The good thing about reading books with slightly annoying plot twists is that it saves you from reading too late into the night.
"What? His parents show up at this exact moment of all times? Goddammit, I can't deal with this right now. I should sleep and continue tomorrow."
The narrator: "She should have slept an hour ago anyway."

The Disability Library
I love books, I love literature, and I love this blog, but it's only been recently that I've really been given the option to explore disabled literature, and I hate that. When I was a kid, all I wanted was to be able to read about characters like me, and now as an adult, all I want is to be able to read a book that takes us seriously.
And so, friends, Romans, countrymen, I present, a special disability and chronic illness booklist, compiled by myself and through the contributions of wonderful members from this site!
As always, if there are any at all that you want me to add, please just say. I'm always looking for more!
Edit 20/10/2023: You can now suggest books using the google form at the bottom!

Netflix cancels Shadow and Bone
Tumblr media
Leigh Bardugo posted on her Instagram earlier today to announce that there will be no Shadow and Bone s3 or Six of Crows spinoff.
She says:
Friends, by now you've probably heard that there will be no season 3 for Shadow and Bone and no Six of Crows spinoff. The news hit me hard. I'm heartbroken and deeply disappointed, but I'm also trying to hold onto my very real gratitude. Most authors never get to see their work adapted. Many who do end up regretting the experience. I'm one of the lucky few who can look at an adaptation with pride and tremendous joy. I am so grateful to our writers, our crew, and our extraordinary cast who are not just wildly talented, but genuinely good people. Most of all I want to say how grateful I am to the folks reading this—whether you found your way to the books first or discovered them through the show. The Grishaverse is a better place because of you and I am so thankful for every tweet, post, comment, review, artwork, fic, tattoo, and cosplay that helped to make all of this possible. We're book people and that means we never stop imagining that magic can be made real. You are proof of that. Now, I'm going to go have a cry, and maybe a drink, and then see where the story takes us next.
No mourners,
Leigh

"I- I told you, I don't do one-night stands," he desperately argued.
"I told you I did, and you still agreed," you tilted your head.
He sighed.
"Calm down baby girl-"
"Could you please stop calling me that?!" he whispered-yelled, looking around to make sure no one heard you.
"Why?" You were still looking through the bookstands.
"I don't like nicknames as it is, especially not that one,"
"Oh," you stopped, "I wasn't replacing your name with anything, Ethan, I'm just pointing out one of your many characteristics," you turned to him, eyes finally on him.
He readjusted his backpack nervously, avoiding the powerful gaze.
"What? You're seriously gonna stand here and straight-up lie to yourself and say you're not baby girl?"
He adorably blushed from the apple to his cheeks, to his ears, reaching all the way down to his neck, "That's-" he tried to snap out of it, "That's not the point,"
"You were the one who brought it up," you shrugged resuming your search, "Besides, you can barely call that a one-night stand,"
"What would you call it then?"
"A... consensual exchange of pleasure between two very stressed students,"
"That's a very long way of saying you-" he clenched his jaw.
"I... what? Sucked you off? You're right, although I gotta thank you for that, I'm so much better and mouthfuls now," you winked at him, "Great stamina by the way," you hit his shoulder.
"Listen," he placed himself in front of you, "I know you don't give a shit, but I do,"
You took a deep breath.
"It was a big deal to me,"
You couldn't help but slightly cringe, but gave him a chance anyway, he looked so desperate you almost felt bad for him, "I ask again, why?"
"Because," he cleared his throat, "It was the first time that's ever happened to me," he confessed, his tone barely above a whisper.
You were taken aback, "Bullshit!"
Someone from a few rows back let out a loud 'Shh'
He apologized before looking back at you with comical confusion, "What do you mean bullshit?"
"It means you're a fucking liar,"
"Why would I lie about that?"
"I- I-" you shook your head, "I don't know, but I just- I don't believe you,"
"I don't know whether to feel flattered or offended," he let out.
"There's just no damn way you're a virgin,"
"What-" he scratched his head, "What makes you say that?" he put his hand in his pockets while pursing his lips.
"Uh," you were still shocked, "Your- your face, for one," you gestured, "Puppy eyes, fleshy lips," you kept thinking, "For fucks sake, Ethan, you're a swimmer!" you kept moving your hands, "I've seen you in a fucking speedo, water dripping, you're a 6 foot something muscular eye candy!" you laughed in disbelief, "You're sweet, you're super freakishly smart, you've read, Jane Austen, Agatha Christi, and Leigh fucking Bardugo; sure, you're Starwars fan and you know way too much about Mike Flanagan, but come on! Anyone and I really mean, anyone would gladly overlook that," you tried to recover your breath, "So yeah, I'm sorry for not beliving you about being a virgin,"
He furrowed his brows, "When did you see me in my speedo?"
"That's the part you're focused on after I ranted about how great of a fucking catch you are?" You widened your eyes, "You're unbelievable, I meant that both as a good and a bad thing," you pushed him out of your way, "And to answer your question, I walked a friend who's on the female swim team to her practice yesterday, I'm not a fucking stalker for Christ's sake," you clarified, "And the rest of information you told me yourself,"
You referred to two nights ago when Chad threw his birthday party, he actually introduced the two of you that same night, he thought complaining about schoolwork was enough to make a good match.
You sat on top of one of the tables, "Look, I'm sorry for... seducing you if you will, and then leaving without a trace," you couldn't completely hide the fakness.
He looked down, "Thank you, for the apology and confidence boost,"
You chuckled, "I meant all of it,"
He nodded trying to hide his very strong flush.
You scanned the boy infront of you, a part of you didn't wish to see him after the 'incident' let alone talk to him, but if you had to be honest with yourself, you were more than glad to have him chasing you around campus all day trying to find even a speck of courage to walk up to you. There was a slight moment of excitment in your eyes, as you noticed he was struggling with himself wether to stay or not, he made his choice by resignating to place his bag on the table next to the one you chose, you knew what he was doing, trying to make it seem as he planned all along to work here and 'conincidentally' run into you. You made your choice as well, by getting up and snatching the notebook out of his hands.
"Obviously you have fucking good hand-writing," you scoffed leafing through it, "And is that-" your eyes squinted, "Fountain pen?"
"Y-yeah," he aswered.
"Of course it is," you pulled out a chair to continue your observation in a more comfortably postition.
Ethan didn't know you that well, but he sure as hell wasn't going to try and take something from you, so he just proceeded to grab another set of things for another homework. You on the other hand, wasted no time in reaching the very end of the pages, where the good stuff was, the free space whre everyone draws terrible sketches, writes pending tasks or random thoughts in any way shape or form; and yet it seemed he didn't have anything, just purely white paper. You rolled your eyes, there had to be more to him, something to make him more interesting that the perfect and sweet guy you gave a blowie to, something that could justify why you wanted to fuck him so badly right now, the urge had to be justified with something else than the cutest nerd you'd ever seen, but he didn't seem to help you.
In a breef moment of boredom, you wondered about his intentions, more specifically why he wanted to talk to you in te first place, what would he win out of an apology or simply a glimpse of regret? Did he regret it? Maybe. Perhaps he didn't regret what happened (clearly not by the way he was moaning so loud you were sure the entire crowd heard him), perhaps he just regreted there was no chance it could happen again.
"Ethan," you said softly, eyes filled with intention, feline almost.
"What?" he turned to you.
"I know you're not here to make me feel bad," you reached the cover of his book and slowly closed it, purposely making your bodies closer, to which you heard his breath hitched, "Would you like to walk me back to my apartment?"
He gulped, "Aren't- aren't your roommates there?"
"On a friday night?" You asked rhetorically, "What a silly question for such a smart little brain,"
.
.
.
Lmk if I should do a part two, I just don't know how to continue it so if you have any ideas pls send them it would really help a lot

