you sniffled, tears still in the corners of your eyes as you let go of the pillow and turned around to face him. Leon’s eyes widened as the question left your lips, his brows furrowed in confusion.
“Of course not, baby. What makes you think that?” His voice was soft as he continued to pry, wanting to know as much as possible so that he could do his best to comfort you.
“I don’t know…I didn’t hear from you, and I just…” you looked down at his chest, avoiding eye contact as you answered. “I’m just being dramatic, I’m sorry.”
“Shhh…” he brought his hand up to cup your cheek, lifting your head gently to make you look at him. “It’s okay. You don’t need to apologize, hon.”
You tried to hold it together, but his words (although comforting) made a cold, sharp pain shoot through your chest, and sure enough, you were crying again. You clung to him for dear life, as if he’d disappear if you let go. You could no longer speak as the wet, hot tears poured down your face, only able to express your pain through whines and small squeaks. Your face seemed to convey one of a person screaming, but you were relatively quiet against him. Your eyes flickered to his for a moment, your expression desperate and pleading, begging him to take away the pain in your chest.
Leon had seen you break down before, and the fact that you still tried to hide it from him was heartbreaking as he pet your hair comfortingly, whispering to you as you whimpered and squeaked in his arms.
“Shhh…it’s alright. You’ll be alright, baby.” he cooed. “I promise. You’re gonna be okay, hon.” He dipped his head down until his lips met your forehead, giving it a light peck as you hiccupped out more tears.
He had started to gently rock the two of you back and forth, still caressing you. The noises had mostly stopped by now, but the tears still flowed, and you were still hyperventilating. His calloused but gentle hands held you close as he kissed the tears away, still whispering whatever words you needed to hear from him, and eventually you calmed down. Finally, you spoke up again.
“You’re not gonna leave me, are you?” Your eyes reflected the minimal light of the room like glass, staring into his brilliant blue ones. “I’m sorry, I’m trying to get better, I promise. I know I’m a lot, I don’t mean to be–”
“Shhh, doll.” He put a finger to your mouth, cutting you off. “It’s okay, I’m not going anywhere. I promise.” He pressed a tender kiss to your lips, caressing your cheek with his thumb and wiping away your tears from a few moments earlier.
“I missed you,” you breathed out as he pulled away.
“I know, baby,” he smiled softly, a light puff of air leaving his nose. “I missed you too. Now, let’s get some sleep, yeah?”
“Yeah…” you yawned, nestling yourself into Leon’s chest once more. “Goodnight, Leon.”
“Goodnight, baby. I love you.”
Record of Ragnarok Hermes (headcanons) 🔞
It came out a little chaotic... I got lost in halfway. If I'm making any significant mistakes, feel free to tell me.
SFW That guy is like a walking enigma. He behaves elegantly and kindly, always has excellent manners, not to mention his perfect tact, but something in your gut tells you it's not entirely sincere. Don’t get me wrong, you aren’t that perceptive: Hermes letting his perfect image… loosen up a bit. It’s funny. He always says something almost innocent as if he learnt what innocence means yesterday. He likes playing these kind of sweet games where you both know he isn’t honest and you try your best to expose him. If you manage to succeed, forget about praises or any other reward. Hermes would just smile or pretend innocently how unexpected that was, eh… I believe Hermes doesn’t have his type. The only condition that really matters is if a person can intrigue him. He likes challenges or being the challenge. Get his attention and keep fuel curiosity. Doesn’t matter if you are goddess or human, he would be genuinely impressed if anyone surprise him with something. That doesn’t happen often. If he catches some sort of feelings towards someone, nobody would knows. Yes, Hermes is nosy, always knows what’s happening in others’ lives, but he’s way too clever to give even the slightest hint that something is going on in his love life. For Hermes falling in love is a game but whoever falls first - loses. So romance with him is slow burn kind. I allow the possibility of enemies-to-lovers trope. If, hypothetically, some minor pantheon feuded with Zeus and Hermes would be sent to deliver the threat so that they know their place-… I meant message with some kind of advice, he might come face to face with s/o. The conversation may not be spicy, but it won’t be nice either. Full of subtexts, small provocations and fake smiles, everything on the verge of politeness. Hermes would come back without a scratch, but it definitely didn't go as expected. If at the end both sides find some reasonable compromise, Hermes and s/o most likely would end up seeing each other more often. Maybe because of their duties, maybe because they happen to be in the right place and time. Half the time, they'll have their small banters. Usually Ares is part of them because he overheard something - in his opinion - disrespectful and he tries to backup his brother, but he’s so incompetent that even he realizes it himself. At that point it’s usually too late for prideful man as Ares to call it off so Hermes has to come in a clutch and safe his butt. And no - Ares never learns from his mistakes. The next day he would fall into the same trap again… Sometimes it even leads to situation where everyone is against everyone. Hermes won’t be playing on violin just for s/o, but if she joins him during the play, he won’t mind her presence. In fact, he would like to talk about it afterwards. It works both ways - he won't be pushy either, but he would be kindly interested if she mentions her hobbies and is willing to share. The tension between them builds slowly over time. They both know that the other feels the same, but they don't act on it. I think it would go from like zero to hundred in a moment. Single spark and suddenly they kiss and touch each other without hesitation. It's hard to tell if they would become an official couple. They might as well be in open relationship or just friends with benefit.
