Uhh hm. Ok so I don’t think that the fandom on here mischaracterizes any of the characters horribly. (At least not since all of the books have been out.)

But in general (mostly based on tiktok/instagram/goodreads)…

I think people ignore the complexities of Juliette’s character a bit and just paint her as a girlboss knifewife TM.

I’ve also seen people misread Roma as a bland cardboard cutout YA love interest TM. Which is. Not correct.

I have seen people who thought Benedikt and Marshall were straight and shipped them with Rosalind and Celia. Which is just completely baffling to me. Because how.

Then I’ve also seen some pretty weird biphobic mischaracterizations of Orion and generally some pretty shallow reads of his character that I don’t love.

Pre fhh I definitely mischaracterized Oliver a bit. And I guess we do kind of make a couple tiny details of his character his entire personality now. But I don’t think it’s really genuine mischaracterization since I don’t think anyone genuinely sees him like that.

Ik I also mischaracterized Silas a bit pre fhh since I wasn’t expecting him to be such a driving force in the plot or for him to stand up for himself like he did. I don’t know that every characterization of him I’ve seen since fhh necessarily reflects that, but it was also something that he character developmented into so I wouldn’t say it’s a mischaracterization exactly.

Not mischaracterization exactly but I have seen people who didn’t realize Celia was trans? Which isn’t bad because if you’re not reading super closely it can be easy to miss at first. But I don’t love it when people still call her by her dead sister’s name post OVE.

We thought Phoebe was taller than she actually is since she’s described as short in flf but I’m not sure that Chloe Gong actually knows how tall any of the characters are either. So. Oh well.

I’ve seen people call Silas boring and clingy and say that he needs to set boundaries. The first two are incorrect. That is a declarative statement because I’m right. The last one is perplexing because he did?? He literally put Phoebe in jail???

I think Alisa’s grief maybe gets glossed over a little bit, but honestly I don’t think it’s covered in the books (more flf than fhh) as much as it could be.

This is more my interpretation so I don’t know that this counts as mischaracterization exactly, but now that I think about it, I really don’t think Phoebe cares about fashion or anything adjacent to that that gets ascribed to her sometimes. I think the vast majority of that is the front that she’s putting on. I think this can be seen in the state of her room when Alisa starts digging through her stuff in fhh and also how she refers to what she’s wearing as “frivolous” in the flf epilogue.

This isn’t really an answer but oh well.

I’m thinking about the luring people with holoforms thing again from that other ask. That’s got to be one of my favorite troupes. I think it would be interesting if they used some sort of calmer, making their targets a little more docile. Kind of similar to I’ll Take Better Care of You.

Uugghhhhnmmm drabble about it \/

People have been going missing in your city lately. It’s a little worrying, but the police have a handle on it. That’s what they said in the news, at least. Either way, as you sit at your local bar, you can’t help but feel a little tense about the guy sitting next to you. It’s not in a creepy way, not really, but who goes to a bar dressed like he just jumped out of the 80’s? His bright colored clothes and strange demeanor put you off, but as he starts to make conversation his weirdness starts to feel less apparent.

The more you talk the more you like him. He’s sweet, funny, a bit obnoxious, but who isn’t at this hour? He doesn’t tell you his name, and you don’t ask. It feels like you’ve known him forever. Him and his weird hair. At some point, he invites you out. He wants to go “somewhere special”. Feeling like you could trust him with anything, you agree. The two of you load into an Uber, he sets the destination. While you leave, a bright red and orange sports car follows, but you didn’t pay it much mind. It isn’t until you finally arrive at your “special place” that you begin to feel uneasy again.

You comment on the sports car following you around, but he brushes it off, saying something about how cool it looks. The place he took you is largely empty, not many buildings around. A queasy feeling builds in your stomach. Why did you trust him to bring you out here?

You stumble a bit, smile fading. You make an excuse to leave, but when you turn to look at him his eyes flicker. Actually, all of him flickers. Like a badly CGI’d hologram in a shitty movie. Mind clearer than ever you begin to wordlessly move away. Unfortunately, by then it’s too late. Your legs are shaky from fear but that only intensifies when something very, very large begins to move.

The sports car.

Now you feel the need to run. And you do, however short of an escape attempt was. Your body is quickly grabbed by something, the floor starts to grow smaller beneath you. You scream to no avail.

“Sorry bud, there’s no one else here to hear you.”

Stark, blue lights flash onto your face, temporarily blinding you.

“You’re so cute from up close like this! Hah, I should’ve done this sooner.”

Your eyes adjust to see a robotic face grinning out you with sharp, fanged teeth. The stress in your body instantly explodes and you struggle from something you understand to be a hand- though that is where your understanding of the situation ends.

“Ah, you’re going to love it with me. Promise. Come on, little buddy.”

He squeezes you gently. Something soft and tranquil falls over your mind, causing your struggling to stop without your permission. Your body grows tired and your muscles feel like stone. Your thoughts are the last to go out, simply wondering where you would end up now.

