Song #71
I'd Rather Sleep by Kero Kero Bonito
It was released on September 30, 2013
Fun Fact: The song probably deals with mental illness (possibly depression), the discomfort felt by child while growing up and the struggle to regain the sense of innocence lost once you become an adult. The simplistic language used through the song is quite possibly a way to express the idea of the childish idealization of sleep and trying to escape reality.

"I feel so funny these days..."
Once again, Moonlight shuffled in discomfort, that funny feeling in her chest is back again. This wasn't the first time she was woken up from her sleep by this funny feeling. In fact, it all started a few days after your death. The news was very devastating for her, losing the one and only lover accompanying her and the stars...She didn't feel lonely when you were around, but now...things had changed.
"I'd rather sleep than stay awake."
Every waking moment for her is filled with loneliness and grief. She wishes that she could sleep and remain in her dreams forever, where you're still there with her, alive and healthy. She doesn't want to stay awake, she doesn't want to feel that horrible feeling, she doesn't want to cry anymore, she doesn't want to feel lonely again. 'What did I do wrong...?' was all she asked herself when she recalls your death. She doesn't like it. Not even one bit.
"Tress used to talk to me."
She had been isolating herself ever since your death. She finds it really, really hard to accept it, not after how she was alone for many, many years. She had lost contact with the other legendaries as well, now she had no one else to talk to. Poor Moonlight was in heavy denial, even though she knows your death isn't fake, she still finds it very hard to let you go. So she started to hallucinate and let her imaginations take control of her vision. She imagines that you were still there with her, talking and laughing with her.
"Now I know what's real and what is fake."
Although she knows very well that the version of you that she's talking to isn't real, she doesn't accept it. She does not want to let you go so soon. Moonlight thinks it's not fair. You perished too soon. She wanted you to live longer than this, you also had a whole future ahead of you, waiting for you to discover. As mentioned, Moonlight wasn't just in denial. She was in HEAVY denial.
"Now I know what's real, what's fake..."
Since Moonlight started sleeping and remaining in her dreams more often than usual, her sense of reality has started to fade. The hallucinations making it worse. But that's the impact of loneliness and very heavy denial, isn't it?
~~~~~~~~~~
I do not know what's wrong with me while writing this...
Well uh anyways-
I hope you enjoy!
Just wanted to share that this is now on YT! I've just started posting on my channel so any views/likes over there help :3
[Video description: An animation meme set to a slightly slowed version of the end of "I'd Rather Sleep" by Kero Kero Bonito, with a combination of frame-by-frame animation and tweening. It features Zephra, a thin, red-skinned tiefling woman with golden horns and eyes and black hair pulled back neatly. The first scene shows her hands as she pulls off a gold wedding ring. Her face is then shown, somber and with dark tear tracks, as she lip-syncs, "Now I know what's real, what's fake." Next, her forearm is shown as a tattoo in the form of an abstract black feather fades in over it. Now mostly shadowed and backlit in gold light, she lip-syncs, "Rather sleep than stay awake." As she does so, her eyes open to reveal that they are now black. Her hands are now shown again, holding a stack of papers, and a tear falls down onto the top paper. The camera zooms in on the paper to show handwritten text reading, "Subject 2." The next scene is in a much sketchier and uncolored style. It shows a younger Zephra holding hands with a young man as they smile at each other. Their eyes are crossed out. Inky blotches drop onto the scene to obscure it entirely. The final frame is of Zephra and the man, older once more, in bed. The man sleeps while Zephra sits up in bed, looking at him with suspicion. End description.]
Nareszcie! Nareszcie wideo o Paprociowej Chmurze, które naprawdę koncentruje się na niej i jej życiu. Przeżyła tyle tragedii, niemal wszystkie jej dzieci umarły przedwcześnie (serio, tylko Brzozowy Zachód nadal się trzyma), dwójka jej rodzeństwa zmarła w niemowlęctwie, jej matka została brutalnie ZAMORDOWANA, gdy Paprociowa Chmura była jeszcze dzieckiem, jej brat również został zamordowany, a później wyszło na jaw, że był zdrajcą i mordercą.
Tymczasem wszystko, co zwykle ludzie mówią to: "Cha, cha, zajmowała się dziećmi, to znaczy, że była bezużyteczna i leniwa, bo jak powszechnie wiadomo, dzieci karmią, myją i wychowują się same, a tak w ogóle, to kto potrzebuje dzieci?".
I feel so funny these days
I'd rather sleep than stay awake
Trees used to talk to me
Now I know what's real and what is fake
Now I know what's real, what's fake
Rather sleep than stay awake
Are we from outer space?
This doesn't feel like the right place
And we'll try anything
Just to be a kid once again
Just to be a kid again
Now I know what's real, what's fake
Rather sleep than stay awake
Just to be a kid again
