Found family anime recommendation list
I've been thinking about making this rec list for a while because found family is my absolute favorite trope, so this is really self indulging haha 🤭
these are just some of my personal favorites, but if you guys have more recommendations please add them!
(This list contains spoilers!)
1. Dororo- absolutely heartbreaking and beautiful. the two main characters, Dororo and Hyakkimaru, develop such a special and precious bond throughout the story, and what makes it even more interesting is that at the beginning, Hyakkimaru is not able to see, hear, or really communicate with Dororo, and he gets those abilities slowly throughout the story (through killing demons haha yes it's that kind of story), so it makes the development of their relationship really unique. Both of them don't have their actual families for different reasons, but I absolutely LOVE the familial relationship they develop!
2. spy x amily - everyone's new favorite family lol. I don't think I need to elaborate, I love the little family they've built. it's so cute how all three of them have their own selfish reasons to want to keep this family unit, but at the same time care so deeply (and obliviously) for each other, I love it! there's not a single character I dislike, there wasn't a single episode i was bored watching (so far). it's like the perfect found family - they found each other, and just created a family instantly haha. If for any reason you're still not watching this, you really really should
3. banana fish - ugh honestly it's hard to find words for this one, it's so so SO good, but also, watch at your own risk, it's been years and my heart still hasn't recovered. The relationship between the two main characters, Ash and Eiji, is so beautiful and touching and tender, and it's so satisfying to watch. Ash deserves all the love omg 😭 I love how they take care of each other, how it's obvious to everyone how much they love each other. and i hate how it ended but that's a talk for another time...
4. Run with the wind - ok so i think most sports anime have an aspect of found family - your teammates become kinda your family, and friendships and bonds are usually the main focus. but i think it's especially highlighted in run with the wind - it's a show about running a marathon, and it's in a university setting (which already makes it more interesting lol). i LOVE connections between the characters. here as well, there's not a single character i dislike. even king who i didn't really care about in the beginning, I grew to love so much by the end. and Haiji might be my favorite character of all times. like throughout all platforms, he's my favorite. he created this team and he made them a family and i just wish i had a haiji in my life, you know? 😭
5. march comes in like a lion - ok, so, this one is especially precious to me, and i think it's my favorite anime of all times. officially, the show is about a boy who plays shogi professionally, and it is a part of it, but there's so much more to this anime. I've never watched anything that handled depression, and the journey of getting better, in a more accurate way than this show. the main character, Rei, is an orphan, and has a really complicated life story. he meets these three sisters, and is kinda invited to be a part of their little family. the relationships in this show are so touching and tender, even when nothing sad was happening i found myself crying. the sisters basically adopt rei, and little by little help him heal some of his wounds. the visuals of this show are perfect, you can feel everything rei is feeling. the sisters' house feels warm and inviting, while other spaces feel cold and disconnected. it's brilliant. also, the show handles the different characters with so much care, you end up caring about them all. i can go on forever lol, it's a masterpiece.
6. kids on the slope - another brilliant show. this is a slice of life, and the focus is on the friendship of three teens in the 60's. i love this one because even though they all have families that play a part in the story, they still become like a family to one another. their relationships are so touching, and so realistic. it deals with jealousy and friendship and love and loneliness in such a realistic, relatable way. for example one of the boys gets really jealous when his friend gets a new friend, it makes him lash out in such an unreasonable way, but at the same time you can totally relate to what he's feeling, because like, which one of us hasn't been there, right? i really recommend! (Also, the music is absolutely fantastic!)
7. Umibe no Etranger- maybe some people would think this doesn't belong here, but i totally think that along with love, this movie is totally about found family 😊 the two main boys are both on their own, Mio because he was orphaned, and Shun because he lost connection with his family after coming out. throughout the story, they become each other's family and support system (especially if you keep reading the manga like i have hehe🤭). i love their relationship so much!
8. fruits basket - again, maybe it's not the main trope, but it's definitely very much there! tohru, who is left without a family, finds a new family in the form of the very dysfunctional sohma family, that cares about her immensely, while she also cares about them and helps them heal and break their curse. i never read the manga or watched the old anime, and i didn't expect this to be as deep and painful as it was, but honestly one of my favorite shows right now.
9. Poko's udon world - so! freaking! cute! is it a ploy to make people have families and kids? perhaps. do i care? nope. Poko is the cutest child character ever, and the parent-child relationship between sota and poco is so precious, this is the most literal definition of a found family lol- sota found poco and basically instantly adopted him. the story is really touching and cute!
10. Clannad + Clannad after story - ugh i don't know if I'm able to talk about this one again, as it makes my heart hurt. this is one of my all time favorites. i think even though it's a love story, above all else it's a story about family. i wasn't sure if it fits the "found family" category but decided it does. even before nagisa and tomoya get married, tomoya is basically adopted by nagisa's family. they take him in to allow him some distance from his father, and show him how happy and loving a family can be. Also, all the friendship in the story are meaningful and have a familial feel to them. throughout the show there's a lot of focus on the subject of family, which leads to the main characters creating their own new little family unit. if you've been living under a rock i must warn you, I've never cried this much while watching a show in my life. while the ending is a happy one (well... in a bizarre kind of way, i guess), there's so much pain throughout the whole show, it's overwhelming at times. still, it's so so good and i really recommend to give it a try! (please, get through the first season and get to Clannad after story, it's really worth it!)
