On Izzy Hands

Popping this on this blog too, just so it'll show up in the tags... My superior alternate suggestions for a S2 ending are under the cut. We all know I'm right.

Honesty Hour time. The reason we were all like 'I bet he's going to die' is because WHENEVER a character has a cool redemption arc OR a queer character comes out and experiences genuine queer joy for the first time in their life, their mortality rate goes up by 90%. But it was such a disappointment to be proven right.

I think we all expected better of the writing team. They've committed to doing genuinely new and interesting things with this story in the past, rather than just trotting out tired old tropes! But... not in this case.

People say they want more Zuko-esque redemption arcs, but we can't have that if every character who was A Bit Of A Dick at first gets killed off. And... c'mon. The whole arc of Izzy finding a family in the crew, and healing after being abused awfully for ages, and finding happiness, and openly embracing his queerness and disability.... then just randomly getting shot by a dude? Not even as a dramatic 'protecting someone' sacrifice? He just randomly got shot?? And we're all supposed to feel sad about that rather than just kinda let down?

Yeaaaaah, I do not think they achieved what they were going for.

I understand that a lot of that was because they had to shorten the series SO MUCH more than they wanted, but still.... it would have cost nothing to let Izzy just sail away with the rest of the crew as the Captain of the Revenge, while Ed and Stede retired!! It felt kinda like they were building towards that all season! Hell, that would've been a more meaningful progression for all of their characters.

We could still have had the scene where Izzy tells Ed he has family and that he's loved! We could've had a fake-out death where we had all the drama and expectation that he would die! Then in the last scene he comes out as the new captain to officiate Lucius and Pete's wedding!

We'd have Ed and Stede letting go of Blackbeard for good and building something new together on land - but we'd also have Izzy finally moving beyond the 'Blackbeard' persona he helped Ed create (and, arguably, did more for than Ed!). He'd be a captain who actually gives a shit about his crew, but who has learnt from Stede and Ed the importance of being a bit softer and gentler rather than brutally efficient 24/7. He evidently already admires Zheng (the face journey he goes on when she downs the big guy at Jackiez is ... it's sure something!) and I want a million more hours of them interacting. I bet they could be a super-funny duo. Plus, he could inevitably drag Stede and Ed back in next season! And get revenge on the prince who shot him!

It would've been perfect.But no, they had to kill him off because the OT3 potential was too strong, and bury a career pirate on land. Meh.

I'm tempted to watch the next season, if there is one, just for Olu/Jim/Archie/Zheng, but I can't say I care that much about the writing anymore. I won't be crying if the show does stop here, but I will be crying over everything that could have been!

Yes sjm did say that she would like to explore Azriel's character more, but she also said the same about Eris at one point. There's a lot of anticipation for the next book, and if Azriel's book is next, then that would have been a pretty risky and spoilery comment imo

"I'm currently working on the next ACOTAR book and that's all I'm going to say about that."

SJM confirms Elain will be getting a book, confirms she knew who the first two spin-offs were going to be about but was unsure of the third, confirms she left hints for Elain's journey early on in the series, confirms her initial plan for the spin-offs didn't change, and indicated she had done research for Elain's book while pregnant with her son.

SJM makes comment about how when you get the end of SF, you'll know whose book is next (despite the ending of SF featuring Nesta with her two sisters, her placing Elain's rose on her fathers grave and Eris telling us that Beron, Koschei and the treaty are the current concerns) and Az's journey is one she's excited to explore.

Fandom: Proof Azriel book is next!

SJM includes Elain in the Az Bonus and makes her a major topic of conversation in the Feyre bonus.

SJM includes Az in the Bryce HOFAS bonus which also included Nesta.

Fandom: Azriel is next because SJM wanted to give him more page time and he's now been the focus of two POVs!

(it's odd that Az being a side character in Bryce's POV is such a big deal while Elain being a side character in Az's and the topic of conversation in Feyre's is often made out to be an insignificant thing. No she did not get her own POV but SJM added that she's got Az beat for secret keeping for a reason, it's possible Elain not getting a POV before her book was very intentional on the authors part).

SJM introduces the Elucien mating bond in ACOMAF and Lucien has spent 2.5 books dealing with the struggles of an unfulfilled bond.

SJM hints at an Az mating bond in his POV though as of HOFAS he still remains completely unaware which means there's nothing to resolve with his bond at this point.

Fandom: Az gets to be with his mate in the next book!

I apologize for the sass of my post but I agree with you. For an author and publisher who insist on remaining tight-lipped about whose book is going to be next, it's odd that anyone thinks she's going to confirm it by making the statement that Az is someone she wants to explore.

Az's bonus told us he feels like nothing at all? Been there, done that with Lucien in ACOMAF and ACOWAR.

Lucien has been struggling with his unfulfilled bond since ACOMAF.

Az has a mysterious connection to who TT first belonged to?

Lucien has an unknown father that we're still waiting to be revealed since ACOWAR and got our first hints of in ACOMAF when he broke the shackles the king had on him to get to Elain.

Az likes music?

We found out that Lucien camped often, can fish with his bare hands, used to read for pleasure but hasn't been able to do many of those things in a long time.

Gwyn needs to take the next steps to leaving the library for good and exploring her powers?

Elain has been waiting for her story to be told which includes all that and more for much longer and Elain is underestimated by so many which to me, means her book is long overdue. You can only keep a character misunderstood for so long and I'd say that after SF addressed that multiple times, it's time for her to shine.

