Hi Space!! I saw your post about Obsidian, and I think it would be perfect for my worldbuilding notes. (for novels + D&D things). Do you have any advice about how to get started with a worldbuilding/story vault? Especially how to make it look as nice and aesthetic as your notes? I opened Obsidian for the first time just now and I immediately felt lowkey overwhelmed by the possibilities.

You also mentioned plug-ins? How do those work? Do you have any you consider essential for yourself?

Sorry if these are silly questions, but I'm very curious about this, and I want to give it a shot! Thanks for answering, and for telling me about this super cool-looking app!

not silly questions at all! i'm more than happy to chat about obsidian for literal hours

The key here is do not do everything at once. As you build, what you think you need, and what you actually need, will change. The best way, I’ve found, to build any kind of vault in Obsidian is organically. Put in a small bit of information, play with it, then put in some more.

I fully expect no-one to do this, because I did not, and ended up refactoring my entire process multiple times, because I am an idiot who thinks common sense does not apply to me.

I wrote a post for anon here that covers some bits about plugins (which i will be making a post about soon, it’s in progress!), and such, but I’ll repeat here one of my main points, which is that there are as many ways to organise Obsidian as there are people. It is overwhelming, because there is so much freedom. I spent a long time switching through themes and organisation methods, before realising that I had to grow my own process that worked for me.

I base mine on a (very very) bastardised version of Johnny Decimal. Top level folders for large categories, with subfolders if needed.

making a worldbuilding/story vault

For a worldbuilding/story vault, I’d recommend starting with the very very basics of your information:

a folder for meta information, like images, pdfs, other files, any templates you make. just to keep that stuff out of the way

a folder for research

a folder or folders for characters and setting

a folder for the actual writing

within those, it depends on what you’re working on how you want to organise. I have the following in my ‘world’ folder for the Valloroth vault:

I like big categories and i cannot lie. I like this method because it makes sense for my brain, and I know where to look for things. however, don’t feel beholden to any organisation you set up if it’s not working. try it, find the friction points, try something different to ease the friction points.

the best and worst thing about Obsidian is that you can do whatever you want. so if it’s not working - change it! it’s your vault!

for the aesthetic

i am the kind of person who knows just enough css to be a danger to myself and others, and I like tinkering. it took me a couple years to get my vaults looking the way they do, but the quickest way to get a pretty vault is to look at community themes!

For d&d, the go-to MVP of themes is ITS Theme. It has a lot of options, a really good set of explainer docs, and the dev is a pretty active member in the discord community. (hi SlR if you ever read this! love your work!)

My main vault uses the typewriter theme, with custom colour accents, custom fonts, and also a bunch of CSS snippets. Valloroth is entirely custom on top of vanilla obsidian, and i’m scared to look at the code because it’s over a year old now, and I haven’t really updated it and I am not a dev TT_TT

many of my prettifying tweaks are bits of CSS I’ve collected from lurking in discord over the past few years, or stolen from other themes.

but if you’re not a nerd with too much free time like me, hop into the community themes under ‘appearance’ in settings, and play around until you find one you like. and then, if you’re a nerd with too much free time like me, there’ll be like one or two things in that theme you want to change, and before you know it you’re neck deep in w3schools trying to figure out which selector you need to target when you should be asleep.

A Collage (of Yelling)

I saw someone do something like this to advertise their fic- they linked the fic, and then put in a little collage of various comment snippets. I can’t find the post to show off- someone please do let me know if you’ve seen that, I want to credit them. 

Either way, my Hollow Knight post-Black-Egg-Temple fic (linked here) has 209 comment threads on it. I’ve gone through and found some bits. These bits were mostly chosen for entertainment/intrigue value out of context- a lot of my favorite comments didn’t get in. 

Got some good reviews there, I think. Anyone wanna see the collection I have of Discord screenshots from folks yelling at me about this fic?  (Seriously though, thank all of y’all who comment, yell in the tags, whatever- I love it. Really helps keep the writing muse going, too.)

i was so relieved to read this that i accidentally put my phone in airplane mode trying to respond “it is startled out of its pleasant memory-” pLEASANT???? PLEASANT!?! Hollow no. HOLLOW NO- / why does this for some reason almost feel like fluff.  My urge to keysmash at you is strong Just. God. Everything about this is so fucked in so many ways.

Something about this line just makes me want to. Maybe stab the king in the chest. Repeatedly. And then throw them off a bridge. Idk Actually many things about this chapter make me want to stab the king in the chest repeatedly and then throw them off a bridge. Because *holy shit* Hollow, honey, you have so much trauma. OMG ghost, what have you done [stressed emoji] Okay then. Well. Um. That’s a lot to happen.  God it’s such a mess Ah yes, the eldritch nonsense trying to approximate a living creature, my beloved PK you ass. PK you absolute ASS get over here I wanna hit you with something heavy-  oh / im immediately punched in the face okay thank you for that Right off the bat I am mildly excited about this chapter solely because you played with text formatting and that makes my serotonin levels rise. I don’t know why but thank you for that.  CONFUSION SOUP I’M FHDHDJFKFKGH I wanna join the cuddle pile :<<< let me in [holding Hollow gently in both hands] / I will get you all the fresh-dirt-scented soap Fucking superb you funky little vessels. Oh this chapter hurts ‘specially bad. Because it wasn’t enough to be possessed and neglected and quite literally tortured and driven insane, now we gotta have more medical issues and amnesia-  I fuckign cried at this one, oh my god. Pain is always a tearjerker, but it’s nothing compared to someone who’s been in pain so long finally getting that first big moment of *realizing they’re wanted* and *heard* and *healing*  And I gotta say, (this is gonna sound bad) I really do love Hollow’s victim blaming. Or how it’s written. I love how you write characters in pain <333 “Oh, just a quick chapter to read before bed,” I thought to myself. “I will enjoy it and feel a normal and manageable level of emotions about it.” / ...Thanks for making me all teary in the wee hours, now I’ll never get to sleep! (...I mean this as praise.) Oh. Oh Hollow. So wrapped up in the need to be useful. So incapable still of seeing that their own gut-wrenching familial love might be returned in kind, whether they have some designated purpose for their existence or not.  Yeah. Relieved. / Oh, Hollow... You have already left kudos here :) [three times] / Have I ever been told the definition of insanity?  honestly the body horror was the /least/ disturbing thing in this chapter. not to say! that it was not disturbing - even then, less the horror and more the. context. i want to punch TPK. into a lake. that is on fire.