(warning: literary analysis ahead) i know i'm not the first person by far to say this, but there are so many similarities between kaz and wylan in six of crows and ESPECIALLY crooked kingdom.
there's obviously the big one of both of them having a re-birth type experience in the harbor, but that's not where the similarity stops. during my ck reread, i noticed that the reason kaz and wylan are in the harbor in the first place is because a father-like figure.
pekka rollins was a father-like figure to both kaz and jordie, and the book says this. the rietveld boys had just lost their father, and one of the big reasons pekka was able to scam jordie and kaz so well is because he provided them with a comforting and parental like space. kaz ofc eventually ends up in the harbor, and it can all be traced back to pekka rollins.
wylan has his rebirth in the harbor due to his father. the connection is more direct with his, but even then there are middle men and other things involved. but again, it can all be traced back to his father.
going off this thought, they both lost a close family member due to a father figure.
another big similarity i found that i feel like i haven't seen anyone talk about his what kaz and wylan are both motivated by: revenge.
wylan does not start off the books being motivated by revenge. he ends up in the barrel and with the crows out of a desperation to both hide from his father and because he genuinely has no where else to go. later on in ck, after wylan finds his mother at saint hilde, the book very clearly states that his motivation changes. at the begining of chapter 31, there's a scene where wylan is staring at himself in the mirror. there are lines that say, "What am I doing here? But he knew the answer. Only he could see his father punished for what he'd done. Only he could see his mother freed." which drives me INSANE!! because it's a DIRECT PARELLEL to things kaz says/feels about jordie!! in the chapter right before that (30) there's a line that says, "He'd found his way to shore, devoted himself to the vengeance he and his brother were owed." (there are other and better lines that reference wylan's "only he could *take revenge*" line, but this is just the closest one that comes to mind)
there are differences between their motives—you could say that kaz's revenge motive is more direct and violent—but there's also the fact that we see both kaz and wylan get their revenge in the book.
both kaz and wylan want revenge for one of their family members, and themselves, from what a father figure in their life has done.
they've also both been kidnapped by jan/held in captivity by him. i know this happens to inej too, but i think it's important that one of the first scenes we see with kaz is him negotiating with jan after being captured by him, and then towards the very end of the series, we (very simplified and on the surface) see the same thing happening to wylan. i know the two jan captivity scenes with kaz and wylan are very different, but i think the basic similarity of these scenes really attest to how far wylan has come and how much he's been assimilated into the crows.
there's also of course the part where wylan's expression is said to be something that looks kaz-like, which i feel also shows how far he's come and how he's truely developed into a crow.
in conclusion, as others have said, they truely are two sides of the same coin. they're so different but so alike, and i absolutely love how leigh bardugo was able to directly juxstapose wylan and kaz when they're so different on the surface.

