I’ve thrown myself head first into icemav recently so I can ABSOLUTELY rec some of my favorite fics I've read so far!!

When We Get Around to Talking About It by @compacflt is the pièce de résistance of icemav fiction I think, for me personally. It's masterfully written and nuanced and just so heartbreaking. the characterization feels so true to how these men would really be in real life and how they would deal with coming to terms with their feelings for each other and sexuality while being in the navy. and as if 90,424 words of beautiful prose wasn't enough of a gift, there is also a sequel/other stories called Debriefing (& Other Stories) which includes a more truncated version of the original but from mav's pov which is just 🤌🏻🤌🏻

Dreams of Impact by thecarlysutra is also very good. It involves a little supernatural flavor, which I enjoy, and revolves around how their lives could be different if they'd just made one single different choice.

come the same colors by susiecarter is a fav. It's a classic 'you got hurt and it's made me reckon with how I really feel about you, but I haven't figured out how to express that'. So basically it's amazing. this author also has a great catalogue of icemav, so it's really a jumping point to read all of her great work. A Shared Cup is another personal fav of mine from this author. it involves soul telepathic bonds. soooo good

a binary star by vannral is a really yummy piece of fanfic. the first line of the description is the perfect primer for how great the rest of the fic is: "Ice hasn’t ever given much thought to celestial things up in the sky but he knows that Maverick burns like one." like. c'monnnn

i'll ride in this life with you by sassenach082 is an ice and mav raise bradley after carol passes away fic, and it's full of sooo much lovely hurt/comfort that is so sweet it will rot your teeth. any fic with a plethora of baby bradley is going to be good for me

I saw beauty to the north by sortalively (tiisis) is a delayed injury fic set post TG:M. It has a lot of rooster and ice and mav reconciling in it which I'm a sucker for. and, if you like the exploration of rooster and mav's relationship (I'm a sucker for parental figure fics lets not unpack that) this author has some greaaaaaaaat fics on their page for that!

cloaked in the bruises of our failures by faerie_ground will rip your heart out. It takes the mission from TG:M and moves it to the 80s with our favorite class of '86 being trained to fly it, all while Mav and Ice are a few years post a messy 'break-up'. I should warn you that this one comes with a trigger warned from sexual assault from a person of authority to an employee, so if you aren't interested in that maybe skip this one. It is so beautiful though and treats the subject with the respect it deserves. slithered here from eden (just to sit outside your door) is another by this author that is very good and I am waiting patiently for an update

a higher fidelity by basedchamp is a classic slowburn with ice and mav developing their friendship before they realize their feelings for one another

no brighter diamond by qin_ling is a wonderful 'five times...' fic and it's so good. Everything by this author is fantastic so you should def check out their other stuff. as lions is about time travel. delish.

You're Gonna Be The One That Saves Me by an orphan_account is amazing. It's got mav struggling post hop 31 and Ice being there to offer emotional support and more if you know what I mean

'Til I Understand by Katastrophe (Karrington) is about Mav punching out of dark star and kind of fills in some blanks about what his loved ones went through while he was missing. Katastrophe is another author with a large catalogue to just go crazy in

PurpleArrowzandLeather has 153 tg fics on their page with a huge variety, some icemav, some flyboys of '86 (which I adore, I love fics showing their friendship). you can get lost in their page for a while haha. they also have their bookmarks public! so you can dig around in there, too

Sailor's Delight by saurora_borealis can be read as ice and mav or icemav and I think we both know which one I infer it as. Mal de Mer by them is like that, too

baby, baby, i'd get down on my knees for you by boasamishipper and simplecoffee is 'five times mav proposes and one time ice says yes' fic. It's sweet as candy

Is this arguably too long a response? yes. are all of these worth the read? also yes

storykeepers Jesus is the only valid Jesus

he’s the best, this series was the best, and I love love love the way they did it.

From a Watsonian perspective it’s Ben the baker telling these kids the stories, and there’s no need to embellish things because the true stories are both too important for that, and astonishing enough on their own! The kids aren’t overfamiliar with the events —for the younger ones especially they’re hearing it for the very first time, often in contexts where they can apply Jesus’ teachings directly— and there’s no need to add extraneous details to keep their attention. But from a Doylist perspective rather than draw out the stories to a reasonable length for a video by inventing names and backstories for the people in them to characterize them, Storykeepers set the historical record of Jesus within historical fiction about a different period of church history. Someone growing up in a Sunday School setting may have been told the stories in the gospels so often they know the details by heart, but by setting this series up as first century Christians telling each other the stories and giving kids a picture of what living as a Christian under persecution looked like, I think it really helps put their importance into perspective.

and I think that lack of embellishment in the stories makes a difference.