11. Usagi drop- i also wasn't sure if this fits the found family category, as it deals with an actual family, but wth, it's my list i can do what i want lol. very sweet story about a guy who adopts his grandfather's 6 year old daughter when he dies (yes, his aunt, basically), when no one else in the family wants to take her in. it's very sweet, very touching. they slowly become a family, and he learns what it means to be a single parent, and what sacrifices he has to make (like getting demoted at his job so he'll have more time to take care of his kid). the show is very wholesome, but don't read the manga, as i heard it went in different, less wholesome directions.
12. kotaro lives alone- this show was a ride! i was expecting a silly show about a 4 year old boy who lives alone, and got a heartbreaking show about neglect and trauma. his neighbors become his family throughout the show, and come to love him a lot and take care of him, and their relationships are very entertaining and sweet. ngl, i cried a lot during this show. i do think it deals with some very triggering things, so you should check that before watching 😊
and.. that's it for now! these are the ones i thought about so far, please feel free to add your own recommendations! i would love to get more!

As ridiculous as this whole situation sounds - the ‘Who Would Let a Literal Gradeschooler Help Run a Company’ kind of bollocks - this... throws into sharp relief just how corrupt and twisted Tokuichi and Haiji both were.
See the way Haiji talks here: he proposes this idea that Monaca ‘took advantage of the position’, while in the same breath saying that he and his dad let her ‘do whatever’, just as long as she brought Towa Group good money. So in reality, they were the ones taking advantage of Monaca, using her for her genius. That’s how she even got that position in Towa Group to begin with.
Up until Monaca’s ‘promotion’, the family hated her and treated her terribly. The fact that they believed that her body was badly damaged, without even doing anything to confirm or treat it, would suggest that they were keeping her isolated at home while abusing her, and as such, didn’t want that to be found out. And this alone isn’t the entire story- remember that Monaca is an illegitimate child, and though Tokuichi hated her so, took her in anyway. There’s a good chance that he thought sending her to an orphanage would be the worst option for him, as opposed to keeping her hidden away in his sights. The only time the two were ‘nice’ to her was when she pulled the ‘paraplegic trick’ in order to make the others kinder to her, and sometime thereafter, her talents were put to use seemingly for the company’s sake.
It was as if the perceived injury shifted the balance of power in the family. With this in mind, as Haiji despised Monaca for being an ‘alien’, and with the added layer of her success over him, he painted her however he liked in his disgust, removing himself from the picture. The truth of the matter is that the two adults were the ones responsible for a terrible oversight that inflamed the Tragedy, but with Haiji’s antipathy towards Monaca’s existence, he doesn’t even want to associate with her, much less take accountability for her present situation.
Tumblr media
The idea that Monaca would ‘one day ruin the family’ may have referred to her ‘bastard child’ status, but right here? It was because neither adult would take responsibility for her, and left her mind and talent open to a predator. Of course, it’s not like anyone who preyed on her before would care about such a thing happening, and they certainly wouldn’t frame their own behaviour as that, when it would be much more convenient to lump the blame on their victim.
Have a look at the memoirs of the Warriors of Hopes’ parents again, and see if you notice the distorted way they talk about their kids. If we wouldn’t take what they said at face value, why would we do the same with Monaca’s family?

Alright. Ghosts exist. Let's take a moment to talk about that.
Tokuichi is a scumbag and his scene mostly serves to deliver exposition on Monaca. He reveals the connection between Monaca and Haiji; They're half-siblings, making Haiji and Tokuichi into the abusive family members in Monaca's background.
And just in case there was any doubt, Tokuichi makes absolutely clear that he's a monster and the world is better off for his death. He's very careful to clarify that so we don't start thinking we should be on his and Haiji's side.
So that's some important info that's dropped. But also, ghosts exist. Komaru mentioned back in chapter 3 that she can see and interact with ghosts. That's just a thing she has.
Which isn't counted as a Talent because superpowers and Talents are different things for some reason. Same reason Sayaka isn't the Ultimate Telepath.
I've heard people classify this moment as a bridge too far. That Ultra Despair Girls jumped the shark when Tokuichi's severed head began talking to Komaru. That this was a "grounded, realistic" series until that moment.
And. Like. Really?
A pop idol reads minds. A high school girl collapsed global civilization by being too sad. The Ultimate Analyst Talent. Teddy bear drones made from tech more complex than NASA. Multiple characters practicing anime-style martial arts. The entire Neo World Program. Yasuhiro definitely, provably can see the future. Nagito's Russian Roulette on hard mode and subsequent luck-driven suicide-roulette. Every single thing about Genocide Jack.
