lawlight fic rec list

♡ 1. i’m drowning; please save me: L looks at Yagami Light and drowns. There is no other way to put it. As the days pass and blend into weeks, L looks at Yagami Light sitting next to him, the harsh lines of his face creased and determined, and he swallows water.

great characterization, always makes me very emo, and is probably a pretty major influence on my writing. one shot. 1,817 words.

2. always waiting for you just to cut to the bone: And then, breaking through the pounding in his head he hears what would be the last words out of that wretched man’s lips.

fic for teh death note drama (2016) canon! title is unfortunately from a t*ylor sw*ft song (/silly) but this fic is so good and sad.

3. Our Bodies, Possessed By Light: L. Lawliet is a gifted photographer who believes he has understood the light and its secrets. Light Yagami is a young, unstable and slightly crooked model. Together, they kill time.

modeling and photography au. make sure to read all teh tags and warnings for this one; there’s nothing gross, but some potentially triggering subjects for some people are in here. multi chapter. 81,218 words.

4. Hearts and Spades: Which would you choose? Love or death? RaitoL, slight AU.

short but sweet piece featuring that classic fanfiction dot net era vibe, an emo-ass playing card metaphor (/pos), and a recounting of l’s death scene that made me sad over him all over again (also /pos). and also light being obnoxious, but it’s death note, so that’s usually a given, lol. one shot. 1,801 words.

5. Not Quite Drowning: Sometimes Light ponders happiness. L/Light

a short lawlight and light character study. i like it a lot, and i don’t usually like light, so that should tell you something about how well i think it’s written! one shot. 424 words.

♡ 6. Water, water, water: In the bath, they forget they’re a detective and a suspect; they remove these identities along with their clothes, layer by layer until there are only the handcuffs left. And them; facing the other in the eerie calmness of their bathroom.

At least, it’s how Light sees it.

i really love this one! make sure to read teh tags, as eating disorders and drugs are mentioned, for example. angst with a happy ending! one shot. 3,504 words.

1. Silver Bells: Silver bells...silver bells...

They’ve made it. Everything is okay now, when they’re dancing in the candlelight.

really, really cute! i recommend it as a palate cleanser to make you feel better after reading a sad one, lol. one shot. 1,255 words.

just a cute little new year’s eve lawlight fireworks show! this one is also from 2009 which is kinda cool to me, haha. i like this author’s descriptive language a lot. one shot. 507 words.

♡ 3. Do Gay Penguins Go to Hell?: Too many New Year snacks bring about a family discussion between L, Raito and their daughter about healthy diet, common sayings and nature of good and evil. And gay penguins, of course. AU

a really darling kid fic, based on teh stupid, homophobic controversy over that adorable kids’ book about teh gay penguin couple. one shot. 3,791 words.

4. A Feeling: It's LxLight fluff! This takes place after Light was confined and lost his memories, chained to L. : D SO YUS. SOME FLUFF FOR YAH D: Hope you leik it :D

very cute “l and light cuddle and kiss” fic, written by a scene kid in 2008, which is extra points with me! one shot. 1,006 words.

Q: Did Mario and Luigi come from Earth like in canon or have they always been in the fantasy world?

It’s a passing mention in Chapter 1, but Mario and Luigi grew up in an orphanage that still sends them a monthly stipend (allowance). They’ve always been a part of this Regency-era Mushroom Kingdom, but are still outcasts in a way.

Q: Is Luigi allergic to flowers?

Not all flowers, just the really pollen-y and smelly ones (like lilies).

Q: How tall are Luigi and Bowser?

Luigi is 5’8” (~172cm) and Bowser is 6’4” (~193cm) For a visual reference:

Q: Are we gonna get Bowuigi smut??

Waterho: There will absolutely be smut. GreyEnnuigi can only stop me for so long. 😈 GreyEnnuigi: Don’t worry; the Explicit Sexual Content and Dom/sub tags are not just for show (and note that we did not add the Rape/Non-con archive warning). Consensual spicy times will come! And so will Bowser and Luigi!

Q: Could you give a summary of the smut in the chapter notes if it’s plot-relevant?

The smut will be plot-relevant at some points, so we can definitely do this.

Q: Will Luigi get his own emotional support animal for his anxiety (like Polterpup)?

Waterho: Does Bowser count as an emotional support animal? GreyEnnuigi: We haven’t planned for a Polterpup in this story, as there’s already a fair bit going on plotwise. Putting a dog into the mix might well and truly throw us off the rails. ;)

Q: Will Luigi be able to overcome his anxiety? I want to see Luigi put someone in their place after they insulted him.

Luigi actually does this during the announcement dinner in Chapter 8 in this exchange with Lord Booking: Lord Booking paled a bit, his mouth turning into a slight frown. “Indeed. Such a delicate flower must be hidden away, for exposure to that world would surely wither it.” […] [Luigi] straightened himself up, still holding Lord Koopa’s hand open in both of his own, then addressed Lord Booking directly: “Some flowers may thrive in the shade and wilt in the sun, but it does not make them any less a part of this world, Lord Booking.” Lord Booking is implying that Bowser is hiding Luigi away because he’s a commoner in a noble’s world and can’t handle the change. Luigi’s response is essentially, “Yeah, I’m a commoner and I’ve lived my life differently, but that doesn’t mean I don’t belong here.” Don’t worry, we like character growth in this house. ;) GreyEnnuigi: On the same sort of subject, if you ever have questions about the fancy Regency language, don’t be afraid to ask! It’s very flowery and can be complicated, especially if English isn’t your first language. I’d be happy to “translate” any passages for you into modern English.

Q: Is there going to be a good or bad ending?

There is going to be a happy ending! This is a fairytale retelling, after all. ;)

Q: You started this fic as a joke, but now it’s not a joke anymore. How did that conversation happen?

A few things to note before we answer this: 1. GreyEnnuigi has wanted to write a Regency AU for a while. 2. We saw the Mario movie together and started reading Bowuigi fics because we couldn’t get enough. 3. We noticed that a lot of Bowuigi fics had a Beauty and the Beast theme. Q: What is it like making a chapter for this fic?

Waterho: basically, I supply the maladaptive daydreaming, and GreyEnnuigi supplies the prose and structure. Then we add it up and try to create a somewhat cohesive narrative. Many of our conversations these days start with “ok listen….” GreyEnnuigi: We have the overall plot planned out and most of it outlined, so we already know what main plot events we want to happen in each chapter. After that it’s a matter of filling the rest of the chapter by fleshing out the characters, doing a bit of worldbuilding, and making sure we’re progressing all the relationships properly. This usually happens with Waterho proposing a specific scenario, then we ask ourselves how this and that character would react and does that fit with the plot, and then we agree on how the situation unfolds. Then I write it all out, Waterho tries to convince me to add fluff and smut too early, I rein it back in and write something more subtle, and then we review, edit, and post. Here’s an example of this sort of back-and-forth from our chat transcript: 23:00 GreyEnnuigi thinking I'm gonna start chapter 3 with Kamek confronting Bowser about Luigi, but what else should happen in ch 3 after that 23:00 Waterho Let’s see the part where bowser [redacted for spoiler reasons] 23:01 GreyEnnuigi ooh so soon?? 23:02 Waterho If we want to draw it out more we could push that part off 23:02 GreyEnnuigi i just don't want Bowser to be too soft at the beginning 23:02 GreyEnnuigi Luigi needs to wear him down first lol 23:02 Waterho Fair enough

Q: Is this fic definitely going to have 20 chapters?

With what we currently have planned and outlined, 20 chapters is our best estimate for how long the story will be. It’s very possible this will change, and if it does, it’s more likely that we’ll end up with more than 20 chapters as opposed to less.

Q: Is there a schedule for uploading chapters?

We don’t currently have a schedule and we’re just posting the chapters as we finish them. That being said, we’ve been on a pace of about 1 chapter every other day. That could definitely change, though, so don’t expect us to stick to that.

Q: In this world hetero is not seen as the default. Did you write it this way because you didn’t want to focus on the homosexuality topic but more on the Bowser/Luigi ship itself?

Short answer: Yes. Long answer: The concept of homosexuality being accepted in this AU came about as we were discussing the reason Bowser would accept Luigi in exchange for Peach as a spouse. If we were to follow realistic Regency-era ideologies, then it would be extremely unlikely for Bowser to take Luigi as a spouse as he is (i.e. a cis man). We wanted to follow the Beauty and the Beast storyline, which at its core is our protagonist falling in love with someone who is widely regarded as unlovable. It wouldn’t have made sense to include homophobia in the plot, and that wasn’t the story we wanted to tell. Also, the beauty of fiction is that we can make our own rules and do whatever the hell we want with it, so we did!

Hi! I just wanted to say I've been reading through Window Across the Galaxy - inching forward but reading it - and the way you write Rocket is so damn good. Though maybe I'm biased to hell and back because that is also exactly how I pictured pre-vol. 1 Rocket, haha.

