There is a good amount to criticize regarding the writing of the show. To say it has little to no flaws is reductive and untrue.

The main side that criticizes the show goes way too far and gets to the point where it’s basically bashing every frame of the show that it just gets ridiculous that you could swear you hear clown music playing.

There is a subset of people that enjoy the show and recognize its flaws. I’m sick of the whole “if you like the show why do you criticize it?” Shtick. but I’m also even more sick of all the character bashing that comes from the salt side because the characters don’t match their ideal.

The two sides of the fandom are split by the Grand Canyon and I am in the middle of the deepest crevice.

this is actually a very prevalent problem in this kind of “liberal” comedy, where a bigoted joke will be made and another character will point out that it’s a shitty thing to say. which on the surface seems good, right? explicitly calling out bigotry as bad? but it’s a problem of showing vs telling. sure, you have a character saying that the bigotry is bad but what’s actually being shown is a punchline that a character is being bigoted. the sexist/racist/etc joke gets more time and more focus than the refutation. people aren’t watching a comedy series for a lecture. if you spend too long dissecting WHY the joke was problematic it’s not a comedy anymore, it’s an awkward Very Special Episode. so you end up with characters acting misogynistic where the only consequence can be that someone wags their finger at them and says “don’t do that!” and we just have to watch a woman get treated like shit with absolutely no recourse. it’s just. just stop treating your female characters as completely different creatures from your male characters i promise your writing will be a lot better for it
