“Fauda” star Idan Amedi, one of the first Israelis to enlist after Oct 7th, was seriously injured while fighting in a counterterrorism operation against Hamas in Gaza.
I understand his condition was upgraded to "stable."
Pray for his full recovery - his Hebrew name is: Idan Ben Tova"

Daily update post:
Today, Israel is voting in its local elections (for mayors and city councils). ALMOST all of Israel. The original date was at the end of October 2023, for obvious reasons, the elections were postponed. There were also a lot of mayor nominees, who were summoned for reserves service due to the war, and one of the reasons why the elections were postponed more than once, was to give as many of them as possible a chance to finish their service, and participate in their own election campaign. But even so, there are still hundreds of thousands of people from evacuated communities (displaced people, internal refugees, however you wanna call them), and therefore not everyone will be voting today. For the evacuated cities and towns, the elections were postponed until November. Looking at things, it's not sure they'll be back in their homes by then either, so IDK what their elections will look like. And then of course there are the hostages. Save for two, 4 years old Ariel Bibas and his 1 years old baby brother Kfir, they all had the right to vote, and none will get to. We remember them and hurt over their absence and everything being continuously being stolen from them on this day, too. On a side note, the national supervisor of these local electional is Rayan Ghanem. And if you know Jewish last names, you know Ghanem is not one of them. I'm trying to remember a time in apartheid South Africa when a non-white was a national supervisor of elections.

Despite still pointing out that the International Court of Justice has no right to judge the case brought to it by South Africa (becaue of SA's false claims to bring this case to court), Israel has filed a report in accordance with one of the ICJ's provisional measures, showing that its actions are in compliance with all of them (like providing humanitarian aid to Gaza, and doing all it can to protect civilians).
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, at Harvard, just 6 weeks after she was appointed to lead the task force meant to combat Jew hatred, the university's antisemitism tsar has quit her position, with reports saying that she's frustrated over her inability to implement practical measures.
Tumblr media
Remember when I wrote about Idan Amedi, the Israeli singer and actor that most people outside our country know from his role on Fauda? He gave a really moving speech when he was released from the hospital. I've wanted to share it for a while, but couldn't find it translated well. I found this bit:
But it really doesn't cover how moving the whole speech is (it's 9 minutes long). Among other things, he also thanked medical teams, assured Israelis we have the best ones, and apologized to his soldiers who died in the same incident in which he was injured. He also mentioned that he was unrecognizable when he was rushed into the hospital, and that doctors only identified him by the note that was attacked to his hand. It turns out, he really wanted people to see what he was talking about, and to understand that by the time he gave this public speech, he was already looking much better than on the day of he was wounded. So here is the image he shared himself on his IG (just scroll quickly past it, if you feel like it is too much for you, which is an understandbale reaction):

This is 68 years old David Edri.
Tumblr media
On October 7, he was held hostage with his wife by Hamas for hours. At a certain point, he even covered his wife Rachel with his own body, in order to protect her from the terrorists' shots. They both survived. Yesterday, we got the news that he has passed away. His family said the trauma and stress from the massacre, and the news of its scale, had aggravated his medical problems for the last couple of months, until he could no longer go on.
This is 23 years old Raz Mizrachi.
Tumblr media
In May 2021, she was injured in a vehicular terrorist attack in Jerusalem, but survived. On Oct 7, she was attending the Nova music festival. Her last phone call was to the police, to help instruct them on where she and dozens of others were hiding from Hamas terrorists, inside a public bomb shelter. Raz was murdered shortly after that. When her mom got a copy of the call's recording, she said it was a great source of comfort to the family, to know that Raz was a fighter till the last moment.
May their memory be a blessing.

Our hearts and thoughts are with Israeli singer and “Fauda” actor Idan Amedi, who was seriously injured today while fighting in the counterterrorism operation against Hamas in Gaza. He was one of the first well-known Israelis to enlist into the IDF since October 7th.
May this hero make a swift and speedy recovery.