The switching perspectives offer so much. I love how much they are misunderstanding each other.

Your work is inspiring me to want to work on my own wip OC fic. I've only just finished reading chapter 2 but I'm so hooked on Jolie and Rocket's tale. I love all these little snippets we get about her and her career as an artist/appraiser/restorer is so interesting.

A few questions, I know there are a lot of little references to the comics here and there, some I recognize from my own forays into reading those, and when I don't, I look it up because honestly, you add so much flavor and life to the worlds you write that I feel the need to know more. For the stuff that isn't a reference or at least a direct reference (as in a product from a known planet), how do you decide on names and other specifics? I personally long to do that in my writing but struggle with thinking things sound believable.

My other question is do you have any tips for writing Rocket? I know technically he hasn't said anything yet where I am in the story - semantics really, lol - but even through his thought process it sounds so much like him.

i’m gonna (try to) answer your questions behind the cut because I am a wordy bitch. also these questions are hard because i don’t often think about HOW my brain works so i will do my best.

but first i wanna say that i am SO excited & honored to have encouraged you to work on your own oc fic! if you end up posting here pleeease tag me ♡ and if not that’s okay too. when i started Window i thought it was going to be just for me and honestly it freed me up to do whatever the fuck i wanted, at my own pace, and that is part of what has kept it fun for me.

K BUCKLE UP THIS IS LENGTHY

so in terms of the shit I just make up (Glortho’s Equation, Spartaxian sugardrops, various fruits and foods and soap and recycling-compressors and other general NONSENSE). this is a layered process.

Almost everything I make up, I try to root in a canonical environment/planet, and I want it to make sense for the characters to HAVE it.

so eg, recycling-compressors came about because, like, they just need a practical way to store or get rid of trash. Are they jettisoning it into space every cycle? Dropping it on a landfill planet? Rocket’s comics-canon disdain for Earth + mentions of intergalactic human lifeform rights policies that Earth doesn’t honor leads me to belief that MOST space-folk embrace more sustainable practices. could be a recycling planet, but i didn’t want them needing to travel there every eight rotations or whatever so i decided having a compressor would allow them to have longer gaps between unloading. but like, you could do ANYTHING. maybe most intergalactic packaging is made from products that can be burnt as a clean universal fuel or something ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

similarly i wanted my best raccoon boy to have access to fish. but since he’s a broke-ass bounty hunter 90% of the time, it’s gotta be something inexpensive/accessible (or stealable) - which means it’s probably a cheap export from a planet with a lot of water. Hello, Morag (and the resulting Moraggian moonfish). Sometimes I’ll reference something already canonical in connection to something I fuckin made up just to increase the sense that all these things interplay with each other (zargnut-crusted moonfish sold by a street vendor on conjunction).

Sometimes I do the opposite. I try to imagine what a product from a planet would look like. eg Indigarran beeswax. I thought, what would Indigar export? It’s this gorgeous planet with a cathedral/palace/place of devotion made of glass. if i - an aesthetique lol - had a glass cathedral, I’d want that shit lit up with candles. Can you imagine how gorgeous that would be? Glimmering everywhere. That’s how i spent too much time dreaming up Indigarran beeswax ceremonial candles for a throwaway line somewhere deep in Window I think ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I also figure because of Kree imperialism in this region of the galaxy, a lot of shit is probably Xandaran. Relatedly if it’s a product associated with wealth, I’ll use Xandar or Spartax (also Atraxia but I think I made that planet up lol). I’ll use Asgard occasionally too but less often because it’s supposed to be at the other end of the galaxy. So if I’m referencing a luxury item, it USUALLY comes from one of these places.

For writing Rocket. I think @aliasrocket recently wrote something about this and I agree with like, every flawless thing they said. I listen to a lot of Rocket clips. I try to hear each spoken line in my head in his voice. Some verbs will end in a hard -ing, and some in a soft hanging -in’. I might also use a conjunction (even if it’s not a “usual” conjunction). Sometimes I use something like a liaison in French (I don’t know if there’s a word for it in English, but I basically smush two words together). Moreover, I’ll go back through Rocket’s dialogue on reread and just make sure I don’t go more than like 1-3 sentences without some kind of word-softening. Some examples:

“What’re you laughin’ at me for?”

“Why d’you wanna do that?”

In third-person narration from Rocket’s perspective (non-dialogue) i still try to use these sporadically, but nowhere near as often because I am trying to separate narrative voice from speaking voice just a little.

I also try to consider rocket’s frame of reference for everything from his perspective. What does he know about because he’s seen it? Heard of it? How did he see or hear it? did he learn about it from a fellow prisoner in the Kyln? Someone he did a job for in Conjunction? An alien refugee on earth? Iron Man? Did he steal it? Make it? Buy it? Was it given to him and by whom and why? How trustworthy is his source? How trustworthy does he think they are?

when did you watch bad buddy/join the fandom?

I watched it from the start, but somewhere around episode 3 I started actively looking into the fandom and by the end of ep4 I was already in a discord group and writing my first fanfiction. The rest, as they say, is history XD

I am a PatPran, InkPa enthusiast although I did also like the LouisSafe idea which is why i wrote a whole fic about them haha

As much as I love episode 5, episode 3 is probably the episode I’ve watched the most haha I just love watching Pran coming out of his shell (even if he does get crushed in the very next episode T-T)

The Rooftop comes in at number 1 every time, but also the fight in front of the apartment block just before it, the bus stop scene and guitar scene in ep3, the balcony scene in ep8, the bedroom scene in ep9, so many scenes in ep11, and everything after Pran turns up at the apartment in ep12. Serotonin factories every one. 

one thing you would change about the show if you could

I’d have liked Pat’s anger in episode 7 to have been dealt with a bit more definitely but they pulled it back by giving it proper consideration in episode 11.  Honestly I would have also loved more flashbacks to their pre-transfer era as well as a little more on Icy Pat, but I understand why we didn’t get them. 

what are your some of your favourite fanworks made by other people?

This is a difficult one for me! So I actually did a list of my favourite bad buddy edits here and also fanfics here and here plus I’m pretty sure I did another, but can I find them? No. So I’m gonna add to this by saying also anything by @miscellar (aworkingprinter on AO3).

Some of my own favourites? Well, that’s trickier haha! Probably A Fine Line Between Hormones and Home, The Space Pirate and the Officer of the Law and, just because it was my first fanfic in the fandom, He’s No Romeo.

Pancakes for Dinner by Lizzy McAlpine always makes me think of pining Pran, Heather by Conan Gray also gives huge Pran in episode 4/5 vibes. Alas I can’t think of one that screams Pat though I know I have thought that about songs before. No doubt I’ll be listening to a playlist tomorrow and be like “oh yeah, this one!”

Especially when I told him I’d do most of the legwork in painting and stuff in my unit. He takes off like, ten or fifteen percent of the rent? And he didn’t ask too many questions when I came in to look at the place, so.. I’m not complaining, honestly.” you take a drag of your cigarette and thump it out of your window, stepping on it when you get out of your car, crushing it beneath your shoe. You shut the car door with your hip and Robin shuts the door on her side. “Aren’t you gonna lock the car?” she asks.

You palm your face and double back, opening the door and locking it, then reaching across to do the same with her door. She’s lingering close, shuffling her sneakers against the pavement. You catch up to her and the two of you make your way up the back stairwell quickly. Not quite quick enough, as you happen to come in on the tail end of a fight that spills over into the little hallway, one of the bikers who frequents the bar settling in a drunken heap at your feet. You smush yourself against the wall and Robin does the same and the two of you make a break for it.

“Is it always like this?” Robin asks as you turn the corner and start up the second flight of stairs that it takes to get to your apartment. She spots the bright red door from the top of the stairwell and smirks, nodding to it. “Your door, I’m guessing?”

You laugh and nod. “Gus, he’s the owner. Said he’s gonna let everybody paint the  door whatever color they want. Gonna let ‘em do their own thing because he can’t be bothered to hire anyone.”

“And that one contractor in town only takes on high paying jobs. Apparently, he’s the one who put in Steve’s pool. I know because he came in and asked Steve how the heated pool was.” she’s telling you all about it as you unlock your door. Robin steps in behind you and her eyes are darting around as she grins. “Yeah, this is definitely your apartment.”

“Oh yeah?” you purr as you reach down and slip a finger down into the back of the heel you’re wearing, lifting your foot to let it settle on the floor. You take off the other heel and flex your toes, glaring at the shoes. “I am.. Not entirely sure those were the best purchases I’ve ever made.”

Robin’s snickering because you’ve got Richie Sambora front and center on the wall over your second hand couch. “Richie? Of all the men you could’ve put here, you have Richie Sambora?”

“Look at him!” you gesture at the framed print. Robin laughs when she turns and finds herself faced with a piece of leopard print cloth you’d gotten from the general store downtown and tacked up as a curtain to separate your bedroom and bathroom from the front of the apartment and the clear beads tacked over the top of it.

