Previously on Living a Nightmare;

Riley received an AMAZING chance card and jumped all the way to the top of the comedy career! He quickly became an overnight sensation and is now a one star celebrity! This is definitely Riley's biggest accomplishment and it means we'll have to spend a lot less time at work as the legacy progresses which I'm happy about!

Immediately after being promoted, Riley was flown out to Del Sol Valley to film his very FIRST comedy special titled "Hot and Heavy". It was a resounding success! "Hot and Heavy" was one of the most popular comedy albums of the entire year, and Riley has the plaques and posters to prove it. His life has skyrocketed in a very short amount of time. He's got a beautiful girlfriend, a job that he loves and grand ideas for what the future holds for him.

Monica decided she was ready for more and autonomously asked Riley if she could move in! They're both so infatuated with each other and don't want to waste any more time not being together.

Under the cut you can find some a lot more info on the gameplay aspect of the legacy and my future plans for the Burns family!

First of all, I had to extend the short lifespans just a LITTLE bit. Short is TOO short y'all, I can't. I still made them shorter than the normal lifespan. Lifespans are as follows:

Baby: 2 days

Infant: 6 days

Toddler: 8 days

Child: 11 days

Teen: 14 days

Young Adult: 18 days

Adult: 25 days

Elder: 8 days

We'll play out this first generation with these lifespans and see how it goes, I may have to adjust it a bit but I'm not sure. I really did not realize how difficult this challenge was going to be, because I get attached to my gameplay sims very fast. They're all gonna DIE so quickly, pray for me. I'm honestly excited to see how much progress we can make in a short amount of time though.

As far as future plans, I'm completely over Strangerville and it's annoying NPC's. I did not beat the Strangerville story and I was using a mod to toggle the story on and off, and sometimes I would forget to toggle it and it's just so frustrating. there should ABSOLUTELY be an option in the gameplay settings to turn the story off.

We are officially going to be moving to Chestnut Ridge! I figured it would be fun to try out some horse ranch gameplay and own a huge ranch. We're going to be taking out a loan in order to afford it, and Riley is going to keep working for a while as a top comedian before he retires and dedicates all of his time to the ranch. We're going to be attempting to survive by selling nectar, breeding horses/doing competitions, and farming! Monica may also pick up crocheting or cross stitching as a side hobby. Maybe canning?! I haven't done any canning at all yet! I know it makes little to no sense for them to be moving to a huge ranch from a very rundown home, but since Riley shot to stardom so fast I like to think he realized the first thing he wanted was a nicer home.

I think it fits Riley PERFECTLY. He's always wanted to make his own nectar and being a country boy at heart, Chestnut Ridge won't feel too far from home. Monica is also an animal enthusiast and VERY excited to get some animals, so it's going to be great for both of them. They've been doing some house hunting lately and they've almost found the perfect place. I've already moved some of their friends to Chestnut Ridge and given all of the original Chestnut Ridge townies little makeovers! I also added a couple more sims to the world just to fill it up a bit more. Riley and Monica will be making TONS of friends I'm sure. There's a bunch of couples ready to have babies at the same time as them which I'm excited about, gotta make sure our kids have friends!

I think that's it for now, but I did just want to say thank you so much to anyone who shows any kind of interest in following along with my gameplay. I know I've been widlly inconsistent and have rarely been posting gameplay, but I truly believe that's about to change as I dive back into this legacy and get things rolling again!

The sleepy town of Wormwood

A powerful witch has cast a spell over the town, isolating it from the rest of the world. Perpetually 1956, it exists in a stasis, unchanging over the years. No one has ever questioned the way things are, never thought about why nothing seems to change from year to year. Will anyone ever break free of the curse and bring Wormwood into the present or will it forever remain the same? I really love this hood and despite having so many issues with it, I still love playing it (and so does @nonsensical-pixels who is the one that inspired me to dig around to get most of the original files back because she was making me jealous). It's a little more silly but there are some pretty dark undertones as well. I know there's a couple issues but they really aren't a problem if you play the hood as a standalone or with non-PV subhoods. There is an overarching mystery/plot :) Who really is Moira and...is she really that bad? Is she actually evil or is there more to it? What's going on in the Moore house and why is there a strange smell wafting from it? The Tegan's sure are an odd bunch, is the picture perfect family of blonde hair and blues eyes a coincidence or something more sinister? Will Olive Specter finally find some good luck and love in Ocean Grisly? Sam Spyers is determined to figure out what's happening in Wormwood, but can she figure it out before it's too late?

There are 3 files included: Required, Highly Suggested, and Wormwood itself. The Required folder contains various CC that I used, almost entirely from Michelle's recolors from MTS (merged) + the Bespoke build set (merged), the (optional) Prison mod from Simlogical is not required but sort of ruins the immersion for two families, there are various plants from Parsimonious, fences from Smug Tomato Basket, more plants from the Castaway conversion site, the Sims 2 store sets, and unfortunately a really old merged buy mode folder that I genuinely do not remember what's in it other than a ton of Veranka's stuff. I don't think I used too much from this folder and most of it has the creator in the item descriptions. In all, it's about 1GB of CC, so it's not exactly that much. CC lite, I guess? Most of it is just to get the general vibe of the hood and can be replaced and even then, the bulk of it is simply recolors or bespoke wallpapers. I used this template from enchantedw0lf on MTS to create the hood. Townies may or may not be bald. No, I will not explain. As the first hood I've ever made, it has been through hell and back. I actually completely finished a more complex and involved version of it before managing to corrupt it due to a simple misclick in simpe and thinking I had a backup but not actually :):):) Then entirely remade it from scratch again but it was a hacked down version with fewer sims and simpler plot lines (rifp cowboy farmer who secretly wanted to be a pretty ballerina and had a room full of mannequins facing a stage where he'd dance for them). All this to say that I didn't make this hood 100% correctly and it has some...quirks. When I remade it, I forgot to disable stealth hoods (you'd think I'd have learned my lesson from this when I decided to make Natosi later lol), and I simply can't be bothered to delete townies n stuff. I don't have the energy or willpower to clean it up. The hood itself is still very pretty and fun to play, I think the odd quirks actually fit in perfectly and helps give the vibes I wanted for it!

