So who said reader inserts have to be completely blank slates? Like who made that rule? I understand keeping race and those types of things vague but it’s an insert.

I have never come at these stories with the idea that I would step seamlessly into them. That’s not how good stories are written. You can insert yourself into other people shoes it’s not a big leap. When there’s backstory and family and such just…use your imagination. That’s already happening when your reading it isn’t a reach.

“I hate the miscommunication trope” “the worst trope by far”

There is nothing better than the pining and wanting while not being able to say it. Seeing characters want something so badly but are unable to just say that they want it, wether out of fear the other doesn’t or simply because they have this internal conflict of do they or don’t they. The simple things they can’t bring themselves to say out loud. Seeing the click of realization/confirmation as they lay it all out in front of them, as a simple few words could unravel them completely. Or “Your love passed me by,” the missed opportunity the unfortunate time spent waiting when there was no reason, THE WASTED TIME. They could’ve been anything else if they just said it, if they’d let themselves have it.

ttpd is really going to be for all the poets who don’t essentially pursue the art because of whatever reasons (family for me personally) but will do whatever to keep their poetry alive, the ones who write poems on scraps and tissue papers, who have the corners of their books filled with thoughts and doodles and ideas of their next masterpiece they know the world would never get to see, for the academically gifted kids who had to choose a major which suited their “caliber” and not what they wanted. it’s going to be for the lost poets who voices were never heard and who poems are going to be buried with them. for the Emily Dickinsons and Sylvia Plaths of this age.

Well, I’m annoyed. The show deserves better. It had a solid plot, excellent cast, fantastic representation, beautiful cinematography, and a lovely team beings it. They all deserved better. And Misha deserves better. He’s a good actor, he’s got range, and according to everyone is a joy to work with.

I don’t understand why the CW makes the choices it makes. I have no idea how it works, granted, but I haven’t seen any clear explanation either. Wrong timing, I suppose. Still, quite shitty. I wish it were different.

I hope that the GK team has a wonderful future. They deserve it.

People mad when I’m by myself and drawing instead of… still being alone but in silence? I put in headphones because the throat clearing was obnoxious and I hate it.

I don’t know why it gets me so bad, I fucking despise it and people do it all the time. I hate it so much I forgot how to do it. I can feel it in my ears when people do it, it’s a rubbery tendril writhing in my ear without warning. But I’m dramatic for getting annoyed and wanting to leave a room with 5 people periodically clearing their throat for no reason. I cannot help the fact I can feel each noise I hear. Sometimes it’s neat, especially with music, because feeling the different instruments on my head and ears is neat, I can pick them apart and focus on the sensation. With everything else it sucks. I can’t help that someone’s voice is so slimy-feeling that I don’t enjoy hearing them talk, I feel bad about it. I can’t help every single noise in the silent classroom makes my skin crawl, that tapping pencil feels like it being jabbed down my ear canal, that sniffling feels like someone sucking my eardrum with a straw, that throat clearing is like a rubber tongue licking my ear canal, that humming feels like someone jabbing their fingers into my neck and shaking. Does anyone else experience this? Am I alone?

Hi I went on a big rant about Shakespeare and Macbeth and I thought y’all should see it

You know what I don’t like Shakespeare’s writing. No not because I’m a grumpy teen who hates his literature in class. No I dislike it because of the messages he supports through it.

Like Macbeth is about the coincidences of have the “wrong” kinda of ambition. And if you’re a woman through lady Macbeth you should not challenge the patriarchy or defy social norms.

Gods The Thing I hate about English class is that they say Shakespeare was a feminist and plays with how gender isn’t binary, but no only media illiterate fools would say that!

It’s a tragedy Lady Macbeth goes mad and dies!? (To her own hands might I add) (ok I can’t remember if that is cannon)

The witches who have sort of undefined genders are seen as villains/ scary background forces

The foil to Lady Macbeth, Lady Macduff, is shown as stereotypically feminine with the whole mother thing and worried/ annoyed wife.