Jews of Iraqi descent fight on two fronts
Two Israeli  Jews of Iraqi descent have been hitting the headlines: Idan Amedi, who is of Kurdish origin, made his name in Israel as a singer and actor in the Netflix series ‘Fauda’.  He fought on the front line in Gaza until he was severely injured . Eylon Levy, who was brought up in England by Israeli parents with roots in Iraq, has been an Israel government spokesman fighting a different war on the diplomatic front. He was recently the star speaker at a 25,000-strong rally in Trafalgar Square in London.
CNN reports:
Tumblr media
Idan Amedi, 35, is in critical condition in the ICU at Sheba Tel Hashomer Medical Center near Tel Aviv, a spokesperson for the hospital said.
However, the star’s father told Israeli website Walla!: “There is no danger to his life.”
Amedi, who is of Kurdish descent, shot to fame in the 2010s as a singer-songwriter before joining the cast of “Fauda” in 2017. He plays a member of an Israeli special forces unit in the series, which follows an Israeli agent who comes out of retirement to hunt for a Palestinian fighter he thought he’d killed, according to the show’s official Netflix page.
Amedi had volunteered to fight for the Israeli military in Gaza following Hamas’ October 7 attacks on Israel, according to “Fauda” co-creators Lior Raz and Avi Issacharaoff.

The Jerusalem Post reports:
Tumblr media
The star draw was British-Israeli Eylon Levy, the government’s English language spokesman. The 33-year-old former television anchor, who was educated at both Oxford and Cambridge, has become a popular character – and has even attained heart-throb status – for his articulate defense of Israel on television. Even his eyebrows – which appear to take on a life of their own during hostile questioning – have attained cult status and have their own social media accounts. He won a rock star welcome.
“One-hundred days after October 7, one day after another hate parade in London we stand here outnumbered and out-manned yet unafraid and united,” he said. “We are holding our heads up high and are determined to climb out of our darkest hour with our love for each other and Israel.”

Iran attack draws dark humor from captive Israeli audience
Tumblr media
There’s nothing like a dose of existential dread to turn the People of the Book into the People of the Meme. And with millions of Israelis doomscrolling social media from their safe rooms, the jokesters took full advantage of their captive audiences.
Days before the barrage of some 300 or so projectiles were fired by Iran at Israel overnight Saturday, Israelis stocked up on some humor alongside their canned hummus beans and six-packs of water.
Tumblr media
Another said he was less concerned about the imminent attack from Iran, but would like to pitch Sarah Silverman to play his character in the resulting Netflix movie.
Dry Israeli-British humor played well, including a quip from journalist Matthew Kalman who said, “First direct flights from Iran to Israel since 1979.”

Not to be outdone, executive director of StandWithUs Israel Michael Dickson said what many wide-awake Jewish Israelis were thinking, “Well, if we’re going to be up all night, we might as well do the Seder already,” referring to the ritual meal launching the week of Passover next Monday night.
Journalist Matthew Kalman on Facebook: ‘First direct flights from Iran to Israel since 1979.
The memes cranked up once word was out that dozens of car-sized drones had been launched from Iran and were rather slowly making their way to Israel.
A massively shared image charted the unmanned aerial vehicles’ progress to major Israeli cities, giving their expected arrival times in a format used for announcements of the entrance of Shabbat.
Another showed a dial — a la food delivery app Wolt — of the missiles’ estimated time of arrival.
Estimated time of arrival of Iranian projectiles – 540 minutes – from the food delivery app Wolt
Many pranksters took screen grabs from major Israeli news networks and “improved” them with new captions.
One showed the three forms of projectiles shot from Iran to Israel alongside their flight times — and advised which form of food one should make during their journeys: Ballistic missiles take 12 minutes (sandwich), cruise missiles can take two hours (matbucha, a cooked Middle Eastern tomato/pepper salad) and drones should arrive in up to nine hours (cholent).
A parody of a Talmudic discussion from the Passover Hagaddah, saying, ‘It happened once [on Pesach] that Rabbi Eliezer, Rabbi Yehoshua, Rabbi Elazar ben Azariah, Rabbi Akiva and Rabbi Tarfon were reclining in Bnei Brak and were waiting for the unmanned armed vehicles that whole night…’ (courtesy)
On X, communications guru Sara Eisen came up with a slew of pithy inspired limericks to pass the time, including this biblically inspired gem: “Haman of old was a Persian / These days there’s a ballistic version / That takes all the old hate / Which it hurls towards a state / It’s the same strange obsessive perversion.”
A limerick from marketing and communications guru Sara Eisen on X. (courtesy)
Parody of ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs’ (courtesy)
For many working Israeli parents already at a loss for how to occupy their school-aged children during the Passover break, the news that the daycare system would be shuttered Sunday brought a new onslaught of black humor.
As one parent put it, “In the meantime in the daycare’s Whatsapp group: ‘If the drones are meant to arrive by 4:00 a.m., what reason is there to not open the daycare as usual?!'”
Other parents made “kosher for Passover” parody sequel posters of favorite childhood movies, including “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs — Iran-style.”
Finally, showing appreciation for a heralded hero of the war against Hamas (remember that?), a much-shared image of IDF Spokesman Daniel Hagari was captioned with, “We’re all going to die — except for [“Fauda” star and singer] Idan Amedi.”