NSFW I see him as a switch. He is used to serve Zeus and others so probably feels a need to be in charge and take care of a lover. On other hand, if you insist to be top and just tell him to relax, he’ll accept the offer. He secretly likes being care of but would never admit it. It’s new to him - be able to just empty the mind like that. I think he has a thing for long neat legs. I don’t know why. It’s nice addition, like the icing on the cake. He loves having them around his waist or placed on his arms when he basically fold you in half. Hermes likes to talk during act. He’s one playful guy. Telling you what he’s about to do, a bit of dirty talk here and then, definitely some praises. He has really good voice for that and knows how to use it against you. He’s pretty creative and open to suggestions. As long as you aren’t in pain, Hermes is up to anything. He doesn’t have his routine, just goes with the flow. Sex with him is rare, he’s busy man, that’s why he wants to make the best use of that precious time just between you two. Top notch in aftercare, hands down. That’s like his natural environment. He always makes sure you’re comfortable. Massage, bath, breakfast or any other form of tenderness you can think of.
I was woken up by intense smell and strange, omnipresent wetness. I opened my puffy eyes and once I realized I’m in the water, guided by instincts and fear, rapidly tried to get up. — Shh, calm down — I heard right next to my ear. Someone’s slender hands surrounded me in waist, forcing me to stay in sitting position. I let out a surprised sigh but didn’t oppose. I looked over my shoulder to see Hermes’s calm face. Leaning against his chest, I could feel the warmth radiating from him. — Where-re we… how… — I mumbled not fully awake yet. — You passed out — Hermes explained. Memories of our last ,conversation’ flashed back to me, and then my face exploded with heat. An egg could have been fried on my cheek. I was hoping that Hermes didn’t notice my embarrassment. Pathetic daydream… He knows everything about everyone before others. — Oh… I didn’t have to turn around to see his smile. — Judging by your body language, you didn’t seem bored with our experience. That’s why I took it as a complement. — Hermes pretend to be lost in thoughts, his voice was on the verge of innocence he imitated so well. — Whatever you like. — I gave up. He had upper hand here. — Do I interpret it correctly? Am I sensing submissiveness? — No… — Sulky mood then? — I don’t have strength for that… — That’s not very alike you. — I felt his chin on the top of my head. — Perhaps I should’ve thanked you for all these sweet gifts you gave me. I sighed. Something in his voice awaken me completely. — How much I hate… — I turned to face him. — Yes? — Hermes enticed me. I could see sparkles of joy in his eyes. — … how unbearably witty you are. — I finished angry. The corners of his lips lifted a bit. — Thank you — he said calmly. I just shook my head and came back to old position. We sat in silence. My mind went to previous events that leads me to this situation. I may have started our little tête-à-tête, but he was the one who dragged it to breaking point. I remembered his nimble fingers, smooth voice as he whispers to my ears, gentle and tender gestures, the patience, and finally his steady, firm thrusts as he filled me over and over. I lost track of time, at some point everything stopped when Hermes was playing with my body in so many different ways - from the most ordinary, to extravagant, to promiscuous positions. Being at his mercy was… pleasant. — That was very nice — I whispered. — Yes — he admitted silently, next to my ear. Whether he really thought so, or whether his impeccable manners spoke through him, I will probably never know. Still, I felt absolutely no need to worry about how I fared compared to his other lovers. I was just enjoying the moment.