Fuck sakes the whole point is the protagonists are bad and defy this imposed rules of class/ hierarchy/ religion so get punished. The protagonists aren’t the heroes that’s why it’s a tragedy, the antagonists are the heroes. The only reason why Shakespeare did this was to get a better view on who not to be so the audience connects to them then fully absorbs the message that you shouldn’t rise above your status, be the wrong person and have a “wrong” kind of ambition, and seek to change anything without dammed coincidences.

Asian people and Black people do not have the same experiences. We are not the same.

This is just as bad as if they made Nettles white. As Black people, particularly Black women, we get so few positive representation in the media and you want to take that away? Nope. This isn’t f*cking cool or cute. I am not here for it and will not be supporting the show.

HOTD already has been shown to be anti-Black. They turned the Velaryon’s Black and gave them the shittest story’s particularly Laena. in the books is a white woman who is loved by her husband. She dies from childbirth complications not from lighting herself on fire. I do not care how you f*cking spin it, that scene was not empowering. That was traumatizing. Her whole arc was a joke. You turned a loved woman into a sad neglected wife who lits herself on fire because her husband doesn’t love her when you made her blackish.

If this woman is Nettles(for your sake HBO I hope she’s Sara cause you won’t get away with this without backlash) then this is the final nail on the coffin. Honestly this move would be less about diversity and more about not having a black woman being shown in a loving relationship. That’s really what this is about. This actress is a more socially acceptable(model minority myth) than if she was kept as her brown skinned Black self.

I can’t in good conscience support a show that perpetuates misogynoir. I hope this actress is playing Sara Snow and I’m just overreacting, but if not, prepare to be dragged HBO🤷🏽‍♀️ Don’t think you’ll be able to get away with this.

I’m gonna say it slowly this time because I’ve been baited by seemingly gender neutral fics a few times recently (nsfw themes/language)

The phrase ‘good girl’ is not gender neutral

Try saying something like “look how good you are” or “you’re being so good for me”

A ‘mommy kink’ directed at Reader is not gender neutral

Try breaking at the point you want to get gender/sex specific and put a little divider that says ‘for afab/fem’ or ‘for amab/masc’ or just give a little (mommy/daddy) option, but keep in mind just seeing the word can trigger dysphoria for some people so warn them appropriately at the top of your fic. Never seen a neutral version of a mommy/daddy kink, but I’d do some research if I ever wrote one

Using terms like ‘cunt’ and ‘folds’ are not gender neutral

The terms ‘hole’ and ‘entrance’ work for most people, when in doubt just don’t get specific

Not everyone ‘gets wet’

Focus on other aspects of arousal instead, think of heat and ache and need, get mental with it instead

Saying the words ‘other women’ implies that our dear reader is also a woman

Just don’t say other, think ‘the way he looks at other women isn’t the…’ or make it fully neutral ‘the way he looks at other people isn’t the…’

Implying Reader is tiny, like significantly tiny and dainty, or has long hair or really soft skin feels fem/afab

Don’t describe Reader. Never describe Reader. They know what they look like. Describe the character instead, they’re what everyone’s here for. I can understand that this might be hard to feel for, especially if you’re cis, but the vibes and details really make a difference. This one takes a lot of practice and awareness and even I still make mistakes on it.

There’s more, this is just what I’ve seen from fics claiming neutral genders in the past few days

Nobody is perfect, let’s all get better together. I’m still learning and I’ve been doing x reader for for almost ten years. Everyone is always learning and it’s okay to make mistakes.

This is all said with love and hope that we can all feel comfortable reading one day. I’m personally a he/they and I seek out neutral fics on occasion when I’m feeling more they than he, a lot of times I’m hit with the debilitating she. This kind of thing happens to people under the trans and non-binary umbrellas all the time but it also happens to a lot of cis men in the world of fanfiction. Let’s make x reader fics for everyone. Fics should be a safe place.

As always, label your fics with the Reader’s gender/pronouns and sex/presentation