Az and Nesta both thought negatively of Elain and what she was capable of handling in SF with Amren and Rhys pointing out that maybe they've all been wrong and that she is capable of getting her hands dirty. Wouldn't the book following that realization be the most logical one for showing us exactly what that means?

SJM has spoken of Elain and Az throughout various interviews through the years, even after being signed on for the spin-offs but you know who she's gone quiet on?

Lucien.

If SJM and Bloomsburg have truly wanted the reveal of the next book to be a surprise then wouldn't Lucien being one of the two POVs be the thing that was the most surprising of all?

E/riels believe Elain's book is next.

Gwynriels believe it's Az.

But very little is said about Lucien.

Could it mean he's the farthest thing from her mind? Maybe.

But it could just as realistically mean she's finally gearing up to gush about one of her favorite characters as she did when Rhys was revealed as Feyre's endgame love interest.

LiS True Colors fanfic (prologue)

Terrible title, I know lmao, but it doesn't have an actual title yet. I'm finally ready to start sharing my fanfics, this being the first one here.

The main idea was "what if Alex had Max's powers too?" because I wanted to write a time travel story, basically. It starts after the ending of the game, but not an official one, I guess? I kinda mixed two of them. The beggining of the fic will be more Alex/Steph but there are a lot of mentions of Alex/Ryan in this prologue too.

Last thing is that English is not my main language so sorry for any mistake! Here's something I drew for it:

  The bus gave a sudden lurch, and Alex had to catch herself from falling off the seat. For that measly second, her mind returned to the real world, looking around. Beside her, Steph was going through the same thing, cursing under her breath as she returned to her previous position.

  Then it ended.

  Her attention immediately returned to the window, her cheek resting on her hand. Outside, the trees and mountains were farther apart. Different. Quite different from Haven Springs. The realization of that knocked her over again, making Alex swallow hard as she began to think about how her own decision hadn't made her as satisfied as she'd hoped.

  Maybe it was because she didn't think it would happen so soon. I mean, Alex was never an optimistic person. Far from that. Because optimism never made her life easier. However, part of her had found small hopes just a few weeks ago, when she'd been on a bus much like this one: seeing Gabe again could be weird, but could also be good. She could find connections, comfort, and everything else she'd lacked before. She could make Haven Springs her home.

  She would be lying if she said that things didn't turn out the way her more unrealistic self imagined.

  And again, even that hadn't gotten her anywhere. For there she was, heading towards the opposite side of the country, just as she had started.

  Alex sighed, burying her face in her hand.

  "Look," Steph's voice made her reluctantly focus on something that was not her thoughts, "you might be the one among us who reads minds... Buuuuut something tells me you'd have a blue stain around you right now ... It's blue, right?

  A second sigh came out of Alex's throat, but this time, she too turned her head and smiled slightly. A sad smile:

  "I am really sorry. I think I'm kind of tired."

  "But already?" Steph didn't seem convinced, "It's the first hours of our incredible journey! When we're in Pennsylvania you won't even be able to stand up then!"

  There was a certain good humor in her voice, which Alex appreciated. She was already tired of all the disguised judgments she had received in the last few days in that city.

  "You're really used to traveling, huh!?"

  "I prefer to believe that I wasn't born for only one city!" Steph closed her eyes in a dramatic pose, pointing at herself.

  It was lovely. Alex's smile rose a few inches, until she noticed the blue stain start to appear around the other one. It was small and lasted a few seconds. Alex even tried to avoid reading Steph's thoughts, but it was almost involuntary: as none so far made me feel like I should.

  "I'm with you on this one!" Alex laughed awkwardly.

  She knew her thoughts would take over again. So she didn't even turn her face to the window. Instead, she slowly laid down on Steph's shoulder, giving the other woman enough time to stop her if she wanted to. But of course Steph didn't move a muscle, just resting her head on Alex's.

  The contact was still awkward. Something she knew she would need more time to get used to. It was just one of the many consequences of growing up with little affection. She now avoided and begged for it in equal measure. It was like that when she hugged Gabe for the first time after meeting him again: awkward, out of place and strangely nice.

  She felt her brother's affection in unusual ways, being when she discovered that he had bought a guitar as a gift, days before she arrived; or when everyone in town spoke to her with a certain familiarity during her first week there. "Gabe couldn't stop talking about you!", Ryan confessed one afternoon that he spent at her apartment, "He guaranteed that everyone would love you! He said that you could form a band with Steph. That you wouldn't even complain about watching the boring documentaries I liked. Scary how right he was... And now I understand why he thought that...".

  Every time she talked about Gabe with Ryan, she felt a warm feeling in her chest, in a way she knew she wouldn't feel with anyone else. The two understood each other and expressed their love for Gabe through each other as well. It made that anything but real, as if they were just two old friends reminiscing about stories and would soon see Gabe again.

  Affection for Alex often took that form: being able to pretend everything was fine with someone else.

  At that very moment, Alex had her legs on top of Ryan's. He gently placed his hand on her knee, lightly caressing the area. Something so small and ordinary and…weird. She didn't know if she liked it, and it made her uneasy.

  She wanted something real and different from the feelings she'd stolen from someone else. And she knew reality was always a little scary, so she seemed to be on the right path.

  It intensified when she handed him the rose at the festival, her heart beating a mile a second. Even worse when she kissed him for the first time, the gold and purple mingled in him as well as her. She was close enough to feel everything that went through his mind. It was always a mixed bag, just like it was with Alex. Confused. Scary. New. Comfortable.

  Maybe all that fear wasn't so bad after all.

  Purple certainly followed her through the rest of that short relationship.

  She saw how Ryan was paralyzed as she confronted his father. Or when he himself yelled at her, telling her to stop it.