It's me trying to convince y'all to get invested in the Sword Catcher, read it all cause I tried!
1) I need someone to talk about it + see your theories/memes/edits, I NEED MY FRIENDS IN THIS FANDOM okay?!
2) listen, we have to wait about 2 years before The Wicked Powers, let's try to distract ourselves with something exciting!!
Tumblr media
Reviews from George Martin (my beloved, listen, this man knows a good fantasy book when he sees one, trust him), Holly Black and Leigh Bardugo
Tumblr media
Synopsis (read the full detailed version here):
In the vibrant city-state of Castellane, a young orphan named Kel is stolen from his old life to enter a new one of luxury and peril. He’s to become Prince Conor Aurelian’s body-double, shielding the Prince from all dangers. As his ‘Sword Catcher,’ he and Conor become close as brothers – yet Kel lives for one purpose: to die for Conor.
Lin Caster is an Ashkar physician, part of a community ostracised for its rare magical abilities. But events pull her and Kel together and into the web of the mysterious Ragpicker King who rules Castellane’s criminal underworld.
Together, they’ll discover an extraordinary conspiracy. But can forbidden love bring down a kingdom? And will their discoveries plunge their nation into war and the world into chaos?
Here, a boy lives to protect his Prince with his life. A girl is destined to return lost magic to the world. A Prince must choose between his heart and his duty. And thrumming beneath it all, the heartbeat of a city unlike any other. Welcome to Castellane.
Known characters: (from top to bottom, from left to right, please appreciate the wonderful arts below)
Kellian Saren - our protagonist~ was kidnapped from his family when he was 5 and brought to the palace in order to be the Sword Catcher, the body double for the Crown Prince(🏳️‍🌈?). Used to have a crush on Antonetta, now too busy spending time with Prince Conor (🏳️‍🌈?). Big spoon energy
YOU'LL SAY: Rina... bestie he looks exactly like the second guy a bit lower, why so many Will Herondale cosplayers🤨 YES YES, THAT'S THE POINT, THEY HAVE TO LOOK ALIKE, IT'S LIKE Keira Knightley and Natalie Portman in Star Wars
Lin Caster - female protagonist, doctor, is skilled in healing magic (Catarina & Clary's daughter🤨?). There is a prophecy surrounding her, that says a very powerful goddess would return one day and it would be one of the girls from her community, ~possibly her~
Antonetta Alleyne - Heir to the wealthy silk charter, her mother dotes on her, dressing her in lace and grooming her to marry Prince Conor (the next guy). Her, Kel and Conor used to have this gang😎 when they were kids, but then her mother decided to turn her into a Kendall Jenner and now she's 💅🏻not like other girls💅🏻 and makes this ew sound everytime our protagonist walks by (secretly feels something else towards him....I guess?...)
Conor Aurelian - our Prince🤴🏻definition of: So you're a tough guy, Like it really rough guy, Just can't get enough guy, Chest always so puffed guy. What else? Oh, everyone tries to kill him and he hides behind his boyfriend's back. Little spoon energy
Joss Falconet - some lazy whore, idk. He has been friends with Conor and Kel since they were all small children. He loves parties, a good time, and ridiculous exploits, but there may be rather more to him…Matthew Fairchild core?👀✨ maybe....
The Ragpicker King - he's so 😋😩🤤he lives his dark emo girl aesthetic life. Doesn’t have a name or real identity. He lives in a big black mansion in the middle of Castellane and runs the crime scene. My future husband btw
Merren Asper - part-time student, full-time poisoner, and hopeless romantic. Merren has a dreamy, cheerful personality, despite being a poisoner. Well good for him, god bless🌿 he seems like a mixture of Kit Herondale and Wylan Van Eck

I'm going to update this post in case Cassie shares some new information!
The first book comes out on October 10 THIS YEAR so~ you can pre-order🌟✨for example, I can't so I'll just wait till someone sends it to me once it's out.
I REALLY hope I managed to get you slightly invested. It seems like a really nice fantasy series and I'd like to support Cassie's new work. She gave us our beloved TSC world and I have a strong faith in her. I know it's hard to dive into a new series but let's give it a chance!