“Oh that. That’s where the magic doesn’t happen. Yet.” you laugh and wave a hand at the area dismissively as you start to take out the groceries you’d stopped to get on the way back from picking up Robin in preparation for the weekend ahead of you both.

“Wow, since when do you cook?”

“Robbie, c’mon.. Since we were eleven, at least. Remember?” “I remember a lot of visits from Hawkins Fire.” Robin retorts, making you pout. “Yeah?” you poke out your tongue, “Well, I got into it, it’s actually kinda relaxing. Still set shit on fire though, bite me.” you pout a little as you admit it to her.

“I thought so.”

“Hafuckingha, Robbie.”

“You’re painting a wall red?”

You glance over at Robin as she peeks into your bedroom and bathroom. You laugh and nod. “Mhm. I found some of that peel and stick leopard print drawer liner, that’s gonna go up too.” you drag a hand through your hair, “Unless I buy a huge frame and frame it.”

“Woman, what the hell?” Robin gestures to the chair sitting at your crowded vanity that’s loaded down with clothes. You laugh. “Gotta fix the hanging rod in the closet, apparently, it was not equipped or prepared for my clothes. I uh..Err.. I may have a problem?” you laugh it off sheepishly. You flip the light switch and Robin turns in a circle in the small bedroom that’s mostly taken up by your king sized mattresses. The bed frame pissed you off so it’s currently propped on the wall next to the bathroom door. She nods to the door. “That’s the bathroom, huh?”

“It’s tiny.” you warn as she disappears inside. Robin calls out through the closed door, “It’s the size of a closet!”

“I know!” you laugh as you flop down onto the bed, taking off the stockings you’d worn with your outfit for the day. After that, you took off the earrings and all your bracelets, the necklaces and your leather jacket, tossing the jacket at the chair. You’ve just started grabbing your favorite satin pajama shorts and the matching top and robe when Robin steps out. “I’m glad I’m not claustrophobic.”

“That’s what I said. But..” you step into the bathroom to change and take off your makeup, the door cracked so you can still talk, “It’s my space. At least now I don’t have to deal with Bob and Melanie and their excuses. Now they don’t have to bother making excuses, either. It works for everybody. Honestly, I’m surprised, “ you wet a black washcloth and pour some astringent into it, squishing until there’s a bit of foam coming through the rag, “That they said they’d help out with money if I need it?”

You step out of the bathroom and into the bedroom and Robin’s made herself at home, flopped across the bed, reading one of your issues of Cosmopolitan. “They did, huh?”

“Yeah, when they won that money and we moved, they really surprised me, they were very free with the money.” you shrug it off, grimacing. “Anyway, that doesn’t matter. How’s Hawkins High? What’s been going on since I left. I mean, I was shocked when I found out they were opening a mall here.” 

Robin laughs, raising to sit. “Yeah. Well, the highlight of the moment is the mall. It’s still boring as hell. Oh.. That note I said I’d give Tammy?”

You smile, your face lighting up only to fall when Robin frowns. “I didn’t.”

“Why the hell not, woman?”

“Well I mean… We don’t exactly live in a friendly place for… ya know.. My kind.”

You sigh and nod. “Yeah, makes sense I guess. Did you at least talk to her?”

Robin cringes and you groan quietly, shaking your head. Robin pouts. “I tried, okay? I tried.”

“Yeah, I know. Didn’t she move to Tennessee or something to try singing?”

“She did.” Robin laughs and you cringe about it. “Why, I’ll never know. I know you were in love with her but like.. Your girl could not sing.”

“Yeah, she really couldn’t.”

“Okay, so what about new prospects?”

Robin shrugs. “I’ve been busy between work and school and band.”

“Yeah.” you smile, nodding.

“So what’d you and Steve talk about earlier during your smoke break?”

You shrug. “Nothing, really.”

The lights flicker and the two of you share a look, your breath catching in your throat. You hate blackouts, the dark in general. And you hate it so much more when there’s bad weather as the cause. “I hope this storm doesn’t get as bad as they were saying on the radio on the way in.”

“Me too.”

The sounds of rowdy hard rock music and laughter and swearing drifts up through the floorboards and when the power goes out entirely, you can just faintly hear the patrons of the bar below raising hell about it. Thunder rattles the window and you and Robin jump a little.

“It’s fine, it’s fine. I’ve got candles and a flashlight.” the two of you make your way out into the kitchen and living room of the apartment and you find your flashlight and the box of matches. You and Robin go around lighting as many candles as you can and sink back down on the couch with the box of pizza you’d brought on the way sitting on the table in front of the sofa. And the topic of conversation turns back to school and people you knew or people Robin’s met in your absence.

“There’s a guy who lives in Forest Hills. He’d love you so much, holy shit, I mean.. You’re probably just his type. His name is Eddie.”

“Wait.. Eddie Munson, right?” you ask, laughing softly.

“Yeah! Wait, when did you meet him?”

“Well, you know I’ve always been nocturnal. We used to uh.. Wander around at night when everybody else was asleep. He’s sweet but like.. That spark isn’t there.”

“You mean the spark you feel around a certain dingus?”

“Hey, whoa.. He’s pretty, okay? Let’s not..” you take a bite of your slice of pizza and swallow it, “Let’s not go saying anything that serious. Besides, isn’t he dating that girl? Norah, Nelly… Nancy, that’s her name…”

“No, that ended last year. She’s dating some guy named Jonathan now.” Robin takes a bite of her pizza and shrugs. You laugh. “Then he’s got girls on top of girls on top of girls. Y’know I’m not his type.”

“Yeah, that’s what I told him earlier when he was asking a thousand questions.” Robin’s kind of giggling when she says it, searching your face for a reaction of some kind. You bite your lip and you try to stay quiet, you try to act casual, but in the end, your curiosity wins out. “What’d he ask?”

“I knew it!”

“Hey, I’m just curious what he’s asking about me.” you shrug it off and finish the slice of pizza up to the crust, sitting the crust in the box to grab another piece. You take a bite and wait.

“He was asking who you were. Then I told him and he remembered? And he was asking if you were dating anybody, stuff like that.” Robin’s smirking when you nearly choke on your pizza, reaching out to hit you between the shoulders. “Don’t die on me, he’s just a mere dingus.”

“Ha ha.” you gasp the word out, laughing. “What’d he remember?”

“More than I would’ve ever given the guy credit for noticing, truth be told.” 

“Such as?”

“The red cardigan you always wore? The way it covered your fingers? You doodled on your test papers, too. He remembered that.”

You giggle. “Yeah, I think that day the teacher let us grade each other’s papers, he got mine. I covered the one side in leopard dots and little hearts and stuff.”

“You’re not over him, are you?”

You shrug. “Maybe? Maybe not? I..” you trail off, biting your lip as you try to figure out the answer for yourself because you’re not really sure yet. “I dunno, to be honest. I mean I thought I was over him but then I saw him today and even in that stupid fucking uniform.” you fan yourself and Robin pretends to gag.

“He’s not that bad. I got the feeling when we talked the little bit we did talk earlier while we were smoking out back of the mall that he’s kinda like… Lonely?”

Robin groans and palms her face. “Be careful, you know how those guys are. I know he’s not that bad, but.. He is a dingus.”

“I know how they can be, but like… I dunno” you lean back into the sofa and let out a dramatic sigh. Robin nods to the Richie Sambora picture and laughs. “You kinda have a type.”

“Huh?”

“Well, Richie kinda has the hair situation Steve’s got going on. So do half of these other guys you have hanging up all over, come to think of it.” Robin’s teasing you and you pout, sticking your tongue out at her. 

“So he was asking about me, huh?” you mumble, mostly to yourself. Robin laughs and whacks you with one of the throw pillows you’d covered in black velvet fabric. “Hey! It was just a question, I’m not thinking about doing anything…”

But you kind of are. You just don’t know what exactly.

Friends. Maybe you could try being the guy’s friend. He certainly seemed like he needed those if the shit Carol was whispering to Nicole about him earlier were anything to go by.  

“I know that look, ___. You are.”

You shake your head, despite knowing damn well that yeah, maybe you are. “Maybe you could cut him some slack too?” you give her the smallest pleading look. “He just looked down earlier? Not himself, I dunno. Like Steve was always a mile a minute, Mr. Smooth talker and tonight he just… Wasn’t?” you look at her and she grumbles. “Fine. I’ll try.”

You smile a little.

“You.. do not go diving headfirst though, alright?”

You nod. Her advice makes sense.

“Yeah, yeah. Okay.”

“I mean it.” Robin repeats, firmer.

“Okay, alright! I swear. I’ll even pinky promise.” you hold out your pinky, linking with Robin’s.

–( steve’s house )

The phone rings and it cuts through the combination of big empty house and loud noisy mind. When he picks up and he hears the pop and hiss of static from the Camp Knowwhere payphone, Steve chuckles and grins. “Henderson, hey buddy.”

“Hey! How’s it going?”