  Ryan didn't believe her.

  It wasn't the anger she was so used to that washed over him as he refused her touch, almost as if he was disgusted with her. Or when he started avoiding her for the next few days, his guilt prevented him from even getting close.

  No. It wasn't anger. Or sadness.

  It was fear.

  Now Alex couldn't help but think of everything from the start. At all the other times that emotion was present.

  Maybe it wasn't as normal as she wanted to believe it was.

  "It's like this in the beginning!" Steph's voice again brought her back to the real world.

  Alex needed a few seconds to even understand what was said:

  "Huh?"

  "This weird bus adrenaline! It's always kind of sad, at least it was like that for me too" She said while practically rubbing her face against Alex's, "But let me tell you a secret: Salem will never be the best part! We have many places to visit even before there!"

  "Is that talk about 'the true treasure are the friends you made along the way?"

  Steph lightly punched her arm, even though she was laughing:

  "I'm serious, okay? The good part is that we'll never know if Salem will really be our final stop. Maybe we'll walk into a hotel in the middle of nowhere in Ohio and decide that's where we belong."

  "Is that what happened when you stopped in Haven Springs?"

  "No..." She admitted, "But that hope always wanted to get me out of there."

  Alex still appreciated how much the other tried to cheer her up, so she decided to shrug her shoulders, giving up:

  "Who knows, right? We might not even stop anywhere! Let's just keep traveling. We just need to get temporary jobs to buy a van."

  "Then we can make a short list: ‘places to visit before death'! We will travel the country!"

  "And then we'll go down to Latin America. Somewhere has to be our place."

  "Or no place will ever be our place!"

  "You make it look like a good thing." She chuckled.

  "You understand me, Alex."

  That simple sentence cut the conversation short. Alex lifted her head from her shoulder, then made eye contact with Steph. She had said the last sentence simply, as if she was joking. However, the way she was looking at Alex now, it was as if she had confessed to something much bigger, which she had been keeping inside for a long time.

  The color purple washed over Steph.

  Alex smiled.

  Maybe she wasn't so wrong about affection and love.

1) Summer of ‘14

Some of the happiest yet darkest moments of my life are enclosed between these pages. I got to know myself better only through the challenges I faced trying to find myself again. Then I realized, through every faze of me, is still me every time. It is me when I am angry, it is me when I am sad, it is me when I am scared. I am ever present. It is the emotions washing over me which beat my heart like that of the ocean waves which beat the rocks, yet I still stand strong and undefeated when the tides slow and the water whooshes steadily again. I am ever present.

We as humans have a habit of believing that we're only our true sleves when we're happy, though through life we learn we are always ourselves through every feeling. Just journeying different waves of feelings, traveling through situations and emotions like time and space. The beginning of my education in this fact was the summer of 2014, on my eighteenth birthday, when he looked at me differently, and I could feel it.

I'd known him my entire life, and believe me, my best friend and I have looked at him this certain way for an eternity with nothing in return. But this day... was different. My big bother Alex came in with a cigarette hanging from his mouth as always, and beside him was his new girlfriend and best friend, Matty. This is where my story begins.

Alex pressed his cheek against mine in a smooch, cig still hanging from his lips as he did so. He dug into the back pocket of his black skinny jeans and handed me a wad of folded cash, "Happy brithday, Elvie!"

"Thanks," I smiled.

"I know what you're gonna say, I should've gotten a real gift, but I dunno what you're into. What do the kids like these days eh?" He looked over at his girlfriend and Matty.

"Hover boards," his blonde bombshell of a babe responded.

"I'm not a kid, I'm officially a woman today." I hated when he treated me like a child all the time because of our nine and a half year age gap.

"Oh, well excuse me," Alex took off his sunglasses and turned to his girlfriend to introduce us, "oh by the way, this is Leah."

This was nothing new, he always had a new girlfriend, and she always looked like the last. It was as if he was always looking for the same woman, just with a new personality or beginning.

"Nice to meet you, Leah." I tried to keep a smile on my face, but I already didn't like her for thinking I'd be into something as lame as a hover board just because they're a big deal on the Vine app... who did she think she was to even make such a generalization?

I looked over at the skinny man beside him. He pushed his long ruly curls out of his face, he was wearing so much black he looked like a shadow. His t-shirt was so big it nearly hit his knees where his skinny jeans were ripped and exposed his pale knobby knees. I never could understand how he and Alex could wear so much black in all the California sun we basked in daily in the heat of summer... but this was typical of them.

"Hi Matty." I smiled shyly.

"Hey Elvira, happy birthday." He said with his cokney sound of an accent. He smiled back, his eyes flashing at me for a second, then dancing everywhere but at me. My heart sank a little. He leaned in and gave me a slight hug, soon letting go as he was thrown off by my best friend zooming by on her hover board. I'd caught Leah in a smirk at the sight.

"Alex!" Genevieve skipped in front of me and threw herself onto Alex. She'd been doing that for years, she'd always had the biggest crush on him. I didn't really see why, all he ever did was  make music. I mean all he did, ever. Maybe this was why he always had a new girlfriend, he'd hardly pay attention to any of them.

"Woah girl," he laughed a little, hugging her back, Leah seemed to not be of ease in this moment. Genevieve didn't bother introducing herself. She smiled and looked at Matty just as shyly as I had, together we'd crushed on him since we were twelve.