Calling this series grounded is like calling Ace Attorney grounded. Danganronpa has been balls-to-the-wall from the word go. I really don't think "Ghosts are real" is that much more fantastical than anything else that happens in this series.
Some people just have superpowers for no reason. That's just life, man.

This sounds like..... a long meta but lemme see if I can summarize my thoughts: Imo, Fujioka and Haiji really parted HS on very awkward terms. Fujioka asked Haiji to come to Rikudo and (in the anime at least), Haiji rejected him. At this point, it would have been hard for Fujioka to stay in touch with Haiji, given there's a tacit understanding that Haiji didn't want to go to Rikudo together with him because of his condition, and that it would be impossible for them to go back to the way they were before the injury... for Fujioka, there could even be this feeling that his presence might become a source of distress/reminder for Haiji, and Haiji might not welcome his friendship after this, so I feel it would be hard for him to initiate the first move at reconnecting unless Haiji gave him the OK. Haiji also, would not know how to stay in touch with Fujioka, because my hc is they started out as equals, but Fujioka had gone on ahead without him, becoming the ace of Rikudo and all that, and Haiji may have had trouble managing his own feelings, the feeling that he can't be happy for his friend without feeling sorry for himself. And until he could resolve that feeling and gain his personal self-worth and confidence back, it would be hard for him to talk to Fujioka as an equal again. That's how their friendship went quiet and drifted apart a bit. But to say they have stopped caring about each other entirely would be wrong too, I feel. Imo they cared enough that when they bumped into each other at the running track, they just kind of lit up seeing each other again (excuse me but MY HEART). It's just that circumstances have made it hard for them to connect the same way they used to, so they just have to let it be.

“What?!” He had to be kidding. Haiji just can’t catch a break. “Shit! Where are they and how many are we talking about exactly? Hundreds? Thousands?”

ahhhhh kakehai for 15 (things you said with too many miles between us) please!!
craaaaaaaaaaaaaab hi!!! everyday i appreciate you for encouraging my kakehai writing!! here are some words about haiji and kakeru and shoelaces, ten years after canon.
(from the things you said prompts)
Haiji nearly drops the plate he's washing when he hears it.
Even the interviewer, it seems, is surprised enough to cough onscreen and say with open curiosity, "Really, Kurahara-san? Shoelaces?"
But Kakeru turns to look seriously at the camera and says, "It's true. The way I lace my shoes is the same way my college track captain used to. I made him sit down with me, the afternoon of his graduation ceremony, just to show me.” He laughs, and to Haiji’s ears he sounds wistful. “I wonder what he thought of that.”
Haiji had forgotten, but he remembers it now — the cherry blossoms in Kakeru’s hair, the unbearably blue sky. The way his hands had trembled when he’d leant over to tie the knot with Kakeru’s laces. How absolutely certain Haiji had been, in that moment, that there was nothing between them to start.
Onscreen, Kakeru is smiling at the camera, an unexpected curl to his mouth. "I wouldn't be anywhere near here if I hadn't met him. I truly believe that joining the Kansei ekiden team changed the course of my life.” He ducks his chin. The tips of his ears are pink, even in the studio lighting. "Anyway. I owe him a lot. I suppose the lacing was, selfishly, a way to keep him in my life after he left running."
"There you have it," the interviewer says. "Kurahara Kakeru, Japanese national team marathon runner, on the greatest influences of his running life.”
“Thank you very much,” Kakeru says, bobbing politely. Haiji can’t tear his eyes from the screen. A way to keep him in my life after he left running.
The interviewer continues, “Kurahara-san’s college running career culminated in running Section 10 of the Hakone ekiden three years in a row, breaking his previous record each time. Kurahara-san will be one of our guest broadcasters for this year’s ekiden, please be sure to tune in next week to catch his segment!”
The show cuts to commercial and Haiji lunges for his phone. Even as he's dialing he has no idea what he'll say, and no idea how long ago this segment was filmed, only that he can't just — leave that said without a response.
There's a thirteen hour drive between them, but he can close it with a call.
The line clicks over to voicemail. Kakeru's voice — Haiji's heart thuds — says, dry and rote, "It's Kurahara Kakeru. Please leave a message."
"Kakeru," Haiji says. It's been years since he addressed Kakeru by name. He’s always Kurahara-san when he comes up in the newsroom at work.
Haiji doesn’t know what to say next. His university self would have found a way to just — start talking, shrouding the truth in layers of misdirection, discovering what he meant to say midway through and talking in circles until it was hidden again. But now, a decade later, he just wants to get to the point.
“I saw your interview,” Haiji says. He chews at the inside of his cheek, and adds, “I remembered you asking me to teach you how I tie my racing shoes. Only after you said it, though.” He paces a slow circle in his kitchen. It’s easier to say this, knowing that Kakeru will only hear it later. “I don’t know your racing schedule, but … if your season brings you here to Fukuoka, I would like to meet up, or — dinner, perhaps, if you would like. I’ve mi—”
The line clicks again and for a moment Haiji thinks he's run out of time. But then, a breath over the line and Kakeru's voice, worried, says, "Is this ... Haiji-san? Is something wrong?"