#I’ve read historical fiction which involves adding details to things we don’t know about to flesh out characters #And even some biblical historical fiction like this *can* be done well. Really well sometimes!#But I do think the lack of any of that in The Storykeepers is what sets it apart #And okay maybe I’ve always loved adventure stories and spies and secret agent stuff and goodness me in a way this series just had it all #Or maybe it was more formative for my tastes than I realized 👀#It’s been years since I’ve seen any so would I see it the same way if I watched it now? Not sure. It could be my memory is painting it as #better than it was (but I doubt it)#The Storykeepers

Oughhhhgh Haruka getting more confident from hanging out with everyone and getting such positive feedback… I’d imagine the back to back innocent verdict and night of compliments would do wonders for his psyche ;-; And same for Muu and Amane! Minus the inno verdict, but the sudden influx of explicit compliments and acknowledgement of “hey, that was fucked up what they did to you, okay?” I wonder if there’s any awkwardness since After Pain directly follows Bring it On, but I like to imagine Fuuta and Muu have a deeper talk about things in private (and maybe Muu hesitantly mentions her involvement with Rei in preparation for INMF…)

Damn, who’s going to give the sex talk to the kids after Yuno’s vide-- Shidou. Sidou does. Without hesitation. They have to stop him because no one wants to hear it and everyone there already understands the basics.I love the idea of she, Mahiru, Muu, and designer Mikoto chatting about everyone’s fashion sense (I can imagine them poking fun at Fuuta’s tracksuit and Shidou’s patterned shirts.) And planning shopping trips that include everyone!!! Amane and Kotoko are given no choice in the matter, and a lot of the guys are genuinely interested in coming along.

Awww, I love the thought of Haruka getting into a “boy” interest with Fuuta and Mikoto -- he never knew what it was like to have brothers but he’s really enjoying it <3 (Also I’m cracking up over Fuuta trying desperately to convince them “it’s not cringe!!!”)

ASDFSDF Mappi just straight up sobbing and Mikoto handing her tissues 😂 But yes, she also gets choked up during Magic and Amane can’t figure out why. This begins the adults’ efforts to get her out of whatever situation she’s currently in (which Jackalope was already half-working on, but is definitely spurred on by several angry almost-murderers demanding he get it done now.)

I do like that idea of Red more comfortable with showing skin than Blue. (I know people are very emotional about the stalker theory, but I personally never took it in a harmful way. I always enjoyed how it was a symbol of stripping away everything else until you’re left with your true, whole self.) So I like to think that Blue feels too exposed, but Red/Green are the ones who pitched it in a symbolic sense!

I’m losing my mind at Kotoko/Kazui/Red talking about sparring. Everyone else is like “hell yeah, let’s see it!” and Shidou just sitting there like “you all are going to be the death of me. You are NOT fighting.” Because I really want to think about it happening, I’ll say they manage to sneak away at least once and nearly break a prop in the process, to which even Jackalope shuts them down.

I think they all manage to get pretty serious again by the time T2 rolls around, but the hiatus is filled with a lot of sweet moments and healing conversations between everyone. Also, making so many plans for the future helps keep them sane when some of the project immersion gets a bit too real. Whenever they start realizing they might be condemned for their actions and worried that they’re too broken/they’re life is ruined, they come back to those plans and relax a bit.

Absolutely no pressure, but I would love to hear your T2 thoughts! 👀👀👀 I’m so incredibly grateful you’ve taken the time to share your ideas -- from the very beginning this au has been a big collaboration, so it’s super fun bouncing ideas around :D

I tend to not really buy into any "Eddie is currently aware of his feelings and pining" theories because I think they come with looking too much into things that are too subtle to make it satisfying to me personally as a pining arc, but at the same time sometimes I just sit and think about the heart eyes shot in 5x01 and the scene of him seeing Buck in the bar in 5x11 and it's like hm....so what's all this then...

ok so i know im very behind on most comic lore, but this year's women of marvel got added to unlimited finally so i was looking through it! (admittedly i was mostly just glancing through for any signs of medusa)

but anyways.... lineage is in it?

which i guess isn't THAT weird because he's in the ms marvel section and there's a pretty limited pool of inhuman villains, but. i thought lineage was dead?? is he not dead??

he got arrested in the uncanny inhumans annual alongside the unspoken and maximus, presumably taken to attilan (because why wouldn't they all be taken to attilan?)

so lineage should be in prison in attilan, right?? and then the only things after this are royals and death of the inhumans... and since doti mentions EVERYBODY in the city was killed/captured....

did lineage get out in a ms marvel comic? did they revive him? did they just... forget?

I like thinking of like, random ideas and trying to figure out how it would be implemented in the game itself, and one stuck in my head today is a player getting a perma-death wound or something, but Bad's reaper job let him go and sort of guide them away from actually dying (very much just barely breaking his reaper code- they're not dead yet, but they are so close he probably shouldn't be involved, but he can't bring himself to let a friend die without trying)

And I just got this mental image of the scenes of that limbo area being pre-recorded and played by the admin for the specific players involved. But the reason it is pre-recorded is... the videos are dubbed in the language of the streamer.

So like, in Bad's video they are both speaking English, but in the other person's video they are both speaking French or Spanish or Portuguese

Because this is an afterlife of sorts and the language barrier doesn't exist (there would probably be a line like 'wait, Bad, how are you speaking x language?' 'I'm not, it just seems that way here')

It would be a huuuuuuge amount of work because Bad doesn't speak any of the other languages, but can you imagine how cool it would be to see? *^*

I also imagine this would be a one off thing cause RP-wise the powers that be would never let Bad pull that stunt again, and meta-wise the work to make it happen just wouldn't be feasible.

I dunno, fun and silly ideas 😆

if it weren’t for second chances by alasse • an AU where Bobby adopts a teenage Buck, this was very sweet and healing

you give yourself away by woodchoc_magnum • season 6 spec fic, Buck spirals into breakdown, this broke my heart and then put it back together

this must be the place by euadnes • an AU where Buck gets shot too, very beautifully written fic about healing and recovery

The Best Lie is a Truth (My Best Mask is My Face) by letmetellyouaboutmyfeels • fake relationship, love a good fake relationship fic, this was excellent