Rewrite The Stars
Chapter Three
Summary: One photo changes your whole life, when you accidentally bump into a celebrity and the world starts to believe that you are a couple.
chapter two chapter four
Tumblr media
A day later and you were already going crazy, all you did was avoid the paparazzi and reporters. Which didn't stop them from getting information about you. At least you've been busy reading the contract. It's no surprise that I'm not the biggest beneficiary of it. But that doesn't mean you won't gain anything from it. I mean, you'd be signing a contract that authorizes you to do your best to make the world believe you've conquered Pedro Pascal. And you'd earn a commission for the time worked, like a acting job. The only inconvenient things are that it's up to Pascal to decide when the relationship ends, and you couldn't inform anyone about this agreement. You want to sign the contract, no doubt you do. But first you need to work out some details with Mr. Pascal. And luckily, you have his agent's phone number. You then ventured this morning sending a message asking Pascal's agent to ask him to meet you.
"Did you sign?" Asks a voice behind you that you recognize as your future fake boyfriend.
"Negative. But I will sign it. I know your agent wouldn't agree to modify some aspects of this contract." You tries to look confident but you actually didn't expect Mr. Pascal to come.
"What modifications?" Pedro speaks curiously, looking at you fixedly which makes you a little nervous.
"If we're going to pretend to date, you're going to have to actually pretend to be my boyfriend. I don't want to be the only one trying. I saw that in the contract, I will have to be your fake girlfriend even during family moments." You speak almost stuttering. Damn, there's no way to pretend to be casual in front of Pedro.
"That, I can do. Of course, we only have my spare moments. It's important to me that my family also thinks that what we have is real." Pascal speaks next to you. In fact you two are in a shopping mall parking lot. He's wearing a cap and a hoodie, so you think no one will probably notice. It helps that your meeting is happening in the early hours of the morning, when there is hardly any movement.
"Another thing I would like to ask is that the end of our relationship be something mutually agreed upon. Before you misunderstand me, I will not refuse to end our false relationship.I just want to be warned in advance and be able to determine how we are going to fake our end." You say, looking into his eyes. He appears to be carefully analyzing your request.
"As long as you know that when it's over, it's over. But I think it's fair that you say something about our breakup. Our fake breakup." Pascal seems to want a confirmation that you understand the fact that everything will be fake.
"And one last thing, after we're done pretending all of this. I don't want to receive any more financial compensation for this." This was perhaps the information that surprised him the most.
"You don't have to do this, it's only fair that you get paid for your work." He speaks as if he finds your request strange.
"You said exactly the right thing, getting paid for my work. My job is to fake date you and when it ends, it's like being fired. See, do I know how to see things professionally? No need being afraid that I won't be able to be a professional just because..." You hesitate to say the first thing that came in your mind.
"Just because?" Pedro questions, approaching you who is afraid to say what you are thinking.
"Just because I'm clearly your fan. But I have to be honest, I need financial stability more than taking advantage of our situation. As soon as I'm done playing your girlfriend,I'm going to focus my strength on having a normal steady job and getting on with my life." You won't admit your crush on him so easily, but the truth is that you really need this opportunity.
"I will do everything in my power to meet your demands. But you know this will mean that another contract will have to be made." Pascal says while holding his hands in his pocket.
"Until then, you'll have to trust my word. I'll be your fake girlfriend with all the perks and bonuses of that situation." You say, extending your hand to Pedro, who extend his hand. You two shake your hands together as if making a deal. Until you two hear a strange noise, from a curious person who probably knows no limits.
"Want to do something risky?" Mr. Pascal says while we are still practically holding hands.
"What?" You ask curiously, since you thought he would want to hide. He then pulls you close to him and gives you a hug. A long hug that seems very tender. When he stops hugging you, he kisses your forehead as if he really were your boyfriend.