“I believe that the people who are the most dangerous are not the people who enter your life wearing a sign saying "I'm a bad guy", and they're not the people who are missing a nose like Voldemort. They're the people who are charming and manipulative and also probably carrying their own wounds, their own baggage. They can be brooding and beautiful and be monstrous. That's what I was setting out to show with the Darkling."
I wonder if Leigh Bardugo realizes that she effectively did put an "I'm the bad guy" sign on the Darkling by heavily coding him as a villain from his first introduction. When I look at his portrayal in Shadow and Bone, his beauty is described many times but has little impact on individuals outside of Alina (and even Alina isn't that swayed by it). So what is he? He’s certainly not a wolf in sheep’s clothing, because the reader can clearly tell that he’s a wolf, so what does that leave us with? A pretty wolf?
His name being "The Darkling", dressed in all black, uses shadow magic, shrouded in rumors, if that isn't an "I'm a bad guy" sign then I don't know what is. She clearly understands that the nature of actual abusive people is nuanced and isn't always obvious to the average person and she articulates that thought well. So that makes it even more baffling that she sees the Darkling as a subversion of that obviously abusive figure when his depiction is so clumsy.
On one hand, she wants to create a villain that embodies abusive characteristics that one might encounter in real life. She wants to say "Sometimes you can't tell right away" and illustrate the way people can fall victim to abusive situations. On the other hand, she can't help but write the Darkling as overtly sympathetic, flesh out his motives, and give him a legitimate reason to do what he does. In doing so, she slacks off on her abuse narrative and opts to make the Darkling's more noble and sympathetic qualities outweigh the scant evidence of that abuse narrative. This is why she has the Darkling commit illogical acts of violence that don't align with his previously established strategies. She needs a grand show of villainy to make up for her failure to convey the subtlety of what she had originally intended.

December 17,2019
You are now 18.Finally.You don't remember how much you waited to be an adult, losing every touch with your parents. You wanted to be an independent woman and you finally are. So,you decided to take a trip to Busan, where your favorite bookshop was.
You stand in front of the entrance, scanning the small subway to see an empty seat.Sitting down, you look at your surroundings, trying to see any familiar face, which you thank you don't.
Next to you was a man your age, silently reading a book.Looking at the cover longer than you've realized, you see the man staring now at you,his eyes wide.
"Is that 'Six of crows' by Leigh Bardugo?",you can't help but let the words out of your mouth.Realizing, you turn away from his gaze, muttering a low 'sorry'.
"You read her books too?".A faint chuckle comes out of his mouth that makes your cheeks go red.You turn to face him, your hands quickly opening your bag to show him your book. And so,you two talked, even stopped at the bookshop together. The unusual comfort you feel while talking to him fills your stomach with butterflies and grows your ears red.
Park Jongseong is his name but his English name is Jay. His favorite color is green and he likes fashion and cooking, just like you.He enjoys autumn and reading as much as you do. He’s allergic to cats—which is a shame considering the amount of cat hair over your clothes and bag that you discreetly try to brush off while he's explaining to you how much he hates mint chocolate ice cream.
You were always one to never believe in soulmates, or finding someone that perfectly fit next to you, like the final piece to your complicated puzzle. But with him,you finally believed in love at the first sight.
Eventually, those little dates and talking sessions turned into a night where he finally asked you to be his girlfriend,to which you said yes.
Tumblr media
November 14,2023
And just like every other couple, you had your small arguments, even for the stupidest reasons. The usual reason for your fights was the fact that he puts his work above you.But each time you tried to argue with him,he kissed you,the events ending with you stripping each other's clothes, either making love or just him taking his anger out on your body.
Even now,you feel like starting an argument since your boyfriend isn't home, celebrating your anniversary with you.You prepared the dinner, dressed up,but he didn't bother to show up,probably buried deep in his work.
Walking over to the couch, you open the TV in an attempt to kill the silence in your house, and kill your bad mood. But to your surprise, the bad mood didn't want to leave as you watched the scene playing on the screen.
"Right now we'll send the correspondence to our newest reporter,Park Jongseong."The lady on the screen talked as the camera moved to another place, showing your boyfriend's lovely face, doing his beloved job.
"Of course."
Throwing the remote on the couch, you walk back to the table and place the stuff back to their place, changing into normal clothes.
Tumblr media
Your body jolts when you hear the front door opening, revealing Jay placing his coat on the hanger and taking out his shoes.
"Where have you been?"
"Work."
Work.Of course.
Your mind wanders, and you can't help but ask him every question that goes through your mind."Why didn't you check your phone?Have you been drinking? You smell like alcohol."
"Oh my fucking god ___,can you fucking stop?"He rushes past you, walking straight to the fridge to get himself a bottle of water, trying to sober himself up.You stood there, feeling your throat itch so you closed your eyes for a brief moment, trying to stop yourself from crying.
You make your way to the kitchen, parting your lips to apologize only for him to interrupt you again."Don't bother,I'm too tired to keep up with you."You close your mouth and walk closer to him, placing a hand on his shoulder, which he quickly pushes away, muttering a long 'can you stop being annoying?'.
"I guess I wasn't that annoying in bed last night, right?"
"Yeah, because your mouth wasn't bitching like it is now."He has the audacity to laugh at your shocked face, and you gasp at his use of words.
"What is your problem? Why are you being such an asshole?".He scoffs, his voice echoing in your head as he speaks.
"Well if I'm 'such an asshole'",he rambles on with finger quotes "then that makes you a needy bitch, huh?"
You stare at him for some solid minutes, complete silence taking over the kitchen as you slowly walk away from him, turning to your room."Fine, then I guess I won't be your problem anymore."
With your voice cracking, you make your way to your room.Once he notices your voice changing,he sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose with his fingers.
Tumblr media
He quietly enters the bedroom a while later, changing his work clothes and slipping in the covers, attempting to put his arm around your waist, but you simply drag your arm back, grabbing a pillow and a spare sheet to sleep on the couch.
“Where are you going?” He whispers groggily.
"The couch".Your tone is cold and stern, and you pray your voice won't break down in the middle of your sentence.
And that's all it took him for his heart to break. He gets out of the bed, wrapping his fingers around your wrist when you reach the door, but you only shake his hand away, walking further. He exhales through his nose and walks after you but his lips part in shock when he sees the event in front of him.Your body sitting on a chair at the dining table, your head hung low as you sobbed uncontrollably, broken whimpers escaping your mouth.
"Baby,no,please."
He crouched down, burying his face in your knees as he took your hands in his, making you sob harder.
"I don't want to do this anymore."Raising his head from your knees,he shakes his head, quickly disagreeing with you and you only nod,too tired to even argue with him.He lets go of your hands and you both get up,his body towering over yours.
You bring your hand to wipe your salty tears as you turn, your back now facing him."Do you know that today is our anniversary? And that I dressed up and made dinner only for you to come home and treat me like shit?"You quickly turn back, your bloodshot red eyes facing him and you see his eyes widen, the realization hitting him.
"Fuck,it is today?Baby,I'm so sorry."
"Don't bother."
When you turn your heel to leave he grabs your waist, pulling you in his chest while you hit him repeatedly, broken sounds coming from your lips.Your body hurt, feeling yourself fall to your knees in his arms.
"I don't want to do this anymore",you say while raising your head from his shoulder, meeting his soft eyes while looking down to his quivering lip.
A hand comes to touch your face, cupping your cheek as the pad of his finger wipes away the tears that are now cascading down. His soft lips press on yours, your tears wetting his cheeks as well as one his hands move from your face to your hair.
When the kiss started to get rougher you backed away, shaking your head desperately.
"This is what I meant! We can't keep doing this!We fight and then we fuck and I don't want to do this anymore."
"Jay,please."
The following words that left his mouth made your heart churn, but those were the only words you wanted to hear at that moment.
"If you want to end this here then I'll pack my stuff and leave."
"Leave."
Tumblr media
So you watched as he stuffed his clothes in his small baggage, each time apologizing, but you only kept your head down, embarrassment plastered on your face.
Settling his luggage down, you got up from the small armchair and studied his face, regret washing over it.
His hands cupped your cheeks for the last time, pressing a kiss on your forehead. His body turned to the door, taking the bag in his hand and leaving while looking at you again.
"Let's try this again one day."