🦋Digital Dollhouse Makeover Challenge: A 12 Day CAS challenge all about makeovers!🦋

Hello Simblr! Since joining the community like a month ago I've been really interested in CAS Challenges, and while participating in other people's challenges, I got inspired to make my own.

This challenge mostly focuses on dressing up or reworking existing sims rather than creating new ones, so it's good for players who have a lot of sims they're already attached to. I also largely wanted to avoid the typical "nerd girl takes off her glasses" type of movie makeover and instead tried to come up with prompts that involve a different type of transformation than just "'''''ugly'''''' to '''''pretty''''''".

RULES: not many tbh. Do all 12 or pick and choose, do them out of order, just have fun! However, make sure to include Before and After photos for each makeover!

Take one of your favorite sims and make them over into the complete opposite of their usual aesthetic!

Humanize an occult sim, or occult-ify a human sim!

Imagine that a "What Not To Wear"/"Queer Eye"-type show exists in your Sim universe-- make a before-and-after of a sim that got made over on that show! (It's up to you whether the makeover is actually any good— you remember those old 2000s makeover shows that made everyone dress so boring, right?).

Download an "ugly to beauty challenge" sim from the gallery, but give them a makeover that embraces their existing features instead of completely changing them.

Take a randomly-generated townie in a wacky outfit and try to make them over in a way that maintains their general appearance and vibe! Refine their outfit, make them more cohesive, adapt them into your own style-- but keep them recognizable as the sim you started with.

Put a sim in drag!

Imagine what would happen if two of your sims gave each other makeovers.

Make over one of your LEAST favorite premade townie's original EA version without changing any genetics! Skin details, hair, clothing, defaults, etc. are fair game, but you can't change any sliders on their face or body.

Take one of your earliest Sims you have saved (a sim you made years ago, or whenever you were just getting started with TS4) and update them into your current style! If you don't have any of your old sims to update, remake and update a sim from a previous Sims game!

Show a sim who's had a physical change that mirrors some sort of development they've had as a person/character. I.E. they started dressing different after a major life event, made a change reflecting a change in personality, etc. Use an existing storyline from one of your saves or make up a hypothetical plotline/backstory!

Give a sim a fairytale transformation like Cinderella.

Dress one of your sims in a randomly generated aesthetic. (Generator 1 / Generator 2 / Generator 3 )

Time for a recap of the last twelve months! It's basically my tradition at this point. This year was a weird one. I'm not even gonna get into real life issues. It sure was something and I'm going into 2023 with no energy and zero expectations, lol. But with this mindset, I can only be pleasantly surprised, right? Or...the world will show me that when you think it can't get any worse, it will.

Anyway, simblr stuff! This is the year I started drifting away from tumblr. It makes me sad, but really, it just isn't the same as it was when I joined. The interaction is not what I wish to get so I'm simply moving to places where I feel like I'm actually heard and seen. Idk. I've tried a few times to "be the change I wanna see" but it's hard to change stuff around here. But oh well, to each their own. I'll probably stick around, even if I hang out more somewhere else and what you see are mostly queued posts. And, well, if twitter burns down, which I wouldn't be surprised if it did, you know I'll fully come back here. I love this hellsite. Genuinely. It makes me mad but I love it.

But I still love you guys. TS3 discord and a few other people who are not in that discord, I do seriously love you.

So, what was happening on this blog this year?

I was still posting my previous BC! Well, I was finishing it. Vi became a parent and hadn't become a cheating jerk yet. 😅

*this* is Vi's cheating jerk era. I still feel bad about how I resolved the whole thing, it was too rushed. I guess I was focusing more on the gameplay part and the NSB rules and less on whether their actions are logical? Prince shouldn't have come back to him, that's the hill I'll die on :D I know, I know, NSB rules and all, but he shouldn't have.

We're slowly moving onto Bloom's very short generation, as well as gen 3 of my lepacy. It's Ginevra's time to shine, but first, we spent a lot of time with the winners of Axel and August's BC.

Bambi and Candy are born, as well as the BC babies. Loads of baby cuteness in April on this blog. Oh and Ross flourishes in his babysitter era. Well, he's always been a babysitter to his descendants, but I feel like this is where he 100 % accepts it 😂

Gins' era truly starts now (why do I keep saying era in this recap lmao). I had a lot of fun playing in Twinbrook again and Ginevra and Lori were so great. <3

Alongside my lepacy (hi Elias & other gen 4 babies), I started posting the pink gen of NSB and also, my 100 Baby Challenge! I still can't believe I actually did that, and that I completed it in like two months only. Wow. What. I mean, yeah, I hyperfocused on it, but still. How did I do that.

Again, gen 3 of lepacy and gen 7 of NSB, not much to say here. As for playing, I mostly just played the baby challenge. Oh! And Maeve's BC, of course.

Ohh, and July was the month when I decided to dive into the wonderful sims community on twitter. Probably one of my best decisions this year as I made many great friends there...🥰🥰

Gen 3 ends and Sawyer is ready to take over Bridgeport but he has to wait for a bit. Pastel enters the blog and her bonding with Ross is seriously one of my most favourite things. I didn't think of this at first when I was playing, it only came to me later when I was posting the generation, but he definitely grew fond of her because she reminds him of Sunset so much ;-;

Good news: Bambi and Atsuko get married. Bad news: Ross and Caleb break up. *sigh* There's so much to unpack with their breakup storyline. Yes it makes sense that they'd hit a few bumps on the road, yes it makes sense that some of them would be bad, but...deep down, the breakup only happened because of my insecurities and lowkey being afraid of using a townie in my stories. At least I kinda got over that this fall (thank you twitter moots).

More good news: I'm finally posting the BC!!

I finished posting the 100BC and...yeah this was Maeve's month. October was also very vampiric, but I'll probably mention that in a separate recap (if I do a separate recap haha), as this one only focuses on my regular daily content (legacies and such)

In November, we saw the funniest twist to ever happen in my BCs. Sorry River :D Aaand we also have the winner of Maeve's BC! I can't wait for you all to see them again in the legacy. Next year, hopefully.