First comment of my first reread, and MAN. This opening hits just as hard the second time.  Keep in mind Hollow Knight was made by Australian people Hollow 100% deserves a nice date at the palace if they so wish. anyway, I feel very emo about Hollow, all the time.  HOLLOW IS LETTING THEMSELVES HAVE WILL, LET’S GOOOOOO Ghost is doing Fine:tm:, Hornet is doing Fine:tm:, Hollow is *actually* doing pretty well Good news! Hollow is an emotional wreck!  Hornet is doing sooo normal right now (lying).

TLDR; amazing story, glorious update, poor Grimm, I Am Desperate For Shield Lore, someone please tell Ghost it isn’t their fault, the entire gaggle of siblings needs a group hug, I Am Going To Put The Pale King’s Corpse Through A Shredder, and Hornet needs another good cry.

An excerpt from the Alex Rider selkie au I'm working on!

Come to the water, young one,

Where it is safe and warm.

Where I wait for you.

Like many selkies, she gave up her life in the sea for a human one. There aren’t many selkies left, and with no one to share it with, the ocean becomes quite lonely. And she had always longed for a pair of legs, ever since she had seen how humans created cities and buildings everywhere they went. She wanted to explore them all, and that is how she found herself on land, walking through crowds of humans and marvelling at the trees that towered over her. With time, the loneliness faded away and she found herself falling for the charm of a human, and she built a new life for herself. She told him of the sea, and diving for clams, and basking in the winter sun, and thought that perhaps, she would even tell him of her sealskin.

She had never thought that this world, with all its marvels, came with new and unexpected dangers, too. Like sharks cutting through the current, they would come for her husband, and for the first time in years, she brought out her sealskin, taking it away from its hiding place. The dark, mottled grey fur was just as soft as she remembered, and lay next to her little one’s white and gleaming fur.

With a weary sigh, she bundled them up, and looked over to her son, sleeping peacefully in his cot across the room. Hopefully, she could leave the furs bundled up where they were. But if the time came, she would be ready to fall into the waves of the ocean once more.

the way this fic stresses me out

weird opening to a rec, i know but hear me out: the mounting tension is a perfectly paced build that sets up the culmination to hit like a hammer

it’s also a really excellent study in how isolating fear and stress can be and how even the most well-intentioned comfort can be the least comforting thing in the world and idk maybe that’s a weird thing to rec about it too but i think that’s so real and messy and i love how the discordant note of it plays into the tension

i know it’s not meant to be but it plays as an excellent counterpart to back to our cocoon which is only not on this list bc i made the stupid ass decision to stick to five but you should def consider that recced as well

look, i am not usually an OC person when it comes to fic, i’m here for what i’m here for, you know? but mar and elena are apparently the exception to that rule

it’s also a testament to how rich and in-depth the delinquents verse is that it can support such a built out, fully realized side-quest style fic for two characters who, while fairly close to the central plot, aren’t remotely the focus of it

also i know this fic is all about mar and elena getting together and do not get me wrong, they are the absolute cutest and everything about their story makes me scream, the part of this fic that really makes my heart go haywire is the mar and rio of it all

idk precisely why but i am ridiculously invested in rio having bffs on ruby and annie’s level and gOD does the relationship with mar megan’s crafted deliver on that like whoa

everything about their relationship from the literal reality of it to the way that rio’s an indelible part of mar’s mental landscape is pitch perfect and so, so precious to me

okay last night i collected all of the snippets from like. what i consider the default/basic leopard au. maybe not all of them. we've been doing this for a while. but most of them. anyway. here are my favs, organized chronologically (roughly).

“Mistyfoot was carrying my kits, Mudfur,” Tigerstar says, Leopardstar’s body still between them, unbreathing. “You took them from me.”

He sighs, studying Leopardstar. He gave her a RiverClan death, he said, held her head under the water until she was dead.

“You can’t get them back. But she can.”

“You didn’t think I’d just overlook this, did you?” Tigerstar says, Leopardstar staring at him with no attempt to hide her anger. “It’s alright. I’ve heard queens get confused sometimes.”

“I’m not a queen,” she says, her eyes narrowing.

“Not yet,” Tigerstar says. “But don’t worry. We have time to fix that.”

“You deserve this,” Mudfur says, and he is going to hell for this.

Tigerstar doesn’t respond, and Leopardstar’s ears pin back.

“Tell me, Mudfur, was her mother this pathetic?”

I’ll take every last life from her, Mudfur, Tigerstar had threatened. Maybe I’ll make you take one. Test me. It’ll be fun to see her bleed again.

“Yes,” he says, and Brightsky won’t forgive him. I’m sorry, he thinks, but it’s too late for that.

