Cracker Island, Gorillaz, 24. February 2023.

I must say this was a pretty big disappointment from Gorillaz, and it's not a secret that I feel that this album is less than enjoyable. Knowing the extremely powerful creative force of Gorillaz, you would expect from Albarn something more than a rough draft of a rookie artist's first album.

Even the art department got the short end of the stick. Knowing all the great album covers, like Demons Days and Plastic Beach, this one ends up being nothing more than a badly done digital sketch of the final idea.

To start on a high note, the two singles, Cracker Island (featuring Thundercat) and New Gold, were decent. Two totally different songs, but none the less something you would expect from Gorillaz. New Gold is my favourite of the two; the psyhadelic Tame Impala voice perfectly blends with Bootie Brown's more funky-disco rap voice; even Albarn's voice was very nicely complimented in here. A great calm disco beat that is in a way modern but still has the Gorillaz stamp of approval.

The second single, Craker Island, was promising enough, but it didn't deliver as expected. The song overall is great; the instrumental beats were the standout, and if I may say, one of my favourites in general, so it's such a shame when you hear Albarn's not-so-singer voice get into the mix. It was rough and unpolished, and it destroyed the whole song for me. His strong British accent doesn't fit well as a lead disco singer.

But if I had to pick one song where it surely fits, it's Possession Island (featuring Beck). Unfortunately, it doesn't have any connection with the rest of the hyper-beat, disco-esc album and it is easily forgettable.

The rest of the album is all over the place, from Spanish pop-rap to slow orchestral baleds to, personally, one of the worst Gorillaz songs, Skinny Ape, which is a hyperbeat mashup of everything and anything. It's every ear's worst nightmare.

Even though genre mashup is what you expect from Gorillaz, you would at least think that it all has a certin flow to it and not the feeling that they threw everything on the wall and saw what sticks. If you are unable to produce something coherent, is it even worth it in the long run, not only for the artist but for the fans as well? It's hard for an album to just stand with two singles holing it up, but it's not the first time Gorillaz has done it.

I would love to have a different view on this album, but maybe at the moment it's not the right time.

I would give it a: You can skip this album easily. It's not even close to their best work, and for me, it's a waste of time. I would much rather recommend Plastic Beach if you haven't heard it and want to feel the full Gorillaz magic.

Why must you hurt me in this way.

Trevor: 7/10. A cliché personality, but enjoyable enough, and with a nice mini arc in S1. Too bad he was turned from protagonist to silly comic relief by S2.

Sypha: 5/10. She's supposed to be the plucky innocent girl, but she's just too rude and insensitive, and not even by design.

Alucard: 1/10. A cunt with a bad boob job.

Dracula: 9/10 in S1, 5/10 in S2. He started out so well in the first episode, being actually the grief-stricken monster he was supposed to be... and then he became a Stupid Old Depressed Man for the sake of propping up Carmilla. bruh.

Lisa: 4/10. Way less likeable than she appears. She's condescending towards the peasants she supposedly wants to help and she doesn't give a single shit about her only son, even preferring to let him grieve the death of his parents.

Hector: 8/10 in S2, 5/10 in S3, 2/10 in S4. Started out as a promising character with an unique worldview and genuinely morally grey. Became nothing more than a punching bag for Ellis, losing his personality and dignity in one fell swoop. Will always be remembered as the dude who fell for vampire pussy. The way he was written in S4, which was supposed to "fix" him, makes me want to destroy a house by punching it.

Isaac: 2/10. He gains some points by being the only character with a coherent character arc, even if rushed like hell. But he's still a pretentious prick who got unfairly sucked off by the story and nowhere near as "deep" as his fans tout - he was just lucky to be the only character written with respect in the shitstorm that was S3.

Carmilla: 3/10. She's like Mephiles and Starline all rolled into one unlikable OC villain who only exists to paint Dracula in a bad light. She seems like a mastermind manipulator only because everyone around her lost IQ points exponentially. She became utterly irrelevant after S2 and had a grandiose death for nothing. She could have been much more, but this is what happens when a sexist pig writes a radfem villain.

Lenore: 1/10. That one point is because she had the potential to be an interesting, fleshed out antagonist with again an intriguing grey morality. But she had the misfortune of being written by a hack who can't give his characters a consistent personality and a sex pest with a clear dommy mommy fetish, so she became rape apologism bait and now she pisses me off at sight :D

The Lesbians: who?/10. Waste of good character designs. At least Striga was used for Berserk bait.