Hi, I know I've been MIA for a while, but since the news about the cancellation of Shadow and Bone broke I've been sad and I need to let it all out. I've come to think of my blog here like a safe haven, so there's no better place for this.
These photos are of the very first original amigurumis I've ever made (sorry for the first photo, I hastily put it together just for this post because none of my photos seemed good enough). As you can see they are some of the characters of Shadow & Bone: Alina, the Darkling, Inej and Kaz. This was back in 2021, when the show premiered. Back then I had never heard of the Grishaverse, but when I saw the teaser my curiosity was piqued so I gave the books a chance and I LOVED them. After so many years on a reader's block and at a time in my life where I was struggling to get by, I had something new and exciting to look forward to. I loved the show (watched it twice in a row, actually), I loved the cast and I loved everything surrounding the Grishaverse. I even convinced two of my friends to read the books (and I regret nothing) 😂
I was so thrilled I HAD to do something, to create something new inspired by the Grishaverse. At that moment I had been crocheting only for a year but I thought I could try and see if something came out of it. That's how I crocheted Alina, my very first bookish amigurumi. It's not my best work, sure, but till this day I'm so very proud of the result. This was my first attempt at designing an amigurumi, I felt like I was improving my craftsmanship while honouring one of my favourite fantasy sagas. So I kept going, I crocheted the Darkling, made changes to get a better design, started putting more effort into my photos, even replicating the show posters. I kept growing my collection, adding Inej and Kaz and taking fun photos of all of them.
I didn't get far in terms of interactions and likes with them but I didn't care that much, I was just genuinely elated that I was creating something new with my bare hands and that was my priority.
And after them, I stuck to the book amigurumis. Created new patterns and characters, got more involved in photography and photoedition, and strived to do better with each new amigurumi. I got happier too, the thrill to create and share not only my craft but the books I love the most has been the best part of these last three years. And none of that wouldn't have existed without Shadow & Bone, without Leigh Bardugo and her universe, without that amazing cast and all of the writers and staff that have worked tirelessly to bring the Grishaverse to life.
So yeah, I'm heartbroken it has come to this abrupt and unfair end, especially when there was just a season left. In a way it feels like putting an end to a part of my journey as an amigurumi artist, this first part in which I was fumbling to learn and create something new. And as sad as it is, I want to say thank you too. It's not much, but it feels right to use my small amigurumi kingdom and reach to say thank you to everyone involved in the Grishaverse. You've made me unbelievably happy in so many different ways that I have trouble putting it into words.
Thank you as well to everyone who has taken a bit of their time to like, share and leave comments about my Grishaverse amigurumis. You helped me believe in my work and gave me strength to keep crocheting.
I will always remember the first time I showed Alina and the Darkling to my best friends and we talked about how I could crochet the rest, and which ones they wanted to see the most and "omg what if one of the actors noticed your work?????". It will never happen, but imagining the possibility still makes me feel a bit giddy even after two years.
If you've read this far, thank you to you too and sorry for my silly ramblings ♥️ If you love S&B too I'm free to cry together about all of the things we will never see on screen anymore.
P.S.: who would've thought that little me having a crush on Prince Caspian (aka the great Ben Barnes) would have ended in crocheting plushies inspired in book characters??? Not me for sure 😂