Sawyer's time to shine has come. Well, not really, his siblings are constantly stealing it. Don't be surprised if he one day, you know, steals their organs and sells them.

Oh, and it's also TS3!Ross's time to shine. Because of course it is. I knew I needed to use his TS3 self somewhere, and all things considered, this felt like a perfect time for that.

December was also the month I started posting videos on youtube. I'm sorry if I'm annoying about that, but I just enjoy it so much. Never thought I'd say that. So, if you haven't yet, feel free to check it out (and subscribe maybe? 🥺). I'm hoping to do some fun stuff next year.

What's in store for 2023? I'll probably talk about that later, but to put it simply, I think this blog will be stuck with NSB and lepacy.

What’s your favorite Sims death?

When they get squished by a satellite while cloud or stargazing, although getting eaten by a cowplant is the runner up.

Alpha CC or Maxis Match?

I have no coherent style. If it's pretty and I like it, I use it. I typically like to keep it more cartoony and away from the uncanny photoskinned stuff, though. That legitimately scares me. ૮₍˶Ó﹏Ò ⑅₎ა

Do you cheat your sims weight?

No, but fitness is important to me personally IRL due to mental health benefits, so I like to keep them healthy too.

Do you move objects?

Totally, all the rugs, curtains and blinds have to be perfectly centered.

Favorite Mod?

My favorite gameplay mod is this one but the one that has saved my sanity is this one. I don't use any adult-oriented mods, I even leave the censors on TBH- I have no desire to see pixel butt.

First Expansion/Game Pack/Stuff Pack?

My first game was The Sims 2 base game! The big one, with the four discs. I still have it, actually.

Do you pronounce live mode like aLIVE or LIVing?

Living.

Who’s your favorite sim that you’ve made?

I'm a big D&D nerd, so I made one of my characters as a sim. He's a dryad and his name is Wisteria Vines. I'll be re-uploading him soon. :3

Have you made a simself?

Yes, she is always friends with all of her neighbors, but I'm going to be doing a legacy with her for the first time soon since I've never done that. ^^;'

Which is your favorite EA hair color?

Blond, it's so pretty!

Favorite EA hair?

I really love the vampire/countess hair from NIghtlife, but I use a mod/replacement to remove the headpiece. Before that, it was the hair that Angela and Lilith start the game with.

Favorite life stage?

Toddlers, I love kids! I'd have some real ones if I could.

Are you a builder or are you in it for the gameplay?

I love building and giving the houses as much detail as possible with just Maxis items, but I really love the raising multiple generations aspect too, so both.

Are you a CC creator?

Yes, but only recently. I prefer making Sims characters for other people to play with but I also really enjoy making eyes, I just love eyes in general. They are the windows to the soul, after all!

Do you have any Simblr friends or a Sim Squad?

I have a couple of Sims friends! I actually met my longtime online friend @littleballerina through The Sims 2 when we were in middle school. We've been friends for 16 years this year. @furbyq is pretty cool, too! I'm up for making more Sims friends as long as they don't act creepy. :P

Do you have any sims merch?

Nope. I'm hoping to change that, but I don't want people to think I like The Sims 4 LOL. Gross!

Do you have a YouTube for sims?

Err, kinda? I plan to just put a bunch of game-related (Animal Crossing, Life is Strange, Sally Face, Undertale, yada, yada...) junk on it. I plan to make Jaydee-esque Sims music videos over the winter because it'll be freezing this year. I haven't posted anything yet, though. T^T

How has your “Sims style” changed throughout your years of playing?

Just a little bit, I went from entirely out-of-the-box-vanilla to vanilla with sprinkles and now my Sims look kinda like they're from Silent Hill 2 or something. I'm pretty sure James Sunderland is actually running around in the townie pool somewhere.

How long have you had Simblr?

The end of 2017, I think? Probably better to just go with 2018. Life whacked me over the head with the responsibilities stick so I was just recently able to come back after 3.5 years.

How do you edit your pictures?

I don't, really? Aside from resizing them and brightening them a little, I mean. I just use the default photos app that comes with my computer.

What expansion/ gamepack is your favorite?

My favorite expansion pack is totally The Sims 2: Pets. I can finally live out my dream of being a crazy cat lady!

Hey there! I've been hard at work on my next CC pack and, in short, it's going to take a lot longer than the previous ones (I'm giving myself a soft deadline at 2 weeks to keep myself from an unhealthy level of time-crunch). It might be ready sooner that I'm expecting, but I figure I might as well keep this blog up to date on my goings-on.

I've only made 3 proper CC character packs so far, and I plan to make several more, but you might reasonably be wondering why. It's 2023, I feel like most people are kind of over Sims 4/MHA/at least the mixture of the two for a while now.

I got into the game after EA made it free to play, and I honestly don't love the idea of paying for expansions and other nonsense. That said, without these, Sims 4 just isn't that fun or interesting, so I've gotten quite into the whole CC thing. It's a nice alternative to paying a bunch of money for off-brand Stranger Things and Star Wars and whatever. But it's been very limiting as well.

CC opens the horizons for playing Sims 4 with a wide variety of characters and kind of keeps the excitement going without needing any more real juicy Sims stuff. It's honestly just fun to see these little guys doing their thing sometimes because, like, that's Todoroki learning how to cook, Kaminari is learning to play guitar and talking about music with Jiro. It's fun.

But when that reality breaks, it feels kinda weird, violating even. Like who invited some guy named Derek to this world and why is he knocking on the door? I know a lot of people feel this way, but random townies are kinda just terrible. And the only way I know of to stop them from spawning every time I play is to get 80 non-random Sims and place them into the world, which brings us to the issue I'm trying to solve.

There are not even nearly 80 MHA CC characters available, no matter how hard you look. There's around 50-60 that I've ever been able to find with any sort of CC (usually just hair) and I figure someone might as well make that last push. I'd invite anyone else to join in and make it to 80 with me if you like, that's my goal. Not to say I'll be finished then, but that's when I will consider myself to have been successful at this.

With that in mind, there's several characters in particular that I'd really like to include in that total, and a few who haven't appeared yet in any official MHA games. I'm relatively new to blender and I'm doing my best to advance my knowledge as quickly as I can to make these characters as good as I possibly can.