We liked the way he dressed, we liked the whiff of cigarette smoke that would leave a trail behind him every time he walked by, it mixed with the subtlest cologne we could never really make out. 'At least he'd tried though', we'd always say. We loved the untidiness of his appearance, and the edge of everything he'd do, like shaving the side of his head, or literally only wearing black most days... and surprising us with pops of color here and there on a random day. He was unpredictable, creative, cool, and beautiful. The only thing missing was the height, but he was still fairly taller than the both of us, so we didn't dock him any points.

"Matty," Genevieve smiled at him just as shyly as I had.

She looked back at me, smiling. It was always a silent game between us of who'd get the most attention from him, knowing good and well he really would never give either one of us the real time of day. It was just fun to play the game and day dream.

"Genevieve," he said back, waving at her.

She wasn't as comfortable with him as she was with Alex. We'd been best friends since we were five, when my mother, Alex and I had moved to California. My father had passed away from sickness, and luckily, he had made investments in the state during his time as a real estate broker so we had a beautiful home in Los Angeles left to us. Alex and I had different father's, but his had walked out on him and my mother before I was born. Since she was all we'd ever had, Alex swore he was my dad.

"Where's Mom?" Alex asked, "I wanna introducde her to Leah."

"Oh sure, you've only not seen her for about two years, meeting Leah has to be the first priority, how long have you been together?" I asked.

He took a lighter from his pocket and lit his cigarette, he knew all too well that my disliking for Leah sank in. Matty laughed a little, walking away, knowing I'd done it now.

Leah looked at Alex, waiting for him to answer.

The silence pained us all, but as always, Mom saved the day, gasping as she slid the patio door open.

"Alex!" She came out with open arms, wrapping him in an embrace.

Genevieve gave me the side eye, and together we headed back over to the pool side.

"Why'd you do that?" She asked quietly as we sat down, dipping our feet in the water.

"Because." I shrugged, "Alex asked what do kids like these days and she answered a hover board. I told them today makes me a woman, and then when she saw you on your's and thought otherwise. I don't like her."

"I mean, I don't like anyone with Alex, because he's supposed to be mine, but come on, how do you know what she thought?" Genevieve laughed.

I shook my head, rolling my eyes and laughing, "Ew, stop, why are you always saying that, he's ... Alex."

"Wel you like Matty." She said.

"So do you." I pointed out.

"I mean, honestly Alex is hotter. I just like watching you like him and all the little games we play." She shook her head.

"Really?" I asked.

"Really. All these years. My fantasy, is I get Alex, and you get Matty, and we go on double dates all the time." She took her cover up off and slipped into the pool slowly, getting used to the iciness of the water, "but Farah Faucett over there is in the way."

I couldn't help but smile, tying my dark curly hair in a pineapple on my head and taking my slip off also, slipping into the pool. I looked over in the distance, seeing Matty smoking a cig and pacing around. I couldn't help but fall deep into a daydream about Genevieve's fantasy, coincidentally, Fantasy by Mariah Carey came on the radio.

Genevieve splashed at me, "snap out of it!"

My jaw dropped as she'd almost wet my hair, which was the biggest no in my book. I splashed back at her, and the war began.

"Elvie! You ready make a wish?!" Mom brought the cake to the pool.

It felt special, blowing out my candles from the pool. Everyone gathered over, I could see Leah was the least interested in seeing me make a birthday wish. I closed my eyes as they sang to me, it was the most embarrassing part I hated to face every year. When the terrible wails came to an end, I blew out the flames standing from the big "1" and "8" candles.

Mom removed the candles and immediately after, Alex threw the entire cake in my face. Everyone laughed as I screamed, mom included.

"MOM! ALEX THREW THE CAKE IN MY FACE!" I shouted.

"We have another one don't worry you'll still eat cake." She laughed.

My eyes were shut tight as I felt everyone's arms helping me out of the pool. A towel gently patted my eyes, I could finally open my eyes and see that it was Matty standing in front of me.

He held the towel out, unsure whether or not to still help me. My heart raced in my chest, I was certain I looked monsterous with my damp hair and cake all over my face.

He could see how startled I was, pausing and passing me the towel. I looked down at my chest, seeing where the rest of the cake had fallen. Everyone else still laughed in amusement, but in this moment... it felt as if Matty and I were in a world completely of our own. His eyes this time, danced everywhere that was part of me. I dried off, sneaking glances at him through the corner of my eye, and seeing his eyes, still fixed on me. I covered up with the towel, and he looked away quickly as he realized he'd been staring at me longer than normal.

"We had to! It's your eighteenth birthday!" Alex shouted.

I laughed nervously, "jerk."

Matty walked off, my eyes followed him, not noticing Alex's following mine.

Before we get too far into 2024, I wanna look back on some of my favorite parts of 2023. My life has changed so much over the last few years, entirely for the better, and I'm so thankful for it every day.

This has been the most wonderful and healing journey I've been on, and this is the trajectory I want to keep for my life; staying on course, working to be the best version of me, with the incredible support system of friends both old and new I have beside me.

So cheers to 2023, and my past, and everything that brought me here!

Oliver, of course, remains one of the best things. To the surprise of no one. Look at his little face!

Some of my amazingly talented friends and I started an art collective and now we travel Central Ohio selling at art shows.

Another friend and I doubled down on our small side hustle and we broke CinCityCon records for selling, I'm pretty sure! It was so successful this year, we're looking at going to Orgins in 2024!

We got to meet some of our favorite celebrities at GalaxyCon!

HOW COULD I POSSIBLY LEAVE OFF OUR DND GROUP AT THE RENFAIR??? Some of my favorite people on the planet 🥰 our necromancer and ranger sadly had to cancel. (this picture shows off another fave: see my scarlet letter??? I'm an Officially Licensed Wench of the 73rd Division!)