Siege and Storm- Chapter 13 (Leigh Bardugo)
Sorry, but Alina acts like such a judgemental neurotypical cunt here.
She doesn't know shit about David, she's acting as some sort of moral police occupying her high ground she earned by disobeying orders.
The way she turns the little she knows about David AGAINST HIM. She's like elementary school bully.
Look at that weirdo, slouching in his seat.
I knew he had qualms about the Darkling, because I've never talked to him, until I was begging him to disobey his superior (he likely knows most of his life). And he behaved like asocial introvert with unspecified disorders.
Tumblr media
Shadow and Bone- Chapter 19
Sure, later (S&B Chapter 20) we're informed "David feels terrible.", but that's after he's scared by Alina. While he doesn't seem the most skilled in social interactions, even he would pick up on something going on. Alina's freaking out, isn't she? They're TORTURING SOMEONE THERE, aren't they?! I don't think that's ordinary situation for him either.
Of course he'll jump to conclusions. Of course he'll imagine thousand different apocalyptic scenarios. As a weirdo myself, I know what kind of overly complicated possibilies can a stressed person like this come up with. "He thinks he’s destroyed all of Ravka."
... [it] hadn't stopped him from sealing the stag's collar around my neck. Alina keeps forgetting she was a deserter, messing with strategic plans high above her pay grade. None of it stops her from judging people, who wouldn't behave as recklessly as she does.
Maybe that was why he wouldn't look at me. Isn't that surprising? A person avoiding eye contact AVOIDS EYE CONTACT?! Just look how much attention he visibly paid to Genya- a girl he has feelings for:
Tumblr media
Shadow and Bone- Chapter 8
Alina's projecting, assigning David's fairly common pattern of behaviour to shame.
Or maybe he was just eager to get back to his workshop. ...which is a horrible, terrible, awful character trait. Imagine being absorbed in your work so much, you keep thinking about it even elsewhere!
This is what I was talking about. I know what you like and I'm gonna make you feel bad about it.

Grishaverse Tribute
I'm pissed. I'm vengeful. I'm going to march on Netflix.
The cancellation is uncalled for, now all we will see in return for the snubbing of one of the best series on Netflix, with one of the best fandoms, cast and creators another stupid documentary glorifying a serial killer, another shitty teen show with no plot but plenty of sex (because sexualizing children will be something they always get away with), and another over-marketed pointless action film with some former boxer or wrestler leading it who can't really act more than one type of nice-buff guy.
In my mournful and restless vengeful spirit, I have come up with another playlist dedicated to the Grishaverse, the fans, the cast and Leigh Bardugo. This breaks their hearts so much because we know how excited and passionate they were about telling this story, and to think now so many won't be able to go on and live their beloved characters through to the end. I can't stand it.
"None of this had been fated; none of it foretold. There had been no prophecies of a demon king or a dragon queen, a one-eyed Tailor, Heartrender twins. They were just the people who had shown up and managed to survive. But maybe that was the trick of it: to survive, to dare to stay alive, to forge your own hope when all hope had run out. For the survivors then, Zoya whispered to herself as the people before her knelt and chanted her name. And for the lost." - Leigh Bardugo, Rule of Wolves
I got to dream through them, Shadow and Bone saved my Covid years, when I was alone in a dorm learning online, unable to be with anyone else, with no friends and no family. I had little to no confidence and was stuck in a place that scared me. But then I had Shadow and Bone, I had these amazing characters and when I dove into the books, I found so much more. (A found family is my favourite literary trope for a reason.)
“Kaz leaned back. "What's the easiest way to steal a man's wallet?" "Knife to the throat?" asked Inej. "Gun to the back?" said Jesper. "Poison in his cup?" suggested Nina. "You're all horrible," said Matthias." - Leigh Barugo, Six of Crows
This is a playlist for all of us who are mourning and for all of us willing to fight on. I've seen petitions already posted on change.org, lets sign them all, share them all and try our best to change this while we can. Warrior Nun got their season 3. Who says we can't? Who says we shouldn't? Brick by Brick we will build our season 3, or we'll go down trying.
“Have any of you wondered what I did with all the cash Pekka Rollins gave us?" "Guns?" asked Jesper. "Ships?" queried Inej. "Bombs?" suggested Wylan. "Political bribes?" offered Nina. They all looked at Matthias. "This is where you tell us how awful we are," she whispered.” - Leigh Bardugo, Crooked Kingdom
Pardon the ecclectic taste of this long playlist, but there are so many types of song that I feel fit the plot, the charcaters and themes as well as their relationships to each other. This has sparked inspiration in me to create more playlists catering to the Grishaverse and I'll do that alongside my usual playlist posts.
I would also like to say that this playlist isn't just mine, it's for everyone and I would love for any fans of the show or books to let me know if they have any songs that they love to be added to the playlist and I will do so.
There are over 60 songs on this playlist, so I'm not going to write them all here for obvious reasons, I hope none of you mind that.
For our founding mother Leigh Bardugo. For the Six of Crows; Kaz Brekker, Inej Ghafa, Jesper Fahey, Wylan Van Eck, Nina Zenik, Matthias Helvar. For our S+B crew; Alina Starkov, Malyen Oretsev, The Darkling, Baghra Morotzova, Nikolai Lantsov, Zoya Nazyalensky, Genya Safin, David Kostyk, Tolya Yul-Bataar, Tamar Kir- Bataar, Nadia and Adrik Zhabin.
Let the revival of Season 3 be our final grand mission.
Lets stream the show, post more art, more fanfics, more posts, more petitions. Let's fight for what we can.
No Mourners, No Funerals.
'Yuyey sesh'
'Ni weh sesh'

