[3] What's your favorite line of narration?
She watches his retreating back and her stomach swoops with the sureness of a kiss that never comes.
The tenses in this fic are all over the place (on purpose!) and I really like how they work here. This fic is accidentally a 5+1 and each individual scene before the big kiss has to end in disappointment, and it's tough to do that without it becoming receptive. So I like the building anticipation in this line that turns in the middle to be like "lol PSYCH!" It's a very fanfictiony line as well too, because the emotional hit of it depends on knowledge of canon.
[15] What did you learn from writing this fic?
That I extremely struggle with writing PURE fluff.
[6] What makes this fic special or different from all your other fics?
The pairings!! I've never written f/f before, never written rarepairs before.
[10] Why did you choose this pairing for this particular story?
I knew I wanted some kind of ghost of Parvati/Lavender. It was inspired by this phenomenon I think a lot of women my age have gone through in their teens/20s, where you're so deeply closeted that you completely misinterpret a romantic or sexually charged connection with your best friend as... regular BFF vibes! gal pals! So Parvati is clearly in love with her while also sort of holding these new realizations about herself close to her chest and hiding it from Lavender. For that potential exploration I wanted a "safe" kind of pairing and ended up choosing Demelza. Around the same age, same house, a blank slate character I can kind of mold to whatever I want. I have such a soft spot for Quidditch lesbians!
[11] What do you like best about this fic?
If my goal in writing fic is to leverage canon to "write around" the point I'm trying to get at and let the subtext fill it in, I think I've done it best with this one. I'm really really proud of it.
[1] What inspired you to write the fic this way?
Sometimes when I use prompts for a story things gel together in my mind in a way I... do not fully understand lol. I know from early on I had this visual of a triptych with a larger middle panel and "wings" on either side. So there is this regular kind of story about a normal person doing normal mid-30s, directionless sort of things in the middle of a war that is suppressing it even more. Then you're bookended by the two most important figures in that war and their relationship with her family business.
[2] What scene did you first put down?
The first scene with bb Tom came out really easily. I realized the beginning of his second year at Hogwarts coincided exactly with the mass evacuation of children from London for fear of air raids in WWII, most of that came out in an evening!

If my mom sees a significant amount of blood she gets lightheaded, and has fainted on some occasions. Once it happened when we were kids, I wasn't there to witness it but I heard the story from my dad. Basically my brothers, around 7 or 8 at the time, were playing outside while my mom was making their lunch, and she accidentally cut her finger. It wasn't anything serious, but it drew a fair bit of blood and she passed out. My dad saw this and rushed over, but he didn't really know what to do so he just sort of started slapping her to wake her up (not recommended, but he had no idea and panicked)
At that exact moment my brothers both came in from playing, and all they saw was our mom unconscious on the floor and our dad slapping her. So, like, without even saying a word to each other they both just INSTANTLY start whaling on him, like, full blown attack mode to defend our mom. Which obviously didn't help the situation, but she did wake up and everything was fine.
Now our dad says that he's actually really glad they attacked him over what they thought was going on, because it means he raised good boys. And I still think that's true, they're very good boys.

aaron bushnell knew exactly what he was doing. he states his intentions with total lucidity and sense of purpose. he knows what he's about to do is extreme--he says so. he speaks calmly, but he's clearly terrified. he takes a deep breath after pouring the accelerant over himself. he has to psyche himself up to light the flame. he struggles with the lighter. he says "free palestine" normally once before he starts to scream it. even through his agony he manages to say it one last time before he stops being able to speak at all. this is a man with total conviction. he wanted to help people, in any way possible. this action was a moral one, and any news outlet painting this as simply a mental health issue is a disservice to his memory. he knew what he was doing when he burned himself in uniform. he knew that there was a chance that sacrificing his own life could go on to save many others. this was the ultimate act of selflessness, and it should be treated as such. may he rest in peace.