The next big release I'll be putting up here is going to have 4 of these characters, and I hope that should help close the gap a bit faster. Cheers!

Hi Keoni! I really love your bacc, the sims are so cute ans lovely and fun to watch. I want to play a bacc since like forever but I just can't seem to commit to them for long. I'm currently playing an uberhood, which really entertains me and I love the pre-made Sims but I really also want my OWN Sims. How do you stick to you bacc Sims? Have you got other hoods you play too? How did you give your Sims so much personality? I also tried ros in my uberhood but that was overwhelming me a little 😅 thank you for giving tips, if you choose to.

This has been sitting in my drafts for way to long, my apologies.

I've played with premades, and some are very dear to me, but I prefer playing with my own sims :) I tried playing ROS with an uberhood, too, and it didn’t work for me either. But I really enjoy playing with my own ROS. Probably because I’ve been really picky about the challenges I put in it. So whatever it ROS, I know I’ll have fun playing it. Fun in the broadest sense of the word, of course XD

I don't really have that much experience in playing this many sims at the same time. So I'm really happy you think they all have personality, because that is something I tend to worry about. I’m not confident enough to give you tips, but I can tell you how I do it, and hopefully some of it will work for you, too :)

Personally, the best way to stick with my own sims, was to figure out what drew me to the premades, and incorporate that in my own sims. What I liked most about the Pleasantview premades is how everyone is sort of interconnected. So I have my Angler’s Bay sims interact with each other as much as possible. I favor relationships between playables over relationships with townies, but ultimately my sims decide, of course. 

I think that’s another big part: I like to pretend my sims have agency. I know they don’t, it’s just programming and mods. And ROS, in my case. But by pretending they are actually the ones calling the shots, they become more “real” to me, making me more invested in their happiness.  Evil ROS is a big help in this case, because it forces me to figure out what would motivate my sim to do [thing described in challenge]. Which really helps me understanding their character better. 

For me, the easiest way to give my sims a defining personality, is finding a few things in their character that define them the most and exaggerate that. Like, Ivar Volden has a bit of a mean streak, so he’s short-tempered and prone to insults when he speaks. Kieran Burkett has 2 nice points, but is also a family sim, so he’s nice to the people he loves, but has no patience and very little empathy. Zoey DeLuna is pretty shy, so I made her a bit insecure. 

I hope this helps a bit. Have fun playing your own sims! Or the premades! One is certainly not better than the other. What matters the most, is you having fun while playing :)

Disguiser: Lychee Dragon Cookie

-Having preferred to take on the form of the curious, young Mangosteen Cookie, the Violet Dragon has changed her ways of trickery and makes her disguises more... gruesome.

How gruesome are we talking? Instead of just mere illusionry, Lychee will mold pieces of her fallen victims to herself in order to appear innocent tangibly for a potential run-in with Almond Cookie, or even worse, that snooty little daughter of his...

And cast a glamour on the corpse of the actual victim to make it appear as her until the moon rises and the spell can wear off and the body can be disposed of.

However, she will still cast a glamour on herself to still appear as the whole Cookie she wishes to take up the guise of.

Once his snake minions bring back information on a potential victim, he relays the message to his fellow Mafia Cookies and recommends that they target the Cookie in question so, once they turn up dead, the Town will be able to see his handiwork in the form of their rewritten last will.

Framer: Affogato Cookie

-Earning the nickname, "The Crimson Dusk," Lilac Cookie has a knack for inducing a hypnotic effect on Cookies that are to become his unlucky, unsuspecting victims.

Not only does Lilac possess his typical razor-sharp chakrams and soothing flowery scent, but he now has the ability to plant memories in an unconscious Cookie's mind for when they wake up, ranging from supposedly being attacked and healed when nobody else visited their home, except for him, to apparently going out of their way and either attacking or role-blocking another Cookie...

When in reality, it was the victim who was mentally assaulted by the Cookie as elusive and deadly as the night...

Janitor: Hydrangea Cookie

-As the attendant to the renowned Lotus Dragon, Hydrangea Cookie is well-known for keeping up a dainty, cleanly appearance at all times, even in these unforeseen and downright grisly times.

However, nowadays, she isn't opposed to getting her hands dirty, literally, even while she's disposing of evidence for the good of the Mafia and sweeping up a crumbled Cookie, hiding any indication of the deceased's role.

After all, Cookies are bound to get soggy at one point or another, now aren't they? Even if it's not by water, but from their own jam...

Ambusher: Scorpion Cookie

-Combine her and Lilac, and you've got a pair to be reckoned with, even amongst your own ranks of the Mafia...

"Stealth" is practically her middle name and the basis of her job description; she lies in wait by a target's house, stinger full to the brim with venom, and waits...

Then strikes at the first person she sees at the front porch, even if it may not be the homeowner. She can even break through tough Bodyguard vests and dissolve the Trapper's creations.

However, any that visit the targeted household will be notified of her presence, and her intent...

Best pray to the Witches that she be the only one visiting tonight...

Godfather: Dark Choco Cookie

-Forget about the throne; instead of a prince, he's a lord...

A crime lord...

Having lost his place in line for the throne of the Dark Cacao Kingdom, this fallen member of royalty has pursued a different way of being the epitome of leadership.

-As Godfather Choco's right-hand man (no pun intended), this Cookie and Cake hybrid does a good portion of the dirty work. Specifically, he's basically the hitman that takes out any target Choco demands of him to eliminate.

Except, there's a problem. If he wants to crumble someone in particular, and it's not who Choco wishes to rid of, then his plans are dashed.

Maybe if he forgets to act on one specific, light-hearted Cookie, then he will...

Consort: Rose Cookie

-It certainly takes two to tango, and Rose Cookie loves having this as her personal motto.

On par with Kumiho as a master of distraction, the dancer is more... thorny with her methods of occupation. And no, she isn't able to kill, just flirtatiously make victims unaware and nothing more...

And, like Kumiho, she is also susceptible to patrons who... despise interruptions if she isn't careful...

Consigliere: Lotus Dragon Cookie

-Already knowing every Cookie's greatest wish, the Blue Dragon knows every bit about their being, heart and soul and all...