The Wild West escape room we did for my birthday! TJ was horribly sick and couldn't make it, which was so sad, but we managed to have a great time anyway!

Some friends and I marched in the Columbus Pride Parade. It was long and hot, but honestly it was so inspiring see the turn out of THOUSANDS of people living and supporting their best rainbow lives! I can't wait to go again in 2024!

Speaking of parades I marched in the Renfair Parade almost every weekend with my faefam! I have made so many new friends - the fae are some of the most genuine, inspirational, authentic people out there and I'm just endlessly blessed to have their love and support and to have made such close friends through this.

And I made a tiktok for my cosplays and such! Something to do here and there when I have a little bit of free time - I'm having so much fun! 😂 🦊

Life is good, my heart is full... and I want to keep these memories and cherish them. So I guess I'm turning this into a modern scrapbook!

Braving the elements, all alone.

Hi, I hope you're having a beautiful day!

I'm new to tumblr, recently moved here from reddit, where I spent my days as a lurker. I thought to myself: let's expand some horizons. Tumblr seemed like a cozy place to share my ideas, so here we are.

Along with the decision to move came the inspiration to make some ttrpg characters, and in a fun way: by making a character for each song in my ever-growing Spotify playlist. I know I won't cover them all, but if something strikes me as interesting, I want to explore it. If I get the chance to improve my awful drawing skills, that's a nice bonus.

I don't know whether to make a separate post explaining all this, so for now let's just do the introductions here: this will not be a blog about optimizing dnd characters. 5e is a system very close to my heart (which sucks considering half of my players hate it passionately), so most oc's I post will likely be made using its framework (no homebrew, but all the official books are fair game), but as with pretty much all character ideas, they are fairly universal and can be adapted to many other systems. Additionally, I probably could optimize them - I'm not opposed to min-maxing, after all, but I think it's very liberating sometimes to actually try making sub-optimal characters. If you're good at the game (besides roleplaying, I'm just talking about combat here), it should pose an interesting challenge.

But we're finally getting to the actual topic. Today's song, for no particular reason, is The Darker The Weather // The Better The Man by MISSIO. I won't post the song lyrics, I'll just assume you either don't care or looked them up. If, in any of these posts, the song is on your playlist, please let me know, I won't feel as lonely in this sad world.

Our adventurer is Vishara, the Kalashtar (not really) Wizard. Let's start with her

Backstory

Vishara comes from a long lineage of warlocks living in the snowy tundra, employing the help of fiends and fey to fend off the freezing temperatures. From a very young age, she was the target of jealousy among her siblings, being treated by their grandfather as a prodigy, while rejecting the idea of selling her soul for power. She began studying the school of evocation, wanting to sever her family's dependence on the devilish magic. Once mother found out, she sent her away to study magic in the big city, protecting Vishara from her relatives.

At the academy, Vishara turned out to be a mediocre wizard at best, clearly showing the potential unique to her blood, yet not utilising it. The teachers were confused, but turned a blind eye to it, and let her pass a few years out of pity. She didn't care, and spent countless nights cramming the spell formulas, memorising the names of great wizards and witches. She made some friends, who recognised her for her kind soul, and after a few misadventures, forged a tight bond. Their group became known in the nearby villages as The Wands of Loyalty, beacuse even though they could physically be snapped in half like twigs, their camraderie proved unbreakable.

After obtaining the diplomma she wanted, Vishara said goodbye to the Wands and went back to her family home, having honed magic potent enough to melt the ice endangering any travelers. As a parting gift, the Wands gave her a robe with cantrip formulas written on it, and a few basic spell sigils woven into the fabric.

The journey was long, and even though Vishara could protect herself from harm, her frail body was tested to its limits. Upon finally arriving, she saw the family stronghold empty, devoid of life, and filled with corpses. She rushed over to her mother's room, only to find it empty and suspiciously clean, with the only thing out of place being a weird amulet she always saw her mom wear.

With a storm of questions boiling in her head, and no answers in sight, she was struck dumb, unable to form any response. That's when she felt it. The creeping chill. She heard the whisper, one her grandfather taught her to listen to, promising power, and information. A lonely spirit, just like her. Drawn to her inner flame, wanting to corrupt it. This was how Vishara met her new mentor.

Mechanics

Vishara is not really a Kalashtar. She could be anything from a human to an elf, it doesn't matter. We choose the Kalashtar race to represent Vishara's mentor - the being attached to her, the literal devil on her shoulder (well, it can be a fey or undead, but the point still stands). It protects her mind from outside interference ("it's occupied, dammit! Find your own mortal to possess!"), but sends her dreams of death and bitter cold, warning her that they will come true if she doesn't accept the deal, blah, blah blah. If the DM's cool, the Mind Link ability might also be the spirit, and we have to ask them to convey a message to someone. Pretty cool, right?

For stats, using the standard array, I'd pick something like this: 8 STR, 10 DEX, 12 (13) CON, 15 (17) INT, 14 WIS, 13 CHA. Vishara is a wizard, first and foremost, so the intelligence is a must. It can be a bit lower if you want to roleplay the 'bad wizard' thing, but we do want to help our party, not hinder it. The wisdom getting a 14 justifies our refusal to dabble with infernal powers, and possibly opens up the way to becoming a cleric, which might be appropriate. The charisma is our bloodline, and of course setting up a possible giving-in-to-temptation moment and multiclassing to warlock. The physical stats represent the fact that we're a wizard and we'll die from an average slap to the face.