Tigerstar licks her flank. “I’ll give you six moons with them,” he says. “And then I think they’ll be old enough to know their mother is nothing but a useless whore, don’t you?”

“Yes,” Mudfur says. “They will.”

Stonefur stares at her.

“I’m so sorry,” she says, her ears pinned back.

“Leopardstar, I–” His voice breaks. Cautiously, he steps towards her. “It’s alright.”

I’m sure, Tigerstar told her, there won’t be any questions. Because if there are, I’ll just have to show them.

Leopardstar knows what she looks like. “I’m sorry,” she repeats.

She tries to reconcile discordant images. Brightsky, as told to Leopardkit. Brightsky, as told to Leopardstar. Brightsky, as told.

She remembers her mother’s scent, and she misses her in a way she hasn’t for years.

Leopardstar leaves alone. It is a long walk to the Moonstone, and it is one she makes in silence. She tries not to think of the kits she left behind to come.

When the Moon rises, she enters Mothermouth. Leopardstar has only been here twice: once as an apprentice, and again as a leader.

Are you – praying? Tigerstar asked. He laughed. I don’t know why you bother. StarClan doesn’t take prayers from cats like you.

But she has to try.

“We weren’t mates,” Leopardstar says, the first time they ask.

“He died in battle,” she says, the second time.

“We didn’t love each other,” she says, the third and fourth and fifth time.

“I wouldn’t have wanted him to raise you,” she says, the sixth.

“He caused hurt, to cats,” she says, the seventh.

“Know that I love you,” she says, the eighth.

“He hurt me,” she says, the nineth.

She meets his eyes for the first time in nearly a year.

“I am trusting you with her,” she says. It is a personal statement hidden in a public ceremony. He thinks – she is staring at him with a quiet rage, one the Clan might not notice, but he does.

I won’t fail her, Mudfur thinks. I’m sorry I failed you.

“Did Mudfur – hurt you?” Frogheart asks. The question is quiet. Like he is not sure he wants the answer.

Leopardstar narrows her eyes.

“It’s just – you act like it. You’re avoiding him, even now.”

Hurt, Leopardstar decides, has taken on too many meanings of late. Tigerstar hurt Featherpaw. He hurt Mistyfoot. He hurt her. She thinks – it means something different each time. Maybe something similar from her to Mistyfoot, but not the same. She won’t add another meaning to it.

“I was his daughter,” she says, “and he – failed to protect me.” She shakes her head slightly, licking her paw. “I need to make sure Dawnflower and her kits are settling,” she says.

“You would be so proud of her, Brightsky.” He rests his head on his paws. “I hope you’re still watching her.”

“I’m fine, Mothwing.”

Her tail flicks. “You might be. And – she deserves the option.”

Mudfur sighs. He wouldn’t win an argument, even if he had the energy to fight it. He may still pull through, but it has never been this murky.

Leopardstar waits outside his den. She wears an old expression, one he had nearly forgotten. Mothwing licks her shoulder, and Leopardstar’s whiskers twitch. She flicks her tail, dismissing Mothwing.

“Please don’t lie to me,” she says. “Are you going to be okay?”

Please don’t lie to me. He wants to say, Parents always lie to their kits. But he thinks they both know that too well by now.

“I might be,” he says. “I’m not sure.”

“I’m not sure,” Leopardstar says, “what you’d prefer.” She rarely comes to Brightsky’s shrine. Mudfur frequents it, but she knows her mother only through hazy memories of her scent and his words. “But you were his mate. So I’ll build his here.”

“Are you going to be okay?”

Today, he doesn’t think so. He tells her.

“Brightsky has been waiting a long time for you,” she says.

Parents always lie to their kits, he thinks, because he won’t tell her Brightsky has long abandoned him.

Instead, he says, “Leopardstar, I love you.”

She blinks at him, and then touches her nose to his. It is the first time they have touched in years. “I love you too,” she says. “Please don’t leave me.”

The Plan(TM) (re: Mikau’s WIPs) 2: Electric Boogaloo

Hi, guys. Time for another status update. ^.^ 

I’m wrapping up my Lukadrien June 2021 piece Your Hands Hold Home right now, so I should be on track to post the final chapter of that on 06/30/2021.

Below is a list of other projects I plan on working on in the coming months. Let me know what sounds interesting or what you’re excited for.

Le Carnaval: (various pairings and platonic interactions) So, @miraculousfanworks is doing Snippet July. There are prompts for each day, and the stories/chapters for each prompt have to be one thousand words or less. I recently made a post requesting pairings, and I’m going to use the pairing prompts I received from you guys and the Snippet July prompts to create a collection of short stories featuring various romantic pairings and platonic interactions between characters.

Zebras Can’t Change Their Stripes: (Lukadrien) After four years, Adrien is back in Paris, broke, and ready to try to reconnect with friends and get his life back on track. Meanwhile, Luka is going through a breakup and struggling not to be a total wreck. They’ve grown and changed, but they’re still the same people underneath it all. As they try to pick up where they left off, they support one another, and their friendship slowly grows into something more.

So, this one is on hiatus while I do Lukadrien June. I have some days off scheduled at the beginning of July, so I hope to finish writing this then and resume posting in July. I just have two-ish chapters left. I really want to do Snippet July, though, so Zebras might get pushed back a little more while I work on that. ^.^; Sorry in advance! Thanks for your patience.