“It’s going, man. You know me, always busy.” Steve says it, but in reality, he’s flipping through old yearbooks. He spots the picture of you in the 83 year book and he’s biting his lip. Trying to figure out which version of you he prefers. He remembers you a lot better now than he realized. He actually had a little bit of a crush on you at the beginning of the year, but then Nancy Wheeler caught his eye and he just kind of shoved that out of his head.

Carol always used to pick on you and it always used to piss him off.

To be fair, it always bothered him when Carol would start picking on anyone, but he remembers you specifically because it was one of the first times he ever voiced how it made him feel before he could stop himself from saying it.

“Steve?”

“I’m here, Henderson. Just ah..” he laughs and stands, pacing the living room with the phone in his hand and the cord near to wrapping his tall and muscular frame. “Just looking through yearbooks.”

“Ah, so you miss Hawkins High already, hm?”

“No, no. I was looking for a girl. I saw her earlier today in the mall? She used to live here but she moved or something and now she’s moved back.” he rubs his forehead. “Anyway, I just wanted to see something.”

“Uh huh, sure.”

“It’s not like that, Henderson.”

“Sure. You’re Steve Harrington, buddy. I know you. I know it has to be something. Did you talk to her? What’d she say?”

“Hey, whoa.. How about you tell me about how camp’s going so far, huh? I wanna hear all about it.”

Steve falls back against an expensive sofa and reclines his legs over the back of it. Laughing as Dustin starts to tell him about his camp girlfriend Suzy and the fact that they’re letting them build robots and they’re going to launch rockets on the last day. And Steve is smiling, laughing. Listening to Dustin because he feels a lot less lonely.

He has somebody to talk to right now, when his mind just won’t shut up.

He can talk to Dustin and the house doesn’t seem so big or so empty. And the kid’s fast become like the little sibling he never got to have.

He’s hesitant to tell Dustin this, of course, but it goes without saying.

As soon as he hangs up with Dustin, he’s flipping through the annual again, looking for a sneaky candid. Anything else that’ll give him another glimpse of you. And towards the back, he finds it. It’s a picture of you and Robin at a school carnival, in the face painting booth. The smile on your face makes him smile a little and as soon as he realizes it, he slams the yearbook shut and places it back into the cardboard box.

So it’s official, i hit 2.5k i think sometime last week (woohoo 🥳), i said it in my follower celebration last year that i never thought i’d get this amount of followers but i’m saying it again now, and knowing how long i’ve been on this site (10 long damn yrs on and off) some of those followers are probably inactive at this point but yeah i just wanted to say thanks to everyone who follows me, interacts with me and loves the gifs i create as it motivates me to want to create more and learn more (even when i get annoyed about how bad the like/reblog ratio is nowadays haha)

So i’m gonna take the opportunity to thank you guys (new and old) for sticking with me through the years and through all the fandoms and my multifandom mess blog, i know this place has definitely become more stranger things centric this past year but yeah, it’s still a multifandom mess haha.

I’m VERY curious about your new midnights gif!! You said you have a lot of thoughts about making it, could you give us a rundown of them?

Oh bless you sweet Anon I'd love to! I was gonna tag rant in the post itself but gifsets often see the tags copied entirely in reblogs so I wanted to save everyone that trouble. I'd love to give a rundown thank you for enabling me lol. Long post ahead but most of it under the cut. Be sure to share any thoughts you have Anon! Or anyone else, talk to me for a potential part two lol.

After seeing the post that I linked to as inspo I know I wanted to do a similar thing for Glee but I'm still just getting into Midnights and wasn't sure about assigning songs to characters. I've made a post or two asking people for their input so I'd like to shout out @sopheadraws for suggesting Sweet Nothing for Brittana on premiere day, @secretlesbianspy for Blaine and Anti-Hero, and for You're On Your Own, Kid @rachelberryy for Rachel and @katyobsesses for Marley. I ended up straight up ignoring a lot of what people have suggested oops haha but I agreed with these pairings. And then it was a matter of choosing 6-7 to actually gif and as I was doing some of them more connections started forming.

So, I start thinking about which Midnights songs to do and immediately I know that Maroon has to be on there because Quinntana doing that is my strongest association. This was fairly straightforward as I had the characters in mind, obviously had a colour set and knew that it would be I Do Quinntana scenes. I briefly thought of other ones but it's always obvious with Quinntana, isn't it?

I liked the imagery of Maroon and lines like "Your roommate's cheap-ass screw-top rosé, that's how" and "I wake with your memory over me // That's a real fucking legacy, legacy (It was maroon)". That latter one made it to the gif though a shortened version because space. I preferred to include the hopeful and less bitter half - well, maybe not hopeful. But the impression that despite the passion and even recklessness of the song it can be something lasting which is what I wish Quinntana was. Taylor songs and Quinntana deserve their own post but I just think the complexities of Maroon fit them well and it has that sort of sexual yet tender quality that's perfect for their two-time (sadly not continued) thing. And as for the gif itself, I'm forever obsessed with shots of them while slow dancing, that contemplation and ease before they throw themselves at each other. But I'm also very glad to have decided at the last minute to include an in-bed shot. I think it adds to the lyric "I wake with your memory over me". Not that they slept that much that night in the first place.

Next was Anti-Hero, which as mentioned I was convinced of for Blaine but long before that I'd already made up my mind that it was a Santana song, too. This a) works well for @secretlesbianspy haha but also b) fits my vision of trying not to make them all solos. That second half worked a little too well because almost all ended up being duets oops but I just think that assigning songs as solos is a little too limiting and duets and group numbers potentially offer more interesting interpretations. And so we have a Blaintana duet that takes place in an interspersed sort of non-diegetic way with both lamenting their lives separately but reaching similar conclusions.

In my mind this would take place at some point in season 4 or 5. I think it mostly fits Blaine in season 4 as he regrets having cheated on Kurt and crumbles under the realization that he can’t be Mister Perfect, maybe leaning into the “oh I’m the bad guy I ruin things” aspect a little too much. Like the dramatic little boy he is. Hence the clip chosen being from Hopelessly Devoted to You. As for Santana, I really like this shot from right before Girl On Fire starts playing because even though that’s ultimately a triumphant moment, it does come after the realization that she has to choose the real world. Over Kentucky, over Lima, over running back to the familiarity of Brittany, she has to choose taking that leap and truly living. And that’s terrifying when she doesn’t believe in herself. That leads us into season 5 which would fit Anti-Hero even more, when her insecurities cause her to go behind Rachel’s back and she doubles down on her bitch persona in the face of Rachel assuming the worst of her. The song fits her better in season 5 when she has that degree of introspection and also guilt about her past behaviour, so I did consider a pre-Be Okay clip where she and Rachel make peace. Ultimately, for aesthetic reasons this worked better but yeah I’m basically thinking New York Santana for this one. Actually you know what here’s a version of this with that alternate clip, as a treat (also different Blaine shot). Not fully coloured and finished so treat it as a discarded draft.

Phew told you this would be long, here comes song number three. As mentioned, You’re On Your Own, Kid read as both a Rachel and Marley song to me so it was an easy decision to use at least Rachel’s clip from their canon duet, New York State of Mind. That gave the whole thing a nice orange colour which worked for the warm to cold colour gradient that was starting to form. Beyond looking good, I chose the Rachel clip as it represents the start of her new life in New York and her stepping into her own. For Marley, a clip from Wrecking Ball fit not only because it had that orange hue but because it was her realizing she couldn’t trust Jake and thus was “on her own.”

The parallels between Rachel and Marley are interesting and less obvious than those between other OGs and their newbie counterparts, but that’s another whole post right there. What makes me think of the two in terms of this song is that vibe of wanting to escape your hometown, feeling insecure there, yearning for a love that will potentially make you stay. Finn and Jake, respectively, neither of whom end up being The One for the girls. And arguably, both Rachel and Marley are better off having had their hearts broken and realizing that they won’t be saved by some popular guy who choose them. “Like I'd be saved by a perfect kiss.” It’s a bittersweet realization that they have to rely on themselves but also empowering for both of them when they step out of previous roles and take charge. Rachel makes it in New York and Marley pursues her passion, supported by but not reliant on Jake or anyone else. Everything you lose is a step you take. Romantic heartache built their character.

Next up was Lavender Haze, which ended up less of a character analysis choice and more just what would be fun if they performed it on the show. From the beginning I had Quinn in mind and then Tina was added for some Quinntina fun, and though I debated until the end I ended up including Mercedes because that’d be an awesome trio.

I wasn’t hell bent on including this in the set but at this point I realized these were the first 5 tracks of the album bar one (more on that in a bit) and I just like the idea of the three girls owning this song. Again, this has less profound reasoning and is more vibes based, but I’d like to think that this is their way of establishing their own agency in their respective relationships and in general lives. All three have been stripped of agency one way or another, often relating to relationships, and this is them saying that they just wanna do what they wanna do. All have previously given a damn as to what people say, to varying degrees, but in a sort of #girlboss move they band together and defy that. I was also originally thinking of turning it into a romantic Quinntina AU thing, before I made the choice to include Mercedes. Read it in that way if you’d like. I just like the vibes of this one basically even if I like this gif the least. It could have maybe used more work but to be honest this was one of the ones I wasn’t that invested in.