"See you tomorrow, girlfriend. Everything you need will be ready tomorrow." He speaks and heads towards the car. Whoever was watching us leaves with him. And you go home quickly.
Where Are You?
Summary: Yuu stopped showing up in the HoM mainly because of the canon story still processing. This took place before and during Book 7.
Note: Gender-neutral Yuu (can use your Yuu oc for this)
It has been an exhausting day in school for Yuu. They just dealt with Idia's and Ortho's overblot a few weeks ago, and now Yuu has started to gain awareness. They notice how each overblot resembles the Great Seven's by the vivid dreams they are having, and now worrying for the next one.
"*Sigh* I need to get ready for work. Just need to rest for a while before dinner."
As minutes went by, Grim woke up Yuu to remind them that it's about to be dinner time, well, mainly to remind them of his tuna. Yuu couldn't blame Grim for this one, he did get kidnapped and probably never eaten his favorite food.
"Sure, Grim. Let's go to Mr. Sam's shop. Maybe get more than three this time."
"Fnagh? You will?"
"Yes, I have been saving up from my job. Remember?"
"Oh yeah."
"Well then, let's go in a hurry as I have to go to work in about an hour."
*
*
*
In the House of Mouse, Yuu serves the food to the great sevens as they are the only waiter who wasn't afraid of them. Also the fact they can handle it. Yuu also knows about their evil deeds from their vivid dreams, but after dealing with the OB boys, they kind of got used to them and see the similarities between them.
After their work hours, they are on their break so they went to the seven's table to chat with them.
"So Yuu, how's your day in Night Raven College?" (QoH)
"Busy as the upcoming exams are coming next month."
"If you need help, you can ask one of your classmates. Why not ask Azul? I'm sure he'll help you without paying any debt." (Ursula)
"I'm pretty sure they'll ask Riddle as they are not what they call "shady" Ursula." (QoH)
"Aren't you forgetting that Leona is wiser than those two. He's even older than those brats." (Scar)
'Oh boy, here we go.'
"Oh wait! I forgot to mention that I won't be able to come back to work."
"So when will you be back from your exams?" (EQ)
"I would say about a week or two. I'm not sure how long it'll take considering it's a different school system from my home world, but I know it won't take long."
During the conversation, Yuu didn't bring up another overblot incident, which happened to be the shroud brothers. They didn't want to make them worried, but Yuu still needs to tell them about their vivid dreams and know the truth about them. They just need to wait until the time is right.
After hours pass, the clubhouse is about to close. Yuu farewell to the great sevens and the other disney characters as they left. Mickey congrat them and gave them their paycheck of 5,000 thuamarks.
"Thank you, Mickey."
"No problem, Yuu."
"By the way Mickey, I won't be able to work in the next couple of weeks. I have an upcoming exam so I would need time to study and a small break as well."
"Oh okay, thank you for reminding me, Yuu. Remember to take it easy. I'll have to tell the other staff about it."
"No worries, I also told the great sevens about it. I'm sure the rest will understand my situation."
"Okie dokie! Good night, Yuu."
Little does Yuu know this might be the last time they see the rest of the disney characters again.
________________
After a couple of weeks, Mickey and the staff were able to work knowing Yuu is busy with their education. There was some mischief going around, but it was only from Pete, and one of the great seven's shows up one time only. So far, everything seems normal. Nothing can go wrong… right?
It's been about a month, and the whole House of Mouse Club was panicking. Yuu should have been done with the exams. Where are they? Did something happen to them?
Of course it wouldn't make sense, Yuu wouldn't just quit their job as they need money to buy their needs or send a message to Mickey or anyone to let them know.
Even the great seven's were wondering what happened to them. Someone like Maleficent, who has access to travel to Twisted Wonderland world only to find out she can't.
 As if there is a barrier that she can't enter. That's when things are going downhill.
Mickey and his friends try to calm everyone down, but nothing seems to work. Until the lights went dim, the front stage, the screen went black. Then the loading screen started, which is not just any loading screen but the twisted wonderland loading screen. Everyone then quieted down as they sat down at their table as they watched how book 7 started.
*
* half an hour later…
*
With all there is, the screen went black again. With half of them, questions to what just happened and the sleeping beauty cast, now know what's going to happen next.
