Everyone seems to be jumping on this shitting on the writing of Good Omens 2 band wagon and I just...don't see it?
I mean I am a person who values my own opinion and taste, (knowing its definitely not for everyone, I have some acquired weirdness), I'm no scholar but I think I have a fair amount of media literacy, I've been to a few classes and in some advanced creative writing when I was in high school and I've just ya know, read a lot of books and a lot of books about writing so like...
Idk maybe I need to go back and watch it again with a more critical eye and less of a fanatical eye, but I've read Good Omens many times, and I've watched the first season many times, and to me S2 seemed to be pretty on-par with the quality of writing we've seen so far, nothing jumped out at me as low quality?
Its just a different kind of story, the stakes weren't as high, we're starting literally in the middle (you can see that without anyone having to tell us) and the expectations being built up of how close Crowley and Aziraphale have become in comparison to Gabriel and Beelzebub and Nina and Maggie, and maybe the subversion of 'oop they're actually getting split up' was maybe obvious, but wasn't it supposed to be? Isn't that what the bridge season 2 is supposed to be, leading to how they start the true sequel split up?
Sure it was very fanservice-y but that's because its...truly for the fans, I don't see anything wrong with that.
I think a lot of you guys aren't remembering that Good Omens was always a book built around two buddies sending each other bits and pieces of a story through a floppy disk in the mail with the express goal of making the other ring them on the phone to laugh until they cried.
Good Omens has always been pretty cheesy and punny and goofy and playing off 'wow being human is weird, lets put a lens on that' with a great dash of wit and sarcasm and affection in there, sure some bits are pretty exciting but that's just the bookends of all the lovely nonsense, but well crafted nonsense, like a fairy tale almost.
I'm not trying to start a flame war or anything (though I'm not anyone I doubt anyone will care), but I've seen a lot of posts mocking fans who enjoyed the second season and making fun of fans sending Neil Gaiman asks being all excited and just calling him and everyone who worked on it a shitty writer and idk it really brought down the party for me, seems a really...interesting take when there's a writers strike going on but idk I don't see why people have to be so mean and callous about our silly religion fanfiction show but that's probably expecting too much out of the internet.
That's not to say I'm gonna sit here and say you have to like it and think its perfect because that's silly, its not perfect, everyone has different tastes, and of course its okay to make jokes about writing goofs, people have been making fun of Good Omens in the Good Omens fandom since its publish date.
I just genuinely don't see the quality dip, it seems like the same Gaiman Pratchett-y Goodness I've known, just new and more of it, with more modern jokes.
If anyone wants to have some friendly discourse I might not always reply to this thread but my asks should be open I just wanna understand where everyone is coming from, if anyone has some insight on the consensus that its 'bad writing.'

TomShiv is tied together by selfishness AND love, hence the phone call scene in the very last episode… and that heartbreak has been a thing at all with those two. It’s too simplistic for it to be either or…also stop tagging TomShiv content for the sake of being contrast fodder for a ship that isn’t a thing. Like I’m all for this sort of stuff, but y’all know what you’re doing at this point. Come on
You think that my interpretation of Tomshiv is too simplistic, but I think that reduce a relationship between two people as either romantic or not is actually way more simplistic and, honestly, boring af.
If you take a look at my Tumblr you'll find that I'm a huge fan of Tom and Shiv. I have explained over and over that, while I don't believe them to be 'in love' per se, I think they're deeply emotionally attached to each other and that this bond is even stronger than romantic love. And now that the delusion of love is out of window, they can finally make their marriage work.
And, as a human being, I contain multitudes so I can love both Tomshiv and Tomgreg and, thankfully, Jessie Armstrong agree with me and that's what happened in the series finale.
And I don't understand. Why shouldn't I tag Tomshiv when I'm just expressing my opinion on a relationship that I love?
Tumblr media
Please let me know if I've misinterpreted anything because English is not my language so it's possible I for something wrong 🤷‍♀️