Of course he’d think that. They’ve barely texted in the decade since Haiji’s graduation. Calling like this…
“Nothing’s wrong,” Haiji says. “I’m sorry to call you so suddenly. I — I watched your interview. The teaser for the ekiden broadcast.”
“Oh,” Kakeru says. A surprised little laugh. “Really?”
“I watch most of your interviews,” Haiji admits. “This time, I just wanted to—” This had been so much easier without Kakeru on the other line. “I remembered, after you said it. When you asked me to show you how I laced my racing shoes.”
“Ah,” Kakeru says. He sounds embarrassed.
Haiji almost says: I didn’t think there was something between us, then. I thought it was just me. “I was happy to do it,” Haiji says instead, as firmly as he knows how. “It made me happy that you asked.” It’s been years. The circumstances have changed. They’ll be different people, when they meet again.
“Come to the team reunion this year, Haiji-san,” Kakeru says. Haiji can hear the tentative smile in his voice. He presses his phone closer to his ear to hear Kakeru add, “It hasn’t been the same without you there.”
The rush of wind outside Haiji’s apartment window. The feeling of a new beginning rising in his chest.
“I’ll be there, Kakeru,” Haiji says. “I’ve missed you.”

“Listen to your minds and bodies and polish carefully,” Haiji said and so everybody did, including Yuki who once was so opposed to participating in the Hakone Ekiden relay race.
Tumblr media
He was so deep in thought that he doesn’t notice his phone ringing.
However, we see who’s calling.
Tumblr media
母親 or haha oya aka his mother but there’s more behind that word.
haha oya literally translated means “mother-parent,” which has a very scientific connotation. You can refer to your mother as haha oya when you’re talking about her, but the same goes for mothers of animals, yeah... It’s like calling your mother the “child birther” haha
So, saving your mom under that name on your phone already shows to others who might catch a glimpse of your phone the cold, distant, and not-so-good relationship you have with your mom.
I don’t recall how or if Yuki addressed his mom later in the episode but if he didn’t, my guess is that he’d call her okaa-sama, the title that shows the most respect but also the biggest distance between mom and kid.

Nvm this interlude
A/n: I post a solid 3 times a year at this point but I’m back at it again with rn rnb!hq agenda. Iwa is Bryson coded inspired by/quoted song. F!reader. Black coded but no real descriptors (mention of changing hair )
Previous rnb!hq pieces: 1 2
Warnings: as usual 21+, language, suggestive, not edited and from someone who hasn’t written on here since Feb (thanks for the love on the last post tho!)
musician!Iwa pens several songs about you long before yall are ever together. He has wanted you for the longest time fr, like damn near from the day he met you. So when yall become friends and ultimately end up “talking” he makes his intentions real clear through not only his words but in his music. Too bad he’s inconsistent.
“Come here,” Hajime pats his lap motioning for you to sit. “Want you to hear this track.” You couldn’t help but eye him with curiosity from your place on the other side of the couch. He’d come back into town a week now and just now found his way over to your place. With you lack of movement he repeated the action, this time reaching for your hand to assist.
“I can listen from over here.”
Hajime can’t help but let out a low laugh. “Just want you to be a bit more comfortable” You don’t miss the way his eyes trail over your attire. Sleep shorts and a tight tank. Once again he reaches for you, a smirk gracing his features when you oblige.
Once seated one of his hands immediately finds itself on you. Slipped under your tank resting heavily on your skin, his other hand reaches for his phone to hit play”
I got thing to say, I gotta talk to you
Touch down, I just touched down
Guess I gotta start the hunt down
“Its an interlude” he hums out bobbing his head at his work. You nod as you continue listening.
Tryna be a better man
Came to tell you that we gotta stop fuckin’ round
"But you look good, I wanna fuck now
Make these other bitches seem basic"
Those words are said directly into your ear his hand starting to massage at the skin around your stomach.
You a goddess you gracious
The other hand that had been holding the phone comes to the side of your face forcing eye contact for the next part.
Im tryna stop you from being famous
From rappers knowing what your name is
I’m barely famous and I hate it.
Iwa maintains eye contact for the remainder of the track. The two of you sit in silence after the song in. His hands running softly at your skin as you sigh.
“What you think. It’s about you.” You nod knowingly trying to formulate the words. He’s essentially acknowledged the back and forth yall had been having for the last several months.
He comes, fucks you and goes all ghost while insisting he cares about you a lot. He knows it’s selfish but can’t stay away from you. He also notice you started taking longer to hit him back up and that you’d been going out more with your friends. Looking as good as ever he couldn’t help but heart react as you’d show your body off in the mini skirt or when you’d switch up your hair and nails.
“I’m glad you also know that you’re fucked up” you scoff attempting to get off his lap.