Now that I’ve realized I had tracks 1-3 and 5 on here, I thought, okay, let’s get Snow On The Beach up on here. Mostly because at this point I knew I wanted The Great War in here so it could be a “the first 5 tracks + 1 extra from 3am” sort of thing. But then Sweet Nothing happened, more on that in its own section.

So, Snow. I went back and forth but upon the 10th or so listen I decided on Samcedes. It was that “falling in love at the same time” message that settled it because I don’t think the same can be said for any other couple. And I like the whole “yeah it’s unlikely but it works and it’s beautiful” vibe plus the chosen lyric really settled it. I look back on Prom Queen as one of my favourite Samcedes moments, their origin story and something that really sells me on this song being the one for them. The chosen lyric reflects Mercedes’ initial insecurity but also how they both felt at some point, yet everything still fell into place and they still worked, for the time that they did. It’s that magical vibe that I associate with their first evening together.

With the first five down I knew I wanted a plus one, that ending up being The Great War for Klaine. I initially thought of Labyrinth but that didn’t feel quite right and looking over the lyrics of The Great War did. Frankly I’m surprised to see sets of Klaine with other songs and not this. I didn’t want to include songs from 3am at first but this fit them and the plus one theme so The Great War it was. Initially in a turquois colour but yellow won out.

More so than any other song on the album, it’s the message of overcoming difficulties and still ending up together that makes it a Klaine one for me. Their struggles and the fact that they overcame them is often stated as a reason why people are drawn to their story and in all its angstiness I think this song describes that. Overall there are a lot of bittersweet songs on this album and ones of heartbreak and lost potential, whereas Klaine are about overcoming, so. And the bg clip is of them getting back together in A Wedding whereas the second one of from the last episode, right before we see them 5 years later as a representation of that overcoming. Once I chose the lyric I also thought of and made an alternate version for the second clip being their wedding kiss and thematically I still like that better but this worked better aesthetically.

So, we have the first five and even the plus one but hold it, I couldn’t just do a Midnights set, potentially my only one without including the association between Sweet Nothing and Brittana. The more I listened to this song the more I liked it for my favourite couple. Did it mess a bit with my original colour scheme, yes, and did I feel a bit weird including Santana three times, maybe. But at the end of the day these are my choices and I’ll choose Santana any day, so. Even though it makes the thematically organized part of my brain mad I had to include this.

This fuchsia colour really makes sense for them imo (even though I also tried it in yellow), the colour I usually associate them with. The wholesome and calm domesticity of the song immediately reminded me of season 6 fluff Brittana. I thought of a season 1 clip as well that I had on stock for, uh, other TS set reasons (coming soon) but I decided on season 6 choices. The hug from 6x06 has such a wholesome vibe to me and is easy to work with, and then choosing their little moment from Home was also easy. As they share this adorable moment they sing “their ain’t nothing that I need” which feels very fitting with Sweet Nothing, and of course the feeling that they’re each other’s home. All of this felt so right to me that despite it throwing off the little theme I planned for the set I couldn’t not include it. Having this Brittana association exist was more important than some arbitrary theme to the set that still sort of exists anyway. Very happy with this song and scenes choice.

Aaaand that is mostly it, though I also have thoughts on Midnight Rain which I almost included as a Finchel song. I know, I know, it’s already full of duets but I think that one really fits them and it’s track six which would continue the theme. I can also see a dark blue colour for it which would mean turning Anti-Hero lighter so Midnight Rain could fit between that and Lavender Haze. In the end though, I decided 7 gifs were enough and also tbh I just don’t think I acre enough about Finchel to give them a gif and a song off Midnights. I have even more thoughts on colours and alternate clips but this is long as is, so, all for now. But as you can probably tell I’d gladly go on some more haha. Their last meal before the bloodshed begins. Their last meal, and it’s the best thing they’ve ever had in their life. Rich soups and broths, roasted animals, seafood, the sweetest breads, cheeses, fruits and nuts, and barrels upon barrels of alcohol and spirits littered the hall as the tributes helped themselves to whatever they could get their hands on. Now was the perfect time to stock up on carbs, but Neph didn’t feel like eating much.

“What’s got you so blue, Neph?” Sasha called out to them, his shoes clacking noisily on the polished floor, “We’re not gonna have this until next week. Eat up, you look like a twig!”

Despite his attempts to cheer them up, their stomach churned at his words. He was implying that this was the last time they’d eat like this, not unless they survived. If they survived. “Sorry Mr. Sasha, I don’t feel too good tonight.”

“Don’t be so formal with me, Neph!” Sasha only chuckled, a hand on their shoulder nudging them towards the buffet tables, "Live a little. We'll be fine, trust me."

It… it wouldn’t hurt to trust him, would it?

“Then could you help me get some soup, please?” The fisher laughed nervously, “I can’t distinguish between… well, anything.”

“Aw, shrimpy can’t see?” Another voice piped up, slurred and elongated as if the speaker was drunk. (That… may be a possibility.) “Haha, how will you win the game if you can’t see?”

“Fufu, how interesting,” Yet another voice entered the conversation. “I would have thought District 4 sent out one of their career tributes instead. I wonder what game they’re trying to play.”

“Hah, they look so fragile, like a doll. Their chances of winning are so slim, it’s even worse than getting a UR in a 10-pull.” A whisper caught their attention from the far back, the crackling of fire accompanying the voice.

God, there were too many people here.

“Hey, hey, knock it off,” Sasha leered, handing Neph a warm bowl, “You don’t know what they’re capable of. Besides,” a taunting undertone coated his next words, “The people love a good underdog story, don’t they?”

“As if they could possibly win,” the lion man from earlier spoke up, his sentences punctuated by the occasional gulp. He was eating something, probably one of the roasted animals. “All skin and bones, no magic of their own, blind as hell… they’re practically useless. Such easy prey, too.”

“What do you know, Leona?” Oh, so that was the sandman’s name. “Come on, Neph. Let’s get away from here.”

“Be careful, little shrimpies! You’re playing with the big boys now, ahahaha!~”

“You didn’t have to do that, y’know,” Nephtali sighed, sipping the last of the soup as they enjoyed the tranquility of the night. “Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful you did, but it was unnecessary."

“What do you mean?”

“We’ve gotten a lot of eyes on us now, and having bad relations with the rest of the tributes is a death sentence.”

"It doesn't matter. I won't let anyone disrespect my friend." At this, the bowl slipped from Neph's hands, shattering on the concrete.

"Friend? You've only met me 3 days ago!" Wasn't that too fast for a friendship to progress?

Sasha let out a non-committal hum. "I've made friends with people who I've known for… like, 2 hours."

"And besides," he turned to the fisher, "Why is it so bad to call you my friend?"

Because, if your plan doesn't work, we'll have to kill each other. Because, if your plan fails, only one of us will make it out of here alive- if we're even alive for that long. Because, when push comes to shove, friendship won't matter and we'll be wrong about each other.

Because I'm scared you'll leave me, is what Neph wanted to say.

Instead, they sighed, a wobbly smile painting their lips, "Okay, you win."

How did it come to this?

Not even a day in, and they've already lost 'sight' of Sasha. Amidst the mad scramble, they had let go of his sleeve. There were people coming straight at them, shouting and laughing, projectiles thrown at them and weapons aimed at their heads and hearts. Adrenaline rushed through their veins as they ran from the Cornucopia.

You can scavenge for other stuff later, they mumbled to themself, right now, your main priority is shaking these bastards off your trail.

Oh, and finding Sasha.

The whooping and hollering grew quieter the further they ran, legs buckling under the pressure. The adrenaline rush was wearing off, the aftermath leaving them weak and trembling. Where the hell were they? Their hands floundered around in front of them, searching for anything to latch on. A tree, about an arm's length away. A few ferns and bushes, right next to them. A fallen log near their right foot, probably too heavy to use as a weapon. So far, so good.

Click. Click. The echo came back a few seconds later. They were near somewhere spacious, probably in front of a clearing. Backtrack a bit, just so they're not too close. Click. Click. The treetops stretched far above them, but there wasn't much coverage. Stay close to the trees, crouch down a little.

Click. Click… Click. Someone was coming this way.

Shit!

Wiping blood from the corner of their mouth, Nephtali sighed. The other person, who they came to know as 'Cater', was busy searching for supplies. But the way he carried himself, the way he spoke so fearlessly and light-heartedly… it left a bad taste in Neph's mouth. Like he was hiding something, or knew something they didn't. It didn't matter now, he left after 5 death threats, a considerable beating with a stick, and a small chase to the other side of the clearing.

Goddamnit, where was Sasha?