Their duties specifically involve scoping out pieces of evidence that directly give away their target's role. It could be a trinket they carry, a catchphrase under their breath, or a mere force of habit.

But they already knew all that, too... it's their specialty.

Blackmailer: Rougefort Cookie

-Calling cards? Forget about it!

This thief of the night instead stuffs his envelopes to the brim with evidence: message records, receipts, anything you could imagine to stir the pot of the victim's darkest secrets...

How he got ahold of these top-secret items that should have been buried in the past, nobody knows! Nobody except for him, of course...

It varies ig.. sometimes I'll make a spouse, sometimes it'll be a childhood friend, or a made over townie they randomly took an interest in.. a BC?! Aha.. there's no real pattern. I kinda like to make over a few ppl and let the ww attraction system tell me who they're into 👀 and once the heir becomes a teen I randomise their attraction preferences to try and mix it up! I've been thinking lately maybe I'll start asking some moots to make em for me since that could be fun but idk yet!

It's been a while since I've updated this blog, but I felt now was a good time to get back into it. I restarted my decade challenge after I lost my last save file, and with all the new packs and updates we've gotten over the last few years, it gave my Sims a little more variety when it comes to dressing for each decade.

In my last play through, I used mods and CC, but my computer got a virus, so I decided to delete everything and play "vanilla." It makes finding pieces that fit the earlier decades a bit tough, but with lots of research and creativity, I managed to give my Sims a full wardrobe.

The first decade in the challenge is the 1890s. This was a pain in the ass, but I lucked out and found as many items as close to decade-appropriate as possible. Thank goodness for the Get Famous pack. Also, the fun thing about the wardrobe for this decade is that you can use it for the 1900s as well. That made dressing my Sims for the tun of the century so much easier.

Landcaster Legacy Gen 7 Update #32

Dear Diary, It's officially term break. Since Janie is in Mt. Komorebi the band isn't meeting for practice. I've been trying to write some songs for us, but I can't seem to come up with anything. I hope this writer's block goes away soon. -Violet

Violet spent most of her days off either working or sleeping. It was clearly getting on Lacy's last nerve. "Hello!" Lacy exclaimed waving her hands around in an attempt to wake Violet out of her slumber. "Will you just get up already?"

Violet finally sat up. "Jenna and I are going bowling," Lacy told her. "I was wondering if you'd like to come?" "I have to work." "Not until later. Just come bowling with us, it will be fun!"

"What if I don't want to go bowling, what if I want to lie in bed all day, ever think about that?" Violet asked. "You're going," Lacy demanded. "Meet me downstairs in fifteen minutes."

Lacy found Rosie making a mess in the front hall as she waited for Violet to get changed. "I'm glad you aren't my kid," Lacy told her. "Yay!" exclaimed Rosie as she continued to pour sugar and chocolate sauce onto the floor.

"You know," Lacy told her. "I can't even tease you about having a generic toddler face anymore. I'm going to have to find something else to tease you about." "Mean Lacy," Rosie told her, although she didn't seem too bothered.

When Violet finished changing she wandered into Leo's room. He was playing video games. "Want to come bowling with Lacy, Jenna and I?" Violet asked "You sure you want me interrupting your girls day?" "Not a real girls day." "I guess, I've always been better than you at bowling"

Jenna was waiting in the lobby for Lacy, Violet and Leo to show up. "Hey!" lacy exclaimed while taking a seat. "You guys are thirty minutes late," Jenna told her.

"Yeah, sorry about that," Lacy apologized, "Violet was sulking in bed, again, and then she wanted to stop and invite her brother." "All good," Jenna said. "Let's just get bowling.

As they tried to begin their bowling match, Lacy was swarmed by townies. "Oh my watcher, are you the Lacy Landcaster?" one townie exclaimed "Aren't you meant to be dead?" "You look just like her, can we get a picture?" another townie exclaimed "Leave me alone" Lacy said irritated

Lacy ignored them and decided to just start bowling. She was pretty confident with her performance.

"Does that happen a lot?" Jenna asked. "I guess. I'm told I look a lot like one of my ancestors, the real Lacy Landcaster, famous actress and everything. I was even named after her" Lacy lied. She didn't want the whole world to know she was the real Lacy Landcaster reincarnated.

Jenna just shrugged and stepped up to the lane for her own turn. She was less successful than Lacy. "What in the watcher!" She exclaimed waving her hands around. "There was no way I threw a gutter ball."

Up next was Violet who missed the lane completely and ended up dropping the ball on the ground behind her. "I guess bowling isn't my strong suit," she laughed nervously wondering how many people had saw.

And then it was Leo, who somehow managed to do even worse than Violet, despite his words earlier that morning.

All in all, Lacy won the game with a score of 140. "Did you see your fall?" Violet teased. "So, embarrassing, and I got a better score than you." "I hate to break this to you, Vi, but I got a 19 and you got a 27, we both sucked," Leo told her. "Still better than you!"

Over at the snack bar Lacy was busy recanting Leo's fall to everyone who would listen. He just decided to go along with it, as Violet and Lacy couldn't stop laughing.

After the bowling shenanigans it was time for Violet to head into work, where Owen had appeared to have not shown up leaving Violet to handle the afternoon rush all by herself. "Here you go sir," she exclaimed cheerfully. "One mango boba made fresh by yours truly!"

After the rush had died down, Owen did finally show up to work. "Where the hell have you been?" Violet exclaimed angerly. "I had to work the rush all by myself!" "Tiffany knew I was going to be late; I had a meeting with the academic advisor at school." "What? Why?"

"I'm looking to graduate early, needed to find out what I had to do," Owen explained. "Is this about Lacy? Because she won't tell me anything." "Not about Lacy. It gives me a head start with college, the faster I finish school the quicker my older sister can go back to school."

"Oh," Violet trailed off. It occurred to her that she really didn't know very much about Owen. Whenever they were working, she'd only ever talked about herself. She didn't even know his sister had never finished school.

This is about the Sims 4, at the bottom there's a question. You can skip down to the question if you don't care about backstory.

I have a "Chaos World" save that is probably the most fun, and the most invested I've been in a playthrough, and I've got a couple household's I've been playing, part the base game townies, part randomly generated Sims, and part custom/makeovered Sims. While I'm playing I'll slip into CAS and edit the Sims that come up, stuff like that. And sometimes I'll go into family trees and piece together a backstory and such.