Then again, 2 months later, the theater screen went black and the twst loading screen play. Now playing Book 7, chapter 2.
"Hey Mal, do you know what's going on?" (Hades)
"How I'm I supposed to know? I can't enter Twisted Wonderland because the canon story is happening so I can't interfere." (Maleficent)
"But do you know what will happen? This is where he will began to overblot." (Jafar)
"Let's just watch it. There's no way my descendant won't-" (Maleficent)
*Malleus OB by end*
"..." (Maleficent)
"You were saying~?" (Scar)
"Shut up." (Maleficent)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I listened to Myra’s slow breathing. Her mom had taken us out to dinner at a fancy vegan restaurant to celebrate Myra’s birthday and then we’d watched a movie. It was tradition. It had been a nice day until we were in bed and Myra started another tirade against the popular kids in school.
Tumblr media
I didn’t know what to say. She still didn’t know about the party last weekend, and I didn’t want to argue with her but I couldn’t quite bring myself to agree with her anymore. She ended up giving me the silent treatment until she fell asleep.
Tumblr media
I quietly got up and went to the bathroom. It was dark, but Myra and I had been best friends since kindergarten when her parents moved to Copperdale so her dad could work with my dad. I knew their house like it was my own.
Tumblr media
I washed my hands and looked at myself in the mirror. Was it really so bad to want more friends? To be a part of a group? Maybe I really was just a superficial person who wanted everyone to like me. I definitely wanted Oscar to like me. We hadn’t kissed since the party but we were messaging on Social Bunny every day, and yesterday we’d locked eyes across the hallway and I had to look away before Myra noticed.
Tumblr media
The lights were still on downstairs. Myra’s mom never went to bed before her dad came home from the hospital. My own mom did the same.
I quietly walked down the stairs and Daria looked up from her laptop.
Tumblr media
“Can’t sleep? Is Myra snoring again?”
“No, I’m just thinking a lot.”
“Want to talk about it?”
Tumblr media
I told her about the Spooky Day party. Somehow it had always been much easier to talk to Myra’s parents than to my own.
I did leave out the part about Oscar though.
Tumblr media
“So since then I’ve been posting a few pictures of other costumes I’ve made. And now some people are asking for tips and I thought it would be fun to maybe make a channel and stream the process or something. Or make tutorials and post them online.”
Tumblr media
“That sounds like a great idea! I’ve always been impressed with the stuff you come up with.”
“But what if Myra sees it as me just trying to be popular?”
Tumblr media
“And what exactly is wrong with being popular? She should be supporting you in whatever makes you happy. Myra has a lot of strong opinions, Griffin stubbornly insists she gets it from me. But don’t let her hold you back.”
Tumblr media
“Myra says having people like you online is dumb because they’re not real friends anyway.”
“Sometimes I think my darling daughter forgets what I do.”
Daria gestured towards her computer.
Tumblr media
“My podcast has a couple hundred thousand listeners. Are they all my friends? No. But some of them have actually become friends, because sharing what you love with a community that likes the same thing is a great way to meet people. You can even teach others and inspire them to share their own passions. I think you would do great, and I know you’re talented. But don’t take it from me, take if from those girls at school, because I’m probably too old and hopelessly uncool to listen to.”
Tumblr media
I couldn’t help but smile. Daria was the coolest person I knew, second only to my grandpa Conrad. They didn’t care what people thought about them, but unlike Myra, they also didn’t spend hours talking about how little they supposedly cared.
Daria was telling me all about her podcasting gear when Myra’s father, Griffin, came home.
Tumblr media
“Evening, my love. Oh, hey Julia, you’re up late.”
“Hey Griffin. You’re right, I should probably go to bed.”
Tumblr media
“Alright, let us know if Myra’s snoring gets too bad, we still have spare earplugs.”
He winked at me.
Tumblr media
“And remember, we love to see what you do, Julia. So you’re guaranteed at least two followers who are also real friends.”
She stood, but then leaned down and kissed my forehead, just like she used to do when Myra and I were little.
Tumblr media
“Goodnight, kiddo. Don’t let anyone tell you how to live your life, OK? Not even my dear daughter. Always be yourself. And if you want more tips on getting a proper recording setup, just ask me.”