Marichat May: In April, I made a post asking you guys to pick Marichat May prompts for me to combine into a single story. I still plan on doing that story. It’s just taking longer than anticipated for me to get around to it. XD

Plagg and Wayzz Prompt: (Lady Noir) I got a comment on one of my stories that said, “Can you do a top wayzz bottom plagg one? Preferably in universe and in human form. Doesn’t have to be smut.” First I thought, “What the bloody hell?” because it was a comment on a Lukadrien story, and that’s all it said, and I thought, “Well, that’s random.” I’ve never really written Wayzz before, but this gave me the idea for a story where the team is up against an akuma that somehow separates them from their kwamis, leaving the heroes unable to detransform and the kwamis in defenseless human form. What I came up with really doesn’t have anything to do with the prompt other than Plagg and Wayzz will both be in human form. It will probably just end up being a Lady Noir identity reveal piece, honestly.

Adrien Trapped in AU-Land: (Adrienette, canon universe featuring AUs) My idea is based off of a writing prompt submitted by @graaythekwami on the @miraculousfanworks Discord server: AU where all the characters wake up in a different AU every chapter, fully remembering what happened in the last AU. My idea is for Chat Noir to get hit by an akuma (probably named Escapist or something equally dumb ^.^) who traps Adrien in a series of alternate realities (AUs) until he realizes his feelings for Marinette and manages to break free.

Adrienette Hanahaki: A while ago I did an ask game about a trope I’d like to try writing, and the one I came up with was Adrien with Hanahaki disease (The one where you start coughing up flower petals due to unrequited love making flowers grow inside your lungs). I’ve been thinking about it, and I’ve decided I’d like to actually write this story. My basic outline is: Adrien starts showing symptoms, and Gabriel badgers him about whom he’s in love with, and Adrien just blurts out, “Marinette!” And Gabriel threatens Marinette into dating Adrien, and they start fake dating but then fall in love.

L’Amour de Loin: (Lukadrien, post-Papillon defeat, Félix wingman) I did a sneak peek for this here. Adrien is living in London with his aunt and cousin three years after Papillon’s defeat and arrest. He’s in rough shape and hasn’t kept in touch with anyone from Paris. One day, he gets a text from Luka out of the blue, and they rekindle their friendship. Félix acts as wingman to ensure that it turns into something more.

Happenstance and Magic: Marichat May 2019. Marinette and Chat Noir adopt kittens together, and Adrien tries to get Marinette to see that he’s not perfect but still a worthwhile person deserving of her love.

I’ve been thinking about this one, and I think I’m going to cut the number of prompts I actually use. Once I’m done with the other stories, I want to sit down and make a more thorough outline of what I want the story to be and which prompts I’m going to use to get me there.

The Seduction of Adrien Agreste: This is part of the Springtime in Wonderland (Daisy/Jabberwocky) series. It deals with Luka and Adrien experimenting with physical intimacy to see if they can reach a compromise where Luka and (asexual) Adrien are both comfortable and have their needs met.

Things Currently on the Backburner:

The Rejects Club: Predominantly Marichat with Adrienette. Chat Noir and Marinette unexpectedly grow very close very fast as they open up to one another after Marinette overhears Adrien seemingly dismissing her as a romantic prospect. Identity shenanigans at farcical levels ensue.

I can’t really deal with Rejects right now. I’m feeling super overwhelmed by basic life stuff, so I don’t really have the mental or emotional energy to put into a story where I don’t know how many more chapters there will be until the end. I’m thinking that what I have planned will take at least another one or two hundred thousand words. This thing is just so massive, and I’m not in good enough mental heath to deal with it right now.

Springtime in Wonderland: Yeah, no. See the paragraph directly above. I was already having trouble with my mental health in 2019, and 2020 took a sledgehammer to my already frail state. This story is another one that’s going to take another couple hundred thousand words to complete, and I just don’t have the stamina in me right now. I’d rather focus on smaller projects that actually feel attainable. I’m trying not to burn myself out.

That’s what I have for now. There are a couple other ideas I’m toying with, so you may see a couple one-shots not listed here. I just don’t want to formally commit to writing anything else at the moment. So. Is there anything that you’re particularly interested in? Let me know what you’re thinking.

I dunno if it send my ask or if I just deleted it accidentally T_T So I'm sorry if you get it twice! Is the snippets for the artists AFTER they chose the bang? so is a summary needed with the snippets for the artists to choose, and then after choosing they get the authors information? Or is it for posting before the choosing, that they can choose from the snippets they are offered? <3 I mean, in the faq it says AFTER but I wanted to make sure lots of love <3

I didn’t get the ask here but I saw the question on Discord so I’ll basically cut/paste.

We don't let the artists read the snippets until after they choose. What you'll be sending in along with the snippets is a synopsis of the story, and we'll post that on Dreamwidth (we used to do the posting claims on LJ, but no one's using that site much these days) under the fandom for your story. The synopsis is usually title, fandom, rating, pairings, characters, story summary (like what you would post in the summary section on AO3) and anything else you want prospective artists to know. We'll post a form up for you to use when we collect the snippets.

Then there's a form the artists fill out with their top three picks (each synopsis has a number) and then once a story is picked, I email them the writer's contact info, the synopsis and the snippets. We do this so hopefully it doesn't clog up a lot of people's pages with 300+ snippets of a fic (and the snippets can get up to 1,500 words so we have some long snippets in there). We all hope authors will share more than the snippets with the artists when they contact each other, but that isn't always the case. Our mod who does art, Bere, has a form people will fill out to get more specifics on what they want for their art without sending the whole thing, because in the past when I've done it I've had anywhere from 10 to 20+ pieces of art to do as a pinch hitter. It's easier to work off information on a form plus the snippets that way.

The Basic Rundown

There will be three teams based upon the fest theme. Participants will be given the chance to request a team upon sign up, but we make no guarantees that you will receive the team you requested, as teams need to be at least relatively even for voting purposes. This is, in fact, a competition, but only in the spirit of pushing each other further to create better works for this ship we all love so much.