Their breaths came out staggered and grating, scraping their lungs every time they inhaled. Fuck, they really weren’t cut out for this. The problem is gone now, so at least there’s that. Sitting down on the cold forest floor, they took this time to rest and recuperate. There’s no point in looking for someone when you’re on your last legs.

“I swear, I’m not gonna make it through the night,” they laughed, a lone tear rolling down their cheek. “Semyon, please, take care of Marnya and the others for me.”

It turns out that looking for someone was quite easy. Never mind about searching for hours until the night comes, or listening for their voice amongst the rustle of leaves or the coronachs of the birds, or walking basically all the time until your feet are bleeding and your hands are cut. No, that wasn’t necessary.

When their name is called out and the cannon is fired in their honor, it turns out that finding someone is really not that hard.

“Fuck you and your stupid ‘friendship’,” Their grip on their hair tightened, curling further into themself as their throat closed up. “You’re such a liar. You promised we’d stay together until the end.”

“I hate you, I hate you so much.” No, they didn’t mean that. They didn’t, they didn’t. “I wish I never met you.”

“Hey,” a voice startled them out of nowhere, “Are you ok?”

Oh god, not another person.

“I-I’m not gonna do anything, I promise.” Yeah, right. As if. The last time someone said that, someone died.

Neph huffed, leaning further into the tree. “Go away. Leave me alone.”

“Look, I mean you no harm. I got separated from my friend, and I just want to stay somewhere relatively safe. Just for the night.” The voice came closer, practically kneeling in front of them.

“I said go away!” Neph kicked frantically at the space in front of them, scrambling away from whoever dared to intrude their space.

“Okay, fine, fine! I’ll just stay on the other side of the tree. Happy?” The mystery person grumbled, a sharp edge to their tone.

The undergrowth crackled as the person left their side. The air was cold, but without the biting frost that usually accompanied it. The occasional call of an owl resonated into the night. It would’ve been a pleasant evening if it weren’t for the circumstances surrounding it.

Neph just wanted to go home.

Yo people need to chill!!! What the actual fuck...

For days I’ve seen people argue heavily and seriously in the tag as if they were talking about their family and their lives depended on that! It’s a series, it’s fiction, they’re fictional characters you guys! The purpose of series is to entertain, and make people feel some kind of emotion, and make you fell good. I’m the first one that wants to talk about it, read meta post and analysis or understand why the characters did something and understand their choices and go on a little funny rant about it but this is getting ridiculous. It's normal to have different tastes and preferences, that's the fun part for me, that anyone can interpret the same stuff in a totally different way! No one is personally offending anyone and to see people ready to fist fight for fictional characters just because someone on the internet said they don’t like them, it's just crazy to me! If you like the series just enjoy it, if you get to much attached and struggle to have conversation with people that have different opinion, then talk to the people who agree with you if that's gonna add to the experience and go on with life, be you. If you don’t like it and it doesn’t bring you anything relevant then do that. But going into people blog just to scream and fight for LITERALLY FICTIONAL Characters like it's your own mother, it's not gonna do anything good i'm afraid! And sometimes this kind of aggressive and unreasonable behaviour it's more common in kids and teens and i can understand it sometimes, but i've seen full adults in their late 20s/early 30s fighting with all of their hearts because people don't agree with them. Tbh don't know how you can stay calm and respond without totally losing it, my ass could never!

1. who is your favorite character in 2?

Landon Kirby! (Obviously, since I’ve got a whole side blog dedicated to him haha.) He’s one of my top favorite characters ever (okay, not just one of, he is probably my very favorite).

2. who is your least favorite character in 1?

Oh idk... least favorite of the mains throughout the show would probably be Damon. I don’t hate him (well... sometimes I do haha, but I like him at times as well) I just like him least compared to everyone else. Though if I’m choosing someone who’s not one of the mains, I couldn’t stand the heretics in season 7, along with Julian. Yeah... maybe I’ll say Julian is my least favorite.

3. what is your favorite episode of 4?

That’s hard, but I’m gonna say either 1x08 or 2x09 but don’t think I can choose between the two.

4. what is your favorite season of 5?

Hmm I really love every season, but overall, I think I will say season 1 is my favorite.

5. who is your favorite couple in 3?

It’s a tie between Klamille and Haylijah. I think if I had to choose I would maybe say Klamille? But they’re very close.

6. who is your favorite couple in 2?

Handon of course! No question. (Also the only couple in that show that I care about.)

7. what is your favorite season of 1?

Season 2 (but season 1 is a close second), there was just a ton of great content in that season. It’s my favorite season for Stelena, I also loved all the Forwood stuff, I liked Beremy as well. We got vampire Caroline, the start of Steroline’s friendship. We got Katherine as the villain along with Elijah and Klaus. And I loved the dynamics between the characters and the storylines. Plus the early seasons of TVD are just the best as well imo.

8. what is your favorite episode of 5?

Idk if I have a favorite, but I really like 2x05 with all the John and Judy stuff, that always gets me. And 3x06, the ending was a lot but it was good. But I also really love 3x08 and how the whole thing ends. So yeah, those 3 are some of my tops but I don’t think I can choose just one.

9. what is your favorite episode of 2?

There’s a lot of episodes I like for certain scenes but my favorite episode as a whole is 1x13. Just the writing, editing, acting, music, it was all so well done and also the most emotional episode of the show imo. And I love how it was all solely focused on the characters, like on a mental and emotional level. Plus of course the Landon phoenix reveal at the end. (I’ll also add that 1x01, 1x08, and 2x12 are some of my top favorites as well.)

10. how long have you watched 1?

I watched the pilot when it aired back in 2009 and just never stopped watching. And will still rewatch it even though it ended years ago.

11. how did you become interested in 3?

Since it was a TVD spinoff and the backdoor pilot was a TVD episode, I naturally started watching it once it began and obviously to see the Mikaelsons’ story continue.

12. who is your favorite actor in 4?

Probably Millie Bobby Brown, but also Noah Schnapp, he was amazing in season 2 and deserves more credit for that.

13. which do you prefer, 1, 2, or 5?

1, TVD is my very favorite show.

14. which show have you seen more episodes of, 1 or 3?

1, since TVD has more episodes than TO.

15. if you could be anyone from 4, who would you be?

I mean, I really wouldn’t wanna be any of them because they’re always going through terrible stuff. Having Eleven’s powers would be awesome, but I wouldn’t ever wanna be her with all she’s gone through and keeps going through. Idk maybe... Erica? Just because she gets to be part of the group but she’s also not been as in the thick of things the way the other characters have... yet anyway.

16. would a crossover between 3 and 4 work?

I don’t see how that would work or make any sense at all, especially when they take place like 30 years apart. Unless Eleven ended up being a witch or something? That’s the only kind of connection I can think of them having haha.

17. pair two characters in 1 that would make an unlikely but strangely okay couple

Idk, most everyone was kind of with everyone at some point. 😂 Maybe... Stefan and Bonnie? 🤷‍♀️🤔 I always wish we had gotten to see more of a friendship between them but I don’t think them as a couple would’ve been horrible either (Bonnie did think Stefan was hot in the pilot 😂) though I’ve honestly never thought of that before.

18. overall, which show has the better storyline, 3 or 5?

Definitely Lost in Space. Legacies started out good, but uh... yeah, anyways... 😬

19. which has the better theme music, 2 or 4?

Stranger Things for sure, that theme music is pretty iconic. (Legacies doesn’t have much of a theme anyway, plus I’m not a fan of some of the score either so...)

20. what is your favorite episode of 3?

Again, I can’t choose just one, but a few favorites that come to mind are 2x09, 2x22, 3x09 (except the ending), 3x22, 5x12... too many to choose from.

Yes! I haven't really read Dickens but yeah I think the names Havisham and Compeyson are from Great Expectations and there's Ebenezer Scrooge from A Christmas Carol and lots more I didn't recognise--I think it might really add to the whole viewing experience if you know a little more about the characters they're all based on but I also think the series takes a lot of liberties with the way they're adapting them which isn't that surprising considering they're putting like a dozen different characters into one story. 

I love that you have an English literature major! Like that just sounds so cool to me <3 I'm currently getting a master's degree in education and I'm always sad that literature (especially non german literature) is only such a small part of it. Although, that makes sense bc I'm studying to become a primary school teacher (I'll probably end up doing sth else tho) so ofc I can't just focus on literature 🙄😂 About the subtitles, I'm also just so used to having them on even if I don't need them most of the time so yeah it's a bit frustrating to not have them.

I'd recommend cooling your arm, but uhm someone once told me that's not good, so I'm not really sure about it. Maybe putting something soft beneath your arm while writing can help when you're leaning on it?

Super excited for the Chrissy alphabet! I'm so sad we didn't get to see more of her! I was at german comic con a few weeks ago and Grace is just the cutest. She walked past me and I was sooo flustered, I wish I could've spoken to her.

I mean, I love this video, but it’s not one of my favorite joint videos of all time. Like, it wouldn’t make a “top 10″ list for me. And I think that is mostly due to how Dan seems almost...aggressive? in parts of it. Which makes some sense after the reaction to TTLMT and everything. 