ppl really talk about the darkling like he's a real living person casting an evil spell to make readers like him huh
literally. and it's even worse because the reader can tell right away that he's the antagonist. he's the socially outcast charismatic leader that wears all black, has shadow powers, is part of an oppressed minority, and wishes to exact change. the fact that he so clearly falls into the vilified revolutionary trope long before he even betrays alina - and that even before that alina is suspicious of him and never actually completely falls for him - means that there is no real method for the portrayal of the darkling to trick readers anyways.
it's amazing how people laud the writing as subversive and bardugo as a genius for his character when he plays into every racist trope imaginable and can't even properly convey what a real abuser looks or acts like in reality. they think that liking him means the reader has "fallen" for him in the same way alina has. except that alina never does, and the writing never allows you to fall for him, and the tone of the series from the beginning marks him as unacceptable.
so what you get is a whole bunch of people linking a terribly written allegory with a cheap imitation of the insidious methods abusers use to control their victims and manipulate societal norms to the very real effect actually well written satirical criticisms of society have on the general population that reveal hidden prejudices and biases while shining a light on propagandized misinformation.
I'm sorry, but liking the darkling or darklina can't actually prove leigh bardugo's point when the point is so poorly written it basically walks backwards. in no way is this piece of literature subversive or impactful on society's views of itself and it's methods of control. there's nothing to fall for because the darkling doesn't actually accurately represent a real type of person, and his relationship with alina doesn't accurately represent a real type of dynamic.

hello. several of my beloved friends (@teddywesworl and @kali and i think @postmodernau and quite possibly someone else) have tagged me in the 9 books you've read or are going to read meme. i do not feel like looking for images to make my meme look nice, so you will all simply get a List, along with all my Thoughts. this is what you wanted!!!
last year i read eight books! they were:
leigh bardugo's hell bent: really really good. i think i liked it better than ninth house.
freya marske's a restless truth and a power unbound: gnashes my teeth. really fun series! i think the last book was the best! 4p bought this for me.
stephen graham jones's the only good indian: LIFECHANGING BOOK! SCARY! BEST BOOK I'VE READ IN A LONG TIME!
kj charles's slippery creatures: good, but i didn't feel the need to go out and get the next couple books immediately.
juliet marillier's daughter of the forest: ough. really good classic doorstopper historical fantasy. read most of it while on vacation.
alexis hall's 10 things that never happened: very sweet. i like alexis hall. annie bought me this book.
geddy lee's my effin life: i'm sure you can figure out how i feel about it.
this year i am trying to read down my TBR pile. so far i have read:
t kingfisher's the hollow places. pretty good! scary! annie lent me this.
anthony horowitz's the twist of a knife. not my favorite of this series but i continue to admire tony for his meditations on mystery writing in the form of mystery books about mystery books.
morgan talty's night of the living rez. this wrecked me. i have a major structural bug up my ass about it (i think positioning it as a set of short stories does it a disservice and it should have been marketed as a novel) but i can't really complain when i spent two hours sobbing about the final section when i finished reading it.
up next is susanna clarke's piranesi. jonathan strange is one of my all time favorite books so i believe this will also be a favorite.
ok thank you for reading! i'll update in 10 months with my thoughts on the rest of the books i've read this year :3