He doesn’t let you nor does he let the words cut “I been scared. Scared to commit, but I havent slept with anyone since we started”
That revelation causes you to freeze in surprise and gives him the chance to help you shift so that you could face him. Like magnets his hands find their way back onto your body, settling on each one of your thighs.
“Haiji-“
“I’m serious (Y/N). It’s been you since the day we met and I’ve been telling you this. But I know if I step out with you your life is gonna change. You know all the shit that’s been going on with me.”
The seriousness in which he speaks to you makes you listen. You’re usually privy to a different side of him. The joking side, the one who isn’t hiding from interview requests and performing on dark stages.
“Of course i know. And that’s why since the day we met I’ve been careful. But Hajime it hurts when you come over here pretend you care and then it’s weeks before I even get a simple text back.”
He’s listening to your words carefully. Thinking. He knows that no matter his response there’s no going back to how you were.
“I’m sorry,” he mumbles taking a deep breath. “But, I wanna be with you. For real. You gonna let me?”
Your eyes search his for any uncertainty but find none. At your nod one of his hands trail up your back. Resting on your cheek he urges you closer until your lips touch.
“Won’t make you regret this baby”

Ok so I was in the middle of sending an ask for the Miu rage rant polite request like two separate times already but the app kept crashing and doing the wacky to prevent me from speaking on the matter oh well hope they didnt get sent anyway😔😔.... I have NO idea what she does I'll be honest I was too busy only caring about Ouma and Kiibo petrol puddle yaoi and Momota slander material to remember anything about Miu Danganronpa
*SMACKS TABLE REALLY HARD* rant incoming.
Okay so. Miu is a character that COULD be really great. If they changed nearly everything about her
She's insecure and lonely, and that results in her acting loud and sexual 24/7. That's an interesting character! You can do a lot with that! But they do not. They just have her sexually harrass Kaede, Shuichi, and Kiibo (and others.) Oh and call Gonta slurs.
From the very second we meet her, she's being an asshole to Kaede and constantly talking about her boob size and making fun of her. Yk how Shinigami gets when Kurumi pops up on screen? Miu is like that but whenever anyone is on screen. Kaede (thankfully) argues back and doesn't just take it, but. That sadly does not last forever. And then suddenly in DRS they're besties!!! While Miu is still making snide comments on her body!!! And Kaede there is just "oh miu!! So silly!!!"
Her FTEs are just. Her sexually harassing Shuichi. He's easy to pick on because he's insecure and shy, and Miu just fuckin runs with it. However Shuichi is only allowed to hate Kokichi so he just goes "Oh miu!! So silly!!!" Even when Miu triggers Ryoma. Like. She deadass triggers him and Ryoma is clearly upset and Ryoma and Shuichi go off to help Ryoma feel better but they don't. Do anything about it. Nobody yells at her or ANYTHING. Kokichi breathes and he's screamed at yet Miu can do whatever she wants apparently
Then. The way she treats Kiibo. Ourgh. At rhe beginning they hate each other. Miu sees Kiibo as useless, as a hunk of junk. Kiibo sees Miu as a vulgar, rude, shitty person. Then, suddenly, in chapter 3, they're suddenly besties and we get rhe maintenance scene (which. Kiibo didn't consent to that at all and people treat it as such a romantic scene aren't they cute together as Kiibo tells her to stop???/sarc). Like I'm not even kidding. During the trial they're hating on each other and then the NEXT DAY Shuichi walks in on the maintenance scene. It comes out of nowhere. Yes I know characters can develop without the protag seeing it but it honestly just feels like they realized none of the characters like Miu, even if they let her harass others. So Kiibo, the guy who's bullied by everybody and clearly has some confidence issues, gets shoved to be a romantic interest for Miu, the girl who forces herself on everybody and insults anyone about anything. It doesn't even matter because Kiibo makes one comment about feeling sad after Miu dies and that's it. One. ONE. If Kiibo's dad was in DRS he would've started a killing game over how everybody treats his kid, especially Miu
The only time she's not making me scream is when she's bantering with Kokichi and Gonta, but even then there's limits. Like. Wow she called the guy who's already insecure about his intelligence despite being a SCIENTIST slurs about how he isn't smart. Thank God Kokichi doesn't take shit and gets insults thrown at her to shut her up.
DRS isn't cannon but the way she acts is just... worse?? But thankfully Ishimaru my beloved is there. She flashes the WOH (you know. The children who have extreme trauma. The group of children with Kotoko in it.) And Ishimaru goes off on her and she cries, and IM SO GLAD NOBODY GETS ON ISHIMARU'S CASE. THANK YOU. HES RIGHT. Ishimaru with the hot take that you shouldn't flash children regardless of whether they seem upset about it or not. In DRS she's not insecure at all, she's literally just a predator. People were worried Haiji would get in the game but they forgot Miu is a creep too
And what gets me is that I COULD like Miu. I COULD like her most popular ships (which are. With the people she sexually harrases and abuses the most.). I just can't because the fandom has decided to ignore any bad traits about her in order to make a wholesome cute ship out of these characters. I saw someone deadass say that disliking Miu is misogyny AND ableism, because Miu is autistic and disliking her means you hate all autistic people. They say her special interest is sex. No it's NOT you do not know what a special interest is!!!!!!!! I'm not even autistic and I know the way she acts is not due to sex being a special interest she's just a fucking creep who wants to prove to herself that everyone finds her hot and desireable!!!!