Each participant will create a work, fic or art, based upon not only the theme but a prompt. Details on the prompts as well as how to claim them will be revealed after the teams are solidified. Then, those works will be revealed and voted upon in a blind vote to determine how each team did.

During the creation time there will be both team and inter-team activities. These will all be low key and completely optional. They’re just a way to spend some time with your team/fest participants and have a little fun to keep tensions low and promote a friendly sort of competition.

Once posting begins there will be a poll attached to each work, which will be posted anonymously, for readers/viewers to vote on how well the piece fit the theme of the fest as well as how well it fit the prompt. Those votes will be averaged for a total team score at the end of posting. Please keep in mind that these works are not in direct competition with each other. The voting is not meant to compare works. There will simply be a representative work from each team. Please be aware that team participants and mods will not be allowed to vote, for fairness purposes!

As this is a scored fest please keep in mind that all works are to be anonymous. We understand that this is slightly difficult for artists as style may be recognizable, but please do your best. This means that you may not share any snippets, anything more than very vague ideas, or any pieces or bits of your creations until after the reveals when the work is wholly yours to do with as you wish. We do understand the concern about posting unsigned art, so we will be providing a Wolfstar Games watermark for any artist that wishes to use it. And if you have any concerns about this please contact a mod and we will see what we can do for you.

Just remember, Wolfstar Games is about having fun and creating more content for our favorite boys, not about winning or losing. And most importantly, it’s about having fun!

Theme: COMMUNICATION

This means any form of communication. Anything from a story about miscommunication, to a comic about receiving a bunch of letters, to the art of telling someone they are loved through touch. Reading a book in braille, learning sign language for a loved one, telling a story through a collection of tattoos. There are so many options.

Time Line:

Sign-ups begin on Wednesday, June 10th and last through Sunday, June 21st, ending at 11:59pm Eastern time (GMT-5). Sign-ups will happen via google form, so please watch this space for that to go live.

Teams will be announced on Wednesday, June 24th, so please watch this space for more info.

Prompts will be available for viewing only on Wednesday, June 24th.

Prompts will be available for claiming on Monday, June 29th and will close at 11:59PM EST (GMT-5) on Friday, July 3rd. Prompts will fall into three categories: Word based, Image based, and Audio based. Each prompt will be available only one time per team, so the sooner you make your selections the more likely you are to get the prompt you want. If, for any reason, you are not available during any of the claiming period please contact a mod and we will make accommodations for you.

Works are due by 11:59 PM on Sunday, October 18th EST (GMT-5). As always we want this to be fun and low stress, so if there are any problems with finishing please just contact a mod and we will work with you to see what we can do. As this is a team competition there may be a small points penalty incurred for late works, however, so please contact a mod as soon as you can if there are any difficulties. There will be check ins along the way to see how everyone is doing and make sure there are no issues, but if something arises please don’t feel the need to wait for a check in to talk with a mod. That’s what we’re here for.

Posting begins Monday, October 26th and runs until we run out of works.

The winning team will be revealed once posting is complete and the mods have had a chance to tally the votes. Keep watch on this space for more information on that further into the fest.

Rule & FAQ

What sort of content am I committing to if I sign up?

For fic, the minimum word count will be 1000 words. There is no maximum, however, please keep in mind that ease of reading, which unfortunately sometimes includes length, will have an impact on how the voting goes. We would never dare to stifle anyone’s muse, so please write as the whim takes you, just keep that in mind when you’re creating.

There is no minimum size for art, but we would request that the maximum size be something that is easily viewable on a single screen. Again, we don’t want to cramp anyone’s creativity, but for voting purposes it’s helpful to be able to see the entire work at one time.

What sort of artwork is acceptable?

All art must be visual, original art. By original art, we mean that the final product must be an original product of the artist. Using photos for reference is fine, and you can use whatever traditional or digital medium you require, so long as the art starts and finishes as your own product. Photo manips are not allowed. Hit up the mods if you need clarity on an idea.

Can I use a work that I’ve published previously, or that’s been sitting in my drafts?

For this fest, we need all original content, none of which has been published previously. Since this is a theme and prompt-based fest, all creators should plan on starting new projects so they can be fully inspired by their chosen prompt.

Is there an age requirement to participate?

All ages are welcome! However, if you are under 18, your creation must be rated G or T on AO3.

Are there any other restrictions on creations?

This is a Wolfstar-centric fest, so we do ask that your creation focuses on Remus and Sirius’ relationship, though other pairings are welcome. All fics must be properly tagged with the appropriate content and trigger warnings on AO3. All fics must be edited, beta read, and legible.

Will I need to be signed up for any specific platforms to participate?

You will need an AO3 account for posting purposes. All fest info will be shared on Dreamwidth, Tumblr, and Twitter. A Discord chat system will be set up as well. All of these platforms, other than AO3, are optional.

Can I share snippets of my work on my social media?

Since this is an anonymous fest, we ask that absolutely no snippets or hints be shared during the run of the fest. Once the fest has concluded, you may post whatever you like to social media.

I can’t sign up, but I still want to participate, what can I do?

Open Letter

Hey April 15, 2020 self,

Here’s a letter to everyone that come straight to my thoughts. Short snippets of what I think of at the moment and overarching of my collective thoughts.