The line “you’re so cute from up close like this” made my stomach flip and even rewriting it for my response here made it flip AGAIN. GOD I love this so much. This is totally something Rodimus would do, gaining your trust and luring you to somewhere empty to where you can become his beloved little pet. You were so nice to him when you chatted at the bar, he knew you’d be the perfect little guy to have around the ship!

And god omg I love the idea that even as he held a conversation with you in holoform, he saw it no more as a silly game. He knew you were coming with him by the end of the night, but he wanted a peek at what human life was like. And it was so adorable, what humans seemed to busy themselves with. So simple. So quaint. But he was about to bring you into a much bigger world. Perhaps it may have been something behind your understanding, but he would be the one to guide you through it. It was his responsibility as a pet owner, after all <333

Okay i know I keep talking about how much I’m enjoying this month’s prompt, but it is starting to get out of hand so I had to just end it. There’s like so much I could add to and ramble about, like this is definitely a long game one (I mean they’re always meant to be slowburn but I’m impatient), the potential for drama and everyone else getting into their business! The denial, the whole fuck it we ball, adding different characters and playing with the dynamics! There’s just a lot okay, and this is only one of the sports I love. I’ve already plotted in my mind the other two sports AU’s and the vibes and roles they have there is just everything to me. I’m well aware no one cares, and I do want to finish my WIPs before I even think about starting a whole sports series. But yeah, I’m just very excited cause my fandom is colliding and it’s so self indulgent. Even more so than anything else I’ve ever written. My American is definitely showing and I don’t even have to try and tone it down, it’s part of the fic, I get to be as biased as I want with absolutely no shame. Love this for me <3

Update: what a wonderful sports day, and I finished the October prompts! Which means I get to focus on my WIPs hopefully… I’ve got a lot of fun things to do this month so I’ll probably be distracted. But I’m hopeful I’ll finally be done with IWICL, or at the very least update Devour (I’m like two chapters ahead I believe but I haven’t edited, so I’ll have to get on that.)

#cynply rambling #I always get weird looks when people find out I’m into sports and not just as a casual fan #like my friends get it and love seeing me get excited but it’s also terrible cause I will scream and cry in public too #and I know tumblr hates it and I don’t exactly fit in with the sports side here either #so i constantly feel out of place like I’m too crazy which fair but I also have no chill in general #and really with all the negativity I receive from it I really shouldn’t be a fan anymore #not to mention it is my most toxic fandom #but I just can’t let it go. it’s like telling me to stop listening to music. impossible #so yeah make fun or continue to ignore me whatever. once upon a time i liked a ship for what it was and then i saw how the fandom treated it and now i have visceral hatred towards it (harsh but not far off)

#leah.txt #normal i swear #it’s like i’m just so tired of seeing it and i think it’s cause a lot of the time people mischaracterise the characters involved so often #when talking about it and i hate it. i’m being vague cause don’t want it showing up anywhere. but like in canon the concept is so good and #so juicy even though i am not really a fan of like enemies/lovers kinda tropes. slash cause it’s more lovers to enemies but were always #technically enemies but real bonds formed on accident and that always runs deep even after the fact etc etc it’s such a good ship in concep #and then you see the fandom and go ah you’ve made it insufferable to me now. it gets reduced to just like the most i mean fandomy shit #it happens so often with me now that it’s like i need to not look at tags ever actually akdjsjsksns #so so vague but the concept of falling in love and fraternising when you shouldn’t and so many elements of you are going to betray this #person when the time comes but you can’t help falling for them and the other side being i shouldn’t be falling for this guy he’s my #superior officer but it’s like no he’s actually not and he’s a mole and he’s going to kill you all off. and then running for him when he #gets injured. that’s so. even after he tells you that you what his plans were. still caring. but like. out of anger and hurt you bruised hi #ego and insulted him and that starts big revenge run of like someone who can’t take criticism or being made to feel lesser… but you have to #hunt him down even if you still hold feelings for him he is everything you stood against and were fighting and now you’re fighting him when #you loved him. irl you know i hate this shit and betrayal and lying and all that you know this i’m just talking in fiction it’s got so many #layers. having to kill the man you once loved because he became everything he was against and he developed delusions and lost his mind. Ok I know this made it into the actual episode but just taking the opportunity to talk about it. “It’s like reminiscing about an abusive relationship” feels like such a loaded thing to say. I wonder if she was thinking about Crowley’s father for a second there.

#I’m not sure if we really know just how bad the situation was between Rowena and Crowley’s father actually was.#Because at this point I’m thinking the 0rgy story was pure deflection on her part as opposed to a half-truth #(Obviously it’s because these writers don’t care about consistency and change shit all the time but like. From an in-universe pov)#Because it *could* have been that the 0rgy happened and then she found the guy she’d been with and he didn’t take responsibility #But what if their relationship started before that. Or if there was no 0rgy. I mean when you think about a young unmarried medieval girl #And it’s implied she only got into witchcraft AFTER Fergus was born isn’t it?#She only talked seriously and truthfully about Crowley’s father when Crowley compelled her to do so and didn’t give much detail #beyond the abandonment.