I am fascinated by the difference in Dan’s attitude toward their audience in this video versus in the Mukbang after they had met a lot of the audience irl. I really do think the tour was a crucial part of Dan’s journey.

I tend to make things gender neutral by not putting in pronouns and just using “you” but you can definitely read this as female^^ But I completely agree, I love this boy so much. He’s my favourite character to play (im so sorry razor) until Xiao comes out. I literally have a genshin team named “waiting for xiao” and it’s just Childe and Zhongli haha.

Childe: First Kiss HCs

Childe was never one to shy away from affection, be it holding your hand in his or wrapping an arm around you, he was always happy to be close to you. He was always a bit territorial which lead to some embarrassing situations for you but it was from a good place in his heart. But when it came to public kisses, he preferred to keep it between you two. It felt too private of a moment that he didn’t want to broadcast to the rest of the Fatui, especially to the other Harbingers. That is to say, if he actually kissed you in the first place. For all the two braincells Childe had, one was fighting and the other was protecting his loved ones, just imagining kissing you was too much for him and he needed to go find some poor recruit and beat his inner problems out. The Fatui recruitment process would always dwindled down during his inner turmoil sessions that Scaramouche himself, had to throw his goddamn hat at Tartaglia, and yell at him to hurry up and fix his problem. It was clogging up the air. 

When he tried to think about it, it shouldn’t be this hard to simply lean in for a kiss. But it was his first and while Childe might run into whatever danger or prospect of a fight without a second thought, he didn’t want to ruin it. What if he accidently bonked his forehead with yours? He should remove his mask then right? Just in case? He’s only given forehead and cheek kisses to his younger siblings so it should be the same right? Yeah he could do this, this was just another battle for Tartaglia to conquer! 

But whenever he would see you or you would both sit and bask in each other’s presences. He couldn’t bring himself to initiate something or heck, even looking at your face made him a bit hot under the collar in sub-zero temperatures. He can almost hear Scaramouche and Signora laughing maniacally at him behind their hands. He’s the youngest of the Harbingers, he should get a “get out of jail for free” card that all youngest children have whenever they get into trouble. But in this case it’s murder. He quickly slaps his cheeks to get his mind off fighting for one second which startles you beside him. 

The first time you’ve seen Childe shy was when he first confessed to you, stuttering that he liked you and just really badly wanted to hold your hand without using the frost of Sneznaya as an excuse. You flushed pink but nodded that you returned his feeling and slipped your hand in his. Whatever shyness Childe had was quickly wiped off his face and he cheered and brought you in for an eskimo kiss. Rubbing your nose with his as he laughed in joy, the tips of his ears and cheeks still coloured pink. You always hold that memory dear to your heart because not only was it the start of your relationship, it was the first time you felt you were staring at Ajax. Not Childe. Not Tartaglia. Just Ajax. 

But now, you’re not to sure what to call this. Lately he seemed to be out of it, always staring off into space or frowning at some poor poor snowmen that did not deserve that much pressure.  Was being a harbinger starting to take it’s toll on him? Did something terrible happen to his family or was the Tsaritsa being too hard on him? You were beginning to get concerned because you’ve never seen this much mental turmoil in him. This never really happened before and he usually bounced back pretty fast. Would it be better if you left him be and he sorted it out himself? Would it be better if you asked? 

Childe is startled out of his thoughts of possible committed murder because he’s too scared to ask his own partner if kissing was something they could do, when he felt your hand slowly nudge his. No matter how many times he holds your hand, you’re always warm. It could be snow storming outside and the only heater he would need would be you. He offers a small but warm smile as he laces his fingers with yours. He remembers when you first started going out he was so scared about boundaries and what was okay. Brushing your fingers together and overall, not doing a good job at saying he wanted to hold hands that even he cringes slightly at his younger self - even though it wasn’t that long ago and he’s doing it again just with kisses - but now he borderline clings to you like some overgrown animal. Scaramouche’s words, not his. 

It’s still evening in Snezhnaya and the Tsaritsa herself seems to be taking a vacation because there’s only a light snow falling down between the two of you. You’re both sitting outside his house while his family is inside, warm and having fun playing games. He breathes in, closes his eyes, and let’s the world fade away just a second. He slowly brings his other hand to cup your cheek, his hands are always numb and the tiny pin pricks are dancing on his fingers again before they fade away too, and guides you towards him so he can place a small kiss on your fore head. Then tilts your face to the side so he can kiss your cheek. Brings his nose near yours to nuzzle against. Then hesitates when his lips hover above yours. 

“Ajax is there something bothering you?” you ask softly, you’re so close to each other that all you can see is him. The small puffs of breathe you both take bounce off each other’s face before evaporating into the air. You never really took the time to appreciate Ajax’s bright blue eyes. His pupil from this distance seems to be slitted too. 

“Hm? Ah no, of course not. Where did you get that idea?” he tries to laugh it off and tries to move back before you quickly bring your hand to the back of his head and nudge him forward so he stays in place. It wasn’t like him to run away from something, it was really starting to bother you what could get Ajax of all people to retreat from something. 

“You know if there’s anything that’s bothering you, you can talk to me right?” you asked as you brought both your hands to cup his face as you softly rubbed circles just under his ear. He closed his eyes and hmmed happily at your actions and nuzzled further into your hand before turning his head inward to kiss your palm. Before relaxing and parting his eyelids half way as he seemed to be back in concentration mode. Before awkwardly saying what was troubling him these past few days. 

“So wait, you mean to tell me that this entire time I was worried about you. How out of it you were and how many fights you’ve been getting into. Was because you wanted a kiss?” you asked dumfounded as he pouted but nodded. You sighed but bonked your foreheads together softly, “You’re such an idiot....C’mere.” 

“Wha-” 

You grab the scarf on his harbinger uniform and tug him forward as your lips slot over his. You kiss him hard and for a few seconds as Ajax just stares at you as his brain tries to catch up, before his eyes seem to dilate and he kisses you back just as hard. All his past worries are quickly thrown out the window as slowly pushes you on your back, cushioned by the soft snow, as he basks in the feeling. It’s a bit sloppy given this is both your first kisses but that’s what adds to the charm. You both have to separate at some point for oxygen but Childe looks like he’s ready to dive in again. 

“One more,” he pants as he goes in for another but you quickly place your hand in the way so he ends up kissing your palm. He whines but you chuckle at him, place a small kiss on the back of your palm of where his lips would be, and push him off you. You’re both still outside his families home and you aren’t in the mood to be caught in this kind of position. Especially not in front of his younger siblings. He rests his cheek on your shoulder and looks at you, trying to make his eyes bigger and look like a kicked puppy. You sigh as you give a small pet on his head, running your fingers through your hair. What a troublesome partner you’ve gotten. 

“Alright, one more.”

The entire time I’m writing this I’m just thinking “honey..no, that’s not how this works.” God you’re so dumb. I hate you. You’re my favourite character. Pour one out for Xiao, I was going to make this a crack fic too but ended up making it somewhat serious.

Something else was supposed to accompany this post, but it’s taking longer than I thought. So, have this for now.

I’ve been listening to a lot of Missing 411 cases right now—well, forest/camping/cabin stories in general, and it had me thinking of Until Dawn. Then, I thought, what if I put the AC cast into a similar scenario . So, I did.  Yes, I make too many AUs, I know…

Premise: Karma invites his friends to his family’s winter cabin for a fun 1-week getaway. His brother, Gakushuu (because of course I’d make them brothers in this AU. Am I predictable? Yes), has somewhere he needs to be that’s closer to the cabin than their home (still pretty far, though), and he’s not on a tight schedule, so he decides to tag along for a couple of nights. There’s some stuff there that he needs to collect, too, so it works out. So while the group’s having fun and enjoying their time at the cabin, they’re unaware they’re being stalked by a cryptid. The fun doesn’t last for long.

I imagine they’d be in their late high school years or college. As such, I gave them their adult heights and I cut Nagisa’s hair.

I would have liked to add more people in, but that would’ve made such a big group. In fact, Nakamura wasn’t originally supposed to apart of this, but, well, I couldn’t resist adding her. Besides, the main cast of Until Dawn is 8 characters, 4 girls, 4 boys, so the addition was fitting.

I’ve only gotten a concept for this AU rather than anything substantial. I don’t know how much I’ll do with it or if I’ll even touch it after the next post. But I listen to these kinds of stories all the time, so there’s a good chance I’ll get into a mood sometimes.  I haven’t even decided if this takes place in Japan or Canada. I thought about switching it to Japan, as that might make more sense for them. I could switch the wendigo out for some sort of snow yokai—which one? I haven’t a clue. I’m not the most clued-in when it comes to most yokai.