My very minor pet peeve across many bleach fics is this widely-agreed-upon notion that supposedly everyone loves Ichigo -- in shipfic, this is usually given for either extra angst purposes that the LI is not going to measure up, or for possessiveness/jealousy tropes. But like... who's everyone? Genuinely, who are you guys all referring to? Not counting Rukia (because 2nd protagonist) and his sisters (because family), who I think are arguably the strongest canonical proper bonds. Everyone else just seems to vaguely tolerate him.
For a wide definition I'm going to measure 'like' as 'seeks him out for something they can get from him (this is a wide definition to include basic things like 'friendship' and 'companionship' and 'fighting' as a valid thing to get) rather than something they can get from him'. Using that, the only shinigami who do so are Kenpachi (and even he still gets the battle he wants from another, better for him, source) and Byakuya. Renji is grateful to him but mostly for getting him back close with Rukia, not because of Ichigo himself. Ichigo, for his part, calls a lot of the others by first name and they just seem annoyed. Urahara seems to be there emotionally but it's definitely not above his own self-serving interests. Yoruichi treats him like the kid she has to babysit. Orihime is in love with a version that only exists in her head. Chad is utterly incomprehensible in his choices. Uryuu is complicated, and I'll count him, but he's also arguably the one character the narrative always treats as chivalrous & anything else would ruin that. His human friends do, but he's mostly in avoidance mode with them.
The only other characters I can think of who are gunning for Ichigo personally in some way are Nel, Grimmjow, Ulquiorra, and Riruka.
So, in a cast this huge, we're left with 3 shinigami, 3 arrancar (2 of which actively hostile but in a personal way), and a fullbringer who felt bad and changed sides in general. All side characters. Not a single person from the core group! If this is what being liked means, I'd hate to see what the people who are DISliked are treated like, LOL.

I have a genuine question which Google has failed to answer satisfactorily, so I'm asking here
Why is the IDOF called that and not like...'the Israeli Military'? Like okay fine Israel wants to call it the IDF to make it seem less aggressive, but. We're all agreed that that is in fact bullshit and are calling it the IOF, but imo that's still giving it the benefit of a veneer of Not A Real Military. Which it is. It gives (to me anyway) the Israeli government an unspoken layer of separation from the actions of it's military. This is not a small militia!
'today the IOF killed X number of unarmed civilians' vs 'today Israel's state military killed X number of unarmed civilians'

things from the Undertale fandom I never understood
Literally any AU Sans relationship with ship kids always had a boy.
Never a girl ship kid
All the popular ship kids are guys
I cannot name one girl ship kid from a AU Sans ship

Went into a retake exam expecting to fail it and it was... almost the same exam as the first round? The first round was brutal but we've had three weeks to puzzle it out since so this went way smoother. Did they do it on purpose?? What????

How the fuck do I grow and expand my count on Tumblr. This is kinda a rhetorical question kinda not but I really don't know fully how Tumblr works if you want to be an artist.
The best way I've see to do it is either focus you're page on one fandom, be skilled enough that your own art pieces are enough to make you expand or keep doing art for the new thing that's trending
And with someone who has autism (and most likely ADHD but it hasn't be diagnosed yet)and fucked up school hours, it makes it difficult for me to make bigger and nicer digital pieces.
Another thing is, I don't know how to get that pleasing but also beautiful looking art style. I work on Coral painter so I find it a lot harder to achieve what others can in procreate or other programmes that Ipad (or similar tablets) get.
If anyone knows any good videos who give up to date art advice for Coral (the stuff I was talking about) I would be really grateful
But with my autism, I tend to get obsessed with something and certain things don't last long, maybe a few days and it's gone. So I have a harder time making bigger art pieces for certain fandoms even though I really want to. The autism thing is a bit more complicated but I don't want to drag this out
I'm honestly just frustrated and confused because I'm not sure exactly what to do but I want to expand my art and one day hopefully take commissions