As a character

Possible plot hooks for the DM: - A letter arrives, signed as Vishara's mother. - The remnants of her family come, seeking revenge, thinking it was Vishara that killed their relatives - The tundra is getting colder by the day. Someone should investigate, it may be a curse - Who made the first deal in the family? What was it about, and did it condemn all their children to being soulless? -A member of the Wands appears, they need help. Now.

As an NPC

Possible quests to give: - Escort her to a temple in the middle of the tundra, maybe lift the curse? - Vishara attacks the party, thinking it was them that killed her family. Nobody wants to take up his mantle, so the staff hires the party to find a graduate for the position.

Loot: - The coat with spell formulas written on it. It can be just a fancy spell focus, or maybe a multi-spell scroll, or just a coat with Glyphs of Warding. What's their trigger? Who knows.

The song relevance (imho)

The first thing that comes to my mind when listening to this song is 'loneliness'. The way the singer pronounces "Distant", and the music backing him, is just... surreal, evoking a scene of drowning in an ocean, slowly, as your vision grows darker and darker. I know the opinion of "edgy character bad", but it's such a shallow take I won't even try to refute it here. I'll just say, complicated characters make for compelling stories, and tragedies complicate things really well. The surrealness also plays nicely into Vishara's dreams, which this passage could be all about.

The pre-chorus sets the scene just as well, giving us an easy setting for most of Vishara's story.

The chorus breaks the subtlety, shielding itself with only a metaphor from being taken literally, word for word. It's filled with anger, and hope at the same time, which isn't that easy to pull off for one, and makes for great material in the gym. Determination. Theoretically we don't need to make a character to say this part to (like I did with the devil), but it's just such a perfect quote for a warlock in the making, that I couldn't resist. I love the class so much.

The second verse is less connected to Vishara, but, interestingly enough, I think the third and fourth lines are fantastic characterizations of her to-be patron, who (at least in my version) latches onto this mortal not to hurt them, but to connect to them.

Matthew 9 - 10

Welcome to Daily Audio Bible chronological, It's the 16th day of October and I am Jill and it's so good to be here with you as we journey Through the Bible together in chronological order every day. Until we get Through it together in a year, individually, collectively, and in community. Today we are gonna just settle in and be here for the next few minutes as we open our hearts, our eyes and our ears to see, receive and allow God to do all that He wants to say, do and speak to us Through his Word. Today, we're reading the book of Matthew chapters 9 and 10 today. Matthew Chapter 9. 

Commentary

Today we have a different translation, different interpretation of some of the same stories that we have read. Which is a little funny, because isn't it just like us, we all have different interpretation of the same truth. We all come At it Differently, with a different perspective, different angle, different interpretations, still very similar. Yet different. We do, however, in Chapter 10 officially meet the 12 Disciples or apostles. And then we hear that Jesus sends them out with Very specific instructions. And I love the final context of today. Anyone who receives you receives me, and anyone who receives me receives the Father who sent me. If you receive a prophet as one who speaks for God, you will be given the same reward as a prophet. And if you receive righteous people because of their righteousness, you will be given a reward like theirs. And if you give even a cup of cold water To one of the least of my followers, You will surely be rewarded. Jesus, Never, Ever leaves out the least of these. He goes after them, the Poor, The oppressed,  The marginalized, The least likely, And he instructs the disciples in the word today, And we can take that instruction and hear it ourselves. And go if it mattered to Jesus to tell the 12, That if you even Give a cup of cold water to one of the least Of my followers, You will surely be rewarded. This is just one example of many. It's just one of those hidden things that we scan over, we blaze over in the reading because we glaze and glaze over it sometimes In real life. Let somebody else take care of them. Let somebody else feed them. Let somebody else give them something to drink. I'm gonna humiliate myself for a second. I remember when Brian first started reading the Bible and we were having A conversation I remember where I was standing in the room of our old house talking about somebody that needed help and my response to him Was, God only helps those that are willing to help themselves. Oh, I shudder to say it. I actually said it because I actually believed it. And, He looked at me and said. Yeah, Where is that found at in the Bible? And I was sure it was in there somewhere. It had to be in there because it sounded good, you know, lets us off the hook. God's not going to help somebody that's not willing to help themselves. I'm happy and sad to report both at the same times that I have heard other people say that same statement. I know that I was not alone in my ignorance. However, we are still thinking That that is a thing. And if that is a thing, then honestly there is no need for the gospel. If God truly only helps those that are willing to help themselves.Then we are all in a bit of trouble. To be honest.

Prayer

So, father, we thank you for Your words today. We thank you for the reminder, That if we do for the least of these even a drink Of cold water, A cup of cold water and we will be Rewarded. But what if we could do it without expecting and looking for reward, but do it because You asked us to. It matters to you. It matters to the heart of who you are. We thank you, That you Thought of everybody. That you leave no one out Not even us. We pray this in the name of the Father and the Son, And the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Community Prayer Line

Good morning. It's Heather in Santa Barbara. I have praise report. I went to Nashville to get my braces off. I'm doing air quotes. What ended up happening was I went to a friend's church that I would never have gone to, and the pastor that ended up speaking was not the pastor, nor has anybody ever seen this pastor that spoke. And the take away was Heather, if you speak as if you were homeless Jobless, destitute, depressed, completely just strung out from no sleep, Then that's what you are going to have eventually, and the Lord is going to work against you eventually. Mind your words. And I just was broken over my words and. After church, I went up to pray with the pastor and took communion, And I felt energized. I was up at 2:00 in the morning. I'd have flight all day. It was 11:30 at night. And I was still energized, went to bed, got so much sleep because the house that I slept in is insulated. And I thought, oh, you know, that's that's just the reason why I slept. So as the days have gone on, I've been home for three days. I feel released as if there has been a wet blanket released from my path and walking into it, I'm no longer being held back and nothing has changed except I come back to my uninsulated house and I'm sleeping. So thank you Lord, for convicting me that my sleep was my idol, my health was my idol, my job, my money, my everything was my idol. And it's been a couple years since then, Just felt really funky and I felt like a New Girl. So new wine, new wine skins. Thank you Lord.