But I think going with Canada is more…terrifying? First of all, Until Dawn introduced me to wendigos, and my God, they are frightening. I don’t believe in them—I don’t believe in supernatural cryptids in general—but I do believe that they are the scariest (As such, I find them the most fascinating and like consuming media about them).  Secondly, the group wouldn’t just be miles and miles away from their homes—they’d be in a whole other country that’s on a whole other continent. A cabin in the woods can already feel pretty isolated, but I think this just adds to that (Also, going on a trip to another country just sounds exciting. It might help set the mood for their trip before it gets dashed away. Also, the Asanos are rich—I can imagine them having oversea vacations spots. Oh, also—for some reason, this AU of all AUs made me think about Karma being referred to as an Asano. Like, he’d be called Asano/-san/-kun, and that’s…that’s a weird thought, haha).

(If I ever get to those parts) this AU would definitely include traumatic events and injuries, but I’m undecided if I’m gonna kill some of the group off. On one hand, ✨angst✨. On the other, I’d like them all to survive through this. There would definitely be a close call or two. For now, I’m leaning on the latter, but, well, we’ll see.

Ok since two people asked

Why Lloyd is my least favorite ninja and how I rewrite him

Notes:// you know the rodeo by now, long post so it’s going to be under a read more, and I’m not gonna tag this with Lloyd because of the criticisms I have against his character, if you don’t want to hear Lloyd be critiqued then don’t reas the post

Why I don’t like Lloyd

Maybe it’s because I’m a Kai kinnie or maybe it’s because I have a bias agaisnt the younger sibling but Lloyd has never really been a favorite of mine

He was enjoyable in s1 but after that he kinda lost all personality for me and I stopped enjoying him

I think this is mostly for two reasons:

1. His screen time

2. His “character arcs”

I’ll go ahead and knock out his screentime here because it pretty much speaks for himself

Lloyd takes up so much screentime in the show that it’s actually jarring, he’s the character with the most seasons, having s1-2, s4, s8-11, and finally s14 ((the island special)). Which I think makes lloyds writing flaws all the more noticable

A big reason, albeit a bit of a petty one, for why I don’t like him is because he constant hyjacks other characters plots and makes them about him, this happened with Kai in both s4 and s11

Even if he’s not the main focus of a season, he always has a side plot focusing on him like in s3 and s12

The writers need to include Lloyd in other seasons is making it harder for the other main characters to actually have enough screentime to grow and develop on there own

And as a side effect of this, Lloyd gets to become the most important character in every season he is, taking roles from other characters who needed them

My best example is Cole being leader, he was set up and established as leader in the pilots and s1, and he did pretty good in it! Cole being a leader is a interesting concept that I would have loved to see been developed

But after Lloyd grew up they threw that plot point into the trash so they could have the mystical green ninja be leader even though throughout s1-7 he hardly actually talks to the main cast and him being leader doesn’t add any interesting dynamic like cole and kais rivalry despite Kai being a sort of right hand man to Coles leadership.

And in s1-s7 especially everything literally revolves around Lloyd to the point where his existence is more important than everyone else’s, and everyone’s motivations are to protect him.

Again I understand he is important, he’s the green ninja, but you have to let your other characters grow and develop, Lloyd is not the only main character in your show

Like for fuck sakes I don’t need 3 arcs about Lloyd and his dad, can I finally have another Kai season

Lloyds character arcs honestly kinda suck

Im going to be honest with you

Lloyds kinda an ass

The reason I like jay more then Lloyd even though jay has been way more mean spirited then Lloyd throughout the entire series is because you can atleast make the argument that jay doesn’t know when his jokes can hurt. And the show doesn’t portray jay as in the right, he gets what he deserves for some of the meanier things he says.

The same can’t be said about Lloyd

Lloyd says things to the other ninja that is honestly so mean spirited it’s jarring to hear it from him

Best example being when Lloyd told Kai to get over his shit when Kai was grieving in s4

But what makes it so frustrating is that the show always portrays Lloyd like he’s in the right which is why a lot of his character arcs feel flat or uninteresting

The only time this doesn’t apply is in s2 and in s3, in s2 the show paints Lloyd as being unfair to Misako when he RIGHTFULLY gets mad at her for abandoning him, I’ll get back to this later

The second time in s3 is when he’s traveling with Garmadon and having to be taught to balance his powers, which is actually one part of s3 I really liked, it was nice to see these two bond and have Garmadon teach Lloyd something that wu would other wise not teach him. And it’s a real shame the season cut it short AGAIN

The biggest example of the show making Lloyd seem in the right no matter what is in s4, Lloyds whole arc there was to learn how to view things from a different perspective and appreciate the things others have done for him. And this is would work if the show decided to do the same.

Again back to that scene with Lloyd and Kai in s4, the show treats Lloyd as if he’s in the right and it’s never addressed after this. Even though this is supposed to be the beginning of lloyds arc where he’s supposed to learn to view things from a different perspective

This scene would have worked if

1. The show didn’t paint him in the right for this, either by having Lloyd apologize or having the show acknowledged how it might have hurt Kai

2. If the plot Lloyd has remained a side plot instead of taking up the entire focus

Seriously, s4 could have been the ONE season where you can have a Lloyd side plot thats not forced and yet they fucked it up and made it the entire focus of the season thanks a lot.

To quote what I said in my Nya anayalsis awhile back

“I’m not upset that he has a flaw, just that it’s not recognized as one”

Lloyd would work way better as a character if the show just let him have consequences for his actions

Ever since he grew up and got the green ninja role he’s been treated like he can’t do no wrong which is clearly not true

But since we’re already on this topic

Hurting Lloyd doesn’t make him a good character

I feel like Tommy ((and sometimes the fandom)) really misunderstand what the use of suffering for in a story

There atleast 3 reasons writers make there characters suffer

1. To undergo a arc and realize where they have been wrong or to give a character a lot more depth to expand upon

2. If the story is a fallen hero one and the character suffers because of his Huberius

3. If the story is a tragedy

Ninjago is neither a fallen hero story or a tragedy and his pain doesn’t develop him as a character

A lot of writers don’t understand that suffering isn’t what makes a character good, it’s what pushes them to become good, you can’t just throw a character at the wall and expect them to instantly be a well written fleshed out character

A lot of the suffering Lloyd has to endure is mostly for no reason and it’s really mean spirited because it adds nothing to the plot, it’s just there to hurt him

Let’s bring up s11 as an example, Lloyd didn’t HAVE to fight the ice emperor from a writing standpoint, if anything it should have been kais battle because his lose of power and Zane going evil would have been a perfect reflection of s4 and tie it up after it ended kais character a bit open ended

But no let’s have Lloyd do it instead because haha isn’t trauma COOL and HIP

Now to be clear, I’m not saying that all of your stories have to end on a happy ending or anything like that, if your a writer then your allowed to do whatever you want with your personal writing

What I am saying is that ninjago is an actual SHOW made by PROFESSIONAL writers and they can’t understand the concept of a story structure

And the lack of actually addressing his trauma is really bringing down Lloyd as a character

Because it comes to a point where you understand why Lloyd is sometimes mean or distrustful of other people and it’s frustrating because you know that it’s flaws of him that are never going to be fixed because there writers want there trauma baby

How I would rewrite him

I’ve seen a lot of people suggest Lloyd become a villain in a future season and you know what, I sort of agree

But not in the way you think

I feel like it would be way more compelling if Lloyd was a villain but is still a ninja, instead of Lloyd switching sides, the show is switching perspectives

More or less I want Lloyd to be a reflection of the “true” villain, which is how wu ((and subsequently Lloyd)) put small Victories as more important then the ninjas life, passion, and desire, and how there black and white thinking of good and evil ends up to a lot of problems because there’s a lot of grey area there choosing to ignore

I want Lloyd to start of being loyal to wu’s philosophy and the protagonist, for random example let’s say Kai, sudden turn on these ideas in order to look outside the box to find if there truly is a better way to protect people without harming himself

I want Lloyd to be upset over what he thinks is a turn to the dark side when in reality, it would make his motivations make sense and not make his turn to “villainy” be out of character.

And over the course of the season he starts to realize how wus and subsequently his leadership has hurt the others and himself, and have him reflect on if all the pain they suffer through just to clean up wus mistakes is really worth it like wu says, or if there’s a better way like kai says

As for Lloyds actual character himself, I’d like for his flaws to be more noticeable

Have Lloyd be a gifted kid who gets praise when he doesn’t deserve it but still kinda acts like a brat because he’s still mentally like 10

Have him be a control freak who follows the rules way to strictly and is all serious when they have to do missions

Have his idealization of wu be realized and critiqued because honestly wu sucks ass

Would this make his character less like able? Maybe, but then he’d actually have depth and something to improve on

He can still have his s3 and s4 arcs, it’s just now they’re more important because he’s actually learning to be better

AND BEFORE ANYONE SAYS IM PURPOSEFULLY MAKING LLOYD WORSE SO THAT KAI LOOKS BETTER

ILL HAVE YOU KNOW AWHILE BACK I MADE A POST SAYING THE EXACT SAME THING ABOUT KAI AND HIS FLAWS SO THERE (/hj /lh)