If Miu had gotten any sort of pushback or growth or anything I would've liked her way more. But she stays the same the entire game. All she does is aggressively insult/pursue characters, give an invention or two, and die. She's just... so infuriating. When Shinigami gets annoying about Yuma and other women, it gets on my nerves, but I still like her because she has more to her character than that. Miu has. Literally nothing. Her insecurity is just used as an excuse for what she does- she only acts insecure when it benefits her, like when someone yells at her for FLASHING CHILDREN I CANT FUCKING GET OVER THAT. "Kids love this kind of stuff" YOU ARE REFERRING TO THE CHILDREN WITH SOME OF THE CRUELEST BACKSTORIES EVER. ARENT YOU SUPPOSED TO BE. SMART. LITERALLY EVERYONE ELSE CAN TELL THAT THEYVE BEEN THROUGH SOMETHING EVEN IF THEY DONT KNOW THE NITTY GRITTY DETAILS. I just. How do you make a character that is JUST Sexual Pervert Creep and then somehow have her become popular. Hifumi has more character than her. Teruteru has more character than her. And they never cross the line as often or as far as she does. I just don't understand how the fandom can see her as an uwu quirky autism girl!!!! She's legitimately a bad person and is infinitely more interesting when you acknowledge that and do something with that. Heck. One of my favorite characters of all time is also a scientist with a weird, creepy relationship with a robot/doll. The difference is that the game AND the fandom acknowledge that he is a Bad Person, and let's him be complex and interesting without trying to water him or the relationship down. Can we PLEASE let women be bad people. Like can we do that. I'm tired of the Uwu Innocent Queen thing. I'm tired of the Girl boss thing. Let women be fuckin awful and treated accordingly!!!!!!!!!!
I still can't get over how they made Kiibo a doormat for her, too. I'm sorry. Kiibo would NOT tolerate her behavior he would yell at her and leave. My guy has been bullied and harassed enough to know when someone means it or is just ignorant/is joking. Miu was not joking when she insulted Kiibo she just wanted him to listen to her and praise her. Punching the floor.
I'm not gonna even go into the Love Suite that shit was. Jesus Christ.
Okay this was very long so TLDR: Miu is a creep and the game nor the fandom cares about it in favor of haha sex joke and aw aren't they wholesome (ignore the bullying and harassment)

Takumi Haiji / CHARADE MANIACS 5th Anniversary Night Letter TRANSLATION
BIG SPOILERS AHEAD!!! Read once you've fully completed the game!
"~
You're very warm... When I hug you, it feels reaaally good.
I wonder if this is what people would describe as "feeling safe"?
I enjoy walking in the park holding hands, but I like holding each other tightly like this the most after all.
Because, don't you think this act is the closest way of feeling your presence?
...hehe, you get it, right?
This body temperature is made of data, but still, it makes me happy.
Now, in this moment, I know without a doubt that you are right by my side, that I'm the only one reflected in those eyes.
That is an undeniable truth, and I'm incredibly happy that you're taking the time to do this for me.
I want to think that this joy... is my own feeling.
...huh? What happened?
Aah, you still aren't used to me not addressing you by "big sis"?
Well then, I'll call you "big sis" just for you.
When I called you like this..., there were a lot of things I didn't really comprehend.
I could understand the words and their meanings only in a superficial way.
That's why I ended up doing so many awful, cruel, and sad things to you, big sis.
I can't be forgiven just by apologizing but... even so, for as much pain as I've caused you, no... for even more than that, I want to give you my everything, big sis.
I really love you.
The most important person... of my own world.
~"
Translator Note: I CRIED AGAIN TRANSLATING THIS, CHARAMANI LET ME CATCH A BREAK PLEASE. I thought these were letters so I wasn't expecting Hiyori to actually be there reacting in real-time, because of that, it reads a bit like a Short Story. Haiji and Hiyori are my favorite pairing ever so seeing more of them was an absolute treat. I had a hard time figuring out what ending are they supposed to be in since Haiji talks as if he had a humanoid body but he's talking to Hiyori openly about being the original Producer so that means it has to be Truth End...? The same happens in his Lacus Felicitatis audios so I might be missing something??? Did I skip a SS where he gets an android? Or does Hiyori still interact with him in VR after everything went down in the Truth end? I need to cope with there still not being a sequel someone buy me a robot dog please please please please I promise he won't take over the world I swear

30 Day Danganronpa Challenge but April is pretty far away and I can't slowburn for shit so here we go!!
Tumblr media
(Spoilers for the entire Danganronpa series, obviously)
1. HIMIKO!!!
2. Either Teruteru, Kazuichi, or Haiji. Genuinely awful people. (Hifumi is disgusting too, but at least he tries(?) to keep it to 2D only. I guess.)
3. All of them!! Yes, ALL of them!!
4. Definitely gotta go to Gundham. Considering he's one of the only good ones lmao
5. If she didn't get killed off in the first fucking chapter, Kaede would be an absolute lock. But Shuichi's good too, at the very least compared to the other protags. I would say Komaru too, but she called Haiji's creepy ass tendencies "attractive," so...
6. I had to think for a good minute about whether I could reasonably say I like any of the other characters that fit the antagonist mold than the obvious and overplayed. But. Fuck it, it's like they say! It's always Junko!
7. CHIYOMIKO!!!!!
Tumblr media
8. Straight ships in general tbh, but ESPECIALLY involving Hifumi, Teruteru, Kazuichi, or Haiji
9. You could not pay me to care about the interactions between two men
10. If I HAD to pick a favorite straight ship, gun pointed to my head and bombs strapped to my family and loved ones... I guess Saimatsu isn't the worst. Can I go now, Jigsaw?
11.
Tumblr media
12. See #7 UwU
13. V3. As long as I pretend chapter 6 doesn't exist
14. CHIHIRO!!!! 🏳️‍⚧️
15. HIYOKO!!!! 👘
16. HIMIKO!!!! 🪄
17.
Tumblr media
18. It's kind of a tossup between Ultimate Programmer and Ultimate Artist, as those are THE most important things to my goals of creating my own video games
19. Probably Gundham's for the emotional weight of it. There's just... something about seeing the Four Dark Devas of Destruction's reaction to the execution of their master that made me sad the first time I saw it.
20. If this is like favorite OST overall? Probably V3's anyway? But if we're talking favorite song... LET'S START THE KILLING GAME!!!
21. HIYOKO IN A HEARTBEAT
22. Gundham's, for the reasons listed in 19. He's also the only guy in the SDR2 cast that I can confidently say I like, so that also had part in it
23. The DR3 girl with the Pikachu hoodie and homophobia in her eyes
24. ALL OF THE GIRLS HONEST TO GOD. But surprisingly enough, I think I'd go with Hiyoko first and foremost cause I can see us starting so much shit together lmao
25. I'm gonna assume this is weak as in relating to the narrative, so I'm gonna go with Kurokuma. Like, did he even do anything? At all? I mean, it's been a while since I've sat through UDG, but I genuinely do not remember him contributing to anything besides half-baked comic relief
26. Gonna get controversial here. My candidates are Makoto, Ishimaru, Hajime, and Keebo. Whichever one makes people the most upset, that's my pick
27. Oh, y'all are gonna hate me for this one. Himiko. She had some GROWTH, she went through some SHIT, and she still lived to tell the tale. To any of y'all who say she didn't deserve it, I hope your favorite character in Kodaka's next project gets killed immediately.
28. Okay this one was actually easier than i thought it would be. Ibuki for sure! She lives and breaths the 2000s, how could I not wanna dress like her every day if I had the option?
29. Again, HIMIKO!!!
30. I'm starting to think there's a theme here...
-------------
And with that, my Danganronpa opinions are out in the open for the public to scrutinize every last detail of! Here's my faves made in Pony Town as treat for making it this far ^w^

Best Underrated Anime Group B Round 2: #B5 vs #B8
#B5: Amateur college track team aims for big race
#B8: Middle school idol drama
Titles, propagandas, trailers, and poll under the cut!
Tumblr media
#B5: Run with the Wind (Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru)
youtube
Summary:
Former ace runner of Sendai Josei High School, Kakeru Kurahara is chased away from a convenience store for shoplifting. Shaking off his pursuer, he runs into Haiji Kiyose, another student from his university. Haiji is impressed by Kakeru's agility and persuades him to live in Chikusei-sou, the run-down apartment where Haiji resides along with eight other students. Having lost his entire apartment deposit at a mahjong parlor, Kakeru accepts the offer reluctantly.
However, Haiji reveals a secret during Kakeru's welcoming party: the apartment is actually the dormitory of the Kansei University Track Club. He unveils his ultimate goal of participating in the Hakone Ekiden—one of the most prominent university marathon relay races in Japan. Unfortunately, all the residents apart from Haiji and Kakeru are complete running novices. Worse still, none of the inhabitants are even remotely interested in being involved with Haiji's ridiculous plan! With only months before the deadline, will the fourth-year student be able to convince them otherwise and realize his elusive dream of running in the Hakone Ekiden?
Propaganda 1:
Okay so, finally a sports anime that isn’t set in high school. (There aren’t nearly enough set in college.) MC is basically Older Running Kageyama, in both looks and personality. He has to overcome his past issues with his old track team, and learn to open up. I love the relationships that form between the team members. There’s one who is just Not Here for It and struggles A Lot, who just wants to go home and read manga. (Hey it me.) There’s also a cute dog, and a lot of the bg music is by the same folks as Haikyuu.
