Short analysis: Absalom and his namesake
After seeing Oda revealing Kuma's past, I felt inspired to dig deeper into one biblical reference that many people take for granted...
Back in Thriller Bark, we're introduced to one of Gecko Moria's henchmen: Absalom
Due to the other biblical references found in the story, the name chosen for this character is pretty unlikely to be a coincidence. But, who was Absalom?
Tumblr media
He was the third son of King David. He was a pretty cunning guy who tried to overthrown the King to take the throne for himself. During his rebellion, what was his point of no return?
He forced himself on his father's concubines. To put it in other words, Absalom forced himself on the King's partner(s), which earned himself a death sentence going by the law of that time.
During his final battle against David's forces, Absalom meets his demise at the hands of the angriest general of the King's army
How is Absalom's life and death relevant to his One Piece's namesake?
Well, during the Thriller Bark arc, we have Absalom kidnapping and trying to force Nami into marrying him. Fighting and losing a battle against Sanji. And even using his dream of becoming the "Graveyard King" to convince her to stop resisting
Tumblr media
So, we have a wannabe king trying to force himself on a companion of the future Pirate King, and suffering a humiliating defeat at the hands (or feet) of one of the angriest fighters at the "service" of a "true king"
Of course, it's not a one to one comparison, for example, Israel's Absalom didn't survive his battle, while One Piece's Absalom survived and escaped Thriller Bark.
However, if we take into consideration how Oda uses or references other literary works, the parallels found here might be all intentional. But, what does mean for LuNa? I can't tell...
However, what I can say is what we know so far: Oda could've gone a different way and have Absalom focusing on Robin. Instead, the author chose the woman that, by his own admission, has a "natural queen-ly-ness" to her
A 'Queen' that not only commands authority in the strawhat ship, but also acknowledged only one man as a future king...
Tumblr media
Absalom tried to force himself on a 'queen' just to get a beating from a fighter of her "king." It feels poetic, if you ask me

I Don’t Care If You’re Insincere
Sakusa Kiyoomi x reader; angst
WC: 590
There’s a faint buzzing under your pillow. You groan as your bleary eyes squint trying to shield themselves from the too bright light of your phone screen.
1 missed call.
Despite it being two-thirty something in the morning, you feel your heart rate pick up as your eyes take note of the number beside the notification.
1 voice message.
Your fingers work on autopilot as you tap in your pin and unlock your phone. Your thumb hovers over the notification. Was there a point in even listening when he hasn’t heard you in so long? Your thumb slips and presses the button.
You hear the sound of laughter in the background and know that he must be with the rest of the team. The laughter grows muffled and more faint. He must be moving away from the group. There’s silence for a while and then a quiet sigh.
“Hi sweetheart.”
His voice, a sound that once washed comfort over you, now prickles at your skin. But despite yourself, you close your eyes. If you shut your eyes tight enough maybe you could delude yourself into believing that he was with you, lying right by your side. But that’s wrong. This. No, you. You aren’t where he belongs.
“You looked too peaceful this morning for me to disturb,” he says with a quiet chuckle and you realize your face has contorted into a scowl as the now familiar feeling of irritation settles in your chest. You had woken up that morning, arm immediately stretching out to hold onto Kiyoomi, but all you were able to grasp were the already made sheets on his side of the bed.
“I know we have a lot to talk about when I get back.”
Sakusa Kiyoomi is a man who chooses his words carefully. Most would call him blunt, but you’d prefer to call him sincere. He does sincerity as easily as breathing. He says get back with an air of nonchalance, but you notice it; he doesn’t say come home. And to be honest, there is a part of you that’s relieved. These four walls you had moved into with him all that time ago hasn’t felt like a home for the two of you for a while now.
“I know you must be sleeping. I’ll call in the morning,” he promises and then there is silence on the line. You almost tap the button to end the call, but then you hear it.
“I love you.”
Damn him.
You shouldn’t be well acquainted with the growing feeling of resentment in your chest, but here you lie with sobs wracking your body. You love this man, there is no denying it. And he says he loves you back. You replay the voice message just to hear the last three words.
I love you.
He had sounded so genuine, so goddamn sincere.
You tap his contact on your phone. One ring and then two.
“Sweetheart?” his voice crackles over the line. The connection must not be the best wherever it is that he and the team were heading to.
“Kiyo,” you gather your breath. “I love you.”
He says your name. “Have you been crying?” And although you two aren’t connected via video, you can see the scrunch of his brow in your mind.
You laugh, and it sounds hollow even to your ears. “I love you, Kiyoomi,” you repeat. “Please tell me you love me too.”
He doesn’t hesitate. “Of course,” he breathes. “I love you too.”
“Kiyoomi.” You pause.
“Stop lying to yourself.”