Believing in miracles brings even more miracles. ✨
Tumblr media
Idan Amedi, an Israeli singer, songwriter, and actor known from the popular show Fauda, who was badly injured fighting Hamas in Gaza, posted a photo on his Instagram with the following message:
"Every now and then I have some understanding of the miracle that happened to me, but honestly I don't think I will ever grasp it. That's how miracles are, you have to accept them and above all, don't forget what happened."

Daily update post:
Remember how I mentioned yesterday that Hezbollah had attacked the Northern Command base? It was announced that Ali Hussein, the commander of that aerial strike on the IDF base, has been eliminated.
Hey, remember how the anti-Israel crowd kept insisting that Israel has turned Gaza into a concentration camp, before this war? The IDF has arrived at the summer home (!) of Marwan Issa, the deputy military commander of Hamas in Gaza, and I am trying to remember a single Jewish slave laborer in Dachau, who had a summer home that looks like this, inside the camp...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(screenshots from a vid in Hebrew here, discussing Marwan Issa, his home, and the way Hamas leaders built their wealth)
This is vital: UN Watch have published a report about the Telegram group of UNRWA teachers, who celebrated the massacre of Oct 7, and prided themselves that this was thanks to the education that the terrorists got...
Tumblr media
In the US, Jewish stars have signed a letter addressed to the Academy for Motion Picture, Arts and Sciences, protesting the fact that Jews are not on the list for includion, as one of the marginalized groups that suffer from underrepresentation. I've written way before the war about Jewish representation, and how it has never been good enough. But more than that, Most people are incredibly ignorant about Jews, Judaism, Jewish identity, Jewish history, and even some very basic related facts, such as Jews being native to Israel, or that Jews aren't just white people with a less popular religion. Jews have suffered the longest streak of persecution in human history, the most extreme genocide, and yet we're not even recognized as marginalized and discriminated, which means we're discriminated against even among marginalized groups. It's unfathomable, and it has to change, if the west wants to fight antisemitism, and it has to change NOW.
Idan Amedi's condition, which I posted about in my update post yesterday, is said to have improved, he's regained consciousness, can breathe on his own, and even talked a bit to his family.
This is 62 years old Aviva Siegel.
Tumblr media
She's one of the hostages that were released. Yesterday, she went to the Knesset (Israel's parliament), and I got to hear her testimony about the sexual abuse and torture of the young women in captivity in Gaza, which she had witnessed firsthand. Aviva recounted that one young hostage asked to go to the bathroom. When she returned, Aviva could tell something was off. The young woman confirmed to her that the terrorist molested her. Aviva went to comfort the girl, but the Hamas terrorist rapist stopped her with gun threats. "He wouldn't even let me hug her after he raped her," Aviva said. She also shared that there was another young woman who was physically tortured based on the suspicion that she was an IDF officer. Aviva's husband is still held in captivity, for 96 days now.
This is Ronen Engel, with his daughters Mika and Yuval.
Tumblr media
On Oct 7, Ronen was murdered, his body is still held hostage in Gaza. Yuval and Mika were kidnapped together with their mother Karina, and the three were released during the hostage deal. Two days ago, during the tragedy with the explosives truck in Gaza in which many soldiers were killed and injured 2 days ago, the Engel's family adopted son, 25 years old Amit Shachar, was killed.
Tumblr media
May Ronen and Amit's memories be a blessing.
This was just SO sweet, I had to share. Since the fighting in Gaza started, and some soldiers have been away for months at a time, when they do get to come home, people have shared vids of the reunion joy, and this has to be my personal fave so far:
