All Blackbeard feels is darkness. He watches how the remaining crew squirms underneath his gaze. Izzy is standing next to him with a proud and mischievous smile on his face.

Blackbeard should feel the same.

But he doesn’t.

After all the anger and heartbreak and confusion, there’s almost nothing left to feel anymore. Even when the boat starts to shake because of the waves and everyone on deck starts to panic, Blackbeard doesn’t sway.

The shaking gets harder.

It’s as if his entire body is being shaken.

“Ed!”

Stede?

Everything goes hazy, until...

Edward slowly opens his eyes. Everything is foggy. How long has been asleep?

“Ed!” he hears again. Edward sits up and Stede is in front of him with a huge smile on his face. His hands are on Edward’s upper arms. He must’ve shaken Edward awake.

“… what?” Edward says and yawns.

“Finally, I found you! Sorry to keep you waiting. I called out your name several times, but seems like you were asleep. But no worries, I spent all my extra time coming up with brilliant names. What about Jodie Bottom?”

“Jolly - bottom?”

“Jodie!”

Edward blinks the sleep out of his eyes. He has the feeling he’s had a really weird dream. A nightmare, even. He tries to stand up, but his mind is too disoriented and he almost trips.

Stede stands and he steadies Edward. He looks concerned.

“Is everything alright?” he asks, “Is the name not proper enough. Now that I think of it, it does sound to jolly bottom.”

Edward shakes his head.

“No, the name’s fine.” Funny, even. “I think I had a nightmare, but I can’t remember it.”

“Isn’t that a good thing?” Stede offers a reassuring smile.

“I suppose,” Edward says, “But I still feel how I felt during that dream. It was as if my life was empty.”

Stede squeezes his hand.

“That’s why we start anew,” he says with a happy tone in his voice. An excited tone, even. A small smile forms on Edward’s face.

Yes. Exactly.

Whatever he dreamt of wasn’t real. This is real. Stede is here with funny names and a hope for a shared future. The smile grows.

“Let’s go, then,” Edward says.

Together they walk towards their new life together.