FOUR KNIGHTS OF THE APOCALYPSE THOUGHTS
I've been relatively silent for far too long and as compensation, let me share the things that have been occupying my head for the longest time.
"Knights" of the Apocalypse
I've posted my wishful thinking of the four knights possibly having their own squads before. It's cool to think that each of the four knights would be the Captains of their own title. Like, Knights of War, Knights of Death (sounds the coolest tbh), Knights of Pestilence, Knights of Famine. I still think that this is extremely unlikely because if this were to happen Nakaba would have to focus on so many people but it still sounds really cool.
Narrative-wise, we already have the Percival Platoon and the Tristan Platoon, and in my good honest opinion. The Percival Platoon has a higher chance to be relevant later on. Each Platoon has four members, including Percival and Tristan (we are not counting Lance in this) but Jade died, and we already got Chion's backstory (Nakaba can kill him off by making him save someone that is not Tristan) Isolde being the potential love interest for Tristan (and Gawain hihihi) is the only thing that is keeping her around. With the Percival Platoon, however, Anne is the potential love interest of Percival and her mom has a history with Arthur since she was once a Knight of Camelot, Nasiens is still a mystery and Donny still needs some hours on the oven for character development. My point is Percival and his Knights of Death (in my head) are complete and packed.
What about Tristan then? Tristan's platoon could possibly stay with him and the narrative. However, Thetis can be put into play here. Thetis is Derieri's reincarnation and she remembers everything, Thetis was once a demon and her story with Monspiet ended tragically and the girl needs a happy ending, so... Who is to say that Monspiet didn't also reincarnate (that would be a cool plot for Thetis). Then, we have Zeldris and Gelda, and I know them having a kid isn't mentioned in any way shape or form but I want them to have one (this is slowly turning into an AU). So, with that in mind, Tristan's new squad should consist of Isolde, Chion, Thetis, Monspiet reincarnation and Zel and Gelda's kid. Did you spot a theme here, most of the characters listed are or was a demon. Tristan struggles with his identity and he doesn't have any control over his demon side so it should be neat for him to have someone who can help him through it. Granted, I believe Mael is his perfect teacher since he once wielded both powers.
Now, let's get into Lancelot. I only have three candidates. Rou's reincarnation, King and Diane's eldest and/or possibly Tioreh. Rou and Derieri are currently in the same position. They have both reincarnated with their memories still intact, but Rou has already been reincarnated to Oslo then he died and got reincarnated again. I've said that it would be cool and fun and happy if he got reincarnated as a fairy so he could be with Gerhade, but he could very well be reincarnated as a human and his story would revolve around reuniting with Gerhade either way that's how his story will go. King and Diane's kids are pretty self explanatory since they are Lance's cousins. King and Diane's eldest is intriguing for me especially because of Disaster. Disaster isn't something we've seen at its pure and raw form, when King uses Disaster it's always with the Spirit Spear and King and Diane's eldest could be the character that can showcase just what Disaster can do on its own, and being the eldest and heir to be the next Fairy King The Sacred Tree can give him the power of Disaster. So what I'm saying is Lance's squad is literrally Fairy supremacy.
Lastly, Gawain. This one is easy. Gawain has Sunshine. Her team is the perfect way to revive the Four Archangels... well the graces of the four Archangels.
That's all for my rambling. Next time, I'll talk about the Demon Realm Arc. I have a few things to saw about the Demon Realm Arc.

Seeing Space for the First Time (Fives x Reader)
As someone who had never left Coruscant, the idea of seeing space was a mere daydream. But after meeting Fives and completing medical school, it became reality.
Rating: Pg
Warnings: none
Word Count: 545
Note: This has been sitting in my drafts for over a year now! I wanted to write it out, but it never got past the bullet point stage. Instead of letting it rot, I figured I'll post what I have at this point and maybe write it out in the future. Enjoy!
You had met Fives on Coruscant, you working with the Republic as a medical student
He had been injured in a previous battle, and you were shadowing a doctor as he was getting fixed up
Fives had sent you a slight smirk as he caught you watching
He was the last patient of the night, and he had approached you to ask if you wanted to go to 79’s with him
You accepted, and you hit it off right away
From that point on, every time he was on Coruscant he automatically tried to find you when he could
He even had a few times where he tried to convince his brothers to give him a small injury so he could be treated by you (obviously that didn’t happen)
After a year of knowing him, you graduated medical school and were told you were going to be assigned to a battalion to help in the war
Now at this news both you and Fives were terrified, if you were assigned to someone other than the 501st, then there could be a big chance that you would barely see each other
So he did what he had to, and pulled some strings to get you to be assigned to the 501st
Aka he bothered Rex until he broke and he requested for you to join their ranks
At this point in your life you had never left Coruscant, so going to other planets absolutely blew your mind
You hadn’t even considered what the ship was going to be like
So being amazed by the shuttle taking you to the attack cruiser you would be on probably was a sign that your mind was going to be blown
Fives had managed to sneak away from his brothers to be with you, and he was trying so hard to not laugh at how amazed you were
He was so used to space and space travel that seeing you act like this was just humorous
You had grabbed his hand, rambling about how excited you were about all of this
And when you saw the attack cruiser, oh boy, your mind was blown
You had seen pictures of these cruisers, but you didn’t realize how insanely big they are
So therefore Fives declared that he would give you a tour (even though he needed to report to Rex in an hour)
He had grabbed your hand, showing you around - first starting with his barracks and the mess hall)
You were near the front of the ship when it jumped to hyperspace
You saw the light flicker, then streak around all sides of the windows
Needless to say, you were mesmerized by the lights around you
You had pressed your hands against the glass, looking in every direction possible
Fives had a genuine smile on his face, his arms crossed as he watched you
He let you have a few minutes of staring out, then approached you
He placed an arm over your shoulders, teasing you about your reaction
You know he didn’t mean any harm, so you jokingly elbowed him in the side then leaned into him
You both stood there for many moments, losing track of time as you stared out into the vast expanse of space