I decided to create a matriarch household that's the "Main" family I play, and all the rest are side characters, but sometimes they'll have their own "episode" if you know what I mean.

The Matriarch is still rather young, and had two kids fresh out of highschool with her highschool sweetheart, Kiyoshi.

They were crazy about each other, and their kids, Peyton and Hayley. Kiyoshi and Jazmine (The Matriarch) worked their butts off to raise these toddlers, and parent them right. Kiyoshi worked his butt off and was finally able to move out of his parents house and buy some land for him and his little family.

He built a home and farm out in Henford-on-Bagley and they lived there for just a short while before Jazmine found out she was pregnant again with another little boy! Unexpected, but not unwelcome! They named him Reid, and it seemed almost as if their lives couldn't get any better. They even got a puppy and named Tiber to top it all off!

Seasons pass, days go by, Kiyoshi is doing really good in his career, as well as Jazmine. Soon, it's Reid's birthday from a toddler to a child! Jazmine plans the birthday party days in advance, everyone has the day off, and Jazmine invites the whole family. Kiyoshis mom, dad, sisters and brother (Megumi and Naoki are Kiyoshis parents, and they decided to have twins after Peyton was born). They all head to the restaurant Jazmine picks. Everyone is having a great time. Eating, drinking, making jokes, and everyone pretty much has a happy or playful moodlet. That is, until Kiyoshi laughs so hard that he has a heart attack and dies!

Now, in a different household, I have a villainous Valentine named Megan, out to break up all couples she comes across, wether that be her beguiling and seducing them into breaking up with their significant other, or her being mean and badmouthing their partner. She was really good at the art of seduction, and betrayal. Anyone she came across, she ruined their relationship. But even she couldn't get Kiyoshi to betray Jazmines trust, he refused to be flirty, or build up a romance bar with her. (Can't we all have a man as dedicated as Kiyoshi?)

Not long after Megumi had Lieyen and Kenji, Megumi met Megan, and fell under her spell very quickly, and divorced Naoki with a quickness. Once Megan's spell wore off, she realized her mistake and tried to repair things with her husband, but she had already done too much damage to their relationship (FULL red romance. Yikes.) What she didn't know when she was trying to fix things was that Naoki was ready to GTFO and start over. He took both Leiyen and Kenji, remarried, and moved in with his new wife, and had a baby with her almost immediately after.

Her oldest daughter, Nanami had moved out too, so, she was quite lonely in her big house. She tried to date again, but she never felt the deep love she had with Naoki. She didn't remarry. When she heard that Kiyoshi had passed away, it was the final straw.

I got a notification that her pet (That I had specifically placed in her household) had been adopted by another household and I was shocked! So I looked into the "Known people" and saw her little portrait was a ghost! I looked into the family tree, and the cause of death was "Fell from height". I was actually sad about it. I know it doesn't say she did it herself, but I didn't know your Sims *could* fall.

Rest in peace Kiyoshi and Megumi Ito. You will be dearly missed.

Survived by Peyton Ito, Hayley Ito, Reid Ito, Nanami Ito, Lieyen Ito, and Kenji Ito.

(PS Does anyone know how to find Megumis Urn?? I don't know where she died, and I went to her house and it wasn't there either. I'm keeping the family line tombstones, and would like to have it. TIA)

I'm dropping a timeline of my South Park town in the Sims lmao (this is messy as FUCK btw and just drabble so-- reader beware //of my brain nonsense)

So I started by creating the boys and their families and then I quit playing for like a month (because doing all that work was just too much xD)

But I had all of the boys start out as children and I wanted to build there relationships from there. (as of now I have not made the girls other than Wendy and Bebe)

I dunno how most of y'all be playing the Sims but I have a story running thru my head throughout all of it and that's what makes it so fun for me xD My roommate can't relate

Anyways

After I got finished building everyone's relationships* ALL WITHOUT CHEATING BY THE WAY- I was able to play as Craig and Tweek, which I wanted to do in the first place.

I decided not to force age my sims and the save file is set for the sims to have a normal lifespan while the seasons are 7 [sim] days long. So essentially, I would have to play for 56 days of the boys as children. Or 8 sim weeks/ 2 sim years.

I dunno if y'all have ever waited for your sims to age up naturally BUT HOLY WORDS IT IS AGONIZING.

But I wasn't going to give up. For a while, I played solely as Tweek. He was a straight A student, he joined the scouts and earned all of this badges. He completed 2 out of 4 aspirations for children (Rambunctious Scamp and the Creative one) and by the time he aged up he had mastered the piano skill and had written and published a song. 

Craig kept up in school even better than Tweek. He would do extra credit work and was mastered in the logic skill before he aged up. He had completed 3 of the 4 aspirations. Rambunctious scamp, Social Butterfly, and the Whiz Kid.

I spent most of the time playing as Craig and Tweek and didn't really play with the other characters that much, but lemme tell you, it's really cool to have all the boys playing at the park at the same time. And when they would come home from school it would be like: "Craig wants to invite over classmate Token, is that okay?" and I was just like :D

I was able to do a little with Kenny, he was doing okay in school, but due to poor living conditions was never really happy. I got him a dog that's agressive and runs away a lot, so I felt like that built him up into what he is now.

WHICH BRINGS ME TO

The Teen Years**

this is where I am currently. Everyone is aged up except for uh, Clyde - Butters - Token - Eric. (they'll age up in few more [sim] days)

So immediately, as they aged up, Craig and Tweek hit it off. They are in a relationship... kind of. (more on this later)

Craig is a lifeguard afterschool and keeps up his A grade. He's also really into fitness and works out alllll the time. He is obsessed with Tweek, he loves him to death. He's got pictures of the two of them together all over the house.

Tweek on the other hand enjoys writing and playing music. He also keeps up his grades but he's not as meticulous with it as Craig is. Craig gave Tweek a promise ring and now Tweek is promised to him.

This is where things get a little interesting on my end---

I got a little bored playing with Tweek and Craig and their loving committed relationship (call it the Gemini in me) and I went to play Kenny (unrelated but he is a major comfort character of mine).