To Mom:  

Thanks you for always being there. I know life has been rough all your life. But that is something I admired about you. Despite the downs and the downs of the downs, you pushed through somehow. You somehow dug your way up. Despite the struggles of life, you managed to pull through. And you still kept what was best for me. I can’t speak for Cj and Lani. I believed you tried. I cannot thank you enough for what you have done. I wish the biggest of hugs to you when I see you again

To Dad:

You’re an interesting one. Always doing something around the house. Complaining about something. You never say, but you always do. That is my dad. Now that I’ve thought about it, you never really got mad at me. Only mad at everyone else. Cracking your dad jokes. Even though they are stupid and doesn’t make sense, its funny. Your social inept in public spaces are interesting. Always making a non-related joke to the cashier. Your special. I don’t remember you saying you love me, but your actions do. I too also appreciate what you have done in my life. 

To Lani:

Lani, you have come so far in life. Unfortunate that your in the situation your in right now. Truthfully speaking, you have set yourself up for this life. Drugs have always been in contact with you. You picked up your trails and continued with life, but it came back to bite you. We also shared special moments. I remember the times when I was small and we’d play some games together. In recent times, I’ve changed. And I don’t think you realize that I’ve changed from this small little Kaleo. I’ve grown. And it does not help that I haven’t seen you and you haven’t seen me both at our peaks. I hope you are able to recover, but that is all on you. I believe you can and you need to do it. If you can’t do it yourself I don’t know what else to say. Other than this is the life you will be choosing now

To CJ:

The experimental of the family. You were the first in our family to be the first blunt of Mom and Dad. I’m sorry for what might have happened between the three of you. I’m sad to hear that life has been a struggle to you. But I’m happy your trying to turn your life around. Visiting therapist for the troubles you had. Visiting a group to talk about your addictions. And out there again in the field of nursing. However, you never told me any of this. I only heard from mom. I wish that we were closing and you thought of me as an equal. But we too shared fond memories when I was young. Playing beer pong with your high school friends when I was small. Except I was playing water pong with the cups instead. Maybe this was training for when I went to college. Haha. But I hope things do get better for you. And I know you have helped me before. I will not forget that and I hope for us to become closer.

To Cencere:

Cencere you are genuinely a nice guy. I remember when we first hung out. It was the third week of Fall 2019 semester. We went as a group with the Dons Esports. We didn’t know each other at the time. The significance of that day was that it was your birthday. You choose to spend it with the Dons Esports. Someone you didn’t know too well, but came anyways. Thanks for being the flexi fairy. I was going to treat you to food outside, but the shelter-in-place happened. I really did appreciate what you did. 

To Jack A:

Jack you are interesting person too. Stupid memes and stupid memes. It’s the only thing I think of you. To be real though, I think that’s all there is between you and me. There is no connection. Now you are distant. That’s fine, things change and if your chillin, then that’s awesome. 

To Claudia:

Claudia you are confusing. I’m not too sure what is in store for you. One thing is for sure. It does seem a bit weird between us, well at least I think. Maybe its me making it weird. I did like you before, but I’m over that. I think we’d be good friends. But I’m not dwelling on that idea. I know life is rough and I hope things can be better. 

I can make more letters, maybe I’ll write them later but I wanna finish this last letter.

To Alex:

Thank you for challenging me in my thought. Thank you for always looking out for me. Thank you for being a friend. I can create a list of the thanks I have for you. You are the friend who is always there. And I know we will be life long friends. To you, you have grown so much. You have changed a lot since we met. The first time I met you in person was at the Pho place on Clement. It was a rainy day and I remember you commented that the Pho was alright on that day on discord. Not until a year ago, when our friendship started to nourish and take off. You’ve been in the shits from time to time. I would like to think I was with you in the shits. Masking our face in shits. But we gotta wipe off the shit eventually. Right? And that is what we have done. You survived. I survived. And we are living. That is what matters now. Able to live and witness the world around us. To lastly add on, I’ve learned a lot about you. Not only did I learn about you, but I learned a lot about myself. I can go on for days of all the stories we’ve shared together. I want to write more, but this letter would look like a blob of moments.

Again, I didn’t capture everything I wanted. I didn’t write to everyone. This is a general idea of how I feel. Maybe a future post will include everyone or partly of everyone.

Fic Writer’s Year In Review

@sophiainspace​ did a post about this and since I figured I ought to try it out...here we go!

General fic stats for 2018

Word count on AO3: 199,754 words - most of which came from Bound By Silver Tongue. Go figure.

Number of fics on AO3: 27.

Most popular fic (by kudos):

Bound By Silver Tongue - my Ella Enchanted inspired Coldflash au fic. Summary: Sara Lance had touched his nose then, as his mother explained, with a shake of her head. Magic bled from her fingertips, seeping into his veins. “He’s got a pair of lungs on him, doesn’t he?" Len let out another wail in response and she snorted. "My gift will be obedience. Now, stop crying, Leonard.”

And for the first time that night, Len stopped crying.

(In which Leonard is cursed, Lisa has an affinity for shiny things, Barry feels pressured, and Cisco just wants to save Central Kingdom.)

I kind of expected it (since this is my multichap fic and those tend to bring in more kudos, especially for a popular pairing like Coldflash) but it’s really nice to know that people cared enough to kudos for the fic, even if it was only a couple hundred or so. Here’s to hoping that number grows before the end of 2019!

My favourite fic to write:

Hmm this one’s hard. I want to say Bound By Silver Tongue, but since it’s ongoing and there are definitely days when that fic is more frustrating than fun to write.... How about oceans you once crossed (now they disappear) - my Coldwestallen 1940′s fic. 

Summary: "Do you ever think about what will happen after?"

"After?"

"You know... After the war ends? When we go home?"

When. Not if. There was never an if, never a doubt in the other’s mind.