Good morning, DABC, this is under construction and I am just hoping please if you guys could please pray for both myself and my other half that we both find.Or that he finds a good job and that I find a good second job for the weekends. I'm not having a lot of luck, but I know that God is faithful and you know, he has always put me in the most amazing situations with different positions. I pray that you would just settle us in this season. For we are standing in need of you. And so God, I pray that you would just begin to visit us in our dreams, begin to visit us at our workplace, begin to visit us and our family life. Just in everything that we do, that God that your presence will be known and felt, I pray God that we would begin to hear you more clearly in our everyday of life. It will hear you leading and guiding us, hear you speaking on to us on which way to go, which way not to go, God. I just pray that you would just be so big in our lives, and I pray that your spirit will begin to consume our flesh, that we would let go our old ways of thinking and embrace your way of thinking That fear is not consuming us. That doubt is not consuming us. That lack is not consuming us. But we trust that you will provide all of our needs according to your riches and glory, that you have not given us a spirit of fear but of power and of love and of a sound mind. I just really really like Amber.

Aside from being the first character you meet, she's just so passionate about her job and town even though we're aware of how other characters feel about the Knights or even what the Knights themselves think (+ angry tsundere Diluc). She wholeheartedly helps you in you journey and teaches gliding, the activity she's so proud of. Everytime I read the signboards about your missing sister and the "please contact Amber if you have any info!" I just feel like I have a real friend in Mondstad. Even when you go and tell her you're leaving she wishes you a good journey (this while you guys are having a first/last meal together) and I was genuinely sad watching it lmao

I know I'm probably going to have side/world quests with her still but as far as main adventure goes I love her and I think our interaction with her is heavily based on equal grounds (children, probably same age, learning things and going on adventures together) which makes her feel closer to me

It saddens me that's so hard to have good damage with her bow since others get much better pay off and aiming takes a bit of time and getting hit takes me off aiming and I just grrRRR

Thoughts on The Good Place finale:

My reaction throughout:

I knew the finale was going to be about them going through the door and I thought I was ready, but I wasn't! This is supposed to be a comedy, damn it! We're in the Sad Place tonight, everyone.

Jason being the first to go through the door was something I wasn't expecting (in fact, I actually thought they were all going to go through together), but it everything about it, from his going away party to him explaining how he knew, to the necklace he made for Janet... It was beautiful! It was also really sweet how he didn't want to go through until he found it, and if that's not true love, then I don't know what is! I also thought it was great how he learned to be Jianyu without even trying; it was like everything was coming full circle for him.

Tahani finally getting the love she deserves was great, and her becoming an architect was even more so. I seriously wouldn't mind her getting a spin-off one day before she too passes on. I also loved how Michael gave her a little bowtie of her own.

The Chidi and Eleanor scenes were also great, and as someone who isn't that big on Dan Brown, I think my favorite line from him this episode would be the garbage books thing. The Athens and Paris scenes were also beautiful and I cried for Eleanor after she let Chidi go, especially with the "it's what I owe to you" line and her telling him to leave while she's asleep. I'm glad Chidi at least left her a parting gift before doing so though; that was really bittersweet (also, can we please have those as official merch?)

Eleanor really has come a long way, hasn't she? Her scene with Mindy really highlighted this most of all, I think. And seeing her go through the door after everything she's done, completing her journey and watching old friends depart... I think Jason said it best this episode: "the air inside my lungs was the same as the air outside of me." And yeah, that's exactly what it felt like for me. It was... peaceful. And to know that apparently humans become little voices after passing through, helping others (or at least that's the impression that I got)... I think it's fitting.

And now, Michael. Oh, how far he's come as well. From trying to torment four humans to helping them to becoming the architect of the real Good Place, to finally becoming an actual human. I cried tears of joy for him, especially seeing what his life was like on Earth afterwards: him getting a doggo and naming him Jason, learning to play guitar... Also, you can't tell me the character ends marrying the guitar teacher played by Mary Steenburgen. It's only fitting, folks! I wouldn't mind him getting his own spin-off, either. Seriously, there's alot of potential there.

And just a few sidenotes here: It's great that even Mindy gets a resolution to her story and someone please make Derek the new galaxy brain meme! It's what I was thinking the entire time he was on screen. Shaun trying not to sound evil was also one of the funniest thing ever, as was seeing the passing of the Jeremy Bearimys and especially Michael trying to pass through the door. The Doorman getting his own real frog was so cute, and I loved seeing the photos of Team Cockroach Michael's office, as well as his and Janet's friendship one last time.

Just everything about this finale was sweet and funny and sad and just all around bittersweet.

Getting to see this show has been an amazing experience, and it's taught me so much about philosophy and morality that I probably would've never thought about on my own before. And even though I'm sad it's ending, I'm also glad it got to go on its own terms with a satisfying conclusion.