Propaganda 2:
I genuinely think this might be the best sports anime out there. It’s an amazing anime in general, with good animation, a beautiful art show, and a great premise, though what really makes it stand out is the characters.
RWTW is a character-driven story at heart, with all the main characters given their time to shine. The main cast is very lovable, and their relationships with each other are depicted in a sweet but realistic way. The protagonist, Kakeru, goes through a great character development over the course of the show, from being a lonely outcast at the start to accepting the other team members into his heart as found family.
While I’m not a runner personally, I still found this interesting to watch, since along with the training there’s a lot of thoughtful discussion on the nature of running: what it means to run, to be a runner. There’s a very philosophical aspect to it, which makes sense considering that RWTW is actually adapted from a book. The last thing I’ll say is that as a college student myself, it’s really nice to watch an anime focused on people in college and not high school. Oh, and the soundtrack is incredible.
Trigger Warnings: Alcohol and Smoking
Tumblr media
#B8: Pretty Rhythm: Rainbow Live
youtube
Summary:
Naru Ayase is an 8th grader who can see the colors of music when she listens to it. For Naru, who is extremely good at decorating, becoming the owner of a shop like Dear Crown was her dream. One day, she finds out that the manager of a newly-opened shop is recruiting middle school girls who can do Prism Dance, and immediately applies. Naru begins to Prism Dance at the audition, and an aura she’s never experienced spreads out in front of her. At that moment, a mysterious girl named Rinne asks her if she can see “rainbow music.”
Propaganda:
WHERE DO I START.
First off: Lesbian activities. Ayase Naru and Rinne Amagi are very close friends and even end up living together. Naru is also only one of the few characters without a proper love interest which really helps further the Naru/Rinne ship.
Otoha Takanashi: often talks about fairy tales, but the only characters she ever sees as Princes are women. Baby lesbian, I love her.
Second: DRAMA. So two of the characters (Ito and Kouji) actually start dating, but their parents do not approve for reasons they are evasive about until it is later revealed in the story—[This part of the propaganda has been cut by admin due to possible spoilers]
Third: banger music. This series includes many covers of popular 90s dance tracks from band TRF, which I am fond of. It also has a lot of unique music written for the show itself which is also good, especially for a children’s show.
Trigger Warnings: It might need the emotional abuse tag for specifically one of the characters’ parents, who is a pretty extreme perfectionist when it comes to her daughter. But nothing else aside from that. It’s a kids’ show, so it never goes that far in terms of actual harm. Most things also get resolved peacefully.

Speaking of learning shit about Haiji. Just. *sigh* Okay. We're going to talk about that moment real quick.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay. What is this. Why is this here.
As near as I can tell, this is meant as a funny joke. Toko gets on her shit, only for Haiji to suddenly out-perv her. With Komaru delivering the, "Well, THAT just happened," style punchline, clearly as uncomfortable as the audience is to have to listen to this exchange.
And. Like. Haiji's fucking scum. He is the brother of the "Monaca's father and brother beat her into a wheelchair". And while she'll later be revealed to be faking her disability (and we will GET to that, don't you worry), the fact remains that Tokuichi and Haiji found "Monaca is permanently disabled from all the physical abuse we sling at her" to be a perfectly believable story. That says a lot.
This man is a monster. So it's not exactly any sort of derailment for him to turn out to be a pedo too.
But it's just weird to have a character ostensibly on our side casually confess to that sort of thing like he's telling you his favorite fast food joint. And then for the story to just move on like that didn't happen. We just move right along, chilling with our bestie Haiji and helping him carry out his plan. The rest of the scene is just talking shop about how we're going to defeat the Warriors of Hope. It doesn't even merit a comment outside of Komaru's one line up there.
It's so irrelevant to the character, to the story, to this very scene, that it becomes baffling. Like. We had a whole-ass chapter dedicated to a child prostitute and the intense grief, trauma, and fucked up mental state it put her in. And then this is just here one chapter later as a throwaway joke.
Show someone your fucking script.
Ugh.

wip wednesday
The brown-haired man is in his usual corner seat, shoulders turned toward the silent table. There’s a glass on the table beside him, half-drunk beer. He’s talking to the proprietor, hands making big, sharp gestures in the air. Kakeru doesn’t see when the man looks up, but he’s sure he’s been noticed. The last time Kakeru had lost here, two weeks ago, the brown-haired man had come up to him afterward, leaned in close enough for the edge of his open jacket to brush Kakeru’s shoulder, and said, Another loss, agent? Kakeru had kept his movements perfectly regular, but his mind had gone stunningly blank for a moment before he managed, You planning to do something about it? And the man had leant in smiling, hot breath close on Kakeru’s ear, and said, Only if you want me to. His hand on Kakeru’s other shoulder and the edge of his thumb barely touching the side of Kakeru’s neck. You’re good business.
here, have some of the opening to the porn coda to the long version of heist!au. aka: kakeru is some kind of government agent who gambles regularly at an illegal mahjong parlor that haiji runs, and then they get caught up in each other's lives and shenanigans happen.