The Japanese not-twins: 0/10. Completely pointess torture porn fodder.

St. Germain: 8/10 in S3, 5/10 in S4. Pretty enjoyable in his first appearance, and surprisingly faithful to the game counterpart in spirit. I didn't even mind his descent into villainy, in theory. But let's just say that his motivation is... lacking. and hilarious.

Death: fuck/10. He's the ShTH of NFCV.

Richter: 6/10. Not too bad? I don't understand the hatred for him. He's perfectly inoffensive, if not bland. The only line that made me go "bruh" was him correcting the girls about the meaning of "fraternity" lol

Maria: 4/10. This is not a character. This is a parody of a communist teen on Twitter.

Annette: 1/10. As I said multiple times, she doesn't feel like a character, but as carefully engineered rage bait.

Tera: don't care/10.

Abbot: 4/10. I would care about his conflict more if he wasn't the stupidest man alive. Also his Devil Forging machine sucks ass.

Cecile: 3/10. Maybe don't teach your student that she is perfectly in the right in looking down her white French friends...?

Edouard: WHEN I'M LAID/10.

Olrox: 7/10. As for now, he's fairly interesting, mainly because of his intrigue. A bit too try hard, though.

Bara Agent Stone: bro really was shocked at the abbot having a child when he was happily sticking his dick in a male vampire/10

Sun Thundercat: 0/10. By far the worst villain I've ever seen in any kind of story.

Tiddied Isaac: 4/10. I would like her more for her unapologetic style (calling it "personality" is a stretch) if she didn't expose the sheer hypocrisy in the fandom :^)

jazz fusion (alluded to this above but jazz fusion itself refers to jazz blends with other genres, some of which can get pretty out there.. given that you approached me, the smooth jazz guy, about this, I'll stick to the groups more firmly rooted in jazz, though I wanted to point out that this is a wide and varied genre): Pat Metheny Group (listen to them if you ignore everything else), George Duke, Fattburger, Yulara, The Rippingtons, Snarky Puppy, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis (later stuff specifically), Steely Dan

Bossa Nova (to note here, there are a lot of jazz artists that play with Bossa Nova elements, but to keep this list neat, I'm restricting this to Bossa Nova players specifically. I'm also, as you can tell, less of a straight ahead bossa nova guy): Sergio Mendes!, Joao Gilberto, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Stan Getz

Tygra from Thundercats. Had a friend when I was maybe ten and we'd hang out at recess and she'd make up Thundercats stories, and she loved picking on Tygra in these stories, so at some point I ended up going 'stop being mean to him, fuck it he's mine now' and I don't know if you'd call it a proper crush but there you go.

Depends on several factors but usually it will be if a song is firmly attached to a story in my head, where the story is built on or around the song. PT.2

Eddie Munson x gn!Reader 

Warnings:weed, mentions of alcohol, hangovers, kissing, vomiting

Made for masc/gn readers but femmes/women may interact

Summary: after a long night of drinking and magic the gathering you let your new friend Eddie the freak Munson stay over at your house to nurse his hangover. What you didn't know is that this blossoming friendship could turn into something more in such a short time.

This is a sequel and final part of my mini series Tabletop Lovers

Early morning sunlight peeked through your curtains and landed on your face. With a huff you sat up, immediately regretting the decision. Memories came back to you, a slamming headache pounding them back into your brain. Drunk Magic with Eddie Munson, what an amazing idea. Grumbling, you went to stand up and get your hangover med kit. 

The only problem was, you were trapped. A long, pale arm draped over your waist and pulling you tighter to a bony chest. Looking next to you, you were met with the sight of a sleeping Eddie. His hair covering most of his features and fanned out around your pillows. He would most definitely need to brush it when he woke up. A small smile graced your lips when you heard his sleepy mumble from under the bird's nest on his head. 

"Mm what time is it babe?" Sleepy eyes cracked up and he looked over at you with a confused expression. 

You felt your face warm up as you replied to the half asleep man "Eds it's me, y/n" 

That sentence woke him up, his eyes widening and mouth falling open "y/n! Shit I'm sorry! I totally forgot" while trying to quickly climb out of the bed Eddie had wrapped his legs in the blankets and ended up falling backwards onto the floor. 