So, with all that being said:

MY BLOG IS TURING FIVE AND I'M FREAKING OUT SO WE'RE GOING TO CELEBRATE AND I'M GOING TO GIVE SOME SHOUTOUTS TO SOME COOL PEOPLE

So ummm???? My blog is turning five??? On the 11th?? And I'm so confused??? How is that even possible?? Five years is such a long time for me. Five year olds can walk. And talk. And eat. My little baby is growing up and bro I'm so confused??? I have nooooo idea how I could have had this little space for that long. I remember when I first started my blog. And when I changed the name. And when I got insta. And when I did my first blogger collaboration. And when I did my first brand collab. And when I really started doing youtube. Blogging gives me so so so much joy. It has given me so many friends and opportunities and just confidence that I wouldn't have otherwise. My life has been pretty stressful with school lately and some things have been getting me down. I can always come back to blogging though and this amazing community. I love y'all so so so much and I hope you guys know that. :) If you don't already know to celebrate this occasion I'm going to try to do a bunch of collabs this month! I already have a couple lined up but if you want to collaborate please email me at nabileve@gmail!! I would love to work with you! For this post to start off the month I thought it would be fun to list some peeps I love and that have super duper helped me in my blogging journey. :) One side note before we get started though, my schedule is going to be super off this month! Lexie- Lexie was one of the first bloggers I ever found and she's so cool!! She's one of the only bloggers that I've known from the beginning who has actually kept up a consistent blog. She's super sweet and I'm happy I get to call her my friend. :)

Abbie-  Abbie is one of the coolest peeps ever. I absolutely  love her blog and her positivity and her music and just everything about her pretty much haha.

Kenzie- If you don't know this cutie you are missing out. I did a collab with her a couple weeks ago and I'm kind of obsessed with her. She regularly comments on my blog which always makes me happy and I've screamed at her about books and she somehow still doesn't hate me and even joins in so like, that sounds like a great human to me. 

Kristian- I met Kristian on insta and she's a super coolio blogger friend of mind. I've been talking to her a bit less lately which makes me sad but she's still super duper cool and also a really good writer?? Like she's really good?? 

Dani- Another old friend who is actually still posting!! There was one summer where I talked to Dani like every day and it was great. I found Dani when she was a little baby blogger and I like to think I maybe helped her a tiny bit haha. 

Mckenzie- I talked with Mckenzie at the same time I was close with Dani. At that time though we called them Issy and pronouns have changed multiple times it's like a whole thing haha. We all had a group chat and we talked like a lotttttt. Lots of memes and laughs and blogging talk. 

Rukiya and Noor- These are two separate people but they kind of have the same experience with me so I'm putting them together haha. Basically when I first found young bloggers it was Rukiya, Noor, and Lexie. I looked up to them a lottttttt and after some time and me being the little annoying person I am they actually started talking to me. Like what???? I know it's weird. So yeah we were friends and we talked regularly online. Noor was like low key a god in the little blogger community I was in and I thought she was so cool and all of this cool stuff went on. Then they just kind of evaporated from the face of the earth?? And it makes me sad?? Like old blogger friends please come back???  

Gray Marie- This girly regularly comments on my blog which is soooo great because not that many people comment???? Like I'm happy for all of my followers and I do get comments which I'm grateful for but I might like the people who comment a tiny bit more. Just a tiny bit. She also has an awesome cute blog that I love reading and just her general aura is so fun. 

Andrea- Andrea also comments on my blog (do you see I like people who comment??) and I love her blog. Plus she's supes funny. I was just reading the titles of her blog when I was thinking of what to say and they're so funny???? How can I make my blog posts funny?? Give me tips??? Cause I'm bad at that??? 

Lanie- UPDATE ON MY LIFE I HAVE OFFICIALLY SEEN LOVE SIMON AND LANIE IS THE ONE WHO MADE THAT HAPPEN SO LIKE SHE'S GREAT. We did a little screenshare thing cause she has the movie (may or may not have been illegal but it's fine) and I squealed like the entire time?? Probs not good?? Might have made Lanie scared because I make noise a lot?? But it's fine?? 

Vanessa- I've known Vanessa for a while actually and then I think she disappeared and came back??? Maybe??? I'm like not actually sure??? ANYWAY THOUGH she is so crazy nice and sweet and just ahhh I love her. Recently she sent me this random letter that made my day and it had some tea and was just awesome. If you ever want to make me happy just send me a random letter. I am so cool with it. 

Ann- I recently found Ann but she is so nice!! And she comments on my blog like a lot and as we have established that is the way to my heart. 

Rosie- I said this in the interview I did with her but I just think Rosie is so cool!! She comments on my blog, has a freaking amazing and so professional blog herself, and just also seems to put out coolness into the world?? I don't know??? 

Abigail- I've known abigail since the beginning era so that's like two years or something. Oh my gosh that's so weird!! She just recently started college (all of my blogging friends are leaving me for college like why must they turn into adults I don't approve) and that is so weird to me!!!! Like she was just starting high school or something!! What?? I absolutely love her posts and her writing and everything is just so good. We recently sent letters to each others and hers was supes cute and yeah Abigail is just cool. 

Olivia- Olivia is almost more of an insta friend then a blogging friend but she does have an awesome blog!! I found her on insta when I started and I love everything she puts out into the world!! Her outfits are amazing, she sometimes talks about political stuff, and she is also just soooo positive which I love so so much.    

That took me so long to write like y'all better appreciate this. If you are not on this list but also read my blog or we're friends or we just know each other somehow YOU ARE STILL SO COOL LIKE SHOUT OUT TO YOU FOR SUPPORTING THE LITTLE CRAZY HUMAN THAT I AM. I said this earlier but my blog makes me so happy and it is because of you guys. :)