Kenny is a serial romantic. What can I say, the guy likes to have a good time. SO I have Kenny run over to Stan's house and they start dating. Kenny leaves Stan's house and run's into Tweek and they start FLIRTING.

Out of curiosity, I had Kenny ask Tweek if he was in a relationship and Tweek said NO. So Kenny saw an open window and climbed in- BAM he and Tweek start dating too. Everything is on the DL of course.

Meanwhile, Kenny is teaching himself how to sing. He practices a lot in public, which gets him FAMOUS. So now he's a famous person who flirts with anything that moves.

But the way I see it is, yes, Kenny flirts a lot. He is a bird you can't keep in a cage, but he will always come back home. And to Kenny, that home is Stan. How does Stan feel about it? Well I imagine that when Stan finds out JUST HOW MANY PEOPLE Kenny has been with, he's not going to like it very much. Especially since one of those people is Tweek, one of Kenny's closest friends.

HOWEVER like I said, Kenny is a bird and his home is Stan. Kenny loves Stan a lot and I imagine that when Stan find out about everything Kenny has been doing behind his back, they will break up and go their separate ways. But when they get older, and Kenny is ready to settle down, he'll seek out Stan and see if they wanna try things again. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it-

I've got big plans for Butters, however. He adores the shit out of Kenny, and I imagine when Butters' ages up he'll be Kenny's new "home" for a while. But we all know Butters deserves better so, I'm gonna have to find a way to give him a happy arc at some point.

Regency Legacy Challenge:

Alright, so I've been wanting to make a period save for a while now and I finally did it. Think somewhere between regency era and early victorian, which is a huge gap, I know. I started with the original townies in Willow Creek, Oasis Springs, and Windenberg, and I'm planning to make over some of the other world's later, if I run out of characters.

Here are the rules I made for myself. Blame it on watching too much Bridgerton lately.

Makeover all potential playable sims in something approximating old time outfits. Long skirts for the ladies. Dapper threads for the dudes. No jeans / zippers / bikinis, etc. Kids get a free pass mostly due to lack of options and the fact that their parents weren't really paying attention to them back then.

Makeover the lots so they are also more old style. Lots of fun things in the gallery. For example I replaced the Spencer -Kim-Lewis mansion with this gorgeous build above.

Houses can't have any electronic entertainment.

Set the lifespan on short, because frankly, it was.

Men can have careers, but only ones that are kind of authentic. No tech careers, etc.

Women can go to school until they become young adults. Then they must work inside the home only. They can have any money-making hobby that can be done at home though, such as painting, knitting, gardening, etc.

The only exception to this is the townie households that start with single women. These women are allowed to work, because they have to live, but they can only have traditionally female jobs, and they must resign once/if they marry. This rule also applies if your family tanks as laid out below and you don't have a living male relative you can move in with.

Goal is of course to try to marry off the women into other prosperous families. Unmarried women live at home. Married women live at their husband's house. Oldest boy child inherits the family property. Other boy children can move out and start their own households once married, or stay at the ancestral home.

No premarital woohoo. The exception to this is same-sex relationships. You can date a same sex sim, and marry them, but you can't adopt heirs. Affairs are also fair game.

After marriage, anytime the husband has low fun, he must try to convince wife to woohoo. If she is already engrossed in something else, or she is asleep, his efforts are unsuccessful. If wife is not pregnant and there aren't any boy children, they must try for a baby. Once wife has a boy child, it's your discretion whether to keep having babies or not. Obviously you can't keep at it once the household reaches max capacity, so consider how many adults you have hanging out there.

You have to give each child one random permanent trait. If you have children with someone who makes your family tree zigzag, one of the child's other traits has to be the insane trait.

No cheats to extend lives or phases longer. You achieve what you achieve. If you don't get married before you become an elder, you're going to die alone.

If you don't make a male heir before your husband dies, the entire family has to move in with the closest male relative in the family tree. If the closest male relative has a smaller house, he can choose to move his whole family into your house instead. If the family won't all fit, you can split it up among various male relatives.

Servants, maids, nannies, and butlers are all ok. Children with servants or out of wedlock don't count as heirs.

You can marry a NPC, but if you do, where will you live? Women can't move in with a NPC who isn't in the world. And do men really want a wife who isn't from a good family?

You can use the motherlode cheat twice on your first household. After that, if you go broke, you go broke, and you have to either downsize your house or move the whole family in with the closest male relative.

A note: For what it's worth, I'm a hard core feminist. I tried to write the challenge to match the norms of the time period I picked. The irony of playing this is that, while the women sims aren't working traditional jobs, they are the ones gaining all the skills. They are selling thousand dollar paintings and farmables every day. The male sims basically just go to and from work being sad and making peanuts.

The challenge is in no way an endorsement of old times, and I'd personally be super offended if anyone in real life implied that women should be home and popping out kids at the expense of their careers. But this is a video game, so let's make some crazy story lines and have a fun time.

so forgive me if this is kinda a stupid question but i have an oc from Boston and I've never actually been there (I'm from the south so my experience with anything in the north is limited lol) but I was wondering if there are like... certain phrases/interests/general info that I could use to build up her character a little more?

Not a stupid question! An exciting question!

So, disclaimer: I’m not a native Bostonian. I was born and raised in New Jersey. If I have any followers who can swoop in and correct or add to any of this, please do! But I’ve lived here on and off for 12 years and married a local, so I’ll give it my best shot.

First of all: Where in Boston is your OC from? This is pretty vital to pin down. It’d be a hugely different experience growing up in, say, Beacon Hill vs. Mattapan. There are plenty of basic breakdowns of the different neighborhoods online, but my one strength in answering this question is that I’ve moved all over this city like an erratic Ping-Pong ball. So if you need inside information about any specific area, I’ve lived or worked in: the Theater District, Back Bay, Allston, Brookline (not actually part of Boston, but closely associated with it), Kenmore/Fenway/Longwood (that’s kind of all one neighborhood, but I’ve got all three parts covered), the North End, Lower Mills (part of Dorchester, which is huge), and Mattapan. I’ve also hung out a lot in Downtown Crossing, Chinatown, Beacon Hill, and Cambridge (which is also not part of Boston).