"Woah! Easy there man, hitting your head isn't going to help that hangover" 

"What?" Eddie whispered to himself, when suddenly a feeling of Ill washed over him. "oh shit" he ran quickly out of your bedroom and down the hall to the bathroom. From the thin walls you could hear Eddie being sick in the toilet. Sighing tiredly you walked over to your closet and pulled out your hangover kit, hoping to set up everything before your friend got back. 

It was a small cloth basket hidden in the back of the closet shelf. Inside was medicine for headaches, some vitamin powder to mix into drinks, comfortable socks, and a large blanket. Sneaking down to the living room you quickly set everything up. Grabbing a water bottle and a sports drink and putting those on the small table in front of the couch. The fluffy blanket draping over the arms and back of it with the soft socks on top. Finally you grabbed a few calmer movies to watch so as to not bother Eddie's head. 

Right on time he came stumbling down the stairs. Pale face with a green tint and deep black circles, hair even messier than it was when he woke up. He looked at you with a soft expression, a mix of pain and exhaustion apparent on his features. "Hey Ed, is your stomach feeling better?" You ask quietly, leading him to lay down on the couch. 

"Uh uh, head hurts" he mumbled at you weakly, pulling the blanket over his head. 

"I know, you partied a little too hard, but it's alright man. You can stay here to sober up, I already have my hangover kit out and was about to make us some food."

"Thanks" he groaned as he sat up and grabbed the vitamin water, taking a few sips before laying down once again. You moved the drinks a little closer to the couch on the floor, so he wouldn't have to move as much then made your way to the kitchen. 

Once there you grabbed the ingredients and tools needed to make some lightly toasted toast and a small amount of scrambled eggs. Not a lot of food but enough to fill you both up and let you keep it down. Piling the toast and eggs on a plate you tip-toe back to the living room. Finding your friend sprawled on the couch and watching thundercats quietly. Every once and a while taking a sip from his water or sports drink. "breakfast is ready Ed, it's pretty bare bones but it should hold you until you feel a little better" 

"Thanks again y/n, and sorry I called you babe this morning, and how drunk I got last night" a blush appeared on his cheeks as he sat up to eat. 

You could also feel your face getting warm "it's not a problem, we were having fun and our brains aren't always involved in fun" that got a loud laugh out of him. And the laugh earned a groan as he held his head and laid down once again. 

Patting his leg gently to have him lift them you slipped under his gangly legs to relax on the couch. Absentmindedly rubbing them as you two watched morning cartoons and nursed your pounding heads. That's how you two spent the rest of the morning, cuddled together, watching TV and getting to know each other. Eddie was funny and charming, but also awkward and silly a perfect mix in your eyes. 

As the hours crawled on you two felt a little better, but even so you still agreed to another "sleepover" with your new friend. Talking about ordering pizza, watching horror films and laying off the alcohol tonight. As the sun set and the streetlights came on you got to work. With you ordering the pizza and Eddie setting up the kitchen island for dinner. 

While the two of you waited you put in Hellraiser. Both of you amazed and horrified at the effects and characters. Eddie talked about wanting to base some outfits off the cenobites, which got you two to talking about if the outfits would be functional as well as fashionable or just a disaster. As the conversation became more of a weak slap fight with a round of giggles between the two of you the doorbell rang. 

Eddie immediately jumped up, shouting something about "it's the least I can do! You sit right here!" Barreling down the hall towards the door. A shocked laugh left your throat at the boy's theatrics, seeing as how he was couch ridden all day. By the time you stood up and peeked around the corner Eddie was already waving the pizza delivery boy goodbye and telling him to drive safe. Eddie flashed a smile at you and cocked his head towards the kitchen. "let's get this party started y/n!" 

After grabbing a few paper plates and placing them next to the warm boxes you sat in the chair directly beside Eddie. He was practically jumping in excitement at in his words "an actual fucking meal in the last 24 hours" making you chuckle. For a while you sat in silence and ate, that was until the brown eyed boy turned towards you. 

You could feel the air change, it now being heavy and the small distance between you and your friend suddenly much more obvious. "y/n, I just want to say thank you like actually thank you for an amazing last two days. You're like mega cool and really nice and and '' the boy barely took a breath between words, instead choosing to ramble on. This was your moment, you could feel it. 

Finally you broke the distance between you two and placed your lips on his. He tasted like pizza and you could still taste a small amount of the sports drink on his tongue. As quick as it happened, it ended. Eddie pulled away and was breathing hard, shock written across his face. "y/n?" He asked breathlessly

"There's your prize for winning the game last night, and for making my weekend Eds" you reply, looking at him with a small smile. 

