Omg you discord post is exactly what I’ve been thinking as well. I’ve joined it for fandoms and school groups and irl community stuff and each and every time I get so anxious that I end up going ghost. Speaking specifically on fandom though, I recently deleted my account and the app (love being #free) because the one to one feel of involvement is A Lot. I love screaming into the void and shooting off a stupid post way too much so having to think through everything I say is anxiety like I don’t actually want to feel like I’m in a chat room? Idk but it’s the same with twitter, I use it to crack some jokes but the extra sense of familiarity that seems to come with frequent interactions overwhelms me and everyone else just seems to be okay with it. I realize that’s a box of a social anxiety thing in general though. Anyway not that you asked bit this is why I don’t think I’ll ever leave tumblr it caters so perfectly to the hermit in me lol

oh bud i completely feel you, it's an absolute nightmare for people with any amount of social anxiety. pretty much the only reason i use discord is for ttrpg organizational purposes, and for the one movie watching/music league group chat with my group of friends; any servers i've joined that are bigger than that i go through the exact same process every time: agonize over what to say for several days because everyone else already seems incredibly familiar with each other in a way that's so deeply terrifying and intimidating and then eventually just leaving again. which sux! i wanna Take Part In Stuff and meet people who share my interests but i'm a big ball of anxiety and that setting is my nightmare... so i definitely get you. and good on you for deciding that you're no longer getting anything out of it and pulling the plug! it can be hard especially with how much it's assumed that you have certain social media and FOMO and alla dat, so i'm glad you were able to draw a line and i hope it helps make you feel more comfortable.

i don't mind twitter as much because it feels more passive in a lot of ways. like, engagement can just be a driveby fav or even if you do reply or someone replies to you there's an inherent built-in acceptance of delay in response or even just like. Acknowledgement By Fav Can Be Enough. which imo is definitely not the atmosphere for discord at least ime. but it's still not great for fandom stuff for a ton of other reasons including the complete lack of archiving. and honestly, i abandoned my public twitter for my locked down private one for a multitude of reasons and the anxiety around having to keep up some sort of Public Persona is definitely part of it, so i absolutely understand you on that level as well.

tumblr has its own issues obviously, but like you i never felt the same sense of pressure or dread here. a big part of that is obviously the whole reblog system in itself, in that it's totally fine and even encouraged to just, idk , silently curate pretty pictures for a bit and at most commenting in the tags when you have something to say or w/e, but also being able to do the whole shooting random thoughts into the void whenever you want to instead. it's also much, much easier to curate my experience here than anywhere else lol. much more robust blacklisting functions available (albeit reliant on third party extensions) and if you didn't choose to put something on your dash then tumblr won't for the most part force it on you. so that for sure helps.

idk, i don't have the solution! because like, yes in many ways discord and twitter are suboptimal for fandom stuff but in many ways it's also down to the fact that i do obviously have pretty severe anxiety around these things and struggle with it immensely in a way that a lot of people obviously don't. which sucks but isn't their problem.

i still think we should all move to dreamwidth though. if enough of us hermits congregate there other people eventually have to follow, right? that's how we all ended up on tumblr in the first place :x

Hey, genuine question: What are you hoping to achieve by ranting about ppl writing more fanfiction about Thomas than Madi? Because I'm pretty sure you won't make people like a character more by ranting about them, so I doubt your rants will produce more Madi-centric stories. If you're just posting these rants because you need to vent that's fair, but maybe don't use the main fandom tag, I don't think that's appropriate for vent posts.

So! I realized that with Tomoko and Yaoling (and possibly Yukimi, and possibly the currently unknown thief who we just found out to have a sticker of his non-thief appearance, and possibly others) having what seems to be both a real-world, non-thief iteration and a Phantom Idol counterpart, there's suddenly a bit of an issue with my tagging system- namely, should I be tagging non-thief characters by codename if they have a Phantom Idol version with a codename??

The issues I see with this are:

The Phantom Idol and non-thief versions of them are technically different characters, so they should get tagged differently

But they're also just different versions of the same character, so it makes sense to sort them under the same tag

I could just always use both codename and real name, but then I have to tag posts twice, which is a little tedious (especially if several of these characters are in one post)

Always tagging them twice sort of defeats the purpose of using two different tags?

I'm still going to be tagging actual story teammates with codenames as we learn them, regardless of whether they're in the metaverse in that post. Is it weird to have the posts tagged "closer" and "tomoko noge" include Motoha and Tomoko, Closer and Phantom Idol!Tomoko, and theoretically even Motoha and Phantom Idol!Tomoko and Closer and Tomoko??

But I also tag the original Phantom Thieves by their real names, with the exception of Joker. Is it weird to tag a post as "ann takamaki", "closer", and "tomoko noge" if it's Panther, Closer, and Phantom Idol!Tomoko? What about if it's Ann, Motoha, and Tomoko?