If you don’t know what part of the city your OC’s from yet, think about her economic background, ethnicity/nationality, what she or her parents did/do for work, the kinds of places you imagine her spending her time, etc., and see if you can find a good match.

Other Boston things:

The accent: The Boston accent (as in “We pahk the cah on Hahvahd Yahd”) is real, but not universal. It’s mostly a thing in working-class families who’ve lived around here (and remained working-class) for at least a couple generations. My mother-in-law, who’s from a blue-collar Irish family in Dorchester, has it. Her husband is straight from Ireland with a full-blown brogue. And their four kids--all raised in the suburbs, all educated at private Catholic schools, after which they all went to college--have no trace of either accent.

Phrases: I feel like you want to be really careful with regional words/phrases in general, lest a character come off like a walking parody, but here are a few tips:

Possibly the most stereotypical Boston (and general New England) word is “wicked,” which is used to modify adjectives, as in “It’s wicked cold out” or “I’m wicked hungry.” (A girl from Maine was playing with my hair once and told me it was “wicked pretty,” and it was, like, the highlight of my life.) This is NOT something I hear on the regular, but I wouldn’t balk if your OC used it once or twice over the course of a story.

A liquor store is called a “packie” (short for “package store”). Don’t ask me why. My husband calls them this every time without fail, and was previously unaware that it was not a universal term.

A milkshake is called a frappe (which is pronounced “frap,” and does not involve coffee). Or at least, the drink in which you mix milk and ice cream, which would be called a milkshake in any other part of the country, is called a “frappe.” Supposedly, if you ask for a milkshake, you’ll get a drink made of milk and syrup with no ice cream, but I’ve never attempted this.

You don’t make a U-turn here--you “bang a U-ey.” Again, I can verify this one based on the fact that My Husband Says It. (And he once yelled it while playing a multiplayer video game involving cars, and was horrified when none of his fellow players had any idea what he was talking about.)

Interests: You’re probably already aware of the sports teams (Red Sox for baseball, Patriots for football, Celtics for basketball, Bruins for hockey). This is New England, Land of the Endless Winters, so hockey is pretty big (including casual kids’ hockey teams). Ice-skating is popular in general; the Frog Pond on the Boston Common (which doesn’t actually have any frogs) is a favorite spot.

As someone who is Not A Sports Person, I can also assure you that whether you want them to or not, the Red Sox will affect your life as a Bostonian. You will find yourself almost smothered to death on the T by dense crowds of drunk people in Sox gear on their way to or from a big game. You will be casually shopping downtown when a deafening wave of noise approaches, confetti rains down from the heavens, and you are nearly trampled to death by a post-World Series parade. You will be unable to sleep a wink the night after a game if you live anywhere near Fenway. And do not set foot in a bar at such times. DO NOT.

Other things that Bostonians care about more than the average person, in my experience: SEAFOOD; St. Patrick’s Day (I’ve never been to the parade because of reasons, and honestly, I’d also recommend avoiding the bars, the T, and even the very streets if possible); the Boston Pops concert and fireworks display at the Esplanade every Fourth of July (ok, that’s actually pretty fun); and all things American Revolution (well, you may not be interested, but you probably studied it intensively in school and visited a lot of local historical sites).

Public transit: Boston’s train/bus system is called the MBTA (Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority), but literally everyone calls it “the T.” If you travel on the T regularly, you probably have a CharlieCard:

These are named after an old campaign song by a politician who promised to lower the fares. It’s absurdly catchy.

Knowing what neighborhood your character is from tells you which T stations she would’ve lived near, which is also super important to my Bostonian mind. Is she a Red Line kid? Green? Orange? Blue? Or maybe she mostly took Silver Line buses, or rode the Commuter Rail (a.k.a. Purple Line) to work. (I‘ve only ever lived on the Green and Red Lines and certain bus lines, so I have Biases.)

College town: Boston is a college town. It is lousy with colleges. That’s what first brought me here, and even though I’m a townie now, I remember the culture well. College students make up around 20% of the city’s population when school is in session, and the downtown neighborhoods in particular are crawling with them. They swarm the bookstores and museums and bars (with real or fake IDs) and trendy restaurants. They work in every cafe and perform in every theater. They smoke clove cigarettes and take Duck Tours and ride the Swan Boats. If your character is a local, she’s had annoying encounters with college kids at some point or another. I promise not to take offense.

The Emerald Necklace: This is the nickname for a giant string of parks and waterways that surrounds the city of Boston. No matter where you live, including the most inner-city neighborhoods (which is where I currently live and work), chances are good that there is a substantial amount of green space and water in your general vicinity. Complete with hiking/bike paths that, if you follow them long enough, will take you through literal woods where you can see nothing but trees and hear nothing but birdsong. This is possibly my favorite thing about the whole New England region. It’s so heavily forested that you can still find your way to a little bit of nature in the most unexpected places.

Miscellaneous:

Dunkin’ Donuts is not found only in Boston, but it is more beloved in Boston than anywhere else on earth. I swear there is one on every block in the city. It is the place to get coffee as well as doughnuts. Starbucks is around here too, but is scorned in comparison.

J.P. Licks is a local chain of ice-cream stores with locations all over the city. Everyone goes there. It is very tasty.

The annual Christmas tree on the Boston Common is donated by Canadians from Nova Scotia. There’s a story behind it. It’s pretty cool. (The tree lighting is a huge event with speeches, music, fake snow, and sometimes fireworks. They actually light up the whole Common, which is gorgeous at night. I could see it from my dorm windows in college.)

This is obviously just a tiny fraction of Boston lore, but it’s still probably more than you wanted, and I should wrap this up while the day’s still young, so...hope some part of this was helpful! Mercy: I may not have told the world I have a child, because by the time I got on the scene and really started making a name for myself he was 2 and I didn't want that life for him, so I never said anything to maintain some privacy in my life. But you, I told you.

Sam: You didn't.

Sam: This isn't funny.

Mercy: No its not funny not at all.

Mercy: You really didn't know? Not in all these years? Because I swear to you I sent you that letter telling you about him.

Sam: I didn't get a letter.