As heart-wrenching as this fic was to write (and read over sometimes), this is one of the few fics I can stand to reread without nitpicking every last word. It’s definitely not everyone’s cup of tea, but I’m really proud of how it turned out, especially since I wrote it as fast as I could before the deadline for Coldwestallen Week. And now that I think of it, I believe this was my first ever Coldwestallen fic so...huh.

Funniest fic:

I’m not sure, to be honest, but I thought my short snippet for the “Food” day of Coldwestallen Week, Small Bites, was pretty funny at the time. 

Summary: “We’ve taken down metahumans and changed time and cheated fate. If Captain Cold can’t handle having a happy birthday, that’s on him. We’re going to at least finish frosting these cupcakes, though, because they smell delicious and I’m starving.”

Fluffiest fic:

I’m really bad at writing solely fluffy fics, oops. Maybe crawl into your atmosphere - my AgentReign fluff & hurt/comfort fic? I really enjoyed writing the kitchen scene with Ruby. 

Summary: Alex figured she deserved to be selfish, just this once. To hell with the consequences when she got to see Samantha Arias smiling down at her like she was sunshine incarnate, her hair haloed around her head in the dim light of the bedroom before she crushed their mouths together.

Saddest fic:

I know I’ve already put it on this list but hey...death and war and PTSD kind of take the cake on this one. So oceans you once crossed (now they disappear) definitely wins.

Most challenging fic to write:

What Tangled Webs We Weave - my VERY late submission to Coldwestallen Week’s “Superhero” prompt that I griped and groaned and nitpicked for months over. As much as I’m happy with how this fic turned out now, it makes me scowl to reread some of these scenes and just remember how many goddamn web phrases I had to write. Thank goodness for all the love and support via the Shipyard Discord server and for @kiddystormi and @sophiainspace for beta-ing this fic and all who encouraged me not to throw in the towel. 

Summary: “Damn radioactive spiders,” Len muttered under his breath.

“Lenny,” Lisa’s lips twitched in a valiant effort not to laugh as he searched the room for his sneakers. “You do realize you can’t blame your terrible flirting on an insect that gave you superpowers, right?”

Or, 5 Times Len Saved His Crush(es) and 1 Time They Kicked Ass to Save Him 

Fic I’m proudest of writing:

I can’t mention oceans you once crossed (now they disappear) AGAIN or Bound By Silver Tongue, so how about Speed Bump - my Coldflash role reversal fic that inspired the series it’s now part of. I may have restarted it about seven times, but I’m proud of how it turned out in the end. It also helps that people commenting mentioned the characterization and the parallels to canon I tried to keep, and nothing makes me happier than comments about good characterization, since that’s one of my biggest worries. <3 

Summary: When it came down to it, Barry seemed to take pride in making his life difficult.

Least popular fic:

Walking in a Winter Wonderland, but this makes sense because it’s a little self-indulgent collection for all of my prompted fics about the Killer Frost!Barry au @agentmarymargaretskitz and I’ve been obsessing over. Not that I don’t love it, of course, but I also have barely written for the au as it is. Probably should get on that.

Honourable mentions:

i believe we’ll (be okay) - my Goldenvibe fix-it set in S3 of Flash that I do wish got more love because I’m bitter about Lisa and the handling of these brothers CW has no problems killing off, okay? Cisco and Lisa deserved better. 

Summary: Cisco hadn't intended on spending the night.

This just went up recently, but my Thundergrace fix-it (because really, do CW writers know nothing about continuity?) To Face Unafraid (The Plans That We Made) is one I’m rather proud of, since I’m hoping to write more of these girls in 2019. 

Summary: Grace, Grace, Grace. Her thoughts always came back to Grace these days.

General writing reflections:

I’ve been in a bit of a writing slump until 2018. Up until I posted that first chapter of Bound By Silver Tongue, I hadn’t truly sat down and written fanfic or anything for myself since 2016. Writing original works didn’t help. Trying to go back and write chapters of fics I already had up didn’t work. It wasn’t until I got inspired and sat down to plan out BBST for the first time in my life that I realized I was genuinely excited to write again. And this past year has granted me the most fics I’ve ever written - including prompts - and that’s just since April! I wrote 17 fics for Ao3 this year, and while I know amount doesn’t matter, writing these fics helped me realize just what was holding me back. I’ve learned to take up betas and even just supportive friends to bounce ideas off of so I can stop fussing over my work, even when it’s not necessary, and while editing my own work isn’t a bad thing, I’m learning to relax and stop worrying about every line. Each time I sit down now, I try and make time to sprint and write things that I enjoy, rather than what people demand - because I love feedback, but seeing Moar please!!! Sequel!!! was what drove me into the ground and to write for fics I didn’t have much interest in in the first place. I’m also trying to leave more comments, since I always forget to and there are so many incredible content creators in these fandoms.

Hey. Let’s Talk~ :3

Been awhile since I did a proper talk.

So, first off. Sorry, for the lack of posts. But. Hey! At least I was able to toss out to AU info sheets! Sooo, that’s good right? ^^;

Anyway… Here’s some things I’ve got planned and am hoping to get out soon. First Off, AUs, and Story WIPs.

AUs

I’m hoping to write up and put together info sheets on: KuroVillainous, Contained (SCP AU), Loyalty, and the Bodyguard AU. If possible I’ll even be doing some Character sketches and refs.

I will be going back and Working on previous AU designs for KV, Reaper, and Villainous Dolls.

I have been thinking about it, and it is possible that I’ll be making an Ask blog for one of the AUs. Maybe more. I’m not sure. But I’m definitely making an ask blog for one of them. If ya’ll have a certain AU you’d really like to see tell me and I’ll be sure to keep it in mind when I get around o preparing to make the blog.