"That was woah wow I that was great" a smile cracked his features as he looked back at you with big eyes and flushed cheeks. 

"Wanna do it again?" 

"Fuck yes I do!" Eddie's lips met yours once again, this time much messier and rougher. Teeth against teeth and his tongue trying to push its way inside. His hands flew around your body, almost like he didn't know where they should go. You giggled against his mouth and pushed him back a little. 

"How about we take this back to the couch, Eds? It'll be a little more comfortable there" and like an excited puppy he immediately jumped up and flew over the back of the couch to sink into the soft fabric. You followed closely behind, albeit a bit slower and more graceful than the metalhead. But once you were in arms distance he grabbed around your waist and pulled you into him. 

He kissed over your face, neck and cheeks until he finally placed one last big kiss on your lips. You couldn't help the joyful giggle that left your throat. "We should do this every weekend" he huffed 

"Yeah" Eddie nodded at you and started kissing down your neck again, smiling against your warm skin. That's how the two of you spent the rest of the evening, tangled together and kissing each other lovingly. 

Even though the next morning you were both stiff from the cramped sleeping position you didn't care. You were just happy to be in the arms of one of the most beautiful men you've ever seen.

I was complaining about how they just couldn't help themselves. Okay, the show has to work on a budget so they had to simplify Kojima's incredibly detailed designes. They did it with Hector (pretty well), Dracula (mediocrely) and Alucard (beyond poorly). That's fair. But no, they just have to say "well, it's an adaptation, they don't have to be 1:1, the games are silly and the show is serious huehuehue 🤪"

They ask "why should the adaptation be the same as the games?"

I ask "why does the adaptation have to change perfectly fine elements?"

They didn't even do a coherent job! You go from Alucard, Hector and Maria who are nearly identical to their game counterpart, to Isaac, Annette and Carmilla who are basically OCs! It doesn't even make sense for Hector and Maria to look like that in the show, Hector is not a fighter and Maria bleating revolutionary slogans while looking like a noblewoman is silly! And as Spinning and I said, the show forgot to be "serious" with BDSM Vampire and Sun Thundercat!

I'm not asking for a fucking pixel animation, I'm asking to use some logic and be a little more respectful.

Fae Watches Thundercats 2011

(adapted from my twitter thread because twitter is dying, bear with me while I feel out the formatting)

Hi!  I recently revisited Thundercats 2011, and got super into it!  So, I'm gonna go through it again and livetweet it this time, going into probably way too much detail about my thoughts.  So if that's something you're interested in, you can follow along live on twitter as long as twitter is still there, but also the tumblr edition will be tagged #fae watches thundercats!

My current plan is to watch one episode a week on Tuesday nights, adding to my twitter thread as I go, and then compiling and adapting each episode's commentary into larger posts on here after the fact. We'll see how that works out.

Before we start, full disclosure: I rewatched 2011 because I started watching some of the 80s show with friends.  To be frank, 2011 is the version I really like while 80s is mostly a curiosity, so that's the perspective I'm coming from in the rare times I'll compare the two.

And it will be rare.  I'm not here to compare anything, I'm here to gush about a show I like as its own thing.  But there will be a handful of occasions in the next 26 weeks where I'll have something interesting to say about the different versions.

Poor Snarf has anxiety.

Rescuing someone from a bully is a classic establishing character moment for a hero, and for good reason. What our main character says here is a perfect establishing line for him because to me, this compassion is the core of his character. There's, uh, some ups and downs later on, but I'll make my case as we go.

And of course, as soon as he gets their attention, they leave the other poor soul alone. And he can kick their asses. Action scenes are hard to screencap, so I skim over a lot of them, but if there is something interesting that happens I will talk about it.

It's good to have a sturdy team mascot around.

It's also good to have someone who followed you out of the palace backing you up.

🎼 - It tends to change around mostly, but as of late it's been Cracker Island ft. Thundercat by Gorillaz! Always be a huge Gorillaz fan

⚠️ - I'm not really that cautious! As long as you're respectful of my characters, I do love to RP around! I know generally what to look out for in people I don't want to interact with. I know I joke about being playfully disrespectful to my OCs but I know anyone who worried about if they are doing that wouldn't be so on purpose! If that makes sense.

🎧 - I! Try to! I'm VERY bad about remembering music but I've been trying my best to build some. My personal favorite is one my partner showed me, and it's very much "Syla during Endwalker" vibes.