how does it feel to know that the author that created the character you’re defending outright called out the pro darkling fans and actually used their arguments against them in the king of scars duology? you know something’s off when even the AUTHOR says you’re wrong lmao
I don't respect Leigh Bardugo enough to care about her opinions. Sorry 🤷🏽‍♀️. She speaks about issues she clearly doesn't understand and acts like she's the authority on the subject, she wrote a story "against abuse" that somehow made the message worse, and she infantilizes her female fans as well as her female characters. Her writing supports oppression and racism, and has a pretty heavy theme of assimilation and conformity. She cheapens real oppression, abuse, manipulation, and grooming with her heavy handed attempts at writing them when she's so clearly ignorant.
The King of Scars duology is so badly written it's almost laughable. Zoya's rise to power is highly offensive, especially when it comes to how the persecution of her people is handled. Leigh Bardugo doesn't actually use Darkling fan arguments against them in the KoS duology (or prove them wrong) because she doesn't seem capable of understanding what they're even saying. She can't effectively argue against or disprove something she cannot even a) properly address, or b) understand at it's most fundamental level.
Even so, what she has to say about the subject is simply wrong. She clearly doesn't even know how cults or religions work, and the levels of finger-pointing in the KoS duology are so extreme as to be comical. You mean the Darkling that was dead all this time is somehow the cause of the problems the main characters created? He is somehow manipulating them even now from beyond the grave? At what point do people realize they're just using a convenient scapegoat?
"You know something's off when even the AUTHOR says you're wrong" - Look I'm sorry to burst your bubble Anon but authors aren't actually an authority on anything, and especially not on very serious issues like persecution and abuse. Would you take HP Lovecraft's word about the morals in his stories? I doubt it. Because the author will always have prejudices outside of their writing that they incorporate into it, and Leigh Bardugo clearly does.
So no, I don't feel much of anything on the subject, because Leigh Bardugo has proven to have nothing important to say on it. In fact, she generally only has very harmful and ignorant things to say. And in true echo chamber fashion, so do her fans and Darkling antis.

Help us save Six of Crows!
DONATE ONLY $1 TO HELP US REACH OUR GOAL! WE ARE GOING TO DO A BILLBOARD FOR SAB TOO!
On November 15th, Netflix announced its cancellation of the Six of Crows project, an adaptation of Leigh Bardugo’s beloved Grishaverse duology. Since then, there has been an outpour of grief and heartbreak online from thousands of fans, begging for a reversal.
The novel Six of Crows was first published 8 years ago, gaining critical acclaim and a massive fanbase. Over the years, its numbers have only grown. First appearing on screen in Shadow and Bone, the Crows rapidly became favorites among critics and fans alike. The fandom’s love for the ragtag crew from Ketterdam was so significant and well-known that the show diverges from the book’s canon to include them. When showrunner Eric Heisserer announced in March that a Six of Crows spinoff was in the works the fandom rejoiced, but since being canceled, the fandom's joy quickly turned into dismay and uproar.
With scripts already written, an immensely talented group of people both in front of and behind the camera more than ready to work, and a massive fanbase, it’s baffling that Netflix would choose not to go forward with the project. However, the Grishaverse fandom refuses to accept this fate.
We refuse to accept that we will never see Inej Ghafa’s empowering backstory, the beautiful love story of Matthias and Nina, the dozens of famous lines that make us weep, or a single scene with all of our beloved Crows together.
We have organized this Kickstarter campaign to show Netflix that we reject this abrupt and heartbreaking end. For the cast, for the crew, for all of us that love this world and these characters, we will fight to see this story on screen.
Donations to this Kickstarter will be put towards the renting of a large billboard in Los Angeles demanding Netflix’s action in saving the Six of Crows series. If sufficiently funded, we plan to expand the campaign to other locations to further demonstrate our commitment.
As exact details will partially depend on the success of this fundraiser, more information about the specific address and duration of the billboard(s) rental will come soon. For questions, keep an eye on this webpage or follow @freddybrekker on X for updates.
It is our hope that Netflix will be forced to listen to the fandom’s dedication to this series as well as our outrage at its cancellation. For our cause to be successful, we must be impossible to ignore.
Finally, we will leave you with words from our brilliant, dedicated and beloved cast of Crows.
“I feel like the fans, myself included, have been really looking forward to seeing the Six of Crows storyline come to life. It's just so, so cinematic, that storyline…It would be heartbreaking to get this close and then not get to see all six of them together." Freddy Carter
“I haven't had the same luxury of Inej's backstory yet, and I think they're saving that. I'm really, really glad that they are. I know the payoff for this, if it does happen, is gonna be absolutely an emotional wreck but in the most beautiful, exciting and exhilarating way.” Amita Suman
“I’m heartbroken by the idea that we won’t be able to finish what we started… I desperately wished to go further, and believe me those plans are special…The patience I’ve carried for that dream these past years has been beating in me like a slow steady drum, and yesterday it paused for the first time.” Calahan Skogman
"[Nina has] helped many people like me to love, like, and accept myself. I tried to stay true to her character.” Danielle Galligan
“Growing up, I didn’t see that many characters like myself who were in big fantasy series, with violence or [who] even had access to fantasy weapons or got involved in big fights and battles…I think to see a character like myself in those situations is a really cool thing, it’s something that I actually don’t see often.” Jack Wolfe
"I think that I can speak for everyone here when we all really care about doing it well, and we are invested in its success… I think hopefully what you see is something that we are already proud of because we’ve put our blood, sweat, and tears into it. And it’s just a joy to do. So wherever it can go next, if we get the chance to keep going, then you know, we’re all game, we’re all excited to do it." Kit Young