What about Phantom Idols that we haven't seen any indication of meeting outside the Metaverse yet? Does it make sense to tag Leo or Mont by their real name if we only ever see them as Phantom Idols?

So I'm opening a poll to see what you guys think. I'm kind of inclined to just keep tagging any new characters that're playable in any iteration, whether story or Phantom Idol, as their codenames, since that's what I established as the start, and it saves me from retagging if their real names were mistranslated... but I'm also not sure if I'm just being stubborn, haha.

Also, to clarify, this is for reblogged posts, more than original posts! Original posts will probably be tagged with both names either way, so that they're a little easier to find if someone goes in the larger Tumblr tag for that character. I'm asking this for organizational purposes on this blog!

Always so impressed by the way you leave detailed comments in the tags when you reblog fanart/fic. I'm sure the ops really appreciate it! Meanwhile my brain is just white noise while I try to think of anything to tag until I give up and hit reblog 😅

The potential downside of this is that it can take a while for me to sort and type out my thoughts between liking a post and (eventually) reblogging it, which I know is discouraging for content creators in general, but especially on this website given how likes vs reblogs work.

But regardless of all that, thanks 😅 Fandom is amazing and wild to me in the sense that you have people, without any monetary motivation, viewing a work, enjoying and internalizing it in a way unique to them formed by their own experiences, and then taking all that to produce work they want to share out of some degree of fondness for an IP and wanting others to see what they took from it. And with TPN specifically having ended both its manga and anime runs, I think it’s neat how people aren’t necessarily producing content to be trendy, but because there’s still something about this IP that brings them joy in whatever way they choose to interpret it. A potentially clichéd sentiment, but I enjoy the authenticity and like to be encouraging. Like, they didn’t have to put that content out there, but they did! And through a multitude of factors, I’m able to see and enjoy it! Amazing stuff; I like to pay that back, even if it’s paltry in comparison lol. And if other people want to vibe with me while I’m doing that, the more the merrier!

i don't really think there's a clean cut method of making an aes blog, people just do whatever here tbh, and that's the fun of it!! <3 but that being said, i think the 'customs' also depend on what kind of blog you want to make as i've noticed each side of tumblr has their own culture to say the least. do you want to be an aes upload blog? a moodboard blog? an aes rb blog? or maybe even a mix of all those?

i haven't seen any common tag that people usually go to for aes posts (unlike CC/fandom content creator blogs), honestly. it's more common to see people using the tags for their own organizational purposes/for trigger warnings, although i think you may also reach an audience just by using the #aes tag. the problem w it is that all kinds of aes are there though!!

if you're starting from the ground up, it really is common to not get notes, but it's nothing to worry about (for me at least) because you'll eventually get a following if you do it consistently/long enough!! having mutuals definitely helps boost posts though; tumblr literally just runs on reblogs. on a similar note, i think having moots with the same aes can simultaneously help you combat getting your posts lost in the tags bc then you'd be able to find people who actually look for similar content.

in terms of sourcing, i mostly see people just getting them from instagram. it's VERY IMPORTANT to link back to the source though, no matter where it is from. you can forget everything else but not this. if there's anything you should take away from all these, it's that you should always leave the credit of the original poster on ur caption. you can also ask them if you can repost their content here on tumblr.

all that being said, there really isn't a single way/recipe of doing things. just have fun and the rest will come!! as for me, my blog has been a mess of things over the past 11 years, but if anything, the only advice i can give u is just do/post whatever u like!! <3 i get that you're nervous, but just go for it!! i'm sure it'll be fun <3 the first step is always the scariest. :)

i don't wanna be annoying by posting this on my stim blog but i'm literally so upset that tumblr's stupid ios update banned literally all the stimming tags, like i just came back to my stim blog this past month and ios users now can't even see the paint mixing tag of all things? paint mixing?! and cutting and knives are tags that are needed to tag things like soap cutting and kinetic sand cutting and sure i could just tag regular gifs as sensory or satisfying (unless those are blocked too lmao) instead of stim but i need to be able to tag stimboards as such for organizational purposes and what am i gonna do, start saying "sensory board"?? tumblr please i'm just an autistic person trying to run a fun, calming little blog and this is so discouraging and makes me worry a bunch of stim blogs will go inactive because all the tags we use just got killed :(

Hello, I'm lost 😂 It's a weird ask but do we have an hashtag that bayern fans use during matchdays ? Because on the bayern tags, there's not a lot of posts but then after the game you see a lot of posts that were posted but didn't appear on the tags (don't know if you understand me lmao). It would be helpful because I follow a lot of blogs so the bayern posts get lost on my dashboard so I can't see them during the game. And I have to read them afterwards by checking blogs one after one but never remember what half of the posts refer to .. (sorry to ask that to you but I really like your blog so I though of you) (there's a problem of hashtag in general, what is the "normal one" ? #bayern #fc bayern ?)