I am going to be trying my best to flesh out the AUs as best as I can and try to avoid making new ones, at least until the ones I have right now are taken a care of.

Current Story WIPs

Loyalty AU, Main Story: This has… been in thought and planning, ever since my first story “Loyalty” was written and posted. I was hesitant at first… as this was originally supposed to be an Origin type story… but it soon was made into an AU probably when I started making other AUs.

I have started the story. The prologue is in the works, and I’d say about third of the way done.  Its still an Origin AU of sorts. And I’m planning on it probably being a multi-chapter mess. But… I’m looking forward to finishing it up and finally being able to post it.

Deal with the Devil, KV AU, Main Story: Chapter 2 has been started. It’s… no where near done. But, its being worked on. This is planned to be a long story. With it being a Slow burn, and with how I want to try and handle this AU with it being inspired by the anime/manga Black Butler there’s a lot I have to take in consideration and plan to make it fully its one au. I don’t want it being a complete parody of this series.

With this AU also still being in development with the Story to help create and set everything in place, please be patient with me as I work on it. Because of it still being in development, its one of the AUs I actually in mind for the Ask Blog.

Sweet Little Doll, Villainous Dolls AU, Main/Side Story: While this AU was first made simply for my love of Living Doll AUs, I really fell in love with it. And… SLD, really isn’t a main story, but its the first story, and I labeled it as Main, because its the first story. But I will be doing a two or three shot Main story line for it eventually. But Back to this story. This is going to be short. Three or four chapters at most. The second chapter hasn’t been started yet.

I will be starting it soon though. Once of course I have some more things written out. And worked on. But the next chapter is coming don’t worry. I have this already planned out I know where its going.

Not A Victim, Villainous, ???: Ok. By popular demand, the second installment is in the works. I… have no clue if this is a collection… or a two shot… or….. what ever. It was originally just a story of Flug being a salty, sassy, badass. And You all jumped on it like wolves on a deer. Like… DAMN.

Sooo, there’s more coming. I have no clue if there will be more or not… I guess thats entirely up to all of you.

Requests

I have two requests. Both of which have been thought over, one has been started, the other is still being planned. To the two anons who requested the Fluffy Paperhat story and the NSFW Paperhat story, thank you very much and I will be taking time between working on everything else to work and try to get the stories done as quickly as I can.

Alright. So. I have A LOT of WIPs for stories. About 11 possibly 12, not counting the ones mentioned. I’m only really going to do a few though

The Life of Death*, Reaper AU, Main Story, One-shot: *Name might change. This is the Main Story for the Reaper AU. It is very close to completion. However, I have paused in working on it. But it is planned and will be finished soon.

Unwanted Protection, Bodyguard AU, Possible Main story: I started this off when I first thought of the AU. Work is Paused. But I have a good amount of work on it.

Party, Villainous, Discord inspired: Been a WIP for months. I’d say… its about half way done.

The Attack, Villainous: Long awaited Prequel to “4 years” which was posted to AO3. Not sure if I posted it here or not. But its been a wip for months. Its coming, I promise.

WIP 3*, Villainous, ??: *Nameless as of now. This was something I wrote out… a short snippet of sorts based off a scene in a show I was watching at the time. And … I read through it and saved it in a doc. I’ll be adding on to it and hoping to post it soon.

That’s it. There’s a lot that is in the works. And I’m really hoping to get the Requests and Loyalty Story posted soon. I know its been… been really quiet lately. But I’m really hoping to pick things up soon.

i really wish ao3 had a private messaging system... i only upload smut fics on tumblr bc a) i know i’ll cringe when i re-read them in the future and it’s easily buried on this site and b) i have irl friends who know my ao3 username so... it would be awkward if they read them

but because of reason A i’m also getting annoyed. i kind of don’t want to upload my fics directly on tumblr anymore; instead, i’ll only offer ao3 links and tags/descriptions. this sucks for when i want to only show previews/snippets and ask for advice/know i’ll never finish them, but thanks to the new discord chat i can basically just go there... plus it’s more personal and really feels like a group discussion instead of just shouting into the void, u know

which also disappoints me a bit since i made this blog to be a collection of daza.tsu fanworks, but im not really feeling this site anymore. i feel like it’s so difficult to hold a discussion here, or to keep track of who’s uploading new content (esp if you don’t follow them), or get your work noticed. and it’s not just my work, because lbr my writing is damn pretentious... but seeing other artists/writers who create good content and only get a few notes and even fewer comments? that’s kinda discouraging

i mean, thanks to tumblr we’ve had several otp weeks and events and that fostered a lot of new content and discussion! and there’s so much good meta on here that you can save, respond to, and reblog. but yeah, for treatment of fanworks, i’m not feeling it. i think for fanfiction tumblr is a shitty place to share it in general, because this site’s tagging system is impossible. people also don’t like reblogging fic (although i appreciate replies! thank you for them :D) for some reason, at least compared to fanart (maybe bc it isn’t as aesthetically pleasing? or you just dont like to share them? idk)

in the end... well.. i’m not sure what the point of this rant is. who knows, i might go back on my word and end up posting fic directly on tumblr again (and not just links), even if it’s all basically smut. i just wanted to vent out some feelings i’ve had recently. 

i’ve been on tumblr for five years now, and i always end up quitting... then going back... then quitting... then going back. it’s an endless cycle lmao so this post might be irrelevant in the future again

but for real. reblog fanfic if you enjoy it. leave a comment in the tags. it doesn’t matter how popular the blog is; a post won’t circulate if you won’t let it.
